Academic Writing Styles
Academic writing
Proper academic writing should demonstrate the students understanding of the subject at hand.
(Elton, 2010) adds that because academic writing may defer from discipline to discipline,
instructors in schools have a duty to express their expectations of students writing while students on
the other hand should act on it.
Academic writing is logical
The student s work needs to have a introduction, the body and the conclusion. The introduction
gives a background to the topic and one could include interesting facts and quotations. It is
important to outline the main ideas that are in the body. The student then discusses the main points
in the body. This is done in paragraphs which should be well structured to give a coherent
argument. The conclusion is the final paragraph and must briefly summarise every idea discussed
in the body.
Other s works
Academic writing builds on what others have done on the same subject. A student therefore needs
to base his work on his own ideas as well as what others have done and thought about, however,
students should take care not to get lost in another scholar s voice but should instead incorporate
the information so as to maintain the novelty of his argument. (Hampton, 2014) states that another
scholar s work should be fully acknowledged by accurate citation.
Academic writing is objective
Academic writing is objective (A. De Montfort University Website, 2014) states that one needs to
write in the third person and avoid

Who Is Dido In The Aeneid
On the Deaths of Dido and Turnus
In Virgil s Aeneid, the hero is frequently referred to by the epithet Pius Aeneas, or in English,
Aeneas the True . While pius does not necessarily translate to pious in English, it does carry the
connotation of being good and dutiful, in whatever ways the context demands. In Aeneas case, he is
dutiful to the gods and to the quest they give him, as well as to his homeland, his people, and those
close to him in that order. In the Aeneid, there are two times in particular where his sense of duty
conflicts with his personal interest, and both of these situations end in a death. The first are the
events that lead to the death of the Carthaginian queen Dido, and the second are those that lead to
the death ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Juno, unwilling to let the Trojans settle in Latium, sets the populace against them. This populace
is lead by their princess betrothed, Prince Turnus. The war culminates in the second, less official
duel between Turnus and Aeneas. The gods intervene on both sides until Jupiter and Venus
convince Juno to surrender, right before the end of the duel. A Fury scares Turnus out of his
strength, allowing Aeneas to win the duel. It s clear that he considers Turnus plea to stretch not
your hatred further , until he sees that his defeated opponent is wearing Pallas baldric as a
trophy and kills him on the spot (XII, 338). This death tells the reader more about Aeneas
character than Dido s did. In this case, there were two dutiful options, rather than only the one
which had existed in Carthage. On one hand, Aeneas could have allowed Turnus to go home,
following the advice of his father, Anchises, who told him that the duty of the future Roman
civilization was to show mercy to the conquered, and to wage war until the haughty are brought
low. (VI, 173). On the other hand, he could avenge his close friend, Pallas, a duty of honor. The
choice was left to Aeneas the True, to decide which duty he should follow. His quest is complete:
he is in Italy, and either way, this decision will end the war. When he does choose, it s obviously
spur of the moment, allowing the reader to

Common Myths Of Substance Abuse
Furthermore, the whole world has an opinion about substance abuse either its drug addiction or
alcoholism. But unless a person has lived through a substance abuse problem it is hard to
understand the possibility and damaging effects the problem can bring about. Some of the most
common myths about substance abuse, and the real facts everyone should know instead.
One of the myths about substance abuse is substance abuse and addiction is actually the same thing.
But the fact says, though the terms abuse and addiction are often mixed up for one another, they
are not the same thing. Substance abuse generally refers to those who continue to use drugs or
alcohol even though they know that they are dangerous. An individual who has a drug addiction

Naked Egg Lab Experiment
Naked Egg Lab

Redmond High School Biology, Period 3

Introduction
The objective of the Naked Egg Lab is to soak the egg in a solution and determine if that solution is
isotonic, hypertonic, or hypotonic in relation to the egg. A solution is a mixture of two or more
substances in which the molecules of the substances are evenly distributed (Miller/Levine 2000).
The substances in a solution are solutes, the substance that is dissolved (Miller/Levine 2000), and
solvents, the substance in which the solute dissolves (Miller/Levine 2000). In this case, the egg will
be put in a salt water solution, where salt is the solute and water is the solvent. This lab is looking
for three different types of solutions; isotonic, hypertonic, and hypotonic. An isotonic solution is
when the concentration of two solutions is the same (Miller/Levine 2000). When a solution has a
higher concentration of solutes than the solution on the other side of the membrane, it is
hypertonic. Hypotonic solutions are the opposite, and have a lesser concentration of solutes than
the solution on the other side of the membrane.
Diffusion is the process by which molecules tend to move from an area where they are more
concentrated to an area ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the shell is finally gone, the egg will be placed in the salt water solution. Since only water
can move in and out of the egg, the semipermeable membrane allows for an exploration for the
concepts of diffusion and osmosis (Ryczkowski 2014). If the solution is hypotonic, the egg s mass
(quantitative data) will increase because the water will pass from an area with high concentration
(water), to an area with low concentration (egg). It is predicted that the egg will gain mass and
look larger (qualitative data) because of

Notes On Database Management Systems Essay
Enhancement in Database Management Systems By: Nipun Jain Computer science department
Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon, Haryana, India
Abstract
This paper is based on the database systems. And will result in providing the whole new information
about that. Basically, database systems are the computer applications which interacts with the user
and help in maintaining the work by making them in synchronization and in a relative format
sometimes. Database systems are also help in keeping the records of utilities and securing them for
ages. This paper will tell you whole new achievements which can be done with the help of using the
database with its correct efficiencies.
Introduction
A database is an synchronized collection of the data. It is the collection of schemes, tables,
queries, reports, views and other objects. The data is typically organized to model aspects of
reality in a way that supports processes requiring information, such as modeling the availability of
rooms in hotels in a way that supports finding a hotel with vacancies.
A database management system (DBMS) is a computer software application that interacts with the
user, other applications, and the database itself to capture and analyze data. A general purpose
DBMS is designed to allow the definition, creation, querying, update, and administration of
databases. Well known DBMSs

Research Paper On The Truman Show
The Truman Show Film Review
The Truman Show is a science fiction film, which is directed by Peter Weir in 1998. Jim Carrey,
Ed Harris, Laura Linney these great stars join this film, and their acting is fantastic to play their
roles. The movie brings the audience a new experience, persuades people to explore and
consider the world they live. Peter Weir uses a simple way cleverly to show his concept through
a person s growth to show the life in the world. This film can lead the audience to experience the
fake, the love and the reality, to predict that after a person experiences these, what his life will be?
Moreover, setting, and star s acting are also the features of the movie.
The story happens in an isolated and beautiful island beside the sea, where a man named Truman

Hall Of Justice Analysis
During the conversation between Joe and Louis in Act II, Scene 7, Joe explains that the day
before, he accidentally showed up for work at the Hall of Justice on a Sunday. Due to the fact that
the Hall is closed on Sundays, Joe arrived to discover a deserted courthouse and panicked, thinking,
The whole Hall of Justice, it s empty, it s deserted, it s gone out of business. Forever (Kushner 78).
Although it was deserted simply due to the fact that it was Sunday, the empty Hall of Justice
symbolizes freedom. Specifically, this can be seen when Joe states, It would be...heartless terror.
Yes. Terrible, and...Very great. To shed your skin, every old skin, one by one and then walk away,
unencumbered, into the morning (Kushner 78 79). This shows that an empty Hall of Justice would...

