Life On A Kiibbutz In Amos Oz s Between Friends
Life on a kibbutz is supposed to be like living in utopia; a great sense of community and a
symbol of fairness and justice in a world so full of cruelty. In Amos Oz s collection of short
stories, Between Friends, it is revealed that life on a kibbutz is not quite the Garden of Eden it
was originally created to be. In a string of melancholy short stories, Oz explores darker sides of
the kibbutz that aren t often discussed, including loneliness and the possibility of its occurrence
without being alone, as well as the theme of cruelty. The grim shadow of loneliness that is casted
over the kibbutz is present in every story and by doing so, Oz informs the reader that life is not as
it seems on the kibbutz. In the story Father, we learn about... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Oded doesn t fit in with the other children of the kibbutz and is described as slow, and the kids in
the kibbutz are tormenting him constantly. In addition to this, Oded gets an extreme case of
tough love from his mother, Leah, and is only shown affection through his father, Roni. When
looking through the stamp collection that Roni and Oded share, Oded heartbreakingly asks his
father if there are countries where children are allowed to sleep with their parents at night and
where children aren t mean and don t hit. This is establishes that Oded certainly does feel the
loneliness and torment from being alienated in ironically a place that no one is supposed to be.
Moreover it presents the idea that Oded is not happy on the kibbutz and dreams of leaving for a
better place. Oded s understanding of the suffering lurking on the kibbutz is seen again when he
thinks of the country that he sees on a stamp called, Hazarmaveth, the Courtyard of Death, a title
that frightens the young boy. Oded believes that this Courtyard of Death lies in the courtyard of
the children s house, the place of Oded s anguish. This allows the reader to discern that Oded
perceives places on the kibbutz as a place of utter unhappiness and that he does feel like he needs

The Effects of Industrialisation on the Structure of the Family
The Industrial Revolution was from 1750 s 1850 s, which had four main effects. One was the
Economic system becoming industrial from agriculture, the second was Mechanisation meaning
production in factories becoming more efficient, the third was Urbanisation and the fourth was
population explosion low mobility rate and higher birth rate.
Tallcott Parsons (1950 s) believed that the extended family in pre Industrial Britain was the most
beneficial as they were a unit of production and they were able to maintain a subsistence level of
existence with very little reliance on non family members. Parsons believed that post ... Show more

As a result of his research he provides evidence that the large extended family households were
relatively uncommon in the Pre Industrial society. He concluded that 10% of households in
England (1564 1821) include kin beyond the nuclear family. He claims hoe the nuclear family
households may have been a characteristic of much of North West Europe and Laslett argues that
this may have been important factor encouraging the process of industrialisation. An important
aspect of the industrial revolution was the prior existence of the nuclear family facilitating the
movement of workers to urban areas. Although Laslett s Research was seen to be thorough its not
possible to discover from his data how much cooperation occurred between kin who were members
of different households, so the extended families may have therefore been important while
remaining residentially dispersed among several neighbouring households.
Young and Willmott (Y W) believed that there were four stages of the family and from those four,
three main stages. They studied family life in London (1950 s 1970 s)( using historical research
and social surveys. They essentially ignore middle class and concentrate on the working class
families. Young and Willmott say that stage one was

The Political Reform Of A Democracy Essay
The basis of a democracy goes back as far as 507 B.C. It was introduced by Ancient Athens first
leader Cleisthenes. His primary mean was to ensure equality among his people; however,
Cleisthenes equality declaration only spread so far and accomplished so much. Only forty
thousand men over the age of eighteen were allowed to be part of Athens political affairs. This
Athenian democracy was separated into three parts: the ekklesia a sovereign governing body
that wrote laws and dictated foreign policy; the boule a council of representatives from the ten
Athenian tribes; and the dikasteria the popular courts in which citizens argued cases before a
group of lottery selected jurors. Cleisthenes democracy only survived for two centuries.
However, his political reform of a democracy is one of Ancient Greece s best contributions to the
entire world. Democracy is defined as a form of government in which the supreme power is
vested in the people, and exercised directly by them or by their elected agents under a free
electoral system. It is also defined as a state of democracy characterized by formal equality of
rights at privileges. In short terms, a democracy is ran for the people, by the people. It is primarily
focused on the equality among people, and those same people are able to control who holds the
power in their economy. We, the United States, run as a democracy. Though, the electoral votes are
those that are only accounted for in the election, our vote

Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR). EMDR is an extension of this PET in
which the patient is exposed to the traumatic memories coincident with a small distraction. In the
original version of EMDR, the distraction consisted of hand movements of the therapist to direct
movements of the patient?s eyes. More recent versions of EMDR include other types of
distractions such as hand tapping or audio cues.160,178 Results with EMDR have been obtained
from a few studies showing large symptom reduction in military populations,179 including results
maintained at 9 month follow up and 78% of completers no longer meeting criteria for PTSD.180
However, other studies conducted were either in very small samples or over only a few EMDR

general population.184
Therapeutic Commonalities. Each of the PTSD treatments discussed above focuses on the idea that
learning to reprocess the old emotional memory will allow the patient to develop less dramatically
fearful responses to triggers and helps the patient extinguish responses to the original memory
through re experiencing the trauma in a safe setting. Trauma based treatments center around
extinction of the original emotional, fearful response. This neurological response will be

Victimless Crime Summary
According to James, Data on victimless crimes such as drug crimes, prostitution, and gambling
cannot be collected by the NCVS (40). This leaves out a major chunk of crime, and this may
make crime rates in an area seem lower, since it leaves out many types of crimes. Another major
problem in the processing of the surveys according to James is, When a respondent experiences six
or more similar but separate victimizations, and when the respondent is unable to recall the details
of each incident well enough to describe them to the interviewer, the interviewer completes one
incident report to cover the series of incidents. The incident report is completed using information
from the most recent incident (38). This is another major problem

The Pros And Cons Of International Commercial Arbitration
Conclusion
The driving force of trade is one of the most powerful influences on human activity. Therefore since
the medieval time till this day; Commercial law has been constantly developing by adapting new
principles due the continuous growth in the commercial transactions; in order a to fit and match the
sellers and buyers needs in our modern societies. In addition the harmonization of the principles and
rules of commercial law governing international transactions has played a main role on positively
affecting the commercial transactions by encouraging sellers and buyer to carry on with
international business where the parties are located in different countries; which earlier was a risk
to them due to conflict of laws and different jurisdictions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In International Commercial Arbitration, The awards given by the arbitrators have direct effect that
can be enforced international in the member states to the New York Convention. After the award is
granted to one party, if the other party fails to perform his duty then the award can be taken to
litigation and it will be enforced by the courts.
Through the materials in this research, it can be concluded that ADR and precisely International
Commercial Arbitration can be more efficient than litigation and any means of ADR, as saves time,
coasts and preserves relationships between the parties. Furthermore shares the features of the other
ADR methods; such neutrality, confidentiality, and speed. But it has one more advantage over
other ADR methods, that by the end of the arbitral process the arbitrator will make an award which
can be internationally enforced under New York Convention 1958.

