Aristotelian Perspectives on Social Ethics Essay
Aristotelian Perspectives on Social Ethics
I examine the philosophical perspectives of Aristotle on issues of medical ethics and on his social
ethics in general, including the moral issues of abortion, euthanasia, and other issues of social
ethics such as the issue of cloning. I have chosen the domain of applied ethics as viewed from the
Aristotelian point of view precisely because certain issues have been virtually unexamined by
scholars. I shall direct attention to certain treatises of the Aristotelian corpus such as On the History
of Animals, On the Generation of Animals, On the Soul, The Nicomachean Ethics and The Politics.
My main objective is to provide a more systematic account of the Aristotelian perspectives on the

We learn about the Pythagorean views on marriage and procreation from Iamblichus (BII, 211
212) who indicates that a man should take the best of care for bringing a child into the world
considering both the time and the way this should happen. What is more important, however, is
to relate their views on procreation to their theory of the immortality of the soul. After death the
soul disappears like a dream and dwells in a spiritual heavenly world until it reappears cleansed in
a new birth. (2) The soul keeps only the fragmented happy moments of each of its cycles on an
earthly life and will conclude its dream in the heavenly world, which is interrupted by its visitations
(reincarnations) on earth. Thus, it is evident that for the Pythagoreans and, as result, the Hippocratic
tradition, abortion would be morally unacceptable, since it stops this journey of the soul the
incorporeal part of the human body towards its ultimate enlightenment, i.e. its relation to the divine.
After all, such cases of bloody events like abortions, were seen as possible sources of ritual
impurity. It is also noteworthy that such a view on abortion would relate to the conservative
approach to abortion according to which the fetus has full moral status which implies that its right
to life must be

Essay on Human Nature and the Opposing Forces That Redeem It
Human Nature and the Opposing Forces That Redeem It
The Federalist Papers provide priceless insight into the spirits of both human government and
human nature. In fact, The Federalist Papers repeatedly acknowledge a basic truth of human
existence: humans are naturally selfish, hostile, and full of such characteristics that hinder the
continuation of peaceful, harmonious existence. The corruption of the human race permeates even
the strongest governments, as history has shown time and again. Ironic as it is, governments must
take precautions to guard themselves, even from their very own members, from the very thing that
all governments are meant to remedy: the shortcomings of human nature. The means by which The
Federalists ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Later, Madison expounds on this idea:
As there is a degree of depravity in mankind which requires a certain degree of circumspection and
distrust, so there are other qualities in human nature which justify a certain portion of esteem and
confidence. Republican government presupposes the existence of these qualities in a higher degree
than any other form (339).
Madison markedly declares that the republican form of government is the optimal instrument for
suppressing the flaws of human nature and for bringing forth those qualities in man that render him
supreme over all forms of life. Furthermore, Madison advocates republican government as the
precise remedy for the impending situation that was becoming more and more urgent in 1787.
Nonetheless, the fact remains that any government formed by man will be imperfect. Madison
states in paper ten, As long as the reason of man continues fallible, and he is at liberty to exercise it,
different opinions will be formed (123). Furthermore, A zeal for different opinions concerning
religion,...government, and many other points;...an attachment to different leaders ambitiously
contending for pre eminence and power; or to persons whose fortunes have been interesting to the
human passion, have divided mankind into parties (124). The latent causes of faction are thus sown
in the nature of man (124). Hence, men will always

it and succeed. Dean was one of the most popular entertainers of all time. He was famous for his

Dino Paul Crocetti. Dean was born to an Italian father, Gaetano, and an Italian American mother,
Angela Crocetti. Dean s father was an Italian from Montesilvano, in Abruzzo. His affectionate
grandparents origins are believed to also be from Abruzzo even if it is not clearly known. When
Dean was growing up he did have an older brother named Bill. Dean did only speak Italian until
he started school. Dean attended Grant Elementary School in Steubenville, Ohio. Dean was
ridiculed for his broken English and did not speak any English at all until he was five. He spoke
an old Abruzzi Italian dialect. When Dean was sixteen years old he dropped out of high school in

A Mapmaker s Dream By James Cowan
A Mapmaker s Dream, by James Cowan, is about Fra Mauro, a monk who lived in medieval
times pursuing to make a perfect map of the world, without traveling outside the monastery he
resided in. Because he is a monk, Mauro had to stay in his monastery for religious reasons, as he
would upset god if he did. Travelers came and visited Mauro to tell their stories of adventures,
which Mauro keeps into account. In this book, map making comes up a lot, as well as monastic
education and Mauro s acquisition of knowledge of his map. This book accurately portrays Fra
Mauro s map making making the last greatest circle medieval map, the acquisition of monastic

Living under God was one of the priorities to a monk, and Mauro shows traits that show he was
living under god. He said that his training as a monk led him to his religious life, and he was

Mapmaker s Dream when Fra Mauro does not want to travel, for fear that he would upset God.
Similarly, in the book A Life for God: The Medieval Monastery, by William Lace, the main piece
that all monks lived under was something called the Benedictine rule. This rule mapped out the
work and pray for an everyday monk. For Fra Mauro, he had times where he focused on his map
making, which was his work, but also spent a lot of time focusing on his religion because being a

and independent supportive living options to seniors in the community. After a history of high
occupancy rates, stable clientele and profitable operations the establishment is now going through a
period of low profitability. After analyzing the costing system of the company and designing a new
pricing model with the purpose of remaining as profitable as in the past while continuing to attract

region suggests that studio prices are at least 21% lower and one bedroom suite prices are at least
40% lower than the competition in the new pricing model. Comparison with the general market
suggests similar findings. MAIN REPORT
In May 2006, Westmount Retirement Residence was having very low profitability. Its very simple
pricing model essentially charged each resident the same price per month regardless of their needs.
This was due to a change in the patientsВґ demands. In the past, patientsВґ demands were similar
and therefore the companyВґs pricing and costing system was appropriate. But changes in the
population and in the requirements of the residents caused that the pricing model remained out of
date and the costing system inappropriate. One of the problems observed when analyzing the
companyВґs situation was that due to the costing system used it was not possible to have a clear
picture of how much each of the services offered were costing. Consequently, it was clearly very
difficult being able to define a pricing system that will give the shareholders the desired profit. The
first step was to design a new costing system adequate for the company

Examples Of Class Conflict
Chapter 3
Class Conflicts
Class conflict refers to the struggle of different sections of a society regarding the economic status
of its people. The major element of the class conflict is the inequality among the different sections
of society keeping in view distribution and consumption of natural resources.
To understand this term more effectively we must keep in mind Marx s structure of society in
relation to its major classes, and the struggle between them as a driving force to bring a change in
this social structure. Marx theory doesn t bring an equilibrium or it can t be regarded as a
consensus theory. In fact in the class conflicts the social structure itself was an ingredient in the
struggle of classes.
The key to understand above discussed ideas we must know what a class actually is? According to
Karl Marx a class is defined by the ownership of property and social status. Such ownership
provides a person the power to eliminate others from the property and to use it for personal
purposes. In relation to property and status there are three great classes of society: the bourgeoisie,
landowners and the proletariat. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

bourgeois includes the merchants as they align themselves with the powerful and oppress the

characters into separate socio economic classes the writer engages them in the struggle for power

