Nurse Shortage Plan
The problem of nurse shortage is not new to healthcare. Moreover, it becomes burning in critical
and intensive care units where the workload is high, and nurses observe an increased risk of
burnout (Pastores Kvetan, 2015). Nurse shortage has a negative impact not only on nurses
themselves. It also influences patients and can lead to negative patient outcomes due to less
attention that a nursegives to a patient (Ferrer et al., 2014). Therefore, there is a need for a strategic
plan to address nurse shortage and thus contribute both to nurse retention and improved patient
outcomes. The purpose of this paper is to present a strategic plan of an intervention aimed at
reduction of nurse shortage in intensive and critical care units.

Another strength comprises flexible internal policies which can be altered to provide nurses with
better work conditions. At the same time, such weaknesses as the lack of trained nurse managers
and poor planning of workload slow down the possible improvements. The organization is open to
new opportunities. Thus, it supports the use of health IT such as electronic health record to make
the work of nurses less loaded. Moreover, the organization is interested in continuous nurse
education, which is beneficial both for nurse employees and the organization itself since it will get
well trained professionals. Finally, the organization is ready to review scheduling policies to reduce
nurse fatigue and burnout. Still, there are some threats that can prevent the project implementation.
There still is a high risk of burnout because of the necessity to work in shifts and working extra
hours. Moreover, the lack of effective nurse leaders may not allow change

Biography Of Alexander John Greenslade And Lady Mary Capelle
Alexander John Greenslade, Stepney, London, 1885. I was born to Lord John Greenslade and
Lady Mary Capelle. In my early years, me and my kin took residency in Millbank road; walking
distance from both the Palace of Westminster and Buckingham Palace.
We lived in a white bricked mansion: five stories tall; a small porters lodge just outside the front
door; white and gold incrusted foyer centred around a carpeted marble staircase, a glittering
chandelier hanging from The Creation of Adam on the ceiling. The lower few floors there were
full with an extensively lavish state dining room, drawing rooms, art galleries, studies and libraries,
all challenging the opulence of even Queen Victoria s palaces. On the top floor, private apartments

A young mother and son, both dirty and worn, walked down the depressed street. As our carriage
wheeled by, the boy and I managed to look at each other directly in the eyes. Just from the
bloodshot brown eyes, I saw the worry of a hundred grown men thrown onto his shoulders.
Why is everything here so awful? I asked my father. Both my parents faced me, their heads held
high.
These people are not like us; they come of unfortunate bloodlines. Born into a poor family, and will
stay that way until they die. They said, splitting up the sentences.
That s sad,
Listen; they are none of your concern. They live their lives, and we live ours. My mother snapped
Enough of this somber talk, we are nearly at Hyde Park. Father chimed in.
We made our way out of the slums, returning to the vicinity of the palace. The horses drew us
around Kensington Palace and the Russian embassy. Past Round Pond stood the Crystal Palace. A
magnificent building, made almost wholly of glass, was erected by the river running through the
park. Millions of 10 by 50 inch glass panes, all held together by iron reinforcements; reaching 170
feet high. Thousands of people surrounded the palace s fountains and parks.
The carriage slowed to a halt outside of the transparent doors. The family strode into the emporium.

Compare And Contrast The Spanish And Aztecs
The Aztec and Spanish were both some of the strongest nations in the place they inhabited. The
Spanish went to war to collect territory for their homeland in Spain. The Aztec went to war to
please their gods and collect prisoners to sacrifice. The Spanish war strategies were for taking over
the land they desired without war, but if it came to it they would fight. The weapons that both
nations used were very dangerous, but were well suited for what they nation needed them for. The
Aztecweapons were mostly for capturing prisoners. The Spanish weapons were used mostly for
killing and were very durable. The Aztec and Spanish both had different reasons for going to war

Warfare was a part of Aztec life, the Aztecs went to war so that could capture people to sacrifice
to their beloved gods. They believed if they did not sacrifice people the gods would get angry
and the world would end. Other reasons to go to war were that they could expand their territory,
and collect resources. The Aztec threw scattered wooden spears to disperse the enemy troops,
come in and knock out the dispersed enemy warriors. The Spanish had a very different approach to
war the Spanish tried to peacefully negotiate and discover the most powerful. When the Spanish
found the strongest colony they would kidnap their leader and make him do their bidding, if the
leader would not listen they would threaten to kill him. If things did not work out peacefully the
conquistadors would fight on open ground where they have an advantage. The tactics and strategy
so that the Spanish and Aztec used were very different, but the Spanish had many superior weapons,
tactics, and focused more on killing rather than capturing. All of these reasons are why the Aztec

The Music That Transformed A Hidden Classic Into Modern...
The Music That Transformed a Hidden Classic into Modern Culture Le FantГґme de l OpГ©ra, a
fictional novel published in 1911, by Gaston Leroux, puts the reader right in the catacombs of the
Paris Opera House in the late 1800s (Cox: Oxford Reference). An adventure, involving tragic love
and gothic elements, surrounds a detective s search to reveal the mystery of the Phantom of the
Opera. The detective acts as the narrator who reflects on his investigations of the Paris Opera House
through allusions and the tragedies that occur throughout the novel s entirety. Leroux especially
highlights the Phantom s undying love for a woman named Christine Daae and displaying the most
primitive feeling towards another. The novel itself has inspired... Show more content on

She argues that adaptations are a continuous development of culture and that with adaptations, we
seem to desire the repetition as much as the change ; however, she argues that a work is
transformed (Hutcheon 9). Her valuable points about the rationale of adaptation work is the
underlying argument in the continuation of making original works more valuable and in The
Phantom of the Opera, music does just that. When the musical was adapted from the novel, it
heavily maintained the idea that music was the central theme within the novel s allusions and
metaphors. Music is an emotionally charged realm and can evoke the most powerful of emotions
if done well. The original text of the novel is merely highlighted with the use of the composed
soundtrack by Webber. Webber s adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera is one of the most ideal
examples of this phenomenal skill of leaving an original story completely rendered into a product
seeping with art. It is important to note when referencing adaptations that the first definition that
appears when one looks up adaptation into the Oxford Reference dictionary are a variety of
definitions that range from just about everything from an adaptation of a book to an adaptation of a
recipe. This being noted, one can assume that an adaptation is any sort of adjustment to an original
piece of work. However, Hutcheon references Walter Benjamin, a German cultural critic, where he
states that

Photo Ethnography
My photo ethnography is based off my experience at a church in Olive Branch, Mississippi. The
name of it is Saint Luke Church of God in Christ. Saint Luke is pastored by Elder Earl Shannon,
is located in the beautiful city of Olive Branch, Mississippi. They offer a big selection of
ministries designed to meet the needs of families in the Olive Branch area. Saint Luke is also
nicknamed, The Ark of the Community . Saint Luke has a long history dating back to 1925. In

Perhaps it was because I m Catholic and not Pentecostal. Everyone in the sanctuary was moving
around and socializing. Members of the church walked to the front of the altar and praised by
the means of the Holy Spirit. It was a lot the different than my church but it was really a great
experience. The members of the church raise their hands, kneel to god, and speak in tongues.
Speaking in tongues simply means speaking to God in a way that they don t understand
themselves because the Holy Spirit fills their body. Another thing that was different about this
church was the choir. Their choir was amazing and every selection they sung made me feel good
inside. I got chills from some of the notes they hit. This church was very prompt and orderly. It
started with a prayer from one of the Deacons of the church. The deacon openly asked the
congregation for prayer requests and testimonies. One young lady gave a testimony about how
she wanted to thank God for letting her see another day and healing her from cancer. It was also
a special service honoring the Olive Branch Police Department. I ve never seen anything like that
during a church service, it was really amazing and touching. Another thing they did that was
uncommon to me was an altar call. Towards the end of the service Elder Shannon called for an
altar call. Altar call is when the members of the church go up to the altar for prayer.

