Pet Ownership Is An Unnecessary Hassle
4
Pet Ownership is an Unnecessary Hassle Pet ownership is often times seen as an amazing experience. Pets are not
just all fun and games. Pets have to be cared for and nurtured just as humans are. Pets bare dependent on their
owners for a certain quality of life. This may sometimes cause owners stress. Pets can be very costly to maintain.
Many accommodations and adjustments have be made to properly care for and own a pet. Also pets can carry
infections and diseases that may be transmitted to humans. Pet ownership is an unnecessary hassle that can easily be
eliminated. Many pet owners underestimate the cost and responsibilities of owning a pet. Many pets are in

A zoonotic disease is a disease that can be transmitted from animal to human (Weber, 2005 p485). Different pets put
people at different health related risk. Birds can can carry and spread germs to people. Some species may carry
Salmonella or Chlamydia psittaci. It is unlikely to get sick from dogs and cats however, they may still be a health
risk due to germs they may carry. These germs may result in a bacterial disease if not dealt with properly. Fish,
amphibians, and reptiles all put you at risk for Salmonella (Weber, 2005). With all these infections and diseases
lingering on pets, young children and people with decrease immune systems are in danger. Also if pets aren t
cleaned after and groomed properly this could increase the risk. In the United States, over 350,000 people are
treated for bites every year and it is mostly children that are affected (Esposito, Picciolli, Semino, Principi, 2013).
Children are not aware when they are provoking these pets. The pets are not aware of age differences meaning they
don t know children don t know any better. Of all animal bites, dog bites account for over two thirds and cat bites
account for around 3 15% (Esposito, Picciolli, Semino, Principi, 2013). These bites, if not treated correctly, usually
lead to infection. Cat bites are more likely to result in an infection because they have sharper teeth which means
deeper wounds. With that being said, families with young children have to look

Essay On Mississippi History
Mississippi has a very rich history, and its history has made it the glorious state it is today. The first inhabitants of
Mississippi were the Native Americans; the three main tribes were the Chickasaw Indians who settled in the north
and eastern parts of the state, the Choctaw Indians who lived in the middle part of the state, and the Natchez Indians
who occupied the southwest region of the state. Many present day cities in Mississippi get their names from these
early tribes. Hernando De Soto was the first European to explore the state. He was from Spain and came in search
of gold. When he did not find great riches in gold, De Soto moved on to explore other regions of North America.
Next came the French explorer, Robert Cavalier who claimed the entire Mississippi Valley for France in 1682. The
first French settlement was started in Biloxi which today is called Ocean ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

On December 10th, 1817 Mississippi became the 20th state of the Union. Slaves were used to operate the large
plantations, and, in fact, slaves outnumbered the white settlers by 1860. The Civil War marked a big change in
Mississippi. With the election of Abraham Lincoln, slavery was abolished. Many Civil War battles were fought in
Mississippi. The most notable was the Battle of Vicksburg where Union and Confederate forces fought for 47
straight days. Much of Mississippi lay in ruins after the war and had to be rebuilt. The lumber industry flourished
during this period of reconstruction. The Great Depression was a very hard time for Mississippians. Many farmers
lost their land between 1929 and 1930. Cotton prices fell dramatically and many people were living in poverty.
With the coming of World War II industry soared and the building of an oil refinery once again made the state s
economy successful. By the late 1960 s there were more workers in manufacturing than there were farmers for the

looked up to his father, more than anyone. Recounting later in his life that if he could go back in time he would
become a farmer like his father. John was the eldest to two younger brothers Peter and Elihu. He was also the
second cousin to Samuel Adams who will later convince him to join the revolution, and third cousin to his future
wife Abigail Smith. Growing up on a farm the young John Adams was opened to the world around him.

The soldiers fired on the crowd killing five and injuring many more. The soldiers were arrested on criminal charges
and would be given a fair trial while Samuel Adams and his Sons of
Liberty group protest that these soldiers be hung for their killing of innocent protesters and the withdraw of British
soldiers from Boston. Captain Preston and his men seek the aid of a lawyer who will try their case. Every lawyer,
not wanting their reputations to be diminished, because they would be siding with the British soldiers, they enlist
the help of John Adams. Who is a stout supporter for the law, justice, and innocence, he accepts the case; even
though he and his family may become endangered. The trial began on October 24, 1770. Going into the trial Adams
realized that it would be an uphill battle, faced with a Bostonian jury and the threats and badgering against anyone
who would be a witness. Adams has to convince the jury that Captain Preston did not order his men to fire, and
were attacked by the crowd, while also proving that the crowd was a mob rather than a lawful assembly. From an
eye witness that was standing next to the Captain proclaims that he did not tell his soldiers to fire. More witness
confirm that the crowd was carrying clubs and sticks, while throwing oyster shells, snowballs, and rocks at the
soldiers. The most alarming find was that some witnesses confess that the crowd was daring the soldiers to fire.

Causes And Effects Of PTSD
The death of my father took a big toll on my family and I. We all fell into depression and are often going in and out
of it still. This led me to think about those who suffer in a more egregious manner and end up experiencing Post
Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). I can only empathize to an extent, but I do know there are many causes and
effects of PTSD. PTSD makes a big impact on all who have it; with its causes and effects and it s because of this
that those who suffer from it need help to cope with it. PTSD is a result of going through something traumatic
and/or life changing. The Nebraska Department of Veteran s Affairs reputed, PTSD is a psychiatric disorder that can

The stress ridden victims can go through re experiencing the event, doing their best to avoid anything similar to it,
feeling numb and isolated towards loved ones due to the fear brought on by the impact, and can also be on the alert
for more danger to arrive (Nebraska Department of Veteran s Affairs). They can also go through depression,
anxiety, substance abuse, and problems functioning after a war. (Nebraska Department of Veteran s Affairs). Staff
Sgt. Eric James was one of the few military members to be dishonorably discharged due to his mental illness. He
went into fits of rage and often drank due to his PTSD. His therapists were a part of this whole ordeal along with
higher ups within the Army because it took less time and money than therapy. This is not the correct way to help
those with PTSD. These Army veterans can t handle what they have witnessed on their own (Zwerdling). As
mentioned with the causes, they are now on the alert and have stress levels rising when they feel harmed (NHS).
Being taken out of the threatening situation isn t enough to cope with what has happened. Like with any impact in
life, talking and/or working through it helps one s brain to process what has happened as real, not real; ok or not.