Foreign military and economic intervention by European imperial powers created greater instability
in China. Western powers, through an unequal treaty system, engaged in legal imperialism that
gave them protection through special rights and privileges that gradually reduced Chinese
tradesmen to a subordinate role. Opium trade, fueled by Britain, drained China of silver, and
drove up the price of silver. Silver was the standard payment for taxes, but rising prices made tax
payments an economic burden for peasants. The First Opium War, 1839 to 1842, resulted in the
defeat of the Chinese and the signing of the Treaty of Nanjing. The treaty forced ceded Hong Kong
to the British and open treaty ports to the British along the southern coast providing Britain with
greater access to foreign trade. The emerge of western competition in China threaten the livelihood
of people throughout the country and weakened China s economic power in the region overall.
New trade routes, commodities, and the introduction of western business practices affected many
people in various parts of the country.
China, during the mid nineteenth century, also experienced its own internal political instability.

Examples Of Envy In Beowulf
Unferth s Unprecedented Utopia
Robert Kraft once said, Envy and jealousy are incurable diseases. In the novel or epic poem,
Beowulf: A New Telling, Robert Nye sets the themes of this novel as envy and revenge and reveals
that jealousy often leads to self destruction and that people who are vengeant sometimes end up
only avenging the very people that they admire. Beowulf, a Geat warrior offers help to the Danes
when a monster attacks the Danish settlers repeatedly. When Unferth attempts to criticize Beowulf,
his envy takes over and he starts to quest revenge on Beowulf. Unferth s rude and flaw finding
qualities are fueled by his jealousy, which in turn makes him revengeful.
In this epic, Unferth represents the theme of envy and never sways from protecting his esteem. For
instance, when Unferth, full of mead insults Beowulf when introduced to the Danes, Unferth jeers,

America s Failure to Join the League of Nations Essay
America entered World War One in 1917. America and the President, Woodrow Wilson, were
horrified by the destruction that had taken place in such a humane part of the world. The only
way to avoid a repeat of such a disaster was to create an international committee whose purpose
was to prevent wars by maintaining world peace. This would be the task of the League of Nations.
Woodrow Wilsonwas the creator of the League of Nations in his Fourteen Points Speech. This was
ironic because the United Statesfailed to join the League of Nations. This can be seen in the US

William Faulkner s As I Lay Dying
Isolation of Characters in As I Lay Dying As I Lay Dying was an extremely successful novel
written by an American author named William Faulkner in 1930. Each of the characters in the
novel are given traits that are expressed throughout the story to reveal their true identities. Faulkner
utilizes first person point of view that shifts from one character to another to allow the reader to
enter the mind of each character and experience their inner thoughts. All the characters live very
similar lives however we can see the complete isolation and the breakdown of the relationships
throughout the novel. The three main characters that really contribute to the deteriorating family
relationships are Darl, Jewel, and Anse. First off is Anse Bundren, the head of the household,
husband to Addie for over thirty years, and father to Darl, Jewel, Vardaman, and Dewey Dell.
Anse is lazy and selfish, and relies greatly on his family and friends. Anse s constant selfishness
is an important factor in his alienation from the rest of the family. For example, the journey to
Jefferson to bury his dead wife was a promise he made to Addie, but during the trip he is only
concerned with bettering himself. Despite all the turmoil along the way, and the fact that Addie s
body is rotting Anse s main objective of the trip to Jefferson is acquiring a new set of teeth. Addie

The School Year Of My Life
It was my sophomore year, and I was once again the new girl in school, the one who was taken
advantage of. It had been one of the craziest school year of my life. Now as I sit back and think
on it I am grateful that it happened. My eyes were opened, I experienced new feelings, and
changed in big way in such a relatively short matter of time. This all came from what I thought was
love. It was exactly 1:00 pm on a Tuesday, when I broke down in tears in the hallway of my high
school, nobody blinked twice about it. I had never felt a painin my heart this great before at this
point in my life. It was like my heart was made out of glass, and it became broken, shattering into
millions of pieces. This wasn t a mental type of pain. I felt each shattering piece of glass fall in
my chest, it was momentarily paralyzing. I had just left my class, roaming the packed halls, of
the place I called Hell. Animals running wild because it is feeding time, and from the outside it
appears as if they had not eaten in months when I saw him. My heart started to beat as fast as
humming bird wings but this time is was not beating in love so each flutter was more painful
than the last. Emotions that I had been holding in, hiding from the world had decided that in this
moment they were going to come to surface it was like I was a wolf howling in pain at the sight
of him. So I did what the only thing I knew how to do at that time, I ran. Luckily I attended a

The Pros And Cons Of Steroids In Major League Baseball
In Major League Baseball, numerous players have put up tremendous statistics and record
breaking numbers. There are a great amount of players in the league that have done this
naturally, however it is not uncommon to see star players get caught taking performance
enhancing drugs or steroids. Steroid use in baseball has been an issue since the earliest days of
the game, and can be seen very frequently in players today. Jose Canseco was a star hitter in the
major leagues, who had admitted to steroid later in his career. Canseco once estimated that 85%
of other players were also taking performance enhancing drugs. Though that estimate is not
proven, there are still many players today that are taking these steroids, and it needs to remain an
issue in the eyes of the MLB. Taking these drugs not only promotes the risk of significant side
effects and health problems to the player consuming them, but it makes changes to the game
itself as well. The way the game is being played has changed over time due to this issue, and
players are receiving advantages that other players are not. Overall, these illegal drugs are unfair
to other players in the game and simply are not safe, and should never become legal in the league.
Throughout the history of major league baseball we have seen countless astonishing hitters come
pass through, some putting up record breaking numbers, at times too good to be true. Barry Bonds,
known as the homerun king was able to put up an amazing total of 73 home runs in 2001. The
very next season, he continued to present his skill with a .370 batting average. Between 1999 and
2007, Bonds stats were shocking, hitting 351 home runs, winning four national league MVP
awards, and racking up 780 RBI s, 69 stolen bases, and just over one thousand hits. Alex Rodriguez,
better known as A rod is another huge name when talking about the greatest hitters in baseball.
For nine seasons out of Rodriguez s twenty two season career, 8.5% of the balls he would put
into play were home runs. By the end of his lengthy career, he was able to collect 698 home runs,
over two thousand RBI s and runs scored, with over three thousand hits. He was also named All
Star fourteen times. With numbers like these, it is hard to