Deep Ecology And Environmental Pragmatism
The concept of sustainability is becoming an ever more relevant and popular ideology today. Many
college campuses take great pride in their sustainability, they take many steps to ensure that their
garbage output, water usage and other various items are sustainable or working towards that goal.
In areas outside of the college camps setting however, sustainabilityis often hard to reach due to a
wide array of concepts, including deep ecologyand environmental pragmatism. I believe the two
key points (of the 8) behind deep ecology is that humans have no right to reduce the richness and
diversity of our natural resources, and that human interference with the non human world is
excessive (Naess 3). Simply put, deep ecology is a push back against our over use of resources, with
a goal to hardly use them at all. This concept occasionally goes together with the view held by many
on environmental pragmatism, but the two often collide with each other. Environmental
pragmatism involves the basic concept that humans are part of the environment and that this must
be taken into account with its management(Light 3). This means that humans historical and cultural
uses of the land must be taken into account with its management, even if it is not the best option for
the land management. These two perspectives can come together to create a more sustainable
environment, but they more often have very extreme differences of how to manage an area, and
this is when wicked problems can

The Theory Of Keynesian Economics
Introduction
During the Great Depression in the 1930 s classical theory had difficulty in explaining why the
depression kept getting worse (Cheung, n.d., para. 1). Many economists have attempted to develop
theories that help to explain changing circumstances and why things kept getting worse. John
Maynard Keynes, a British economist also known as the founder of macroeconomics, saw this as an
opportunity and began to develop alternative ideas. His alternative ideas led to the idea of
Keynesian economics.
What is Keynesian Economics? Keynesian economics was used to manage the economy for
roughly forty years until around 1970. The main plank of Keynes s theory, which has come to bear
his name, is the asser tion that aggregate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
3). In order for there to be full employment or lower unemployment
rates the demand of goods needed to remain constant. In order for demand to increase it had to
come from the economy s output of goods and services. An economy s output of goods and services
is the sum of four components: consumption, investment, government purchases, and net exports
(the difference between what a country sells to and buys from foreign countries) (Jahan et al., 2014,
para. 4). If savings was more than that of investments, there would be inflation. On the other hand,
Keynes stated that if more went into investments than savings there would be a recession in the
economy. This would mean that consumers would spend less, causing businesses to invest less in
the market. Other well known economist, such as Adam Smith who felt that government should
play no role in the market, Keynes felt that state intervention was the solution to this problem.
According to Keynes, state intervention was necessary to moderate the booms and busts in eco
nomic activity, otherwise known as the business cycle (Jahan et al., 2014, para. 4). Keynesian felt
that state intervention would promote full employment and price stability and more specifi cally,
governments should borrow money and boost demand by pushing the money into the economy.
Once the economy recovered, and was expanding again, governments should pay back the loans

Choosing the Wrong Pricing Strategy Can Be a Costly Mistake
Published : June 04, 2003 in Knowledge@Wharton
Prices have been at the center of human interaction ever since traders in ancient Mesopotamia our
modern day Iraq began keeping records. Who doesn t love to guess what something costs or argue
about what something ought to cost?
So it should come as no surprise that companies spend a lot of time figuring out how to price their
products and services. But two professors in Wharton s marketing department, Jagmohan S. Raju
and Z. John Zhang, say firms do not always go about pricing ... Show more content on

You have to lay out the scenarios: If I do this, the competition will react a certain way. If the
competition doesn t react that way, then you have to have another plan ready. You cannot afford
to fall behind your competition. Pricing can be thought of in any number of ways. One
approach is a simple cost plus strategy: You figure out what it costs to produce an item and tack
on a nice profit margin. Another approach is to conduct research to determine what customers
are willing to pay for your product ($200 for a tiny bottle of perfume, for example) and set the
price accordingly. Another method is competition based pricing, whereby a company figures out
what its competitors are charging, then adjusts its prices up or down. All of these approaches
make some sense, but none alone is sufficient, says Zhang. With pricing strategies, the whole
really is greater than the sum of its parts. A classic example of how developing the right pricing
strategy can spell the difference between profit mediocrity and profit stardom occurred at Ford
Motor in the 1990s. For years, Ford, like other auto makers, tried to hold prices as low as
possible on entry level cars, such as Escorts. Low prices represented an attempt to attract young
buyers, with the hope that as they grew older and needed bigger vehicles they would remain loyal to

In the Heart of the Sea
In the Heart of the Sea The novel In the Heart of the Sea: The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex,
by Nathaniel Philbrick, successfully tells the story of the whale ship Essex that was attacked by
a sperm whale 1,500 nautical miles west of the Galapagos, 40 miles south of the equator. Many
people know this as the story of Moby Dick , which was based off this event. The novel highlights
three themes: man versus nature, survival, and suffering. The novel starts out in the town of
Nantucket, an island off the eastern coast of New England. Nantucket, at this time, is known as
one of the most successful whaling ports. Docked on the port was the famous Essex, a 20 year
whaling boat. The Essex is the pride of Nantucket. It is 87 feet long,... Show more content on

In chapter 5, on November 20, the crew spots whales 40 miles south of the equator. Chase and
his crew go after a whale, which destroys their boat with its tail. When they bring their boat back
to the Essex, they spot a huge sperm whale near the bow of the ship calmly and quietly floating
along the surface of the water. The whale began to move quickly towards the ship. The men try
to steer Essex away from the whale, but are unsuccessful. The whale rams the ship with its head,
and the men are amazed. After the whale revives itself, it struck the ship again, causing the Essex
to sink bow first. The men board their whaleboats after a night of preparation of leaving the Essex.
They stripped the sails of the ship and attached them to their boats. The waves splashed over the
boat, causing the work to be more difficult. The next morning, the boats take off. Chase and Pollard
talk of where to go now that their ship has sunk. They speak about going to the Galapagos Islands,
but Pollard noticed the wind direction would not allow them to go there. Next, they speak about the
Marquesas, in the west. The men had heard that the inhabitants of the island were cannibals. South
of the Marquesas were the Tauamotu Archipelago Islands, but the men had also heard that the
islands have a bad reputation. In this conversation, we notice the colonist s outlook on the
unknown. They share a sense of togetherness within each other and no one else. We see this in the

Rhetorical Analysis Of Dorothy Samuels Wrong On Gun Rights
The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution entitles citizens the right to possess and
bear arms; which has continually been an important issue for decades. Gun control is not just one
concern, but rather many, within a common category. One may consider gun control a crime
issue, while to others it may be a rights issue. Inside each and every issue, there are particular
people who want more gun control legislation, and those who want less. Dorothy Samuels does a
phenomenal job of portraying her stand on gun control through the use of ethos, logos, and pathos,
in her article, Wrong on Gun Rights . Samuels utilizes the rhetorical strategies in order to persuade
the audience into agreeing with her views. Dorothy Samuels view on gun control is illustrated in a
handful of ways in the article Wrong on Gun Rights . Her first important point informs and educates
her audience of the hazards of courts permitting second amendment rights as well as revoking bans
on guns. This point was also used to mention and elaborate on lawsuits involving the misuse of
guns, which were handled by the courts. Another significant point Samuels made was that US

This process is continued for selecting the best model for all the new stations (201 to 275). The
R software package is used for this purpose. The extracted best models for the new stations are
stored in .csv file. In some cases, the prediction result is negative or it exceeds the maximum
limit of the bikes that can be parked in a station. This can be overcome by adding a constraint
such that whenever the result is negative, the value is reset to zero and whenever the result
exceeds the maximum limit, the value is reset to the number of docks at the particular station.
So, this helps in reducing the error value. Prediction Using the extracted models, the number of
bikes at the new stations is predicted. The same constraints are applied to avoid negative values

Exploring the role of fisheries, tourist operators and other stakeholders towards the sustainable

Philippines is composed of 7,100 islands bestowed with rich coastal resources and marine
diversity (Balgos, 2005). With rich coastal resources, Filipinos made coastal fishing activities its
main livelihood. On the other hand, tourism is also seen as a growing industry in the coastal

research paper is to describe the challenges from the rapid growth of tourism related development
and other multiple land uses that have resulted in conflicting land use and resource management
between the fisheries and resort operators in the coastal areas of the Philippines. If possible, a
hybrid case study can be conducted through doing a questionnaire administered by e mail with two
experts in the field of in the Philippines to assess the situation regarding the current policies, land
use and resource management. Furthermore, a proposed framework of policies from secondary
research can be examined if it is possible to be applied with the current situation along the coastal
areas of the Philippines. Further exploration of this research is valuable for the fishermen, tourist
operators and other stakeholders to clearly identify their roles and responsibility that should prevent
issues between them and to help with the preservation and conservation of the environment along
the coastal areas. Currently, the environment and the resources of the Philippines are depleting
because of overfishing, destructive fishing, sedimentation and disposal of untreated waste (Parras,

constant rise. Sadly, recent observations have concluded that the proportion of the world s
population employed in agriculture has declined in recent decades and 50 per cent of the world
s population now lives in urban environments. This proportion is expected to rise to 70 per cent
by 2050 (Parfitt et al., Food Waste within Food Supply Chains ). Being in shape or skinny has
been important for many years. Seventy seven percent of America s population is trying to lose
or maintain their weight ( Americans Concerned about Their Weight ). A fad diet is a popular
diet that usually known for success. Fad diets usually change the foods consumed by the dieter.
As the fads change, so does the demand for different types of food. As the demand for one food
item increases, the demand of others decrease. Due to the constant changes, it is extremely
difficult for farmers to plan what they need to grow. As farmers fail to predict the amount of crops
needed, the extra food is more likely to become waste. As the predictability changes, farmers cannot
make profit. This also leads to the decline of farms.