In turn, individuals would then have the freedom to determine their own beliefs regarding
justice. This can be seen when Joe states, I just wondered what a thing it would be...if overnight
everything you owe anything to, justice, or love, had really gone away. Free (Kushner 78),
which again shows that an empty Hall of Justice symbolizes freedom from both the Hall and the
idea of justice itself. Aside from this point in the play, the subject of justice had been brought up
twice before. Immediately preceding Joe s description of an empty Hall of Justice, in Act II,
Scene 6, Joe had struggled with the concepts of justice and ethics when contemplating accepting
the job offer Roy had provided him with. Specifically, Roy obtained the opportunity to join the
Justice Department in Washington, D.C. in order to help prevent Roy from becoming disbarred.
Upon realizing this, Joe proclaims, Even if I said yes to the job, it would be illegal to interfere.

opportunity would make him obligated to act unjustly according to the law and ethics. In response,

Difference Between The Aeneid And The Iliad
Regardless of the time frame, Virgil s Aeneid and Homer s epic the Iliad share both a copious
amount of similarities and differences. For example, many common themes such as heroism, fate,
and destiny are apparent in both works. Within the Aeneid and the Iliad, it is seen that the wars
going on during that time were glorious that is why the role of gods were significant in leading
both Aeneasand Achilles and influencing fate. In both texts, it is clear from the beginning that the
role of the gods is to make Aeneas and Achilles fulfill their journey The Iliadfocuses on the end of
the Trojan Warand the damaging power, while the Aeneid is focused during the aftermath of the
war and underlies the foundation for the new civilization. This paper will address and argue the
comparison of the role of gods and how each of the authors representation of the gods have
influence on the lives of mortals. In both the Aeneid and the Iliad their main characters were
chosen by gods because they have gained favor. Aeneas and Achilles were chosen because they
were destined to fulfill a journey. The gods in both works directed the lives of mortals, but, were
also very specific on who they would help. The gods determined the destiny of the mortals.
Achilles and Aeneas are similar in the sense that they have become favorable in the eyes of the
gods, partially because of their divine nepotism but also because they stand out from ordinary men
by having a great military and physical prowess.

approaches to the issue of safe injection sites. Harper made his view clear when he passed

Racial Prejudice By The Film Crash Essay
The term racial prejudice is defined as having a negative belief that is unfairly applied to all
individuals of an ethnic group even if such individuals have different characteristics as in
personality, appearance, and perspective. In society, many individuals believe that racial prejudice
only focuses on one particular social group, whereas others view racial prejudice pertaining to all
races. However, racial prejudice is without a doubt a phenomenon, one that isn t specific to one
ethnic or social group, instead prevalent in all groups of people that affect or are affected by the
institution of racism. Different associations and relationships play a vital role in how we perceive
others, at times people view others through the lens of racial prejudice. Crash, a movie directed by
(put director s name), shows different ethnic groupsthat face challenges within their lives as they
clash into one another by certain situations. In addition, Crash itself also focuses on many racial
prejudices that occur in society. The film Crash highlights the very notion that racial prejudice is
experienced by many groups because various ethnic groups are constantly violated for having
different physical appearances; mocked for having a different culture, and excluded from
opportunities within society s social structure.

The Four Types Of Organic Molecules
An organic molecule is a molecule that must have Carbon and Hydrogen. They are important
because they act as a backbone for all living matter. Without Carbon and Hydrogen, life would not
exist. A monomer is one subunit or building block of a larger molecule. The four types of organic
molecules are carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids.
Carbohydrates have two functions which is, provides short term energy and structure in some
organisms. They have an atomic makeup of Carbon, Hydrogen, and Oxygen, with a 2:1 ratio of
Hydrogen to Oxygen. The monomer is a monosaccharide which contains a single sugar. A couple
examples of this would be glucose, fructose, and deoxyribose which is found in DNA. Yet, foods
with this monomer in it would be mostly fruits, candy, and soda. Carbohydrates also have a
polysaccharide which is a polymer made of many monosaccharides strung together. Some examples
of these are starch, glycogen, cellulose, and chitin. A starch is storage from glucose in
plants(potatoes, pasta, waffles, and toast). Glycogen is storage from glucose in animals. Cellous is
structure in plants (cell wall). Chitin is structure in animals (exoskeleton). Proteins have two main
functions as well, but which is, build a cell or body structure and control all cell and body
functions. Examples of cell or body structure is hair, muscle, bone, tendons, and skin. Examples of
proteins controlling cell and body functions are motion, support, metabolism, transport, defence, and

Morality is a recurrent motivational theme in Christopher s Nolan version of the hero. According
to many of the Joker s action, he clearly acts upon immorality as opposed to its contrary.
However, how can Batman s actions be viewed? He is, like the villain, highly skilled in what he

be seen as a logical response to Batman. Alfred made a similar point arguing that in desperation of

The Importance Of Opsins
Opsins are light sensitive proteins coupled with the chromophore. More than a thousand of opsins
have been discovered so far1, which can be classified into three major groups: ciliary opsin(c
opsins), rhabdomeric opsin(r opsin), and photoisomerase opsin (p opsin). Opsins expressed in rods
and cones belong to c opsin. R opsin is mostly found in invertebrate rhabdomeric photoreceptors, but
also in melanopsin containing mammalian retinal ganglion cells. The third class includes retinal G
proteincoupled receptors (GPCR/RGR) and preopsin, which isomerizes photopigments and may
contribute to visual cycle2. Mammalian eye detects light through rods, cones, and intrinsically

Vertebrate melanopsin phototransduction shares similarities with invertebrate type opsin, which
responds to light via activating a Gq protein (Gq)/ phospholipase C (PLC) signaling cascade5.
Previous studies demonstrated a solar ultraviolet radiation (UVR) sensitive phototransduction
pathway in human epidermal melanocytes6,7,8,9. Specifically, UVR triggered a GО±q/11/PLCОІ
signaling pathway, which led to phosphatidylinositol (4,5) bisphosphate (PIP2) hydrolysis to create
diacylglycerol (DAG) and inositol 1, 4, 5 trisphosphate (IP3), and thus activated the transient
receptor potential ankyrin 1 (TRPA1). The influx of Ca2+ and Na2+ depolarized the cell9. The
recent discovered light sensitive DRG neurons also innervate the skin and exhibit non image
forming light responses. It s likely that opsin X has a downstream signal cascade similar to the
pathway characterized in opsin of human epidermal melanocytes and in non image forming
melanopsin in retinal ganglion cells. Therefore, the current study is to characterize the G protein
pathway that is responsible for light transduction as well as to determine whether the light sensitive
DRG shares a similar pathway as human epidermal melanocytes. This project will test the central
hypothesis that light stimulation activates the GО± /PLC signaling pathway, and then opens the
TRP channel as well as depolarizes the cell.

Impact Of Globalization On The Chinese Economy Essay
Globalization is an important term that is partially responsible for an economic revolution that
took place around the world. Theodore Levitt, a former Harvard Business Review editor, coined
the term globalization and used it for the first time in one of his articles in 1983 (Los Angeles
Times magazine, 2006). According to the Business Dictionary, globalizationcan be defined as the
worldwide movement toward economic, financial, trade, and communications integration
(businessdictonary.com). China can be considered as an excellent example to demonstrate
globalization. When Deng Xiaoping was elected as the Communist Party leader, he brought about
economic reforms that opened the Chinese economy to the rest of the world and later introduced
itself into the World Trade Organization(WTO) in 2001 (bbc.co.uk, 2006). Hence, expanding the
growth rate of the Chinese economy, which has been constantly rising over the past decade. As
of 2016, China is the second largest economy in the world with a GDP of $12.9 billion USD,
and will continue to grow following the trail the United States (money.cnn.com, 2016). The
emergence of China and its success as a powerful economy in the world can be partially credited
to globalization. The following paper focuses on both the positive and negative ways in which
China has been affected by globalization and its outcome that has placed China to where it is
today. Globalization has greatly helped the Chinese economy to expand in terms of Gross

Analysis Of Letters To My Child s Staff Person By Michael...
Category, classification, type, and style are all words that could be used to define the term
genre. Most people automatically relate genre to specific forms of entertainment like music or
television, but varying forms of writing should be added to that list. The way a piece of writing
is presented or formatted is extremely telling of the author s purpose and reasoning for writing a
particular work. Differing forms of media and technology are often used as a source of knowledge.
Because the average person will use their computer or smartphone to find an answer to their
question prior to asking a colleague or friend, many sources are structuring their articles and/or

If these inexperienced young adults were exposed to Brandwein s letter in advance they would
have more of an opportunity to understand a parent s perspective on sending their child to camp.
The experienced counselor could also learn from the letter because they could think back on the
time they spent with their campers and have the ability to gage their behavior with a different
viewpoint. That counselor would then possibly understand why a camper was acting a specific
way. While letters are personalized and are used to depict a specific emotion, there are many
alternate forms of writing that are also extremely informative. WikiHow is an online database

On Sunday, November 19, 2017, I visited First Presbyterian Church in Peachtree City for their
11:00 a.m. worship service. The outside of the church is pretty. It looked like how you would
expect a relatively modern church to look like. It had a bell as well. The main doors of the
church were open, and there was a man standing there greeting people as they walked in. I
assume this is to make the church seem welcoming. Upon entering the church, I noticed people
were standing around and talking. Some people were going into what I assumed was the room
where the actual service was going to be taking place. There were more men at this door as well.
They were passing out little booklets for the service. I decided to also go into this room. It was
quite large. The first thing I noticed was two large circular stain glass windows. They were very...