Fast Food Is All About Convenience
Driving down the highway with three squirmy children in the back seat, a balmy 86В°, and a
chorus of ВЁI have to pee s!ВЁ and ВЁI m super hungry! Can we eat?ВЁ. When there is a
McDonalds two blocks from the highway exit, or 10 miles away; is there actually a competition of
which will be more populated? People wouldn t come from miles and miles around to go to a fast
foodrestaurant if it was out of their way. Fast food is all about convenience, and that is why
location is one of the most important standards to bring in the restaurants consumers. However,
sometimes fast food corporations take the process a step too far and use the location to market their
product inappropriately to children and families. Consumers should not be used as pawns in
marketingschemes based off of population, highway proximity, consumer demographics, and
contiguity to areas with children.
Of course it is known that it s a necessity for restaurant corporations to choose their location to
better market their product. Without being able to choose, it would be difficult to bring in
consumers, or make as much money as they do. Some small buisness and restaurant owners
actually believe that the location of a building can either make or break it. According to Allen

Cultural Diversity In College
It s important for students to have a cultural diversity in a college because it helps them to keep an
open mind and learn about the different cultures around them instead of being kept in a bubble of
isolation. Also, it connects people that comes from different backgrounds which can help them
grow their minds when it comes to learning about a tradition that comes from someone else s culture
. This can be able to open up new opportunities such as careers either within their area or overseas.
Another thing is that it helps the students become self aware with decisions the students might
make based on a certain problem that the students might face in their life. Culture diversity not only

Ethnic Conflicts In Sudan
According to Africa News, 45 people have died as a result of ethnic fighting, The attack against
the Ruop was carried out by the Pakem fighters in retaliation for the attacks that were carried out
by a group of Ruop youths. The fighting was very heavy, it left more than 45 people dead and
many more injured. The military has since been deployed from the state capital to try and stop the
violence that has seen the burning down of houses and property.
These tribal clashes are not new in Sudan for example, the Ma alya and Rizergat ethnic groups
had multiple clashes throughout 2014 that turned into an all out war in the oil rich region of
Darfur. This left a lot of people dead and many more injured from both ethnic groups. The conflicts
were about land rights and shared resources have lasted for more than ten years. The conflict in
South Sudan has seen people flee Sudan into neighboring countries and Sudan itself. There have
been nine big refugee camps that have been created but to According to Rev. Michael Didi, the
fighting follows them even in the refugee camps. And because of this, each ethnic group are put
separately even in the camps.
This ethnic fighting is not confined to Sudan, almost everyone will remember the genocide in
Rwanda where members of the Hutu majority murdered about 800,000 Tutsi minorities. Ordinary
people were incited by local officials to take arms against there neighbor. The brutality spread
throughout the country with shocking speed, no one spared

There s a certain Slant of light by Emily Dickinson is a poem describing the speaker s observation

Why Did The Aurora Borealis Exist
The Aurora Borealis
Despite a distance of 93 million miles, the sun provides us with heat, energy, and the mystical
Aurora Borealis. There are many beliefs for why the Aurora Borealis exists; the Inuit believe that
the spirits of their ancestors can be seen in the Aurora Borealis. Norse Mythology states that the
Aurora Borealis is a fire bridge to the sky built by the gods. But because of science, we now know
that the sun causes the Aurora Borealis.
What Causes the Aurora Borealis?
The surface of the sun is worlds away. But on that surface, immense storms rage across the surface.
These storms hurtle gusts of charged solar particles across the abyss of space. If the Earth happens
to be in the path of the particles, the particles collide with molecules and atoms in the Earth s
atmosphere. These atoms become stimulated by the sun s particles and light up. But what happens
to cause the atoms to light up is where things start to get interesting. Atoms are made up of a
nucleus and a cloud of electrons circling this nucleus. When the sun charged particles hit the atoms
in the Earth s atmosphere; energy is transferred to the electrons, causing them to move further away
from the nucleus. But as those electrons lose energy, they move closer to... Show more content on

Medical application of RFID for patient health care enhancement is therefore the focal point of this
study. The emergency room is the most complicate and busiest place in a hospital. A patient goes
missing and leaves registration record but no clinical record is a frequent scenario in an emergency

There is a case of a man who would not eat unless his food was stolen, so a servant would take
pains to hide the man s food in such a manner that the man could steal it and eat rather than die
from starvation. One woman was so afflicted with the compulsion to steal that she would not
hesitate in stealing offerings and tithes from church baskets at the altar. An otherwise upstanding
woman was such a helpless thief that she would steal bread from her friends dinner table if there
was nothing else more valuable to be had. There is even record of a clergyman whose
kleptomania was so notorious that the Church eventually had to cut ties with him. A British lady,
presumably of high society, was prosecuted for stealing handkerchiefs from a clothing store; the
Times which reported on the case insinuated that recurrent and compulsive theft of cheap items
from shops is quite common among the ladies of high society in London. This behavior was so
well known that family members arranged a well coordinated effort with drivers and shopkeepers
to keep tabs on their thieving ladies and to make sure that the shopkeepers got reimbursed.
Sometimes the thief herself would be the one writing the check that the shopkeepers would
inevitably send to their home. One of the causes of kleptomania appears to be general insanity. The
behavior is so compulsive, that people who are otherwise upstanding and moral in

Research Paper On Breakfast At Tiffany s
Breakfast at Tiffany s is truly one of the most famous classical films. This movie centers around
a chic and party loving girl, Holly Golightly. Throughout the movie, we can see that Holly is all
about dressing up and she loves to look put together given any situation. She was an iconic
image of the 20th century, ranging from her high chignon to her little black dress and pearls.
Her little black dress was not just a fashion statement; it showed that Holly can present her face
to the world with confidence and is ready to take on anything. She defied women s roles because
she was free spirited and did not (at first) emotionally depend on a man. Audrey Hepburn, the
actress who played Holly Golightly, gave Hollywood a new on screen personality. This film
certainly gave Hepburn a new persona; she is famous for her role as Holly and will be
remembered as playing the New York City call girl. When Breakfast at Tiffany s came out in the
60s, women s roles were simplistic and involved doing household chores. They would leave

This film shows the message of the best advice is to stop fighting it and embrace the fact that you

will be many who miss this opportunity as they feel a false sense of security operating in the belief

them. This film uses fancy quotes or catch phrases, with a strong act of violence in acting around

Hitler s View Of The Jewish People Essay
From 1939 to 1945 the world saw actions and atrocities unparalleled in the War against Germany,
the legacies of such actions we are still seeing today. Perhaps the most notable atrocity that was
born from this war was the persecution of Jewish people in Germany and around Europe and the
corresponding murder of up to 6 million Jewish people . When Adolf Hitlers National Socialist
party seized power on January 30, 1933, there were approximately 525,000 Jewish people living in
Germany, less than one percent of the population. Throughout the years leading up to the official
start of World War Two the Jewish people were treated harshly and condemned for no other reason
than the fact that they were Jewish, in 1935 the Nuremberg laws furthered this condemnation by
defining what it meant to be a Jew, deprived Jewsof German citizenship and legally prohibited
them from a variety of occupations. Families were split apart and many families fled as far as
they could have from the horrors of a country they once called home. Hitler s view of the Jewish
people is highlighted in his publication Mein Kampf :
A Jew is and remains a typical parasite, a sponger who like a noxious bacillus keeps spreading as
soon as a favorable medium invites him. And the effect of his existence is also like that of
spongers: wherever he appears, the host people die out. The Jew today is the great agitator for the
complete destruction of Germany.

