The Everyday Is Important For Sociological Research
This essay will argue that the setting of the everyday is important for sociological research. Through
its investigation it becomes evident how various types of social structures and institutions have an
ability to influence behaviours and emotions of individuals. The sociological research of the everyday
covers a diverse range of theories, as individuals live and conduct themselves by various standards,
contexts, and structures (Heller, 1984, p. 3), and it is this kind of interaction that is taken for granted
and thus in need of exploration. It is through the examination of the socialisation occurring in the
everyday between individuals, institutions, rules, and culture, that it becomes evident that the obvious
is often not so obvious (Newman et al., 2013). This essay utilises the sociological imagination to
express this importance of the everyday through the exploration of three aspects of socialisation, these
being employment, mass media, and social deviance. It is these kinds of socialisations occurring in the
everyday that illustrate how social structures and institutions influence behaviours and emotions, and
hence also prove the everyday as an important setting for sociological research.
Have you ever wondered whether your thoughts and feelings are your own?
(Gavin Smith)
It is through the sociological research of the events and happenings in the everyday that this important
question can be and is addressed quite repetitively. First, however in order to

Teaching Children How To Read
The more you read, the more things you know. The more that you learn, the more places you ll go Dr.
Seuss. Dr.Seuss could not be any more right. It is often said that once you find the right book, you
could go anywhere. Literacy is one of the most important things that a child could ever learn. In order
to succeed in society today, one must be able to read, write, speak and even listen. There has been
great debate over the different approaches when it comes to teaching children how to read. This essay
will go more in depth on both approaches, how the writer learned how to read, how the writer will
teach their students how to read. The first approach that we are going to talk about are going to talk
about is the explicit approach. Explicit

James Berardinelli s To Kill A Mockingbird
James Berardinelli in To Kill a Mockingbird A movie review (2001) argues that Mockingbird, the
movie, is absolutely true to the book . Berardinelli develops and supports the major claim by
explaining what he saw in the movie that made him believe it was inspiring. James wrote this review
in order to make people want to watch the movie. The author connects with his audience by talking
about how each of the actors showed the emotion of the book and put the true emotion on the screen.
Berardinelli proves many different reasons why the To Kill a Mockingbird movie truly proved it s
connection to the book. Berardinelli develops and supports his claim that the movie stays faithful to
the book by, telling all of instances that the movie ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What he does not do is give any explanation for why he believes that or any proof. Bob Ewell is a
monster. Tom Robinson is a tragic figure. And Boo Radley is the Bogeyman the personification of
mystery that hangs thick in the air on summer nights. (Paragraph 6.) To help people understand the
review it is a necessity that he act as though the person has never heard of To Kill a Mockingbird.
Later in the review he uses some evidence that somewhat helps with what he is talking about.
Nevertheless, in their encounters with Boo, limited though they may be, the children are frightened

When I Came To America
When I came to America from China at age 16, everyone around me appeared to be different.
However, I didn t just talk to my Chinese friends. I pushed myself outside of my bubble; I tried my
best to make friends with American students, while I still maintained good relationships with my
Chinese friends. America is very different from what I expected, everyone speaks so fast and unclear;
it almost made English a completely different language from what I had already learned. As I was
trying to make friends, I realized that Chinese culture had made me different from Americans; things
that I was curious about as a Chinese person were very private to American students. For example, in
America, people won t mention what their parents jobs are when they meet someone for the first time.

She thought I was really weird, well she still thinks I m weird but that is beside the point. At first we
spoke two different languages and shared completely different customs. Being the new kid from
another country, my conversations with her were tended to be short and awkward and we never had
much to talk about. I would laugh when she and her friends laughed, even if I didn t understand the
joke at all. I tried using slang as often as I could, even though I wasn t sure what any of it meant.
However, after an entire year of frustration and self motivation, I was finally making progress. I
picked up some more English and learned a lot about American culture and customs. Then I became
even more engaged, I joined the school tennis team and even became the only Chinese cheerleader in
our school. Slowly, I found out that Daniela and I share a lot in common: we both love reading, eating
healthy and working out. Nowadays she helps me enhance my English and I help her learn how to be

Introduction
Capital of Queensland, and the third largest city in Australia, Brisbane is located on the east coast of
Australia. According to the Australian bureau of statistics (2013 2014) it has a population of 2.27
million people, making it one of the country s most populated cities. As a major metropolitan city,
altering current practices to more sustainable ones is a top priority.
One of many sustainable projects in Brisbane was incorporating cycling into their public transport
network. Cycling as an active mode of transport was a very appealing idea to many cities worldwide,

Taking a Look at Migraines
Migraines
Migraines, the head pounding agony that is experienced by millions worldwide. They are severe,
reoccurring headaches which can last as long as 72 hours. Many who suffer from migraines also
experience nausea and sensitivity to noise, light and smell.
THE HISTORY
Migraines aren t recent, in fact that have been around since as early as 7,000 BC, but unfortunately
valid treatment was not around back then. Trepenation is the earliest form of treatment available for
migraines, in which one purposefully drilled multiple holes into the head of the sufferer in order to
remove the evil spirits from one s head and was believed to be effective whether that point of view
was developed from being consistently closed minded or the surviving patients had experienced the
absolute pinnacle of the Placebo effect . The first effective form of treatment for migraines was only
developed multiple thousand years later in 1868, in which a substance created from a fungus known as
ergot was used. It continued to be used and developed until eventually during the late 20th century
when more effective methods were created and confirmed.
SYMPTOMS
Unfortunately migraines are not as simple as the occasional headache, but generally occur in phases
which are as follows.
The Prodrome phase: The phase that generally occurs first, it is majority mood related but includes a
few physical characteristics. In this phase, one finds themselves in a state of depression, often fatigued

