Comparing the Works of Norman Rockwell and Gary Soto
Family happiness is something that many today focus on as an absolute requirement for happy and
healthy growth in children. And indeed, it is right that this should be so. In reality, however,
challenges such as poverty and racism often affect the happiness that families might experience. When
comparing the works created by Norman Rockwell and Gary Soto, however, it becomes clear that
family happiness is not so much dependent upon wealth as it is upon freedom of expression and
freedom from fear. At first glance, the family in Rockwell s painting appears quite happy, with the
father and mother both smiling at the sleepy children. The children also seem peaceful and warm in
their bed, and the room appears secure and solid against any elements that might attack from outside.
This is, however, where the sense of overprotection begins to reveal itself. The overprotected nature of
the children s life is revealed in several visual elements in the painting. First, and most obvious, the
mother leans over the children as she puts them to bed. The father also stands close, looking down at
them, with a fond smile on his face. While it is clear that they love their children, the parents physical
orientation towards their children can be said to hover. Another interesting element in this regard is
that the father accompanies the process of putting the children to bed. He stands next to his wife as she
works with the children. He does not help, but gives the impression that his

Organized Religion Exposed in Richard Wright s Native Son
If the United States were to adopt a Communist government, it would be a better country. If
Americans were to dispose of religion, they would be content people. If Richard Wright were to
complete an assignment regarding the context of his novel, Native Son, the aforementioned arguments
would be his focus. Wright, like all Marxists, believes that religion is the opiate of the masses,
providing a surreal dream world with negative side effects. The representation of organized religion in
Native Son supports Wright s highly atheistic, Communistic views and his aspirations for the United
States. By negatively using conventional religious symbols, such as the cross, prayer, God, ... Show

Although Bigger s character refutes the concept of religion, Wright compares him to a struggling Jesus
Christ throughout the novel; society is to learn from Bigger s example that capitalism is the core evil
of the country, just as Christians look to Christ to delineate between sin and salvation. Bigger s
interactions with the Daltons mirror those of Jesus throughout the Stations of the Cross. Bigger s
initial visit to the Dalton home foreshadows his death because the setting mimics that of the
crucifixion; all at once...the sky [turns] black (48), as it does while Jesus hangs upon the cross on
Good Friday. When Bigger first visits the Dalton home, he slip[s] back (51) into his chair, just as Jesus
falls while carrying his cross to Mount Calvary; this scene represents the persecution in store for
Bigger by those families who, like the Daltons, consider themselves religious. Even during the murder
and burning of the body of Mary Dalton, Bigger s actions parallel Christ s. Similar to Christ s struggle
with the cross upon his back, Bigger stoop[s] and ca[tches] the strap of Mary s trunk and carrie[s] it
downstairs (103) with her body inside, and the murder of Mary becomes Bigger s cross, upon which
he is executed.
Similarly, prayer reappears within Native Son in order to prove the unimportance of God and the
ineffectiveness of belief. The rat remains dead

Water Hardness Of Salt Concentration Essay
Introduction The key to life is water. The only known planet to have stable bodies of water to support
life is Earth.1 All water however, is not pure H2O. Water often times has other compounds and
chemicals mixed with it including salts. Over time plants and animals have adapted to how much salt
it can consume and survive.1 These lifeforms that adapted to low salt concentrations live in freshwater
habitats. Freshwater typically has a salt concentration of less than 1%.2 Although sometimes low, the
salts that are most commonly found in water are formed with the cations Ca2+ and Mg2+.3 Water
hardness is a measure of the concentration of calcium and/or magnesium ions in water.3 Water
becomes hard as it drains through limestone, dolomite and other minerals. A high concentration of
these ions results in a hard water sample, while a low concentration is soft.4 Water hardness is
important in that it can cause many problems. The equation below shows how calcium can create
problems.
Calcium bicarbonate → Calcium carbonate + Water + Carbon dioxide
Ca(HCO3)2 → CaCO3 + H2O + CO2 3
Calcium carbonate, also known as scale,is sometimes referred to as one of the banes of industry 4. The
formation of scale blocks pipes and tubes4 and is the culprit behind the hated bathtub rings.3 To fix
these problems, it is important to understand water hardness. Water hardness can be determined in
many ways. EDTA titrations and atomic absorbance spectroscopy (AA) are the most

Comparison Of The Catcher In The Rye By J. D. Salinger
On January 1, 1919, Jerome David Salinger the author of the iconic novel, The Catcher in the Rye was
born in Manhattan, New York. After receiving national attention for his masterpiece, Salinger became
somewhat of a hermit and led a reclusive life. For a reserved individual, such as J.D. Salinger, what
more suitable way is there to illustrate his own life experiences than a tale of a teenager who entices
the reader through his unique view of the world? Without a doubt, there are multiple parallels that can
be drawn between the lives of Holden and the author himself. In his younger days, J.D. Salinger
attended multiple public schools in Manhattan until his parents decided to enroll him at the McBurney
School, an exclusive private school for ninth and tenth graders. J.D. would flunk out of this school just
as Holden had flunked out of Pencey. According to Holden, there were A million reasons why. It was
one of the worst schools I ever went to. It was full of phonies. And mean guys. You never saw so
many mean guys in your life. (167). Even though the circumstances of Holden s and Salinger s
unceremonious exits from Pencey and McBurney respectively, were eerily similar, the school that
Salinger would be sent to the next and eventually graduate from Valley Forge Military Academy
would become the blueprint for Pencey Prep as it appeared in The Catcher in the Rye. The
arrangement of Pencey s dormitories was derived from Valley Forge. There was even a boy named

Psychological Contract in the 21st Century
What is the psychological contract? Examine to what extent it is applicable in the 21st century.

Psychological Contract is an abstract contract that affects both employers and employees, a subtle
contract without speaking or writing, contains assumptions and expectations from each party towards
the other (Rousseau 1989). Compared to the past centuries, people tend to change jobs frequently and
pay more attention to employees rights. It is a critical element in human resource management and
plays a big role in modern society. This essay has been organized in the following way. At first, this

Joe, M.C.et al. (2011) demonstrated that employees would engage more organizational undesirable
behaviors when they noticed the mutual exchange relationship has changed or disrupted. In addition, a
series of problems would come while there is a psychological contract breach in the company.
Psychological contracts affect companies on both positive and negative sides. It is true that companies
focus on building good psychological contracts between employers and employees by developing
their strategic training practices to fulfill their goals successfully. On the contrary, Sim (1994) stated in
his research that,
A balanced psychological contract is necessary for a continuing, harmonious relationship between the
employee and the organization. However, the violation of the psychological contract can signal to the
participants that the parties no longer share (or have never shared)a common set of values or goals.
From what he suggested, the negative effect is a tough problem when the contract breaks. However, as
Conway, N.et al. (2011:267) notes The greater effects of breach on employment outcomes would be an
effectively help if that could be in advance noticed and paid attention to. It might lead to an
outstanding fulfillment. Therefore, psychological contract should be continue to improve and develop
in the 21st century.
This paper has defined the psychological contract as an abstract agreement without spoken or written

My Love Of Travel
For any person that went on vacations as a little kid, there will always be one that sticks out in their
mind. For me that vacation was a 2008 Disney cruise in the Bahamas. As a second grader getting to
miss school was a big deal. This vacation just happened to be during the last week of school that year.
I was incredibly excited to not only miss school but also get to go see a new place. In my family we
love to travel. I ve been in 3 countries and 14 or more states. This vacation was my start to all of these
places and sparked my love to see the world. One of the reasons this vacation influenced my love of
travel was that this was the first time I had been on a big plane. I love to fly places. Flying is a lot
faster than driving places and with two brothers that makes a huge difference.
On this vacation I visited one of the U.S. Virgin Islands, one of the British Virgin Islands, and Disney
s private island, Castaway Cay. Every day of the trip we were either at port on one of these islands or
spending our day on the boat on the way to one of these islands. When we were at port on any of the
islands we were given a time to be back then we were set free to get off of the boat and explore the
island at our own pace. We took a bus tour on one of the islands but on the others we got out and
visited some of the little shops or went to the beach for a day in the sand.
One of the memories that sticks out most to me was when my grandpa and I were standing in the
water at Magens

