Raisin In The Sun Movie Vs Play
Every word in a literary composition adds more sense, if it is presented in a meaningful way. We can
see various differences between the presentation of Hansberry s play in 1961 and 2008 Act 1 Scene 1,
though they are trying to convey the same message. Both of the scenes are trying to show the dream of
a middle class man, and their day to day circumstances while chasing their dream. The main notion of
the play was to portray about the struggle of African American in the society ruled by white people.
The play was written by African American woman in 1957 and for the first time it was filmed in 1961.
At that time the society was dominated by white people. Though the play wanted to show the idea of
discrimination among white and black people, the movie released in 1961 could not perfectly express
its idea of racism. While in the newer version of movie released in 2008, it s more open and obvious
about the discrimination. The newer version of the movie has added more specifics about the racial
discrimination because the society now has become more understanding and open regarding racial
issues. Act 1 Scene 1 revolves around five characters; Walter, his wife Ruth, his son Travis, his sister

That shows the characteristic of a modern housewife. Most of the things and ideas they want to

of the movie adds more difference which can be seen in both the

Violence In A Long Way Gone By Ishmael Beah
Violence is a very common theme seen throughout the novel A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah. The
violence begins when a Civil War erupts in the country of Sierra Leone. Ishmael Beah is forced to be a
child soldier by refugees who take over his village. They come into his home town and kill many of
the men, women and children who lived there. This is a very detrimental time during Ishmael s life
because he is still a very young boy experiencing this. The violence that the rebels exhibit,
successfully terrify the people of these villages. This fear forces young boys into physical and mental
slavery. They become child soldiers under the authority of the rebels of RUF. I noticed that throughout
the novel, Ishmael became more cautious and paranoid. He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

49) In this quote, Ishmael explains how something as simple as his shadow would scare him. He
became mentally exhausted just as much as physical. The violence that the RUF rebels exhibited and
instilled into the villagers was very effective. To terrify someone to the point where their own shadow
scares them, means you have mental control over them. The rebels of RUF effectively used violence
to instill fear and obedience into the villagers of Sierra Leone. People of the village even turn on
Ishmael and his friends throughout the book. Many of the villagers don #39;t trust them and are afraid
because they stayed together in a group walking through villages. Also, the violence intentionally
created distrust amongst families. Boys turned their backs on their own fathers for the RUF. Violence
was also created through the RUF rebels forcing the child soldiers to smoke brown brown . This drug
was mixed with marijuana, cocaine and gunpowder. They used to this to control them and to have a
substance that #39;ll make them do whatever they wanted them to. Ishmael barely ever sleeps

Summary of The Book of Habakkuk Essay
It is believed that the book of Habakkuk was written to Judah around the year 606 B.C., as Nineveh no
longer exists, so it has to have been written some time after Nahum. There is nothing known about this
prophet outside of this book, and it is believed that Habakkuk wrote the book himself, but it is
uncertain. His name means embraced or could even be the name of an Assyrian flower. Also known as
the prophet of the watchtower, he was one of the last prophets to write before the Babylonian
captivity. Habakkuk was not written to prophecy to Judah or Israel about their destruction, but was
written as if to God, with Habakkuk asking Him questions. Among the complaints and questions that
Habakkuk brings to God, the most prevalent is this: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, God s punishment for the Chaldeans is coming, as we see. Woe to him who covets evil gain
for his house...for the stone will cry out from the wall, and the beam from the timbers will answer it .
Covetousness is a major problem for most men, back in that time as well as today, but seeking to gain
things through evil and wicked methods is even worse. The Chaldeans seek to expand their kingdom
through evil methods and wicked actions, and yet the things that they have gained are not to last.
Eventually their kingdom will crumble, and they will cease to be a mighty nation. Woe to him who
builds a town with bloodshed...for the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of The
Lord, as the waters cover the sea. The saying He who lives by the sword, will die by the sword. comes

murder, the whole world will witness the glory of The Lord, and will see His power brought against
them. They are an unnecessarily bloody nation, and because of this, I guess you could say they they
will soon become an even more bloody nation as they face the wrath of God. Woe to him who says to

Ganondorf is never first to arrive when the council is summoned. Though he is never tardy, Ganondorf
does make them wait. His fellows trickle in, some in groups, others one or two at a time. Some of
them rush to have Harkinian s ear before the rest, so they might curry favor for one scheme or against
some threat, real or imagined. Ganondorf found, quite some time ago in fact, that he simply did not
care enough to be bothered. He had enemies, no doubt, but none of them were ever quite bold enough
to plot against him. And there was nothing under the sun that Harkinian could give him, or that he
would ever stoop low enough to ask for. Harkinian never begins until they are all present and
accounted for. So they must wait, tense and long minutes that tick on like lifetimes. When Ganondorf
enters, the last of a long train of Hylian nobles, it is no grand affair. The doors swing open and clatter
against the walls and he stands in the threshold, to ensure he is seen. He is always dressed simply, in
his general s regalia, the Triforce stamped in yellow the bright red cape on his shoulders. Still, a hush

Strategic Rationale For The Acquisition Of Myer Holdings...
1 Strategic rationale for the acquisition of Myer Holdings Limited 1.1 Growth motive The main
reason for this Mergers Acquisitions(M A) activity is the growing scale of Premier Investments
Limited (Premier). The target for acquisition is Myer Holdings Limited(Myer). Myer is an important
customer for Premier with significant common interest. And the competitor, Woolworths South
Africa(Woolworths) has already achieved the David Jones acquisition. Therefore, Premier choose
Myer as the target for acquisition. 1.1.1 Growing scale and Geographic the acquisition of Myer will
greatly help Premier expand its retails into some new geographic regions and acquire more
capabilities faster with lower risk than developing them internally. M A activity does help Premier get
benefits on location from industry consolidation and acquire the control over supplier. 1.1.2
Competitive position For both Myer and Premier, the M A is an appropriate way to satisfy the higher
return for their shareholders and enhance their economic strength. In addition, Premier will enhance
its rate of innovation through acquiring new technology and intellectual property. Also, Premier can
diversify the company s products into some new market segments and attract new customers and
partners. Also, this M A activity can improve the market competitiveness of Premier against other
strong competitors in Australian market and such as Woolworths. 1.2 Synergy The acquisition of Myer
has the robust view on synergy for

international treaties in Nigeria for regulating the activities of multinational oil companies through
human rights enforcement and protection of the environment. 3.1 NATIONAL LAWS As sovereign
nation, Nigeria has power to enact laws relating to foreign investment and for human right protection
of her citizens. On the other hand Nigeria has signed several BITs for protection of the foreign
investor (including MNCs) but these BITs must be reconciled with need for the foreign investors to

It implies that pollution of the environment in the Niger Delta Area of Nigeria by the MNCs coupled
with other human right abuses is tantamount to deprivation of rights to life and human dignity. Section
9(1)(b)(iii) of the Petroleum Act 1969 provides that the Minster of Petroleum can make laws relating
to prevention of pollution of water courses and the atmosphere . Further provisions against pollution
of the marine environment in the course of oil drilling is in Regulation 25 of the Petroleum (Drilling
and Production) Regulations 1969 made pursuant to the Petroleum Act. However the law lacks
defined standard to guard against pollution. The requirements that the MNCs should carry out
exploration of oil in proper and workmanlike manner and with good oil field practice are vague and do
not define any standard . The Associated Gas Re injection Act 1979 which seeks to restrict and
regulate flaring of associated gas provides for period of time within which the oil companies would
begin to re inject gas and cease gas flaring, a major source of environmental pollution and health
hazard. Section 3 of the Act provides that gas flaring would cease by 1 January 1984 but by a proviso
the Minister of Petroleum could continue to permit oil companies to flare gas after the date. The
current position is that the Minister has permitted gas flaring overtime and deadline has been shifted
severally without any good result . The last

