How Did Zen Buddhism Influence Japanese Culture
Zen Buddhism was introduced to Japan in the 12th century, although it became really prevalent during
the 14th century. It accentuated enlightenment through instinct and meditation and as Zen teachings
grew through Japan its influences could also be seen in their culture. Zen principles could be seen in
Japanese art through their themes and method of illustration, and other cultural customs like the
Japanese tea ceremony. The ceremony first started in humbler forms in Zen temples as a symbol of
leaving the world to nurture the mind and spirit. The ceremony involved the ceremonial preparation,
serving, and drinking of tea.
The custom first began in China, but became something more refined in Japan, where it crested in the
Momoyama period. Around the 15th and 16th centuries The Japanese Tea Ceremony offered Japanese
a momentary break from everyday worries. The traditions spread to social groups like wealthy
merchants and the samurai. The samurai would exhibit their prized collections, Chinese objects, like
lacquers (used to decorate wood furniture), paintings, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the ceremonies became more popular, separate teahouses became more customary. The ceremony
involves an arrangement of rituals where the host and guest partake. The host would serve the guests
and also select the utensils for the ceremony like the tea bowls and water jars. The host was also
responsible for deciding the tearoom s decoration which changed depending on the occasion and
season. Tea Masters (people known as master tea ceremony experts) were recognized as having
exceptional artistic sensibilities, advised patrons on the ceremony, and also acquired students. They
oversaw and/or influenced the design of tearooms (within bigger edifices like gardens and interiors),
teahouses, and the design of the tea utensils. Some of the other objects tea masters might create

Nor Easter Crisis Case Study
In October 2011 a Nor easter storm hit Connecticut, leaving a majority of its residents without power
for weeks. The residents were alarmed by the Nor easter storm, which reported to cause the largest
number of power outages in the history of the state. Power to the People: Connecticut Light and
Power (CL P) was the major organization responsible to provide power services to the regions affected
by the storm. The October 2011 Nor easter crises were, in fact, a natural disaster that could not have
been prevented, yet CL P had eventually become the scapegoat for the damage endured by the state of
Connecticut. A company s communication strategies during a time of crises play a vital role in

The second most important priority should have been to protect and maintain its reputation, which in
this case, CL P had clearly failed. Although CL P took reasonable action in the time of crises, the
company s poor communication strategies following the Nor easter crises had influenced stakeholders
to perceive the CL P to be inefficient and unreliable. CL P and its company spokesperson, CEO and
President, Jeffrey Butler received heavy criticism for his inability to communicate to stakeholders
about the damage assessment and restoration

Dr. Stevin Gehrke s Lab
Upon arriving as a student at the University of Kansas, I immediately took an interest in numerous
extracurricular activities and organizations. I have established myself as a leader in multiple
organizations, including my role as vice president in the Biomedical Engineering Society at KU.
These organizations have provided fantastic experiences, but I found myself needing more. I found
enjoyment and success in my classes, but I was eager to apply my knowledge. I sought out positions
in various research groups on campus, and I eventually pursued an opportunity to partake in
undergraduate research involving hydrogels and their characteristics in Dr. Stevin Gehrke s lab. In this
lab, I create and characterize various polymer based hydrogels by way of click chemistry using
multiple crosslink wavelengths and times as well as varying concentrations of different monomers,
polymers, and photoinitiators. I perform mechanical assessments that include measurement of
swelling degrees and compression testing to determine various moduli for characterization of gels.
These assessments are performed to determine the most suitable gels for biomedical uses such as cell
encapsulation and drug delivery. It has been the first real opportunity I ve had to utilize my passion
and skills for important and relevant advancements in the scientific community. I have learned the
importance of laboratory safety and have implemented these practices. I have further developed basic
skills that are necessary

Women s Roles In Ancient Egyptian Women, As Nefertiti And...
Legendary women such as Nefertiti and Cleopatra are the powerful faces of Ancient Egypt that are
well known throughout the world, but the details on the lives of ordinary Egyptian women are much
more obscure. Many goddesses and other important female figures have been a prevalent topic of
study in the ancient Egyptian world, however, the knowledge of how normal women spent their days
is not nearly as common. The development of the roles and status of women in ancient Egypt as well
as their everyday lives and their impact on society was essential to the advancement of the civilization
as a whole. The richest and most primary source other than written text was the artwork that is
commonly associated with tombs; for instance, funerary models, reliefs, and wall paintings. Since men
were typically the ones who would commission and create conceptual and representational art, many
aspects of women s lives were ignored or neglected. It was also very rare for female roles to be
included in historical documents from the era because they seldom held high government positions,
even though the idea of women being in power was not unheard of or uncommon between 3,000 and
1,000 BC. This research paper will be exploring a wide variety of details in ancient Egyptian women s
lives such as marriage, domestic living, legal and political rights, religion, and women of power.
Ancient Egyptian women were granted social liberties, individual freedom, and even legal rights equal

Journaling Is A Common Practice
An old adage says that thoughts disentangle themselves when passed through the lips and across the
fingertips (Whitney 260). Thoughts clutter up our minds and need a release; for some, this is
journaling. Journaling can be defined as a practice in which one writes out a variety of things. It isn t
confined to one specific thing. It can range from daily events and struggles, to poetry, to Bible verses.
They hold a purpose in some time and place, though some may prefer one over another. Journaling has
been noted throughout the ages as being beneficial in many lives and providing a source of hope for
many, even in the most difficult times, though some others may find it harmful. Journaling does not

Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us (ESV, Ps.
62.6 8). The Psalms were like David s personal journal. It documents his feelings, mainly towards
God, and gives a commentary of the thoughts running through his mind. It clearly shows David
questioning God and going through rough patches, but it also shows moments of great delight and
times of significant triumph in his life.
Not only do Biblical figures highlight the use of journaling, but many other notable people and people
groups note journaling as a common practice in their lives. Saint Augustine, one of the most revered
figures in the church for the way he shaped the way we view Christianity today, was even known to
have kept a journal in the form of one of his most famous books, Confessions (Whitney 251). For 68
years Queen Victoria was known to have kept a daily journal (Conhaim). Also, the Puritans, the group
of people the set out to reform the English church, kept journals themselves. They were considered
highly religious and Donald Whitney notes this by saying, The fact that many Puritans kept diaries of
this kind helps to explain their pursuit of social virtue: diaries were the reckoning books in which they
checked the assets and liabilities of their souls in faith. When they opened these books, they set down
lapses of morality with appropriate expressions of faith (qtd. in Whitney 253 254). All of these people

The Day Of Deliverance, By John Adams
As we Americans approach this forthcoming Independence Day, I think of our country and how
privileged we are to have the rights we do today. Although laws and other things of that sort have been
passed for years, we continue to acquire more liberation to this day. Two hundred and thirty nine years
ago, on July 4th of 1776, it was a day of commemoration concerning the Declaration of Independence
as our nation was finally free at last from Great Britain s government. On a day near the beginning of
July, John Adams wrote the following passage to his wife, Abigail: The second day of July, 1776, will
be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated
by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of
deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and
parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this
continent to the other, from this time forward forever more. ( Letter from John Adams to Abigail
Adams, 3 July 1776, Had a Declaration... Adams Family Papers. Massachusetts Historical Society.
Retrieved June 28, 2009) John Adams was only two days short of his prediction, but his declared
sentiment saying that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations was nothing less of how
Americans still celebrate currently with dinners, toasts, fireworks, picnics, parades, and more. I think

Why Independence Is Important And How It Is Vital For The...
At MJLK, LLP we are further educating ourselves on Rule 101 of the AICPA Code of Professional
Conduct: Independence. To properly learn more about why independence is important and how it is
vital for the success of our accounting firm we analyzed the PwC Securities LLC case provided by
you. Our firm decided to focus on four key topics to hammer in the idea of independence: SEC
punishment, financial services, value added fee arrangements, and prohibited tax services.
1) SEC Punishment
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) acted in a timely and appropriate manner when
addressing the forbidden arrangements that were discovered from PwC and PwCS. Although the
punishments were deemed harsh, the repercussions were appropriate in this case. The harsh nature of
the punishments stemmed from the speculation of the SEC that PwC and Coopers Lybrand officials
were well aware that the fee arrangements that were made were banned. The AICPA and SEC govern
the rules regarding independence and conflicts of interest that may arise and these companies were
well aware of this governance and oversight prior to arranging the contingent fees. There is a distinct
breach of independence that is formed from the actions that were made, that deserves a harsh
punishment from the SEC. Without punishment from the SEC, there would be a lack of oversight with
controlling companies from making arrangements to compromise independence and properly integrate
internal controls.

Sexual Abuse And Bulimia Nervosa
Victims of sexual abuse may develop eating disorders in order to cope with their traumatic
experiences that they may have suffered from their loved one. In many cases, it has been reported that
there are larger cases of bulimia nervosa in victims of sexual abuse than anorexia nervosa. As
according to Wonderlich et al. s study, those who have been sexually assaulted as a child have some
stronger relations with bulimia nervosa than anorexia nervosa. Studies conducted by Bushmell et al.
(1992) and Pribor and Dinwiddie (1992), both found frequent cases of bulimia nervosa compared to
anorexia nervosa among the eating disorder rates of sexually abused victims. Additionally, as

Secondly, women who have been a victim of childhood sexual abuse and adult rape had even a larger
rate of eating disorders compared to those who have not (Fischer et al., 2010, pg.190). For instance, a
woman who has been sexually abused may be blamed for the incident, as many individuals in society
would claim that the woman was appealing and showing a bit too much than she should be, or the
woman was asking for the abuse to happen. In these circumstances, a woman may take these
comments really seriously towards herself and thus begin to change herself, as mentioned before, in
order to not feel guilty for what had happened. Thus, concentrating on her eating habits, which could
lead to binge eating and eventually self purging after a heavy meal to feel satisfied with herself.
Therefore, victims of sexual abuse are more likely to develop bulimia nervosa than anorexia nervosa
since the victim is able to take control and use their bulimia has an excuse to feel better about

The Medicinal Uses Of Cumin
Cumin and its medicinal uses
Cumin The spice with a magic wand
Cumin is a flowering plant which belongs to the family Apiaceae. It is native from east Mediterranean
to East India. In India Cumin is called by a different name called jeera or jira .
The spice is native to Arabic speaking Syria where cumin thrives in its hot and arid lands. The use of
cumin is very common in Indian and Pakistani foods. In India, cumin seeds are an important
component of curry powder and garam masala. Besides its culinary uses, this aromatic spice is known
for its medicinal properties since ancient times.

Insomnia, or sleeplessness, is a sleep disorder in which patients are not able to fall asleep or to stay
asleep as long as desired. Since cumin is a stimulant as well as a relaxant at the same time, it provides
relief for Insomnia patients.
This property cannot be attributed to a single component alone. Studies show that a proper intake of
vitamins (particularly Bcomplexes) and a good digestion help induce a sound sleep. Cumin helps both
of these. Some of the components of the essential oil are hypnotic in nature and have tranquilizing
effects.

