The US Joint Force is optimized to conduct operations against the DPRK. They are manned, trained,
and equipped to adequately respond to any real or perceived threat. With more than 20,000 American
troops ready to respond at any given moment and more than four million ROK soldiers ready to take
arms in the event of conflict, the Joint Force will have enough time to hold the line until further
reinforcements arrive, as necessary. Additionally, with no less than two formal joint exercises held on
the peninsula annually with the aim of defending the ROK from attack, the current forces based on the
peninsula are trained and prepared to fight. Finally, the current lay down of forces includes troops
from every major service within the United States. This lay down gives the CFC the flexibility he
needs to conduct any scope of military operations necessary to protect the ROK and defend its people.
Conversely, if/when both peace and de nuclearization occur between the DPRK and ROK then it
would likely be prudent to re address the force structure, including the possibility of troop drawdown

Staying Committed Research Paper
Chapter 3: Staying Committed To Goals With Unlimited Persistence Staying committed to your
actions and goals is a simple plan that many seem to neglect. People do not even stay committed to
their relationships with each other, let alone themselves. How can you ever stay committed to anyone
else if you are not committed to yourself first? Commitment is hard enough because there are so many
distractions in the world that divert attention. Think about summertime when everyone gets undressed.
For men, it might be a beautiful woman in a skimpy outfit or a luxury sports car without the car cover.
For women, it might be a male in a skimpy outfit as well such as a Chippendales dancer or the latest
hairstyle without a winter hat. There is always someone or something that will catch your attention
and divert it. On the flip side, we need to show some loyalty to what we already have in front of us. Be
sure to set goals and never stray away from them no matter how much temptation is circling nearby.
Keep in mind all the positive benefits of staying committed; you can improve yourself, build
businesses and empires, and become highly successful at anything you choose. This is worth more
than giving into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Never take on too much at once, especially if the concept of self discipline is new to you because
more stress will materialize by putting strain on your actions. Creating smaller goals will ease the
process of self discipline.
Expect setbacks because they come with the territory. Be sure to prepare for them by being realistic on
the possibilities of every action you take. Make mental plans to overcome any potential problems that
might happen. If you stay ready then you will be ready. Work harder and smarter by using sheer
determination, logic, rationale and reason about habits.

Emotions And Social Norms In The Adventures Of Peregrine...
In the excerpt below, The Adventures of Peregrine Pickle (1751) by Tobias Smollett, confronts
characters queasiness between emotions and social norms. Not to mention, social norms could mean
different types of morals and ethics. Whether emotions are defined by actions caused by one s feelings
such as anger or sarcasm which is being used throughout the story. For example, in the beginning of
the story Mr. Godfrey Gauntlet is the brother proclaiming the infatuation Mr. Peregrine Pickle (whom
is the lover) has in value with his sister. The way both men respond to each other, implies the
restrained tone of agitation and sarcasm within being used in a polite manner. Although the ethics in
this story should appeal genteel, these characters transfer

Control and Manipulation in A Rose for Emily and The...
In William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily and Charlotte Perkins Gilman s The Yellow Wallpaper, the
two main characters exhibit behavior that some readers may consider unusual or even totally crazy.
These two women are having a difficult time adjusting to the many changes taking place around them.
In the midst of these changes, they face the struggles of being women such as post partum depression
and love and rejection from men. Such problems become so overbearing that each woman ends up in
their own delusional world which in turn, leads to their isolation and insanity. Gender issues, love,
hate, insanity and isolation, are thematic connections in both stories and are important components of
how each woman functions throughout the story and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the woman gets out of bed to investigate the wallpaper in the room, her husband says, What is
it, little girl? Don t go walking about like that you ll get a cold (319). His choice of words of calling
her a little girl belittles the woman and amplifies her feelings of being isolated, not only physically,
but emotionally. Since her husband is away most of the time and leaves her in confinement, the
woman immerses herself into studying the wallpaper [following] the pattern about by the hour (317).
She follows all the twist and turns of the wallpaper, decoding each detail and discovers what she
seems to be a woman in a cage. She spends all her time looking at the paper that she eventually
becomes obsessed with figuring out the patterns. She begins to identify with the woman in the cage
which could signify her imprisonment in the room and her being tormented by her husband s lack of
sympathy for her condition and his dominance in their marriage. Just as male dominance is an issue
for the woman in Gilman s work, Faulkner s A Rose for Emily details how Emily s father and love
interest dictate her life. Unlike the woman in The Yellow Wallpaper being dominated by her own
husband, Emily Grierson was under her father s control since an early age. Her, father who was
described as a spraddled silhouette and clutching a horsewhip , would chase away any prospective
mates for his daughter (Faulkner, 288). Such dominance and solitude carried on until

Characterism And Gerasim In The Death Of Ivan Ilych
According to Webster dictionary destiny means, a predetermined course of events often held to be an
irresistible power or agency, such a simple definition for a word that holds so much weight (Webster).
Anyone who thinks of the word destiny feels some form of intimidation because knowing that we are
destined to do something great or small can be overwhelming. In most frictional writing the characters
have a predetermined destiny they need to fulfill from Katniss Everdeen stopping the Hunger Games
to Odysseus going back home and reclaim his thrown. The Death of Ivan Ilych is no exception and
Gerasim, himself had a destiny he couldn t avoid.

