History Of Mckay Dee Hospital Essay
History of McKay Dee Hospital
The Thomas D. Dee Memorial Hospital was founded in 1910 by Annie Taylor Dee and her eight
children as a tribute to their husband and father, who had passed away in an accident. The hospital was
ready for occupancy on December 29, 1910. Unfortunately, by 1914 the Dee family could no longer
provide the funding needed to operate the hospital. Financial appeals to keep the hospital open were
made to the Weber County Commissioners and medical staff, but to no avail. The hospital was
scheduled to close on November 15, 1914. In an effort to save the hospital, Annie Taylor decided to
write a letter to Elder David O. McKay, a member of the quorum of twelve apostles of the LDS
Church, to petition for his help. Elder McKay held a meeting with members of the first presidency and
presiding bishopric where it was determined that closing the hospital would be a calamity. A plan was
formulated to save the institution by bringing the hospital into the LDS Church Hospital System
(intermountainhealthcare.org). Hospital growth and accomplishments followed during the next thirty
years. As time passed, the growth of the hospital required a new facility be constructed. It was
suggested that the hospital be called McKay Dee Hospital to honor David O. McKay. It became an
institution of healing on July 12, 1969. On November 10, 1971 The Thomas D. Dee Memorial
Hospital or The Dee opened a new facility adjacent to the McKay. These structures served the

Essay on Adolescents in the TV Show Freaks and Geeks
The media portrays adolescents in television shows as being rebellious, sex crazed, and unreasonable
people. Freaks and Geeks, created by Paul Feig and produced by Feig, himself, and Judd Apatow, is a
one hour TV show that aired on NBC from 1999 2000. The show centers around the siblings, Sam and
Lindsay Weir, and their friends while they all attend McKinley High School. Freaks and Geeks is a
show that portray adolescents in a way that the media doesn t because of the lessons the characters

Amy Campbell, in episode 17, tell his boyfriend, Ken Miller, that she was born intersex. This causes
Ken to question his sexuality, but later on to learn that Amy was the perfect girl for him. This shows
that Ken makes a decision to actually show that adolescents make many choices that aren t just
exaggerated out of proportion but are life changing and confusing to one. Another character having to
make a hard choice is when Lindsay Weir, also in episode 17, had her question for the Vice President
declined. Lindsay in the end makes the choice of asking the Vice President why he decline her
question and what he is avoiding. This shows that choice by adolescents are not all about relationships
but of politics. This also pushes away the stereotype of youth not being politically aware and have no
view on the government. This choices affect her life in a way where she can help her make decisions
in her future. Many adolescent have to endure many struggles that may affect the person in a whole.

Steve Jobs Vs Wozniak
The difference between a white hate hacker and a black hat hacker is that a white hat hacker uses his
skills of hacking into peoples computer systems to discovery any problems with the system that would
be easily targeted by the black hat hackers. They use their skills to help improve and secure computer
operating systems. Black hat hackers use their hacking skills for bad. Their intent is to steal, damage,
and destroy their potential victim. (Investigating High Tech Crime page by Michael Knetzger and

A Note On Detection Algorithm
2.1 PAGE CHANGE DETECTION ALGORITHM
2.1.1 Introduction: About 60% of the content on the web is dynamic. It is quiet possible that after
downloading a particular web page, the local copy of the page residing in the repository of the web
pages becomes obsolete compared to the copy on the web. Therefore a need arises to update the
database of web pages. Once a decision has been taken to update the pages, it should be ensured that
minimal resources are used in the process. Updating only those elements of the database, which have
actually undergone a change, can do this. Importance of web pages to be downloaded has been
discussed in the above section. It also checks whether the page is already there in the database or not
and lowers its priority value if it is referred rather frequently. In this section, we discuss some
algorithms to derive certain parameters, which can help in deriving the fact whether the page has
changed, or not. These parameters will be calculated at the time of page parsing. When the client again
counters the same URL, it just calculates the code by parsing the page without downloading the page
and compares it to the current parameters. If changes in parameters are detected, it is concluded that
the page has changed and needs to be downloaded again. Otherwise the URL is discarded immediately
without further processing. The following changes are of importance when considering changes in a
web page:
Change in page structure.
Change in text contents.

Choosing The Choice Of The Right College
Choosing the right college to attend is like choosing which chocolate bar to eat. There is such a variety
of chocolate bars just like there is such a variety of colleges. Some candy bars are salty and sweet
while are others have additional flavors added; the same is true for colleges, there are some colleges
that have unique extra curricular activities while other colleges have very rigorous academic
programs. All of the chocolate bars are good, but in the end, someone is only going to choose one the
bar that they choose is the one that they feel will satisfy their needs and wants the best. In this paper I
will compare the admission requirements, degree requirements, location and demographics of
Oklahoma Baptist University and Colorado State University. Also, I will explain the graduate program
at Colorado State University, and the college I would choose based on all three individual college
studies. Finally, I will include a high school plan that will show the classes I plan on taking in high
school so I can get where I want to go. To begin, the admission requirements for Oklahoma Baptist
University, otherwise known as OBU, are very simple; however, they only accept sixty percent of
applicants ( Oklahoma Baptist University ). This means that students need to excel in the few
admittance requirements, so they can provide themselves with the highest opportunity of getting
accepted. In order to get accepted to OBU, students need to have an ACT composite of at least twenty

she was a pregnant teenager whose mother didn t want her at all. The other person was Mariatu who
lost her hands to the war and was raped by a family friend and the baby ended up dying. These girls
show what it means to keep going after your world has shattered and you have nothing left. In
Plainsong Victoria got pregnant at 17 by some guy after seeing him for a little bit. Her mother then
kicks her out after finding out, she struggles to figure out what to do. She turns to Maggie Jones a

