Slope Index Of Inequality
Education
People who are educated are likely to seek health care in order to have good health. According to Ross
and Wu, people who are educated are less likely to smoke and drink, more likely to be physically
active, and get regular health check ups (1995, p. 719). The article claims education is measured by
surveying students and determining which grade level they are in. Education can also be measured by
the highest degree or diploma obtained for those who have left school (Garcia McCarthy, p. 42).
Measuring education using this method provides researchers with information regarding how many
years of schooling people have received. This measurement is also seen in the study of Schneider.
According to Schneider, the highest level of education successfully completed is either indicated by
the highest educational qualification achieved or by the number of years of education or schooling
completed (2011, p. 2). The information is obtained from surveys completed by respondents. This
measure however, does ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are various ways to measure socioeconomic and health inequalities but in the article, the two
methods that present an accurate picture of the inequalities are the slope index of inequality and the
concentration index. They provide a measurement based on their socioeconomic status and not on
their health (Garcia McCarthy 2012, p. 44). The article mentions an international comparison of
socioeconomic differences in health. Most countries used education as means of measurement while
other countries used occupation or income. Countries who used education and income data were able
to comparisons between countries. According to Munoz Arroyo and Sutton, the slope index of
inequality shows the relation of health in a socioeconomic category and the ranking of socioeconomic
category on the social scale (2007, p.

In What ways is Sexuality portrayed as central to the conflicts of the individual v society in Ken
Kesey s One flew over the cuckoo s nest and Tennessee Williams A street car named desire ?
The capacity of sexual feelings within the individual is central to both the development and
fundamental basis of any significant character. As observed in both One flew over the cuckoos nest
(AKA

used in defining a character to the audience. By ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their appearances can consequently be said to be greatly symbolic of their role within the narrative.
The use of colour is also symbolic of character sexuality Red hots!! or face and neck the colour of

McMurphy and Stanley, whereas the colours ivory [5] and pale blue [6] are used in describing the
weaker characters that deny sexuality. The individuals role within the narrative is dependant on the
conflict that arises, in these texts, due to variations within their own sexuality and society s subsequent
reactions. Sexual imagery also surrounds the characters; McMurphey and Stanley further giving, once

way as the physical descriptions previously. Sexuality being established in a variety of ways to then

Theory of Demographic Transition Essay
The Theory of Demographic Transition
Demography is the study of the components of population variation and change. Death rate and birth
rate are two determinants of population change. Theory of Demographic Transition is comparatively
recent theory that has been accepted by several scholars throughout the world. This theory embraces
the observation that all countries in the world go through different stages in the growth of population.
A nation s economy and level of development is directly related to that nation s birth and death rates.
Population history can be divided into different stages. Some of the scholars have divided it into three
and some scholars have divided it into five stages. These stages or classifications demonstrate a ...

But the death rate exceeds the birth rate, which triggers the population increasing very slowly or
almost stable. In this stage, birth rate becomes high due to less use of contraception and sterilization.
Most of the people do survive in agriculture where the children are considered as economic assets and
so people are encouraged to get many children. Similarly death rate becomes high due to diseases,
natural calamities, wars, etc. Infant death rate is also found very high. Because of poor health facilities
provided by the state to the people, lack of clean water and sanitation and food shortage, health of the
people will be weak so that the people will depart the life in high numbers. Before 1920, China and
India were at this stage (Raj, H. 2003). This stage is generally found in the countries where people
depend on agriculture as a main source of surviving. At present, the countries like Nigeria, Ethiopia,
Tanzania, Angola, etc. are passing through this stage (Raj, H.2003)
The Early Expanding Stage:
This is the second stage of the Theory of Demographic Transition. In this stage, birth rate does not
come down from the High Stationary Stage but death rate gets very much declined, which triggers
very rapid growth in the population change. In this stage, the nation provides the better public health
services to the people so that the people will not depart from the life so rapidly, and the declining in

Information Processing Model Of Memory
(1) In your own words, describe the three major components of the Information Processing Model of
memory: Sensory Memory, Short term Memory, and Long term Memory.
The three major components of the Information Processing Model of memory work, in a way, as a
system. First, when sensory information from your sensory system gets encoded, it is considered
sensory memory; lasting about a second. The sensory information is then converted into short term
memory if and only if the individual is paying attention; lasting about as long as attention is held. If
the information is repeated/thought about enough, it will become long term memory; basically etching
itself across your cerebral cortex. That isn t to say that all long term memories are stored

