International Accounting Standards Board s Preferred...
Introduction
International Accounting Standards Committee (IASC, 2003) define an asset as a resource controlled
by the entity as a result of past events and from which future economic benefits are expected to flow
to the entity. In a business model assets act as inputs, either directly (plant, machinery, inventory) or
indirectly (goodwill, patents, investment property) to provide products and services to the customer.
As assets are expected to generate future benefits, the income generated by these assets is reported
under the Income Statement while their value is reported in the Balance Sheet to deduce the value of
the said business.
The focus of this report is the International Accounting Standards Board s preferred measurement

an exit price) (IFRS13). Fair value is the market value of a firm s assets and ignores any special
benefits of the assets to the business resulting from competencies such as man management skills as
well as any transaction costs (Hitz, 2007). Therefore a fair value measurement is market based rather
than entity specific and it represents unbiased measurements that are consistent from period to period
and across entities (Penman, S. H., 2007). This helps to reinforce consistency and comparability
across various reporting entities. Fair Value measurements also have the property of objectivity as it is
non entity specific and reflects the market s valuation as compared to entity specific measurements
which are subject to managerial judgments (Whittington, 2010).
Entity specific measurements account for intangibles such as business competencies and managerial
know how, which gets reflected in the financial statements irrespective of whether they have been
demonstrated or not. Using fair value limits today s profit recognition to amounts market participants
would assess, and leaves to the future the recognition of profit associated with management skill and
synergies (Barth, 2010).
Hence we can conclude that market valuations incorporate market expectations regarding future cash
flows in an efficient and unbiased manner (Hitz, 2007). It can also be argued that fair value

The Concept Of Sustainable Development
The concept of sustainable development has been at the centre of many big debates of late including
world conferences on development and developmental planners. It is gaining impetus as people get
more informed on the current effects of climate change and the looming devastating effects of the
same on future generations increasing the unpredictability of the future. At the core of sustainable
development is the fragile condition of balancing between protection as well as maintenance of the
productivity of the environment and the quest for economic growth. This is a fundamental function of
environmental politics. The concept of sustainable development makes us believe that it is possible to
realize economic prosperity and protect the environment at the same time (Carter, 2007).
Although tradeoff may be made between ecological sustainability and fulfilment of basic human needs
(Lélé, 1991), this should not be an encouraged practice because human beings will always give
preference to their needs over environmental protection no matter how trivial they may be. The
ultimate remedy for sustainable development therefore lies with practical good governance and
political will locally, nationally and globally.
The origin and prominence of the concept sustainable development can be traced back to the 1980
IUCN s World Conservation Strategy(WCS) which aimed at achieving sustainable development
through conservation of living resources (Lélé, 1991). In his criticism of the world

Abortion And The Social Aspects Of Abortion
INTRODUCTION
It is estimated almost half of pregnancies in Australia are unplanned . Unexpected pregnancies happen
for various individual, social, economic and political reasons . The World Health Organisation (WHO)
approximates one in three women in Australia will have an abortion procedure in their life . Abortion
data is only gathered by South Australia, Western Australia and the Northern Territory. However,
South Australia is the only state to publish data and report findings annually. Abortion is a heavy topic
which has the nation spilt into two groups; pro life or pro choice. Pro life is in favour of the foetus and
they believe that by killing the foetus it is equivalent to murder. Pro choice is for abortion, as they
believe that the woman has the choice to do what she wants with her body. This report will cover how
religion deals with abortion and how it can clash with modern ethnicity, abortion safety, the
repercussions of abortion and the social aspects of abortion.
RELIGION VS ETHNICITY
Religious communities have had a convoluted history in regards to abortion. The Catholic Church of
Australia states the direct and voluntary killing of an unborn is gravely immoral. No reason, however
serious or tragic, can ever justify the deliberate killing of an innocent human being . Abortion is not
explicitly forbidden within the Bible; as neither the Old nor New Testament condemns it. As a social
norm, however, Catholic s believe that life starts at conception via

Jessica Rabbit Research Paper
Heidi Klum, the queen of Halloween transformations nailed it once again as she slayed the spooky
season with the iconic bombshell Jessica Rabbit. The 42 year old star went out of her way for her
annual costume party in New York City. According to Buzz Feed, the German model sought help from
Mike Marino s Prosthetic Renaissance to create her phenomenal look with makeup and prosthetics.
She told InStyle that it took her 10 hours to obtain her comic strip character and underwent drastic

The Confocal Microscopy And Microscopy
Abstract:
First; a brief introduction about the confocal microscopy, critical aspects of confocal Microscopy, and
the basic parts of the confocal microscope. It will follow by more information about fluorescence
microscopy which is used for study fixed and living cells because of its versatility, specificity, and
high sensitivity.
Introduction:
The Confocal Microscope is a type of microscope that is being developed for obtaining high
resolution images and 3D reconstruction. The images from the confocal are far better then other
microscopes; however, not quite as good as fluorescent microscopes. The confocal shows the most
fine details as possible in 3D; the confocal microscopy offers several advantages over conventional
wide field optical microscopy, including the ability to control depth of field, elimination or reduction
of background information away from the focal plane (that leads to image degradation), and the
capacity to collect serial optical sections from thick specimens [1]. The most significant value about
the confocal microscope is the spatial filtering techniques that terminate the glare and focus the
substance into the view. As it has been stated, there has been a tremendous explosion in the popularity
of confocal microscopy in recent years, due in part to the relative the ease with which extremely high
quality images can be obtained from specimens prepared for conventional fluorescence microscopy,
and the growing number of applications in cell biology that

PTSD And Its Impact On My Life
If there s one event that has made a huge impact in my life it would have to be a roll over car accident
that my parents, aunt, and I were when I was in sixth grade. This car accident has impacted me
negatively by leaving me with PTSD and positively by figuring out what career I am pursuing.
This car accident led me to have PTSD, which stands for post traumatic stress disorder. It is a disorder
that follows a traumatic event. It made me into who I am today because even though it happened nine
years ago I still feel the effects as if it happened yesterday. For example, when my friend s dad was
also in a bad car accident and I went with them to see the car I had an anxiety attack because I had
flashbacks. I went months with nightmares and whenever I saw something that reminded me of that
day I would shut down. PTSD made something that people do so effortlessly into something
absolutely terrifying for me which is driving. I still can t drive in big cities like Sioux City ... Show

