College Football Strengths
Ever since football gained fame and became a major sport in the United States, the players that play
this sport started receiving special treatment. Division 1 college football has become a huge program
in this country now and it is run under certain guidelines that are established by NCAA. It requires
students to take sixteen essential courses and students are then made eligible based on a sliding scale.
Sliding scale a student can have a GPA of 2.0 and have SAT scored of 1010 or have a SAT score of
400 and GPA of 3.55. Athletes have the comfort zone of becoming eligible through their either strong
testing skills or their strong academic skills. They can make up for their deficiency in grades through
strong test scores or they can make up

Diversity And Originality Of The Philippine Culture In The...
The diversity and originality of the Philippine culture are outstanding and is heavily influenced by the
Spanish, who brought their own to spice up Philippine s culture, religion, lifestyle, and way of
thinking. It all dates back during 1564; it is one of the most significant years of the Philippine history
for it is a year in which the invasions on the Filipinos by New Spain led by Miguel López de Legazpi
were successful. It was not until later, however, when Legazpi and the Spanish created perennial
settlements around the coasts of Cebu despite heavy opposition from the Cebuanos. Additionally, the
Spanish sought after up and running, albeit small, communities without central governing figures to
perhaps strengthen the rule of the Governor General Legazpi. Around this time, religion began playing
a significant role in the Philippines as the Filipinos were divided between Muslim and Catholic rule.
The former deemed more dominant as the group was much larger than the former, however, things
were bound to change under Legazpi and the Spaniards. Generally speaking, the number of Muslims
in Mindanao and Sulu were much higher than in Visayas and Luzon as the organizations were bigger
and more organized, thus it was easier to start with smaller groups. The Spanish took this opportunity
and decided to Catholicize the small communities before spreading the religion into a much bigger
scale. It became the root of the conflict between Muslim Filipinos and Christian Filipinos. On

The Roaring Twenties And Progressivism
The Roaring Twenties, the Jazz Age, the Age of Intolerance, and the Age of Wonderful Nonsense are
all the names given to the 1920s era (Roaring). People flocked to cities to be part of this great
industrial boom that was taking place. The 1920s was a period of economic prosperity and glamor, but
in time, the glitter of the era would be brushed away to expose the grime that lay just below the
surface (Roaring). The people responsible for this great reveal were called Progressives. The Roaring
Twenties cannot exist without Progressivism. An ideal example of the relationship between the
Roaring Twenties and Progressivism is found in two novels, Upton Sinclair s The Jungle and F. Scott
Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby. In approximately 515 pages combined, the entire era is put on display.
The Great Gatsby shows the charm and fortune associated with the Roaring Twenties, and The Jungle
shows the corrupt and monopolistic features of the era. Mutually, these novels provide a realistic
window for future generations to look back in time, even though both are entirely fiction, and see how
society used to be. They coexisted just as The Roaring Twenties coexisted with Progressivism, and
how the flappers and millionaires coexisted with the immigrants. However, the authors had quite
opposing purposes in mind for what their novels would accomplish in their lifetime, or what they
would symbolize to future generations. The Jungle s purpose exposed sleaze in Chicago s
meatpacking industry and

Reasons To Die In A Zombie Apocalypse
In a zombie apocalypse, the first thing I would do is find a shelter that can suit my needs and protect
me from the weather/attacks/raids/zombies. If you live in a crowded area first hide then in the next
few days go to your hideout and if you live in a less crowded area go to your hideout as soon as
possible. If you survive the first day then your chances of survival has been greatly enhanced. When
the zombies first came the reason why most people died on the first day was because they were in the
open. If you find yourself in an open area then find a hiding place as soon as possible or leave very
quickly. This will give you time and time is going to be your friend in a zombie apocalypse. The next
thing you need to do is think about your situation.

Vertigo As The Archetypal Mystery
Vertigo as the Archetypal Mystery Christopher O Neil Introduction to Film Prof. Michael O Donnell
March 16th, 2015 Alfred Hitchcock s Vertigo is a classic movie of the mystery genre. The film takes
what appears to be a relatively conventional mystery plot and enacts a process whereby it proceeds to
continually fold it within itself in order to develop a film that appears to change its nature several
times, but that nonetheless continues to perpetuate a sense of mystery. Indeed, in many ways the
experience of watching Vertigo is the experience of seeing something essential about the world
unravelling; something that both applies and does not apply to the events of the film itself. This paper
will consider Vertigo as a mystery film, but will also show how the film transcends this genre, or
distils it to such an extent that even when the mystery at its centre has been resolved, it nonetheless
remains almost as unfathomable at is was at start of the film. In essence, the film not only presents the
reconciliation of a mystery within its plot but essentially dramatizes the ineffably mysterious nature of
reality itself. This paper will demonstrate this by paying attention to key scholarship around Hitchcock
and psychoanalysis. Vertigo was made in 1958, at the height of Alfred s Hitchcock s fame as director
and can be considered to be a seminal example of his film making. It was influential in terms of its use
of complex plotting and also its

Annotated Bibliography On Juvenile Incarceration
Annotated Bibliography
THESIS STATEMENT: The Department of Juvenile Justice should provide effective diversion options
as alternatives rather than incarceration to deter juveniles from committing crimes because
imprisonment has done more harm than good, causing depression, suicidal thoughts and more acting
out behaviors.
Annie E. Casey, F. (2011). No place for kids: The case for reducing juvenile incarceration. Issue Brief.
Retrieved from http://www.aecf.org/resources/no place for kids full report/
The report, No Place for Kids: The Case for Reducing Juvenile Incarceration, published by the Annie
E. Casey Foundation, has conducted years of research and found that incarceration has been
unsuccessful, in fact incarceration has done nothing positive and is a failed strategy for fighting crime
among youths. Also in this report, the Annie E. Casey foundation wants the community to work
towards a more productive, humane, and low cost approach to youth diversion programs and
rehabilitation. The report recommends the limitation for correctional placements while the government
invests in non residential alternatives diversion programs, and substitute imprisonment for treatment
oriented facilities for minor crimes and offenses (Casey, 2011). Thus, I think this report will assist me
in supporting my thesis statement since I support diversion programs for juveniles. The Annie E.
Casey Foundation (1990) is a credible government organization and a primary source that focuses on

Reverse Logistic
REVERSE LOGISTICS
DEFINATION:
Flow of surplus or unwanted material, goods, or equipment back to the firm, through its logistics
chain, for reuse, recycling, or disposal.
In other words, reverse logistics is the management of any type of returns from any customer with a
specific purpose. Products can be returned from any player within the supply chain or from the end
user for different reasons. Raw material, work in process or finished goods can be returned when there
are surplus or leftovers during the customer s production due to changes in manufacturing plan.
Products maybe recalled for quality issues. Damaged product/package in delivery amp; unsold product
can also incur returns.
REASONS OF RESERVE LOGISTICS:

