Bob Jones Research Paper
The greatest ability is dependability. ~Bob Jones For someone Like Bob Jones he knows what
dependability is because hey he was the founder of a university. But what this story is really about is
my mom and how dependable she can be. If you look up my mom in the dictionary the definition
would be sooo dependable, and when I say dependable I mean that she encourages me, hangs out with
me at home, and takes me places. My mom encourages me in a lot of different ways. I can always
depend on my mom to have a friend at the house and that friend of course is my mom. She is funny
and a pleasure to have around. My mom likes to watch the news with me and watch Wheel of Fortune
and Jeopardy with me at night. When I play video games she tries to

Managing Religious Conflict in Therapy
Running Head: MANAGING RELIGIOUS CONFLICT Managing Religious Conflict within
Psychotherapy Ryan Hagen UMASS Lowell Abstract This paper discusses the relationship of religion
and psychology within the setting of interpersonal dynamic psychotherapy. It raises the question of
whether and to what extent religion should be included in a therapeutic setting. Varying perspectives
on this issue are reviewed, followed by an examination of the consequences of addressing religion
within therapy. Several examples are offered of potential pit falls a therapist may encounter in this
situation as well as suggestions for minimizing the likelihood of these occurrences. Two models are
included which provide frameworks for assessing the degree ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In 1989, Richards, in a study of 100 Mormon patients, found that they were more trusting of therapists
who disclosed a belief in god. A lot of this depends on the patient. Quackenbos (et al 1986) outlined
four viewpoints or degrees of involvement a person may have with their religion, and how it is used to
interpret mental health. The four viewpoints are orthodox, moderate, neutralist and atheistic. These lay
on a continuum, where those with orthodox viewpoints believe mental problems are caused by sin,
and on the other end, atheistic sees mental problems as purely psychological. Another framework was
proposed by Batson and Ventis (1982). They argued that a therapist s need to understand the different
ways of being religious in order to understand the impact that religion may or may not have on their
patient. They created their framework around 3 dimensions, each of which has it s own continuum.
The 3 dimensions are quest, ends and means. The quest continuum measures the degree of importance
the individual places on existential questions, but does not necessarily feel an urgency to have
answered. An example of this would be an agnostic, or a philosopher who enjoys the process of
examining these kinds of questions. A person on the high end of this continuum would tend to have
doubts about religion, and be tentative about religious viewpoints. The means continuum

Why People Should Go To College
One of the first colleges ever created was established in 1636 by the vote of the great and general
court of Massachusetts Bay Colony, and was called Harvard (Harvard University). Many teenagers
believe that college can be very difficult so they forget about the benefits that a person receives after
attending. Not only teenagers believe this but also many adults that did not have the opportunity to
attend college. They believe what other people say about college without never trying it out and what
they say about college is that it is difficult, boring and tiring of the work. People should go to college
for greater success because it gives a better chance of landing a job, increases a person s income, and
gives people a chance to network. One

Comparison of Mexico and Brazil Essay examples
Brazil and Mexico are both the giants of their geographic realms (de Blij and Muller 219,254).
Mexico constitutes an entire geographic region of Middle America (200). The country of Brazil is also
considered a single region in South America (239). Both of these regions have very large populations
in comparison to the other regions of their realms. Mexico s current population of 102 million people
has more than doubled in size since 1970 (219). Brazil s estimated population is currently near 167
million people (254). The populations of both regions are becoming increasingly more urban in
character. At least seventy four percent of Mexico s population resides in cities or towns (220).
Similarly in Brazil, eighty percent of the population ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
67 million Brazilians can trace their ancestries to European, African, and Amerindian bloodlines. A
slim majority of Brazilians are of European decent. These people are the ancestors of immigrants from
Eastern Europe, Portugal, Germany, and Italy. Brazil also has the largest population of Japanese
outside of Japan (254).
Despite the differences in their ethnicity, the populations of these regions are both highly urbanized. In
Brazil eighty percent of the population resides in urban areas (Microsoft Encarta). Nearly seventy five
percent of Mexico s people are urban dwellers (de Blij and Muller 220). The largest cities of these
regions are Mexico City, Mexico (221) and Sao Paulo, Brazil (259). Mexico City is the home of a
little more than twenty five percent of Mexico s total population. Mexico City s population grows by
amazing amounts each year; the city will probably soon be the most populated city on Earth. Right
now the population of Mexico City is twenty eight million (221). Sao Paulo in Brazil is also growing
remarkably fast. Presently the population of Sao Paulo is Twenty three million Sao Paulo s population
has more than doubled in the past thirty years (259).
Sao Paulo and Mexico City are facing some of the same problems. Sao Paulo and Mexico City are
both marked by areas of great economic contrasts. Mexico City has more than five hundred areas that
can be called slums.

Everything Tim Burton Does Wrong In Sleepy Hollow
Everything Tim Burton Does Wrong in Sleepy Hollow Movie plots deviating from the stories they
were based on is something that happens a lot and is especially evident in the film Sleepy Hollow
which was based on Washington Irving s story. Tim Burton is the director of the movie and although
he has some similarities to the book in his work, much of his finished production is very different.
Burton goes wrong in some very obvious ways and also some more subtle ways as well. The
difference that stood out to me the most was how Burton totally changed the background of the
leading character Ichabod. In the short story, Ichabod is a school teacher who lives in each of the
surrounding families houses for one week at a time. He has a very humble personality and he also
believes in superstition as he appreciates the beauty in nature around him. In the film, however, he is
portrayed as a peculiar constable from New York City. He is also more scientific and a skeptic as
opposed to having a meek personality has come to Sleepy Hollow in order to investigate the strange
happenings. In the book, the character of Ichabod is described as comical looking and that someone
might mistake him for a scarecrow. In the movie, Johnny ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The story seems to be made more about dread, however, when watching the movie, you get the feel of
horror from the very beginning and I think Burton s goal was to create more of a scary story than
actually follow the book closely. This can be further evidenced by the fact that in the movie, the
headless horseman is real. The real story ends with the implication that the horseman might have been
Brom Bones and that everything scary that happened, could be explained. In the film, Burton goes
through a long backstory of witchcraft to explain the origin of the headless