Adults and children alike enjoy chewing gum, but while chewing gum can have its advantages, such
as freshening breath, it can also have its disadvantages. Being aware of the detrimental effects of gum
can help consumers make healthful decisions when next purchasing and planning on chewing gum.
1. Plaque Formation
Plaque is a clear bio film of buildup on the teeth that can lead to both tooth decay and gum disease.
Chewing gum or eating any food can cause plaque to form. After consuming food or chewing gum,
plaque can formulate on the teeth within a few hours. The bacteria found in plaque can directly lead to
tooth decay. If plaque is not removed from teeth quickly enough through brushing and flossing,
bacteria can calcify, turn in to tartar

Capuchin Monkeys
1) Introduction: Capuchin Monkeys are found in the neotropical forests of Central America. Animal
Diversity Web states that the Capuchins have, one of the widest ranges of all New World Monkeys.
Capuchin Monkeys are easily adaptable to many different habitats. They can live in a variety of forest
types, both wet and dry. The University of Wisconsin Primate Research Center notes that, All
Capuchins live in dense habitats. They are arboreal and usually sleep on a branch. This being said they
can survive in an abundance of areas because of their some special features. These features include
strong gripping hands and a grasping tail, giving these monkeys have a wide range of locomotion.
They are able to run, leap, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then they proceed to slam the rock (as a tool) on the nut to crack it open. Onekind.org mentions that
the Capuchins will collect their palm nuts and then transfer them to the anvils for the purpose of
cracking them open easier. The use of the anvil is another example of the Capuchin tool use. The
Capuchins ability to think ahead and bring the nuts to the anvil show a very skilled way of thinking in
regards to these tools. A third example of tool use in Capuchins is their use of sticks. Onekind.org
says, capuchins readily insert a stick into a tube containing viscous food that clings to the stick, which
they then extract and lick. The Capuchins will then use the stick for other things; once they have a tool
they seem to use it for as much as possible, finding multiple different uses for it. They will use these
sticks to get their prey out from tiny spaces and also as, a rake to sweep objects or food toward
themselves.
3) Captive Capuchins The Journal of Comparative Psychology has one of Fragaszy s studies where the
Capuchins were studied in labs to try and find food hidden under cups. The first example of this is
called matching to sample. There was a small stair set with two tiers; the bottom containing two
different sized cups and the top tier having one cup matching one of the bottom two. The experimenter
would (out of the monkeys view) put the food under the cup on the bottom tier that matched that of
the top tier. The Capuchins then had

The Incredible Power of One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich
It has been Russian writers in particular, who for two centuries have struggled against censorship and
oppression to accomplish two great tasks: to create innovative and meaningful art, and to use that art
to make a statement about a specifically Russian predicament. So often the theme was political, and so
many generations of Russians criticised Mother Russia for her backward ways. Vissarion Belinsky s
caustic admonitions in his Letter to Gogol were long a rallying cry for writers: This is why, especially
among us, universal attention is paid...to every manifestation of any so called liberal trend, no matter

Much of GULAG was based on hundreds of letters and memoirs that former prisoners mailed to
Solzhenitsyn after One Day was published. (Remnick, 119)
When reading One Day it is overwhelming to comprehend and imagine this single dawn to dusk
description, with the hindsight to understand that millions of multitudes of men and women suffered
through such an evil scheme of servitude of cruelty.
One Day was the first book of its kind to be printed in Russia. Miraculously, it was not only printed,
but subsequently soldto the citizenry, who were actually allowed to read it. This unheard of event
occurred during a very delicate period of time known as the Khrushchev thaw , when open
condemnation of the cult of personality began to become commonplace, even expected. These brief
years of relief enjoyed a momentary artistic flowering, and poets like Yevgeny Yevtushenko and
Anderi Voznezensky, among others, began to emerge. During Khrushchev s cultural thaw, plays or
novels such as Solzhenitsyn s One Day in the Life of Ivan Denizovich were the primary signs of new
freedom. (Smith, 110) The response to this little book was immense, and an interesting documentation
of varied responses to it is included in Leopold Lebedze s work, Solzhenitsyn: A Documentary

Narby Research Chapter 5 Summary
Objective: In this chapter Narby researches past findings of intelligence in animals and plants. Some
examples include the self awareness of dolphins and crows creating tools. Narby s definition of
intelligence seems to change to being capable of consciously making decisions.
Subjective: One part of this chapter I was able to associate to was the part about parrots answering
questions. I could relate to this because I remember seeing a parrot identify shapes once while I was
on vacation. Initially it blew my mind, but I later convinced myself it was a routine, however now it
makes sense, parrots are capable of learning.
i) The problem with these definitions of intelligence, is that they can only be applied to humans. So
based off of these definitions, no other species can be intelligent even if they act in such ways that
would require intelligence (43 44) ii) Monod didn t believe there was intelligence in nature. He

Much like the scientists in previous chapters, Martin Giurfa thinks bees are much more than the
machines they had been referred to as by Monod. Narby mentions how Giurfa s studies showed that
bees could grasp abstract concepts like identifying corresponding images to find a reward. The bees
were even able to figure out to recognize and match new patterns after the original image was
changed.
Subjective: I am conflicted about this experiment because it s cool and cruel at the same time. I think
it s cool that bees are able to learn to match corresponding images to find food, meaning that they are
able to learn new processes for finding food. However, it is also cruel because Narby mentions that
once the bees got to the food, they repeatedly tried flying straight up, hitting a plexiglass cover,
instead of exiting through the tubes. This means that even though the bees were successful, they

contending loyalties when it comes to some nations aspects of life. Different lifestyles under the same