I saw how the paramedics worked quickly and efficiently to take care of my unconscious and bleeding
dad, shocked mom, and my aunt who was ejected even while wearing a seatbelt to the hospital. Even
though that sounds gruesome it was because of this that I have always wanted to pursue a career in the
medical field and specifically a paramedic. It shaped me into who I am today because it makes me
want to be able to help people when tragedy strikes or whenever they are in need just like those
paramedics helped my family. I want to be able to repay all that was done for my family and I by
pursuing this job. Knowing that I can make a difference in people s life is what drives me through this
tough career. Those paramedics acted quickly and very sufficiently by knowing what to do without
hesitation and that dedication is what motivates me to continue on reading that extra chapter to be

Food Chemistry Focuses on the Production of Processed Food
Food chemistry is a newer field of chemistry that focuses on the production processes of food. There
are various steps in the process, such as production, processing, storage and handling, as well as their
chemical structures.1 This is important information to know especially because it s the study of what
we consume on a daily basis for nourishment. Not only are there federal regulations that must be met,
but individuals are also seeking information past these regulatory requirements to investigate and see
what they are putting into their bodies. Food chemistry allows for these things to occur. One aspect of
food chemistry that is an ongoing area of research is food aroma. There are different techniques
available for identification of aroma compounds, and different techniques are also used for
quantification of these compounds. One technique used is dynamic headspace gas chromatography
(DHGC), in which a sample is analyzed through a method that vaporizes and separates its components
and can be coupled with a mass spectrometer. The mass spectrometer can further separate the
components by its mass and charge and results can be displayed and analyzed. This paper will focus
on why dynamic headspace gas chromatography and mass spectrometry are best served for use in the
quantification of aroma compounds. Aroma compounds are simply the components responsible for
odors in food. The aroma of a food does not come from one particular component, but comes from the
combination

in nominal terms according to IMF data. IMF projected Taiwan s economy to rank 21th on a
purchasing power basis and 22rd in nominal terms in 2016. Its economy is well developed and it s
growing at a stable rate. Since 1992, Taiwan s GDP growth has an average 4.5%. Its GDP per capita
raised from $9,116 in 1992 to $19,762 in 2012. Taiwan has experienced rapid expansion in
international trade. In 1992, Taiwan s total trade was over $180 billion and represented 82% of GDP.
In 2012, Taiwan s trade was over $650 billion and represented 140% of GDP. In 2012, over 77% of
Taiwan imports were of agricultural goods and raw materials due to limited arable land and natural
resources. While only around 1% of exports were from agricultural goods, the rest 99% of exports
were from industrial sector (Meltzer, 2014). Therefore, agricultural goods are highly demanded in
Taiwan.
Politically, Taiwan was under the control of the Kuomingtang(KMT) after world war II.
Kuomingtang(KMT) is the Nationalist Party which ruled both mainland China and Taiwan.
After defeat by Communist party in the Chinese Civil War, Kuomingtang(KMT) retreat to Taiwan in

the jade flute. A memory long lost to time drifted back to him. During a ritualistic nightly excursion

Between my father and him, I must choose my father.
That s tragic, said Yuan. The man reached out and then drew his hand back as if a sparked jumped

Turning away, Jingyan said, Perhaps, he no longer cares.
After a stretch of silence, Yuan said, May I take you somewhere, Your Highness?
In the expanse of dead trees and snow in front of them, a memorial stone was half visible under the
arch of a large, fallen branch. Both men landed on the ground from their flight over the walls of the
Court of Eternity. Once stable on the ground, Jingyan approached and brushed the layer of fallen snow

Yuan nodded.
Cold seeped from the foot of snow and stone ground beneath him, biting through the thick layers of

The Riddle Of Latin America Chapter Summary
Cities and towns in Latin America capture the remnants of the past. They hold stories of the people
that once inhabited such places and give a sense of lastingness. In chapter 6 of The Riddle of Latin
America, Lane describes cities having divisions called barrios that were distinctively characterized by
a mixture of people that advocated the colonial city life. There was a mixture of indigenous people
who were of lower class and African Americans who were the slaves of the elitist (113). The epitome
of colonial city transcended a civilized life filled with educational units, theaters, buildings for legal
systems, and, monumental churches religious causalities. Cities held a prestige, often times the
capitals held the wealthiest and most elite (priests, people in power) of the population. Cities had
around 100,000 citizens whereas towns were less dense.
The elite lived in two story houses that were in close proximity to the plaza traza. Everything in the
city was regulated: curfews, water supplies, even to what the people could wear in public. ... Show

beverages were a hit. The elite felt aversion towards native foods (128). They did not want to feel

potato, vanilla, and cocoa were sent across the sea. The potato was cultivated in certain areas like
Ireland where it thrived the best. Indigenous people also warmed up to the imported crops such as
plantains and sugarcane. Food wasn t the only item that was reciprocated. Disease spread rapidly due
to unhygienic routines, malnutrition, and unhealthy sanitation practices: having scat all over streets

Driving Fast Essay
What is Driving Faster US Economic Growth? According to the latest live Q4 real GDP growth
forecast courtesy of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, the US economy is expected to expand
+3.3% during the current quarter. Should this expectation prevail, then the economy will have enjoyed
three successive quarters of GDP growth in excess of 3%, the first occurrence since 2004 H2 and 2005
Q1. The biggest difference between the aforementioned period and the current environment is the
underlying strength of real final sales. Currently, real final sales are averaging +2.8% over the past
three quarters, while this metric was a more robust +3.6% during the 2004 H2 and 2005 Q1 period.