King Richard Iii and Looking for Richard Essay
The texts King Richard III and Looking for Richard both accept the centrality of power and the
yearning for it, as a central plot driver and an assumed part of the human condition. However, each
presents a different perspective as to the nature of power; its origins and morality. Discuss this
statement with close, detailed reference to both texts set for study. Power is defined as the possession
of control or command over people and events. In Shakespeare s play King Richard III , the centrality
of power is communicated through characters and their pursuit for power while in Looking for
Richard , Al Pacino s docudrama exploring Richard as a character, his struggle for power is portrayed
as well as Pacino s struggle as he produces ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As they become restless, low angle shots are used to portray their changing expressions. The
discussion about American actors and their inferiority complex also highlight the centrality of power
in the film. There is a debate about how Shakespeare causes some of the best actors to become self
conscious as they have been told they cannot do Shakespeare . There is a struggle for American actors
as they feel inferior to the British and these hurdles that must be overcome by the American actors
highlight the significance of power in the play, and in the production of the play. For the Elizabethan
audience of Shakespeare s plays, power was given by God. Power and associated wealth was a
birthright and you got what was given to you. It was understood that a hierarchy was established by
God. Richard, in his quest for the throne, challenged God as the throne was not rightfully his, as his
two nephews and his brothers were still alive. From the theo centric worldview that the Elizabethan
society would have held, Richard never had a chance because he was a mere man challenging God.
Richard is closely aligned to the fallen angel and the devil, being called hellish , a cacodemon , a foul
devil by himself, Margaret and Anne respectively. The use of such words emphasise his direct attack
on God by choosing to be evil. Richard s challenge against

Pulau Ubin Essay
Pulau Ubin is an island at the east of Singapore and often regarded as the last kampung village in the
country. Strolling through the roads of Ubin literally takes you back in time, back to the Singapore in
the 1960 s where life was so much simpler. Your adventure begins the moment you queue up for the
ferry ride in Changi, and when you arrive, a great day of relaxation and refreshment awaits you.
Ubin is a great place for you to stroll or cycle through rustic roads under coconut palms swaying in the
cool breeze, traversing shady trails in overgrown rubber plantations, surveying undisturbed beaches
and thriving mangroves. On Ubin, food is delicious, air is cooling and sights and sounds so refreshing
to the soul.
However, all these could be changed in a few year s time.

Suggestions to Pulau Ubin s future development became clearer in the 1991 Concept Plan. It was

purposes for as long as possible. However, if Singapore s population exceeds a certain number, the off
shore islands will be developed and connected to the mainland by Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) and a
major road.
Imagine in future, Ubin, a place with fresh air and beautiful greenery where people refresh themselves
at, developed into a theme park like Universal Studios Singapore and reachable by MRT or car,
completely destroying the biodiversity on the island and even driving the residents back into mainland
just for the purpose of industrialisation. In short, sacrificing the minority for the benefits of the

String Theory
What is string theory and what does it mean for human kind? String theory is a theory that seeks to
unify the four forces of nature and explain the origins of our universe. Before the string theory, it was
impossible to combine the theories of General Relativity and Quantum Mechanics. By using tiny
vibrating strings of energy that are 10 33 m in length, scientists can create all the fundamental particles
we ve started to find using particle accelerators. Then, using these particles they can try to unite the
two different theories and create a universe that is perhaps, more perfect than the Standard Model will
allow. And what s great about string theory is that it explains more than just how gravity,
electromagnetic force, weak nuclear ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Einstein spoke about the relationship of energy to mass and using his formulas, scientists have
theorized that the energy released from two membranes colliding could create our universe!
Furthermore, there is nothing to suggest that the membranes could have only banged together once, so
perhaps our universe is not the first nor the last to be created. So thus string theory united the universe,
theorizes about additional universes and proposes a neat solution to the question of how the Big Bang
was triggered! Fortunately, string theory only has one problem. Unfortunately, it s a huge problem:
there is currently no way to test the validity of string theory because all theoretical tests proposed to
find strings would take millions of times the amount of energy we have at our disposal. Our highest
powered particle accelerators are too feebly underpowered to even find gravitons, let alone the strings
that would prove string theory correct. Despite these problems with directly proving string theory,
physicists like Brian Greene and Lisa Randal (classmates from Stuyvesant) continue to seek out
circumstantial evidence like supersymmetry (each particle has a sparticle (superparticle)), new
dimensions and gravitons or rather the absence of gravitons as they escape into different dimensions.
There are of course physicists who warn that because string theory is

Obstructive Sleep Apnea And Effects On Blood Pressure Essay
Continuous Positive Airway Pressure in Those with Obstructive Sleep Apnea and the Effects on Blood
Pressure
One issue faced daily in primary care is the incidence of hypertension. This disease impacts
approximately 25% of the adult population in the world. Risk factors for hypertension include
genetics, poor diet, obesity, sedentary lifestyle, and other disease processes. In addition, obstructive
sleep apnea (OSA) has been recognized as an additional risk factor in the development of
hypertension according to European and US guidelines (Pepin et al, 2014). According to Ohio State
physicians Magalang and Valentine, (2015), there are possibly ten million people who have resistant
hypertension, and most of those have OSA. In contrast, the National Sleep Foundation explains that
sleep apnea affects more than 18 million people (Sleepapnea.org, n.d.). These numbers are staggering.
A diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea increases a patient s chances of developing hypertension. With
this information in mind, it is prudent to recognize the correlation between treating obstructive sleep
apnea with CPAP therapy and the benefits of this therapy in regards to blood pressure. Keeping in
mind that many patients with sleep apnea have hypertension, questions remain regarding treatment
options. Today, many patients use more than two medications in order to decrease their blood
pressures; unfortunately, this does not always work (Magalang Valentine, 2015). If it is our duty as

Investigating The Victimization Of Persons With Mental...
Abstract
This paper explores two published articles that investigate the victimization of persons with Mental
Retardation (MR). Specifically, this paper examined the differences between MR and mental illness,
the risk of victimization and the nature of victimization for persons with MR, factors contributing to
the risk of victimization for persons with MR, and perpetrators of victimization against persons with
MR. Studies have found several influences contributing to the risk of victimization for persons with
MR including victim related factors, relationship factors and environmental factors. Together, these
findings suggest that persons with MR are at a higher risk of being victimized.
The Effects of Victimization on Persons with Mental Retardation Mental Retardation (MR) is a
developmental disability along with autism, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and learning disabilities
(Petersilia, 2001). Specifically, MR is defined as significant limitations in intellectual functioning and
adaptive skills in two or more areas: self care, social skills, home living and other fundamental issues
for life functioning (Nettlebeck Wilson, 2002; Petersilia, 2001). Such limitations should originate
before age 18 and are commonly presented at birth. An IQ level below 70 is also used as a criterion for
measuring intellectual functioning in individuals with MR (Nettlebeck Wilson, 2002; Petersilia, 2001).
Distinctions exist between MR and mental illness. For example, a

