Importance Of The Colosseum
The functions religious or otherwise, of the colosseum were irrelevant to the ultimate design of the
architecture.
Once the colosseum had been built it seems to have become the model for many, if not most, of those
that followed (Hopkins and Beard 2005, 24). The Colosseum stands proudly upon the villainous
Emperor Nero s once grand Valley of the Golden House, projecting the munificence of Imperial
Roman Architecture of the Flavian period. Its ultimate design could be said to be formed through
purpose or function. However, this does not do justice to the importance of architecture within Roman
society (Thornton and Thornton in Lyes 1999, 2). The functions whether it be religious or otherwise,
of the Colosseum were irrelevant to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The diameter of the entire Colosseum was thus reduced and convention disregarded to take into
consideration this architectural feature. Looking in detail at the classical orders themselves which
made up the levels of the façade and the 80 grand entrances of the Colosseum it would appear to not
be revolutionary. However, if you engage with the architecture closer it reveals further Roman
architectural ingenuity and the importance of the structures appearance.
Traditionally Roman buildings saw the use of the classical Greek Doric order on ground levels
(without bases) with the more decorative orders of Ionic and Corinthian stacked above this (Lyes
1999, 6). However, in the Colosseum these orders were stacked and used in a way which had no
previous precedent in Roman architecture (Lyes 1999, 6). The design sees the orders dramatically
reduced, which has the columns that are engaged within the structure constructed with bases, and the
column shaft themselves missing the usual entasis of classic Greek orders, this all leads to a much
simplified capital. Between each stacked order there is a triple facia architrave, a relatively plain
designed freeze and cornice (Lyes 1999, 6). The use of the classical orders in this manner within the
design of the Colosseum, without precedent, was in fact not structural but a façade or veneer. This
allowed the

Methodology
The paper ascertained the impact of human capital disclosure on shareholders value using panel pool,
fixed and random models in Nigeria oil and gas companies from 2004 to 2016. The work uses
secondary source of data in an attempt to achieve the set objective of the study and to solve the
problem under study. The secondary data were obtained from the annual financial reports of selected
listed oil and gas companies as released by the Nigerian Stock Exchange over the period 2005 2014.

Executive Shirt Company Case Analysis

Q.1) Compute the following quantities for the current production process as well as for Mike s and Ike
s plans, assuming the plans are implemented as described in the case.
Solution:
Current batch processing
Sales for the Executive Shirt Company are constituted of only a few basic styles and colours. Hence
the company has a limited number of varieties to produce. So, it has large batches of each kind of shirt
(size and color).
It has only one cutting machine, which is computer controlled and can cut up to 60 layers of cloth at
the same time. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The cycle time / shirt = 30 / 60 = 0.5 min / shirt.
The work in process inventory = Total number of batches in all operations * Batch size
= (16 + 144 + 12 + 12 + 12) * 60
= 196 * 60 = 11760 shirts
Now we can apply Little s Law to calculate the throughput time which is equal to the manufacturing
lead time in this case.
By Little s Law,
Throughput time = Work in process / Throughput rate = Work in process * Cycle time
= 11760 * 0.5
= 5880 minutes
Since production goes on for 8 hrs per day, manufacturing lead time = 5880 / (8 * 60)
= 12.25 days
Total number of shirts produced per month is 16,000. The company works for 20 days a month.
So, the output per day = 16000 / 20 = 800 shirts.
In, 8 hours a day, the company can produce 60 * 8 * (1/0.5) = 960 shirts, which is the current
production capacity. But it needs to produce only 800 shirts.
So, the capacity utilization = (800 / 960) * 100 = 83.33%
The actual labor utilized = Number of shirts produced * Direct labor content
= 800 * 25.76
= 20608 minutes
The available labor for utilization = Total number of workers * Hours per day *

The Nature of Power Essay
In the book, Obasan, Joy Kogawa uses imagery to convey different symbolic meanings in Naomi s
life. Naomi goes through a journey in the novel to uncover the truth of her past. One of the many
literary elements that the novel possesses is animal imagery that emphasizes meaning and contributes
to the novel s theme. Several animals are mentioned throughout the novel to represent Naomi s
emotions and her journey. Kogawa utilizes the several instances of animal imagery in her novel,
Obasan, to reveal the nature of power, both physically and emotionally, and the victim of power
Naomi. Animals such as the chicks represent Naomi s helplessness and innocence as she lived in a
world without her mother or knowledge of her history. The animals that ... Show more content on

Instead of it being a dream, Naomi faces with the reality that she is now the beast being repressed by
her master, Old Man Gower. Besides the fact that Naomi is four years old during this incident or that
she could speak unlike the beast, the intimidation Old Man Gower has over her is strong enough to
keep her silent. Old Man Gower is an adult who is supposed to protect her but he uses his power
manipulate her.
Another way Old Man Gower controlled Naomi is through speech; not only did he explicitly tell her
to not inform her mother of what is happening, Naomi cannot tell her mother even if she wants to. Old
Man Gower creates the division between Naomi and her mother with this forbidden secret. As much
as Naomi wants to tell her mother, she knows that her cry for help will end badly. As wide as Naomi
wants her mouth to open, she, just as the chicken with its throat slit open, cannot speak a word. The
chicken that gets tortured by Sho later on in the novel, cannot run away or cry for help, Its beak is
open, but there is no sound (185). As Naomi watches the chicken suffer, she is watching herself being
tortured by Old Man Gower. Here, Kogawa reminds Naomi of her painful past and how she did not
stand up for herself, and still cannot stand up for the chicken. She watches and hopes for the torture to
be over as she asks the boys if the chicken is dead yet, and she is