Are Humans Inherently Evil In Lord Of The Flies
Statement of intent: I am going to write a persuasive essay about how humans are born evil and are
conditioned by society to act civilised, using Lord of the Flies and Goldings idea that humans are
inherently evil, as well as current and historical events to expand on these ideas. The greatest trick the
devil pulled was convincing the world that there is only one of him David Wong. The critically
acclaimed novel Lord of the Flies written by Nobel Prize winning author William Golding explores
the idea that humans are inherently evil, among other ideas such as the loss of innocence, civilisation
versus savagery and much more. Golding portrayed the idea that humans are inherently evil through
the masterful use of symbols and motifs. In the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
World War II was the setting for some of the most horrific atrocities man has ever committed. Events
including the Holocaust, concentration camps, atomic bombings and many more were the cause of
over 80,000,000 deaths, which at the time was about 3% of the world s population. The acts of Hitler
and the Nazi party in the war were acts of pure evil. Hitler can be directly compared to Jack from Lord
of the Flies as Jack s leadership was based purely on striking fear into others. He made people believe
that if they didn t join him he would hunt and kill them. Hitler s leadership also followed some of this
vicious dictating. Another example of Golding s idea that humans are inherently evil was the murder
of James Patrick Bulger. James who was murdered on the 12th of February 1993 at the age of two. He
was abducted, tortured and murdered by two ten year old boys, Robert Thompson and Jon Venables.
The mere facts the two murderers were of such a young age and came from such good families is a
perfect example of humans are inherently evil and that evil is not taught or learnt, it is simply a part of

The Reason Why La Tomatina
The reason why La Tomatina is a big deal for people because it is a colorful tradition and make a good
excuse to show of young people throwing vegetables to each other. Before 2013 anywhere from forty
thousand to fifty thousand people crammed into this tomato fight. Numbers of people came to this
special celebration created a success. Last year s event bought some forty thousand people, due to
safety concerns of oversize of the crowd the organizers cut amount of people who were joining the
fight. It is almost unimportant in the landscape of popular Spanish celebrations. It was virtually
unknown outside of the small village where it is held until somehow it caught the eye of some major
media outlet. Another reason why some people do not participate is because they do not like tomato to
be thrown at. They replied that it is messy and people get hurt if they slip over. In this special
celebration, there is no political or religion importance to La Tomatina. In 1980, the organization of
the festival became the responsibility of the town. Soon this celebration became internationally
considerable and highly broadcasted by the use of international media. In the beginning, it was
forbidden in the early 1950 s but people spoke and the celebration was allowed with more contestants
and more frenetic feelings. The festivity was again cancelled till 1957, when as a sign of protest, the
tomato burial was held. Many parts of the world joined Tomatina like Chicago and etc. They also

Pros And Cons Of Banned Literature And Literary Canon
Banned Literature and Literary Canon Voltaire s work Essay on tolerance quotes I disapprove of what
you say, but will defend unto death your right to say it. This makes me to think about banned literature

Will Langas s Essay Human Existence Is In Peril
Will Langas The first speaker I agree with is Whitney Harris, whose essay, Human Existence Is In
Peril, touched on many ideals concerning God, the human condition, and our ultimate destiny. The
first point he made that I agreed with was that one can be balanced between their faith and science and
religious beliefs. Although he does not say much about the role of science in religion, he personally
found a way to incorporate both ways of life into his own set of beliefs. This is shown when he says,
We do not know where the first manifestation of that life the tiniest amoeba came from. To ignite the
spark of life required the hand of God (Harris). Personally, I am a very strong believer in science, and
I have a hard time defying logic in order to follow my own faith. This is why I have found ways to
combine my scientific beliefs with my religious beliefs, similar to what Whitney Harris has done in
his life. I believe that by tailoring our own beliefs to fit our spiritual needs, one can live a much
happier life than just following a strictly defined ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Harris was a prosecutor during the Nuremberg trials, and has seen some of the worst people to walk
on our planet. His lack of faith in humanity is shown when he says, Within these limits of survivability
man holds his destiny in his own hands. He has yet to prove his worthiness (Harris). As of now,
humans have repeatedly shown throughout history that they are unable to stop fighting. Very rarely
have humans been able to successfully put aside their contrasting opinions to solve a problem
together. Humans have been around for hundreds of thousands of years, yet we are still unable to put
aside our differences and strive for a common goal. This is why I agree with Harris when he expresses
his lack of confidence in the future of humanity. If we have not been able to achieve peace by now, it
is hard to hope for a better

Creation Myths In Hindu Religion
Our myth is a Hindu creation myth, titled In the Beginning and Forever was the One, the Absolute,
Iswara . In this myth, there is a multitude of mini creation myths, from the one and only Iswara, to
Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. All of these mini myths center in on the central idea that everything has
come from the one (Iswara) and will return to it, including Brahma s sleeping and waking cycles, in
which the world is either materialized or absorbed back into Iswara, completing the cycle every time
Brahma sleeps and wakes.
This specific creation myth is one out of many from the Hindu religion, and is told in many different
ways. Hindu myths frequently stress about cycles, and how everything begins, and has to end
somehow, and our myth was no exception. To dive deeper into the overall meaning of the myth, one

This moral applies to life as a whole. Life is incredibly precious, and is infinitely short compared to
the age of the universe. Pretty much everyone is aware of that, and yet, why are there still people out

A Summary OfThe Moths
Do you remember the last time you took a bath? A bath filled with bubbles, perhaps with a younger
sibling? What about the last time you stood in a bath, holding your dead grandmother, naked as moths
came out of her mouth? In the short story The Moths , by Helena Maria Viramontes, a young Latina
misfit granddaughter matures the moment her grandmother dies. Compared to her relationship with
her parents and her siblings, the bond she carried with her Abuelita was special. She found comfort
with her after receiving several whippings, broken her arm, puberty and even her first lie. (1) She
would gladly help her out with her gardening or cooking, although they hardly spoke, or hardly looked
at each other as they worked. Although she was rebellious and callous, human experience is conveyed
through magical realism, exemplifying the narrator s vulnerability towards her grandmother. The
moths first made an appearance as healing method for the narrator s bull hands , her Abuelita made a
balm out of dried moth wings and Vicks and rubbed [her] hands, shaped them back to size and it was
the strangest feeling (3). Immediately the moths are associated with healing. The dead moth wings are
used to heal the wellbeing of the narrator. Later, the moths are part of the grandmother s death, as
small, gray ones that came from her soul and out through her mouth flutter[ed] to light (16). At the

and order create the chaos of vengeance because when it fails, they would have the stress to seek the
vengeance that they want. (SS) Individuals should not seek revenge when justice has failed because
revenge is chaos, hurtful, and troubling. This can be seen in the literary works of Agatha Christie and
A.B. Guthrie. Both authors explore the universal theme that when justice fails, revenge will follow.
The characters in the stories plan and execute their revenge after justice has failed.
Those who seek revenge do so because it can create chaos. (TS) In the short historical fiction, Bargain,

invited to an island and they were killed one by one and each death was from a childish rhyme, the 10
little soldiers. When Justice Wargrave sent the letter, he said that he killed those 10 people just because
he wanted to commit a mystery murder and he didn t feel guilty. For some years past I have been
aware of a change within myself, a lessening of control a desire to act instead of to judge. I have
wanted let me admit it frankly to commit a murder myself (287). This is important because his motive
was just to create a murder mystery. This could have been revenge on the 10 guests murders, but the
people thinking about the deaths were really hurtful and emotional to them. When each of them were

revenge when justice has failed. However, this doesn t consider because people s motive was for
justice so why if it fails, do it for yourself and change your motive and it could lead to bad