The Bowler Man: From Hoboing to Three Piece Suits
From hoboing to three piece suits, an African American elderly man knows that education has no
limits. In the 1940s, as a child, he tries to escape poverty by hopping from train to train. Avoiding
authorities, he did not want to return to sharecropping in the South. He quit school at an early age and
functioned by using his wit, but knew that he needed to further his formal education, too. Dressed in a
three piece suit, tie, and bowler hat, he cleared his throat before introducing himself at the Tyler Adult

that his life offered him little more than sharecropping, Stevie decided to hitch a ride on the B B

Story Of An Hour Essay
Feminism is an organized activity on behalf of women s rights and interests. Feminism has been in
society for many years. The story Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin and the poem Paper Matches by
Paulette Jiles are based on how feminism affected women before. These two passages have a similar
perspective on how women saw men, both are written in the perspective of a woman, and how women
were confined to their homes.
First, both stories are similar in how women saw men. In Story of an Hour Mr. Mallard was working
while Mrs.Mallard was at the house. For example, Brently Mallard who entered, a little travel stained,
composedly carrying his grip sack and umbrella. (lines 86 87). When the people told Mrs. Mallard her
husband was dead she starts describing her house as if something was coming. In paper matches, the
perspective of women of men was that they were like their servants. For example, Written by me was
a message, At Your Service, like a book of paper matches. (lines 9 11). This quote shows how women
felt towards men how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Story of an Hour Chopin s purpose was to show that not all marriages are happy that some women
felt or feel that are trapped. For example, But she felt it, creeping out of the sky, reaching toward her
through the sounds, the scents, the color that filled the air. (lines 39 40). The character Mrs. Mallard
describes her emotions as she did not know what to do know with the freedom she just got. In Paper
Matches Jiles purpose was to show how even little kids like the girl in the story felt trapped. For
example, when the little girl asks, Why are we in here, I said, and they are out there? (lines 3 4). This
shows that the impact of not being able to do things freely impacted all females, little girls, and grown
women. Both author s express how women felt at the time through the characters of the story and the

Takeaways Analysis
On Sunday night, the Golden State Warriors defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers 132 113 in Game 2 of
the 2017 NBA Finals, taking a commanding 2 0 series lead. Even though Cavaliers superstar LeBron
James notched his eighth NBA Finals triple double, tying him with Magic Johnson for the most in
NBA Finals history, it was not enough to overcome the offensive firepower of the Warriors.
Just like in Game 1, it was once again the Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry show.
Here are three takeaways from Game 2:
1. Kevin Durant is on his way to potentially being named Finals MVP
After his phenomenal Game 1 performance, many people wondered what Kevin Durant would do for
an encore performance in Game 2?
To answer that question, Durant did not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite his stellar perimeter defense, the Warriors needed Thompson to find his shot again and give
them an extra offensive boost in Game 2.
Thompson did just that as he pitched in with 22 points and seven rebounds, plus knocked down 4 of 7
from three point range. Give Thompson credit though, he is an outstanding shooter and when you are
a shooter like him, you need to have a short memory.
A missed shot will not make or break you. Thompson was knocking down shots inside the arc, putting
the ball on the floor, and dialing it up from distance.
The Warriors will need him to continue to shoot the ball like he did on Sunday night, especially if they
want to win Game 3 on Tuesday night and take a commanding 3 0 series lead.
3. LeBron James is still the greatest player in the world but he cannot do it all
Once again in the NBA Finals, LeBron James gave us another special performance. As I mentioned
earlier, James posted his eighth NBA Finals triple double consisting of 29 points, 14 rebounds, and 11
assists, but it was not enough.
Early in the game, James was playing like a man possessed. He was controlling the tempo, attacking
the basket with force and tenacity, while also getting his teammates involved. He also threw down a
powerful dunk on Andre Iguodala, who was at the wrong place at the wrong time.
However, James teammates could not reciprocate the favor and help him out. Just like in Game 1, J.R.
Smith, who

Fundamental Attribution Error Justifies How Individuals...
Fundamental Attribution Error justifies how individuals explain the actions of other individuals. For
example; Just the other day I saw one of my students ask a boy out as boyfriend and girlfriend, but

ask the proper way. I right away predicted that she had intentions of him saying no to her because he
wasn t looking for companionship. I think when situations like this occur whether it be negative or
positive we always tend to blame an individuals characteristics and or personality rather than a
specific issue. In the past, I have had many people judging me and thinking the worst just because of
how I present myself and mainly how I have a strong attitude. I ve always had pride on everything I

The Firefly Hunt Analysis
There are many writers in this world, and each has their own personal style. William Shakespeare,
Charles Dickens, and Mark Twain all had various ways that they used to come up with amazing stories
or plays. Jacey Choy, the author of Red Cranes and Jun ichiro Tanizaki, the author of The Firefly Hunt
also use methods that differ, specifically with their characters Mie and Sachiko. The authors develop
the characters differently by their interactions with the other characters, the presentation of their
thoughts, and the strong feelings they have at the end of each passage. One of the first notable
differences between the two authors is how their characters interact with others. The red cranes!

success, the greenhouse also represents a glass coffin, or an enclosed garden (On The Plain Sense of

the speaker s house does not live up to his expectations. His efforts failed and just like a fly, he feels as

Many countries have foods similar to what we produce in markham, some patterns are some countries
have food that would be produced in other countries. Also the warmer countries have usually have
more types of food supplied to markham s grocery stores because crops grow better in warmer
temperatures.
b. How does Markham s demographic profile contribute to the types of products imported from other
countries? Consider immigration, cultural/ethnic diversity,

It shows that we are multicultural with having different types of foods from different cultures like
having a variety of foods that we can try from other cultures. This also shows that we are very diverse

