Conformity In Brave New World
In this dystopian world the people are dependant upon soma at anytime when unpleasant thoughts,
feelings or emotions are shown. Soma can drive any bad thoughts out of mind. Doctors declare that
one cubic centimeter of soma cures ten gloomy sentiments.
Like soma drug in Brave New World, in The Giver, there is a relief of pain medication that is provided
to community members to relieve their pains so that no one can suffer. Whenever there is any kind of
unpleasant thought or pain or disease, people are immediately given this unnamed medication. This
medication is given to all people of the community except for the Giver who bears the pains and
memories of the whole society. It is in the form of ointment or pills or injection:

The first view concerns the authoritarian governments who see that by achieving conformity and
sameness, they succeed to achieve happiness, stability and consequently utopia. The second view
concerns the dystopian protagonists, Bernard Marx, John the Savage and Jonas, who see that by losing
individuality, identity, freedom, love and family in return for unreal false happiness and superficial
stability, the people lost their humanity and live in a dystopia. In Brave New World, Mustafa Mond
confirms the first view of the authorities:
The world s stable now. People are happy; they get what they want, and they never want what they can
t get. They re well off; they re safe; they re never ill; they re not afraid of death; they re blissfully
ignorant of passion and old age; they re plagued with no mothers or fathers; they ve got no wives, or
children, or lovers to feel strongly about; they re so conditioned that they practically can t help
behaving as they ought to behave (Huxley, Brave 183).
John the Savage, who represents the second view of the outsiders, is convinced that people lost a lot of
basic human qualities, so at the end of the novel he expresses his dissatisfaction and anger by

Cole Stryker What Is Wrong With Public Shaming
What s wrong with public shaming? An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth (Hammurabi). Now in
this day and age most might say this is excessive, but when it comes to public shaming, far too many
are not quite as hesitant. In Cole Stryker s excerpt The Problem with Public Shaming, he makes it
quite clear that there are better ways to punish an individual rather than ruining their lives by publicly
humiliating them. Cole states public shaming is a thing of the past and should find new ways to treat
criminals, that to dox (digging up of a target s personal information) an individual is harmful to both
parties, and stating that public shaming is counterproductive. An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth

It is human nature for people to get even with whomever does them wrong. Hollywood the movie
industry has made and is going to make countless moves on people getting their revenge. This human
reaction not only distances oneself from the right to logic, but leaves no room for the chance of
forgiveness. Without forgiveness, there is resentment towards a certain person or a multitude of
people. Cole gives many examples of the counterproductive ways that deal with public shaming. For
example, when someone is effected by a crime and they look for help from local police forces, but are
rejected from such task force. This rejection now casts an ideology that all police officers do not care,
in return leaving a disdainful image of all police officers. Now with the case Black Lives Matter, this
organization preaches to the masses that police officers are patrolling the streets look for young black
men to kill. This movement stemmed from no justice being brought forward to the accused criminal.
There has been multiple incidents like the one previously stated which is why such a hatred has been
casted upon all police forces in America. Rather than jailing the person responsible, a mere slap on the
wrist is all that happens. Police officers all over America are scared to do their job, living in the
shadows trying to keep themselves on the right side of the ledger. Trying to keep as much distance as
possible away from groups trying to inflict

Single System Design
A Single System Design for Evaluation of Changes with Social Anxiety Client Goal Morris
Oosterhoff (2016) states that there is evidence that many internalizing disorders, such as emotional or
behavioral disorders, are developed in the childhood or late childhood stages of development. They go
on to say that the parenting styles used to raise a child and over control may be linked to a child
developing an internalizing disorder. The parenting and over control will interfere with the developing
a healthy process of self efficacy and may undermine children s feelings creating anxiety (Morris
Oosterhoff, 2016, p. 2). The client is a 24 year old white female who states she was raised by her

writing program impacted the client s anxiety. The structured writing program was chosen because
there is a growing body of empirical research indicates that structure writing interventions produce
substantial immediate and long term benefits, including improvements in cognitive, emotional,
behavioral and physiological functioning (Barret Wolfer, 2001, p. 1). Structured writing has been
proven to be effective with emotional stimulation as well as helping a person with self discovery
process. The client will experience self discovery through writing about her anxiety experiences, and
describe what she feels, and how anxiety it affects her. This will be her experiences before, during and

Child Rearing Practices Within The Society
Humans are social beings, living off of interactions. Through these interactions, society is created.
Society defines socials norms, taboos, traditions, and so on. Humans also derive certain feelings and
beliefs like happiness, love, ethics, and culture from society. Unarguably, society is extremely
powerful around the world. It does however alter from place to place. Some societies are based on the
individual, while others value community. Not to mention, some societies are integrated and
homogeneous while others are disintegrated and heterogeneous. Anthropologist, Dorothy Lee, finds
there to be conflicts in western culture s disintegrated society, which she is looking to resolve. Lee
goes on to explore the cultures of different homogeneous societies. Primarily, she placed her focus on
child rearing practices within these different cultures. Homogeneous cultures believe that individual
integrity goes hand in hand with structure. However, unlike heterogeneous cultures, they also signify
authentic individual freedom. The key social problem addressed by Lee, is that the negligence of
personal autonomy, results from an undeveloped community, failing the necessities of structure and
freedom. She discussed the importance of respect, value of the being, and spontaneous functioning as
elements of a prosperous community. Community is the harmony felt by a grouping of people. It is the
creation of structure. Predominantly, a community consists of the same values, beliefs,

Compare And Contrast The Progressive Movement And...
Industrialization, Progressive Movements and Urbanization The American society faced many
industrial revolutions which always changed its outlook. With industrialization the political scenario
also changed as the people started to participate more in politics and progressive movements started in
which different polices and reforms were introduced which brought further change in the American
society. In the late nineteenth century the American society industrialized because of the development
of new technologies and one nation market. Before that consumer markets were small but the