Walter Moss An Age Of Progress Analysis
Today, most people take electricity for granted, especially in the United States and other developed
countries of the world. According to Walter Moss in his book, An Age of Progress?, Clashing
Twentieth Century Global Forces, during the twentieth century, perhaps no other technological
advancement, even the automobile, affected the people of the world more than electricity. Electricity
would become the foundation for the development of new technological advancements in industries
such as agriculture, health and science, environment, and technology. Production and consumption in
all these industries would continue to rise throughout the century with reliance on electricity to
flourish.
The widespread use of electricity started towards the end of the nineteenth century. At first electricity,
both in the United States and abroad, was used primarily for lighting streets, operating public transit,
and by stores, restaurants, and other commercial and industrial enterprises. The use of oil and candles
were still the typical way many people lit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Electrical Hazards And Safety By Kevin Burke
Electrical Hazards and Safety
Kevin Burke
1. INTRODUCTION
Everywhere nowadays there is electricity and devices that rely on electricity. Society is driven by the
need for energy and electricity generating plants now consume two fifths of U.S. energy from all
sources, including about 90% of America s coal and nearly 30% of its natural gas
(http://needtoknow.nas.edu/energy/energy sources/electricity/). The world today would not be nearly
as advanced had it not been for the increased use of electricity. Electricity has so many uses they are
seemingly innumerable, from use in air conditioners to cool people down. To making sure that
individuals can see in everyday life with the use of lighting, the list could go on forever. However with
this massive increase in electricity use there are also very drastic safety precautions that must be
followed to ensure safe use of electrical products. Safety is a huge part of using electricity because
having even a low voltage travel through the human body can kill someone. From a very young age it
is instilled that electricity is not something to play with and that adults should make sure an activity is
safe.
Safety is not only important for humans but also for the infrastructure of the electrical components.
People should ensure that they use surge protector and all of their wires are safe and not stripped. This
will guarantee safety for the products in their homes. It is crucial that anything that has

On Being Anointed and the Great Awakening Essay
Why do we need another Great awakening? When I think of an Awakening, even after our class, my
mind immediately goes to images of eighteenth century revivalists like Jonathan Edwards, George
Whitfield, Jereena Lee and a large constellation of other preaching giants of yesteryear. These men
and women created a legacy of spiritual fervor which has earned them a place in the annals of
American religious history. Their effectiveness as preachers of the word and proclaimers of truth
permeated a nation s consciousness and snatched the nation from spiritual decline.
Several questions arise as I think of the Awakenings of years past. My first question is whether our
nation is as spiritually receptive of an Awakening as it was two hundred years ... Show more content

Perhaps that is what we need a contemporary awakening to do. In the face of drone strikes, unending
poverty, mass incarceration, and myriad social issues with spiritual ramifications, an Awakening is
what is needed to turn this nation, its culture and its people around. I think there needs to be a turning
to a moral center; be it God (thinking out of my Christian context), or to a common place of civility
and mutual understanding. The church has a unique role to play in bringing renewal and restoration to
the brokenness of the world. I think that the mission the broken, crucified, despised Jesus was and is
healing brokenness. Jesus Christ was anointed to do the work of restoring a sick and sad nation. I,
therefore, hold as my point of departure that in Jesus Christ we are anointed to preach in a way that
will awaken the nation to wholeness and to the reality of God s reign on Earth. In light of my theme,
this paper hopes to accomplish three goals. My first goal is to reflect on the calling forth of bold,
brave, and anointed preachers in James A. Forbes book The Holy Spirit and Preaching. Second, I will
explore the preaching ministry of Howard Washington Thurman who, I think, exemplifies what it
means to operate in the anointing of Christ. Finally, I will take these considerations about the Holy
Spirit and Howard Thurman, and reflect on my own preaching ministry, which nears eleven

since computers and technology became mainstream artist have also started using the digital world as
their canvas. I started digital art when I first started on the computer and I ve been hooked ever since.
Digital art is a great way of drawing without making a mess on your desk, it s all accomplished in files
and programs on your computer. In the beginning there wasn t really any programs that allowed you to
freely draw what you wanted. When Windows XP first came out, many creative minds started to
realize there was a program called Paint on their desktop. Paint wasn t a very cutting edge program but
it was advanced for its time and many digital artists started with it. I actually believe that it is indeed
much easier to use a computer to draw than it is on a canvas or ... Show more content on

A Lesson Before Dying By Ernest Gaines
A hero is not only someone with superpowers but can be anyone. It can be anyone like you or me. A
hero is someone who is willing to stand up for other people. The book, A Lesson Before Dying, takes
place in Louisiana and is about an innocent Black man convicted and sent to the electric chair. In the
story there are real people that Ernest Gaines alludes to. Ernest Gaines makes an allusion to Joe Louis
and Jackie Robinson. Beside these two, Mamie Till also stepped up and was audacious. They were all
fearless and gave hope to many other people because of what they were doing. These heroes took a
stand against society and changed the world for everyone. A hero isn t just Superman but someone
who stands up for what they believe in and is a sense of hope for everyone. Jackie Robinson was the
first African American Major League Baseball player. In the article, Robinson was calm and knew
how to ignore the racism. Robinson didn t fight back when he was confronted with racism
(www.biography.com/jackie robinson). Jackie Robinson changed baseball by ending racial
segregation, which was allowing other African Americans to play in the major leagues. Jackie
Robinson succeeded in putting the prejudice and racial strife aside, and showed everyone what a

Introduced Species In Australia
An introduced species is a species that has arrived a new habitat, outside of its native distributional
range, by human activity. However, an introduced species can sometimes pose very serious problems
to the local ecosystem and require a lot of work and money to manage the issue. This report focus on
two main introduced species, the feral water buffaloes (Bubalus bubalis) and the European red foxes
(vulpes vulpes) which are both introduced into Australia in the 19th century. The consequences of the
introduction of these species and the way of management and recovery of the ecosystem are the main

Since the water buffaloes has caused such dramatic effect on the ecosystem and also spread the
disease in Kakadu national part, a extensive eradication program called Brucellosis and Tuberculosis
Eradication Campaign (BTEC) was initiated to reduce the population of water buffaloes (Jesser et al.
2008). This program was performed by aerial shooting from the helicopter. By then end of 1997, the
number of water buffaloes has reduced from around 20000 to only a few hundred left in the Kakadu
National Park. This sudden decline in water buffaloes numbers caused significant changes in
vegetation ground cover and biomass (Petty et al. 2007). However, weed (Mimosa pigra) control and
ongoing removal of buffaloes were required to rehabilitate the original ecosystem (Findlayson et al.
1997). The impact of buffaloes on ground level vegetation and soils in Kakadu National Park has
indirectly changed the living pattern such as the competitive relationships between plants and animals,
which, in turn, further altered the overall ecological structure of Kakadu. Thus, it was not enough to
revert the habitat to its previous state by simply removing the buffaloes. According to Petty and his
colleagues work in 2007, The impact of increase

