Food Labeling
Introduction There once was a time where words like light and low fat on food packages that had no
nutritional meaning. As a result, shoppers were often led to believe they were buying products that
were more helpful than they really were. Nutrition panels on labels were also confusing and hard to
read. But the Australia New Zealand Authority (ANZFA) changed all that. In March 2001 the ANZFA
defined new standardized terms that appear on food labels such as low fat , reduced and lean to control
how food manufacturers could put their facts that are relevant to most of our dietary needs. This
meaning that food labeling helps consumers to make the best possible food choice. What is a food
label? What is on a food label? A ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If a product has a nutrition claim on it, it has to have a panel, which has to be laid out as illustrated on
the back of the pecan label. 8. Nutrient Claim There is a lot of legal claims on the pecan label such as
not genetically modified , Mono unsaturated , no insecticide , no cholesterol , unsalted , no sugar , free
recipes and natural . Conclusion With all the information that I have collected about food labeling, all
of them had negative thoughts about the legal standard terms. I believe that the newly resolved
problem with the food labeling standard terms need to get more recognition because in the future
consumers wont have to fight any more for information to help them choose the foods they want and
eat in a healthy diet. Food labels contain vital information, not misleading or

Pilgrim s Progress
While people go through life, they are faced with trials and temptations, but how people deal with
these obstacles determines whether or not they reach the Celestial City. In the novel, The Pilgrim s
Progress, John Bunyan writes about a man named Christian who had a dream that led to a pilgrimage.
Throughout the book, Christian meets many people who are setting out to be saved and receive eternal
security. Eternal Security is a teaching that asserts that once a person is truly born again by the
indwelling of the Holy Spirit, nothing in Earth shall be able to separate us from the love of God, but
due to a variety of different reasons they all turn around and go back home. One outstanding person
that Christian encountered was Faithful. He accompanied Christian on his journey and faced many
trials, but he never lost courage or gave up. When Faithful and Christian reached Vanity Fair, Faithful
was murdered because of his beliefs; therefore, he will spend eternity with Jesus Christ in Heaven. In
the poem, No Man is an Island, John Donne states No man is an island, entire of itself. Donne is

In the story The Lark and her Children the lark and her children lived in a wheat farm that was owned
by a farmer. Once the wheat was ripe he had to cut it down, so he called his friends to help him. He
waited to hear their car come down the driveway. The Larks mother told them he won t get it done.

Summary Of Chris Mccandless And Henry David Thoreau
To some, adventurers like Chris McCandless are young, idealistic, and resolute people with high
moral standards. They want to take everything they can out of life, and they want to experience every
facet of it. However, this isn t a view everyone shares. To others, McCandless was an irrational kid
with no experience who couldn t handle his family issues. On the other hand, Henry David Thoreau is
viewed as a calm, steady, and contemplative man with a dedicated love of nature. Chris McCandless
and Henry David Thoreau share many similarities, but they also have defining differences. Chris was
different from Thoreau because he was running from his past whereas Thoreau wanted to go to the
woods, and Chris overestimated himself whereas Thoreau was more level headed, but they were
similar in that they both didn t believe in material objects. Chris went into the wild because he wanted
to escape his past and because of his general hatred towards prejudice against society, while Thoreau
was more positively motivated to go to the wilderness. His motivation to go to the woods was
negative because he was running away from something. Although his friends and family described
him as very independent and motivated to go against everything he was taught, his real motivation
was because of his family struggles. Chris s father, Walt, never fully divorced his ex wife, Marcia, and
he still had relations with her despite being married to Billie. When Billie found out, she was very
hurt, and so were Walt and Marcia. However, to make amends, Walt finalized the divorce with Marcia.
They resolved the problem and moved on. When Chris unearthed this truth, he was unbelievably
upset, but he didn t address it directly. Instead, he waited years to talk about it, occasionally shunning
his parents and judging them behind their backs. Chris was very self righteous, and he took every
opportunity to denounce his father even though the issue of the divorce had been resolved. He
expressed his anger in a very passive way, and because he never found real closure, his anger
accumulated. He decided to release his anger indirectly. This is why he took classes on racial
inequality, and why he was so mad about poverty in the United States. His outrage

Tim O Brien s Captivating and Life-Changing Story The...
The Things They Carried is a short verisimilitude story. It was written by Tim O Brien, who is a
Vietnam veteran. He never dreamed it would have been such a captivating and life changing story that
it has become. Tim O Brien introduces us to life during the Vietnam War. He captures the feelings of
each soldier as they were in the battle field. We are involved in their dreams, fears, and the ghosts that
haunted them. These were some of the things they carried. First Lieutenant Jimmy Cross carried
letters from a girl named Martha (O Brien, 1990). This is how we are introduced to Cross. He is a
young soldier that is responsible for his platoon. He is only 22 years old. He carries his love for a
young lady by the name of Martha. He also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was one less burden he had to carry, but the other 16 had this burden. He also carried a ghost.
Dave Jensen, we are introduced to him as a hygiene fanatic. He carried a toothbrush, dental floss, and
several hotel size bars of soap he d stolen on R R in Sydney, Australia (O Brien, 1990). He also carried
extra socks and foot powder. Jensen also carried vitamins for night sight. He carried a rabbit s foot for
luck. He also carried a ghost. Ted Lavender was scared and carried many things to keep himself calm.
He carried tranquilizers and dope. He also carried extra ammunitions because of his fear. Lavender
ended up being the biggest weight that the others had to carry. His death affected each of them in
different ways. Rat Kiley was the platoon medic. He carried comic books and a canvas satchel filled
with morphine and plasma and malaria tablets and surgical tape (O Brien, 1990). He carried all the
things that would be needed for combat injuries. There was nothing he could do for Ted Lavender,
except to pronounce him dead. He also carried a ghost. Kiowa is introduced as a devout Baptist and as
an Indian. He carried his New Testament Bible that was given to him by his father. Kiowa also carried
his grandmother s distrust of the white man and his grandfather s old hunting hatchet (O Brien, 1990).
Kiowa also carried the vision of Ted Lavender being shot. He repeated the moment in his mind
endlessly. He carried the guilt of not being able to