How Insects Are Affected By Different Food And...
Animal behavior can be defined as how animals respond to different environmental inducements
(Schussler 2014). Furthermore, by studying how animal s react to these stimulus we can determine
what shapes an animals behavior. In addition, the way an insect travels can define how prosperous or
how non prosperous an insect will be in finding vital resources such as finding nutrients, reproducing,
and their habitat location (Romero et. al. 2010). One interesting question is how insects are affected by
different food and environmental ques. Based upon earlier research conducted by Stephen P.
Yanoviak, insects prefer salt when compared against to sugar because they are less exposed to salt.
(Sanders 2008). For that reason, in this study we are investigating how the flour beetle (Tribolium
spp.) is affected by a variety of food resources. From earlier research conducted on ground beetles, the
researchers found that beetles feast on a variety of food sources (Lovei Sunderland, 1996). The reason
we are studying this is because we believe that the type food source plays a dynamic role in flour
beetle behavior. One question that lead us to perform this study is that food is a vital resource that
beetles must have to survive. We wanted to see what food sources is most influential and why. This
study was focused on how beetle behavior is influenced by a variety of food sources. We conducted
two test in this study. We based our first hypothesis off of earlier research on the topic.

The Article Over Population Is Not The Problem `` New...
In the article Over Population Is Not the Problem New York Times. On 13 September 2013, Erle Elis
informs us that many scientist believe humans are exceeding the earth s natural carrying capacity. That
the expanding numbers are reaching the limits of our finite planet. Earths carrying capacity is
estimated between 4 and 16 billion, and the world s population stands at around 7 billion. In other
words, we may have already passed the limits. It is estimated that by 2050, population will reach 9
billion. We are exceeding the earth s natural resources and undermining the life support that sustains
us. (Ellis) We are living beyond our means and are increasingly doing so as our population expands.
This is a serious problem with major implications for future generations. However, there is many ways
to curb overpopulation, one of them being women empowerment. Women s empowerment has four
proportions: having control over their own body, education, radical and monetary.
So, what can be done about human population growth? Can we really change population trends? If so
can we change them without undermining the core human values and the freedom of all? (Amy Coen)
There are steps that can be taken in order to solve this problem. First step is, fully realizing everyone s
human rights, especially women s rights. In the Organization Global Population Speak Out the
activists state that gender equality is a very important part in stabilizing global population. They say

Henry James The Aspern Papers
Henry James The Aspern Papers
The Aspern Papers by Henry James illustrates a classic opposition throughout the story: the
underestimation of the old by the young. The narrator, Aspern s publisher, sets himself to the task of
retrieving several mysterious papers from a former lover of his idol, and goes in with the easy
confidence of a young man who never dreams that anyone, much less an elderly lady, could be not
one, but in fact several, steps ahead of him at all times in his hunt for literary gold. The relationship
between Miss Bordereau and the narrator is that of the cat and the mouse, with the narrator believing
he is the cat, and Miss Bordereau knowing that she has the upper hand by the simple fact of
possession. The narrator ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think that if Miss Bordereau had thought it would get rid of him, she would have told him directly
that, yes, she had the papers, and no, she had no intention of giving them up. However, because their
relationship actually began with Miss Tina s terse reply to the narrator s associate, telling him that
under no circumstances were the two Bordereau s interested in any nonsense as frivolous as a dead
author s romantic entanglements. This response comes back to haunt the narrator as he buries himself
deeper and deeper in intrigue to keep his true identity a secret from Miss Bordereau. When they
converse, the narrator is on his toes and very aware of the effect of every word, while Miss Bordereau
throws out tidbits to entice him into an indiscreet comment or demand for the papers. For example,
she deliberately declines to give him a receipt for his rent payment, prompting the narrator to conclude
She had given me a part of her house, but she wouldn t add to that so much as a morsel of paper with
her name on it (James, 27). While she is ostensibly neglecting only a nicety of business, in truth it
seems she is teasing him, saying that if she will not even give him her signature on a receipt, there is
nothing on earth that might compel her to part with the Aspern papers.
Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the competitive relationship between Aspern s publisher and
Miss Bordereau is the inclusion of a

Character Analysis Of The Characters Of Carolina As A...
In 2017, at Kang Chiao International School, a girl called Carolina, a very common girl as others who
studied in the normal high school. Her personality is very shy and timid, unwilling to present or show
her expression of others, so it s hard to see that she have some conversations with her friends.
However, she wants to become a very powerful girl inside of her heart who has the courage to express
her own opinion, to relieve emotion easily and to have a robust body. She has a very attractive
appearance and very clever brain which seems born to be the embodiment of the justice even though
she has less communication with people. Meanwhile, another main character, Andrea, also a normal
girl who studied in the same school with Carolina. Evil Andrea always jealous of Carolina s beautiful
appearance and highly intelligent, which made their relationship stay very rigid. She is a very diligent
girl but has great envy; being success is the most important thing for her. Great ambitious let her
generate many bad ideas to people around her. Two of the main characters are playmates in the
childhood and Andrea knew Carolina s painful memory in her childhood. Their psychology professor,
Mrs.A took an experience recently, to take research about a pill that can change people s personality;
however, the effects were unpredictable. After several days, Carolina and Andrea both asked Mrs.A
for a colorful pill separately. Surprisingly, the results after they eaten the pill were totally different in
two people: Carolina changed to a girl she wished to become, a brave and easy to express girl; Andrea,
on the other hand, magnified her defects and became more evil.
After they eaten the pill, they generated many powers to help them live in the superpower world.
Carolina changed the name to super batgirl; she has two ponytails, one side is blue and one side is red.
She wears a black mask, a black cape and a pair of black boots which looks very cool, totally different
than before. Her first superpower is that she can control her blood pressure, heart rate and breathing
when she was beaten by her enemy, which is controlled by medulla; the second power is that she can

The Use Of Steroids And Its Effects On The Endocrine And...
It seems as though throughout the years, the usage of steroids has always been to enhance your
performance, whether that be for a sport or body mass and muscle strength in general. I find this
chapter in Psychology interesting, because It goes hand and hand with Anatomy, which I am currently
learning. I would like to further explore the basics on where our body produces natural steroids, the
effects on the endocrine and reproductive system due to steroid use, and lastly, the damage steroid use
can have on your mentality. The adrenal glands, located above the kidneys, are where natural
hormones and steroids that the body uses are secreted and regulated. These hormones and steroids
come from either the adrenal cortex, or the adrenal medulla. Hormones from the cortex start at the
pituitary gland where ACTH or adrenocorticotrophic hormone is secreted. The adrenal cortex secretes
hormones known as corticosteroids, or cortical steroids. ( Rather, Spencer) There are three zones of
the adrenal cortex, the zona glomerulosa, fasciulata, and reticularis. Each of these zones produce
specific steroid hormones. Two main types of steroids among many others are Cortisol and
Aldosterone. Cortisol is referred to as the stress hormone as it is involved in the response to stress and
anxiety. Aldosterone increases reabsorption and retention of sodium and water in the kidneys. This
process involves secretion of potassium and is stimulated by low blood sodium, this increases blood
volume and

