The Philosophy Of Aristotle s Philosophy
Within each of our existences, we as social creatures desire friendship/social interaction which
comforts us on the confusing journey we call life. I believe that through my interpretation of Aristotle
s philosophy, that we all have friends when seeing the world through Aristotle s philosophy. Aristotle
describes friendship as being made up of mutual feelings of good intentions between two individuals.
According to him, there are 3 different types of friendships that make up the base of social
interactions. The first out of 3 types of friendships that he talks about is Utility based friendships.
These types of friendships are based on the benefits/trading that the two individuals can gain from
each other. These are most often formed by individuals with opposite personalities. The decision
making process involved in forming these types of relationships are based on long term benefit, or
time to benefit ratio. This type of relationship is characterized as shallow, weak, and easily dissolved.
The most problems occur in this type of relationship due to the deviation in valuing one another s
service. For example, Billy and Bob are friends/roommates, Billy made a painting as a gift for Bob in
exchange for paying his half of the rent, Bob believes that while being appreciative of the painting,
that it is worth less than the price of the rent he couldn t pay and insists that Bob either starts pulling
his own weight or hits the road to find additional income and a different

How Dietary Guidelines Are Helping Americans Healthy...
1. I believe the two most important Dietary guidelines are Helping Americans Make Healthy Choices,
and increasing our consumption of vegetables, fruits, and calcium, discussed in Chapter 4. If we
continue to help Americans make healthy choices and make those choices visible, we might be able to
get more people physically active. Increasing consumptions of vegetables, fruits, and calcium will
reduce your risk of many chronic diseases, stroke, cancer, and diabetes. Calcium, fruits, and
vegetables make your body stronger and maintain your body, without them your body becomes weak.

term, used to describe the presence of some clinical pathology, which is utilized for therapy and
diagnosed by a clinician. Illness is a lay concept, used to describe when a person experiences,
biological alteration in the body. It is an individual response to physiological and psychological
stimuli. There are people who have abnormalities in the body and don t feel any illness, or people
whose tissues don t experience changes but they don t function well. I believe they can exist in the
absence of others, if you are ill, it doesn t necessarily mean you are fighting a disease. While, you
could have a disease, but don t experience illness.

A Report On Car Sharing Vehicles
with vehicles located in neighborhoods, are rented by the hour,
The current transportation market offers consumers many options for purchasing an automobile, but
fewer practical options for using a vehicle occasionally.
This contributes to several problems:
It results in inefficient use of valuable assets. Many private automobiles are used only a few hours per
week. These low annual mileage vehicles have high costs per vehicle mile.
It increases vehicle use. Because cars are expensive to own but cheap to drive, owners have the
incentive to maximize their use. This increases external costs such as traffic congestion, facility costs,
accidents and environmental impacts.
Some low income households cannot afford to drive at all, or they spend an excessive portion of their
budgets own vehicles they only need occasionally. This is a financial burden and contributes to
problems such as uninsured driving.

8.1. Environmental
Car Sharing vehicles are better than when everyone use his/her own car because it is good in fuel
efficiency and in emission levels are on the road faster in Car Sharing vehicles than in private cars.

There are many benefits to use card sharing:
Each Car Sharing vehicle replaces at least four to eight personal cars

Social Hierarchies In John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men
Traditionally, social hierarchies are how individuals are arranged based on how they act and look.
These social hierarchies are found in many species, but are the most complex in humans. Social
hierarchies are especially present in John Steinbeck s book, Of Mice and Men, which is about two
farmers trying to find work in the great depression. Throughout the book, Steinbeck challenges these
traditional social hierarchies. While some people can be higher up in the social hierarchy because of
how they were born, this does not mean that they are better people, and challenges conventional social
hierarchies by showing that they can shift. Very quickly into the book, there is a very clear binary
between the first two characters, Lennie and George. Steinbeck describes George as small and quick,
dark of face, with restless eyes and sharp, strong features (2). The other character, Lennie, Steinbeck
describes as the complete opposite: a huge man, shapeless of face, with large, pale eyes, with wide,
sloping shoulders; and he walked heavily, dragging his feet a little, the way a bear drags his paws (2).
From these descriptions, one would assume Lennie were the leader of the two because of his huge size
and power. Steinbeck disproves this, showing that it is in fact the other way ... Show more content on

Curley s wife makes it clear that she is more powerful than Crooks, saying that she could get you

powerful than Crooks, she is low on the social ladder and not very respected. Even Candy doesn t
respect her, saying that he thinks Curley s married... a tart (Steinbeck 28). Even though Curley s wife
should be higher up on the social hierarchy because of who she is married to, this is not the

Purpose: To study the long term development of speech sounds in children with cochlear implants and
to determine if there was a time at which this development reaches a point of little or no change.
Methods: Spontaneous speech samples were collected from twenty seven children who had been using
a cochlear implant for at least 8 years and had at least two speech samples available from previous
evaluations. The samples were glossed for intended words and the first 100 words were transcribed
phonetically.
Results: There was a consistent increase in accuracy of speech sound production from implantation to
4 6 years post implantation in contrast to the relative plateau seen 6 10 years postimplantation.
Clinical Implications: At 4 years post implantation, a good prognosis can be formed about speech
sound production later in life. It is vital that a child s development of speech sounds is facilitated
during the first 6 years post implantation.

The world s former heavyweight champion, Muhammad Ali was an olympic gold medalist and the

The Army And Marine Corps
Sun Tzu s military acumen resonates in the current discussion of the Marine Corps preparedness to
conduct forcible entry. The Army and Marine Corps saw significant successes utilizing forcible entry
and amphibious operations in the Pacific during WWII and the Korean War. The landing at Inchon
was arguably the Corps greatest amphibious success (Cancian, Preserving Amphibious Capabilities in
a Time of Austerity, 2012). Led by General MacArthur, Inchon remains the legacy by which future
amphibious operations are compared against. However, it is important to recognize that in the past
60+ years since Inchon, the modern militarization of both state and non state adversaries has
transformed the battlespace to utilize warfare across multiple domains. This transformation requires a
forthright Sun Tzu like comparison of Marine Corps capabilities, and the perspicacity to recognize
that our current posture along with a traditional approach to amphibious warfare is no longer effective
at countering our enemies. Given the challenges that exist across the domains of military operations,
this paper will demonstrate how based on the current concepts and amphibious capabilities, the U.S.
Marine Corps is less prepared to conduct forcible entry operations than we were during the landing at
Inchon, and subsequent liberation of Seoul. The transformation in military thought towards
employment of forces across multi domain operations battlespace is based on the current threats

Cannibalism Essay
ABSTRACT
Cannibalism is an act that is thought to be heinous and inconceivable in the minds of men. But,
contrary to what many people think, cannibalism is very much alive and still being practiced within
the continental United States of America; the thing is...the government just hasn t found out about it
yet. This report will take you through the history of cannibalism, the different types of cannibalism,
and the different cases of cannibalism.
Cannibalism is one of the strangest and most horrific American taboos. When the common person
thinks of cannibalism, a ballistic, deranged, serial killer who cuts his victims into pieces and boils
them in bloody water quickly comes to mind. Cannibalism is precisely defined as the eating of one s

in Anasazi Cannibalism? p. 1).
All cannibalism is not the same. One way to classify cannibalism is by who is eaten. There are three
ways: autocannibalism eating parts of oneself (not including common traits such as nail biting);
exocannibalism the eating of outsiders or foreigners (such as invaders or enemies); and
endocanniballism the eating of ones own social group. There are also functional types of cannibalism,
based on why someone is eaten: survival cannibalism, religious or ritual cannibalism, and dietary or
gastronomic cannibalism.
Survival cannibalism is one type of cannibalism that clearly without a doubt has occurred and is well
documented. quot;Simply put, survival cannibalism occurs when people are trapped without food in
some way in a boat adrift on the ocean, on a mountain by snowfall and resort to eating other members
of the group quot; (qtd. in The myths and perturbing realities of cannibalism p.1). The most notable
case of survival cannibalism is the case of the Donner party of 1846. A group of 90 immigrants led by
George Donner was caught in a blinding snowstorm high in the Sierra Nevada range of California in
October 1846. Survivors, who made their way out early in 1847, had been forced to resort to eating
the flesh of their comrades in order to survive. The survivors openly admitted to the media

The Statute Of Frauds Act
Statute of Frauds Analysis
The Statute of Frauds acts as a sort of life insurance for permanent or relatively long term agreements.
The portion of the Statute examined herein deals solely with transfers of real property other than a
lease of less than one year s duration and the argument is made that the Statute should be extended to
include leases less than one year s duration despite the additional required time, effort and cost. Issues
of trespassing, neglect, adverse possession and disputed arguments of sale are identified and the
effects of the notions are analyzed though the lens of the Statute s expectations and requirements for
viability. The effects of this specific portion of the Statute of Frauds will be examined in regards ...