The Daoist Outlook On Life
The Daoist Outlook On Life The Daodejing by Laozi is an eastern philosophical piece of literature; in
the Daodejing, the teachings of Daoism are taught. Daoism is a system of philosophical, ethical, and
religious Chinese teachings and practices that focus on living in harmony with the Dao and ones self.
The word Daodejing can be divided into three separate words; Dao, De, and Jing, which all have
different meanings. The Dao means way or path as the Dao helps guide the individual. The De means
virtue , personal character, or inner strength , which focuses on self realization, inner peace, and
balance; while the Jing means rules or instructions . Together, these three words can be translated to
mean Classic of the Way and Virtue or The Book of the Way and its Virtue . The practice of Daoism
and reading the Daodejing teaches individuals to flow with life while keeping a balance in all aspects
of the their daily life. Daoism does not make a distinction between metaphysics, epistemology, or
other ways of thinking. It also does not make a distinction between philosophy and religion. Instead,
both philosophy and religion are thought of as one in the Daodejing. For this reason, Daoism is an
exemplary type of philosophy for those who want to focus on their own self realization and
development while keeping in touch with those around them and nature. The Daoist outlook on life
focuses on the relationship between humanity and nature. In the Daodejing, there is a

I. Clear Error Standard on Appeal For Subsidiary Factual Matters
A. Teva Pharm. USA, Inc. v. Sandoz, Inc., 135 S. Ct. 831 (2015) The Supreme Court held that when
reviewing a district court s resolution of subsidiary factual matters during patent claim construction,
the Federal Circuit must apply the clear error standard, not a de novo standard of review.
1. Background The owner of a patent covering a manufacturing method for a multiple sclerosis drug

marketers filed counterclaims seeking declaratory judgment of non infringement, unenforceability,

On the original appeal in this case, the Federal Circuit reversed and remanded the district court s
finding of indefiniteness under the premise that a claim is indefinite only when it is not amenable to
construction or insolubly ambiguous. The Supreme Court in Nautilus v. Biosig Instruments Inc. 134
S.Ct. 2120, 2124 (2014) in its decision articulated the standard A patent is invalid for indefiniteness if
its claims, read in light of the specification delineating the patent, and the prosecution history, fail to
inform, with reasonable certainty those skilled in the art about the scope of the invention.
In light of the new standard set forth by the Supreme Court, the Federal Circuit addressed only the
issue of indefiniteness on remand. The question before the court was whether the district court erred in
holding that the spaced relationship as recited in claim 1, and referring to the spacing between the
common and live electrodes, was not distinctly pointed out and particularly claimed in the patent in
violation of 35 U.S.C. §

Franz Haydn Essay
Franz Joseph Haydn
Joseph Haydn is regarded as one of the greatest composers of the classical period. He is often called
the father of both the symphony and the string quartet, and he founded what is known as the Viennese
classical school, which consisted of himself, his friend, Wolfgang Mozart, and his pupil, Ludwig van
Beethoven. During his lifetime, he produced a mind boggling amount of music. He lived from the end
of the baroque period to the beginning of the romantic period, and presided over the transition
between them.
Franz Joseph Haydn was born in Rohrau, Austria, on April 1, 1732, to Mathias and Anna Maria Koller
Haydn. Joseph Haydn s parents had twelve children, but, sadly, six of them died during infancy. His

He retreated into his music, while she found consolation by spending a great deal of time in church.
In 1761, Count Morzin was forced to disband his orchestra due to financial problems. It wasn t long,
however, before Haydn was offered another job, this time in Eisenstadt, Austria, as assistant
Kapellmeister for Prince Paul Anton Esterhazy, who was greatly impressed by the music that Haydn
performed while he was with the Morzin orchestra.
Paul Anton died in 1762 and was succeeded by his brother Nicholas, who was also a music lover and
played the baryton (a brass wind instrument). Thus, Haydn composed more than a hundred trios for
baryton, viola, and bass during the next thirteen years. Haydn also composed several short operas and
a full length opera, named Acide.
Upon the death of Gregor Werner in 1766, Joseph Haydn was promoted to Kapellmeister (musical
director). Prior to his death, Werner earned slightly over half of the wage paid to his highly talented,
younger assistant. The orchestra was expanded, and Haydn composed four to five symphonies a year.
He also continued to compose operas.
In 1768, Haydn and the Esterhazy orchestra moved to Eszterhaza, a beautiful new palace built by
Prince Nicholas. During this time, Haydn did not maintain his usual volume of symphony production,
as he composed less than ten between 1766 and 1770. However, Haydn experienced a renewed
interest in writing string quartets. He composed three

Rhetorical Analysis Of The Mercedes Ad Of The Red Sl...
What is it about an advertisement that makes people want to purchase that item? Could it be the idea
of showing it off, personal attraction, or utilizing it in everyday life? The advertisement I chose to
analyze does absolutely stunning in doing all three and more. The Mercedes ad of the red SL class car
gives off a romantic look due to the color of the car and the caption on the left; and a rough and
powerful look at the same time from the rigid mountainous background. The images looks extremely
realistic, like every detail of it was picked up by a high tech camera. The main focus of the image is
the front of the car closest to the foreground, with it going out towards the other parts making it one
elegant picture. Ethos, Pathos, and logos play a major role in this ad to appeal to the audiences senses
and attract the viewers the ad is aimed towards. This ad does marvelous in using rhetorical techniques
to appeal to the viewer and persuade them to purchase this car. My ad has a mountainous background
with a tint of blue in it, giving the impression of it taking place in the morning and the feeling of the
cool breeze right before the sun rises. The sun can be seen beginning to rise on the right side slightly
above the car; with the full capacity of the suns light being obscured by the mountain in front of it. A
body of water can be seen cutting through the mountains almost behind the front of the car, adding to
the images beauty. There is a Mercedes symbol on the top right

What Is The Difference Between Viking And Lang
Theis blurring of the lines between the underworld and the orderly world is also highlighted in the
editing. At one point in the film there are two meetings going on at the same time, one between
members of organized crime and one between the police. The actions that occur in each meeting are
meant to parallel each other, and Lang triesis trying to confuse the audience on who the police are and
who the criminals are. A series of match and cross cuts are used to create this effect. Not only do the
actions of the two meetings match, such as a police man standing up and then a cut to a criminal
standing up, but the dialogue matches up as well. The dialogue is actually what drives the match and
cross cuts, as conversations start in the police meeting and then end in the criminal meeting and vice
versa. Both the criminals and the police have the exact same goal, and Lang wants the audience to
question whether a separation really exists between the two camps. The entire film can be seen as an
intense power struggle between Beckert s psychopathic state and his normal state;, Beckert and
society;, and the police and the underworld. To establish these power dynamics Lang and his
cinematographer use various different camera angles and shots. In the opening scene with the children
playing the dark circle game, a high crane shot is used to establish the child murderer s control over
the children and society (Appendix C). This power continues to be established in the scene with Elsie

Views on the Vietnam War Expressed in the Films The Ugly...
Film during much of the Vietnam War and the years after usually attempted to push a strong agenda.
Not until later did movies become less biased, especially when talking about Vietnam. The Ugly
American, directed by George Englund, and The Green Berets, directed by John Wayne, are no
exceptions. The Green Berets propose a strong support for the war while The Ugly American tended
to blame the United States for being in an unnecessary war. Nevertheless, while both movies differ
strongly in their views, both tend to convey the horrors of war. The Green Berets was a movie that
continuously encouraged its audience to prolong the Vietnam War. Just as the movie begins, a scene

Moreover, the war persuades both the Vietnamese and Americans that fighting has no productivity.
The local Vietnamese explain they do not want Freedom Road because it will bring the Cold War to
Vietnam (Ugly American, The). Having both perspectives allowed the director to influence his
viewers using two concepts. Even Deong rallies against the Americans as the movie continues toward
its inevitable conclusion. He willingly allows the communist protesters to attack MacWhite to try to
stall America s imperialist efforts (Ugly American, The). It appears that nearly every person tried to
condemn the Vietnam War as a burden on everyone. The Ugly American differs from The Green
Berets because it criticizes the Vietnam War rather than sympathizing with it. Although there are many
disparities between the two movies, both agree that war, whether Vietnamese or not, is never
pleasurable. For instance, The Green Berets broke from its morals near the end of the movie. Notably,
Sergeant Petersen dies despite the fact that an observer might think the war then too costly to continue
(Green Berets, The). Even though the creators and producers of The Green Berets wanted their
audience to believe war was just, they also agreed it was costly. Deong s death has a very similar
perspective and again contradicts itself. With Deong s death a viewer may imagine that the hero they
came to know died needlessly (Ugly American, The). Evidently, the makers of