The Justification Of Absolutism By Thomas Hobbes
A form of government ruled by one person whose authority is not restricted by law or governing
bodies is absolutism. It is arguable if this form of government can truly be successful due to its
impression left throughout the course of history. Justification of absolutism by Thomas Hobbes,
Jacques Benigne Bossuet, and analysis of Louis XIV rule reveal why absolutism in ineffective. Due to
its removal of self authority, vulnerability to a power, and the possibility of weakening a country make
absolutism inefficient.
Thomas Hobbes was an English Philosopher and the author of Leviathan. In it, he justifies absolutism
by explaining his belief that people will always have conflicts by nature. He states, And therefore, as

He encouraged that subjects do not listen to the voice of God, and only their ruler. Bossuet, however,
believed that God possesses all power and rulers were anointed by Him. Bossuet states, But kings,
although their power comes from on high, as has been said, should not regard themselves as masters
of that power to use it at their pleasure; . . . they must employ it with fear and self restraint, as a thing
coming from God and of which God will demand and account (Bousset). Although his views are
similar to those of Hobbes, Bossuet s theory of absolutism is favorable because God is the head of
government. Nonetheless, this still leaves civilians in the hands of their rulers, who can falsely say
they have a divine right to the throne.
A European monarch that heavily enforced absolutism throughout his reign is Louis XIV. He is known
as the Sun King and for his statement I am the State. Louis had no tolerance toward Protestants, and
believed in the motto one king, one law, one faith. Due to this, he revoked the Edict of Nantes.
Following with the Edict of Fontainebleau, Louis ordered the destruction of Protestant churches,
closure of Protestant schools, and expulsion of Protestant clergy. After this, a great number of
Protestants fled, resulting in France s loss of much of its labor force. It led to the decline of his reign
and the country itself. Throughout his reign, Louis was able to enrich the French

Pushing Syndrome Research Paper
Choice E is the best answer. Cushing syndrome is a clinical syndrome associated with an excess of
glucocorticoids(GCs), due either to elevated levels of endogenous cortisol or exogenous use of
glucocorticoid medications such as prednisone, prednisolone, hydrocortisone, and betamethasone.
Common signs and symptoms include altered fat deposition (including moon facies and buffalo hump
, referring to fat deposition in the face and the upper back), weight gain, hypertension, striae, acne,
hyperglycemia, and central muscle weakness. Treatment involves cessation of glucocorticoid therapy,
though a taper is crucial, as abrupt withdrawal can lead to acute adrenal insufficiency and shock. In
non endocrine disorders, GCs are commonly given in pharmacologic (therapeutic) doses to suppress
inflammation. In endocrine disorders, however, corticosteroid doses are often given at or close to
physiologic doses (rather than in therapeutic ranges). GC associated toxicity appears to be related to
both the average dose and cumulative duration of GC use. However, for most GC related adverse
events, threshold dose or treatment duration has not been established. Choice A is not the best answer.

The American Of The British Empire Essay
In the British Empire, existed thirteen colonies found between the 1600s and the 1700s on the Atlantic
Coast of North America. These thirteen colonies later on combined together into a new nation
currently known as the United States of America. Immigrations from Britain and Germany had high
growth rates and were all successful and thriving. These colonies had self governments furthermore to
similar political and legal systems. The self government systems were based mainly on farmers who
owned a piece of land and served on local juries. To the British, the American lands were there
generally to provide raw materials to Britain and be purchasers of British goods.
The American Revolution rose when the Thirteen American Colonies did not accept monarchy,
aristocracy, and refused to follow the authority of Britain. The revolution was a consequence of social,
political, and logical transformation in the American Society. Due to those aspects, the Americans had
to seek a way to escape the British powers.
When the fight for Independence first started, the main conflict between Britain and the American
colonists was particularly caused by the financial reasons of the War. The British were certain that the
American colonists were not playing the financial role correctly. Shortly after, the tension elevated and
resulted in the enforcement of The Stamp Act, which was a law that obligated every colonist to pay a

Rfid Is An Acronym For Radio Frequency Identification
Variations of RFID technology have been in use since the 1940 s. RFID is an acronym for radio
frequency identification. In application RFID is the use of radio signals to wirelessly track and
identify tags that have been placed on an item. RFID is an emerging technology that is helping
transportation companies, retailers, and manufacturers decrease handling times of goods and increase
efficiencies at factories, warehouses, and store fronts by tracking objects with greater flexibility and
less human involvement. RFID technology is unique and more adaptable than other tracking systems
because it does not require a direct line of sight between the scanner and the object being identified.
RFID systems can also identify more than one object simultaneously. This flexibility and efficiency
adds the type of value that is paramount in just in time principles. This paper will describe RFID
technology in detail, and discuss its current uses in security and access control, toll roads, and supply
chain management. RFID had its infancy during World War 2 with an expansion of research in radar
and radio. As with other products that had an initial military application RFID has progressed over
decades to become much more main stream. RFID was first widely used commercially in the 1960 s
as an anti theft device in retail stores. Retailers used a device called an EAS or electronic article
surveillance to protect high dollar items. The 1970 s saw RFID grow into applications with

Multiple Sclerosis Research
In adult patients suffering from Multiple Sclerosis (MS), research has been done to show that in the
brain, deep grey matter atrophy (damage or lesions) is measurable even within the first few years after
the first attack. The neurodegenerative aspect of Multiple Sclerosis is crippling not only to the central
nervous system, but to important brain substructures like the thalamus, putamen, caudate, and globus
pallidus (a major part of the basal ganglia) and could lead to a hindering of brain growth in the brains