Meanwhile, the Conference Board s measure of consumer confidence recently reached its highest
level since December 2000, which, incidentally, coincided with the peak of the 1991 2000 economic
expansion. Furthermore, much of the improvement is attributable to current conditions versus the
anticipated backdrop six months hence. Currently, perceptions about abundant job availability have
reached their highest levels since the summer of 2001. Historically, there has been a close correlation
between wage inflation and perceptions of job availability. There is, however, a disconnection
between the two during the current cycle, because wage inflation still appears reluctant to breach +3%.
Despite the apparent lack of upward pressure on nominal wages, consumer confidence has been rising.
This dichotomy is probably explained by the low level of the so called misery index (the summation
of consumer price inflation and the unemployment rate). Moreover, real wage gains have been
positive due to the persistence of low inflation and this probably explains why, despite modest
nominal wage gains, consumers feel more upbeat. This situation could, however, change if inflation
rises, thereby pushing inflation adjusted changes in labour compensation into negative territory.
Upbeat US Consumers Appear to Ignore Political Backdrop The 2016 Presidential Election

If Memantine Interferes With Alpha Tocopherol
Although this study was well done, it leaves some unanswered questions. The biggest question is if
memantine interferes with alpha tocopherol. While this study discovered that there is a connection
between the two, it did not uncover what that connection was. More research should be conducted to
determine the relationship between alpha tocopherol and memantine. Next, the vitamin E was taken
orally via a liquid filled capsule. According to a study by Dr. Dan Engle published in 2009,
compressed pill form of vitamins can have a poor absorption rate. The average person may not be
aware of this research, and the study could have explained why this type of tablet was chosen. With
that being said, a study could be conducted comparing the different between soft gel tablets and oil to
determine which form of vitamin E would give the highest absorption rate. Additionally, ninety seven
percent of the participants were male, which means that only three percent of the participants were
female. Because the focus was a male population, the question of whether vitamin E would affect
females the same way is not supported. Although males and females are similar, they are also very
different, and with that being said, a study that focuses on one sex cannot say that it is true for both
sexes without scientific evidence. Lastly, because the Department of Veterans Affairs Cooperative
Studies organized the study, all the participants were veterans. These veterans could have been

Limited Liability
Discussion Assignment
You own and operate a small store. Currently, you are a single proprietor.
What kinds of risks and liabilities are you facing?
When a business is run as a single proprietor means that the owner is solely responsible and liable for
the actions of the company. The risk and the liability are that the personal assets such as house, car,
land, or bank savings are also part of the business. There is no legal separation of the assets between
the business and the owner of the business. For example, if the single proprietor defaults on a bank
loan or there is an accident on one of the employees, the owner is the sole responsible. The bank can
seize and liquidate the personal assets for the debts. In addition, the employee who suffered injury for
in a work related accident can sue and held the owner liable. The sole proprietor risks all the personal
assets if there is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, this risk can be addressed by incorporating the business. There are various options of
incorporation depending on the type of business and goals. The most common are the Limited
Liability Company (LLC), Limited Partnership (LP), Limited Liability Partnership (LLP), or
Nonprofit Corporation.
When the sole proprietor incorporates, it gives advantages and disadvantages. The advantage is that
the owner can sales shares to investors and raise capital. Moreover, with an incorporated business the
owner and the employees can benefit from health insurance, workers compensation, insurance against
accidents, etc. Another advantage of incorporating the business is that it guarantees the safety of the
personal assets. For example, if there is an accident or the business defaults on the bank loan, only the
business will be liable. The personal assets such as your house or car will not be

Environmental Plans And Wildlife Management Programs
As discussed in previous projects, an airport is a significant element in any community. This element
has a direct and an indirect impact on the community. With the establishment of an airport, many
businesses start to facilitate the construction works. After operating the airport, many businesses start
to facilitate the airport s operations. In addition, the airport itself hires staff to run the business.
Moreover, airports contribute to the surrounding communities. Thus, the existing of an airport might
be harmful to the environment and the wildlife around the airport. Therefore, many airport authorities
utilize environmental plans and wildlife management programs. On the other hand, wildlife is a
hazard for airports in some cases. For the FAA, wildlife strikes is one of the increasing issues in
airports safety (Greenberger, 2013). From 1988 till 2012, more than 219 people were killed and more
than 200 aircrafts were destroyed (Greenberger, 2013). Therefore, wildlife management plans are
beneficial for wildlife and the airport operations. In other words, wildlife plans mitigate the risks for
wildlife around airfields and mitigate the wildlife of concern risk for airplanes. In 2012 during the
approach of Air Force Two at Santa Barbra Airport in California, a bird stroked the airplane. Another
bird strike happened during the landing of an Airbus 300 at Tulsa International airport, which caused
damaged to the wing and engine that cost about $ 6 millions (Greenberger,

Mahatma Gandhi s Indiana Independence Movement
Though the two never met in person, it s no secret that Martin Luther King Jr drew much inspiration
from Mahatmas Gandhi and his teaching on non violence and peaceful protest. He described the
concepts of satyagraha as profoundly significant to him. Satyagraha, a term though of and developed
my Gandhi during the Indiana Independence Movement, literally translates to truth insistence and,
according to Gandhi, meant love force or soul force (Gandhi qtd. In Webel 513). The major principles
of the concept included nonviolence (or, ahimsa), truth, chastity (both sexual chastity was well a
chastity from other sensual desires ), nonstealing, body and bread labor, control of appetites,
fearlessness, respect for all religions, economic strategy, and elimination of the caste system (Webel
513).
Gandhi believed that in order to uphold these rules, he and his followers must have a faith in God,
believe in truth and nonviolence, lead chaste lives free of alcohol or substances, and be willing to die
or lose all possessions, be willing to go to jail and, one imprisoned, obey jail rules (unless they are
abusive to a prisoner s self respect), and must harbor no anger (Webel 513). Follower of ... Show more

African American Literature Reflection Paper
Before starting this class, African American Literature, I wasn t too sure what to expect. I had never
taken an AFAS class before but I had heard great things from my friends so I decided to take one.
Professor Carter was an amazing professor and always sounded to extremely passionate and excited
during class which I found very admirable. The way he spoke about the different aspects of the class
and the different pieces of writing was very intriguing and always held my attention in class. We read
a variety of African American literature in this class which included novels, poems, and short stories
and each and every one of them related perfectly to what we were talking about during that time in
class. We studied different authors and their writing styles, as well as different eras including the
Harlem Renaissance.
The thing that set this class apart from the rest was the use of multimedia in the class. This included
the weekly voice threads, the live videos each class period, and the multimedia projects throughout the
semester. This was my favorite part of the class. I loved how the professor didn t just want us to
express our opinions of the literature in projects, but he wanted us to express our opinions in the most
creative ways. We were assigned weekly voice threads which allowed us to answer several questions
based off of our own opinions of the readings we read for class. Personally, I loved this because I felt
like I could proudly share what I felt about the reading