It was a golden age of American history. The consumer markets expanded but the income inequalities
were high due to low wages. The progressive era promised to increase the mass consumption and
expansion of capital market (Foner 734). These things considered the basic elements of freedom so
leisure activities were also influenced by capitalism. Economic abundance was the way of American
life and it was the promise of progressive era (Foner 736). Women employment participation was
increased so they were empowered. The increased discrimination and wealth inequality gave rise to
the Socialist Party, who called for immediate reforms in the education policies, legislation to improve
the life of labors and demanded democratic role of the economy through public ownership of
industries (Foner 741). The elected members of socialist party gave more respect and care to the
laborers and the middle class. They were more focused on equality. The government wanted to combat
the giant corporation and protect the consumers. The government was more experts oriented as they

A Cross Country Analysis Of Public Debt Management Essay
PUBLIC DEBT
A Cross Country Analysis of Public Debt Management Strategies* Martin Melecky: Banking and
Debt Management Department World Bank
In order to finance expenditures on public goods and services that promote growth and increase
nations welfare governments often have to borrow this decision of how much to borrow is that of
fiscal policy which determines the targeted level of debt based on a sustainability analysis of
government debt. The main cause for the increasing domestic debt and its utilization to finance
revenue deficit, is the rigidity and the restricted scope for further expansion of the tax receipts and low
nontax revenue to meet the growing non developmental expenditure. This rise in non developmental
expenditure is attributed to interest payments and defense expenditure, accounting for nearly one third
of total expenditure. It is essential to understand the composition of domestic debt, an important
feature of fiscal policy. Internal debt, small savings, provident funds, and reserve funds and deposits
are the main constituents. With respect to India, internal debt of the central Government is secured
under the Consolidated Fund of India and that of the States in the case of the State Governments. The
structure of domestic debt has been fluctuating over time in India and the share of internal debt in
domestic debt has been declining, but it still accounts for more than half of domestic debt. In India,
external debt can only be incurred by the Central

The Core Capabilities Of Icf
2.2. Architecture Overview
ICF is a multi tiered, service based framework that integrates broad range of technologies covering the
autonomy of a machine to analytical services that are combined with domain specific user interfaces
to form specific battlefield applications [] . This framework can be adapted to other battle command
and robotic control systems to enhance human performance, and can communicate with underlying
control and simulation systems via standard protocols. Underlying ICF provides a generalized
framework that integrates various requisite knowledge bases, knowledge representations, the
applications, machines, to represent a collaborative technology that offers different forms of user
assistance in a holistic manner.
Figure 2: Intelligence and control abstraction layers for ICF
The core capabilities of ICF are designed around three main modules corresponding to the three tiers,
AMM, PES and UI, of human machine collaboration. The adjustable autonomy module (AAM)
contains the reasoning necessary for modeling the human plans and intentions, situation reasoning,
and determining new automation settings. This module covers most of the reasoning requirements
labeled (2a c) in the previous section.
The planning and execution system (PES) contains an abstraction layer for controlling automated
processes, as well as providing the rest of the system access to information generated by the
automated processes, such as sensor readings and asset status

Euthanasia Is A Form Of Doctor Assisted Suicide
Euthanasia is a form of doctor assisted suicide. There are many different types of Euthanasia and all
are currently illegal in the United States with the exception of the state of Oregon. When a patient is
being Euthanized they can be given an injection intravenously which causes their death this is called
Euthanasia by action. A person could also be assisted to death through euthanasia by omission; this is
when the patient is not provided with the appropriate things such as food or water. Also patients can be
given a medication that renders them into a deep sleep in which they are left to die, either through the
progression of their illness or through starvation. The most important aspect of doctor assisted suicide
is whether it is voluntary, involuntary or non voluntary. The difference between non voluntary and
involuntary is that non voluntary is when the patient does not request to be euthanized but they are.
Involuntary euthanization is when a person specifically asks that they not be euthanized and they are.
Although euthanasia is illegal some forms of it are still regularly practiced in today s healthcare
system. Euthanasia dates back to as early as 1828 when the first law was written to outlaw anyone
from providing a person with a dangerous weapon and or a harmful chemical that would knowingly be
used in the taking of a person s own life. This would include taking the life of another person with
their permission. In 1920 the book Permitting the Destruction of Life

The Cia Director Allen Dulled Sanctioned The Mkultra Program
When many Americans think about Germany, they think of the Nazis and the experiments they did
with the Jews. However, what they are unfamiliar with is that the U.S. government did the same thing.
It all started in the 50 s during the Korean War. Concerned about the rumors of Communist
brainwashing of POWs, the CIA director Allen Dulled sanctioned the MKULTRA program in April

result of past event and from which future economic benefits are expected to flow the entity . In
simply words, asset is a valuable item that can be control and have future economic benefits. For
examples building, land, and equipments.
This paper is going to talk about the definition of the assets, recognition of the assets, classification,
and how to determine the acquisition cost of assets. The second part of this essay will compare the
methods of the assets and depreciation property, plant and equipment for the two annual reports
between National Australian Bank and Coca Cola Amatil Limited pursuant as per Australian
Accounting Standard Board (AASB) 116. To define the meaning of an asset, it is required to meet the
key items of criteria such as: the items need to have future economic benefits, control, past events,
probable and reliable measurement. All of these are showing at financial statement. If one of the key
criteria of the above is not there, the item cannot be classified as an asset and should not be shown in