Osteoporosis And Treatment Of Osteoporosis Essay
Osteoporosis is one of the most prevalent bone diseases worldwide (Mulcahy, et al.). It is
characterised as a disease which leads to the loss of bone mass due to bone deterioration, therefore
leading to bones becoming more brittle and fragile (U.S. Department of Health and Human services,
2004). Physiologically, bone is constantly re modelled by concerted and coordinated interactions
between osteoclasts, type of cells that are involved in resorption of the bones, and osteoblasts, which
ensure bone formation and mineralization. Osteoporosis results from an imbalance between bone
deposition and resorption (Castiglioni, et al., 2013)
Osteoporosis affects millions of people worldwide, but the groups that are at highest risks include
elderly and post menopausal women (International Osteoporosis Foundation, 2015). As osteoporosis is
associated with aging, it becomes a major health concern as the aging population will double over the
next decade (Age UK, 2016). Due to that fact, there has been an increase in an interest in development
of the preventive strategies for decreasing the incidence of osteoporosis. One of most important
strategies is dietary intervention, as there are nutritious factors that play a key role in formation and
development of the bones. Majority of the previous studies were concentrated on relationship between
calcium, vitamin D and density of the bones. But recent studies have mentioned the importance of
Magnesium, chemical element which plays a key role in

Research Question To what extent will Bitcoin be a viable alternative to traditional methods of
remittance to Karnataka? Word Count 2500 India currently has the highest amount of remittances in

by a new, possibly better means of remittance which through Bitcoin. Bitcoin is the world s first
decentralized digital currency launched in 2009 as open source software (The Economist , 2013). It is
a peer to peer network and transactions do not go through a bank which gives many advantages over
fiat money. The fees are much lower, you can use them in any country, and your account cannot be
frozen. To send Bitcoins from one digital wallet to another no matter where each wallet is located, is a
fast process with an optional miniscule fee. The larger fee you put, the faster the transaction will be
processed. You do not need to give any personal information to anyone to send the money and
therefore in this sense it is anonymous. When you download and open the digital wallet, it will
generate an address, similar to an email address. With the digital wallet you can easily send and
receive an amount of Bitcoins from one address to another, just as you would with sending and receive

An Organization Can Improve The Quality Of The Business...
An organisation can help improve the quality of the business information by ensuring that the
information is valid as it will be precise. It s dependable information that is used by organisations to
maximise their profits. Many companies need valid info since it helps them to make the best business
decisions; other companies look for this in organisation for instance, if they want to be partnered or
work with them then they want to work with someone with useable information. If the business doesn
t have correct information that is valid then they could be put in trouble or even become unemployed
or lose their business as every business should have valid data that is not made up.

Companies need reliable information that can be used by others to make profit, to become an excellent
business; just to make correct decisions so they can use it to progress quality of business information.
If company doesn t have reliable info then it can t be used and it won t help make accurate judgments.
For in case, if they don t have correct information in the business then they can get in trouble and the
person can also lose the job as they re ruining the business reputation which is no benefit to the
company. Another example would be the finance section obtaining the information from the sales
sections in a business would be trustable to use as it s an internal source that is checked repeatedly to

Timely Up to date:
Organisations can improve the quality of their business information by ensuring there data is up to

constant information so this is available any time when needed. In addition, if the bank needs

information from the exact year. For e.g. if in the business the sales department needs information on
the deliveries in past 3 years then the delivery department needs to supply them with the exact

The Application Of Qr Code
Introduction
The development of QR Code has resulted in a revolutionary change in the marketing management
practices. QR code has made it easier for the marketing professionals to sale services by virtually
representing the usage, benefits and drawbacks of the service to the clients (Chitty, Hughes and D
Alessandro, 2012). The paper has been developed to discuss the potential application of QR Code in
service marketing and discuss several factors using various marketing theories and principles. Finally,
the paper discusses the future development of interactive content and information to support service
operations and customer satisfaction.