It was not crowded, and there was a lot of empty spaces in the pews. Most people came with
family. There were many husbands and wives and some had children with them as well. There
was a good deal of people who attended on their own as well. The ages of the attendees was
majority older. Most people were definitely over the age of 30, but there were also people there
who seemed to be younger than that as well. The races of the attendees was overwhelmingly
white, but there were some people of color in attendance as well. Most of the attendees seemed
most likely to be upper middle class because of the area surrounding the church and also from
looking at the cars in the parking lot. Peachtree City is a mainly wealthy area, so it makes sense
that most of the attendees at a church in the town also have a good bit of money. The congregants
were mainly dressed in nice clothing. Women wore dresses, skirts, or nice pants, and men wore
suits or a button down shirt with nice pants. The children were also dressed nicely for the most
part, but some were more casual and had on

Night and Fog Essay
Night and Fog
I must say that this film is very traumatizing. There are some images in this film that will be
burned and scarred into my mind for as long as I live. I have seen many holocaust films, but no
one was as near as dramatic and depicting as Night and Fog. However I did like the theme of this
movie. It is very sad but yet realistic. Our minds are murky and dull. We tend to only remember
the important situation in our lives. Yet we don t remember the importance of our own history. I
say OUR history be cause we all are human beings on this earth. Whether we believe in Allah,
Jesus, Jehovah, or whatever higher power, we are all one race, and that the human race. It is very
sad to know that human beings were treated and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2) The theme in which everyone in class agreed on which the comparison about the past and the
present was very clear. The same pathways which were filled with the blood of the victims were
now all buried under the ground. The color represented the present and the black and white
represented the past. The music helped in elaborating this great film. As I mentioned in class
different instruments helped create different moods for different scenes in the movie. We heard
the cello and the violin to create sadness and remorse. The flute created eeriness and the trumpet
created awareness. I thought these were instruments and tools that help make this film
extraordinary. I think the director did a great job in filming this movie. He didn t take any credit
for his achievement but I believe he honored and remembered the victims of the holocaust. One
of the most important lines of this film that really impacted me was who will be our next
executioners? The reason why I loved this line is because we make little things so trivial and we
take everything for granted. Our liberties are a blessing and yet people don t seem to realize this.
I believe that only when we are faced with a natural catastrophe that will put humanity s survival
at risk and we lose everything that will be the day that we will have gained all. Night and Fog is a
great movie, although I wouldn t watch it again because of the images that are

Identity Theory Mental States
Identity theory attempts to explain the relationship between the body and the mind. It states that
some mental states are the same as some brain states. This implies that one could group mental
events like pain, pleasure or hunger into events that correlate with physical states of the brain; for
example, when one feels pain, C fibers are firing(mason, identity theory ). However, there are many
objections to this theory. Overall, these objections are compelling and show that identity theory is
weak and untrue. In this essay, I will argue that mental states are not identical to brainstates by
breaking down the Identity Theory. Identity theory groups everything the mindexperiences into
parcels that correlate with physical activities in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even if it is presumed that this disjunctive physical kinds theory is totally correct and accurate, it
can not save Identity Theory. Again, it is possible to look at the hypothetical example of an alien
life form that evolved totally differently than any life form on Earth evolved. There is no reason
for c fiber firing to equal pain in this being. C fiber firing could equate to any mental state in this
hypothetical being, from pain to love to hunger to sleepiness. There is no reason to assume that it
must equate to pain. Plus, once again, reducing and refining Identity Theory in this manner makes
it less informative and useful. As with restricting Identity Theory to specific times, disjunctive
physical kinds restrict Identity Theory to the point of absurdity and make it a theory that is in no
way practical for explaining real experiences in the world. Neither the cow nor the human nor the
hypothetical alien can be adequately described using a theory that is so

An Observation of Development of Danio Rerio
An Observation of Development of Danio rerio Principles of Nervous System Development An
observation of development of Danio rerio Xenopus laevis and Danio rerio are two models that
are extensively used to study early embryonic development, in particular, neurulation. During
this practical Danio rerio was used as the model, however the advantages and disadvantages of
the use of both models will be discussed herein. Both Xenopus and Zebrafish are excellent
model organisms in the study of development. They can both be generated in the lab at relatively
low cost and development of the embryos can be observed within a relatively short time frame.
The eggs themselves are also very easy to observe due to their transparency. Xenopus can be
generated through in vitro fertilisation or natural mating with an optimal temperature of 23В°C
(Xenbase.org 2014). Zebrafish similarly can be generated in relatively large sizes, by
maintaining them on long day photoperiods of about 14 hours of light and 10 hours of dark with
their development, once fertilized and incubated between 26 28В°C, hatching between 3 4 days
(Bradford and Sun 1994). Both Xenopus and Zebrafish have a known genome and knockdowns of
genes etc., can be easily performed and observed as micro manipulation of both Zebrafish and
Xenopus are relatively easy to do as they are robust embryos. It is also worth mentioning that while
both animals are excellent models for development, genetic studies cannot be done on Xenopus

Tile Work
Incorrect tile placements are common mistakes for the DIY projects. Wrong positions and gaps
are hard to hide. Start out by working from the center of the space. Working from the center to

tile and start over.
Grouting
There are two types of grout; sanded and unsanded. Sanded grout is used for most home

Separation Of Ionic Molecules Lab Report
In chemistry, an ionic compound is a type of chemical bond where the ions are fixed together via an
ionic bond. An ionic bond is formed when a metal reacts with non metal; in the reaction, electrons
are transferred from the metal atoms to the non metal atoms forming negatively and positively
charged ions. The electrostatic attraction, one of the strongest force in the universe which is caused
by electric charges between the positive and negative ions, holds the ionic compounds tightly
together. Consider the reaction between the metal calcium oxide (гЂ–CaгЂ—^(2+)) and the non
metal water (H_2 O), which react together to yield the ionic compound calcium hydroxide
(Ca(гЂ–OH)гЂ—_2).
In this reaction, calcium oxide donated its electron which was a negatively ... Show more content on

Meaning, compounds with the same type of bonding tend to be soluble with one another. Polar
substances would dissolve in polar solvents such as water, however, would not dissolve in non
polar solvents. Non polar substances dissolve in non polar solvents but do not dissolve in polar
ones. Most ionic compounds are able to be dissolved in water as the water molecules hydrate ions.
For an ionic compound to be dissolved, the water molecules must stabilize the ions, which thus
would result in the separation of the ionic bond to form a solution. Water is a polar molecule, it has
a permanent dipole. The oxygen atom has a partial negative charge whilst the hydrogen atom has
a partial positive charge. When an ionic substance is placed in to the water, the water molecules
would quickly attract the charged ions from the substance. They then become free to move
about. However, this only occurs when the attractive forces between the water molecules and
ions are stronger than the attractive forces within the ionic compound. CaOH is a slightly
insoluble compound, the solubility of CaOH is approximately 0.189 g/100 mL of water at 20п‚°. A
more soluble ionic compounds solubility such as NaCl is only 35.7 g/100 mL of water at 20В°C.
CaOH is only slightly insoluble as calcium and oxygen are +2 and 2 ions in

Ethical Review of the 1971 Ford Pinto
In the mid to late 1960 s American automobile manufacturing was being dominated by Japanese
imports. These imports, smaller in size than the domestic vehicles at the time, offered an
economical and dependable alternative to what American automobiles offered. In order to
remain competitive with these Japanese imports Ford chief executive officer Lee Iacoca
instructed the Ford manufacturing company to come up with a vehicle for the 1971 sales year
to compete with these Japanese imports. The normal time for design and production for a new
vehicle line is 43 months but Iacoca ordered the process to be reduced to 25 months in order to
compete. The timeline was met but a rear end impact study was not conducted until after the car
was already on sales lots. Drawn to the relatively inexpensive price for a vehicle at the time, Lily
Gray purchased a 1972 Ford Pinto. This is where the production flaw of the Pinto was first
revealed. Gray was traveling with 13 year old Richard Grimshaw on the highway when she had
to slow to avoid a broke down vehicle. Also trying to avoid the broke down vehicle a Ford
Galaxy traveling at approximately 50 miles per hour rear ended the Pinto. Almost immediately the
Pinto burst into flames, both passengers had severe burns on their bodies, and later Lily Gray
would pass away as a result of the burns from the crash.