Gender Differences In The Help Movie
The help is a movie about race, gender and class inequalities in Jackson Mississippi during the
1960 s. It is told from the point of view of a young writer named Skeeter. She was born into a
middle class family who s servants and maids are called The help and are exclusively African
American and treated as if they were diseased and below any white American. The maids did the
cooking, cleaning and even raising white children as if they were their own. Skeeter recognized
this as a problem and decided she wanted to write a book about the struggles of a black woman s
experience being in service to white women. Because of the laws set in place in the south to restrict
maids and their sympathizers from raising awareness to inequality, Aibileen... Show more content

Examples Of Irony In The Pardoner s Tale
There are many examples of irony in The Pardoner s Tale . There are three different kinds of
irony. The different ironies are verbal, dramatic, and situational irony. Not only does The Pardoner
s Tale give us examples of irony, but blasphemy is also present in the story.
An example of verbal irony is when the youngest rioter says he wants to kill some rats so he goes
to an apothecary. This is an example of verbal irony because the reader assumes that he is actually
is talking about rats, but that assumption is wrong. Those rats he wants to kill are actually the other
two rioters. This is verbal irony because the young rioter says one thing but means another.
An example of dramatic irony is when the old man tells the rioters will find death.

Essay On Genre Analysis
How I approached writing my Genre Analysis:
I approached my genre writing based on Writing in the Health Sciences guidelines for research
papers. Since my chosen paper was a research paper, I looked for the sections in a research paper
that included the abstract, introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion, and references.
This helped me decide what needed to be in each section so I could elaborate on if it was included
or was not.
How I found my sources:
I started out by going through articles on google scholar and found the one that made me most
interested. I have known people that have smoked during pregnancy and what happened to their
child so I wanted to see if children could potentially have asthma from their mom smoking. ... Show

Here I also stated if my paper had that convention and if they had any variation in a research paper
regarding to Writing in the Health Sciences. This helped me write my paper because we were to
describe each convention in our genre analysis so it gave me a start. It also helped me analyze
the effectiveness of the genre which was step 4 in our paper. Here in step 4 I think was my most
difficult part in the paper because after gaining your input on that you should not say I believe I
understand why it sounds more confident. I will now write my ideas as such, but then when
proofreading go back and delete it because it sounds better stating why x causes y.
What went well in my Genre Analysis:
After receiving your comment on my genre analysis paper, I noticed that I did have a lot of
information in my paper. I went over the minimum word count because I felt that it was necessary
because I wanted to incorporate the information from the study into my paper. What also went
well in my paper was that I appropriately cited information in APA, which included in text
citations and references. If I did these wrong, I wish you could tell me since from my
understanding I did them right and want to do well on the test paper.
What did not go well in my Genre

Options for Production Systems Applicable to IAAS
There are four broad options for production systems applicable to IAAS, namely: farm dams; pond
culture; tank culture, and cage based culture. Production system design for any one integrated
farming model is likely to fit into one of the following three categories: Extensive systems:
characterized by ambient conditions, low stocking density and generally using existing
infrastructure with little or no modification (e.g. farm dams) or management intervention (e.g. no
supplementary feeding). Semi intensive systems: usually occurs in modified/constructed ponds,
cages or tanks under ambient conditions with moderate stocking densities requiring management
of water exchange, water quality and feeding regimes. Intensive systems: high stocking density,
high levels of capital investment and reliant on complete control of water quality and feeding
regimes under largely controlled environmental conditions. Ponds can vary greatly in size and
depth, depending on site characteristics, but are generally 0.1 2.0 ha in area, 0.5 2.0 m deep and
may have a sloping bottom from 0.5 m to 1.5 2.0m deep, draining to a harvesting sump (Ogburn et
al. 1995). For this project the pondtype will be discussed, as the fish farm we selected is pond
culture. There are different reasons affecting to the choice of the selection of farm. The main
reason for choosing the Charly s Angels culture is that as the main goal of this thesis is to utilize
water use of fishponds the largest water user farms

Management and Operations Management Theory
ABSTRACT
This paper defines the four functions of management and the operations management theory. It then
provides an analysis of how the functions of management the operations management.
THE FOUR FUNCTIONS OF MANAGEMENT
Planning: It is an act of formulating a program for a definitive course of action. The management
defines a goal and puts forward its strategies to accomplish the objectives defined.
Organizing: To divide the work force into specific groups and giving each group a specific task.
Organizing also involves ensuring that a smooth flow of information and co ordination exists
between these groups. Thus the basic aim of organizing is to simply divide the work load and

IMPACT OF MANAGEMENT FUNCTION ON OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT
This section analyses the impact that the previously discussed functions of management has on the
operations management.
Planning is the most important pillar of operations management. When an organization plans its
goals and sets down its strategies, it then becomes easier for the managerial level to decide and
distribute the work load. Without any plan of action, the organization or company would not know
what it is working towards. For a manufacturing company, planning would include product design.
For work to be conducted on the principles of operations management, organizing plays an
important role. Workload needs to be divided in such an efficient manner that the skills of an
employee or a group of employees are used to the fullest. Overloading any employee would result in
deficient outputs and derogatory work which would naturally be time consuming.
As the goal of organizing is to produce better results, similarly leading or motivating is necessary
for an organization to extract maximum performance out of the workers. With appealing incentives,
workers would work honestly and put in their best. This in turn would save the company time and
there would be a complete control of the managerial department over things like production control
and quality control. When an employee is

How Did Hannibal Dominate The Roman Army
Hannibal Barca was a man bred for war. His ability to command a battlefield was unmatched
during his day. During the Second Punic War, Hannibal led the Carthaginian army against the
Roman Republic. He would march through Italy destroying the Roman legions battle after battle.
His victories at Trebia and Trasimene were just preludes to the massacre that he would conduct in
Southern Italy, at the Battle of Cannae. Rome had the best military of its time. They troops were
drafted each year and any land owning citizen could be picked. Every man was trained in the art
of war, to be ruthless and efficient on the battlefield. They were trained with pilum and gladus to
kill their enemies. They fought in what is known has a Maniple Legion. Maniples were the small
formations that made up the bigger battle lines. These smaller organizations trained together and
became a coherent part of the Roman lines. The Roman camps were laid out so that the Maniples

Object relations theorist says past memories, relationships, and images of events can effect an
individuals present functioning (Butman, Jones, 2011, 140). Internal objects are the most
important because they influence the individuals self, relationships they engage in, and the
attachment these individuals form within those relationships (Murdock, 2013, 83). These
internal objects determine how we relate to people (Butman, Jones, 2011, 141). Internalized
objects also represent how individuals view themselves (Butman, Jones, 2011, 141). When an
individual is nurtured and protected, they are more likely to develop a whole view of
themselves (Butman, Jones, 2011, 141). On the contrary, individuals who do not feel protected
and loved tending to get stuck in the relationship where their needs were not met (Butman, Jones,

seek to meet primitive needs (Butman, Jones, 2011, 144). Melanie did not form the appropriate

Spanking Speech
Your disrespectful child just got suspended from school for swearing at a teacher. Do you think
spanking is necessary? I don t think spanking your child for his/her wrongdoing is abusive. Believe
it or not, it actually teaches your child not to do it again. It also shows them that, that type of
behavior is unacceptable and that you will not tolerate it.
Some kids that s more timid and usually respectful would be fine with a pop on the hand and
time out or take their Tv time and iPad privilege away, but then there s the kids who like to push
their limits. Spankings should be used when necessary, because I feel like your child s behavior
is a reflection of yourself no matter where you go, what you do, or who you re with. You will
always be your mother s child. So when people look at you they see your mother so that makes a
big difference in your behavior goals. If you ve spanked your child and they re still testing you
time, and time again, you should pick out a switch or a thick leather belt before your child ends
up on Beyond Scared Straight . Spankings are very necessary because it shows your child that you
re his/her parent first, and friend second. It ll also teach them respect and make them afraid to go
against your rules again. Children in more than 20 countries are grown up without being spanked in
homes, daycare, or schools. In Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Australia, Finland and other countries
they have banned corporal punishment of children in general have the lowest