Sugar Hill Gang Rapper s Delight
The first item I searched was a popular hip hop album Sugar Hill Gang Rapper s Delight. I
immediately noticed John Fryer had a more subjective way to selling this item. In the description, he
mentions where he purchased the record. Memories he had as a kid listening to SU radio station

objective, offering only facts about said album lacking personality, in turn, feeling cold. Listing things
to include the credits and company in which originally recorded what some call the album to start it

The city of Jerusalem is a very diverse city with many major religions having been part of the history
of Jerusalem. Judaism was one of the first monotheistic religions that centred on Jerusalem as it
became a major city for many Jewish people after they divided in to two tribes. Christianity is another
religion that has a centre in Jerusalem as it was mentioned in many Bible stories and is where many
miracles happened. Finally, Islam is one of the last monotheistic religions that are centred on
Jerusalem because it was where many of its major prophets came from. The city of Jerusalem can be

The city of Jerusalem can be considered a major centre to Christianity because it is the location of
Jesus s travels and it is also where he was killed, resurrected and ascended into heaven. It is also to
location of where many of Jesus s miracles were performed. This is shown through the quote During
Passover in the third year of his public life, Jesus entered Jerusalem and was welcomed by the crowds
who rushed to meet him with palm branches. However, religious authorities were planning his arrest.
(DesRivieres 225)This quote shows us that Jesus was a very important figure for Christianity as he
was greeted by many people. It also proves that the location of Jesus s death and resurrection would be
in the area around Jerusalem as it was where he was arrested for blasphemy. All this means that
Jerusalem is a major centre for Christianity as many major events surrounding the life of Jesus
occurred. Another way Jerusalem is a major city for Christianity is because it is where the religion
itself came from and how it spread from that with The Pentecost. The Pentecost was a major event that
caused the followers of Jesus to gain the ability to speak different languages in order to spread
Christianity to different countries. (Zavada) An article also says Pentecost, a Jewish feast, was
celebrated 50 days after Passover, and pilgrims had come to Jerusalem from all over the world to
celebrate the event. The 12 apostles were gathered together in a house when a terrific wind came from
heaven and filled the place. They saw tongues that looked like fire that separated and came down on
each of them. (Zavada) This quote shows us that the early Christian Church started in Jerusalem and
spread throughout the world from there. This means that Jerusalem is an important religious centre in
Christianity because it originated from there. These reasons are why Jerusalem is also a major
religious centre to

Time Travel In Literature From The Anglo-Saxon Period And...
For a brief moment suppose that time travel exists. A conundrum that has influenced our movies, our
stories, and proved impossible by the laws of physics, is now a reality. What is the first thing to do:
Kill Hitler? Save the Library of Alexandria? Suppose that a time traveler has a great love for literature,
specifically literature from the Anglo Saxon period and the English Renaissance. These two periods
had vastly different societies, and due to this, vastly different literature. If the time traveler were to
compare the literature from both periods, they would see that as time progresses, the themes in the
literature from these periods shift from the bravado of glory and honor to the quieter aspects of life.
While time travel may not be an opportunity at the moment, it is possible to step into the traveler s
shoes by examining the historical context surrounding these periods. Foremost, the Anglo Saxon
period, was a time when brawn, not brains, won the crown. The Celtic peoples, or Gauls, were loose
knit tribal people who were chased to Great Britain by the Romans, and built Hadrian s Wall to protect
themselves. The Germanic people were very similar to the Celtic people: both used human sacrifice
and had warrior kings. This was a time of the Vikings, for adventure. It was a time when the old gods
Dagda, Lugh, Odin, Thor, and many others ruled. In the midst of all of this barbarism, it was oddly
progressive, as women could divorce their husbands and own property. As time

Psychodynamic Behavior Theory

A school based therapeutic mentoring program will be more effective using psychodynamic
supportive therapy than cognitive behavioral therapy in reducing problematic behaviors in youth in

behavior that is socially defined as a problem, concern, or undesirable by the social and or legal norms
of conventional society; problem behavior elicits a social control response which can be either

John Stuart Mill on Liberty and Freedom of Expression
Inhibition of one s liberty, such as their liberty of conscience (i.e. freedom of speech), is unjust by
Millian principles, unless the person s use of deliberation is to voice hate speech. So what is hate
speech? Hate speech is directed towards a member of a group, or the group as a whole, that vilifies on
the basis of the subject s beliefs. In comparison to discriminatory speech, hate speech does not invoke
mere offense, but in most cases is traumatic, and severely impair one s deliberative capacities, or their
mental faculties (judgment, moral preference, intuition, etc...). Liberties have been established to
protect our deliberative abilities, as these are conducive to achieving happiness, which to Mill is the
individual s primary goal. So why should we regulate hate speech? Although it is important to allow
people s freedom of expression, as this is conducive to promoting one s individuality, hate speech can
stigmatize one s character, and for this reason hate speech is not always morally, or legally
permissible. To better understand hate speech s importance, I will describe Mill s argument in favor of
prohibiting hate speech, following this I will object to Mill s rejection of hate speech, finally, I will
show why hate speech should be regulated, and why allowing it is dangerous to humans, and society
as a whole. Freedom of expression is imperative for improving one s character, but not all forms of
opinions , such as hate speech, should have full freedom to be

Persuasive Essay On Crime And Punishment
Have you ever wondered what it would be like if you killed a person and what it would feel like trying
to justify the murder based on a person s morality? In the novel Crime and Punishment by Fyodor
Dostoevsky the protagonist Raskolnikov faced with this exact situation in which he commits a murder
and goes through the process of trying to justify his horrible act. He creates a fantasy that it was all
right to murder this person because he can help more people that what he killed. An analysis of Fyodor
Dostoevsky and his novel Crime and Punishment reveals that Dostoevsky was very depressed, due to
the philosophies of that time, and this depression influenced the morality of Raskolnikov.
Fyodor Dostoevsky born November 11, 1821 in Moscow grew up in an impoverished family, besides
the fact that his dad was a doctor, and did not get the best of educations. Growing up, he faced many
hard times in his life as a child and growing up. Including the death of his mother in 1837 which really
impacted his father and made his father begin to drink and become very depressed. Growing up
Dostoevsky found the most relation to his brother in his family because his mother died shortly after
his birth and his father was working a lot. His father then sent Dostoevsky and his brother off to
boarding schools Dostoevsky ended up in St. Petersburg, where he studied in school very hard and

Clinical findings that correlate with M.K. s chronic bronchitis include:
22 plus years of smoking smoking has been directly linked as one of the number one causes of

The Emergency Medicine Physician Essay Essay
On a busy Monday evening, the emergency medicine physician I was working with started to get a
history from our 52 year old male patient who presented asking for a refill on his pain medication. As
more information was gathered, it was revealed that the patient had run out of his medication two
months earlier and had yet to set up an appointment with his primary care physician. The physician
bluntly cut the patient off, informing him that he needed to make an appointment with his primary
care physician, as he would not be refilling the prescription due to the department s policy of not
refilling narcotic prescriptions. The patient became very enraged at this news. The physician then
promptly left the room as a result. As we exited, the patient began spitting at us, then he quickly left
the department while loudly swearing at the doctor. Personally, this patient provider interaction was
one of the first interactions that made me truly start to critically analyze what the term medical
professionalism meant and what the responsibilities of a medical professional consisted of.
At first, I started contemplating whether the patient was right to be upset or if my physician was
correct with his treatment toward the man. Immediately, my first thought was that obviously the
physician was right as this patient was just enraged because he could not have his narcotics. However,
as I recalled the event in my head, it just did not sit right with me. Since no one left the situation

I. Title: The Water Potential of Potato Cells.
II. Purpose:
The purpose of this experiment was to investigate the effect of the change in concentration of sucrose
on the rate of osmosis in cylinders of potatoes.
This would happen by using similar sizes and lengths of potato cylinders and applying the into
different concentrations of sucrose (0,10%,30%, 50%, 70%) in foam cups then measuring the change
in mass of the potato cylinders afterwards. Maintaining all variables unchanged such as pH, same size,
covered solutions, and a constant temperature. The time taken for all potato cylinders will be 24 hours.