The Definition of Liberty
In New York there is a 250 ton green statue dressed in a robe, holding a torch and tablet with broken
chains at the feet. In 1886, the statue was given to the United States as a gift to symbolize liberty. The
statue is the Statue of Liberty. She is dressed in a robe to symbolize the Roman goddess of freedom,
Libertas. She holds a torch and a tablet to symbolize evoking the law. Many individuals visit the
Statue of Liberty, hoping to understand what liberty means. Liberty has many interpretations and it is
not confined to one meaning. To truly understand the meaning of liberty, an individual must
understand the different types of liberties that are available to Americans. Visiting the Statue of
Liberty will not fully define the concept of what liberty truly means; an individual must understand
the definition, the characteristics, the types, and what liberty is not. First, an individual needs to
understand the definition of liberty. Liberty is derived from the Latin word Liber, which means free.
Liberty means an individual is able to to live in a society that is free of oppressive restrictions on how
to live ones life, behave, or ones political views. An individual commonly expresses liberty as:
freedom, independence, autonomy, emancipation, and liberation. Next an individual must understand
the characteristics of liberty. There are two characteristics of liberty, negative liberties and positive
liberties. Negative liberties are liberties that do not have possess

The Difference Between Bisimulation And Forced Simulation
Literature Review: The difference between Bisimulation and Forced Simulation Haowei Zheng
hzhe024@aucklanduni.ac.nz 1. INTRODUCTION
Currently, component reuse techniques have become more and more important for handling the
rapidly increasing complexities of component based embedded system. Bisimulation is a well known
technique which has been proposed in the very early stage of simulation development. It provides the
functionality of checking for process equivalent in process algebras. Many applications have been
developed by using this technique. However, there are still some issues regarding using bisimulation
technique. One specific issue is component matching problem. To better resolve this problem, a new
technique which is called forced simulation is proposed and developed. In this article, we will carry
out a literature review to discover the difference between forced simulation technique and
bisimulation technique.
In the following sections, first of all the component matching problem will be explained more
detailed. Then the definition of bisimulation and forced simulation will be shown. After that, an
example of these two different techniques will be shown for comparing the difference between them.
2. COMPONENT MATCHING PROBLEM
In component based embedded system, component reuse methodologies has been an important focus
of industry since the complexities of modern embedded system are increasing rapidly. However, there

Cuneiform History
Cuneiform was an early form of wedge shaped writing developed by ancient Sumerians around the
late 4th millennium B.C. Named after the Latin word cuneus or wedge shaped , cuneiform was
recorded on clay tablets with pointed reed sticks. Archaeologists have located many of these tablets at
various archaeological sites in modern day Iraq. Only highly educated Sumerian scribes could actually
read and write cuneiform, creating social disparities between the educated rich and the laboring poor.
Other early forms of writing, such as Akkadian, Babylonian, Assyrian, and Persian languages, were
based on the principles of cuneiform. This early language provided the roots for other written
languages all around the world (Nardo 81 84).
Ziggurats were tall pyramid shaped buildings that served as templates for local Mesopotamian gods.
With first versions built in Sumer in the later 4th millennium B.C. they evolved from a simple large
platform to intricately designed, multi story buildings. Ancient Mesopotamians saw the ziggurats as
the connection between humanity and their local god. Located in the center of Mesopotamian cities,
they symbolized the power of the gods and the priests who communicated with the gods ( Ziggurats

The Harmful Effects Of The Body
Typically when one thinks about chemicals, cleaning products come to mind, but when poison is
added to the equation the mind jumps to more dangerous items such as cyanide or acids. What is
rarely thought of is plastic, food, or even water. Many people are unaware of harmful chemicals that
are in everyday items. It is important to be aware of what enters the body because the side effects can
be harmful and in some cases deadly. Certain chemicals are not only harmful to the current generation,
but also to future ones. Avoidance is only possible with knowledge of the dangers chemicals found in
common goods present. Every single day people use, ingest or come in contact with chemicals that
they are not even aware of. Many everyday items have harmful chemicals in them that people did not
even think was possible. A large number of everyday items such as canned goods, plastic, water,
cooking ware, clothing, and even receipts can contain harmful substances. These substances are
damaging and can be fatal (Antoniades, 2013). There are also a great number of foods that are
genetically modified. Some of these foods may not be expected to be genetically modified including
corn, zucchini, yellow squash, and papayas. Most processed foods contain a chemical called
Monosodium Glutamate(MSG), but studies have revealed that MSG is the least of our problems right
now. Almost all processed foods have additives, like food dye, and have been known to cause extreme

William Shakespeare s Hamlet And King Lear
American literary critic Harold Bloom, known for his love of Shakespeare said, Shakespeare is
universal... he has hidden himself behind all of these extraordinary men and women. Shakespeare is
able to connect with many who encounter his work by creating a range of characters such as heroes in
the form of Hamlet or villains in that of Claudius. Playwright William Shakespeare s Hamlet and King
Lear demonstrate the manipulation of family to achieve one s ends. Personal gain through family is a
significant contributing factor to both of these tragedies. Their gifts of language and its delivery is a

Than that which dearest father bears his son (Hamlet 1.2.94 96, 110 111). Claudius calls Hamlet s

presentation differ from men will be discussed. Coronary heart disease is the leading cause of death in
women and men in the Western world. Nearly 1 million cardiovascular related deaths a year are
women. Many women s risk factors go unrecognized and untreated by their primary care physician
(Pregler et al., 2009). According to FamilyDoctor.org, American women are 4 to 6 times more likely
to die of heart disease that of breast cancer (2009). In generally men have an earlier onset of heart
disease than to women but have a higher survival rate from heart ... Show more content on