The Effects Of Music Education On Children s Brain...
History Sings Good News for Musicians
Historically, there has been a debate among educators and researchers whether music education
plays a significant role in a child s brain development, intelligence quotient, social development and
overall success in life. Many believe the data has been unreliable because there is little to prove
with absolute certainty that those who participate in music education were not just born smarter.
On the other hand, substantial data has been collected in recent years that seems to clear up those
questions of doubt. As America s children continue to show a significant drop in their annual test
scores, while simultaneously demonstrating worsened behavior in school, answers are being
sought from many angles. Suggested reasons for the deteriorating behavior include a lack of
boundaries at home, attention seeking, an absence of positive role models at home, low self
esteem and family breakdown. (Townsend, 2013) While there are many contributing factors to
these heart breaking realities, I will present how simply providing regular music lessons can be
pivotal for a child. The diminishing importance our culture is placing on the benefits of music
education is impacting our nation s children by limiting their potential in academic achievement,
social development, and overall well being, but we can resolve this problem in part by raising
awareness about this vital issue.

Upbringing And Teenage Aggression
Upbringing and teenage aggression.
Aggression is a complex issue to contextualise, as it can mean both hostile, attacking behaviour and
verbal behaviour with intent to cause harm. However, aggression may also be reactionary in
response to environmental factors. Teenage aggression arises from negative environmental
influences during upbringing. The roles of peers, family and media shape these environmental
influences which include: bullying, physical abuse, domestic violence, and violent video games.
Peer relations play a major part in the social development and social upbringing of children at
school. However, bullying during schooling years is an environmental factor that causes an increase
in teenage aggression, especially after an adverse event. Studies conducted by Roland and IdsГёe
(2001) demonstrate that being victimised by bullying causes increases in teenage aggression,
especially that of reactive aggression. Reactive aggression is regarded as a frustrating or
provoking event occurring to the individual, the individual may then display aggressive behaviour
while they are angry. While this behaviour is generally short lived, an investigation into the effects
of long term bullying by Sharp, Thompson, Arora, (2000) revealed that the most common negative
reactions to long term bullying was irritability which was linked to higher levels of stress and
aggression. This study shows that if children are bullied throughout their schooling life they may be
at higher risk of

To take a closer look at the financing, the proposal to date is that the general partners will be
made up of the group and the hospital. The general partners will contribute $500,000 and will

have no liability beyond the initial investment. The hospital will borrow $1 million from Miami
National Bank for a five year term with interest rates of 8%. This initial $2 million will purchase

As the current proposal stands the limited partners are to receive their initial investment the first

investment back first. However, after year one the cash flows are split 50/50 general partners to

Barkley replied that its situation was strong and that it believes that were the other banks the ones
that were quoting lower than effective interbank borrowing cost rates (Kregel 2012. p. 2 4).
The main victim of this manipulation would have been the competitiveness in the financial
markets; as this scheme would unfavorably influence the efficient distribution of capitals and
cause distortion of prices, i.e. the mortgage prices would decreased and therefore the amount of
houses sold would increase dramatically as well as related assets; such as: furniture, construction
materials, etc. while depressing others. The (Abrantes Merz, Kraten, D. Metz, and Seow, 2012. p.

main benchmark for short term Interest rates, a negligible distortion on LIBOR would lead to huge
capital transference from lenders to borrowers in an immoral way (Abrantes Merz, Kraten, D.
Metz, and Seow, 2012. p. 1).
Maybe the very same process to estimate the LIBOR rate propitiated the manipulation scheme.
The BBA select 16 banks that submit quotes based on their effective funding costs. This open
the possibility that even 5 of the 16 banks could collude to influence the LIBOR rates. The type
of banks selected could also be a factor to try to influence the LIBOR, i. e. If they are lenders, they
would be benefited from higher IBOR rates; on the other hand, if borrowers they would welcome

architect s interest, but also is an issue of engineers, scientists and even social scientist s; and yet it
can even extend to global warmingconcerns. For this reason, let us firstly start and find out the most
current dispute entitled as humanintervention in nature.
Humans since their very first existence have been in a big struggle against the nature. However,
they shape the nature to suffice their needs and in essence adapt themselves accordingly into the
conditions given by the Mother Nature. Over time nature has resisted to this human endeavor in
every possible way it can and tried not to surrender humans. No matter how strong this resistance
is; humans somehow found a way to break it down with their inborn skills that they managed to
develop in time. This can be regarded as a seamless dance between these two enormous forces.
As the nature manifested itself as an obstacle where humans accomplished to push it away, this
struggle shaped the way in which humans developed a way of

College Tailgate Event Analysis
According to dictionary.com, a tailgate is an outdoor party or picnic, typically served in the
parking lot of a sports stadium, and served on the tailgates of station wagons. This definition
slightly differs from of the actual description of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte s
advertisement for the tailgate event on campus. The event was described as a fun filled tailgate
with free food and giveaways. At the UNCC, college tailgates provide a platform in which students
can display their school pride in various student oriented social activities such as free food, music,
and miscellaneous items (school shirts, hats, school pencils etc.) prior to a popular sports game

Dominance correlates to competitiveness because it gives a sense of power. Power as discussed in
class can be described as ability to exercise one s will which can alter the attitude of the opponent
once defeated. In relation to the discussions in class power is gained by competitiveness. For
example, the tailgate encourages students to prepare for the battle against another opponent. In the
Journal of Consumer Psychology it states, ...competitiveness was guided by three situational
contexts in which the motivation to win and defeat others may impact consumer behavior (Mowen
54). Now this competitiveness is universal but in terms of both men and women it differs slightly. I
noticed at the men were expressing their confidence and competitiveness in comparison to the
women. Gender role within the difference of competition is a factor due to the cultural norm that
men are supposed to be aggressive as a trait of masculinity and women are supposed to be
submissive as a trait of femininity. In the research article, Gender and Competition, stated,
Laboratory studies have documented that women often respond less favorably to competition than
men...men are more eager to compete (Niederle and Vesterlund 601). Due the cultural norm that
men are supposed to be more aggressive and competitive, affects how women react to things that

Crossbreds
According to a study done by students from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary
Medicine, the most frequent causes of death in puppies( ages two and younger) are trauma,
congenital disease( defects that develops before birth), and infectious causes. Older dogs,
however, especially those older than ten, are more likely to die from cancer. Crossbred dogs are
prone to many diseases and disorders. Crossbreeding is the act of breeding two different breeds of
the same species(an organism that shares characteristics.) Crossbreeding dogs can alter the puppies

While there are many advantages to cross breeding dogs, there are also many disadvantages. This

Oedipus Essay
Hans
Rockwell
8/26/17
Question
1 Question
1.)
One of the responses people usually have about
Oedipus
is if he really deserved the fate that he ended up with.
It s
not his fault that
Jocasta
and Laius tried to outsmart fate and dispose of him. In trying to run from this prophecy, did he
really do anything any other person, given the culture, wouldn t have done? Is Oedipus a victim of
fate or is he responsible for the choices he makes?
What
does
Sophocles

What
do you think?

to figure out whether or not Oedipus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are definitely two arguments on whether or not
Oedipus
had fallen to fate or made his own decisions, but if you think about it, the prophecy stated literally
everything that was going to happen, and maybe it would not had happened if Oedipus did not
seek out everything because the prophecy only unfolded when he began to venture out and look
for the problem trying to solve his own problems. Him doing this unraveled something much
worse and is what led him to his banishment, so if you think about it, maybe fate did bring him to
this terrible ending, but how can we be for sure because he did make these decisions himself.
Jocasta
and
Laius
were the two to blame for believing in such a thing and leaving their child to die a terrible death,
only to come back and have the prophecy happen anyways. King
Laius
sought out the prophecy and found out that their son
(if
they had one), would eventually kill him.
He
did not want this so he gave up his son for adoption. Oedipus got into an altercation and ended up
killing his birth father even after he sought out the prophecy as well only to find out that he would
still end up killing his father.