Lord Of Flies Book Vs Lord Of The Flies
The Inner Beast Emerges
The beast that lies inside of us all shows what it can do when it has a chance too.
By Daniel Frankel
The Lord of the Flies is a 250 page novel written by Sir William Golding. It was first published in
1954 and since then, has become a worldwide success. A quote from Golding was The right
impression is the one that rises to the reader the first time he reads the book , This was perfectly suited
for his book, as his book was a best seller. The movie based on the novel Lord of the Flies was first
made in 1963 in black and white, then made again in colour in 1990 by Harry Hook. The movie has
many deviations from the book however the storyline is basically the same and proved a success by
grossing just under $14 million in the box office, making it a major film for the time period. Because
this novel was such a success schools all around are still studying it in senior English.
The Lord of the flies novel, starts at a reasonable pace and doesn t let the reader lose interest. Sir
William Golding writes very descriptively and creates the images very clearly. For example his hair
plastered to his forehead this gives the impression of heat, sweat, and steamy air. The story starts when
a group of British school boys are stranded on an uninhabited island. Trying to maintain structure, the
boys elect Ralph to be the leader, a position, Ralph, feels a duty as the eldest to fulfil. However, one of
the other boys Jack wants to also be the leader, and

Reflective Essay On Internship
Throughout the course of my internship at Primerica, I met a lot of people and learn great things.
When I just started, I was uncertain if the internship was right for me. The company primary focus is
life insurance, which I had little knowledge in. It also requires persistence and effective
communication in order to build and work in a team and find clients to do business with. I was
confident in my persistency, but not in communication. However, my team reassured me that as long
as I have the will to learn and be coachable, everything will be fine. I believed in them and used it as a
motivation to push myself out of my comfort zone to achieve my goals. As I learned more about the
company and what they do, I became more excited to be a part of it and was eager to start going into
the field to help others. While I was studying for my life insurance license, I realized that it was not as
hard as I thought it would be. I was able to receive my license on my first try and started going on
training appointments with my mentors. To make sure that I set up appointments with the right people,
my mentors helped me create a small script and show me a way to identify qualified people. At first, it
was a bit challenging for me since I do not know much people that are qualified. However, I did not
let that stop me and continue to move forward. I was also given a script to help with the presentation
during an appointment, which I was grateful to have as the backbone. During the

Persuasive Essay On Music Education
Music Education Despite the vast number of children who learn musical instruments, many people
still do not fully understand all the benefits of music education. When budget cuts and low funding
threaten course elimination, music is often one of the first to go. This should not be the case, however,
because learning to play an instrument can build self esteem, increase various social and academic
skills and can help them become a well rounded person (Montgomery). Music education is incredibly
valuable, especially for children. The benefits that children can gain from learning music will make
lasting impacts on them. Playing musical instruments has copious benefits on a child s intellect, and
social skills, and personal growth. Learning music has incredible benefits on children s cognitive
development and intelligence. Children gain many skills through music, and a child learning about
music has to tap into multiple skill sets, often simultaneously (Brown). Learning music substantially
helps children grow in other areas of learning. In a study by E. Glenn Schellenberg, six year olds were
given voice and piano lessons and their IQ s were compared to six year olds without music lessons. At
the end of the experiment, ...the children who were given music lessons over the school year tested on
average three IQ points higher than the other groups (Brown). When children are involved in music,
they are increasing their intellectual capacity. The ability to play or sing music can help children in
math, english, and and problem solving. There have been countless studies and research that show
higher test scores and grades in musical students when compared to non musical students. In fact, a
research team exploring the link between music and intelligence reported that music training is far
superior to computer instruction in dramatically enhancing children s abstract reasoning skills, the
skills necessary for learning math and science (Shankar Mahadevan Academy). Music is an artistic
area of study, but clearly has a strong impact on important core subjects for students. Through
understanding rhythm and scales, as well as beats per measure, children can learn about fractions and
other math skills. Reading the

The Intel Edison, a remarkable CPU designed with capabilities to support wearable technology and
regular day to day items. We choose the Intel Edison because it fulfils certain criteria which will make
our customers happy.
Its main feature is its size. At an astounding 35.5 x 25 x 3.9 mm, the Intel Edison is slightly bigger
than your average size toenail. The AR 1 needs a CPU to be small so that its weight cannot affect the
comfort of the wearer. The compact size of the CPU creates the possibility for hardware upgrades.
Considering its size, it certainly does not slack behind other CPU s in the processing department.
Considered to be in the Pentium class (Brown 2014), the Intel Edison features a dual core dual

does not sound like the fastest processor out there but let us have a closer look into its design.

The Drama of Act 1, Scene 5 of Romeo and Juliet Essay
The Drama of Act 1, Scene 5 of Romeo and Juliet
In this essay I am going to analyse, interpret and express a view about act 1 scene 5. I am going to
consider the dramatic events of the scene, Shakespeare s use of language, the way the scene is
structured and changing moods and how Shakespeare makes use of dramatic devices like scene shifts
and range of characters.
Shakespeare has divided this scene into 7 sections. Section one is when the servants prepare for the
party and Lord Capulet welcomes the guests. You are welcome, gentlemen. Come musicians, play. A
hall, a hall! Give room; and foot it, girls. This shows us the pleasant mood Capulet is in. In this section
Shakespeare makes the audience ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The audience is hopeful that this relationship may develop.
The fourth section of act one scene v is when Tybalt recognizes Romeo and so then sends for a
weapon to murder Romeo, but Lord Capulet restrains him, as Romeo is implementing no harm. This,
by his voice, should be a Montague. Fetch me my rapier boy. This illustrates how Tybalt truly sought
to kill Romeo so the mood in this section is tense, aggressive and severe. It looks as if Shakespeare is
foreshadowing the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet when Tybalt talks about killing Romeo. The audience
is left in apprehension for Romeo s fate.
The fifth section of act one scene v is when Romeo and Juliet address and kiss for the first time. Thus
from my lips by thine my sin is purg d. This demonstrates the mood of the scene, which is very
passionate and moving, but at the same time also risky and treacherous. The mood is also positive and
hopeful on that out of all the hatred the Montague s and Capulet s have for one another, there may
possibly come some love. Shakespeare leaves the audience anxious for the future of Romeo and Juliet.
Section six of act one scene v is when Romeo discovers that Juliet is a Capulet and is evidently
shocked. O dear account! My life is my foe s debt. This exemplifies how saddened and astounded

teenagers. Girls think they can t do things that guys do. There are programs out there that show those
types of stereotypes and these stereotypes get into their head which makes them realize there s no way
for them to do it. The contradicted stereotypes are that there are some girls out there in this world that

