`` Moral Machines `` By Robert J. Sawyer And Gary Marcus
Myths are a good representation of how technology works in a society. This is due to their
valuable lessons which relate the impact of technological history on society over a period of time.
Two authors by the names of Robert J. Sawyer and Gary Marcus elaborate the connection between
science fiction and ethics to technology which compares to Prometheus s myth. Sawyer explains
the relationship in her essay The Purpose of Science Fictionin which he justifies that sciencefiction
can portray the outcomes of futuretechnology. Marcus justifies this connection in his essay Moral
Machines when he describes how automated machinery should include ethical moralities in
reference to how they are being used in real life scenarios. Sawyer and Marcus reveal the
relationship of science fiction and ethics to technology which relates to the themes of Prometheus
through science fiction and ethical motives. Prometheus was well known for giving the human
race the gift of fire. He delivered fire to the world by stealing it from Zeus due to a conflict
between the two. Prometheus was punished for his wrongdoing in which Zeus chained
Prometheus to a boulder so an eagle would come to eat his liver every day. Prometheus s actions
can represent a theme of progress in which he helps humans proceed around nature s boundaries.
Humans encounter obstacles in their lives to achieve a better life and live comfortably, but the fire
is the stepping stone to human success. Prometheus s gift to the world

The Ratio Of A Hedge Funds
We will extend our findings about undercapitalization in Table 4 based on our conclusions from
Table 3. From Table 3, we know that there are 222 undercapitalized live hedge funds, and it
consists only 8.1% of all the live funds. From this we can reach the conclusion that only a small
fraction of live hedge funds are undercapitalized. Most of the live hedge funds (about 91.9%) can
stay out of the risk of being undercapitalized. While the undercapitalized ratio for dead funds is
12.3%, so more dead funds are undercapitalized compared with the ratio of live funds. Since the
ratio of undercapitalization plays an important role in determining the performance of a hedge fund,
we will take a further look into the details of undercapitalization in Table 4. We list a number of
variables that would usually have influence on the cap ratio. By comparing the different variable
values under the category of adequately capitalized funds and under capitalized funds, we can
determine the key elements that would usually influence the cap ratio of a hedge fund. Table 4
also illustrates the comparative characteristics between live and dead hedge funds. We can specify
the characteristics in the following points. First, the mean of the net asset for the undercapitalized
live funds is $88.4 million and the corresponding value for the capitalized funds is $206.1 million.
The huge difference between these two values means a positive condition in the capital adequacy
of the live funds. More live hedge

Essay on Student Athletes Should Not Be Paid
Student Athletes Should Not Be Paid In the world of college athletics there are endless topics
discussed daily and most pertain to money. An issue that falls under this category includes the
heated debate involving whether or not student athletes should receive money. Many people say
student athletes should receive compensation according to their specific needs because they spend
so much time earning their scholarship and have no time to work. On the other hand, the stronger
argument is student athletes should not be able to acquire additional funds in order to help aid
them through college. An athlete knows what he or she is involving themselves in before any
money issue is even brought up. Signing a letter of intent shows that... Show more content on

Actions towards paying athletes are being taken and according to the TCU Daily Skiff, There s
a legislation being passed around in the Big 12 states to provide athletes with an extra stipend in
addition to their all expenses paid education. The idea is that these students are producing
truckloads of revenue for the university and should see some of the fruits of their labor.
(Jennings, par. 2) Because athletes aren t paid for producing such money, supporters feel some
of the money made should go towards helping with extra expenses. An average student athlete
has to pay for phone bills, transportation, entertainment, laundry, toiletries and other things. While
the typical college student has the opportunity to work, athletes don t. Some students in college
receive academic full ride scholarships, which are the same as athletic full rides, but they have
time to earn extra money on the side. If these students are receiving a full ride scholarship and
have the opportunity to work then an athlete should be paid a compensation for his or her efforts
on the playing field. On the contrary, there is a reason the NCAA has not passed a law saying
athletes should be paid and numerous reasons support this view. In fact according to NCAA
rules, Section 2, Title V reads, It is a violation of the NCAA rules for athletes to accept money or
gifts while intending to remain eligible. (Way, par. 16) There is a reason for this law and why it
has not changed. Individuals

The Theme Of Anger In Frankenstein
Frankenstein: A Story of Love and Anger
Frankenstein, will teach you a life lesson on the different ways to deal with anger and to accept
love. It is a tale that involves two characters who have, until the onset of this story, dealt with
love and anger in very similar ways. Intensely this book is said to have been, A tale so
overpowered with sources and origins that it has gained a reputation in literary circles as the most
protean and disputable of even Romantic texts. ( Hetherington 4) Victor Frankenstein is
empowered with the drive to do something so great with his life that he creates a monster in this,
he believes, will bring him fame and happiness soon. It becomes very apparent that love and
happiness are not to be found. On the other hand, the scientist loses many loved ones, then the
monster seeks to find love and seems to always fall short. Throughout the novel, Victor
Frankenstein and his amazing creation, a Monster , share many characteristics while expressing the
emotions of anger and love. This well known story and its characters portray one of the greatest
romantic horror stories to which have ever been written.
Victor Frankenstein is a well put together young man, who strives to be a scientist, one of which
whom does something great. Something, so great that he will one day, be one of the characters in
the books he had read during his studies at the University of Ingolstadt. A scientist, achieving his

How Irrigation Changed Yuma
This essay will be about how irrigation has helped Yuma ever since the dams and irrigation first
started. If those two things had never been builded Yuma wouldn t be what it is today, the
population will be way lower than what it is today and Yuma would be alone.
Question 1:
Describe in detail how irrigation changed Yuma/ Southern Arizona: One of the many things that
irrigation changed Yuma was by it expanded Yuma s population by 80%. Yuma used to be a very
unpopulated area. Phoenix, Tucson, and Las Vegas have the biggest basin. One of the biggest
reasons on how Yuma got very populated was because of the project called Yuma Project. For this
project to get authorized President Theodore Roosevelt turned the abandoned Fort Yuma Military

irrigation projects.