By using the services theory of culture, QR codes can evolve the commercial performance as
customers will freely identify and access the information related to services (Sang Ryu and Murdock,
2013). For instance, in the healthcare sector, consumers can scan the QR code to identify the services
terns, cost of services, facilities available etc without wasting valuable time. Meanwhile, by using QR
codes marketing of services will become more instrumental, to say the least. By influencing the
marketing culture, QR codes can set up a paradigm that can be utilised by the target demographics to
satisfy their knowledge (Kulkarni and Malagi, 2016).
Alternatively, in the financial services, customers do not need to wait for assistance to compare the
services of other financial firms. By quickly scanning the QR code in an advertisement published in a
newspaper or online, customers can gather detailed knowledge and information about the services and
position of the firm in the market. Thus, consumers can easily select the best services of the firm
without delaying the procedure (Shin and Lee, 2014). Conclusively, QR codes will add a new
dimension in the services sector marketing leading to sustainable marketing.
Question 3
As shown in the case study, QR codes can bypass multiple layers of distribution leading towards
effective marketing of services and products, the advantages of the

Focus Child Observation
The methods used to collect data for this focus study include both five observations of the focus child
during play and notes from an informal conversation with the focus child s mother. These methods
were used in conjunction with one another as they compliment each other within research. This is
because a particular strength of observations lies in the researcher being able to clearly see and
identify what the child is doing instead of gaining this information from the child or parent which
could be open to interpretation or other modifiers (McDevitt, Ellis Ormrod, Cupid, Chandler, Aloa,
2013). Utilising the informal conversation in conjunction with the observations ensured that I could
still obtain the mothers perspective on her child and was useful as a confirmation of my research
question after my initial observations lead me to focus on the general area of C.W s physical
development and play. Deciding to only use anecdotal observations stemmed from McDevitt et al.
(2013) that the kind of observations we conduct depend on what we hope to gain from watching and
listening to children (50) and as the research focus question centres on helping to identify individual
needs (51) much the same as anecdotal observations I decided they would be the most appropriate
research method.
In my initial observations (refer to Appendix Observation 1 2 for details) I noticed that C.W had a
particular interest in physical play and mostly chose to interact with others during these

Multicultural Theories In Social Work
Studying of human behavior has never been easier, and as the population increases, their actions
become complicated. As a result, social worker as a professional has different theories that guide them
in the process of assessing, evaluating and intervening at various levels in the society (Jayapalan,
2014). In fact, most of these theories usually focus on the study of aspects that make humans different,
and an example of the focus include human growth and their development, psychological aspect,
social functioning as well as service delivery. However, some theories just highlight social and
economic equality. Also, almost all of the theories in social work practice are usually come out of
social and historical context, and there should, therefore, be critiqued because of their multicultural
applicability. With the aim of understanding persons and their environment, as well as the processes of
assessment, intervention, and evaluation, system theory perspective used. System theory includes
ecological systems, and it typically focuses on how different individuals interact with others in their
environment (Turner, 2014). In fact, social workers use this theory in understanding different
individuals while in their constant transaction within their environment. For example, system theory
suggests that different systems and subsystems in the societies are interrelated parts. Also, the other
common concept of system theory states that each subsystem affects several other areas of

invented in World War Two. It was used as basic transportation for troops. After the war, the Jeep
became more popular and was then used as a production vehicle for the public. Tanks of World War
One were very primitive and very ineffective. In World War Two, the tank was one of the most
important vehicles used. Leading up to World War Two, tanks were made more powerful, faster,

the war were producing their own models of tanks. By the end of the war, the Allies had developed a

Introduction:
The management of municipal solid waste become one of the most crucial issues in many countries
due to rapid increase in population and economic growths. This essay will seek to critically evaluate
and review the waste generation and physical characteristics in Malaysia and also shows the current
management system of solid waste in this country based on published information. The major
problems and issues that Malaysia is facing with will be mentioned .Therefore, gives an overview of
the future in terms of quantities based on analyzing the data.