Turnover Rate in Corrections
The Nation Wide Dilemma in Corrections CJ 2500: CORRECTIONS Professor November 04, 2012 Running Head:
Turnover Rate in Corrections Abstract Throughout the years, there has been one major dilemma that continues to
hassle the administration whose sole purpose is to provide institutional sanctions, treatment programs, and services
for managing criminal offenders. This dilemma is the high turnover rate of the Corrections Officers, whom agencies
nation wide are losing at an extremely high rate. Recent statistics indicate that nearly half of all Corrections

turnover rate is causing a staff ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Officers are being ordered in on their off days or holidays, forced to work mandatory overtime, a higher inmate to
Correctional Officer ratio, as well as experienced Officers having to work with an extensive amount of rookie or
inexperienced Correctional Officers. This combining of experienced officers with new hires, who have not received
any type of prior training, raises the stress level during dangerous interactions with inmates, as well lowering the
morale of the Officers who remain and attempt to complete their careers with a specific agency. This may be due to
long term employees realizing that many of the new hires are using their time as a Correctional Officer to gain
experience, or as a stepping stone to eventually become a road or patrol Officer, which may involve more
experienced Officers not spending the time necessary to assist, or provide On the job training to the new hires.
Additional causes of stress may include the threat of inmate violence, actual inmate violence, inmate demands and
manipulations, problems with co workers, as well as having a poor public image. For example, Between 1990 and
1995, the number of attacks on correctional officers in State and Federal prisons jumped by nearly one third, from
10,731 to 14,165 (Lommel, 2004). An additional stress added to a Correctional Officers life is being able to balance
and separate work from their personal relationships. Workdays at a correctional facility

Analysis Of Fun Home By Alison Bechdel
Alison Bechdel, a literary and queer theorist herself who would go on to coin the Bechdel test, grew up in close
proximity to theory. In a family of academics, with her teacher father and former actress mother, Bechdel was
always surrounded by literature, so when it comes to self discovery of her sexuality, it s no surprise that she turns to
the literary realm, from Rubyfruit Jungle to the Oxford English Dictionary, to understand herself. Bechdel s first
graphic memoir, Fun Home, examines her upbringing in a funeral home with her cold mother and her closeted
bisexual father, who commits suicide soon after Bechdel leaves for college. It engages in frequent literary and
theory illusions, beginning from the mention of Icarian Games on the very first page. While Bechdel s work seems
like it could be easily situated in structuralist theory, the work easily lends itself to a multiplicity of meanings, an
inherent feature of deconstruction work that allows readers to veer into feminist theory, queer theory, or even
Marxist theory. Just as Bechdel rewrites and reframes the events of her formative years multiple times throughout
the novel, the novel particularly lends itself to structuralist, deconstruction, queer, and feminist theory, which all
lead to particularly illuminating readings that compliment each other. Fun Home perhaps most glaringly fits into the
literary theory of structuralism, and its application becomes easy as soon Bechdel introduces the readers to her
father s constant rebuilding of their home on page 5. One of structuralism s main tenants is understanding the world
as discursively constructed, meaning that there is no inherent essence or nature that informs one s production,
whether that be behavior or presentation or style, and that one then understands the world through binary opposition
and discourse (Parker 77 81). Bechdel s father produces a perfected period piece facade for the Bechdel home,
which simultaneously indulged his obsessive love for home decor, an interest usually only allowed for homosexual
men, while providing the facade of an idealized happy homeplace. Analyzing the home s surface structure would
prove unfruitful for conveying any of the internalized conflict of the family, and

THE GREAT FIRE OF LONDON OF 1666
THE GREAT FIRE OF LONDON OF 1666 The Great Fire of London of 1666 that was started by Thomas Farrinor
s bakery caused the destruction of 80 percent of London and led to the creation of insurance and firefighting
companies. The fire marked a time of rebirth for the British capital since the city had to rebuild entirely. The fire
was quite an interesting event owing the fact that it caused such an extreme amount of destruction and took the lives
of only six people. Londoners remember the seventeenth century as a time of desolation, but the events that
occurred have impacted the world today. With the creation of insurance and firefighting, not only are people

Farrinor immediately ran upstairs and when he reached the top, he saw flames, but the flames were not near his
ovens, or even close to a pile of wood near the ovens (Shields 80 81). The family then searched for an escape route
out of the house (Alagna 4). Unable to exit downstairs due to a blocked path, the Farrinor family fled to the roof.
The family begged their maid to follow them but she was more afraid of heights than the fire. She stayed in the
house and was the first person to die in the Great Fire. The family, however, continued across rooftops until they
were safe from the fire (Shields 81). Subsequently, the flames were halfway across London Bridge soon after the
fire was started. Two groups of buildings, separated by a clearance, sat on London Bridge (Alagna 19). Pieces of the
burning buildings fell into the river causing the water to turn into smoke and steam (Hanson 53). The sights and
sounds of the London Bridge burning and falling in the water, created a dark perception for onlookers. The
previously mentioned clearance in the London Bridge was a successful firebreak in an earlier fire, and it was
successful again in the Great Fire. London was lucky that only one third of London Bridge burned (Alagna 19).
Furthermore, the fire continued to spread rapidly. Huge pieces of wood fell, burning and blazing, forming bridges
for the fire to spread to other buildings. Every house became fuel to the fire, so it could grow

Alcohol Consumption Among Youth Is Not A New Issue Essay
1. Introduction
Alcohol consumption amongst youth is not a new issue New Zealand has a long standing history of alcohol
consumption both good and bad. In New Zealand, as is also around the world, the consumption of alcohol has
baggage both good and bad. It is seen on a positive note as a social enabler, it allows oneself to let their guard down
a bit and feel at ease in situations out of their normal comfort zones, however to every story there is also a flip side,
and this is the idea that alcohol consumption is the cause of social harm.
These views are also reflected in the thoughts of many New Zealander s today. An online article, Contrary to belief,
we may be losing binge from our drinking culture (2012) highlights the disparities of views between those who are
50 years or older, and those I deem part of the youth of New Zealand who are 30 years or younger. The views show
that the older group believe that New Zealanders, especially the younger demographic have a problem with alcohol
consumption, however, those in the younger group acknowledged that as a society New Zealanders drink
excessively, many argued that we (New Zealand) was no different to any other country in regards to alcohol
consumption.
This perceived social norm of excessive drinking highlights the need to further explore how as a society we can
change the social norm so excessive drinking is not an issue without stigmatizing a particular segment of society.
This literature review, which is to explore