Mesopotamia Legacies
Ancient Mesopotamia
The region of Mesopotamia has left behind a huge legacy that still has an effect on our daily life.
This region was the first region for humanity to move from a semi nomadic lifestyle to a more
urbanized civilization. This region is also referred to as the Fertile Crescent. The three big
civilizations that this region held are the Sumerians, Babylonians, and Assyrians. These three large
civilizations are the founders of these legacies. Some of these legacies are huge advancements in
writing, mathematics, and advancement in technologies. Even too modern daily we still see some
form of these legacies. The Sumerians, the first civilization of Mesopotamia, was the creator of the
first written language. This language ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The start of these advancements goes along with their written language. Through their language
of Cuneiform, they have symbols for all sixty numbers in their base for math. The Sumerians
based their math off of 60, which is why there are only sixty numbers (Shuttleworth 2010). These
used this math for everything even astronomy and mathematic functions. This math allowed
them to keep track of larger amounts of things easier and even keep track of records for things
like accounting. Even though they did not have any numbers over sixty doesn t mean they
couldn t track more. They showed anything of sixty as sixty plus whatever else is left over. This
base of sixty is not used for everything that we do in our daily life. We still use the base of sixty
for time mainly. We still have sixty seconds in a minute and sixty minutes in an hour. Later
throughout Mesopotamia the Babylonians eventually started to base their numbers off of ten and
they had symbols for single, tens, and hundreds. Even though this was their main gift to us in our
modern world these still have some more advancements in mathematics. This math allowed them to
use decimals and fractions. They were able to make a twelve month calendar with this math. The
Babylonians believed that there was 360 days in a year, which divided by sixty

After visiting vaccine programs in sub Saharan Africa, Gates would frequently ask women at

Benefits Of Going To College And Getting A Bachelor Degree
All high schoolers face the same daunting problem. What they are going to do with their lives. A
choice made as an 18 year old, determines future paths for the rest of their lives. Recently the
subject of going to college and getting a four year degree has become very controversial. HIgh
school students are choosing other alternatives, such as trade school, community college, or even not
getting any further education at all. However even with many other options, going to college and
getting a bachelor s degreeis valuable for everyone. Going to college and getting a four year
degree earns individuals more money. Those people make 98% more an hour than those without
degrees. (Leonhardt 1) Over the course of a lifetime, a person with a bachelor s degree will
make 1.1 million dollars opposed to average of 393,000 over a lifetime of someone without a
bachelor s degree. (Hamm 4) The more money one makes, the more opportunities one is offered.
Traveling the world, materialistic items, living location, providing for family, are all examples
of opportunities requiring: money. College let s one attain these opportunities by giving degrees
that will earn people higher paying jobs. A very big issue that people have with attending a four
year college is the cost of college tuition. College is very expensive. Even after paying a large sum

or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the
right of the people peaceably to assemble and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
In fact, Americans have a limited form of free speech. Several types of speech are not protected
including fighting words, commercial speech, libel and slander, and obscenity. The Supreme
Court has three tests for determining what is obscene: (1) whether the average person, applying
local community standards, would find that a work, taken as a whole, appeals to a prurient
interest; (2) whether the work depicts in a patently offensive way sexual conduct specifically
defined as obscene in law; and (3) whether the work,

Pharmaceutical Industry and Merck
Merck, being on one of the biggest pharmaceutical companies in the world today, came from a
meek beginning and still encounters many problems today while trying to maintain a lead amongst
its competition. While being looked at as a research and development driven company, Merck now
has to go beyond R D to stay competitive in the pharmaceutical industry. Attracting talent to work
for the company has never been a problem for Merck, but the bigger question was whether or not
this talent would be able to keep Merck s profits at a maximum and keep developing drugs in the
pipeline.
Through the late 80 s to early 90 s, Merck was able to boast profits and sales through biochemistry
drugs that were seen as breakthrough drugs in this new market. ... Show more content on

Weaknesses:
Although Merck has encountered success, the organization has confronted weaknesses and
disappointments. One weakness that Merck has confronted is the duration of the drug
development, the value of the drug being evaluated and the length of the FDA application for
drug approval. For example, of the 5,000 molecules that are discovered, only couple of hundred
are investigated, only one enters into the market and only a third becomes a marketable success
(Gilbert and Sarkar 3). A drug development time may take on average over 15 years and
expenditure R D total costs of about $880 million (Gilbert and Sarkar 2) (Exhibit 3). The length
for and FDA application is at least 100,000 pages, which details the potential drug s usage,
production, formula and labeling. Another weakness with Merck is that too much power is given
to scientists in decision making of candidate drugs. The MRL was somewhat the main decision
makers in organizing the drug development process including final say on whether Phase V or
post evaluation drug studies could be used. MRL, at one time, did not show a lot of emphasis on
Phase V and wanted to move on after Phase III. Figures like Per Wold Olsen, President of Human
Health Europe, had to fight to get approval and funding for Phase V research. The third weakness is
the inadequacies and lack of communication between marketing and research. For

Synopsis Of A Weather Watcher Shines Bright Red Above...
KTTC s weather watcher shines bright red above Minneapolis/ Saint Paul s skyline. Warmer
weather is on its way. The mid afternoon news report confirms it. It is hot. Scorching hot.
Temperatures were already in the 90s and expected to climb. Tonight those lucky enough to afford
air conditioning will ramp it up and seek peace in cooler conditions.
Bud, a 70 year old veteran of the Marine Corps, isn t so lucky. He does not have air conditioning.
Instead, two strategically placed ceiling fans cool his 2nd story walk up. One creeks back and forth
in the dining room while the other whirs in his bedroom. They do little to stymie the heat, however,
along with an open window, the miniscule breeze circulating through the apartment is better than ...

Today and every day since a drunken driver t boned her vehicle in the middle of an intersection
Molly has issues getting to work. If she calls in sick today, she loses her job. It would be her 3rd
lost job in 9 months. Losing yet another job, means that she and her husband would not be able to
pay their rent. Not being able to afford rent means tonight she and her husband will have another
fight.
Though their experiences are vastly different, Bud and Molly are two very text book examples of
people living with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). They are also two representative
examples of people who have the potential to come into contact with a police officer or another
emergency response team during a crisis. An officer or 1st responder may respond to a simple
welfare check for an elderly veteran, or the officer maybe called to intervene in a more complex
case of situational domestic violence.
While clinicians and therapists have made strides in mental health crises, little has been done to get
evidence base practices and techniques (EBP/ EBT) into the hands of those who need it the most
those on the front line, the police and emergency responders. Michael Nerheim, a State s Attorney
from Lake County, Illinois, told the Chicago Tribune, If officer s aren t properly trained they could
mistake something that s really a mental illness for aggression or non compliance (Olsen, 2016).

Australia s Margaret River Winery Region Essay
Welcome to Australia s Margaret River Premier Wine Region
Wines, both red and white, have been a source of refreshment for over 8000 years. To date, a
cave in Armenia is the only location of the oldest known winery ever discovered, circa 4100 B.C.
And since that time, the people s love of grapes and their savory, fermented liquids has never
looked back. Over the centuries, there have been a handful of countries that have proven more
climatically advantageous in producing exceptionally renowned wines. Today, Australia is
acknowledged as one of the top 5 best wine producing countries in the world.
While the country s signature Shiraz grapes were first introduced in 1832, the modern era of
Margaret River wineries has evolved from one initial grape farm in 1967 to an amazing
viticulture paradise of over 200 private and public vineyards. The area s climate and geography
have proven to be an idyllic blend of the natural resources required for growing exceptional grapes.
The Margaret River winery region produces 5 percent of Australia s entire grape population, but
reigns supreme over 20 percent of the country s entire premium market for wines.
The outstanding reputation of Winery Margaret River may be primarily based on its Cabernet
Sauvignon wines and its Chardonnay wines, it also has an excellent standing for its Semillon
Sauvignon Blanc wines. Amongst all of its regional wineries, Margaret River yields a variety of
harvested grapes that are nearly evenly divided

Living In A Small Town Essay
Living in a Small Town in a Big City
Everyone has a different opinion when they have to choose between live in a small town or a big
city. Some people think that living in a small town is peaceful because they feel much closer to the
nature, while the others choose to live in a big city because of its entertainment such as cinemas,
shopping centers, club, and concerts. Also, there are several similarities between small town and a
big city which is history, mission, vision, values, and goals to make their place become much
better. However, most people still do not know how to decide whether they want to live in a small
town or a big city and one of the ways to solve this is to compare them at several points.
Living in a big city can be very different from a small town. Since there are a lot of opportunities
to find a job in a big city, most people have their own variety of occupations. In the morning,
people are wake up and get ready to work. There are several occupations that most people in a big
city have, such as businessman, architect, entrepreneur and etc. Most of them are typically a hard
worker because sometimes they do overtime work even on the weekend. They usually ... Show