The current database provides a basic inventory system. For the new application to be a success, there
are several items that need to be addressed with the current Kudler Database. For instance, Kudler
needs additional tables such as Reserved Inventory table. This table will be a transaction table that will
reserve the items by removing them from inventory and holding them in the reserved table until one of
the following conditions is met.
In addition, the primary keys that are preserved will need to be configured as required fields, and there
are several primary keys that can be replaced with Auto Number Identities. The Inventory table will
also need to be modified to indicate what quantities are on hand at each individual store. Under the
current database, there is no visible way to show which store has inventory. For example, one store
may have 35 boxes of Frog Legs, while there may be two other stores that are out of stock.
Normalizing the database will ultimately result in minimizing data redundancy and optimizing the
data structures by containing smaller, more flexible tables. Once the tables are normalized and data
integrity has been maximized, referential integrity will be addressed by establishing relationships
between data elements and their appropriate groupings. Upgrading to SQL Server is a more viable
alternative should Kudler Fine Foods require a larger database capable of

A Death That Revealed the World s Concealed View on Homosexuality The Laramie Project is a play
written by Moises Kaufman and the members of Tectonic Theater Project. The play is based on the
interviews of the citizens of Laramie about what s happening in Laramie and their responses to the
murder of Matthew. In addition to the various themes suggested by the play, the author wanted to
present the varying perspectives toward homosexuality in the Laramie community at the time of
Matthew s death. The author also wanted to explore how these perspectives may have changed as the
result of Matthew s death. Even though the citizens of Laramie persisted that hate is not a value they
practice, they still showed contrasting and puzzled views ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not all citizens of Laramie conveyed a negative view towards the LGBT community. Marge Murray,
together with some of the citizens, gave a notion of live and let live towards homosexuals. Marge
explains,
As far as the gay issue, I don t give a damn on one way or the other as long as they don t bother me.
And even if they did, I d just say no thank you. And that s the Attitude of most of the Laramie
population. They might poke one if they were in a bar situation, you know, they had been drinking,
they might actually smack one in the mouth, but they d just walk away. Most of em, they would just
say, I don t swing that way and whistle on about their business. Laramie is live and let live. (17)
Marge talked about how the citizens of Laramie practice a philosophy that life goes on. There are
times that they are bothered, and they exchange words and even physically hurt one another; but that s
it, they won t hold a grudge on one another. After such argument or fight, they ll just move on and live
another day. Marge pointed out that they practice the same view toward view about homosexuality;
they neither reject nor accept homosexual people.
There are also some citizens of Laramie that showed acceptance towards homosexuals. Father Roger
Schmit was one of them; he showed compassion and conveyed such resistance to violence

Manic Depression Research Paper
Manic Depression, or more commonly known as Bipolar disorder, is a disorder that causes the patient
affected to cycle through periods of depression and mania (NIMH n.d.). There are three general types
of Bipolar Disorder and then a fourth category for those who do not fall within any of the previous
categories. Bipolar I Disorder is defined by manic episodes that last at least 7 days and then a
depressive episode lasting at least two weeks. Symptoms may be severe enough to seek immediate

Typical treatments for bipolar disorder include: psychotherapy, mood stabilizers, antipsychotics, and
some Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (NIMH n.d.). In some cases, doctors will prescribe a
medication to combat the depression, a medication to combat the mania, and then medication to
combat any side effects caused by the other medications. Patients who exhibit a higher rate of
serotonin 5 HT binding prior to starting medication had a higher chance of recurring episodes, even
while taking medication, than did those who had a lower rate of serotonin 5 HT binding prior to
medication (Parsey 2013). Lithium was a drug that works within the nervous system to strengthen the
neural connections between cells to increase cell signaling therefore limiting the frequency and
intensity of manic depressive episodes. Lithium was anticipated to have success rates as high as 70%

in such a unique way that it clearly creates a picture in the reader s mind that makes the poems more
enjoyable. Also, this poem is very relatable specifically to women and is very has a very interesting
message, which is to fight for what you believe in no matter the consequences. While Rich s poem,
Planetarium , is worth reading, Rich s Aunt Jennifer s Tigers is also a poem worth reading. Another
poem that I believe is worth reading is Aunt Jennifer s Tigers by Adrienne Rich. In Rich s poem, Aunt
Jennifer s Tigers , the speaker describes Aunt Jennifer s tapestry about tigers, more specifically
drawing attention to the tiger s fearlessness, and how Aunt Jennifer wishes that she could be as strong
and fearless as the tigers. Also, Aunt Jennifer feels that due to her marriage to the Uncle, she prevented
herself from truly living her life and felt as if the marriage trapped her and stopped her from finding
true happiness. For example the quote, Aunt Jennifer s tigers prance across a screen,/Bright topaz
denizens of a world of green./They do not fear the men beneath the tree;/They pace in sleek chivalric
certainty. (Lines 1 4), helps to show fearless the tigers in her tapestry are, because they don t fear men.

idea of us going from innocence to doubt and back to innocence. The first idea that stuck with me is

Most of the characteristics that we take on, we later throw away, after discovering that they do not
work for us.
Many of the characteristics that we develop from this time remain with us for the rest of our lives. We
continue to do things like a family member does or did. Some of the complexes that we develop when
we are mere toddlers take us a lifetime to shed. It is during the whole stage of adolescence when we
begin to doubt. During this stage we begin to find out who we really are.
This process can only be achieved by sifting through the complexes we have developed, questioning
them, and changing what we don t like. We build on what fits who we are. Although this process slows
down, it still continues for the rest of our lives.Robert Johnson emphasizes that every human being has
got to break away from their parents at some point in time, especially their mother complex that lives
inside each and every one of us. It is the mother complex that effects us the most and that requires the
greatest struggle to recover from. When a child first tries to separate themselves from their mother, it
is all in vain. They are only trying to hide it from themselves and the rest of the world.
When some aspect of ourselves is being ignored in hopes of it disappearing, that aspect will act up like
a child looking for attention. It is only when we can fully accept and understand what