Dirt ! The Movie Analysis
Dirt! The Movie Dirt! Was a very interesting movie. I never looked at dirt the way that the scientist
looked at dirt. The way they talk about how everything works together and how dirt was the first
living organism on earth was something I honestly didn t know. Normally science and religion are
very different on how life began and how things came to be, it was interesting how this movie
incorporated both in the story. One of the most interesting stories was the one about the guy who had
the garden grow in the back of his truck while he was in the hospital. I ve exactly seen this before in
the junkyard before but never looked at it in a way of how life in that truck came to be and how it
grows in an environment like that. It seems as if dirt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I always saw those in Afghanistan and never knew that about them I just thought that people built
them because they had no money. They mix it up like cement almost its looks almost the same without
the chemicals. The adding of pesticides can also deplete the life of the dirt and possibly kill of the soil
needed to grow crops for future farmers. The fact that our own pesticides are killing off the soil and
then running into the water is scary. To think that we drink that water and some places use it to water
their own plants. I could not believe how many trees are being destroyed and how a lot of them are
being used for things like catalogs and newspaper adds that most of us just through away, we are
wasting them and don t even think about it. Soil is a living systems that cannot with stand all of these
chemicals and erosion that are constantly being done to it. We are hurting the farmers and the land
because of greed for money. The movie connects to your human side and really makes you think of
the pain and strain we are putting on humans around the world because of what we have done wrong
in agriculture. There are people eating yellow dirt cakes as food, how could we let it get to that. I
would never eat one of those, how can the world not see this and try and help or stop doing what we
are doing. We have to do better and we have to

Danielle Agoglia s Study Of Jealousy
Something Mr. Naji brought up was that jealousy and paranoia about what your partner is doing.
Those same temptations you may feel are also pressures for them afterall. But miss Danielle Agoglia,
from Elite Daily, offers another perspective: you need to trust your partner. Letting go of all those
fears and concerns and simply realizing that your partner, just like you, is in love and wants to make
this work. Just like the participants in Meitzner and Li wen s study, Agoglia found she began to trust
herself a lot more as she trusted her partner. While these are all anecdotal evidence, I do think it can
lend itself to making one think at the very least. Essentially, as you trust your partner you not only
better the relationship by lessening or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Regardless, trusting your partner not only to do right by you and your relationship but also to help you
when you need it can take a lot of stress off of your shoulders. Learning to really and truly trust your
partner, while easier said than done is essential to a functioning long distance relationship.
There is a difference between trusting support and dependency, however. It is a very important
difference too. As an individual, each partner must come to terms with the distance and be able to fend
for themselves. This may seem at odds with the previous two maintenance methods as it advocates for
more independence from the relationship, but it is important. Unlike a lot of couples you can t live
together and have separate lives and finances. This makes practical support incredibly difficult, so
instead couples emotionally support each other. This is good, and should definitely be encouraged
behavior. Unfortunately, some couples will become emotionally dependent. What this means is that
one partner relies on the other as the source for his or her happiness. In her article on The Huffington
Post, Margaret Paul discusses this issue. I often see couples where one partner is emotionally
dependent

Three Qualities That Groups Expect From Their Leaders
James Kouzes and Barry Posner (1987), authors of The Leadership Challenge , have done research
concentrating on what the organization looks for and expects from their leaders. The researchers have
identified four qualities that groups expect from their leaders:
1. Trustworthiness leaders must win the trust and assurance of the followers that are asked to change.
The school community counts on the principal to walk the talk. Even though it might take a while for
the group members to trust the new leader, when proceeding consistently with the school s mission
and vision, the group s trust develops. It is vital that the leader does not break that trust, as it will be
challenging to recover it. No change or achievement can occur if ... Show more content on

The leader needs to give personal attention to the participants who seem ignored and respond to the
needs of the individual staff members. The leaders make the individuals feel valuable and are counted
on to participate and contribute to the success of the organization. An important factor is the
establishment of a social connection with the individual. This means setting aside the leadership hat
and become fully engaged with the individual by sharing experiences and passions, thus, building trust
and encouraging the neglected individual to gain a sense of belonging. At the same time, the
individual s needs for achievement and growth are being nurtured to realize the individual s full
potential (Bennis Goldsmith, 2010). Bass (1990) also mentions that at this point the leaders listen
efficiently and assign responsibilities with the purpose of developing the individual. The given
responsibilities are observed to see if the individual requires extra provision and to evaluate growth. In
this process, the individual is not supposed to feel like he or she is being assessed. When the leaders
practice this type of attitude, the members of the organization respond with involvement, collaboration
and strive to bring valuable ideas and actions to the table.
As a principal, I am responsible for motivating and engaging all the stakeholders in the school
community I lead. It is clear that a principal cannot improve the school s outcome on his/her own;
therefore, by establishing a

The Bermuda Triangle Theory
Mysteries and theories behind the Bermuda Triangle
While researching different websites and resources about the Bermuda Triangle, I came across many
different theories and explanations about the Bermuda Triangle. The Bermuda Triangle, also known as
the Devil s Triangle, is a section in the Atlantic Ocean between Miami, Bermuda, and Puerto Rico
where ships and planes have disappeared with no trace of them. The Bermuda Triangle covers about
500,000 square miles of ocean, which is a very popular shipping lane where ships travel through. In
this essay theories and disappearances will be explained, giving a brief but thorough explanation of
each topic. My goal in this essay is to provide
These disappearances go all the way back to Christopher Columbus, stating that Columbus and his
crew saw bright lights come out of the ocean and fly into the sky. Columbus claims there was a fire
but scholars assume it was a sighting of a meteor falling. On the website article Bermuda Triangle:
Where facts disappear , it is explained how the compasses begin to stop working, It has been
inaccurately claimed that the Bermuda Triangle is one of the two places on earth at which a magnetic
compass points towards true north. Normally a compass will point toward magnetic north. The
difference between the two is known as compass variation. ... Although in the past this compass
variation did affect the Bermuda Triangle region, due to fluctuations in the Earth s magnetic field this