Current Evidence Based Status
Crimmins, Hayward, Ueda Saito and Kim in there journal article give statistical data on heart disease
and death in both women and men (2008). This article states 37 percent of men and 27 percent of
women over the age 65 report having a heart condition (Crimmins et al., 2008). Crimmins research
addresses the many differences in men with coronary artery disease compared to women with
coronary artery disease. The study noted that men have a higher mortality rate from heart disease than
do women (Crimmins et al., 2008). This article also notes that 40 50 percent of postmenopausal
women will develop heart disease (Crimmins et al., 2008). Crimmins and colleges noted men develop
heart disease 5 to 10 years earlier in life than do women ( 2008). Evidence suggests that women who
are hospitalized for cardiovascular issues are less likely to receive certain types of drugs and
diagnostic and treatment procedures (Crimmins et al., 2008). Low socio economic status and poor
educational levels also have a marked effect on men and women s knowledge of cardiovascular
disease and the timing of when they seek treatment (Hemingway, 2007). Crimmins and colleges in
their study results noted, on average, the onset for heart disease in men is around 50 to 70 years of age
and 73 years of age for women (Crimmins et al., 2008). There is also marked evidence that many

Spirituality In The Ten Principal Virtues Of The Blessed...
One of the ten principal virtues of the Blessed Virgin Mary is continual mental prayer. During her life,
the Blessed Mother was constantly in tune with God s will. Every morning she woke up thinking
about God, she thought about Him continually throughout the day, and she went to bed thinking about
Him. She was the new Eve, who possessed the same preternatural gifts that Adam and Eve possessed
before they sinned.
As a reminder, in addition to an immortal soul, God gave our first parents, Adam and Eve, the
preternatural gifts of integrity, bodily immortality, and infused knowledge. The definition of
preternatural is that which is beyond the natural but is not strictly supernatural.
The preternatural gift of integrity (the absence of concupiscence) gave Adam and Eve the natural
ability to control their desires and passions. Although they could be tempted from outside forces, they
could not be tempted from within. The preternatural gift of bodily immortality meant that Adam and
Eve possessed bodies that would never die. The preternatural gift of infused knowledge meant that
they did not have to study, work, or sacrifice to obtain knowledge. They were created with some
knowledge of God and complete knowledge of the secular world.
It was the first sin of Adam and Eve that destroyed the preternatural gifts of integrity, bodily
immortality, and infused knowledge. From then on, every person who has come into existence has
been conceived without the preternatural gifts, except for

Terrestrial Isopods
METHODS
Study Site and Species Isopods (Armadillidium vulgare) can be found universally in nearly every
temperate climate under natural debris (CITE). Terrestrial isopods do not contain a waxy cuticle on
their exoskeleton, making them more susceptible to suffer water loss through their water permeable
exoskeleton (CITE). A. vulgare uses the permeable exoskeleton to also excrete one form of
nitrogenous waste, while the other form is excreted through uric acid (CITE). Experimental Design
The experiment was performed testing two independent variables, light and soil moisture. A
constructed box was split into six equal sections, occurring one right after the next, and dividers with
cutouts were placed in between each section. A tall divider was placed after the third section,
separating half of the sections from each other. The experiment was designed to test both light and
water moisture at the same to ensure that other temperature and air pressure would not become a ...

A random amount of soil, 40.00 grams, was chosen to be consistent throughout each section of the
entire experiment. To gauge how much water would be needed to saturate the soil to 100%, two times
as much water was added to the soil, or 80 ml, and the mixture was stirred together. After waiting 1
minute, excess water was poured off, repeating the cycle until no more water was found to be pooling
on the soil. The mixture was weighed and the original mass of the soil was subtracted from the current
mass, producing the mass of the water at 100% saturation, or 61.25 ml. Sixty one and one quarter mL
was then multiplied by 0.25, 0.50, and 0.75 respectively to produce the amounts of water that would
represent the soil at 25%, 50%, and 75% water saturation. These percentages were chosen because the
extreme percentages, 0% and 100% saturation would have been avoided by the isopods

How Did Ancient Egypt Wear Makeup
Egyptian Makeup
The Egyptians are thought to be the first civilization to wear makeup. Egyptian makeup was used for
various reasons, including to denote social status and simply to improve the appearance. A substance
called unguent was applied to the skin as a moisturizer to protect it from the elements and discourage
wrinkles. Sometimes the unguent was scented. Various oils were also used to improve the skin. Both
men and women used cosmetics in ancient Egypt, with the most common look being a white face with
rimmed eyes and red lips.
Kohl was made from soot, manganese or carbon. It was applied around the eyes with a small stick that
served as the world s first makeup applicator. Sometimes, green colored makeup was used. This green

Black Writers of the 20th Century Essay
Literature has played an important role in society throughout history, the written word being a
powerful tool in communicating ideas. This became even more important during the 20th century,
when many people were trying to persuade others or share their emotions and histories. The black
movements in the United States made use of this tool, many authors coming out and becoming part of
the fabric of society. Three authors in particular, Ralph Ellison, Langston Hughes, and Richard Wright
became some of the most influential and important writers of the 20th century, owing to their own
history and life experiences to give life and meaning to their works. Ralph Ellison is one of the more
influential writers of the early 20th century in North ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not having a stable life, he moved around a lot as a child, taking many different jobs in an effort to
help his family make ends meet. By the time he was 13, he was getting interested in literature and