Classical, Biological And Psychological Theories
Early classical, biological and psychological theories have helped shape the burgeoning world of
criminology. Many of the ideas they held were unique, however, some key principles are still in use by
there modern counterparts. Classical psychological theories, focused on two main concepts;
personality and behaviorism. Personality theories helped improve cognitive sciences and behaviorism
called attention to social learning with a focus on behavioral conditioning. For example, Ivan Pavlov,
a prominent researcher, demonstrated that behavior can be changed by changing conditions associated
with the behavior. Personality theories and behavioral conditioning worked, in conjunction, to form
the classical psychological theory. (Schmalleger, p.82). This theory attempted to adapt the disease
model , which analysts hoped would identify the key elements that provoked mental and emotional
issues. (Schmalleger, p.82) Researchers in this field used terms like, mental disease, personality
disorder and psychopath to try and define individuals suffering from these mental aliments. However,
contemporary psychologists have chosen to modify their main focus. In other words, contemporary
analysts have one main study of focus for the people that suffer from mental ailments,
psychopathology. For example, current psychologists suggest that depression, schizophrenia,
alcoholism, ADHD, and psychopathy are all mental alignments associated with psychopathology;

Improving Student Performance Has Long Been An Issue...
Critical Assignment 1
Shelby A. Wood
Troy University
Article 1
Improving student performance has long been an issue contemplated and researched by educational
professionals and psychologists. Nowadays, an even greater burden has been placed on the shoulders
of teachers, whose livelihoods are being determined by how well their students perform on
standardized tests and other academic evaluations. With this increased amount of pressure, teachers
are desperate to find ways to improve student success. As Hidi and Harackiewicz point out, the aspect
of student learning that teachers have the most influence over is the amount of effort put in by students
(Hidi Harackiewicz, 2000). Research has shown that students motivation to meet these academic
demands begins steadily declining around the third grade (Anderman Maehr, 1987; Harter, 1981)
which means teachers must take proactive approaches in their classrooms to stimulate and maintain
the motivation of their students.
According to Hidi and Harackiewicz, student interest serves as a foundation for intrinsic motivation.
While teachers are not able to directly impact a student s individual interest (interest determined by
the student s predisposition or inclination towards a subject), their situational interest (interest
generated by exteneral forces) can be greatly impacted. Their findings showed that situational interest
can influence individual interest, and the two forms of interest, working in harmony,

Write An Informative Essay On Cosplay
Imagine your favorite television, video game, or story book character. What is it about that character
that you enjoy more than any other character you ve ever seen? Is it their personality, or maybe you
really connect with that character? Now imagine this: what if you could become that character, if you
really wanted to? This is the thought process that people go through when they decide to take the first
step onto the road of cosplay. All it takes is that one spark, and soon you ll have started a fire that will
burn passionately for times to come. Being able to make the outfit your chosen character wears,
holding their weapons or gadgets in your hands, and even acting like that character for a day can not
only be fun, but empowering as well. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With so many different ways to go about doing the same thing, it s important to find the way you re
comfortable with. Being an engineer, I decided to make a 3D prototype model of the sword Ike uses.
When it comes to making something fictional or incredibly difficult to replicate, following the
prototyping process can help you save time and money in the future. In the words of Mr. John Ouimet,
Prototyping is used any time you are going to make something, whether you are doing hardcore
engineering or . . . it takes on many different appearances. You can simulate many of the earlier steps
with just a computer. However, what does the word prototype actually mean? Prototyping is the
process of making an early sample of a product, built to test a concept or process, or it s a thing meant
to be replicated or learned from. However, it is not just limited to the engineering field; it can also be
applied to the arts and sciences. One form of prototyping one could use is called 3D printing, where
you have to design an object using a 3D modeling software and send it to a 3D printer to be printed.
Generally speaking, this is a relatively fast and cheap method of making a prototype, as the materials
are fairly cheap, and you can design what you want printed from the comfort of your own home. The
type of machine you use will affect the parts quality. With a higher end printer, you can print

Civilization In Brave New World Mustapha Mond

letting them be carefree and party on their soma vacations while the reservation lives a simple life. In
the story Mowgli s brother the theme civilization versus savagery is shown with how the wolves use
the rock council to make important decisions that affect all so everyone has a voice which is same as

In Batman year one this corruption is present as well throughout the story. Gotham city was basically
run on favors and funding from the rich to the politician. The police department wasn t any better the
police commissioner and most of the force was corrupted they were involved in illegal activities and
took bribes. Mustafamond made sure that no one could really think on their own and challenge his
rule which is wrong due to the fact he is deliberately keeping people in the dark and dumber just so he
isn t threatened by someone taking over. Mustapha Mond s anger gave place almost at once to mirth.
The idea of this creature solemnly lecturing him him about the social order was really too grotesque.
The man must have gone mad. I ought to give him a lesson, he said to himself; then threw back his
head and laughed aloud. For the moment, at any rate, the lesson would not be given. (11.36).
Mustapha Mond believed he was the smartest man every which is why he treated john with such
disrespect the way he acts is so un human he treats him as if he is a little kid not a grown man with the
way he talks to him. In Batman the police commissioner feels that he is untouchable when it comes to
being punished by the law. He creates his citizens in a very strange manner he creates them in tubes

Effective Leaders Are All Around Us
Encouraging the Hearts of others: A Guide to Becoming a More Effective Leader
Effective leaders are all around us. Effective leaders lead by example, walk the walk and talk the talk,
and are able to provide their team with the tools they need to be effective and successful. They support
their team in making decisions, but not make the decisions for them. Leaders can also provide
feedback and coaching when necessary. Most leaders rely on their team around them to reach the
goals they set out, both for the leader and for the team. Working with great leaders is a dream come
true for most people. Effective leaders make work better and more exciting. One of the most important
aspects of being a great leader is caring for those individuals that ... Show more content on