* Removal of containers and packaging from response area. * Destruction of spoilt food commodities
and out of date pharmaceuticals. * Return of rejected goods to the suppliers. * Movement of excess or
over supplied goods to other programs or donating to other organizations.
IMPORTANCE OF REVERSE LOGISTICS:
Earlier companies did not pay much attention to reverse logistics. However, now due to consumer
awareness, law enforcement on disposal of certain goods makes it very important for companies to
manage an efficient reverse logistics. Now a days, companies are even getting ISO certification for
their returns process.
Reverse Logistics Activities:
It can include a variety of activities depending on whether the goods are returned from a customer
(end user) or a distributor, whether the goods sent back is a packaging material or a product and
similar other factors. If it is a product then activities like refurbish, recondition, remanufacture,
recycle, landfill, etc. can be performed. If it is a packaging material, reuse, refurbish, recycle, reclaim
material activities are involved. For examples, Coca Cola reuses its glass bottles and reconditions it
before bringing it back in the market. Broken bottles are recycled.
To reduce costs, firms attempt to reuse materials as much as possible. For products that cannot be
reused in anyway due to its poor condition, legal implications, environmental issues, etc. firms then

Relation Between Relation And Social Capital Of The Act Of...
Molm, Shaefer, and Collett (2007) conducted a study to determine whether there was any sort of value
involved with reciprocity. These authors examine the relationship between what is given (referred to
as instrumental values for both reciprocators) and the symbolic values (or the social capital of the act
of reciprocation). They suggest that there are three criteria that must be met to measure the value of
the relationship, which include recurrence across time, uncertainty in reciprocation, and voluntary
(which means that each party must willingly engage in the relationship and the reciprocation). These
three criteria are also things that can be used to examine relationship formation. For example, when

Murray (2005) gives an example of an argument between a couple and how their level of closeness
could impact one s willingness to fuel the argument through reciprocating negative remarks. Murray
(2005) also looked at certain behaviors that would be reciprocated to avoid sending negative
impressions to a potential mate (i.e. feelings of rejection), which include inferences about their partner
s perceptions of risk, inferences about their perceptions of risk, and promoting the relationship versus
promoting self interest. These notions of preserving the relationship even through perceived threats
and risk really help relate how risk reduction reciprocity can be seen in the formation of romantic
relationships. This is seen through the reducing perceived risks and threats by cooperating with
another individual on a more romantic level. For example, if a guy feels lonely, but another guy feels
self conscious about his body, so much so that they may be willing to engage in self harm. Then, it is
possible that by getting involved with one another they reduce the risk that they will engage in self
harm, and they reciprocate by helping one another to gain confidence. Romantic relationships contain
many examples of risk reduction reciprocity, but there is also potential for free riding. For example,
free riders could be cheaters, lovers that don t reciprocate affection, partners that desire lust over love,
etc..., and with these free riders the risk

Sociological Theory
INTRODUCTION TO SOCIOLOGICAL THEORY
Compare and contrast the views of three appropriate sociological perspectives to an area of social life
of your choosing. Why do we act the way we do? Does the mass media really affect the way a people
in a society behave? Sociologists focus on the environment and the social aspects of human behaviour
in order to answer questions like these when studying a particular society. A society is defined as a
large social group that shares the same geographical territory and is governed by the same political
authority and cultural expectations. Culture is defined as the shared values of a society such as
language, beliefs and ways of doing things (Burton, 2013, online). When looking at a society there are

Functionalism was introduced by Emile Durkheim (1858 1917), who is considered by many
intellectual thinkers to be the founder of modern sociology. The main principle of functionalism is that
each part of a society is interdependent and contributes towards making society work as a whole. Each
of these parts has to be working correctly but if something does go wrong then society has
mechanisms to deal with them, such as the police and the legal system. Functionalists also believe that
every social institution has many important functions to perform (Burton, 2013, online). Durkheim
introduced the theory anomie , or lack of social norms , that could cause instability or chaos. This
concept bought to light many instances that could affect a society in a negative way and especially the
behaviour of individuals towards one another (Emile Durkheim org, 2013, online). Another concept
put forward by Durkheim the sum of all of its parts is larger than the whole , defined at the
introduction of the structural/functionalist theory, is as relevant today as it was when first introduced
(Gamble, 2008, Online). Robert K. Merton (1910 2003) is one example of how Durkheim s theories
have lasted through the ages because his theory of anomie was taken directly from Durkheim s
perspective and still remains a major theory in the structure of society, both in criminal justice and
sociology (cited in

Gender Bias In The Workplace
Sexism women still face gender bias in the workplace. The stereotype e.g. women more likely to take
a housekeeping job, secretarial tasks or even be look at taking notes at a college meeting. Ageism it s
been known that because of a person age, he/she been discriminated against for job advancement.
Race refers to the practice of treating people differently because of the race. I have personally heard
on my past job that the manager is looking to hire a Caucasian person, yes this still exists in toady
time. Discrimination will always be a around it will take a miracle for this to come to an end not only
within the workplace.
Problems
The problem with feminist theory is gender free morality may be impossible. In today era, many
people don t agree that women should have equal pay as men within the work place. Even though laws
have been passed to equal pay, however when it comes to equal pay a lot of company still don t
comply with this ruling.
Model
The feminist model is described as conflict resolution. Feminist model aims to resolve inequality on
multiple levels of existence. In addition, feminist model of conflict determination identifies sources of
conflict as results of oppression prolonged by dominant. e.g. if a male and a female walk over to the
automotive service department to get their car work on, and the worker come out and automatic
address the male with the question, how may I help you , the worker is looking at the male as the
dominant person.

Analysis Of Susan Wolf s Description Of The Moral Saint
In this paper, I will explain Susan Wolf s description of the Moral Saint ideal and her objection to this
ideal. Then, I will outline an argument against Wolf s objection and evaluate if said argument will hold
when faced with a counter argument. My thesis is that Wolf s argument for her objection to the Moral
Saint ideal is invalid.
Wolf s central criteria for one to be a moral saint, is to be an individual whose life is absolutely
centered upon the pursuit of only moral virtues, interests, activities, and relationships exclusively for
the maximum improvement of the welfare in others and society as a whole. An example of what Wolf
s moral saint would commit themselves and their time to, is instead of spending time reading books
for their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A counter example is that Wolf s criteria of a moral saint could be adjusted to requiring only one of the
two conditions to satisfy the moral saint ideal, the condition that their actions must be for the
collective welfare of others. This makes it possible to argue that moral saints can commit non moral
acts if they lead to a greater good for the collective in the future, such as investing money into the
stock market to generate a larger donation to a charity later. However, even then the moral saint is
limited in what they can do, as the second condition still requires them to act only for the welfare of
the collective, which limits the variety of what they can pursue in general, including being unable to
learn a skill, pick up a hobby or read a book that will not improve the welfare of the collective in some
form in the future or in the present.
Wolf s argument against the moral saint ideal has a critical flaw, and that is her objection s conclusion.
Wolf s conclusion states that a moral saint does not live the good life, however, the good life does not
have any universally agreed upon definition that needs to be met in order to be true.
Therefore, what defines a good life is completely subjective; so, the definition of a good life can be
logically considered a variable that is undefined and

Essay on Edvard Munch
Edvard Munch is regarded as the pioneer of the Expressionist movement in modern painting. At an
early stage Munch was recognised in Germany and central Europe as one of the creators of a new and
different movement of art, that helped artists to express their feelings about all the social change that
was happening around them.
Munch was born in 1863, and before long he had come to know the intensity of emotional pain. His
father was a doctor who often bought patients to the Munch home. His mother died when Edvard was
five years old, his older sister died of disease at the age of fifteen, and Edvard himself was often ill.
One of his youngest sisters was also diagnosed with a mental illness at an early age. With death and

The woman is depicted as a creature of temptation, a selfish enslaver of men. She embraces the man,
and appears to be sucking the life out of him.
Edvard wrote of the inspiration of the painting in his diary. The paintings showed emotion that had
never been expressed so openly through art before. This painting is laced with hidden meanings, the
faceless clock represents the uncertainty of the artists time left, the bed represents death, the placement
of the figure between these two pieces symbolises the decisions and issues he is experiencing. The
painting depicts a horse pulling a cart, which appears to be dangerously out of control. The body is
distorted, twisted and disfigured with terror.
Edvard Munch s The Scream was painted around the end of the 19th century, and is possibly the first
Expressionist painting. The Scream was very different from the art of its time. During this time artists
tried to paint realistic paintings. Munch was a tortured soul, and it certainly showed in this painting.
Most of his family had died, and he was often plagued by sickness. The Scream was a reflection of
what was going on at the time, and what was going on in Munch s own mind
It seemed to me that I could hear the scream. I painted this picture; painted the clouds as real blood.