Wright his first publication as an author and opening him up to the world of writing in the early 20th
century. The most well known of the three black authors, Langston Hughes is mentioned as an
influence on many other authors, including Ralph Ellison and Richard Wright, among others. Born in
Joplin, Missouri on 1 February 1902, Hughes was unfortunate to see in life to see so much separation
and strife in his family. His parents were divorced when he was still very young, causing him to live
with his grandmother until he was 13, at which point he went on to Lincoln, Illinois to live with his
mother, and then eventually moved on to Cleveland, Ohio. By 1924, he relocated to Washington D.C.
Where he became an important part of the Harlem Renaissance. He began his college education at
Columbia University, took a hiatus where he wrote a book of poetry, then completed his remaining
three years at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania. Hughes would later go on to become a very well

If you re looking for a low maintenance, short hairstyle, consider a military style buzz cut. While this
is associated with the military, many men in all walks of life are choosing this look. This is a simple
style to create and maintain. You don t have to go to a fancy or expensive hair stylist for a crew cut.
You can go to any old fashioned barber to get this hairstyle for a reasonable price. And because there s

Radical hairstyles, like a Mohawk, are not a good idea if you work in a bank or for an insurance

conservative look, though, feel free to try something a little more daring. You can look at pictures of
different hairstyles and try to imagine how they d look on you. Make sure the style you choose is one
you ll be comfortable with and that fits with your lifestyle. The Caesar cut is also a popular short style
among men. While not every man with this cut refers to it by that name, this is a short style that is
similar to how Julius Caesar is depicted in statues. If you want to know what this looks like, look at
pictures or movies of George Clooney in the 1990s, as this is the style he favored back then. The
Caesar cut is a simple style because the hair is short and even all over the head. This style may be very

Myth Of The Jezebel Myth
During the early 1500s and throughout the early 1900s, slavery was committed by white men, against
African Americans in order to maintain white supremacy. Slavery consisted of farming, working hard
labor, and turning African Americans into servant by their white owners. Enslaved African Americans
would not receive any form of money for hard labor because black men and women were thought of
as property. Black enslaved and freed men and women were also raped by both white men and
women, because white people believed that black people were hypersexual. Many white men believed
that it was impossible to rape a black woman because the belief was that black women were inherently
rapeable (Block 141).
One of the myths that reflected the belief that black women were inherently rapeable was the Jezebel
myth. When white men first visited Africa, they noticed that black women wore little to no clothes
because of the hot African heat, therefore created the believe that all black women were sexually
submissive (29). Deborah White states that white men believed that... [black women] invited sexual
overtures from white men, and that any resistance they displayed was mere feigning. (30). This is how
the Jezebel myth came into play. Jezebel was characterized as the opposite of the mid nineteenth
Victorian lady and were defined as sexual beings (29). By creating a believe that black enslaved
women wanted to be raped by white men not only created a sense of power to white men but it was

Lille Tisages
1. Should Lille Tissages lower the price to FF15? (Assume no intermediate prices are being
considered)
My recommendation for Lille Tissages would be to keep their prices at the current FF20 and not to
lower it back to FF15 again. While creating my analysis (which is based on the financial data in
Appendix1), I considered the following angles:
a) Profits. From profit angle, the scenario is straightforward, at any given volume, based on the
estimation from the financial director, the profit would be higher by keeping the price at FF20. In fact,
as per presented projection, FF15 will never reach BEP and won t make profit at all (in fact it makes
loss), while FF20 will always produce profit, even at the suggested very low volume (which ... Show

Likewise, there is no certainty that keeping the FF20 price will result 40% drop on the customer
volumes, especially if we consider the market conditions, also mentioned just above.
2. If the department that produces Item 345 was a profit center and if you were the manager of that
department, would it be to your financial advantage to lower the price?
No, it wouldn t. If I m the manager of a profit center, my primary goal is to create profit within the
boundaries of my department, and given the current conditions, this is not possible with FF15. So, if
the only choices are FF20 and FF15, I would stick with FF20.
However, if I really were in a real life situation, I would make the following suggestions:
a) bring down the costs and make the fabric profitable even at the price of FF15, and much more
profitable at FF20. Material, material spoilage, direct labour and direct department expenses are not
the ones I can achieve any savings, these are already as lean as possible (considering the current
equipment; the future modernisation might change this picture). Indirect department costs (the only
fixed ones) are already scaling down nicely as the production volumes are raising, so that area is again
not the one I should concentrate on. General overhead varies only very

Drug Arrests on College Campuses
Drug arrests on college campuses have become an escalating issue around the United States for
several years. Rehabs.com is said to be a website that aids people overcome their addictions. I will get
into more detail about this later in the paper. This same website conducted a study about colleges that
included the most on campus arrests, including those who occur in the residence halls. This was
known as the rehabs.com report. This report was led by the Drugs on Campus Head Jon Millward.
This report concludes that College at Oneonta in New York State tops the list in drug arrests on
college campuses around the nation. Other SUNY colleges are mentioned in this report as well. SUNY
schools include SUNY Fredonia, SUNY Oswego, SUNY Geneseo, SUNY Albany and a few others as
well. In this paper I will primarily discuss in depth three main issues associated with the report and
why these make the report very controversial. One point that I will be arguing in this paper will be that
the report lacks an author and a publisher. Validity is not present in a report where the author and the
publisher is missing. It makes us think that the information is unreliable, since it is unclear as to where
it came from. The second point that I will be addressing is that I will discuss the importance of social
media. The media has also many uses as well, such as to keep close contact with friends and to
distribute information online quickly. The rehabs.com report was widely covered by the media,

Catechol Oxidase Enzyme Lab
The Influence of pH and Temperature on Enzyme Activity
Madeline Foy

