Essay On Sack Of Rome, And Concerning The Ruin Of Spain
In both The Expulsion from Spain, Alaric s Sack of Rome, and Concerning the Ruin of Britain, we
presented with historical examples of people being displaced by from their land. The Celts in Britain,
the Jews in Spain, and the Romans in Rome all faced opposition from an enemy (The Anglo Saxons,
the Spanish Monarchy, and the Visigoths, respectively). But what differentiates the three
circumstances from each other, besides timeline, is the circumstance and ultimate resolution. The
same time as Columbus was sailing the ocean to the Americas, Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand of
Spain officially exiled a large population of Jewish people. According to the author of the text, this
vicious edict, ...was prompted only in part by the greed of the king and the intensified nationalism of
the people who had just brought the crusade against the Muslim Moors to a glorious close. In
comparison to both the Romans and the Celts who were essential betrayed by groups that they had
previously allied with. For example, But the Visigoths [...] first entered into an alliance with the
Emperor Arcadius, but at a later time [...] under the leadership of Alaric, ... Show more content on

Sometimes movement can be voluntary and even an aggressive action taken in order gain land. But
from the perspective of those in the text we ve looked at, the Celts, Jews, Romans, were victims of
other groups trying to dislocate them, whether it was a monarchal force or an invading society. How
we learn about these events today (and form our opinions on them) is influenced by the point of view
of the primary sources that exist on the subject. The authors of both The Expulsion from Spain and
Concerning the Ruin of Britain wrote their documents as members of the displaced group, but Alaric s
Sack of Rome was written long after the actual events occurred. So, long term perception usually
hinges on the writer and their own closeness to what

Organizational Culture Aspects Essay
Organizational Culture Aspects
The impact of culture is very important when it comes to attempting and achieving personal goals and
business goals. Organizational cultures are the characteristics that are based on morals, values,
traditions and personnel behavior. Values are very important because people act out upon his or her
values, and values channel behavior. Saying and doing the right thing are two different things and if
managers are trying to set the culture they have to set the example. Physical manifestations such as
ethical codes or written rules are some ways the organization reflects its values. General Electric,
Lockheed Martin, Haliburton Company, Corporate Express, ACH Foods and Whole Foods are
corporations that strive to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lockheed Martin uses The Diversity Maturity Model (DMM) to measure employee s thoughts and
perceptions to a better work environment.
We all have heard the slogan We never forget who we are working for. Well, that is exactly what
Lockheed s mission is based on, What s good for people is good for business (2008). Many companies
are customer based and like General Electric they also depend upon the imaginations, intelligence and
curiosity of its employees (2008) to serve customers better. Diversity is accepted and welcomed at
Lockheed Martin because they rely heavily on teamwork. Ethical standards and behaviors are given to
all from top executive leadership positions to every level at the corporation. They have values they
rely on to respect each person s individuality. Do what is right, Respect others, Perform with
excellence.
Creating the right culture is not easy but there are programs that help alleviate conflicts. For example,
Lockheed uses the internet base software programs that give training on ethics and legal compliances.
This type of training can address different topics such as sexual harassment and with technology has
helped many companies in giving training where there is no time for seminars.

New York Times Paywall Strategic Considerations
1. Is the New York Times paywall working?
According to Chairman Sulzberger the goal of the paywall was to build the Times s digital
subscription base and develop a new robust consumer revenue stream, while maintaining its
significant digital advertising business. Secondary to the constraint of maintaining the ad business was
the requirement to maintain social buzz and branding.
To begin, the NYT wanted to increase future revenues for the paper and offset the inevitable decline of
its print revenue. This, in the short run, was a success. As described in Question #2; this added over
$81 million in previously unexploited revenue in just the first year, indicating significant potential for
future growth in digital subscription revenue. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We also found that consumers are unlikely to value a subscription if they can get 20 free articles
upfront. This is a much bigger determinant of whether and how much a customer will pay for a
subscription than the possibility of getting free articles through their social network or other referral
means.
Based on this, the NYT would be able to charge an additional $2.37 if they were to stop offering 20
free articles per month and an additional $1.01 per subscription if they stopped allowing leaks to their
paywall. However, making these changes would reduce page views and would have to be balanced
against losses in ad revenues. Another way the NYT could raise revenues is to reduce the cost of an all
device subscription. Based on the average subscription cost of $4.00, very few customers are opting
for the all platform subscription. However, our analysis shows that customers are willing to pay $5.46
($3.75 base subscription plus $1.71 in additional value) for a subscription open to all platforms.
Making this change could add $29.6M in revenue if all customers took this deal while increasing
subscriber page views due to increased access.
3. What is the long term goal of the New York Times in creating the paywall?
To understand the future of the NYT paywall, we looked at the newspaper s recent trends in
advertising and circulation revenues. In 2011, NYT Media Group derived 45% of its revenues from
circulation and 49% from advertising (Exhibit 2). The NYT has

The colour of the solution remained constant; a very beige colour.
The 100.0 ± 0.5 cm3 graduated cylinder indicated 5.0 ± 0.5 cm3 of oxygen gas within 25.00 ± 0.01 s,

The Use Of Motor Vehicles And Their Ownership, Social And...
It s a fact, commercial vehicle use around the world is expanding, both in the developed and
developing world. It is debatable whether the use, and more specifically ownership, of a passenger
vehicle is a need, or a want, but before we consider the implications surrounding this debate, we need
to discuss what these terms mean. Needs are things such as food, water, shelter, clothing, sleep, and
comfort that are necessary for human survival. Wants are things that may increase a person s feelings
of self worth, self fulfillment, independence, and personal potential. Note that defining what is a need,
and what is a want is not always black and white, there are many things, such as passenger vehicles,
that may fall somewhere in between these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was also found that fuel consumption and emissions were 20 45% higher during rush hour traffic
than in steady traffic conditions. Stopped traffic, especially during commute times, is not only a
frustration to drivers, but to business and corporations as well. Each year, traffic tie ups are estimated
to result in 1.2 billion hours of lost time, with productivity loss equal to approximately $30 billion in
the United States alone. On top of that, an estimated 2.2 billion gallons of gasoline are also lost. One
way that rush hour traffic can be reduced is through car pooling, or car sharing. An initiative in
Portland called Car Sharing Portland (CSP) has been shown as one way to effectively reduce road
traffic. Car sharing is when a group of individuals or businesses share their cars with other members,
who primarily use these vehicles for short, local trips. As a result of CSP, 26% of members sold their
own personal cars, and 53% were able to avoid purchasing their own vehicle. This is only one of
many innovative solutions that have been shown to be effective in reducing traffic congestion and
unnecessary motor vehicle ownership. When the true costs of commercial vehicles are considered, it is
easy to find solutions that can be beneficial both for you, and the environment.
The difficulty in determining whether commercial vehicle use or ownership is a need