Persuasive Essay On Youth And Bullying
Coming home after a long day at school, and all you want is to lie down on your bed and check your

friends.unfortunately for some people their days do not go so smoothly imagine being verbally
attacked and tormented everyday, you absolutely hate going to school and you do not even enjoy going
home because you know that the bullying is going to follow you home and continue through your

aware on how dangerous it is.
Its 2017 and bullying still remains the same in fact it has increased. Bullies and mean people have
been around for as long as anyone can remember , but due to newer technologies being made more
ways of bullying have been created which means more ways for people to cyberbully. Most bullying
occurs on instagram, facebook, email etc.. if you scroll through any of your social medias there is not a
chance that you will get to the bottom of the page without seeing a form of hate.statistics show that
eleven percent of adolescents and teenagers report that embarrassing or damaging photos have been
taken of them without their knowledge or consent.sometimes teenagers take photos of other people
without them knowing and share it online and make a mockery out of them on purpose,to them they
may consider it a joke and will laugh about it and share it around not knowing how much of an impact
it could make on that person s well being and life.there is a difference between a couple of friends
joking around and having a little bit of banter compared to someone who is being targeted and harmed
continuously by hurtful words or embarrassing photos.Teenagers usually do horrible things like this to
fit in , be popular or for their own selfish reasons.
One of the effects of bullying is that it can change the victim s personality. It can cause people who are
normally confident and happy to become self conscious, shy, and unsure. Most of the time victims of
bullying may also become sad or depressed, keeping them from trying new things and excelling. Once

Life In Milan Kundera s The Unbearable Lightness Of Being
In The Unbearable Lightness of Being , Milan Kundera informs readers that without the ability to
compare our lives to others, we cannot find meaning in our lives, but remain between life s lightness
and heaviness. He does this by illustrating the relationships between four characters: Tomas, Tereza,
Sabina, and Franz. The novel begins in the year 1968 with Tomas, who is a brilliant surgeon from
Prague and a perpetual bachelor. In a small town cafe, he fortuitously met Tereza, who was his
waitress; to Tereza, the moment was magical because one of her favorite compositions by Beethoven
was playing on the radio and that he enjoyed literature. Tereza evidently followed Tomas to Prague
with her life packed within a suitcase and she intended to offer her life to him. The two started living
with each other, but Tomas was incapable of terminating his bachelor lifestyle full of mistresses. He
tried to hide his infidelity, but Tereza found a letter from one of his mistresses, Sabina. She wrote to
Tomas saying, I want to make love to you in my studio. It will be like a stage surrounded by people.
The audience won t be allowed up close, but they won t be able to take their eyes off us. (Pg. 16).
Tomas confessed and told her that these sexual acts were separate from his love for her. This
information marred Tereza s mind; she starting having horrendous nightmares and began
contemplating suicide. He then married her, to relieve her of her distress. Yet he still kept his
mistresses. Eventually Sabina and Tereza become close friends, but Tereza s jealousy still remained
the same. Sabina, Tereza, and Tomas fled to Switzerland due to the Soviet Union inhabiting
Czechoslovakia. Tereza left behind her career as a photographer, became unemployed, and had to sit
home alone as Tomas continued his affairs. She then began to believe, when the strong were too weak
to hurt the weak, the weak have to be strong enough to leave. (Pg. 75). Then, she returned back to
Prague. Tomas was enjoying his liberation for a few days, but he gave up and left for Prague. This
evidently meant that the couple gave up their freedom because there was no chance that the couple
would be allowed to leave again due to the Communist regime. In

Form Of Government In The 17th And 18th Century
For over 5,000 years of human civilization, there has always been a need for societal structure and
stability. People developed governments in order to guarantee that structure and stability are present
within the region. While there are various forms of government, some are more effective than others.
Yet the effectiveness of that form of government is mostly dictated by the time period it is being used
in. Even though democracy is widely regarded as the best form of government in the 21st century, the
same cannot be said for the 17th and 18th centuries. The most effective form of government for the
17th and 18th centuries in Europe is absolutism because of the power of religious unity, the
importance of fear, and the focus of the overall well being of the state.
Where democracy falls short is in the power of religious unity. Democracy promotes secular values
which would have been extremely unsuccessful at the time while the very foundation of absolutism is
based on a religious concept called the theory of The Divine Right of Kings. As explained by King
James I of England in 1609, the theory of The Divine Right of Kings states that for kings are not only
God s lieutenants upon Earth, and sit upon God s throne, but even by God himself they are called
gods. The theory explains that the King was sent from God and is accountable to nobody but God.
This connection between religion and policy allows for unanimous agreement for any course of action.