Hearing impairment paper
Due May 2, 2007
According to Rena Lewis and Donald Doorlag, authors of Teaching Special Students in General
Education Classrooms, a hearing impairment is a disability characterized by a decrease in ability to
hear (pg 425). A child with a hearing impairment has trouble hearing sounds in the range of normal
human speech. There area three basic types of hearing impairments: sensorineural hearing loss,
conductive hearing loss, and mixed hearing loss. Along with these impairments there are many
different signs that as parents and teachers we can look for so that we can have accurate testing done.
Once the impairment is identified we can decide what type of amplification ... Show more content on

As children get older three years and above there are other signs to look for adds Strong Health
Audiology these may consists of using excessively high volumes when watching TV or listening to
the radio, responding in appropriately to questions asked, or failing to answer when being talked to,
intently watching others so that they can imitate what they are doing, experiencing speech problems or
they have delayed speech, they may also be having difficulty in school, and they may also speak
differently than other children of the same age. When any of these signs are noticed an assessment
should be done. Assessment for a hearing impairment is very important, a hearing screening test will
separate you into two groups: a passing group and a failing group. The ones who pass the screening
are presumed to have no hearing loss. If you fail you are in need of an extensive evaluation which
would be performed by an audiologist and you may also need follow up care from other professionals.
Tests for hearing impairments can be performed any time from birth through adult years. According to
the Hearing Loss Association of America more than 7 million children are diagnosed with a hearing
impairment, many of these can be present at birth, or they can develop later in life. The percentages
rise when an infant is born

Outline the Contribution of Marxism to Our Society Essay
OUTLINE THE CONTRIBUTION OF MARXISM TO OUR UNDERSTANDING OF SOCIETY
Marxism is an ideology based on the economic and political theories of Karl Marx and Freidrich
Engels. Karl Marx who was born in Germany in 1818 was a revolutionary whose ideas on society
were the foundation of communism. Under modern capitalism the means of production, such as
factories, land, and technology are controlled by a small minority who Marx called the bourgeoisie.
Production is carried out by the working class, known as the proletarians who have to sell their labour
or face poverty or starvation. Taken together these two classes form the economic base of society,
what Marx called the substructure. Marx saw that there was conflict between these two divisions ...

American sociologists, (Bowles et al 1976) maintain there is a close correspondence between the
social relationships which govern school and work. This correspondence principle link work and
education with its system of hierarchies and rules which prepare people for a subservient role in the
workplace, by exploiting them as servants of a capitalist system, and continuing to perpetuate class
stratification. (Giddens, A. 1997) The education system disguises this with its myth of meritocracy
(Haralambos et al p 604) Cultural deprivation theorists suggest middle class children have advantage
over WC, in that at an early age they are socialised and exposed to books, music and technology
known as cultural capital. According to (Bordieu et al 1977) education is biased in favour of the
culture of the dominant social class and WC culture is devalued. In an attempt to test Bordieus theory
(Sullivan, 2001) carried out a social survey on pupils approaching school leaving age in 1998 and
found that pupils cultural capital was strongly correlated with parents cultural capital...which in turn
was closely linked to their social class She also found significant differences in exam results between
WC and MC children even when the effects of cultural capital had been taken into account which
tended to support in part Bourdieus theory. (Haralambas cites Keddie, N. 1973) who argues that
culture deprivation is a myth. It

Dna Discovery Essay
As the instructions for all living cells, DNA is a complex molecule and the basis of biology. The
structure of DNA is the same for all organisms. (Fredholm, 2003) The journey to understanding DNA
began in 1866 when Augustinian monk Gregor Mendel discovered the basic principles of genetics.
Although the scientific community did not fully appreciate or credit his work in his lifetime, Mendel is
now considered the father of genetics. Mendel s advanced experiments with pea plants between 1856
and 1863 identified the existence of dominant and recessive traits. He unknowingly described genes as
the invisible factors for providing a predictable phenotype. Although credited to American English
duo James Watson and Francis Crick, the next ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rosalind Franklin s work using X ray diffraction also led to the discovery of the DNA structure for
which Watson, Crick and Maurice Wilkins shared Nobel Prize recognition in 1962. (Pray, 2008) Her
work included establishing the water content of DNA using X ray crystallography and fuzzily
revealing the pattern of a helical structure with Photography 51. (Fredholm, 2017) Franklin was the
first person to view DNA, but since she was a woman credit was not granted in her name. She also did
not qualify to receive the Nobel Prize as she died 4 years earlier, in April 1958. The Hungarian born
American biochemist Erwin Chargaff contributed in solving the mystery regarding the four
nitrogenous bases of DNA. In 1949, he showed that amounts of these bases are always balanced, even
if different organisms had different amounts of DNA. This specified a 1:1 ratio of purine to pyrimidine
base in each nucleotide and creates a consistent width throughout the DNA molecule. (Fredholm,
2003) Adenine and guanine are larger, double ringed purines. Thymine and cytosine are smaller
pyrimidines. Adenine will only bond with a thymine in DNA; cytosine only to guanine. The
complementary bases are paired together with hydrogen bonds. (BiologyWise, 2017) Chargaff s rules
were solidifying insight for Watson to recognize a helix outside of smooth sugar phosphate backbone
and congruent lengths of A T and C G bonds in February 1953.

