Aristotle On The Mind Vs Intellect
In, Aristotle s On The Soul, which was translated by Hippocrates G. Apostle, Aristotle talks about the
relationship between intellect and the body. He explains how our soul has five faculties:
nutritive/vegetative, sensing, desiring, locomotion, and intellect. Aristotle discusses how intellect is
separate from the rest of our soul and/or body, specifically in book 3, chapters 4 and 5. He argues that
our senses are affected or receive forms in themselves. Intellect exists without being influenced or
blended by the forms themselves. If intellect did blend with the forms themselves, then intellect would
acquire traits, but intellect does not have any traits. Intellect allows us to think of an object without the
object itself, whereas our senses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Earlier in the book, Aristotle argued that matter was potential. Aristotle states, For, as we have already
stated, the term substance has three meanings, i.e., form, matter and the composite of these two; and of
these three, matter is potentiality, but form is actuality (Apostle, 414a 14). For, example, clay can be
considered potential, but clay can be sculpted into an object, like a bowl and it becomes actual. If the
potential is matter, then the passive intellect would have to have form, like the clay. However,
Aristotle does not believe that the potential intellect as a form. If the intellect does not have a form,
then what attaches it to us? What stops the intellect from vanishing? As shown, Aristotle again has
contradicted himself. It seems like the intellect contradicts a lot of the arguments that Aristotle first
gives, which makes his arguments unclear. And it also makes it so that there are many unanswered
questions about the

Wrong With Deforestation
We are consuming our forests three times faster than they are being reproduced. Some of the richest
timber lands of this continent have already been destroyed, and not replaced, and other vast areas are
on verge of destruction. Theodore Roosevelt. This quote by president Theodore Roosevelt goes to
show that deforestation has been a problem for many years, and that there should be an end put to it.
All the beautiful land is being destroyed at a fast rate with nobody replacing the land, and it is only
progressing quicker and quicker. The president was right about this problem with nature, and it should
be fixed once and for all.
There are many interesting facts and knowledge concerning deforestation which will add to one s
already obtained knowledge. This is going to show the reader everything wrong with deforestation and
why it should be stopped for the better of all life. These facts were derived from many websites that

deforestation being bad rather than lies and opinions which is just the easy way out of what is really

Critically evaluate the extent the doctrine of the separation of powers underpin the Basic Law.
INTRODUCTION
According to Wesley Smith, The doctrine of separation of powers is a general technique for limiting
the ability of government officials to wield excessive powers to the detriment of citizens rights. The
three types of power (the legislative, executive and judicial) should be distributed amongst three
distinct branches of government; no branch should exercise more than one variety of function, and no
person should belong to more than one branch. Each branch is balanced by the others, some kind of
parity is established ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The judicial system previously practised shall be maintained except for the establishment of the Court
of Final Appeal (CFA) (Article 81). CFA has final adjudicating power and may invite judges from
other common law jurisdictions to sit on it (Article 82). Courts may refer to precedents of other
common law jurisdictions (Article 84).
B. Checks Balances
1. Power of Judicial Review
Common law system is preserved (Article 8). Naturally, Courts enjoy power of judicial review. Hong
Kong residents have rights to review executive acts in the courts (Article 35). Courts can interpret
provisions of the Basic Law within the limits of its autonomy (Article 158).
Hong Kong Courts recognized the doctrine of separation of powers underpin the Basic Law and have
safeguarded it in numerous cases[2]. They have jurisdiction to check whether the executive or
legislature are working within the boundaries of the Basic Law. For example, in Leung Kwok Hung v
President of Legislative Council of HKSAR[3], CFA affirmed a procedural rule of LegCo which
prevent private members from introducing amendment with a charging nature to the bills and ruled
that it does not contravene the Basic Law.
However, regards have to be given to the presence of a higher power the NPCSC, which has the
ultimate authority for interpretation of the Basic Law (Article 158).
2. Appointment Dismissal of Judicial Officers
Judges and judicial officers are appointed/ removed by the

Mental Illnesses In The Vietnam War
The human psyche is something that no one can fully understand. Mental diseases and disorders can t
be cured, but only reduced or buried. Dennis Miller joined the military to challenge himself and to see
what war is like. When he was in the TET offensive he lost men when the enemies shot down their
huey. He shows signs of mental scars after the Vietnam War. We need to show gratitude and respect to
all veterans of war. When remembering Vietnam veterans, it is important to consider what they had to
experience, the lasting effects of war, and the losses they had to endure. The Vietnam war leaves
unforgiving and tenacious effects for all sides. Dennis Miller joined the Vietnam War to test himself