Analysis Of Sonnet By William Shakespeare
Sonnet to science is a Lyric poem that gets ones attention from the first word. This Sonnet has high
diction that through out the poem makes the readers aware of a serious concern the poet is trying to
express. The title Sonnet to Science , can instantly bring to mind that the poem praise to science,
however as the poem goes on, readers will realize is the exact opposite. The poem was written in the
year 1829 right in the middle of the industrial revolution going on in Europe, a revolution that would
affect every aspect of how things were done, and eventually translate to the United States. Basically
many duties and tasks that were agrarian and rural became more industrial and urban. This could be
the reason why Poe is starting to feel overwhelm by the changes science is doing in Society. The poem
is being narrated by a poet that is worried and concerned about the danger of science and all the
pleasures that science is ripping away from artists. With the emphatic use of literary devices such as
metaphors allusions and high diction, it is seen that the poet sees Science as an enemy and the cause of
destruction of a poet s fantasies and peaceful summer dream beneath the tamarind tree.
Sonnet to Science , is a classic English or Shakespearean Sonnet of Iambic Pentameter divided into 3
quatrains and 1 couplet. It follows an ABAB CDCD EFEF GG rhyme scheme making it easy to catch

Meeting attended: Alcoholics Anonymous, Serenity Group, Urban Ministries, 03/07/2016, 1200.
The treatment philosophy of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) is that of a 12 step program, additionally,
the group caters to individuals who are recovering, or trying to recover from alcoholism. This group
only focuses on alcohol abuse/misuse and not any other types of addiction. The 12 step program used
by AA uses a person s spirituality to focus their attention on their higher power and how they might
draw strength from it. In the meeting that I attended, the participants concentrated on the first two
steps of the 12 step program. The first step, admitting that the person is/was powerless over alcohol,
opened my eyes due to the fact that I always had thought that the first step was admitting you have a
problem. Although, they come to the same conclusion, the word powerless struck a chord because
being powerless can leave you feeling worthless and weak. The second step, believing that a power
greater than yourself will restore you to sanity, I feel was the absolute focus of this meeting. The
participants read prayers and meditation passages before the meeting really got underway. I looked
around at the faces in the room and I saw peace and acceptance on most faces when they were praying
to their God to give them strength to abstain from alcohol for the day.
After the opening prayers, dedications, meditation, and introductions (to which everyone said their

Incorporation Of Digital Game Based Learning For Our...
Thank you for your consideration to allow the incorporation of Digital Game Based Learning for our
students here at XXXXX middle school. With careful planning, delivering, and administration of
digital games, we may not only augment the development of student citizenship, yet also the culture of
the school and surrounding community. It is with hope that my suggestions will lead to a fulfilling
learning experience for students.
The game I am proposing for our school s curricular development is the Learning Games Network s
Quandary; a game that has received some notoriety in recent years. The game is set in a fictional
world 32 light years away and the gamer s avatar is a leader of a growing space colony named Braxos.
The task of the leader is to make decisions dealing with sustainability within conflicts among the
colony s inhabitants. However, the avatar consults the student gamer as the delegate from Earth to
assist in listening to the thoughts, opinions, and practical facts of the colonists in order to make
informed decisions about certain scenarios on behalf of the survival of the colony. These scenarios
include dealing with predators native to the ecosystem that threaten local food resources, issues with
water supplies, and even favoritism through clothing that highlight concerns about social class and
identity. In essence, the preceding description of how to delegate is the true beauty of the Quandary
learning experience. It causes student gamers to critically think

Comparing The Plot Scenes In Hamlet And Gregory Doran s...
William Shakespeare s Hamlet has been portrayed several times during the past centuries but what
distinguishes each piece of work is how the directors approached the play. Hamlet without doubt is a
troubled man overcome with the death of his father and the discovery that us uncle now step father
murdered his late father, the king of Denmark. Kenneth Branagh s and Gregory Doran s portrayals of
the famous closet scene demonstrates two extremes of Hamlet s relationship with his mother Gertrude.
Branagh s version of the closet scene uses bright pastel colours such as blue, pink and red to show
happiness and innocence. The use of light blue hints the youth of a child as it is often associated with
the birth of boys in today s society. The only exception is Hamlet, as he is dressed all in black. His
black clothing is not only used as a way to signify Hamlet s mourning of his father but also as a way
to represent how Hamlet himself is corrupt. This contrasts with Gertrude s appearance who is dressed
neatly in golden. Gold which symbolizes wealth and power is used to describe Gertrude s position of
power in the kingdom. Additionally, the golden dress represents purity and demonstrates how
Gertrude is oblivious to the corruption taking place in her kingdom.
On the other hand, Doran s version uses much darker tones such as dark blues, silvers and golds. The
use of silver and gold demonstrates the wealth and power the royal family has over themselves and
society while the dark blue

Maryland Essay
Maryland is the 42nd largest state, making it one of the smaller states in America. It is located in the
South Atlantic region on the United States eastern seaboard. Prince George s is one of twenty four
counties in Maryland. It is also the geographic center of the state. Maryland has a varied climate. The
state is home to a variety of different ecosystems. This is also true of
Maryland s environment, which has the Atlantic Ocean on the coast, mountains, and forest land.
My paper will focus on Prince George s county and the state of Maryland. The size of the state and
how connected parts of Prince George s county is to its neighboring counties and cities makes it
sensible to take a wider view of Maryland s ecology and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These areas are used to protect natural resources, conservation, and education. Many of these water
ways are considered ecological greenways.
Before European settlers colonized parts of Maryland, the area was dominated by mixed
hardwood forests. European settlers cut down native forests at a high rate and the timber was
sold in Europe. These old growth forests are now virtually extinct in the state. Environmental
activists have been fighting for decades to preserve these endangered habitats for the animals and
plants that live in them.
The essay, Maryland s Environment: A 20,000 Year History of Change states, in the
early days of the colony, European settlers themselves slowly cleared the land. Their
pigs, cattle, horses, and fowl were fenced out of house yards and ranged free in the
Maryland woods. The activities of the livestock were very effective in clearing the
understory and preventing the regeneration of forests. Farming practices especially
tobacco agriculture, which was so widespread in Tidewater Maryland included the
frequent clearing of fields and their later abandonment due to exhausted soils, which led
to the fragmentation of forests and the creation of patchwork landscapes.
The late 1800s and early 1900s witnessed the most extensive deforestation in Maryland,
when approximately 80 percent of the land was cleared of trees. The result was