How Did The Greeks Influence Today s Civilization
Greece had a big part in Europe s civilization. The Minoans were the first civilization to live in
Europe. The Minoans lived on a island called Crete, which is part of Greece now. According to a
legend, there was a man named Aegeus and he had thought that his son, Theasus, had just been eaten
by the Minotaur, the Minotaur was half bull and half human, but he had not. Aegeus jumped off the
edge of a cliff and died in an ocean which is now called the Agean Sea. The Greeks gave lots more

they Minoans were but, they couldn t beat them. Around 1100 BC the Greeks entered a stage called

Greece entered the Classical age, which is usually seen as the golden era of ancient Greece ( Ancient

As of March 1, 2016, the BLM estimated a total amount of 67,027 wild horses and burros in all of the
western states. The BLM has recommended that the maximum population that the land can sustain is
26,715 (Gorey and Lutterman 1). The BLM must find ways to control the population because of the
crowding. According to Wild Horse Education Population control is a phrase used to describe the
methods that are utilized by the BLM to achieve what they term as Appropriate Management Level, or
AML ( Population Control 1). Appropriate management level is the amount of horses and burros that
can thrive in balance with other public land resources and uses. If left uncontrolled, Mother Nature
would regulate the population by disease, dehydration, and starvation. The population of the horses
would increase causing food to become scarce and the horses to starve. Not controlling the population
would be inhumane. The horses would suffer from starvation, causing a slow death. Private ranchers
obtain permits for their cattle to graze on BLM land which further affects the problem of scarcity of
food and water for all animals. The wild horse and burro population should be controlled using
humane methods

Slavery And The American Revolution
Slavery has been a key issue in American history since the first settlers settled here in 1607. Historians
such as Vincent J Rosivach writes that when the issue of slavery is mentioned the first thing people
think about is the slavery model of the deep south, the cotton kingdom. Rosivach writes that there
were many different slave models such as the northern American colonies and 4th century Athens.
Rosivach and many other historians agree that the way slavery was done in the north was totally
different from the south. Slaves have had an important role particularly in the northern American
colonies helping them early establish themselves first as a region then as a country. Historians have
argued that America was built on the backs of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the north owners usually owned only one or two slaves. Historians have figured that these owners
could have done without them if necessary. Owning slaves was less a commitment than a response to
labor needs. That is why we see blacks working in their owners shops. Historians like Shane white
argue that slaves now had an advantage over slaves in any other area, because these slaves were
picking up trades that could help in their future journey. Rosivach on page 552 talks about how slaves
helped the economy. White talked about the trades they picked up and now Rosivach expands on that.
Since most slave owners only owned a few slaves the owner s main priority was to make ends meet
for his family. Rosivach talks about how slaves could run the owner s shops if the owners had to leave
for a short period of time. Slaves also helped speed up production. With two people working it helped
the owner make more money. They were not running large scaled operations but simple community
ran business. Rosivach also states that even if someone did not own a slave in the north they could
produce the same amount of production as a slave and his owner. Rosivach is making the claim that
slaves are expendable and not a dire need as they were in the south. Rosivach and White both talk
about the type of work slaves did in the north. Along with that work came the person they worked for.

FedEx follows the The Purple Promise in which the company focusses on customer satisfaction and

Roman Republic
Rome: Transition from Republic to Empire
Paul A. Bishop
Introduction________________________________________________
Since its collapse, historians have attempted to explain the struggle for power and control over both
the Roman Republic and the Roman Empire that followed. To explain the complexities of the Roman
Republic, the Empire, and their political complexities can be a daunting task. For nearly ten centuries
Rome would rule most of the known world before the fall of the Western Empire (Byzantine) in 476
C.E. Before that fall occurred, a fundamental change would take place that would transform the
original Republic into the Roman Empire. Many factors would be directly and indirectly responsible
for this transition. These would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By that time, the Republic had extended its control throughout the Mediterranean Sea and as far as
Britain. That control would operate under an informal unwritten constitution, and establish the use of
Latin as its official language, while codifying rights, responsibilities, and status under a written law.
Beginning with the Law of the Twelve Tables, Roman jurisprudence would develop over the next one
thousand years into a legal system that would eventually become the early basis for law in continental
Europe. Even English and North American common law owes more than a passing debt to the
Romans. Case law and precedents find their roots in a Latin legal term, stare decisis, meaning to stand
by things decided . The development of a written law was seen as a method of eliminating
indiscriminant application of the law by magistrates and officials upon the lower plebeian class.
The Assemblies
The establishment of a written law set the foundation for a republican government whereby

Hitchcock s Film Adaptation Of The 39 Steps
The 39 Steps is a theatrical production based on John Buchan s 1915 novel and Alfred Hitchcock s
1935 film. Unlike the original source material, the production was designed for four actors to play
over a hundred characters in total. Overall, it was an incredibly successful performance which did not
fail to bring in a good story and laughs throughout.
The story is set in Britain during the 1930s and the stage production shows points to this in a few
ways. The most noticeable hints I found towards the time period was the costumes, which is what
tends to draw my eye a lot. Alfred Hitchcock s film adaptation of The 39 Steps was very much in the
film noir style. Black and white colour scheme, somewhat melodramatic acting, the whole lot. While
the theatre production is not completely in this style, it still makes some allusions towards Hitchcock s
film. For example, the acting is still very hammy and overdramatic (though not in a bad way by any
means) and the main protagonist does monologue about himself.
The production has only four actors to play all the characters, around ... Show more content on

She only played three characters (Annabella Schmidt, Pamela and Margaret) and not all of them were
on stage for that long. Her first role was killed off rather quickly, the next appeared briefly but then
returned during the second act, and the third only progress to a certain point before leaving. While
these three characters were distinct, made so by their different costumes and accents, it actually wasn t
that easy. When Pamela returned later in the play, it took me a good while to clue in that we had seen
her before. There was nothing instantly grabbing about that one role that made me instantly recognise
her so I thought it was simply a new character. Unlike Annabella or Margaret, Pamela didn t have a
noticeable German or Scottish accent and wasn t as melodramatic in her actions. In fact, Pamela had
so little impact on me that I completely forgot her

The Role Of Nurturing In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
When Victor creates the being, he fails to imagine the kind of support and nurturing it will need. Since
he didn t give the being any sort of instruction, it becomes a monster. When Victor was growing up,
his father wasn t giving him the amount of nurturing a child growing up would need. Victor was an
only child, but his family always wanted a daughter more. When they got a daughter Victor felt like he
needed to protect this girl. Even though Victor was slightly nurtured as a kid, when he was grown up
his father wasn t very good at giving him the amount of nurturing needed to help Victor develop. My
father made no reproach in his letters, and only took notice of my silence by enquiring into my
occupations more particularly than before (Shelley, 34). Victor didn t ... Show more content on

While Victor was creating the being, he never knew what good nurturing looked like and never
imagined how to nurture. After Victor created the monster, he was scared of what he created and how
he didn t know how to nurture this creature. I took refuge in the courtyard ... fearing each sound as if it
were to announce the approach of the demoniacal corpse to which I had so miserably given life
(Shelley, 36). He didn t refer to the being as something he created or even in a caring or nurturing way.
Victor thought of the being as a demon like thing, not even a life thing, but a dead thing. As soon as
Victor made a thing he had imagined was going to be a great being, something he could nurture and
love. Instead of what he had already imagined, he didn t imagine the kind of nurturing what he
actually created would need. Without the imagination that someone would need in order to create a