Iran-Contra Affair Essay
Iran Contra: Crossing That Line I think everyone knew we were walking a very thin line. (Owen) Not
many Americans know the truth that lies behind the Iran Contra scandals. Most would be surprised to
know about the deception of our leaders. Still today, some truth of Iran Contra lies hidden in the
conscience of the people who organized it, aided it, and went through with it. It started with good
intentions, but soon was corrupted. Some may argue that we must do what we can to smother the
flame of communism, but I believe that deception, abuse of power and bloodshed is no way to go
about it. To fully understand Iran Contra, you must know the history behind it. Draper explains to us
that the Iranian Revolution of 1978 1979 brought the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This made it almost inevitable that something would go wrong, and it did. The arms deal was soon
found out and it was made the center of media attention. Ignoring this warning, McFarlene and North
traveled to Teheran personally to deliver missiles and talk to Iranian officials. North even brought
Iranians into the White House secretly at night to discuss the situation. ( Iran Contra ) The lies in Iran
Contra kept getting deeper and deeper, and Reagan and his administration refused to give up their
fight. But, they would never be able to keep such an intricate web of lies from being exposed. They
had already been in direct violation of the Boland amendment, which prohibited aid to Nicaraguan
rightists. As word leaked out about North s role in the operation, North and others lied under oath,
adding perjury and obstruction of justice to their other crimes. Exposure In Firewall, Walsh explains to

a cargo handler on board, was captured and paraded before television cameras. Three weeks later, a

exposure to Iran Contra, but it also showed the Reagan Administration breaking the policy of never

Computers And The Modern Home Computer
HOME COMPUTERS
D esktop computers were first developed on two fronts, Word Processing and Calculations. Although
the modern home computer can do both now with ease it wasn t always like this.
Word Processors were first designed to replace the classic typewriter, IBM coined the term Word
Processor in the late 60 s. The first word processors still had to print the text before it could be edited.
Later in the 70 s several companies were building various types of hardware based word processors;
they had small displays and limited editing capabilities. These new machines begun to replace
typewriters in offices in the early years, and started to replace household typewriters a few years later.

The Red Candle In Amy Tan s The Joy Luck Club
The great battle of books vs movies is never ending. A book provides insight of the characters feelings
while a movie needs to evoke emotions in a shorter time frame. The Joy Luck Club, written by Amy
Tan, was adapted into a film in 1993. Unlike the Harry Potter series Amy Tan cowrote the screenplay,
meaning she had the ultimate decision of what makes it in the movie. Comparing both was quite
interesting knowing that Amy Tan could ve kept The Red Candle story and kept a clean view of the
aunts in the story. The book The Joy Luck Club was a novel of intertwined stories of four women and
their daughters. Reading each story was like finding a puzzle piece that lead to fully understand the
characters. One of the important stories used in the book was The Red Candle. The Red Candle is a
the symbol of marriage in China and the marriage was considered complete if the candle remained
burning through their marriage night. Lindo Jong purposely blew out the candle and decided that she

to China for June Woo to visit her sisters. In contrast the movie made the group of women seem a bit
manipulative. When they found the twins instead of informing them of their mother s death, they
pretended that their mother was coming to visit rather than June. Leaving June to explaining that their
mother died years ago right after getting off the ship. The change made June s trip to China more
dramatic than it was in the book which wasn t completely necessary. I think the portrayal of the group
of women during that scene didn t do the book s description justice, All it did was add a dramatic

Theu.s. Dodd Frank Wall Street Reform And Consumer...
The pros and cons of many macroeconomic policies are frequently debated. In particular, the
Dodd Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act that was signed into law in July of 2010
sparked bitter controversy. Appropriately argued by American Banker s Capitol Hill reporter Victoria
Finkle, Dodd Frank is viewed as either a landmark law that reined in the biggest banks or an economy
crippling overreach that burdened small institutions. The Act intends to tighten financial regulation in
the U.S., hoping to prevent the repeat of another financial crisis. Impetus for Dodd Frank stemmed
from the bailout of financial institutions deemed too big to fail and the moral hazard it created. In
2008, intense pressure fell upon some of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mainly, Dodd Frank equipped the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) with Orderly
Liquidation Authority (OLA) provisions, authorizing the FDIC to safely wind down large and
complex financial firms that are failing. The OLA expects to minimize moral hazard and systemic
risk. Another considerable aspect of Dodd Frank is new rules calling for greater transparency in risky
dealings of exotic financial instruments: derivatives. The aim was to take these transactions out of the
shadows and make them visible to regulators and markets. Dodd Frank also paved the way for
monitoring the insurance industry by establishing a Federal Insurance Office in the Treasury.
Altogether, these were useful steps and tools of Dodd Frank. However, Economist Barry Eichengreen
points out that vesting the Fed with additional regulatory power and responsibility for the stability of
the financial system was a political nonstarter. The recently bailed out AIG was using money provided
by the Fed to pay retention bonuses totaling up to $6.4 million to 73 of its leading employees. Aware
of the bonus payments, the Fed claimed to be powerless in preventing them. Later, a darker fact
revealed that AIG was allowed to pay off obligations to Goldman Sachs using Fed bailout funds. The
Fed knew about these transactions, and even instructed AIG lawyers not to divulge to the Securities
and Exchange Commission (SEC) internal memos authorizing said payments to Goldman Sachs.