Research Study On Conducting Communication Research
When conducting communication research, it is extremely important to take ethics into consideration.
Will this research be confidential, will you use deception, and will the research you are doing harm
any of the participants, are all extremely important factors to consider. These factors will be identified
and considered while using the following hypothesis: As children increase their technology usage,
interpersonal communication skills decrease.
Confidentiality Anonymity The first ethical consideration that must be established is whether or not
the study will offer confidentiality to the participating parties. In the instance of this communication
research study, when it comes to trying to prove or disprove the hypothesis, there will be no reason to
not offer complete confidentiality and anonymity. In this study, we are analyzing children and the
guarantee of confidentiality and anonymity would offer comfort so the participants can act naturally
without fear of judgment (Jamison, n.d.). If I were a participant in this research study, I would prefer
that all of the data collected remain confidential. I personally do not feel that the research study would
need to be anonymous. This is because I am an adult and am comfortable in my responses as they
pertain to the hypothesis. The hypothesis is not asking any overly person information be disclosed.
However, since the hypothesis involves children that could be minors, I feel it is necessary that

Essay on Controversy Behind South Park s Ethics
Controversy Behind South Park s Ethics
South Park, the animated TV series aired on Comedy Central was created by Matt Stone and Trey
Parker and is one of the many new shows that involve animation with high level adult comedy that
parodies current events going on across the United States and throughout the world. South Park is just
one of many new shows that involve this sort of high end entertainment and they are taking the
television ratings by storm. This show, along with others of its nature such as Family Guy, The
Simpsons, and King of the Hill are all extremely controversial in nature and in regards to the

FOX gave them $2,000 to make a video portfolio that he could send as a Christmas card to other
company executives to pitch the idea of the show. I did the animation using nothing more then
construction paper cutouts, Parker says, and we both improvised the dialogue, screaming obscenities
at each other in my basement for hours while my mom was baking fudge upstairs wondering what in
the world we were doing. It cost $750 and we pocketed the rest. To complete this project they used
relatively the same exact setup as they had previously done at the University of Colorado in Boulder.
When it came to doing work for the first Pilot show for South Park, Matt and Trey used more than
5,000 construction paper cut outs and a the same exact 16mm camera. Each action shot was filmed
frame by frame directly onto video film. It took approximately 70 days to make the pilot for the show.
Using traditional methods for the Comedy Central pilot the duo claimed it took us forever, because it
was 22 minutes long, Stone says. Another animator, Terrence Masson, was the first to suggest that
South Park could be made using CG and he proceeded to make a 10 second playground scene using
cut outs he had received with approval from Matt and Trey. Computers were used starting with the
very first episode, but the episodes didn t look like construction paper animation again until episode
105, An Elephant Makes Love to a Pig.

Marketing Plan For The Whirlpool Corporation
The Whirlpool Corporation is a multinational corporation with its world headquarters located in
Benton Harbor, Michigan. Whirlpool manufacturers home appliances including Kitchen Aid, Maytag,
and Amana. First started in 1911, manufacturing electric hand wringers, it has grown into a global
world leader in home appliances manufacture.
Growth strategies
1. Internal growth This is growth from within the corporation using internal resources. This would
include focusing on new products or a new marketing plan. (Chand 2016)
a. Market penetration: Whirlpool saw a decrease in business by 2012 in the U.S. market but has
increased market penetration through efforts such as new products and renewed advertising. In 2014,

In 2002 Whirlpool purchased Amana, which manufactures ovens, refrigerators, dishwashers and air
conditioners. Amana had products with a mature growth cycle as did Whirlpool so this was a good
strategy to increase their product line and loyal customer base.
b. Horizontal related diversification is when a company adds products that are unrelated to its current
offerings. Whirlpool purchased Kitchen Aid in 1986, which manufactured stand mixers, among other
products. This was not something Whirlpool was familiar with but using the celebrity chef popularity
at the time, promoted Kitchen Aid heavily and markedly increased their customer base. (History
Heritage)
c. Conglomerate unrelated diversification is growth strategy that involves adding new products or
services that are significantly different from the organization s present products or services. This
happens when the company diversifies into an area that is completely dissimilar to the current line of
business. Whirlpool currently offers licensing upon approval to any products. Products they license
now include water softeners, water coolers, upright vacuums and outdoor grills. These products, when
sold with the Whirlpool name behind them, increases brand name awareness as well as loyal
customers. (Brand Licensing 2016)
d. Vertical integration is when a company performs more than one or two parts in their supply chain

Romeo Montague is characterized by his passion and his tendency to make rash decisions. Throughout
Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare provides examples of these two of Romeo s qualities, and, ultimately,
they are what define him as a tragic hero.
From the beginning of the play, it is evident that Romeo is a passionate person. In Act I, Romeo is in a
depressive state due to him falling in love with a woman named Rosaline. Romeo goes on a tirade
about how he is somber due to love and how love can destroy a person. He is feeling rejected due to
the fact that Rosaline does not love him back (1.1 L. 164 176). Romeo is infatuated with this woman.

unusual use of form and syntax, but it was her pervasive themes of immortality, death, and madness in
her poems that would canonize her as an indelible American character.
In Much Madness is the divinest Sense, Dickinson emphatically establishes a theme of madness
within the context of the poem. This poem is rather difficult to read and not feel that it is inspirited by
Dickinson s own life of reclusion, which many have presented as a symptom of her insanity. Much
Madness is the divinest Sense discombobulates the notion of what s crazy and what s not, it s a piece
for every person who has ever pondered Am I insane...or is the world completely mad? Dickinson

Abandonment And Abandonment In Frankenstein
Frankenstein, written by Mary Shelley in 1817, is a story of obsession, heartache, abandonment,
vanity, and more. This is a fiction with many levels and views for people of all ages, and it was
assigned to our Senior English class. The novel is centered around the story of Victor Frankenstein
and his creation and the many trials and affairs they go through. Throughout the story, both characters
make many choices that they shouldn t. However, when you take into account all of the events that
lead to those poor choices, I believe it s the creation that is most justified. To be abandoned and hated
simply because of your appearance, something you had no control over and can t change, is enough to
turn anyone into a vengeful soul. This story starts out with letters from Captain Walton talking to his
sister about a strange man they found on an iceberg. This strange man had a very dark and desolate
story, and it was time it be told. This man was Victor Frankenstein. Frankenstein was a scientist with a
dismal past, and it all started with a bolt of lighting. After seeing a bolt of lightning strike a tree by his
home, Frankenstein became obsessed with electricity, and throughout the story, his obsession grew to
include all kinds of social sciences and the like. This leads him to college, and eventually to the worst
decision of his life.
Victor makes catastrophic choice when he decides that he wants to make a new life form. Frankenstein
becomes obsessed with making this new being