The levels of severity attributed to these processes would be variant based on the use of the property,
the duration and severity of neglect and the reason for the neglect. It does not seem reasonable that the
owner of a property would allow their asset to fall to such a state as described above, and in the
absence of the Statute of Frauds, this neglect may occur with increased regularity, accidentally. If there
were to be an unspoken dispute over who owns the land, a dispute where in the parties associated were
not aware of a dispute (sincere verbal transfer of real property received insincerely, or vice versa), the
property may fall to neglected because each party believe it was the responsibility of the other party to
maintain. Similarly, if a property were to exist without a building or structure, but simply became
overgrown so that massive landscaping or renovation would be required to make the property
workable or buildable again because of an unnoticed property dispute, the owner of a property would
suffer if he ever decided to renovate the property to its optimal condition or sale or use. The Statute of
Frauds For transfers of real property other than a lease of less than one year s duration protects the
earth from abuse, and though instances may be uncommon, it helps better preserve her for the use and
enjoyment of future generations.

The Importance Of The Great Migration In The United States
During the Great War, industrial cities in the North and Midwest profited greatly. However due to
white men enlisting in World War I and the United States government halt on immigration from
Europe, these industrial cities experienced severe labor shortages. To fulfill these job shortages,
northern manufacturers recruited throughout the South causing what is known as The Great Migration,
where at least 500,000 African Americans moved from the South to Northern and Midwestern cities.
After the World War I, the United States should have had a time of peace and used their experiences to
break away from the old attitudes and tradition before the war, instead those who came home reverted
back to the same attitudes of racism. The tension between races increased due to the rapid ... Show

The Second Theory Of Time
The second theory of the relativity of time is used by Robert Zemeckis in the movie Back to the
Future and Back to the Future Part II. Marty travels back in time in the first movie and back to the
present time, and then in the second he goes into the future, then the present, then the past. Marty
travels through all of these different time periods which become altered every time Marty and Doc
travel in time. As they go between different time periods, Marty and Doc encounter different alternate
universes that are coexisting. Every time they go into a different year they have to be extremely
careful as if they disturb anything they will alter the future course of history. This exemplifies the idea

all of these occurred in some form. Robert took these events and placed them into the life of one man,
making it seem as if humans can go back and manipulate the past to our liking. In this case, he used
many special effects to create the reality that we can go back into time and manipulate the past to our
liking. While he does not explicitly say this, it can be assumed that he went into the past to recreate it
to fit his image of the future.
Robert also made the movie Cast Away which uses time in a different fashion than Forrest Gump. In
the movie, Chuck survives a plane crash in the middle of the ocean but is assumed to have died as he
was not found. The civilized world assumes Chuck has died and has a proper funeral for him.
However, Chuck is living on a deserted island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. In the beginning of
the movie Chuck is obsessed with time, everything must be on time and everything is run and
calculated to the second. For example, Chuck demands all of his employees be on time to the second
as he walks around with a stop watch making sure that the employees make the deadline. When he
ends up on the island he starts keeping track of time with scratches in the rocks as tally marks. After a

Sister Act Analysis
The Sister Act, a musical theatre show, written by Cheri Steinkellner and Bill Steinkellner, was a hit
musical during the late two thousand, making all the way to Broadway. It has its roots in the era of
disco, with all types of different distinctions from modern types of music, and with its plot, it also
delves into the realm of hymns and old gospel music, which all culminates into a musical theatre
extravaganza.
It being a musical, makes it hard to distinguish one genre in particular, but the overlying theme seems
to be based on late 70 s disco (as that is the setting for the musical in the first place). The line up of
instruments were: two keyboardists, a trumpet, a clarinet, a saxophone, a flute, an electric bass, drums,
and a lot of vocalists. All the woodwinds and brass instruments were covered by one guy, and a lot
more additional instrumentation was covered by the keyboardist.
Their instrumentation in the play seemed mediocre initially, but after listening to how they were able
to cooperate with one another, to create harmonies sounding so consonant was incredibly interesting,
especially with vocalists thrown in. The voices mixing with the instruments and vice versa made it
sound almost angelical . The harmonies created were also very southern gospel sounding in certain
points in the musical.
The vocalists varied from scene to scene but in total, there seemed to be about 22 vocalists in all.

Essential UI Design Practices For Every Mobile App Developer
When it comes to communicating with and accessing potential users around the globe, mobile apps
have gradually emerged to become a very important tool. Virtually everyone is talking about using,
having or sending mobile apps which have automatically become the buzzword in the mobile space. If
you are looking to create an app that will worth your users choice and time, then you must be ready to
build something that is well equipped with all necessary features and very attractive.
Alongside with User Experience (UX), you will surely need to consider developing your mobile app
with an impressive User Interface (UI). In case you do not know, this has to do with everything your
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Remember that before your app can be made available on major app stores like Google Play and
Apple Store, will have to be properly scrutinized and tested. It is advisable to use interactions, touch
gestures, and navigation systems to try out innovations.
Certain objective methods such as A/B testing and user studies may be helpful particularly if you are
seeking to try out new ideas on your own. You can use these methods to compare these components
with the initial versions of your UI. Through this means you can know which of the two versions is
simpler, more efficient, and preferable to use.
Make it look attractive
It always helps to keep the mobile UI of your app graphical. Just so you know, appearance (design)
matters much. An app designed with a more text heavy design will surely not be preferred more than a
mobile app with an enticing look. As a general rule of thumb, ensure to make use of graphics that are
appropriately sized.
In terms of your app s visual appeal, it is good to establish simple resource management but avoid
employing inappropriate graphics. Many mobile app development companies often make the mistake
of taking a one size fit most approach to enhance their app s graphics. If you want your mobile
application to look its best, then you must ensure to incorporate appropriately sized graphics
particularly those specific to the screen of the device you are developing for.

There are a multitude of characteristics that define a medieval hero and a knight should possess at

Analysis Of The Book Angles And Outcasts
The book, Angles and Outcasts, is compiled of works by hearing authors from the nineteenth century
and the twentieth century, as well as a chapter of works by authors who themselves are Deaf. Each of
these stories provides a unique perspective on deafness and how the Deaf people are seen by the rest
of the world. There is a common theme present through the nineteenth and twentieth century works;
exaggerated qualities of the Deaf person and a misfortune so great, that it overshadows anything good
or human about the person. In the nineteenth century, the Deaf people have exaggerated qualities such
as beauty or strength that are built to be something greater than human ability, but their deafness is
such a misfortune, that it negates those exaggerated qualities and often shows the deaf people as being
something other than human, an object of pity. In the twentieth century, the main theme of misfortune
being so strong that the deaf people are no longer seen as human equivalent, but rather a spectacle to
dump pity onto. In both centuries, Deaf people are written about in ways which portray them with
traits that could not be possible and shows their deafness as something deserving of such grand pity.
This is a form of oppression which we still see today, but it was much more prevalent in years past. In
the nineteenth century stories, the examples of extraordinary qualities is present in the theme of every
story. In the first and second story, Pierre and Camille and Doctor

Listening is defined as a circular response consisting of the following skills: receiving, understanding,

the listener taking note of what is said and what isn t said; this links to the understanding aspect of the

Argumentative Essay On The Voting Rights Act
It has been 52 years since the 1965 Voting Rights Act was put into action, less than a lifetime, and yet
it has been easy for the American population to look away from policy changes and ramifications
within the Act. Many people today, believe that everyone has the ability to vote if they are a citizen 18
or over, but this has not been the case ever, even in today s modern society. Still, there is a difference
between voter restriction laws before 1965, and policies in 2017. It seems as America advances into
the future, these racist policies and laws have become more subtle, gerrymandering and voter id
policies have become the new literacy tests that prevent black and marginalized voters from voting in
recent elections. Another issue that has transpired recently is the 2013 Shelby County V. Holder,
which has lifted government involvement within the Southern States, giving them the power to change
voting laws as they see fit.
One of the current arguments is if the Voting Right Act is relevant and necessary in society. Yes, it is
because racism still exists within the system. And yet, the act needs to be written in a way that
supports voter rights more than state rights, and local government rights. You can have voters without
a state, but what is a state without voters?
In order to fully understand the controversy of the Voting Rights Act, it is critical to know all of the
work that was done to get the Act off of the ground, and it is also imperative to know about the

writers are that they could not speak English, uneducated, all lived in teepees, and their medicine was
primitive. The writers that we have read about dealt with these stereotypes was by including hints and
lines that these stereotypes are false. Lullaby by Leslie Marmon Silko has a line about where the
Indians stayed showing that they did not live in teepees. In this story they lived in a boxcar shack
where the rancher let the Indians live (pg 1545). Pawn Shop by Sherman Alexie is a very short work
that demonstrates that Indians are civilized. The man in the story goes into a bar looking for all of his
friends but can not find them so he leaves after the bartender gives him a free drink for all of his
troubles. I leave, searching the streets, searching storefronts, until I walk into a pawn shop, find a
single heart beating under glass, and I know who it used to belong to, I know all of them (pg 1647).
This works demonstrates that Indians are just like normal people who go to shops, bars, and lose
people along the way that they miss dearly. 2.) Select one writer and write an extended reader
response to his/her work. Why did you like/dislike the work? Why? Lullaby by Leslie Marmon Silko
is a work that is depressing. There is real truth within it but it is saddening. The beginning of the story
a woman is remembering happier times and her family members. Jimmie, which I was not able to
identify the relationship between the women and Jimmie was being remembered and thought upon by
the women. She realizes that she should not dwell on him since he is not dead. Yet, one day a dark
blue sedan with white writing on its doors pulled up in front of the boxcar shack where the rancher let
the Indians live. A man in a khaki uniform trimmed in gold gave then a yellow piece of paper and told
them that Jimmie was dead (pg. 1545). The fact this woman found of that Jimmie was dead and she
was just telling herself that he was still alive to give herself hope is heartbreaking. I did not like the
work, the themes of death and