The rapid increase in population and solid generation cause this country to experience an evolution
and transition in the solid waste management. Some policies and legislation has been introduced in
Malaysia but is still week and needs to be improved. In comparison with its neighboring countries the
rate of recycling is at 5% which is very low (Aja Al Kayiem, 2013).
Solid waste generation and physical characteristics
The Malaysian population has been increasing annually due to urbanization and industrialization and
according to the WPR the population is near 30.2 million and more than 70% of this to be living in the
urban areas. . Moreover, there is a strong relationship between population growth and amount of waste
produced. In other words, as population increases, the amount of generated waste also rises (Johari,
Alkali, Hashim, Ahmed, 2014). Table 1 shows this relationship for years 2000 2003.
Manaf et al (2009) reported that the average amount of MSW generated vary in different parts of
Malaysia depending on the population and township size and also the level of economic standards. It
is in the range of 0.5 0.8 kg/cap/day, in rural areas and smaller towns while in major cities and also in
the capital, Kuala Lumpur, is approximately between 1.7 1.9 kg/cap/day. Table 2 mentions the real and

The Five Things I Have Learned
In this course, History 101 Western Civilization to 1689, the five things I have learned are: Homer s
life and writings; Aristotle, and his synthesis of early thinkers; Alexander the Great, and his legacy;
Julius Caesar, and his power; and finally, Martin Luther, and his influence. I feel that in this course I
learned more about people in history than I have ever learned before. These people I am discussing
have made tremendous impacts on the world and have allowed so much growth in western
civilization. The topics I have picked to discuss are the most important to me because they symbolize,
in my mind, eras, and the great changes of the world, mainly through mindset and belief. These five
topics show how people are needed to make changes, and to make history, and how the ideas that are
brought before these times have lasted the years. The first major thing that I learned was about Homer;
who he was and how his writings helped shape the Greek spirit and Greek religion (Perry, Chase and
Jacob). I feel that Homer, and his works, such as Iliad and The Odyssey , were very important because
they allowed a transformation in the views of an individual. Homer placed the individual as another
force of life that has the power to change events and determine their own lives, not just the gods, in his
works. Homer s view of the eternal order of the world and his conception of the individual striving for
excellence that brought honor and esteem form the foundations of the Greek

They have a couple things that really stand out, one being politics and another I noticed being the act
of defying a higher power. Creon defied a seer in his story. Creon goes and decides to defy Tiresias, a
very old seer. Tiresias is a seer which means they can predict the future and warn people about what is
to come for them if it is bad. Now Tiresias has been in this game for a long time, probably even dating
back farther than Creon s parents. Tiresias definitely knows what he s doing. Tiresias tells Creon of a
sight he had about Creon. It is very bad for Creon it is a sight telling of his whole family dying but
Creon doesn t want to believe it. Creon disgraces Tiresias and is very rude to him. Creon defies
Tiresias and gets his whole family killed in the process. Defying a higher power did not go so well for
Creon but for David it went pretty well. David defied the Adjustment Bureau. The Adjustment Bureau
is a Bureau of immortal people that have a plan for everyone s lives and are supposed to keep them on
track so they basically make your entire life. Although many things could happen to take your life off
track, but they re there to make sure your life stays on track. The Adjustment Bureau tells David not to

Tourism Policy And Planning For Tourism
Policy and planning directly related, despite being completely different types of processes, they both
confront the same issues, that being the overall future development of a destination. This essay reflects
on policy and planning in the tourism industry. Beginning with the purpose of tourism policy,
underlining why policy and planning is important, how it is utilized, and finally the benefits to tourism
development. Utilizing examples from Kenya, United Kingdom, New Zealand, and Croatia to further
illustrate why tourism policies and planning are necessary in destinations.
Policy is government involvement in the tourism industry, which develops a framework around long
term tourism development, as well as daily implications that impact a destination. The purpose of
which is to provide stakeholders a board framework of economic and social benefits, generally

The Discovery Of A New Science
The Discovery of a New Science
A Brief History
Physiology has piqued human curiosity for thousands of years. In the early centuries, examination and
dissection of the human body was a taboo practice and consequently became mired due to ethical or
religious concerns. Scientist had no choice but to undertake inconceivable acts, such as grave robbery
in the name of learning and educating. They carried out dissections in secrecy. Human physical and
mental health practices have greatly benefitted because of the discoveries made by these scientists
acts, once considered immoral.
The history of physiological psychology spans throughout centuries. Its origins are traceable back to
times before Christ. Several instances set the framework, which facilitated the development and
growth of physiology as one of the numerous subdivisions of psychology. There are three important
periods and several people that established this field. Contributors include Avicenna (980 1037B.C.),
Rene Descartes during the renaissance and several key contributors during the eighteenth and
nineteenth centuries. The breakthroughs in these periods developed a new science and led the way to
the creation of other related subdivisions of psychology. Physiological psychology is one among
several subdivisions of biological psychology. This branch of psychology is concerned with the
response of normal and pathological processes of the central nervous system (CNS). Physiological