The two scenes were beautiful in a natural, traditional and exotic way, which was different from
Yokohama s beauty of modernity in picture 2 and 4. Yokohama was one of the seven treaty ports

America s steam and coal warships, Japan had no choice but ended its close country policy and

Church Service Reflection
In June 2016, I was blessed with the opportunity to serve on a mission trip to Haiti. While this
whole experience was outside of my cultural norms, I found that the church service was
specifically unlike anything I had ever experienced before. The church located on the campus of
Mission of Hope: Haiti, was constructed in the form of a crucifix. I honestly had no idea what to
expect from the Sunday morning church service. Before the church service began, my friend and
her family made sure that I took my own bible and journal to church, since the message was spoken
in Haitian Creole.
I knew that we were in Haiti serving those who were living in poverty, but to my surprise the
Haitians who attended the church service were dressed in very nice clothing. I believe this was
the biggest stereotype going into the church service. After spending time in nearby villages and
interacting with the Haitian people, I did not think they would have the means to have such nice
clothing. I love that throughout the week they wear casual clothing and on Sundays wear their
best clothing. That reminded me a lot about how I was raised. As a child, I always had to wear a
skirt or dress to church. This younger kids reminded me of myself.
Enriching awareness This experience allowed me to understand the universal Church better. It was
such a cool thing to experience the worship that was included in the service. The songs were sung
in Creole, but I could sing the words in English because I was able to

The Strain Theory is when society puts pressure on to another individual to commit a crime in order
to achieve their goals (Merton, 1957). Example; when young people feel pressure to own the
latest phones or clothes were their pressure is form their peers this can result in criminal activity
in order to relieve the strain. Both theories explain crime from a social point of view (The Social
Learning Theory shows how individuals can be influenced by those around them). In this way
individuals, can commit crimes due to observing their peers also committing

I Have An Assignment For You
I have an assignment for you that will be more challenging than pressing up into handstand or
putting both legs behind your head. In fact, you have to be a real yogi to accept. Are you ready?
Here it is: Be nice all day, from the moment you wake up until the moment you fall asleep. Be
kind and generous in your thoughts, speech actions and feelings. If it sounds easy and you don t
believe me, try giving it a shot before you shrug it off.
Because in between traffic jams, travel delays, dirty dishes, barking dogs, screaming babies,
bills to pay, laundry piles and a thousand other things that line your to do list, it can be easy to get
annoyed or frustrated with the world around you. Take time to reflect on your day so far. If you
snapped at anyone ... judged someone harshly (including yourself) ... honked your horn in
frustration ... or harbored negativity of any kind ... then you failed the test already. See? It s not
as easy as it seems to be genuinely nice all day in every way. In fact, it might just be impossible.
After more than fifteen years of a steady Ashtanga Yogapractice, I now measure my success in the
practice of yoga by how long I m able to keep my emotional center spacious enough to be
genuinely kind. Trust me, it s almost easy to get on the mat and bend and twist your body in
comparison. And it is much harder to maintain a kind and generous heart in the face of adversity
and stress.
But the real yoga happens off the mat.
The purpose of every yoga pose is really to

Analysis Of Daniel Defoe s The Life And Adventures Of...
People have always wanted more power, wealth, or food than what was needed. This desire
causes greed in society. Greed in a culture or society will cause the destruction of that society.
From Adam and Eve consuming of the fruit from the tree of knowledge to the failure of
companies and businesses in today s society, the desire for wants instead of needs has a negative
impact (Clark par. 5). In 1719, Daniel Defoehad written a novel in which a main theme is greed.
In Daniel Defoe s, The Life and Adventures of Robinson Crusoe, the protagonist, Robinson
Crusoe, begins a journey packed with many misfortunes all over the world, caused by his desire
to have more than he needs. Although he has a life filled with misfortune, Crusoe is able to
persevere through the trails placed before him by humbling himself and properly classifying his
wants and needs. Greed will cause downfalls and trials but humility will aid in recovering after
the downfalls. In The Life and Adventures of Robinson Crusoe, before the many misfortunes
begin, Crusoe lived a good life in the upper station of low life. His family was not rich, yet they
were not poor, they prayed to have neither poverty nor riches (Defoe 2). Throughout his life, Crusoe
s father had taught him:
the middle station of life was calculated for all kind of virtues and all kind of enjoyments; that
peace and plenty were the handmaids of a middle fortune; that temperance, moderation, quietness,
health, society, all agreeable

Barack Obama s Presidential Debates
During the Democratic presidential debates on Tuesday, frontrunner Hillary Clinton was backed by
her fellow Democratic contenders, most notably, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I VA), who remarked in
response to Clinton s e mail flap, Let me say something that may not be great politics, but I think
the secretary is right. The American people are sick and tired of hearing about your damn emails.
http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/10/14/us usa election democrats idUSKCN0S70B920151014
This was an early warm moment between the contenders, but the debate turned crisp at times while
the contenders focused on an array of issues deeply impacting Americans, including the economy,
criminal justice, the environment, among other leading issues.
However, despite the pass that Clinton received in the presence of her political peers and media
inquisitors, Clinton s characterization of the e mail investigation as benign involving Clinton s
candidacy may be a red herring. In the matter of government whistleblowers, former NSA
contractor Edward Snowden and former NSA executive Thomas Drake faced charges of violations
of the Espionage Act ( the Act ).
Snowden, the former CIA employee and government contractor who in 2013 leaked classified
information from the NSA, created the tempest during this administration under the Espionage Act
and fled the country and remains at large presumably residing in Russia..

airways, mucus overproduction, airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR) and eventual progression to
airway remodeling. As the most common type of asthma, Allergic asthma is characterized by
irreversible obstruction and chronic inflammation of the airways.