Effects Of Colonization In Nigeria
What happened in the country during colonization?
The British empire began invading Nigeria, by creating conflicts between diverse ethnic groups to
intentionally break down the group into insignificant clusters that had little, or no impact on the
country s legislative branch. The implemented strategy is known as the divide and rule policy, which
assisted to prevent any united opposition against Britain. Later, the British government gained control
over the Royal Niger Company s territories and eventually, Northern Nigeria was under the Britain
protectorate. By 1901, Nigeria was completely under the British power which accompanied many
changes to the country. Education, language, and religion were assimilated to fit the desires of the
British empire. English became one of the major languages in the country and Christianity spread
rapidly; although some Islamic scholars resisted the religion. During the colonization of Nigeria, a
new monetary and transportation system was developed and two tiers of government evolved; central
and local. The new monetary system consisted of coins and notes rather than trading goods, and the
local Nigerians were instructed to build a railway across the country which made the transportation of
raw materials more efficient and cheaper. The Central government was in authority of governor
general, and local government was based on the policy directed by the colonies to ensure that
indigenous leaders were educated on the new policies, that were

The Vietnam War and Events Leading up to the War Essay
The Vietnam War has roots from ancient Vietnam s rule by colonial and imperial powers. In 1407
China ruled ancient Vietnam, then in late 1800s France took control and established Indochina. In the
late 1800s, Nationalist movements began. They wanted more self governance and less French rule.
The main movements were held by the communist leader Ho Chi Minh, the founder of the militant
nationalist organization the Viet Minh. During WWII when France was occupied by Nazi Germany, it
lost its hold in Vietnam, and Japan took control of Vietnam. The Viet Minh resisted the Japanese and
extended its power throughout Vietnam. When the Japanese surrendered at the end of WWII, Ho Chi
Minh took the capital of Hanoi and declared Vietnam an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The new leader ended up being just as corrupt and ineffective. JFK s, successor Lyndon B. Johnson,
promised to fulfill JFK s commitments and keep the USA fighting in Vietnam to a minimum. After
North Vietnamese forces allegedly attacked US Navy ships in the Gulf of Tonkin in 1964, Johnson
began to send troops to Vietnam. After Johnson s Americanization of the war, there were nearly
400,000 US troops in Vietnam by the end of 1966. As the United States became increasingly caught
up in Vietnam, it followed the strategy of wearing away at the communist forces, attempting to bury
them under a storm of casualties, however, the Viet Cong s guerilla tactics, such as booby traps and
mines, demoralized the USA troops, leading to the use of unconventional weapons like napalm and the
Agent Orange. Napalm is a very flammable gel that burns the skin and rapidly deoxygenates available
air, causing suffocation. Agent Orange is a herbicide defoliant. A defoliant is a chemical sprayed on
plants to cause its leaves to fall off. Agent Orange s primary objective was to reduce the dense jungle
undergrowth to prevent the Communist forces from using it as cover. The secondary objective was to
drive civilians into Southern Vietnam controlled areas. About 4.8 million people were exposed to
Agent Orange, resulting in about 400,000 deaths and 500,000 children born with birth defects.

English 12 3a Evolution of Fire Fighting
Firefighting is a dangerous job. It takes lots of courage to have to endure the harsh conditions of a
structural or rural fire, all while trying to save someone s life. Fire fighters put their life on the line to
save the environment, people, and animals. With all of the harsh conditions involving putting out a
fire, there is lots of equipment that a firefighter must use to protect themselves such as strategies that
are used in the time of emergencies, technology that is used to help prevent fires as well as technology
used in a fire, and the personal protective gear that fire fighters use. Personal protective equipment,
Technology and knowledge in prevention of fires are all being updated and improved each day, which
is evidence of how the firefighting industry has evolved throughout time.
Firefighting is a job that has been around since earliest times of urban development. There has always
been someone in the town that was brave enough to try and put out a fire, however the category of
firefighting as a job/career has only been around since the late 1800 s. The brave men who would put
their life on the line in the early stages of firefighting had very little equipment to protect them as well
as no real strategies or knowledge of how a fire is needed to be prevented as well as how a fire needs
to be put out. As time went on, there began to be more technology which helps in the innovation of the

China s Economic Development Through Experiments With...
Deng Xiaoping was one the the Chinese Communist Party leaders. His goal for China was to get it
back on the right path, which was economic development within the country. China s economic
development has abruptly stopped under the leadership of Mao Zedong. Deng Xiaoping said practice
is the sole criterion of truth . His mindset was that by practicing and experimenting with different
forms of production and ideas for entrepreneurship, China would be successful in finding their way
back to economic development. This started China s path to economic development through
experiments with capitalist methods of production. Thee Four Modernizations were goals that were set
by Shou Enlai first, in 1963, but they were later enacted by Deng Xiaoping in 1978. These goals were
set in order to strengthen the fields of agriculture, industry, national defense, and science and
technology in China. They were enacted in hope of saving China s economy, following the death of
Mao Zedong. These reforms stressed economic self reliance. They wanted China to have a sense of
stability in their economy, while being independent at the same time. The Four Modernizations were
designed to make China an economic power by the early 21st century. China was, in fact, able to hurry
along their economic development with the help of these reforms. China used foreign investment, a
more open market, access to advanced technologies and management experience. Deng was basically
making all of the decisions for

Effects Of Homeschooling
Parental involvement has been defined in many different ways among the researchers. Generally, it is
the time parents spend participating in activities as such as volunteering at the schools, knowing the
teachers, going to PTA meetings, and helping with school related activities at the home. ( Hill Taylor
2004) One researcher focused on the amount of time spent volunteering and being involved at school.
(Griffith 1996) and other researchers expanded the definition to include homework help and outside
academic events. (Barwegen, et al)
Another form of parental involvement (in this case, maybe more extreme) is homeschooling.
Homeschooling is an interesting intersection of parent involvement and educating method. It is where

Some reasons for parents become involved in schooling are the beliefs that they should be involved,
that their help is wanted, and also it will affect their student s outcome. (Hoover Dempsey, et al)
Another motivator for parental involvement is a specific invitation from their students for help. In one
study, this was found to one of the main motivators along with parental efficacy and parent networks.
(Ice and Hoover Dempsey) Parental efficacy is a personal belief that the parents are able to help their
student succeed.(Green and Hoover Dempsey) Parents want to be active roles in their students
education, find ways that they are capable to help, and find time to help at school or through
homeschooling.(Green and Hoover Dempsey, 2007)
Parental involvement is generally higher in traditional school during younger years, and by middle and
high school, it decreases. Parents, it is thought, slowly begin to be involved more and more because of
the feeling of unqualified to help with the higher level homework.(Epstein and Sanders) It is also
because as the children s shift into adolescence, they struggle for more autonomy from their parents.
(Eccles Harold, 1996)
This decrease of parental involvement has been proven to the increase of the time student spend doing
homework.(Hill and Taylor) In one study, parents of middle and high school students have said that
they felt