Abstract This paper strews a panoramic view of Gynocentrism as a literary critical theory and its
ramification in the form of the human relationship. Gynocentrism is a radical feminist dictum that
scrutinizes the identity crises, culture, psychic, and the social consciousness female with the women
centered approach. Gynocentrism is perhaps best conjectured as a traditional phase in ... Show more

Gynocentric feminism thus, prompts a vision of femininity and odds with androcentric and
misogynist formulations that have traditionally been assigned to women. It extols feminity as a
source of values by which, it castigates the androcentric society. Gynocentrism is perhaps best seen
as a traditional phase in feminist theory, which capitulates its voice for addressing the wholesale
marginalization of women s voice.
On the contrary to gynocentrism, Elaine Showalter an American critic, feminist and writer quibbles
for the realignment of the conceptual standpoints of literary studies by seeing writings of women
as primary rather than marginal. She also flicks to identify the aberration in women s penning and
investigates how psychodynamics of female creativity shapes the literary productions and readings
differently from those of men. Having coined a new appellation, Gynocritics in her cameo,
Towards A Feminist Poetics, she contends that the programme of gynocritics is to evolve a female
frame work for the analysis of women s literature and to develop new methods based on the study
of female experience rather than to adopt male s models and theories. In order to diagnose the
female difference, the gynocritical approach is sought to study the history, styles, themes, genres
and structure of penmanship by women. The writers like, Adrienne Rich and Susan Griffin have
also manifested the gynocritical writing.

Ethics In Call Of Duty
War is unforgiveable. Even to the novices and the arm chair commanders whose combat
experience does not extend past Call of Duty , it is clear that choosing one path over another can
mean the difference between life and death for oneself and one s unit. Sometimes there is no right
decision, and yet in others our own prejudices, fears, and emotions get in the way of the right
decision. While the former is often the well known reality of life that is seldom overcome, the
latter leads people to make the wrong decision when the right one is clear. The same can be said of
the unit from the Academy Award winning 1986 film Platoon that fell victim to their own
prejudices, fears, and emotions, eventually committing a number of warcrimes before the film was
through.
Despite the fictional nature of the film, Chris Taylor, played by Charlie Sheen, and the rest of the
soldiers in his platoon are forced to face not only their own ill advised actions, but whether or not
to report the illegal killing of a Vietnamese civilian. After Sergeant Elias, one of the platoon s squad
leaders, reports the killing, he is killed in action under suspicious circumstances after coming face to
face with the perpetrator, Staff Sergeant Barnes, the platoon sergeant. After Elias dies, Taylor and

Two Arguments On The Theory Of Evolution
Evolutionism is supported by most people. There are two arguments on the theory of evolution.
The first argument is that evolution is caused by natural selection, such as the birds of the
Galapagos Islands. Because of different food made of different mouth type of bird, after the
environment changed, the food source changed, causing the birds died, this is the result of natural
selection.
The second argument is that all creatures are genetically related. In the anatomy, although whales
appearance just like fish, but the other part is more similar with the mammals, and in the early
embryonic development process also like mammals,
Genetics also found that the closest DNA sequence of whale was hippopotamus, probably they had a
common ancestor

How Did Darwin Contribute To Evolution
Long before Charles Darwin, other people made important contributions to the historical
development of the theory of evolution. It all started in 5th century BC when early Greek
philosophers characterized the origin of the natural world as by the power of nature rather than by
supernatural force. They proposed the theory of evolutionto explain the basis of the natural world.
Thus, evolutionary theory began with the Ionian philosopher Anaximander (611 546 BC) who
proposed living beings gradually developed from water and that humans originated from animals.
He proposed the world had arisen from an undifferentiated, indeterminate substance. In the 6th
century BC, Xenophanes (570475 BC) developed Anaximander s theories by using fossils as...

Its philosophy was dedicated to unveiling God s plan by studying his creation. Species were
individually created and designed by God for a purpose. This popular doctrine of a fixed,
permanent and unchanging species overruled suggested ideas of evolution. Natural theologian
Carolus Linnaeus (1701 1778) was the Father of Taxonomy and he developed the two part system
(genus and species) of naming organisms and grouping species into a hierarchy. He firmly
believed that species were permanent and dedicated his life to classifying organisms to reveal the
plan of God s creation.
Through greater knowledge of the natural world, discoveries in the geological sciences greatly
contributed to making Darwin s theory of evolution possible. French geologist Buffon (1707 1778)
came to recognize that sedimentary rocks were laid down at different times suggesting the age of
the earth. French zoologist and paleontologist Georges Cuvier (1769 1832) documented the
succession of fossil species, noting the progressiveness of the fossil record however, he was
opposed to evolution and argued that boundaries between organisms from different strata were
cause by past catastrophic events (catastrophism). Uniformitarian, Charles Lyell (1797 1875)
suggested that various geological formations on Earth resulted from the cumulative effects of slow
but continuous processes over long expanses of time confirming that slow gradual changes over
expansive amounts of time can yield substantial