Without 100% deliverables on hand this could create a bullwhip in the supply chain. A bullwhip effect
is point to a lack of synchronization among supply chain members. This happens when changes in

causing shortages and delays. The current supply chain used between Riordan s China location and the
local Chinese company is the responsive supply chain process. One of the features of a responsive

customer specification requirements. The local Chinese company is a make to stock operation and
future demands for fans are forecasted based on previous three years sales. They use this method in
hopes that previous sales history will repeat itself without any significant changes. Implementing an
agile supply chain process would be beneficial for Riordan s China plant. Agile supply chain strategy
is to be responsible and flexible to customer needs. They are considered agile because they are
responsive to change and irregularity in demands of customers while reducing risk supply disorder on

In the late eighteen hundreds, the Reconstruction by Congress was overturned by the Supreme Court.
Segregation or separation by skin color was made a law which was adopted by private organizations,

those whom were deemed inferior in color. Some citizens accepted the law, as is, without question
while others believed it was their supreme right to remain separate without modification. Human

stories by Sylvia Plath the only author they were going to read the semester. When the students finally

students were whisked back to the time of their life where they had not experienced their trauma. Each
of these students went through something like Sylvia Plath that differentiated them from normal teens

returned. Sierra s family was devastated and Sierra was constantly contacting the detective even three
years later. When Sierra went to Belzhar she experienced time with her brother. Worst of all no one

Explain The Gothic Elements In Dr. Faustus And The Devil s...
This essay will explain the corresponding gothic elements that are seen in both the play Doctor
Faustus and the film The Devil s Advocate. These gothic elements that will be explained are the
supernatural aspects and the form of diction to create a more sinister mood. Both these gothic
elements will be examined to determine in which way they caused pandemonium throughout the main
characters lives.
When examining the supernatural aspects of both The Devil s Advocate and Doctor Faustus it is
imperative to come to terms with the fact that both have religious connections and that even religion
caused pandemonium in the lives of Faustus and Kevin Lomax. Faustus was a well educated man and

One of the most palpable diction aspects that we can examine is the use of foreshadowing. In both
Doctor Faustus and The Devil s Advocate there are similar warnings that may be seen as
foreshadowing. Mephastophilis says Think st thou that I, that saw the face of God, And tasted the
eternal joys of heaven, Am not tormented with ten thousand hells In being deprived of everlasting
bliss? (Act 1, scene 3, lines 75 78). Even though Mephastophilis is loyal to Lucifer it can be assumed
that he is not happy and that is why he warns Faustus. Lomax was also warned by his devil that he
should be taking care of his wife and to spend time with her but this was only a way Milton/Satan
used to subconsciously manipulate Lomax. Another warning that Lomax received can be found in the
words of Milton/Satan when they first met We kill you with kindness, that s our secret . Both Faustus
and Lomax suffered at the hands of their devils (they may not even have been aware of this) and these
examples of foreshadowing mentioned above are clear examples of their inevitable fates. Both Faustus
and Lomax s fates lead to damnation and at the end both tried to repent in their own ways, Faustus

Dreams In Gilphash And Enkidu s The Epic Of Gilgamesh
The great Babylonian tale The Epic of Gilgamesh is about Gilgamesh, the tyrannical king of Uruk,
who comes to understand his mortality through a series of trials and tribulations. Though he is well
aware of the fact that only the gods live for ever (Gilgamesh 71), he stops at nothing to defy his
destiny as a mortal being. While the Mesopotamian gods use a system of signs and symbolic patterns
to control the happenings in the living world, humans exist only to serve them and carry out their will.
The Epic of Gilgamesh proves this to be true. I will argue that in The Epic, Gilgamesh and Enkidu
both share a dependency on the divine agencies. As their dreams and journeys are driven by external
forces, we see the two heroes struggle to understand and accept the nature of the human condition.
In the ancient world, dreams were not seen as prophecies, but more as premonitions. In The Epic of
Gilgamesh, the Mesopotamian gods convey their will to Gilgamesh and Enkidu through their dreams.
Their dreams are driven by external forces that allude to their destinies. Before the heroes embark
upon their journey to the Cedar Forest, the god[s] had [already] decreed the destiny of Gilgamesh (70)
to him in a dream. The dream is deciphered by Enkidu, who tells his friend that the father of the gods
has given [him] kingship, such is [Gilgamesh s] destiny, everlasting life is not (70). Despite his
unexampled supremacy over the people (70), the king of Uruk is dissatisfied. As Gilgamesh

Abstract The utilization of PC systems for information transmissions has made the need of security.
The security of this intuitive media data should be possible with encryption or information concealing
calculations. To diminish the transmission time, the information pressure is necessary. Since couple of
years, an issue is to attempt to join pressure, encryption and information covering up in a solitary
stride. Picture security turns out to be progressively critical for some applications, e.g., secret
transmission, video reconnaissance, military and therapeutic applications. These days, the
transmission of pictures is an every day routine and it is important to locate a proficient approach to
transmit them over systems. They send Secret message over channel utilizing Cryptography and
Steganography calculations by AES (Advanced Encryption Standard). It is utilized to scramble the
information from plain content to figure content the other way around. There are two sorts of keys
accessible in the cryptography, symmetric and asymmetric. There are utilizing symmetric key which is
separated into two key, for example, private and open key. Open key is utilized for encryption and
private key is utilized for decoding. The reversible information concealing method is utilized to