Bike riding is a lot of fun, but accidents happen. The safest way to use your bike is for transportation,
not play. Every year, about 300,000 kids go to the emergency department because of bike injuries, and
at least 10,000 kids have injuries that require a few days in the hospital. Some of these injuries are so
serious that children die, usually from head injuries. A head injury can mean brain injury. That s why it
s so important to wear your bike helmet. Wearing one doesn t mean you can be reckless, but a helmet
will provide some protection for your face, head, and brain in case you fall down. Bike helmets are so
important that the U.S. government has created safety standards for them. Your helmet should have a

Diary Of Anne Frank Diary Analysis
The Diary of Anne Frank is story about a young teenage girl that was trying to hide from being
persecuted from the Nazis because of her religion. During that time, survival was the only thing that
was on her mind: How long she and her family were going to last. They hid behind a bookcase that led
to an attic. They stayed there for a while until they were found a couple years later. They were taken
back to a concentration camp. She died shortly after from a disease called typhus. The only thing that
remains is her diary that her father found to preserve her memory and insight to be in the mind of a
teenage girl during the war. The diary has many themes but the main ones are stress, grief, and mental
illness.
Stress was unavoidable during this time of her life. She was born in a wealthy family and worrying
about suitors for potential marriage material. She was worrying if she would be good enough for them
or if they ll be good enough for her father. She went from being young and care free to being young
and terrified. The day that they received the letter to work in the camps was the day that her youth and
innocence died. She didn t worry about her suitors as much after that because at the end of the day, she
could never trust them enough to tell them her secrets and innermost thoughts. She had to confide in a
diary that her father gave her to help cope with what was happening around her. She hardly had any
peace of mind knowing that they couldn t stay hiding for long. She

The Storm by Kate Chopin
The first thing I noticed about Kate Chopin s The Storm, is that it is utterly dripping with sexual
imagery and symbolism. Our heroine, if you will, seems to be a woman with normally restrained
passions and a well defined sense of propriety, who finds herself in a situation that tears down her
restraint and reveals the vixen within. I wonder if it was intentional that the name Calixta makes me
think of Calypso the nymph from Greek mythology. If half of the sexual symbolism I found in this
story was intentional, Chopin was a genius. I was quite taken with the sexual imagery of the colors
mentioned: white, and red. There is also mention a place called Assumption, while there s nothing

It s no secret that storms bring a unique energy, something that is almost primal in nature. Animals
react to coming storms because of this energy, I once had a cat who would pounce all over the house
in the hours before a storm arrived, when the storm hit, he would sprint from room to room, his tail
bushed out like a bottle brush and his pupils so large you couldn t see the iris. As the storm builds in
its fervor and ferocity, tension and passion build between Calixta and Alcée to match. It begins with
the gusts of wind that threatened to snatch away the clothing that was outside, hence Alcée grabbing
the trousers, and follows as the water beat in upon the boards in driving sheets, then the rain beat upon
the low, shingled roof with a force and clatter that threatened to break an entrance (Chopin 336). The
language grows more telling in that just after there is mention of something threatening to break an
entrance, Chopin describes Calixta s bedroom. The fact that it adjoins the room they re in is
completely unnecessary, unless there s a reason for the reader to be aware of the bedroom. As the
storm rolls on, Calixta goes to the window where she stands when the lightning bolt strikes a tree in
the field. Lightning is a glorified spark, I believe this symbolizes the spark of passion renewed in both

The blatant evils of an all controlling government are spelled out by George Orwell in his novel, 1984,

Big Brother, the ruling government in the plot, the public welcomes around the clock surveillance of

Discretion In Police Discretion
According to Dempsey et al (2016), Discretion means the availability of a choice of options or actions
one can take in a situation (p. 142).
An example of when police discretion was not used in a controlled and regulated manner was when
Mr. Samuel Dubose was shot and killed on July 19, 2015, over his front license plate missing on the
vehicle he was driving. Mr. Dubose was driving just south of University of Cincinnati around 6:30

jurisdiction with city officers on streets around the campus (Capehart, 2015). However, where the

video, the officer is asking Mr. Dubose repeatedly for his driver s license . Mr. Dubose replies that he

Gender Roles In Ancient Mediterranean
Gossiping during the Ancient Mediterranean was a form of social control, which enforced social
norms such as ethical sexual behaviors. Gossip is usually established from witnessing an action that is
considered a deviation from the standard behaviors within a given society. Set restraints and values
produce a power dynamic and allow individuals to claim their subjecthood; this socially constructed
definition of subjecthood allows people to categorize themselves within the social and political
hierarchy in order to make sense of who they are, such as their sexuality. The interdictions built and
created an understanding of one s subjecthood and were controlled by gossip. As a result, gossip
defines what is acceptable within that society, the creation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, if a couple did not perform sexual intercourse in the manner that abided the interdictions
stated in the Talmud, there would be public and physical consequences on their children. Why are
there lame children? Because they [their fathers] turned over the tables. Why are there dumb children?
Because they talk during intercourse. Why are there blind children? Because they look at that place
(Nedarim 20a b; Boyarin p. 110). In this interpretation of the text, the ministering angels told R.
Yohanan b. Dehabi that those who perform unconventional sexual behavior will have children with
birth defects. The deformed children became public evidence that the couple did not follow the code
of the Talmud and they would have had to confront the gossip that circled around the community
about them and their children. This also deals with the issue of the panopticon, which is the idea that

Why A Corporation May Consider Convertible Bond Issuance
There are number reasons a corporation may consider convertible bond issuance. The instrument itself
is a bond that may be converted to another type of security at the company that issued the bond.
Converting such an item is all left up to the discretion of the bondholder. The reason for a company to
want to issue such an item of course would always be in the best interest of the company itself for
doing so. Convertible bonds are considered what is known as a hybrid security where it is considered
to be both debt and equity by the issuing company (Saunders Cornett, 2015, p. 185).
One of the reasons the company would want to issue convertible bond would be is the yield that they
have to pay generally lower than that of a non convertible bond. The reason the rate is lower is
important because it is indeed a hybrid security where gives the bondholder an investment opportunity
in the company in the future, hence making the instrument more attractive to investors (Badraoui
Ouenniche, 2014). Since the instrument is more attractive, a lower yield may be offered that will still
garner and peak invested interest in the product (Saunders Cornett, 2015). Pricing is usually set so as
not in the best interest to convert the bond stock unless the company sees an increase of the stock price
in the range from 15 to 20 percent from the time the bond was issued (Saunders Cornett, 2015, p.
187).

Post-Reconstruction Era Leaders
Famous Leaders after the Reconstruction Era
The reconstruction period refers to the time between 1865 and 1877. It refers to the period after the
American civil war where the South of United States wanted to secede and form its country. It was an
opportunity for transformation and a series of changes that were directed by congress. During this
period, the state and society were influenced by different leaders, thinkers and activists that believed
in the post Reconstruction of United States and regarded that African American upward mobility
needed top priority. There were also leaders that were against this movement and struggled to have
their voice heard by congress so that things would remain just as they were.