The Emotional Analysis Of The Star Spangled Banner
Boom, boom, boom. Mommy, that one is my favorite! Screams a blonde haired, blue eyed five
year old little girl as fireworks screech into the midnight sky over the crystal blue lake on the
Fourth of July. Nearly two hundred and forty years ago our beloved land was born, gaining
independence from Great Britain and declaring America as its own. From that day forward July
Fourth would be celebrated with parades, festivals, and get togethers across the nation. Red, white,
and blue blanketing towns, patriotic music blaring through speakers, and fireworks shooting into
the night sky, all to celebrate the birth of our nation. Across America no matter what day it is, the
Star Spangled Banner flies high, to represent the passion and love Americans have for their
homeland; however, present day issues are rivaling the foundation our Founding Fathers built the
Untied States around. Francis Scott Key sat across the from Fort McHenry the night after the
town was bombarded by British militaries. (history.com) Looking upon the burning city in
Maryland, he found himself deeply inspired by the flag that stood waving gracefully in the smoke
filled sky. Galvanized by the sight Key wrote the poem that would soon stand alone in America
and named the anthem that plays before every social event in America. The Star Spangled Banner
was a tribute to all the fallen soldiers in the battles between the British and American troops that led
to our independence. Francis Scott Key wrote, Oh say does

Introduction
The influence of technology throughout the 21st century has been significant, affecting every
aspect of society, including sport. Technology has created an unofficial, esports (Electronic Sports),
which has grown rapidly over the past 4 years, erecting various Tournaments and bringing in
millions of viewers. This interests me due to my passion for video games and sports, a
combination of the two being extremely enticing; however, the real interest lies in the controversial

Streamers are people who broadcast them playing video games through a broadcasting service.
This service is twitch , as it has a monopoly on the video game broadcasting market. The
broadcasters gain ad revenue and viewers can subscribe to streams, allowing them to gain an
income from streaming and interacting with viewers, however, it is a free service and can be
viewed by anyone without any payments needing to be made. Esports has influenced this due to
the immense amount of organisations requiring professional players to implement streaming in
their day to day activities. Streaming is an integral part of a professional gamer s life in the
western world due to the ad revenue it provides. Companies attempt to raise the profile of the
players through content on youtube such as gaming house tours, making the players seem more
likeable and approachable, directly influencing the user interaction gained from streaming, thus,
increasing revenue. By observing twitch streams I was able to find that the top 3 twitch streams
on avg. at any one time would have 10 20 thousand viewers in the League of Legends section
alone, as supported by statistic gathering website Socialblade , with the other 7 in the top 10
averaging 1 7 thousand. Many other sections such as Counter Strike: Global Offensive and
Hearthstone also have similar statistics. This done not include

Character Analysis Of Watchmen And Jimmy Corrig The...
The superhero archetype is traditionally a staple of the comic book medium. The Golden Age of
comics, a period of comic publishing between the 1930s and early 1950s, was rife with larger
than life super human figures, who often served as an escape from the anxieties produced by war
and everyday life. Superheroes like Superman, Batman, and Captain America function as cultural
representations of idealism and the American Dream. However, representations of heroism in comic
books has shifted significantly since the bright eyed idealism and Romanticism of the Golden Age.
In the Modern Age of comic publishing, contemporary comics tend to appropriate, adapt, and

The text is wrought with nihilism, cynicism, and multiple characters who are affected by the
power of the abyss. The Comedian s big joke is that there is no point to anything, and he does not
really care. It is not a particularly funny joke , but it ultimately speaks to the motif of nihilism
within the comic. This sensation of nihilism is aligned with the corruption of the American Hero
archetype. It is impossible to ignore the fact that the novel is constructed around a sort of alternative
future/past, an alternate universe that functions within a political climate which exacerbates the
tensions between America and other nations, as well as internally. There is a sort of anti
Romanticism about this text that renders the characters more human, despite the fact that they are
supposed to be the hero figures. The inclusion of Hollis Mason s Under The Hood, excerpts from

Recrystallization Of Naphthalene Lab Report
Experiment 4: Recrystallization of Pure Phthalic Acid, Benzoic Acid, and Naphthalene
Charles Nyberg
Gilbert Immanuel and Rachel Zigelsky
Mussie Gide Introduction Chemical experiments are often described, when they are finished, by the
yield or recovery of the target product or solid. Also melting point can be tested to determine purity
in a compound. Most times these chemicals are not completely pure so they can be recrystallized to
remove the impurities. The technique of recrystallization learned and utilized in this lab works best
to remove contaminates from nonvolatile organic solids.1 A solventis used that dissolves the solid
at room temperature and then the impurities can be removed via pipette or other simplified
removal process. When all impurities are dissolved and removed, a lattice or an ordered
structure in the form of crystals is able to be collected and observed. Some substances cannot be
recrystallized with only one solvent. Therefore, two solvents, or solvent pairs, can help dissolve
the substance at boiling point only and not room temperature.2 Solvent pairs are able to be
dissolved into each other but not anything else effectively. One part of the pair is used to prevent
dissolving at room temperature and the other half is used to help dissolve at boiling point. Lastly,
activated charcoal is utilized to remove brightly colored impurities from the dissolved solid
solutions. The charcoal attracts the impure substances and then is able to be

Humorous Snakes In America
Snakes are very frightening. We have all heard stories of snakes biting people, or of how
venomous snakes are. However there are only about twenty species of venomous snakes that live
in America. Sixteen of those snakes are rattlesnakes, two are coral snakes, one is the copperhead,
and the other is the cotton mouth (water moccasin). Rattlesnakes are easily distinguishable by the
rattles that alert you when they are coming. The other snakes have other recognizable features to
distinguish them. So what? some may ask, They are still frightening because of their venom! Yes,

Pest control is one of the most prominent things a snake can do. As predators of rats and mice they
can keep them out of your house. In fact a worker at a Florida dog kennel noticed dozens of
snakes living in the rafters, so he decided they needed to go. He killed the snakes systematically,
until all the snakes were dead. After the snakes died, rats came to take their place. The rat
population exploded, a state biologist stated later. This event cost the kennel a lot of money
because of the rats eating and contaminating dog food. As this example shows, snakes are very
important to the natural order of things. Oftentimes predators in an area will scare away their
prey, such as snakes scaring away rats. More often than naught, people do more harm than good
exterminating snakes. Although some snakes need to be killed or just removed from an area
because they are dangerous, non venomous snakes pose no real threat most of the time. Although
most venomous snakes are not that aggressive to humans; toddlers and smaller children can make
them aggressive, making them dangerous to children and possibly adults. As snakes are more
visibly dangerous, it might seem better at the time to get rid of them; however rats can carry
diseases. Diseases can wipe out an entire family, or put them in the hospital, whereas snakes often

The Social and Cultural Life of Americans during the Cold War
The threat of nuclear war in the 1950 s was real and was one that was on the mind nearly every
person in both the United States and the United Kingdom. After the end of the Second World War
the world can be seen to be split into two sides, the East and the West, Communism and
Democracy. After the Second World War the Soviet Union became paranoid with the West as well
as the United States become paranoid of the Communist East, and after the Soviets had made their
first nuclear bomb this created massive friction between the NATO alliance and the Soviet Union
and the eastern bloc. Only after the soviet union had obtained the hydrogen bomb and began to