The Civil Service Reform ( Csr )
1.0Introduction/ Background
Improvement, change and innovation are almost constant, as the service environment remains
dynamic in tune to the trend of the society. Civil service reform (CSR) is one of the most
intractable yet important challenges for governments and their supporters today. However, CSR
might have failed in some states; this is not to say the process is not pertinent as governments and
their supporters today seize opportunities availed by the reformation. To buttress this fact, Sarah
(2012) posited reformation as a tool touches not only on government s very purpose of existence,
but also on some of its most sensitive, protected areas.
Authors like Sarah (2012), Antwi, Analoui and Nana Agyekum (2008) subscribed to the assertion
that civil service is the backbone of the state, supporting or undermining the entire system of
governance. This system of governance is however open to notable modifications termed reforms,
since administrative heads change, and every administrator has his/her style. In this context,
Evans, (2008) cited in Sarah (2012), traced the account of CSR and broke it into three phases.
The first phase took place in the 1980s. This period was characterized largely by donors supporting
various aspects of institutional development realizing the civil service s crucial role in changing
policy. After the collapse of Communism and the failure of many of the aid programmes of the
aforementioned phase, the 1990s saw a growing consensus that the

Pearl Harbor Accuracy Essay
Pearl Harbor
The movie Pearl Harbor is historically inaccurate because of the fact that it doesn t have a
correct order of events, appropriate weaponry and because of it s usage of props that were
unavailable at the time. First of all in the movie Pearl Harbor, the actual sequence of events that
occured on December 7, 1941 was that the japanese sent two seperate waves of fighter planes to
attack the U.S Naval base of Pearl Harbor. (Memorials) However in the movie Pearl Harbor the
attack on the naval base was depicted as being just a single wave of japanese fighter pilots. This
greatly affects the movies credibility of being historically accurate by providing a false picture of
what happened at the attack of the Naval base.
Also another discrepancy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Hughes) As well as in the movie there is a couple scenes that show three guns mounted to each
wing of the fighter plane but really the models of planes at the time only had two mounted on
each wing. (Pearl Harbor) Also another thing wrong with the movie is how the use of korean
vehicles appeared specifically the jeep that the commander is sitting in, the M 80s. The korean
M 80s were invented in around the 1950 s so it could have been around during the attack on Pearl
Harbor. (Jeep) Also another thing that proved to be historically inaccurate in the film was the the
props they used. One being the types of cigarettes they were smoking. The characters from the
movie were smoking Marlboro Lights which didn t even appear anywhere until the 70 s! (Hughes)
Another prop that was used in the movie that was incorrect for the time period of the movie which
was set in the 1940 s was how most of the characters would wear rimless sunglasses, something that
definitely wasn t around during that period of time. The rimless sunglasses weren t invented until
the 60 s.

Benefit Of Space Exploration
America has reaped the benefits of space exploration for sixty years, despite the open knowledge
of its effects on those who enter radiation and low gravity environments. A low gravity
environment is a space in which gravity, an attracting force between two masses, is lowered in a
way that causes a feeling of weightlessness (Newman, Phil. What Is Gravity? ). Lowered gravity
can cause gene modification and alter behavior (Shikawa, Chihiro, et al. Effects of Gravity
Changes on Gene Expression of BDNF and Serotonin Receptors in the Mouse Brain. ). It can also
induce osteoporosis, an incurable disease increasing the susceptibility of bones to fracture (
Osteoporosis. ), causing astronauts to lose 1 2% of bone mass per month in space (Bones, Space.
Space Bones. . Radiation (from space) is a type of ionizing radiation that releases energy when it
occurs. When that energy is released, it can be absorbed by living tissue, which can cause
irreparable DNA damage (Cucinotta, Francis A. Space Radiation Risks for Astronauts on Multiple
International Space StationMissions. ).
Some believe that the benefits of space exploration are great enough to overlook the decreasing
health of astronauts who have been affected by space travel. I believe that the knowledge of space
from space exploration is not beneficial enough to cause astronauts harm and long term health
problems when the same work could be done by artificial intelligence.

Analysis Of Initiation By Sylvia Plath
In the short story Initiation by Sylvia Plath, Millicent Arnold is a narcissistic teenager undergoing
her initiation into the most prestige social group at Lansing High. Despite being aware of the
risk at losing her best friend, Tracy, Millicent eagerly seeks the opportunity to be part of a close
knit group and as a result, she is mistreated and forced to conform to the group s narrow standards.
Plath explains how being part of a social group does not necessarily help one grow individually, but
rather assimilates them into what is portrayed as esteemed social status. As Millicent goes through
the downgrading initiationprocess, she discovers the value of friendshipand realizes that being
associated with a certain group will not help her achieve confidence in her true self.
Firstly, the story introduces Millicent at the end of her grueling initiation about to be granted
entry into a very prestige social group. She states her case would be different (199) implying that
despite getting so far in her initiation, something changes her mind and her ultimate decision to
not join the sorority. She is clearly quite proud of herself and is amused at her exclusive position
being one of the elect. This sense of pride is further enhanced by her best friend, Tracy s support
and encouragement. It is evident how badly Millicent wants to be part of the sorority considering
that Millicent had waited a long time for acceptance, longer than most (200). After years of
wistfully looking

Difference Between Aristotle And Montaigne
Aristotle and Montaigne are two different philosophers, Aristotle is ancient philosopher while
Montaigne is a modern philosopher. Aristotle believes friendship occurs between virtuous people
and the goal is to help one another reach their absolute best. Montaigne believes a friend is
another self resulting from a fusion of wills. The main focus of this paper is to assess Montaigne s
philosophy and Aristotle s philosophy on their view of loveand judge which view of love is more
convincing to a reasonable human being. Between Aristotle and Montaigne, Montaigne s view of
love is more convincing to a reasonable human being because friendshipis more complex and
complicated than categorizing friendship into different levels.
Aristotle s view of love is philia, while on the other hand Montaigne s view of love is pragma.
Philia is the deep comradely friendship about showing loyalty and pragma is the deep understanding
between two people. Montaigne strongly believes friendship should be an unconstrained product of
will, while Aristotle uses a rather categorical approach to friendship, utility, pleasure, and virtue. By
making strict delineations and then using examples, he establishes a rather strict definition of
friendship that is created along lines of social class. He argues, among other things, that friendship
must be between similarly virtuous men of equal standing. In addition, the purest form of
friendship, and the one that Aristotle considers the only genuine friendship,

The Theories Of The Scientific Management Theory
Management, as defined by Richard Wilson, is the body of thought that seeks to explain and
improve the administrative control of businesses and their employees (2016). In this paper we will
discuss some of the more popular management theories including the Scientific Management
Theory by Frederick W. Taylor, Administrative Management
Theory by Henri Fayol, Bureaucratic
Management Theory by Max Weber, The Hawthorne Studies Human Relations Management Theory
by Elton Mayo, the Management Science Theory, and the Organization Environment Theory of
Open Systems developed by Daniel Katz, Robert Kahn, and James Thompson.
Scientific Management Theory
Considered the father of management thought, Frederick Taylor was one of the earliest theorists
credited with developing and defining the theory of scientific management in the late 1800 s. His
theories were designed to improve the efficiency of a factory system and worker manager relations
and to prevent soldiering, which was the tendency of workers to only complete enough work to
avoid being penalized or reprimanded (Biscontini, 2015). Taylor s theory stressed the importance of
strict time and motion studies of the industrial process. With the development of the assembly line,
such time and motion studies seemed appropriate for breaking large industrial processes down into
their smallest components and then training workers to perform only one small part of the
manufacturing process (Wilson, 2016).