Fedex, An International Express Shipping Company
Page 1
Federal Express, or now known as FedEx, is an international express shipping company that ships
anything from envelopes and small packages to large freight. It was the brain child of college student
Fredrick Smith, when in 1965 at Yale a professor assigned the class to invent an industry. At that time
the only option companies had was to utilized passenger routes to ship packages, which was not very
efficient for time sensitive deliveries. Six years later after Smith left the military he bought a small
company and experienced how difficult it was to get supplies delivered within a couple of days.
Remembering the paper he had written in college, Smith founded Federal Express in 1973. Starting
with 14 small planes today it has grown into the world s largest al cargo air fleet.
By 1980 FedEx was way ahead of the competition and the company was growing by 40 percent per
year with 1 billion in revenue. Through many international acquisitions and mergers they have grown
internationally and now delivery to over 220 countries. As the demand for express freight shipments
increased so did the need to ship and receive documents overnight. The overnight letter service was
introduced by FedEx in 1981 and is now a part of standard business practices for most companies in
America and the world. Many companies have multiple overnight deliveries and pickups throughout
the day. FedEx saw the future potential of overnight letter, package and freight deliveries and started

Being Legalized And The Constant Debate Over Abortion
It is evident that today s world is headed in a perpetual downward spiral. With weed being legalized
and the constant debates over abortion, our nation is getting sucked up in the legality of law making
instead of taking a step back and realizing the moral aspects of what they are actually doing. They
seem to have forgotten to ask themselves, What will benefit our future the most? For example, foster
care in America has reversed its principles by merely going through the motions of what the laws
state, rather than actually putting effort into the care and safety of children. I believe that the state
should put more emphasis on sending kids to permanent homes of foster parents instead of reuniting

Foster agencies take the children from these careless homes so that the child will be safe in a foster
home. Growing up around a family who, for example, does drugs is not a good environment for a
child to be around. The instant reaction to this from foster care agencies should immediately be to take
the child from the situation so that it will not be harmed or disoriented by the users.
Once they take the child from the home, they place it in a foster institution which consists of families
who maybe cannot become pregnant or just want to help save lives. The amount of time a child is in
foster care with that family ranges from a month to a year and a half. This time all depends on the
effort the biological parent puts in to getting their kid back. For example, in the state of Texas,
Pathways Foster Care Agency has a process that they go through for family reunification. When a
child is taken away they basically start a timer on the biological parents for them to get their lives
together. During this time a foster family has taken this child in, fed it, clothed it, and basically
accepted it as their own. During the span of a year the biological parent is drug tested continuously.
After the year is up, if the parent has not fulfilled what was expected of them, they go to court for a six

Introduction The island of Iwo Jima is just one of the many islands in the pacific that make up the

of Tokyo. In comparison to most of the other islands in the pacific Iwo Jima is relatively small, in fact
it is only four and a half miles long by two and a half miles wide. The geographic layout of Iwo Jima
consists of a dormant volcano on the northern side called Mount Suribachi and a flat stretch of land to

Even though he had some buildings built to satisfy his command his primary focus was on the
construction of an elaborate system of tunnels underground that connected every part of the island.
The General learned that if he mixed the natural volcanic ash on the island with concrete it mad an
almost indestructible barrier. All together General Kuribayashi built over eleven miles of tunnels
which housed a number of rooms to accommodate all of his needs. On the south side of the island he
constructed an airfield for the Japanese fighter planes to use. When America did attack all of the
buildings were destroyed just as General Kuribayashi predicted. Deployment The American invasion
of Iwo Jima began on February 19, 1945 and continued till March 26, 1945, a battle that only lasted

Analyzing Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill
Introduction The Gulf of Mexico is a valuable nationwide treasure. Its natural deposits water, fish,
beaches, reefs, marshes, oil and gas are the financial engine of the area. USDC (2012) asserts that the
Gulf of Mexico is similarly essential to the whole country as an abundant source of meals, energy and
entertainment. The Gulf Coast s distinct culture and natural charm are world renowned. There is no
location like it anywhere else on Earth (USDC, 2012). USDC (2012) reports that on April 20, 2010
examinations of the world concentrated on an oil platform in the Gulf, around 50 miles off the
Louisiana coastline. The mobile drilling unit Deepwater Horizon, which was being made used to drill
an experimental well for BP Exploration and Production, Inc. (BP), violently blew up, ignited and at
some point sank, tragically eliminating 11 employees. However that was just the start of the
catastrophe. Oil and various other compounds from the rig and the well started streaming unabated
around one mile below the area. Preliminary efforts to cap the wells were not successful, and for 87
days oil ejected unmonitored and uncontrolled into the Gulf. Oil soon enough covered a huge location
of hundreds of square miles, and held by the tides and currents reached the coastline, contaminating
beaches, bays, estuaries and marshes from the Florida panhandle to west of the Mississippi River
delta. At the height of the spill, around 37 % of the open water in the Gulf was closed to fishing.

Using Steroids to Gain the Perfect Body

like a super star, a hero in a Hollywood movie, a strong soldier, and an Olympic athlete. However,
what are the extent people will go to get the perfect body? The biggest problem for those who dream

These steroids are made to emphasize and promote muscle growth but without the masculinizing the
user as much as testosterone does (Silverstein, p.18). Anabolic steroids were first used to help World
War II victims put on weight at the end of the war. Anabolic steroids were intended for the sick
people, but instead of this, healthy people often abuse these steroids because they want to gain muscle
(Morris, p.230).
There are three major benefits from steroid use and they are: first, athletes will attain a greater
increase in lean muscle mass and strength when it is used with a combination of hard training and the
drug; second, the athlete s body suffers less breakdown as this decrease in muscle breakdown and
recovery time permits more frequent training sessions at higher intensity and for longer periods of
time (Lukas, p.7); and third but not least benefit, the increased aggressiveness they are believed to
simulate as this increased aggressiveness may drive athletes to train harder and longer without the
usual fatigue (Rogak, p.11). Other positive effects of using steroids are increases in: storage of muscle
glycogen; blood volume; a general boasting of the immune system; and the reduction of body fat
percentage. The effects are maintained as long as the athlete continues the steroid use (Silverstein,
p.17).
Unfortunately, anabolic steroids have many side effects. Some short term side effects include high