However, Southern Adventist University, a traditional higher education institution established by
Seventh Day Adventist Church offers a wide number of programs or a chain of programs from
Certificate to the doctoral level, where students choose which area or program to major in. This
institution, unlike College of Atlantis nurtures Christlikeness and encourages the pursuits of truths,
wholeness, and a life of service to its students and society at large. This school embrace the integration
of faith and learning as they model academic and professional excellence . Hence, this type of

the individual becomes better equipped to bring wholeness to a broken world (White 1872). Although,

The following report contains a financial analysis of Tesco PLC and its current trading position for the
financial year ending February 2010. The data that has been analysed will be compared with the
previous year s finances. It will include information such as performance, the businesses liquidity, and
Tesco s efficiency. It will also show the extent to which Tesco may or may not appeal to potential
investors after the past financial year. In the current economic situation facing the country it s natural
to expect that there has been a downturn in performance due to most people feeling the effect of the

compares a firm s current assets to its current liabilities. The businesses current ratio showed the same
figure of 0.7:1 in 2009 as well as 2010. This won t be a concern to Tesco with them selling food
products they will not hold onto stock for very long due to the fact it will go off. So this low figure
just represents the sort of market Tesco operates in. Gearing Gearing represents the percentage of a
business that has been financed from borrowing money rather than from investors or shareholders. In
2009 Tesco s gearing was 74% but this was reduced significantly in 2010 to 54%. Being highly geared
is often seen as being a problem so the figure seen in 2009 can be viewed as a negative. However in
2009 Tesco underwent a huge expansion process into different countries which is a large venture and
would therefore require a lot of financial backing for it to actually work. This point shows why the
figure in 2009 was so high as borrowing money would be a good way of providing the financial
backing needed to get up and running in the various different places. In 2010 the figure falls to 54% a
significant decrease which shows during that year Tesco must

How Music Affects The Brain And People s Emotions
iSearch Paper: The Power of Music
For my iSearch paper I am researching how music affects the brain and people s emotions. Although
this is a complex issue, my passion has always involved music and an interest in how it affects how
people react and think. I play the violin, and from personal experience I have noticed that when I am
playing I have an emotional connection to the piece, whether it is sad, happy, or even upsetting. I have
also noticed that the audience has an emotional impact based on what was performed. I plan to

Also, I would like to know if music has an effect on the brain that is significant enough for people to

I began and followed my research plan by starting out by picking a few articles that discuss music in
relation to the brain. I picked my article out based on what interests me most, which is music. I began
by researching how music effects people and what emotional impact it has on people. Then, I came
across articles with information about projects and research that had been done involving the brain and
its connection to the spoken language. So far, I have located my sources through the internet using
google. All of the articles that I have found have been very helpful and include sources of experiments
done with results. They also include quotes from the researchers involved with the experiment and
comments made by renowned scientist like Darwin. I had to form questions based off of the articles
and use information I already had from being a musician to help with that process. Questions that
helped guide my research were based on experiments that had been done regarding the brain and the
question of how musical communication evolved. The emotional and universal aspect also brought up
interest throughout my research that inspired a few questions about music today compared to music in
the past. I found evidence to back up my

Thomas Hobbes And The Constitutional Struggle
Thomas Hobbes was born April 5, 1588 in Malmesbery. His father left the family in 1604 and never
returned. Hobbes was then raised and educated by the support of his uncle. His younger years of
education were received through local schools while his college education in the classics was received
from Magdalen Hall, University of Oxford.
After he received his education, Thomas Hobbes became the tutor of William Cavendish in 1608. Two
years after becoming his tutor, Cavendish and Hobbes travelled to Europe together visiting Germany,
France, and Italy. After Cavendish died in 1628, Hobbes obtained another position within the
Cavendish family but later became the tutor to William s son. During those years, Hobbes returned to

He remained in voluntary exile for 11 years. During that time he became a tutor for the Prince of
Whales who was also exiled.
Hobbes believed that without a social contract people would come to live in a state of nature. Meaning
that there would be no common way of life and people would live in fear of one another. Without the
social contract there would be no authority to set up any laws. People would behave in anarchy and
chaos. Society would only act on what benefit themselves instead of each other as a whole. This kind
of society would only result in an upright war between the people living among each other. Hobbes
perceived the ideal society in his best known piece of work, Leviathan, publish at the end of his exile
in 1651. Throughout four books, the Leviathan argues that civil peace and social unity are best
accomplished by establishment of common wealth through a social contract.
In the Leviathan, Hobbes s ideal common wealth is ruled by a sovereign power that is granted
absolute authority in order to ensure their responsibility of protecting the common wealth. In his
books, Thomas Hobbes portrays the common wealth as a gigantic human, whose form is built out of
the bodies of citizens. The sovereign power is considered the head because it is what controls the
citizens. Hobbes calls this figure the Leviathan , named after a monstrous sea creature that appears in
the Bible. His piece

Should Chocolate Milk Be Allowed In Schools
Should Chocolate Milk Be Banned From Schools

A lot of schools and schools have asked this question. Should chocolate milk be allowed in school?
This is a question that the principal of of Westpark Elementary wants the answer to. She decided to

chocolate milk than white milk and like it better, chocolate milk is actually really nutritious and
healthy, and because it makes a better drink than sports drinks or Cola.

had such an immense amount of power that he was able to have rivals of the revolution put to death.
Robespierre s power came from his joining of the Committee of Public Safety (CSP), whose original
job was to deal with diplomacy and warfare with foreign enemies; though under Robespierre s power,
the CSP became a part of the government which dealt with internal policing, which got in the way of
the jurisdiction of the Committee of General Security (CSG). The job of the CSG was to remove and
discipline enemies of the revolution, though they ended up competing with the CSP for power over
this matter. With this influence from his place in the CSP, he climbed a social ladder to becoming both
extremely influential as well as difficult to remove from control. Despite the fact that Robespierre held
a great deal of power, his authority eventually declined and led to his death: while working within the
CSP, he ordered countless individuals to be guillotined whether or not people on the outside of the
conflict viewed them as deserving of such punishment: in one instance, he put to death several people
that he viewed as anti revolutionary: Georges Jacques Danton, Lucie Simplice Desmoulins, Jean
François Delacroix, and Pierre Philippeaux. Robespierre did not leave this up to the CSG whose job
was to punish this type of people and because of this, he gained the reputation of a tyrant he

The figures indicate that in the short term, the Oroton Group would only be able to pay back 49% and
47% of currents liabilities respectively in the very short term. In 2007, this figure rose to 78% which is
a better ratio, although still not at the preferable ratio. gEARING RATIOS