Chapter 13 of Lord of the Flies
Chapter 13:
Adventure Home
The boys have stayed on this island for almost 3 months with no adults at all. Ralph was sitting on a
burnt tree trunk thinking while the navy officer was waiting for the cruise ship to come close to the
island. The rest were standing together half naked on the beach and in the sun.
For a moment, Ralph felt the tears well up his eyes as a thought crossed his mind about the time he
spent with the boys on the island. 0Whenever Ralph looked at Jack and the boys with painted faces
and long hair, it reminded him of his loyal friend named Piggy who was killed many days ago. He
couldn t believe things would have gone this far and the boys have fallen within a few months, Ralph
also blamed himself for not being a good ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If you have anything to tell me, you can tell me tomorrow because I need to go to my room and have a
rest now. said Ralph.
Jack nodded and he went outside straight to the deck of the cruise ship. Ralph went back to his room,
his face was in pain from the bunch and slept with the littluns. After about half an hour later, someone
rushed into the room like a mad cow and shouted for help.
Who was that!!?? cried Percival as he was half awake.
Ralph stood up straight from his bed as if he was about to sprint. He looked at the stranger at who
rushed in and he saw Eric catching his breath.
What s wrong?! asked Ralph in a loud voice.
Quick, Roger wants to jump off the cruiser!!! cried Eric, I have no time to explain; Sam is holding him
right now by the fan tail of the cruise ship!!!
I have to go and stop him now, said Ralph, you go and inform the officer immediately
The two boys ran off quickly in different directions. Ralph sprinted as fast as he could to the fan tail of
the ship to stop Roger from jumping off.
I dare you to get your hands off me and let me return to the island!!! demanded Roger madly at Sam.
Sam kept holding on to Roger waiting for Eric to go and call somebody for help. Later Ralph came
and shouted to Roger:
Wait a minute!!!
You can t tell me what to do, Ralph. Not ever again! shouted Roger from the distance.
Please, listen to me. You ve got to calm down. said Ralph, If you jumped now, you will die for sure!

Building Quality Public Facilities For A Sustainable...
On September 30th, 1995 The Glenview Naval Air Base that had resided in Glenview, IL for 58 years,
was closed (About Glenview, n.d.). Next, the village worked with the Glenview Community Reuse
Planning Group and in conjunction with the United States Navy to plan and develop economic
alternatives for the Naval base (Master Plan and Design Guidelines, 2008). Over the next decade, The
Village worked towards the development The Glen Town Center, in efforts of attaining their goal of
creating a lasting source of pride for the community by building quality public amenities,
infrastructure, housing plus recreational and job opportunities (Master Plan and Design Guidelines,
2008). In its construction, The Glen utilizes several principals of the smart growth model, or the
sustainable development of healthy communities. The Glen successfully strengthens development
toward an existing community, creates a range of housing opportunities and choices, creates walkable
neighborhoods, provides a variety of transportation choices, takes advantages of compact building
design, and preserves open space, farmland, natural beauty and critical environmental areas
(Friedland, Relyea, Courard Hauri, 2012). As previously noted, The Glen was formerly a Naval Air
Station, but was reformed into the combination of residential and commercial areas we utilize today,
an integral portion of the smart growth model. Since the base was closed in 1995, the Village of
Glenview needed to occupy the vacant

Tyrod Taylor Biography
It s been a few days since the Buffalo Bills defeated the Cardinals. The Bills were able to get their first
win of the season in convincing fashion at New Era Field last Sunday.
Coming into the game with a 0 2 record and the recent firing of Offensive Coordinator Greg Roman,
prepped my heart for the worst.
Early in the 1st Quarter Tyrod Taylor ran the read option play and was able to gain 49 yards putting
the scoring position, after the play the crowd and vibe was insane.
Being in attendance at the game you could feel the shift in energy.
In addition to the ground game finally working the Bills defense of old was able to get to multiple
stops on a prolific offense of the Arizona Cardinals.
When Carson Palmer wasn t throwing interceptions (4) he was picking ... Show more content on

Tyrod Taylor was held to under 175 of passing and no passing TDs. The run game which had been
stagnant for the 1st 2 games seen LeSean McCoy reached 100 yards with 2 TDs and Tyrod Taylor
reached about 75 on the ground himself.
Taylor completion percentage was poor but missing Watkins as his top receiving threat it was
expected. The Bills aside from Watkins have a pedestrian receiving corp, which doesn t help Taylor at
all. This Bills will have to invest in a WR rather through the draft or free agency this upcoming off
season to maximize Taylor full potential as a passer.
The offense started to show promise and the defense was strong vs the Cardinals which is good as
they ll travel to New England to play the Patriots this week. The Patriots are ailing with QB woes and
the Bills could possibly steal a victory from the Patriots due their injury situation at QB.
After the Patriots the Bills have winnable games vs the Rams, 49ers and Dolphins, this is a stretch in
the schedule the Bills need to take advantage to snap the playoff

Dominance In Jane Goodall s The Shadow Of Man
This highlights a very important detail of the dominance hierarchy; how flexible it is. Before his
display with the Kerosene cans Mike was practically on the bottom of the hierarchy but with one
strong display shot up to the top. This shows the quite fascinating ability for the species to recognize
individuals and remember their actions allowing someone such as Mike to do one spectacular act of
dominance and be remembered for it and not have to fight for it again. This is quite different from a
species such as the Stag Beetle, were the same males may wrestle for territory over and over with the
same victor simply because the loser doesn t remember the winner. Further squabbles for dominance
are made unnecessary between individuals when one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She explains that the shadow of man refers to the towering presence that man holds above the chimp
and indeed all wild animals. Chimpanzees live in man s shadow, only able to survive in places that
man has not claimed for farming or timber purposes. What havens these creatures do have is
continually shrinking as man shines his light of industry on the shadow. Goodall and many others fear
for the continued survival of animals who call these untouched forests their home as they should given
not only the indirect killing of these species by destroying their habitats but also by more direct means
such as hunting for locals needs or even worse, for the desires of foreigners who financially support
the hunting of these endangered species. As Goodall insinuated in the final two chapters, chimpanzees
and the creatures in their habitat have much to teach us about the development of intelligence, the past
of our species and its development, and modern day human psychology that is often difficult to
observe. The chimpanzee lives at the mercy of man and their interests are constantly at odds. The
deaths of the chimps are seen not as big of a tragedy as they are lesser than man, they are animals.
What Dr.Goodall s work shows is that the chimpanzee is not only similar to man genetically, they
have personalities, feel heartbreak, form relationship and create tools just as a man