Political Ideas of Niccolo Machiavelli, Francesco...
Political Ideas of Niccolo Machiavelli, Francesco Guicciardini, and Thomas Hobbes
The sections that I will be presenting are 73, 74, and 75. I will discuss the political ideas of Niccolo
Machiavelli, Francesco Guicciardini, and Thomas Hobbes during the time of Florence Republic. First,
Niccolo Machiavelli was born in Florence, Italy in 1469 at a time when the country was in political
upheaval. Italy was divided between four dominant city states, by which each of them was always at
the mercy of the continual changing of princes and governments.
In Donald Kelley s Version of History, the Medici family had brought a form of stability to Florence,

Machiavelli recognizes Lycurgus of deserving the highest praise for the governing of Sparta in
distributing power to the king, the nobles, and the people. He established a government, which lasted
for over eight hundred years. Machiavelli uses the Roman Empire as an example because they
conquered the world and held their power for over a thousand years. They accomplished this from
having strength and stability. Florence needs to replicate the ideologies of Rome in order to become as
powerful and great. Machiavelli wants Florence to adopt these patterns so that ultimately Florence will
have the same success as Rome. In short, I think Machiavelli is emphasizing the importance of
decisive action and courage. He uses bold writings to encourage men, so that they will build a safe and
stable world for people.
Francesco Guicciardini: Section 74 Francesco Guicciardini was born in 1483 and died in 1540, like
Machiavelli he worked for government of Florence and wrote about the history of his city and country
as well as about the politics of his time. His philosophies toward politics were formed after the

however the results and effects of the War were a factor that ultimately led to the collapse of the

The short term impact World War 2 had for the Soviet Union was positive for the growth and
evolution of the Soviet Union. The War both enhanced nationalism, and propelled the Soviet Union to
a major world player. In the eyes of Stalin, WWII was exactly what the Soviet Union needed to evolve
into a great nation. The war created great sense of nationalism and unity that strengthened the core of
the Soviet Union. Just as Stalin had hoped for the Soviet Union became arguably the most
nationalistic world power at the time; looking at the way the Soviet Union fought the war can
reasonably conclude this. The Soviets didn t not fight the war conservatively whatsoever. Stalin and
the Soviet army would take risks and lose lives in the name of defeating fascist enemies. The Soviet
army fought the war as if they re entire societal system was on the line. Ordinary soldiers absorbed the
attitudes of the Nazi and the Soviet leaders. Both sides believed that defeat would lead to annihilation
of their way of life (Suny 343). Another positive impact WWII had on

Summary Of Raymond Bonner s Anatomy Of Injustice
For my second essay, I chose to critique Raymond Bonner s Anatomy of Injustice. It was published in
2012 in the United States by Alfred A. Knopf, a division of Random House Inc. I thoroughly enjoyed
this book. It goes into the profound problems with the Death Penalty in criminal justice. Such as
incompetent lawyers, racial profiling, and wrongful convictions. In particular, the Case of Edward Lee
Elmore. In January 1982, a white South Carolina widow named Dorothy Edwards was found dead in
the closet of her bedroom in Greenwood. The crime shocked the town, not merely because it happened
but because it was exceptionally bloody. As a forensic pathologist testified in the murder trial that
followed soon after, she had thirty three ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They consulted no independent experts, no pathologists, no fingerprint specialists. They didn t even
read the police interviews with the witnesses, which the prosecution had turned over to them by law.
They simply were plowed under by William Townes Jones III, Greenwood s renowned, powerful and
feared prosecutor, who had a ferocious temper and a reputation as a bit of a bully. Rather than fight
Jones, Anderson and Beasley accepted the state s case more than they challenged it, even though there
were tremendous holes in the case.
The case was loaded with doubt. There were doubts about fingerprints, about the charge of rape that
prosecutors added to the murder charge and in particular about the role played by Jimmy Holloway,
the neighbor who was so friendly with Edwards that he had a key to her house and liked to slip over in
the afternoon for a cocktail. Some people thought there was more to the relationship between
Holloway and Dorothy Edwards than just being good neighbors. It was Holloway who had led police
to her body and who had given them an elaborate tour of the death scene. A decade later, when a
lawyer named Diana Holt read Holloway s testimony, she was dumbfounded. Eventually Holt came to
believe that Holloway might have killed Edwards in a fit of jealousy; he knew that she was planning
to remarry and a lovers quarrel ensued, with fatal results. Since all parties to the encounter are now
dead, her

Semi Truck Collision
A high speed collision with any vehicle can be devastating. However, a high speed collision of a car
with a semi truck often has a grim outcome for the motorist. The rear underride guards of semi trailers
don t offer much in the way of a crumple zone for absorbing impact energy.
Damaged or rusted guards offer virtually no protection at all. In addition, hitting one at an offset (with
the front left or right side of your car) causes severe damage to the car and may demolish the area
occupied by the driver or right front passenger. Finally, a high speed collision with the side of a trailer,
which lacks an underride guard, can shear off the top half of a car.
How do these car/truck accidents happen? Often when the semi truck is invisible. In ... Show more

Fog obscures clear visual references that you rely on to judge speed, and produces the illusion of
going too slow. This phenomenon, combined with an impaired ability to judge distance, can cause a
fatal delay in applying the brakes when you do sense that you re closing in on a truck. Slow down and
keep an eye on your speedometer. Don t out drive the distance that you can see in front.
Trucks with Dirty Trailer Lights and Reflectors
Without working lights or reflectors, the trailer of a semi truck at night is invisible. It s rare for a
trucker to drive around with all of his trailer lights burnt out. On the other hand, lights and reflectors
covered in dirt, mud, or salt are more common. Dirt covered lights and reflectors are just as hazardous
as not having them at all.
What appears to be an oncoming semi truck in the opposite lane could be a truck pulling into the lane
from a side road to your right. The lights you see are the tractor s headlights in the opposite lane. What
you don t see is the invisible trailer crossing your path in front of you. Here is an animated simulation
of this with a truck pulling a flatbed

Essay On Polycystic Ovary Syndrome
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a serious chronic medical
condition of the endocrine system that affects women, which can cause infertility in women of
reproductive age. Women with PCOS have abnormal cysts in at least one of their ovaries which cause
the eggs not to fully mature and be released during ovulation. The female reproductive organs are the
uterus, ovary, and fallopian tubes. The ovary is located laterally left to uterus and inferior to the
fallopian tubes. An ovary contains about two million follicles oocyte at birth. Majority will die off and
few will matured throughout life cycle. The anterior pituitary gland secrete follicles stimulation
hormones (FSH) in the blood, to mature oocyte in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These are the common symptoms associated with PCOS. Women with PCOS have irregular
menstruation or amenorrhea and tend to develop hirsutism known as an increase in unwanted hairs,
especially on the face, legs, stomach, chest, and back. Some of the additional symptoms are high
cholesterol, high blood pressure, Pelvic pain, acne, skin tags, weight gain, oily or dry skin, patches of
skin on arms, breast and neck and anxiety (Thornton et al, 2015).
.
Complication
PCOS can cause inability to conceive and miscarriages in women. Sleep apneas can lead to heart
attack to occur. There is a high risk of developing endometrial cancer in women with PCOS because
the innermost layer is not shedding; overtime the cells from endometrium develop into uterine cancer.
It can spread to other regions of the body. Another complication of PCOS is liver disease can occur
due to the inability of the liver to metabolize the excess glucose secreting in the body which can lead
to insulin resistance, eventually the development of type 2 diabetes in PCOS patients (Caserta,
Adducchio, Picchia, Ralli, Matteucci, Moscarini, 2014).