Professor Himes
April 12, 2016
Abstract In order to see the effects of pH and temperature on the enzymatic reaction of catechol
oxidase when separated from potato tissue. We used a spectrophotometer to measure how much blue
light energy is absorbed by benzoquinone. Benzoquinone is a product of catechol when it has been
oxidized by different temperatures and pHs. We hypothesized that the benzoquinone absorbance rate
would be faster when the pH added to the cuvettes were greater than the pH of the potato tissue. The
pH of the potato tissue was pH 6. Our results show that pH 7 had the faster absorbance rate, slightly
slower at pH 4, and slowest at pH ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Our hypothesis states that the benzoquinone absorbance rate would be faster when the pH added to the
cuvettes were greater than the pH of the potato tissue. At pH 7, reaction rates were the fastest, but not
at pH 10 like we predicted. We predicted that pH 4 would have the slowest to no reaction rate, but it
was faster than pH 10 because the potato tissue has a pH 6 and the pH 4 was closest to the pH of the
potato tissue. A possible reason our hypothesis was only partially supported was because of possible
cross contamination when preparing the cuvettes by not using different disposable pipets for each pH
solution, or the test tubes could have been labeled wrong which caused them to be mixed up. In future
experiments, we should look at the effects of pHs closer to the pH of the potato tissue because we can
infer that closer pHs to the pH of potato tissue will have a faster reaction rate causing the potatoes to
turn brown

Similarities Between Mary Wollstonecraft And Jane Austen
Mary Wollstonecraft and Jane Austen lived in an era when society dictated the roles of men and
women. During the 19th century, marriage between a Middle Class, educated male, and a pretty
uneducated female was common, often leading to the idea that men were more intelligent than
women. Neither Austen nor Wollstonecraft believed women were less capable of achieving an
education. Wollstonecraft and Austen perpetuated the idea of education in parallel ways. Their
writings never indicating one being familiar with the other, but their published works often
foreshadowed a growing opinion favoring female education and rights. In fact, both authors
acknowledged the notion of women being trapped into seeking meal ticket husbands by societal
standards, which did not afford women the luxury of an education. After researching the political
opinions of Jane Austen and Mary Wollstonecraft, it is evident that both women believed females had
the capacity to care for themselves, as men were able, yet both women remain

Marigolds By Eugenia Collier Analysis
Marigolds by Eugenia Collier is a personal narrative of the challenges that adolescents face with
coming of age. The author is able to accurately capture the voice of her younger self using literary
devices such as imagery, juxtaposition, and diction. The author uses these literary devices to give the
reader a precise representation of the struggles she surpassed, which pushed her towards adulthood.
The first literary device the author uses to communicate the endeavors of childhood is juxtaposition.
For example, Eugenia Collier uses juxtaposition to compare her memories of poverty and sadness to
her memories absence of wealth and fortune, When I think of the home town of my youth, all that I

ignorance of immaturity and a brilliant use of imagery. Collier creates the scene using descriptive
words and attaches them to the reader s mind, one can see the torrid flowers and disfigured house.
These images capture the author s feelings of disarray and discombobulation, which all contribute to
Eugenia Collier s voice. These feelings lead to the character uprising to adulthood. The last literary
device Eugenia Collier exercises to deepen her sensation of despair and disgrace is diction. Collier
influences her words to carve her emotions into the reader, one can sense the feelings of puzzlement
and the irascibleness it evokes. For instance, in this quote the reader can grasp Eugenia s voice

toward destruction. This quotes reveals the emotions the author choice to seal

Labor Rights In The Crucible
Arthur Miller s play, The Crucible, takes place during the events of the Salem Witch trials in 1692.
Miller states in his opening: When a man rises above the individual villainy displayed, one can only
pity them all, just as we shall be pitied someday. It is impossible for man to organize himself without
repression, and the balance has yet to be struck between order and freedom. Miller s parallels between
Salem of 1692 and America of the 1950s apply to present day American society in racism, sexism, and
workers rights. Children rely on their parents to nurture them as other mammalian offspring do on
theirs. However, without the labor rights activists fighting against excessive working hour
requirements, child labor, and minimal pay, most American children would be facing adult
responsibilities such as paying for utility bills and meals, and would have minimal parent child
relationships. Labor rights activists were suppressed by powerful corporations or companies and
corrupt politicians, just as Miller stated, It is impossible for man to organize himself without
repression, and the balance has yet to be struck between order and freedom. However, the Labor