Case Study Of Conflict At Textile Gulshan Mills
In the morning of May, 2010, Shahzad Akbar, chief executive officer (CEO) and owner of Textile

Hamlet Feature Article
Write a review of Hamlet based on a viewing, whereby you ponder the question of the text s enduring
relevance. A news feature based on the play where having seen the play, you analyse why the play
remains relevant to modern audiences. In itself becomes a text of textual integrity. How do people
value it? Discuss some aspects that you would argue to allow the text to view it as something
engaging and valuable. Hamlet Through Time Hamlet. Not just your typical revenge tragedy, but
something deeper, and more than able to rival the likes of Desperate Housewives , despite it s age.
What the audience gets with the play, Hamlet, is a storyline that is complex and intricate, a plot that is
interwoven with tales of love, betrayal, murder and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the main character, Hamlet presents the audience with an image of the renaissance man, one who
offers insights into how one might deal with complex emotions such as love and grief. The audience
follows Hamlet on his journey to avenge his father s death, which was brought about by his late father
s brother, Claudius, the current reigning king. The story clearly centres around the ever hesitant prince
and his struggle to enact his revenge. It is Hamlet s procrastination and inability to act that drives the
story to its disastrously orchestrated end. Despite all his faults, the audience
feels a sense of affection for the young prince and connect with him on a level that is unavailable
with the other characters. It is in this connection that the interest of the audience is captured, such that
one can almost experience his joy and his grief, or his jealousy and love, all things that are
encountered by modern day humans. All the choices that Hamlet makes, allows the audience to
understand his character a little better. No doubt, this is the result of good acting and excellent play
writing, however, there is an element of value that only time brings. Another character that must be
examined, is the aforementioned, Ophelia. Stuck in an Elizabethan world where misogynism is the
norm and women don t have a say, Ophelia is subject to the will of the men in her life. She is chastised
by her brother and father for her relationship

Factors That Reflected On The Various Factors For Education
In the early century, education has been introduced as one of the important form in improving the
civilization. It was established throughout the world through teaching and learning in schools. The
goals of education in Athens were to educate the citizens in both arts of peace and war. As education
was improved through the centuries, the education council established primary education, followed by
secondary and tertiary education. At this time, Malaysia implemented a compulsory education and
curriculum activities for students. In this essay, I will seek to critically examine on the factors that
reflects on the various factors for education background in Malaysia. Malaysia is made up of variety
races. The main three ethnic groups are Malay, Chinese and Indian. Besides that, there are some
minority of other ethnic group such as Sandakan and Sawarakian. Education system in Malaysia
established with English as the first language. My parents never received any Mandarin lessons during
their school age. Many of the Chinese and Indian have trouble in their own mother s tongue. In the
recent 20 years, they changed the teaching system to Malay. Mathematics and Science are all in
Malay. These two languages, Mandarin and Tamil are working as a second language in secondary. It is
not a consistent study throughout our education years.
During my early education experience, I was sent to a Chinese language school. Moving on with
secondary school, my studies are changed from Mandarin to

Importance Of The United Nations
The United Nations is known to promote world stability, keep peace around the globe and to promote
international co operation between countries. The United Nations currently helps 193 countries. Not
only do they help with the political side of things, they also help countries that do not have the proper
necessities to survive such as food, water, and shelter as well as countries that have suffered through a
natural disaster and need help rebuilding. There are still many third world countries in today s society,

Lastly, the World Bank and International Monetary Fund are two institutions within the UN that help
to develop countries socially and economically by helping them with debt and jobs so that they can
survive. The UN has many organizations that provide health and relief aid as well as organizations that
provide finance which is why they are still a major contributor in our world. One of the United
Nations biggest accomplishments is stabilizing the world and creating a better world for future
generations. Many volunteers and peacekeepers are helping civilians to get through their struggles by
helping them retrieve their basic human rights. Unfortunately, many countries are so corrupt that
nothing can be done to help the innocent civilians. However, the UN has made mistakes in the past
and are constantly trying to improve on what can be done within certain corrupt countries. For
example, in Sudan multiple villages were attacked where many civilians lived which resulted in close
to 300,000 people getting killed. The UN did not want to get involved so they asked members of the
African Union to negotiate. This is a clear example that if the government wants to attack, they will
attack. The best solution is for peacekeepers to keep their heads down and stay away rather than
getting involved and potentially getting killed. The war in Sudan has been continuous for decades and