  • 3. History Of Mckay Dee Hospital Essay History of McKay Dee Hospital The Thomas D. Dee Memorial Hospital was founded in 1910 by Annie Taylor Dee and her eight children as a tribute to their husband and father, who had passed away in an accident. The hospital was ready for occupancy on December 29, 1910. Unfortunately, by 1914 the Dee family could no longer provide the funding needed to operate the hospital. Financial appeals to keep the hospital open were made to the Weber County Commissioners and medical staff, but to no avail. The hospital was scheduled to close on November 15, 1914. In an effort to save the hospital, Annie Taylor decided to write a letter to Elder David O. McKay, a member of the quorum of twelve apostles of the LDS Church, to petition for his help. Elder McKay held a meeting with members of the first presidency and presiding bishopric where it was determined that closing the hospital would be a calamity. A plan was formulated to save the institution by bringing the hospital into the LDS Church Hospital System (intermountainhealthcare.org). Hospital growth and accomplishments followed during the next thirty years. As time passed, the growth of the hospital required a new facility be constructed. It was suggested that the hospital be called McKay Dee Hospital to honor David O. McKay. It became an institution of healing on July 12, 1969. On November 10, 1971 The Thomas D. • 6. A Note On Detection Algorithm 2.1 PAGE CHANGE DETECTION ALGORITHM 2.1.1 Introduction: About 60% of the content on the web is dynamic. It is quiet possible that after downloading a particular web page, the local copy of the page residing in the repository of the web pages becomes obsolete compared to the copy on the web. Therefore a need arises to update the database of web pages. Once a decision has been taken to update the pages, it should be ensured that minimal resources are used in the process. Updating only those elements of the database, which have actually undergone a change, can do this. Importance of web pages to be downloaded has been discussed in the above section. It also checks whether the page is already there in the database or not and lowers its priority value if it is referred rather frequently. In this section, we discuss some algorithms to derive certain parameters, which can help in deriving the fact whether the page has changed, or not. These parameters will be calculated at the time of page parsing. When the client again counters the same URL, it just calculates the code by parsing the page without downloading the page and compares it to the current parameters. If changes in parameters are detected, it is concluded that the page has changed and needs to be downloaded again. Otherwise the URL is discarded immediately without further processing. The following changes are of importance when considering changes in a web page: Change in page structure. Change in text contents. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In application RFID is the use of radio signals to wirelessly track and identify tags that have been placed on an item. RFID is an emerging technology that is helping transportation companies, retailers, and manufacturers decrease handling times of goods and increase efficiencies at factories, warehouses, and store fronts by tracking objects with greater flexibility and less human involvement. RFID technology is unique and more adaptable than other tracking systems because it does not require a direct line of sight between the scanner and the object being identified. By Daniel Frankel The Lord of the Flies is a 250 page novel written by Sir William Golding. It was first published in 1954 and since then, has become a worldwide success. A quote from Golding was The right impression is the one that rises to the reader the first time he reads the book , This was perfectly suited for his book, as his book was a best seller. The movie based on the novel Lord of the Flies was first made in 1963 in black and white, then made again in colour in 1990 by Harry Hook. The movie has many deviations from the book however the storyline is basically the same and proved a success by grossing just under $14 million in the box office, making it a major film for the time period. Because this novel was such a success schools all around are still studying it in senior English. The Lord of the flies novel, starts at a reasonable pace and doesn t let the reader lose interest. Sir William Golding writes very descriptively and creates the images very clearly. For example his hair plastered to his forehead this gives the impression of heat, sweat, and steamy air. The story starts when a group of British school boys are stranded on an uninhabited island. Trying to maintain structure, the boys elect Ralph to be the leader, a position, Ralph, feels a duty as the eldest to fulfil. However, one of the other boys Jack wants to also be the leader, and ... When I just started, I was uncertain if the internship was right for me. The company primary focus is life insurance, which I had little knowledge in. It also requires persistence and effective communication in order to build and work in a team and find clients to do business with. I was confident in my persistency, but not in communication. However, my team reassured me that as long as I have the will to learn and be coachable, everything will be fine. I believed in them and used it as a motivation to push myself out of my comfort zone to achieve my goals. As I learned more about the company and what they do, I became more excited to be a part of it and was eager to start going into the field to help others. While I was studying for my life insurance license, I realized that it was not as hard as I thought it would be. I was able to receive my license on my first try and started going on training appointments with my mentors. To make sure that I set up appointments with the right people, my mentors helped me create a small script and show me a way to identify qualified people. At first, it was a bit challenging for me since I do not know much people that are qualified. However, I did not let that stop me and continue to move forward. • 26. Persuasive Essay On Music Education Music Education Despite the vast number of children who learn musical instruments, many people still do not fully understand all the benefits of music education. When budget cuts and low funding threaten course elimination, music is often one of the first to go. This should not be the case, however, because learning to play an instrument can build self esteem, increase various social and academic skills and can help them become a well rounded person (Montgomery). Music education is incredibly valuable, especially for children. The benefits that children can gain from learning music will make lasting impacts on them. Playing musical instruments has copious benefits on a child s intellect, and social skills, and personal growth. Learning music has incredible benefits on children s cognitive development and intelligence. Children gain many skills through music, and a child learning about music has to tap into multiple skill sets, often simultaneously (Brown). Learning music substantially helps children grow in other areas of learning. In a study by E. Glenn Schellenberg, six year olds were given voice and piano lessons and their IQ s were compared to six year olds without music lessons. At the end of the experiment, ...the