  • 2. How Did Zen Buddhism Influence Japanese Culture Zen Buddhism was introduced to Japan in the 12th century, although it became really prevalent during the 14th century. It accentuated enlightenment through instinct and meditation and as Zen teachings grew through Japan its influences could also be seen in their culture. Zen principles could be seen in Japanese art through their themes and method of illustration, and other cultural customs like the Japanese tea ceremony. The ceremony first started in humbler forms in Zen temples as a symbol of leaving the world to nurture the mind and spirit. The ceremony involved the ceremonial preparation, serving, and drinking of tea. The custom first began in China, but became something more refined in Japan, where it crested in the Momoyama period. Around the 15th and 16th centuries The Japanese Tea Ceremony offered Japanese a momentary break from everyday worries. The traditions spread to social groups like wealthy merchants and the samurai. The samurai would exhibit their prized collections, Chinese objects, like lacquers (used to decorate wood furniture), paintings, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the ceremonies became more popular, separate teahouses became more customary. The ceremony involves an arrangement of rituals where the host and guest partake. The host would serve the guests and also select the utensils for the ceremony like the tea bowls and water jars. The host was also responsible for deciding the tearoom s decoration which changed depending on the occasion and season. Tea Masters (people known as master tea ceremony experts) were recognized as having exceptional artistic sensibilities, advised patrons on the ceremony, and also acquired students. They oversaw and/or influenced the design of tearooms (within bigger edifices like gardens and interiors), teahouses, and the design of the tea utensils. Some of the other objects tea masters might create include bamboo tools and ceramic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Nor Easter Crisis Case Study In October 2011 a Nor easter storm hit Connecticut, leaving a majority of its residents without power for weeks. The residents were alarmed by the Nor easter storm, which reported to cause the largest number of power outages in the history of the state. Power to the People: Connecticut Light and Power (CL P) was the major organization responsible to provide power services to the regions affected by the storm. The October 2011 Nor easter crises were, in fact, a natural disaster that could not have been prevented, yet CL P had eventually become the scapegoat for the damage endured by the state of Connecticut. A company s communication strategies during a time of crises play a vital role in maintaining its reputation. Failing to communicate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second most important priority should have been to protect and maintain its reputation, which in this case, CL P had clearly failed. Although CL P took reasonable action in the time of crises, the company s poor communication strategies following the Nor easter crises had influenced stakeholders to perceive the CL P to be inefficient and unreliable. CL P and its company spokesperson, CEO and President, Jeffrey Butler received heavy criticism for his inability to communicate to stakeholders about the damage assessment and restoration ... • 4. Dr. Stevin Gehrke s Lab Upon arriving as a student at the University of Kansas, I immediately took an interest in numerous extracurricular activities and organizations. I have established myself as a leader in multiple organizations, including my role as vice president in the Biomedical Engineering Society at KU. These organizations have provided fantastic experiences, but I found myself needing more. I found enjoyment and success in my classes, but I was eager to apply my knowledge. I sought out positions in various research groups on campus, and I eventually pursued an opportunity to partake in undergraduate research involving hydrogels and their characteristics in Dr. Stevin Gehrke s lab. In this lab, I create and characterize various polymer based hydrogels by way of click chemistry using multiple crosslink wavelengths and times as well as varying concentrations of different monomers, polymers, and photoinitiators. I perform mechanical assessments that include measurement of swelling degrees and compression testing to determine various moduli for characterization of gels. These assessments are performed to determine the most suitable gels for biomedical uses such as cell encapsulation and drug delivery. It has been the first real opportunity I ve had to utilize my passion and skills for important and relevant advancements in the scientific community. I have learned the importance of laboratory safety and have implemented these practices. I have further developed basic skills that are necessary ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Women s Roles In Ancient Egyptian Women, As Nefertiti And... Legendary women such as Nefertiti and Cleopatra are the powerful faces of Ancient Egypt that are well known throughout the world, but the details on the lives of ordinary Egyptian women are much more obscure. Many goddesses and other important female figures have been a prevalent topic of study in the ancient Egyptian world, however, the knowledge of how normal women spent their days is not nearly as common. The development of the roles and status of women in ancient Egypt as well as their everyday lives and their impact on society was essential to the advancement of the civilization as a whole. The richest and most primary source other than written text was the artwork that is commonly associated with tombs; for instance, funerary models, reliefs, and wall paintings. Since men were typically the ones who would commission and create conceptual and representational art, many aspects of women s lives were ignored or neglected. It was also very rare for female roles to be included in historical documents from the era because they seldom held high government positions, even though the idea of women being in power was not unheard of or uncommon between 3,000 and 1,000 BC. This research paper will be exploring a wide variety of details in ancient Egyptian women s lives such as marriage, domestic living, legal and political rights, religion, and women of power. Ancient Egyptian women were granted social liberties, individual freedom, and even legal rights equal to those of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Journaling Is A Common Practice An old adage says that thoughts disentangle themselves when passed through the lips and across the fingertips (Whitney 260). Thoughts clutter up our minds and need a release; for some, this is journaling. Journaling can be defined as a practice in which one writes out a variety of things. It isn t confined to one specific thing. It can range from daily events and struggles, to poetry, to Bible verses. They hold a purpose in some time and place, though some may prefer one over another. Journaling has been noted throughout the ages as being beneficial in many lives and providing a source of hope for many, even in the most difficult times, though some others may find it harmful. Journaling does not necessarily have a specific ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us (ESV, Ps. 62.6 8). The Psalms were like David s personal journal. It documents his feelings, mainly towards God, and gives a commentary of the thoughts running through his mind. It clearly shows David questioning God and going through rough patches, but it also shows moments of great delight and times of significant triumph in his life. Not only do Biblical figures highlight the use of journaling, but many other notable people and people groups note journaling as a common practice in their lives. Saint Augustine, one of the most revered figures in the church for the way he shaped the way we view Christianity today, was even known to have kept a journal in the form of one of his most famous books, Confessions (Whitney 251). For 68 years Queen Victoria was known to have kept a daily journal (Conhaim). Also, the Puritans, the group of people the set out to reform the English church, kept journals themselves. They