Cosmopolitanism In Things Fall Apart By Chinua Achebe
Having a new perspective with new ideas can change a person. This is true and can be applied to
many different people and events, including a character in Chinua Achebe s novel Things Fall
Apart. In the novel missionaries come to a tribe, Umuofia, and convert some of their people.
However, a convert by the name of Enoch creates tension and unrest between the tribe and the
missionaries. If this character were to be more cosmopolitan, one who is familiar and accepts other
cultures and ideas, and followed ideas presented in Kwame Anthony Appiahs Cosmopolitanismhis
actions would have been vastly different. When one applies Appiah s cosmopolitan ideas, in
Cosmopolitanism to the character of Enoch in Achebe s Things Fall Apart, the character of Enoch
changes to become an individual of more respect, which in turn would prevent the unrest
between the missionaries and the Umuofia people in Things Fall Apart. Things Fall Apart
exhibits many instances in which cosmopolitan ideas such as diversity in a society, can apply.
One of these instances is when people of Umuofia leave the tribe to become Christians and join
the missionaries, particularly Enoch. Enoch lived in Umuofia and followed their culture, but
when the missionaries arrived he was one of the few who quickly followed the word of Christ. In
Cosmopolitanism Appiah claims, If we want to preserve a wide range of human conditions
because it allows free people the best chance to make their own lives, there is no place for the

Discuss How Changes on Aggregate Demand Influence Price...

Economics FB1
Discuss how changes on aggregate demand influence price levels, output levels and employment.
The meaning of aggregate is added together. All of the elements introduced in microeconomics are
totaled in macroeconomics. Aggregate demand and supply analysis brings together the amount that
consumers wish to consume and firms wish to produce at any price levels. Aggregate demand (AD)
is the total demand for final goods and services in the economy (Y) at a given time and price
level. Also it is the amount of goods and services that will be purchased at all possible price levels
in the economy. This is called the demand for the Gross Domestic Product of a country when
inventory levels are static. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Confidence in future sales patterns and government incentive and regulations will also affect the
investment levels.
Another injection in the economy is the multiplier effect of the investment. In the economy, the
money invested today will have a greater impact such as increasing the levels of output in the
future. This is because investment rises the capital stock. With an evolution in technology, the
machineries help production become faster and cheaper, thus contributing greatly to increasing the
output in long term. * The Price Level and Net Exports: The Exchange Rate Effect
Exports represent an injection into the circular flow of income, in that the money paid for
goods and services sold abroad enters the domestic flow of income. Imports mean that there is
an outflow of money, and exports minus imports gives the total movement of funds known as
net exports. There are a number of reasons why the value of net exports might change. If the
exchange rate increases in value against other currencies, imports become cheaper and exports
more expensive on world markets. Over time, people respond to these relative price movements
and the demand for exports falls and the demand for imports rises. A stronger currency will
worsen net exports, whereas a weaker currency will improve the figure. Also, for example if a fall
in the UK price level causes UK interest rates to fall, the real exchange rate

This report provides in depth look into Wiggo current business strategy and Indonesian grocery
retail market condition in order to assess the feasibility and provide strategic marketing plan for
Wiggo to enter Indonesian market.
Key to this plan is the opportunity of business in Indonesia as an emerging market and top 10 most
attractive destinations for FDI in UNCTAD s World Investment Prospects Survey in 2010. Macro
and micro economic analysis uncovered that
Indonesia is an attractive market for Wiggo s business expansion though attention should be paid to
infrastructure support, widespread corruption and social stability issue.
Like most Asian countries, Indonesian grocery retail market is far from saturation. There are much
scope for modern format retailers to increase penetration in suburban area and second tier cities.
Competition would be expected in
Wiggo s business segment which is medium supermarket size with the massive local retailer s
expansion. This retail sector will achieve double substantial growth with expected amount of
US$70.73 billion in 2015.
To create and increase brand awareness, make product affordable and appealing for Indonesian
market to capture 1% of market share in 5 years, the following marketing mix is suggested:
1. Product: Localization of products, imitating local supermarket in product selection and store
display, providing fresh food and

My Family s Influence On My Life
The word community maintains an assortment of meanings for each of us. These meanings are
composed from various life experiences within our communities. To me, my communities include
my family, friends, schools, work, and the town I live in. My communities have had an influence
on who I have become as a person and continue to influence me on a daily basis. As I reflect back
on the past twenty years, the communitythat has had the most impact on me is my family. Now,
everyone has their own definition of family. So, when I say the word family, I am referring to
my mom and dad. These two people have had the most influence on my life. From the very
beginning, I began to shape the person I am based on the people my parents are. I can remember
spending many hours with my dad in his shop, watching him diagnose mechanical problems.
Then I would watch as he took apart a machine piece by piece, only to reassemble it exactly the
same way once the problem at hand was resolved. As the years progressed, I became closer with
my mom, spending the majority of my time with her. I would help her around the house with
everyday chores. I can remember the joy I experienced when I was able to go to work with mom.
I would watch in awe at the number of tasks my mother was responsible for at one time. How she
would swiftly move from one task to another, handling the many interruptions, and balancing the
numerous new tasks placed on her desk each day. Spending much of my time with

Greek Religion By Walter Burkert
In Greek Religion , Walter Burkert informs his readers mostly about the Greeks religious beliefs.
In section one, Burkert begins to discuss the history of the Early Bronze Age, such as the
vocabulary of Indo European and the religion of the Minoan Mycenaeans. He mentions the
different cult places which include: caves, temples, graves, as well as peak, tree, and house
sanctuaries. For example, a cult includes the Minoan Tree and Pillar Cult; the pillars and trees
were sacred, however, they were not worshipped. He also goes on to explain about Minoan Deities,
Mycenaean Gods and Linear B, and the Dark Age ; he talks about the evidence that exists of Linear
A and Linear B, such as the tablets recovered from Crete and Knossos. In section two, Burkert
describes the different kinds of rituals and symbols; the bull was a type of symbol from the
Hellenistic tradition, and there were festivals that celebrated the bull itself. Different kinds of rituals
Burkert explains include: animal sacrifice, blood and fire rituals, gift offering and libation, votive
offerings, prayer, dancing, hymns, masks, festivals, and purification. The Anthesteria Festival is
described in depth, such as that it occurred in the springtime for three days; additionally, the reason
for the festival is described. Burkert mentions different types of sanctuaries like the altar and the
temple. Also, Greek Religion describes certain philosophers outlook toward religion. In section