Gerasim, on the other hand, was very different he was not only poor but he was also sincere in the
way he spoke and in his actions. Before Gerasim chose to help Ivan, Ivan lived, alone on the brink of
abyss, with no one who understood or pitied him, (Tolstoy p.158). Gerism took pity on Ivan which
was something Ivan wanted, Gerasim s attitude towards him there was something akin to what he
wished for, so the attitude comforted him, (Tolstoy p.168). Through acknowledging Ivan s failing
health Gerism gave Ivan something he thought he never truly had which was a real human
relationship. Just by showing simple kindness Gerism caused Ivan to rethink his entire life. Still, a
question remains not about Ivan, but about Gerism and did he fight his destiny or was he accepting of
his purpose?
We shall all of us die so why should I grudge a little trouble? is the reply Gerism gave when Ivan
questioned why Gerism was helping him. Toylse goes deeper into this question, expressing that
Gerism didn t think helping Ivan was a burden because one day Gerism hoped someone would do the
same for him (Tolstoy p.168). Gerism destiny was to show Ivan what a good life looked liked with
someone who wasn t part of Ivan s high society driven friends. Gerism was accepting of his purpose
and did it with a smile on his face. He showed Ivan compassion and pity when Ivan truly needed
human sympathy. Even though this sign of human interaction made Ivan question his life

The Inevitable Fate Of Juliet In Shakespeare s Romeo And...

Well in William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet the main character, Romeo and Juliet fall in love at
first sight at Juliet s families party. This book is set in London in the mid 1590s. There are two
families that don t like each other at all. One family is the Montague, which is Romeo s family. Then
the other family is the Capulet, which is Juliet s family. There has been a family feud going on for a
long long time and seems like it will never end. Romeo and Juliet get into a lot of trouble throughout

Wherefore art thou Romeo?
Deny thy father and refuse thy name.
Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love,
And I ll no longer be a Capulet. (2.2. 36.39)
This is a very important scene and set of lines. Also at the beginning of this act Romeo is talking but
Juliet can t hear him or see him. Same for her, she is saying thing about him but he does not her her.
Romeo just sees Juliet s beauty on the balcony. Juliet says O Romeo, Romeo! Wherefore art thou
Romeo? She is not saying where are you. She is saying why Romeo, why are you a Montague. Don t
listen to your parents take away that last name. If you do that I will do that
3 also, I won t be a capulet. As I said before this is a very important set of lines, because everyone
remembers and talks about this when they think of Romeo and Juliet the story.
Throughout the book, the love between Romeo and Juliet gets stronger and more serious. In Act two
they are already planning a wedding. Just a side note, they have only meet less than twenty four hours
before they are planning a wedding:
Juliet:

The colour used is important to the artwork because together they create a place of tranquillity
meeting on coming havoc.
The lines that are used do not outline individual objects in the painting but define the shapes of each.
They show the direction that the artist took when painting this particular art piece. They are delicate
and sensitive lines in the sense that they are not always visible but they still define the object.
The painting has been painted to a deep 2D form. This form creates an illusion of a large amount of
space. As if to create the illusion that you were looking out past the village towards the horizon. This
was important so to capture the full effect of havoc reaching the harmony.
The shape of the artwork is soft and flowing into each section. By using this format the artist has
created a piece of volume and depth.
Interpretation
A peaceful village in a sense of harmony with an on coming storm, darkness and gloom. The black
birds are flying out of the impending doom to shelter.
My interpretation of what is happening is the village is peaceful sort of like the soul and then the
storm comes and suddenly everything is in havoc. As if the painter had some form of inner turmoil
when painting.
The painter is trying to say that nothing is ever peaceful forever and eventually darkness will come.
He was looking out over the village and saw the oncoming storm on the horizon and the black birds
fleeing and it reflected his inner

MWDS Candide
Major Work Data Sheet: Candide
Title: Candide
Author: Voltaire
Date of Publication: 1759
Genre: Satire, Conte Philosophique (Philosophical Fiction)
Biographical information about the author: Francois Marie Arouet, better known as Voltaire, was born
in 1694 in Paris, France. Though his father wanted him to become a lawyer, Voltaire long held a great
passion for writing, and rather than going to law school, spent his time extensively composing poetry,
essays, and historical studies. His widespread recognition as an author was established with the
publication of the play Oedipus , a variation on the original Greek tragedy, in 1718. In 1726, after a

Voltaire s satire contains a strong sense of witful irony and parodies meant to elicit disgust at the
topics he is criticizing. Candide s sense of satire is largely derived from the Juvenalian satire which
was created by the Roman satirist Juvenal. By using absurdist and ironic images of characters, satirists
intend to invoke disgust or laughter at a topic to the point where it is rejected a legitimate. Thi is the
point with Voltaire s mockery of optimism in Candide .
Plot Summary: Candide is a tale told in a fast paced series of episodic adventures. The opening
chapter establishes the Edenic innocence of the background in which the protagonist, Candide, is
raised. Leading a privileged, isolated existence in a Westphalian castle, Candide finds himself in love
with Cunegonde, daughter of the Baron of the castle. He is also eagerly indoctrinated with Leibnizian
optimism by his tutor, Pangloss, who, in turn, is in love with Paquette, the chambermaid of the castle.
After openly showing his affection for Cunegonde, Candide, not being of noble enough blood, is
promptly expelled by the Baron, and involuntarily sets out upon his own into the world. Candide s
first major adventure is his unintentional recruitment into the Bulgar army, which exposes him to the
terrors of physical and sexual abuse, as well as the shocking violence of warfare. After managing to
escape the army, Candide comes across a kind Anabaptist, Jacques, as well as Pangloss, who has been