Drunk driving is a major risk to yourself, to passengers and occupants sharing the road with you.
Innocent bystanders could also suffer. Adding the risk of humans, there is also the damage to the

serious crime in every state. It wrong, irresponsible and destroys many lives. Many temptations are
faced in college culture and one of them is underage drinking and driving. Underage drinking and
driving has essentially become an epidemic, rapidly developing among today s youth.(Kaplan) Some
people don t see underage drinking as an issue, when in fact it is a huge issue that every teenager will

Asylum Seekers
This film was shown to me by Sharleen Davids, whom as a Primary School teacher at Darlington
Primary, it was made compulsory viewing. By means of assisting with teachers understanding of the
circumstances of an asylum seeker. In essence, this film was beneficial; especially as a great
proportion of the students at her primary school are refugees. Respectively, the film was produced by
refugees advocate Jessie Taylor. Taylor travelled to Indonesia, where she met with asylum seekers. A
collection of the stories she heard were shaped into a documentary named, Between the Devil and the

Taylor describes them as a deeply flawed organisation that does a very difficult job...an organisation

determined on their degree and the amount of experience that the individual knows. The way an x ray

time between the time periods could be weekly, every other week, or monthly. This all depends on the
employers view of the work place.
Although there have been signs of leukemia, there is still uncertainty if that long hours of radiation

The Cult Of True Womanhood Summary
In The Cult of True Womanhood by: Barbara Walters, she explains how women of the reform era were
expected to submit totally to their husbands and societal pressures to gain a high level of respect while
women that fell short of nearly unattainable standards were publicly ostracized. During this period in
America women were finally being recognized as important members of society, and on a more
personal level men were recognizing that women had emotional qualities that also held value. Women
were seen as more naturally pure and moral in this era. On top of moral obligations the mother of a
family had many worldly responsibilities. Women were expected to serve as nurse to the family, a
sexual and moral companion to the husband, and a spiritual figure within the community. On top of
their worldly duties women were also expected to be dainty, but not high maintenance, and
submissive, but not mindless. The reading of books was encouraged for maintaining a sharp mind, but
not books that were highly educated either, so the Bible became a constant source of knowledge and
moral guidance. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From birth until marriage women were taught to retain their virginity because a woman s physical
form was all she truly owned. After a women had given this worldly possession away they had no
leverage and was expected to care of children and maintain the household. Loss of virginity before
marriage or a lack of affection for her children were grave accusations on a woman s moral character.
A woman that enjoyed sex before marriage was seen as disgraced in the eyes of God and the
community. Sensationalized accounts of disgraced women appeared in magazines and stories to
remind future mothers of the importance of keeping their gift. Women had to personify purity and
patience, while functioning as the head of the house, all while being completely overruled by the
wishes of their

The Monkeys Paw Character Analysis
Zikera Newsome
6th period
03/07/17 The Monkeys Paw The Monkeys Paw by W.W Jacobs. This novel is taking place inside and
around the White family home, called Laburnum Villa. The novel is probably set around the time it
were to be published; in 1902.The author manipulate time by going slow. The setting changes but it
does not affect how the characters are in the novel. As the story progresses, the house becomes
progressively darker and spookier. He uses the horror genre to talk about some very serious issues.
Sgt. Major Morris tells the Whites that the old fakir who put the spell on the paw said, Fate rules
people s lives ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sgt. Maj. Morris wanted to make three wishes because only three men could use it and the fakir was
the man who put a spell on the paw but it also is a curse. The character I relate to the most is Mr.
White because he is trying to protect the paw and people from it. Inside of the story is Man vs. Man
because Mr. White is making a decision to make a wish or let three other men make the wishes their
selves. Internal because man vs. man is inside decision he is having with himself. The first thing that
happened in the story that changed it was that Mr. White gave the paw away for a trifle, second thing
was that Mr. White came in with two hundred pound of British money, and the third thing was a man
getting hurt in the second scene. A mystery is the outcome of the man disappearing without anyone
knowing what happened. The monkeys paw is the central idea of the story and everything is around
that title from page 26 it says, It had a spell put on it by an old Fakir, said the Sergeant Major, a very
holy man. He wanted to show that fate ruled people s lives, and that those who interfered with it did so
to their sorrow. He put a spell on it so that three separate men could each have three wishes from it.

Strategic Profile Of The Boeing Corporation
Strategic Profile
The Boeing Airplane Company was established in 1916 by William Boeing in the city of Seattle,
Washington. Boeing has become one of the world s biggest manufacturers when it comes to military
and commercial planes and parts. There are two major corporations within the aircraft industry that are
big competitors and share a great rivalry with each other and they are the Boeing and Airbus

finding potential contracts for their airplane and also creating different and unique aircraft models for
their targeted customers.
There are five divisional units in which Boeing coordinate their products and services that they offer
to their customers, which are Boeing Commercial Airplanes, Boeing Defense Space and Security,
Boeing Military Aircraft, Boeing Global Services and Support and Boeing Capital Corporation. (ASU

Ebola Virus Disease Epidemic Summary
The airline restrictions harmed West Africa s already fragile government by hampering the flow of aid
and trade. The Analysis of the West African Ebola Virus Disease Epidemic shines a light on the need
for reform in the Global Health System by emphasizing the failures of the government officials and
organizations. Unity opens many opportunities for a stronger government as Friedman and Gostin
emphasized in their article. Friedman and Gostin argue that the government failed to unity by saying
states imposed travel restrictions and quarantines contrary to the demands of WHO and the United
Nations (UN), hindering the response of aid and travel, but critics would argue that every state has
their own security interest that are seen as safety ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unity between all agencies and governments will allow for everyone s voice to be heard. Group
compromise and discussion is possible when all systems are working together for a common goal;
such as, overcoming an epidemic. Forming a strong framework requires accountable leaders to work
constructively with other organizations as equal partners. When organizations unite, leaders are held
responsible for their global practices, motivating action rather than hesitation. Accountable leaders are
essential in a strong government because they take action and motivate change. When a government
has weak leaders, actions are postponed and hesitation causes delays in funding, education, and
volunteers. Civil groups, along with other non governmental organizations, need their opinions heard.
Uniting together all forces, not only creates a stronger, trusting bond between countries, but also
creates an unstoppable fighting force against epidemics. In the article, Gostin and Friedman
acknowledged the contributions a non governmental agency, Médecins Sans Frontiéres, made to help
control the raging epidemic. A representative of Médecins Sans Frontiéres said without accountable
leaders there is no one to take responsibility which is what he claims to be a major issue in the Ebola
crisis (1904). Other government agencies; such as, Human Resources and the United

With that said society must think about the millions who played these games every day. Why are there
not more crimes like this if video games have something to do with violence? Amanda Schaffer said
that pathological acts of course have multiple complex causes and are hard to predict. About.com
states that one of the most arguable and a violent game in history is the Grand Theft Auto series. This
may be one of the best games to discuss when you are fighting your case on the violence of video
games. The series, which started back in 1997, focuses on many different protagonists who attempt to
rise through the ranks of the criminal underworld, although their motives for doing so vary in each