It was noted that many ethical issues may arise, relating to eligibility and criteria in identifying the subjects to be
used for testing. It was also noted that laws and regulations were formulated based on unethical principles that took
place in the past. The most obvious ones were the Tuskegee syphilis study, where the black male were used for the
experiment. This study comprised of 600 African American men, about 400 with syphilis cases and 200 men
without syphilis, in other words, the control group. And many of them died due to the study. It was discovered that
none of them were informed about the possible cure, neither were they treated with antibiotic
(http://phrp.nihtraining.com). Also, another unethical research practice conducted was the Nazi Medical War Crime,
in this experiment, thousands of prisoners were tortured by injecting them with gasoline and live viruses, immersing
them in ice water and forcing them to ingest poisons. Based on the information gathered from the reading, I have
realized that before an individual become part of a research study, there has to be an informed consent. Informed
consent promotes autonomy, which brings about respect for the person s dignity. Therefore, in order to protect the
participants in research, the ethical principles have to be followed. Such

JOSHUA by Joseph F. Girzone
A Book Report
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Joseph Francis Girzone is a priest. Advised by his doctor to withdraw from administrative work, he immediately set
about a new career as a writer and philosopher. Though only 54 years old at the time he wrote the book, his
experience as a priest had been unusual. He worked with teenage gangs in New York, and in the local mining area
of Pennsylvania. He taught in schools most of his life, and worked in parishes at the same time. He was chairman of
a government human rights commission which settled a jail riot and mediated racial tensions in public schools. On
numerous occasions, he was called upon to negotiate in prison disturbances.

He was the object of curiosity, because no one knew anything about him. There was something that magnetized
him, and drew the people to him. To everyone, Joshua was a simple woodcarver, but at the same time not so simple.
He was God s Son, but no one suspected. Joshua was friendly with everyone. They talked with him about
everything. He was very intelligent and almost everyone liked him. Mainly he talked about religion, the religion
that Jesus taught, a religion of freedom and without authority. Many people agreed with him, but a few strongly
disagreed: some priests, pastors, bishops and clergy in general. As a result of this disagreement, things became very
difficult for Joshua. He had to go to Rome to a congregation of bishops for a proceeding against him. He told the
bishops what he believed. After the proceeding he simply went away, without saying anything to anybody. The
bishops voted for censure. The bishops agreed that Joshua showed a hostile attitude towards authority, that his
criticism lacked understanding of the realities of life and the authority of Christ on earth. Joshua had to cease
talking about these matters to the faithful, under penalty of further censure. But Joshua had disappeared already. His
mission was over, so he went

Pioneers that Travelled across the Great Plains
Pioneers that travelled across the Great Plains would often run into trouble and suffer terrible deaths. The Donner
Party was one of those parties; however, the story connected to the name is much more infamous than others. It is a
story of suffering, betrayal, survival, and acts of necessity. Perhaps the most interesting fact about these acts is that
they were performed by everyday farmers, traders, and businessmen. The reasons for these acts were, more than
likely, out of the will to survive, but there may a greater story behind such acts of monstrosity.
People first started to travel (pioneer) to the west since the early 1800s. The reason to move varied from family to
family, many sought a new beginning from the economic depression in the late 1830s. Some wanted to escape
political strife and religious persecution. Some moved to join family members and seek adventure and new
opportunities. The majority of emigrants had as their main reason either land or gold. The most famously travelled
trail is the Oregon Trail. This trail is the nation s longest graveyard, killing nearly one tenth of all travelers (Utah
State History, 2014). Many wagon and hand cart groups took the rough 2,000 mile trail to go west; one of these
groups was the James Reed Party. It is more famously known as the Donner Party. A Common Goal

How Advertising Has Become An Increasingly A Hot Topic Essay
In this technology based era ridden with deregulation, advertising has become an increasingly hot topic. Advertising
helps consumers with buying decisions, boosts economic growth, and creates numerous job opportunities.
However, there is one ingredient within advertisements which is often overthrown for status and economic gain;
ethics. For example, in 2009, The FDA mentions Cheerios is branded in a way which makes its cereal sound like a
drug to prevent, mitigate, and treat high cholesterol and heart disease. ( FDA Warns Cheerios on Health Claims.
WebMD, n.d. Web. 12 Oct. 2016) According to the FDA, Cheerios advertising inappropriately highlights the
fantastical benefits of its cereal. Due to this, Cheerios was forced to spend millions re designing and re branding its
products. The absence of ethics is most rampant regarding tobacco advertisements. They offer seductive cues,
subjective product descriptions, and minimal information on their products. Thus, nearly 443,000 people die
prematurely each year from smoking. Tobacco products should not be advertised upon, as these advertisements
explore a plethora unethical values.
Several searches have revealed articles concerning the unethical advertising of tobacco products. These articles
illustrate the laws on advertising and what it means to advertise ethically, explore the many aspects of how
producers lie and deceive their customers, omit crucial facts pertaining to their product, and whether there should be

Causes Of Confucianism In China
China faced many weaknesses in the wake of Western civilization. One of the problems that the Chinese culture
faced peasant uprisings were frequent throughout China. When
Confucianism was strong, instability still broke out in China. Peasant uprisings were a common thing throughout
China. The successful revolts were given justification because it was assumed that they had been justified against
bad rulers who had broken the Confucian social contract. One of the most violent challenges to Confucian values
were capitalist modernity and
Christianity, which were the introduction western systems in the nineteenth century. The arrival of western
imperialists and their belief system was a catalyst for the Chinese to look at their own society and its faults. Many
Chinese people were poor and did not rise up against their fate.
Many women in China were oppressed physically, by being treated as social inferiors and being deprived of a good
education. Women were also oppressed physically by having their feet bound small. Western barbarians posed a
threat to the Chinese government because they were able to come to China and invade with impunity. Many radical
thinkers believe that the only reasonable response to the chaos in China was to declare that Confucian ideas and
values were responsible for the crisis in China. The Confucian past in China had corrupted the Chinese government
and exterminated Chinse culture and society from Western civilization.