The Pardoner Of Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales
Hypocrisy is a common attribute attributed to many of Chaucer s religious characters in The
Canterbury Tales. They are greedy, drunks, and people without a moral code. In The Pardoner s
Tale this theme is exemplified. The Pardoner is greedy and drunk. Matthew 19:24 (ESV) says,
Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to
enter the kingdom of God. Despite this, the Pardoner s only goal is to scam as many people as
he can with his pardoning of sins. The Pardoner would pretend to have objects blessed by the
Vatican and sell them to people as an indulgence for future sins. It is doubtful that any of his
objects had even been to Rome. Therefore, when the Pardoner starts his tale, it is one full of
hypocrisyand deceit. Arguably, Chaucer s grievance was not specific to the Pardoner. Rather,
Chaucer used this character to make a wider point about the corruption of religionduring the
fourteenth century. During Chaucer s life, the fourteenth century, it was a common belief that
outward physical attribute represents the personal attributes such as one s moral code and vices.
Chaucer s first description of the Pardoner s appearance says, This pardoner hadde heer as yelow
as wex. / But smothe it heeng as dooth a strike of flex; / By ounces henge his lokkes that he

The Green Gulch by Loren Eiseley
The author of Green Gulch conveys that when in a group, one can be overwhelmed by pressure
that brings them to savage extremes. After being lost, a young boy joins a group of kids he has
never seen before. The group is nice and offers to bring the boy home. They stop at a sanctuary of
a pond. There is a turtle in the pond that is violently murdered by the boys after one decides to
throw a rock. Then, the group turns on the new boy. They beat him maliciously and leave him
stranded on the road to get home. As, the boy look backs he can t think of what went wrong, They
stood in a little group watching me, nervous now, ashamed a little at the ferocious pack impulse
toward the outsider that had swept them. Obvious from the boys reactions, it was the fault of the
group impulse. After the murderof turtle, the adrenaline and riot of the group caused them to turnon
the next vulnerable target. They were not acting as they should have, and the realize that
afterwards. They were nervous. Even though there is not immediately an adult around, they are
nervous because society has conditioned them to behave. They are also ashamed. The shame
shows that they are nice boys. They feel bad. This shows that the vicious group mind set was so
strong that it came over there good personalities and conscious. However, there is only this slight
remorse after the fact. This does not make up for the brutal murder and beating that they had dealt.

Patterns of Management Theory
THE MANAGEMENT THEORY JUNGLE
The purpose of this article is to identify the various schools of management theory, indicate the
source of the differences, and to provide some suggestions for disentangling the management theory
jungle. Koontz describes six schools of management theory as follows.
1. The Management Process School
The management process school views management as a process of getting things done with people
working in organized groups. Fathered by Henri Fayol, this school views management theory as a
way of organizing experience for practice, research and teaching. It begins by defining the functions
of management.
2. The Empirical School
The empirical school views management theory as a study of experience. Koontz mentions ... Show

For example, mathematics, operations research, accounting, economic theory, sociometry, and
psychology are significant tools of management, but they are not part of the content of the field.
2. Integration of Management and other Disciplines
3. The Clarification of Management Semantics
4. Willingness to Distill and Test Fundamentals
Criteria to Remember in Clarifying Management Theory
1. Management theory should deal with a manageable area of knowledge and inquiry.
2. Management theory should be useful in improving practice.
3. Management theory should not be lost in semantics, jargon not understandable to the practitioner.
4. Management theory should provide direction and efficiency to research and teaching.
5. Management theory must recognize that it is a part of a larger universe of knowledge and theory.
Koontz clarified the jungle like nature of management theory, first in the
Journal of the Academy of Management, then in Harvard Business Review.^

The United States Incarceration System
The United States incarceration system is a structural foundation of punishment in which is formed
by robust authoritarian power. The United States criminal justice system is not an institution to be
underestimated, as it represents the highest incarceration rate of all world nations at a staggering
700 inmates per 100 thousand citizens (Krisberg, 7). Based on the social and political structure of
democracy in the United States, it is argued that incarceration systems should follow the same roots
of equality and freedom; however, the current format demonstrates otherwise. Currently, the United
States criminal justicesystem faces issues of inhumane treatment due to the sheer overcrowding,
which restrict inmates from just treatment within penitentiaries. This lack of equality standards was
argued in the 2011 court case, Brown v. Plata, which California prisonsystems were forced to
decrease prisons overcapacity rate from 175% to 137.5% due to the overwhelming amount of
inmate mistreatment (Koehler, 3). In the decision of Brown v. Plata (2011), supreme court justice
Anthony Kennedy argued dignity should be an organizing principle in the United States justice
system and demonstrated in all correctional facilities. Anthony Kennedy, along with guest lecturer,
Jonathan Simon characterize dignity as a fundamental piece to the incarceration system, and
without it, inmates are victimized to cruel and inhumane treatment. Dignity does not consist of
domination and unequal treatment of

What Are The Achievements Of African Kingdoms Before...
African Kingdoms Before Europeans The achievements of the African kingdoms and cities
were better before the arrival of the Europeans. The Niger River created a place where all the
kingdoms could trade, since the kingdoms were all around it and made a way to transport
goods. The salt and gold trade was a way so one place that had to much gold and had very little
of salt would get the salt they need and the opposite for the other city state. Mansa Musa was so
generous that he made the gold worth go down by giving out so much gold. The western African
kingdoms had achievements like the salt and gold trade, the Niger River to help them trade along
with, and Mansa Musa that gave out gold and helped Mali become twice the size it was. The salt and