As Kouzes and Posner write, Codianni told us that encouraging the heart is the most important
leadership practice, because it s the most personal. Codianni believes leadership is all about people,
and if you re going to lead people you have to care about them (2003, p. 8). Caring about others
creates a powerful bond between the leader and the follower. As Gurenlian writes, This concept comes
from leadership literature, but was recognized as something relevant to demonstrate support for one
another (2014, p.10). This strong bond is what makes the leader effective. By showing the follower
that they are important and that they truly matter, the leader can extract better results from those
individuals that he or she is leading. After time, leaders produce more leaders. Leaders are not just
those who hold certain position, otherwise known as position power, but as Crossan, Mazutis, Seijts,
and Gandz write. However, our view of leadership is not focused on power or position, but rather on
the capacity of individuals to bring the best of themselves to support and enable others, ensure the
organizations they work with achieve at the highest level, and in doing so, contribute to society (2013,
p.391).
Clear Standards What truly makes those seven essentials to encouraging the heart truly great? First is
setting clear standards. Setting clear standards starts set the platform for action. Setting goals can

Volunteering Motivations And Their Well Being
An Integrative Research Paper On:
VOLUNTEERING MOTIVATIONS AND THEIR WELL BEING by Joseph A. Sagadraca

Dr. Jody Nicholson
July 31, 2015
ABSTRACT
With considerable amounts of psychological research focused on volunteers, this paper will attempt to
indicate and reiterate the motivations of volunteers in non profit organizations through an integrative
style of thinking. A lot of research is based on the well being of a person in regards to their motivation,
so this research paper will target the potentially important aspects a volunteer associates themselves
with, with respect of their motivations and their well being. No real research has been done, but
through an internship at the American Red Cross, this will assist the integrative style of writing to
produce helpful information for volunteers and their motivations.
INTRODUCTION For many years, millions of people have engaged in some kind of volunteering act
that has contributed to a number of unimaginable hours of work. Of these people though, 49% have
represented the adult population with a quarter of them having devoted their time to 5 or more hours
per week for volunteering (the motivations to volunteer). These figures for volunteering have been
inspiring for psychologists to seek and understand the instrumental factors that lead people to
volunteer. Several arguments have been stirred throughout the years, but importantly,

Summary Of The Movie The Bear Came Over The Mountain
Stories can be told in many different ways through different forms of media ultimately trying to
explain the same idea. The short story The Bear Came Over the Mountain and the movie Away from

different forms of media. In this essay evaluations will be made between two different forms of media

Islam Factors And Its Impact On The Arab Empire
1. The Arab Empire grew to be very large, and trade influenced a lot of its expansion. The Arab
Empire created many trade routes themselves while there was political unrest in Mesopotamia. The
Arabs began using camel caravans that were especially useful in the desert. The Arab Empire did a lot
of trading, which resulted in culture being brought along with the goods. The Arabs traded with China,
Egypt Western India, Southeast Asia, and Eastern Africa. The many goods coming in from all over the
world also brought people, beliefs and culture. All which influenced the Arab Empire greatly. A
trading center called a bazaar made it possible for individuals to sell there own crafts and goods. The
bazaar brought together people of lower classes as well that could trade with each other. Trading
influenced the culture of the Arab Empire while also helping expand it. 2. Once Islam became more
popular it spread through the African continent. During that time Muslims were one of the most
advanced people. Islam geometric designs were used in African architecture. The Arabic vocabulary
was used along with native languages. Advanced Muslim literature and arts was adapted by African
societies and helped them develop. Islam brought more trade to Africa which influenced the culture
even more. Islam developed most of math and algebra in African civilizations, along with medicine.

Rubenstein s Microculture
McCurdy, Spradley ad Shandy (2005) state that when performing ethnographies, we should choose
accessible microculture. Since it was difficult for Rubenstein to find informants who were available, I
believe he should have changed his microculture to study. It would be extremely difficult to study
relationships that are forged at the station when you only are interviewing one person. Had his original
three, willing informants been available, he would have been able to perform a much better study.
It would have also been beneficial to be able to use informants of various ranks such as the Chief, the

More often these days, you hear of females participating in roles that previously were male oriented.
Do you believe that life would be different in the fire station if there was a female on the squad or
engine companies? Do you think that it would be more difficult to build a relationship with a female
firefighter than with a male firefighter (or vice versa if interviewing a female firefighter)? Why?
3. There have been several popular movies and television shows that portray the lives of firefighters.
Some of these such as Backdraft (Howard and Lewis, 1991), Ladder 49 (Russell and Silver, 2004) and
Chicago Fire (Wolf, 2012) present life as a career firefighter. However, in the United States, close to
seventy percent are volunteer firefighters (National Fire Protection Association, 2014, p. iii). What

approach, he would have included some literature review as part of his study and the naïve reality that

background information he may have discovered prior to the data collection portion of the study. As it

Rhetorical Devices In No Name Woman
In Maxine Hong Kingston s essay No Name Woman, Kingston speculates the life of her deceased aunt
from an anecdote her mother tells her. Kingston s aunt is never discussed and is essentially dead to the
family and village since she was impregnated by a man other than her husband. As a result, the village
raided the family s home, killed their livestock, and destroyed dinnerware to show Kingston s aunt a
fraction of the betrayal she had caused the town. Kingston s version of the story retells her aunt being
coerced to pursue a new man other than her husband that ends in an unplanned pregnancy. Killing
herself, Kingston s aunt tries to end the consistent bombardment of rejection and humiliation that her
sins have caused her by jumping into the village well. To conclude, Kingston states she is haunted by

The Issue Of Supervised Injection Sites
The issue of Supervised Injection Sites (SIS) in Canada is a contentious issue. Many Canadians feel
conflicted between providing healthcare options and supporting an illegal and anti social behaviour.
Canadian society has always dealt with some percentage of the population who have become addicted
to intravenous drugs. Left unchecked, the ecology of IV drug use creates a number of societal issues
as well as a greater burden to the already over stretched Canadian healthcare system. Legally and
financially supporting safe injection sites is just a matter of simple economics.
This essay refers often to the term cost avoidance . Cost avoidance refers to activities that reduce
future spending. That is to say, future spending would have increased without the cost avoidance
activities.
An often discussed approach to dealing with substance abuse in Canada defines four pillars:
prevention, treatment, enforcement and harm reduction. Supervised Injection Sites fall under harm
reduction. The pillar of harm reduction concerns the efforts around reducing the negative impacts to
society that substance abuse inflicts.
1
Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and Hepatitis C (HCV) are blood borne diseases transmitted
through coming in direct contact with an infected person s blood. Canadians who are intravenous drug
users (IDUs) have a higher than normal risk for coming into contact with both diseases.