Advantages Of Gender Neutral Bathrooms
Introduction: Arguments refer to exchange of different viewpoints on any topic. Rational argument is based on
sound reasoning and logic and not just meant for convincing others but providing evidence for the argument. Most
arguments are based on rationality where logic and evidence is combined support the argument.
Definition of terms: Rational comes from the Latin word rationalis, meaning reasonable or logical. If you re
rational, you do things based on logic, as opposed to impulse or whimsy (http://www.vocabulary.com/dictionary).
The question is is it advisable to have gender neutral bathrooms? Most schools have segregated washrooms, i.e.
separate washrooms for boys and girls. However, I feel that in modern times, it need not be so. Single user
bathrooms are meant for use by one person at a time and multi user bathrooms have stalls that can be used by
several people at one time. Gender neutral bathrooms can be used by anyone. Perhaps gender inclusive would be a
better word to use.

prevent bullying. Young children are capable of identifying their gender and need to feel comfortable in the school
environment. Separate bathrooms for transgender students would highlight them, increase social bias and make
them vulnerable to ridicule and violence. Bathrooms meant for all genders would help in more equality between the
sexes as it would force boys to accept that girls also use bathrooms and girls would have less fear of boys. Single
user unisex bathrooms are acceptable to many students as it ensures a degree of privacy. Multi user stalls are also
used in several schools. Students main purpose in coming to school is acquiring education. There should be no

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Narrative Criticism
In biblical study, Narrative Criticism has been developed against the evolutionary models of historical criticism,
which has been mainly focused to reenact the position and thought of the original writer and audience through
certain scientific and analysis of biblical material . This discipline is the study of a narrative text most likely similar
to any narrative literature. It is sub discipline of interpretation method under literary criticism, which emphases on
the literary form or shape of the text in its final form as pointer of what the texts meant. There is general agreement
among the various disciplines of literary approach, that they all consider Scripture as a literary document , rather
than a historical . These various disciplines, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

One of the potential weaknesses for Narrative criticism is a little concern for authorial intention. It is clear that,
someone who engaged in narrative criticism approach and cannot emphasize the plot, the character, and lose the

high tendency to look scripture as any other literature and fiction, because they used a methodology of the same

In general, with careful managing of those negative sides mentioned in the above, narrative criticism is a better and
significant approach that does result in a renewed focus on the text, and this focus maintains a deliberate and well

A Research On The Kansas State University Housing
Intro As I graduated high school, I always had the desire to up my career. So, my next step is to go to college. A
week later, I started to think how am I going to live on my own? Where will I stay at, for my existing 4 years or

Globalization And The European Union
There are in some areas of globalization that can cause drawbacks, which were made prevalent with the European
Union. The main drawback within the European Union was its economy. If one country within the organization
were to have economic crisis then that country would affect all other country members. This was made clear in
2010 with the economic crisis presented in Greece. Many other countries within the Union were left to bail out the
Greece economy; which in turn, hurt their own economies. The situation with Greece and the other European Union
members is still a current issue; however, Union members say that they will continue to contribute to struggling

As of 2012, only seventeen of members of the European Union have decided to use Euros as their currency. In
order for the members that adopted the Euro as their currency to successfully help their economic problems, the
Eurozone members had to follow strict instructions put into place the European Union. The strict policies included
strict control over inflation, government debt, and long term interest rates (Mckee 525). The union put these strict
policies into place to give the union the tools that it needed to take in order to help fix the economic crisis in each

the economic crisis within each country to fail because of the different interests by each individual country.
Addressing some issues, the European Union decided to issue 750 million Euros in order to start the process of

not enough in order to help each countries individual financial crisis. As of now, the union has to increase the

the European Union s economic plans is finding the money to keep funding countries with low economic growth.

One Hundred Years Of Solitude Intertwining Family Tree
Intertwining Family Tree In the book One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, the Buendia
family establishes the town of Macondo, located in Columbia, in the 18th century. The Buendia s family had
created the town on their own and they were also left there alone, in solitude, at the end book. Hence the name of
the novel. To create absolute solitude Marquez had to create incest within the Buendia family. Incest means that

creates an interlocking family tree. With the family reproducing within the household they have isolated themselves

would be to create a family with an obsession with incest. That way no one would leave and the house would only

villagers in the novel because if it was the author wouldn t be able to tell a tale of One Hundred Years of Solitude .
Solitude would be broken if the outsiders saw incest as something else rather than normal. Incest the first sin and

the half duplex channel which can move that data to multiple locations, however it cannot move them all at the

Device that Can Process the Output of a Guitar Pickup and...
The objective of this project is to design and created a device that can process the output of a guitar pickup and
automatically tune the guitar to the desired overall tuning. The core principles of the projects would be a device that
is built exclusively for tuning a guitar. The device developed from the current project should be both gentle and
durable. When the user strums all six strings together, the vibrations are detected by a piezoelectric sensor which
utilizes an algorithm to determine each strings fundamental frequency. The tuning peg is then turned by a servo,
which is controlled by a microcontroller, to adjust the tension until the desert are detected by a piezoelectric sensor
which utilizes an algorithm to determine each strings fundamental frequency.
Since our turning device developed from this project should be compatible with all types of electric guitar, my
specific contributions to the project deals with system design, experimental analysis and problem solving. I come
up with the hardware design. Like we said before, there are other devices out there such as Tropical Tune s Self
Tuning system, so the signal processing part of our design has proven durable. The problem we encounter the most
is the one deals with actual hardware, in this case the displacement of six tuning pegs of the different kind of
guitars. The copper wire design that allows for multiple string tuning and is lightweight, which makes this a
convenient, easy to carry tuning device. The

Rhetorical Analysis Of State Of Oregon Vs Kipland
A Rhetorical Analysis of State of Oregon v. Kipland Philip Kinkel
Introduction
The human brain is a remarkably intricate organ. Therefore, simple mutations in its complexity can result in
devastating conditions leading to acts of violence. Kinkel, a fifteen year old boy, demonstrates his partaking in the
unnecessary murders of both his parents and innocent bystanders. Kinkel is said to have shown signs of his
intentions through inconspicuous matters. Later holding the guilt of four deaths and twenty six attempts via semi

a trial the young boy capable of murder. Kinkel is convicted of the absolute minimal sentence for the nature of his
crimes, followed by his seemly confession. The defense and prosecution contemplate proper arguments given the
defendants substantial witnesses to the crimes and articles of law. Justice is debated among the courts and how to

decision to deny the appeal because the original sentence was constitutional and just.
Summary of The Court document