The Mohawk that were protesting to protect their traditional land, were bombarded with thousands of

Analysis Of George Churchill s The Great Gatsby
Exordium On behalf of Mrs. Churchill, the Churchill family, the British nation, and those around the
world, we bid farewell to a great man, leader, and friend. This day I am both honored and saddened. I
am honored to have this opportunity to highlight his life. I am saddened that the world will no longer
have him. A man who brought his country and its citizens through terrible destruction. Churchill was a
friend with whom the differences between us were vast. Our stance and opinions regarding our nations

world peace. Churchill persevered with tenacity and vigor to change my mind, to no avail. Every

People turned to him in times of trouble to find a compassionate, courageous human being that cared
about them and their well being. Churchill had a gift to bring peace and unity through his excellent
speaking ability and genuine concern for his common man. He instilled trust and belief in people that
the government figures honestly cared. With this, Churchill offered hope and conveyed confidence to
his fellow Britons. He displayed his famous V hand gesture to represent that he wanted to be
victorious. He would often survey the damage from the daily bombings and console the weary. On a
morning after a night bombing, Churchill watched a woman pulled from the rubble. The woman asked
Churchill, When are we going to bomb Berlin? Churchill replied, You leave that to me. He gave hope
and confidence to the people who turned to him. In doing so, he created unity, courage, and peace to
those around him. Churchill made every effort to offer optimism to the people of Britain and the
world. He truly wanted to protect the citizens of his homeland from harm and the tragedy that loomed
around them. He endured in times of despair. It is tragic that this war has begun and caused such
destruction and chaos. Britain alone has suffered from the loss of thousands of homes and lives. I
believe in freedom for all, and I also believe in supporting a man. His great courage and strength have

The Miranda Warnings
Miranda Warnings The so called Miranda warnings were developed in response to the Supreme Court
s decision in Miranda v. Arizona, 384 U.S. 436 (1966). Many people believe that this landmark
decision invented the rights that are in the Miranda warning. It did not. The rights that are included in
the Miranda warning are guaranteed in the Constitution. Furthermore, the e foundations for Miranda v.
Arizona (1966) were laid in Malloy v. Hogan (1964) which applied the privilege against self
incrimination to state criminal proceedings and Escobedo v. Illinois (1964) which allowed
consultation with an attorney about the privilege against self incrimination (Anonymous, 2004).
However, prior to this decision, law enforcement officials did not have to ensure that criminal suspects
were aware of their rights prior to engaging in an interrogation. In the underlying case, Ernesto
Miranda was arrested for the kidnapping and rape of a woman. After two hours of police interrogation,
he signed a written confession. Miranda was never informed of his right to council, his right to remain
silent, or of the fact that statements he made could be used against him. Miranda s attorney attempted
to have his confession excluded at trial, but the trial court allowed the confession and Miranda was
subsequently convicted of rape and kidnapping. Miranda appealed the decision to the Arizona
Supreme Court, which affirmed, based on the notion that Miranda had not sought out an attorney. The

SPARTA helps to supplement the UAAA and ensure federal legislation can support actions taken
against agents who break laws to coerce an athlete, especially an amateur, into signing a contract,
blackmailing them or misappropriating information to the athlete about future decisions. Literature
Review Mario Austin was a basketball standout at Mississippi State University when Bill Duffy, a
sport agent, convinced Austin to sign a contract with him and leave school early for the National
Basketball Association (NBA) Draft. Austin was drafted by the Chicago Bulls in the second round and
advised by Duffy to play for a professional basketball team in Russia, the CSKA Moscow (Heitner,
2009). In Heitner s research (2009), it was revealed that Austin felt that Duffy misled him to leave
school earlier than he wanted to. Austin eventually did bring a lawsuit against Duffy, but later the
lawsuit was dropped. SPARTA deals with the protection of amateur athletes in cases such as these,
where Austin may have believed the Duffy had already negotiated a deal with the Russian basketball
team before Austin decided whether or not to turn professional. Austin ended up dropping the lawsuit,
but if he had been able to prove that Duffy pre or post dated a contract then SPARTA would have had
legal recourse to protect Austin and reprimand Duffy. The unethical behavior of sport

The Great Chicago Fire of 1871 Essay
The Great Chicago Fire of 1871 was one of the largest disasters in American history. Practically
overnight the great city of Chicago was destroyed. Before the fire there was a large drought causing
everything to be dry and flammable, then a fire broke out in the O Leary s barn and spread throughout
the city. Many attempts were made to put out the fire but there were too many errors and problems in
the beginning. After the fire many people were left homeless and had to help build their city again

noticed it was a different fire and had his assistant strike the Box 342 for the fire department. Soon fire