Differences Between Willy Loman And Death Of A Salesman
In 1949, Arthur Miller released a play called Death of a Salesman which involves the struggle of the
Loman family. In 1985, August Wilson released a play called Fences which involves the struggle of
the Loman family. Both the Maxson and Loman family can relate to each other with the same issue.
They both deal with financial problems, a dysfunctional father, and the father s affair. Both Troy
Maxson and Willy Loman cannot get along with their own families. The difference between Troy
Maxson and Willy Loman is that racial discrimination has feared Troy into being very negative and
Willy has a mental issue that would make him think that he needs to be rich (salesman).
In Death of a Salesman, Willy mental issues make him not properly run his family the right way. He
focuses way too much on business and wealth and won t worry about his health and family. He is
convinced that being rich would make him and his family have a good life instead of just being happy
with what he had. His obsession with wealth would cause him to attempt suicide when he becomes a
failure and unemployed. Willy just needs to realize that he is an ordinary man and isn t meant to be
rich.
Also in Death of a Salesman, Biff is dependent on the family and he needs to be a salesman to make
his father proud. However, Biff knows that Willy had an affair with another woman, Willy later on
remember this moment in a flashback. The affair would scarred Biff to drop out of summer school and
would let Linda deal with Willy s mental problems. Biff also tries to get a job, but ends up
unemployed like his father. Biff even tries to steal just so he could make his father proud. Biff learns
that he and Willy cannot be rich and they are just ordinary men who should get ordinary salaries.
In Fences, Troy runs his family by being negative and bossy. He acts this way because he struggled to
become successful when he was a young man. He was rejected at Major League Baseball because his
race wasn t accepted yet, and that s why he wouldn t let Cory play football anymore. Racial
discrimination is the key element that connects with Troy and his problem with his family. Troy doesn

Humanity In Shirley Jackson s The Lottery
When one typically thinks about a lottery, images of people yelling for joy and stacks of cash,
typically come to mind. But that is not the case with Shirley Jackson s short story, The Lottery .
Whereas lotteries typically have a positive connotation, Jackson s lottery is quite the opposite Jackson
s sinister tale, published in the late 1940s, was written in order to highlight the pointless violence and
general inhumanity that was present in the world. Jackson s writing was meant to shock, and in doing
so, make the story s message memorable to readers. In her story, Jackson uses seemingly ordinary
details about the townspeople and the lottery itself, to emphasize her theme that although humanity
claims to be civilized, it is, in reality, inherently barbaric.
Throughout her story, Jackson provides various instances of humanity s pseudo normalcy. First ...

In order to do so, Jackson included the fact that the whole lottery took less two hours...and still allow
for villagers to get home for noon dinner . The villagers wanted to speed through the ritual as quickly
as possible in order to return back to their normal lives. The savageness of the lottery was just another
insignificant segment in their day to day lives. Next, Jackson includes how the false sense of
normality created by humanity is presented by its children. Jackson described how the children of the
village had gathered first since school was over for the summer and the feeling of liberty sat uneasily
on most of them . Typically, when children leave school for the summer they are happy. But for the
children of the village, the beginning of summer meant that they now had to worry about the

Analysis Of King Leopold s Ghost
King Leopold s Ghost: A Story of Greed, Terror, and Heroism in Colonial Africa is the informative
history book written by Adam Hochschild, telling what seems to be the lost Holocaust of the late
1800s which continued into the early 1900s in Belgium. Under the ruling of King Leopold II, Belgium
exploited the Congo and committed horrendous crimes against the native people of the Congo for
King Leopold s own political and economic gain. The driving force that lead to Belgium and King
Leopold exploiting and colonizing the Congo was the abundance and variety of resources that it had to
offer, which Belgium wanted to utilize. Countries and populations were unaware of the genocide of
millions of people that were victims of murder, starvation, exhaustion,

Ford Motor Company Analysis
External and Internal Environments
Automotive Industry Ford Motor Company
Choose the two (2) segments of the general environment that would rank highest in their influence on
the corporation you chose. Assess how these segments affect the corporation you chose and the
industry in which it operates.
The general environment for Ford and the automotive industry in general can best be characterized by
weakened economy and emerging social and political trends that are demanding higher efficiency
vehicles. Although the economy has substantial stabilized since the Great Recession of 2008, it is by
no means made its way back to a full recovery. Ford was also in the strongest financial position of the
big three American automobile manufacturers and was able to post massive increases in sales and
profits in as early as 2010 after broad sweeping restructuring efforts (Hirsch, 2010). The company also
provided it could be profitable within a low volume sales environment which indicates its resilience in
a new automotive market.
Figure 1 Job Growth in the Auto Sector (Hwang, 2012)
Another critical environmental factor is the new demand for more efficient vehicles. Much of this is
due to higher fuel costs as well as environmental concerns. Since June of 2009, vehicle sales are up
greatly year over year, and it is sales of fuel efficient vehicles that are driving overall sales growth as
consumers rank fuel efficiency as their top priority in seeking a new vehicle.