Analysis Of Under The Influence By Scott Russell Sanders
From a brief reading of Under the Influence , by Scott Russell Sanders, one can understand being
shamed and being condemned for actions that is not their own fault, but instead brought upon
themselves as a consequence of others. Son of an alcoholic, Sanders was a deprived man, who
believes himself a criminal. However, the crime, which he has set in stone is a debt that can truly
never be fulfilled, because the victim is already dead. To exact life into the meaning over Sander s
adversity is to invade within the depths of the man s skeleton closet; by understanding the meaning
behind inner privacy between father and son. The bond between father and son can be said as the man
s greatest fortunate or self inflicted trauma, in Sander s reality it proves to be the latter, as it latches
itself on to his son. The series of misfortune events continues delegate, not only in Sander s past
reality, but also in his present. Writing as a memoir to dead father, writing as a note to his son, and
writing as an outlet of relief can all be explained as the purposes of the narrative. However, this offsets
who it is actually to himself, as a reminder to not become his father.
Although tribulations can destroy and wreak havoc on a person, it prepares individuals to take on the
complete misery of life. The relationship between Sanders and his father cannot be considered a tragic
ending, in another way it is a fundamental part of Sanders perseverance against the grievances of daily
strife. I

The Poetry Of Langston Hughes As An African American Poet

Montage of a Dream Deferred (Holt, 1951). His life and work were tremendously vital Life is for the
living. Demise is for the dead. Give life a chance to resemble music. Also, demise a note inferred.
Langston Hughes is known as an artist of musicality and music. As an African American, he
composed much about the way of life and encounters of his race. In spite of the fact that he endured
monetarily, Hughes distributed many works that later turned out to be extremely renowned.
Subsequent to defeating a troublesome youth, Langston started composing verse in secondary school.

also wrote poems that were important to the African American literature that made in impact on
others.

Analysis On Key Value Stores Essay
Analysis on Key Value Stores
Introduction
We have come into the era of Big Data. As (Atikoglu, Xu, Frachtenberg, Jiang, Paleczny, 2012) stated,
the need for efficiently storing large scale data in scale out companies at lower cost is dramatically
increasing. Therefore Key Value Store has occurred in popularity. (Fitzpatrick, 2004) has clarified that
KV stores plays an essential role in lots of huge websites such as Facebook, Twitter, GitHub and
Amazon. This paper reviewed 6 popular key value stores and distinguished primary features,
performance and availability of each. The six systems are Hyperdex, Dynamo, SILT, Project
Voldemort used by LinkedIn, Berkeley DB and LevelDB used by Google.
A key value store database has a set of keys and values, and each value is associated with a key. The
implementation of key value store database is actually a distributed hash table (Stonebraker, 04/2010).
Key Value Stores(KV), which are normally known as a model of NoSQL databases, are widely
deployed for data operation and management in purpose of enhancing Internet services due to better
scalability, higher efficiency and more availability than existing relational databases systems (Wang, et
al., 2014). Because KV stores sacrifice relation model in exchange for fast writing, and they are often
featured with simple methods like put() , delete() and get() .
LevelDB
LevelDB is a very lightweight, simple key value store with limited operational abilities. LevelDB will

Fiercely The Red Sun Descending Burned His Way Among The...
Fiercely the Red Sun Descending Burned His Way Among the Heavens, was painted by Thomas
Moran in 1875 1876. The artist s use of contrast between very cool colors to very warm colors attracts
attention to the sun and it s brightness in the painting. The painting is vivid, yet impressionistic. The
brushstrokes from the water to the rocky mountains are quite thin and small, but those of the sun are
deep, rich, and intense. The brightness and intensity create a blinding and volcanic sun that appears to
be setting the clouds above it on fire. Moran uses darker, inky colors in the water to mute the
background for a moment and allow the viewer to experience the sun in its totality. As the viewer
moves away from the sun and back to the water, he may notice the waves are fervently crashing
against the mountain and against each other. The painting overall evokes an image of war and
vengeance. Thomas Moran was influenced by many artists and ideas, but the most important works
that influenced him were the epic poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and a singular painting by J.
M. W. Turner.

Turner s artwork. Though, Turner was truly an Englishman, he was known as American Turner by
many artists, and was admired as such. In 1862, Moran traveled to England to see and study Turner s

both the malevolence of the sun and the twist it had on the history of the painting. J.M.W. Turner
heightened the malevolence of the story by marshaling all the forces of nature a roiling, inky sea, a
livid sun, and an angry, incendiary sky creating a setting fit for the Apocalypse . With this painting and
the literature of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Moran moved to paint Fiercely the Red Sun

When you travel to Madrid, Spain you look around and you see soccer, otherwise known as futbol

and people everywhere else sit by their televisions and root on their favorite soccer club. As they cheer
on their teams, they understand the game and get into the game like one would do for football in
America. When you travel 4500 miles across the Atlantic Ocean, it s a whole different lifestyle.
America s flip their TV on and scroll through the ESPN and sports section and see nothing but
basketball, baseball, football, and occasionally a hockey game. If you are a fan of soccer though it s
obvious, you aren t going to find anything on TV having to do with it. Why must soccer be so
overlooked in the United States? Why is the world s most popular sport so cared about so little in
America? If you are talking about sports in a normal American setting, teams like the Yankees, Red

teams in the US today, but why don t we hear about teams like LA Galaxy, Real Madrid, or

The Iron Mill By Rebecca Harding Davis
In Life in the Iron Mills, Rebecca Harding Davis tells the story of Hugh Wolfe, a lower class man
whose love of beauty and desire to move up in the world ultimately leads to his mental decline and
demise. Wolfe lives in a town of smothering grey smog and works in an iron mill reminiscent of Hell,
places that induce hopelessness and despair by appearance. In contrast to his surroundings, Wolfe
possesses a fierce love of beauty and a talent of sculpting with korl, both of which are frequently
associated with higher socioeconomic classes. Initially, it appears that Davis means to reinforce the
common associations of beauty with the upper class and unseemliness with the lower class. In the
story, beauty can be associated with the upper class characters through their polished appearances and
admiration of art, inciting a positive association in response to beautiful imagery; unseemliness, on the
other hand, can be associated with the lower class and negative feelings because the mill is
reminiscent of hell and the characters are generally unattractive. However, when looked at with a
closer lens, it appears the story cannot be taken at face value and the typical feelings surrounding
beauty and ugliness do not apply in the story. Appearances can be deceiving: within Life in the Iron
Mills, ugliness represents opportunity whereas the beauty serves as a distraction. By juxtaposing
unsightly and attractive, Davis shows that mobility is possible only through unattractive, hard work

3. Generation Reliability analysis
Generation system reliability deals with the relative ability of the system to supply system load
considering that generation units may be out of service when needed due to planned or unplanned
outages or that the basic energy sources may be inadequate.
Generation system reliability, also known as generation system adequacy, is to be contrasted with
security which deals with the relative ability of the system to survive sudden shocks or upset such as
faults or equipment failures without cascading failures or loss of stability.
Mathematically, reliability is the probability that a device would perform its required function for a
specified period of time under the stated operational conditions. The ... Show more content on

The generation capacity is the sum of the power that can be produces by all generator units that are
available to produce electrical energy. These units do not have to be operational but they should have
the potential to be operational.[9]
Generator units may be unavailable due to failures, this is called forced unavailability ,or due to
preventive maintenance, this is called planned unavailability . Both types of unavailability may be
treated stochastically, but the planned unavailability is often treated deterministically.
The uncertainty in the generation capacity is then only due to failures (outages) of generator units [9].
Generating units will occasionally fail to operate and the system operator has to make sure that
enough reserve is available to be operated when this situation happens, as will be discussed in the
following subsection.
352.3 Generation Reserves
Improvements in system reliability can be achieved by using better components or incorporating
redundancy. Generation redundancy is attained by providing generating capacity above that needed for
maximum load demand and transfers. This spare capacity represents the reserve of generation
necessary to keep the risk of power shortages below an acceptable level.
The determination of the required amount of generation

A Mastopexy Case Review
A Mastopexy (breast lift) is a surgical procedure designed to lift and reshape the breasts. Following a
breast lift procedure with Dr. Nina S. Naidu, women have more youthful looking breasts and an

What a Breast Lift in Manhattan Can Accomplish
While performing a Mastopexy, Dr. Naidu raises the breasts by eliminating excess skin. She reshapes
the breasts by tightening surrounding tissue. This tightened tissue supports the new breast contour. In
addition, during a breast lift, Dr. Naidu can reduce the size of the patient s areolae (the dark colored
skin that surrounds the nipple).