Analysis Of The Book The Revolution By Jack Rakove
Revolutionaries, by Jack Rakove published in 2010 by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishing
Company, which is located in New York city, New York, brings a collection of stories of the founding
fathers together to create the story of the American Revloution. The thesis of the book is arguably that
the American Revolution may never have happened without the mishaps of the Boston Tea Party,
which in turn created a collection of colonial leaders. Rakove s book, in the early chapters, focus on
Samuel and John Adams, John Dickinson, and George Washington. The later sections talk about the
trio of key party leaders in the early Republic: Jefferson, Madison, and Hamilton. Throughout, we are
introduced to less commonly know people: Henry Laurens, Jack Laurens, Arthur Lee and George
Mason The account of the first part of Revolutionaries is one we all learn in elementary school: no
taxation without representation and the Boston Tea Party. We re too comfortable with this period, or at
least with how we know it: the characters and the events have the well worn quality that comes from
being handled too much. Benjamin Franklin with his half glasses sells us plumbing and tax advice.
Proud Sam Adams hawks beer. Rakove uses rich descriptions of the Founders daily lives to quicken
the plaster cast heroes. While the First Continental Congress (meeting in Philadelphia in the fall of
1774) was debating how to respond to harsh British sanctions against the city of Boston, delegate

Rhetorical Analysis of Building a Bridge Between Engineering and the Humanities
On February 14, 2016, the Chronicle of Higher Education published an essay by Julio M. Ottino and
Gary Saul Morson entitled Building a Bridge Between Engineering and the Humanities. Ottino and
Morson discuss the importance of the fields of engineering and the humanities. The purpose of the
essay is to show how engineering and the humanities are linked together and are needed
simultaneously. Even though, Morson and Ottino adopt a weak informal tone in the middle of their
argument; the authors end their argument strong by successfully using ethos and logos to appeal to
their audience, college and university faculty and administrators.
Ottino and Morson begin with an introduction of the topic of engineering and humanities. The authors
use a jovial tone to portray the current engineering field as booming and an essential part of
innovation. They use the appeal of logos to convey the current issues with humanities programs by
suggesting, The humanities, by contrast, are in peril, with fewer students each year. Morson and
Ottino show the current state of both the engineering and humanities fields in order to emanate a sense
of urgency to the reader. This introduction shows that there is a need to fix the humanities field
because it is slowly decreasing to nothing. Most college and university faculty know the current state
of the humanities field. However, Ottino and Morson start their

Textual Analysis Of The Movie Bye Birdie
In the beginning of the film the audience is first welcome with Rose Perez (Tina) dancing against the
back drop of Brooklyn brownstone stairs. This is supported by the film theme song Fight the Power by
Public enemy which is heard blaring in the background while the character is dancing. The tone of the
song seems quite aggressive if not rebellious, this was due to the fact that the song was going to be
used as a leitmotif throughout the film similar to other films like Indian jones (Steven Spielberg) and
even under the skin (Jonathan Glazer).
It was said that Spike Lee gained his stylistic inspiration from films Bye Bye birdie (George Birdie)

Scandal in Bohemia, Gender Roles Essay
Scandal in Bohemia, Gender Roles
In A Scandal in Bohemia, by Arthur Conan Doyle, society places women at an inferior level pushing
them to the background therefore never allowing us, the reader, to know them, except for Irene Adler
who shows the gender shift of the time period by becoming the main character in Sherlock Holmes
investigation and the story. A Scandal in Bohemia speaks about the famous detective Sherlock Holmes
and his adventure in retrieving a damaging photograph for a king from his ex mistress. In the society
Watson describes, the role of women is of little to no importance except for emphasis that focused on
the Kings mistress Irene Adler.

Rather than surrendering to the trickery of Sherlock Holmes, Irene Adler outsmarts him using his own
tricks and makes her escape right under his nose. The narrowly defined roles of women were evident
for the only means to discuss women in this story is through their relations with men. No woman, not
even Irene Adler, has her own story. After all in the end, even Irene Adler runs away with a man. Out
of the five female characters mentioned or referred to in this story, only one is given a name and a
personality. This lack of female representation shows how dominant males were in the society of the
story and in the society of the real world.
Irene Adler exemplified the massive shifts in gender roles that were occurring during this time in
many ways other than becoming the main character in the story along with being feared of having too
much power by the men. Throughout the story there were many hidden examples of how Irene Adler
was the main character of how the roles of gender were changing drastically in the period of this story.
Adler is the character of changing gender roles which is revealed through a division of female
physiology and male psychology. The king remarks that she had the face of the most beautiful women
and the mind of the most resolute men . She also freely crosses gender barriers by wearing men s
clothing, confessing that male costume is nothing new to me. I often take advantage of the freedom
which it gives. Adler s active

I chose to compare the United Arab Emirates to Panama because both countries are experiencing
significant economic growth even though many countries are experiencing problems with the
economy. Both countries are located in close proximity to important regional waterways. The United

is a waterway between the Gulf of Oman and the Persian Gulf. It is bordered by Iran, United Arab

Since 2008, the economy of the United Arab Emirates has been steadily increasing. In 2012, the
economy of the United Arab Emirates grew 4.4%. Panama also is experiencing a period of significant
economic growth. Over the past year, the economy of Panama grew 10%, putting Panama as one of
the fastest growing economies in the Latin American as well as in the world. I believe the reason for
such significant economic growth in both countries is mainly due to import/export of goods through
the waterways located by each country. United Arab Emirates had imports totaling 273.5 billion
dollars and exports totaling 314 billion in 2012. Panama s imported goods totaled 26.61 billion dollars
and exported goods totaled 18.87 billion dollars in 2012.
The top five products exported from the United Arab Emirates are crude petroleum, refined petroleum,
gold, petroleum gas, and raw aluminum. The top exported product is crude petroleum which accounts