Soldiers who protected us will always be remembered and honored for their service. Miller himself
participated in a war with a death toll of near two million people. He saw and made contact with a
dead body, his best friend died, and some of his platoon soldiers died. Miller witnessed death take its
toll on others in many situations. And when Kent State, and the National Guard fired on those troops,
they said, Holy shit! I don t want to get shot at. I just want to make an ass of myself. And I think Kent
State was the greatest thing that happened to protest movement, because it almost stopped after that.
Sure, seven people died. Well, I can name a lot of people that died (Miller). Miller s tone when stating
that seven people died like it was nothing and saying that he can name a lot of people that died shows
that he himself knows many soldiers who died in battle. To memorialize those who have served in the
Vietnam War we have to understand the pain and suffering they went through, the pain that will never
go away, and the lives that were lost. The soldiers went to foreign land and risked their lives everyday.
Those who came back from war still continue to suffer in the claws of war. They suffer from loss of
friends and loved

only further affect their immunity. When dealing with HIV, the cell mediated immunity is affected.
Components of this immunity, such as T cells and phagocytes that ward off foreign particles that enter

allows the body to be easily attacked by any foreign particle. Being immuno depressed by this virus,

The state of Texas is globally associated with images of the wild west and horseback riding cowboys

Corrupt Leaders In George Orwell s Animal Farm
Animal Farm, by George Orwell, is an allegory about the 1902 Russian Revolution that led to the
overthrowing of a corrupt leader, Czar Nicholas II. In the book Animal Farm, Mr. Jones isn t treating
his animals fairly. In 1902, Czar Nicholas II wasn t treating his people equally either. The novel and
the real event can be tied together in many ways, one including having corrupt leaders affecting
society. Corrupt leaders have an effect on society because they let the power get to their heads by not
being equal, thinking they are above everyone else, and by treating their people poorly. In 1917, the
Russian Revolution started, but in 1902 Russia started falling. Czar Nicholas was in charge at the time
and he started to treat his people badly. Czar Nicholas would indulge himself while his people were
starving. The people of Russia overthrew Nicholas and the provisional government. Stalin took over
as the dictator and wasn t any better than Nicholas. In Animal Farm, Mr. Jones was mistreating his
animals much like Czar Nicholas was mistreating his people. The animals overthrew Jones and three

Labeling And The Rights Of All Students
Labeling and the rights of all students to access education Rights baseds and needs based Selecting a
school for your child can be based on various reasons depending on what you are looking for whether
it is scholarships they offer, location even public perception (Hobsons, 2015). Ideally every parent
wants the utter most best for their child. Unfortunately some parents get lost and focus mainly towards
a specific achievement or offer which may not always be within the best interest of the child. For
example Bryson goes to South High School as they supply the best football opportunities. While he is
doing well in physical education in class work is suffering, falling behind as they don t offer Bryson
the one on one attention he needs to succeed. Labeling is a process of creating descriptors to identify
persons who differ from the norm (White, 2014). Labeling is required to be included in special
education (Government, 2005). Under current law, to receive special education services, a child must
be identified as having a disability and, in most cases, must be further classified into one of that state s
categories, such as mental retardation or learning disabilities (Heward, 2010). Some parents struggle
with the idea of placing their beloved child in a special school unwilling to accept the Label (Heward,
2010). This Label can stop parents from allowing their child to receive the best possible treatment in
developing their Childs knowledge and physical/personal

Merriam Webster defines an abstraction as a general idea or quality rather than an actual person.
Humans are immensely complex creatures who cannot be confined to stereotypes, classifications or
labels. Each person is equipped with their own set of traits, talents and capabilities that make them
who they are. Viewing a person as simply an abstraction restricts them to a category stating who and
what they are allowed to be effectively taking away the uniqueness each and every person has a right

Question 1:
Digoxin toxicity. Digoxin has a narrow therapeutic index and chronic toxicity is more likely in the
elderly and those with renal impairment. Since Mr Buchanan is 75 years old, he may already have
some form of renal impairment and therefore is at a higher risk of developing toxic serums levels if

fluid intake and output through a Fluid Balance Chart (FBC) and/or daily weighs. This is important in
Mr Buchanan s case as Digoxin is renally excreted and if his ability to excrete fluid decreases, digoxin
levels may build up and increase (Nickson, 2014) Consider a fluid restriction to prevent possible fluid
overloading due to his decreased renal function (Vera, 2011). Perform a urinalysis when possible to
find levels of Specific Gravity (how concentrated the urine is), pH, Protein, Blood, Nitrites,
Leukocytes, Ketones, Glucose and Bilirubin. The results of this test can help identify any possible
impairment in renal function and identify the presence of an infection (Vera, 2011).

Obstacles In The Glass Castle
Think back to your own childhood. Could you imagine being a child, and not having a care in the
world, but then, as quick as the snap of a finger, that all changes because of a thoughtless mistake
made by your parents? In The Glass Castle it is revealed that as Jeannette grew up, she endured
hardships inflicted upon her by her own parents. However, if Jeannette had not gone through these
things, she never would have gained the characteristics that she values present day. Although Jeannette
Walls faced hardships and endured suffering during her childhood, these obstacles formed her into a
self reliant woman who proves that just because you do not have as much money as other families,
you can still achieve success in your life.
Throughout her life, starting from childhood, Jeannette Walls suffered through multiple hardships that
could lead her away from a successful adult life. Since she was young, her parents put her through
things that a child should never be exposed to, which could lead her to make these same mistakes as
she grew older. For example, her father was an alcoholic, and from this many problems sprouted.
Furthermore, her mother never wanted to be tied down, and loathed the idea of family life, as she did
not want the responsibility of raising a family. Rose Mary was depicted as self centered in the novel,
and did not think of her children, as she only thought of her own needs. This can be shown when she
keeps the diamond ring her children found for herself.