Birth Defects and the Millennum Development Goals Essay

In many cases, two or more environmental factors may be interrelated or synergistic (Al Hadithi ,
Shabila, Saleh Al Diwan , 2012). Although the cause of most birth defects are unknown, certain
genetic and environmental factors increase the chance of birth defects developing. These factors
include exposure to radiation, certain drugs, alcohol, isotretinoin, accutane, nutritional deficiencies,
certain infections in the mother, injuries, and hereditary disorders. While some risks are avoidable
others occur no matter how strictly a pregnant woman adheres to healthful living practices.
Environmental substances that can cause birth defects are called teratogens. A teratogen is any
substance that can cause or increase the chance of a birth defect. Examples include radiation
(including x rays), certain drugs, and toxins (including alcohol). Most pregnant women who are
exposed to teratogens have newborns withabnormalities. Whether or not a birth defect occurs
depends on when, how much, and how long the pregnant woman was exposed to the teratogen.
For example, exposure to a teratogen during the time that certain parts of the brain are developing
is more likely to cause a defect in those areas than exposure before or after this critical period.

Domestic Abuse And Domestic Violence
I chose to do the domestic survivors subculture I feel as if it was a great topic to focus on its
going to reveal a lot of emotion. Domestic violence can happen to anyone. Domestic violence
sometimes called battering is against the law. At first glance, it is hard to imagine why a victim of
domestic violence would voluntarily remain in the relationship with the abuser. As you may know
domestic violencedoesn t always start off as violence it starts off as in the form of love. The
abuser feels as if they love the person so much that it hurts. That the abuse they inflict on the
person they love is because they love and care about them. Many victims feel as if no one will
believe them. There has been so many cases that have gone unanswered because no one really
knows what goes on. The person being abused hides what the abuser does because they think it is
something they did wrong or they think the person loves them. Domestic abuse comes in different
forms it can be verbal, physical, or sexual. Domestic abuse leaves psychological scars from
anxiety due to living in ongoing danger. In my essay you will get to know a lot of women that
have survived domestic abuse and their stories.
Meet Lisette Johnson she is a domestic abuse survivor her story started off as her husband calling
her names and always talking about her after while it progressed to much more. She feared
leaving him because she had two kids and she was for sure she wouldn t get full custody of them.

The Ancient Civilizations of Central and South America Essay
The Ancient Civilizations of Central and South America
Central and South America was once home to some of the ancient world s most magnificent and
glorious civilizations. The Incas, Aztecs, and Mayas were just three of these civilizations. These
civilizations ruled the area for many years, and flourished greatly in their own different ways.
They were the cause for much advancement in arts, architecture, politics, religion, and society in
the world. These civilizations created pyramids, temples, and monuments in honor of their gods
and rulers. Their people proved to be intellectually advanced, and they were able to successfully

They began as a tribe of nomads and hunter gatherers. They were not used to settling and living
in one area for many years, and so it was after a few years that they began to form permanent
settlements. At this time the Aztecs were not even near being a major empire, as their arrival in
the region had absolutely no impact on the other tribes that were already settled there. It took
many hundreds of years for the Aztecs to make a strong hold in Central America. As this process
took place they started to grow as a tribe and made more enemies. Many battles were fought with
their neighboring tribes, and the Aztecs had to flee to the islet located on Lake Texcoco. It was
there, as an island city, that Tenochititlan was first built by the Aztectribe and made their capital
city. Overtime it matured into their largest city as well.[1]
The city of Tenochititlan went through many hardships, and many wars. But, in the end the Aztec
people prevailed and finally began to show their true colors with the makings of a unique
civilization and culture that would dominate the Americas for many years. This showed great
resilience on their part, and proved to people that they would fight for their survival against
anyone.В№

in the theory of the ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle (384 322 B.C.), who had said that the

English Language And Informal Language Essay
In the English language formal language has always been more commonly used when writing. The
internet and social media have led to an increase in the ways we utilize the English language daily.
Informal language was previously used round those people knew well. But on social media,
informal language in written work can reach a much larger audience. English language pundits
believe that the use of informal language will be integrated into formal styles of writingover the
next 50 years. Informal language will be introduced into formal writing due to younger generations
being increasingly exposed to informal language when reading, and formal writing adapting to
reflect our society which communicates informally. Children are now growing up in a society
where informal language is becoming more commonplace. Classrooms around the world have
adopted technology to enhance student s learning, especially in primary level schools. In Dwyer,
Ringstaff and Sandholtz s 1991 article, researchers discussed how:
It appeared chat children interacted with each other more frequently while working at computers.
And the interactions were different the students spontaneously helped each other. They were
curious about what others were doing. They were excited about their own activities, and they were
intently engaged. (1)
This surge in technology has resulted in children communicating online with multiple forms of
media such as static and animated images (GIFs). Because these children are now

beneficial to Tom and the team. Falls are a serious health concern for people and an important
issue for nurses. Many factors contribute to the causes of falls, apart from cognitive impairment.
The consequences of patient falls are becoming a serious issue for patients and society. I
discovered preventive strategies could be used as a theory to minimise falls in older people
using different literature reviews. A fall however can be defined as an unexpected, involuntary
loss of balance by which a person comes to rest at lower or ground level (Commodove, 1995).
The older population is growing in number, and falling is common in this group up to one third
of people over the age of 65 falls each year, with half reporting multiple falling episodes (Bludau

highest cause of in older people. Half of those ages over 75 years who fracture their hip as a result
of a fall die within one year (Rawskey, 1998), and those who survive rarely regain complete
mobility (Marotolli et al 1992). Falls are associated with major morbidity, functional decline and

Promise In Brave New World
Who defines peril and promise? (Add static to conclusion) When a new technology is created
there are two distinct parties who define whether it is full of promise or peril: the creator and
those who are affected by the creation. The definition used by each party varies massively on the
technology that was developed. The creator of a new technologyis often the first person to
determine whether or not it will bring peril to society. In almost every case, the technology is
constructed with the intentions of promise, bringing a net benefit to society.