INTRODUCTION Digital images are very large in size and occupy large storage space. They
take larger bandwidth and take more time for upload and download through the internet. In order
to overcome this problem various compression algorithms are used. Wavelet based image coding,
such as the JPEG2000 standard, is widely used because of its high compression efficiency. There
are three important wavelet based image coding algorithms are used that have embedded coding

Psychological Theories Of Personality
Personality is a topic that we have been discussing this past week in lecture. We have discussed
personality types and how different personalities may develop. When looking at all the
information that has been provided, it will be very interesting to apply it to my personal life.
With this assignment, I will not only be describing my own personality but also relating it to the
topics covered in lecture and determining what psychological theory is best for me. When
looking at my own personality, I would say that I am a mix of many things. I feel like I am a mix
of introverted and extroverted and an individual that relies more on feeling than reasoning. I often

It is not saying that I do not get along with others, because I have a large circle of friends. It is
only saying that when it comes to opening up mentally and emotionally, there are only certain
people I can do that with. Outside of that, I am a very thoughtful and caring individual and will
always put others before myself. I enjoy laughing and caring for others. My parents always
raised me to be a humble person and to value my character and have good morals. I do not have a
quick temper and am usually an easy going. I just want to make everybody around me proud and
that is what motivates me to this day. If a person is not in my family or inner circle, there is not
much that can be done to alter my mood or mindset. I am just my own person that does not worry
about what others say or think about my character, values, or morals. As stated previously, we have
been discussing personality in depth in lab and lecture. We have learned about the five major
perspectives of personality. These include trait, biological, psychodynamic, humanistic, and learning
/social cognitive. I feel like each one of these can explain how my personality has developed and
how it still changes to this day. The trait perspective says that we receive certain characteristics that
are influences from genetic predispositions. In simpler terms, we get our personality and certain
characteristics from our parents. When examining my personality, this

Jean Paul Sartre on the Anti Semite Essay
Jean Paul Sartre on the Anti Semite Describe the anti semitic person s attitude toward reason. How
does his attitude toward reason reflect or reveal his general attitude toward life, the human
condition and even himself? How does his attitude toward reason compare to the attitude of the
rational man? Sartre explains that an Anti Semite is impenetrable , and it is actually something he
strives to achieve. By gaining impenetrability, the Anti Semite strengthens his beliefs because
another person is not capable of reasoning with him. Sartre believes the Anti Semite s reason is
based on the passion for hatred that he holds for the Jew. Sartre uses the word monoideism to

The rational man is open to all ideas; he strives to gain more factual information to back his
views. However, the Anti Semite remains closed minded and chooses to be ignorant to the fact
that his beliefs are not valid. The rational man seeks information, and does not feel content until
his quest for knowledge is over. The rational man is even hesitant when he states his ideas, or
comes to conclusions. He realizes that there are other views on every subject, and he wants to
contemplate over every possible idea that he is able to think of until he reaches his own. The
reasonable man will even admit when he is proven wrong, and change his view. The Anti Semite
wishes not to change, and claims, even when proven wrong, that his beliefs are still of a valid
and true nature. Sartre believes the actual content of truth frightens the Anti Semite. The idea of
there being other views is ignored by the Anti Semite. He chooses to remain innate . They want to
come to a conclusion right away, and consider only the factors that benefit him. Sartre blames the
Anti Semites ability to ignore reasoning and research on emotional bias . Through this emotional
bias, he feels at ease because he is in a state of bliss; he feels as though he knows all he needs to
know about life. In conclusion, the Anti Semite disregards any other ideas besides his own, and

James Madison And The Creation Of The Constitution
Instances of inequality, especially in regard to citizenship and voting, trace back to the birth of the
American nation, specifically, to James Madison and the creation of the Constitution. In late 1786,
a Revolutionary War Veteran by the name of Daniel Shays, led an armed insurrection of improvised
farmers who marched on the United StatesArmory in Springfield, Massachusetts in an unsuccessful
attempt to seize weapons and overthrow the government. Colonial elites, horrified by the threat to
their wealth and power, sought to reform the government, concerned with protecting their own
rights. After Shays rebellion, it was clear that elites were the vulnerable minority. Compounding this
rhetoric, the primary architect of the constitution, James Madison, writes: Complaints are

Representation in the form of a republic; the best way to settle disputes between the people and the
elite, is by making the elite the representatives of the people passing them through the medium of a
chosen body of citizens, whose wisdom may best discern the true interest of their country. Madison
even claimed that such an arrangement would render the public voice, pronounced by the
representatives of the people . . . more consonant to the public good than if pronounced by the
people themselves. Madison s fear of the general public, illuminates the intended audience for
Federalist 10, wealthy elites, being assured that their interests would be best served (and protected)

The Crossing Of The Delaware And The Victory At Trenton
A E s The Crossing is an exceptional dramatization of the crossing of the Delaware and the victory
at Trenton. It depicts the actions that George Washington and his men took leading up to the
renowned battle. The main points portrayed by the film are relatively accurate; however, there are
still many historical inaccuracies. Washington s use of profanity in the film, the weather during the
march to Trenton, and the flag flown by the American army are just a few. George Washington
s
dialogue in The Crossing is the least accurate element of the film. Washington s leadership style
was the direct opposite. Nearly thirty years before the crossing of the Delaware, Washington made
clear how he felt about profanity in his Rules of Civility. His twenty second rule stated: Use no
reproachful language against anyone, neither curse, nor revile. Ten years later, he made this clear in
his military affairs:
Colonel Washington has observed that the men of his regiment are very profane and reprobate.
He takes this opportunity to inform them of his great displeasure at such practices and assures
them that if they do not leave them off, they shall be severely punished. The officers are desired, if
they hear any man swear or make use of an oath or execration, to order the offender twenty five
lashes immediately, without court martial. For the second offense, he will be more severely
punished (Sparks).
Washington s loathing for expletives persisted even 30 years later as seen in