The Disappearance Of Childhood By Neil Postman
Even though childhood has change for the better there is an argument stating that childhood is
disappearing at a dazzling speed (Postman, 1996) says that there is a closing gap between childhood
and adulthood. Neil Postman (1996) claims this in his book The Disappearance of Childhood .
Postman theory was purely based on the way that communications through technology were made
which shapes society today. He thinks that due to the technology such as television and the Internet
children nowadays are much likely to have more access to the adult world , thus childhood to be
disappearing (Postman, 1982). He claims its Frankenstein Syndrome consequence of the mass media
is mainly the responsible for the usage of television, and the social media. Palmer (2007) parallels this
study with Postman (1982) and thinks that parents tend to use technology such as television and
electronic games to keep their children occupied and to be quiet due to their busyness or maybe too
preoccupied by consumerism to give the children the traditional childhood. The book makes durable
case for the traditional values and through her study has noticed that children need to develop skills
such as developing their focus. She also recommends real food rather the ones high in sugar and more
fish oil, eaten at family meals. Another study has also been made by Pugh (2002) he proposes that
parents that spends time with and on their children is consumption as compensation . The parents who

Jackson Vs Kanye West Essay
In her epilogue article Crack Music: Michael Jackson s Invincible, Elizabeth Amisu brings to light a
multitude of striking similarities between a handful of seemingly unrelated artists. The artists in
question being Michael Jackson, Kanye West, and none other than William Shakespeare. Upon first
reading the article, I could see the similarities between Michael Jackson and Kanye West, as both were
black artists who were able to break through into the mainstream music industry despite institutional
limitations. However, I initially believed that their relation to Shakespeare was quite a stretch, but
after reading further realized that Shakespeare had many similar hurdles to overcome as Jackson and
West, just perhaps in different forms. Jackson, West, and Shakespeare all had to overcome a multitude
of obstacles in their own careers in order for their talents to be recognized by the mainstream. Jackson
had to overcome racial barriers that were designed to keep exclusively whites in the music industry. ...

For instance, both Michael Jackson and Kanye West brought new sounds to their respective genres.
Jackson brought rock aspects and soul aspects into the pop industry, and was one of the trailblazers
when it came to technological music. West integrated orchestral music and gospel choirs into a few of
his albums ( Kanye West, 2017). On top of that, both Jackson and West had sizable impacts on
industries outside of their main one, particularly the fashion industry. Michael Jackson s impact came
from the clothes that he wore in his short films and his live performances, iconic outfits such as the
Beat It Jacket, and the suit that he wore in Smooth Criminal. Kanye West actually held a stake in the
fashion industry, partnering with companies such as Nike early on and eventually launching his own

How Does Catherine Earnshaw Marry Edgar Linton
In Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë, Catherine Earnshaw is in love with Heathcliff, a poor orphan
who has become her foster brother. Their inseparable bond helps them survive the harshness and
cruelty of their lives. However, wealthy Edgar Linton is in love with her as well, and Catherine must
choose between them. Cathy sacrifices her future with Heathcliff so that she can marry Edgar Linton.
This reveals that she is selfish enough to want a comfortable life at the expense of her true love , but
that she is also pragmatic and knows that having more money will help Heathcliff into a better social
situation.
Cathy is shown to appreciate having expensive things and acting like the Lintons. Instead of a wild,
hatless little savage jumping into the house, and rushing to squeeze us all breathless, there lighted
from a handsome black pony a very dignified person, with brown ringlets falling from the cover of a
feathered beaver, and a long cloth habit, which she was obliged to hold up with both hands that she
might sail in. (Brontë 101). When she talks to Nelly about why she is forsaking Heathcliff to marry

The Links between Plato s Atlantis and Thera/ Santorini The most popular theory to date is that
Atlantis was once located in Thera/ Santorini. Thera remains quite popular among Vulcanologists,
archaeologist, historians and Geologists as the Thera did encounter a natural disaster before Plato s
time. This natural disaster was extremely catastrophic, it had caused the island of Thera to be
uninhabitable for a number years. Reports about Theran culture suggest that they were an intelligent
and somewhat advanced culture; also their religion seemed to resemble Plato s Atlantean culture.
Though unlike the various theories about Atlantis the Theran theory continues to provide evidence that
attempts to prove Atlantis existed.

This paper will identify the various major global crimes and criminal issues that affect national and
international criminal justice systems and processes. In addition, there will be a comparison and
contrast of the different criminal justice systems and how they have addressed major global crimes
and criminal issues. Global crime is an issue that threatens the safety and security of people all over
the world. Global crime can be international drug smuggling operations, human trafficking, or
international prostitution rings. Weapons trading are also a problem that exists all over the world.

An example of this is the central European countries, which is a centralized system. This means that
the police are almost like a military force. In contrast, the British operate on a decentralized platform,
which means that they operate more closely to the community than a centralized force. The Russian
police have a hard time with more sophisticated crimes such as money laundering or drug trafficking.
The Japanese criminal justice system works well because of police involvement with the citizens.
Japan is studied by many police researchers around the world because of the low crime rate. However,
in contrast many police entities in the Middle East countries do not strenuously try to block to global
criminal offenses. In Afghanistan, the Taliban was accused of working with Al Qaeda to plan and
execute the September 11th attacks in the United States. Terrorism is the biggest global crime that has
been identified in the 21st century. The United States is leading the fight against terrorism by striking
terrorist targets all over the world. There are many countries that treat terrorism as a military action
and many treat the crime as a police action. An example of this would be the country of Australia,
which treats terrorism as a police action and the Australian Federal Police and police tactical force
deals with the crime of terrorism, while Austria uses the EKO Cobra team and Austrian Military
Police to deal with terrorism. In America, many

Varicella Zoster virus that causes a blister like itchy rash all over the body. The rash is the disclosing
indication of chicken pox (Mayo Clinic 2015). While signs and symptoms of chicken pox will usually
appear one to two days prior to the rash, the rash itself will last from five to ten days. The symptoms