Swamplandia Analysis
This excerpt of Swamplandia, a novel by Karen Russell focuses on Hilola Bigtree, a performer who
races alligators as she is watched by an audience and her family. It is in the point of view of the
performer s daughter, who has seen her mother perform before and is newly captivated each time.
Since it is in her point of view, she is able to create an atmosphere where she can elevate her mother as
an exquisite being. She has an admiration for her mother, both as a performer and in general, that is
extremely clear. The tense narrative in the excerpt contributes to Hilola s portrayal as indestructible.
Russell portrays the narrator s exaltation of her mother through the combination of generated and real
tension by use of dark imagery and the contrast between her and the audience through sublime diction.
Russell shows the child s admiration for her mother by elevating her in comparison to the audience
and showing her in an ethereal point of view with heavenly diction and imagery. The excerpt opens
with the narrator describing her mother as perform[ing] in starlight (1). The immediate association of
Hilola and the stars portrays her as larger than life and otherworldly. This shows how the narrator
believes her mother is a divine being. She describes that her mother s shoulder blades [are] pinched
back like wings before she [dives] ( 33 34). This imagery paints the portrait of her mother as an
angelic creature who is above the audience that is watching her. The narrator s depiction of the tourists
is opposite than that of her mother. She recounts the tourists slapping at ubiquitous mosquitos (26) and
unsticking their khaki shorts and their printed department store skirts from their sweating thighs (27
28). She portrays them as mere flesh in the sense that they are grimy and adj. The fact that she
describes all the audience members as being dressed in a stereotypical tourist outfit shows how she
believes that they are all the same, and there is no variation or uniqueness to any of them. In terms of
their actions, she relays that they shushed and crushed against and cursed at one another. (28). This
masculine repetition and repeated use of conjunctions as a polysyndeton even further highlights the

Collection of Information for Systems Analysis Essay examples
A critical part for systems analysis is the collection of information. From the very beginning, analyst
need to understand the information systems that are currently in use. Besides, analyst has to find out
expectations of users about how they prefer to improve the current systems and organizational
operations with the new or replacement information systems. Last but not least, analyst will need to

1.2 Advantage and Disadvantage of face to face interview
According to Holbrook, Green and Krosnick (2003, p.79), face to face interview is known for its high
quality. Kendall and Kendall (2006, p.110) argue that an a question and answer format is used for
information gathering interview which is a directed conversation with a specific purpose. In fact if we
want to understand why we need to choose interview as a select technique, we need to find out what
we can get from the interview. One thing that we can get from the interview is the opinions of the
interviewee and his or her feelings about the system, organizational and personal goals, and informal
procedures for interacting with information technologies. The truth is that opinions maybe more
important and more revealing than facts. An example can be given as asking the owner of a traditional

Evaluation Project Background Of Physical Education Essay
Evaluation Project Background
While the term physical literacy is gaining attention in the US as a goal for physical education (PE),
physical literacy (PL) has been used within physical education in other countries such as Europe,
Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. The internationally accepted definition of PL is the motivation,
confidence, physical competence, knowledge and understanding to value and take responsibility for
engagement in physical activities for life (Whitehead, 2013). The conception of physical literacy in the
US derives from the need to address increasing rates of obesity in youth. Physical education
curriculum provides an indispensable opportunity in the establishment of physical literacy, however
the aim of PL is to move beyond specific proficiency in specific activities to inclusiveness of all

In 2014, Society of Health and Physical Education (SHAPE) America released the National Standards
Grade Level Outcomes for K 12 Physical Education. One of the key changes to this third iteration of
the national standards was the incorporation of the term physical literacy based on the founding work
of Margret Whitehead (2001, 2007, and 2010). Based on Whitehead s model, SHAPE America
identified the following elements for developing PL in PE programs in the US (adapted from Roetert
MacDonald, 2015):
1. A positive attitude towards physical activity through having

Indian Slavery In New France
Between the 17th and 18th centuries, colonists of New France took opposing stances towards their
Native American acquaintances. Through cultural understanding, gift giving, and Indian style
diplomacy the French negotiated the most expansive network of Native alliances in colonial North
America. At the same time, they also developed an extensive system of Indian slavery that
transformed thousands of Indian men, women, and children into objects of colonial commerce in
French settlements. Although French bureaucrats initially rejected captive exchange as a legitimate
token of friendship, many western traders embraced the practice as a means of strengthening trade
relations and securing valuable labor. Indian captives became more valuable as bargaining ... Show

