The Odyssey Essay
The Odyssey is a Greek word meaning the tale of Odysseus. ; Odysseus, the King of Ithaca; husband
of Penelope; father of Telemachus; and son of Laertes was not able to return home after the war he
was once in: the Trojan War. Stuck on an island, he is presumed dead. In his absence, suitors for his
wife ruin his house with lavish feasts. This epic poem, by Homer, describes how Odysseus, with the
help of the gods, gets home and regains his kingship. Justice is always harsh in the Odyssey; there is
either no justice or a lot of it; the punishment however, is always severe. Justice in the Odyssey plays
out among these characters: Odysseus and his crew, the suitors, Poseidon, Aeolus, Hyperion,
Agamemnon, Aegisthus, Melanthius, Melantho, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Odysseus departed from Calypso s island, Poseidon noticed and wrecked havoc using his
powers of the sea: [Odysseus] heard the thunder of surf on a rocky coast. With an angry roar the great
seas were battering at the rocky land and all was veiled in spray. There were no coves, no harbours,
that would hold a ship; nothing but headlands jutting out, sheer rock and jagged reefs ; (pg. 81 82).
Also after the Phaeacians had helped Odysseus, Poseidon punished them for their kindness to his
enemy. Hyperion, the sun god, loved his cattle and told Odysseus and his crew not to eat them. When
the crew was starving, they slaughtered and ate Hyperion s cows. Hyperion demanded justice from the
gods: Father Zeus and you other blessed gods who live for ever, take vengeance on the followers of
Odysseus. . . They have criminally killed my cattle, the cattle that gave me such joy every day as I
climbed the starry sky and as I dropped down from heaven and sank once more to earth ; (pg. 190).
Zeus answered Hyperion and killed all of Odysseus crew. Aeolus had given Odysseus a large leather
bag, which contained the strong winds that could set them off course. Odysseus crew got curious and
opened the bag. All the strong winds hurried them off course, and they eventually landed back to
Aeolus island. They went to Aeolus and asked for help. However Aeolus was very mad for the crew s
carelessness and demanded that Odysseus and his crew leave the island: Get off this

Is There An Increased Risk Of Violence During War Veterans...
Is there an increased risk of violence in war veterans suffering with post traumatic stress disorder?
Many researchers believe that individuals with PTSD are on a high risk of violence. Although, all
research studies are not on the same page regarding this proclamation. The research findings published
on the U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs say that despite of PTSD being associated with increased
risk of violence, most veterans and non veterans have never engaged in violence. When factors like
alcohol and drug misuse, additional psychiatric disorders or younger age are considered, the
association between PTSD and violence is decreased [39].
To find out the association between the risk of violence and PTSD in war veterans, most of the clinical
trials have been conducted on Vietnam War veterans and Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans. Many
researches claim that there is strong evidence that anger and violence are prevalent problems in
Vietnam combat veterans with PTSD [46].
A May 2001 comparative study conducted on Vietnam veterans with chronic combat related PTSD
and without PTSD stated that chronic PTSD patients showed higher levels of self reported aggression
and a significantly higher incidence of potentially dangerous firearm related behaviors than
comparison subjects [47].
Domestic violence or partner violence is a serious public health problem in the military veterans with
PTSD. For veterans, PTSD is strong factor that largely accounts for the relationship between

Infection Prevention Practice Summary
In my present role of in patient transplant coordinator, I round with the transplant surgical team daily.
The interdisciplinary team is aggressively looking for opportunities to minimizing opportunistic
infections for example: de escalating antibiotics, removing bladder catheters, as well as removing
central lines. If the patient is a hard stick, a peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) is placed. A
study by Rutkoff, (2014) mentioned that an integration of antimicrobial PICCs into the current
infection prevention practices should be practiced for reduction central line associated blood stream
infections.

Case Study Of Roug Rough Cut Capacity Planning
1. INTRODUCTION
Consumer demand for a product can be fulfilled entirely in the master production schedule if
supported by production capacity according to production requirements. Master production schedule
can be easily realized if consumer demand is constant, but in fact companies often experience
fluctuations in the demand of consumers who tend to be unstable. Based on research Liske F. (2012)
that capacity planning is done well can meet the demand of existing customers as well as be able to
increase the company s revenue. Based on research Ria Amalia (2012) that consumer demand can be
met by adding machines at work center that is experiencing a shortage of capacity.
PT. XYZ is a plastics company in Indonesia, are often unable to meet consumer demand for

Chesley B. Sullenberger s The Banality Of Heroism
The weight of the world was on his shoulders. One wrong move and many could die, but one correct
move and he could save countless numbers of people. He could panic or run from his trouble, or he
could embrace it. Chesley B. Sully Sullenberger was a true hero while flying and landing a plane with
no working engines. In the two texts, The Banality of Heroism , and , A Hudson River Hero , he had to
make a quick, stressful decision, he was selfless, and he remained brave and calm in time of panic.
Sully is a hero because he had to make a split second decision that would result in lives saved or lost.
In the text, The Banality of Heroism , the author has several ideas of what exactly heroism is, Heroism
may be an instantaneous reaction to a situation . This relates to Sully because he could have made the
wrong decision by landing the plane in the wrong spot and hurt many people. However, he focused
and made a good decision. In the text, A Hudson River Hero , Sullenberger knew that he had to make
a quick decision in order to get the plane out of the air safely. This confirms that Sully is a hero
because he had to face the odds and try to land the plane ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

everything he had done to land the plane without jeopardizing lives, Sullenberger was checking to be