How Stress And Stress Management
For this assignment I was asked to select a topic in which we have studied during the weeks of nine
through eleven. I have selected to explore Stress and Stress Management more in depth. In this
assignment I will explain what made me want to know more about it. I plan on telling you what you
should know about Stress and Stress Management. Lastly, I will discuss how Stress and Stress
Management relate to success in my personal and professional life. Stress can be defined as the
nonspecific response of the body to any demand made on it (Lamberton Minor, 2014, p. 288).
Selecting this topic was very easy for me because the past few days have been very stressful. I have
recently endured a stressful situation in which I have never encountered before. I recently interviewed
for a new position, and survived the stress of the interview process. Two weeks later I received a call
back offering me the position. This was great news, but the call came five minutes after I had arrived
to work for my twelve hour shift. After, the five minute conversation I accepted the offer, but
proceeded to tell her I would need to get back with her on the wage offer. The stress I felt in that
moment was positive. According to our text this form of stress is known as eustress. Eustress is a good
stress, not to mention it is desirable (Lamberton Minor, 2014). On the other hand, my mind raced as I
worked that day. The stress of a new nursing experience, the stress of turning in my notice, and the

How Does Lyndon B Johnson Use Rhetoric In We Shall Overcome
In Lyndon B. Johnson s speech We Shall Overcome he uses rhetorical technique. He uses rhetoric to
get his point across that African American citizens deserve equal rights to vote. In his speech he talks
about how America needs to act on the things it promised to all citizens. He says that America is
lacking dignity and they are not fighting for all to have freedom. He wants America to right wrongs,
serve men, and do justice.
First, Lyndon claims that the issue of voting rights for African American citizens challenges America s
values and denying this right to all citizens is an injustice. He justifies this claim throughout his
speech. For example, he says in one part that it is the duty of Americans to right social wrongs and
pursue justice for all citizen. Another example, he says there is no reason for anyone to be held back
from voting and they are only held back because they are black. This justifies his claim because it
supports the idea that it is an injustice to keep African Americans from voting and it s only happening
because of the unjust treatment of blacks. In this part of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This claim is supported when he talks about the trials African Americans have to go through to vote;
the trials being impossible. African American people would go to register to vote and be told that the

would be disqualified for not spelling out their middle name or if they abbreviated a word. If they
managed to fill out an application correctly, they would be given a rigorous test that was impossible to
pass. These tasks were only given to African Americans. In the part he talks about these trials he uses

The Cost Of Eating Healthy
The Cost of Eating Healthy Wouldn t it be reasonable to consider that people just might eat healthier if
they simply had the money to do so? It would be interesting to consider that the people who usually
have bad eating habits, are the ones who actually can t afford to eat healthy. America has the highest
obesity rate in the world, but who knows where we could be if the healthy food was more affordable
and the junk food wasn t reasonably cheap. Illnesses and diseases have become common too in
people, many that come from just unhealthy eating that has taken a negative toll on the body. Not to
mention, people living in low income areas where in those areas, the main thing around them are fast
food restaurants. The promotion of healthier eating and a healthier lifestyle, though, isn t completely
hidden from the public, though more ads about tasty junk food are on televisions, billboards, and so
on, more than food that will benefit your body and general health. These things are all played into the
fact that people already have a terrible diet, and the prices of foods that can make someone s diet
healthier are too high for most to even include them in their diet regularly. Healthier foods should cost
less because it can help lower the high obesity rate in America, it will promote a healthier lifestyle to
people to do things like exercise more, and it can help prevent life threatening illnesses caused by
unhealthy eating. Low income areas have the biggest influence on

The Structure Of Eukaryotic Cells
Describe the Structure of Eukaryotic Cells
You can identify a eukaryotic cell by its encased nucleus, containing the majority of its DNA and
organelles surrounded by a membrane. Plant and Animal cells have double membranes and a housed
nucleus therefore they are eukaryotic cells; organisms which do not contain a double membrane and
an encased nucleus are known as prokaryotes, e.g. bacteria. The eukaryotic cell is made up of many
membrane bound organelles which all have a specific function.
Nucleus
The nucleus of a eukaryotic cell holds the majority of the cells DNA material, the nucleus is often
referred to as the control centre of the cell as it uses the DNA to direct all other activities within the
cell.
The nucleus is a round, dense and the largest of the cells organelles, making it the easiest organelle to
identify. The nucleus needs a protective membrane in order to keep the cytoplasm separate from the
genetic material it holds.
One of the main functions of the nucleus is that it is responsible for protein synthesis, which is vital
for the process of life continuing and the production of hereditary characteristics within an organism.
Summary of Protein Synthesis DNA is used indirectly as it must stay complete as a permanent
stockpile of genetic information. Encoded DNA within the nucleus is transported to small molecules
of nucleic acid named messenger RNA (mRNA) mRNA takes the genetic information to ribosomes

the ready availability of Internet in many regions of the world. Some people also refer to it as the

Negative effects of Mass Media for teenagers, The exposure of sex images and excessive portraits of
violence in movies and dramas have instilled negative thoughts and taboos in the mind of these
teenagers for they have been consistently getting increased exposure to things which are not suitable

Women are obsessive with losing weight even if they are not being fat or obese. This is due to the

The Moon Landing
The Apollo 11 mission of 1969 marks the biggest leap in technological advancements for humanity.
Neil Armstrong is seen taking the first steps on the moon forever making his mark in humanity.
However, theories surrounding the moon landing have come to light. Conspiracy theorists say NASA,
the National Aeronautics Space Administration, have faked the Apollo 11 moon landing. Yet, present
evidence can support the authenticity of the moon landing. Evidence such as photos, rock samples,
technology, and computer monitoring support the moon landing. The moon landing of 1969 did
happen. One of the key pieces of evidence of the moon landing is photo evidence. Numerous photos
as well as video have been released and seen by the public. One of the most famous photos is the
deployment of the United States flag on the lunar surface that appears to be rippling. Some theories
will conclude that there s no wind in space so the flag could not have been waving. However, Dr.
Phillips of NASA s Science and Space Directorate, states, Not every waving flag needs a breeze at
least not in space. Neil Armstrong along with Buzz Aldrin can be seen in video footage twisting the
flag to plant it deeper in the lunar soil. This motion causes the flag to appear rippling. Dr. Phillips also
says, Unfurling a piece of rolled up cloth with stored angular momentum will naturally result in waves
and ripples. Many of the photos taken are from the moon itself. Many of the theories can be refuted by