Even before their legal recognition as chattel, these slaves worked in many different capacities,
contributing substantially to the wealth of slaveowners and to the productivity of the colony in
general. The Indian slavery in New France in the early 18th century relied on the fluidity and moral
ambiguity of the nature of slaves themselves. Slaves were often viewed as adopted members of a
group, despite their tormented state. By 1709, Indian Slavery was recognized and legalized in New
France as free labor helped satisfy the needs of the traders and government officials there amidst
economic downturn. Because the slave trade rewarded brutality with valuable goods, it encouraged the
colony s allies to choose warfare over peace. As slavery became legalized, slaves became
commodities rather than symbols of alliance, and thus the brutality surrounding them waned. Despite
the evolution of Indian Slaves status in New France, French government and officials took part in the
inhumane treatment of ritually brutalized men women and children in the first decade of the 18th

18th And 21st Amendment Essay
Our Constitution was written to be the backbone of our government but with the task it s given not
everything can be written word for word but must be interpreted. Its there to establish our national
government and fundamental laws and guaranteed certain basic rights for its citizens. With ideas such
as amendments and the Elastic Clause our Constitution can cover all bases and be able to adapt to the
situations at hand.
Change comes whether we like it or not and amendments are set in place to govern what the founding
fathers had not thought was an issue at the time our Constitution was written. Amendments are the
process of formally altering or adding to a document. The Constitution restricts what our government
is able to do but sometimes new rights and laws need to be made. This allows for our Constitution to
fill our needs in the present time as new problems arise. Laws and rules in the amendments are made
to form to the citizens for our benefit. If an amendment is proposed it would go to the House of
Representatives and the Senate who would vote to add it or not. If they believed it would improve our
Constitution then it would be added. Sometimes though they are repealed because they no longer

The 18th amendment was the prohibition of alcohol which was then repealed by the 21st amendment.
They prohibited it in the States because they believed it would benefit the people s health and work

religious groups. It didn t accomplish what they had hoped for, it had grown very unpopular, criminals
were making lots of money smuggling it and people were brewing at home with unsafe conditions.
Because of the negative effects it had on the states it was repealed to accommodate the general
population. It was set in place to improve our country but didn t accomplish it so it was

O Pioneers By Willa Cather
O Pioneers by Willa Cather follows a group of frontiersmen trying to survive in the harsh conditions
of the untamed west. The story follows the Bergsons, but more descriptively, the main character, a girl
named Alexandra Bergson. Throughout the story, Alexandra grows up to her full potential and we are
able to see her character just as rich and as mesmerizing as Willa hoped to achieve. This is the
character that Willa decides to revolve her story around and makes the reader fully understand who the
novel is truly about. Using this assumption, readers can conclude that O Pioneers derives from Willa s
real life experiences especially when dealing with her love life.
At the very beginning of the novel, Alexandra was given a huge responsibility. With her father passing
away it was up to her to inherit the farm and make it thrive. She was young, but very determined and
in that introspect, she was able to make the farm a huge success. For the time period, this achievement
was very difficult to obtain especially for a woman. This to me, could accurately relate to her own
adolescence. In a letter she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

she has feelings for him and that she wants to marry him. However when she talks to Oscar and Lou
said marriage, they are not pleased about this and insist that she s making us all look ridiculous (pg
64). In the time period, homosexuality wasn t as widely accepted as it is today and she might have also
thought that she was foolish for feeling that way. At the time she might have wanted to be in a
relationship but refused because of her inner feelings stopping her. However at the end she knows Carl
is the one she loves and says, I should never feel free again. But I do, here. this referring to the grief

Activation of Protein Kinases by Means of Stochastic...
Short overview The current technology is based on protein kinase activation by means of stochastic
resonance mediated through pulsed electrical fields of very low signal strength. The mode of action
reveals how even small pulsed electrical fields can have a major influence on cellular function and
physiological consequences. It is well known that biological sensory systems transform analog
quantities such us pressure, temperature, electric fields (E fields) etc. into trains of information. All the
features of systems exhibiting stochastic resonance were found to be present in cell signaling systems
which are intrinsically noisy, nonlinear threshold systems. We observed the effects of pulsed electrical
fields of intensity near that of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We visualize the mechanism as that of a working Brownian ratchet where transitions into a different
activated state can be favored. We observed that changing frequencies of E fields causes enhanced
activation from 2 to 100 Hz and that higher frequencies cause reduced activation. Thus the system
fulfills the requirements of a stochastic resonance system with a ∩ shaped curve. Introduction:
Stochastic resonance (SR) occurs in a system with a threshold or barrier such as in a protein when a
correct input of information transfer (changes in specific electrical fields effecting charged particles
and signal to noise ratio) is maximized in the presence of a specific non zero level of stochastic input
noise (such as randomly fluctuating electrical fields) thereby lowering the response threshold. The
system will then resonate at a particular noise level. Thus, stochastic resonance is a term which
describes that one time scale is established by the period of the external stimulus and the other by the
position to position switching rate induced by the stochastic process or noise. By this effect a
synchronization of a nonlinear system to a weak periodic signal can be enhanced by the presence of
random fluctuations. A weak periodic signal is one which cannot by itself produce switchin g between
positions in protein subunits. In such systems the essence of the signal enhancing effect of SR can be
understood in following way: In the absence of stimuli there are few and random