Examples Of Controlling Language In Animal Farm
Why Controlling Language Is More Powerful Controlling language is a more powerful utility of
communication because it fears and manipulates the listener into what you want them to do or follow.
Like many sovereigns through the ages who have ruled with fear and control to retain supreme power.
One example is the pig Napoleon from George Orwell s book, Animal Farm. Napoleon uses
controlling language to force animals into kicking out their farmer Mr. Jones, even if not everyone
wants to rebel. The book Animal Farm is an extended metaphor for the Russian revolution. Animal
Farm is about a farm where the animals that the farm contains take over, and kick out their farmer Mr.
Jones. By working and keeping a stamina of power, the animals are able to contain a well working,
rising farm.Throughout the book there are many contradictions with who will withstand supreme
power. Napoleon from the book uses manipulation through controlling language to hold all power. As
Niccolo Machiavelli explains in his book The Prince, every ruler should not try to be nice because the
leaders who do rule with fear and control will crush the ones who try to be good and fair. These are all
examples of how people who dominate with controlling language. Although there is uplifting
language, it does not work as well as controlling communication because it usually less potent.
Napoleon from Animal Farm uses controlling language to gain the rule of the animals. Napoleon is a
power hungry nuisance in the

The Flaws and Shortcomings of African Historiography Essay
The Flaws and Shortcomings of African Historiography
History is formed through a combination of personal experiences, psychological state, personal
objectives, relation with the interviewer, position in society and many other factors that cannot be
scientifically monitored and accounted for. Thus, no historian has been able to filter through the many
layers they need to in order to arrive at an accurate account of history. What personal narratives and
life histories provide are numerous examples of the complexities and ambiguities that accompany any
reconstruction of African history. Each account of history does not offer a different perspective from

The definitions range from pirate , describing the actions of the raiders from Scandinavia; some say it
is a reference to the people from Viken (Oslo Fjord); still others use the word to describe the entire
ethnic group originating in the Scandinavian countries of Norway and Sweden.
(http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2004/02/0217_040217_vikings.html) The word Viking is
actually derived from the Old Norse word vikingar and is exclusively applied to men, usually those
who sailed from Scandinavia in groups to engage in the activities of raiding and trading in Britain,
Europe and the East. (http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/ancient/vikings/women_01.shtml) nbsp; nbsp;

Berlioz Ide Fixe Analysis
The idée fixe mentioned in Berlioz program was a French term, borrowed from contemporary
psychology, for obsession. The idée fixe went beyond mere fascination or attraction into disordered
thinking and to Berlioz was more than a musical motif; it was an affliction that caused physical
symptoms such as muscle twitches and nervous anxiety. Indeed, after Harriet Smithson initially
rejected Berlioz, he was distraught. He stopped sleeping, and he wandered the city at night, sometimes
falling asleep in an open field or slumped over a café table. This disorder thinking and behavior was
described by Berlioz himself and by psychology at the time as monomania, a mental disease in which
a person has an obsession that drives them to the point of desperation and sometimes melancholy.
Monomania is then seen as a Romantic illness, afflicting the creative and the hero, and this illness
played a central role in Berlioz conception of the Artist, afflicting ... Show more content on

The repeated motive provided a sense of programmatic continuity as well as unified the entire
symphony. The idée fixe represented the hero s imagining and obsession with his beloved. It is an
unusually phrased melody, an unbalanced 15 measures in length. Mollod stated that this motive
represents the protagonist s complex feelings toward the beloved, a figure who will turn out to be both
his imagined savior and his tormentor. Langford writes that the innovation of the symphony is not the
idée fixe, but the way that Berlioz transformed the melody through cyclical repetitions of it throughout
the symphony. The source of inspiration for this compositional technique was Beethoven s fifth
symphony, which Berlioz heard two years prior to writing the Symphonie Fantastique. In each
movement, the idée fixe personifies in a different form and in different frequencies, expressing the

St. Athanasius Against Arian Heresy
St. Athanasius Against the Arian Heresy
The St. Athanasius greatly impacted the Arian heresy. The Arian heresy was very well rooted, and St.
Athanasius is recognized as the main Church Father to fight it. The heresy of Arianism started in the
early 300s. It was starting to gain followers, so the Church called for the Council of Nicea. The Nicene
Creed was made during this Council, and it rebuked the teachings of Arianism, which made it an
heresy. Arianism soon rose back from the ashes, and many Church members were turning to it out of
fear or corruption. St. Athanasius stayed strong throughout all of this, continuing to preach and write
of the heresies of Arianism. He survived five exiles and died peacefully in his bed in the Alexandrian
See. Arianism didn t just appear out of thin air, it had a start just like all other heresies. The founder of
Arianism was Arius. Arius was a priest in Alexandria, who had studied in Antioch. Some of the
subjects of his studies were the works of Origen, Neoplatonism, and Gnosticism. He then started to
preach that Jesus was sent by the Father, however not equal to the Father. He said that Jesus was only
called the Son of God because of his heroics. Athanasius was the main opponent of this heresy, ...

fully. Athanasius then shows in his writing how Gregory was supported by the Arians, and that the
Arians are doing this to keep him out. Athanasius ends the letter with an appeal to the other members
of the Church to get Gregory out of

The Importance Of Work In The Workplace
For many employed people, a workplace is like a second home. According to the Organisation for
Economic Co operation and Development in 2016 in the United States, the annual hours actually
worked per worker on their main job is 1,783 hours (OECD, 2017). The atmosphere of a workplace
contributes to the mental and emotional wellness of its employees and the productivity of an
organization, as a whole; therefore, it is important to establish consistent house rules or guidelines to
communicate to both management and employees how to conduct themselves for the goodwill of the
company and its people. Every person at an organization brings a diverse set of individual needs and
motivations apart from the company s primary agenda. Despite their commitment to perform their
specific work responsibilities while in the workplace, each person obligates himself or herself to non
work urgencies that can produce interruptions within the boundaries of their required duty to an
organization (Casper DePaulo, 2012). Such non work urgencies may involve a spouse or a child for a
partnered employee; therefore, many organizations establish family friendly policies in consideration
of a partnered employee s life outside of the workplace or the exceeding obligations of a person with
parental responsibilities (Casper DePaulo, 2012, p. 232). Family friendly policies could include a
flexible work schedule with the option to telecommute some days, or extra time off to care for an ill

The U-Boat
Another major way US forces combatted the U Boat was by utilizing advancements in technology in
both World War I and World War II. During World War I advancements in technology mainly included
the use of aircraft in war. Before World War I airplanes had never been used to fight a war, therefore
when World War I broke out and planes were sent into battle this was new technology (Lansford).
During World War I aircraft were used to combat U Boats in two ways, by supplementing them to
convoys, and by using them to drop aerial bombs (Lansford). Aircrafts were added to convoys for
various reasons these reasons included the fact that an aircraft could see more terrain than a surface