The Dark Side Of The Perfectly Manicured American Lawn
One way that authors attempt to get their readers to think about the environment is by drawing
attention to the fact that people harm it. For example, in The Dark Side of the Perfectly Manicured
American Lawn: Is It Giving You Cancer? the author talks about the common herbicide 2,4 D and
writes, At first, its impact on humans seems mild skin and eye irritation, nausea, vomiting, dizziness,
stiffness in the arms and legs, (Jenkins, 2016). In the event that these symptoms aren t off putting
enough, the author then claims that 2,4 D can actually cause cancer in humans because it stimulates
extremely rapid cell growth (Jenkins, 2016). I don t know about you, but I think that trading your

Gene Stratton Porter uses this technique in her book, Moths of the Limberlost. Instead of talking about
chemicals and pesticides and the dangers of using then, Stratton Porter gets us to think about the
environment by promoting it. Then the Winter Swamp had all the lacy exquisite beauty of such
locations when snow and frost draped, while from May until October it was practically tropical jungle,
she writes (Citation here). Not only does she focus on the land and plants, but she also talks about the
animals that live in this swamp, primarily moths, calling them, fragile night wanderers and
moonflowers of June s darkness (Citation here). The Limberlost Swamp sounds like a beautiful place
that you would want to visit, right? Of course, the hidden implication is that you can t, or at least not
unless humans change the way we treat the environment.
An additional technique used by authors to motivate readers to treat the environment well is using
fictional works to get their message across. A well known example of this is The Lorax by Dr. Seuss.
When you read this story as a kid, you may not realize that the story intentionally mirrors our world
today, but eventually you realize that it isn t just about truffalump trees being cut down; it s about real
ones: pine trees and oaks and sycamores, to name a few. The humming fish mentioned in the story
may not exist in real life, but we are harming actual fish by polluting our rivers with dangerous

Traumatic Brain injury (TBI) is projected to be a significant cause of global disease burden by 2020;
with an estimated 10 million people affected by TBI annually worldwide. A concussion is the most
common form of TBI and is particularly prevalent among children and young adults. The U.S. Centers
for Disease Control (CDC) reported an annual estimated 1.6 3.8 million sports related TBI, with a cost
of $12 billion in the year 2000. Tertiary prevention focused on physical and psychological
rehabilitation is known to reduce disability and improve quality of life. Chronic traumatic
encephalopathy in professional athletes diagnosed after death by brain biopsy has brought attention to
the complication of inadequately treated sport related concussion.

The Queen Of Spades Alexander Pushkin Analysis
The human mind proves itself extremely turbulent and intricate in its functionality. Before modern
medicine understood it to the extent that it does in the present day, ideas of insanity and madness were
speculated by the masses. Even today, in an era that has become so progressive in medical studies and
knowledge, the topic still remains ambiguous. In the nineteenth century, there was a great deal of
misunderstanding when it came to insanity, with this curiosity came artistic expression. As seen in the
1834 work of Alexander Pushkin, The Queen of Spades, the journey to this supposed madness is
explored and traced through literal phrasing as well as contextual evidence. The tale faults the
protagonist s, Hermann s, very human vices of rage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Such a claim is supplemented with the claim that the gun was not loaded, making his innocence highly
plausible. At face value, he seems to have logically thought out a means by which to acquire his
information; this is contradicted upon further inspection and the idea that he may have already lost his
battle to maintaining his sanity. His plan to enter the cupboard and wait for the countess is so
calculated and drawn out by Pushkin it is hard to believe his decision to draw a firearm on the old
woman be undeserving of an introduction of a similar nature. Its abrupt and sudden appearance almost
mirrors the lack of structure present in his mind. There is no indication that the gun was, in fact, empty
of bullets other than the word of a man that is later committed. As the theme of what appears to be is
not always so is prevalent throughout the tale, there is fair reason to believe that his rage over took his
sensibility, much as his desire had done, and drove him to his actions. Was it not for the sudden death
of The Countess, there is no concrete indication that he would not use the weapon on

How Did Pablo Escobar Change The Western World
Pablo Escobar, also known as the king of cocaine, changed the western world. He also changed what

about drug cartels in the 1990 s. This information can be used to learn from the past events and

how changes in the Welfare system such as the job seeking prerequisite help to reproduce inequality

Accordingly, in order to end welfare dependency and promote self sufficiency, the program change its
policy on income entitlement. Such change began to regulate cash assistance, limit welfare benefits,
and job search requirements (Ong, 2002). It is argued that since the implementation of the (PWA) the
number of welfare participants who receive welfare benefits has been decreasing at record rates. As
reported in What Has Welfare Reform Accomplished? Impacts On Welfare Participation,
Employment, Income, Poverty, and Family Structure by Robert Schoeni, After peaking in 1994,
welfare caseloads had dropped 50 percent by June 1999; at that time, just 6.9 million 4 people
representing 2.5 percent of the population were receiving welfare. Not since 1967 has such a small
share of the population relied on welfare (Schoeni, et.al, 2000, p. 3). In addition, his data shows a
decline Between January 1997 and December 1999, 1.8 million families left the welfare rolls, almost
double the number that moved out of welfare in the three previous years (Schoeni, et.al, 2000, p. 4).
Other research shows similar data, for instance, In 1994, 5.5 percent of the U.S. population was
dependent on welfare; 5 years, and a series of state and federal welfare reforms later, the proportion
had shrunk to 2.3 percent (Kaushal, et.al, 2001, p.2). The decline in welfare rolls have been attributed
to two things, first, the increment of jobs in the labor market and changes in welfare