Mexican American Relations Of The Past And The Present Essay
After thinking well about our class and the sociological symbols of power what first comes to my
mind is the border. Seemingly enough I first had an idea to do my paper on the narcotics trafficking
but I stumbled across a few good articles that support my thesis to my paper. In my paper my goal of
is to address Mexican American relations of the past and the present, and to project what type of
relations must exist between these two countries in order to address key issues that are symbolic
power indicators such as racism and poverty, who benefits, who wins, who rules when dealing with a
major local sociological issue of treating illegal immigrants.
A little background on the history, in the early 1990 s immigrants suffered poor economic situations in
the United States. The blame had to be put somewhere so Governor Pete Wilson of California decided
to vocally address this issue with his proposed Proposition 187 in 1994. At this time California was
facing economic recession and felt that the massive immigration of illegal immigrants from Mexico
was the primary reason for residents economic struggles. Furthermore Proposition 187, promoted as
the Save Our State initiative, called for a dismissal of the availability of public service such as
education and health care to illegal immigrants. It also aided in their deportation, as people such as
nurses and teachers would be required to report suspected illegal immigrants to authorities. This
initiative was able to pass even

Compare And Contrast Functionalist And Stylistics
Two different approaches in Stylistics: Formalist Vs Functionalist
Stylistics as a particular way of approaching the meaning that a society produces has many tools to
analyze writer s or author s style of their works. There are actually several different approaches toward
stylistics including formalist, mentalist, textlinguistic/functionalist, pragmatic, radical and empirical,
however this paper will only focus on comparing and contrasting two different approaches, those are
Formalist and Functionalist.
Comparing Formalist and Functionalist
Generally both of them are interested in finding the meaning of the text, but formalists look at the text
semantically, while functionalists concern with the text pragmatically.

Firth and M.A.K Halliday. Malinowski, 1923 (cited in Burke, 2014) works on the importance of
situational context. Functionalists also look at context as important thing in constructing meaning.
Context will influence how we interpret a text. However, context is put in the highest level of
interpreting meaning. And then, Firth with his work Personality in language and society (1950).
Halliday (1994) (cited in Burke, 2014) in his work An Introduction to Functional Grammar proposed
what we called as metafunctions . Halliday believed that in a particular language there must be
tripartite functions, namely Ideational, Interpersonal and Textual. Ideational or well known as
experiential meaning which has a representational function is used to encode any idea or experience of
the world; it conveys a picture of reality. Interpersonal function means we use it to encode interaction
to see the social relationships. And the last is Textual function of language is used to organize our
experiential, logical and interpersonal meanings into a linear and coherent whole and it provides the
formal properties of language. (Halliday, 2014). All these functions work simultaneously and they
have relation one another. However, it still can be analyzed

Silence Of The Lambs Suspense
Silence or Suspense
Suspense is a state or condition of mental uncertainty or excitement, as in waiting a decision or
outcome. makes the viewers feel this way, because of the different tactics used to make the movie
suspenseful. The three main ways an editor can make a movie suspenseful is by using score, camera
shots, and setting. The Silence of the Lambs is a movie that has scenes showing different camera
angles, that make the viewers sit on the edge of their seats.
The score used in The Silence of the Lambs was calming , loud, and creepy music. The calming music
was only played when Hannibal was in the scene. Hannibal was a killer the FBI caught and he is kept
in a special asylum. We the viewers, know that Hannibal s heart rate never rises whenever he kills, so
when Hannibal is murdering someone, calming music is being played. Agent Starling is a rookie
trying to get her Licenses for Behavioral Science. Starling is put on the case of catching Buffalo Bill.
Starling uses Hannibal to get information about how to catch Bill. Anytime Starling is talking to

his office room, where he dresses up, and where he keeps his victims. This shot gives the viewers a
good idea of where Bill does all his work. Another camera shot is the Point of View shot. We see this
shot several times through Bill s night vision goggles. An example is when Starling is in Bill s

Theme Of Communication In Michael Ondaatje s In The Skin...
In Michael Ondaatje s novel, In the Skin of a Lion, there is a severe shift in tone, character morality,
and emotion when comparing the beginning to the end. After completing the novel and working to
make sense of it, I began to question what the source of all this change was and the reasoning behind
it. Through analysis, I came to the conclusion that many of the prominent characters featured in this
novel are unable to engage in what is called competent communication. To be a competent
communicator, an individual must adapt to different social settings in order for their intended message
to be both appropriate and effective for their intended audience. In Ondaatje s novel, however, most
characters lack this skill, seeing things only from their point of view, failing to ever consider others
perspectives. This results in several conflicts being left without a solution and creates a cause and
effect chain of events leading to chaos. In addition to communication incompetence, I found there to
be various other barriers in communication that include, physical, linguistic, and psychological.
Throughout this paper I will be explaining and providing evidence for why these various
communication barriers are responsible for the eventual character breakdown and excessive entropic
nature in In the Skin of a Lion. Physical barriers are those that communicate to others outside of a
certain group to stay out. Some of these barriers are obvious such as barricades, territories, doors,