Isaiah 40-66
There are several challenges with the historical background and political setting of Isaiah 40 66
concerning author, date, time and situation of life for the Jews. LaSor notes that traditional views that
Isaiah authored the entire book are held by very few scholars. More and more critics are accepting a
two book theory with chapters 1 39 as book one and chapters 40 66 as book two. Moreover, there are
further refinements resulting in three books, dividing chapters 40 66 into 40 55 (Deutero Isaiah) and
56 66 (Trito Isaiah). (LaSor, William 1996., 281)
Since the argument for multiple authorships and time periods directly affect the historical and political
setting, it is necessary to briefly review them now. As noted by Laser, Internal evidence ... Show more

This would be sufficient to account for the introduction of later viewpoints resonating with its origins.
(LaSor, William 1996., 285)
Thus, the historical and political setting for Isaiah 40 66 could be spread across the rule of three
dominant nations, Assyria, Babylon, and Persia. Boadt notes that while the theme of Deutero Isaiah
was Consolation, the overall theme of the book centered on God as the Holy One of Israel; foreign
rule was God s disciplinary tool, and God s makes Zion the Divine dwelling place. (Boadt 1984, 417)
The IDB provides a brief overview of Israel s political setting after the invasions of Assyria in the first
century.
From the late 8th to the late 2nd cent., under Assyrian, Babylonian, Persian, and Greek domination,
the sovereignty of monarchic Israel was confined to Jerusalem and its hinterland. This small colonial
sovereignty was embodied first in a vassal monarchy, then in an exiled monarchy, which was briefly
restored, then in a monarchic priesthood. (Sakenfeld 2006 2009,

ZBMS Sdn. Bhd. manages its knowledge in order to remain competitive amongst the construction
industry. Probst, Raub Romhardt (1999, p.1) stressed that companies must learn to manage their

knowledge management is concerned with the exploitation and development of the knowledge assets

Analysis Of I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud
Analysis of; I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud by William Wordsworth
The poem I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud was written by William Wordsworth. It has a strong rhyming
scheme and rhymes with every second line (1 and 3, 2 and 4) apart from the last two lines of each
stanza, which rhyme together. The poem appears to be about a man who had found himself in a bad
mood. The man uses old, happy memories to cheer him up whilst he is in these moods.
The first stanza starts off with a lonely man, wandering around without much direction or emotion,
quite quickly this progresses to hope and fondness, almost like a memory has been replayed in the
mind of the man, lifting his spirits. This gives a potential background story to the man without directly
mentioning anything, therefore adding meaning. The line that seems to capture this sudden change of
heart are, when all at once I saw a crowd . Throughout this first stanza the writer simultaneously uses
both imagery and personification. The effect that this has on the reader is that they can visualise easier
when they are able to compare inanimate objects to emotions and actions they have done themselves.
This creates a connection with the reader to the poem.
The second stanza moves straight into the next topic, which is the stars and the sky that holds them.
However the transition is not awkward thanks to the use of the word continuous which implies that he
is only adding to the picture and not making anew. The words chosen express

Personal Reflection Essay
As the first five weeks of Writing 39B have passed, I believe that I have made some improvements in
my writing as a result of the feedback from the professor, the multiple writing assignments, and
reading the Anteater s Guide to Writing and Rhetoric. Although I can still improve in all facets of my
writing, the progress I have made so far was very much needed. One of the stages of my development
took place in class. Although I was a bit reluctant and shy to participate at times in class, I learned a
lot. The way the professor analyzed the 9/11 conspiracy video and some of the chapters in the The
United States of Paranoia taught me how to see the author s purpose in creating the text and how the
author appealed to the audience by presenting the text in different mediums. The mini group work
done almost daily in class also helped me think more analytically about each text, which helped me
writing my final RA. One of the class works was analyzing the opening paragraph of The
Metamorphis by Franz Kafka. This task allowed me to see how the author s word choice can change
the complete tone of the text and how the audience reacts differently to each type of tone. At the times
in which I did participate, I felt that I contributed valuable information as the professor would usually
expand on my comment in a positive way. In addition, participating also allowed me to feel confident
about my ideas and thought process which enabled me to feel confident writing my assignments. From
the very first RIP assignment, the feedback I ve received helped in aiding my final RA. Prior to this
class, I didn t truly know how to be specific. Whether this be with a claim or audience, I was
describing things broadly. In my RIP #1, where I had to identify a specific group with a shared
interest. The group that I created was students in high school or college who are obsessed with social
media. With the feedback, I learned that I could ve made it more specific by choosing just high school
students not including college student and only Snapchat, and no other social media platforms.
Moving on, a drastic change in my writing can be seen in the differences between CR #1 and CR #2.
In CR #1, I explain that the author carries a casual yet