  • 2. Raisin In The Sun Movie Vs Play Every word in a literary composition adds more sense, if it is presented in a meaningful way. We can see various differences between the presentation of Hansberry s play in 1961 and 2008 Act 1 Scene 1, though they are trying to convey the same message. Both of the scenes are trying to show the dream of a middle class man, and their day to day circumstances while chasing their dream. The main notion of the play was to portray about the struggle of African American in the society ruled by white people. The play was written by African American woman in 1957 and for the first time it was filmed in 1961. At that time the society was dominated by white people. Though the play wanted to show the idea of discrimination among white and black people, the movie released in 1961 could not perfectly express its idea of racism. While in the newer version of movie released in 2008, it s more open and obvious about the discrimination. The newer version of the movie has added more specifics about the racial discrimination because the society now has become more understanding and open regarding racial issues. That shows the characteristic of a modern housewife. Most of the things and ideas they want to convey are similar in both versions but the performance of the artist, cinematography, setting and plot of the movie adds more difference which can be seen in both the ... The violence begins when a Civil War erupts in the country of Sierra Leone. Ishmael Beah is forced to be a child soldier by refugees who take over his village. They come into his home town and kill many of the men, women and children who lived there. This is a very detrimental time during Ishmael s life because he is still a very young boy experiencing this. The violence that the rebels exhibit, successfully terrify the people of these villages. This fear forces young boys into physical and mental slavery. They become child soldiers under the authority of the rebels of RUF. The violence that the RUF rebels exhibited and instilled into the villagers was very effective. To terrify someone to the point where their own shadow scares them, means you have mental control over them. The rebels of RUF effectively used violence to instill fear and obedience into the villagers of Sierra Leone. People of the village even turn on Ishmael and his friends throughout the book. Many of the villagers don #39;t trust them and are afraid because they stayed together in a group walking through villages. Also, the violence intentionally created distrust amongst families. Boys turned their backs on their own fathers for the RUF. Violence was also created through the RUF rebels forcing the child soldiers to smoke brown brown . This drug was mixed with marijuana, cocaine and gunpowder. They used to this to control them and to have a substance that #39;ll make them do whatever they wanted them to. • 4. Summary of The Book of Habakkuk Essay It is believed that the book of Habakkuk was written to Judah around the year 606 B.C., as Nineveh no longer exists, so it has to have been written some time after Nahum. There is nothing known about this prophet outside of this book, and it is believed that Habakkuk wrote the book himself, but it is uncertain. His name means embraced or could even be the name of an Assyrian flower. Also known as the prophet of the watchtower, he was one of the last prophets to write before the Babylonian captivity. Habakkuk was not written to prophecy to Judah or Israel about their destruction, but was written as if to God, with Habakkuk asking Him questions. Among the complaints and questions that Habakkuk brings to God, the most prevalent is this: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Woe to him who covets evil gain for his house...for the stone will cry out from the wall, and the beam from the timbers will answer it . Covetousness is a major problem for most men, back in that time as well as today, but seeking to gain things through evil and wicked methods is even worse. The Chaldeans seek to expand their kingdom through evil methods and wicked actions, and yet the things that they have gained are not to last. Eventually their kingdom will crumble, and they will cease to be a mighty nation. Woe to him who builds a town with bloodshed...for the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of The Lord, as the waters cover the sea. The saying He who lives by the sword, will die by the sword. comes to mind right now as we see that because the Chaldeans build themselves up with bloodshed and murder, the whole world will witness the glory of The Lord, and will see His power brought against them. They are an unnecessarily bloody nation, and because of this, I guess you could say they they will soon become an even more bloody nation as they face the wrath of God. His fellows trickle in, some in groups, others one or two at a time. Some of them rush to have Harkinian s ear before the rest, so they might curry favor for one scheme or against some threat, real or imagined. Ganondorf found, quite some time ago in fact, that he simply did not care enough to be bothered. He had enemies, no doubt, but none of them were ever quite bold enough to plot against him. And there was nothing under the sun that Harkinian could give him, or that he would ever stoop low enough to ask for. Harkinian never begins until they are all present and accounted for. So they must wait, tense and long minutes that tick on like lifetimes. When Ganondorf enters, the last of a long train of Hylian nobles, it is no grand affair. The doors swing open and clatter against the walls and he stands in the threshold, to ensure he is seen. He is always dressed simply, in his general s regalia, the Triforce stamped in yellow the bright red cape on his shoulders. Still, a hush quiets the room and all of them turn to look at him. Are Humans Inherently Evil In Lord Of The Flies Statement of intent: I am going to write a persuasive essay about how humans are born evil and are conditioned by society to act civilised, using Lord of the Flies and Goldings idea that humans are inherently evil, as well as current and historical events to expand on these ideas. The greatest trick the devil pulled was convincing the world that there is only one of him David Wong. The critically acclaimed novel Lord of the Flies written by Nobel Prize winning author William Golding explores the idea that humans are inherently evil, among other ideas such as the loss of innocence, civilisation versus savagery and much more. Events including the Holocaust, concentration camps, atomic bombings and many more were the cause of over 80,000,000 deaths, which at the time was about 3% of the world s population. The acts of Hitler and the Nazi party in the war were acts of pure evil. Hitler can be directly compared to Jack from Lord of the Flies as Jack s leadership was based purely on striking fear into others. He made people believe that if they didn t join him he would hunt and kill them. Hitler s leadership also followed some of this vicious dictating. Another example of Golding s idea that humans are inherently evil was the murder of James Patrick Bulger. James who was murdered on the 12th of February 1993 at the age of two. He was abducted, tortured and murdered by two ten year old boys, Robert Thompson and Jon Venables. It is almost unimportant in the landscape of popular Spanish celebrations. It was virtually unknown outside of the small village where it is held until somehow it caught the eye of some major media outlet. Another reason why some people do not participate is because they do not like tomato to be thrown at. They replied that it is messy and people get hurt if they slip over. In this special celebration, there is no political or religion importance to La Tomatina. In 1980, the organization of the festival became the responsibility of the town. Soon this celebration became internationally considerable and highly broadcasted by the use of international media. In the beginning, it was forbidden in the early 1950 s but people spoke and the celebration was allowed with more contestants and more frenetic feelings. Will Langas s Essay Human Existence Is In Peril Will Langas The first speaker I agree with is Whitney Harris, whose essay, Human Existence Is In Peril, touched on many ideals concerning God, the human condition, and our ultimate destiny. The first point he made that I agreed with was that one can be balanced between their faith and science and religious beliefs. Although he does not say much about the role of science in religion, he personally found a way to incorporate both ways of life into his own set of beliefs. This is shown when he says, We do not know where the first manifestation of that life the tiniest amoeba came from. To ignite the spark of life required the hand of God (Harris). Personally, I am a very strong believer in science, and I have a hard time defying logic in order to follow my own faith. As of now, humans have repeatedly shown throughout history that they are unable to stop fighting. Very rarely have humans been able to successfully put aside their contrasting opinions to solve a problem together. Humans have been around for hundreds of thousands of years, yet we are still unable to put aside our differences and strive for a common goal. What about the last time you stood in a bath, holding your dead grandmother, naked as moths came out of her mouth? In the short story The Moths , by Helena Maria Viramontes, a young Latina misfit granddaughter matures the moment her grandmother dies. Compared to her relationship with her parents and her siblings, the bond she carried with her Abuelita was special. She found comfort with her after receiving several whippings, broken her arm, puberty and even her first lie. • 18. Electrical Hazards And Safety By Kevin Burke Electrical Hazards and Safety Kevin Burke 1. INTRODUCTION Everywhere nowadays there is electricity and devices that rely on electricity. Society is driven by the need for energy and electricity generating plants now consume two fifths of U.S. energy from all sources, including about 90% of America s coal and nearly 30% of its natural gas (http://needtoknow.nas.edu/energy/energy sources/electricity/). The world today would not be nearly as advanced had it not been for the increased use of electricity. Electricity has so many uses they are seemingly innumerable, from use in air