President Roosevelt s Response To The Great Depression
Imagine all of a sudden being out of a job and becoming bankrupt, and your country going into a
depression. In 1929 until the late 1930 s the Great Depression took place and many countries were
affected by it, the Great Depression was an economic depression. The cause of the Great depression
was the crash of the Stock Market in 1929. The Great Depression affected the US in a way that
increased unemployment by 25% and increased the amount of homeless people. In this essay I will be
analyzing the responses of President Franklin Roosevelt s administration to the problems of the Great
Depression. I will also be talking about how effective these responses were, and how they changed the
role of the federal government. I believe that the responses to the Great Depression were very
effective in bringing the country out of the Great Depression. The reason I believe that President
Roosevelt s response to the Great Depression was very effective was because of economic measures
that he took. These measures were known as The New Deal, which were designed to help bring our
country out of the depression we were facing. Some of the things that were enacted in the New Deal,
were the Civilian Conservation Corps, the Social Security Act, the Civil Works Administration, the
enacting of the Emergency Banking Act and the rejuvenation of the Farm Credit Act. All of these
corporations and acts were made to help create jobs and rebuild the Stock Market. Some of the

The Issue Of Internet Dating

dating site you choose is entirely up to you. There have been countless horror stories recounted here

NEVER, EVER give out your personal information. I made the mistake one time of giving out my

each other comfortable, and genuinely were attracted. So we met for dinner and I kindly told her it

very nasty voice message. Mind you I sort of deserved it, but still she had no right to do this. I called
her back, and said not to call. Well she didn t answer. Day after day she would call, apologizing about
how she d overreacted. This went on for two weeks (her calling every day) and finally I had to put a
block on my phone number. Lesson learned. There are other criteria, which make up personal
information such as a home address. I have never done this. But have heard from others who

Aristotle View On Friendship
Friendship is an important asset in the world we live in, the young needs friendship to retain them
from error, older people need it to care for them and those in their prime time need it, to do fine
actions. No one would choose to live without friends because friendship is very important and it holds
cities together.
The philosopher, Aristotle quoted friendship has A single soul dwelling in two bodies. Aristotle takes
the concept of friendship to a major level. His concept of friendship is assertive and comprehensive.
Subsequently, Aristotle divided each concept into three sections or in other words three types of
friendship. He first distinguishes and contrasts the three types of friendships. More importantly
Aristotle takes into consideration that friendship is a necessity to live, however, it is not only
necessary, but also fine. He also characterizes friendship as a virtue and as just. The three different
types of friendship correspond to the three objects of love, which are, things that are useful (advantage
friendship), things that are pleasant (pleasure friendship), and finally the third, things that are good
(good friendship).
Firstly, Aristotle observed advantage friendship as a type of friendship that the friend is not loved for
his or her own sake, however, they are loved for the sake of some good obtained from the other. This
friendship does not last according to Aristotle due to the purpose that once the benefit of the good in
the friendship comes to an end, so does the friendship, in other words, their pleasure in each other no
longer goes beyond their expectations of advantage. For each individual finds the other pleasant only
to the point that each would expect some good for themselves. Individuals with these types of
friendship, take satisfaction from each other s company just for their own sake. To elaborate a more
practical name for this type of friendship would be an acquaintance. Hence such people do not find
each other advantageous, therefore they have no need to meet. This type of friendship can be seen
amongst older people, seeing that at that age they seek for what is advantageous. In brief, friendship of
utility is often between opposite people, and is based on something that

Mining and The Environment Essay examples
Introduction In our days, mining for resources is inevitable. The resources we need are valuable in
everyday life. Such resources mined up are coal, copper, gold, silver, and sand. However, mining
poses environmental risks that can degrade the quality of soil and water, which can end up effecting us
humans if not taken care of and many of the damages are irreversible once they have occurred.
History and Case Studies of Mining and the Effects on the Environment Mines pose a threat to the

These left over tailings create human and ecological health problems that can be caused from exposure
to the dust that are blown from these mine sites since metal toxicants can persist in tailing particles
(arizona.edu, 2008). Another threat to the environment is acid mine drainage (also known as acid rock
drainage). Acid mine drainage is the outflow of acidic water from a mining site. This acid is formed by
the oxidation of iron sulfide. The oxidation occurs when iron sulfide is exposed to the air or to
dissolved oxygen in the water, which causes the iron to rust and the sulfur reacts with the water to
forum sulfuric acid (Coil, D., McKittrick, E., and Higman, B., 2010). Figure 2 illustrates the sulfuric
acid that is formed. Acid mine drainage is most common with hardrock mines where metal ore is
bound together with sulfur. The increased acidity created from acid mine drainage has a series of
negative effects, depending on the severity of change in the pH level. The acid mine drainage creates
inhospitable environments to aquatic life in river systems and former mine sites, with the exception of
extremophile bacteria (Coil, D., McKittrick, E., and Higman, B., 2010). Acid mine drainage can
severely degrade the quality of the water, especially if it s a essential water supply.
Solutions There are two primary methods of preventing acid mine drainage fall. One is preventing
sulfuric acid from forming, and the other is neutralizing the acid after it forms. In

The lavenders (Lavandula) are a genus of 39 species of flowering plants in the mint family,
Lamiaceae. An Old World genus, distributed from Macaronesia (Cape Verde and Canary Islands and
Madeira) across Africa, the Mediterranean, South West Asia, Arabia, Western Iran and South East
India. It is thought the genus originated in Asia but is most diversified in its western distribution.
The genus includes annuals, herbaceous plants, subshrubs, and small shrubs. The native range extends
across the Canary Islands, North and East Africa, Southern Europe and the Mediterranean, Arabia and
India. Because the cultivated forms are planted in gardens worldwide, they are occasionally found
growing wild as garden escapees, well beyond their natural range. However, since lavender cross
pollinates easily, there are countless variations within the species. The color of the flowers of some
forms has come to be called lavender.
The leaves are long and narrow in most species. In other species they are pinnately toothed, or
pinnate, sometimes multiple pinnate and dissected. Flowers are borne in whorls, held on spikes rising
above the foliage. Flowers may be blue, violet or lilac. The calyx is tubular, with five lobes. The
corolla is often asymmetric.[1] Lavenders flourish best in dry, well drained, sandy or gravelly soils in
full sun.[2] All types need little or no fertilizer and good air circulation; in areas of high humidity, root

environmental and social issue because people expect that there will be no host for the 2022 Olympics
if the issues with the environment and pollution keep up in China. This could be a major disadvantage
towards the way the Olympics works and towards the amount of deaths caused by pollution in China.
China and the United States have many differences. This includes the general population, government,

Analysis Of Ode To Nightingale
The following findings were carried out after analysing the data in the light of given objectives:
First starting from Ode to Nightingale which is a Keats ode influenced by Greek mythology, I found
that Nightingale is a symbol of beauty, immortality and freedom from the depressing and tiresome
world. In Greek and Roman myths, Nightingale refers to Philomela. Philomela in Greek mythology is
a figure symbol used in literary and artistry works. She is identified as the daughter of king of Athens.
According to Greek mythology she was raped and after she took back her revenge she transformed
into Nightingale.
In Ode to Nightingale word as Lethe is used this refers to a river in Greece, Hades. Dryad refers to a
female spirit attached to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the same line I also found other ancient references. Beetle was regarded as a sacred figure of
resurrection and Scarabs were regarded with representation of new life.
Ode to Autumn is also loaded with the elements of Greeks. In ode to Autumn, Keats personifies
nature. In this case, Autumn is a personification of human shape sometimes works as gleaner and
some other times as a reaper etc. Keats also provided some symbols of ancient Greek deities such as
Ceres , Demeter (goddess) and Pan (demi god of wilds).
I found Keats all poems full with the themes of beauty, art and nature which were the characteristics
loved by Ancient Greeks. In this ode, metaphors which personifies the beauty of a season are also used
such as mellow , rich and splendid in the shades of Autumn scattered throughout the poem which
dwells on the idea of perceiving the

The Role Of Social Class In The 1880s
During the 1880s, access was a large problem throughout the world for social class and women. One
known sector that occurred around the 1880s was the Cinderella sector, the government created many
evening classes to allow students to gain education throughout the nights. This increased the number
of students that were in education as children would have worked all day to earn money for their
families. The government never made this a priority, but they were becoming more focused to create
elementary and secondary schools which we have today. This sector was more focused on further
education as it was aimed for students who had left education (Bailey,2002).
Lowe (2002) suggested that around the time of the 1870s, traditional universities were

Arguments In 12 Angry Men
The Arguments of 12 Angry Men In the film 12 Angry Men (1957), directed by Sidney Lumet, is a
film about a group of 12 jurors on a murder case. As the beginning of the film begins, the men are
seen entering the deliberation room to come to a consensus on the case that was assigned. In the case,
a young juvenile is being tried for the murder of his own father. If he is found guilty, the boy will be
sent to the chair and will die by execution. If he is found not guilty then he will live. As the 12 jurors
all sit down to make a beginning vote (aiming to create a unanimous consensus), only one of the men
votes that the defendant is not guilty of the presented charges. Juror #8, the opposition to everyone,
believes that there is reasonable doubt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The argument started out with juror #8 stating that he didn t know if the kid was guilty or not, he just
believed that there were a lot of holes in the case that would lead him to believe there is reasonable
doubt in the conviction. Though this seemed like a weak argument, there were many different key
points that were made to undermine the original argument. Jumping from one fact to the next, juror #8
eventually persuaded the entire group to change their vote to not guilty. Juror #8, when presenting the
various portions of his argument, always remains calm, as well as the other men who eventually join
his side. Juror #4, though on the original position, actually provides a lot of this logical approach. He
admits that the opposition makes sense and when the argument overrides his, he admits he is wrong
and changes his vote. This type of argument, when proven with ethos and pathos, is successful and
will gain logical support to win the overall