children who were given music lessons over the school year tested on average three IQ points higher than the other groups (Brown). When children are involved in music, they are increasing their intellectual capacity. The ability to play or sing music can help children in math, english, and and problem solving. There have been countless studies and research that show higher test scores and grades in musical students when compared to non musical students. In fact, a research team exploring the link between music and intelligence reported that music training is far superior to computer instruction in dramatically enhancing children s abstract reasoning skills, the skills necessary for learning math and science (Shankar Mahadevan Academy). Music is an artistic area of study, but clearly has a strong impact on important core subjects for students. Through understanding rhythm and scales, as well as beats per measure, children can learn about fractions and other math skills. Reading the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I am going to consider the dramatic events of the scene, Shakespeare s use of language, the way the scene is structured and changing moods and how Shakespeare makes use of dramatic devices like scene shifts and range of characters. Shakespeare has divided this scene into 7 sections. Section one is when the servants prepare for the party and Lord Capulet welcomes the guests. You are welcome, gentlemen. Come musicians, play. This, by his voice, should be a Montague. Fetch me my rapier boy. This illustrates how Tybalt truly sought to kill Romeo so the mood in this section is tense, aggressive and severe. It looks as if Shakespeare is foreshadowing the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet when Tybalt talks about killing Romeo. The audience is left in apprehension for Romeo s fate. The fifth section of act one scene v is when Romeo and Juliet address and kiss for the first time. Thus from my lips by thine my sin is purg d. This demonstrates the mood of the scene, which is very passionate and moving, but at the same time also risky and treacherous. The mood is also positive and hopeful on that out of all the hatred the Montague s and Capulet s have for one another, there may possibly come some love. Shakespeare leaves the audience anxious for the future of Romeo and Juliet. Section six of act one scene v is when Romeo discovers that Juliet is a Capulet and is evidently shocked. O dear account! Life In Milan Kundera s The Unbearable Lightness Of Being In The Unbearable Lightness of Being , Milan Kundera informs readers that without the ability to compare our lives to others, we cannot find meaning in our lives, but remain between life s lightness and heaviness. He does this by illustrating the relationships between four characters: Tomas, Tereza, Sabina, and Franz. The novel begins in the year 1968 with Tomas, who is a brilliant surgeon from Prague and a perpetual bachelor. In a small town cafe, he fortuitously met Tereza, who was his waitress; to Tereza, the moment was magical because one of her favorite compositions by Beethoven was playing on the radio and that he enjoyed literature. Tereza evidently followed Tomas to Prague with her life packed within a suitcase and she intended to offer her life to him. The two started living with each other, but Tomas was incapable of terminating his bachelor lifestyle full of mistresses. He tried to hide his infidelity, but Tereza found a letter from one of his mistresses, Sabina. She wrote to Tomas saying, I want to make love to you in my studio. It will be like a stage surrounded by people. The audience won t be allowed up close, but they won t be able to take their eyes off us. (Pg. 16). Tomas confessed and told her that these sexual acts were separate from his love for her. This information marred Tereza s mind; she starting having horrendous nightmares and began contemplating suicide. He then married her, to relieve her of her distress. Yet he still kept his mistresses. Eventually Sabina and Tereza become close friends, but Tereza s jealousy still remained the same. Sabina, Tereza, and Tomas fled to Switzerland due to the Soviet Union inhabiting Czechoslovakia. Tereza left behind her career as a photographer, became unemployed, and had to sit home alone as Tomas continued his affairs. She then began to believe, when the strong were too weak to hurt the weak, the weak have to be strong enough to leave. (Pg. 75). Then, she returned back to Prague. Tomas was enjoying his liberation for a few days, but he gave up and left for Prague. This evidently meant that the couple gave up their freedom because there was no chance that the couple would be allowed to leave again due to the Communist regime. In ... People developed governments in order to guarantee that structure and stability are present within the region. While there are various forms of government, some are more effective than others. Yet the effectiveness of that form of government is mostly dictated by the time period it is being used in. Even though democracy is widely regarded as the best form of government in the 21st century, the same cannot be said for the 17th and 18th centuries. The most effective form of government for the 17th and 18th centuries in Europe is absolutism because of the power of religious unity, the importance of fear, and the focus of the overall well being of the state. Where democracy falls short is in the power of religious unity. Democracy promotes secular values which would have been extremely unsuccessful at the time while the very foundation of absolutism is based on a religious concept called the theory of The Divine Right of Kings. As explained by King James I of England in 1609, the theory of The Divine Right of Kings states that for kings are not only God s lieutenants upon Earth, and sit upon God s throne, but even by God himself they are called gods. William Shakespeare s Hamlet has been portrayed several times during the past centuries but what distinguishes each piece of work is how the directors approached the play. Hamlet without doubt is a troubled man overcome with the death of his father and the discovery that us uncle now step father murdered his late father, the king of Denmark. Kenneth Branagh s and Gregory Doran s portrayals of the famous closet scene demonstrates two extremes of Hamlet s relationship with his mother Gertrude. Branagh s version of the closet scene uses bright pastel colours such as blue, pink and red to show happiness and innocence. The use of light blue hints the youth of a child as it is often associated with the birth of boys in today s society. The only exception is Hamlet, as he is dressed all in black. His black clothing is not only used as a way to signify Hamlet s mourning of his father but also as a way to represent how Hamlet himself is corrupt. This contrasts with Gertrude s appearance who is dressed neatly in golden. Gold which symbolizes wealth and power is used to describe Gertrude s position of power in the kingdom. Additionally, the golden dress represents purity and demonstrates how Gertrude is oblivious to the corruption taking place in her kingdom. On the other hand, Doran s version uses much darker tones such as dark blues, silvers and golds. The use of silver and gold demonstrates the wealth and power the royal family has over themselves and society while the dark blue ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