Symbolism In Lord Of The Flies Essay
William Golding kills off everything important to survival and by this he means that the world is
doomed. So many significant objects are broken by the end of the book, The Lord of the Flies by
William Golding, which is a novel about a bunch of inexperienced boys being trapped together on an
island and are forced to find means of survival. There are a lot of symbols in this book that all
represent the only way they can survive. Each symbol represents a piece of the world and how it
functions. Without all of these pieces, the world can t function. William Golding clearly shows that the
world is doomed by one by one killing off all of the objects and symbols that keep them sane and

That night while they are sleeping God sends down a sign of a dead parachutist that gets stuck in the

dead parachutist as a sign. Which represents that their is not very much hope for them if that is all he
could send them. Another thing that represents all forms or Christianity begin dead is when Simon
dies. Jack leapt on to the sand. Do our dance! Come on! Dance! (151). As all of the savages where in a
delirious state, doing their dance in the middle of the night, Simon happened to crawl out of the forest
to come and tell them all what the actual Beast was. They all thought he was the beats and torturously
ripped, clawed, and bit him to death. Simon is the Christ figure of the group, and in this moment,
Christ had died. In the Bible Jesus suffered a very painful and torturous death, as did Simon in the
book. This represents the world being doomed because God created the world and without him, their
is no hope for anyone to live or survive. The death of intelligence is foreshadowed to many times, and
after Piggy s death, intelligence truly dies. In the middle of the book, Piggy s Specs get broken. Quote

Horror Argument For Horror Movies
Horror Genre Argument
One in four college students in a recent study said they experience lingering effects of a frightful
movie or TV experience from childhood. (Bernie DeGroat) Fear is an unpleasant emotion caused by
the belief the someone or something is dangerous causing pain, or threats. It is not appropriate for
middle schoolers to read classic horror stories like The Tell Tale Heart , because they can cause them
anxiety and it can make them aggressive after watching scary movies.
Horror movies can cause middle schoolers anxiety because horror movies have different components
not appropriate for children. This fear and anxiety of horror movies can cause pain or threats. This
means that even after the movie is done, middle schoolers can feel anxious and uneasy because they
saw violence and other things in the movie that can happen in the real world. In the text The Tell Tale
Heart the narrator states I made up my mind to take the life of the old man, thus riding myself of the
eye forever . This means that the narrator has decided to take the life of the old man because of his
eye. Middle Schoolers might interpret this as okay to kill a man because of his eye.
There are many different types of horror. These types of horror can cause aggression. Aggression is
hostile or violent behavior or attitudes toward another. This happens because of the violence they
experience in horror films. In the online text Scary movies can have lasting effects on children and
teens,

Benefits that an employer provides to their employees are ones needed to provide the motivation to

The Writing Of History Is Not An Easy Task That Can Make...
Any fool can make history, but it takes a genius to write it. Oscar Wilde states that the writing of
history is not an easy task that can be executed well by many. This is evident in the biases that are
incorporated into many authors writings on history. For instance, newspaper articles are typically
littered with various biases depending on the origin of the author. Different people are raised to look at
the world from different perspectives, so not everyone will have the same opinions on the matter of a
specific topic. Consequently, readers are subjected to opinionated articles which may be biased
towards a certain position that may either adulate or belittle the subject, depending on the author s
position on the topic. This essay will highlight the biases that occur in histiography in everyday
writing and how they may affect how audiences perceive a certain event in history. Specifically, an
international event that was reported by various different countries is Saudia Arabia s decision to
execute Prince Turki bin Sad al Kabir. This event occured on October 18, 2016. Executing a member
of the royal family is considered to be rare in Saudia Arabia, as the last time it has happened was in
1975, where Faisal bin Musaid bin Abdulaziz Al Saud was beheaded for taking the life of King Faisal.
(North Korea Times, October 20, 2016). The method in which the prince was executed was not

Genocide Throughout History Essay
Genocide Throughout History Throughout the history of mankind, horrific acts of genocide have been
committed. The Crusades, the Native American being murdered by the Europeans, the Forced Famine
in the Ukraine and the Killing Fields of Cambodia are all examples of genocide (Altman,55). The
word genocide comes from the Greek phrase genos meaning race or tribe and Latin root cide meaning
to kill (Altman,13). Genocide can be defined as acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in

The Nazi s accomplished their goal by rising to power, using techniques such as propaganda. Hitler
portrayed his victims as evil (Altman, 14). The term Hitler used was Untermenschem meaning
subhuman (Ayer, 9). Jews were not the only victims of the Nazi s. Gypsies, communists, male
homosexuals, Jehovah witnesses, Poles, political enemies, and the physically and metally handicapped
also suffered (Ayer, 9). Even thought Hitler killed many people, Jews were his most targeted victims.
Hitler s process of exterminating his victims was inhuman and extremely organized. Hitler used the
Jews as a scapegoat for all of Germany s problems. Hitler made glorious speeches to his people about
the importance of the Third Reich Empire or master race. Hitler strongly believed that German
speaking people were superior to all others. Hitler explained to his people the necessity of an empire

Essay on Controversy Behind South Park s Ethics
Controversy Behind South Park s Ethics
South Park, the animated TV series aired on Comedy Central was created by Matt Stone and Trey

parodies current events going on across the United States and throughout the world. South Park is just
one of many new shows that involve this sort of high end entertainment and they are taking the