God s Sovereignty Of Eternal Life
There are many great points that Moyer brings out as to how we should evangelize. He is clear
on many aspects of the Gospel, such as using 1 Corinthians 15 to explain what the Gospel is. He
also deals with sin, saving faith, assurance, good works, evangelism in the New Testament, the
best way to evangelize, prayer, boldness in evangelism and our duty as believers to evangelize. For
the most part it is great stuff.
There were some thoughts that were not so positive when I finished reading the book. In an
overarching way, Moyer gives a sense that man accepts a gift in trusting Christ rather than God
choosing man to receive the gift of eternal life by trusting Christ. It may seem like splitting hairs to
some, but what is called into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The good news is that God made a way for man to come back into a right relationship with Him
through the atoning death, burial and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ. How we can come into
a right relationship with Christ is by realizing our condition of sin and recognizing that without
Christ we will spend eternity in hell apart from God. Oversimplification doesn t make the Gospel
clearer instead it gives a muddy picture of who Christ is and what He did. The Gospel is not that
God is here for you take Him. The Gospel is we are here for God serve Him. The only way we can
serve Him is if we are in right relationship with Him.
Moyer s book stresses emphatically that repentance in salvation is only a changing of the mind
and not a change of the will or actions. When used in a soteriological context, repentance means to
change your mind about whatever is keeping you from trusting Christ and trust Him alone to save
you. [2] Moyer also feels that repentance is not necessary for the sharing of the Gospel to an
unbeliever A comfort we derive from studying repentance is recognizing that we need not apologize
for not using the word repentance in evangelistic presentations. [3]
Moyer does not believe that salvation in any way requires surrendering to Christ. God does not say
to a lost person, You must give me control of your life or I will not save you. He is asking,

Equipment Depreciation
Purchasing equipment is one of the biggest expenses that small businesses and start ups face. The
IRS allows you deduct most or all of these expenses. This in turn helps you recoup the cost
associated with running your business. Moreover, by taking this deduction when you prepare your
tax return, it lowers your overall taxbill. In some cases, especially for small businesses, the
deductions could result in a refund.
There are different ways to expense business equipment when filing taxes, which can often lead to
confusion. If you re unsure how the deductions will affect your business, hiring a tax accountant is
a good idea. Mistakes or miscalculations when filing your tax return could trigger an IRS audit. A
professional can lessen the stress and time constraints during the tax preparation season.

Understanding Section 179 Deduction
Under Section 179, the IRS allows you to deduct the full price of the equipment you purchased or
leased during the year. By taking this deduction, you are essentially deducting the full cost of the
equipment from your company s gross income.
Your company must have a taxable income before you can use the 179 deduction. Additionally,
there is a cap on the deduction set at $500,000 that you can claim. There is also a maximum of
$2,010,000 for business equipment expenses during the year that Section 179 is claimed. Most
small business will not spend this amount on equipment during the early years of being in business,
which is why this deduction is so valuable.

Existentialism In No Exit
Existentialism concentrates on human existence and an individual discovering their meaning and
purpose in life. It involves free will and the ability to make choices, while taking responsibility for
the outcomes of those decisions. Existentialism is composed of five different elements, which are
authenticity, angst, anxiety, freedom, and absurdity. In Jean Paul Sartre
s play titled No Exit , the
multiple elements of existentialismare portrayed through the characters; Garcin, Estelle, and Inez.
One of the elements of existentialism that is present in No Exit is absurdity. Garcin finds himself
in complete disbelief when he realizes that hell is absolutely nothing like the depiction that is
given on earth. In the play, he states So this is hell. I d never have believed it. You remember all
we were told about were the torture chambers, the fire and brimstone... Instead of the common
belief that hell is nothing but a fire pit of agony, Garcin finds it to be just as normal as life on earth.

Much Ado About Nothing Deception
In the works Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare and A Doll s House by Henrik
Ibsen, the main characters are deceived within the reliable relationships they created in society.
Such deception occurs when Claudio s trust in his friends and family interferes with his marriage
to Hero. Similarly, when Nora deceives Torvald by hiding the truth and putting too much trust in
her friends. These two events symbolize the similarities of the works and represent a connection of
mistrust. The connection between the characters within the two plays demonstrates the tragedies
that occur throughout the plot of the story. The concept of deception connects the roles of the
main characters as they face consequences as represented in both works by creating relationships
and trust within their societies. Deception plays a critical role between Nora and Torvald s society

The Negative Impact Of Illegal Immigration On The US
Illegal Immigration is a Crime
Timothy Murphy States. Illegal Immigration is crisis for our country. It is an open door for drugs,
criminals and potential terrorist to enter our country. It is straining our economy, adding cost to our
judicial, healthcare and education systems. Illegal Immigration is hurting our country by letting
illegal immigrants in, causing higher costs for the economy. Illegal Immigration needs to be

Introduction One of the most complex aspects of counterterrorism (CT) for the intelligence

Religion was more important than politics in the failure of King and Parliament to reach a

In January 1649, King Charles I was executed after being charged with high treason due to political
and religious reasons, some of which contributed to his refusal in accepting the peace settlements
given to him by Parliament. Charles refusal to compromise was supported by the division that had

should be restricted to those with a permanent fixed interest in the kingdom as Seel 2 says, and that
the vote should go to those who possessed property or there would otherwise be a disturbance to a

those in the army and in parliament.
The politicisation of the New Model Army also played a significant role in the failure to reach a

Encomienda Or Slavery Timothy Yeager Summary
Encomienda or Slavery? by Timothy J. Yeager. I will analyze the author s thesis, the reasons why
the encomienda system was a better choice for the Crown, and I will disagree with Yeager s
viewpoint that it is not a curious option for the Crown to choose over the alternative of
enslavement. Encomienda was a system in which the Spaniards took over land, forced the natives
to work for them and in return the encomenderos provided the native Indians with protection. I will
also agree with the author s views of the Crown confiscating property from the encomenderos. In
Timothy J. Yeager s article, he discusses why the Crown decided to implement a governmental
structure of the encomienda rather than have the natives become their slaves. The encomienda

they provided protection to the natives of the land they took over. The Crown considered this a