were considered highly religious and Donald Whitney notes this by saying, The fact that many Puritans kept diaries of this kind helps to explain their pursuit of social virtue: diaries were the reckoning books in which they checked the assets and liabilities of their souls in faith. When they opened these books, they set down lapses of morality with appropriate expressions of faith (qtd. in Whitney 253 254). All of these people kept a journal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Day Of Deliverance, By John Adams As we Americans approach this forthcoming Independence Day, I think of our country and how privileged we are to have the rights we do today. Although laws and other things of that sort have been passed for years, we continue to acquire more liberation to this day. Two hundred and thirty nine years ago, on July 4th of 1776, it was a day of commemoration concerning the Declaration of Independence as our nation was finally free at last from Great Britain s government. On a day near the beginning of July, John Adams wrote the following passage to his wife, Abigail: The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more. ( Letter from John Adams to Abigail Adams, 3 July 1776, Had a Declaration... Adams Family Papers. Massachusetts Historical Society. Retrieved June 28, 2009) John Adams was only two days short of his prediction, but his declared sentiment saying that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations was nothing less of how Americans still celebrate currently with dinners, toasts, fireworks, picnics, parades, and more. • 8. Why Independence Is Important And How It Is Vital For The... At MJLK, LLP we are further educating ourselves on Rule 101 of the AICPA Code of Professional Conduct: Independence. To properly learn more about why independence is important and how it is vital for the success of our accounting firm we analyzed the PwC Securities LLC case provided by you. Our firm decided to focus on four key topics to hammer in the idea of independence: SEC punishment, financial services, value added fee arrangements, and prohibited tax services. 1) SEC Punishment The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) acted in a timely and appropriate manner when addressing the forbidden arrangements that were discovered from PwC and PwCS. Although the punishments were deemed harsh, the repercussions were appropriate in this case. The harsh nature of the punishments stemmed from the speculation of the SEC that PwC and Coopers Lybrand officials were well aware that the fee arrangements that were made were banned. The AICPA and SEC govern the rules regarding independence and conflicts of interest that may arise and these companies were well aware of this governance and oversight prior to arranging the contingent fees. There is a distinct breach of independence that is formed from the actions that were made, that deserves a harsh punishment from the SEC. Without punishment from the SEC, there would be a lack of oversight with controlling companies from making arrangements to compromise independence and properly integrate internal controls. Just as Emerson sat in solitude while exploring his thoughts about the importance of self reliance, Hopper did the same thing by depicted scenes of introspection and reflection. During the outset of his career, his style lacked the American aesthetic. Whirl he was studying at the New York School of Art and Design, he built a relationship with his professor and fellow realist artist Robert Henri. In many cases, it has been reported that there are larger cases of bulimia nervosa in victims of sexual abuse than anorexia nervosa. As according to Wonderlich et al. s study, those who have been sexually assaulted as a child have some stronger relations with bulimia nervosa than anorexia nervosa. Studies conducted by Bushmell et al. For instance, a woman who has been sexually abused may be blamed for the incident, as many individuals in society would claim that the woman was appealing and showing a bit too much than she should be, or the woman was asking for the abuse to happen. In these circumstances, a woman may take these comments really seriously towards herself and thus begin to change herself, as mentioned before, in order to not feel guilty for what had happened. INTRODUCTION Currently, component reuse techniques have become more and more important for handling the rapidly increasing complexities of component based embedded system. Bisimulation is a well known technique which has been proposed in the very early stage of simulation development. It provides the functionality of checking for process equivalent in process algebras. Many applications have been developed by using this technique. However, there are still some issues regarding using bisimulation technique. One specific issue is component matching problem. To better resolve this problem, a new technique which is called forced simulation is proposed and developed. In this article, we will carry out a literature review to discover the difference between forced simulation technique and bisimulation technique. In the following sections, first of all the component matching problem will be explained more detailed. Then the definition of bisimulation and forced simulation will be shown. After that, an example of these two different techniques will be shown for comparing the difference between them. 2. Named after the Latin word cuneus or wedge shaped , cuneiform was recorded on clay tablets with pointed reed sticks. Archaeologists have located many of these tablets at various archaeological sites in modern day Iraq. Only highly educated Sumerian scribes could actually read and write cuneiform, creating social disparities between the educated rich and the laboring poor. Other early forms of writing, such as Akkadian, Babylonian, Assyrian, and Persian languages, were based on the principles of cuneiform. This early language provided the roots for other written languages all around the world (Nardo 81 84). Ziggurats were tall pyramid shaped buildings that served as templates for local Mesopotamian gods. With first versions built in Sumer in the later 4th millennium B.C. they evolved from a simple large platform to intricately designed, multi story buildings. Every morning she woke up thinking about God, she thought about Him continually throughout the day, and she went to bed thinking about Him. She was the new Eve, who possessed the same preternatural gifts that Adam and Eve possessed before they sinned. As a reminder, in addition to an immortal soul, God gave our first parents, Adam and Eve, the preternatural gifts of integrity, bodily immortality, and infused knowledge. The preternatural gift of integrity (the absence of concupiscence) gave Adam and Eve the natural ability to control their desires and passions. Although they could be tempted from outside forces, they could not be tempted from within. The preternatural gift of bodily immortality meant that Adam and Eve possessed bodies that would never die. The preternatural gift of infused knowledge meant that they did not have to study, work, or sacrifice to obtain knowledge. They were created with some knowledge of God and complete knowledge of the secular world. Slavery consisted of farming, working hard labor, and turning African Americans into servant by their white owners. Enslaved African Americans would not receive any form of money for hard labor because black men and women were thought of as property. Black enslaved and freed men and women were also raped by both white men and women, because white people believed that black people were hypersexual. We used a spectrophotometer to measure how much blue light energy is absorbed by benzoquinone. Benzoquinone is a product of catechol when it has been oxidized by different temperatures and pHs. We predicted that pH 4 would have the slowest to no reaction rate, but it was faster than pH 10 because the potato tissue has a pH 6 and the pH 4 was closest to the pH of the potato tissue. A possible reason our hypothesis was only partially supported was because of possible cross contamination when preparing the cuvettes by not using different disposable pipets for each pH solution, or the test tubes could have been labeled wrong which caused them to be mixed up.