FOX gave them $2,000 to make a video portfolio that he could send as a Christmas card to other
company executives to pitch the idea of the show. I did the animation using nothing more then
construction paper cutouts, Parker says, and we both improvised the dialogue, screaming obscenities
at each other in my basement for hours while my mom was baking fudge upstairs wondering what in
the world we were doing. It cost $750 and we pocketed the rest. To complete this project they used
relatively the same exact setup as they had previously done at the University of Colorado in Boulder.
When it came to doing work for the first Pilot show for South Park, Matt and Trey used more than
5,000 construction paper cut outs and a the same exact 16mm camera. Each action shot was filmed
frame by frame directly onto video film. It took approximately 70 days to make the pilot for the show.
Using traditional methods for the Comedy Central pilot the duo claimed it took us forever, because it
was 22 minutes long, Stone says. Another animator, Terrence Masson, was the first to suggest that
South Park could be made using CG and he proceeded to make a 10 second playground scene using
cut outs he had received with approval from Matt and Trey. Computers were used starting with the
very first episode, but the episodes didn t look like construction paper animation again until episode

Investment Case Study
Do the circumstances surrounding the sale of the Collinsville plant play any role in your willingness to
buy the assets? If so, how, if not, why not?
On the one hand, the circumstances of the sale make me less willing to buy. In particular, both
Universal and the federal government think that American s acquisition creates antitrust issues. If this
is the case, American could use its market power to change the nature of the market and make Dixon s
new plant unprofitable by setting lower prices for sodium chlorate in its other plants. On the other
hand, the circumstances make me more willing to buy the assets because American has to divest the
plant to comply with a court order. Therefore, they have less leverage during the sale ... Show more

With these assumptions, the present value of the total cash flows value the plant at $7.9M.[5] Under
this valuation, the $12M offer seems high and that Dixon should not make the investment without the
laminate technology. Even if we relax the assumptions and use the lower end WACC in our range of
14.5% and assume that capital expenditures will be the low end of the range at $475k per annum after
1984, the deal at $12M would still be dilutive because the DCF value is still only $8.9M.[6] At the
other extreme, assuming a WACC of 18.5% and capital expenditures of $600k per annum, the plant is
only worth $7.5M.
While the model above does not account for the return of working capital at the end of year in 1989,
the discounted value of this working capital is only worth about $650k and therefore does not
substantially alter the analysis.
Given this analysis, the deal is dilutive and Dixon should not make the investment.
2) Evaluate the marginal impact of the laminate technology (i.e. net present value of the costs savings
and expenses assuming that without laminate, graphite costs go up 5% per year after 1984 and power
costs rise 12% after 1984).
The laminate technology requires an upfront capital expenditure of $2.25M that can be straight line
depreciated over 10 years. This laminate will eliminate graphite costs completely and reduce power
costs by 15 20%. Assuming the

RA is a mediated inflammatory process that triggers an autoimmune response. The result is in the
production of antibodies and inflammatory cytokines that over time destroys bone, cartilage, tendons,

destruction, the inflammatory process can also affect various organs, such as heart tissue including the

Complementary Alternative Therapy
The National Health Institute defines complementary alternative therapy as a health care methodology
used outside of or in addition to mainstream medicine (National Center for Complementary and

as supplements, (2) body manipulation, such as massage, chiropractic, reflexing and osteopathy, (3)
mind and body therapies, consisting of yoga, tai chi, meditation, biofeedback and hypnosis, (4) energy

Traditionally, animated films have been made for and consumed by children, with the plotlines and
themes being relatively basic and forthright. However, recent years have seen the release of animated
films that explore significantly more adult themes and thought provoking ideas. Perhaps the most
confronting example of adult themes in an animated film is in 2016 s Zootopia . The film forces
viewers to think about concepts such as racial segregation, nature vs. nurture and the debilitating
effect of stereotyping. Although Zootopia features anthropomorphic animals, it is easy to draw a
connection between the film s prey vs. predator narrative and racial divide in our own society.
In essence, this paper will outline two significant themes related to crime and the effect of media
explored in the film. Most notably, the nature of crime and criminality is explored thoroughly.
Specifically, the effect limited opportunities and racial stereotyping can have on promoting an
individual down a path of crime. Particular attention will be given to a scene in which a youthful fox
wishes to join a prey dominant Boy Scout troop, only to be rejected and humiliated because he is a
predator. Furthermore, the concept of a moral panic caused by media news reporting is displayed
excellently in a montage scene in which prey are scared of predators as the media reports that
aggression and criminality is in their nature. Finally, I will critique how these issues are communicated

Who Is Sydney Carton A Hero
Sydney Carton s main role in the book was to be the complete opposite of Charles Darnay. He was in
insane love with Darnay s wife, Lucie, but could never have her because of his personal issues. He
was a guy who didn t change his ways throughout the book, but at the end of the book he had one big
surprise. His love for Lucie was unbreakable and their was nothing that could get in the way of it.
Everything Carton did in the book was based on Lucy and how it would affect their relationship.
Throughout the book Carton realizes that he doesn t stand a chance with Lucy, but still does
everything he can to make sure she is happy.
In the book, Sydney Carton said, For you, and for any dear to you, I would do anything. If my career

You could make case for both sides of the argument. In the paragraph before, I made a case for how
Carton wouldn t be considered a hero. You could say he just took his life because he thought was
useless to this world and nothing he could do to change it. But you could also make a strong case for
Carton to be considered a hero. At the end of the book, Carton gave up his life so Charles Darnay
could live. Darnay was sent to court right when him and Lucie got back to England. After Carton hear
the news he thought maybe there was a chance Lucie would end up with him if Darnay got killed.
After realizing that Lucie wasn t going to want him regardless, he wanted to do what was best for
Lucie. He then went and talked to Lucie and Dr. Monnet about his plan. He was going to switch spots
with Darnay so they could put him to death and not Darnay. At first they thought it was going to be
very difficult for them to pull it off, but they managed to do it. He was able to do this because him and
Darnay look just alike. He did this because he came to the realization that him and Lucie were never
going to be together, so he did what he knew would make Lucie the