Grapes Of Wrath Allusions
In his novel Grapes of Wrath, John Steinbeck integrated many biblical references and values
throughout the book. This provided a more intriguing and complex style of writing that he used to tell
about the Dust Bowl of the early 1900 s and the arduous journey the Joad family and many others took
to reach California. The first biblical reference is revealed when the Joad family leaves for California.
the rest swarmed up on top of the load, Connie and Rose of Sharon, Pa and Uncle John, Ruthie and
Winfield, Tom and the preacher. Noah stood on the ground, looking up at the great load of them sitting
on top of the truck (Steinbeck 113) This passage relates to the loading of animals into Noah s Ark in

Another biblical reference is shown when the Joad s move to California. Their journey to California
from Oklahoma is a biblical reference due to the similarity to the exodus of the Jews to Israel from
Egypt. This is distinguished by the similarities between the Joad s and the Jews, the Joad s were
captives of their farm while the Jews were captives of Egypt. Throughout their journey, Ma becomes a
Moses like figure but leading the family through hard times and tries to keep the family together. She
kept the family moving towards California even though Grandma was dead in her lap. California was
the promised land for the Joad s and other Okies and Ma led the family there. California brings about
another biblical allusion. As part of Moses bringing his people out of Egypt, he told of a promised
land to where he would take the Israelites, and that land was Canaan. For the Joad s and many other
migrants, California was the promised land they were searching for. Apart from both of the promised
lands beginning with the letter C, they had many things in common. The vineyards, the orchards, the
great flat valley, green and beautiful...the peach trees and the walnut groves, and the dark green
patches of oranges (Steinbeck 227). This is an allusion to the promised land of the Jews, where in
Numbers 13:27 it states We went into the land to which you sent us, and it does flow with milk and
honey! Here is its fruit (Zondervan 207). Both lands were bursting with

however, a backing track wasn t required, and the John s would create their own backing tracks on
stage in a number of different ways. This included, and still includes to this day The Stick . The Stick
is a long piece of wood with a omni directional microphone attached to the bottom of it with duct tape.
This is slammed against the stage by John Flansburgh (or in the early 90 s, a fan from the audience) to
a repetitive beat over which Linnell would play the baritone saxophone, or keyboards to their song Lie

Linnell instructs the audience to stomp on the floor in ¾ time while chanting the word Love! . (They

Usefulness And Limitations Of Financial Ratios
Usefulness and limitations of financial ratios in evaluating the performance and management of
companies
Ratio analysis is used to describe the important relationship that lies between figures based on line
items in financial statements like the balance sheet, profit and loss account, and a budgetary control
organization. Ratio analysis is a technique of analysis and interpretation of financial statements. It
helps in evaluating the financial position and performance of the firm, ratio analysis also allows firms
to compare their operational or financial performance to another firm or the industry standard. This
essay will firstly discuss the purpose of financial ratios, its users and how it is applied. It will then
move on to discuss the signification and limitations of ratio analysis. Furthermore, a discussion about
the usefulness of specific ratios will be held using the 2013 annual report of easy jet. Lastly, my own
views on the issues of financial statements, specifically financial ratios will be presented.
With the help of financial statements that arise by the firm, analytical methods can be used to get
information about the course of the business and the economic state. By calculating a small number of
ratios it is possible to develop a clear picture of the position and performance of a firm (P.Atrill and
E.Mclaney 2013). Financial ratios have two main users, management and inventors. Management uses
financial ratios to analyse, control and determine the

The Disability Rights Movement Summary
In the book The disability rights movement I learned the history and process people with disabilities
have been going through in order to obtain an equality of rights in the United States. The book was
written by Doris Zames Fleisher and her sister Frieda Zames as a way of raising awareness of the
reality of people with disabilities. Frieda Zames an activist in favor of the American disabilities act,
wrote this book to tell the story of civil rights movement and to make people aware of the struggles
that people with disabilities go through at the same time raising the word for equality. The book
demonstrates how grievances regarding medical issues can be addressed in a democratic society by
giving examples such as the life of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. As a significant figure in this
movement, Franklin D. Roosevelt was the first president with disabilities, who contracted polio eleven
years before he became president. He was a significant figure in the movement because he served as
an example of the capabilities a person with a disabilities can have. He was also an advocate of ...

The Impact Of Sarbanes Oxley Act On Public Companies And...
The affects of the Sarbanes Oxley Act on Public Companies and the Market

University of Maryland University College
The Affects of the Sarbanes Oxley Act on Public Companies and the Market The Sarbanes Oxley Act
of 2002 was implemented and designed to protect the interests of the investing public and the mission
is to set and enforce practice standards for a new class of firms registered to audit publicly held
companies (Verschoor, 2012). During the early 2000 s, the world saw an alarming number of
accounting scandals take place resulting in many corporations going bankrupt. Some of the major
companies involved in these scandals were from Enron, WorldCom, and one of the top five
accounting and auditing firms, Arthur Andersen. These companies were dishonest with their financial
statements, assuring the public the company was very successful, when in reality they were not. This
became a problem because if the public believes a company is doing well, they are more likely to
invest in it. That is to say, once these companies were exposed, it caused a number of companies going
bankrupt and a major mistrust between the public and the capital market. Consequently, the federal
government quickly took action and enacted the Sarbanes Oxley act of 2002, also known as SOX,
which was created by the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB), and the Securities
and Exchange Commission (SEC). Many have questioned what Norman Bowie (2004) had
questioned,

Containment in Boxes
A box without hinges, key, or lid, yet golden treasure inside is hid.
J. R. R. Tolkien The box is a ubiquitous object, a box of some kind or another can be found in every
culture. For the purpose of this essay it will look at the box from a western viewpoint. Given the
perimeters of this essay I will confine the discussion of the box to Art Therapy, as it is made,
appointed or constructed in the art therapy context; and instead of clinical studies I will be using art as
examples. Boxes appear in all cultures and times, their uses range from hiding, to safe keeping; from
precious to the mundane, The coffin to the bread box. Boxes have become modern man s ways of
organising their office, house, garage, and under the bed secrets. You can shop at stores dedicated
entirely to boxes of all shapes and sizes; The Container Store in the USA, is a great example of this,
an almost obsessive need the Western modern man has to contain things. Might there be some deeper
unmet needs being communicated through this desire to contain the physical things in ones life? True
a way of organising, but could it also be a way of finding physical structure and space just by putting
on a lid and sliding it into a slot under a bed, or into a closet? The ability to controls one s own chaos
without too much work or introspection. Could it be possible that western people find organising and
putting things into containers de stressing because it gives the feeling of having