Oculocutaneous Albinism (OCA)
Oculocutaneous albinism or OCA is a set of four (or seven, including subdivisions) rare genetic
disorders that are caused by mutations in up to seven different genes and are characterized by a
complete lack or reduction of the pigment melanin in the eyes, hair, and skin. An estimated 1 in
20,000 people worldwide are born with this disorder. The conditions of OCA are caused by mutations
in genes that are responsible and necessary for producing the melanin pigment in specialized cells
(melanocytes). Not having enough of the melanin pigment can result in abnormal eye development,
resulting in vision problems, and light skin that is easily damaged by the sun, at times resulting in
different skin cancers, including an aggressive form called melanoma. Symptoms of this condition can
also include nystagmus (involuntary back and forth movement of eyes), iris transillumination (reduced
pigment in iris), reduced pigment in the retina, macular hypoplasia (poor development of the macula,
resulting in abnormal foveal development in the retina), generally poor visual sharpness, photophobia
(increased sensitivity to light), and strabismus (abnormal connection of the nerves from retina to brain,
keeping the eyes from tracking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The four main types of oculocutaneous albinism manifest differently in individuals. For example,
OCA1 is characterized by white hair, pale skin, and light colored eyes, and is caused by null mutations
of tyrosinase (TYR a protein coding gene) that end up making a completely inactive or unfinished
tyrosinase enzyme polypeptide. OCA2, the most common type of albinism, is caused by a mutation in
the P gene and is typically less severe than Type 1; the skin can be creamy white and the hair may be
blonde, yellow, or a

How I Have A Good Life
Most days I spend happily completing my homework and hanging out with my new friends and loving
family. I have a good life. Yet... There are those staggering moments, when I find myself alone, and
the memories and feelings of the past come to me with a wave of quiet emotions. It was only a few
months ago that my very best friend became my ex bestfriend. His name was, Seth Kauffman, a
student at Clayton Valley. He was not perfect, but who is? A while back, I had lost a good friend and
instead of being there for me, he bullied me, and made my life miserable... But all wounds heal, and I
gave him a second chance. We had become very close again. We traveled all over campus together,
eating flavorful food, talking about our daily adventures ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I enjoy meeting new people, but who is this boy? I wondered to myself. The boy Branden continued
spouting and Seth unenthusiastically carried the conversation along. I followed behind, to shy to
contribute to the conversation. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Branden skipped off to go find
food. Who was that? I inquired with a raised eyebrow. That was Branden Busby. He is extremely
obsessed with you. Seth flatly replied. What?! Are you serious? My mind buzzed with curiosity. Yes,
but I want you to stay away from him. He is creepy. I obeyed with the nodd of my head, and we both
walked off to class together. *** Later that night on my bed, wrapped in a soft, warm blanket I sat,
pondering How could a boy I had never seen or met before be obsessed with me? . I picked up my
smooth phone and texted my other friend the latest news. Hey guess what? I posed. Within seconds
she replied. Wot? Today I discovered that some guy I have never met is obsessed with me! What? No
way! Who? His name is Branden Busby, I guess. I don t know I just met him today I swiftly typed in
respondes. Seriously?! she asked bewilderedly. What? I know him! She blurted with excitement. He is
a super cool guy! I am going to text him right now. Can I give him your number? Um sure. I guess. I
stated hesitantly. Ok! Great brb. Then my phone was silent. I sat there in my empty

What Is Catch Me If You Can Film Techniques
In the film Catch Me If You Can, by Steven Spielberg, Carl Hanratty, is an FBI agent on the chase for
Frank Abagnale Jr. In this scene, he finds out Frank is hiding in a small town in France at a factory
writing himself cheques. He then convinces Frank to handcuff himself and turn himself into the french
officers. During this scene, Spielberg uses four main film techniques to create a theme and moods.
These techniques are, cinematography, editing, colour and lighting, and sound. Spielberg uses these
four techniques to create a mood and build suspense. The use of these techniques links to the theme
that Frank s actions will eventually have consequences because the director is making the audience
believe that Frank could get caught, meaning Frank s actions will have consequences.
The first film technique spielberg successfully uses is cinematography. Specifically, he uses close up
shots on Frank and Carl s face during their conversation about whether Carl is telling the truth and
then swears on his daughter s life. During these close ups, there is a good use of camera movement by
zooming even further into their faces. The use of this technique gives a strong effect on the audience
by showing the seriousness and emotion in the characters faces. It also shows the tension and suspense
in the room. This shows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some themes these techniques highlight in the scene are, escaping and hiding your identity, actions
will catch up with you, and throughout the film, appearances can be deceiving. Overall, throughout
Frank s arrest scene in Catch Me If You Can, Spielberg uses a combination of close up shots, low key
into high key lighting, a series of short cuts during Frank and Carl s dialogue, and background non
diegetic sound to help develop a suspenseful, tense mood, as well as create an emotional connection
between Frank and the

The Assassination of the Mayor of Castro Street Essay
The Assassination of the Mayor of Castro Street and the Consensus of the Judicial System
It was November 27th, 1978. There was a cheerful atmosphere in San Francisco s City Hall that
morning. Supervisor Harvey Milk s good mood was due to Mayor George Moscone s upcoming
announcement to the press. He was going to publicize that he had decided not to reappoint the ultra
conservative voice for the family , Dan White, back to the board of supervisors. Harvey Milk was a
fierce advocate of this political move, for he was the first openly gay elected official, and thus, the
most important political leader for homosexuals at the time. Dan White, on the other hand, enforced
family values and therefore was not someone that supported this ... Show more content on

He snuck through a window in City Hall just before the press conference was scheduled to take place,
and swiftly shot and killed both men in their own offices. He confessed to the assassinations just hours
later at the local police station.
Despite the evidence of premeditation, the obvious animosity between the assassin and the victims,
and the immediate confession, Dan White was only convicted of two counts of voluntary
manslaughter. He served five years in prison for his crime. In the context of the assassination of two
government officials, the jury s conviction is almost inconsequential. To fully understand the
implication of the term voluntary manslaughter it is necessary to distinguish the different
classifications of murder as defined by California State law. The definition of murder constitutes both
deliberation and premeditation, while voluntary manslaughter is defined as the killing of another
human spontaneously with the lack of previous planning. After staying up all night, Dan White called
his secretary and asked for a ride to City Hall, having no purpose to be in the building, due to the fact
that he was no longer employed there. He brought with him his gun, and because he brought ten extra
bullets as well he clearly had the intention of firing it. He had contemplated how to avoid the metal
detectors at the main entrance and

Weaknesses Of Government
The Weaknesses of Government Institutions
The United States of America is currently facing a crisis which grows even more dire with every
passing day. The two main parties butt head to head in what seems like all areas. This gridlock has
lead to multiple near government shutdowns, as neither political party will accept the other party s
budget. We are nearing yet another possible government shutdown, as the United States is about to hit
the debt ceiling yet again. During a government shutdown, almost all public institutions are shut
down. This includes the National Parks service, The Food and Drug Administration, as well as many
other public services.
The root of the problem is political gridlock between the republicans and the democrats. Both ... Show

At the same time they are doing possibly irreparable damage to the nation they claim to be fighting for
and love. Because they are unable to cross the aisle and make compromises with the democrats,
something which used to happen much more often as it was understood that a government works
much more efficiently and properly when it works together. The republican s favorite person (if not
the 40th President Ronald Reagan) to quote and boast about, Abraham Lincoln, an abolitionist, once
said „ A house divided against itself cannot stand , which is sad advice considering they wont even
take it. Abraham Lincoln also is quoted saying „ America will never be destroyed from the outside. If
we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves. This divisiveness causes
both the house of representatives and the congress to become incapable of passing any reform and to
be ineffective because they can not put their differences aside and focus on what really matters, which
is the country. Both parties like to claim that they will take back America and restore it to its former
glory, and they have been saying this for decades in their campaign slogans. They have yet to do it. In
fact they have brought the country to its knees and the people who „represent us continue to collect
their tax funded paychecks and cause the little guys, us, to really be between a rock and a hard

Jane Liebschutz Analysis
Doctor s Diaries showed the difficult and challenging life of doctors and how they can affect the
doctor s personal life and professional job. While watching the video, there were two occurrences that
stood out to me the most. The first example was the emotional connection a doctor can have with a
patient, and the second example was the difficulty of getting patients to open up to the doctors In the
first example, Dr. Jane Liebschutz became emotionally connected to an elderly patient who was
having surgery for the first time. The surgery involved removing some vein from the leg, some vessels
in the chest wall, and connecting them to the coronary arteries, which will help pump blood to his
heart. Before the surgery, Dr. Liebschutz met with the patient and talked with him, reassuring him that
the surgery would go well. Within six hours of performing the surgery, the patient s heart had failed
and he passed away. Getting emotional, Dr. Liebschutz cried because she had never connected with a
patient who suddenly passed away while having surgery. Especially with a patient who passed away in
front of her while she help assist during the surgery. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When a doctor loses a patient that they have become emotionally connected with, it can make their
work a lot more difficult. After losing a patient a doctor still has the workload of informing the family
about the loss and sometimes even explaining to them why things happen the way they did. They also
have the workload of continuing their daily routine work without letting their emotions mix in with
their job as they see other patients. This, I find, is a challenging task to do because a doctor has to do
their best to not let their emotions influence their work and those around them as