PHIL 231: Practical Wisdom Lab I
September 11, 2017
Reading Assignment: I read one hundred percent of the assigned book, The Jesus Prayer: The Ancient
Desert Prayer that Tunes the Heart to God by Frederica Mathewes Green.
Précis
During the second through fifth century men and women, known as the Desert Fathers and Mothers
relocated to the deserts of Palestine and Egypt and fully devoted themselves to being in constant
communion with God. In their prolific writings, they explained that they were motivated, in part, by
Paul s admonition to pray without ceasing (see Romans 12:12, Ephesians 6:18, Colossians 4:2, I
Thessalonians 5:17). Reasoning that if he repeated this admonition to four bodies of Christians then he
believed that this depth of connection with God was attainable.
Frederica Mathewes Green has written a concise book explaining these early Desert Christian s quest
to pray without ceasing as an avenue to be in constant communion with God. The first third of her
book, The Jesus Prayer: The Ancient Desert Prayer that Tunes the Heart to God, offers a brief history,
theology, and spirituality of Orthodoxy to introduce the prayer practice commonly referred to as the
Jesus Prayer. The last two thirds uses a conversational question and answer format that takes the
reader through practical steps for adopting this prayer into their daily life.
A main focus of the book explains how Christians can use the Jesus Prayer to overcome one of the
biggest obstacles to prayer, which is the steady stream of thoughts, inner conversations, and emotions
that disrupt the mind and keep it unsettled. Remarkably, they discovered that intrusive distractions
during periods of prayer could be cured with a substitute thought a single, simple thought of prayer.
After experimenting with various short scriptures and petitions, this prayer, rooted in Scripture
emerged, Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me.
Thus, the Jesus Prayer is drawn from passages in the Gospels where people called on Jesus for mercy.
Specifically, the ten lepers, recorded in Luke 17:13, cried out, Jesus,

Given the rate at which smartphone are penetrating the market and component prices are declining by
2015 there will be, at least, 2 billion smart mobile devices in use globally. (Kenney, 2011).
Smartphone sales will be driven by two main factors, BI Intelligence says:
Replacement of nearly 5 billion dumb phones with smartphones (smartphones currently make up only
10% of handsets worldwide)
Price declines. The average price of a smartphone will drop from about $315 last year to $200 over the
next several years
This will obviously have a huge impact on the mobile Internet economy, which is already exploding
from the growth of smartphone penetration in the past few years.
Some other highlights from the report:
Smartphone unit sales will grow at nearly a 30% compound annual growth rate over the next five
years
Smartphones will represent about two thirds of all mobile phone purchases by 2016,
Smartphones will be a $320 billion market by 2016.

Alcoholism In Crash Into Me
Peer Pressure is frequently involved with excessive drinking on college campuses. Alcohol is
prominent in the college culture because it is presented at many social affairs and is part of many
gatherings with peers. Because peers are the most salient social referents in the college environment,
they are a potent influence on alcohol use. Most new acquaintances at college will be drinkers: recent
research indicating that four out of five college students drink. In addition, college peers tend to be
more approving of alcohol use. Exposure to such drinking often leads to increased alcohol use:

In the book Crash Into Me by Liz Seccuro, the audience is taught one of the leading consequence of
alcoholism; rape. Some of the major causes of Alcoholism in college are: availability of alcohol(Pg.
44), social pressure(Pg. 46), and genetic susceptibility to alcohol. Exploring the causes of alcoholism
helps lead to the conclusion that alcohol is a huge part of college culture and there needs to be a policy
to help prevent alcoholistic incidents (like what happened in Crash Into Me) from happening. One
policy that can help with the problem of alcoholism in college is; imposing liability to the social host
that is responsible for the underaged drinking at the party. This policy proposes the idea that social
hosts are in violation of: furnishing alcohol to a minor, and allowing underaged drinking to occur on
property that they control. Thus leading to the point that; the social host may be prosecuted by the
State under a criminal statute and face a fine or imprisonment for the criminal violation (Alcohol
Policy Information System n.d.). This policy can be considered neutral because it contains both
conservative and liberal aspects. The policy proposes more of a moral stance on who s responsible for
the events that happen at the party and the results of what the alcohol does to the underaged drinkers
after the party. The idea of this policy is that the social host is responsible(as well as the person who
committed the crime) and receives a fine or imprisonment for the violation of the law. This policy
would help alcoholism in college because the social hosts would be more vigilant about who drinks or
does drugs at a party that takes place on property that they control. For example; a Fraternity decides
to throw a party, the fraternity mother/father would be in charge of knowing who is drinking and
would attempt to imply precautions to avoid a violation of the law that would ultimately have them
face imprisonment

Benefits of Triphasic Contraceptives
The Benefits of Triphasic Contraceptives A review of the benefits of triphasic combined oral

women with an effective and effortless means of contraception for 50 years [1]. Taken by 17% of all
women of reproductive age, they are amongst the most widely prescribed drugs in the U.K. today[2].

After reaching maturation, the follicle undergoes ovulation; an event stimulated by a surge in
luteinising hormone release from the anterior pituitary gland (orange line). The remnant follicle (now
termed the corpus luteum) secretes progesterone (red line), which maintains the endometrial lining
and causes it to enter the luteal phase. With triphasic COC s, three incremental doses (phases 1 3) of
progestogen (blue line) with (pink line)/without (dashed pink line) a phase 2 dose increase in
oestrogen are delivered over 21 days. This is followed by a 7 day placebo period, which induces
menstruation (placebo). Exogenous delivery of hormones in this way achieves contraception with
significantly lower doses of progestogen, whilst crudely mimicking endogenous increases in oestrogen
and progesterone. As such, it was hypothesised that the triphasic regimen would afford various
benefits over monophasic COC s. Contraceptive efficacy: The remarkable contraceptive efficacy of
COC s has been known for many years. Of the triphasic COC s currently available for prescription in

Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream is the time of day during which the play s major action

that appear numerous times throughout the script. Four such words are moon, moonlight, moonshine,