Essay about Coal Mining and Its Impacts
Coal Mining and Its Impacts
Coal is a hard, black colored rock like substance. It is made up of carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, and
varying amount of sulphur. Coal was form as decomposition took place in the absence of oxygen and
much of the hydrogen content of the matter was eroded away, leaving a material rich in carbon. The
material was compressed over the years by sand and dirt, leaving the form of a carbon known as coal.
The different types of coals are Anthracite, bituminous, lignite, peat, coke, and charcoal. Coal is mined

Lung disease and accidents have always led to high rates of death or disability amongst miners. The

The Economic Effects Of The Housing Bubble Collapse
Between 2004 and 2006, the Federal Reserve decided to increase the interest rate at which it would
lend money to banks. The effects of this led to higher interest rates passed on to consumers by the
banks. Though this is only part of the issue, it contributed to the housing bubble collapse. The
economic effects of what occurred were not fully realized until August of 2008.When the housing
market crashed; it had tremendously adverse effects on the US as well as the World economy
(Bajaj). Why did raising interest so slightly affect so many people? The simple answer is that a lot of
people were living beyond their means. Banks and subprime lenders were lending money to people
who realistically could not pay the loans back. President Calvin Coolidge said, There is no dignity
quite so impressive, and no one independence quite so important, as living within your means .
First, we must address what it looks like to live within our means. A study conducted by CNN
reported that 76 percent of Americans live paycheck to paycheck (Johnson). On top of that, many do
not have sufficient savings to cover six months of expenses. According to Johnson s survey, people do
not have enough to save after all of their expenses. Here in lies the problem. If you do not have
enough money to meet pay for your expenses and save, you are spending too much. Catherine New

Before a participation process can be designed and implemented, one must determine if there is a
problem to begin with. I would argue the need for judgment links to tyranny. The person setting the
table for a potential process has control over how the problem is framed and if there is a problem to
begin with. Perhaps the public needs to be involved in even the planning process of the process itself?
Could this look like a group of stakeholders? If the goal is to create a horizontal, people controlled
system of decision making? A compromise that deals with the challenge articulated above is some
form of power devolution. It s not an invitation to have too many cooks in the kitchen ; rather
devolution promotes the decentralization of power and decision making. The creation of public action

In The Choice, the objective point of view is being used when Travis takes Gabby and his other four
friends on a boat ride to the middle of the lake. The camera is being placed alongside the boat so the
viewers can watch what the friends are undertaking. In some of the scene, we can see the whole boat
while Travis is driving and the rest of the friends are relaxing. The women are laying out on the front
end of the boat with their hair flying from the wind and the men are sitting near the back of the boat
talking to Travis and conversing. It would be most logical for this scene to be objective because then
we can see what is going on at once and still feel as if we there enjoying time with them in the sun and
feeling the fresh air from the boat ride. The objective point of view is mainly used the most throughout
the film.
In another particular scene, Gabby and Travis are having a candle lit, romantic supper together. The
camera is placed at the end of the table, angling up in a way so we can see the food, plates, silverware,
and cups sitting on the table. Gabby and Travis are sitting at the same physical level so the camera can
capture both of their faces while they are looking at each other. With the camera angling up it makes
us feel as if Gabby and Travis are even closer now as they were before because they are getting more
comfortable around each other. After their romantic supper, they both do dishes and proceed to start

Currently, there are only 576 beds, many of which are not accessible to many of the people who may

within Hillsboro County. Assessing the county population for a 4.31% growth in the over 65 age
group (which is a low estimate, due to the large 45 64 group within the county), and including an
additional facility for the Carter Village s 110 new assisted living program, the number of available
beds in 5 years appears to be 686, compared to a demand of 814. Although this facility appears to
assist this problem, there still is a need for 128 additional beds for long term care. Again, this is a low
estimate, due to the long term care facilities are not necessarily accessible to everyone in the county,
as Senior Living of Mifflenville is a private facility, and it does not appear to meet the needs of many
of the people who would require Nursing Home Care. This also accounts for 170 of the available beds
within the county, which indicates that there is a high need than the aforementioned estimate. To add
an additional 128 bed facility in the county could prove to meet a high need within the county. Due to
the high rate of growth within the Jasper area, in addition to the limited nursing home access there