The use of animal models of asthma has dramatically increased our understanding of the underlying
mechanisms of allergic asthma. The importance of Th2 cytokines have been highlighted by
numerous studies in mice. Specifically, Th2 lymphocytes produce various proinflammatory
cytokines that have important roles in the development of allergic asthma, including a unique
profile of interleukin (IL) 4, IL 5 and IL 13. What s more, they can also induce secretion of
allergen‑specifc immunoglobulin (Ig) E, chemokines , and eosinophils, as well as mucus
production.
Ovalbumin Induced Asthma Model
Mouse models for allergic asthma have been developed that depend on exposure to environmental
factors, such as ovalbumin (OVA), house dust mite (HDM), cockroach, birch pollen, and Alternaria
alternata, among which the most extensively used one is the OVA induced

Context, Violence and Leadership in Cormac McCarthy s...
Cormac McCarthy s Blood Meridian does a marvelous job of highlighting the violent nature of
mankind. The underlying cause of this violent nature can be analyzed from three perspectives, the
first being where the occurrence of violence takes place, the second man s need to be led and the
way their leader leads them, and lastly whether violence is truly an innate and inherent
characteristic in man. Cormac McCarthyonce said, I think the notion that the species can be
improved in some way, that everyone can live in harmony is a really dangerous idea. (Overview)
This quote leaves us with the impression that humanity as a whole is innately violent, and we will
explore this idea by examining Blood Meridian. This paper consists of three... Show more content

The question to ask is what caused the West to be such a formidable location? The first theory to
explore is that which states the land Blood Meridian took place in, Southwest America and
Mexico, caused an absence of responsibility, which then caused the violent acts. In Blood
Meridian massacres occur almost daily, yet civilization is neither built up nor hurt because there
is no civilization to break down. (Kiefer) At the beginning of the book, The Kid has been brought
to Captain White to be interviewed for a spot in the company. Captain White exclaims to the Kid,
There is no government in Mexico. Hell, there s no God in Mexico. Never will be. (Blood
Meridian 36) While this statement may be the byproduct of racism on Captain White s part, there is
no doubt that some part of this statement holds true. On many occasions the gang of scalp hunters
engage in illegal behavior in Mexico and are met by little law enforcement. For three weeks the
gang of Americans make Chihuahua city theirs, feasting, drinking and whoring. It becomes so bad
that the locals write on walls of the city, Mejor Los Indios. This translates to, Better the Indians.
(Schopen) Of course the gang encountered little to no resistance during their three week takeover of
the city, proving the

Brewhouse Essay
This past Sunday I spent a few hours at the Port of Miami aboard Carnival s Vista cruise ship for
the release of four new beers that will be served aboard the Carnival Horizon. The new beers will
be served in Guy s Pig Anchor Bar B Que Smokehouse|Brewhouse. The restaurant will combine the
best of both worlds, a restaurant featuring BBQ developed by FoodNetwork star Guy Fieri and a
brewery whose beers are built around the smokey BBQ laden menu. The Brewhouse portion will
be under the control of Master Brewer Colin Presby who has spent the last couple of years
manning the Brewhouse aboard the Vista. Smokehouse|Brewhouse is a unique culinary concept

As part of the festivities, a firkin of the Farmhouse Ale was tapped by Carnival Vice President of
Beverage Operations Edward Allen. Out of the four, the Farmhouse was my favorite. It had just
enough barnyard funk to keep me coming back for more. The malts for the Smoked Porter are
smoked on board using the ships smoker. The smoke wasn t overpowering and I think it will
pair nicely with the smoked BBQ. The West Coast IPA is hopped with Simcoe, Amarillo, and
Centennial hops. While the aroma and taste of pine and citrus begin to blast your senses it
finishes with a malty backbone. The refreshing Toasted Amber Ale gives off notes of lite
caramel and biscuity malts. I m sure all four offerings will be welcomed with open arms aboard
the Horizon. While they are all tasty in their own right, I think the flavor profile was dialed back a
touch to appeal to a wider audience. Craft beer drinkers will be able to appreciate each beer while
folks new to craft will also be able to enjoy a freshly brewed craft beer with their BBQ

How Does The Impact Theory Of The Moon
There are many theories about the creation of the moon. However the currently favored theory is
often called the impact theory. This theory states that a large, Mars sized objects struck the Earth
with a glancing blow when it was young and molten. This impact caused matter to come off of the
Earth and get stuck in its orbit. The bits of Earththat blew off were pulled together into a stable orbit
and formed the Moon.
The Earth and Moon do have some similarities and differences that are explained by this theory.
The Moon, for example, does not have heavy materials like Earth does. One example of a heavy
material on Earth is the iron core. Earth has one, and the Moon does not. This is explained by the
timing of the impact. If the Moon hit the

Physics-Bridge Project Essay
Humans have tamed steel, stone, lumber, and even living vegetation, all in effort to reach the
people, places, and things that we desire. Although the concept of bridges is as simple as a tree
falling across a creek, bridge design and construction requires very serious ingenuity. Artists,
engineers, and architects pour vast resources into bridgeconstruction so that they can reshape our
daily environment for the better. When building bridges you ll need help from BATS which are
the key structural components of bridge construction such as beams, arches , trusses, and
suspensions. Various combinations of these four technologies make it possible for numerous
bridge designs, ranging from some bridges as simple as beam bridges, arch bridges,... Show more

The truss design, which is a variant of a triangle, creates both a very rigid structure and one that
transfers the load from a single point to a considerably wider area. After being used for 2000
years of architectural use, the arch continues to feature prominently in bridge designs. Its
semicircular structure elegantly distributes compression through its entire form and diverts weight
onto its two abutments, which are the components of the bridge that directly take on the pressure
being exerted onto the bridge. The tensional forces in arch bridges are virtually negligible. That
is because the natural curve of the arch and its ability to dissipate the force outward greatly
reduces the effects of tension on the underside of the arch. The greater the degree of curvature, the
greater the effects of tension on the underside of the bridge. If you build a big enough arch, the
tension will eventually overtake the support of the bridges natural structure. While there is a fair
amount in variety in arch bridge construction, the basic structure of every arch bridge is the same.
For example there is Roman, Baroque and Renaissance which are all architecturally different they
all have the same basic structure. It is the individual arch itself gives its namesake bridge its
strength. An arch made of stone doesn t need a mortar. In fact the ancient Romans built arch bridges
and aqueducts that are still standing today and are made

Feminism Definition Essay
What is feminism? The definition is often argued over by feminists and anti feminists. Feminists
believe that the expectations for women are far too high to be attainable for most they are
expected to be the perfect weight, the perfect height, the perfect everything in the eyes of society in
order to be seen as worth anything. Feminists believe that women are seen by society as less
powerful, less smart, simply less than men. Feminists also believe that feminismpromotes gender
equality, not misandry. They aim to fix this. Anti feminists, on the other hand believe that feminism
is women being obnoxious and putting themselves above men. They think feminism in 2015 in
unnecessary. Women already have the right to vote, what more could they possibly want? This
oppression is just one reason why feminism exists and in my opinion is extremely important in
today s world.
We so often hear people talk about their high expectations for women, we usually don t even give
it a second thought anymore. Society expects women to be thin but not too thin, be fit but not too
fit, be society s definition of beautiful . Whatever that is. Women are judged no matter what they
look like, how they dress, how they act. They are judged and it is fully accepted because it s so ...