Specific Qualities That Make Your Business Successful
2. Literature review.
2.1 Introduction
This literature review will be focused on specific qualities that make your business successful. We
will name both personal (entrepreneur s) and company qualities that could help us to achieve our
goals. This literature review is divided into 3 parts: Be in the Right Industry, Character (personal
qualities) and Company qualities. We will introduce in details content of each of these parts. For
this report we have chosen only relevant information and reliable sources.
2.2 Be in the Right Industry
The first step to a successful business is a right choice of an industry. This is a start point for any
entrepreneur before starting business itself. First of all, we should look on this choice in two
ways: 1) do you see yourself as part of this industry, will it be interesting for you and do you see
yourself successful in this industry, and 2) how successful is this industry nowadays. According to
Mintigo President John Bara, Successful companies tend to be geared towards rapidly growing
industries like software and Internet, computers, financial services, and healthcare. Twenty four
percent of the companies on the list (talking about the 5000 list of the fastest growing companies
according to Inc. magazine) in America are in business services, while 20 percent are in software
and Internet. (Rampton), but in the same time you should remember that it does not matter how
successful industry is, if you do not see yourself as part this industry.

Fructose Intolerance And The Aldolase B Gene And Fructose
Fructose Intolerance is caused by mutations in the aldolase B gene and Fructose 1, 6 biphosphate
aldolase. Both are important because it is responsible for gluconeogenesis and fructose metabolism.
Gluconeogenesis is the metabolic pathway that results in the production of glucose from non
carbohydrate carbon substrates or the opposite of Glycolysis (Figure 1). In simple terms, a
mutation on Fructose 1, 6 biphosphate would both hinder the production of pyruvate and the
production of glucose. Fructose Intolerance is also referred to as Fructose 1 Phosphate Aldolase
Deficiency. The modified enzymevaries in its original function and structure that derived from a
restricted genetic mutation (Cox, O Donnell, Camilleri, and Burghes).
Aldolase B is classified as a Lyase, or an enzyme that catalyzes the breaking of various bonds
means other than hydrolysis and oxidation. Lyase often forms a double bond or a new ring
structure. Fructose Intolerance is caused by mutations in the aldolase B gene which is expressed
in the liver (Malay, Allen, and Tolan). Its molecular compound is shown in Figure 2 and has two
active site residues, Lysine and Glutamate, as well as several charged residues. The functional
assignment is complex because of the proximity of the many charged amino acids found at the
active site. Figure 3 shows where the substitution of Proline for Alanine occur at position 149

basketball career. Experts made their comments about him which led to a dispute about whether he
is the greatest player in 21st century. As a limitation, the players in 21st century means the players
who spent most of his career in 21st century, which put Michael Jordan out of consideration. Hence,
the range of the choices could be probably narrowed to three players: Tim Duncan, Lebron James
and Kobe Bryant. Moreover, according to Dan Harriman, a professional writer mentioned, a great
player is the one has his contribution on and off the court, which is also the reason Michael Jordon
is generally considered as the greatest player ever (in 20th century? Better to mention). Namely, the
greatest player is determined by both the achievements inside the court and the impact outside the
court as a public character. As a result, it can be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the core player in their team, they are always responsible to take the last chance to score that
will determine the results of games, which is called Game Winning shot. According to a statistic
by ESPN, Kobe has made 36 Game Winning shots in his career while both Lebron and Tim have
made 23 Game Winning shots (Abbott, 2011). It is not difficult to conclude that Kobe has the
dominance to determine the result of games, especially during the last few minutes. Therefore,
Michael Jordan, who has been called the god of basketball , claimed that he loved watching Kobe

definitely shows that Kobe is the greatest in 21st century because of the praise from the god of

Cyrano De Bergerac Analysis
France is usually equated with love and romance, and a love triangle is especially a favourite of
most audiences. The French movie Cyrano de Bergerac, an 1990 adaptation of the original 19th
century play of the same title, is going to satisfy the appetites of those who are hooked on
everything about loveand French literature. Cyrano de Bergeracis a comedic remake of the same
play, except with exceptional cast members, completed with supremely poetic dialogues. Even if
you are not a fan of French poetry, the opulent costumes and enchanting music will surely bewitch
your aesthetic senses. Director Jean Paul Rappaneau intended this 2 hours, 18 minutes, PG rated
dramatic comedy to feed the eyes and ears of young adults. His cinematic adaptation remained
loyal to the original play: the movie starts off with the hero of the story Cyrano (Gerard
Depardieu) falling in love with his cousin Roxane (Anne Brochet). Our unfortunate hero was born
with an absurdly large nose, which makes Cyrano ferociously convinced that Roxane will never
grow to love him. This changes when Christian (Vincent Perez), a colleague of Cyrano in the same

The classical music suits the 17th century time period of the story, and accentuates the enduring
passion that permeates the film. Other than the music, the elegant costumes can be viewed as an
independent collection of artwork; in fact, the film s costume designer Franca Squarciapino
received the Academy Award for Best Costume Design at the 1990 Academy Awards. The acting
was as expected from French actors, passionate and dramatic, stirring sentiments of sympathy
towards Cyrano. Depardieu, in particular, presented to the audience a gallant and brilliant Cyrano,
as if the character has played as himself in the movie. The peach faced Brochet was tailored to the
character, as if Roxane was created just for her, not the other way

Justice and Love in Hugo s Les MisГ©rables
The nineteenth century was an era distinguished by invention, progress, and social change.
Countries were busy healing from previous wars while fighting ongoing battles at the same time.
Nationalism and militarism became extremely evident around the world as advances in science and
exploration propelled new discoveries. Significant movements, such as Romanticism and the
Industrial Revolution, stemmed in Europe and swept the masses, spreading widely across nations.
The rapid growth of the British Empire, alongside the calamitous fall of the French Empire, marked
the beginning of the eventful nineteenth century. Years after the French Revolution, the French
Empire was defeated in the Napoleonic wars, resulting in a broken union full of... Show more