Theseus looks to the moon to measure how soon he will wed his fiancé, Hippolyta. Hippolyta
responds in kind, commenting, And then the moon, like to a silver bow / New bent in heaven, shall
behold the night / Of our solemnities (1.1.7, 14). Not only does the bride speak of the moon as a
measurement (for when it becomes a silver bow, or crescent, they wed), but she also speaks of the
night when the moon wanes as a time of festive marriage ceremonies. It is important to take into
account the character of Hippolyta in this instance. Having Theseus wed Hippolyta, Queen of the
Amazons, takes away Hippolyta s power as a strong female. She, too, is counting the nights by the
waning of the moon until she is legitimately wed and under the control of a husband. The lesser
characters, below royalty in the social order, take part in illicit happenings veiled by night, as the
moon oversees the activities of May Day/Midsummer s Eve. The moon is considered a passive

the moon is truly an observer. Within a monologue by Titania, the fairy queen announces, Therefore

always been a driving factor since the financial system s inception. In the past, bank robberies were
the major concern as such notorious robbers as Jessie James along with Bonnie and Clyde were
infamous for their robbing sprees. However, today s bank robberies are less likely to be done in the
physical nature with advances in technology. Malware plus Spyware are now the threat to financial
security in personal and commercial capacities.
The financial sector has experienced enormous change over the past few decades. Evaluating the
changes that have transpired over the last 40 years is amazing. Transformation of the industry began in
the 1970 s when the Federal Reserve announced the U.S. dollar was moving away from the gold
standard and has culminated today with the latest technological applications. Henceforth, the ways

The Total Number Of Clinical Trials
The total number of clinical trials in Portugal has recently experienced a reduction in a
12
13 worrying trend revealing a significant loss of competitiveness in this field. Between 2006 and
14 2012 the number of trials decreased by 26%, i.e. from 160 to 118 studies. The trough in these
16 numbers only arrived in 2011, when just 88 studies took place. This trend shall only either
17
18 prevent or hinder the achievement of social and/or political benefits, such as the improvement
19
20 of medical and supportive care, job creation, the organization of health facilities and early
21 access to innovative medicines and research methodologies 1. The reasons for this decrease
22
23 stem from numerous aspects, including the cost and difficulties of attracting volunteers to
24
25 participate in such studies.
26
27
28 The effectiveness of a clinical trial depends on the size of its sample, sample homogeneity,
29
30 the similarity of the results and the differences among the mean values for each group. In this
31 kind of study, it proves very difficult to achieve the minimum participant numbers required to
32
33 obtain the ideal sample size. This situation occurs for various reasons including the study cost,
34
35 the low frequency of certain diseases, uncertainty about the effects of treatment, and among
36 others 2.
37
38
39
40 Considering this framework, certain actions might be implemented in order to reverse this