Feminism promotes gender equality, not misandry. Feminism wants to protect the men that are
told they need to be emotionless robots with extremely buff bodies. Feminism wants to protect
the people who are neither male nor female who aren t represented in media or anywhere in
society. Feminism wants to protect people of all genders from the ridiculous standards society
sets for them. In the end, we are all just people. The fact that we are constantly told we have to do
and say and act like this, that, and whatever other thing simply because of our gender is (in my
opinion) completely

The Success Of Deng Xiao Ping s Impact On China
(Slide 1) From 1981 until the death of Deng Xiao Ping and the termination of Deng Era in 1997,
Deng Xiao Ping was the paramount leader of the People s Republic of China after Mao Zedong
s death in 1976. (Slide 2) The nature of Deng Xiao Ping and the period of the Deng Era came to
revolutionise China immensely and had the desire for progress and reform at any cost. Civil
rights, Economic reforms and International relations under Deng Era can be considered to
undermine the costs and benefits of Deng Xiaoping s modernisation of China. To seek further
information, a major focus questions was built, which is, to what extent, did Deng Xiao Ping have
a positive impact on China internally, economically and internationally after 1997? A hypothesis is
created to answer the question, that Deng Xiao Ping had a detrimental impact because he
dismissed civil rights in China internally, economically and internationally after 1997.
Furthermore, the costs of China s reform and progress had a greater role than the benefits during
the Deng Era. Therefore, the effects of the Deng Era, internally, economically and internationally
had a greater cost impact than benefits on China. Three focus questions were acquired for this
investigation. (Slide 3) Firstly, to determine the costs and benefits by Deng Xiaoping internally, I
ask, to what cost did Deng Xiao Ping improve China? What was the Tiananmen Square Massacre
and did it have an impact? We need to know about the Tiananmen Square Massacre. The

Analysis Of The Book The Heidi
Pirandellian Dark Comedy in Wendy Wasserstein s
The Heidi Chronicles
The main aim of this paper is to study Wendy Wasserstein s The Heidi Chronicles (1988) as a dark
comedy in the light of Pirandello s definition of dark comedy. The line between tragedy and comedy
is often thin and at times barely discernable. Certain playwrights have a gift for blurring this line,
which allows audiences to receive their message without often knowing if they should be laughing
at what appears to be a serious topic. Wendy Wasserstein(1950 2006) is one of the contemporary
female playwrights who makes use of dark comedy. She is an excellent example of the genre
dark comedy in the late twentieth century. She has won critical acclaim, Pulitzer Prizes and
numerous additional awards for her writing. Wendy Wasserstein was the first woman in history to
win the Pulitzer Prize as the author of an original play. In a 2001 Harper article on a new
generation of women playwrights, the first sentence reads When you think of female playwrights,
two words invariably come to mind: Wendy Wasserstein (334). Feminist Sally Burke writes that
the feminist playwrights who began their work in the 1970s, even those who won Obie Awards,
were virtually ignored except by scholars of feminist drama; this list includes Wasserstein (1). She
is one of the most important playwrights of our time, yet her work lacks the critical and scholarly
attention it deserves. Tragicomedy has been, in

Hollywood Film Design For Living
Design for Living (Ernst Lubitsch, 1933) presents a classic hollywood film style with a
relatable modern twisted narrative story. For the time, the film presents a slightly risque tale of
a woman struggling between loving two men as they comically fight over her throughout the
course of the film. Gilda Farrell (Miriam Hopkins) meets two men on a train, Tom Chambers
(Fredric March) and George Curtis (Gary Cooper). The film illustrates the creation of the trio s
friendship, as well as, a love triangle forms. The scene analysed for this essay deals with Gilda s
separation from the gentleman s agreement with Tom and George. Gilda accepts a marriage
proposal from Max Plunkett (Edward Everett Horton). This marriage does not truly make her happy

The discomfort in the character Gilda is apparent with the facial expressions she uses. The
character of Max is oblivious to the mental journey Gilda is experiencing within the scene. The
scene begins with the new couple entering the room, Max following Gilda as the maid closes the
door once they have fully entered. The next shot is a rather long conversation between the two
in which they stumble back and forth interacting with the surroundings. The use of point of
view, clarifying Gilda s suppressed feeling as it further progresses from shot to shot. Following
the sporadic movement of the characters, the blocking often swishy moves left and right as the
characters observe the various floral wedding gifts. Once the couple switches into the bedroom
setting, post Gilda reading the note and receiving the present from George and Tom, the tension
and diverse personalities of Max and Gilda truly shine through. Max slowly appears to notice the
change of attitude within the character of Gilda. When Gilda returns to the floral present cover
room, she kneels to clean up the fallen gift of her two past lovers. This high angle looking down,
reveals her submissive and innocent behaviors as she attempts to repair the plant. This recollection
of the plant pieces is symbolic towards her attempts to reconstruct her past with George and Tom.
This blocking delves into Gilda s