According to John Manfreda of Oilprice.com, even though fracking had always been around, the first
person to patent it was Col. Edward A.L. Roberts. Roberts had labeled the method The Exploding
Torpedo , the process involved placing a torpedo filled with powder into a well near an oil spot, then
explode the torpedo and immediately fill the whole with water. From what John Manfreda has
concluded later on Edward A. L. Roberts had expanded this method into creating Roberts Petroleum
Torpedo Company. This early type of fracking was much different than our modern day hydraulic
fracking. Manfreda explains how the first hydraulic fracking began in the 1930 s. Instead of using
nitroglycerine like Col. Roberts had done this new and improved version used acid. It wasn t until the
1990s that a man named George P. Mitchell discovered the idea of combining fracking with horizontal
drilling, thus making up our modern day knowledge of fracking. This method of oil fracking has
become so popular because for one it produces a very large amount of oil; much more than what
original drilling method produces. Another reason is the higher prices for oil in the world. Common
knowledge tells us that if a country can produce its own materials then their revenue can raise and
their liabilities can

What is the framework for each stage?
The first stage is being patient; take the time to listen to the client to build rapport and trust. From
listening to the client you can understand what the issues are and how much insight and maturity they
have, their support system, and any other information to develop a client/case manager relationship. In
the second stage we assist the client in identifying their goals and develop hope that their problems
can be solved. The third stage is when the case manager discusses with the client what they are willing
to do to meet their goals and help them choose strategies to meet them.
5. How do you calmly and effectively deal with a high stress situation?
When I feel stressed I do not let the client see it. I hold my composure and out of the clients presence I
relax my mind by walking or listening to calm music. Usually after I remove myself from the stressful
atmosphere I am able to think better and come up with ideas to help me with the stressor.
Fostering client participation and empowerment
6. How do you motivate non compliant clients?
I motivate non compliant clients by allowing them to have choices and let them lead the way the
conversation goes. Fostering collaboration and developing creative solutions in providing
consequences for them being non compliant is a good strategy. Empathize with the client and the
reasons for the non compliance. I also have experienced that

How Did Hitler Lose Power In Germany
On January 30, 1933 Hitler became the chancellor of Germany and with his newly acquired powers,
Hitler quickly and effectively altered the political system and social lives of German citizens. During
the years of Hitler s regime, many crucial changes affected the lives of Germany s diverse citizens for
the good and the bad. Despite his radical and sometimes brutal proclamations, Hitler s action was
severely limited at first but through popular appeal and through democratic process, Hitler
successfully turned democratic Germany into a dictatorship
A major misconception is that Hitler stole power from the Weimar Republic and became a total
dictator. However, that is further from the truth. In fact, Hitler became chancellor through legal means.

Information on the Distinctive White Beluga Whale
BELUGA WHALE
1) In 2009, a captive beluga whale rescued a diver during a free diving competition. 2. Belugas are
gregarious and live in social groups of 2 25 individuals (the average group size is ten). 3. Belugas are
unique among cetaceans in that the vertebrae in their necks are not fused together. This gives their
heads added manueverability.
2) The beluga whale, or Delphinapterus leucas, is the only member of its genus. It shares the
Monodont family with one other species, Monodon monoceros, otherwise known as the narwhal.
They are in the sub order Odontoceti, which contains 74 species, and the order Cetacea, which
contains 89. This in turn is part of the mammalian clade Cetartiodactyla.
3) Beluga whales are born dark gray, but within 8 years their coloration changes to a distinctive white.
The species sexually dimorphic, whith males roughly 25% larger than females. Males weigh between
1,100 and 1,600 kg and are 3.5 5.5 m in length. Females range between 700 and 1,200 kg, and
between 3 and 4.1 m in length. They are Arctic and sub Arctic, inhabiting the Arctic ocean and its
adjacent seas. Belugas are adapted to a range of habitats including open oceans, shallow coasts, ice
flats, and warm water estuaries. Some populations migrate annually while others remain in an area
year round. The global population is estimated between 60,000 and 80,000 individuals.
4) Belugas were once thought to live up to 30 years, but this is contested by a recent study that
estimated up to 70