conditioners to cool people down. To making sure that individuals can see in everyday life with the use of lighting, the list could go on forever. However with this massive increase in electricity use there are also very drastic safety precautions that must be followed to ensure safe use of electrical products. Safety is a huge part of using electricity because having even a low voltage travel through the human body can kill someone. From a very young age it is instilled that electricity is not something to play with and that adults should make sure an activity is safe. Safety is not only important for humans but also for the infrastructure of the electrical components. People should ensure that they use surge protector and all of their wires are safe and not stripped. This will guarantee safety for the products in their homes. It is crucial that anything that has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. On Being Anointed and the Great Awakening Essay Why do we need another Great awakening? When I think of an Awakening, even after our class, my mind immediately goes to images of eighteenth century revivalists like Jonathan Edwards, George Whitfield, Jereena Lee and a large constellation of other preaching giants of yesteryear. These men and women created a legacy of spiritual fervor which has earned them a place in the annals of American religious history. Their effectiveness as preachers of the word and proclaimers of truth permeated a nation s consciousness and snatched the nation from spiritual decline. Several questions arise as I think of the Awakenings of years past. My first question is whether our nation is as spiritually receptive of an Awakening as it was two hundred years ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Perhaps that is what we need a contemporary awakening to do. In the face of drone strikes, unending poverty, mass incarceration, and myriad social issues with spiritual ramifications, an Awakening is what is needed to turn this nation, its culture and its people around. I think there needs to be a turning to a moral center; be it God (thinking out of my Christian context), or to a common place of civility and mutual understanding. The church has a unique role to play in bringing renewal and restoration to the brokenness of the world. I think that the mission the broken, crucified, despised Jesus was and is healing brokenness. Jesus Christ was anointed to do the work of restoring a sick and sad nation. I, therefore, hold as my point of departure that in Jesus Christ we are anointed to preach in a way that will awaken the nation to wholeness and to the reality of God s reign on Earth. In light of my theme, this paper hopes to accomplish three goals. My first goal is to reflect on the calling forth of bold, brave, and anointed preachers in James A. Forbes book The Holy Spirit and Preaching. Second, I will explore the preaching ministry of Howard Washington Thurman who, I think, exemplifies what it means to operate in the anointing of Christ. Finally, I will take these considerations about the Holy Spirit and Howard Thurman, and reflect on my own preaching ministry, which nears eleven ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 24. The Daoist Outlook On Life The Daoist Outlook On Life The Daodejing by Laozi is an eastern philosophical piece of literature; in the Daodejing, the teachings of Daoism are taught. Daoism is a system of philosophical, ethical, and religious Chinese teachings and practices that focus on living in harmony with the Dao and ones self. The word Daodejing can be divided into three separate words; Dao, De, and Jing, which all have different meanings. The Dao means way or path as the Dao helps guide the individual. The De means virtue , personal character, or inner strength , which focuses on self realization, inner peace, and balance; while the Jing means rules or instructions . Together, these three words can be translated to mean Classic of the Way and Virtue or The Book of the Way and its Virtue . The practice of Daoism and reading the Daodejing teaches individuals to flow with life while keeping a balance in all aspects of the their daily life. Daoism does not make a distinction between metaphysics, epistemology, or other ways of thinking. It also does not make a distinction between philosophy and religion. Instead, both philosophy and religion are thought of as one in the Daodejing. For this reason, Daoism is an exemplary type of philosophy for those who want to focus on their own self realization and development while keeping in touch with those around them and nature. At one point in the film there are two meetings going on at the same time, one between members of organized crime and one between the police. The actions that occur in each meeting are meant to parallel each other, and Lang triesis trying to confuse the audience on who the police are and who the criminals are. A series of match and cross cuts are used to create this effect. Not only do the actions of the two meetings match, such as a police man standing up and then a cut to a criminal standing up, but the dialogue matches up as well. The dialogue is actually what drives the match and cross cuts, as conversations start in the police meeting and then end in the criminal meeting and vice versa. Both the criminals and the police have the exact same goal, and Lang wants the audience to question whether a separation really exists between the two camps. The entire film can be seen as an intense power struggle between Beckert s psychopathic state and his normal state;, Beckert and society;, and the police and the underworld. To establish these power dynamics Lang and his cinematographer use various different camera angles and shots. After acquiring a share in Arkansas Aviation Sales, Fred started his package delivery business, which turned profitable by 1975 and saw a rapid growth to own 43% of the market by the early 1990s. • 39. Roman Republic Rome: Transition from Republic to Empire Paul A. Bishop Introduction________________________________________________ Since its collapse, historians have attempted to explain the struggle for power and control over both the Roman Republic and the Roman Empire that followed. To explain the complexities of the Roman Republic, the Empire, and their political complexities can be a daunting task. For nearly ten centuries Rome would rule most of the known world before the fall of the Western Empire (Byzantine) in 476 C.E. Before that fall occurred, a fundamental change would take place that would transform the original Republic into the Roman Empire. Many factors would be directly and indirectly responsible for this transition. These would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By that time, the Republic had extended its control throughout the Mediterranean Sea and as far as Britain. That control would operate under an informal unwritten constitution, and establish the use of Latin as its official language, while codifying rights, responsibilities, and status under a written law. Beginning with the Law of the Twelve Tables, Roman jurisprudence would develop over the next one thousand years into a legal system that would eventually become the early basis for law in continental Europe. Even English and North American common law owes more than a passing debt to the Romans. Case law and precedents find their roots in a Latin legal term, stare decisis, meaning to stand by things decided . The development of a written law was seen as a method of eliminating indiscriminant application of the law by magistrates and officials upon the lower plebeian class. The Assemblies The establishment of a written law set the foundation for a republican government whereby responsibilities and duties would be divided among various representative assemblies. Their members would in turn cast votes concerning the action to be taken in regard to the issues placed before them. Membership in these early assemblies would be limited by such things as class, income, family ties, and affiliations. The assemblies had various and specific functions within the Roman republican ... • 40. Hitchcock s Film Adaptation Of The 39 Steps The 39 Steps is a theatrical production based on John Buchan s 1915 novel and Alfred Hitchcock s 1935 film. Unlike the original source material, the production was designed for four actors to play over a hundred characters in total. Overall, it was an incredibly successful performance which did not fail to bring in a good story and laughs throughout. The story is set in Britain during the 1930s and the stage production shows points to this in a few ways. The most noticeable hints I found towards the time period was the costumes, which is what tends to draw my eye a lot. Alfred Hitchcock s film adaptation of The 39 Steps was very much in the film noir style. Black and white colour scheme, somewhat melodramatic acting, the whole lot. While the theatre production is not completely in this style, it still makes some allusions towards Hitchcock s film. For example, the acting is still very hammy and overdramatic (though not in a bad way by any means) and the main protagonist does monologue about himself. The production has only four actors to play all the characters, around ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Cult Of True Womanhood Summary In The Cult of True Womanhood by: Barbara Walters, she explains how women of the reform era were expected to submit totally to their husbands and societal pressures to gain a high level of respect while women that fell short of nearly unattainable standards were publicly ostracized. During this period in America women were finally being recognized as important members of society, and on a more personal level men were recognizing that women had emotional qualities that also held value. Women were seen as more naturally pure and moral in this era. On top of moral obligations the mother of a family had many worldly responsibilities. Women were expected to serve as nurse to the family, a sexual and moral companion to the husband, and a spiritual figure within the community. On top of their worldly duties women were also expected to be dainty, but not high maintenance, and submissive, but not mindless. The reading of books was encouraged for maintaining a sharp mind, but not books that were highly educated either, so the Bible became a constant source of knowledge and moral guidance. ...