War In The Things They Carried
Thomas Mann once said War is only a cowardly escape from the problems of peace. This quote
exemplifies how detrimental the war was in this time. Throughout history, different authors wrote
about how they used their knowledge about war to protest against the horror that war brings. Author
Stephen Crane writes about perception versus reality in his poem War is Kind . Author Wilfred Owen
who served in the British army wrote Dulce et Decorum Est before getting killed in action in 1918.
Also, author Tim O Brien who is an american novelist wrote to protest the war in The Things They
Carried. Lastly, author Kevin Powers, who is known for his book The Yellow Birds. These writers use
imagery, irony, and structure to protest war. In the poem Dulce et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen,
imagery is used to protest war. Stanza three states, His hanging face, like a devil s sick of sin; If you
could hear, at every jolt, the blood come gargling from froth corrupted lungs... (Owen). This quotation
illustrates how desensitized these men have become to the suffering of war. Directly after this quote,
Wilfred Owen explains the meaning of Dulce et Decorum Est and he also introduces the quote as The
old Lie . Both of these examples demonstrate the visual picture of how the war is extremely negative.
Similarly, Kevin Powers also uses imagery in his book, The Yellow Birds, to protest against the
wrathful war. The excerpt states ...and old arty shells and the... the guts... and everything

Competitive Advantage And Competitive Advantages
With the breakneck advancements in today s market, having sustainable competitive advantage has
become imperative so as to survive. The metamorphosis of technology has made the job further
challenging to have a competitive advantage and sustain it. Competitive advantage is defined as an
idiosyncratic lead a firm has over its fellow challengers and emulators. This lead enables the firm to
vanquish its challenger. In other words it is something that distinguishes an organization from the
competitors. For a competitive advantage to be sustainable, the firm has create value creating products
or services that cannot be mirrored or matched by its fellow competitors and thereby it will able to
outlast for a longer period of time (Bharadwaj, S, Varadarajan, P, Fahy, J 1993) Sustainable
competitive advantage entirely depends on how an organization performs in a competitive
environment. In order to sustain and consolidate the company s position, innovation becomes crucial.
Companies should be in a position to embrace the changes in order to be abreast of the competition
and hold its position (Daniela, P ,2014). Apart from innovation, the internal and the external forces
along with the knowledge management form the vital factors. For an organization to gain the
competitive advantage and sustain it, it has to innovate and globalize the vital factors mentioned.

Protein Thermal Stability Essay
Proteins are a series of connected amino acids, and in food products, proteins provide both nutritional
and functional properties that contribute to the quality of a food system (Christen and Smith 2000).
Protein in the diet is essential to the maintenance of life and health. Proteins are compounds with a
function that do work in the body such as facilitate reactions; however, proteins are also functional in
food systems. Proteins are used for a variety of reasons such as: to create an emulsion, join pieces of
meat together, form a skin on the surface of a product, and form a stable foam matrix. Milk proteins
such as whey and casein are isolated for many different functions in food systems such as: foaming,
whipping, gelation, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are multiple methodologies implemented by scientists to determine protein concentration. One
of the oldest and most commonly used methods is the Biuret method (Okutucu and others 2007). The
Biuret method is a colormetric assay that utilizes a spectrophotometric change accomplished by
reactions containing peptide bonds in conjunction with copper (Okutucu and others 2007; Gornall and
others 1949) to determine protein concentration based on a standard reference. Thermal stability of a
protein is an important factor in food systems. Heat is commonly used to cook and/or sterilize a food
product for a number of reasons. Heat is used in cooking to denature the proteins present in bacteria to
destroy them; however, if certain food proteins are denatured, the food product could lose its
functionality. Heating can also have beneficial effects on proteins such as flavor, tenderness and
digestibility (Christen and Smith 2000).
Protein thermal stability is not fully understood and can be due to a host of factors such as internal
folding, hydrogen bonding, electrostatic forces, and calcium affinity (Vogt and Argos 1997). There are
many types of proteins that convey thermally stable properties such as malate dehydrogenase, lactate

Gertrude Stein s A Rose
A rose is a rose is a rose Gertrude Stein. Gertrude Stein who many consider her a major author, the
founder of a new literary style, the great apologist for Modernism, and the discoverer and promoter of
the French school of contemporary painting. She was the beginning of a new era, some looked up to
her while others thought she was an insignificant person (but how wrong they were). Gertrude Stein
influenced a new generation in the arts. She helped encourage new and old authors and painters.
Gertrude Stein enjoyed writing simple phrases that can be interpreted into masterpieces. She was an
activist, out of the box thinker and internationally known during the late 1800s and early 1900s.

Gertrude Stein was born on February 3, 1874 in Allegheny, Pennsylvania to Daniel and Amelia Stein.
Both parents were from the German Jewish descent. Gertrude Stein is one of five three boys and two
girls. From 1875 until 1878 her family moved and lived in Austria and France. But in 1880, her family
moved back to the United States and settled in Oakland, California. Daniel Stein was a wealthy
businessman and only expected the best for his family. Her parents were a part of a synagogue, and
she went to Sabbath day school, but was not a religious Jew. Nevertheless, Stein grew up believing
strongly that Jews shared certain personal traits, such as superior intelligence, financial acumen, and
loyalty to one another, she respected and understood her background and roots. After her mother and
father passed away, Stein s oldest brother took over as head of family and moved to San Francisco.
But then in 1892, Gertrude Stein moved to Baltimore with her siblings to live with an aunt. The
following year she entered Harvard Annex and later worked under Hugo Munsterberg, in the Harvard
Psychological Laboratory. She studied there for four years and graduated with a degree. However, in
1897 she entered Johns Hopkins Medical School only to flunk four courses and not receive a degree.
It may seem that this experience was her all time low. In 1903, Gertrude Stein decided to move to
Paris with her brother. There they began their start in the arts;

Daytona Beach Descriptive Essay
Daytona Beach On the morning of June 17, 2016, I woke up with a smile on my face like it was
Christmas morning. I launched myself out of bed to take a quick shower before I was to meet my
friends to leave for Daytona Florida. We planned this trip months ahead of time when we found out
there was a truck meet on the weekend of June 18th and 19th. The truck meet we went to was where
anyone who owned a pickup truck could come down to Daytona Florida and drive on the beach to get
to mingle and entertain one another for the weekend. We met at a local gas station in Morgantown
Kentucky at eight that morning. There was eleven of us total going on the trip, my father, Robbie
Henderson, my friend Seth Gaskey and his father, Jimmy Gaskey, my ... Show more content on