ignorance. The children from the island have received values and beliefs passed down from their
parents. In Pat Conroy s perspective, the government neglected Yamacraw Island and caused these
values and beliefs to remain in use. In the memoir The Water is Wide by Pat Conroy, the author
stresses the impact that segregation and national ignorance has on the people of a socially isolated
town on Yamacraw Island, South Carolina. Mrs. Brown, the first schoolteacher on the island, most
clearly demonstrates the theme of national ignorance. Mrs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Every so often, Mrs. Brown pokes her head in and attempts to steer Pat Conroy s teaching methods
back on course in her favor. Pat Conroy works for a revolutionary change in the students, while Mrs.
Brown s continues a heartless attitude towards the children. One day in class, Mr. Conroy tries to
collect the students prior knowledge. Pat Conroy peruses their psyche s by asking questions, starting
from moderately hard, then gradually decreasing to basic knowledge. He eventually decreases the
difficulty to one incredibly easy question to the normal American. For example, Pat Conroy relates,
What country do we live in, gang? Everybody tell me at once, I exhorted. No one said a word. Several
of the kids looked at one another and shrugged their shoulders (Conroy). This quotation clearly
demonstrates that the government almost completely neglected the students of Yamacraw Island. The
students cannot even comprehend the name of the land that they stand on, which focuses on survival
in the modern world. The title of the book, The Water is Wide, stands as an appropriate choice because
the small river exists as the only thing separating Yamacraw Island from the rich, fulfilled life of the
outside world. When someone crosses the river, everything taught to him or her becomes nonexistent
on this new planet called Yamacraw Island. The people of the Island live a completely different
lifestyle than

The Values Of A College Is A Community College
A college is an educational institution where you earn the skill, the values, the education, the degree to
succeed in life. It may be a four year college, a community college or an institution that offers
vocational education. Now that you know how I define a college, I would like to explain the prompt
and my viewpoint. Stephanie Owen and Isabel Sawhill, in their report published in 2013 by the
Brookings Institution, mention for certain schools, majors, occupations and individuals, a college may
not be a smart investment (page 209), to which I completely disagree. I will use the following
paragraphs to substantiate my viewpoint that, college indeed is a smart investment irrespective of the
occupations and majors, by citing examples, quotes, and some personal anecdotes. As John Stuart Mill
once said and I quote the objective of universities is not to make skillful lawyers, physicians, or
engineers, but capable and cultivated human beings . From the discussion in the class, we reached a
similar conclusion about how college plays an important role in our lives and enlisted reasons for
attending college. College presents a myriad of opportunities in terms of networking, for jobs. It helps
a person to grow into a skillful, well educated individual. It assists a person to

U.s. Citizen s Response
April 20, 1999, a day that brought shame and grief to the country of America. It took the nation twelve
student deaths, one teacher fatality, two suicides and twenty one others whom were left seriously
injured to finally provoke a close examination of the increasing levels of violence that were occurring
countrywide. At 11:19am, after attending their early morning bowling class, eighteen year old Eric
Harris and seventeen year old Dylan Klebold carried out a mass shooting at their own local high
school situated in the small town of Columbine in Jefferson County Colorado. Armed with semi
automatic rifles, hand guns and numerous other explosives, the horror inflicted by the two individuals
lasted approximately 12 minutes before they concluded by taking their own lives. What intensified the
spread of fear across many was the realisation that if such an episode could strike a quiet suburb
community such as Columbine, similar occurrences had the capacity to shatter lives anywhere now
more so than ever. U.S citizen s response to the killings was to palpably determine the reasoning
behind what could have driven two young teenagers to commit such horrific murders. To no surprise it
was for the majority of them and also the government to subsequently conclude from analysed
possibilities it was founded from bullying in the classroom and violence portrayed via the media. The
scale of such an event and the debate amongst many as to what enabled two such beings to A. be

Descriptive Lake House Essay
It was chilly. It always was. The slight breeze and the overcast clouds provided a gray morning, which
to some foreshadowed a sad and droopy day but I saw the hopeful rays of sunshine attempting to leak
through the dull, gray bars that separated the warm sun from the cool ground. The lake house: a place
where I enjoyed the fruits of having a friendship with the daughter of the family who owned the
house. From wakeboarding to tubing to boat rides the lake offered all the amenities one could hope for
in a fairly large body of water. Yet these forms of entertainment only amount to the smallest fraction
of why the lake house is so integral to my contentment.
The dock has a fine hardwood finish that prevents painful splinters, plenty of comfortable lawn chairs
to sit in, an emerald green table where I have played countless hours of Settlers of Catan, and an
American flag that flutters majestically in the wind. The view, needless to say, is breathtaking. In the
chilly, gray mornings that accompany my lake house visits, I wake up early, amble to the dock, plop
down on a comfortable lawn chair, and gaze out into the body of water that is Weiss Lake. The smooth
waves undulate across the calm surface of the lake as if a herder is flocking his sheep slowly back into
the red barn house. The ripples create a sense of inner calm that permeates throughout ... Show more