Varicella is endemic worldwide. In areas where the climate is temperate chicken pox lends itself to be
a childhood disease, with the highest incidence affecting preschool and young school age children.
The incidence of chicken pox is highest in the late winter and early spring. In climates that tend to be
more tropical, the incidence appears in the coolest, driest seasons and transmitted later in childhood or
early adulthood (Marin amp; Bialek 2015). In households where there are multiple family members,
the contagiousness is approximately 85%, but less in community exposure (Marin amp; Bialek 2015).
Since the utilization and application of childhood vaccinations for Varicella in the United States, a
consequential decline has presented itself. The risk of Chicken pox has remained higher in other parts
of the world. Other countries that have begun routinely immunizing their children and have seen a
decrease in incidents are Canada, Costa Rica, Germany, Greece, Korea, Latvia, Luxembourg, Qatar,
Saudi Arabia, UAE, Uruguay and some areas of Spain and Italy. The varicella vaccine is the best
prevention for chicken pox. According to the CDC it is estimated that vaccination of varicella
provides complete protection for approximately 90% of the children who

Definitions Of Leadership And Management
Definitions of leadership and management.
Although the interviews conducted were unstructured all three practitioners were asked for their
definition of leadership and management. It was thought that questions about leadership and
management could be interpreted in so many ways, whereas having their interpretation helped to
better understand where they were coming from. It was important to understand each individual
perception.
In the interviews conducted management was believed to generate responsibilities such as planning,
paperwork, day to day running and that health and safety is in place. Where as leadership was believed
to be more involved with what the children do, helping others perform their role, inspiring others. A
conversation with practitioner two, that was recorded in the field notes revealed staff not wanting to be
thought of as a manager, preconceived ideas of management made the role something they did not
want to aspire to. Authoritative was a word used. Practitioners stressed on their dislike for the term
managing ,
I don t like the idea of managing, I don t think I manage (Practitioner two).
As early years practitioners, the most important aspect of the job is working with the children.
Many complain of too much paper work that takes practitioners away from working with the children,
which most enjoy and a reason for their career choice in the first place. If practitioners link managerial
roles with paperwork, which most

Prison Is Too Violent For Young Offenders Essay
In the text, Prison is Too Violent for Young Offenders , written by Gary Scott, provides a discussion
that the youth offenders doesn t need to be incarnated to be rehabilitated. Prison yields negative

the cause of, they re undergoing developmental stage. Scott explains that the penitentiary develop the
survival instinct of the youth to use weapon. If changing the behavior of the young offender is the
goal, then incarceration is not the answer. Thus, in order to rehabilitate the juvenile, we should provide
the youth an environment, letting them have educational insight about their behavior. With the stand, I

At the age of 14, the youth offenders could tried as adults and be transferred to a level 4 maximum

According to Okonkwo (2012), youths should be treated differently than adults. Psychology
categorizes the age of 15 18 is the peak of cognitive development stage (webmd.com, 2016). It does
not support the idea of youth culpability, but it strengthens the claim of treatment towards the youth

suggests that experiences in his childhood would be repressed and affect the conscious mind as adults
(Ciccarelli, 2012). Thus, involvement of the children to the nature of penitentiary and the actions of
the detainee could affect the unconscious mind of the youth that can lead to a higher possibility of
troublesome behavior. However, psychological factors are often taken less consideration in the
decision making of the juvenile delinquency. Still, many of the other states than California still follow
the rules of incarcerating a youth offender and some state become deviant in the norm like

Essay about The Future of Cyborgs
The Future of Cyborgs
Terminator and Bladerunner, portrayed cyborgs or cybernetic organisms as creatures of destruction.
Are they really as horrible as the movies make them out to be? They can be more useful than
perceived; it is necessary to first perfect the technology involved in creating and operating them. In
this paper, I will describe how these cyborgs work and how they are portrayed in the movies.
Furthermore, I will explain the helpful ways that they are expected to perform in the future.
Cyborgs are a very complex creation of the future. The general concept is that they cannot be
recognized as non humans. Although it has a programmed mission, this unit thinks and reacts on its
own. The understructure is made of a very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the following scenes, you can see the complex design and circuitry of the cyborg. He is then blown
into many pieces, but still his intact torso claws its way toward its target. Finally, he is destroyed by a
metal stamp, which crushes him. This perseverance shows that cyborgs are very strong, nearly
indestructible creations.
In the movie Bladerunner, the cyborgs were less distinguishable from humans. The cyborgs in this
movie were referred to as replicants. They represented a computer mind implanted into a human body.
They were created to be slaves in the New World. They were designed to live only four years in
length. This was all before there was an uprising and many of them escaped. Those who did not
escape were kept under tight surveillance and lived out their four years. The others that escaped were
hunted down by the bladerunners. The reason the replicants were such a threat is that their life span
was only four years.
They plundered and killed to try to get an extension on their life. They performed all this horrible
actions in vain because there was no way to extend their life. When caught, they were retired, which
was what their execution was called. The Replicants were extremely difficult to recognize. They had
to be put through a series of tests and questions to determine if they were replicants. The key to
recognition was in the eyes. As you can see by their portrayal in these two movies, cyborgs were evil
creatures that were nearly

Using A Computer Generated Random Number Table
To prevent bias and confounding in treatment assignment, randomization was completed. 10 (5 men, 5
women) participants (see Table 1) were each evaluated in person at the Howard University Speech and
Hearing Clinic. Each of which provided written informed consent for participation. Through the use of
a computer generated random number table, each participant was assigned their method of treatment,