Functionalism And Its Impact On Physical Body Essay
In the philosophy of mind, there are many theories that try to resolve the mind body problem. That is,
how does the mental or consciousness interact with our physical body? Do they interact at all? Are
they two separate entities or one in the same? Many theories try to answer these types of questions,
but the one I will be focusing on is role functionalism. When mentioning functionalism throughout, I
will be referring to role functionalism. Functionalism is a theory that says mental states can be defined
by their function. So, we can identify mental states with their functional states. We can come to know
the function of a mental state through examining its inputs, outputs, and relation to other mental states.
I will show how this theory is correct by comparing it to the identity theory. I will begin by clarifying
a few important terms in relation to functionalism, lay out the theory, and then present an objection.
Lastly, I will present a possible functionalist reply to the objection and conclude. To begin,
functionalism is a theory in the philosophy of mind that defines mental states through its inputs,
outputs, and causal relation to other mental states, or its function (Jackson,4). The inputs are things
you perceive in the world and the output is how you react or your behavior. A behaviorist is only
concerned with inputs and outputs when defining mental states, whereas a functionalist takes it a step
further. They also examine the casual relationship to other mental

Hearing Loss Intervention
In today s time, there is a need for new prevention, assessment, and intervention strategies for adults
experiencing hearing loss accompanied by, or at risk for, dementia (Pichora Fuller, 2015). Research
has found that individuals with hearing loss are at risk for developing dementia, and dementia is also
more prevalent in individuals with dementia. Patients with dementia are recognized at different stages,
and the Pichora Fuller questions the possibility of earlier and better health care slowing the
progression of, or even completely deterring, dementia. Often, those with high cognitive abilities are
involved in social activities, some type of physical activities, may be a musician, or possess good
cognitive skills, such as being bilingual. However, individuals that experience poor hearing often are
hindered when it comes to participating in such activities, which is thought to be one significant link
between dementia and hearing loss. When assessing the connection between hearing loss and
cognitive impairment, two main ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most common form of hearing rehabilitation is hearing aids. The issue arises when the oldest old
adults do not have access to hearing aids, which could be due to financial issues or because they are
unable to go to an audiologist s clinic or office. Future research is needed in the areas of prevention,
assessment, and intervention. A greatly structured research project is needed for determining how to
prevent or slow dementia. For assessment, establishing multi disciplinary teams willing to share their
knowledge of cognition and hearing is critical. More research is needed for intervention to determine
the burden that is placed on a caregiver, as well as how intervention could assist caregivers faced with
taking care of an oldest old patient with a hearing loss and dementia.

Heroic Actions In The Odyssey
In the Odyssey, Odysseus is portrayed as an hero after the Trojan war, however, he showed signs of
villainous acts throughout the story that were overshadowed by his, questionably, heroic actions. An
example would be when he fought the cyclops, Polyphemus. Instead of leaving peacefully, he let his
anger cloud his vision and taunted the giant by saying O Cyclops! Would you feast on my
companions? Puny am I in Caveman s hands? How do you like the beating that we gave, you damned
cannibal! Eater of guess under your roof! Zeus and the gods have paid you! (Odyssey, P.g 383) Due to
his taunt, his boat was washed back on shore. Even after his crewmates warned for him to stop, he
continued and told the cyclops who he was and where he was from. When

Cheating and Plagiarism
The Plague of Plagiarism
Simply defined, the word plagiarism means the unauthorized use of the language and thoughts of
another author and the representation of them as one s own ( Plagiarism ). While many students
understand and comprehend the first clause of this definition, many encounter problems with the
second part the thoughts part. Many students in today s educational system are frequently unable to
develop their own thoughts, opinions, and ideas relating to the subject matter that they are studying.
However, when people at a university are educated according to the ways set forth by John Henry
Newman in The Idea of a University, their ability to create original concepts would be cultivated to the

. . followed by parental pressure (Clayton 187). The solution to this problem lies within the framework
for education laid by John Henry Newman. Newman states that students at a university should and
will learn to respect others as well as develop a clear atmosphere of thought (48). This will then lead
them to be able to think more independently and therefore rely more on their own intellectual skills
than those of others. If and when the ideals of John Henry Newman are followed rather closely, the
ability of all students to reason autonomously will increase dramatically and, thereby, decrease the
amount of cheating.
Since the ultimate purpose of a university is to prepare people to be good citizens in society (Newman
48), and according to Jeffrey Hart, students in a university should become citizens after they complete
college (131), if cheating is minimized at university level, it will also reduce in the society. In this
context, citizens should be wholesome people who are able to give back to society, the honesty they
have learned in the university; once they are a part of it. The university, also, has an aim of purifying
the national taste and raising the intellectual tone of society as a whole (Newman 49). Cheating and
plagiarism are not a part of this noble aim, neither of them improves any part of society. On the
contrary, they are a boar on society, a plague that must

His idea of planning does not differ from what I learned in class; however, if I had to teach this topic

therefore, they must focus on providing a fun environment for the players that do decide to play for
them. I really enjoyed this experience because it made me want to branch out and gain as much
experience as I can. Coach Smith started right where I am at and is currently in the process of working
his way up through the ranks, hoping to reach the division one level eventually. As he pushed his way
from quality control coach here at Indiana, to coach at Marian University, and then through multiple
division three schools, Coach Smith took a small amount of knowledge from every position he held.

American Social Psychologist Leon Festinger (1919-1989),
American social psychologist Leon Festinger (1919 1989), developed the theory of cognitive
dissonance. The premises of this theory suggest that attitudes and behaviors will remain in harmony.
Festinger believed that human beings want consistency with their thoughts and actions and attempt to
lessen the tension and avoid discrepancies (Mcleod, 2014). The article by Taylor (2007) does a good
job discussing the challenges between personal values, and professional values. The article explains
how the social worker must align these values and conflicts to make effective and ethical decisions.