Speech On Redundant Writing
Stop Over Explaining; I Get It!
A curse of being a writer is the compulsion to edit. Take the sign on my walking trail, for example. It
reads, Watered by well water. One of these days, no matter how hard I try to resist, I just know I m
going to paint it out to read, Irrigated by well water. If you don t get this, it s because you re not a
writer. ― Ron Brackin
Redundancy 101
Redundant writing is verbose or long winded, bombastic, pompous, effusive, or wordy. Oh, and
redundant words just repeat the point.
However, there may be times that redundancy is good writing, if it reduces the chances of the words
being misread or misinterpreted.
Looking at the first sentence, maybe I was concerned that not all readers would know the meaning of
verbose , so I wrote several other similar words rather like a built in Thesaurus. Some readers may
appreciate that they don t have to look the word up in a dictionary, but I ll beat that more readers were
annoyed.
Granted, I am someone that values dictionaries and if I find a word I don t know, I look it up.
However, I can also provide a link for questionable words, and not belabor the point. Readers then
have the option to click the link or continue with their reading.
Recognizing Redundancy
Simply put, redundant writing is using words or phrases that are unnecessary. As Strunk and White tell
us in Elements of Style, Vigorous writing is concise. A sentence should contain no unnecessary words,
a paragraph no unnecessary

I Am Running For Class President
As the new year begins, students begin to go back to class and the class president s election. Calista is
a kind of girl that good at everything, but her only weakness is that she is too nice and humility to the
people. This is her first time to try to running for class president. She prepared very hard and really
want to be the class president and she didn t tell anyone. One day, Scarlett, her best friends tell her, I
am going to be running for class president. Calista was surprised, she bowed, her eyes big and she
never thought that Scarlett would try for class president. But she didn t say anything. Are you going to
running for it too? Scarlett Said it in a sudden. En? No, no, no, no, of course I am not going to be in it.
Don t worry. Calista panicked and smile. Should I tell her that I am running for it too, and should I
compete with her? Calista thought deeply. It was not an easy decision to make for Calista. Beside,
Scarlett told her she had very big confidence to make it. Calista has been thinking this all day: how
can she compete with her best friend for class president? As her walk out the library door, she holds a
cup of coffee and staring at her phone. How can she go to tell her best friend, Scarlett, that she is in
the competition too. As she walking in the hallway, Scarlett is walking toward this way too. Calista
was a little fluster. Hi, Scarlett, said Calista, how is your day? Yes is good, I think I am ready for the
speech. I am so excited. I

US Income Tax Case Study
The United States enacted IRC 385 in 1969, which gave tax authorities the power to determine if
intercompany loans were, in substance, equity investments. The tax authorities believed then that
characterising intercompany loans as equity would resolve the thin capitalisation issue. If the IRS
could deem intercompany loans to be investments, it could treat the interest payments as dividends,
which are not tax deductible. However, the tax authorities eventually determined these tools were
inadequate. In 1989, Congress enacted (IRC) section 163(j) to address the concern of US earnings
being stripped out in the form of interest payments on debt by a U.S. subsidiary to its foreign parent
company. The concern was that the U.S. subsidiary would receive a U.S. tax deduction that reduces its
U.S. taxable income while the interest paid to the foreign based parent corporation may not be subject
to U.S. withholding tax (or subject to a reduced rate) under various income tax treaties.
The current U.S. earnings stripping rule limits the deductibility of disqualified interest expense .

Even if a debt to equity ratio exceeds 1.5 to 1, a U.S. corporation is allowed current deductions as long

(interest expense minus interest income) does not exceed 50% of its adjusted taxable income. Adjusted
taxable income is determined by adjusting a corporation s taxable income for certain non cash items

Examples Of Honor Culture
A Culture of Honor Throughout the United State and the world, there is a concept known as a culture
of honor. In most society, a culture of honor it is common for people to avoid offending others
intentionally and to maintain a reputation of not accepting improper conduct. This type of culture can
commonly be seen in 4 types of environments: inner cities, frontier lands, southern United States, and
conflict zones. People in these areas tend to take action for themselves since authority is either not
trusted and/or not present. A culture of honor establishes how people handle conflict and disputes on
their own without interference from legal authority. One type of environment where a culture of honor
is present is in the inner city ghettos. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can include area like the Middle East, South Asia, and other regions. In these areas, legal
authority is often not trusted and weak due to the political unrest in the region. People also take great
offense when someone disgraces their culture and/or religion. An example of this is known as honor
killings. The women of the family or community, whose average age is 23, are often the main targets
for honor killings. These killing normally result from a suspicion that one is engaging in acts that
impinge on the family s and society s conservative views. This can include partaking in relationships
outside of marriage, refusal of an arranged marriage, seeking divorce, homosexual acts, and being a
victim of rape. The victims of honor killings are often murdered in the name of family honor for
bringing shame and disgrace to the family. In many cases, these killings occur within a family unit
between father daughter, husband wife, brother sister, etc. Since they occur so regularly, most honor
killings are not classified as such, are rarely prosecuted, or when prosecuted in the Muslim world,
result in relatively light sentences (Chesler, 2010). Due to the presence of the culture of honor, many
societies in the Middle East often turn a blind eye to the murders honor killings of thousands of
women every

Dante s Journey Through Hell, Purgatory, And Heaven
Around 1314, Dante Alighieri completed the Inferno, the first section of what would make up The
Divine Comedy, a collection of three poems reflecting Dante s imaginative journey through Hell,
Purgatory, and Heaven. In these poems, Dante the poet describes the pilgrimage that Dante the pilgrim
must complete to attain salvation. With the Roman poet Virgil as his guide, Dante the pilgrim must
purge himself of his own sinful nature, which can only be achieved by observing and learning from
those that have landed themselves in either Hell, Purgatory, or Heaven. Described in Inferno, his
excursion begins in Hell where Dante learns about the stories and the sufferings of many sinners. As
Dante the pilgrim progresses through Hell it is clear that he assumes different personas. In some
instances, Dante the pilgrim is portrayed as an empathetic man who pities the sinners while on other
occasions, Dante the pilgrim is portrayed as a callous and indignant being in regard to the sinners.
While Dante the pilgrim is depicted in these two completely different ways, it is the insensitive
portrayal that more precisely depicts Dante the pilgrim, as that is his true identity when he leaves Hell.
His journey affected him so greatly that by the end of his pilgrimage, Dante the pilgrim has
transformed from a compassionate man into an impervious and even cruel individual.
When Dante enters the second circle of Hell, where the licentious sinners suffer, Dante meets a
woman named Francesca and