This sense of paranoia that can also be accredited to the culture or nuclear preparedness. Families
were advised to build fallout shelters and in schools children were told to duck and cover in the
case of nuclear disaster. This sense that nuclear annihilation could happen at any moment was
well established in American culture. However in Britain the fear on the bomb can be seen as
lesser than that of the USA. As Peter Hennessy expresses in his book Having it so good, Britain
in the fifties The wider, personal implications of the bomb perhaps burnt their way into the
collective British psyche more slowly than might have been expected 3. Towards the beginning
of the nuclear arms race, a lot of information was not disclosed to the public, such as the amount

people, and the size of the bombs used was around 1.6 megatons of TNT. Although there were
some civil defence films that tried to paint a picture of nuclear war none of them captured the
threat of war and many films trivialised it as Spencer R. Weart writes the stage was dominated by
tales of mutant tribes and so forth 4 this caused many people to downplay the threat of nuclear war

The Ontological And Epistemological Theory
3.1Introduction
Kumar (2014) defines research methodology as the process used to collect data and information for
the purpose of analysis and decision making. This chapter will discuss the philosophical foundations
of the research which will explain the ontological and epistemological stance underpinning the
study. It discusses the mixed method design and the specific qualitative and quantitative methods
adopted and how these challenges were resolved.
3.2Research paradigm
Corbetta (2003) defined paradigm as the perception adopted by researchers to inspire and direct a
given science. Similarly, Guba and Lincoln (1994) noted that paradigms shape research in terms of
reality (ontology), knowledge (epistemology) and methods of gaining ... Show more content on

Tolk (2012) added that the positivist approach is characterized by control, replication and
hypothesis testing. These two methods were used to identify the opinions provided by interviewees.
A constructivism approaches to research
According to Bryman (2012), a constructivism approach is an ontological position that asserts that
social actors are continually accomplishing social phenomena and their meanings. This approach
assists the researcher to present a particular version of social reality, rather than one that can be
regarded as definitive.
3.4Qualitative vs. Quantitative study
To achieve the research purpose, the study employed an extensive research to collect accurate data
and provide elaborate and descriptive data on the governance of sports in Malaysia. According to
Creswell (2013), a quantitative study involves the use of statistical and mathematical computations
to analyze data obtained from the research while a qualitative study uses non numerical methods to
gain an understanding of a phenomenon. A quantitative study allows the researcher to compare the
various variables derived from the study while qualitative study enables the researcher to use
primary sources to obtain data for the research. These two methods were used collectively to
provide a suitable representation of the whole population under consideration and also provide

Evolution Of A Large Mammal s Life Cycles
Fossils are considered to be evolutionary markers that records a lineages of creatures across time
providing a distinct way to compare different species. When Darwin set forth on a journey to the
Galapagos Islands, he discovered many aspects of evolution. During his expedition, he discovered
the fossils of creatures which closely resembled the modern armadillos. At that time, Darwin did
not possess any tools or resources to predict the phylogenetic lineages and the evolutionary history
of the armadillos. However, using modern day science and techniques like DNAand protein
sequencing, it is now possible to better understand the relationships between different organisms.
Furthermore, by observing the early developmental (embryonic) stages of a large mammals life
cycles it is possible to indicate the relationship of the mammals with other mammals6. The
combination of these methods may lead us to determine the phylogenetic position of armadillos
Dasypodidae and other related organisms, such as anteaters and sloths.
Armadillos evolutionary history has been a subject of many controversies and has been revised
multiple times. Nevertheless, new developments in sequencing have allowed us to better
understand the evolutionary relations using the DNA and proteins found in the fossils. By the use
of these techniques, we are able to see the points of similarities among different species of
armadillos. Furthermore, we can produce a phylogenetic tree to see the divergence of