Honore De Balzac And The Napoleonic Period
An unsure Pope Pius VII, not wanting to place a crown on the head of the soon to be Emperor of France in the
extravagant Notre Dame Cathedral of Paris, who then takes matters into his own hand and places the crown on his
own head (Selin Par. 1, 2, 13). This is the situation of Napoleon Bonaparte. After overthrowing the Directory in
1799, Napoleon worked to satisfy the needs of the people and recreate and better the French empire by ratifying
reforms, such as the Napoleonic Code (Ligard Par. 2). This reform, and other aspects of French culture, helped
shape the work of the renowned French novelist, Honore de Balzac. Therefore, France s culture during the years
1800 to 1814 were shaped by its monarchy while the literature of Honore de Balzac evinces its cultural connection.
From the years 1804 to 1814, also referred to as the Napoleonic Age, France became an empire, ruled by its first
emperor, Napoleon Bonaparte. When Bonaparte became emperor in 1804, it was because the Senate who had all
been chosen by Napoleon passed a law making him Emperor of the French (Wilde Par. 6). If it were not for the
people he put in Senate, Napoleon would not have become emperor because citizens were already beginning to
disapprove the changes he was making to their government. Since he is able to chose men who will support him and
follow his commands in Senate, it reveals how much power Bonaparte really holds in his empire. Bonaparte

Heroism In Jackie Robinson
He was bombarded with death threats for who he was. He was punched so hard he was left with a bloody seven
inch gash on the side of his face. Even his teammates did not want to be associated with him anymore. Through this
unbearable torture, he still did not shed a single tear. This story belongs to Jackie Robinson, a home run hero.Jackie
Robinson, number forty two, is looked back on as a hero that was an immense part of baseball;Robinson was
known for the incredible heroism he showed in baseball and in his community through his fifty three years of life.
Using information from, What is Heroism, and, How Jackie Robinson Changed Baseball, The reader learns that
Jackie Robinson s heroism is shown from his fight against the social norms of an era filled with discrimination, his
courage when people tried to hurt him spiritually and physically, and his personal and his professional sacrifices to
be part of baseball.
First of all, Jackie Robinson showed and proved his heroism for how he went against the social norms to be the first
African American to play in a previously all white sport;the courage required to break this barrier is an example of
social heroism. In What is Heroism? it states, Yet social heroism is costly in its own way, often involving loss of
credibility or financial stability, lower social status, arrest, torture, risks to family, and, in some cases, death. This
statement rings true to Jackie Robinson because, when Jackie went against the strict views of racist baseball players
and fans, he risked everything that the evidence stated! In the text, How Jackie Robinson Changed Baseball, the
hero broke the color barrier by joining Major League Baseball, a professional sport. This hero defied discrimination
at a time when people of color were not allowed to play baseball. He did not accept the racist idea of what a
professional baseball player should look like cause he just wanted to be a part of baseball.
Another way Jackie Robinson validates and shows his heroism is by having a significant amount of courage when
many people were against him because of segregation. In the text, What is Heroism the author defines courage as,

Perennial Wisdom Healing Grace For Personal And...
Shamanism Today: Perennial Wisdom Healing Grace for Personal Planetary Evolution.
By Oscar Miro Quesada, M.A., Psy. ET.
Today s shaman leaves new footprints on paths of psychic awareness and spiritual wisdom that are over thirty
thousand years old. Shamanism is a millennial tradition of healing, power and wisdom that sees all of life as
interconnected and sacred. Material and spiritual worlds interpenetrate one another, and the shaman s path lies in
attaining a life of harmony with both. The process of shamanic awakening is as vast as the universe itself. It
excludes no one, and yet includes only those willing to surrender a limited sense of self. One must live it to
understand it.
In the shamanic world view, mind and body are inseparable. There is no distinction perceived between physical,
psychological, spiritual an social ills. Even life an death are not seen as separate conditions. Healing in a native
sense means making a person whole by restoring the health of the body, mind, spirit and community. Tribal
shamanic societies believe that we are part of the universe and must be in balance with all of Mother Earth and
Father Sky in gratitude to Great Spirit. The have much to teach us today.
Twelve Core Principles
The magic and power of shamanism is grounded in a set of values and perceptions that extend beyond what we
usually consider reality. Shamanic tradition clearly understands that two worlds exist: the Seen and the Unseen.

current and historic unequal power relations between women and men whereby women are systematically
disadvantaged and oppressed (2). Sansa becoming the queen of the North, would in a sense put her in a standing
equal to those of men (or even higher than some). The only obstacle that stand in the way of Sansa, is her sadistic
husband, Ramsay Bolton, who has taken her over her home and recently took her younger brother hostage. Ramsay
Bolton is the epitome of the patriarchy, he is the warden (ruler) of the North and was the one that raped Sansa.
Ramsay sees humans as toys and brutally tortures and subsequently flays them. Sansa s decision to stand up against
Ramsay shows her strength: instead of remaining a rape victim, Sansa decides to take action. In a world filled with
men in power, Sansa no longer see herself as subservient object as she did in the previous seasons. Sansa is ready to
take on the patriarchy and assert herself to ultimately play the game of

The Culver City City Council Meeting Essays
On Monday, April 13th, 2009, I visited the Culver City city council meeting, and found that they operate using a
council manager form of government. For a city with a population of about 38,000, this type of governmental
structure is fairly common, and I was not surprised to see it in action in a community where the median household
income is around $56,000 a year. Culver City is also a culturally rich community with a 60 percent Caucasian
population, and a quarter of the residents are either of African American or Asian decent. The mayor, D. Scott
Malsin, is one of five members on the council, and his term as mayor is on a rotating basis. Having been to a
Hermosa Beach city council meeting with a similar council manager structure, I knew ... Show more content on

Some folks even went up to talk about how great a job the city had been doing with the removal of graffiti or how
the new skate park fence was a brilliant idea. Once everyone who wished to speak had a say, it was time to talk go
through the consent calendar. A few of the consents were easily passed with unanimous consent, but one council
member, Christopher Armenta, and the vice mayor, Gary Silbiger, had issues with C 5. On the calendar, this agenda
item reads as the following, Approval of Professional Services Agreements with Associated Soils Engineering, Inc.,
Geo Environmental, Inc., and Zeiser Kling Consultants for Geotechnical Engineering and Construction Services.
Councilman Armenta was worried that the council would not have any oversight over the process of awarding
geotechnical service agreements to particular firms, and that the amounts given to a particular firm could wind up
being an exorbitant amount of money. Vice mayor Silbiger had similar fears. Silbiger suggested that instead of
contracting out a consultant, he wondered if there could be a permanent consulting position, but the city manager
disagreed because the city needs to bring in all sorts of consultants with varying expertise. The city manager noted
that one consultant with limited range would have little to do much of the time, and the consultant would waste the
fiscal budget of the city. The mayor and the other councilmen tried to soothe Armenta and