Terrorist Attacks On The World Trade Center
There is little doubt that the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York on September 11
drastically changed America s sense of security in recent years. Yet the country is facing another kind
of threat, one that is not entirely different than the dangers of terrorism at a global scale: domestic
terrorism. At its core, domestic terrorism differs from any other type of terrorism in the sense that
those who carry it out are citizens or permanent residents of a given country and who inflict violence
and intimidation against their fellow citizens or permanent residents in the pursuit of political aims
(Sharpe, 2000, p. 606). In that sense, domestic terrorism may also be called homegrown terrorism.
Perhaps the best, and most gruesome, example that shows the difference between domestic terrorism
and other types of terrorism is the bombing of the World Trade Center. In the September 11 attacks,
the perpetrators were Islamist jihadists who belong to al Qaeda, a Sunni Islamist organization that
America eventually categorized as a network of terrorist groups. Most of the direct perpetrators
themselves were from Saudi Arabia while the rest were from Egypt, Lebanon, and the United Arab
Emirates (Bell, Clay, Murdie Piazza, 2014, p. 607). In other words, they were non citizens of America.
In the aftermath of the attacks, authorities revealed that most of the victims were American citizens
and permanent residents. The fact that the attacks were carried out in American

Political Ideology
The Democratic and the Republican parties dominate American politics. They are both different in
their philosophies and ideals. Political parties win elections, operate the government, and determine
public policy. They compete with each other for support of the voters over issues that have to do with
the economy, national security and individual liberties. Political parties determine and make the
important choices that affect our everyday lives. Democratic is liberal and left leaning, the symbol is a
donkey and the representing color is blue. Republican is conservative and right leaning, the symbol is
an elephant and the representing color is red. The three political topics that stick out to me the most
are abortion, gun control, and gay rights/marriage. The Democratic Party was founded on March 3rd,
1828. The founders of liberal democrats are Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. They became
recognized in the mid nineteenth century. Some popular current democrats would be President Barack
Hussein Obama, former senator and secretary of state Hillary Clinton, and former president Bill
Clinton. The word is a Greek origin meaning ruled by the people. Slave activists founded Republicans
on March 4th, 1854. Some popular republicans today are Ted Cruz (senator), Orrin Grant Hatch, and
John Boehner speaker of the house of reps. The word Republican originates from the middle French
meaning belonging to a republic. One

Pros And Cons Of Spirit Family Support Shelter
DISCUSSION A. Does Spirit Family Support Shelter constitute as a dwelling under the Fair Housing
Act (FHA)? The first issue is whether Spirit Family Support Shelter qualifies as a dwelling under the
Fair Housing Act. Under the FHA, a dwelling is any building, structure, or portion thereof, for
purposes of occupancy, as a residence by one or more families, and any vacant land offered for sale or

The Science of Radiocarbon Dating Essay
The Science of Radiocarbon Dating
When we think of history, we think of important people, places, cultures, events, and much more. The
backbone of history rests on its chronology. It gives us the when of basic analysis. It gives us a frame
of reference, the order of things. Before having an absolute way of determining dates, history was
based in guesses and assumptions. Many attempts were made to organize the dates of the past. Some
of these attempts were made by geologist. Geologist used the idea of stratigraphic succession
(Renfrew, 1973) which is based on the principle that when successive layers or strata are observed in
position, the underlying ones are the earliest. (Pg. 23 Renfrew, 1973) By setting the layers in ... Show

This changed history forever. While it created controversy, due to some people s attachments to the
old ways of dating and doubts in this revolutionary method, it proved to be the closest method to have
an accurate chronology of history. In 1955, to prove the accuracy or radiocarbon, Libby published a
graph that showed the comparison of the results of radiocarbon dating of specimens from Egypt.
These specimens had already an absolute known date. The graph proved the accuracy of Libby s
radiocarbon dating. Figure 1 (Renfrew, 1973)
Libby developed the method of radiocarbon dating though his observation of how cosmic rays create
radiocarbon. From outer space cosmic rays infiltrate earth s atmosphere. In the upper atmosphere,
these rays hit nitrogen and oxygen atoms in the air. (Renfrew, 1973). When the neutrons of these high
energy particles (mostly protons) hit nitrogen atoms, Carbon 14 (C 14) is created. The nitrogen atom
(atomic number 7) has an atomic mass of 14 (with 7 protons and 7 neutrons). When the nucleus of the
nitrogen is hit by the cosmic ray s neutrons, the atomic number of the atom decreases by one. The
make up of its atomic mass changes, a proton is emitted and the neutrons are increased by one;
therefore, the atomic mass number stays the same. Because the atomic number has changed, a new
element, carbon 14, with atomic number 6, has an atomic mass of 14 (with 6 protons and 8 neutrons).
(Bowman, 1990) The reaction is 14N + n = 14c + p (where n is a

The Importance Of Protests In Advertising
Advertisers utilize popular culture and current events to sell their products all of the time. The topic of
protests has made the rounds among news stories. Hearing about protests and rallies is not out of the
norm. The news includes numerous stories about organized protests and the violence that can occur as
a result of them. After viewing Pepsi s Kendall Jenner commercial, it is obvious that Pepsi drew its
inspiration from these events. The most important moment in the commercial is when Jenner hands a
Pepsi to a police officer; He smiles and the crowd cheers. This moment is also the most controversial
scene of the entire commercial. Many people believe that the commercial is in bad taste and that it
makes light of a serious situation. According to Wired, The message is clear: All those women s
marches, Black Lives Matter protests, and demonstrations outside Trump Tower would be much more
effervescent and effective! if someone had just brought some soda (Watercutter). Pepsi appeals to
viewers via logos through logical fallacies. Specifically, they are using emotion, authority, and
popularity to sell their soda. Pepsi appeals to emotion by making a protest a focal point of the
commercial. Typically, anger and gladness drive protestors. The point of protesting is to voice an
opinion and promote change. Protesters are angry that they have an unresolved issue, but glad that
they are surrounded by like minded people. In America today, protests are all over the news.

INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
I C ENGINE is an engine, where the combustion of fuel ( in general fossil fuel ) occurs with an

An Analysis of Song of Myself
The medicine of conformity changes into poison as time passes. Pain is alleviated as the conformist
follows the path that has been carved for him rather than designing one of his own. However, the relief
is temporary as the benefiter turns into a prisoner of standards and can no longer live as he pleases.
Transcendentalism was a movement that celebrated the self and emphasized living life rather than
structuring it. One transcendentalist, Walt Whitman, builds the theme of individualism in Song of
Myself by using free verse, symbolism, and rhythm.