The Pros And Cons Of The Bolsheviks
The Bolsheviks were an organization of professional revolutionaries. They were governed by quasi
military discipline and democratic centralism. The principle of democratic centralism became more
centralized and less democratic over time. The beliefs and practices of the Bolsheviks are called
Bolshevism. Vladimir Lenin was the founder of the Bolsheviks. The Bolsheviks were an important
factor in the Russian Revolution. ( New World Encyclopedia 1) Between March and May, 1903, Julius
Martov and Vladimir Lenin had their first disagreement on who the party memberships should be
open to. Lenin thought the party membership should be limited to only a small core of professional
revolutionaries. Although Martov agreed that the membership should be open to professional
revolutionaries, he also thought it should be open to sympathizers, revolutionary workers, and other
travellers. This is where they disagreed. Their disagreement did not split the party until August 1903 at
the Second Congress of the RSDLP. Lenin and Martov s disagreement at first seemed based at
personal conflicts. One of them being Lenin insisting that less active editorial board members should
be dropped. Martov supported one of Lenin s oppositions the Organizing Committee of the Congress.

My Reflection Of My Fitness Program
I really enjoyed my fitness program because thanks to it I realized that I am good at doing physical
performance when I am motivated. In this occasion, I was motivated because when I set myself an
objective I make sure I accomplish it or at least I try very hard to accomplish it. Also, this was an
important work that I had to do for sports (it was practically the whole grading for this partial).
I liked this activity, and thanks to it I was able to rediscover myself an adapt a healthier lifestyle. This
activity showed me that I can do whatever I propose if I am motivated. It also showed me that I can be
a persistent person. It showed me that I can be a persistent person because sometimes, when doing my
fitness plan, I thought that the exercises were really hard, but I didn t give up. I worked hard, and I
persist on doing the exercises not matter how harder they were.
I think that I achieved my goals because I have more flexibility, my core muscles are stronger and I
consider that my cardiovascular system is in good shape. I can affirm this because now I have a better
performance in any physical activity than before. For example, last weekend we went to do yoga with

There are two main beaches, North Broulee and South Broulee. As well as a point break known as
Pink Rocks, which at the right time provides barrelling waves of heaven. At South Broulee you ll find
peaceful beach breaks stretching across the shore. South Broulee swells can span from 2 feet through
to a respectable 12, feet peeling both left and right. Paddling out the back is made easy by jumping
into a rip next to the rocky river mouth. Once you ve found yourself out the back there is an unlimited
selection of engaging and charming waves. As you paddle onto the wave you ll experience the rush of
pleasure as it propels you forwards, then the craving for adrenaline fix will be satisfied as you start
shredding the face. The waves at South Broulee take a while to steepen up and eventually break
without barrelling. The wave provides a lengthy ride, allowing you to bottom turn and continue to
carve your way across the face. On the other hand if you re a Layback surfer, the wave has plenty of
face to hang ten or try some funky new tricks to impress the beach onlookers. As the population of

Workers Need a Living Wage Essay
It s 6:00am and that annoying beep of your alarm is ringing in your ears. You get up, start the coffee
maker, shower, and get dressed in your work attire. You start your car and back out of your drive way
before noticing that you re running on the last fumes of your tank. You drive to nearest gas station
where you see gas prices have, once again, risen.
The aforementioned scenario is only one of many examples of the depreciating value of the dollar. In
fact, in the past five years, the CPI U has increased from 168.8 to 190.7 that s a 12.97% inflationary
increase (Historical CPI)! Sure, to Corporate Joe in his fancy sports car, a few extra pennies for gas isn
t much, but what about the school janitor who is trying to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to mollify the harsh realities of today s unacceptable minimum wage, it must be taken upon
the workers, themselves to fight for equality in the corporate world. And they have done just that.
ACORN, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, is the nation s largest
community organization of low and moderate income families, working together for social justice and
stronger communities. Since 1970, ACORN has grown to more than 175,000 member families,
organized in 850 neighborhood chapters in 75 cities across the U.S. and in cities in Canada, the
Dominican Republic and Peru (Acorn.org). ACORN is a big proponent of the living wage and has
fought (and won) for many cities including San Francisco, San Jose, Oakland, and Chicago to only
name a few. The living wage was introduced in order to provide workers with a wage that can endure
the continuously increasing cost of living. So, here s the question: How do the lifestyles of the 3
working classes, lower, middle, and upper, differ from one to another? Does the enormous discrepancy
between incomes call for completely different lifestyles? I will introduce different aspects of life and
compare the differences among each class.