A small town is known by their peacefulness and by their nature sounds of animals in the
morning or during the night. Different from a small town, a big city is noisier because they have
a lot of variety of machine sounds such as sirens, honks, vehicles, and people. Those kind of
sounds will block out the natural noises that people would hear in a small town. It is not only the
noise that is very different from both of them but also the air pollution. A small town has more fresh
air and it means people in a small town are breathing healthier air than people in a big city. Unlike
small town, in a big city, they have a lot of air pollution from cars, factories, cigarette smoke, and
smokestacks which are not good for

Kvothe In Patrick Rothfuss s The Name Of The Wind
The lifestyle of a troupe of traveling performers, the meticulous science behind arcane magic, and
the truth of the evil entities known as Chandrian. All of these subjects are touched upon within
Patrick Rothfuss s The Name of the Wind, the first book of a three part fantasy series telling the
tale of Kvothe, a man of brilliance, bravery, beauty, and most of all, bad luck (Alliteration). So far
within the novel, Kvothe (who now goes as Kote) is regaling his legacy to Chronicler for history s
sake, describing the death of his parents at the hands of demons, his punitive years in the alleyways
of Tarbean, and his budding enrollment to the University. Although I have yet to finish the book, I

One prediction is that Kvothe will meet Denna again: some people say there was a woman ,
says Chronicler to Kvothe (Rothfuss 49). Kvothe responds by abruptly (and angrily) cutting
him off. As the beginning of the book actually occurs in the future of most of the story, this
comment inclines there is a woman that drastically affects Kvothe. The reason I believe that
woman to be Denna is that she is the only female so far in the book that Kvothe has shown an
interest to. Entire pages were spent describing how benevolent she is, of her goodness and
grace. It would be odd if those descriptions were meaningless and Kvothe and she were never to
meet again. Another prediction is that Master Hemme will be the one who gets Kvothe kicked
out of the University. He is an insidious and spiteful man, attempting to humiliate Kvothe in front
of his class and, when this backfired, trying to expel Kvothe for not simply rolling over and
accepting his fate of being inferior. Master Hemme may not be well liked in the school, but he
does hold a substantial amount of sway within the University. It is already made clear that Kvothe
is expelled from the school at the young age, and because of his adversity to Hemme, the Master is

A Cloud Supply Chain Management
A Cloud Supply Chain Management approach to Small Business
Small businesses are entering into a new era where older value systems and relationships are
changing into digital ecosystems with emerging complex relationships.
In the book, Being Digital, Nicholas Negroponte the Director of MIT s Media Lab introduces a
simple and powerful model for describing and predicting the effects of digital technology on
information exchange; he suggests that we re moving from a time where information is traded
as atoms or Evian bottles to a time where information is traded as bits. He suggests further that
moving from atoms to bits will have a particular sociological effect: As we interconnect
ourselves, many of the values of a nation state will give way to those of both larger and smaller
electronic communities. We will socialize in digital neighborhoods in which physical space will
be irrelevant and time will play a different role. Twenty years from now, when you look out a
window, what you will see may be five thousand miles and six time zones away (Negroponte, 2015).
Small business needs to be digitally wired due to the merging of physical boundaries with the
stateless digital technology. If a small business doesn t reinvent itself in the modern digital sphere, it
will lose its existence due to technological disruption. Embracing and integrating the modern cloud
technologies into every aspect of the business (Manufacturing, Marketing, Supply Chain, Sales and
services) is

Classical Societies Essay
Classical Societies Essay There is a tremendous amount of artwork from classical societies that
still inspires artists and art enthusiasts today. Art can reveal an extensive amount of information
regarding the culture of the society from which it was created. To analyze artwork in relation to
the culture of the society, the artwork must be studied in a variety of ways. The artwork that will
be examined will be the Parthenon from the Classical Greece period, the Nike of Samothrace from
the Hellenistic Greece period, the Capitoline She Wolf from the Etruscan Civilization, a Roman

Greek ark seems to have influenced the Etruscan artists. Which, would lead to the assumption,
Etruscan people may have adopted some of the customs and traditions from the societies of
Greece. A Roman Patrician with Busts of His Ancestors is a remarkable example of sculpture
from the Roman Republic period. The sculpture was made out of marble in the last century
BCE. This art reveals the magnitude of importance this society attached to family and lineage.
The wealth and expansion of the Roman Republic led to the creation of new social classes. Their
art was meant to show power and influence. They created realistic art, and typically focused on
certain places, specific times, and political people used for propaganda and included ideological
messages. They placed great importance on the realistic image of the body and especially the
face. The Pantheon 118 125 BCE is an outstanding example of many advances in architecture
produced from the Roman Empire. The Pantheon is a circular temple dedicated to the 12 major
Gods. The dome was made of concrete and had an opening at the top called an oculus. The oculus
lets sunlight in, and it would hit all 12 Gods as the sun set form east to west. This design is still
popular today. The craftsmanship of the architects and their attention to every detail shows the
society placed great value on knowledge and improving on the skills they had

Common Estate Case Study
When closing an estate, most states that use a formal probate process, allow for an informal closing
for common estates. These states simplified the probate process for estates that are straightforward;
not complicated or contested. Fortunately, Massachusetts is one of those states. In Massachusetts,
closing an estateusing the simplified probateprocess involves the following tasks:
1)Complete a final inventory of assets.
2)Using the inventory of assets in the final accounting, complete the final accounting.
3)Under cover of an assent form, send copies of the inventory of assets and the final accounting to
each beneficiary.
4)After receiving the signed assent forms from each beneficiary, the executor must sign the form
called ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
3)Schedule C Schedule C is the remaining balance of the estate. In common estates, the balance
should be zero. Simply put, the total in Schedule A must equal the total in Schedule B to produce a
zero balance in Schedule C. Furthermore, filling in these schedules with the appropriate values is a
collaborative effort. At times, throughout an estate administration, there are legal matters that the
attorney must handle. If these matters produce income or expenses for the estate, the attorney
should enter those values on the appropriate schedule. So, if the account doesn t balance in the
initial attempts, the attorney will most likely step in to help find any discrepancies if needed.
Once the final accounting balances, then the attorney will continue with the rest of the closing
process mentioned above. At this point, the only remaining task for the executor is to distribute the
rest of the property in the estate after signing the account form.
.
The Informal Closing of an Estate
Although an estate may close informally, it doesn t mean that a probate court won t request
information at a later date. Therefore, the executor should hold on to the original documents related
to the informal closing. In addition, the executor should retain supporting documents related to
entries in the final accounting such as receipts, bank statements, and brokerage statements.
Basically, all an executor needs to do is store all the documentation used to produce the

Behavioral Techniques in the Classroom Essay
Behavioral Techniques in the Classroom
Very often, American parents complain that schools are disorderly and undisciplined. They claim
that their child s behavior has worsened and the child is using vulgar language. Teachers, however,
complain that students arrive at school lacking common courtesy and respect for authority. Because
of this, instruction time is wasted trying to obtain order (Bennett, et. al., 1999).
Student discipline is affected by classroom management. The way in which a teacher manages his
/her classroom delineates the type of instruction that will take place in the classroom. A classroom
in which the teacher takes total responsibility for guiding students actions comprises a different

The clearer the structure in the classroom, the more freedom the teacher can allow students (Slavin,
2003).
Classroom rules are important in the smooth management of classrooms (Wardle, 2003). Effective
schools ensure that parents and students know what is expected of them. Their written rules
clearly define acceptable behavior and the consequences for breaking the rules (Bennett, et. al.,
1999). Class rules should be few in number, should be seen as fair and make sense to students, and
be clearly explained and taught to students. Class rules should become second nature to students
(Slavin, 2003). Not only must rules be clearly presented to students, they must also be
implemented. Students need to know that there will be real consequences for their misbehavior,
not something that they will feel is not a big deal. The teacher needs to be the moral authority in
the classroom and it is imperative that school officials and parents back up the teachers decisions
(Bennett, et. al., 1999). Teachers who do not establish their authority in the classroom often spend a
lot of time dealing with misbehavior (Slavin, 2003). Good behavior should be recognized and high
academic standards maintained. Students must understand that good manners are not a choice but
a requirement; however, teachers and other adults need to teach the students the need for self
discipline. If students continue to be chronically disruptive, they should be taken out of class