A Nutty Idea Worksheet Analysis
For the A Nutty Idea worksheet, I had to convert the ingredients from a the Turtle Sundae Mix the
Banana Split Mix. The ingredients and measurements basically stays the same except for the
measurement of Pecans and Rainbow Sprinkles on the new Banana Split Mix. I am given the
measurements for each ingredient that make up the 6 oz bag of Turtle Sundae Mix; but, the units are
not all the same. So, first, I have to convert each ingredient measurement to ounce before I can move
on to solve the problem. The measurement for the Chocolate covered peanuts is given in ounce
already, 1.5 oz. So I didn t have to do anything to this. The second item is a ratio of 1:8 Vanilla Yogurt
covered peanuts to Chocolate covered peanuts. I turned the 1:8 ratio into fractions and then ... Show

The instruction says that the Salted Caramel will be substituted with Banana Chips and that the Pecans
from the previous packaging will now be 1/5 less that the original measurement for the new
packaging. It also states the Rainbow Sprinkles measurement will be the remaining ounces that is
unaccounted for to make the total 6 oz. All the other ingredient measurements stay the same except for
Pecan and Rainbow Sprinkles. So what I did was I used the fraction form of the Pecan and subtracted
1/5 from it. My equation was 3/20 1/5, which became 3/20 4/20. The answer I got was 1/20 or 0.05.
This means that the amount of Pecans in the new Banana Split Mix will be zero because the answer is
a negative number. I then added all the measurements together and subtracted it from the total 6 oz to
get the amount of Rainbow Sprinkles. My equation was 1.5 oz + 0.19 oz + 0.57 oz 0.05 + 2.82 = 5.03
oz. Then I subtracted this number from the 6 oz. My equations was 6 oz 5.03 oz = 0.97oz. This is the
unit amount of Rainbow Sprinkles that will be in the 6 oz of Banana Split