The Circle Of Life Sequoia Analysis
The Manifest Destiny in the United States ended at the coast of California for there was no more land
ready to be discovered. Having reached the end of the Manifest Destiny the Americans began to settle
throughout California and due to the settlements, it caused the creation of different culture and history
to appear and vary within each region. As a result, certain regions like Sacramento became rich with
culture and history. In the reading of Notes from a Native Daughter by Didion and the painting titled
The Circle of Life, Sequoia by Roland Lee both talked about the preservation of the history of
California through their writing and visuals. However, these two sources may seem different, but they
are much similar because of the messages ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, the similarity of the reading and painting revolves around the idea of preserving the
history of California. In the painting, it concentrates on the idea of the preservation of California s
history through the visual of the giant sequoia tree that acts as the historian of the state. In the reading,
it adds onto the idea of preserving the history of the state through Didion s address of Sacramento s
transition from an agriculture to a more technological based region. Having Didion address this issue,
this shows her concern for preserving the history of Sacramento. Being Sacramento the capital of
California it represents the state because of the migration influx that caused the region to diverse with
culture and diversity just like the entirety of the state, therefore, creates this notion of Sacramento
being the real California. On a different note, the painting created a sense of pride of being
Californians. In the painting, the giant sequoia adds onto the uniqueness of California because the
trees are only found in California according to an online article titled Giant Sequoias and Redwoods:
The Largest and Tallest Trees that states that giant sequoias are found, in 77 scattered groves in
Northern California , (Szalay). Nevertheless, having the giant sequoias found mostly in California
creates a symbol of uniqueness for the state. This idea of having pride

Soldiers Have Been The Most Significant Part Of An...
Ordinary Soldiers have been the most significant part of an armies structure throughout military
history. They have not only been essential in the continued development of warfare but have also
shown great determination when facing the hardest struggles in combat and an ability to complete
their objectives. However, even though the ordinary soldier continues to fight and to carry out his
orders, he is put through some of the hardest traumas and hardships that the world has ever seen or
known. As a result of this, people question why soldiers continue to risk themselves physically and
mentally in the affairs of others. Although soldiers have been put through extreme ordeals in combat
throughout military history, the ordinary soldier continues to fight for his sense of duty to his country,
his belief in the cause, and his comrades in arms; furthermore, these reasons transformed throughout
the centuries, as a result of influences such as military, political, and societal.
Even though soldiers are constantly exposed to extreme trauma and ordeal, they still fight for a sense
of duty to their state. For example, French troops during the French Revolution fought for their sense
of duty to the establishment of a free France. This feeling of responsibility to the state can be seen in
Howard s War In European History when it is said that French troops were fighting as free men to
defend freedom (79). Also, a sense of duty to the state can be seen in ordinary French soldiers

Norse Mythology Report
This essay is written for English 503 and the subject is Norse Mythology. The main sources of our
knowledge about Norse Mythology are from the Poetic Edda and the Prose Edda. Edda is Icelandic for
saga and these stories are often to as The Sagas. The Prose Edda was written by Snorri Sturluson from
Iceland around the year 1200. Snorri begins the prologue of the book where he explains his
understanding of the origin of heathen science. Prose Edda itself is based on belief in the old Nordic
gods or heathen, and recounts and explains the faith of men before they were Christian. The book is
divided into three main parts, but they are called the Gylfaginning, Skaldskaparmal and Hattatal. In
the first section, Gylfaginning (The delusion of King ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He had a golden ring that could multiply into eight other rings, there we can see similarities with the
story The lord of the rings after John Ronald Reuel Tolkien, in the book there is one ring who rules
them all and together they are nine rings, three were given to the elves, nine to the humans and seven
to the dwarfs but there was one that ruled them all witch is very similar to Odin s ring because it was
one that multiplied. Also all of the dwarfs names in the lord of the ring they come from prophecy of
the seeress in Snorri s Prose Edda. Odin only has one eye because he gave it away for a drink from
Mimir s magic well. It was told that Mimir was the wisest of them all and it was told that anyone who
would drink from the well would gain the wisdom of Mimir. Odin was desperate to get wiser and
powerful so he returned his eye for a drink from the well. He was now known for being the wisest god
of them all and the one with one eye (Norse Mythology, 2010). Odin is related with various other gods
in Indo European religions. For Greeks, it is Zeus. Together, they should be attributed to destroy. Both
have unfaithful wives, what shows up best in that they have many children with other women,
although Zeus has more. Both gods are highly migratory and often hiding behind pseudonyms and
disguise. Thor is the strongest one, he is son of Odin. He is also known in German mythology as well.

Tres Riches Heures Of Jean Duc De Berry AndPoet On A...
To begin, the two paintings have in common is the obvious aspects of the settings being outside. Also,
they both show sign of civilization with people being the subject and having some sort of housing in
the works. February, Tres Riches Heures of Jean Duc de Berry and Poet on a Mountain Top , also have
some similarities in their brush work, there is amazing in the nature and settings of these two
paintings. Finally, both works have some type of inscription on them. These two pieces do not have
much in common aside from a few things, their contrasts will be up for discussion next.
The first difference spotted between these two is that Poet on a Mountain Top , is in black and white,
and February, Tres Riches Heures of Jean Duc de Berry is painted in color. Aside from that, February,
Tres Riches Heures of Jean Duc de Berry , is part of a prayer book and Poet on a Mountain Top is a
literati painting, meaning that it was not painted for money but was just meant for someone else to
have. Next, Poet on a Mountain Top has a scholar in the picture finding the spirit in nature, and,
February, Tres Riches Heures of Jean Duc de Berry expresses what it is like to a peasant in the winter.
Also, Poet on a Mountain Top has a poem inscribed on it, while, February, Tres Riches Heures of Jean
Duc de Berry has a zodiac calendar inscribed on the top. In, February, Tres Riches Heures of Jean Duc
de Berry it gives more of a depressing feel with the peasants losing their crops