Intuitive decisions allow self appreciation since the results of those choices were self deprived. People
can say I celebrate myself, and sing myself, And what I assume you shall assume, For every atom
belonging to me as good belongs to you. The repetition of words, including myself, assume, and
belong, emphasizes Whitman s understanding of himself. He loves himself, as indicated through his
free verse style, and wants to convey that emotion to the audience. His exchange with them and the
atom symbolizes the connectivity he feels with his readers. At the core of his identity is his humanity,
which he shares with his readers, along with his thoughts and emotions. Whitman does not see himself
as an outsider for following his intuition, rather a representative of humanity. Similarly, atoms are the
simplest form of matter. As people conform, their life becomes complicated. To live a life adopted
from society is to live meanly, like ants (Thoreau 395). Such a life involves following others and
living a monotonous life without considering its purpose. Running a path that was designed by
someone else is exhausting as one keeps considering what the next task is to continue the path. The
longer this life continues, the longer one lives in

Marketing Focused Career Within The Retail Industry Essay
After graduation I aspire to be involved in a marketing focused career within the retail industry. The

decade it has become clear the obvious signs of globalisation affecting the Australian retail industry
immensely. Many of the major international retailers have entered the Australian market such as Aldi,

2015. A recent article in the Sydney Morning Herald by journalist Carolyn Cummins, quotes that the
outlook on store expansion in these retailers home establishments are scarce, however Australia has

businesses in Australia are small businesses, Australia is known to have one of the most mature and

  • 4. Managing Religious Conflict in Therapy Running Head: MANAGING RELIGIOUS CONFLICT Managing Religious Conflict within Psychotherapy Ryan Hagen UMASS Lowell Abstract This paper discusses the relationship of religion and psychology within the setting of interpersonal dynamic psychotherapy. It raises the question of whether and to what extent religion should be included in a therapeutic setting. Varying perspectives on this issue are reviewed, followed by an examination of the consequences of addressing religion within therapy. Several examples are offered of potential pit falls a therapist may encounter in this situation as well as suggestions for minimizing the likelihood of these occurrences. Two models are included which provide frameworks for assessing the degree ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1989, Richards, in a study of 100 Mormon patients, found that they were more trusting of therapists who disclosed a belief in god. A lot of this depends on the patient. Quackenbos (et al 1986) outlined four viewpoints or degrees of involvement a person may have with their religion, and how it is used to interpret mental health. The four viewpoints are orthodox, moderate, neutralist and atheistic. These lay on a continuum, where those with orthodox viewpoints believe mental problems are caused by sin, and on the other end, atheistic sees mental problems as purely psychological. Another framework was proposed by Batson and Ventis (1982). They argued that a therapist s need to understand the different ways of being religious in order to understand the impact that religion may or may not have on their patient. They created their framework around 3 dimensions, each of which has it s own continuum. The 3 dimensions are quest, ends and means. The quest continuum measures the degree of importance the individual places on existential questions, but does not necessarily feel an urgency to have answered. An example of this would be an agnostic, or a philosopher who enjoys the process of examining these kinds of questions. A person on the high end of this continuum would tend to have doubts about religion, and be tentative about religious viewpoints. The means continuum ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Why People Should Go To College One of the first colleges ever created was established in 1636 by the vote of the great and general court of Massachusetts Bay Colony, and was called Harvard (Harvard University). Many teenagers believe that college can be very difficult so they forget about the benefits that a person receives after attending. Not only teenagers believe this but also many adults that did not have the opportunity to attend college. They believe what other people say about college without never trying it out and what they say about college is that it is difficult, boring and tiring of the work. • 6. Comparison of Mexico and Brazil Essay examples Brazil and Mexico are both the giants of their geographic realms (de Blij and Muller 219,254). Mexico constitutes an entire geographic region of Middle America (200). The country of Brazil is also considered a single region in South America (239). Both of these regions have very large populations in comparison to the other regions of their realms. Mexico s current population of 102 million people has more than doubled in size since 1970 (219). Brazil s estimated population is currently near 167 million people (254). The populations of both regions are becoming increasingly more urban in character. • 7. Everything Tim Burton Does Wrong In Sleepy Hollow Everything Tim Burton Does Wrong in Sleepy Hollow Movie plots deviating from the stories they were based on is something that happens a lot and is especially evident in the film Sleepy Hollow which was based on Washington Irving s story. Tim Burton is the director of the movie and although he has some similarities to the book in his work, much of his finished production is very different. Burton goes wrong in some very obvious ways and also some more subtle ways as well. The difference that stood out to me the most was how Burton totally changed the background of the leading character Ichabod. In the short story, Ichabod is a school teacher who lives in each of the surrounding families houses for one week at a time. He has a very humble personality and he also believes in superstition as he appreciates the beauty in nature around him. In the film, however, he is portrayed as a peculiar constable from New York City. He is also more scientific and a skeptic as opposed to having a meek personality has come to Sleepy Hollow in order to investigate the strange happenings. In the book, the character of Ichabod is described as comical looking and that someone might mistake him for a scarecrow. In the movie, Johnny ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The story seems to be made more about dread, however, when watching the movie, you get the feel of horror from the very beginning and I think Burton s goal was to create more of a scary story than actually follow the book closely. This can be further evidenced by the fact that in the movie, the headless horseman is real. The real story ends with the implication that the horseman might have been Brom Bones and that everything scary that happened, could be explained. In the film, Burton goes through a long backstory of witchcraft to explain the origin of the headless ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