  • 2. International Accounting Standards Board s Preferred... Introduction International Accounting Standards Committee (IASC, 2003) define an asset as a resource controlled by the entity as a result of past events and from which future economic benefits are expected to flow to the entity. In a business model assets act as inputs, either directly (plant, machinery, inventory) or indirectly (goodwill, patents, investment property) to provide products and services to the customer. As assets are expected to generate future benefits, the income generated by these assets is reported under the Income Statement while their value is reported in the Balance Sheet to deduce the value of the said business. Fair value is the market value of a firm s assets and ignores any special benefits of the assets to the business resulting from competencies such as man management skills as well as any transaction costs (Hitz, 2007). Therefore a fair value measurement is market based rather than entity specific and it represents unbiased measurements that are consistent from period to period and across entities (Penman, S. H., 2007). This helps to reinforce consistency and comparability across various reporting entities. Fair Value measurements also have the property of objectivity as it is non entity specific and reflects the market s valuation as compared to entity specific measurements which are subject to managerial judgments (Whittington, 2010). Entity specific measurements account for intangibles such as business competencies and managerial know how, which gets reflected in the financial statements irrespective of whether they have been demonstrated or not. Using fair value limits today s profit recognition to amounts market participants would assess, and leaves to the future the recognition of profit associated with management skill and synergies (Barth, 2010). Hence we can conclude that market valuations incorporate market expectations regarding future cash flows in an efficient and unbiased manner (Hitz, 2007). It can also be argued that fair value ... • 3. The Concept Of Sustainable Development The concept of sustainable development has been at the centre of many big debates of late including world conferences on development and developmental planners. It is gaining impetus as people get more informed on the current effects of climate change and the looming devastating effects of the same on future generations increasing the unpredictability of the future. At the core of sustainable development is the fragile condition of balancing between protection as well as maintenance of the productivity of the environment and the quest for economic growth. This is a fundamental function of environmental politics. The concept of sustainable development makes us believe that it is possible to realize economic prosperity and protect the environment at the same time (Carter, 2007). Although tradeoff may be made between ecological sustainability and fulfilment of basic human needs (Lélé, 1991), this should not be an encouraged practice because human beings will always give preference to their needs over environmental protection no matter how trivial they may be. The ultimate remedy for sustainable development therefore lies with practical good governance and political will locally, nationally and globally. The origin and prominence of the concept sustainable development can be traced back to the 1980 IUCN s World Conservation Strategy(WCS) which aimed at achieving sustainable development through conservation of living resources (Lélé, 1991). • 4. Abortion And The Social Aspects Of Abortion INTRODUCTION It is estimated almost half of pregnancies in Australia are unplanned . Unexpected pregnancies happen for various individual, social, economic and political reasons . The World Health Organisation (WHO) approximates one in three women in Australia will have an abortion procedure in their life . Abortion data is only gathered by South Australia, Western Australia and the Northern Territory. However, South Australia is the only state to publish data and report findings annually. Abortion is a heavy topic which has the nation spilt into two groups; pro life or pro choice. Pro life is in favour of the foetus and they believe that by killing the foetus it is equivalent to murder. Pro choice is for abortion, as they believe that the woman has the choice to do what she wants with her body. This report will cover how religion deals with abortion and how it can clash with modern ethnicity, abortion safety, the repercussions of abortion and the social aspects of abortion. RELIGION VS ETHNICITY Religious communities have had a convoluted history in regards to abortion. The Catholic Church of Australia states the direct and voluntary killing of an unborn is gravely immoral. No reason, however serious or tragic, can ever justify the deliberate killing of an innocent human being . Abortion is not explicitly forbidden within the Bible; as neither the Old nor New Testament condemns it. As a social norm, however, Catholic s believe that life starts at conception via ... The Confocal Microscopy And Microscopy Abstract: First; a brief introduction about the confocal microscopy, critical aspects of confocal Microscopy, and the basic parts of the confocal microscope. It will follow by more information about fluorescence microscopy which is used for study fixed and living cells because of its versatility, specificity, and high sensitivity. Introduction: The Confocal Microscope is a type of microscope that is being developed for obtaining high resolution images and 3D reconstruction. The images from the confocal are far better then other microscopes; however, not quite as good as fluorescent microscopes. The confocal shows the most fine details as possible in 3D; the confocal microscopy offers several advantages over conventional wide field optical microscopy, including the ability to control depth of field, elimination or reduction of background information away from the focal plane (that leads to image degradation), and the capacity to collect serial optical sections from thick specimens [1]. The most significant value about the confocal microscope is the spatial filtering techniques that terminate the glare and focus the substance into the view. As it has been stated, there has been a tremendous explosion in the popularity of confocal microscopy in recent years, due in part to the relative the ease with which extremely high quality images can be obtained from specimens prepared for conventional fluorescence microscopy, and the growing number of applications in cell biology that ... This car accident has impacted me negatively by leaving me with PTSD and positively by figuring out what career I am pursuing. This car accident led me to have PTSD, which stands for post traumatic stress disorder. It is a disorder that follows a traumatic event. It made me into who I am today because even though it happened nine years ago I still feel the effects as if it happened yesterday. For example, when my friend s dad was also in a bad car accident and I went with them to see the car I had an anxiety attack because I had flashbacks. There are various steps in the process, such as production, processing, storage and handling, as well as their chemical structures.1 This is important information to know especially because it s the study of what we consume on a daily basis for nourishment. Not only are there federal regulations that must be met, but individuals are also seeking information past these regulatory requirements to investigate and see what they are putting into their bodies. Food chemistry allows for these things to occur. One aspect of food chemistry that is an ongoing area of research is food aroma. There are different techniques available for identification of aroma compounds, and different techniques are also used for quantification of these compounds. One technique used is dynamic headspace gas chromatography (DHGC), in which a sample is analyzed through a method that vaporizes and separates its components and can be coupled with a mass spectrometer. The mass spectrometer can further separate the components by its mass and charge and results can be displayed and analyzed. This paper will focus on why dynamic headspace gas chromatography and mass spectrometry are best served for use in the quantification of aroma compounds. Aroma compounds are simply the components responsible for odors in food. The aroma of a food does not come from one particular component, but comes from the combination ... Furthermore, much of the improvement is attributable to current conditions versus the anticipated backdrop six months hence. Currently, perceptions about abundant job availability have reached their highest levels since the summer of 2001. Historically, there has been a close correlation between wage inflation and perceptions of job availability. There is, however, a disconnection between the two during the current cycle, because wage inflation still appears reluctant to breach +3%. Despite the apparent lack of upward pressure on nominal wages, consumer confidence has been rising. This dichotomy is probably explained by the low level of the so called misery index (the summation of consumer price inflation and the unemployment rate). Moreover, real wage gains have been positive due to the persistence of low inflation and this probably explains why, despite modest nominal wage gains, consumers feel more upbeat. This situation could, however, change if inflation rises, thereby