Warehouse
Safety in Warehouses
Warehouses, large or small, can be hazardous places. The following details highlight some of the risks
that might exist in your warehouse and the steps you can take to prevent accidents. The list is by no
means exhaustive and will vary according to the particular type of premises and operation. As a
starting point, use the blank sheet provided in this pack and carry out your own simple risk
assessment.
Main Types of Hazard
Storage and Racking Incorrectly stacked goods may fall injuring staff below. Overloading of
shelves/racks may lead to collapse. Unsafe methods of stacking or retrieval of goods may lead to falls

Analysis Of Late Feudalism In Japan
Modern Japan with its bright lights, big cities, rich culture, and modern technology makes it one of the
most popular tourist destinations in the world. Despite being considered a modern, developed country,
one can argue that it is still dragging behind in terms of social equality. This is the result of grueling
efforts to depart from ancient traditional customs, most of which took place only a couple of centuries
ago. Even though there is still much to be done, relatively speaking, a thorough analysis of Japanese
historical literature illustrates that individualism in Japan has come a long way since the Tokugawa
period. Late Feudalism in Japan was characterized by its contradictory nature of being centralized
politically while maintaining feudal institutions, thus earning the title of a centralized feudalist state
(Reischauer, pg. 73 74). Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first shogun of the Tokugawa bakufu, wanted to
encourage an era of peace after the constant bloodbath that occurred during the second phase of
feudalism in Japan, and this was the basis of most of the changes that distinguish Late Feudalism from
the other two phases. The most notable change he implemented was the revival of Confucianism; this
resulted in declining rates of crime and violence and a rise in literacy rates, a phenomenon that was
based on Confucius famous phrase, The gentleman is not a utensil (Confucian Analects, Handout #1).
In terms of individualism, Confucianism encouraged individuals to

What Is The Importance Of Teaching Courses At The Rice...
Since coming to the Rice University in 2012, I have taught three courses at undergraduate and
graduate levels.
The large variety of audiences, ranging from undergraduate juniors, professional masters, first year
graduate students, and advanced graduate students majored in nuclear and particle physics, required
me to develop different teaching objectives and approaches. I have received strong positive feedback
from the students. I am mentoring a highly productive research group consisting of postdoc fellows,
graduate students, and undergraduate students.
Postdoc, Maxime Guilbaud, was awarded a textbf{2015 CMS Achievement Award} and a

Graduate students have already developed a certain level of proficiency in learning new materials and
solving problems independently.
I believe the best approach for advanced graduate courses is to guide the students through a broad
range of topics so that they can perform in depth reading of the materials outside the class.
Following this philosophy, instead of presenting traditional lectures,
I gave reading assignment for each chapter of the main textbook, and designated one student to give a
lecture to the class every time. Toward the end of each lecture,
I added important points that were either not covered or not explained very clearly.
In this way, everyone in the class was actively engaged in reading course materials and participating in
discussions. Besides, I regularly organized reading session of original scientific papers to stimulate
thinkings and intriguing discussions.
I have taught the undergraduate course on textit{``Intermediate Electrodynamics } in the Spring
semester since 2015.
This is a core course for junior students majored in physics. It is the first time students systematically
learn the important subjects such as Maxwell Equations and Special
Relativity, and associated mathematical tools (such as vector and tensor algebra, partial differential
equation, etc.), which are crucial for developing a solid

A New Drug Development Process
Introduction: A new drug development process starts with animal testing, before it is been tested in
humans. These animal studies are designed to ensure that the drug is effective and safe in animals.
Moreover, the results obtained should be reproducible. But even the reproducible results on animal
studies cannot provide relevant prediction of the safe and effectiveness of a new drug. Scientists often
stipulate the structural and physiological similarities between human and animals as a reason for
performing animal testing and then relating or extrapolating the results for the first in human clinical
testing, also known as Phase I clinical trials. Although, it is very clear that the human life expectancy
is much higher compared to animals, because of the way things metabolize in human body, or to the
environment a human body is exposed to or due to the minute genetic difference between human
species and some other species. Also, diseases which are imposed by genetic engineering into the
animals during animal studies differ significantly than the natural occurrence of a disease. Scientists
are aware of these flaws that come with the use of animal model testing, like drugs that may be safe
and effective in animals might not necessarily be safe and effective in humans. One such example is
Thalidomide , which was used in 1950 s as a sedative product and was used to treat morning sickness
of pregnant women. This drug was totally safe and effective in animals, but when used

History Is The Most Important Subject Of Education Essay
I believe history is the most important subject of education. It s very interesting how it s found in all
other subjects from arts, to sciences, to religion. Consider history s life in economics. Housing has its
story with its suppliers, sellers, buyers and owners. Let s briefly look at the recent history of this
temperamental market in the United States. If we aren t making progress in this market, how may we
begin to do so? The housing crisis in 2007 08 was characterized by the low classes being unable to
pay for their mortgages. The housing bubble, reaching its greatest size in 2006, prepared this particular
crisis. Decisions made by financial institutions combined with consumers decisions about borrowing
played major roles in the inflation and burst of the bubble. Many decisions were made because of
political influence. Yet, it is as Thomas Sowell stated in his book The Housing Boom and Bust that,
There was no single dramatic event that set this off... A whole series of very questionable decisions
made by many people, in many places, over a period of years, built up the pressures that led to the
sudden collapse of the housing market and of financial institutions that began to fall like dominoes as
a result of investing in securities based on housing prices. Sowell continues, The causes of the housing
boom and bust have been as general as the flaws and shortcomings of human beings and as specific as
the effects of Federal Reserve System policy on interest