  • 2. Essay On Sack Of Rome, And Concerning The Ruin Of Spain In both The Expulsion from Spain, Alaric s Sack of Rome, and Concerning the Ruin of Britain, we presented with historical examples of people being displaced by from their land. The Celts in Britain, the Jews in Spain, and the Romans in Rome all faced opposition from an enemy (The Anglo Saxons, the Spanish Monarchy, and the Visigoths, respectively). But what differentiates the three circumstances from each other, besides timeline, is the circumstance and ultimate resolution. The same time as Columbus was sailing the ocean to the Americas, Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand of Spain officially exiled a large population of Jewish people. According to the author of the text, this vicious edict, ...was prompted only in part by the greed of the king and the intensified nationalism of the people who had just brought the crusade against the Muslim Moors to a glorious close. In comparison to both the Romans and the Celts who were essential betrayed by groups that they had previously allied with. For example, But the Visigoths [...] first entered into an alliance with the Emperor Arcadius, but at a later time [...] under the leadership of Alaric, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sometimes movement can be voluntary and even an aggressive action taken in order gain land. But from the perspective of those in the text we ve looked at, the Celts, Jews, Romans, were victims of other groups trying to dislocate them, whether it was a monarchal force or an invading society. How we learn about these events today (and form our opinions on them) is influenced by the point of view of the primary sources that exist on the subject. The authors of both The Expulsion from Spain and Concerning the Ruin of Britain wrote their documents as members of the displaced group, but Alaric s Sack of Rome was written long after the actual events occurred. Organizational cultures are the characteristics that are based on morals, values, traditions and personnel behavior. Values are very important because people act out upon his or her values, and values channel behavior. Saying and doing the right thing are two different things and if managers are trying to set the culture they have to set the example. Physical manifestations such as ethical codes or written rules are some ways the organization reflects its values. • 4. New York Times Paywall Strategic Considerations 1. Is the New York Times paywall working? According to Chairman Sulzberger the goal of the paywall was to build the Times s digital subscription base and develop a new robust consumer revenue stream, while maintaining its significant digital advertising business. Secondary to the constraint of maintaining the ad business was the requirement to maintain social buzz and branding. To begin, the NYT wanted to increase future revenues for the paper and offset the inevitable decline of its print revenue. This, in the short run, was a success. As described in Question #2; this added over $81 million in previously unexploited revenue in just the first year, indicating significant potential for future growth in digital subscription revenue. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We also found that consumers are unlikely to value a subscription if they can get 20 free articles upfront. This is a much bigger determinant of whether and how much a customer will pay for a subscription than the possibility of getting free articles through their social network or other referral means. Based on this, the NYT would be able to charge an additional $2.37 if they were to stop offering 20 free articles per month and an additional $1.01 per subscription if they stopped allowing leaks to their paywall. However, making these changes would reduce page views and would have to be balanced against losses in ad revenues. Another way the NYT could raise revenues is to reduce the cost of an all device subscription. Based on the average subscription cost of $4.00, very few customers are opting for the all platform subscription. It is debatable whether the use, and more specifically ownership, of a passenger vehicle is a need, or a want, but before we consider the implications surrounding this debate, we need to discuss what these terms mean. Needs are things such as food, water, shelter, clothing, sleep, and comfort that are necessary for human survival. Wants are things that may increase a person s feelings of self worth, self fulfillment, independence, and personal potential. Note that defining what is a need, and what is a want is not always black and white, there are many things, such as passenger vehicles, that may fall somewhere in between these ... Stopped traffic, especially during commute times, is not only a frustration to drivers, but to business and corporations as well. Each year, traffic tie ups are estimated to result in 1.2 billion hours of lost time, with productivity loss equal to approximately $30 billion in the United States alone. On top of that, an estimated 2.2 billion gallons of gasoline are also lost. One way that rush hour traffic can be reduced is through car pooling, or car sharing. An initiative in Portland called Car Sharing Portland (CSP) has been shown as one way to effectively reduce road traffic. Car sharing is when a group of individuals or businesses share their cars with other members, who primarily use these vehicles for short, local trips. As a result of CSP, 26% of members sold their own personal cars, and 53% were able to avoid purchasing their own vehicle. This is only one of many innovative solutions that have been shown to be effective in reducing traffic congestion and unnecessary motor vehicle ownership. A book provides insight of the characters feelings while a movie needs to evoke emotions in a shorter time frame. The Joy Luck Club, written by Amy Tan, was adapted into a film in 1993. The aim was to take these transactions out of the shadows and make them visible to regulators and markets. Dodd Frank also paved the way for monitoring the insurance industry by establishing a Federal Insurance Office in the Treasury. Altogether, these were useful steps and tools of Dodd Frank. Aware of the bonus payments, the Fed claimed to be powerless in preventing them. Later, a darker fact revealed that AIG was allowed to pay off obligations to Goldman Sachs using Fed bailout funds. While the Mesopotamian gods use a system of signs and symbolic patterns to control the happenings in the living world, humans exist only to serve them and carry out their will. The Epic of Gilgamesh proves this to be true. I will argue that in The Epic, Gilgamesh and Enkidu both share a dependency on the divine agencies. The thesis of the book is arguably that the American Revolution may never have happened without the mishaps of the Boston Tea Party, which in turn created a collection of colonial leaders. Rakove s book, in the early chapters, focus on Samuel and John Adams, John Dickinson, and George Washington. The later sections talk about the trio of key party leaders in the early Republic: Jefferson, Madison, and Hamilton. This is supported by the film theme song Fight the Power by Public enemy which is heard blaring in the background while the character is dancing. The tone of the song seems quite aggressive if not rebellious, this was due to the fact that the song was going to be used as a leitmotif throughout the film similar to other films like Indian jones (Steven Spielberg) and even under the skin (Jonathan Glazer). Scandal in Bohemia, Gender Roles Essay Scandal in Bohemia, Gender Roles In A Scandal in Bohemia, by Arthur Conan Doyle, society places women at an inferior level pushing them to the background therefore never allowing us, the reader, to know them, except for Irene Adler who shows the gender shift of the time period by becoming the main character in Sherlock Holmes investigation and the story. A Scandal in Bohemia speaks about the famous detective Sherlock Holmes and his adventure in retrieving a damaging photograph for a king from his ex mistress. In the society Watson describes, the role of women is of little to no importance except for emphasis that focused on the Kings mistress Irene Adler. Rather than surrendering to the trickery of Sherlock Holmes, Irene Adler outsmarts him using his own tricks and makes her escape right under his nose. The narrowly defined roles of women were evident for the only means to discuss women in this story is through their relations with men. No woman, not even Irene Adler, has her own story. After all in the end, even Irene Adler runs away with a man. Out of the five female characters mentioned or referred to in this story, only one is given a name and a personality. This lack of female representation shows how dominant males were in the society of the story and in the society of the real world. Irene Adler exemplified the massive shifts in gender roles that were occurring during this time in many ways other than becoming the main character in the story along with being feared of having too much power by the men. Throughout the story there were many hidden examples of how Irene Adler was the main character of how the roles of gender were changing drastically in the period of this story. Adler is the character of changing gender roles which is revealed through a division of female physiology and male psychology. The king remarks that she had the face of the most beautiful women and the mind of the most resolute men . I chose to compare the United Arab Emirates to Panama because both countries are experiencing significant economic growth even though many countries are experiencing problems with the economy. Both countries are located in close proximity to important regional waterways. The United Arab Emirates has the Straits of Hormuz, while Panama has the Panama Canal. The Strait of Hormuz is