Character Analysis Of To Build A Fire By Jack London
It was a clear day, and yet there seemed an intangible pall over the face of things, a subtle gloom that
made the day dark, and that was due to the absence of the sun. Throughout Jack London s To Build a
Fire there is a sense of slow burning dread as readers are introduced to the man and his gradual, but
inevitable death, brought upon by himself. London s short story opens with the main character, a man,
foolishly embarking on the long journey back to camp in the freezing Yukon, accompanied only by a
husky mix. It is in this unforgivingly harsh weather that the man meets his fate, at his own hand. From
the beginning of the story, the man displays flawed behaviors and personality traits that render him
unable to survive on his solo journey in the Yukon, becoming his own worst enemy. One of the most
prominent facets of the man s personality is his overwhelming arrogance. The man is a newcomer to
the Yukon territory or chechaquo , and is inexperienced in the customs of the land. The man believes
that he will be unaffected by the harsh conditions and does not seem to grasp the grave reality of the
situation. This characteristic is displayed early in the story, when the man rebuffs the old timer s
warning advice and later mocks the old man and his caution of the danger of traveling in the freezing
temperatures, especially without a partner. Those old timers are rather womanish, some of them, he
thought (1210). Despite the likelihood that the old timer has spent his lifetime in the area, the man
considers his advice to be weak and believes, arrogantly, that he is superior in his masculinity and
abilities. Eventually, the man realizes that he should have listened to the words of the old man in
Sulphur Creek. Further, the man s arrogance is displayed again when he ignores the warning signs that
the environment is not suitable for such a long solo trek. Despite the incredible cold, the man fails to
comprehend just how miniscule he is compared to nature. ...the absence of sun from the sky, the
tremendous cold, and the strangeness and weirdness of it all made no impression on the man (1205). It
is this arrogance that limits the man s ability to grasp how insignificant his life is compared to the
great power of