  • 2. Aristotle On The Mind Vs Intellect In, Aristotle s On The Soul, which was translated by Hippocrates G. Apostle, Aristotle talks about the relationship between intellect and the body. He explains how our soul has five faculties: nutritive/vegetative, sensing, desiring, locomotion, and intellect. Aristotle discusses how intellect is separate from the rest of our soul and/or body, specifically in book 3, chapters 4 and 5. He argues that our senses are affected or receive forms in themselves. Intellect exists without being influenced or blended by the forms themselves. If intellect did blend with the forms themselves, then intellect would acquire traits, but intellect does not have any traits. Intellect allows us to think of an object without the object itself, whereas our senses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Earlier in the book, Aristotle argued that matter was potential. Aristotle states, For, as we have already stated, the term substance has three meanings, i.e., form, matter and the composite of these two; and of these three, matter is potentiality, but form is actuality (Apostle, 414a 14). For, example, clay can be considered potential, but clay can be sculpted into an object, like a bowl and it becomes actual. If the potential is matter, then the passive intellect would have to have form, like the clay. However, Aristotle does not believe that the potential intellect as a form. If the intellect does not have a form, then what attaches it to us? What stops the intellect from vanishing? As shown, Aristotle again has contradicted himself. It seems like the intellect contradicts a lot of the arguments that Aristotle first gives, which makes his arguments unclear. And it also makes it so that there are many unanswered questions about the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In The Glass Castle it is revealed that as Jeannette grew up, she endured hardships inflicted upon her by her own parents. However, if Jeannette had not gone through these things, she never would have gained the characteristics that she values present day. Although Jeannette Walls faced hardships and endured suffering during her childhood, these obstacles formed her into a self reliant woman who proves that just because you do not have as much money as other families, you can still achieve success in your life. Throughout her life, starting from childhood, Jeannette Walls suffered through multiple hardships that could lead her away from a successful adult life. Since she was young, her parents put her through things that a child should never be exposed to, which could lead her to make these same mistakes as she grew older. For example, her father was an alcoholic, and from this many problems sprouted. Furthermore, her mother never wanted to be tied down, and loathed the idea of family life, as she did not want the responsibility of raising a family. • 16. Swamplandia Analysis This excerpt of Swamplandia, a novel by Karen Russell focuses on Hilola Bigtree, a performer who races alligators as she is watched by an audience and her family. It is in the point of view of the performer s daughter, who has seen her mother perform before and is newly captivated each time. Since it is in her point of view, she is able to create an atmosphere where she can elevate her mother as an exquisite being. She has an admiration for her mother, both as a performer and in general, that is extremely clear. The tense narrative in the excerpt contributes to Hilola s portrayal as indestructible. Russell portrays the narrator s exaltation of her mother through the combination of generated and real tension by use of dark imagery and the contrast between her and the audience through sublime diction. Russell shows the child s admiration for her mother by elevating her in comparison to the audience and showing her in an ethereal point of view with heavenly diction and imagery. The excerpt opens with the narrator describing her mother as perform[ing] in starlight (1). The immediate association of Hilola and the stars portrays her as larger than life and otherworldly. This shows how the narrator believes her mother is a divine being. She describes that her mother s shoulder blades [are] pinched back like wings before she [dives] ( 33 34). This imagery paints the portrait of her mother as an angelic creature who is above the audience that is watching her. The narrator s depiction of the tourists is opposite than that of her mother. She recounts the tourists slapping at ubiquitous mosquitos (26) and unsticking their khaki shorts and their printed department store skirts from their sweating thighs (27 28). She portrays them as mere flesh in the sense that they are grimy and adj. The fact that she describes all the audience members as being dressed in a stereotypical tourist outfit shows how she believes that they are all the same, and there is no variation or uniqueness to any of them. In terms of their actions, she relays that they shushed and crushed against and cursed at one another. (28). From the very beginning, analyst need to understand the information systems that are currently in use. Besides, analyst has to find out expectations of users about how they prefer to improve the current systems and organizational operations with the new or replacement information systems. Last but not least, analyst will need to discover how users feel about the new or replacement information systems. There are many techniques for collecting these information. Face to face interviewing and self administered questionnaires are two main techniques among them. After that, a recommendation will be given for which techniques should be used to collect feelings of staffs . 1.2 Advantage and Disadvantage of face to face interview According to Holbrook, Green and Krosnick (2003, p.79), face to face interview is known for its high quality. Kendall and Kendall (2006, p.110) argue that an a question and answer format is used for information gathering interview which is a directed conversation with a specific purpose. In fact if we want to understand why we need to choose interview as a select technique, we need to find out what we can get from the interview. One thing that we can get from the interview is the opinions of the interviewee and his or her feelings about the system, organizational and personal goals, and informal procedures for interacting with information technologies. The truth is that opinions maybe more important and more revealing than facts. An example can be given as asking the owner of a traditional store who has recently implement an online store how many customer has complain and need to refund who deal through Web transactions each week. • 23. Evaluation Project Background Of Physical Education Essay Evaluation Project Background While the term physical literacy is gaining attention in the US as a goal for physical education (PE), physical literacy (PL) has been used within physical education in other countries such as Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. The internationally accepted definition of PL is the motivation, confidence, physical competence, knowledge and understanding to value and take responsibility for engagement in physical activities for life (Whitehead, 2013). The conception of physical literacy in the US derives from the need to address increasing rates of obesity in youth. Physical education curriculum provides an indispensable opportunity in the establishment of physical literacy, however the aim of PL is to move beyond specific proficiency in specific activities to inclusiveness of all abilities and focuses on competencies in a variety of movements and environments. In 2014, Society of Health and Physical Education (SHAPE) America released the National Standards