pushing inflation adjusted changes in labour compensation into negative territory. Additionally, ninety seven percent of the participants were male, which means that only three percent of the participants were female. Because the focus was a male population, the question of whether vitamin E would affect females the same way is not supported. • 17. Environmental Plans And Wildlife Management Programs As discussed in previous projects, an airport is a significant element in any community. This element has a direct and an indirect impact on the community. With the establishment of an airport, many businesses start to facilitate the construction works. After operating the airport, many businesses start to facilitate the airport s operations. In addition, the airport itself hires staff to run the business. Moreover, airports contribute to the surrounding communities. Thus, the existing of an airport might be harmful to the environment and the wildlife around the airport. Therefore, many airport authorities utilize environmental plans and wildlife management programs. On the other hand, wildlife is a hazard for airports in some cases. For the FAA, wildlife strikes is one of the increasing issues in airports safety (Greenberger, 2013). From 1988 till 2012, more than 219 people were killed and more than 200 aircrafts were destroyed (Greenberger, 2013). Therefore, wildlife management plans are beneficial for wildlife and the airport operations. In other words, wildlife plans mitigate the risks for wildlife around airfields and mitigate the wildlife of concern risk for airplanes. It takes lots of courage to have to endure the harsh conditions of a structural or rural fire, all while trying to save someone s life. Fire fighters put their life on the line to save the environment, people, and animals. Personal protective equipment, Technology and knowledge in prevention of fires are all being updated and improved each day, which is evidence of how the firefighting industry has evolved throughout time. • 23. China s Economic Development Through Experiments With... Deng Xiaoping was one the the Chinese Communist Party leaders. His goal for China was to get it back on the right path, which was economic development within the country. China s economic development has abruptly stopped under the leadership of Mao Zedong. Deng Xiaoping said practice is the sole criterion of truth . His mindset was that by practicing and experimenting with different forms of production and ideas for entrepreneurship, China would be successful in finding their way back to economic development. This started China s path to economic development through experiments with capitalist methods of production. Thee Four Modernizations were goals that were set by Shou Enlai first, in 1963, but they were later enacted by Deng Xiaoping in 1978. These goals were set in order to strengthen the fields of agriculture, industry, national defense, and science and technology in China. They were enacted in hope of saving China s economy, following the death of Mao Zedong. These reforms stressed economic self reliance. They wanted China to have a sense of stability in their economy, while being independent at the same time. The Four Modernizations were designed to make China an economic power by the early 21st century. China was, in fact, able to hurry along their economic development with the help of these reforms. • 24. Effects Of Homeschooling Parental involvement has been defined in many different ways among the researchers. Generally, it is the time parents spend participating in activities as such as volunteering at the schools, knowing the teachers, going to PTA meetings, and helping with school related activities at the home. ( Hill Taylor 2004) One researcher focused on the amount of time spent volunteering and being involved at school. (Griffith 1996) and other researchers expanded the definition to include homework help and outside academic events. Some reasons for parents become involved in schooling are the beliefs that they should be involved, that their help is wanted, and also it will affect their student s outcome. (Hoover Dempsey, et al) Another motivator for parental involvement is a specific invitation from their students for help. In one study, this was found to one of the main motivators along with parental efficacy and parent networks. (Ice and Hoover Dempsey) Parental efficacy is a personal belief that the parents are able to help their student succeed.(Green and Hoover Dempsey) Parents want to be active roles in their students education, find ways that they are capable to help, and find time to help at school or through homeschooling.(Green and Hoover Dempsey, 2007) Parental involvement is generally higher in traditional school during younger years, and by middle and high school, it decreases. Parents, it is thought, slowly begin to be involved more and more because of the feeling of unqualified to help with the higher level homework.(Epstein and Sanders) It is also because as the children s shift into adolescence, they struggle for more autonomy from their parents. (Eccles Harold, 1996) This decrease of parental involvement has been proven to the increase of the time student spend doing homework.(Hill and Taylor) In one study, parents of middle and high school students have said that they felt ... The Bills were able to get their first win of the season in convincing fashion at New Era Field last Sunday. The offense started to show promise and the defense was strong vs the Cardinals which is good as they ll travel to New England to play the Patriots this week. The Patriots are ailing with QB woes and the Bills could possibly steal a victory from the Patriots due their injury situation at QB. Before his display with the Kerosene cans Mike was practically on the bottom of the hierarchy but with one strong display shot up to the top. This shows the quite fascinating ability for the species to recognize individuals and remember their actions allowing someone such as Mike to do one spectacular act of dominance and be remembered for it and not have to fight for it again. This is quite different from a species such as the Stag Beetle, were the same males may wrestle for territory over and over with the same victor simply because the loser doesn t remember the winner. She explains that the shadow of man refers to the towering presence that man holds above the chimp and indeed all wild animals. Chimpanzees live in man s shadow, only able to survive in places that man has not claimed for farming or timber purposes. What havens these creatures do have is continually shrinking as man shines his light of industry on the shadow. Goodall and many others fear for the continued survival of animals who call these untouched forests their home as they should given not only the indirect killing of these species by destroying their habitats but also by more direct means such as hunting for locals needs or even worse, for the desires of foreigners who financially support the hunting of these endangered species. As Goodall insinuated in the final two chapters, chimpanzees and the creatures in their habitat have much to teach us about the development of intelligence, the past of our species and its development, and modern day human psychology that is often difficult to observe. The chimpanzee lives at the mercy of man and their interests are constantly at odds. The deaths of the chimps are seen not as big of a tragedy as they are lesser than man, they are animals. What Dr.Goodall s work shows is that the chimpanzee is not only similar to man genetically, they have personalities, feel heartbreak, form relationship and create tools just as a man ... As the main character, Hamlet presents the audience with an image of the renaissance man, one who offers insights into how one might deal with complex emotions such as love and grief. The audience follows Hamlet on his journey to avenge his father s death, which was brought about by his late father s brother, Claudius, the current reigning king. The story clearly centres around the ever hesitant prince and his struggle to enact his revenge. It is Hamlet s procrastination and inability to act that drives the story to its disastrously orchestrated end. Despite all his faults, the audience feels a sense of affection for the young prince and connect with him on a level that is unavailable with the other characters. It is in this connection that the interest of the audience is captured, such that one can almost experience his joy and his grief, or his jealousy and love, all things that are encountered by modern day humans. All the choices that Hamlet makes, allows the audience to understand his character a little better. No doubt, this is the result of good acting and excellent play writing, however, there is an element of value that only time brings. Unfortunately, many countries are so corrupt that nothing can be done to help the innocent civilians. However, the UN has made mistakes in the past and are constantly trying to improve on what can be done within certain corrupt countries. For example, in Sudan multiple villages were attacked where many civilians lived which resulted in close to 300,000 people getting killed. The UN did not want to get involved so they asked members of the African Union to negotiate. This is a clear example that if the government wants to attack, they will attack. The best solution is for peacekeepers to keep their heads down and stay away rather than getting involved and potentially getting killed.