  • 2. The Everyday Is Important For Sociological Research This essay will argue that the setting of the everyday is important for sociological research. Through its investigation it becomes evident how various types of social structures and institutions have an ability to influence behaviours and emotions of individuals. The sociological research of the everyday covers a diverse range of theories, as individuals live and conduct themselves by various standards, contexts, and structures (Heller, 1984, p. 3), and it is this kind of interaction that is taken for granted and thus in need of exploration. It is through the examination of the socialisation occurring in the everyday between individuals, institutions, rules, and culture, that it becomes evident that the obvious is often not so obvious (Newman et al., 2013). This essay utilises the sociological imagination to express this importance of the everyday through the exploration of three aspects of socialisation, these being employment, mass media, and social deviance. It is these kinds of socialisations occurring in the everyday that illustrate how social structures and institutions influence behaviours and emotions, and hence also prove the everyday as an important setting for sociological research. Have you ever wondered whether your thoughts and feelings are your own? (Gavin Smith) It is through the sociological research of the events and happenings in the everyday that this important question can be and is addressed quite repetitively. First, however in order to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is often said that once you find the right book, you could go anywhere. Literacy is one of the most important things that a child could ever learn. In order to succeed in society today, one must be able to read, write, speak and even listen. There has been great debate over the different approaches when it comes to teaching children how to read. This essay will go more in depth on both approaches, how the writer learned how to read, how the writer will teach their students how to read. Berardinelli develops and supports the major claim by explaining what he saw in the movie that made him believe it was inspiring. James wrote this review in order to make people want to watch the movie. The author connects with his audience by talking about how each of the actors showed the emotion of the book and put the true emotion on the screen. Berardinelli proves many different reasons why the To Kill a Mockingbird movie truly proved it s connection to the book. • 5. When I Came To America When I came to America from China at age 16, everyone around me appeared to be different. However, I didn t just talk to my Chinese friends. I pushed myself outside of my bubble; I tried my best to make friends with American students, while I still maintained good relationships with my Chinese friends. America is very different from what I expected, everyone speaks so fast and unclear; it almost made English a completely different language from what I had already learned. As I was trying to make friends, I realized that Chinese culture had made me different from Americans; things that I was curious about as a Chinese person were very private to American students. For example, in America, people won t mention what their parents jobs are when they meet someone for the first time. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I would laugh when she and her friends laughed, even if I didn t understand the joke at all. I tried using slang as often as I could, even though I wasn t sure what any of it meant. However, after an entire year of frustration and self motivation, I was finally making progress. I picked up some more English and learned a lot about American culture and customs. Then I became even more engaged, I joined the school tennis team and even became the only Chinese cheerleader in our school. • 7. Taking a Look at Migraines Migraines Migraines, the head pounding agony that is experienced by millions worldwide. They are severe, reoccurring headaches which can last as long as 72 hours. Many who suffer from migraines also experience nausea and sensitivity to noise, light and smell. THE HISTORY Migraines aren t recent, in fact that have been around since as early as 7,000 BC, but unfortunately valid treatment was not around back then. Trepenation is the earliest form of treatment available for migraines, in which one purposefully drilled multiple holes into the head of the sufferer in order to remove the evil spirits from one s head and was believed to be effective whether that point of view was developed from being consistently closed minded or the surviving patients had experienced the absolute pinnacle of the Placebo effect . The first effective form of treatment for migraines was only developed multiple thousand years later in 1868, in which a substance created from a fungus known as ergot was used. It continued to be used and developed until eventually during the late 20th century when more effective methods were created and confirmed. SYMPTOMS Unfortunately migraines are not as simple as the occasional headache, but generally occur in phases which are as follows. The Prodrome phase: The phase that generally occurs first, it is majority mood related but includes a few physical characteristics. In this phase, one finds themselves in a state of depression, often fatigued as well, as this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Then they proceed to slam the rock (as a tool) on the nut to crack it open. Onekind.org mentions that the Capuchins will collect their palm nuts and then transfer them to the anvils for the purpose of cracking them open easier. The use of the anvil is another example of the Capuchin tool use. The Capuchins ability to think ahead and bring the nuts to the anvil show a very skilled way of thinking in regards to these tools. A third example of tool use in Capuchins is their use of sticks. Onekind.org says, capuchins readily insert a stick into a tube containing viscous food that clings to the stick, which they then extract and lick. The Capuchins will then use the stick for other things; once they have a tool they seem to use it for as much as possible, finding multiple different uses for it. They will use these sticks to get their prey out from tiny spaces and also as, a rake to sweep objects or food toward themselves. 3) Captive Capuchins The Journal of Comparative Psychology has one of Fragaszy s studies where the Capuchins were studied in labs to try and find food hidden under cups. The first example of this is called matching to sample. There was a small stair set with two tiers; the bottom containing two different sized cups and the top tier having one cup matching one of the bottom two. The experimenter would (out of the monkeys view) put the food under the cup on the bottom tier that matched that of the top tier. The Capuchins then had ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Incredible Power of One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich It has been Russian writers in particular, who for two centuries have struggled against censorship and oppression to accomplish two great tasks: to create innovative and meaningful art, and to use that art to make a statement about a specifically Russian predicament. So often the theme was political, and so many generations of Russians criticised Mother Russia for her backward ways. (Remnick, 119) When reading One Day it is overwhelming to comprehend and imagine this single dawn to dusk description, with the hindsight to understand that millions of multitudes of men and women suffered through such an evil scheme of servitude of cruelty. One Day was the first book of its kind to be printed in Russia. Miraculously, it was not only printed, but subsequently soldto the citizenry, who were actually allowed to read it. This unheard of event occurred during a very delicate period of time known as the Khrushchev thaw , when open condemnation of the cult of personality began to become commonplace, even expected. These brief years of relief enjoyed a momentary artistic flowering, and poets like Yevgeny Yevtushenko and Anderi Voznezensky, among others, began to emerge. During Khrushchev s cultural thaw, plays or novels such as Solzhenitsyn s One Day in the Life of Ivan Denizovich were the primary signs of new freedom. • 11. Narby Research Chapter 5 Summary Objective: In this chapter Narby researches past findings of intelligence in animals and plants. Some examples include the self awareness of dolphins and crows creating tools. Narby s definition of intelligence seems to change to being capable of consciously making decisions. Subjective: One part of this chapter I was able to associate to was the part about parrots answering questions. I could relate to this because I remember seeing a parrot identify shapes once while I was on vacation. Initially it blew my mind, but I later convinced myself it was a routine, however now it makes sense, parrots are capable of learning. i) The problem with these definitions of intelligence, is that they can only be applied to humans. So based off of these definitions, no other species can be intelligent even if they act in such ways that would require intelligence (43 44) ii) Monod didn t believe there was intelligence in nature. The bees were even able to figure out to recognize and match new patterns after the original image was changed. Subjective: I am conflicted about this experiment because it s cool and cruel at the same time. I think it s cool that bees are able to learn to match corresponding images to find food, meaning that they are able to learn new processes for finding