He made a difference
Very many runaway slaves to get away and live in freedom away from their cruel masters. Langston
was famously known as one of the contributors for the Underground Railroad. All the things that he
did lead to him being elected as the first black official in the capacity of the town clerk of the
Brownhelm Township (Stalcup, 2005). He recruited many African Americans to fight in the Union
Army, which led to him being appointed the inspector general for the Freedmen s Bureau after the
war. The Freedmen s Bureau was a federal organization that helped freed slaves to get a better life.
The African American community recognized Langston for many things he did in his lifetime. He
made a number of contributions that led to the abolishment of slavery in the United States. Later on in
his career, he was able to further his law career, and he stood for the rights of African Americans being
upheld by all people. He adopted a democratic style of leadership that made many people like him and
followed him. He died in 1897, after accomplishing many things in both his political and law

Working As An Intern For Placer Times
Working as an intern for Placer Times, a major newspaper company in Addis Ababa, Africa, I am here
to have my voice heard. I grew up in a big city where no one had a car. We either walked, took trams,
or subways. At age 16, I got my first job two blocks from my house writing magazine articles. Ever
since then, I have been interning at big news paper companies in big cities all around the world. I have
traveled to many cities, reporting local news and thus never really got a chance to settle down. I am
currently 24 years old and living in a three bedroom apartment with two other women in the heart of
Addis Ababa, Africa. Much like San Francisco, this city is over crowded, contains too many tourists,

The man had no ID on him, so the officers could not identify who he was. The body of this man was
never clamed. He was named Victim 001. 001 represented the unknown future victims that might
come from other autonomous car accidents. Although these autonomous cars can drive themselves, the
occupant still has the responsibility to press the emergency break when necessary. Chris Rodriquez,
the occupant of the car in this instance, had just gotten his masters from UCLA and was about to pitch
his first business deal at his dad s law firm. Living under his dad s expectations, he knew there was no
way to ease the man without having a couple of drinks beforehand. In this case, having a couple of
drinks impaired the twenty eight year old male occupant s judgment, making him unable to press the
emergency break. Therefore, the death of the pedestrian was the occupant s fault. Mercedes Bens
company has been working on making the perfect autonomous car for the past 13 years. Working to
make sure every little detail was detailed to perfection; Stopping when necessary, making sure the
speed was accurate, and installing emergency breaks to make sure the cars would not get out of
control, were Mercedes goals. There are only a couple hundred of theses two door cars with windows
tinted as deep as the ocean, its engine as loud as thunder, with the exhaust puffing white smoke.

Freedom of Women to Be Prostitutes Essay
For centuries, women have been selling their bodies, in most cases prostitution, but it is not world s
oldest profession. Nevertheless, for as long as history states, prostitution has been around for as long
as the oldest professions in the world. Every aspect of history asserts even the slightest things about
prostitution existing. Prostitution has been a long term profession through out several decades,
whether it varies from being an adult star, escort, prostitute, a stripper etc... As long as they pay their
rights as a civilian of the country (taxes and such), they should be allowed to do whatever they want
with their body. In terms of legalization and morality issues (pertaining to religious reasons), it is the
woman s choice. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
King Henry II set up laws on prostitutes must be single and had a weekly inspection at the brothel to
make sure laws were not violated. In Italy, 1358 A.D., prostitution was welcomed. In such ways that
brothels were built in major Italian cities, which were government funded. The Great Council of
Venice even publicized prostitution to be absolutely indispensible to the world . Over 1802, France,
monitored brothels were created. The new agency monitored brothels on whether or not laws were
followed and no criminal activity took place. This was successful for over a century. Up until 1971
Nevada legalized prostitution, even Nevada is not the most liberal area of the US. Other countries that
have legalized and currently regulating prostitution is Austria, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Germany,
Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lebanon, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Panama, Peru, Senegal,
Switzerland, Turkey, Venezuela as well as some Australian states, and Mexico. Prostitution does not
only include whores, but adult film stars, escorts and strippers. If for centuries it has been working out,
there is no reason for prostitution to still be illegal. See France in 1802, even back then monitored
brothels worked out even for over a century. With the security today and more advanced reasoning,
people today are more than capable to make things like that work. Even far back to the 18th century
BCE, there was a code that honored prostitutes.

Alternative Dispute Resolution And Some Of Its Processes
Along the years, conflicts have become inevitable in our day to day activities. In resolving a dispute,
several factors have to be considered. Factors such as the nature of the conflict, the role of the parties
resolving the dispute, the rights and interests of the parties and the procedures used to resolve the
dispute. The court system is an unpleasant means of dispute resolution when it comes to civil or
domestic issues. When resolving such issues, alternative means should be consulted. The first part of
this paper will look at Alternative Dispute Resolution and some of its processes, and the public
availability and voluntary nature of alternative dispute resolution in reference to the Article 6(1) of the
European Convention on Human Rights. The second part of this paper, however, would try to advise a
client using alternative means to effectively resolve the dispute in question.
Part A
Alternative Dispute Resolution also known as ADR is a dispute resolving mechanism that was
introduced under the Legal Services Authorities Act 1987 in order to provide a cost effective and less
time consuming alternative method for individuals to resolve their dispute. This mechanism includes
any method of resolving a dispute in place of litigation going to court. ADR is a great substitute for
litigation as the high cost of litigation would not be affordable for individuals with low income.
Nevertheless, ADR is not a panacea, nor is it cost free. With the Civil Justice reforms, ADR has

According to Mr. D. Ian Guild, Senior Advisor, Forfeiting Syndications Group, Standard Bank, the
cell was being set up after a series of meetings with the bank, and is essentially aimed at spreading the
message of Forfeiting as an effective trade financing mechanism to increase exports. Suggesting that
forfeiting was the ideal springboard for effecting a quantum jump in exports in the medium term, Mr.
Guild said he was confident of aggregating forfeiting business of $100 millions in 1998 and $250
millions in 1999 in the country. Since its introduction in 1992, Exim Bank had facilitated 69 forfeiting
transactions valued at around $75 millions, with credit periods ranging between 90 days and seven
years, and covering the export of goods ranging from textiles to plant and machinery. The RBI has
now permitted all commercial banks to act as facilitators for forfeiting transactions. Mr. Guild pointed
out that forfeiting has not really taken off in India because exporters and commercial banks lacked the
knowledge of the mechanics of the scheme. In India, the real challenge would be to motivate small
and medium exporters to use the forfeiting route for exports to countries which may not be able to buy
on cash terms. Mr. S. Bhattacharya, deputy general manager, Exim Bank, Calcutta, said: Payment

A Last Look At The Battle Of The Sexes
A Last Look at the Battle of the Sexes
The course readings have been an insightful and thought provoking look into evolutionary psychology
and the biological differences between the sexes and the extent to which some of those differences are
nothing but social constructs. Evolutionary psychology and genetics are both fascinating and in this
respect I found Adam s Curse: A Future Without Men by Bryan Sykes and The Moral Animal by
Robert Wright the most influential and thought provoking. The illusionary nature of social constructs
and the misleading messages they give us about gender roles was also beautifully illustrated in Pink
Brain Blue Brain by Lise Eliot and Woman: An Intimate Geography, by Nathalie Angier. The Trouble

The readings, especially Sapolsky s essays in The Trouble with Testosterone, showed me that this link
may not necessarily exist. In other words, our gender specific behavior is not hormonally derived,
such as male aggression being assumed to be an effect of high testosterone. This classic nature versus
nurture problem came up in other course readings but Sapolsky s witty, accessible, clear writing style
likely had much to do with making it all stick in my thoughts. It made me ponder how much of our
behavior is really biologically programmed and how much of it is a product, instead, of social
programming deliberate or otherwise. The arguments set forth in Pink Brain Blue Brain took Sapolsky
s restrained observations further, suggesting that small genetic differences between the sexes grow
larger and larger with maturity due to social conditioning. On the other hand, Eliot argues, wouldn t it
be better if boys were able to freely acquire beneficial feminine traits such as nurturing qualities, and
girls could freely acquire beneficial masculine traits such as being adept at mathematics or to speak
bluntly and directly. However, she stops short of condemning all differences between the sexes and I
think that was a good decision on her part because, as The Moral Animal