One of the major reasons aerial bombings were so effective was due to the angle of sight aircrafts had,
they could see exactly where the U Boat was versus the guessing surface vessels had to do to know
how far away a U Boat was. Another reason aerial bombings were so effective was due to the fact that
aircraft were quicker than surface vessels and did not have to come so close to the U Boat and be
noticed to drop their depth charges. These aerial bombings were very effective in destroying U Boats,
they were essentially depth charges dropped from an aircraft and worked basically the same way.
These aerial bombs were not dropped on the U Boat rather right behind or in front of it as to allow the
shock wave to destroy the U Boat not the impact (Lansford). The utilization of aircraft was on of the
major ways the US and its allies combatted the U Boat during World War I. During World War II
technological advancements mainly included radar and sonar. Radar and Sonar were two different
technologies used for the same purpose, to detect U Boats. Radar was invented around the beginning
of World War II (Lansford), while Sonar was invented late in the first world war (Fontenoy, Sonar ).
Sonar worked by doing two things at once, emitting sonic pulses and receiving

Perceptual Disorders That Can Disrupt Visual Perception
In the following essay an attempt will be made to look at the different perceptual disorders that can
disrupt visual perception. Efforts will be made to compare (which by definition is the pointing out of
differences and similarities) and it will also attempt to contrast (by pointing out the differences) in a
logical and factual way. To do this, it is important to first define what is (a) meant by Visual perception
and what it is thought to (B)encompass, and the (c) different perceptual disorders that may
consequently lead to a disruption in this visual perception. The following account will culminate in a
factual recording of the effect these disorders may have on the individual and the resulting disruptions
that may occur within visual perception.
(A) Explained as simplistically as possible, Visual perception itself is the ability to interpret one s
surrounding environment by, processing information through the eye to the brain. The eye is a sense
organ which is part of the sensory system which in turn transmits information about one s
environment to the brain.
(B) The eye sees its environment by using light, at first the image of one s environment is perceived as
upside down but their eye changes this image to the correct way around; this process is called
Reception. The image is then transformed from electromagnetic energy to electrochemical energy; this
process is called Transduction. At this point the energy is transmitted along the individual s optic