  • 2. Academic Writing Styles Academic writing Proper academic writing should demonstrate the students understanding of the subject at hand. (Elton, 2010) adds that because academic writing may defer from discipline to discipline, instructors in schools have a duty to express their expectations of students writing while students on the other hand should act on it. Academic writing is logical The student s work needs to have a introduction, the body and the conclusion. The introduction gives a background to the topic and one could include interesting facts and quotations. It is important to outline the main ideas that are in the body. The student then discusses the main points in the body. This is done in paragraphs which should be well structured to give a coherent argument. The conclusion is the final paragraph and must briefly summarise every idea discussed in the body. Other s works Academic writing builds on what others have done on the same subject. A student therefore needs to base his work on his own ideas as well as what others have done and thought about, however, students should take care not to get lost in another scholar s voice but should instead incorporate the information so as to maintain the novelty of his argument. (Hampton, 2014) states that another scholar s work should be fully acknowledged by accurate citation. Academic writing is objective Academic writing is objective (A. • 3. Who Is Dido In The Aeneid On the Deaths of Dido and Turnus In Virgil s Aeneid, the hero is frequently referred to by the epithet Pius Aeneas, or in English, Aeneas the True . While pius does not necessarily translate to pious in English, it does carry the connotation of being good and dutiful, in whatever ways the context demands. In Aeneas case, he is dutiful to the gods and to the quest they give him, as well as to his homeland, his people, and those close to him in that order. In the Aeneid, there are two times in particular where his sense of duty conflicts with his personal interest, and both of these situations end in a death. The first are the events that lead to the death of the Carthaginian queen Dido, and the second are those that lead to the death ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Juno, unwilling to let the Trojans settle in Latium, sets the populace against them. This populace is lead by their princess betrothed, Prince Turnus. The war culminates in the second, less official duel between Turnus and Aeneas. The gods intervene on both sides until Jupiter and Venus convince Juno to surrender, right before the end of the duel. A Fury scares Turnus out of his strength, allowing Aeneas to win the duel. It s clear that he considers Turnus plea to stretch not your hatred further , until he sees that his defeated opponent is wearing Pallas baldric as a trophy and kills him on the spot (XII, 338). This death tells the reader more about Aeneas character than Dido s did. In this case, there were two dutiful options, rather than only the one which had existed in Carthage. On one hand, Aeneas could have allowed Turnus to go home, following the advice of his father, Anchises, who told him that the duty of the future Roman civilization was to show mercy to the conquered, and to wage war until the haughty are brought low. (VI, 173). On the other hand, he could avenge his close friend, Pallas, a duty of honor. The choice was left to Aeneas the True, to decide which duty he should follow. His quest is complete: he is in Italy, and either way, this decision will end the war. When he does choose, it s obviously spur of the moment, allowing the reader to ... • 5. Naked Egg Lab Experiment Naked Egg Lab Frances Jose Redmond High School Biology, Period 3 Mrs. Sinclair 7 November 2014 Introduction The objective of the Naked Egg Lab is to soak the egg in a solution and determine if that solution is isotonic, hypertonic, or hypotonic in relation to the egg. A solution is a mixture of two or more substances in which the molecules of the substances are evenly distributed (Miller/Levine 2000). The substances in a solution are solutes, the substance that is dissolved (Miller/Levine 2000), and solvents, the substance in which the solute dissolves (Miller/Levine 2000). In this case, the egg will be put in a salt water solution, where salt is the solute and water is the solvent. This lab is looking for three different types of solutions; isotonic, hypertonic, and hypotonic. An isotonic solution is when the concentration of two solutions is the same (Miller/Levine 2000). When a solution has a higher concentration of solutes than the solution on the other side of the membrane, it is hypertonic. Hypotonic solutions are the opposite, and have a lesser concentration of solutes than the solution on the other side of the membrane. Diffusion is the process by which molecules tend to move from an area where they are more concentrated to an area ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After the shell is finally gone, the egg will be placed in the salt water solution. It is predicted that the egg will gain mass and look larger (qualitative data) because of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hall Of Justice Analysis During the conversation between Joe and Louis in Act II, Scene 7, Joe explains that the day before, he accidentally showed up for work at the Hall of Justice on a Sunday. Due to the fact that the Hall is closed on Sundays, Joe arrived to discover a deserted courthouse and panicked, thinking, The whole Hall of Justice, it s empty, it s deserted, it s gone out of business. Forever (Kushner 78). Although it was deserted simply due to the fact that it was Sunday, the empty Hall of Justice symbolizes freedom. Specifically, this can be seen when Joe states, It would be...heartless terror. Yes. Terrible, and...Very great. • 10. Difference Between The Aeneid And The Iliad Regardless of the time frame, Virgil s Aeneid and Homer s epic the Iliad share both a copious amount of similarities and differences. For example, many common themes such as heroism, fate, and destiny are apparent in both works. Within the Aeneid and the Iliad, it is seen that the wars going on during that time were glorious that is why the role of gods were significant in leading both Aeneasand Achilles and influencing fate. In both texts, it is clear from the beginning that the role of the gods is to make Aeneas and Achilles fulfill their journey The Iliadfocuses on the end of the Trojan Warand the damaging power, while the Aeneid is focused during the aftermath of the war and underlies the foundation for the new civilization. This paper will address and argue the comparison of the role of gods and how each of the authors representation of the gods have influence on the lives of mortals. In both the Aeneid and the Iliad their main characters were chosen by gods because they have gained favor. Aeneas and Achilles were chosen because they were destined to fulfill a journey. The gods in both works directed the lives of mortals, but, were also very specific on who they would help. The gods determined the destiny of the mortals. Achilles and Aeneas are similar in the sense that they have become favorable in the eyes of the gods, partially because of their divine nepotism but also because they stand out from ordinary men by having a great military and physical prowess. ... A couple examples of this would be glucose, fructose, and deoxyribose which is found in DNA. Yet, foods with this monomer in it would be mostly fruits, candy, and soda. Carbohydrates also have a polysaccharide which is a polymer made of many monosaccharides strung together. Some examples of these are starch, glycogen, cellulose, and chitin. A starch is storage from glucose in plants(potatoes, pasta, waffles, and toast). Glycogen is storage from glucose in animals. Cellous is structure in plants (cell wall). Chitin is structure in animals (exoskeleton). Proteins have two main functions as well, but which is, build a cell or body structure and control all cell and body functions. Examples of cell or body structure is hair, muscle, bone, tendons, and skin. Examples of proteins controlling cell and body functions are motion, support, metabolism, transport, defence, and ... More than a thousand of opsins have been discovered so far1, which can be classified into three major groups: ciliary opsin(c opsins), rhabdomeric opsin(r opsin), and photoisomerase opsin (p opsin). Opsins expressed in rods and cones belong to c opsin. R opsin is mostly found in invertebrate rhabdomeric photoreceptors, but also in melanopsin containing mammalian retinal ganglion cells. The third class includes retinal G proteincoupled receptors (GPCR/RGR) and preopsin, which isomerizes photopigments and may contribute to visual cycle2. Vertebrate melanopsin phototransduction shares similarities with invertebrate type opsin, which responds to light via activating a Gq protein (Gq)/ phospholipase C (PLC) signaling cascade5. Previous studies demonstrated a solar ultraviolet radiation (UVR) sensitive phototransduction pathway in human epidermal melanocytes6,7,8,9. Specifically, UVR triggered a GО±q/11/PLCОІ signaling pathway, which led to phosphatidylinositol (4,5) bisphosphate (PIP2) hydrolysis to create diacylglycerol (DAG) and inositol 1, 4, 5 trisphosphate (IP3), and thus activated the transient receptor potential ankyrin 1 (TRPA1). The influx of Ca2+ and Na2+ depolarized the cell9. The recent discovered light sensitive DRG neurons also innervate the skin and exhibit non image forming light responses. It s likely that opsin X has a downstream signal cascade similar to the pathway characterized in opsin of human epidermal melanocytes and in non image forming melanopsin in retinal ganglion cells. Therefore, the current study is to characterize the G protein pathway that is responsible for light transduction as well as to determine whether the light sensitive DRG shares a similar pathway as human epidermal melanocytes. This project will test the central hypothesis that light stimulation activates the GО± /PLC signaling pathway, and then opens the TRP channel as well as depolarizes the cell. Theodore Levitt, a former Harvard Business Review editor, coined the term globalization and used it for the first time in one of his articles in 1983 (Los Angeles Times magazine, 2006). According to the Business Dictionary, globalizationcan be defined as the worldwide movement toward economic, financial, trade, and communications integration (businessdictonary.com). China can be considered as an excellent example to demonstrate globalization. When Deng Xiaoping was elected as the Communist Party leader, he brought about economic reforms that opened the Chinese economy to the rest of the world and later introduced itself into the World Trade Organization(WTO) in 2001 (bbc.co.uk, 2006). Hence, expanding the growth rate of the Chinese economy, which has been constantly rising over the past decade. As of 2016, China is the second largest economy in the world with a GDP of $12.9 billion USD, and will continue to grow following the trail the United States (money.cnn.com, 2016). The emergence of China and its success as a powerful economy in the world can be partially credited to globalization. However, there are many objections to this theory. Overall, these objections are compelling and show that identity theory is weak and untrue. An Observation of Development of Danio Rerio An Observation of Development of Danio rerio Principles of Nervous System Development An observation of development of Danio rerio Xenopus laevis and Danio rerio are two models that are extensively used to study early embryonic development, in particular, neurulation. During this practical Danio rerio was used as the model, however the advantages and disadvantages of the use of both models will be discussed herein. Both Xenopus and Zebrafish are excellent model organisms in the study of development. They can both be generated in the lab at relatively low cost and development of the embryos can be observed within a relatively short time frame. The eggs themselves are also very easy to observe due to their transparency. Xenopus can be generated through in vitro fertilisation or natural mating with an optimal temperature of 23В°C (Xenbase.org 2014). Zebrafish similarly can be generated in relatively large sizes, by maintaining them on long day photoperiods of about 14 hours of light and 10 hours of dark with their development, once fertilized and incubated between 26 28В°C, hatching between 3 4 days (Bradford and Sun 1994). Both Xenopus and Zebrafish have a known genome and knockdowns of genes etc., can be easily performed and observed as micro manipulation of both Zebrafish and Xenopus are relatively easy to do as they are robust embryos. • 32. Separation Of Ionic Molecules Lab Report In chemistry, an ionic compound is a type of chemical bond where the ions are fixed together via an ionic bond. An ionic bond is formed when a metal reacts with non metal; in the reaction, electrons are transferred from the metal atoms to the non metal atoms forming negatively and positively charged ions. The electrostatic attraction, one of the strongest force in the universe which is caused by electric charges between the positive and negative ions, holds the ionic compounds tightly together. Consider the reaction between the metal calcium oxide (гЂ–CaгЂ—^(2+)) and the