While waiting in line we noticed they seemed to be slow with taking orders but we were starving so
we decided to wait it out. After placing our orders, we were asked to wait off to the side of the window
to receive the food. It thought the sun was going to set before we received our order. Finally, after
forty five minutes of waiting we got our food and set down to eat. This was our first delay during the
drive down and we thought as long as we did not have any more we would still arrive at a decent time.
We ramped back onto the interstate after everyone finished eating and still had approximately six
hours prior to arriving. While driving down the interstate we recognized a truck from Instagram that
was also headed to Daytona. It was a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado that had a large lift under it with
aftermarket wheels and a custom pink and white paint job. The reason it was partially pink is because
it was owned by a woman. We traveled the interstate for about three hours after stopping to eat when
we crossed the Florida state line and stopped at the welcome center to use the restroom. While parking
we noticed an odd screeching sound coming from underneath the front end of Seth s Ford. This would
become our second delay as we found out after inspecting his truck that his front passenger side wheel
hub bearing was ruined. Immediately we started looking for the closest auto

Baha I Faith In Religion
The religion Baha ism was founded by Bahá u lláh in 1863. This religion began in Iran and now has
approximately five million followers from around the world. The basic premise of the Baha i Faith is
that all the religions of the world come from the same source and have value. The reason the Baha i
Faith has grown to become a relatively large religion is most likely due to the central teaching that all
people are created equal regardless of race or ethnicity. This belief will likely make the Baha i Faith
more relevant and will allow it to continue to grow.
Sikhism is a religion practiced primarily in India and is one of the largest religions in the world in
terms of followers. Sikhism is a relatively young religion founded in the 15th century.

Nuclear Weapons Be Banned
There is only one way to get rid of nuclear weapons...Use them! (Rush Limbaugh). The world has
over 14,900 nuclear weapons 93% of them are owned by The United States of America and Russia.
Nuclear weapons were first used in world war two. When they were first used they were very
destructive and really put an impact on the world. Nuclear weapons are very deadly and are constantly
getting redesigned to be more and more powerful. Not only do nuclear weapons affect people, they
also affect the earth, the climate, and animals. Although nuclear weapons affect many things in the
world they keep peace too. Nuclear weapons should not be banned worldwide. I believe nuclear

They believe just by having them we could hurt the world. Many want them gone because of the
power that they contain and the power they give. Others say that nuclear weapons affect mankind, and
that it will destroy mankind for good. They want a worldwide ban on nuclear weapons because if they
get into the wrong hands it could go drastically wrong. Many other people believe that if we get rid of
nuclear weapons for good, then we will have complete world peace. They think that the world will be
so much better off without weapons with so much power. People think that with nuclear weapons
comes war. The way they want to get rid of the nuclear weapons is by dismantling them and throwing
them away. Could you imagine getting rid of over 14,900 nuclear weapons? The cost of just doing that
would be millions alone. Many people believe that nuclear weapons are the worst thing that mankind
has invented and that they should be eliminated for good. People say that it affects the climate and
animals, well they only affect the climate if the weapon is used. The countries that have the majority
of the nuclear weapons are at peace with one another. They don t want to start war with each other,
because they know of what can happen if they do. People need to worry about other things that are
affecting the climate and animals the most. Pollution being one of the most worrying. Thus saying that
it hurts the climate the most is not true and we shouldn t even be worried about it.

Christian Science Research Papers
Cristian Science Christian Science is an ongoing religious cult that was started in the early nineteenth
century. Mary Baker Eddy was the original founder who started the idea in the United States during
1879. After a thirty five year revision period, she finished the Christian Science textbook, Science and
Health with Key to the Scriptures. The textbook was finally published in 1875, which stated all the
beliefs of Christian Science. Some of the beliefs include the tenets of Christian Science. Each tenet
explains what a Christian Scientist believes about God, the Bible, and Jesus. The largest controversy
when it comes to Christian Science is the belief about healing and medicine. They believe that prayer
and spiritual means to heal themselves of any sickness. The concept was produced when Mary was
reading the Bible while being ill. Her idea of spiritual healing is also believed to be a large part of
redemption. If a person does not believe that God will heal them through prayer, then they are not
saved. After teaching a class her newfound belief on healing, she established a school called the
Massachusetts Metaphysical College. Many of her students became believers and were able to heal
people. It was during this time that the belief grew until the twenty first ... Show more content on

purposeful as well. It is taught that God is infinite love and good. His laws are considered good and
the only reality. With the power of God, one glimpse can overcome sin, sickness, and evil. Over all,
the belief is similar to Christianity except the spiritual healing