Football Advantages And Disadvantages
One of the first football games, of my freshman year that we weren t supposed to win; however, we
ended up winning by so many points that my head coach told yours truly to allow the opposing team s
participants to tackle myself while running the football. Although I only scored once in that game, I
truly did a little acting when they struggled to tackle yours truly all throughout the conclusion of the
3rd and 4th quarter. This story is about both having a perceived advantage that became a disadvantage
and a perceived a disadvantage that became a real advantage. It is true that during the fall of 1991, my
football team (Little Cypress Mauriceville) remained the underdogs as a 4A school playing against a
5A school in Orange, Texas. That implies their school happened to be much larger, and I should
mention our class had 1,500 students in just my school s freshman class alone. For years I remember
being disappointed the day our head coach wouldn t allow us to run up the score on that cold Friday
night. Although, years later it suddenly dawned on me that it would have been incredibly rude and
may have well discouraged the other team s players from ever getting much better at the sport of
football (unless they didn t just up and quit the next day). Our behavior would have been simply
uncouth.
If I could somehow figure out how to travel back in time and explain to my juvenile self how running
up the score would have been rude, crude, and uncivilized. I would have spent less of

Smith And Carlos Death Threats
Based off information from a 1968 Olympics Black Power Salute, we learn that Smith and Carlos
were criticized and their families started receiving death threats. Smith and Carlos ended their
Olympic careers but they both played in the NFL for a short period of time. Smith became a coach and
is now a public speaker. Carlos stopped sports due to a bad knee injury which prevented him from
continuing. He hit hard times when his ex wife committed suicide and he went into a state of
depression. He became a school counselor in 2012. Norman raced a few more times but then called it
quits and when he passed away in 2006, Smith and Carlos were pallbearers at his funeral. (1968
Olympics) Two documentary films were produced about the 1969 protest ... Show more content on

Smith and Carlos showed how sometimes you have to sacrifice yourself for the betterment of society.
This protest also reminds us that if only the groups that want change make a stand, it will take a lot
longer for change to happen. Since Norman gave them the one glove idea and wore a patch supporting
human rights, he was the symbol for all others that need to help minority groups get justice. He was a
white Australian and risked his athletic career to help Smith and Carlos. We can t expect minority
groups to make all the sacrifices to make America to give all Americans equal rights. Protests need to
be a group effort by everyone if we want to make a difference. Even though the were hated at first,
there are sculptures and murals all around the world of this protest. People are starting to see the
impact that Smith and Carlos had on the world. They became an icon for social movements and
protests. Colin Kaepernick is the new Smith and Carlos. He noticed change needed to happen so he
risked his athletic career and image for the sake of is black brothers and sisters who are being treated

East Verde River Case Study
Below the Mogollon Rim near Payson runs the East Verde River, a waterway that is supplemented
with discharge of water collected on The Rim at CC. Cragin Reservoir. According to Clay Thompson
of the Arizona Republic, the area gets its name from the mechanization of the water s power through a
metal water wheel fashioned from milk cans that was used by gold miner James Dave Greer to crush
ore and supply a sluice box with water.
The United States Geological Survey pinpoints the waterway s rate of flow at Camp Verde, Arizona,
60 some miles down the canyon. Median flow for June 1 hovers at 82 feet per second, though the
canyon that guides it can become a raging torrent, once funneling 481 cubic feet per second through
its rocky shoals on June 1 of 1992. Fortunately, our visit to the popular recreation area was marked
with a serene 63 cubic feet per second chattering down the river. ... Show more content on

The river plunges down weathered rock dotted with copses of juniper, sycamore, oak, and manzanita.
Crags soar on each side of the canyon, funneling the river s flow over falls and delta like redirections

falling behind as we hike the two miles to the destination falls and its accompanying pool of crystal
water. The river itself alternates between barely shoe depth trickles, raging, frothy falls, and deep,