Ancient Aztec Art
The modern concept of art as a form of individual expression would not have made much sense to
most Aztec artists, particularly those in the visual arts painting, sculpture, and metalworking. For most
Aztec artists their works were not meant to express feelings or thoughts, nor were they meant to be
beautiful or pleasing to view. Art was almost entirely in the service of Aztec religion. Since the Aztec
common people could not read, art was the central means of conveying the ideas and stories of the
spirit world and communicating religious truths to them. Sculptures of the gods were necessary for
worship. These statutes, often made in the detailed image of one of the gods, existed in every Aztec
home. There were thousands in temples and in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first discovery of Olmec art was a colossal head, found in the area of Tres Zapotes in 1862. As of
2004 seventeen colossal heads have been located in several sites. These, like much Olmec art, were
designed to glorify the Olmec rulers. For the Olmecs, art was meant to give power to the shaman or
ruler. The massive altars made of enormous carved basalt blocks weighing up to 44 tons (40 metric
tons), for instance, are believed to have served as thrones for the Olmec kings. At the bottom and front
of each of these altars was a carved niche. A small human figure sits in the niche, holding either a
were jaguar on his lap or a cord in his hand, or both. The niche, according to experts, represents a
cave, or the entrance to the supernatural world and the ruler s ties to the gods. The process of entering
into the otherworld the world of the supernatural is central to most Olmec art. Though they were
masters at stone carving, the Olmec were also highly skilled potters and stone cutters. Much of their
pottery depicts nagual transformations the jaguar in particular, but also the harpy (part bird, part
woman), shark, and caiman (a kind of crocodile found in Central and South America). Among Olmec
artifacts, archaeologists have found many life sized ceramic human infants made from white clay.
They are realistic portraits and beautifully crafted, but experts are not

Teenage Cosmetic Surgery
TEENAGE COSMETIC SURGERY
How young should some one be before they are ready to have cosmetic surgery? According to the
American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery reports the number of girls eight teen and younger
getting cosmetic surgeries, such as breast augmentations has nearly tripled from 3,872 in the year of
2002 to 11,326 in the year of 2003 ( Farrell 1 ). The increasing number of teenage girls under twenty
having cosmetic surgeries should be aware of the risks, know that their bodies aren t ready to go under
such procedures and that they should not allow the media or low self esteem influence their decisions.
One cause for teens participating in cosmetic surgery is because the media portrays an unreality view
of beauty. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many teens idolize a celebrity, which is normal, but wanting to be or look like one is a different
subject. Some teens bring in a picture of a celebrity and allow the doctor to show them how they may
be able to have features more like the celebrity. Many cosmetic surgeons discourage anyone wanting
to look exactly like anyone else. This is unrealistic and may indicate a more serious problem like
Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD). BDD is the inability of an individual to see how they appear.
(Palmer). People who have BDD tend to have a distorted view of themselves meaning they don t see
themselves the ways other people do. These teens believe that cosmetic surgery will solve their
physically problems, but looking like some else doesn t help them figure out who they are.
Brown 5
One of the concerns about plastic surgery on adolescents is that their bodies are still maturing. In
addition to development that may occur in the late teens, growth charts indicate that the average girl
gains weight between the ages of 18 and 21, that is likely to change her desire or need for breast
augmentations as well as liposuction. (Zuckerman
1). A teenager s body may not be fully developed until they reach 18 or maybe even 21. With that said
some cosmetic surgeries, not all but most, can interfere with the body s natural growth. No matter how
much a teenager may want breast augmentations, liposuction, or cheek

There are two main forms of diabetes: type 1 and type 2. Type 1 diabetes is a genetically autoimmune