Assess the Reasons for the Outbreak of Revolution in...
There are many reasons that could have been considered to be the cause if for the outbreak of
revolution in February 1917. The many effects of the war proved to lead towards the revolution
because it demonstrated how hopeless the Tsar and his government were in dealing with all the
problems Russia faced. Also the ministers within the government also had a part to play in the events
leading up to the revolution as many of them advised the Tsar to resign.
The war is an event that is widely considered to be a cause of the outbreak of the February 1917
revolution, despite in 1914 it appearing as though the Tsars power and authority had increased. This is
because after Russia losing the First World War, many problems had been worsened such ... Show

Therefore, morale in Russia was not a reason why there was an outbreak of revolution in 1917.
Nevertheless, the few military successes could not make up for the shocking casualty list revealed
later on in wartime. Also, when the economic and military problems arose they could have been
tolerable for the general public if they were encouraged by the people at the top such as the Tsar but
no leadership was shown. Though this was a problem in Russia the morale in Russia was not too bad
although people did begin to focus more on taking care of themselves because of the effects of the war
on everyday life. On the other hand, the fact that central leadership was not being provided to the
Russian public, criticisms began to be pointed directly at the Tsar. Nicholas failed in being commander
in chief of the Russian armed services. He did not encourage war effort and did not prove to be the
appropriate representative for the Russian people. In addition, the fact that he took on this important
role meant that he was responsible for the wars consequences and the survival of Tsardom depended
on military success. Due to the lack of success, Nicholas II was blamed and not his generals. This was
a reason for the revolution in February 1917 to happen as it appeared to the citizens of Russia that they
did not have a strong leader, also the tsarist system s claim to the loyalty of the Russian people had
been forfeited thus