A Discussion Of Keynesian Economics
One type of economic belief is called Keynesian economics. This belief or theory is in favor of total
spending in the economy. It also agrees with total spending output and inflation, prices of goods rising
consistently. This form of economics was developed in the 1930 s by a economist, John Maynard
Keynes, in hopes of gaining a better understanding of the Great Depression. Keynes was for more
government spending and lower taxes that would possibly pull the U.S. out of the depression.
Basically, this gave hope that America s government could get out of its low production time by

Before the depression when economics was at a low they would soon rise again in fluctuation. The
depression put an end t this because there was such a shortage of jobs. This made Keynes start to think
about how to help people and handle economy in a real crisis. The thought that life as people knew it
was never going to return causing a boom and bust system. Keynes suggestion about this was that
when the government was going good they should raise taxes and spend less money, and when they
were in a bust they should lower taxes to retain money to the people. Keynes did not just expect the
government to cycle money, but for the people to as well. He thought that unless you were putting
money back for the future that you should keep your money cycling in the economic system. One of
the biggest factors that had a part in Keynes style of economics was something called multiplier effect
(which is essentially banks making money from lending money). He was strong in the belief that if the
government spent and invested, then they would make more money. If people were willing to spend
their money as well then, the PD would eventually begin to

He was terminated from his job as a nursing assistant for testing positive for cocaine. He told his
Human Resources director that he is not a drug addict and only took the drug once, though this may or

French Influence On American Culture
I jumped and hastily removed my earbuds, startled by the man standing inches away. Suddenly he
spoke: Is that Stromae? I followed his gaze to my phone, where Ta fête, a song by Belgian Rwandan
rap sensation Stromae, was playing. The man in front of me, who I learned was a recent immigrant
from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), intimated excitedly that French was his first
language. I enthusiastically told him that I had been learning French for six years. Our shared
language had broken down the heavy silence.
Soon, we were discussing everything from unemployment in the DRC in the US, they don t fire me

The Role Of Leptin And Its Effects On The Reproductive...
Role of leptin in PCOS. Leptin is a hormone secreted mainly from the adipose tissue, serum levels of
which are influenced by obesity, insulin resistance and the levels of sex steroids (androgens and
estrogens) and insulin. It is mainly involved in the regulation of body weight by decreasing appetite
and increasing energy expenditure. Besides regulating the energy metabolism of the body, leptin has
important actions on the reproductive system, which makes it an important link between the adipose
tissue and hypothalamus pituitary gonadal (HPG) axis (2). Long term hyperinsulinemia in humans, as
is the case in PCOS patients, stimulates leptin secretion from adipose tissue (9). Significantly higher
leptin (P = 0.0028), and insulin concentrations, insulin: glucose ratio (IGR), and a significant
correlation between leptin and fasting insulin concentrations, IGR, WHR and LH have been reported
in obese PCOS women than in normal weight women with PCOS. There is a significant negative
correlation between leptin and LH concentrations, independently of either BMI or IGR, suggesting a
possible involvement of leptin in LH hypersecretion (10). Estrogens increase, whereas androgens
suppress leptin production, suggesting sexual dimorphism in leptin levels (2).
The direct and indirect effects of leptin on the HPG axis, such as acceleration of GnRH pulsatility (but
not the pulse amplitude) in a dose dependent manner, suggest that leptin may play an important role in
the pathogenesis of PCOS.