Hierarchy Of Effect Of Amazon
Introduction
Nowadays it is crucial for companies to understand and have a clear vision about trends and levels on
customer knowledge, preferences and behaviors, in order to develop with success their brand and
product strategy.
In effect, studies of awareness, attitudes and usage are made in way to measure these trends and they
are based on the theory of Hierarchy of Effects, assumption that explains the process with which the
consumer, primarily, starts to be aware about the product, with initial trial of it, and then, after
adoption of the product, he becomes loyal to it.
In this way companies can see how their reputation and competition increase, starting a growth

To do this, after its foundation, Amazon came up with the idea of customer reviews, which it means
that if people see other people s review about products and services acquired online they feel more
confident to proceed with the purchase. Doing constantly that operation, company s reputation and
safeness can increase as well as the number of people who start buy on the internet.
They developed a recommendation module, insight integrated after seeing that, between the last
purchase and the following one, exists a connection. It means that after the purchase several
suggestions about a set of customized products are given to the customer, in way to give more
visibility to similar products and to ease their discovery.
To make easy and simplify online shopping they created a process called one click ordering with

Key West Essay
Key West
Key West is many people s paradise. It has dazzling waters, beautiful beaches, and a wonderful
climate. This tiny island is located off the southernmost part of Florida is the only true tropical island
in the United States. Thousands of people from all over the world come to Key West every year for the
relaxing lifestyle and rich culture. As well as being rich in culture it is rich in history too. Key West
has also been the home to many great authors and artists and is known for having a very diverse
population.

Then after the war, the industries success decreased, but the immigration of Cubans to Key West
increased. The cigar industry soon grew to phenomenal heights and the island became a refuge for
Cuban revolutionaries (Gifford 9).
The more successful Key West was the more populated it became and soon the city we now know as
Miami spun off of Key West. In 1871, the arrival of the Cuban San
Carlos Institute and Opera House made Key West a rich and diverse city. The island did suffer from a
fire that destroyed fifty acres of downtown property in 1886, but by then there was a steamship service
and that made reconstruction of the city quick and easy (4).
Soon the good luck of Key West was about to run out. A hurricane arrived and was so destructive that
it forced the cigar industry to the Tampa area. Then, their second main industry, that was the sponge
beds, was destroyed by a blight. The only (5) thing they had left was the tourist industry and the
Florida land boom collapsed in the
1920 s, so the only tourists they had were people passing through to Cuba. During The
Great Depression the island s problems escalated. In 1934, the people were considering abandoning
the island because up to 80% of the population was on relief. Then a major setback occurred. The
biggest hurricane to hit Key West happened on Labor Day 1935.
The hurricane packed winds up to 200 miles an hour and killed hundreds of people. Key

A Christmas Carol Scrooge Essay
Once, Nikos Kazantzakis, a Greek writer, said, Since we cannot change reality, let us change the eyes
which see reality. Some people may think that you can only look at things in one perspective, your
own. Unfortunately, in the play A Christmas Carol, Ebenezer Scrooge believes just this. Scrooge
believes that the way he looks at life, at the poor, is the right way to look at life. He does not know that
there is more than one way to look at life, most of all he believes there is only one correct way to look
at reality. He is self centered and unable to be sympathetic and has empathy. With the help of three
Christmas spirits and his dead business partner Jacob Marley, Scrooge blossoms into a kind hearted
man. Realizing what type of person he was Scrooge is determined to change his future and become a
new man and he does.

Social Stratification in Manifesto of the Communist...
Social Stratification in Manifesto of the Communist Party by Karl Marx and Max Weber s Class,
Status and Party
Social stratification is the ranking of members of society in a way
that some of its members are regarded as superior and others as inferior.
This theory is certainly debated in present time and was debated as far
back as 1776 when Karl Marx presented his theory in his Manifesto of
the Communist Party . In the 1880 s, Max Weber combatted that document
in his own Class, Status and Party.
Karl Marx believed that social standing or rank was based solely on
class position. For example, an owner of a business was regarded far above
a worker in that same business. Class position would also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

people living a higher style of life usually shy away from those of a lower
economic status. You do not often encounter children from wealthy
Manhattan families playing with children from Harlem. The third part
of Weber s theory on social stratification was power, which Weber defined as
the chances of having other people do what you want them to do regardless
of their own wishes.
Marx would not have argued with Weber about the three factors
being in existence; however, he probably would state that the class of the
person would determine how much status and power a person would have.
Weber agreed with Marx in the fact that in a capitalistic society, class had
the biggest influence on a person s position and that status and power were
given more to the higher classes. Weber said, however, that there were
other societies in which this was not true, such as in the Estates System of
Medieval Europe and the Caste System of India. In the Estates System,
power was the most important factor of social rank, followed by class and
status. The best