Under the Declaration of Rights, the foreman s action of discriminating Valjean would be legally
protected because distinction based on virtue is permitted. However, the Declaration completely
disregards the fact that Valjean was imprisoned for something he did in a hopeless situation. The
society turned innocent people into hardened criminals because of their status. In Les MisГ©rables,
Hugo focuses on society s mistreatment of Valjean in order to show how society in nineteenth
century France was defective because it took no notice of the morality of inevitable crime. By
incorporating an accurate historical figure into his novel, Hugo highlights the idea that even in
miserable conditions, life can be changed through perseverance and effort. In Les MisГ©rables,
Jean Valjeanescapes his dark criminal past and uses his knowledge of industry to start a successful
factory. Years later, he becomes the mayor and is rumored to have immense sums deposited with
Laffitte, with the special condition that they were always at his immediate command (Hugo 55).
Hugo places Jacques Laffitte, a real banker from French history, into his novel to interact with the
transformed Valjean. Laffitte, a successful banker and politician, rose

Young Woman By Ella Thomas Essay
Another young woman, Ella Thomas, described her pregnancy in a manner that further complicates
interpreting historical pregnancy. While having a miscarriage, Ella describes herself as sick but
does not appear to be bothered by the event. Despite experiencing symptoms such as fatigue, Ella
does not describe her pregnancywithin these terms. If anything, she finds her symptoms a nuisance
(Thomas). Furthermore, her own pregnancy has led her to sympathize with other pregnant women.
She mentions in the diary that if she had sole management of a plantation that pregnant women
would be highly favored...whether black of white (Thomas). The distinction of sole management
here is fascinating because it implies that her husband would not be in charge in this case, and that
if he were in charge he would be less likely to show favor to pregnant women because he personally
could not understand the experience (Thomas).
Eventually, Ella becomes worried for her health when more serious symptoms begin to manifest.
Her symptoms are so severe that she they frighten [her] with fears of sickness and cause her to
call for her doctor. She notes however, that her physician Dr. Edward Eve does nothing to help her
or to alleviate her symptoms. Days later, her pregnancy miscarries, which she colloquially refers to
as an abortion (Thomas). Despite the bodily trauma, Ella s diary entries continues in good spirits.
The actual miscarriage, she notes, did not scare her, it only

support:
The principles underpinning self directed support and how it differs to traditional support is as
follows:
Right to independent living If someone has an impairment they should be able to get the support
they need to live an independent life.
Right to a personal budget If someone needs ongoing support they should be able to decide how the

c. Support plan
Your Social worker will help you do your support plan and then it will be taken to a panel who will
then agree it when they feel it meets your needs.
d. Outcome focused review
An outcome focused review is part of the self directed support process. It is a way of carrying out
reviews that puts the main focus on the results being achieved for the person and his or her family.
The purpose of an outcome focused review is to:
Review progress in using a personal budget to achieve the outcomes set out in the person s support
plan
Share learning about what has been tried and worked or not worked
Identify next steps to achieve these goals
Update the support plan
Make clear if the person s support needs have changed, and
Help the council to check if the person is still eligible for social care.
The outcome focused review process is designed to be used for people who already have a personal
budget. However, it can work effectively for people who have not yet completed the self directed
support process, for example people who have an existing direct payment and those with a
traditional care package.
1.5 Outline the possible barriers to self directed support:
Some possible barriers to self directed support are as follows:
Self directed support is publicised insufficiently.
If the local third sector is not actively involved then practical and peer support for individuals may
be insufficient.
It is not always clear how

Susan Glaspell s Trifles

Dr. Campbell
Between December 1st and 2nd 1900, John Hossack (a farmer from Warren County, Iowa) was
murdered with an ax by his wife while in bed. Inspired by the true story of Margaret Hossack, an
Indianola, Iowa farm wife who was charged with the murder of her husband John. One of the
reporters, Susan Glaspell, decided to write a literary version of this investigation and Trifles came
to be. Susan Glaspell is a feminist writer from Davenport, Iowa who started off writing for a
newspaper called Des Moines Daily News. Later on her literary career she left the journalism
industry and founded a theatrical organization called Provincetown Players on Cape Cod,
Massachusetts. In Trifles, Glaspell covers issues regarding female oppression and patriarchal
domination. Susan Glaspell s one act play still exists as a fascinating hybrid of murder mystery
and social commentary on the oppression of women. When Margaret Hossack was charged with
the murder of her sixty year old husband John, the man she had been married to for thirty three
years, Indianola, Iowa. Killed by two blows to his head with an ax, John Hossack was thought to
be a cold mannered and difficult man to be married to, but he didn t deserve his death. In a cultural
that denied women the right to vote or the ability to serve on juries, the community in which the
Hossacks resided was not terribly different from the rest of the country. A women s role was

The Messenger Techniques
Marcus Zusak s techniques he employs in The Messenger significantly reflects how the reader
views The Messenger. Marcus Zusak firstly uses personification frequently in The Messenger. The
reason it is an important technique is because it gives the reader new ideas. He secondly uses
humor recurrently in the novel. This then gives the reader some enjoyment in the book and not just
always fear and sadness. He thirdly uses a technique that not many authors use in their novels where
he incorporates himself into the novel and that then triggers different ideas in the readers mind on
what is reality and what is a book. The way Zusak writes and what techniques he integrates into the
novel then gives more enjoyment to the reader.
The main idea that Zusak employs is the use of personification and how that increased the
readers enjoyment of the novel. For example, when Zusak uses personification when the deck of
cards is some one s life. For example, each suite in the deck is a different event in their life. in the
novel each suite is a different chapter, the spades in real life mean death and in the novel on the
Spades chapter someone dies. At the Chapter of the Joker which is end of the novel where Ed is
free to do what every he likes. The reason why the chapter is under the joker is because it is usually
the wild card in real life card game where you be any card you like. So, in the final event of the
novel Ed is granted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
for example, at the start of the book on how he uses the bank robbery scene as a humor scene
between the bank robber and Ed. The humor Zusak is your ordinary humor it is your kind of crude

humor into this bank robbery scene. That then gives the reader some fun enjoyment and more
appreciation towards the messenger because of this