King Richard Iii and Looking for Richard Essay The texts King Richard III and Looking for Richard both accept the centrality of power and the yearning for it, as a central plot driver and an assumed part of the human condition. However, each presents a different perspective as to the nature of power; its origins and morality. Discuss this statement with close, detailed reference to both texts set for study. Power is defined as the possession of control or command over people and events. In Shakespeare s play King Richard III , the centrality of power is communicated through characters and their pursuit for power while in Looking for Richard , Al Pacino s docudrama exploring Richard as a character, his struggle for power is portrayed as well as Pacino s struggle as he produces ... There is a struggle for American actors as they feel inferior to the British and these hurdles that must be overcome by the American actors highlight the significance of power in the play, and in the production of the play. For the Elizabethan audience of Shakespeare s plays, power was given by God. Power and associated wealth was a birthright and you got what was given to you. It was understood that a hierarchy was established by God. Richard, in his quest for the throne, challenged God as the throne was not rightfully his, as his two nephews and his brothers were still alive. From the theo centric worldview that the Elizabethan society would have held, Richard never had a chance because he was a mere man challenging God. Strolling through the roads of Ubin literally takes you back in time, back to the Singapore in the 1960 s where life was so much simpler. Your adventure begins the moment you queue up for the ferry ride in Changi, and when you arrive, a great day of relaxation and refreshment awaits you. • 10. String Theory What is string theory and what does it mean for human kind? String theory is a theory that seeks to unify the four forces of nature and explain the origins of our universe. Before the string theory, it was impossible to combine the theories of General Relativity and Quantum Mechanics. By using tiny vibrating strings of energy that are 10 33 m in length, scientists can create all the fundamental particles we ve started to find using particle accelerators. Then, using these particles they can try to unite the two different theories and create a universe that is perhaps, more perfect than the Standard Model will allow. And what s great about string theory is that it explains more than just how gravity, electromagnetic force, weak nuclear ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Einstein spoke about the relationship of energy to mass and using his formulas, scientists have theorized that the energy released from two membranes colliding could create our universe! Furthermore, there is nothing to suggest that the membranes could have only banged together once, so perhaps our universe is not the first nor the last to be created. So thus string theory united the universe, theorizes about additional universes and proposes a neat solution to the question of how the Big Bang was triggered! Fortunately, string theory only has one problem. Unfortunately, it s a huge problem: there is currently no way to test the validity of string theory because all theoretical tests proposed to find strings would take millions of times the amount of energy we have at our disposal. Our highest powered particle accelerators are too feebly underpowered to even find gravitons, let alone the strings that would prove string theory correct. Despite these problems with directly proving string theory, physicists like Brian Greene and Lisa Randal (classmates from Stuyvesant) continue to seek out circumstantial evidence like supersymmetry (each particle has a sparticle (superparticle)), new dimensions and gravitons or rather the absence of gravitons as they escape into different dimensions. There are of course physicists who warn that because string theory is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Obstructive Sleep Apnea And Effects On Blood Pressure Essay Continuous Positive Airway Pressure in Those with Obstructive Sleep Apnea and the Effects on Blood Pressure One issue faced daily in primary care is the incidence of hypertension. This disease impacts approximately 25% of the adult population in the world. Risk factors for hypertension include genetics, poor diet, obesity, sedentary lifestyle, and other disease processes. In addition, obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) has been recognized as an additional risk factor in the development of hypertension according to European and US guidelines (Pepin et al, 2014). According to Ohio State physicians Magalang and Valentine, (2015), there are possibly ten million people who have resistant hypertension, and most of those have OSA. In contrast, the National Sleep Foundation explains that sleep apnea affects more than 18 million people (Sleepapnea.org, n.d.). These numbers are staggering. A diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea increases a patient s chances of developing hypertension. With this information in mind, it is prudent to recognize the correlation between treating obstructive sleep apnea with CPAP therapy and the benefits of this therapy in regards to blood pressure. Keeping in mind that many patients with sleep apnea have hypertension, questions remain regarding treatment options. Today, many patients use more than two medications in order to decrease their blood pressures; unfortunately, this does not always work (Magalang Valentine, 2015). If it is our duty as ... • 12. Investigating The Victimization Of Persons With Mental... Abstract This paper explores two published articles that investigate the victimization of persons with Mental Retardation (MR). Specifically, this paper examined the differences between MR and mental illness, the risk of victimization and the nature of victimization for persons with MR, factors contributing to the risk of victimization for persons with MR, and perpetrators of victimization against persons with MR. Studies have found several influences contributing to the risk of victimization for persons with MR including victim related factors, relationship factors and environmental factors. Together, these findings suggest that persons with MR are at a higher risk of being victimized. The Effects of Victimization on Persons with Mental Retardation Mental Retardation (MR) is a developmental disability along with autism, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and learning disabilities (Petersilia, 2001). Specifically, MR is defined as significant limitations in intellectual functioning and adaptive skills in two or more areas: self care, social skills, home living and other fundamental issues for life functioning (Nettlebeck Wilson, 2002; Petersilia, 2001). Such limitations should originate before age 18 and are commonly presented at birth. An IQ level below 70 is also used as a criterion for measuring intellectual functioning in individuals with MR (Nettlebeck Wilson, 2002; Petersilia, 2001). The Terror Known as Robespierre Robespierre was one of the most significant men throughout the period of the French Revolution; he had such an immense amount of power that he was able to have rivals of the revolution put to death. Robespierre s power came from his joining of the Committee of Public Safety (CSP), whose original job was to deal with diplomacy and warfare with foreign enemies; though under Robespierre s power, the CSP became a part of the government which dealt with internal policing, which got in the way of the jurisdiction of the Committee of General Security (CSG). The job of the CSG was to remove and discipline enemies of the revolution, though they ended up competing with the CSP for power over this matter. With this influence from his place in the CSP, he climbed a social ladder to becoming both extremely influential as well as difficult to remove from control. Despite the fact that Robespierre held a great deal of power, his authority eventually declined and led to his death: while working within the CSP, he ordered countless individuals to be guillotined whether or not people on the outside of the conflict viewed them as deserving of such punishment: in one instance, he put to death several people that he viewed as anti revolutionary: Georges Jacques Danton, Lucie Simplice Desmoulins, Jean François Delacroix, and Pierre Philippeaux. The affects of the Sarbanes Oxley Act on Public Companies and the Market Shareen Sidhu University of Maryland University College The Affects of the Sarbanes Oxley Act on Public Companies and the Market The Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002 was implemented and designed to protect the interests of the investing public and the mission is to set and enforce practice standards for a new class of firms registered to audit publicly held companies (Verschoor, 2012). During the early 2000 s, the world saw an alarming number of accounting scandals take place resulting in many corporations going bankrupt. Some of the major companies involved in these scandals were from Enron, WorldCom, and one of the top five accounting and auditing firms, Arthur Andersen. These companies were dishonest with their financial statements, assuring the public the company was very successful, when in reality they were not. This became a problem because if the public believes a company is doing well, they are more likely to invest in it. That is to say, once these companies were exposed, it caused a number of companies