  • 2. Conformity In Brave New World In this dystopian world the people are dependant upon soma at anytime when unpleasant thoughts, feelings or emotions are shown. Soma can drive any bad thoughts out of mind. Doctors declare that one cubic centimeter of soma cures ten gloomy sentiments. Like soma drug in Brave New World, in The Giver, there is a relief of pain medication that is provided to community members to relieve their pains so that no one can suffer. Whenever there is any kind of unpleasant thought or pain or disease, people are immediately given this unnamed medication. This medication is given to all people of the community except for the Giver who bears the pains and memories of the whole society. The first view concerns the authoritarian governments who see that by achieving conformity and sameness, they succeed to achieve happiness, stability and consequently utopia. The second view concerns the dystopian protagonists, Bernard Marx, John the Savage and Jonas, who see that by losing individuality, identity, freedom, love and family in return for unreal false happiness and superficial stability, the people lost their humanity and live in a dystopia. In Brave New World, Mustafa Mond confirms the first view of the authorities: The world s stable now. People are happy; they get what they want, and they never want what they can t get. They re well off; they re safe; they re never ill; they re not afraid of death; they re blissfully ignorant of passion and old age; they re plagued with no mothers or fathers; they ve got no wives, or children, or lovers to feel strongly about; they re so conditioned that they practically can t help behaving as they ought to behave (Huxley, Brave 183). John the Savage, who represents the second view of the outsiders, is convinced that people lost a lot of basic human qualities, so at the end of the novel he expresses his dissatisfaction and anger by ... • 3. Cole Stryker What Is Wrong With Public Shaming What s wrong with public shaming? An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth (Hammurabi). Now in this day and age most might say this is excessive, but when it comes to public shaming, far too many are not quite as hesitant. In Cole Stryker s excerpt The Problem with Public Shaming, he makes it quite clear that there are better ways to punish an individual rather than ruining their lives by publicly humiliating them. Cole states public shaming is a thing of the past and should find new ways to treat criminals, that to dox (digging up of a target s personal information) an individual is harmful to both parties, and stating that public shaming is counterproductive. An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth a collection of 282 laws ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is human nature for people to get even with whomever does them wrong. Hollywood the movie industry has made and is going to make countless moves on people getting their revenge. This human reaction not only distances oneself from the right to logic, but leaves no room for the chance of forgiveness. Without forgiveness, there is resentment towards a certain person or a multitude of people. Cole gives many examples of the counterproductive ways that deal with public shaming. For example, when someone is effected by a crime and they look for help from local police forces, but are rejected from such task force. This rejection now casts an ideology that all police officers do not care, in return leaving a disdainful image of all police officers. Now with the case Black Lives Matter, this organization preaches to the masses that police officers are patrolling the streets look for young black men to kill. This movement stemmed from no justice being brought forward to the accused criminal. There has been multiple incidents like the one previously stated which is why such a hatred has been casted upon all police forces in America. Rather than jailing the person responsible, a mere slap on the wrist is all that happens. Police officers all over America are scared to do their job, living in the shadows trying to keep themselves on the right side of the ledger. Trying to keep as much distance as possible away from groups trying to inflict ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Single System Design A Single System Design for Evaluation of Changes with Social Anxiety Client Goal Morris Oosterhoff (2016) states that there is evidence that many internalizing disorders, such as emotional or behavioral disorders, are developed in the childhood or late childhood stages of development. They go on to say that the parenting styles used to raise a child and over control may be linked to a child developing an internalizing disorder. The parenting and over control will interfere with the developing a healthy process of self efficacy and may undermine children s feelings creating anxiety (Morris Oosterhoff, 2016, p. 2). • 5. Child Rearing Practices Within The Society Humans are social beings, living off of interactions. Through these interactions, society is created. Society defines socials norms, taboos, traditions, and so on. Humans also derive certain feelings and beliefs like happiness, love, ethics, and culture from society. Unarguably, society is extremely powerful around the world. It does however alter from place to place. Some societies are based on the individual, while others value community. Not to mention, some societies are integrated and homogeneous while others are disintegrated and heterogeneous. Anthropologist, Dorothy Lee, finds there to be conflicts in western culture s disintegrated society, which she is looking to resolve. Lee goes on to explore the cultures of different homogeneous societies. Primarily, she placed her focus on child rearing practices within these different cultures. Homogeneous cultures believe that individual integrity goes hand in hand with structure. However, unlike heterogeneous cultures, they also signify authentic individual freedom. The key social problem addressed by Lee, is that the negligence of personal autonomy, results from an undeveloped community, failing the necessities of structure and freedom. She discussed the importance of respect, value of the being, and spontaneous functioning as elements of a prosperous community. Community is the harmony felt by a grouping of people. It is the creation of structure. Predominantly, a community consists of the same values, beliefs, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Economic abundance was the way of American life and it was the promise of progressive era (Foner 736). Women employment participation was increased so they were empowered. The increased discrimination and wealth inequality gave rise to the Socialist Party, who called for immediate reforms in the education policies, legislation to improve the life of labors and demanded democratic role of the economy through public ownership of industries (Foner 741). A Cross Country Analysis Of Public Debt Management Essay PUBLIC DEBT A Cross Country Analysis of Public Debt Management Strategies* Martin Melecky: Banking and Debt Management Department World Bank In order to finance expenditures on public goods and services that promote growth and increase nations welfare governments often have to borrow this decision of how much to borrow is that of fiscal policy which determines the targeted level of debt based on a sustainability analysis of government debt. The main cause for the increasing domestic debt and its utilization to finance revenue deficit, is the rigidity and the restricted scope for further expansion of the tax receipts and low nontax revenue to meet the growing non developmental expenditure. This rise in non developmental expenditure is attributed to interest payments and defense expenditure, accounting for nearly one third of total expenditure. It is essential to understand the composition of domestic debt, an important feature of fiscal policy. Internal debt, small savings, provident funds, and reserve funds and deposits are the main constituents. With respect to India, internal debt of the central Government is secured under the Consolidated Fund of India and that of the States in the case of the State Governments. A person could also be assisted to