  • 2. The Philosophy Of Aristotle s Philosophy Within each of our existences, we as social creatures desire friendship/social interaction which comforts us on the confusing journey we call life. I believe that through my interpretation of Aristotle s philosophy, that we all have friends when seeing the world through Aristotle s philosophy. Aristotle describes friendship as being made up of mutual feelings of good intentions between two individuals. According to him, there are 3 different types of friendships that make up the base of social interactions. The first out of 3 types of friendships that he talks about is Utility based friendships. These types of friendships are based on the benefits/trading that the two individuals can gain from each other. These are most often formed by individuals with opposite personalities. The decision making process involved in forming these types of relationships are based on long term benefit, or time to benefit ratio. This type of relationship is characterized as shallow, weak, and easily dissolved. The most problems occur in this type of relationship due to the deviation in valuing one another s service. For example, Billy and Bob are friends/roommates, Billy made a painting as a gift for Bob in exchange for paying his half of the rent, Bob believes that while being appreciative of the painting, that it is worth less than the price of the rent he couldn t pay and insists that Bob either starts pulling his own weight or hits the road to find additional income and a different ... A Report On Car Sharing Vehicles with vehicles located in neighborhoods, are rented by the hour, The current transportation market offers consumers many options for purchasing an automobile, but fewer practical options for using a vehicle occasionally. This contributes to several problems: It results in inefficient use of valuable assets. Many private automobiles are used only a few hours per week. These low annual mileage vehicles have high costs per vehicle mile. It increases vehicle use. Because cars are expensive to own but cheap to drive, owners have the incentive to maximize their use. This increases external costs such as traffic congestion, facility costs, accidents and environmental impacts. Some low income households cannot afford to drive at all, or they spend an excessive portion of their budgets own vehicles they only need occasionally. • 5. Social Hierarchies In John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men Traditionally, social hierarchies are how individuals are arranged based on how they act and look. These social hierarchies are found in many species, but are the most complex in humans. Social hierarchies are especially present in John Steinbeck s book, Of Mice and Men, which is about two farmers trying to find work in the great depression. Throughout the book, Steinbeck challenges these traditional social hierarchies. While some people can be higher up in the social hierarchy because of how they were born, this does not mean that they are better people, and challenges conventional social hierarchies by showing that they can shift. Very quickly into the book, there is a very clear binary between the first two characters, Lennie and George. Steinbeck describes George as small and quick, dark of face, with restless eyes and sharp, strong features (2). The other character, Lennie, Steinbeck describes as the complete opposite: a huge man, shapeless of face, with large, pale eyes, with wide, sloping shoulders; and he walked heavily, dragging his feet a little, the way a bear drags his paws (2). From these descriptions, one would assume Lennie were the leader of the two because of his huge size and power. Steinbeck disproves this, showing that it is in fact the other way ... The Army and Marine Corps saw significant successes utilizing forcible entry and amphibious operations in the Pacific during WWII and the Korean War. The landing at Inchon was arguably the Corps greatest amphibious success (Cancian, Preserving Amphibious Capabilities in a Time of Austerity, 2012). Led by General MacArthur, Inchon remains the legacy by which future amphibious operations are compared against. However, it is important to recognize that in the past 60+ years since Inchon, the modern militarization of both state and non state adversaries has transformed the battlespace to utilize warfare across multiple domains. This transformation requires a forthright Sun Tzu like comparison of Marine Corps capabilities, and the perspicacity to recognize that our current posture along with a traditional approach to amphibious warfare is no longer effective at countering our enemies. Given the challenges that exist across the domains of military operations, this paper will demonstrate how based on the current concepts and amphibious capabilities, the U.S. Marine Corps is less prepared to conduct forcible entry operations than we were during the landing at Inchon, and subsequent liberation of Seoul. It does not seem reasonable that the owner of a property would allow their asset to fall to such a state as described above, and in the absence of the Statute of Frauds, this neglect may occur with increased regularity, accidentally. If there were to be an unspoken dispute over who owns the land, a dispute where in the parties associated were not aware of a dispute (sincere verbal transfer of real property received insincerely, or vice versa), the property may fall to neglected because each party believe it was the responsibility of the other party to maintain. Similarly, if a property were to exist without a building or structure, but simply became overgrown so that massive landscaping or renovation would be required to make the property workable or buildable again because of an unnoticed property dispute, the owner of a property would suffer if he ever decided to renovate the property to its optimal condition or sale or use. Sister Act Analysis The Sister Act, a musical theatre show, written by Cheri Steinkellner and Bill Steinkellner, was a hit musical during the late two thousand, making all the way to Broadway. It has its roots in the era of disco, with all types of different distinctions from modern types of music, and with its plot, it also delves into the realm of hymns and old gospel music, which all culminates into a musical theatre extravaganza. It being a musical, makes it hard to distinguish one genre in particular, but the overlying theme seems to be based on late 70 s disco (as that is the setting for the musical in the first place). The line up of instruments were: two keyboardists, a trumpet, a clarinet, a saxophone, a flute, an electric bass, drums, and a lot of vocalists. All the woodwinds and brass instruments were covered by one guy, and a lot more additional instrumentation was covered by the keyboardist. Their instrumentation in the play seemed mediocre initially, but after listening to how they were able to cooperate with one another, to create harmonies sounding so consonant was incredibly interesting, especially with vocalists thrown in. The voices mixing with the instruments and vice versa made it sound almost angelical . The harmonies created were also very southern gospel sounding in certain points in the musical. Each of these stories provides a unique perspective on deafness and how the Deaf people are seen by the rest of the world. There is a common theme present through the nineteenth and twentieth century works; exaggerated qualities of the Deaf person and a misfortune so great, that it overshadows anything good or human about the person. In the nineteenth century, the Deaf people have exaggerated qualities such as beauty or strength that are built to be something greater than human ability, but their deafness is such a misfortune, that it negates those exaggerated qualities and often shows the deaf people as being something other than human, an object of pity. In the twentieth century, the main theme of misfortune being so strong that the deaf people are no longer seen as human equivalent, but rather a spectacle to dump pity onto. In both centuries, Deaf people are written about in ways which portray them with traits that could not be possible and shows their deafness as something deserving of such grand pity. Argumentative Essay On The Voting Rights Act It has been 52 years since the 1965 Voting Rights Act was put into action, less than a lifetime, and yet it has been easy for the American population to look away from policy changes and ramifications within the Act. Many people today, believe that everyone has the ability to vote if they are a citizen 18 or over, but this has not been the case ever, even in today s modern society. Still, there is a difference between voter restriction laws before 1965, and policies in 2017. It seems as America advances into the future, these racist policies and laws have become more subtle, gerrymandering and voter id policies have become the new literacy tests that prevent black and marginalized voters from voting in recent elections. Another issue that has transpired recently is the 2013 Shelby County V. One of the current arguments is if the Voting Right Act is relevant and necessary in society. Yes, it is because racism still exists within the system. • 22. Some Of Common Misconceptions In Lullaby By Leslie Marrman... 1.)What are some of the common misconceptions about indigenous writers? In what ways do the writers we ve read play on those stereotypes? Some of the common misconceptions is that indigenous writers are that they could not speak English, uneducated, all lived in teepees, and their medicine was primitive. The writers that we have read about dealt with these stereotypes was by including hints and lines that these stereotypes are false. Lullaby by Leslie Marmon Silko has a line about where the Indians stayed showing that they did not live in teepees. In this story they lived in a boxcar shack where the rancher let the Indians live (pg 1545). Pawn Shop by Sherman Alexie is a very short work that demonstrates that Indians are civilized. The man in the story goes into a bar looking for all of his friends but can not find them so he leaves after the bartender gives him a free drink for all of his troubles. I leave, searching the streets, searching storefronts, until I walk into a pawn shop, find a single heart beating under glass, and I know who it used to belong to, I know all of them (pg 1647). This works demonstrates that Indians are just like normal people who go to shops, bars, and lose people along the way that they miss dearly. 2.) Select one writer and write an extended reader response to his/her work. Why did you like/dislike the work? Why? Lullaby by Leslie Marmon Silko is a work that is depressing. There is real truth within it but it is saddening. The beginning of the story a woman is remembering happier times and her family members. Jimmie, which I was not able to identify the relationship between the women and Jimmie was being remembered and thought upon by the women. She realizes that she should not dwell on him since he is not dead. • 23. Analysis Of Under The Influence By Scott Russell Sanders From a brief reading of Under the Influence , by Scott Russell Sanders, one can understand being shamed and being condemned for actions that is not their own fault, but instead brought upon themselves as a consequence of others. Son of an alcoholic, Sanders was a deprived man, who believes himself a criminal. However, the crime, which he has set in stone is a debt that can truly never be fulfilled, because the victim is already dead. To exact life into the meaning over Sander s adversity is to invade within the depths of the man s skeleton closet; by understanding the meaning behind inner privacy between father and son. The bond between father and son can be said as the man s greatest fortunate or self inflicted trauma, in Sander s reality it proves to be the latter, as it latches itself on to his son. The series of misfortune events continues delegate, not only in Sander s past reality, but also in his present. Writing as a memoir to dead father, writing as a note to his son, and writing as an outlet of relief can all be explained as the purposes of the narrative. However, this offsets who it is actually to himself, as a reminder to not become his father. Although tribulations can destroy and wreak havoc on a person, it prepares individuals to take on the complete misery of life. The relationship between Sanders and his father cannot be considered a tragic ending, in another way it is a fundamental part of Sanders perseverance against the grievances of daily strife. I ... As (Atikoglu, Xu, Frachtenberg, Jiang, Paleczny, 2012) stated, the need for efficiently storing large scale data in scale out companies at lower cost is dramatically increasing. Therefore Key Value Store has occurred in popularity. (Fitzpatrick, 2004) has clarified that KV stores plays an essential role in lots of huge websites such as Facebook, Twitter, GitHub and Amazon. This paper reviewed 6 popular key value stores and distinguished primary features, performance and availability of each. The six systems are Hyperdex, Dynamo, SILT, Project Voldemort used by LinkedIn, Berkeley DB and LevelDB used by Google. A key value store database has a set of keys and values, and each value is associated with a key. The implementation of key value store database is actually a distributed hash table (Stonebraker, 04/2010). Key Value Stores(KV), which are normally known as a model of NoSQL databases, are widely deployed for data operation and management in purpose of enhancing Internet services due to better scalability, higher efficiency and more availability than existing relational databases systems (Wang, et al., 2014). • 26. Fiercely The Red Sun Descending Burned His Way Among The... Fiercely the Red Sun Descending Burned His Way Among the Heavens, was painted by Thomas Moran in 1875 1876. The artist s use of contrast between very cool colors to very warm colors attracts attention to the sun and it s brightness in the painting. The painting is vivid, yet impressionistic. The brushstrokes from the water to the rocky mountains are quite thin and small, but those of the sun are deep, rich, and intense. The brightness and intensity create a blinding and volcanic sun that appears to be setting the clouds above it on fire. Moran uses darker, inky colors in the water to mute the background for a moment and allow the viewer to experience the sun in its totality. As the viewer moves away from the sun and back to the water, he may notice the waves are fervently crashing against the mountain and against each other. The painting overall evokes an image of war and vengeance. Thomas Moran was influenced by many artists and ideas, but the most important works that influenced him were the epic poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and a singular painting by J. M. W. Turner. The Iron Mill By Rebecca Harding Davis In Life in the Iron Mills, Rebecca Harding Davis tells the story of Hugh Wolfe, a lower class man whose love of beauty and desire to move up in the world ultimately leads to his mental decline and demise. Wolfe lives in a town of smothering grey smog and works in an iron mill reminiscent of Hell, places that induce hopelessness and despair by appearance. In contrast to his surroundings, Wolfe possesses a fierce love of beauty and a talent of sculpting with korl, both of which are frequently associated with higher socioeconomic classes. Initially, it appears that Davis means to reinforce the common associations of beauty with the upper class and unseemliness with the lower class. In the story, beauty can be associated with the upper class characters through their polished appearances and admiration of art, inciting a positive association in response to beautiful imagery; unseemliness, on the other hand, can be associated with the lower class and negative feelings because the mill is reminiscent of hell and the characters are generally unattractive. However, when looked at with a closer lens, it appears the story cannot be taken at face value and the typical feelings surrounding beauty and ugliness do not apply in the story. Appearances can be deceiving: within Life in the Iron Mills, ugliness represents opportunity whereas the beauty serves as a distraction. By juxtaposing unsightly and attractive, Davis shows that mobility is possible only through unattractive, hard work ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Generation Reliability analysis Generation system reliability deals with the relative ability of the system to supply system load considering that generation units may be out of service when needed due to planned or unplanned outages or that the basic energy sources may be inadequate. Generation system reliability, also known as generation system adequacy, is to be contrasted with security which deals with the relative ability of the system to survive sudden shocks or upset such as faults or equipment failures without cascading failures or loss of stability. Mathematically, reliability is the probability that a device would perform its required function for a specified period of time under the stated operational conditions. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The generation capacity is the sum of the power that can be produces by all generator units that are available to produce electrical energy. These units do not have to be operational but they should have the potential to be operational.