going bankrupt and a major mistrust between the public and the capital market. Consequently, the federal government quickly took action and enacted the Sarbanes Oxley act of 2002, also known as SOX, which was created by the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB), and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Given the perimeters of this essay I will confine the discussion of the box to Art Therapy, as it is made, appointed or constructed in the art therapy context; and instead of clinical studies I will be using art as examples. Boxes appear in all cultures and times, their uses range from hiding, to safe keeping; from precious to the mundane, The coffin to the bread box. Boxes have become modern man s ways of organising their office, house, garage, and under the bed secrets. You can shop at stores dedicated entirely to boxes of all shapes and sizes; The Container Store in the USA, is a great example of this, an almost obsessive need the Western modern man has to contain things. Might there be some deeper unmet needs being communicated through this desire to contain the physical things in ones life? True a way of organising, but could it also be a way of finding physical structure and space just by putting on a lid and sliding it into a slot under a bed, or into a closet? The ability to controls one s own chaos without too much work or introspection. Could it be possible that western people find organising and putting things into containers de stressing because it gives the feeling of having ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. Terrorist Attacks On The World Trade Center There is little doubt that the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York on September 11 drastically changed America s sense of security in recent years. Yet the country is facing another kind of threat, one that is not entirely different than the dangers of terrorism at a global scale: domestic terrorism. At its core, domestic terrorism differs from any other type of terrorism in the sense that those who carry it out are citizens or permanent residents of a given country and who inflict violence and intimidation against their fellow citizens or permanent residents in the pursuit of political aims (Sharpe, 2000, p. 606). In that sense, domestic terrorism may also be called homegrown terrorism. Perhaps the best, and most gruesome, example that shows the difference between domestic terrorism and other types of terrorism is the bombing of the World Trade Center. In the September 11 attacks, the perpetrators were Islamist jihadists who belong to al Qaeda, a Sunni Islamist organization that America eventually categorized as a network of terrorist groups. Most of the direct perpetrators themselves were from Saudi Arabia while the rest were from Egypt, Lebanon, and the United Arab Emirates (Bell, Clay, Murdie Piazza, 2014, p. 607). In other words, they were non citizens of America. In the aftermath of the attacks, authorities revealed that most of the victims were American citizens and permanent residents. • 29. The Democratic And The Republican Parties Dominate... Ramesha Wembley Government 110 Political Ideology The Democratic and the Republican parties dominate American politics. They are both different in their philosophies and ideals. Political parties win elections, operate the government, and determine public policy. They compete with each other for support of the voters over issues that have to do with the economy, national security and individual liberties. Political parties determine and make the important choices that affect our everyday lives. Democratic is liberal and left leaning, the symbol is a donkey and the representing color is blue. Republican is conservative and right leaning, the symbol is an elephant and the representing color is red. The three political topics that stick out to me the most are abortion, gun control, and gay rights/marriage. The Democratic Party was founded on March 3rd, 1828. The founders of liberal democrats are Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. They became recognized in the mid nineteenth century. Some popular current democrats would be President Barack Hussein Obama, former senator and secretary of state Hillary Clinton, and former president Bill Clinton. The word is a Greek origin meaning ruled by the people. Slave activists founded Republicans on March 4th, 1854. Some popular republicans today are Ted Cruz (senator), Orrin Grant Hatch, and John Boehner speaker of the house of reps. The word Republican originates from the middle French meaning belonging to a republic. One ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ken Burns and Lynn Novick (2011) delve into the topic of alcohol in America in their documentary Prohibition, and this paper will discuss the events before, during, and after the prohibition of alcohol in the United States. This paper will also relate the prohibition of alcohol to the current drug policies of cocaine in the United States. Alcohol and cocaine were both prohibited in the United States in the early 1900 s. • 32. Pros And Cons Of Spirit Family Support Shelter DISCUSSION A. Does Spirit Family Support Shelter constitute as a dwelling under the Fair Housing Act (FHA)? The first issue is whether Spirit Family Support Shelter qualifies as a dwelling under the Fair Housing Act. Under the FHA, a dwelling is any building, structure, or portion thereof, for purposes of occupancy, as a residence by one or more families, and any vacant land offered for sale or lease for the construction, or location of any such building, structure, or portion thereof. Fair Housing Act of 1968, § 807(a), 42 U.S.C.A. § 3602(b). • 34. The Science of Radiocarbon Dating Essay The Science of Radiocarbon Dating When we think of history, we think of important people, places, cultures, events, and much more. The backbone of history rests on its chronology. It gives us the when of basic analysis. It gives us a frame of reference, the order of things. Before having an absolute way of determining dates, history was based in guesses and assumptions. Many attempts were made to organize the dates of the past. Some of these attempts were made by geologist. Geologist used the idea of stratigraphic succession (Renfrew, 1973) which is based on the principle that when successive layers or strata are observed in position, the underlying ones are the earliest. While it created controversy, due to some people s attachments to the old ways of dating and doubts in this revolutionary method, it proved to be the closest method to have an accurate chronology of history. In 1955, to prove the accuracy or radiocarbon, Libby published a graph that showed the comparison of the results of radiocarbon dating of specimens from Egypt. These specimens had already an absolute known date. The graph proved the accuracy of Libby s radiocarbon dating. Figure 1 (Renfrew, 1973) Libby developed the method of radiocarbon dating though his observation of how cosmic rays create radiocarbon. From outer space cosmic rays infiltrate earth s atmosphere. In the upper atmosphere, these rays hit nitrogen and oxygen atoms in the air. (Renfrew, 1973). When the neutrons of these high energy particles (mostly protons) hit nitrogen atoms, Carbon 14 (C 14) is created. The nitrogen atom (atomic number 7) has an atomic mass of 14 (with 7 protons and 7 neutrons). When the nucleus of the nitrogen is hit by the cosmic ray s neutrons, the atomic number of the atom decreases by one. The make up of its atomic mass changes, a proton is emitted and the neutrons are increased by one; therefore, the atomic mass number stays the same. Because the atomic number has changed, a new element, carbon 14, with atomic number 6, has an atomic mass of 14 (with 6 protons and 8 neutrons). (Bowman, 1990) The reaction is 14N + n = 14c + p (where n is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The topic of protests has made the rounds among news stories. Hearing about protests and rallies is not out of the norm. The news includes numerous stories about organized protests and the violence that can occur as a result of them. After viewing Pepsi s Kendall Jenner commercial, it is obvious that Pepsi drew its inspiration from these events. The most important moment in the commercial is when Jenner hands a Pepsi to a police officer; He smiles and the crowd cheers. This moment is also the most controversial scene of the entire commercial. Many people believe that the commercial is in bad taste and that it makes light of a serious situation. According to Wired, The message is clear: All those women s marches, Black Lives Matter protests, and demonstrations outside Trump Tower would be much more effervescent and effective! if someone had just brought some soda (Watercutter). Pepsi appeals to viewers via logos through logical fallacies. Specifically, they are using emotion, authority, and popularity to sell their soda. Pepsi appeals to emotion by making a protest a focal point of the commercial. Typically, anger and gladness drive protestors. The point of protesting is to voice an opinion and promote change. Pain is alleviated as the conformist follows the path that has been carved for him rather than designing one of his own. However, the relief is temporary as the benefiter turns into a prisoner of standards and can no longer live as he pleases. Transcendentalism was a movement that celebrated the self and emphasized living life rather than structuring it. The retail industry employed 1.2 million people in the period of 2008 to 2009 and is still continuing to grow.