How to Write a Lab Report in Microbiology
HOW TO WRITE AN UNKNOWN LAB REPORT IN MICROBIOLOGY GENERAL Unknown reports in
microbiology are written in scientific format. Scientific writing is written differently from other types of writing.
The results of the exercise or experiment are what are being showcased, not the writing. The purpose of scientific
writing is not to entertain, but to inform. The writing should be simple and easy to understand. There is a specific
style that must be followed when writing scientific reports. Scientific writing is typically written in the passive
voice. The pronouns I , We and They are not typically used.. For example, instead of writing I used a TSA agar
plate to isolate my unknown, it is customary to write, A trypticase ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Note all of these tests were performed by the methods listed in the lab manual by De Mers (1). Table 1 lists the test,
purpose, reagents and results. All of the following tests were performed on this unknown: 1. Oxidase test 2. BCP
Lactose 3. Indole 4. H2S 5. Citrate 6. Motility 7. Methyl Red 8. Urea Another way is to write out the methods in
detail in either a paragraph form or listed. This way is not necessary for this type of paper, since this is lab report for
the identification of an unknown bacterium and the methods are explained in detail in the lab manual. If there is a
procedure that the instructor added or made changes to, or the student used another procedure not in the course lab
manual, then it should be written out and referenced. See some of the examples of papers identifying an unknown
from the web sited below. RESULTS This is where the results are summarized. The method results should be in a
table format (see examples below). This is also where the flow chart showing how you arrived at the answer is
stated. A short paragraph explaining how the results are presented can be included. Example: Unknown G had the
following morphology on a TSA plate: medium sized opaque cream colored colony. After determining that it was a
Gram negative rod, an oxidase test was performed and it was inoculated into a BCP lactose tube

The Theory Of Foreign Policy Changes
In Painful Choices, David Welch is entirely focused on developing a theory of when and why foreign policy
changes. Welch is also interested in a way to forecast these changes. His assembled theory, which I will evaluate in
greater depth, is termed the Loss Aversion Theory of Foreign Policy Change . This Theory entails three hypotheses
on the conditions under which we can expect and, more importantly, predict changes in foreign policy. Although
Welch remains humble regarding his Theory s drawbacks and predictive capabilities, there are some potentially
problematic assumptions at the foundation of Loss Aversion Theory. I will discuss why Welch s Theory is primarily
useful solely at the Individual Level. Finally, I intend to discuss why the Theory is not a comprehensive theory of
foreign policy and why the assumptions required for the Theory to hold limit the cases that can be explained by it.
After finding numerous theoretical and practical difficulties in the attempts thus far to draft of a theory of state
behavior, Welch proposes that [a] possible way out of [these difficulties] is to seek to base predictions not on
explanations of why states behave the way they do in general... but on explanations of why they deviate from their
prior behavior. Looking only at the changes in state behavior is a radical approach; it is a perspective from which
what [states] do in general is irrelevant. 2 Temporarily ignoring state goals, Welch turns his attention to how states

Preventing Sperm From Entering The Uterus
II. Barrier methods:
These methods are designed to prevent sperm from entering the uterus. Barrier methods are removable and may be
an option for female who cannot utilize hormonal methods of contraception. Types of barrier methods include:
1 Male condom:
The condom consists of a thin sheath placed over the glans and the shaft of the penis that is applied before any
vaginal insertion. It is one of the most popular mechanical barriers. Among all of the barrier methods, the condom
offers the most effective protection of the genital tract against STDs. Its use has increased from 13.2 18.9%
amongst all females of reproductive age due to the disquiet regarding the acquisition of HIV and STDs. It prevents
pregnancy by preventing the passage of semen into the vagina. Figure (1): Male condom
In November 2013, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) stated policy for improving the utilization of
condoms amongst adolescents.
These recommendations include the following:
Encouraged adolescents to abstain from sexual intercourse or delay future sexual relationships
Pediatricians should particibate in educating adolescents and their parents about responsible sexual activity and
encouraging the correct utilization of condoms among adolescents who are sexually active.
Health education programs for K 12 children should provide education and counseling about sexual behaviour and
be integrated into cooperative, community based