People do not even stay committed to their relationships with each other, let alone themselves. How can you ever stay committed to anyone else if you are not committed to yourself first? Commitment is hard enough because there are so many distractions in the world that divert attention. Think about summertime when everyone gets undressed. For men, it might be a beautiful woman in a skimpy outfit or a luxury sports car without the car cover. For women, it might be a male in a skimpy outfit as well such as a Chippendales dancer or the latest hairstyle without a winter hat. There is always someone or something that will catch your attention and divert it. On the flip side, we need to show some loyalty to what we already have in front of us. In William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily and Charlotte Perkins Gilman s The Yellow Wallpaper, the two main characters exhibit behavior that some readers may consider unusual or even totally crazy. These two women are having a difficult time adjusting to the many changes taking place around them. In the midst of these changes, they face the struggles of being women such as post partum depression and love and rejection from men. Such problems become so overbearing that each woman ends up in their own delusional world which in turn, leads to their isolation and insanity. Since her husband is away most of the time and leaves her in confinement, the woman immerses herself into studying the wallpaper [following] the pattern about by the hour (317). She follows all the twist and turns of the wallpaper, decoding each detail and discovers what she seems to be a woman in a cage. She spends all her time looking at the paper that she eventually becomes obsessed with figuring out the patterns. She begins to identify with the woman in the cage which could signify her imprisonment in the room and her being tormented by her husband s lack of sympathy for her condition and his dominance in their marriage. Just as male dominance is an issue for the woman in Gilman s work, Faulkner s A Rose for Emily details how Emily s father and love interest dictate her life. Unlike the woman in The Yellow Wallpaper being dominated by her own husband, Emily Grierson was under her father s control since an early age. Her, father who was described as a spraddled silhouette and clutching a horsewhip , would chase away any prospective mates for his daughter (Faulkner, 288). Gerism took pity on Ivan which was something Ivan wanted, Gerasim s attitude towards him there was something akin to what he wished for, so the attitude comforted him, (Tolstoy p.168). Through acknowledging Ivan s failing health Gerism gave Ivan something he thought he never truly had which was a real human relationship. Just by showing simple kindness Gerism caused Ivan to rethink his entire life. Still, a question remains not about Ivan, but about Gerism and did he fight his destiny or was he accepting of his purpose? We shall all of us die so why should I grudge a little trouble? is the reply Gerism gave when Ivan questioned why Gerism was helping him. Toylse goes deeper into this question, expressing that Gerism didn t think helping Ivan was a burden because one day Gerism hoped someone would do the same for him (Tolstoy p.168). Gerism destiny was to show Ivan what a good life looked liked with someone who wasn t part of Ivan s high society driven friends. • 13. Horror Argument For Horror Movies Horror Genre Argument One in four college students in a recent study said they experience lingering effects of a frightful movie or TV experience from childhood. (Bernie DeGroat) Fear is an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief the someone or something is dangerous causing pain, or threats. It is not appropriate for middle schoolers to read classic horror stories like The Tell Tale Heart , because they can cause them anxiety and it can make them aggressive after watching scary movies. Horror movies can cause middle schoolers anxiety because horror movies have different components not appropriate for children. This fear and anxiety of horror movies can cause pain or threats. This means that even after the movie is done, middle schoolers can feel anxious and uneasy because they saw violence and other things in the movie that can happen in the real world. In the text The Tell Tale Heart the narrator states I made up my mind to take the life of the old man, thus riding myself of the eye forever . This means that the narrator has decided to take the life of the old man because of his eye. Middle Schoolers might interpret this as okay to kill a man because of his eye. Oscar Wilde states that the writing of history is not an easy task that can be executed well by many. This is evident in the biases that are incorporated into many authors writings on history. For instance, newspaper articles are typically littered with various biases depending on the origin of the author. Different people are raised to look at the world from different perspectives, so not everyone will have the same opinions on the matter of a specific topic. Consequently, readers are subjected to opinionated articles which may be biased towards a certain position that may either adulate or belittle the subject, depending on the author s position on the topic. This essay will highlight the biases that occur in histiography in everyday writing and how they may affect how audiences perceive a certain event in history. Specifically, an international event that was reported by various different countries is Saudia Arabia s decision to execute Prince Turki bin Sad al Kabir. This event occured on October 18, 2016. Executing a member of the royal family is considered to be rare in Saudia Arabia, as the last time it has happened was in 1975, where Faisal bin Musaid bin Abdulaziz Al Saud was beheaded for taking the life of King Faisal. • 18. Investment Case Study Do the circumstances surrounding the sale of the Collinsville plant play any role in your willingness to buy the assets? If so, how, if not, why not? On the one hand, the circumstances of the sale make me less willing to buy. In particular, both Universal and the federal government think that American s acquisition creates antitrust issues. If this is the case, American could use its market power to change the nature of the market and make Dixon s new plant unprofitable by setting lower prices for sodium chlorate in its other plants. On the other hand, the circumstances make me more willing to buy the assets because American has to divest the plant to comply with a court order. Therefore, they have less leverage during the sale ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With these assumptions, the present value of the total cash flows value the plant at $7.9M.[5] Under this valuation, the $12M offer seems high and that Dixon should not make the investment without the laminate technology. Even if we relax the assumptions and use the lower end WACC in our range of 14.5% and assume that capital expenditures will be the low end of the range at $475k per annum after 1984, the deal at $12M would still be dilutive because the DCF value is still only $8.9M.[6] At the other extreme, assuming a WACC of 18.5% and capital expenditures of $600k per annum, the plant is only worth $7.5M. While the model above does not account for the return of working capital at the end of year in 1989, the discounted value of this working capital is only worth about $650k and therefore does not substantially alter the analysis. Given this analysis, the deal is dilutive and Dixon should not make the investment. 