a waterway between the Gulf of Oman and the Persian Gulf. It is bordered by Iran, United Arab Emirates, and Oman Musandam Peninsula. About 20% of all the world s petroleum passes through the Strait of Hormuz. At its narrowest, it is 21 nautical miles wide. Since 2008, the economy of the United Arab Emirates has been steadily increasing. In 2012, the economy of the United Arab Emirates grew 4.4%. Panama also is experiencing a period of significant economic growth. Over the past year, the economy of Panama grew 10%, putting Panama as one of the fastest growing economies in the Latin American as well as in the world. I believe the reason for such significant economic growth in both countries is mainly due to import/export of goods through the waterways located by each country. United Arab Emirates had imports totaling 273.5 billion dollars and exports totaling 314 billion in 2012. Panama s imported goods totaled 26.61 billion dollars and exported goods totaled 18.87 billion dollars in 2012. Jesus Prayer Analysis PrĂ©cis The Jesus Prayer: The Ancient Desert Prayer that Tunes the Heart to God by Frederica Mathewes Green Paul Forbes PHIL 231: Practical Wisdom Lab I September 11, 2017 Reading Assignment: I read one hundred percent of the assigned book, The Jesus Prayer: The Ancient Desert Prayer that Tunes the Heart to God by Frederica Mathewes Green. PrĂ©cis During the second through fifth century men and women, known as the Desert Fathers and Mothers relocated to the deserts of Palestine and Egypt and fully devoted themselves to being in constant communion with God. In their prolific writings, they explained that they were motivated, in part, by Paul s admonition to pray without ceasing (see Romans 12:12, Ephesians 6:18, Colossians 4:2, I Thessalonians 5:17). Reasoning that if he repeated this admonition to four bodies of Christians then he believed that this depth of connection with God was attainable. Frederica Mathewes Green has written a concise book explaining these early Desert Christian s quest to pray without ceasing as an avenue to be in constant communion with God. The first third of her book, The Jesus Prayer: The Ancient Desert Prayer that Tunes the Heart to God, offers a brief history, theology, and spirituality of Orthodoxy to introduce the prayer practice commonly referred to as the Jesus Prayer. The last two thirds uses a conversational question and answer format that takes the reader through practical steps for adopting this prayer into their daily life. A main focus of the book explains how Christians can use the Jesus Prayer to overcome one of the biggest obstacles to prayer, which is the steady stream of thoughts, inner conversations, and emotions that disrupt the mind and keep it unsettled. Remarkably, they discovered that intrusive distractions during periods of prayer could be cured with a substitute thought a single, simple thought of prayer. After experimenting with various short scriptures and petitions, this prayer, rooted in Scripture emerged, Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me. Thus, the Jesus Prayer is drawn from passages in the Gospels where people called on Jesus for mercy. Specifically, the ten lepers, recorded in Luke 17:13, cried out, Jesus, ... Alcohol is prominent in the college culture because it is presented at many social affairs and is part of many gatherings with peers. Because peers are the most salient social referents in the college environment, they are a potent influence on alcohol use. Most new acquaintances at college will be drinkers: recent research indicating that four out of five college students drink. In addition, college peers tend to be more approving of alcohol use. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the book Crash Into Me by Liz Seccuro, the audience is taught one of the leading consequence of alcoholism; rape. Some of the major causes of Alcoholism in college are: availability of alcohol(Pg. 44), social pressure(Pg. 46), and genetic susceptibility to alcohol. Exploring the causes of alcoholism helps lead to the conclusion that alcohol is a huge part of college culture and there needs to be a policy to help prevent alcoholistic incidents (like what happened in Crash Into Me) from happening. One policy that can help with the problem of alcoholism in college is; imposing liability to the social host that is responsible for the underaged drinking at the party. This policy proposes the idea that social hosts are in violation of: furnishing alcohol to a minor, and allowing underaged drinking to occur on property that they control. Thus leading to the point that; the social host may be prosecuted by the State under a criminal statute and face a fine or imprisonment for the criminal violation (Alcohol Policy Information System n.d.). This policy can be considered neutral because it contains both conservative and liberal aspects. The policy proposes more of a moral stance on who s responsible for the events that happen at the party and the results of what the alcohol does to the underaged drinkers after the party. The idea of this policy is that the social host is responsible(as well as the person who committed the crime) and receives a fine or imprisonment for the violation of the law. This policy would help alcoholism in college because the social hosts would be more vigilant about who drinks or does drugs at a party that takes place on property that they control. For example; a Fraternity decides to throw a party, the fraternity mother/father would be in charge of knowing who is drinking and would attempt to imply precautions to avoid a violation of the law that would ultimately have them face imprisonment ... Introduction: Since their introduction in 1961, oestrogen progestogen combined oral contraceptive (COC) pills have provided women with an effective and effortless means of contraception for 50 years [1]. Taken by 17% of all women of reproductive age, they are amongst the most widely prescribed drugs in the U.K. today[2]. Hitherto, earlier COC formulations have been associated with harmful dose dependent side effects [3]. After reaching maturation, the follicle undergoes ovulation; an event stimulated by a surge in luteinising hormone release from the anterior pituitary gland (orange line). The remnant follicle (now termed the corpus luteum) secretes progesterone (red line), which maintains the endometrial lining and causes it to enter the luteal phase. With triphasic COC s, three incremental doses (phases 1 3) of progestogen (blue line) with (pink line)/without (dashed pink line) a phase 2 dose increase in oestrogen are delivered over 21 days. This is followed by a 7 day placebo period, which induces menstruation (placebo). Exogenous delivery of hormones in this way achieves contraception with significantly lower doses of progestogen, whilst crudely mimicking endogenous increases in oestrogen and progesterone. As such, it was hypothesised that the triphasic regimen would afford various benefits over monophasic COC s. Contraceptive efficacy: The remarkable contraceptive efficacy of COC s has been known for many years. Of the triphasic COC s currently available for prescription in the U.K. (table. 1), TriNovum was found to have a pearl index[1] (PI) value of 1.0 in a large phase III trial (n=4000) and Logynon a PI value of 0.33 (n=3546) [11 12]. Night in William Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream One of the recurring themes throughout Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream is the time of day during which the play s major action takes place: night. This being the case, there are certain words that are directly linked to this theme that appear numerous times throughout the script. Four such words are moon, moonlight, moonshine, and lunatic. Each comes from a feminine root that serves to identify the women in the play as prizes to be won and controlled. It becomes clear when looking up the term moon in the Oxford English Dictionary that the word is associated with the feminine. Hippolyta responds in kind, commenting, And then the moon, like to a silver bow / New bent in heaven, shall behold the night / Of our solemnities (1.1.7, 14). Not only does the bride speak of the moon as a measurement (for when it becomes a silver bow, or crescent, they wed), but she also speaks of the night when the moon wanes as a time of festive marriage ceremonies. It is important to take into account the character of Hippolyta in this instance. Having Theseus wed Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons, takes away Hippolyta s power as a strong female. She, too, is counting the nights by the waning of the moon until she is legitimately wed and under the control of a husband. The lesser characters, below royalty in the social order, take part in illicit happenings veiled by night, as the moon oversees the activities of May Day/Midsummer s Eve. The moon is considered a passive overseer or witness to (the actions of humankind) (Brown 1645). In the forest of Oberon and Titania, the moon is truly an observer. Within a monologue by Titania, the fairy queen announces, Therefore the moon, the governess of floods, / Pale in her anger, washes all the air, / That rheumatic diseases do abound (2.1.102, 29). Commerce drives our daily functions in acquiring necessities as well as desires. The debate for what is a necessity versus desire is not my point, but the reliance we have on the financial sector in order to function is. Since the days of bartering have been replaced with a monetary system in addition to technological advances, we have become as dependent upon the financial system as we are on oxygen. Accumulation of wealth has always been a driving factor since the financial system s inception. In the past, bank robberies were the major concern as such notorious robbers as Jessie James along with Bonnie and Clyde were infamous for their robbing sprees.