  • 2. Comparing the Works of Norman Rockwell and Gary Soto Family happiness is something that many today focus on as an absolute requirement for happy and healthy growth in children. And indeed, it is right that this should be so. In reality, however, challenges such as poverty and racism often affect the happiness that families might experience. When comparing the works created by Norman Rockwell and Gary Soto, however, it becomes clear that family happiness is not so much dependent upon wealth as it is upon freedom of expression and freedom from fear. At first glance, the family in Rockwell s painting appears quite happy, with the father and mother both smiling at the sleepy children. The children also seem peaceful and warm in their bed, and the room appears secure and solid against any elements that might attack from outside. This is, however, where the sense of overprotection begins to reveal itself. The overprotected nature of the children s life is revealed in several visual elements in the painting. First, and most obvious, the mother leans over the children as she puts them to bed. The father also stands close, looking down at them, with a fond smile on his face. While it is clear that they love their children, the parents physical orientation towards their children can be said to hover. Another interesting element in this regard is that the father accompanies the process of putting the children to bed. He stands next to his wife as she works with the children. He does not help, but gives the impression that his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Organized Religion Exposed in Richard Wright s Native Son If the United States were to adopt a Communist government, it would be a better country. If Americans were to dispose of religion, they would be content people. If Richard Wright were to complete an assignment regarding the context of his novel, Native Son, the aforementioned arguments would be his focus. Wright, like all Marxists, believes that religion is the opiate of the masses, providing a surreal dream world with negative side effects. The representation of organized religion in Native Son supports Wright s highly atheistic, Communistic views and his aspirations for the United States. By negatively using conventional religious symbols, such as the cross, prayer, God, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although Bigger s character refutes the concept of religion, Wright compares him to a struggling Jesus Christ throughout the novel; society is to learn from Bigger s example that capitalism is the core evil of the country, just as Christians look to Christ to delineate between sin and salvation. Bigger s interactions with the Daltons mirror those of Jesus throughout the Stations of the Cross. Bigger s initial visit to the Dalton home foreshadows his death because the setting mimics that of the crucifixion; all at once...the sky [turns] black (48), as it does while Jesus hangs upon the cross on Good Friday. When Bigger first visits the Dalton home, he slip[s] back (51) into his chair, just as Jesus falls while carrying his cross to Mount Calvary; this scene represents the persecution in store for Bigger by those families who, like the Daltons, consider themselves religious. Even during the murder and burning of the body of Mary Dalton, Bigger s actions parallel Christ s. Similar to Christ s struggle with the cross upon his back, Bigger stoop[s] and ca[tches] the strap of Mary s trunk and carrie[s] it downstairs (103) with her body inside, and the murder of Mary becomes Bigger s cross, upon which he is executed. Similarly, prayer reappears within Native Son in order to prove the unimportance of God and the ineffectiveness of belief. The rat remains dead ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Water Hardness Of Salt Concentration Essay Introduction The key to life is water. The only known planet to have stable bodies of water to support life is Earth.1 All water however, is not pure H2O. Water often times has other compounds and chemicals mixed with it including salts. Over time plants and animals have adapted to how much salt it can consume and survive.1 These lifeforms that adapted to low salt concentrations live in freshwater habitats. Freshwater typically has a salt concentration of less than 1%.2 Although sometimes low, the salts that are most commonly found in water are formed with the cations Ca2+ and Mg2+.3 Water hardness is a measure of the concentration of calcium and/or magnesium ions in water.3 Water becomes hard as it drains through limestone, dolomite and other minerals. A high concentration of these ions results in a hard water sample, while a low concentration is soft.4 Water hardness is important in that it can cause many problems. The equation below shows how calcium can create problems. Calcium bicarbonate → Calcium carbonate + Water + Carbon dioxide Ca(HCO3)2 → CaCO3 + H2O + CO2 3 Calcium carbonate, also known as scale,is sometimes referred to as one of the banes of industry 4. The formation of scale blocks pipes and tubes4 and is the culprit behind the hated bathtub rings.3 To fix these problems, it is important to understand water hardness. Water hardness can be determined in many ways. EDTA titrations and atomic absorbance spectroscopy (AA) are the most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Comparison Of The Catcher In The Rye By J. D. Salinger On January 1, 1919, Jerome David Salinger the author of the iconic novel, The Catcher in the Rye was born in Manhattan, New York. After receiving national attention for his masterpiece, Salinger became somewhat of a hermit and led a reclusive life. For a reserved individual, such as J.D. Salinger, what more suitable way is there to illustrate his own life experiences than a tale of a teenager who entices the reader through his unique view of the world? Without a doubt, there are multiple parallels that can be drawn between the lives of Holden and the author himself. In his younger days, J.D. Salinger attended multiple public schools in Manhattan until his parents decided to enroll him at the McBurney School, an exclusive private school for ninth and tenth graders. Even though the circumstances of Holden s and Salinger s unceremonious exits from Pencey and McBurney respectively, were eerily similar, the school that Salinger would be sent to the next and eventually graduate from Valley Forge Military Academy would become the blueprint for Pencey Prep as it appeared in The Catcher in the Rye. Psychological Contract is an abstract contract that affects both employers and employees, a subtle contract without speaking or writing, contains assumptions and expectations from each party towards the other (Rousseau 1989). (2011) demonstrated that employees would engage more organizational undesirable behaviors when they noticed the mutual exchange relationship has changed or disrupted. In addition, a series of problems would come while there is a psychological contract breach in the company. Psychological contracts affect companies on both positive and negative sides. It is true that companies focus on building good psychological contracts between employers and employees by developing their strategic training practices to fulfill their goals successfully. On the contrary, Sim (1994) stated in his research that, A balanced psychological contract is necessary for a continuing, harmonious relationship between the employee and the organization. However, the violation of the psychological contract can signal to the participants that the parties no longer share (or have never shared)a common set of values or goals. From what he suggested, the negative effect is a tough problem when the contract breaks. However, as Conway, N.et al. (2011:267) notes The greater effects of breach on employment outcomes would be an effectively help if that could be in advance noticed and paid attention to. • 7. My Love Of Travel For any person that went on vacations as a little kid, there will always be one that sticks out in their mind. For me that vacation was a 2008 Disney cruise in the Bahamas. As a second grader getting to miss school was a big deal. This vacation just happened to be during the last week of school that year. I was incredibly excited to not only miss school but also get to go see a new place. In my family we love to travel. I ve been in 3 countries and 14 or more states. This vacation was my start to all of these places and sparked my love to see the world. One of the reasons this vacation influenced my love of travel was that this was the first time I had been on a big plane. I love to fly places. Flying is a lot faster than driving places and with two brothers that makes a huge difference. On this vacation I visited one of the U.S. Virgin Islands, one of the British Virgin Islands, and Disney s private island, Castaway Cay. Every day of the trip we were either at port on one of these islands or spending our day on the boat on the way to one of these islands. When we were at port on any of the islands we were given a time to be back then we were set free to get off of the boat and explore the island at our own pace. We took a bus tour on one of the islands but on the others we got out and visited some of the little shops or went to the beach for a day in the sand. • 8. How Insects Are Affected By Different Food And... Animal behavior can be defined as how animals respond to different environmental inducements (Schussler 2014). Furthermore, by studying how animal s react to these stimulus we can determine what shapes an animals behavior. In addition, the way an insect travels can define how prosperous or how non prosperous an insect will be in finding vital resources such as finding nutrients, reproducing, and their habitat location (Romero et. al. 2010). One interesting question is how insects are affected by different food and environmental ques. Based upon earlier research conducted by Stephen P. Yanoviak, insects prefer salt when compared