non metal water (H_2 O), which react together to yield the ionic compound calcium hydroxide (Ca(гЂ–OH)гЂ—_2). In this reaction, calcium oxide donated its electron which was a negatively ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Meaning, compounds with the same type of bonding tend to be soluble with one another. Polar substances would dissolve in polar solvents such as water, however, would not dissolve in non polar solvents. Non polar substances dissolve in non polar solvents but do not dissolve in polar ones. Most ionic compounds are able to be dissolved in water as the water molecules hydrate ions. For an ionic compound to be dissolved, the water molecules must stabilize the ions, which thus would result in the separation of the ionic bond to form a solution. Water is a polar molecule, it has a permanent dipole. The oxygen atom has a partial negative charge whilst the hydrogen atom has a partial positive charge. When an ionic substance is placed in to the water, the water molecules would quickly attract the charged ions from the substance. They then become free to move about. However, this only occurs when the attractive forces between the water molecules and ions are stronger than the attractive forces within the ionic compound. CaOH is a slightly insoluble compound, the solubility of CaOH is approximately 0.189 g/100 mL of water at 20п‚°. Ethical Review Of The 1971 Ford Pinto Matthew Perezluha Paper #1 Business Ethics/MGMT 368 September 6, 2014 Ethical Review of the 1971 Ford Pinto In the mid to late 1960 s American automobile manufacturing was being dominated by Japanese imports. These imports, smaller in size than the domestic vehicles at the time, offered an economical and dependable alternative to what American automobiles offered. In order to remain competitive with these Japanese imports Ford chief executive officer Lee Iacoca instructed the Ford manufacturing company to come up with a vehicle for the 1971 sales year to compete with these Japanese imports. The normal time for design and production for a new vehicle line is 43 months but Iacoca ordered the process to be reduced to 25 months in order to compete. The timeline was met but a rear end impact study was not conducted until after the car was already on sales lots. Drawn to the relatively inexpensive price for a vehicle at the time, Lily Gray purchased a 1972 Ford Pinto. This is where the production flaw of the Pinto was first revealed. Gray was traveling with 13 year old Richard Grimshaw on the highway when she had to slow to avoid a broke down vehicle. Also trying to avoid the broke down vehicle a Ford Galaxy traveling at approximately 50 miles per hour rear ended the Pinto. Almost immediately the Pinto burst into flames, both passengers had severe burns on their bodies, and later Lily Gray would pass away as a result of the burns from the crash. • 35. The Effects Of Music Education On Children s Brain... History Sings Good News for Musicians Historically, there has been a debate among educators and researchers whether music education plays a significant role in a child s brain development, intelligence quotient, social development and overall success in life. Many believe the data has been unreliable because there is little to prove with absolute certainty that those who participate in music education were not just born smarter. On the other hand, substantial data has been collected in recent years that seems to clear up those questions of doubt. As America s children continue to show a significant drop in their annual test scores, while simultaneously demonstrating worsened behavior in school, answers are being sought from many angles. Suggested reasons for the deteriorating behavior include a lack of boundaries at home, attention seeking, an absence of positive role models at home, low self esteem and family breakdown. (Townsend, 2013) While there are many contributing factors to these heart breaking realities, I will present how simply providing regular music lessons can be pivotal for a child. The diminishing importance our culture is placing on the benefits of music education is impacting our nation s children by limiting their potential in academic achievement, social development, and overall well being, but we can resolve this problem in part by raising awareness about this vital issue. #1 Confidence Created Building a child s confidence and self esteem ... • 36. Upbringing And Teenage Aggression Upbringing and teenage aggression. Aggression is a complex issue to contextualise, as it can mean both hostile, attacking behaviour and verbal behaviour with intent to cause harm. However, aggression may also be reactionary in response to environmental factors. Teenage aggression arises from negative environmental influences during upbringing. The roles of peers, family and media shape these environmental influences which include: bullying, physical abuse, domestic violence, and violent video games. Peer relations play a major part in the social development and social upbringing of children at school. However, bullying during schooling years is an environmental factor that causes an increase in teenage aggression, especially after an adverse event. Studies conducted by Roland and IdsГёe (2001) demonstrate that being victimised by bullying causes increases in teenage aggression, especially that of reactive aggression. Reactive aggression is regarded as a frustrating or provoking event occurring to the individual, the individual may then display aggressive behaviour while they are angry. While this behaviour is generally short lived, an investigation into the effects of long term bullying by Sharp, Thompson, Arora, (2000) revealed that the most common negative reactions to long term bullying was irritability which was linked to higher levels of stress and aggression. This study shows that if children are bullied throughout their schooling life they may be at higher risk of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Humans since their very first existence have been in a big struggle against the nature. However, they shape the nature to suffice their needs and in essence adapt themselves accordingly into the conditions given by the Mother Nature. Over time nature has resisted to this human endeavor in every possible way it can and tried not to surrender humans. No matter how strong this resistance is; humans somehow found a way to break it down with their inborn skills that they managed to develop in time. Him doing this unraveled something much worse and is what led him to his banishment, so if you think about it, maybe fate did bring him to this terrible ending, but how can we be for sure because he did make these decisions himself. Jocasta and Laius were the two to blame for believing in such a thing and leaving their child to die a terrible death, only to come back and have the prophecy happen anyways. Recrystallization Of Naphthalene Lab Report Experiment 4: Recrystallization of Pure Phthalic Acid, Benzoic Acid, and Naphthalene Charles Nyberg Gilbert Immanuel and Rachel Zigelsky Mussie Gide Introduction Chemical experiments are often described, when they are finished, by the yield or recovery of the target product or solid. Also melting point can be tested to determine purity in a compound. Most times these chemicals are not completely pure so they can be recrystallized to remove the impurities. The technique of recrystallization learned and utilized in this lab works best to remove contaminates from nonvolatile organic solids.1 A solventis used that dissolves the solid at room temperature and then the impurities can be removed via pipette or other simplified removal process. When all impurities are dissolved and removed, a lattice or an ordered structure in the form of crystals is able to be collected and observed. Some substances cannot be recrystallized with only one solvent. Therefore, two solvents, or solvent pairs, can help dissolve the substance at boiling point only and not room temperature.2 Solvent pairs are able to be dissolved into each other but not anything else effectively. One part of the pair is used to prevent dissolving at room temperature and the other half is used to help dissolve at boiling point. All the Jurors believe the young man is guilty, but when they are seated they decide to vote. All the Jurors vote guilty... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, the old man who lived beneath the young man and father was testifying to feel important, and even though he heard I m gonna kill you, that can be taken out of context. With this said the 5th Juror changes his vote to not guilty, and the vote is nine to three in favor of guilty. After all the statements, they vote again, and this time jurors 5, 8, 9, and 11 vote not guilty, and the deliberation continues. After Juror 8 questions the old man who suffered a stroke and could only walk slowly, he stated he got to the door in 15 seconds and saw the boy run downstairs . Juror 8 is not convinced and decides to recreate the scene and concludes it takes longer than 15 seconds to reach the door. Juror 3 became defensive . Another vote is taken and now is six to six votes. Then Juror 8 brings up the possibility that the defendant unable to name / identify the movie he watched because of the emotional distress he was going through being accused to be a murder. Another discussion is how the defendant would have made the stab in to his father since the defendant is 5 7 and his father 6 2. They conclude that the young man has very little experience on how to use a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. The Ontological And Epistemological Theory 3.1Introduction Kumar (2014) defines research methodology as the process used to collect data and information for the purpose of analysis and decision making. This chapter will discuss the philosophical foundations of the research which will explain the ontological and epistemological stance underpinning the study. It discusses the mixed method design and the specific qualitative and quantitative methods adopted and how these challenges were resolved. 3.2Research paradigm Corbetta (2003) defined paradigm as the perception adopted by researchers to inspire and direct a given science. Similarly, Guba and Lincoln (1994) noted that paradigms shape research in terms of reality (ontology), knowledge (epistemology) and methods of gaining ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tolk (2012) added that the positivist approach is characterized by control, replication and hypothesis testing. These two methods were used to identify the opinions provided by interviewees. A constructivism approaches to research According to Bryman (2012), a constructivism approach is an ontological position that asserts that social actors are continually accomplishing social phenomena and their meanings. This approach assists the researcher to present a particular version of social reality, rather than one that can be regarded as definitive. 3.4Qualitative vs. Quantitative study To achieve the research purpose, the study employed an extensive research to collect accurate data and provide elaborate and descriptive data on the governance of sports in Malaysia. According to Creswell (2013), a quantitative study involves the use of statistical and mathematical computations to analyze data obtained from the research while a qualitative study uses non numerical methods to gain an understanding of a phenomenon. A quantitative study allows the researcher to compare the various variables derived from the study while qualitative study enables the researcher to use primary sources to obtain data for the research. These two methods were used collectively to provide a suitable representation of the whole population under consideration and also provide comparative data ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. Evolution Of A Large Mammal s Life Cycles Fossils are considered to be evolutionary markers that records a lineages of creatures across time providing a distinct way to compare different species. When Darwin set forth on a journey to the Galapagos Islands, he discovered many aspects of evolution. During his expedition, he discovered the fossils of creatures which closely resembled the modern armadillos. At that time, Darwin did not possess any tools or resources to predict the phylogenetic lineages and the evolutionary history of the armadillos. However, using modern day science and techniques like DNAand protein sequencing, it is now possible to better understand the relationships between different organisms. Furthermore, by observing the early developmental (embryonic) stages of a large mammals life cycles it is possible to indicate the relationship of the mammals with other mammals6. The combination of these methods may lead us to determine the phylogenetic position of armadillos Dasypodidae and other related organisms, such as anteaters and sloths. Armadillos evolutionary history has been a subject of many controversies and has been revised multiple times. Nevertheless, new developments in sequencing have allowed us to better understand the evolutionary relations using the DNA and proteins found in the fossils. By the use of these techniques, we are able to see the points of similarities among different species of armadillos. Furthermore, we can produce a phylogenetic tree to see the divergence of ...