What Is The Theme Of Battle Royal By Ralph Ellison
A Not so Royal Battle
There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time
when we fail to protest (Wiesel). Battle Royal, a short story by Ralph Ellison, marks the
resolution of the Civil War and slavery in the United States. The narrator s grandfather, who was
freed from slavery 85 years earlier, had just died. The narrator was chosen to give a speech in an
ensemble of rich whites. In the beginning, it seems as though he s hesitant on reciting his speech,
but he is blindfolded with multiple others and put into a boxing ring where all of them fight. Not to
mention, he was beaten badly.
In addition, he has to fight with Tatlock, but now the blindfold has been taken off by the Whites
once again he is beaten. He and the others are then put around a rug and are told to get the coins or
crumpled up bills, but little did they know that the rug was electrified. So as they raced to get the
money, they were shocked. Then the MC tells him that he... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

I say that this is about the war but it is the war that the narrator is blinded because of these three
main points: the mention of fighting, symbolism, and animal imagery.
The grandfather mentioned in the beginning of the story to keep up the good fight (Ellison 247).
War is the topic, such as fighting for what is right unlike combat war; in which the narrator was
blind to. Racial relations in the United States, even after the end of the Civil War, and the era of
Reconstruction, are described as an ongoing war, and the struggle of African Americans to gain
equality is referred to as the good fight (Brent 2). Gaining equal right as the Whites are what the
African Americans want. Our life is a war (Trimmer 46). Life is war because people are always
fighting for what is right. The narrator thought that everything that happened was actually fine. He
wasn t upset by it at all as long as he got to do his speech. As a matter of fact, he was

The Movie Night And Boys Don t Cry
The novel Night by Elie Wiesel is a book that can be compared to many media or textual forms,
such as novel, short stories, comics, etc., but the most suitable comparative media form was a film .
The film is a visual presentation of fictional or nonfictional story that gets the audiences a sense of
the emotional trauma. The film, which complemented Night by Elie Wieselby the similarity of
themes, but a totally different plot was the film titled, Boys Don t Cry Directed by: Kimberly
Peirce. Both the book and Film have the great essence of to begin with, Dehumanization human
tend to physically, emotionally or sexually torture another human being, followed by, the
instinctual struggle to survive how people have overcome many hurdles of life to get a point or
SURVIVAL , and finally, Denial of self when one try to deny deny or restrain their personality or
they lost their own identity. Therefore, it can be very well agreed to the fact that both the book
Night, and the FILM, Boys Don t Cry share a similar trauma which detriment the human behavior.
To begin with, Night and Boys Don t Cry share theme of dehumanization in many ways. At night,
Violence is key term or the most of the book contains this. For example, publicly threatening people
to maintain control. For instance, members of the resistance in the concentration camps are public

Essay about An Analysis of Fairy Tales
Sagas about princes and princesses, beauty, magic, and love, fairy tales like Snow White and
Cinderella among others have become children s favorite bedtime stories. However, as parents tuck
their sons and daughters in, they fail to realize that there is a much more daunting purpose to these
stories. American writer and poet, Jane Yolen suggests that fairytales indicate life values.
Furthermore, Yolen insists that these tales are thumbprints of history (Yolen 27). Studying fairy
tales in depth, she proves that the functions of myths consist of creating a landscape of allusion
[and] enabling us to understand our own and out culture from inside out (Yolen 18). Yolen confirms
that these stories comment on, the abstract truths of our... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, few realize that there are many communal ideas imbedded in the plots that often go
unrecognized. Fairy tales, more often than not, highlight a multitude of social aspects which might
seem inappropriate for children. Constantly evolving, fairy tales, as indicated by Yolen and Zipes,
illustrate the sexist views of the dominating class, the societal beliefs as they change throughout
history as well as the community s values especially during crisis.
First of all, a rather sexist view of women has emerged from the evolution of a variety fairy tales.
In older versions of many fairy tales, on can see the female dominant, matriarchal societies through
the strong female protagonists. For example, as Yolen reminds, Cinderella until lately has never
been a passive dreamer....The forerunners of the Ash girl have been hardy, active heroines (33).
One of the earlier Cinderellas belonged to a hunting community where most important is the
function of a female. She was at the center of this society and maintained a nurturing element
(194). As time went by Zipes concludes, women lost their supremacy and fairy tales...reinforced
the patriarchal symbolic order based on rigid notions of sexuality and gender (qtd. in Tatar 338).
As Zipes explains, the heroines in these fairy tales remain pathetic , passive, and pale in
comparison to the more active characters , usually the men, when compared to those of the first
generation of fairy

Male Dominance Quotes
The novel mainly deals with the struggle, both in Africa and America , of women to gain
recognition as separate individuals who deserve equal and fair treatment. Male dominance is
the major folkway which operates in both the countries. It takes different forms, not least of
which is sexual aggression. In the very first letter, Celie talks about the abuse she suffers at the
hands of the man she believes for a long time as her father. Mary Agnes is raped by the white
uncle whom she approaches for help to get Sofia out of the prison and Mr Albert also. Physical
violence also seems to be a very common occurrence, even in relationships which seemed loving,

She is also forced to accept Albert s affair with Shug Avery, which goes to an extent of him
sleeping with her under the same roof. In fact fidelity is not viewed as an important quality by
most of the men, although the same behaviour if exhibited by females is cause for comment. I
personally feel that the character of Shug is certainly a symbol of feminism. The woman who
manages to challenge the male dominance the most is no other than Shug, who depicts her
independence by living according to her own principles. It is unsurprising, given the
circumstances that Shug and Celie get involved emotionally . Shug is a powerful and determined
woman who refuses to be stepped on by men. Celie is a victim of male abuse who has closed
herself off from the possibility of trusting men. Another important instance can be of how the
preacher attacks Shug by implication because of her loose lifestyle, but on the other hand men are
allowed to behave as they wish. The main message of the novel is that women must stand up and
fight against the unfair treatment they receive at the hands of

