The Long Walk was the forced removal of the Navajo people, which began in January 1864 in the
Arizona and New Mexico states. It was hardly recognized by Americans at the time because of the
Civil War and the slavery issues that were so much more important in the North and South part of the
country. The Long Walk is the Navajo Nation s own Trail of Tears . More than 8,500 Navajo men,
women, and children were forced to relocate to an internment camp in New Mexico called the Bosque
Redondo Reservation. The Navajo and some Apache were gathered from Arizona and New Mexico
and had to walk between 375 498 miles depending on which route they took (Remley, pg 230). Along
the way, about 200 people died. Once there the military found that twice the number of people that

Over the last several years, most police departments have been facing numerous financial challenges.
The main reason is law enforcement agencies are expected to do more with less and the stagnant
economy. The combination of these factors has been placing pressure on many departments to begin
imposing budget cuts. Evidence of this can be seen with a survey that was conducted by the
University of North Carolina. They found that 67% of police departments made some kind of budget
cuts for 2011. The most severe reductions were occurring in large police departments such as Los
Angeles, Atlanta and Detroit. (Delfem, 2011, pp. 199 205) This is illustrating one of the most pressing
issues affecting a wide variety of police departments across the country. To fully understand what is
happening requires: examining the situation, how they are able to interact with other agencies (i.e.
state / federal) and recommending the way this relationship can be improved. Together, these elements
will offer specific insights about how police departments can effectively address this problem.

owner, captain and others aboard included natural disasters due to weather and navigation, attacks by
pirates or competing trading countries, slave rebellions, and diseases as mentioned before. The
weather and natural disasters is not widely cited as a great risk to these voyages. Nonetheless, it is
imperative in the analysis if we are trying to capture a complete picture of the supply line of slaves to
the colonies. At the very start of the trade in 1514, voyages only crossed the Southern Atlantic Ocean,
but as the trade grew by 1650, and slaves started to be shipped to North America and some to Europe,
as shown in figure 2, captains also had to face the rough conditions that came with sailing the northern

I think that this is at times is habitually true. In the case of Hitler he was mostly vicious to others;

Since I was in middle school, I have always had the bad habit of biting my nails. In the past, I have
attempted to stop. I have tried to get acrylic nails, but I just ended up biting those too. I even made it
my New Year s resolution one year. So far, nothing has been successful. I would like to take this
opportunity to try and stop biting my nails once and for all.

I will attempt to use the operant conditioning method to stop biting my nails. I will reward my self by
adding a dollar to my manicure fund for each day I am successful in not biting my nails. I will also
plan to bring a stress ball to work and class. When I feel the urge to bite my nails, I will squeeze the
stress ball instead. I will replace my nail biting habit with using the stress ball.
During the first week, I earned 5 dollars. I slipped up and started to bite my nails during one of my
classes. I didn t even realize I was doing it for about 5 minutes. I also slipped up another day while
doing homework. I was successful in bringing my stress ball with me to class and work, but did not
find myself using it too often. I think I need to make more of an effort to take it out when I am at my
desk or in class.
After 19 days, I have earned the $14 I need treat myself to a manicure. Although it took me longer
than I had hoped for, I am very proud of myself for completing my first goal. Now, I hope to continue
with the system and treat myself to another manicure in 2 weeks. Although I would not consider this a
complete success, I have certainly improved on biting my nails less than I did before this exercise.