against to sugar because they are less exposed to salt. (Sanders 2008). For that reason, in this study we are investigating how the flour beetle (Tribolium spp.) is affected by a variety of food resources. From earlier research conducted on ground beetles, the researchers found that beetles feast on a variety of food sources (Lovei Sunderland, 1996). The reason we are studying this is because we believe that the type food source plays a dynamic role in flour beetle behavior. One question that lead us to perform this study is that food is a vital resource that beetles must have to survive. We wanted to see what food sources is most influential and why. This study was focused on how beetle behavior is influenced by a variety of food sources. We conducted two test in this study. We based our first hypothesis off of earlier research on the topic. ... • 11. The Article Over Population Is Not The Problem `` New... In the article Over Population Is Not the Problem New York Times. On 13 September 2013, Erle Elis informs us that many scientist believe humans are exceeding the earth s natural carrying capacity. That the expanding numbers are reaching the limits of our finite planet. Earths carrying capacity is estimated between 4 and 16 billion, and the world s population stands at around 7 billion. In other words, we may have already passed the limits. It is estimated that by 2050, population will reach 9 billion. We are exceeding the earth s natural resources and undermining the life support that sustains us. (Ellis) We are living beyond our means and are increasingly doing so as our population expands. This is a serious problem with major implications for future generations. However, there is many ways to curb overpopulation, one of them being women empowerment. Women s empowerment has four proportions: having control over their own body, education, radical and monetary. So, what can be done about human population growth? Can we really change population trends? If so can we change them without undermining the core human values and the freedom of all? (Amy Coen) There are steps that can be taken in order to solve this problem. First step is, fully realizing everyone s human rights, especially women s rights. In the Organization Global Population Speak Out the activists state that gender equality is a very important part in stabilizing global population. They say how well a society ... • 12. Henry James The Aspern Papers Henry James The Aspern Papers The Aspern Papers by Henry James illustrates a classic opposition throughout the story: the underestimation of the old by the young. The narrator, Aspern s publisher, sets himself to the task of retrieving several mysterious papers from a former lover of his idol, and goes in with the easy confidence of a young man who never dreams that anyone, much less an elderly lady, could be not one, but in fact several, steps ahead of him at all times in his hunt for literary gold. The relationship between Miss Bordereau and the narrator is that of the cat and the mouse, with the narrator believing he is the cat, and Miss Bordereau knowing that she has the upper hand by the simple fact of possession. I think that if Miss Bordereau had thought it would get rid of him, she would have told him directly that, yes, she had the papers, and no, she had no intention of giving them up. However, because their relationship actually began with Miss Tina s terse reply to the narrator s associate, telling him that under no circumstances were the two Bordereau s interested in any nonsense as frivolous as a dead author s romantic entanglements. This response comes back to haunt the narrator as he buries himself deeper and deeper in intrigue to keep his true identity a secret from Miss Bordereau. When they converse, the narrator is on his toes and very aware of the effect of every word, while Miss Bordereau throws out tidbits to entice him into an indiscreet comment or demand for the papers. For example, she deliberately declines to give him a receipt for his rent payment, prompting the narrator to conclude She had given me a part of her house, but she wouldn t add to that so much as a morsel of paper with her name on it (James, 27). While she is ostensibly neglecting only a nicety of business, in truth it seems she is teasing him, saying that if she will not even give him her signature on a receipt, there is nothing on earth that might compel her to part with the Aspern papers. Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the competitive relationship between Aspern s publisher and Miss Bordereau is the inclusion of a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 2017, at Kang Chiao International School, a girl called Carolina, a very common girl as others who studied in the normal high school. Her personality is very shy and timid, unwilling to present or show her expression of others, so it s hard to see that she have some conversations with her friends. However, she wants to become a very powerful girl inside of her heart who has the courage to express her own opinion, to relieve emotion easily and to have a robust body. She has a very attractive appearance and very clever brain which seems born to be the embodiment of the justice even though she has less communication with people. Meanwhile, another main character, Andrea, also a normal girl who studied in the same school with Carolina. Evil Andrea always jealous of Carolina s beautiful appearance and highly intelligent, which made their relationship stay very rigid. She is a very diligent girl but has great envy; being success is the most important thing for her. Great ambitious let her generate many bad ideas to people around her. Two of the main characters are playmates in the childhood and Andrea knew Carolina s painful memory in her childhood. Their psychology professor, Mrs.A took an experience recently, to take research about a pill that can change people s personality; however, the effects were unpredictable. After several days, Carolina and Andrea both asked Mrs.A for a colorful pill separately. Surprisingly, the results after they eaten the pill were totally different in two people: Carolina changed to a girl she wished to become, a brave and easy to express girl; Andrea, on the other hand, magnified her defects and became more evil. After they eaten the pill, they generated many powers to help them live in the superpower world. Carolina changed the name to super batgirl; she has two ponytails, one side is blue and one side is red. She wears a black mask, a black cape and a pair of black boots which looks very cool, totally different than before. It seems as though throughout the years, the usage of steroids has always been to enhance your performance, whether that be for a sport or body mass and muscle strength in general. I find this chapter in Psychology interesting, because It goes hand and hand with Anatomy, which I am currently learning. I would like to further explore the basics on where our body produces natural steroids, the effects on the endocrine and reproductive system due to steroid use, and lastly, the damage steroid use can have on your mentality. The adrenal glands, located above the kidneys, are where natural hormones and steroids that the body uses are secreted and regulated. These hormones and steroids come from either the adrenal cortex, or the adrenal medulla. Hormones from the cortex start at the pituitary gland where ACTH or adrenocorticotrophic hormone is secreted. The adrenal cortex secretes hormones known as corticosteroids, or cortical steroids. ( Rather, Spencer) There are three zones of the adrenal cortex, the zona glomerulosa, fasciulata, and reticularis. Each of these zones produce specific steroid hormones. Two main types of steroids among many others are Cortisol and Aldosterone. Cortisol is referred to as the stress hormone as it is involved in the response to stress and anxiety. Aldosterone increases reabsorption and retention of sodium and water in the kidneys. This process involves secretion of potassium and is stimulated by low blood sodium, this increases blood volume and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Finally, Islam is one of the last monotheistic religions that are centred on Jerusalem because it was where many of its major prophets came from. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The city of Jerusalem can be considered a major centre to Christianity because it is the location of Jesus s travels and it is also where he was killed, resurrected and ascended into heaven. It is also to location of where many of Jesus s miracles were performed. This is shown through the quote During Passover in the third year of his public life, Jesus entered Jerusalem and was welcomed by the crowds who rushed to meet him with palm branches. However, religious authorities were planning his arrest. (DesRivieres 225)This quote shows us that Jesus was a very important figure for Christianity as he was greeted by many people. It also proves that the location of Jesus s death and resurrection would be in the area around Jerusalem as it was where he was arrested for blasphemy. All this means that Jerusalem is a major centre for Christianity as many major events surrounding the life of Jesus occurred. Another way Jerusalem is a major city for Christianity is because it is where the religion itself came from and how it spread from that with The Pentecost. The Pentecost was a major event that caused the followers of Jesus to gain the ability to speak different languages in order to spread Christianity to different countries. (Zavada) An article also says Pentecost, a Jewish feast, was celebrated 50 days after Passover, and pilgrims had come to Jerusalem from all over the world to celebrate the event. The 12 apostles were gathered together in a house when a terrific wind came from heaven and filled the place. They saw tongues that looked like fire that separated and came down on each of them. (Zavada) This quote shows us that the early