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the difference in means between the three groups and
within the three groups by conducting an analysis of variance (ANOVA) test (Salkind, 2013). The
variables that will be used within this paper are from the research scenario. The two variables are:
ability to identify hypertension lifestyle factors which consist of three groups cannot identify, can

variable and the dependent variable, the variables are equal (Salkind, 2013). For the following
research scenario, the null hypothesis would state: there is no difference between the variable
ability to identify hypertension lifestyle factors (cannot identify, can identify some, can identify all)
and willingness to engage in self care.

What Is My Personal Nursing Philosophy
Philosophy of Nursing
As a professional nurse, my personal philosophy of nursing is based on the core belief that all
individuals possess unique characteristics and needs. Each person is the product of their own
personal growth through learning and experience, resulting in individual and unique cultural,
spiritual and developmental dimensions.
Nursing is a dynamic, helping, healing and caring process. It employs the unique application of
knowledge and skills to improve the quality of life. Nursing is unique in its ability to provide a
comprehensive and compassionate view of the health needs of every patient. The professional nurse
promotes collaboration with the entire health care team and utilizes all available resources for the
benefit of the client. I believe that the following values should guide the practice of nursing and
provide the basis for the formulation of a philosophy of nursing;
When making decisions about an individual nurse s scope of practice, the first and foremost
considerations are the best interests of the patient, and the importance of promoting and maintaining
the highest quality of health services.
Nursing care should be delivered in a way that respects the uniqueness and dignity of each patient
regardless of culture, ethnicity or religion.
The therapeutic relationship between nurse and patient is fundamental to nursing practice, and is

The problem is the distribution of wealth in our society and the world as a whole, and how it is
getting worse. Some people would say that it is an inequality due to the needs of the society,
while others would say it is to the needs or individuals. This causes even more problems because
of there being more than one supposed reason for the issue at hand. The problem is that the

and that if they work harder, they will be rewarded with more resources or money. It also says
that rich people have worked very hard to get where they are and it is not just because of their

that everyone is in a different class and this states that the classes are earned and not just given,