  • 2. The Odyssey Essay The Odyssey is a Greek word meaning the tale of Odysseus. ; Odysseus, the King of Ithaca; husband of Penelope; father of Telemachus; and son of Laertes was not able to return home after the war he was once in: the Trojan War. Stuck on an island, he is presumed dead. In his absence, suitors for his wife ruin his house with lavish feasts. This epic poem, by Homer, describes how Odysseus, with the help of the gods, gets home and regains his kingship. Justice is always harsh in the Odyssey; there is either no justice or a lot of it; the punishment however, is always severe. Justice in the Odyssey plays out among these characters: Odysseus and his crew, the suitors, Poseidon, Aeolus, Hyperion, Agamemnon, Aegisthus, Melanthius, Melantho, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Odysseus departed from Calypso s island, Poseidon noticed and wrecked havoc using his powers of the sea: [Odysseus] heard the thunder of surf on a rocky coast. With an angry roar the great seas were battering at the rocky land and all was veiled in spray. There were no coves, no harbours, that would hold a ship; nothing but headlands jutting out, sheer rock and jagged reefs ; (pg. 81 82). Also after the Phaeacians had helped Odysseus, Poseidon punished them for their kindness to his enemy. Hyperion, the sun god, loved his cattle and told Odysseus and his crew not to eat them. When the crew was starving, they slaughtered and ate Hyperion s cows. Hyperion demanded justice from the gods: Father Zeus and you other blessed gods who live for ever, take vengeance on the followers of Odysseus. . . They have criminally killed my cattle, the cattle that gave me such joy every day as I climbed the starry sky and as I dropped down from heaven and sank once more to earth ; (pg. 190). Zeus answered Hyperion and killed all of Odysseus crew. Aeolus had given Odysseus a large leather bag, which contained the strong winds that could set them off course. Odysseus crew got curious and opened the bag. All the strong winds hurried them off course, and they eventually landed back to Aeolus island. They went to Aeolus and asked for help. However Aeolus was very mad for the crew s carelessness and demanded that Odysseus and his crew leave the island: Get off this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Is There An Increased Risk Of Violence During War Veterans... Is there an increased risk of violence in war veterans suffering with post traumatic stress disorder? Many researchers believe that individuals with PTSD are on a high risk of violence. Although, all research studies are not on the same page regarding this proclamation. The research findings published on the U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs say that despite of PTSD being associated with increased risk of violence, most veterans and non veterans have never engaged in violence. When factors like alcohol and drug misuse, additional psychiatric disorders or younger age are considered, the association between PTSD and violence is decreased [39]. To find out the association between the risk of violence and PTSD in war veterans, most of the clinical trials have been conducted on Vietnam War veterans and Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans. Many researches claim that there is strong evidence that anger and violence are prevalent problems in Vietnam combat veterans with PTSD [46]. A May 2001 comparative study conducted on Vietnam veterans with chronic combat related PTSD and without PTSD stated that chronic PTSD patients showed higher levels of self reported aggression and a significantly higher incidence of potentially dangerous firearm related behaviors than comparison subjects [47]. Domestic violence or partner violence is a serious public health problem in the military veterans with PTSD. For veterans, PTSD is strong factor that largely accounts for the relationship between ... One wrong move and many could die, but one correct move and he could save countless numbers of people. He could panic or run from his trouble, or he could embrace it. Chesley B. Sully Sullenberger was a true hero while flying and landing a plane with no working engines. In the two texts, The Banality of Heroism , and , A Hudson River Hero , he had to make a quick, stressful decision, he was selfless, and he remained brave and calm in time of panic. In the text, The Banality of Heroism , the author has several ideas of what exactly heroism is, Heroism may be an instantaneous reaction to a situation . • 8. Isaiah 40-66 There are several challenges with the historical background and political setting of Isaiah 40 66 concerning author, date, time and situation of life for the Jews. LaSor notes that traditional views that Isaiah authored the entire book are held by very few scholars. More and more critics are accepting a two book theory with chapters 1 39 as book one and chapters 40 66 as book two. Moreover, there are further refinements resulting in three books, dividing chapters 40 66 into 40 55 (Deutero Isaiah) and 56 66 (Trito Isaiah). Boadt notes that while the theme of Deutero Isaiah was Consolation, the overall theme of the book centered on God as the Holy One of Israel; foreign rule was God s disciplinary tool, and God s makes Zion the Divine dwelling place. (Boadt 1984, 417) The IDB provides a brief overview of Israel s political setting after the invasions of Assyria in the first century. From the late 8th to the late 2nd cent., under Assyrian, Babylonian, Persian, and Greek domination, the sovereignty of monarchic Israel was confined to Jerusalem and its hinterland. This small colonial sovereignty was embodied first in a vassal monarchy, then in an exiled monarchy, which was briefly restored, then in a monarchic priesthood. (Sakenfeld 2006 2009, ... • 11. Analysis Of I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud Analysis of; I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud by William Wordsworth The poem I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud was written by William Wordsworth. It has a strong rhyming scheme and rhymes with every second line (1 and 3, 2 and 4) apart from the last two lines of each stanza, which rhyme together. The poem appears to be about a man who had found himself in a bad mood. The man uses old, happy memories to cheer him up whilst he is in these moods. The first stanza starts off with a lonely man, wandering around without much direction or emotion, quite quickly this progresses to hope and fondness, almost like a memory has been replayed in the mind of the man, lifting his spirits. This gives a potential background story to the man without directly mentioning anything, therefore adding meaning. The line that seems to capture this sudden change of heart are, when all at once I saw a crowd . Throughout this first stanza the writer simultaneously uses both imagery and personification. The effect that this has on the reader is that they can visualise easier when they are able to compare inanimate objects to emotions and actions they have done themselves. This creates a connection with the reader to the poem. The second stanza moves straight into the next topic, which is the stars and the sky that holds them. However the transition is not awkward thanks to the use of the word continuous which implies that he is only adding to the picture and not making anew. The words chosen express ... • 12. Personal Reflection Essay As the first five weeks of Writing 39B have passed, I believe that I have made some improvements in my writing as a result of the feedback from the professor, the multiple writing assignments, and reading the Anteater s Guide to Writing and Rhetoric. Although I can still improve in all facets of my writing, the progress I have made so far was very much needed. One of the stages of my development took place in class. Although I was a bit reluctant and shy to participate at times in class, I learned a lot. The way the professor analyzed the 9/11 conspiracy video and some of the chapters in the The United States of Paranoia taught me how to see the author s purpose in creating the text and how the author appealed to the audience by presenting the text in different mediums. The mini group work done almost daily in class also helped me think more analytically about each text, which helped me writing my final RA. One of the class works was analyzing the opening paragraph of The Metamorphis by Franz Kafka. This task allowed me to see how the author s word choice can change the complete tone of the text and how the audience reacts differently to each type of tone. At the times in which I did participate, I felt that I contributed valuable information as the professor would usually expand on my comment in a positive way. In addition, participating also allowed me to feel confident about my ideas and thought process which enabled me to feel confident writing my assignments. From the very first RIP assignment, the feedback I ve received helped in aiding my final RA. Prior to this class, I didn t truly know how to be specific. Whether this be with a claim or audience, I was describing things broadly. In my RIP #1, where I had to identify a specific group with a shared interest. The