I have chosen the domain of applied ethics as viewed from the Aristotelian point of view precisely because certain issues have been virtually unexamined by scholars. I shall direct attention to certain treatises of the Aristotelian corpus such as On the History of Animals, On the Generation of Animals, On the Soul, The Nicomachean Ethics and The Politics. We learn about the Pythagorean views on marriage and procreation from Iamblichus (BII, 211 212) who indicates that a man should take the best of care for bringing a child into the world considering both the time and the way this should happen. What is more important, however, is to relate their views on procreation to their theory of the immortality of the soul. After death the soul disappears like a dream and dwells in a spiritual heavenly world until it reappears cleansed in a new birth. (2) The soul keeps only the fragmented happy moments of each of its cycles on an earthly life and will conclude its dream in the heavenly world, which is interrupted by its visitations (reincarnations) on earth. Thus, it is evident that for the Pythagoreans and, as result, the Hippocratic tradition, abortion would be morally unacceptable, since it stops this journey of the soul the incorporeal part of the human body towards its ultimate enlightenment, i.e. its relation to the divine. After all, such cases of bloody events like abortions, were seen as possible sources of ritual impurity. Essay on Human Nature and the Opposing Forces That Redeem It Human Nature and the Opposing Forces That Redeem It The Federalist Papers provide priceless insight into the spirits of both human government and human nature. In fact, The Federalist Papers repeatedly acknowledge a basic truth of human existence: humans are naturally selfish, hostile, and full of such characteristics that hinder the continuation of peaceful, harmonious existence. The corruption of the human race permeates even the strongest governments, as history has shown time and again. Ironic as it is, governments must take precautions to guard themselves, even from their very own members, from the very thing that all governments are meant to remedy: the shortcomings of human nature. Later, Madison expounds on this idea: As there is a degree of depravity in mankind which requires a certain degree of circumspection and distrust, so there are other qualities in human nature which justify a certain portion of esteem and confidence. Republican government presupposes the existence of these qualities in a higher degree than any other form (339). Madison markedly declares that the republican form of government is the optimal instrument for suppressing the flaws of human nature and for bringing forth those qualities in man that render him supreme over all forms of life. Furthermore, Madison advocates republican government as the precise remedy for the impending situation that was becoming more and more urgent in 1787. Nonetheless, the fact remains that any government formed by man will be imperfect. Madison states in paper ten, As long as the reason of man continues fallible, and he is at liberty to exercise it, different opinions will be formed (123). Furthermore, A zeal for different opinions concerning religion,...government, and many other points;...an attachment to different leaders ambitiously contending for pre eminence and power; or to persons whose fortunes have been interesting to the human passion, have divided mankind into parties (124). Each of the characters in the novel are given traits that are expressed throughout the story to reveal their true identities. Faulkner utilizes first person point of view that shifts from one character to another to allow the reader to enter the mind of each character and experience their inner thoughts. All the characters live very similar lives however we can see the complete isolation and the breakdown of the relationships throughout the novel. Now as I sit back and think on it I am grateful that it happened. My eyes were opened, I experienced new feelings, and changed in big way in such a relatively short matter of time. This all came from what I thought was love. It was exactly 1:00 pm on a Tuesday, when I broke down in tears in the hallway of my high school, nobody blinked twice about it. I had never felt a painin my heart this great before at this point in my life. It was like my heart was made out of glass, and it became broken, shattering into millions of pieces. • 18. The Pros And Cons Of Steroids In Major League Baseball In Major League Baseball, numerous players have put up tremendous statistics and record breaking numbers. There are a great amount of players in the league that have done this naturally, however it is not uncommon to see star players get caught taking performance enhancing drugs or steroids. Steroid use in baseball has been an issue since the earliest days of the game, and can be seen very frequently in players today. Jose Canseco was a star hitter in the major leagues, who had admitted to steroid later in his career. Canseco once estimated that 85% of other players were also taking performance enhancing drugs. Though that estimate is not proven, there are still many players today that are taking these steroids, and it needs to remain an issue in the eyes of the MLB. Taking these drugs not only promotes the risk of significant side effects and health problems to the player consuming them, but it makes changes to the game itself as well. The way the game is being played has changed over time due to this issue, and players are receiving advantages that other players are not. Overall, these illegal drugs are unfair to other players in the game and simply are not safe, and should never become legal in the league. Throughout the history of major league baseball we have seen countless astonishing hitters come pass through, some putting up record breaking numbers, at times too good to be true. Barry Bonds, known as the homerun king was able to put up an amazing total of 73 home runs in 2001. The very next season, he continued to present his skill with a .370 batting average. Between 1999 and 2007, Bonds stats were shocking, hitting 351 home runs, winning four national league MVP awards, and racking up 780 RBI s, 69 stolen bases, and just over one thousand hits. Alex Rodriguez, better known as A rod is another huge name when talking about the greatest hitters in baseball. For nine seasons out of Rodriguez s twenty two season career, 8.5% of the balls he would put into play were home runs. By the end of his lengthy career, he was able to collect 698 home runs, over two thousand RBI s and runs scored, with over three thousand hits. He was also named All Star fourteen times. People wouldn t come from miles and miles around to go to a fast foodrestaurant if it was out of their way. Fast food is all about convenience, and that is why location is one of the most important standards to bring in the restaurants consumers. However, sometimes fast food corporations take the process a step too far and use the location to market their product inappropriately to children and families. Consumers should not be used as pawns in marketingschemes based off of population, highway proximity, consumer demographics, and contiguity to areas with children. Of course it is known that it s a necessity for restaurant corporations to choose their location to better market their product. There are many beliefs for why the Aurora Borealis exists; the Inuit believe that the spirits of their ancestors can be seen in the Aurora Borealis. Norse Mythology states that the Aurora Borealis is a fire bridge to the sky built by the gods. But because of science, we now know that the sun causes the Aurora Borealis. What Causes the Aurora Borealis? The surface of the sun is worlds away. But on that surface, immense storms rage across the surface. These storms hurtle gusts of charged solar particles across the abyss of space. If the Earth happens to be in the path of the particles, the particles collide with molecules and atoms in the Earth s atmosphere. These atoms become stimulated by the sun s particles and light up. But what happens to cause the atoms to light up is where things start to get interesting. Atoms are made up of a nucleus and a cloud of electrons circling this nucleus. When the sun charged particles hit the atoms in the Earth s atmosphere; energy is transferred to the electrons, causing them to move further away from the nucleus. Hitler s View Of The Jewish People Essay From 1939 to 1945 the world saw actions and atrocities unparalleled in the War against Germany, the legacies of such actions we are still seeing today. Perhaps the most notable atrocity that was born from this war was the persecution of Jewish people in Germany and around Europe and the corresponding murder of up to 6 million Jewish people . When Adolf Hitlers National Socialist party seized power on January 30, 1933, there were approximately 525,000 Jewish people living in Germany, less than one percent of the population. Families were split apart and many families fled as far as they could have from the horrors of a country they once called home. Trust me, it s almost easy to get on the mat and bend and twist your body in comparison. And it is much harder to maintain a kind and generous heart in the face of adversity and stress. But the real yoga happens off the mat. The purpose of every yoga pose is really to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Analysis Of Daniel Defoe s The Life And Adventures Of... People have always wanted more power, wealth, or food than what was needed. This desire causes greed in society. Greed in a culture or society will cause the destruction of that society. From Adam and Eve consuming of the fruit from the tree of knowledge to the failure of companies and businesses in today s society, the desire for wants instead of needs has a negative impact (Clark par. 5). In 1719, Daniel Defoehad written a novel in which a main theme is greed. In Daniel Defoe s, The Life and Adventures of Robinson Crusoe, the protagonist, Robinson Crusoe, begins a journey packed with many misfortunes all over the world, caused by his desire to have more than he needs. Although he has a life filled with misfortune, Crusoe is able to persevere