  • 2. Importance Of The Colosseum The functions religious or otherwise, of the colosseum were irrelevant to the ultimate design of the architecture. Once the colosseum had been built it seems to have become the model for many, if not most, of those that followed (Hopkins and Beard 2005, 24). The Colosseum stands proudly upon the villainous Emperor Nero s once grand Valley of the Golden House, projecting the munificence of Imperial Roman Architecture of the Flavian period. Its ultimate design could be said to be formed through purpose or function. However, this does not do justice to the importance of architecture within Roman society (Thornton and Thornton in Lyes 1999, 2). The functions whether it be religious or otherwise, of the Colosseum were irrelevant to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The diameter of the entire Colosseum was thus reduced and convention disregarded to take into consideration this architectural feature. Looking in detail at the classical orders themselves which made up the levels of the façade and the 80 grand entrances of the Colosseum it would appear to not be revolutionary. However, if you engage with the architecture closer it reveals further Roman architectural ingenuity and the importance of the structures appearance. Traditionally Roman buildings saw the use of the classical Greek Doric order on ground levels (without bases) with the more decorative orders of Ionic and Corinthian stacked above this (Lyes 1999, 6). However, in the Colosseum these orders were stacked and used in a way which had no previous precedent in Roman architecture (Lyes 1999, 6). The design sees the orders dramatically reduced, which has the columns that are engaged within the structure constructed with bases, and the column shaft themselves missing the usual entasis of classic Greek orders, this all leads to a much simplified capital. Between each stacked order there is a triple facia architrave, a relatively plain designed freeze and cornice (Lyes 1999, 6). The use of the classical orders in this manner within the design of the Colosseum, without precedent, was in fact not structural but a façade or veneer. This allowed the ... • 6. Now we can apply Little s Law to calculate the throughput time which is equal to the manufacturing lead time in this case. By Little s Law, Throughput time = Work in process / Throughput rate = Work in process * Cycle time = 11760 * 0.5 = 5880 minutes Since production goes on for 8 hrs per day, manufacturing lead time = 5880 / (8 * 60) = 12.25 days Total number of shirts produced per month is 16,000. The company works for 20 days a month. So, the output per day = 16000 / 20 = 800 shirts. In, 8 hours a day, the company can produce 60 * 8 * (1/0.5) = 960 shirts, which is the current production capacity. But it needs to produce only 800 shirts. So, the capacity utilization = (800 / 960) * 100 = 83.33% The actual labor utilized = Number of shirts produced * Direct labor content = 800 * 25.76 = 20608 minutes The available labor for utilization = Total number of workers * Hours per day * ... Naomi goes through a journey in the novel to uncover the truth of her past. One of the many literary elements that the novel possesses is animal imagery that emphasizes meaning and contributes to the novel s theme. Several animals are mentioned throughout the novel to represent Naomi s emotions and her journey. Old Man Gower is an adult who is supposed to protect her but he uses his power manipulate her. Another way Old Man Gower controlled Naomi is through speech; not only did he explicitly tell her to not inform her mother of what is happening, Naomi cannot tell her mother even if she wants to. Old Man Gower creates the division between Naomi and her mother with this forbidden secret. As much as Naomi wants to tell her mother, she knows that her cry for help will end badly. As wide as Naomi wants her mouth to open, she, just as the chicken with its throat slit open, cannot speak a word. The chicken that gets tortured by Sho later on in the novel, cannot run away or cry for help, Its beak is open, but there is no sound (185). Wood Troy University Article 1 Improving student performance has long been an issue contemplated and researched by educational professionals and psychologists. Nowadays, an even greater burden has been placed on the shoulders of teachers, whose livelihoods are being determined by how well their students perform on standardized tests and other academic evaluations. With this increased amount of pressure, teachers are desperate to find ways to improve student success. As Hidi and Harackiewicz point out, the aspect of student learning that teachers have the most influence over is the amount of effort put in by students (Hidi Harackiewicz, 2000). Research has shown that students motivation to meet these academic demands begins steadily declining around the third grade (Anderman Maehr, 1987; Harter, 1981) which means teachers must take proactive approaches in their classrooms to stimulate and maintain the motivation of their students. According to Hidi and Harackiewicz, student interest serves as a foundation for intrinsic motivation. While teachers are not able to directly impact a student s individual interest (interest determined by the student s predisposition or inclination towards a subject), their situational interest (interest generated by exteneral forces) can be greatly impacted. Their findings showed that situational interest can influence individual interest, and the two forms of interest, working in harmony, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the words of Mr. John Ouimet, Prototyping is used any time you are going to make something, whether you are doing hardcore engineering or . . . it takes on many different appearances. You can simulate many of the earlier steps with just a computer. However, what does the word prototype actually mean? Prototyping is the process of making an early sample of a product, built to test a concept or process, or it s a thing meant to be replicated or learned from. However, it is not just limited to the engineering field; it can also be applied to the arts and sciences. One form of prototyping one could use is called 3D printing, where you have to design an object using a 3D modeling software and send it to a 3D printer to be printed. Generally speaking, this is a relatively fast and cheap method of making a prototype, as the materials are fairly cheap, and you can design what you want printed from the comfort of your own home. As Kouzes and Posner write, Codianni told us that encouraging the heart is the most important leadership practice, because it s the most personal. Codianni believes leadership is all about people, and if you re going to lead people you have to care about them (2003, p. 8). Caring about others creates a powerful bond between the leader and the follower. As Gurenlian writes, This concept comes from leadership literature, but was recognized as something relevant to demonstrate support for one another (2014, p.10). This strong bond is what makes the leader effective. By showing the follower that they are important and that they truly matter, the leader can extract better results from those individuals that he or she is leading. After time, leaders produce more leaders. Leaders are not just those who hold certain position, otherwise known as position power, but as Crossan, Mazutis, Seijts, and Gandz write. However, our view of leadership is not focused on power or position, but rather on the capacity of individuals to bring the best of themselves to support and enable others, ensure the organizations they work with achieve at the highest level, and in doing so, contribute to society (2013, p.391). Sagadraca Summer 2015 Practicum at the American Red Cross University of North Florida Dr. Jody Nicholson July 31, 2015 ABSTRACT With considerable amounts of psychological research focused on volunteers, this paper will attempt to indicate and reiterate the motivations of volunteers in non profit organizations through an integrative style of thinking. A lot of research is based on the well being of a person in regards to their motivation, so this research paper will target the potentially important aspects a volunteer associates themselves with, with respect of their motivations and their well being. No real research has been done, but through an internship at the American Red Cross, this will assist the integrative style of writing to produce helpful information for volunteers and their motivations. Of these people though, 49% have represented the adult population with a quarter of them having devoted their time to 5 or more hours per week for volunteering (the motivations to volunteer). The difference between Troy Maxson and Willy Loman is that racial discrimination has feared Troy into being very negative and Willy has a mental issue that would make him think that he needs to be rich (salesman). In Death of a Salesman, Willy mental issues make him not properly run his family the right way. He focuses way too