The Importance Of Literacy
Literacy or the ability to read and write is not only very important but it is a necessity in dealing
the everyday life. It is like breathing, you need it so you don t even think about what it s like not
being able to read or write. Everything we do in based on reading in this world, yet there are 32
million adults in the U.S. that can t read. The power of literacy lies not just in the ability to read
and write, but rather in a person s capacity to apply these skills to effectively connect, interpret and
discern the complexities of the world in which they live.
Literacy is about more than just words and meaning, it affects peoples lives directly, impacting their
chances of employment and a descent level of income. The effects of globalization and free trade,
better communication and information technologies, and the rise of societies that use knowledge
and information have resulted in a growing demand for highly skilled workers. Not only has
literacy become very important in the U.S some have started programs to get kids more involved
in reading. Michelle Obama has been very involved in helping get the message out about how
important reading and education in general is for future generations.
However, one career that is very dependent on the ability to read and write is the acting
profession. An actor and actress are very dependent on knowing how to read so they can learn
their lines and reading clue cards with their lines on it. Literacy isn t only very

Coastal Storms Affecting Connecticut s Coastal Populations
Sea level rise caused by global warming poses clear threats to coastal populations in Connecticut.
In fact, models have depicted that the rate of global sea level rise could elevate by two to five
times by the end of this century, and this will affect the health of residents and the state s economy
due to increase the impacts of coastal storms in urban areas (Gornitz et al., 2004). Reports have
shown that Connecticut s coastline has historically been at risk due to coastal storms (Frumhoff et
al., 2007). For instance, a 2007 synthesis report of Northeast ClimateImpacts Assessment (NECIA)
suggested that there might be an increase in the number of winter storms received in coastal
Connecticut (particularly late in the winter). Also, in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Reports revealed that by 2080s, the projected flood heights for locations in Connecticut (e.g.,
Norwalk, Westport, Bridgeport, Greenwich Cove, Shippan Point, Stamford, and Stratford)
could range from 11.5 to 13 feet for a Category 1 hurricane, and 14.5 to 15.7 feet for a Category 3
storm (Gornitz et al., 2004). Therefore, rising sea level could account for 18 22% of the
increase in flood height (in the high sea level rise scenario) or 6 8% in the lower case (Gornitz et
al., 2004). With the rising sea level, floods generated by storms of this magnitude could approach
18 feet by the 2080s (Gornitz et al., 2004). The increase in the projected flood level cities in
Connecticut will be greatly affected such as Bridgeport and New Haven. As an illustration, a
significant portion of both Bridgeport and New Haven lies within the high risk flood zone, and
during severe storms this place a large population, private property, and infrastructure at high risk.
In New Haven, some infrastructures that are at risk include the New Haven railroad station and
track yards, the Tweed New Haven Airport, ramps to the Connecticut

Recommendations For Persuade Cafe

From: Berlinda Pearson
Date: June 4, 2017
Subject: Business Improvement Program (Recommendations for Persuade CafГ©)
Dear Jacqueline Marcus, my name is Berlinda Pearson; I have been hired to provide new ideas
and new recommendation for your business improvement program. As you know, Persuade CafГ©
offers unpretentious coffee, tea, espresso drinks, bakery items, whole beans, and T shirts. Although
these products have proven to contribute to the success of Persuade CafГ©, there are some must
needed changes that are necessary to compete with its competitors and sustain a competitive
advantage. Based on the survey results from customers, there were a number of 433 responses to
an upgrade for bakery items, dГ©cor, faster service, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, I have come to the conclusion that improper training is coming from various employees.
In order for the CafГ© to become more successful, my recommendation is that they hire a training
team who will train all employees the same way, to eliminate inconsistency. Since employees are
the front line of the CafГ©, it is important that Persuade CafГ© make training a top priority.
пѓ Installation of Wi Fi Free Wi Fi is becoming a prominent customerexpectation, so with that
being said; it will benefit Persuade CafГ©, and will increase the customers time spent on the
premises. Customers will visit more often because they can use their cell phone, tablet, laptop via
Wi Fi. Small businesses, such as Persuade CafГ© might find themselves at a serious competitive
disadvantage it they do not install free Wi Fi.
By implementing these recommendations at Persuade CafГ©, it is my belief that these changes
over a period of time will increase their customer satisfaction, become more inviting and attract new
customers, and increase employee morale. Informing existing customers and future customers of
the upcoming changes should spark some excitement. Implementing changes within a business
takes time; however it is to better serve

The Social Action Theory and Symbolic Interactionism Essay
The Social Action Theory and Symbolic Interactionism Max Weber believed that individuals were
the key to society. He developed social action theory, the purpose of which was to find out why
individuals function in certain ways. He thought that every social action performed by an individual
had a meaning attached to it. Social actions are the result of conscious thought processes that take
into consideration the reactions of other individuals. Weber identified four types of social action
which include, reason (an instrumentally rational or calculated action), value or rational action
(determined by belief), emotion or effectual action (dependent upon the feelings of the individual),
and traditional... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These properties could be exchanged for money in the economic market he was of the opinion that
this position in the economic market place determined class position so that in theory there would
be as many class positions as economic positions. Therefore the class structure of society is
essentially an occupation structure. Social action theory recognises other divisions apart from
simply class and also recognises that consumption of goods (by which status groups are stratified)
is just as important as the production (by which class is stratified). It also draws attention to the
importance of the individual and their conscious actions. It does not however place enough
emphasis on class divisions, as it tends to concentrate more on status. Symbolic interactionists
reject structure and believe that to study society, the only way to do so is to concentrate on the
individual. Both theories believe in understanding the individual through the use of empathy.
George Herbert Mead was mainly concerned with the importance of language. Language
distinguishes humans from animals and allows us to be aware of our individuality. The use of
symbols is a key element of language. They are used to give meanings to particular events or
objects and are learned by socialisation. Humans make them to assist them to