Birds can can carry and spread germs to people. Some species may carry Salmonella or Chlamydia psittaci. It is unlikely to get sick from dogs and cats however, they may still be a health risk due to germs they may carry. These germs may result in a bacterial disease if not dealt with properly. Fish, amphibians, and reptiles all put you at risk for Salmonella (Weber, 2005). With all these infections and diseases lingering on pets, young children and people with decrease immune systems are in danger. Also if pets aren t cleaned after and groomed properly this could increase the risk. In the United States, over 350,000 people are treated for bites every year and it is mostly children that are affected (Esposito, Picciolli, Semino, Principi, 2013). Children are not aware when they are provoking these pets. The pets are not aware of age differences meaning they don t know children don t know any better. Of all animal bites, dog bites account for over two thirds and cat bites account for around 3 15% (Esposito, Picciolli, Semino, Principi, 2013). These bites, if not treated correctly, usually lead to infection. Cat bites are more likely to result in an infection because they have sharper teeth which means deeper wounds. The first inhabitants of Mississippi were the Native Americans; the three main tribes were the Chickasaw Indians who settled in the north and eastern parts of the state, the Choctaw Indians who lived in the middle part of the state, and the Natchez Indians who occupied the southwest region of the state. Many present day cities in Mississippi get their names from these early tribes. Hernando De Soto was the first European to explore the state. He was from Spain and came in search of gold. When he did not find great riches in gold, De Soto moved on to explore other regions of North America. Next came the French explorer, Robert Cavalier who claimed the entire Mississippi Valley for France in 1682. The first French settlement was started in Biloxi which today is called Ocean ... With the election of Abraham Lincoln, slavery was abolished. Many Civil War battles were fought in Mississippi. The most notable was the Battle of Vicksburg where Union and Confederate forces fought for 47 straight days. Much of Mississippi lay in ruins after the war and had to be rebuilt. The lumber industry flourished during this period of reconstruction. The Great Depression was a very hard time for Mississippians. Many farmers lost their land between 1929 and 1930. Cotton prices fell dramatically and many people were living in poverty. Every lawyer, not wanting their reputations to be diminished, because they would be siding with the British soldiers, they enlist the help of John Adams. Who is a stout supporter for the law, justice, and innocence, he accepts the case; even though he and his family may become endangered. The trial began on October 24, 1770. Going into the trial Adams realized that it would be an uphill battle, faced with a Bostonian jury and the threats and badgering against anyone who would be a witness. Adams has to convince the jury that Captain Preston did not order his men to fire, and were attacked by the crowd, while also proving that the crowd was a mob rather than a lawful assembly. Turnover Rate in Corrections The Nation Wide Dilemma in Corrections CJ 2500: CORRECTIONS Professor November 04, 2012 Running Head: Turnover Rate in Corrections Abstract Throughout the years, there has been one major dilemma that continues to hassle the administration whose sole purpose is to provide institutional sanctions, treatment programs, and services for managing criminal offenders. This dilemma is the high turnover rate of the Corrections Officers, whom agencies nation wide are losing at an extremely high rate. Officers are being ordered in on their off days or holidays, forced to work mandatory overtime, a higher inmate to Correctional Officer ratio, as well as experienced Officers having to work with an extensive amount of rookie or inexperienced Correctional Officers. This combining of experienced officers with new hires, who have not received any type of prior training, raises the stress level during dangerous interactions with inmates, as well lowering the morale of the Officers who remain and attempt to complete their careers with a specific agency. This may be due to long term employees realizing that many of the new hires are using their time as a Correctional Officer to gain experience, or as a stepping stone to eventually become a road or patrol Officer, which may involve more experienced Officers not spending the time necessary to assist, or provide On the job training to the new hires. Additional causes of stress may include the threat of inmate violence, actual inmate violence, inmate demands and manipulations, problems with co workers, as well as having a poor public image. For example, Between 1990 and 1995, the number of attacks on correctional officers in State and Federal prisons jumped by nearly one third, from 10,731 to 14,165 (Lommel, 2004). • 8. Analysis Of Fun Home By Alison Bechdel Alison Bechdel, a literary and queer theorist herself who would go on to coin the Bechdel test, grew up in close proximity to theory. In a family of academics, with her teacher father and former actress mother, Bechdel was always surrounded by literature, so when it comes to self discovery of her sexuality, it s no surprise that she turns to the literary realm, from Rubyfruit Jungle to the Oxford English Dictionary, to understand herself. Bechdel s first graphic memoir, Fun Home, examines her upbringing in a funeral home with her cold mother and her closeted bisexual father, who commits suicide soon after Bechdel leaves for college. It engages in frequent literary and theory illusions, beginning from the mention of Icarian Games on the very first page. While Bechdel s work seems like it could be easily situated in structuralist theory, the work easily lends itself to a multiplicity of meanings, an inherent feature of deconstruction work that allows readers to veer into feminist theory, queer theory, or even Marxist theory. Just as Bechdel rewrites and reframes the events of her formative years multiple times throughout the novel, the novel particularly lends itself to structuralist, deconstruction, queer, and feminist theory, which all lead to particularly illuminating readings that compliment each other. Fun Home perhaps most glaringly fits into the literary theory of structuralism, and its application becomes easy as soon Bechdel introduces the readers to her father s constant rebuilding of their home on page 5. One of structuralism s main tenants is understanding the world as discursively constructed, meaning that there is no inherent essence or nature that informs one s production, whether that be behavior or presentation or style, and that one then understands the world through binary opposition and discourse (Parker 77 81). Bechdel s father produces a perfected period piece facade for the Bechdel home, which simultaneously indulged his obsessive love for home decor, an interest usually only allowed for homosexual men, while providing the facade of an idealized happy homeplace. Analyzing the home s surface structure would prove unfruitful for conveying any of the internalized conflict of the family, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