  • 3. Cosmopolitanism In Things Fall Apart By Chinua Achebe Having a new perspective with new ideas can change a person. This is true and can be applied to many different people and events, including a character in Chinua Achebe s novel Things Fall Apart. In the novel missionaries come to a tribe, Umuofia, and convert some of their people. However, a convert by the name of Enoch creates tension and unrest between the tribe and the missionaries. If this character were to be more cosmopolitan, one who is familiar and accepts other cultures and ideas, and followed ideas presented in Kwame Anthony Appiahs Cosmopolitanismhis actions would have been vastly different. When one applies Appiah s cosmopolitan ideas, in Cosmopolitanism to the character of Enoch in Achebe s Things Fall Apart, the character of Enoch changes to become an individual of more respect, which in turn would prevent the unrest between the missionaries and the Umuofia people in Things Fall Apart. Things Fall Apart exhibits many instances in which cosmopolitan ideas such as diversity in a society, can apply. One of these instances is when people of Umuofia leave the tribe to become Christians and join the missionaries, particularly Enoch. Enoch lived in Umuofia and followed their culture, but when the missionaries arrived he was one of the few who quickly followed the word of Christ. In Cosmopolitanism Appiah claims, If we want to preserve a wide range of human conditions because it allows free people the best chance to make their own lives, there is no place for the ... Aggregate demand (AD) is the total demand for final goods and services in the economy (Y) at a given time and price level. Also it is the amount of goods and services that will be purchased at all possible price levels in the economy. This is called the demand for the Gross Domestic Product of a country when inventory levels are static. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Confidence in future sales patterns and government incentive and regulations will also affect the investment levels. Another injection in the economy is the multiplier effect of the investment. In the economy, the money invested today will have a greater impact such as increasing the levels of output in the future. This is because investment rises the capital stock. With an evolution in technology, the machineries help production become faster and cheaper, thus contributing greatly to increasing the output in long term. * The Price Level and Net Exports: The Exchange Rate Effect Exports represent an injection into the circular flow of income, in that the money paid for goods and services sold abroad enters the domestic flow of income. Imports mean that there is an outflow of money, and exports minus imports gives the total movement of funds known as net exports. There are a number of reasons why the value of net exports might change. If the exchange rate increases in value against other currencies, imports become cheaper and exports more expensive on world markets. Over time, people respond to these relative price movements and the demand for exports falls and the demand for imports rises. A stronger currency will worsen net exports, whereas a weaker currency will improve the figure. Also, for example if a fall in the UK price level causes UK interest rates to fall, the real exchange rate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My communities have had an influence on who I have become as a person and continue to influence me on a daily basis. As I reflect back on the past twenty years, the communitythat has had the most impact on me is my family. Now, everyone has their own definition of family. So, when I say the word family, I am referring to my mom and dad. These two people have had the most influence on my life. From the very beginning, I began to shape the person I am based on the people my parents are. I can remember spending many hours with my dad in his shop, watching him diagnose mechanical problems. Then I would watch as he took apart a machine piece by piece, only to reassemble it exactly the same way once the problem at hand was resolved. As the years progressed, I became closer with my mom, spending the majority of my time with her. I would help her around the house with everyday chores. I can remember the joy I experienced when I was able to go to work with mom. I would watch in awe at the number of tasks my mother was responsible for at one time. How she would swiftly move from one task to another, handling the many interruptions, and balancing the numerous new tasks placed on her desk each day. Spending much of my time with ... It depicts the actions that George Washington and his men took leading up to the renowned battle. Washington s use of profanity in the film, the weather during the march to Trenton, and the flag flown by the American army are just a few. George Washington s dialogue in The Crossing is the least accurate element of the film. Washington s leadership style was the direct opposite. Nearly thirty years before the crossing of the Delaware, Washington made clear how he felt about profanity in his Rules of Civility. His twenty second rule stated: Use no reproachful language against anyone, neither curse, nor revile. He takes this opportunity to inform them of his great displeasure at such practices and assures them that if they do not leave them off, they shall be severely punished. The officers are desired, if they hear any man swear or make use of an oath or execration, to order the offender twenty five lashes immediately, without court martial. Religion was more important than politics in the failure of King and Parliament to reach a settlement. 1646 1649 , Assess the validity of this statement. In January 1649, King Charles I was executed after being charged with high treason due to political and religious reasons, some of which contributed to his refusal in accepting the peace settlements given to him by Parliament. Charles refusal to compromise was supported by the division that had emerged within Parliament on how to fight the civil war between the Political Presbyterians and Political Independents. The main factors of the failure to reach a settlement were religion, politics, Charles intransigence, the New Model Army and the emergence of radical ideas; all of which ... Still Ireton spoke for the grandees which did include Cromwell and insisted that the franchise should be restricted to those with a permanent fixed interest in the kingdom as Seel 2 says, and that the vote should go to those who possessed property or there would otherwise be a disturbance to a good constitution of the kingdom . This was seen as important because the views of the religious radicals made settlements more difficult and furthermore increased the tension of division among those in the army and in parliament. The politicisation of the New Model Army also played a significant role in the failure to reach a settlement in the years 1646 to 1649 between Charles and Parliament. What made the army politicised was the concerns of their wages of ВЈ3 million in arrears and the possibility of being faced with the charges of committing offences from the First Civil War, as Parliament had not passed an indemnity act. The army presented Charles with the Heads of The Proposals in 1647, which links back to religious division in parliament, , under Cromwell and Ireton s influence, putting forward more stricter terms such as religious toleration was to be more effective to a wider degree and that the army was to be controlled by parliament for only ten years instead of twenty, making the army seem like a ... I will analyze the author s thesis, the reasons why the encomienda system was a better choice for the Crown, and I will disagree with Yeager s viewpoint that it is not a curious option for the Crown to choose over the alternative of enslavement. Encomienda was a system in which the Spaniards took over land, forced the natives to work for them and in return the encomenderos provided the native Indians with protection. I will also agree with the author s views of the Crown confiscating property from the encomenderos. In Timothy J. Yeager s article, he discusses why the Crown decided to implement a governmental structure of the encomienda rather than have the natives become their slaves. The encomienda would provide slightly more freedom to the natives, meaning they could... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the conquistadors came and took the land they were bound by the Crown to collect taxes in the form of resources. Although the Crown did not want to enslave the natives they still needed a system of forced labor so they chose encomienda, in return they provided protection to the natives of the land they took over. The Crown considered this a fair exchange yet they required the natives to work and practice the catholic religion while under the protection of the encomenderos. The author speaks about the process of the decisions the Crown needed to make to gain a stronghold hold of each region and in doing so, the crown came up with a three tier system to not allow any encomendero to gain too much wealth and power. These restrictions were called inheritance, trading, and relocation. Inheritance restrictions did not allow land to be passed down to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Both are important because it is responsible for gluconeogenesis and fructose metabolism. Gluconeogenesis is the metabolic pathway that results in the production of glucose from non carbohydrate carbon substrates or the opposite of Glycolysis (Figure 1). In simple terms, a mutation on Fructose 1, 6 biphosphate would both hinder the production of pyruvate and the production of glucose. Fructose Intolerance is also referred to as Fructose 1 Phosphate Aldolase Deficiency. The modified enzymevaries in its original function and structure that derived from a restricted genetic mutation (Cox, O Donnell, Camilleri, and Burghes). Aldolase B is classified as a Lyase, or an enzyme that catalyzes the breaking of various bonds means other than hydrolysis and oxidation. Lyase often forms a double bond or a new ring structure. Fructose Intolerance is caused by mutations in the aldolase B gene which is expressed in the liver (Malay, Allen, and Tolan). Its molecular compound is shown in Figure 2 and has two active site residues, Lysine and Glutamate, as well as several charged residues. The functional assignment is complex because of the proximity of the many charged amino acids found at the active site. He secondly uses humor recurrently in the novel. This then gives the reader some enjoyment in the book and not just always fear and sadness. He thirdly uses a technique that not many authors use in their novels where he incorporates himself into the novel and that then triggers different ideas in the readers mind on what is reality and what is a book. The way Zusak writes and what techniques he integrates into the novel then gives more enjoyment to the reader. The main idea that Zusak employs is the use of personification and how that increased the readers enjoyment of the novel. For example, when Zusak uses personification when the deck of cards is some one s life. For example, each suite in the deck is a different event in their life. in the novel each suite is a different chapter, the spades in real life mean death and in the novel on the Spades chapter someone dies. At the Chapter of the Joker which is end of the novel where Ed is free to do what every he likes. Battle Royal, a short story by Ralph Ellison, marks the resolution of the Civil War and slavery in the United States. The narrator s grandfather, who was freed from slavery 85 years earlier, had just died. The narrator was chosen to give a speech in an ensemble of rich whites. In the beginning, it seems as though he s hesitant on reciting his speech, but he is blindfolded with multiple others and put into a boxing ring where all of them fight. • 55. Essay about An Analysis of Fairy Tales Sagas about princes and princesses, beauty, magic, and love, fairy tales like Snow White and Cinderella among others have become children s favorite bedtime stories. However, as parents tuck their sons and daughters in, they fail to realize that there is a much more daunting purpose to these stories. American writer and poet, Jane Yolen suggests that fairytales indicate life values. Furthermore, Yolen insists that these tales are thumbprints of history (Yolen 27). Studying fairy tales in depth, she proves that the functions of myths consist of creating a landscape of allusion [and] enabling us to understand our own and out culture from inside out (Yolen 18). Yolen confirms that these stories comment on, the abstract truths of our... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, few realize that there are many communal ideas imbedded in the plots that often go unrecognized. Fairy tales, more often than not, highlight a multitude of social aspects which might seem inappropriate for children. Constantly evolving, fairy tales, as indicated by Yolen and Zipes, illustrate the sexist views of the dominating class, the societal beliefs as they change throughout history as well as the community s values especially during crisis. First of all, a rather sexist view of women has emerged from the evolution of a variety fairy tales. In older versions of many fairy tales, on can see the female dominant, matriarchal societies through the strong female protagonists. For example, as Yolen reminds, Cinderella until lately has never been a passive dreamer....The forerunners of the Ash girl have been hardy, active heroines (33). One of the earlier Cinderellas belonged to a hunting community where most important is the function of a female. She was at the center of this society and maintained a nurturing element (194). As time went by Zipes concludes, women lost their supremacy and fairy tales...reinforced the patriarchal symbolic order based on rigid notions of sexuality and gender (qtd. in Tatar 338). As Zipes explains, the heroines in these fairy tales remain pathetic , passive, and pale in comparison to the more active characters , usually the men, when compared to those of the first generation of fairy ... • 57. Male Dominance Quotes The novel mainly deals with the struggle, both in Africa and America , of women to gain recognition as separate individuals who deserve equal and fair treatment. Male dominance is the major folkway which operates in both the countries. It takes different forms, not least of which is sexual aggression. In the very first letter, Celie talks about the abuse she suffers at the hands of the man she believes for a long time as her father. Mary Agnes is raped by the white uncle whom she approaches for help to get Sofia out of the prison and Mr Albert also. Physical violence also seems to be a very common occurrence, even in relationships which seemed loving, like that between Harpo and his wife Sofia. He beats her because it is a respectable thing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She is also forced to accept Albert s affair with Shug Avery, which goes to an extent of him sleeping with her under the same roof. In fact fidelity is not viewed as an important quality by most of the men, although the same behaviour if exhibited by females is cause for comment. I personally feel that the character of Shug is certainly a symbol of feminism. The woman who manages to challenge the male dominance the most is no other than Shug, who depicts her independence by living according to her own principles. It is unsurprising, given the circumstances that Shug and Celie get involved emotionally . Shug is a powerful and determined woman who refuses to be stepped on by men. Celie is a victim of male abuse who has closed herself off from the possibility of trusting men. Another important instance can be of how the preacher attacks Shug by implication because of her loose lifestyle, but on the other hand men are allowed to behave as they wish. The main message of the novel is that women must stand up and fight against the unfair treatment they receive at the hands of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