through the trails placed before him by humbling himself and properly classifying his wants and needs. Greed will cause downfalls and trials but humility will aid in recovering after the downfalls. In The Life and Adventures of Robinson Crusoe, before the many misfortunes begin, Crusoe lived a good life in the upper station of low life. His family was not rich, yet they were not poor, they prayed to have neither poverty nor riches (Defoe 2). Throughout his life, Crusoe s father had taught him: the middle station of life was calculated for all kind of virtues and all kind of enjoyments; that peace and plenty were the handmaids of a middle fortune; that temperance, moderation, quietness, health, society, all agreeable ... However, despite the pass that Clinton received in the presence of her political peers and media inquisitors, Clinton s characterization of the e mail investigation as benign involving Clinton s candidacy may be a red herring. • 45. Context, Violence and Leadership in Cormac McCarthy s... Cormac McCarthy s Blood Meridian does a marvelous job of highlighting the violent nature of mankind. The underlying cause of this violent nature can be analyzed from three perspectives, the first being where the occurrence of violence takes place, the second man s need to be led and the way their leader leads them, and lastly whether violence is truly an innate and inherent characteristic in man. Cormac McCarthyonce said, I think the notion that the species can be improved in some way, that everyone can live in harmony is a really dangerous idea. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The question to ask is what caused the West to be such a formidable location? The first theory to explore is that which states the land Blood Meridian took place in, Southwest America and Mexico, caused an absence of responsibility, which then caused the violent acts. In Blood Meridian massacres occur almost daily, yet civilization is neither built up nor hurt because there is no civilization to break down. (Kiefer) At the beginning of the book, The Kid has been brought to Captain White to be interviewed for a spot in the company. Captain White exclaims to the Kid, There is no government in Mexico. Hell, there s no God in Mexico. Never will be. (Blood Meridian 36) While this statement may be the byproduct of racism on Captain White s part, there is no doubt that some part of this statement holds true. The restaurant will combine the best of both worlds, a restaurant featuring BBQ developed by FoodNetwork star Guy Fieri and a brewery whose beers are built around the smokey BBQ laden menu. The Brewhouse portion will be under the control of Master Brewer Colin Presby who has spent the last couple of years manning the Brewhouse aboard the Vista. The smoke wasn t overpowering and I think it will pair nicely with the smoked BBQ. The West Coast IPA is hopped with Simcoe, Amarillo, and Centennial hops. While the aroma and taste of pine and citrus begin to blast your senses it finishes with a malty backbone. The refreshing Toasted Amber Ale gives off notes of lite caramel and biscuity malts. • 47. How Does The Impact Theory Of The Moon There are many theories about the creation of the moon. However the currently favored theory is often called the impact theory. This theory states that a large, Mars sized objects struck the Earth with a glancing blow when it was young and molten. This impact caused matter to come off of the Earth and get stuck in its orbit. The bits of Earththat blew off were pulled together into a stable orbit and formed the Moon. The Earth and Moon do have some similarities and differences that are explained by this theory. The Moon, for example, does not have heavy materials like Earth does. One example of a heavy material on Earth is the iron core. Earth has one, and the Moon does not. This is explained by the timing of the impact. If the Moon hit the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Physics-Bridge Project Essay Humans have tamed steel, stone, lumber, and even living vegetation, all in effort to reach the people, places, and things that we desire. Although the concept of bridges is as simple as a tree falling across a creek, bridge design and construction requires very serious ingenuity. Artists, engineers, and architects pour vast resources into bridgeconstruction so that they can reshape our daily environment for the better. When building bridges you ll need help from BATS which are the key structural components of bridge construction such as beams, arches , trusses, and suspensions. Various combinations of these four technologies make it possible for numerous bridge designs, ranging from some bridges as simple as beam bridges, arch bridges,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The truss design, which is a variant of a triangle, creates both a very rigid structure and one that transfers the load from a single point to a considerably wider area. After being used for 2000 years of architectural use, the arch continues to feature prominently in bridge designs. Its semicircular structure elegantly distributes compression through its entire form and diverts weight onto its two abutments, which are the components of the bridge that directly take on the pressure being exerted onto the bridge. The tensional forces in arch bridges are virtually negligible. That is because the natural curve of the arch and its ability to dissipate the force outward greatly reduces the effects of tension on the underside of the arch. The greater the degree of curvature, the greater the effects of tension on the underside of the bridge. If you build a big enough arch, the tension will eventually overtake the support of the bridges natural structure. While there is a fair amount in variety in arch bridge construction, the basic structure of every arch bridge is the same. For example there is Roman, Baroque and Renaissance which are all architecturally different they all have the same basic structure. It is the individual arch itself gives its namesake bridge its strength. An arch made of stone doesn t need a mortar. In fact the ancient Romans built arch bridges and aqueducts that are still standing today and are made ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Feminism Definition Essay What is feminism? The definition is often argued over by feminists and anti feminists. Feminists believe that the expectations for women are far too high to be attainable for most they are expected to be the perfect weight, the perfect height, the perfect everything in the eyes of society in order to be seen as worth anything. Feminists believe that women are seen by society as less powerful, less smart, simply less than men. Feminists also believe that feminismpromotes gender equality, not misandry. They aim to fix this. Anti feminists, on the other hand believe that feminism is women being obnoxious and putting themselves above men. They think feminism in 2015 in unnecessary. Women already have the right to vote, what more could they possibly want? This oppression is just one reason why feminism exists and in my opinion is extremely important in today s world. We so often hear people talk about their high expectations for women, we usually don t even give it a second thought anymore. Society expects women to be thin but not too thin, be fit but not too fit, be society s definition of beautiful . Whatever that is. (Slide 2) The nature of Deng Xiao Ping and the period of the Deng Era came to revolutionise China immensely and had the desire for progress and reform at any cost. Civil rights, Economic reforms and International relations under Deng Era can be considered to undermine the costs and benefits of Deng Xiaoping s modernisation of China. To seek further information, a major focus questions was built, which is, to what extent, did Deng Xiao Ping have a positive impact on China internally, economically and internationally after 1997? A hypothesis is created to answer the question, that Deng Xiao Ping had a detrimental impact because he dismissed civil rights in China internally, economically and internationally after 1997. Furthermore, the costs of China s reform and progress had a greater role than the benefits during the Deng Era. Therefore, the effects of the Deng Era, internally, economically and internationally had a greater cost impact than benefits on China. Three focus questions were acquired for this investigation. (Slide 3) Firstly, to determine the costs and benefits by Deng Xiaoping internally, I ask, to what cost did Deng Xiao Ping improve China? What was the Tiananmen Square Massacre and did it have an impact? We need to know about the Tiananmen Square Massacre. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Analysis Of The Book The Heidi Pirandellian Dark Comedy in Wendy Wasserstein s The Heidi Chronicles The main aim of this paper is to study Wendy Wasserstein s The Heidi Chronicles (1988) as a dark comedy in the light of Pirandello s definition of dark comedy. The line between tragedy and comedy is often thin and at times barely discernable. Certain playwrights have a gift for blurring this line, which allows audiences to receive their message without often knowing if they should be laughing at what appears to be a serious topic. Wendy Wasserstein(1950 2006) is one of the contemporary female playwrights who makes use of dark comedy. She is an excellent example of the genre dark comedy in the late twentieth century. She has won critical acclaim, Pulitzer Prizes and numerous additional awards for her writing. Wendy Wasserstein was the first woman in history to win the Pulitzer Prize as the author of an original play. In a 2001 Harper article on a new generation of women playwrights, the first sentence reads When you think of female playwrights, two words invariably come to mind: Wendy Wasserstein (334). Feminist Sally Burke writes that the feminist playwrights who began their work in the 1970s, even those who won Obie Awards, were virtually ignored except by scholars of feminist drama; this list includes Wasserstein (1). She is one of the most important playwrights of our time, yet her work lacks the critical and scholarly attention it deserves. Tragicomedy has been, in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