  • 3. Nurse Shortage Plan The problem of nurse shortage is not new to healthcare. Moreover, it becomes burning in critical and intensive care units where the workload is high, and nurses observe an increased risk of burnout (Pastores Kvetan, 2015). Nurse shortage has a negative impact not only on nurses themselves. It also influences patients and can lead to negative patient outcomes due to less attention that a nursegives to a patient (Ferrer et al., 2014). Therefore, there is a need for a strategic plan to address nurse shortage and thus contribute both to nurse retention and improved patient outcomes. The purpose of this paper is to present a strategic plan of an intervention aimed at reduction of nurse shortage in intensive and critical care units. Key Concepts ... At the same time, such weaknesses as the lack of trained nurse managers and poor planning of workload slow down the possible improvements. The organization is open to new opportunities. Thus, it supports the use of health IT such as electronic health record to make the work of nurses less loaded. Moreover, the organization is interested in continuous nurse education, which is beneficial both for nurse employees and the organization itself since it will get well trained professionals. Finally, the organization is ready to review scheduling policies to reduce nurse fatigue and burnout. Still, there are some threats that can prevent the project implementation. There still is a high risk of burnout because of the necessity to work in shifts and working extra hours. Moreover, the lack of effective nurse leaders may not allow change ... • 4. Biography Of Alexander John Greenslade And Lady Mary Capelle Alexander John Greenslade, Stepney, London, 1885. I was born to Lord John Greenslade and Lady Mary Capelle. In my early years, me and my kin took residency in Millbank road; walking distance from both the Palace of Westminster and Buckingham Palace. We lived in a white bricked mansion: five stories tall; a small porters lodge just outside the front door; white and gold incrusted foyer centred around a carpeted marble staircase, a glittering chandelier hanging from The Creation of Adam on the ceiling. The lower few floors there were full with an extensively lavish state dining room, drawing rooms, art galleries, studies and libraries, all challenging the opulence of even Queen Victoria s palaces. On the top floor, private apartments were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A young mother and son, both dirty and worn, walked down the depressed street. As our carriage wheeled by, the boy and I managed to look at each other directly in the eyes. Just from the bloodshot brown eyes, I saw the worry of a hundred grown men thrown onto his shoulders. Why is everything here so awful? I asked my father. Both my parents faced me, their heads held high. These people are not like us; they come of unfortunate bloodlines. Born into a poor family, and will stay that way until they die. They said, splitting up the sentences. That s sad, Listen; they are none of your concern. They live their lives, and we live ours. My mother snapped Enough of this somber talk, we are nearly at Hyde Park. Father chimed in. We made our way out of the slums, returning to the vicinity of the palace. The horses drew us around Kensington Palace and the Russian embassy. Past Round Pond stood the Crystal Palace. A magnificent building, made almost wholly of glass, was erected by the river running through the park. Millions of 10 by 50 inch glass panes, all held together by iron reinforcements; reaching 170 feet high. Thousands of people surrounded the palace s fountains and parks. The carriage slowed to a halt outside of the transparent doors. The family strode into the emporium. An explosion of colour and noise ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Spanish went to war to collect territory for their homeland in Spain. The Aztec went to war to please their gods and collect prisoners to sacrifice. The Spanish war strategies were for taking over the land they desired without war, but if it came to it they would fight. The weapons that both nations used were very dangerous, but were well suited for what they nation needed them for. The Aztecweapons were mostly for capturing prisoners. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Warfare was a part of Aztec life, the Aztecs went to war so that could capture people to sacrifice to their beloved gods. They believed if they did not sacrifice people the gods would get angry and the world would end. Other reasons to go to war were that they could expand their territory, and collect resources. The Aztec threw scattered wooden spears to disperse the enemy troops, come in and knock out the dispersed enemy warriors. The Spanish had a very different approach to war the Spanish tried to peacefully negotiate and discover the most powerful. When the Spanish found the strongest colony they would kidnap their leader and make him do their bidding, if the leader would not listen they would threaten to kill him. If things did not work out peacefully the conquistadors would fight on open ground where they have an advantage. The Music That Transformed a Hidden Classic into Modern Culture Le FantГґme de l OpГ©ra, a fictional novel published in 1911, by Gaston Leroux, puts the reader right in the catacombs of the Paris Opera House in the late 1800s (Cox: Oxford Reference). An adventure, involving tragic love and gothic elements, surrounds a detective s search to reveal the mystery of the Phantom of the Opera. The detective acts as the narrator who reflects on his investigations of the Paris Opera House through allusions and the tragedies that occur throughout the novel s entirety. She argues that adaptations are a continuous development of culture and that with adaptations, we seem to desire the repetition as much as the change ; however, she argues that a work is transformed (Hutcheon 9). Her valuable points about the rationale of adaptation work is the underlying argument in the continuation of making original works more valuable and in The Phantom of the Opera, music does just that. When the musical was adapted from the novel, it heavily maintained the idea that music was the central theme within the novel s allusions and metaphors. Music is an emotionally charged realm and can evoke the most powerful of emotions if done well. The original text of the novel is merely highlighted with the use of the composed soundtrack by Webber. Webber s adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera is one of the most ideal examples of this phenomenal skill of leaving an original story completely rendered into a product seeping with art. It is important to note when referencing adaptations that the first definition that appears when one looks up adaptation into the Oxford Reference dictionary are a variety of definitions that range from just about everything from an adaptation of a book to an adaptation of a recipe. This being noted, one can assume that an adaptation is any sort of adjustment to an original piece of work. Perhaps it was because I m Catholic and not Pentecostal. Everyone in the sanctuary was moving around and socializing. Members of the church walked to the front of the altar and praised by the means of the Holy Spirit. It was a lot the different than my church but it was really a great experience. The members of the church raise their hands, kneel to god, and speak in tongues. Speaking in tongues simply means speaking to God in a way that they don t understand themselves because the Holy Spirit fills their body. Another thing that was different about this church was the choir. Their choir was amazing and every selection they sung made me feel good inside. I got chills from some of the notes they hit. This church was very prompt and orderly. It started with a prayer from one of the Deacons of the church. The deacon openly asked the congregation for prayer requests and testimonies. One young lady gave a testimony about how she wanted to thank God for letting her see another day and healing her from cancer. It was also a special service honoring the Olive Branch Police Department. I ve never seen anything like that during a church service, it was really amazing and touching. Another thing they did that was uncommon to me was an altar call. Towards the end of the service Elder Shannon called for an altar call. Altar call is when the members of the church go up to the altar for prayer. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Deep Ecology And Environmental Pragmatism The concept of sustainability is becoming an ever more relevant and popular ideology today. Many college campuses take great pride in their sustainability, they take many steps to ensure that their garbage output, water usage and other various items are sustainable or working towards that goal. In areas outside of the college camps setting however, sustainabilityis often hard to reach due to a wide array of concepts, including deep ecologyand environmental pragmatism. I believe the two key points (of the 8) behind deep ecology is that humans have no right to reduce the richness and diversity of our natural resources, and that human interference with the non human world is excessive (Naess 3). Simply put, deep ecology is a push back against our over use of resources, with a goal to hardly use them at all. This concept occasionally goes together with the view held by many on environmental pragmatism, but the two often collide with each other. Environmental pragmatism involves the basic concept that humans are part of the environment and that this must be taken into account with its management(Light 3). This means that humans historical and cultural uses of the land must be taken into account with its management, even if it is not the best option for the land management. These two perspectives can come together to create a more sustainable environment, but they more often have very extreme differences of how to manage an area, and this is when wicked problems can ... • 10. The Theory Of Keynesian Economics Introduction During the Great Depression in the 1930 s classical theory had difficulty in explaining why the depression kept getting worse (Cheung, n.d., para. 1). Many economists have attempted to develop theories that help to explain changing circumstances and why things kept getting worse. John Maynard Keynes, a British economist also known as the founder of macroeconomics, saw this as an opportunity and began to develop alternative ideas. His alternative ideas led to the idea of Keynesian economics. What is Keynesian Economics? Keynesian economics was used to manage the economy for roughly forty years until around 1970. In order for there to be full employment or lower unemployment rates the demand of goods needed to remain constant. In order for demand to increase it had to come from the economy s output of goods and services. An economy s output of goods and services is the sum of four components: consumption, investment, government purchases, and net exports (the difference between what a country sells to and buys from foreign countries) (Jahan et al., 2014, para. 4). If savings was more than that of investments, there would be inflation. On the other hand, Keynes stated that if more went into investments than savings there would be a recession in the economy. This would mean that consumers would spend less, causing businesses to invest less in the market. Other well known economist, such as Adam Smith who felt that government should play no role in the market, Keynes felt that state intervention was the solution to this problem. According to Keynes, state intervention was necessary to moderate the booms and busts in eco nomic activity, otherwise known as the business cycle (Jahan et al., 2014, para. 4). Keynesian felt that state intervention would promote full employment and price stability and more specifi cally, governments should borrow money and boost demand by pushing the money into the economy. Who doesn t love to guess what something costs or argue about what something ought to cost? So it should come as no surprise that companies spend a lot of time figuring out how to price their products and services. But two professors in Wharton s marketing department, Jagmohan S. You have to lay out the scenarios: If I do this, the competition will react a certain way. If the competition doesn t react that way, then you have to have another plan ready. You cannot afford to fall behind your competition. Pricing can be thought of in any number of ways. One approach is a simple cost plus strategy: You figure out what it costs to produce an item and tack on a nice profit margin. Another approach is to conduct research to determine what customers are willing to pay for your product ($200 for a tiny bottle of perfume, for example) and set the price accordingly. Another method is competition based pricing, whereby a company figures out what its competitors are charging, then adjusts its prices up or down. All of these approaches make some sense, but none alone is sufficient, says Zhang. With pricing strategies, the whole really is greater than the sum of its parts. A classic example of how developing the right pricing strategy can spell the difference between