  • 2. Life On A Kiibbutz In Amos Oz s Between Friends Life on a kibbutz is supposed to be like living in utopia; a great sense of community and a symbol of fairness and justice in a world so full of cruelty. In Amos Oz s collection of short stories, Between Friends, it is revealed that life on a kibbutz is not quite the Garden of Eden it was originally created to be. In a string of melancholy short stories, Oz explores darker sides of the kibbutz that aren t often discussed, including loneliness and the possibility of its occurrence without being alone, as well as the theme of cruelty. The grim shadow of loneliness that is casted over the kibbutz is present in every story and by doing so, Oz informs the reader that life is not as it seems on the kibbutz. In the story Father, we learn about... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Oded doesn t fit in with the other children of the kibbutz and is described as slow, and the kids in the kibbutz are tormenting him constantly. In addition to this, Oded gets an extreme case of tough love from his mother, Leah, and is only shown affection through his father, Roni. When looking through the stamp collection that Roni and Oded share, Oded heartbreakingly asks his father if there are countries where children are allowed to sleep with their parents at night and where children aren t mean and don t hit. This is establishes that Oded certainly does feel the loneliness and torment from being alienated in ironically a place that no one is supposed to be. Moreover it presents the idea that Oded is not happy on the kibbutz and dreams of leaving for a better place. Oded s understanding of the suffering lurking on the kibbutz is seen again when he thinks of the country that he sees on a stamp called, Hazarmaveth, the Courtyard of Death, a title that frightens the young boy. Oded believes that this Courtyard of Death lies in the courtyard of the children s house, the place of Oded s anguish. This allows the reader to discern that Oded perceives places on the kibbutz as a place of utter unhappiness and that he does feel like he needs to escape the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Effects of Industrialisation on the Structure of the Family The Industrial Revolution was from 1750 s 1850 s, which had four main effects. One was the Economic system becoming industrial from agriculture, the second was Mechanisation meaning production in factories becoming more efficient, the third was Urbanisation and the fourth was population explosion low mobility rate and higher birth rate. Parsons believed that post ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a result of his research he provides evidence that the large extended family households were relatively uncommon in the Pre Industrial society. He concluded that 10% of households in England (1564 1821) include kin beyond the nuclear family. He claims hoe the nuclear family households may have been a characteristic of much of North West Europe and Laslett argues that this may have been important factor encouraging the process of industrialisation. An important aspect of the industrial revolution was the prior existence of the nuclear family facilitating the movement of workers to urban areas. Although Laslett s Research was seen to be thorough its not possible to discover from his data how much cooperation occurred between kin who were members of different households, so the extended families may have therefore been important while remaining residentially dispersed among several neighbouring households. Young and Willmott (Y W) believed that there were four stages of the family and from those four, three main stages. They studied family life in London (1950 s 1970 s)( using historical research and social surveys. They essentially ignore middle class and concentrate on the working class families. • 4. The Political Reform Of A Democracy Essay The basis of a democracy goes back as far as 507 B.C. It was introduced by Ancient Athens first leader Cleisthenes. His primary mean was to ensure equality among his people; however, Cleisthenes equality declaration only spread so far and accomplished so much. Only forty thousand men over the age of eighteen were allowed to be part of Athens political affairs. This Athenian democracy was separated into three parts: the ekklesia a sovereign governing body that wrote laws and dictated foreign policy; the boule a council of representatives from the ten Athenian tribes; and the dikasteria the popular courts in which citizens argued cases before a group of lottery selected jurors. Cleisthenes democracy only survived for two centuries. However, his political reform of a democracy is one of Ancient Greece s best contributions to the entire world. Democracy is defined as a form of government in which the supreme power is vested in the people, and exercised directly by them or by their elected agents under a free electoral system. It is also defined as a state of democracy characterized by formal equality of rights at privileges. In short terms, a democracy is ran for the people, by the people. It is primarily focused on the equality among people, and those same people are able to control who holds the power in their economy. We, the United States, run as a democracy. Though, the electoral votes are those that are only accounted for in the election, our vote ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The patient also repeatedly engages with their fear triggers.177 Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR). EMDR is an extension of this PET in which the patient is exposed to the traumatic memories coincident with a small distraction. In the original version of EMDR, the distraction consisted of hand movements of the therapist to direct movements of the patient?s eyes. More recent versions of EMDR include other types of distractions such as hand tapping or audio cues.160,178 Results with EMDR have been obtained from a few studies showing large symptom reduction in military populations,179 including results maintained at 9 month follow up and 78% of completers no longer meeting criteria for PTSD.180 However, other studies conducted were either in very small samples or over only a few EMDR sessions.181 183 As such, much of the evidence supporting EMDR is still from studies in the general population.184 Therapeutic Commonalities. Each of the PTSD treatments discussed above focuses on the idea that learning to reprocess the old emotional memory will allow the patient to develop less dramatically fearful responses to triggers and helps the patient extinguish responses to the original memory through re experiencing the trauma in a safe setting. This leaves out a major chunk of crime, and this may make crime rates in an area seem lower, since it leaves out many types of crimes. Another major problem in the processing of the surveys according to James is, When a respondent experiences six or more similar but separate victimizations, and when the respondent is unable to recall the details of each incident well enough to describe them to the interviewer, the interviewer completes one incident report to cover the series of incidents. The incident report is completed using information from the most recent incident (38). This is another major problem ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It extols feminity as a source of values by which, it castigates the androcentric society. Gynocentrism is perhaps best seen as a traditional phase in feminist theory, which capitulates its voice for addressing the wholesale marginalization of women s voice. On the contrary to gynocentrism, Elaine Showalter an American critic, feminist and writer quibbles for the realignment of the conceptual standpoints of literary studies by seeing writings of women as primary rather than marginal. She also flicks to identify the aberration in women s penning and investigates how psychodynamics of female creativity shapes the literary productions and readings differently from those of men. Having coined a new appellation, Gynocritics in her cameo, Towards A Feminist Poetics, she contends that the programme of gynocritics is to evolve a female frame work for the analysis of women s literature and to develop new methods based on the study of female experience rather than to adopt male s models and theories. In order to diagnose the female difference, the gynocritical approach is sought to study the history, styles, themes, genres and structure of penmanship by women. • 9. Ethics In Call Of Duty War is unforgiveable. Even to the novices and the arm chair commanders whose combat experience does not extend past Call of Duty , it is clear that choosing one path over another can mean the difference between life and death for oneself and one s unit. Sometimes there is no right decision, and yet in others our own prejudices, fears, and emotions get in the way of the right decision. While the former is often the well known reality of life that is seldom overcome, the latter leads people to make the wrong decision when the right one is clear. The same can be said of the unit from the Academy Award winning 1986 film Platoon that fell victim to their own prejudices, fears, and emotions, eventually committing a number of warcrimes before the film was through. Despite the fictional nature of the film, Chris Taylor, played by Charlie Sheen, and the rest of the soldiers in his platoon are forced to face not only their own ill advised actions, but whether or not to report the illegal killing of a Vietnamese civilian. After Sergeant Elias, one of the platoon s squad leaders, reports the killing, he is killed in action under suspicious circumstances after coming face to face with the perpetrator, Staff Sergeant Barnes, the platoon sergeant. The first argument is that evolution is caused by natural selection, such as the birds of the Galapagos Islands. Because of different food made of different mouth type of bird, after the environment changed, the food source changed, causing the birds died, this is the result of natural selection. The second argument is that all creatures are genetically related. • 11. How Did Darwin Contribute To Evolution Long before Charles Darwin, other people made important contributions to the historical development of the theory of evolution. It all started in 5th century BC when early Greek philosophers characterized the origin of the natural world as by the power of nature rather than by supernatural force. They proposed the theory of evolutionto explain the basis of the natural world. Thus, evolutionary theory began with the Ionian philosopher Anaximander (611 546 BC) who proposed living beings gradually developed from water and that humans originated from animals. He proposed the world had arisen from an undifferentiated, indeterminate substance. In the 6th century BC, Xenophanes (570475 BC) developed Anaximander s theories by using fossils as... This popular doctrine of a fixed, permanent and unchanging species overruled suggested ideas of evolution. Natural theologian Carolus Linnaeus (1701 1778) was the Father of Taxonomy and he developed the two part system (genus and species) of naming organisms and grouping species into a hierarchy. He firmly believed that species were permanent and dedicated his life