Christian Church started in Jerusalem and spread throughout the world from there. This means that Jerusalem is an important religious centre in Christianity because it originated from there. These reasons are why Jerusalem is also a major religious centre to ... • 18. Time Travel In Literature From The Anglo-Saxon Period And... For a brief moment suppose that time travel exists. A conundrum that has influenced our movies, our stories, and proved impossible by the laws of physics, is now a reality. What is the first thing to do: Kill Hitler? Save the Library of Alexandria? Suppose that a time traveler has a great love for literature, specifically literature from the Anglo Saxon period and the English Renaissance. These two periods had vastly different societies, and due to this, vastly different literature. If the time traveler were to compare the literature from both periods, they would see that as time progresses, the themes in the literature from these periods shift from the bravado of glory and honor to the quieter aspects of life. While time travel may not be an opportunity at the moment, it is possible to step into the traveler s shoes by examining the historical context surrounding these periods. Foremost, the Anglo Saxon period, was a time when brawn, not brains, won the crown. The Celtic peoples, or Gauls, were loose knit tribal people who were chased to Great Britain by the Romans, and built Hadrian s Wall to protect themselves. The Germanic people were very similar to the Celtic people: both used human sacrifice and had warrior kings. This was a time of the Vikings, for adventure. It was a time when the old gods Dagda, Lugh, Odin, Thor, and many others ruled. In the midst of all of this barbarism, it was oddly progressive, as women could divorce their husbands and own property. As time ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. John Stuart Mill on Liberty and Freedom of Expression Inhibition of one s liberty, such as their liberty of conscience (i.e. freedom of speech), is unjust by Millian principles, unless the person s use of deliberation is to voice hate speech. So what is hate speech? Hate speech is directed towards a member of a group, or the group as a whole, that vilifies on the basis of the subject s beliefs. In comparison to discriminatory speech, hate speech does not invoke mere offense, but in most cases is traumatic, and severely impair one s deliberative capacities, or their mental faculties (judgment, moral preference, intuition, etc...). Liberties have been established to protect our deliberative abilities, as these are conducive to achieving happiness, which to Mill is the individual s primary goal. So why should we regulate hate speech? Although it is important to allow people s freedom of expression, as this is conducive to promoting one s individuality, hate speech can stigmatize one s character, and for this reason hate speech is not always morally, or legally permissible. To better understand hate speech s importance, I will describe Mill s argument in favor of prohibiting hate speech, following this I will object to Mill s rejection of hate speech, finally, I will show why hate speech should be regulated, and why allowing it is dangerous to humans, and society as a whole. Freedom of expression is imperative for improving one s character, but not all forms of opinions , such as hate speech, should have full freedom to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. The Emergency Medicine Physician Essay Essay On a busy Monday evening, the emergency medicine physician I was working with started to get a history from our 52 year old male patient who presented asking for a refill on his pain medication. As more information was gathered, it was revealed that the patient had run out of his medication two months earlier and had yet to set up an appointment with his primary care physician. The physician bluntly cut the patient off, informing him that he needed to make an appointment with his primary care physician, as he would not be refilling the prescription due to the department s policy of not refilling narcotic prescriptions. The patient became very enraged at this news. The physician then promptly left the room as a result. As we exited, the patient began spitting at us, then he quickly left the department while loudly swearing at the doctor. Personally, this patient provider interaction was one of the first interactions that made me truly start to critically analyze what the term medical professionalism meant and what the responsibilities of a medical professional consisted of. At first, I started contemplating whether the patient was right to be upset or if my physician was correct with his treatment toward the man. Immediately, my first thought was that obviously the physician was right as this patient was just enraged because he could not have his narcotics. However, as I recalled the event in my head, it just did not sit right with me. Since no one left the situation happy, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She went from being young and care free to being young and terrified. The day that they received the letter to work in the camps was the day that her youth and innocence died. She didn t worry about her suitors as much after that because at the end of the day, she could never trust them enough to tell them her secrets and innermost thoughts. Our heroine, if you will, seems to be a woman with normally restrained passions and a well defined sense of propriety, who finds herself in a situation that tears down her restraint and reveals the vixen within. I wonder if it was intentional that the name Calixta makes me think of Calypso the nymph from Greek mythology. If half of the sexual symbolism I found in this story was intentional, Chopin was a genius. I was quite taken with the sexual imagery of the colors mentioned: white, and red. As the storm builds in its fervor and ferocity, tension and passion build between Calixta and Alcée to match. It begins with the gusts of wind that threatened to snatch away the clothing that was outside, hence Alcée grabbing the trousers, and follows as the water beat in upon the boards in driving sheets, then the rain beat upon the low, shingled roof with a force and clatter that threatened to break an entrance (Chopin 336). The language grows more telling in that just after there is mention of something threatening to break an entrance, Chopin describes Calixta s bedroom. The fact that it adjoins the room they re in is completely unnecessary, unless there s a reason for the reader to be aware of the bedroom. Gossip is usually established from witnessing an action that is considered a deviation from the standard behaviors within a given society. Set restraints and values produce a power dynamic and allow individuals to claim their subjecthood; this socially constructed definition of subjecthood allows people to categorize themselves within the social and political hierarchy in order to make sense of who they are, such as their sexuality. Because they look at that place (Nedarim 20a b; Boyarin p. 110). In this interpretation of the text, the ministering angels told R. Yohanan b. Dehabi that those who perform unconventional sexual behavior will have children with birth defects. The deformed children became public evidence that the couple did not follow the code of the Talmud and they would have had to confront the gossip that circled around the community about them and their children. • 41. Why A Corporation May Consider Convertible Bond Issuance There are number reasons a corporation may consider convertible bond issuance. The instrument itself is a bond that may be converted to another type of security at the company that issued the bond. Converting such an item is all left up to the discretion of the bondholder. The reason for a company to want to issue such an item of course would always be in the best interest of the company itself for doing so. Convertible bonds are considered what is known as a hybrid security where it is considered to be both debt and equity by the issuing company (Saunders Cornett, 2015, p. 185). One of the reasons the company would want to issue convertible bond would be is the yield that they have to pay generally lower than that of a non convertible bond. The reason the rate is lower is important because it is indeed a hybrid security where gives the bondholder an investment opportunity in the company in the future, hence making the instrument more attractive to investors (Badraoui Ouenniche, 2014). Since the instrument is more attractive, a lower yield may be offered that will still garner and peak invested interest in the product (Saunders Cornett, 2015). Pricing is usually set so as not in the best interest to convert the bond stock unless the company sees an increase of the stock price in the range from 15 to 20 percent from the time the bond was issued (Saunders Cornett, 2015, p. 187). This classic nature versus nurture problem came up in other course readings but Sapolsky s witty, accessible, clear writing style likely had much to do with making it all stick in my thoughts. It made me ponder how much of our behavior is really biologically programmed and how much of it is a product, instead, of social programming deliberate or otherwise. The arguments set forth in Pink Brain Blue Brain took Sapolsky s restrained observations further, suggesting that small genetic differences between the sexes grow larger and larger with maturity due to social conditioning. On the other hand, Eliot argues, wouldn t it be better if boys were able to freely acquire beneficial feminine traits such as nurturing qualities, and girls could freely acquire beneficial masculine traits such as being adept at mathematics or to speak bluntly and directly. However, she stops short of condemning all differences between the sexes and I think that was a good decision on her part because, as The Moral Animal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