  • 3. Diversity And Originality Of The Philippine Culture In The... The diversity and originality of the Philippine culture are outstanding and is heavily influenced by the Spanish, who brought their own to spice up Philippine s culture, religion, lifestyle, and way of thinking. It all dates back during 1564; it is one of the most significant years of the Philippine history for it is a year in which the invasions on the Filipinos by New Spain led by Miguel López de Legazpi were successful. It was not until later, however, when Legazpi and the Spanish created perennial settlements around the coasts of Cebu despite heavy opposition from the Cebuanos. Additionally, the Spanish sought after up and running, albeit small, communities without central governing figures to perhaps strengthen the rule of the Governor General Legazpi. Around this time, religion began playing a significant role in the Philippines as the Filipinos were divided between Muslim and Catholic rule. The former deemed more dominant as the group was much larger than the former, however, things were bound to change under Legazpi and the Spaniards. Generally speaking, the number of Muslims in Mindanao and Sulu were much higher than in Visayas and Luzon as the organizations were bigger and more organized, thus it was easier to start with smaller groups. The Spanish took this opportunity and decided to Catholicize the small communities before spreading the religion into a much bigger scale. It became the root of the conflict between Muslim Filipinos and Christian Filipinos. On ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Roaring Twenties And Progressivism The Roaring Twenties, the Jazz Age, the Age of Intolerance, and the Age of Wonderful Nonsense are all the names given to the 1920s era (Roaring). People flocked to cities to be part of this great industrial boom that was taking place. The 1920s was a period of economic prosperity and glamor, but in time, the glitter of the era would be brushed away to expose the grime that lay just below the surface (Roaring). The people responsible for this great reveal were called Progressives. The Roaring Twenties cannot exist without Progressivism. An ideal example of the relationship between the Roaring Twenties and Progressivism is found in two novels, Upton Sinclair s The Jungle and F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby. In approximately 515 pages combined, the entire era is put on display. The Great Gatsby shows the charm and fortune associated with the Roaring Twenties, and The Jungle shows the corrupt and monopolistic features of the era. Mutually, these novels provide a realistic window for future generations to look back in time, even though both are entirely fiction, and see how society used to be. They coexisted just as The Roaring Twenties coexisted with Progressivism, and how the flappers and millionaires coexisted with the immigrants. However, the authors had quite opposing purposes in mind for what their novels would accomplish in their lifetime, or what they would symbolize to future generations. The Jungle s purpose exposed sleaze in Chicago s meatpacking industry and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If you live in a crowded area first hide then in the next few days go to your hideout and if you live in a less crowded area go to your hideout as soon as possible. If you survive the first day then your chances of survival has been greatly enhanced. When the zombies first came the reason why most people died on the first day was because they were in the open. If you find yourself in an open area then find a hiding place as soon as possible or leave very quickly. This will give you time and time is going to be your friend in a zombie apocalypse. The next thing you need to do is think about your situation. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Vertigo As The Archetypal Mystery Vertigo as the Archetypal Mystery Christopher O Neil Introduction to Film Prof. Michael O Donnell March 16th, 2015 Alfred Hitchcock s Vertigo is a classic movie of the mystery genre. The film takes what appears to be a relatively conventional mystery plot and enacts a process whereby it proceeds to continually fold it within itself in order to develop a film that appears to change its nature several times, but that nonetheless continues to perpetuate a sense of mystery. Indeed, in many ways the experience of watching Vertigo is the experience of seeing something essential about the world unravelling; something that both applies and does not apply to the events of the film itself. This paper will consider Vertigo as a mystery film, but will also show how the film transcends this genre, or distils it to such an extent that even when the mystery at its centre has been resolved, it nonetheless remains almost as unfathomable at is was at start of the film. In essence, the film not only presents the reconciliation of a mystery within its plot but essentially dramatizes the ineffably mysterious nature of reality itself. This paper will demonstrate this by paying attention to key scholarship around Hitchcock and psychoanalysis. Vertigo was made in 1958, at the height of Alfred s Hitchcock s fame as director and can be considered to be a seminal example of his film making. It was influential in terms of its use of complex plotting and also its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Annotated Bibliography On Juvenile Incarceration Annotated Bibliography THESIS STATEMENT: The Department of Juvenile Justice should provide effective diversion options as alternatives rather than incarceration to deter juveniles from committing crimes because imprisonment has done more harm than good, causing depression, suicidal thoughts and more acting out behaviors. Annie E. Casey, F. (2011). No place for kids: The case for reducing juvenile incarceration. Issue Brief. Retrieved from http://www.aecf.org/resources/no place for kids full report/ The report, No Place for Kids: The Case for Reducing Juvenile Incarceration, published by the Annie E. Casey Foundation, has conducted years of research and found that incarceration has been unsuccessful, in fact incarceration has done nothing positive and is a failed strategy for fighting crime among youths. Also in this report, the Annie E. Casey foundation wants the community to work towards a more productive, humane, and low cost approach to youth diversion programs and rehabilitation. The report recommends the limitation for correctional placements while the government invests in non residential alternatives diversion programs, and substitute imprisonment for treatment oriented facilities for minor crimes and offenses (Casey, 2011). Thus, I think this report will assist me in supporting my thesis statement since I support diversion programs for juveniles. The Annie E. Casey Foundation (1990) is a credible government organization and a primary source that focuses on Juvenile ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In other words, reverse logistics is the management of any type of returns from any customer with a specific purpose. Products can be returned from any player within the supply chain or from the end user for different reasons. Raw material, work in process or finished goods can be returned when there are surplus or leftovers during the customer s production due to changes in manufacturing plan. Products maybe recalled for quality issues. Damaged product/package in delivery amp; unsold product can also incur returns. REASONS OF RESERVE LOGISTICS: The reasons for ... IMPORTANCE OF REVERSE LOGISTICS: Earlier companies did not pay much attention to reverse logistics. However, now due to consumer awareness, law enforcement on disposal of certain goods makes it very important for companies to manage an efficient reverse logistics. Now a days, companies are even getting ISO certification for their returns process. Reverse Logistics Activities: It can include a variety of activities depending on whether the goods are returned from a customer (end user) or a distributor, whether the goods sent back is a packaging material or a product and similar other factors. If it is a product then activities like refurbish, recondition, remanufacture, recycle, landfill, etc. can be performed. If it is a packaging material, reuse, refurbish, recycle, reclaim material activities are involved. For examples, Coca Cola reuses its glass bottles and reconditions it before bringing it back in the market. Broken bottles are recycled. To reduce costs, firms attempt to reuse materials as much as possible. • 9. Relation Between Relation And Social Capital Of The Act Of... Molm, Shaefer, and Collett (2007) conducted a study to determine whether there was any sort of value involved with reciprocity. These authors examine the relationship between what is given (referred to as instrumental values for both reciprocators) and the symbolic values (or the social capital of the act of reciprocation). They suggest that there are three criteria that must be met to measure the value of the relationship, which include recurrence across time, uncertainty in reciprocation, and voluntary (which means that each party must willingly engage in the relationship and the reciprocation). These three criteria are also things that can be used to examine relationship formation. For example, when meeting someone for the first time, a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Murray (2005) gives an example of an argument between a couple and how their level of closeness could impact one s willingness to fuel the argument through reciprocating negative remarks. Murray (2005) also looked at certain behaviors that would be reciprocated to avoid sending negative impressions to a potential mate (i.e. feelings of rejection), which include inferences about their partner s perceptions of risk, inferences about their perceptions of risk, and promoting the relationship versus promoting self interest. These notions of preserving the relationship even through perceived threats and risk really help relate how risk reduction reciprocity can be seen in the formation of romantic relationships. This is seen through the reducing perceived risks and threats by cooperating with another individual on a more romantic level. For example, if a guy feels lonely, but another guy feels self conscious about his body, so much so that they may be willing to engage in self harm. Then, it is possible that by getting involved with one another they reduce the risk that they will engage in self harm, and they reciprocate by helping one another to gain confidence. Romantic relationships contain many examples of risk reduction reciprocity, but there is also potential for free riding. For example, free riders could be cheaters, lovers that don t reciprocate affection, partners that desire lust over love, etc..., and with these free riders the risk ... • 10. Sociological Theory INTRODUCTION TO SOCIOLOGICAL THEORY Compare and contrast the views of three appropriate sociological perspectives to an area of social life of your choosing. Why do we act the way we do? Does the mass media really affect the way a people in a society behave? Sociologists focus on the environment and the social aspects of human behaviour in order to answer questions like these when studying a particular society. A society is defined as a large social group that shares the same geographical territory and is governed by the same political authority and cultural expectations. Culture is defined as the shared values of a society such as language, beliefs and ways of doing things (Burton, 2013, online). When looking at a society there are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Functionalism was introduced by Emile Durkheim (1858 1917), who is considered by many intellectual thinkers to be the founder of modern sociology. The main principle of functionalism is that each part of a society is interdependent and contributes towards making society work as a whole. Each of these parts has to be working correctly but if something does go wrong then society has mechanisms to deal with them, such as the police and the legal system. Functionalists also believe that every social institution has many important functions to perform (Burton, 2013, online). Durkheim introduced the theory anomie , or lack of social norms , that could cause instability or chaos. This concept bought to light many instances that could affect a society in a negative way and especially the behaviour of individuals towards one another (Emile Durkheim org, 2013, online). Another concept put forward by Durkheim the sum of all of its parts is larger than the whole , defined at the introduction of the structural/functionalist theory, is as relevant today as it was when first introduced (Gamble, 2008, Online). Robert K. • 11. Gender Bias In The Workplace Sexism women still face gender bias in the workplace. The stereotype e.g. women more likely to take a housekeeping job, secretarial tasks or even be look at taking notes at a college meeting. Ageism it s been known that because of a person age, he/she been discriminated against for job advancement. Race refers to the practice of treating people differently because of the race. I have personally heard on my past job that the manager is looking to hire a Caucasian person, yes this still exists in toady time. Discrimination will always be