to classifying organisms to reveal the plan of God s creation. Through greater knowledge of the natural world, discoveries in the geological sciences greatly contributed to making Darwin s theory of evolution possible. French geologist Buffon (1707 1778) came to recognize that sedimentary rocks were laid down at different times suggesting the age of the earth. French zoologist and paleontologist Georges Cuvier (1769 1832) documented the succession of fossil species, noting the progressiveness of the fossil record however, he was opposed to evolution and argued that boundaries between organisms from different strata were cause by past catastrophic events (catastrophism). Uniformitarian, Charles Lyell (1797 1875) suggested that various geological formations on Earth resulted from the cumulative effects of slow but continuous processes over long expanses of time confirming that slow gradual changes over expansive amounts of time can yield substantial ... The Civil Service Reform ( Csr ) 1.0Introduction/ Background Improvement, change and innovation are almost constant, as the service environment remains dynamic in tune to the trend of the society. Civil service reform (CSR) is one of the most intractable yet important challenges for governments and their supporters today. However, CSR might have failed in some states; this is not to say the process is not pertinent as governments and their supporters today seize opportunities availed by the reformation. To buttress this fact, Sarah (2012) posited reformation as a tool touches not only on government s very purpose of existence, but also on some of its most sensitive, protected areas. Authors like Sarah (2012), Antwi, Analoui and Nana Agyekum (2008) subscribed to the assertion that civil service is the backbone of the state, supporting or undermining the entire system of governance. This system of governance is however open to notable modifications termed reforms, since administrative heads change, and every administrator has his/her style. In this context, Evans, (2008) cited in Sarah (2012), traced the account of CSR and broke it into three phases. The first phase took place in the 1980s. This period was characterized largely by donors supporting various aspects of institutional development realizing the civil service s crucial role in changing policy. After the collapse of Communism and the failure of many of the aid programmes of the aforementioned phase, the 1990s saw a growing consensus that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Benefit Of Space Exploration America has reaped the benefits of space exploration for sixty years, despite the open knowledge of its effects on those who enter radiation and low gravity environments. A low gravity environment is a space in which gravity, an attracting force between two masses, is lowered in a way that causes a feeling of weightlessness (Newman, Phil. What Is Gravity? ). Lowered gravity can cause gene modification and alter behavior (Shikawa, Chihiro, et al. Effects of Gravity Changes on Gene Expression of BDNF and Serotonin Receptors in the Mouse Brain. ). Despite being aware of the risk at losing her best friend, Tracy, Millicent eagerly seeks the opportunity to be part of a close knit group and as a result, she is mistreated and forced to conform to the group s narrow standards. Plath explains how being part of a social group does not necessarily help one grow individually, but rather assimilates them into what is portrayed as esteemed social status. As Millicent goes through the downgrading initiationprocess, she discovers the value of friendshipand realizes that being associated with a certain group will not help her achieve confidence in her true self. Firstly, the story introduces Millicent at the end of her grueling initiation about to be granted entry into a very prestige social group. She states her case would be different (199) implying that despite getting so far in her initiation, something changes her mind and her ultimate decision to not join the sorority. She is clearly quite proud of herself and is amused at her exclusive position being one of the elect. This sense of pride is further enhanced by her best friend, Tracy s support and encouragement. Montaigne believes a friend is another self resulting from a fusion of wills. The main focus of this paper is to assess Montaigne s philosophy and Aristotle s philosophy on their view of loveand judge which view of love is more convincing to a reasonable human being. Between Aristotle and Montaigne, Montaigne s view of love is more convincing to a reasonable human being because friendshipis more complex and complicated than categorizing friendship into different levels. Aristotle s view of love is philia, while on the other hand Montaigne s view of love is pragma. Philia is the deep comradely friendship about showing loyalty and pragma is the deep understanding between two people. Montaigne strongly believes friendship should be an unconstrained product of will, while Aristotle uses a rather categorical approach to friendship, utility, pleasure, and virtue. By making strict delineations and then using examples, he establishes a rather strict definition of friendship that is created along lines of social class. He argues, among other things, that friendship must be between similarly virtuous men of equal standing. The Theories Of The Scientific Management Theory Management, as defined by Richard Wilson, is the body of thought that seeks to explain and improve the administrative control of businesses and their employees (2016). Scientific Management Theory Considered the father of management thought, Frederick Taylor was one of the earliest theorists credited with developing and defining the theory of scientific management in the late 1800 s. His theories were designed to improve the efficiency of a factory system and worker manager relations and to prevent soldiering, which was the tendency of workers to only complete enough work to avoid being penalized or reprimanded (Biscontini, 2015). Taylor s theory stressed the importance of strict time and motion studies of the industrial process. With the development of the assembly line, such time and motion studies seemed appropriate for breaking large industrial processes down into their smallest components and then training workers to perform only one small part of the manufacturing process (Wilson, 2016). • 20. The Pardoner Of Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales Hypocrisy is a common attribute attributed to many of Chaucer s religious characters in The Canterbury Tales. They are greedy, drunks, and people without a moral code. In The Pardoner s Tale this theme is exemplified. The Pardoner is greedy and drunk. Matthew 19:24 (ESV) says, Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God. Despite this, the Pardoner s only goal is to scam as many people as he can with his pardoning of sins. The Pardoner would pretend to have objects blessed by the Vatican and sell them to people as an indulgence for future sins. It is doubtful that any of his objects had even been to Rome. Therefore, when the Pardoner starts his tale, it is one full of hypocrisyand deceit. Arguably, Chaucer s grievance was not specific to the Pardoner. Rather, Chaucer used this character to make a wider point about the corruption of religionduring the fourteenth century. During Chaucer s life, the fourteenth century, it was a common belief that outward physical attribute represents the personal attributes such as one s moral code and vices. Chaucer s first description of the Pardoner s appearance says, This pardoner hadde heer as yelow as wex. / But smothe it heeng as dooth a strike of flex; / By ounces henge his lokkes that he hadde[.] The Pardoner had thin, stringy yellow hair. The United States criminal justice system is not an institution to be underestimated, as it represents the highest incarceration rate of all world nations at a staggering 700 inmates per 100 thousand citizens (Krisberg, 7). Based on the social and political structure of democracy in the United States, it is argued that incarceration systems should follow the same roots of equality and freedom; however, the current format demonstrates otherwise. Currently, the United States criminal justicesystem faces issues of inhumane treatment due to the sheer overcrowding, which restrict inmates from just treatment within penitentiaries. This lack of equality standards was argued in the 2011 court case, Brown v. Plata, which California prisonsystems were forced to decrease prisons overcapacity rate from 175% to 137.5% due to the overwhelming amount of inmate mistreatment (Koehler, 3). In the decision of Brown v. Informal language will be introduced into formal writing due to younger generations being increasingly exposed to informal language when reading, and formal writing adapting to reflect our society which communicates informally. Children are now growing up in a society where informal language is becoming more commonplace. Classrooms around the world have adopted technology to enhance student s learning, especially in primary level schools. In Dwyer, Ringstaff and Sandholtz s 1991 article, researchers discussed how: It appeared chat children interacted with each other more frequently while working at computers. And the interactions were different the students spontaneously helped each other. They were curious about what others were doing. The doors of his black 2002 jeep were off and the top was down so the warm summer air surrounded them on their drive. The breeze swept her long blonde hair out of her freckled face and into the salty sea air. Brennan admired the way she left it to lay naturally as opposed to many other girls, but he knew she was never one to do as others did. Her bright blue eyes captivated him, drawing him in time and time again. Her face was beautifully fresh, free of any makeup or blemishes. He preferred to see her this way, anyway. She waved him on with a swift motion of her hand grasping her half eaten cone. He trudged forward, frustrated with her independence. As he reached their simple setup of two oversized beach towels on top of the scolding sand, he heard her voice echoing off of the walls of the little shack that was passed off as an ice cream parlor. Angela was thanking the man who had so pleasantly served them as she shoved a five dollar bill into his empty tip jar. She lingered under the cheap awning, asking the middle aged man questions as if they were old friends being reunited for the first time in a long time. How old is your daughter now? she asked, followed by asking questions about his daughter s future plans, the man s pets, and how he became interested in the ice cream industry as she called it. She caught Brennan looking back at her and she began to gracefully jog towards the towels. Just as he expected her to stop, she threw down her sunglasses and her oversized tee shirt. A fall however can be defined as an unexpected, involuntary loss of balance by which a person comes to rest at lower or ground level (Commodove, 1995). The older population is growing in number, and falling is common in this group up to one third of people over the age of 65 falls each year, with half reporting multiple falling episodes (Bludau and Lipsitz, 1997).