profit mediocrity and profit stardom occurred at Ford Motor in the 1990s. For years, Ford, like other auto makers, tried to hold prices as low as possible on entry level cars, such as Escorts. Low prices represented an attempt to attract young buyers, with the hope that as they grew older and needed bigger vehicles they would remain loyal to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many people know this as the story of Moby Dick , which was based off this event. The novel highlights three themes: man versus nature, survival, and suffering. The novel starts out in the town of Nantucket, an island off the eastern coast of New England. Nantucket, at this time, is known as one of the most successful whaling ports. The whale began to move quickly towards the ship. The men try to steer Essex away from the whale, but are unsuccessful. The whale rams the ship with its head, and the men are amazed. After the whale revives itself, it struck the ship again, causing the Essex to sink bow first. The men board their whaleboats after a night of preparation of leaving the Essex. They stripped the sails of the ship and attached them to their boats. The waves splashed over the boat, causing the work to be more difficult. The next morning, the boats take off. Chase and Pollard talk of where to go now that their ship has sunk. They speak about going to the Galapagos Islands, but Pollard noticed the wind direction would not allow them to go there. Next, they speak about the Marquesas, in the west. The men had heard that the inhabitants of the island were cannibals. South of the Marquesas were the Tauamotu Archipelago Islands, but the men had also heard that the islands have a bad reputation. In this conversation, we notice the colonist s outlook on the unknown. Gun control is not just one concern, but rather many, within a common category. One may consider gun control a crime issue, while to others it may be a rights issue. Inside each and every issue, there are particular people who want more gun control legislation, and those who want less. Dorothy Samuels does a phenomenal job of portraying her stand on gun control through the use of ethos, logos, and pathos, in her article, Wrong on Gun Rights . Samuels utilizes the rhetorical strategies in order to persuade the audience into agreeing with her views. Dorothy Samuels view on gun control is illustrated in a handful of ways in the article Wrong on Gun Rights . Her first important point informs and educates her audience of the hazards of courts permitting second amendment rights as well as revoking bans on guns. This can be overcome by adding a constraint such that whenever the result is negative, the value is reset to zero and whenever the result exceeds the maximum limit, the value is reset to the number of docks at the particular station. So, this helps in reducing the error value. Prediction Using the extracted models, the number of bikes at the new stations is predicted. The same constraints are applied to avoid negative values and over fitting. The R software is used for predicting the number of bikes. The results of this prediction are stored in .csv file. Other Methods tried for prediction Instead of reusing the trained models, new models were built with the given deployment data for stations 201 to 275. Some of the methods used are given below. Ordinary Least Squares Method After collecting and cleaning the data, the first model was built using all the regressors under consideration. Purpose Statement The objective of my research paper is to describe the challenges from the rapid growth of tourism related development and other multiple land uses that have resulted in conflicting land use and resource management between the fisheries and resort operators in the coastal areas of the Philippines. If possible, a hybrid case study can be conducted through doing a questionnaire administered by e mail with two experts in the field of in the Philippines to assess the situation regarding the current policies, land use and resource management. Furthermore, a proposed framework of policies from secondary research can be examined if it is possible to be applied with the current situation along the coastal areas of the Philippines. Further exploration of this research is valuable for the fishermen, tourist operators and other stakeholders to clearly identify their roles and responsibility that should prevent issues between them and to help with the preservation and conservation of the environment along the coastal areas. Currently, the environment and the resources of the Philippines are depleting because of overfishing, destructive fishing, sedimentation and disposal of untreated waste (Parras, 2001). Fad diets usually change the foods consumed by the dieter. As the fads change, so does the demand for different types of food. As the demand for one food item increases, the demand of others decrease. Due to the constant changes, it is extremely difficult for farmers to plan what they need to grow. Options for Production Systems Applicable to IAAS There are four broad options for production systems applicable to IAAS, namely: farm dams; pond culture; tank culture, and cage based culture. Production system design for any one integrated farming model is likely to fit into one of the following three categories: Extensive systems: characterized by ambient conditions, low stocking density and generally using existing infrastructure with little or no modification (e.g. farm dams) or management intervention (e.g. no supplementary feeding). Semi intensive systems: usually occurs in modified/constructed ponds, cages or tanks under ambient conditions with moderate stocking densities requiring management of water exchange, water quality and feeding regimes. Intensive systems: high stocking density, high levels of capital investment and reliant on complete control of water quality and feeding regimes under largely controlled environmental conditions. Ponds can vary greatly in size and depth, depending on site characteristics, but are generally 0.1 2.0 ha in area, 0.5 2.0 m deep and may have a sloping bottom from 0.5 m to 1.5 2.0m deep, draining to a harvesting sump (Ogburn et al. 1995). Thorn p.4] IMPACT OF MANAGEMENT FUNCTION ON OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT This section analyses the impact that the previously discussed functions of management has on the operations management. Planning is the most important pillar of operations management. When an organization plans its goals and sets down its strategies, it then becomes easier for the managerial level to decide and distribute the work load. Without any plan of action, the organization or company would not know what it is working towards. For a manufacturing company, planning would include product design. For work to be conducted on the principles of operations management, organizing plays an important role. Workload needs to be divided in such an efficient manner that the skills of an employee or a group of employees are used to the fullest. Overloading any employee would result in deficient outputs and derogatory work which would naturally be time consuming. As the goal of organizing is to produce better results, similarly leading or motivating is necessary for an organization to extract maximum performance out of the workers. With appealing incentives, workers would work honestly and put in their best. This in turn would save the company time and there would be a complete control of the managerial department over things like production control and quality control. When an employee is ... These internal objects determine how we relate to people (Butman, Jones, 2011, 141). Internalized objects also represent how individuals view themselves (Butman, Jones, 2011, 141). Some kids that s more timid and usually respectful would be fine with a pop on the hand and time out or take their Tv time and iPad privilege away, but then there s the kids who like to push their limits. Spankings should be used when necessary, because I feel like your child s behavior is a reflection of yourself no matter where you go, what you do, or who you re with. You will always be your mother s child. So when people look at you they see your mother so that makes a big difference in your behavior goals. Internet Censorship Essay America Needs Censorship of Cyberspace In June of 1998 the country was horrified to learn of the death of James Byrd Jr. He was a 49 year old black man who had been found horribly mutilated after being dragged to death. Pharmaceutical Industry and Merck Merck, being on one of the biggest pharmaceutical companies in the world today, came from a meek beginning and still encounters many problems today while trying to maintain a lead amongst its competition. While being looked at as a research and development driven company, Merck now has to go beyond R D to stay competitive in the pharmaceutical industry. Attracting talent to work for the company has never been a problem for Merck, but the bigger question was whether or not this talent would be able to keep Merck s profits at a maximum and keep developing drugs in the pipeline. One weakness that Merck has confronted is the duration of the drug development, the value of the drug being evaluated and the length of the FDA application for drug approval. For example, of the 5,000 molecules that are discovered, only couple of hundred are investigated, only one enters into the market and only a third becomes a marketable success (Gilbert and Sarkar 3). A drug development time may take on average over 15 years and expenditure R D total costs of about $880 million (Gilbert and Sarkar 2) (Exhibit 3). The length for and FDA application is at least 100,000 pages, which details the potential drug s usage, production, formula and labeling. Another weakness with Merck is that too much power is given to scientists in decision making of candidate drugs. The MRL was somewhat the main decision makers in organizing the drug development process including final say on whether Phase V or post evaluation drug studies could be used. MRL, at one time, did not show a lot of emphasis on Phase V and wanted to move on after Phase III. A Cloud Supply Chain Management A Cloud Supply Chain Management approach to Small Business Small businesses are entering into a new era where older value systems and relationships are changing into digital ecosystems with emerging complex relationships. In the book, Being Digital, Nicholas Negroponte the Director of MIT s Media Lab introduces a simple and powerful model for describing and predicting the effects of digital technology on information exchange; he suggests that we re moving from a time where information is traded as atoms or Evian bottles to a time where information is traded as bits. He suggests further that moving from atoms to bits will have a particular sociological effect: As we interconnect ourselves, many of the values of a nation state will give way to those of both larger and smaller electronic communities. We will socialize in digital neighborhoods in which physical space will be irrelevant and time will play a different role. Twenty years from now, when you look out a window, what you will see may be five thousand miles and six time zones away (Negroponte, 2015). Their written rules clearly define acceptable behavior and the consequences for breaking the rules (Bennett, et. al., 1999). Class rules should be few in number, should be seen as fair and make sense to students, and be clearly explained and taught to students. Class rules should become second nature to students (Slavin, 2003). Not only must rules be clearly presented to students, they must also be implemented. The teacher needs to be the moral authority in the classroom and it is imperative that school officials and parents back up the teachers decisions (Bennett, et. al., 1999). Teachers who do not establish their authority in the classroom often spend a lot of time dealing with misbehavior (Slavin, 2003). He developed social action theory, the purpose of which was to find out why individuals function in certain ways. He thought that every social action performed by an individual had a meaning attached to it. Social actions are the result of conscious thought processes that take into consideration the reactions of other individuals. Weber identified four types of social action which include, reason (an instrumentally rational or calculated action), value or rational action (determined by belief), emotion or effectual action (dependent upon the feelings of the individual), and traditional... Social action theory recognises other divisions apart from simply class and also recognises that consumption of goods (by which status groups are stratified) is just as important as the production (by which class is stratified). It also draws attention to the importance of the individual and their conscious actions. It does not however place enough emphasis on class divisions, as it tends to concentrate more on status. Symbolic interactionists reject structure and believe that to study society, the only way to do so is to concentrate on the individual. Both theories believe in understanding the individual through the use of empathy. George Herbert Mead was mainly concerned with the importance of language.