[9] Generator units may be unavailable due to failures, this is called forced unavailability ,or due to preventive maintenance, this is called planned unavailability . Both types of unavailability may be treated stochastically, but the planned unavailability is often treated deterministically. The uncertainty in the generation capacity is then only due to failures (outages) of generator units [9]. Generating units will occasionally fail to operate and the system operator has to make sure that enough reserve is available to be operated when this situation happens, as will be discussed in the following subsection. 352.3 Generation Reserves Improvements in system reliability can be achieved by using better components or incorporating redundancy. Generation redundancy is attained by providing generating capacity above that needed for maximum load demand and transfers. This spare capacity represents the reserve of generation necessary to keep the risk of power shortages below an acceptable level. The determination of the required amount of generation ... Aristotle View On Friendship Friendship is an important asset in the world we live in, the young needs friendship to retain them from error, older people need it to care for them and those in their prime time need it, to do fine actions. No one would choose to live without friends because friendship is very important and it holds cities together. The philosopher, Aristotle quoted friendship has A single soul dwelling in two bodies. Aristotle takes the concept of friendship to a major level. His concept of friendship is assertive and comprehensive. Subsequently, Aristotle divided each concept into three sections or in other words three types of friendship. He first distinguishes and contrasts the three types of friendships. More importantly Aristotle takes into consideration that friendship is a necessity to live, however, it is not only necessary, but also fine. He also characterizes friendship as a virtue and as just. The three different types of friendship correspond to the three objects of love, which are, things that are useful (advantage friendship), things that are pleasant (pleasure friendship), and finally the third, things that are good (good friendship). Firstly, Aristotle observed advantage friendship as a type of friendship that the friend is not loved for his or her own sake, however, they are loved for the sake of some good obtained from the other. This friendship does not last according to Aristotle due to the purpose that once the benefit of the good in the friendship comes to an end, so does the friendship, in other words, their pleasure in each other no longer goes beyond their expectations of advantage. For each individual finds the other pleasant only to the point that each would expect some good for themselves. Individuals with these types of friendship, take satisfaction from each other s company just for their own sake. To elaborate a more practical name for this type of friendship would be an acquaintance. Hence such people do not find each other advantageous, therefore they have no need to meet. This type of friendship can be seen amongst older people, seeing that at that age they seek for what is advantageous. In brief, friendship of utility is often between opposite people, and is based on something that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This acid is formed by the oxidation of iron sulfide. The oxidation occurs when iron sulfide is exposed to the air or to dissolved oxygen in the water, which causes the iron to rust and the sulfur reacts with the water to forum sulfuric acid (Coil, D., McKittrick, E., and Higman, B., 2010). Figure 2 illustrates the sulfuric acid that is formed. Acid mine drainage is most common with hardrock mines where metal ore is bound together with sulfur. The increased acidity created from acid mine drainage has a series of negative effects, depending on the severity of change in the pH level. The acid mine drainage creates inhospitable environments to aquatic life in river systems and former mine sites, with the exception of extremophile bacteria (Coil, D., McKittrick, E., and Higman, B., 2010). • 44. Arguments In 12 Angry Men The Arguments of 12 Angry Men In the film 12 Angry Men (1957), directed by Sidney Lumet, is a film about a group of 12 jurors on a murder case. As the beginning of the film begins, the men are seen entering the deliberation room to come to a consensus on the case that was assigned. In the case, a young juvenile is being tried for the murder of his own father. If he is found guilty, the boy will be sent to the chair and will die by execution. If he is found not guilty then he will live. As the 12 jurors all sit down to make a beginning vote (aiming to create a unanimous consensus), only one of the men votes that the defendant is not guilty of the presented charges. Juror #8, the opposition to everyone, believes that there is reasonable doubt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The argument started out with juror #8 stating that he didn t know if the kid was guilty or not, he just believed that there were a lot of holes in the case that would lead him to believe there is reasonable doubt in the conviction. Though this seemed like a weak argument, there were many different key points that were made to undermine the original argument. Jumping from one fact to the next, juror #8 eventually persuaded the entire group to change their vote to not guilty. Juror #8, when presenting the various portions of his argument, always remains calm, as well as the other men who eventually join his side. Juror #4, though on the original position, actually provides a lot of this logical approach. He admits that the opposition makes sense and when the argument overrides his, he admits he is wrong and changes his vote. This type of argument, when proven with ethos and pathos, is successful and will gain logical support to win the overall ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Oculocutaneous Albinism (OCA) Oculocutaneous albinism or OCA is a set of four (or seven, including subdivisions) rare genetic disorders that are caused by mutations in up to seven different genes and are characterized by a complete lack or reduction of the pigment melanin in the eyes, hair, and skin. An estimated 1 in 20,000 people worldwide are born with this disorder. The conditions of OCA are caused by mutations in genes that are responsible and necessary for producing the melanin pigment in specialized cells (melanocytes). Not having enough of the melanin pigment can result in abnormal eye development, resulting in vision problems, and light skin that is easily damaged by the sun, at times resulting in different skin cancers, including an aggressive form called melanoma. Symptoms of this condition can also include nystagmus (involuntary back and forth movement of eyes), iris transillumination (reduced pigment in iris), reduced pigment in the retina, macular hypoplasia (poor development of the macula, resulting in abnormal foveal development in the retina), generally poor visual sharpness, photophobia (increased sensitivity to light), and strabismus (abnormal connection of the nerves from retina to brain, keeping the eyes from tracking ... OCA2, the most common type of albinism, is caused by a mutation in the P gene and is typically less severe than Type 1; the skin can be creamy white and the hair may be blonde, yellow, or a ... There are those staggering moments, when I find myself alone, and the memories and feelings of the past come to me with a wave of quiet emotions. It was only a few months ago that my very best friend became my ex bestfriend. His name was, Seth Kauffman, a student at Clayton Valley. He was not perfect, but who is? A while back, I had lost a good friend and instead of being there for me, he bullied me, and made my life miserable... But all wounds heal, and I gave him a second chance. We had become very close again. We traveled all over campus together, eating flavorful food, talking about our daily adventures ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I enjoy meeting new people, but who is this boy? I wondered to myself. The boy Branden continued spouting and Seth unenthusiastically carried the conversation along. I followed behind, to shy to contribute to the conversation. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Branden skipped off to go find food. Who was that? I inquired with a raised eyebrow. That was Branden Busby. He is extremely obsessed with you. Seth flatly replied. What?! Are you serious? My mind buzzed with curiosity. Yes, but I want you to stay away from him. He is creepy. I obeyed with the nodd of my head, and we both walked off to class together. *** Later that night on my bed, wrapped in a soft, warm blanket I sat, pondering How could a boy I had never seen or met before be obsessed with me? . I picked up my smooth phone and texted my other friend the latest news. Hey guess what? I posed. Within seconds she replied. Wot? Today I discovered that some guy I have never met is obsessed with me! What? No way! Who? His name is Branden Busby, I guess. I don t know I just met him today I swiftly typed in respondes. Seriously?! she asked bewilderedly. What? I know him! She blurted with excitement. He is a super cool guy! I am going to text him right now. Can I give him your number? Um sure. I guess. What Is Catch Me If You Can Film Techniques In the film Catch Me If You Can, by Steven Spielberg, Carl Hanratty, is an FBI agent on the chase for Frank Abagnale Jr. In this scene, he finds out Frank is hiding in a small town in France at a factory writing himself cheques. He then convinces Frank to handcuff himself and turn himself into the french officers. During this scene, Spielberg uses four main film techniques to create a theme and moods. These techniques are, cinematography, editing, colour and lighting, and sound. Spielberg uses these four techniques to create a mood and build suspense. The use of these techniques links to the theme that Frank s actions will eventually have consequences because the director is making the audience believe that Frank could get caught, meaning Frank s actions will have consequences. The first film technique spielberg successfully uses is cinematography. Specifically, he uses close up shots on Frank and Carl s face during their conversation about whether Carl is telling the truth and then swears on his daughter s life. During these close ups, there is a good use of camera movement by zooming even further into their faces. The use of this technique gives a strong effect on the audience by showing the seriousness and emotion in the characters faces. It also shows the tension and suspense in the room. This shows ... There was a cheerful atmosphere in San Francisco s City Hall that morning. Supervisor Harvey Milk s good mood was due to Mayor George Moscone s upcoming announcement to the press. He was going to publicize that he had decided not to reappoint the ultra conservative voice for the family , Dan White, back to the board of supervisors. Harvey Milk was a fierce advocate of this political move, for he was the first openly gay elected official, and thus, the most important political leader for homosexuals at the time. He snuck through a window in City Hall just before the press conference was scheduled to take place, and swiftly shot and killed both men in their own offices. He confessed to the assassinations just hours later at the local police station. Despite the evidence of premeditation, the obvious animosity between the assassin and the victims, and the immediate confession, Dan White was only convicted of two counts of voluntary manslaughter. He served five years in prison for his crime. In the context of the assassination of two government officials, the jury s conviction is almost inconsequential. To fully understand the implication of the term voluntary manslaughter it is necessary to distinguish the different classifications of murder as defined by California State law. The definition of murder constitutes both deliberation and premeditation, while voluntary manslaughter is defined as the killing of another human spontaneously with the lack of previous planning. After staying up all night, Dan White called his secretary and asked for a ride to City Hall, having no purpose to be in the building, due to the fact that he was no longer employed there. He brought with him his gun, and because he brought ten extra bullets as well he clearly had the intention of firing it. He had contemplated how to avoid the metal detectors at the main entrance and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The two main parties butt head to head in what seems like all areas. This gridlock has lead to multiple near government shutdowns, as neither political party will accept the other party s budget. We are nearing yet another possible government shutdown, as the United States is about to hit the debt ceiling yet again. During a government shutdown, almost all public institutions are shut down. This includes the National Parks service, The Food and Drug Administration, as well as many other public services. The republican s favorite person (if not the 40th President Ronald Reagan) to quote and boast about, Abraham Lincoln, an abolitionist, once said „ A house divided against itself cannot stand , which is sad advice considering they wont even take it. Abraham Lincoln also is quoted saying „ America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves. This divisiveness causes both the house of representatives and the congress to become incapable of passing any reform and to be ineffective because they can not put their differences aside and focus on what really matters, which is the country. Both parties like to claim that they will take back America and restore it to its former glory, and they have been saying this for decades in their campaign slogans. They have yet to do it. • 50. Jane Liebschutz Analysis Doctor s Diaries showed the difficult and challenging life of doctors and how they can affect the doctor s personal life and professional job. While watching the video, there were two occurrences that stood out to me the most. The first example was the emotional connection a doctor can have with a patient, and the second example was the difficulty of getting patients to open up to the doctors In the first example, Dr. Jane Liebschutz became emotionally connected to an elderly patient who was having surgery for the first time. The surgery involved removing some vein from the leg, some vessels in the chest wall, and connecting them to the coronary arteries, which will help pump blood to his heart. Before the surgery, Dr. Liebschutz met with the patient and talked with him, reassuring him that the surgery would go well. Within six hours of performing the surgery, the patient s heart had failed and he passed away. Getting emotional, Dr. Liebschutz cried because she had never connected with a patient who suddenly passed away while having surgery. Especially with a patient who passed away in front of her while she help assist during the surgery. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 52. Assess the Reasons for the Outbreak of Revolution in... There are many reasons that could have been considered to be the cause if for the outbreak of revolution in February 1917. The many effects of the war proved to lead towards the revolution because it demonstrated how hopeless the Tsar and his government were in dealing with all the problems Russia faced. Also the ministers within the government also had a part to play in the events leading up to the revolution as many of them advised the Tsar to resign. The war is an event that is widely considered to be a cause of the outbreak of the February 1917 revolution, despite in 1914 it appearing as though the Tsars power and authority had increased. Therefore, morale in Russia was not a reason why there was an outbreak of revolution in 1917. Nevertheless, the few military successes could not make up for the shocking casualty list revealed later on in wartime. Also, when the economic and military problems arose they could have been tolerable for the general public if they were encouraged by the people at the top such as the Tsar but no leadership was shown. Though this was a problem in Russia the morale in Russia was not too bad although people did begin to focus more on taking care of themselves because of the effects of the war on everyday life. On the other hand, the fact that central leadership was not being provided to the Russian public, criticisms began to be pointed directly at the Tsar. Nicholas failed in being commander in chief of the Russian armed services. He did not encourage war effort and did not prove to be the appropriate representative for the Russian people. In addition, the fact that he took on this important role meant that he was responsible for the wars consequences and the survival of Tsardom depended on military success. Due to the lack of success, Nicholas II was blamed and not his generals. This was a reason for the revolution in February 1917 to happen as it appeared to the citizens of Russia that they did not have a strong leader, also the tsarist system s claim to the loyalty of the Russian people had been forfeited thus ...