2) Evaluate the marginal impact of the laminate technology (i.e. net present value of the costs savings and expenses assuming that without laminate, graphite costs go up 5% per year after 1984 and power costs rise 12% after 1984). Although joints are the primary areas of destruction, the inflammatory process can also affect various organs, such as heart tissue including the heart values, visceral layers of the lung and brain, spleen, sclera and larynx (Dunphy, Windland Brown, Porter, Thomas 2011). If RA is not treated promptly or if the patient does not respond to treatment, irrevocable bone deformity, bone erosion and immobility is often the sequelae. Standards of treatment According ... Tai Chi and Omega 3 fatty acid supplement are two types of CAM that show potential to improve the patient s mental state, decrease pain, reduce inflammation and improve functional mobility. Complementary Alternative Therapy The National Health Institute defines complementary alternative therapy as a health care methodology used outside of or in addition to mainstream medicine (National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM), 2013). CAM is divided into five groups: (1) oral based product, such as supplements, (2) body manipulation, such as massage, chiropractic, reflexing and osteopathy, (3) mind and body therapies, consisting of yoga, tai chi, meditation, biofeedback and hypnosis, (4) energy touches, which includes Reiki, Gigong, and prayer; and (5) holistic approaches, such as homeopathy, naturopathy, traditional Chinese and Indian medicine. According to Efthimiou, Kukar, and Mackenzie (2009) there has been exponential growth in those who seek CAM. In 2010, data demonstrates that 40 60% of Americans use CAM to cope with medical conditions. This growth trend is attributed to increased public awareness through social media and patient s desires to try something new and promising. • 20. Themes And Themes Of The Film Zootopia Traditionally, animated films have been made for and consumed by children, with the plotlines and themes being relatively basic and forthright. However, recent years have seen the release of animated films that explore significantly more adult themes and thought provoking ideas. Perhaps the most confronting example of adult themes in an animated film is in 2016 s Zootopia . The film forces viewers to think about concepts such as racial segregation, nature vs. nurture and the debilitating effect of stereotyping. Although Zootopia features anthropomorphic animals, it is easy to draw a connection between the film s prey vs. predator narrative and racial divide in our own society. In essence, this paper will outline two significant themes related to crime and the effect of media explored in the film. Most notably, the nature of crime and criminality is explored thoroughly. Specifically, the effect limited opportunities and racial stereotyping can have on promoting an individual down a path of crime. Particular attention will be given to a scene in which a youthful fox wishes to join a prey dominant Boy Scout troop, only to be rejected and humiliated because he is a predator. Furthermore, the concept of a moral panic caused by media news reporting is displayed excellently in a montage scene in which prey are scared of predators as the media reports that aggression and criminality is in their nature. Finally, I will critique how these issues are communicated in a neo noir ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At the end of the book, Carton gave up his life so Charles Darnay could live. Darnay was sent to court right when him and Lucie got back to England. After Carton hear the news he thought maybe there was a chance Lucie would end up with him if Darnay got killed. • 23. Analysis Of Late Feudalism In Japan Modern Japan with its bright lights, big cities, rich culture, and modern technology makes it one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. Despite being considered a modern, developed country, one can argue that it is still dragging behind in terms of social equality. This is the result of grueling efforts to depart from ancient traditional customs, most of which took place only a couple of centuries ago. Even though there is still much to be done, relatively speaking, a thorough analysis of Japanese historical literature illustrates that individualism in Japan has come a long way since the Tokugawa period. Late Feudalism in Japan was characterized by its contradictory nature of being centralized politically while maintaining feudal institutions, thus earning the title of a centralized feudalist state (Reischauer, pg. 73 74). Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first shogun of the Tokugawa bakufu, wanted to encourage an era of peace after the constant bloodbath that occurred during the second phase of feudalism in Japan, and this was the basis of most of the changes that distinguish Late Feudalism from the other two phases. The most notable change he implemented was the revival of Confucianism; this resulted in declining rates of crime and violence and a rise in literacy rates, a phenomenon that was based on Confucius famous phrase, The gentleman is not a utensil (Confucian Analects, Handout #1). In terms of individualism, Confucianism encouraged individuals to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I believe the best approach for advanced graduate courses is to guide the students through a broad range of topics so that they can perform in depth reading of the materials outside the class. Following this philosophy, instead of presenting traditional lectures, I gave reading assignment for each chapter of the main textbook, and designated one student to give a lecture to the class every time. Toward the end of each lecture, I added important points that were either not covered or not explained very clearly. In this way, everyone in the class was actively engaged in reading course materials and participating in discussions. • 25. A New Drug Development Process Introduction: A new drug development process starts with animal testing, before it is been tested in humans. These animal studies are designed to ensure that the drug is effective and safe in animals. Moreover, the results obtained should be reproducible. But even the reproducible results on animal studies cannot provide relevant prediction of the safe and effectiveness of a new drug. Scientists often stipulate the structural and physiological similarities between human and animals as a reason for performing animal testing and then relating or extrapolating the results for the first in human clinical testing, also known as Phase I clinical trials. Although, it is very clear that the human life expectancy is much higher compared to animals, because of the way things metabolize in human body, or to the environment a human body is exposed to or due to the minute genetic difference between human species and some other species. Also, diseases which are imposed by genetic engineering into the animals during animal studies differ significantly than the natural occurrence of a disease. Scientists are aware of these flaws that come with the use of animal model testing, like drugs that may be safe and effective in animals might not necessarily be safe and effective in humans. One such example is Thalidomide , which was used in 1950 s as a sedative product and was used to treat morning sickness of pregnant women. This drug was totally safe and effective in animals, but when used ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It s very interesting how it s found in all other subjects from arts, to sciences, to religion. Consider history s life in economics. Housing has its story with its suppliers, sellers, buyers and owners. Let s briefly look at the recent history of this temperamental market in the United States. If we aren t making progress in this market, how may we begin to do so? The housing crisis in 2007 08 was characterized by the low classes being unable to pay for their mortgages. The housing bubble, reaching its greatest size in 2006, prepared this particular crisis. Decisions made by financial institutions combined with consumers decisions about borrowing played major roles in the inflation and burst of the bubble. Many decisions were made because of political influence. Yet, it is as Thomas Sowell stated in his book The Housing Boom and Bust that, There was no single dramatic event that set this off... A whole series of very questionable decisions made by many people, in many places, over a period of years, built up the pressures that led to the sudden collapse of the housing market and of financial institutions that began to fall like dominoes as a result of investing in securities based on housing prices. For most Aztec artists their works were not meant to express feelings or thoughts, nor were they meant to be beautiful or pleasing to view. Art was almost entirely in the service of Aztec religion. Since the Aztec common people could not read, art was the central means of conveying the ideas and stories of the spirit world and communicating religious truths to them. As of 2004 seventeen colossal heads have been located in several sites. These, like much Olmec art, were designed to glorify the Olmec rulers. For the Olmecs, art was meant to give power to the shaman or ruler. The massive altars made of enormous carved basalt blocks weighing up to 44 tons (40 metric tons), for instance, are believed to have served as thrones for the Olmec kings. At the bottom and front of each of these altars was a carved niche. A small human figure sits in the niche, holding either a were jaguar on his lap or a cord in his hand, or both. The niche, according to experts, represents a cave, or the entrance to the supernatural world and the ruler s ties to the gods.