  • 2. Food Labeling Introduction There once was a time where words like light and low fat on food packages that had no nutritional meaning. As a result, shoppers were often led to believe they were buying products that were more helpful than they really were. Nutrition panels on labels were also confusing and hard to read. But the Australia New Zealand Authority (ANZFA) changed all that. In March 2001 the ANZFA defined new standardized terms that appear on food labels such as low fat , reduced and lean to control how food manufacturers could put their facts that are relevant to most of our dietary needs. In the novel, The Pilgrim s Progress, John Bunyan writes about a man named Christian who had a dream that led to a pilgrimage. Throughout the book, Christian meets many people who are setting out to be saved and receive eternal security. Eternal Security is a teaching that asserts that once a person is truly born again by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, nothing in Earth shall be able to separate us from the love of God, but due to a variety of different reasons they all turn around and go back home. One outstanding person that Christian encountered was Faithful. He accompanied Christian on his journey and faced many trials, but he never lost courage or gave up. When Faithful and Christian reached Vanity Fair, Faithful was murdered because of his beliefs; therefore, he will spend eternity with Jesus Christ in Heaven. • 6. Summary Of Chris Mccandless And Henry David Thoreau To some, adventurers like Chris McCandless are young, idealistic, and resolute people with high moral standards. They want to take everything they can out of life, and they want to experience every facet of it. However, this isn t a view everyone shares. To others, McCandless was an irrational kid with no experience who couldn t handle his family issues. On the other hand, Henry David Thoreau is viewed as a calm, steady, and contemplative man with a dedicated love of nature. Chris McCandless and Henry David Thoreau share many similarities, but they also have defining differences. Chris was different from Thoreau because he was running from his past whereas Thoreau wanted to go to the woods, and Chris overestimated himself whereas Thoreau was more level headed, but they were similar in that they both didn t believe in material objects. Chris went into the wild because he wanted to escape his past and because of his general hatred towards prejudice against society, while Thoreau was more positively motivated to go to the wilderness. His motivation to go to the woods was negative because he was running away from something. Although his friends and family described him as very independent and motivated to go against everything he was taught, his real motivation was because of his family struggles. Chris s father, Walt, never fully divorced his ex wife, Marcia, and he still had relations with her despite being married to Billie. When Billie found out, she was very hurt, and so were Walt and Marcia. However, to make amends, Walt finalized the divorce with Marcia. They resolved the problem and moved on. When Chris unearthed this truth, he was unbelievably upset, but he didn t address it directly. Instead, he waited years to talk about it, occasionally shunning his parents and judging them behind their backs. Chris was very self righteous, and he took every opportunity to denounce his father even though the issue of the divorce had been resolved. He expressed his anger in a very passive way, and because he never found real closure, his anger accumulated. He decided to release his anger indirectly. This is why he took classes on racial inequality, and why he was so mad about poverty in the United States. His outrage ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The way they talk about how everything works together and how dirt was the first living organism on earth was something I honestly didn t know. Normally science and religion are very different on how life began and how things came to be, it was interesting how this movie incorporated both in the story. One of the most interesting stories was the one about the guy who had the garden grow in the back of his truck while he was in the hospital. Those same temptations you may feel are also pressures for them afterall. But miss Danielle Agoglia, from Elite Daily, offers another perspective: you need to trust your partner. Letting go of all those fears and concerns and simply realizing that your partner, just like you, is in love and wants to make this work. Just like the participants in Meitzner and Li wen s study, Agoglia found she began to trust herself a lot more as she trusted her partner. Regardless, trusting your partner not only to do right by you and your relationship but also to help you when you need it can take a lot of stress off of your shoulders. Learning to really and truly trust your partner, while easier said than done is essential to a functioning long distance relationship. There is a difference between trusting support and dependency, however. It is a very important difference too. As an individual, each partner must come to terms with the distance and be able to fend for themselves. This may seem at odds with the previous two maintenance methods as it advocates for more independence from the relationship, but it is important. Unlike a lot of couples you can t live together and have separate lives and finances. This makes practical support incredibly difficult, so instead couples emotionally support each other. This is good, and should definitely be encouraged behavior. Unfortunately, some couples will become emotionally dependent. What this means is that one partner relies on the other as the source for his or her happiness. In her article on The Huffington Post, Margaret Paul discusses this issue. Three Qualities That Groups Expect From Their Leaders James Kouzes and Barry Posner (1987), authors of The Leadership Challenge , have done research concentrating on what the organization looks for and expects from their leaders. The researchers have identified four qualities that groups expect from their leaders: 1. Trustworthiness leaders must win the trust and assurance of the followers that are asked to change. The school community counts on the principal to walk the talk. Even though it might take a while for the group members to trust the new leader, when proceeding consistently with the school s mission and vision, the group s trust develops. The leader needs to give personal attention to the participants who seem ignored and respond to the needs of the individual staff members. The leaders make the individuals feel valuable and are counted on to participate and contribute to the success of the organization. This means setting aside the leadership hat and become fully engaged with the individual by sharing experiences and passions, thus, building trust and encouraging the neglected individual to gain a sense of belonging. At the same time, the individual s needs for achievement and growth are being nurtured to realize the individual s full potential (Bennis Goldsmith, 2010). Bass (1990) also mentions that at this point the leaders listen efficiently and assign responsibilities with the purpose of developing the individual. The given responsibilities are observed to see if the individual requires extra provision and to evaluate growth. Under modern capitalism the means of production, such as factories, land, and technology are controlled by a small minority who Marx called the bourgeoisie. (Giddens, A. 1997) The education system disguises this with its myth of meritocracy (Haralambos et al p 604) Cultural deprivation theorists suggest middle class children have advantage over WC, in that at an early age they are socialised and exposed to books, music and technology known as cultural capital. Although the scientific community did not fully appreciate or credit his work in his lifetime, Mendel is now considered the father of genetics. Diverso concepto de libertad fue el sustentado en la Revolución Rusa de 1917. In other words it is something that distinguishes an organization from the competitors. For a competitive advantage to be sustainable, the firm has create value creating products or services that cannot be mirrored or matched by its fellow competitors and thereby it will able to outlast for a longer period of time (Bharadwaj, S, Varadarajan, P, Fahy, J 1993) Sustainable competitive advantage entirely depends on how an organization performs in a competitive environment. Protein in the diet is essential to the maintenance of life and health. Proteins are compounds with a function that do work in the body such as facilitate reactions; however, proteins are also functional in food systems. Proteins are used for a variety of reasons such as: to create an emulsion, join pieces of meat together, form a skin on the surface of a product, and form a stable foam matrix. There are multiple methodologies implemented by scientists to determine protein concentration. One of the oldest and most commonly used methods is the Biuret method (Okutucu and others 2007). The Biuret method is a colormetric assay that utilizes a spectrophotometric change accomplished by reactions containing peptide bonds in conjunction with copper (Okutucu and others 2007; Gornall and others 1949) to determine protein concentration based on a standard reference. Thermal stability of a protein is an important factor in food systems. Heat is commonly used to cook and/or sterilize a food product for a number of reasons. Heat is used in cooking to denature the proteins present in bacteria to destroy them; however, if certain food proteins are denatured, the food product could lose its functionality. Heating can also have beneficial effects on proteins such as flavor, tenderness and digestibility (Christen and Smith 2000). Protein thermal stability is not fully understood and can be due to a host of factors such as internal folding, hydrogen bonding, electrostatic forces, and calcium affinity (Vogt and Argos 1997). There are many types of proteins that convey thermally stable properties such as malate dehydrogenase, lactate dehydrogenase, ferrodoxin, hydrolase, phosphofructokinase, and others (Vogt and Argos 1997).