food. • 14. The Miranda Warnings Miranda Warnings The so called Miranda warnings were developed in response to the Supreme Court s decision in Miranda v. Arizona, 384 U.S. 436 (1966). Many people believe that this landmark decision invented the rights that are in the Miranda warning. It did not. The rights that are included in the Miranda warning are guaranteed in the Constitution. Furthermore, the e foundations for Miranda v. Arizona (1966) were laid in Malloy v. Hogan (1964) which applied the privilege against self incrimination to state criminal proceedings and Escobedo v. Illinois (1964) which allowed consultation with an attorney about the privilege against self incrimination (Anonymous, 2004). However, prior to this decision, law enforcement officials did not have to ensure that criminal suspects were aware of their rights prior to engaging in an interrogation. In the underlying case, Ernesto Miranda was arrested for the kidnapping and rape of a woman. After two hours of police interrogation, he signed a written confession. Miranda was never informed of his right to council, his right to remain silent, or of the fact that statements he made could be used against him. Miranda s attorney attempted to have his confession excluded at trial, but the trial court allowed the confession and Miranda was subsequently convicted of rape and kidnapping. Miranda appealed the decision to the Arizona Supreme Court, which affirmed, based on the notion that Miranda had not sought out an attorney. The U.S. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Literature Review Mario Austin was a basketball standout at Mississippi State University when Bill Duffy, a sport agent, convinced Austin to sign a contract with him and leave school early for the National Basketball Association (NBA) Draft. Austin was drafted by the Chicago Bulls in the second round and advised by Duffy to play for a professional basketball team in Russia, the CSKA Moscow (Heitner, 2009). In Heitner s research (2009), it was revealed that Austin felt that Duffy misled him to leave school earlier than he wanted to. Austin eventually did bring a lawsuit against Duffy, but later the lawsuit was dropped. SPARTA deals with the protection of amateur athletes in cases such as these, where Austin may have believed the Duffy had already negotiated a deal with the Russian basketball team before Austin decided whether or not to turn professional. Austin ended up dropping the lawsuit, but if he had been able to prove that Duffy pre or post dated a contract then SPARTA would have had legal recourse to protect Austin and reprimand Duffy. The Disappearance Of Childhood By Neil Postman Even though childhood has change for the better there is an argument stating that childhood is disappearing at a dazzling speed (Postman, 1996) says that there is a closing gap between childhood and adulthood. Neil Postman (1996) claims this in his book The Disappearance of Childhood . Postman theory was purely based on the way that communications through technology were made which shapes society today. He thinks that due to the technology such as television and the Internet children nowadays are much likely to have more access to the adult world , thus childhood to be disappearing (Postman, 1982). He claims its Frankenstein Syndrome consequence of the mass media is mainly the responsible for the usage of television, and the social media. Palmer (2007) parallels this study with Postman (1982) and thinks that parents tend to use technology such as television and electronic games to keep their children occupied and to be quiet due to their busyness or maybe too preoccupied by consumerism to give the children the traditional childhood. The book makes durable case for the traditional values and through her study has noticed that children need to develop skills such as developing their focus. She also recommends real food rather the ones high in sugar and more fish oil, eaten at family meals. Another study has also been made by Pugh (2002) he proposes that parents that spends time with and on their children is consumption as compensation . The parents who are cash rich ... Jackson Vs Kanye West Essay In her epilogue article Crack Music: Michael Jackson s Invincible, Elizabeth Amisu brings to light a multitude of striking similarities between a handful of seemingly unrelated artists. The artists in question being Michael Jackson, Kanye West, and none other than William Shakespeare. Upon first reading the article, I could see the similarities between Michael Jackson and Kanye West, as both were black artists who were able to break through into the mainstream music industry despite institutional limitations. However, I initially believed that their relation to Shakespeare was quite a stretch, but after reading further realized that Shakespeare had many similar hurdles to overcome as Jackson and West, just perhaps in different forms. Jackson, West, and Shakespeare all had to overcome a multitude of obstacles in their own careers in order for their talents to be recognized by the mainstream. Jackson had to overcome racial barriers that were designed to keep exclusively whites in the music industry. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, both Michael Jackson and Kanye West brought new sounds to their respective genres. Jackson brought rock aspects and soul aspects into the pop industry, and was one of the trailblazers when it came to technological music. West integrated orchestral music and gospel choirs into a few of his albums ( Kanye West, 2017). On top of that, both Jackson and West had sizable impacts on industries outside of their main one, particularly the fashion industry. Michael Jackson s impact came from the clothes that he wore in his short films and his live performances, iconic outfits such as the Beat It Jacket, and the suit that he wore in Smooth Criminal. Kanye West actually held a stake in the fashion industry, partnering with companies such as Nike early on and eventually launching his own apparel ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. How Does Catherine Earnshaw Marry Edgar Linton In Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë, Catherine Earnshaw is in love with Heathcliff, a poor orphan who has become her foster brother. Their inseparable bond helps them survive the harshness and cruelty of their lives. However, wealthy Edgar Linton is in love with her as well, and Catherine must choose between them. Cathy sacrifices her future with Heathcliff so that she can marry Edgar Linton. This reveals that she is selfish enough to want a comfortable life at the expense of her true love , but that she is also pragmatic and knows that having more money will help Heathcliff into a better social situation. Cathy is shown to appreciate having expensive things and acting like the Lintons. Instead of a wild, hatless little savage jumping into the house, and rushing to squeeze us all breathless, there lighted from a handsome black pony a very dignified person, with brown ringlets falling from the cover of a feathered beaver, and a long cloth habit, which she was obliged to hold up with both hands that she might sail in. (Brontë 101). Although the interviews conducted were unstructured all three practitioners were asked for their definition of leadership and management. It was thought that questions about leadership and management could be interpreted in so many ways, whereas having their interpretation helped to better understand where they were coming from. It was important to understand each individual perception. In the interviews conducted management was believed to generate responsibilities such as planning, paperwork, day to day running and that health and safety is in place. Where as leadership was believed to be more involved with what the children do, helping others perform their role, inspiring others. A conversation with practitioner two, that was recorded in the field notes revealed staff not wanting to be thought of as a manager, preconceived ideas of management made the role something they did not want to aspire to. The cyborgs in this movie were referred to as replicants. They represented a computer mind implanted into a human body. They were created to be slaves in the New World. They were designed to live only four years in length. This was all before there was an uprising and many of them escaped. Those who did not escape were kept under tight surveillance and lived out their four years. The others that escaped were hunted down by the bladerunners. The reason the replicants were such a threat is that their life span was only four years. They plundered and killed to try to get an extension on their life. They performed all this horrible actions in vain because there was no way to extend their life. When caught, they were retired, which was what their execution was called. The Replicants were extremely difficult to recognize. They had to be put through a series of tests and questions to determine if they were replicants. The key to recognition was in the eyes. I am given the measurements for each ingredient that make up the 6 oz bag of Turtle Sundae Mix; but, the units are not all the same. It also states the Rainbow Sprinkles measurement will be the remaining ounces that is unaccounted for to make the total 6 oz. All the other ingredient measurements stay the same except for Pecan and Rainbow Sprinkles. So what I did was I used the fraction form of the Pecan and subtracted 1/5 from it. My equation was 3/20 1/5, which became 3/20 4/20. The answer I got was 1/20 or 0.05. This means that the amount of Pecans in the new Banana Split Mix will be zero because the answer is a negative number.