death through euthanasia by omission; this is when the patient is not provided with the appropriate things such as food or water. The most important aspect of doctor assisted suicide is whether it is voluntary, involuntary or non voluntary. The difference between non voluntary and involuntary is that non voluntary is when the patient does not request to be euthanized but they are. Involuntary euthanization is when a person specifically asks that they not be euthanized and they are. Although euthanasia is illegal some forms of it are still regularly practiced in today s healthcare system. Euthanasia dates back to as early as 1828 when the first law was written to outlaw anyone from providing a person with a dangerous weapon and or a harmful chemical that would knowingly be used in the taking of a person s own life. I plan on telling you what you should know about Stress and Stress Management. Lastly, I will discuss how Stress and Stress Management relate to success in my personal and professional life. Stress can be defined as the nonspecific response of the body to any demand made on it (Lamberton Minor, 2014, p. 288). Selecting this topic was very easy for me because the past few days have been very stressful. I have recently endured a stressful situation in which I have never encountered before. I recently interviewed for a new position, and survived the stress of the interview process. Two weeks later I received a call back offering me the position. This was great news, but the call came five minutes after I had arrived to work for my twelve hour shift. After, the five minute conversation I accepted the offer, but proceeded to tell her I would need to get back with her on the wage offer. The stress I felt in that moment was positive. According to our text this form of stress is known as eustress. Eustress is a good stress, not to mention it is desirable (Lamberton Minor, 2014). He says that America is lacking dignity and they are not fighting for all to have freedom. He wants America to right wrongs, serve men, and do justice. First, Lyndon claims that the issue of voting rights for African American citizens challenges America s values and denying this right to all citizens is an injustice. He justifies this claim throughout his speech. For example, he says in one part that it is the duty of Americans to right social wrongs and pursue justice for all citizen. Another example, he says there is no reason for anyone to be held back from voting and they are only held back because they are black. • 18. The Structure Of Eukaryotic Cells Describe the Structure of Eukaryotic Cells You can identify a eukaryotic cell by its encased nucleus, containing the majority of its DNA and organelles surrounded by a membrane. Plant and Animal cells have double membranes and a housed nucleus therefore they are eukaryotic cells; organisms which do not contain a double membrane and an encased nucleus are known as prokaryotes, e.g. bacteria. The eukaryotic cell is made up of many membrane bound organelles which all have a specific function. Nucleus The nucleus of a eukaryotic cell holds the majority of the cells DNA material, the nucleus is often referred to as the control centre of the cell as it uses the DNA to direct all other activities within the cell. The nucleus is a round, dense and the largest of the cells organelles, making it the easiest organelle to identify. The nucleus needs a protective membrane in order to keep the cytoplasm separate from the genetic material it holds. One of the main functions of the nucleus is that it is responsible for protein synthesis, which is vital for the process of life continuing and the production of hereditary characteristics within an organism. Summary of Protein Synthesis DNA is used indirectly as it must stay complete as a permanent stockpile of genetic information. One day in class, Mr. Conroy tries to collect the students prior knowledge. Pat Conroy peruses their psyche s by asking questions, starting from moderately hard, then gradually decreasing to basic knowledge. Everybody tell me at once, I exhorted. No one said a word. Several of the kids looked at one another and shrugged their shoulders (Conroy). This quotation clearly demonstrates that the government almost completely neglected the students of Yamacraw Island. The students cannot even comprehend the name of the land that they stand on, which focuses on survival in the modern world. Stephanie Owen and Isabel Sawhill, in their report published in 2013 by the Brookings Institution, mention for certain schools, majors, occupations and individuals, a college may not be a smart investment (page 209), to which I completely disagree. I will use the following paragraphs to substantiate my viewpoint that, college indeed is a smart investment irrespective of the occupations and majors, by citing examples, quotes, and some personal anecdotes. As John Stuart Mill once said and I quote the objective of universities is not to make skillful lawyers, physicians, or engineers, but capable and cultivated human beings . From the discussion in the class, we reached a similar conclusion about how college plays an important role in our lives and enlisted reasons for attending college. The lake house: a place where I enjoyed the fruits of having a friendship with the daughter of the family who owned the house. Oh, and redundant words just repeat the point. However, there may be times that redundancy is good writing, if it reduces the chances of the words being misread or misinterpreted. Looking at the first sentence, maybe I was concerned that not all readers would know the meaning of verbose , so I wrote several other similar words rather like a built in Thesaurus. Some readers may appreciate that they don t have to look the word up in a dictionary, but I ll beat that more readers were annoyed. Granted, I am someone that values dictionaries and if I find a word I don t know, I look it up. However, I can also provide a link for questionable words, and not belabor the point. • 29. US Income Tax Case Study The United States enacted IRC 385 in 1969, which gave tax authorities the power to determine if intercompany loans were, in substance, equity investments. The tax authorities believed then that characterising intercompany loans as equity would resolve the thin capitalisation issue. If the IRS could deem intercompany loans to be investments, it could treat the interest payments as dividends, which are not tax deductible. However, the tax authorities eventually determined these tools were inadequate. In 1989, Congress enacted (IRC) section 163(j) to address the concern of US earnings being stripped out in the form of interest payments on debt by a U.S. subsidiary to its foreign parent company. The concern was that the U.S. subsidiary would receive a U.S. tax deduction that reduces its U.S. taxable income while the interest paid to the foreign based parent corporation may not be subject to U.S. withholding tax (or subject to a reduced rate) under various income tax treaties. Dante s Journey Through Hell, Purgatory, And Heaven Around 1314, Dante Alighieri completed the Inferno, the first section of what would make up The Divine Comedy, a collection of three poems reflecting Dante s imaginative journey through Hell, Purgatory, and Heaven. In these poems, Dante the poet describes the pilgrimage that Dante the pilgrim must complete to attain salvation. With the Roman poet Virgil as his guide, Dante the pilgrim must purge himself of his own sinful nature, which can only be achieved by observing and learning from those that have landed themselves in either Hell, Purgatory, or Heaven. Described in Inferno, his excursion begins in Hell where Dante learns about the stories and the sufferings of many sinners. As Dante the pilgrim progresses through Hell it is clear that he assumes different personas. In some instances, Dante the pilgrim is portrayed as an empathetic man who pities the sinners while on other occasions, Dante the pilgrim is portrayed as a callous and indignant being in regard to the sinners. While Dante the pilgrim is depicted in these two completely different ways, it is the insensitive portrayal that more precisely depicts Dante the pilgrim, as that is his true identity when he leaves Hell.