  • 2. Slope Index Of Inequality Education People who are educated are likely to seek health care in order to have good health. According to Ross and Wu, people who are educated are less likely to smoke and drink, more likely to be physically active, and get regular health check ups (1995, p. 719). The article claims education is measured by surveying students and determining which grade level they are in. Education can also be measured by the highest degree or diploma obtained for those who have left school (Garcia McCarthy, p. 42). Measuring education using this method provides researchers with information regarding how many years of schooling people have received. This measurement is also seen in the study of Schneider. According to Schneider, the highest level of education successfully completed is either indicated by the highest educational qualification achieved or by the number of years of education or schooling completed (2011, p. 2). The information is obtained from surveys completed by respondents. This measure however, does ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are various ways to measure socioeconomic and health inequalities but in the article, the two methods that present an accurate picture of the inequalities are the slope index of inequality and the concentration index. They provide a measurement based on their socioeconomic status and not on their health (Garcia McCarthy 2012, p. 44). The article mentions an international comparison of socioeconomic differences in health. Most countries used education as means of measurement while other countries used occupation or income. Countries who used education and income data were able to comparisons between countries. According to Munoz Arroyo and Sutton, the slope index of inequality shows the relation of health in a socioeconomic category and the ranking of socioeconomic category on the social scale (2007, p. ... In What ways is Sexuality portrayed as central to the conflicts of the individual v society in Ken Kesey s One flew over the cuckoo s nest and Tennessee Williams A street car named desire ? The capacity of sexual feelings within the individual is central to both the development and fundamental basis of any significant character. As observed in both One flew over the cuckoos nest (AKA Cuckoo s nest) and A Street car named desire (AKA. St. car) sexuality emerges as a principal device used in defining a character to the audience. By ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Their appearances can consequently be said to be greatly symbolic of their role within the narrative. The use of colour is also symbolic of character sexuality Red hots!! or face and neck the colour of oxblood leather , Red is symbolic of passion and is connected to McMurphy and Stanley, whereas the colours ivory [5] and pale blue [6] are used in describing the weaker characters that deny sexuality. The individuals role within the narrative is dependant on the conflict that arises, in these texts, due to variations within their own sexuality and society s subsequent reactions. Sexual imagery also surrounds the characters; McMurphey and Stanley further giving, once more, indication of their sexuality big stiff thumb or having those coloured lights going , more subtly there is also animalistic imagery Stanley stalks fiercely . Death rate and birth rate are two determinants of population change. Theory of Demographic Transition is comparatively recent theory that has been accepted by several scholars throughout the world. This theory embraces the observation that all countries in the world go through different stages in the growth of population. A nation s economy and level of development is directly related to that nation s birth and death rates. Population history can be divided into different stages. Some of the scholars have divided it into three and some scholars have divided it into five stages. These stages or classifications demonstrate a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But the death rate exceeds the birth rate, which triggers the population increasing very slowly or almost stable. In this stage, birth rate becomes high due to less use of contraception and sterilization. Most of the people do survive in agriculture where the children are considered as economic assets and so people are encouraged to get many children. Similarly death rate becomes high due to diseases, natural calamities, wars, etc. Infant death rate is also found very high. Because of poor health facilities provided by the state to the people, lack of clean water and sanitation and food shortage, health of the people will be weak so that the people will depart the life in high numbers. Before 1920, China and India were at this stage (Raj, H. 2003). This stage is generally found in the countries where people depend on agriculture as a main source of surviving. Information Processing Model Of Memory (1) In your own words, describe the three major components of the Information Processing Model of memory: Sensory Memory, Short term Memory, and Long term Memory. The three major components of the Information Processing Model of memory work, in a way, as a system. First, when sensory information from your sensory system gets encoded, it is considered sensory memory; lasting about a second. The sensory information is then converted into short term memory if and only if the individual is paying attention; lasting about as long as attention is held. If the information is repeated/thought about enough, it will become long term memory; basically etching itself across your cerebral cortex. • 7. Osteoporosis And Treatment Of Osteoporosis Essay Osteoporosis is one of the most prevalent bone diseases worldwide (Mulcahy, et al.). It is characterised as a disease which leads to the loss of bone mass due to bone deterioration, therefore leading to bones becoming more brittle and fragile (U.S. Department of Health and Human services, 2004). Physiologically, bone is constantly re modelled by concerted and coordinated interactions between osteoclasts, type of cells that are involved in resorption of the bones, and osteoblasts, which ensure bone formation and mineralization. Osteoporosis results from an imbalance between bone