much on business and wealth and won t worry about his health and family. He is convinced that being rich would make him and his family have a good life instead of just being happy with what he had. His obsession with wealth would cause him to attempt suicide when he becomes a failure and unemployed. Willy just needs to realize that he is an ordinary man and isn t meant to be rich. Also in Death of a Salesman, Biff is dependent on the family and he needs to be a salesman to make his father proud. However, Biff knows that Willy had an affair with another woman, Willy later on remember this moment in a flashback. The affair would scarred Biff to drop out of summer school and would let Linda deal with Willy s mental problems. Biff also tries to get a job, but ends up unemployed like his father. Biff even tries to steal just so he could make his father proud. Biff learns that he and Willy cannot be rich and they are just ordinary men who should get ordinary salaries. In Fences, Troy runs his family by being negative and bossy. He acts this way because he struggled to become successful when he was a young man. He was rejected at Major League Baseball because his race wasn t accepted yet, and that s why he wouldn t let Cory play football anymore. Racial discrimination is the key element that connects with Troy and his problem with his family. Troy doesn t want his sons to end up the way he did. Towards the end of the play, Cory is kicked out ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Humanity In Shirley Jackson s The Lottery When one typically thinks about a lottery, images of people yelling for joy and stacks of cash, typically come to mind. But that is not the case with Shirley Jackson s short story, The Lottery . Whereas lotteries typically have a positive connotation, Jackson s lottery is quite the opposite Jackson s sinister tale, published in the late 1940s, was written in order to highlight the pointless violence and general inhumanity that was present in the world. Jackson s writing was meant to shock, and in doing so, make the story s message memorable to readers. In her story, Jackson uses seemingly ordinary details about the townspeople and the lottery itself, to emphasize her theme that although humanity claims to be civilized, it is, in reality, inherently barbaric. Throughout her story, Jackson provides various instances of humanity s pseudo normalcy. First ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order to do so, Jackson included the fact that the whole lottery took less two hours...and still allow for villagers to get home for noon dinner . The villagers wanted to speed through the ritual as quickly as possible in order to return back to their normal lives. The savageness of the lottery was just another insignificant segment in their day to day lives. Next, Jackson includes how the false sense of normality created by humanity is presented by its children. Jackson described how the children of the village had gathered first since school was over for the summer and the feeling of liberty sat uneasily on most of them . Typically, when children leave school for the summer they are happy. But for the children of the village, the beginning of summer meant that they now had to worry about the ... • 45. Analysis Of King Leopold s Ghost King Leopold s Ghost: A Story of Greed, Terror, and Heroism in Colonial Africa is the informative history book written by Adam Hochschild, telling what seems to be the lost Holocaust of the late 1800s which continued into the early 1900s in Belgium. Under the ruling of King Leopold II, Belgium exploited the Congo and committed horrendous crimes against the native people of the Congo for King Leopold s own political and economic gain. The driving force that lead to Belgium and King Leopold exploiting and colonizing the Congo was the abundance and variety of resources that it had to offer, which Belgium wanted to utilize. Countries and populations were unaware of the genocide of millions of people that were victims of murder, starvation, exhaustion, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Ford Motor Company Analysis External and Internal Environments Automotive Industry Ford Motor Company Choose the two (2) segments of the general environment that would rank highest in their influence on the corporation you chose. Assess how these segments affect the corporation you chose and the industry in which it operates. The general environment for Ford and the automotive industry in general can best be characterized by weakened economy and emerging social and political trends that are demanding higher efficiency vehicles. Although the economy has substantial stabilized since the Great Recession of 2008, it is by no means made its way back to a full recovery. Ford was also in the strongest financial position of the big three American automobile manufacturers and was able to post massive increases in sales and profits in as early as 2010 after broad sweeping restructuring efforts (Hirsch, 2010). The company also provided it could be profitable within a low volume sales environment which indicates its resilience in a new automotive market. Figure 1 Job Growth in the Auto Sector (Hwang, 2012) Another critical environmental factor is the new demand for more efficient vehicles. Much of this is due to higher fuel costs as well as environmental concerns. Since June of 2009, vehicle sales are up greatly year over year, and it is sales of fuel efficient vehicles that are driving overall sales growth as consumers rank fuel efficiency as their top priority in seeking a new vehicle. ... • 47. Football Advantages And Disadvantages One of the first football games, of my freshman year that we weren t supposed to win; however, we ended up winning by so many points that my head coach told yours truly to allow the opposing team s participants to tackle myself while running the football. Although I only scored once in that game, I truly did a little acting when they struggled to tackle yours truly all throughout the conclusion of the 3rd and 4th quarter. This story is about both having a perceived advantage that became a disadvantage and a perceived a disadvantage that became a real advantage. It is true that during the fall of 1991, my football team (Little Cypress Mauriceville) remained the underdogs as a 4A school playing against a 5A school in Orange, Texas. That implies their school happened to be much larger, and I should mention our class had 1,500 students in just my school s freshman class alone. For years I remember being disappointed the day our head coach wouldn t allow us to run up the score on that cold Friday night. Although, years later it suddenly dawned on me that it would have been incredibly rude and may have well discouraged the other team s players from ever getting much better at the sport of football (unless they didn t just up and quit the next day). Our behavior would have been simply uncouth. If I could somehow figure out how to travel back in time and explain to my juvenile self how running up the score would have been rude, crude, and uncivilized. I would have spent less of ... Smith and Carlos showed how sometimes you have to sacrifice yourself for the betterment of society. This protest also reminds us that if only the groups that want change make a stand, it will take a lot longer for change to happen. Since Norman gave them the one glove idea and wore a patch supporting human rights, he was the symbol for all others that need to help minority groups get justice. He was a white Australian and risked his athletic career to help Smith and Carlos. We can t expect minority groups to make all the sacrifices to make America to give all Americans equal rights. Protests need to be a group effort by everyone if we want to make a difference. Even though the were hated at first, there are sculptures and murals all around the world of this protest. People are starting to see the impact that Smith and Carlos had on the world. They became an icon for social movements and protests. Colin Kaepernick is the new Smith and Carlos. • 49. East Verde River Case Study Below the Mogollon Rim near Payson runs the East Verde River, a waterway that is supplemented with discharge of water collected on The Rim at CC. Cragin Reservoir. According to Clay Thompson of the Arizona Republic, the area gets its name from the mechanization of the water s power through a metal water wheel fashioned from milk cans that was used by gold miner James Dave Greer to crush ore and supply a sluice box with water. The United States Geological Survey pinpoints the waterway s rate of flow at Camp Verde, Arizona, 60 some miles down the canyon. Median flow for June 1 hovers at 82 feet per second, though the canyon that guides it can become a raging torrent, once funneling 481 cubic feet per second through its rocky shoals on June 1 of 1992. Fortunately, our visit to the popular recreation area was marked with a serene 63 cubic feet per second chattering down the river. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