group that I created was students in high school or college who are obsessed with social media. With the feedback, I learned that I could ve made it more specific by choosing just high school students not including college student and only Snapchat, and no other social media platforms. Moving on, a drastic change in my writing can be seen in the differences between CR #1 and CR #2. In CR #1, I explain that the author carries a casual yet ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Functionalism And Its Impact On Physical Body Essay In the philosophy of mind, there are many theories that try to resolve the mind body problem. That is, how does the mental or consciousness interact with our physical body? Do they interact at all? Are they two separate entities or one in the same? Many theories try to answer these types of questions, but the one I will be focusing on is role functionalism. When mentioning functionalism throughout, I will be referring to role functionalism. Functionalism is a theory that says mental states can be defined by their function. So, we can identify mental states with their functional states. We can come to know the function of a mental state through examining its inputs, outputs, and relation to other mental states. I will show how this theory is correct by comparing it to the identity theory. I will begin by clarifying a few important terms in relation to functionalism, lay out the theory, and then present an objection. Lastly, I will present a possible functionalist reply to the objection and conclude. To begin, functionalism is a theory in the philosophy of mind that defines mental states through its inputs, outputs, and causal relation to other mental states, or its function (Jackson,4). The inputs are things you perceive in the world and the output is how you react or your behavior. A behaviorist is only concerned with inputs and outputs when defining mental states, whereas a functionalist takes it a step further. They also examine the casual relationship to other mental ... • 14. Hearing Loss Intervention In today s time, there is a need for new prevention, assessment, and intervention strategies for adults experiencing hearing loss accompanied by, or at risk for, dementia (Pichora Fuller, 2015). Research has found that individuals with hearing loss are at risk for developing dementia, and dementia is also more prevalent in individuals with dementia. Patients with dementia are recognized at different stages, and the Pichora Fuller questions the possibility of earlier and better health care slowing the progression of, or even completely deterring, dementia. Often, those with high cognitive abilities are involved in social activities, some type of physical activities, may be a musician, or possess good cognitive skills, such as being bilingual. However, individuals that experience poor hearing often are hindered when it comes to participating in such activities, which is thought to be one significant link between dementia and hearing loss. Heroic Actions In The Odyssey In the Odyssey, Odysseus is portrayed as an hero after the Trojan war, however, he showed signs of villainous acts throughout the story that were overshadowed by his, questionably, heroic actions. Cheating and Plagiarism The Plague of Plagiarism Simply defined, the word plagiarism means the unauthorized use of the language and thoughts of another author and the representation of them as one s own ( Plagiarism ). While many students understand and comprehend the first clause of this definition, many encounter problems with the second part the thoughts part. Many students in today s educational system are frequently unable to develop their own thoughts, opinions, and ideas relating to the subject matter that they are studying. However, when people at a university are educated according to the ways set forth by John Henry Newman in The Idea of a University, their ability to create original concepts would be cultivated to the ... Newman states that students at a university should and will learn to respect others as well as develop a clear atmosphere of thought (48). This will then lead them to be able to think more independently and therefore rely more on their own intellectual skills than those of others. If and when the ideals of John Henry Newman are followed rather closely, the ability of all students to reason autonomously will increase dramatically and, thereby, decrease the amount of cheating. Since the ultimate purpose of a university is to prepare people to be good citizens in society (Newman 48), and according to Jeffrey Hart, students in a university should become citizens after they complete college (131), if cheating is minimized at university level, it will also reduce in the society. In this context, citizens should be wholesome people who are able to give back to society, the honesty they have learned in the university; once they are a part of it. The university, also, has an aim of purifying the national taste and raising the intellectual tone of society as a whole (Newman 49). Cheating and plagiarism are not a part of this noble aim, neither of them improves any part of society. On the contrary, they are a boar on society, a plague that must ... The purpose of these messages was to recruit me to come play football for them. I later found out that Coach Smith got his master s degree in athletic administration from Indiana University and had connections to the football program here as well. They do not have a lot of money to bring in students; therefore, they must focus on providing a fun environment for the players that do decide to play for them. I really enjoyed this experience because it made me want to branch out and gain as much experience as I can. Coach Smith started right where I am at and is currently in the process of working his way up through the ranks, hoping to reach the division one level eventually. As he pushed his way from quality control coach here at Indiana, to coach at Marian University, and then through multiple division three schools, Coach Smith took a small amount of knowledge from every position he held. Now, he finally got himself to an opportunity to learn how to coach and effectively recruit players to come to his school. Overall, I believe this interview was an important step for me to reach my career goals and I will use this experience to grow as a coach. The principle of democratic centralism became more centralized and less democratic over time. The beliefs and practices of the Bolsheviks are called Bolshevism. Vladimir Lenin was the founder of the Bolsheviks. The Bolsheviks were an important factor in the Russian Revolution. They have not only been essential in the continued development of warfare but have also shown great determination when facing the hardest struggles in combat and an ability to complete their objectives. However, even though the ordinary soldier continues to fight and to carry out his orders, he is put through some of the hardest traumas and hardships that the world has ever seen or known. • 31. Character Analysis Of To Build A Fire By Jack London It was a clear day, and yet there seemed an intangible pall over the face of things, a subtle gloom that made the day dark, and that was due to the absence of the sun. Throughout Jack London s To Build a Fire there is a sense of slow burning dread as readers are introduced to the man and his gradual, but inevitable death, brought upon by himself. London s short story opens with the main character, a man, foolishly embarking on the long journey back to camp in the freezing Yukon, accompanied only by a husky mix. It is in this unforgivingly harsh weather that the man meets his fate, at his own hand. From the beginning of the story, the man displays flawed behaviors and personality traits that render him unable to survive on his solo journey in the Yukon, becoming his own worst enemy. One of the most prominent facets of the man s personality is his overwhelming arrogance. The man is a newcomer to the Yukon territory or chechaquo , and is inexperienced in the customs of the land. The man believes that he will be unaffected by the harsh conditions and does not seem to grasp the grave reality of the situation. This characteristic is displayed early in the story, when the man rebuffs the old timer s warning advice and later mocks the old man and his caution of the danger of traveling in the freezing temperatures, especially without a partner. Those old timers are rather womanish, some of them, he thought (1210). Despite the likelihood that the old timer has spent his lifetime in the area, the man considers his advice to be weak and believes, arrogantly, that he is superior in his masculinity and abilities. Eventually, the man realizes that he should have listened to the words of the old man in Sulphur Creek. Further, the man s arrogance is displayed again when he ignores the warning signs that the environment is not suitable for such a long solo trek. Despite the incredible cold, the man fails to comprehend just how miniscule he is compared to nature. ...the absence of sun from the sky, the tremendous cold, and the strangeness and weirdness of it all made no impression on the man (1205).