Grade Level Outcomes for K 12 Physical Education. One of the key changes to this third iteration of the national standards was the incorporation of the term physical literacy based on the founding work of Margret Whitehead (2001, 2007, and 2010). Based on Whitehead s model, SHAPE America identified the following elements for developing PL in PE programs in the US (adapted from Roetert MacDonald, 2015): 1. At the same time, they also developed an extensive system of Indian slavery that transformed thousands of Indian men, women, and children into objects of colonial commerce in French settlements. Slaves were often viewed as adopted members of a group, despite their tormented state. By 1709, Indian Slavery was recognized and legalized in New France as free labor helped satisfy the needs of the traders and government officials there amidst economic downturn. Because the slave trade rewarded brutality with valuable goods, it encouraged the colony s allies to choose warfare over peace. As slavery became legalized, slaves became commodities rather than symbols of alliance, and thus the brutality surrounding them waned. Its there to establish our national government and fundamental laws and guaranteed certain basic rights for its citizens. With ideas such as amendments and the Elastic Clause our Constitution can cover all bases and be able to adapt to the situations at hand. Change comes whether we like it or not and amendments are set in place to govern what the founding fathers had not thought was an issue at the time our Constitution was written. Amendments are the process of formally altering or adding to a document. The Constitution restricts what our government is able to do but sometimes new rights and laws need to be made. This allows for our Constitution to fill our needs in the present time as new problems arise. Laws and rules in the amendments are made to form to the citizens for our benefit. The story follows the Bergsons, but more descriptively, the main character, a girl named Alexandra Bergson. Throughout the story, Alexandra grows up to her full potential and we are able to see her character just as rich and as mesmerizing as Willa hoped to achieve. This is the character that Willa decides to revolve her story around and makes the reader fully understand who the novel is truly about. Using this assumption, readers can conclude that O Pioneers derives from Willa s real life experiences especially when dealing with her love life. At the very beginning of the novel, Alexandra was given a huge responsibility. With her father passing away it was up to her to inherit the farm and make it thrive. • 27. Activation of Protein Kinases by Means of Stochastic... Short overview The current technology is based on protein kinase activation by means of stochastic resonance mediated through pulsed electrical fields of very low signal strength. The mode of action reveals how even small pulsed electrical fields can have a major influence on cellular function and physiological consequences. It is well known that biological sensory systems transform analog quantities such us pressure, temperature, electric fields (E fields) etc. into trains of information. All the features of systems exhibiting stochastic resonance were found to be present in cell signaling systems which are intrinsically noisy, nonlinear threshold systems. We observed the effects of pulsed electrical fields of intensity near that of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We visualize the mechanism as that of a working Brownian ratchet where transitions into a different activated state can be favored. We observed that changing frequencies of E fields causes enhanced activation from 2 to 100 Hz and that higher frequencies cause reduced activation. Thus the system fulfills the requirements of a stochastic resonance system with a ∩ shaped curve. Introduction: Stochastic resonance (SR) occurs in a system with a threshold or barrier such as in a protein when a correct input of information transfer (changes in specific electrical fields effecting charged particles and signal to noise ratio) is maximized in the presence of a specific non zero level of stochastic input noise (such as randomly fluctuating electrical fields) thereby lowering the response threshold. The system will then resonate at a particular noise level. Thus, stochastic resonance is a term which describes that one time scale is established by the period of the external stimulus and the other by the position to position switching rate induced by the stochastic process or noise. By this effect a synchronization of a nonlinear system to a weak periodic signal can be enhanced by the presence of random fluctuations. A weak periodic signal is one which cannot by itself produce switchin g between positions in protein subunits. In such systems the essence of the signal enhancing effect of SR can be understood in following way: In the absence of stimuli there are few and random ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In my paper my goal of is to address Mexican American relations of the past and the present, and to project what type of relations must exist between these two countries in order to address key issues that are symbolic power indicators such as racism and poverty, who benefits, who wins, who rules when dealing with a major local sociological issue of treating illegal immigrants. A little background on the history, in the early 1990 s immigrants suffered poor economic situations in the United States. The blame had to be put somewhere so Governor Pete Wilson of California decided to vocally address this issue with his proposed Proposition 187 in 1994. At this time California was facing economic recession and felt that the massive immigration of illegal immigrants from Mexico was the primary reason for residents economic struggles. Furthermore Proposition 187, promoted as the Save Our State initiative, called for a dismissal of the availability of public service such as education and health care to illegal immigrants. It also aided in their deportation, as people such as nurses and teachers would be required to report suspected illegal immigrants to authorities. This initiative was able to pass even ... • 31. Theme Of Communication In Michael Ondaatje s In The Skin... In Michael Ondaatje s novel, In the Skin of a Lion, there is a severe shift in tone, character morality, and emotion when comparing the beginning to the end. After completing the novel and working to make sense of it, I began to question what the source of all this change was and the reasoning behind it. Through analysis, I came to the conclusion that many of the prominent characters featured in this novel are unable to engage in what is called competent communication. To be a competent communicator, an individual must adapt to different social settings in order for their intended message to be both appropriate and effective for their intended audience. In Ondaatje s novel, however, most characters lack this skill, seeing things only from their point of view, failing to ever consider others perspectives. This results in several conflicts being left without a solution and creates a cause and effect chain of events leading to chaos. In addition to communication incompetence, I found there to be various other barriers in communication that include, physical, linguistic, and psychological. Throughout this paper I will be explaining and providing evidence for why these various communication barriers are responsible for the eventual character breakdown and excessive entropic nature in In the Skin of a Lion. Physical barriers are those that communicate to others outside of a certain group to stay out. Some of these barriers are obvious such as barricades, territories, doors, ...