a around it will take a miracle for this to come to an end not only within the workplace. Problems The problem with feminist theory is gender free morality may be impossible. In today era, many people don t agree that women should have equal pay as men within the work place. Even though laws have been passed to equal pay, however when it comes to equal pay a lot of company still don t comply with this ruling. Model The feminist model is described as conflict resolution. Feminist model aims to resolve inequality on multiple levels of existence. In addition, feminist model of conflict determination identifies sources of conflict as results of oppression prolonged by dominant. e.g. if a male and a female walk over to the automotive service department to get their car work on, and the worker come out and automatic address the male with the question, how may I help you , the worker is looking at the male as the dominant person. ... • 12. Analysis Of Susan Wolf s Description Of The Moral Saint In this paper, I will explain Susan Wolf s description of the Moral Saint ideal and her objection to this ideal. Then, I will outline an argument against Wolf s objection and evaluate if said argument will hold when faced with a counter argument. My thesis is that Wolf s argument for her objection to the Moral Saint ideal is invalid. Wolf s central criteria for one to be a moral saint, is to be an individual whose life is absolutely centered upon the pursuit of only moral virtues, interests, activities, and relationships exclusively for the maximum improvement of the welfare in others and society as a whole. An example of what Wolf s moral saint would commit themselves and their time to, is instead of spending time reading books for their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A counter example is that Wolf s criteria of a moral saint could be adjusted to requiring only one of the two conditions to satisfy the moral saint ideal, the condition that their actions must be for the collective welfare of others. This makes it possible to argue that moral saints can commit non moral acts if they lead to a greater good for the collective in the future, such as investing money into the stock market to generate a larger donation to a charity later. However, even then the moral saint is limited in what they can do, as the second condition still requires them to act only for the welfare of the collective, which limits the variety of what they can pursue in general, including being unable to learn a skill, pick up a hobby or read a book that will not improve the welfare of the collective in some form in the future or in the present. Wolf s argument against the moral saint ideal has a critical flaw, and that is her objection s conclusion. Wolf s conclusion states that a moral saint does not live the good life, however, the good life does not have any universally agreed upon definition that needs to be met in order to be true. Therefore, what defines a good life is completely subjective; so, the definition of a good life can be logically considered a variable that is undefined and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At an early stage Munch was recognised in Germany and central Europe as one of the creators of a new and different movement of art, that helped artists to express their feelings about all the social change that was happening around them. Munch was born in 1863, and before long he had come to know the intensity of emotional pain. His father was a doctor who often bought patients to the Munch home. His mother died when Edvard was five years old, his older sister died of disease at the age of fifteen, and Edvard himself was often ill. This painting is laced with hidden meanings, the faceless clock represents the uncertainty of the artists time left, the bed represents death, the placement of the figure between these two pieces symbolises the decisions and issues he is experiencing. The painting depicts a horse pulling a cart, which appears to be dangerously out of control. The body is distorted, twisted and disfigured with terror. During this time artists tried to paint realistic paintings. Munch was a tortured soul, and it certainly showed in this painting. Most of his family had died, and he was often plagued by sickness. • 14. Fedex, An International Express Shipping Company Page 1 Federal Express, or now known as FedEx, is an international express shipping company that ships anything from envelopes and small packages to large freight. It was the brain child of college student Fredrick Smith, when in 1965 at Yale a professor assigned the class to invent an industry. At that time the only option companies had was to utilized passenger routes to ship packages, which was not very efficient for time sensitive deliveries. Six years later after Smith left the military he bought a small company and experienced how difficult it was to get supplies delivered within a couple of days. Remembering the paper he had written in college, Smith founded Federal Express in 1973. Starting with 14 small planes today it has grown into the world s largest al cargo air fleet. By 1980 FedEx was way ahead of the competition and the company was growing by 40 percent per year with 1 billion in revenue. Through many international acquisitions and mergers they have grown internationally and now delivery to over 220 countries. As the demand for express freight shipments increased so did the need to ship and receive documents overnight. The overnight letter service was introduced by FedEx in 1981 and is now a part of standard business practices for most companies in America and the world. Many companies have multiple overnight deliveries and pickups throughout the day. FedEx saw the future potential of overnight letter, package and freight deliveries and started to ... First, Niccolo Machiavelli was born in Florence, Italy in 1469 at a time when the country was in political upheaval. Italy was divided between four dominant city states, by which each of them was always at the mercy of the continual changing of princes and governments. The war created great sense of nationalism and unity that strengthened the core of the Soviet Union. Just as Stalin had hoped for the Soviet Union became arguably the most nationalistic world power at the time; looking at the way the Soviet Union fought the war can reasonably conclude this. The Soviets didn t not fight the war conservatively whatsoever. Stalin and the Soviet army would take risks and lose lives in the name of defeating fascist enemies. The idée fixe went beyond mere fascination or attraction into disordered thinking and to Berlioz was more than a musical motif; it was an affliction that caused physical symptoms such as muscle twitches and nervous anxiety. Indeed, after Harriet Smithson initially rejected Berlioz, he was distraught. He stopped sleeping, and he wandered the city at night, sometimes falling asleep in an open field or slumped over a café table. This disorder thinking and behavior was described by Berlioz himself and by psychology at the time as monomania, a mental disease in which a person has an obsession that drives them to the point of desperation and sometimes melancholy. Monomania is then seen as a Romantic illness, afflicting the creative and the hero, and this illness played a central role in Berlioz conception of the Artist, afflicting ... The idée fixe represented the hero s imagining and obsession with his beloved. It is an unusually phrased melody, an unbalanced 15 measures in length. Mollod stated that this motive represents the protagonist s complex feelings toward the beloved, a figure who will turn out to be both his imagined savior and his tormentor. Langford writes that the innovation of the symphony is not the idée fixe, but the way that Berlioz transformed the melody through cyclical repetitions of it throughout the symphony. The source of inspiration for this compositional technique was Beethoven s fifth symphony, which Berlioz heard two years prior to writing the Symphonie Fantastique. • 31. St. Athanasius Against Arian Heresy St. Athanasius Against the Arian Heresy The St. Athanasius greatly impacted the Arian heresy. The Arian heresy was very well rooted, and St. Athanasius is recognized as the main Church Father to fight it. The heresy of Arianism started in the early 300s. It was starting to gain followers, so the Church called for the Council of Nicea. The Nicene Creed was made during this Council, and it rebuked the teachings of Arianism, which made it an heresy. Arianism soon rose back from the ashes, and many Church members were turning to it out of fear or corruption. St. Athanasius stayed strong throughout all of this, continuing to preach and write of the heresies of Arianism. He survived five exiles and died peacefully in his bed in the Alexandrian See. Arianism didn t just appear out of thin air, it had a start just like all other heresies. The founder of Arianism was Arius. Arius was a priest in Alexandria, who had studied in Antioch. Some of the subjects of his studies were the works of Origen, Neoplatonism, and Gnosticism. He then started to preach that Jesus was sent by the Father, however not equal to the Father. He said that Jesus was only called the Son of God because of his heroics. Athanasius was the main opponent of this heresy, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Circular Letter was in response to Gregory of Cappadocia s intrusion into the Alexandrian See. He wrote about Gregory sending Jews and barbarians into the churches of Alexandria to attack the people, how the Jews were making sacrifices of birds on the altar, and how monks were beaten and killed. He also wrote that Gregory allowed these men to plunder the church, in order to win them over fully. Athanasius then shows in his writing how Gregory was supported by the Arians, and that the Arians are doing this to keep him out. • 32. The Importance Of Work In The Workplace For many employed people, a workplace is like a second home. According to the Organisation for Economic Co operation and Development in 2016 in the United States, the annual hours actually worked per worker on their main job is 1,783 hours (OECD, 2017). The atmosphere of a workplace contributes to the mental and emotional wellness of its employees and the productivity of an organization, as a whole; therefore, it is important to establish consistent house rules or guidelines to communicate to both management and employees how to conduct themselves for the goodwill of the company and its people. Every person at an organization brings a diverse set of individual needs and motivations apart from the company s primary agenda. Despite their commitment to perform their specific work responsibilities while in the workplace, each person obligates himself or herself to non work urgencies that can produce interruptions within the boundaries of their required duty to an organization (Casper DePaulo, 2012). Such non work urgencies may involve a spouse or a child for a partnered employee; therefore, many organizations establish family friendly policies in consideration of a partnered employee s life outside of the workplace or the exceeding obligations of a person with parental responsibilities (Casper DePaulo, 2012, p. 232). Family friendly policies could include a flexible work schedule with the option to telecommute some days, or extra time off to care for an ill partner or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. The U-Boat Another major way US forces combatted the U Boat was by utilizing advancements in technology in both World War I and World War II. During World War I advancements in technology mainly included the use of aircraft in war. Before World War I airplanes had never been used to fight a war, therefore when World War I broke out and planes were sent into battle this was new technology (Lansford). During World War I aircraft were used to combat U Boats in two ways, by supplementing them to convoys, and by using them to drop aerial bombs (Lansford). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the major reasons aerial bombings were so effective was due to the angle of sight aircrafts had, they could see exactly where the U Boat was versus the guessing surface vessels had to do to know how far away a U Boat was. Another reason aerial bombings were so effective was due to the fact that aircraft were quicker than surface vessels and did not have to come so close to the U Boat and be noticed to drop their depth charges. These aerial bombings were very effective in destroying U Boats, they were essentially depth charges dropped from an aircraft and worked basically the same way. These aerial bombs were not dropped on the U Boat rather right behind or in front of it as to allow the shock wave to destroy the U Boat not the impact (Lansford). The utilization of aircraft was on of the major ways the US and its allies combatted the U Boat during World War I. During World War II technological advancements mainly included radar and sonar. Radar and Sonar were two different technologies used for the same purpose, to detect U Boats. Radar was invented around the beginning of World War II (Lansford), while Sonar was invented late in the first world war (Fontenoy, Sonar ). Sonar worked by doing two things at once, emitting sonic pulses and receiving ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