deposition and resorption (Castiglioni, et al., 2013) Osteoporosis affects millions of people worldwide, but the groups that are at highest risks include elderly and post menopausal women (International Osteoporosis Foundation, 2015). As osteoporosis is associated with aging, it becomes a major health concern as the aging population will double over the next decade (Age UK, 2016). Due to that fact, there has been an increase in an interest in development of the preventive strategies for decreasing the incidence of osteoporosis. One of most important strategies is dietary intervention, as there are nutritious factors that play a key role in formation and development of the bones. Focus Child Observation The methods used to collect data for this focus study include both five observations of the focus child during play and notes from an informal conversation with the focus child s mother. These methods were used in conjunction with one another as they compliment each other within research. This is because a particular strength of observations lies in the researcher being able to clearly see and identify what the child is doing instead of gaining this information from the child or parent which could be open to interpretation or other modifiers (McDevitt, Ellis Ormrod, Cupid, Chandler, Aloa, 2013). Utilising the informal conversation in conjunction with the observations ensured that I could still obtain the mothers perspective on her child and was useful as a confirmation of my research question after my initial observations lead me to focus on the general area of C.W s physical development and play. Deciding to only use anecdotal observations stemmed from McDevitt et al. • 28. The Economic Effects Of The Housing Bubble Collapse Between 2004 and 2006, the Federal Reserve decided to increase the interest rate at which it would lend money to banks. The effects of this led to higher interest rates passed on to consumers by the banks. Though this is only part of the issue, it contributed to the housing bubble collapse. The economic effects of what occurred were not fully realized until August of 2008.When the housing market crashed; it had tremendously adverse effects on the US as well as the World economy (Bajaj). Why did raising interest so slightly affect so many people? The simple answer is that a lot of people were living beyond their means. Banks and subprime lenders were lending money to people who realistically could not pay the loans back. President Calvin Coolidge said, There is no dignity quite so impressive, and no one independence quite so important, as living within your means . First, we must address what it looks like to live within our means. A study conducted by CNN reported that 76 percent of Americans live paycheck to paycheck (Johnson). On top of that, many do not have sufficient savings to cover six months of expenses. According to Johnson s survey, people do not have enough to save after all of their expenses. I would argue the need for judgment links to tyranny. The person setting the table for a potential process has control over how the problem is framed and if there is a problem to begin with. Perhaps the public needs to be involved in even the planning process of the process itself? Could this look like a group of stakeholders? If the goal is to create a horizontal, people controlled system of decision making? A compromise that deals with the challenge articulated above is some form of power devolution. It s not an invitation to have too many cooks in the kitchen ; rather devolution promotes the decentralization of power and decision making. Again, this is a low estimate, due to the long term care facilities are not necessarily accessible to everyone in the county, as Senior Living of Mifflenville is a private facility, and it does not appear to meet the needs of many of the people who would require Nursing Home Care. This also accounts for 170 of the available beds within the county, which indicates that there is a high need than the aforementioned estimate. It also agrees with total spending output and inflation, prices of goods rising consistently. This form of economics was developed in the 1930 s by a economist, John Maynard Keynes, in hopes of gaining a better understanding of the Great Depression. Keynes was for more government spending and lower taxes that would possibly pull the U.S. out of the depression. Keynes suggestion about this was that when the government was going good they should raise taxes and spend less money, and when they were in a bust they should lower taxes to retain money to the people. Keynes did not just expect the government to cycle money, but for the people to as well. • 40. The Role Of Leptin And Its Effects On The Reproductive... Role of leptin in PCOS. Leptin is a hormone secreted mainly from the adipose tissue, serum levels of which are influenced by obesity, insulin resistance and the levels of sex steroids (androgens and estrogens) and insulin. It is mainly involved in the regulation of body weight by decreasing appetite and increasing energy expenditure. Besides regulating the energy metabolism of the body, leptin has important actions on the reproductive system, which makes it an important link between the adipose tissue and hypothalamus pituitary gonadal (HPG) axis (2). Long term hyperinsulinemia in humans, as is the case in PCOS patients, stimulates leptin secretion from adipose tissue (9). Significantly higher leptin (P = 0.0028), and insulin concentrations, insulin: glucose ratio (IGR), and a significant correlation between leptin and fasting insulin concentrations, IGR, WHR and LH have been reported in obese PCOS women than in normal weight women with PCOS. There is a significant negative correlation between leptin and LH concentrations, independently of either BMI or IGR, suggesting a possible involvement of leptin in LH hypersecretion (10). Estrogens increase, whereas androgens suppress leptin production, suggesting sexual dimorphism in leptin levels (2). The direct and indirect effects of leptin on the HPG axis, such as acceleration of GnRH pulsatility (but not the pulse amplitude) in a dose dependent manner, suggest that leptin may play an important role in the pathogenesis of PCOS. ...