THE GREAT FIRE OF LONDON OF 1666 THE GREAT FIRE OF LONDON OF 1666 The Great Fire of London of 1666 that was started by Thomas Farrinor s bakery caused the destruction of 80 percent of London and led to the creation of insurance and firefighting companies. The fire marked a time of rebirth for the British capital since the city had to rebuild entirely. The fire was quite an interesting event owing the fact that it caused such an extreme amount of destruction and took the lives of only six people. The family begged their maid to follow them but she was more afraid of heights than the fire. She stayed in the house and was the first person to die in the Great Fire. The family, however, continued across rooftops until they were safe from the fire (Shields 81). Subsequently, the flames were halfway across London Bridge soon after the fire was started. Two groups of buildings, separated by a clearance, sat on London Bridge (Alagna 19). Pieces of the burning buildings fell into the river causing the water to turn into smoke and steam (Hanson 53). The sights and sounds of the London Bridge burning and falling in the water, created a dark perception for onlookers. The previously mentioned clearance in the London Bridge was a successful firebreak in an earlier fire, and it was successful again in the Great Fire. Introduction Alcohol consumption amongst youth is not a new issue New Zealand has a long standing history of alcohol consumption both good and bad. In New Zealand, as is also around the world, the consumption of alcohol has baggage both good and bad. It is seen on a positive note as a social enabler, it allows oneself to let their guard down a bit and feel at ease in situations out of their normal comfort zones, however to every story there is also a flip side, and this is the idea that alcohol consumption is the cause of social harm. These views are also reflected in the thoughts of many New Zealander s today. An online article, Contrary to belief, we may be losing binge from our drinking culture (2012) highlights the disparities of views between those who are 50 years or older, and those I deem part of the youth of New Zealand who are 30 years or younger. The views show that the older group believe that New Zealanders, especially the younger demographic have a problem with alcohol consumption, however, those in the younger group acknowledged that as a society New Zealanders drink excessively, many argued that we (New Zealand) was no different to any other country in regards to alcohol consumption. Perhaps the most interesting fact about these acts is that they were performed by everyday farmers, traders, and businessmen. The reasons for these acts were, more than likely, out of the will to survive, but there may a greater story behind such acts of monstrosity. The question if incest is right or wrong is never brought up by the villagers in the novel because if it was the author wouldn t be able to tell a tale of One Hundred Years of Solitude . Solitude would be broken if the outsiders saw incest as something else rather than normal. Incest the first sin and the last, it is what started the book and what had also ended it. Without it there would be no story and there would be no Buendia family. It would ve changed into something else over the five generations. The story was told in a circle, what had happened in the beginning would foreshadow the ending. A pig s tail to a pig s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. Atchafalaya River Basin Analysis The Atchafalaya River Basin is full of history. From the Choctaws, to the original Cajuns and even to its present day society, the Atchafalaya is not just a distributary of the Mississippi. More can be uncovered the deeper you dive into this river s past, or in this case, its waters! Prior to the year 1401, the Mississippi River and the Red River were unassociated with one another and ran in almost parallel directions. After the start of the 15th century, the Mississippi began heading west making Turnbull s Bend and intersecting with the Red River. This westward loop, after being connected to both rivers, became a distributary of the Mississippi River (Micah Bennett, 2013). Introduction Telecommunications is the electronic transmission of signals used for communication sent via means of telephone, radio, and television. The importance of telecommunication in business is that it removes delays created by time and distance. With the proper setup it is possible for a company to communicate with any business and affiliates quickly just about anywhere in the world. To fully understand telecommunications it is important to understand the characteristics of telecommunication, network types, and the medium used in telecommunications. 2. Abstract Basic telecommunication characteristics are the medium that carries transmitted messages from point A to point B . There is the simplex channel which is a communications channel that transmits data in one direction only, this particular channel is not advantages for business due to its one way nature. There is the half duplex channel which can move that data to multiple locations, however it cannot move them all at the same time, in a company where speed is needed this may not be the best. Then there is the full duplex channel which is similar to having two simplex channels, this one permits data to go both ways and multiple flows to move at the same time. A fourth option is broadband, which is communication channel bandwidth, and in general broadband simply means that it can move data and information at high speeds, in recent times the larger the business the more bandwidth is needed to keep ... The objective of this project is to design and created a device that can process the output of a guitar pickup and automatically tune the guitar to the desired overall tuning. The core principles of the projects would be a device that is built exclusively for tuning a guitar. The device developed from the current project should be both gentle and durable. When the user strums all six strings together, the vibrations are detected by a piezoelectric sensor which utilizes an algorithm to determine each strings fundamental frequency. The tuning peg is then turned by a servo, which is controlled by a microcontroller, to adjust the tension until the desert are detected by a piezoelectric sensor which utilizes an algorithm to determine each strings fundamental frequency. Since our turning device developed from this project should be compatible with all types of electric guitar, my specific contributions to the project deals with system design, experimental analysis and problem solving. I come up with the hardware design. Like we said before, there are other devices out there such as Tropical Tune s Self Tuning system, so the signal processing part of our design has proven durable. The problem we encounter the most is the one deals with actual hardware, in this case the displacement of six tuning pegs of the different kind of guitars. The copper wire design that allows for multiple string tuning and is lightweight, which makes this a convenient, easy to carry tuning device. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is the situation of Napoleon Bonaparte. After overthrowing the Directory in 1799, Napoleon worked to satisfy the needs of the people and recreate and better the French empire by ratifying reforms, such as the Napoleonic Code (Ligard Par. 2). This reform, and other aspects of French culture, helped shape the work of the renowned French novelist, Honore de Balzac. Therefore, France s culture during the years 1800 to 1814 were shaped by its monarchy while the literature of Honore de Balzac evinces its cultural connection. From the years 1804 to 1814, also referred to as the Napoleonic Age, France became an empire, ruled by its first emperor, Napoleon Bonaparte. When Bonaparte became emperor in 1804, it was because the Senate who had all been chosen by Napoleon passed a law making him Emperor of the French (Wilde Par. 6). If it were not for the people he put in Senate, Napoleon would not have become emperor because citizens were already beginning to disapprove the changes he was making to their government. Even his teammates did not want to be associated with him anymore. Through this unbearable torture, he still did not shed a single tear. This story belongs to Jackie Robinson, a home run hero.Jackie Robinson, number forty two, is looked back on as a hero that was an immense part of baseball;Robinson was known for the incredible heroism he showed in baseball and in his community through his fifty three years of life. Using information from, What is Heroism, and, How Jackie Robinson Changed Baseball, The reader learns that Jackie Robinson s heroism is shown from his fight against the social norms of an era filled with discrimination, his courage when people tried to hurt him spiritually and physically, and his personal and his professional sacrifices to be part of baseball. First of all, Jackie Robinson showed and proved his heroism for how he went against the social norms to be the first African American to play in a previously all white sport;the courage required to break this barrier is an example of social heroism. In What is Heroism? it states, Yet social heroism is costly in its own way, often involving loss of credibility or financial stability, lower social status, arrest, torture, risks to family, and, in some cases, death. This statement rings true to Jackie Robinson because, when Jackie went against the strict views of racist baseball players and fans, he risked everything that the evidence stated! In the text, How Jackie Robinson Changed Baseball, the hero broke the color barrier by joining Major League Baseball, a professional sport. This hero defied discrimination at a time when people of color were not allowed to play baseball. He did not accept the racist idea of what a professional baseball player should look like cause he just wanted to be a part of baseball. Today s shaman leaves new footprints on paths of psychic awareness and spiritual wisdom that are over thirty thousand years old. Shamanism is a millennial tradition of healing, power and wisdom that sees all of life as interconnected and sacred. Material and spiritual worlds interpenetrate one another, and the shaman s path lies in attaining a life of harmony with both. The process of shamanic awakening is as vast as the universe itself. It excludes no one, and yet includes only those willing to surrender a limited sense of self. One must live it to understand it. In the shamanic world view, mind and body are inseparable. There is no distinction perceived between physical, psychological, spiritual an social ills. Even life an death are not seen as separate conditions. Healing in a native sense means making a person whole by restoring the health of the body, mind, spirit and community. The patriarchy in modern terms is characterised by current and historic unequal power relations between women and men whereby women are systematically disadvantaged and oppressed (2). Sansa becoming the queen of the North, would in a sense put her in a standing equal to those of men (or even higher than some). The only obstacle that stand in the way of Sansa, is her sadistic husband, Ramsay Bolton, who has taken her over her home and recently took her younger brother hostage. Ramsay Bolton is the epitome of the patriarchy, he is the warden (ruler) of the North and was the one that raped Sansa. Ramsay sees humans as toys and brutally tortures and subsequently flays them. • 43. The Theory Of Foreign Policy Changes In Painful Choices, David Welch is entirely focused on developing a theory of when and why foreign policy changes. Welch is also interested in a way to forecast these changes. His assembled theory, which I will evaluate in greater depth, is termed the Loss Aversion Theory of Foreign Policy Change . This Theory entails three hypotheses on the conditions under which we can expect and, more importantly, predict changes in foreign policy. Although Welch remains humble regarding his Theory s drawbacks and predictive capabilities, there are some potentially problematic assumptions at the foundation of Loss Aversion Theory. I will discuss why Welch s Theory is primarily useful solely at the Individual Level. Finally, I intend to discuss why the Theory is not a comprehensive theory of foreign policy and why the assumptions required for the Theory to hold limit the cases that can be explained by it. After finding numerous theoretical and practical difficulties in the attempts thus far to draft of a theory of state behavior, Welch proposes that [a] possible way out of [these difficulties] is to seek to base predictions not on explanations of why states behave the way they do in general... but on explanations of why they deviate from their prior behavior. Looking only at the changes in state behavior is a radical approach; it is a perspective from which what [states] do in general is irrelevant. 2 Temporarily ignoring state goals, Welch turns his attention to how states ...