From:
Date: December 12, 2015
RE: Implementation and Reporting for Hedge Accounting
Facts:
Thomas Foods wishes to insulate the company from the financial blow of large increases in the
prices of produce from local farmers. The main factor that would cause this unexpected change in
price that Thomas Foods should be concerned with is the possible fluctuation of weather conditions.
Thomas Foods is interested in determining whether or not hedge accounting would be the best
solution to protect the company s operating income. If the company elects to implement a hedge
accounting system, the Controller of the company must be informed of the accounting treatments
involved when dealing with cash flow and fair value hedge accounting, the two most common
forms of hedge accounting.
Issues:
1.Will implementing a hedging strategy help to alleviate the risks of price increases and benefit
Thomas Foods financially when it comes to purchasing produce from local farmers?
2.Which hedge accounting strategy or alternative method will be most beneficial to Thomas Foods
and ensure minimal loss in operating income?
3.How can the accounting treatments of the newly implemented strategy be best explained to the
Controller of Thomas Foods?
Conclusions:
1.Hedge accounting strategies are best implemented when dealing with transactions from the
original source. In this particular situation, the local farmer would be considered the original source
because he

The Unfair Political System During The French Revolution
Social reform during the French Revolution developed due to the unfair political system, brutality
perpetrated by the first estate, and the living conditions the lower class lived through, nevertheless,
the violence and genocide committed in order to create reform were immoral. Prior to the French
Revolution, people of influence abused the political system in order to allow them to live in luxury.
The government consisted of the first, second and third estate. The First Estate is composed of
kings, queens, and other royalty personnel which is around one percent of the population. The
Second Estate consists of nobles and clergy, which is equivalent to one percent of the population.
Lastly, is the Third Estate which ranged anywhere from the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

During the time of the French revolution people of the first estate, second estate, and citizens who
work for the said estates, were generally murdered violently either by mob attacks or the
Guillotine. The citizens of the third estate essentially wanted revenge on these people. The
guillotine originally was used by the first estate to punish the lower class, for example; if a citizen
from the third estate did not pay their taxes or they somehow disrespected a leader of power they
would be sent, as punishment, to the guillotine and be put to death. Ironically, throughout the
duration of the French revolution, the citizens who were previously affected by this tyranny used
the same tactics in order to create social reform. The citizens of the first estate would brutally force
people of power to death or subdue them to violent torture. An example of this could be when a
man named Flouon justly needed to be punished for crimes he had committed however the mob of
citizens brutally murder him by hanging him on a lamppost and then putting his head [upon] a pike
(II.22.223). In addition to this, another example of the violence and brutality committed in order to
create social reform is The Storming of the Bastille. The Bastille was a prison in France, which
essentially represented the authority of the upper estates, many low class citizens were imprisoned
there for unjust reasons. the time of the French revolution came around the citizen liberating the
prison not only freed prisoners, they killed many of the authority residing there unjustly and

Influence of Baroque Music to Classical Music
CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
Music of any period reflects, in its own way, some of the same influences, tendencies, and
generative impulses that are found in the other arts of that time (Donna, 2005). Thus the word
baroque, usually used despairingly by eighteenth century art critics to describe the art and
architecture of the seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries, came to be applied also to the music
of the seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries. After some years after the death of Johann
Sebastian Bach, the ornate, formal and strict form of the High Baroque became old fashion and
lost its favor. Music slowly began to change form the style and forms of the High Baroque to a
simpler yet tuneful form around 1750. The period ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
New forms of polyphonic music were developing because baroque composers felt that the art of
counterpoint was essential to their artistry.
On the other hand, the homophonic method (a musical technique that displays a vast separation
amongst the melody line and the accompaniment) was gaining acceptance and use quite rapidly
(The Baroque Era). The homophonic musical style played a significant role in opera and solo
vocal music because it focused the listener s concentration in the poetic melody of the singer.
Most pieces in baroque music have the basso continuo which gave way to uniformity and unity.
Basso continuo, or figured bass, is an accompaniment which consists of a bass part with numbers
which specify the chords to be played above it. Musical works containing a continuo part helped to
convey harmonic support of chords under the melodic line (The Baroque Era). Kamien (2008)
states that basso continuo is usually played by at least two instruments: an organ or harpsichord and
low melodic instrument like the cello or bassoon.
Kamien (2008) also adds that the organist of harpsichordist plays the bass part with the left hand
which is also played by the cellist or bassoonist. With the right hand, the keyboard player
improvises chords or melodic line by following the numbers. Because the numbers only indicate a
basic chord, the performer has a wide field of freedom.
With continuity of rhythm and melody, baroque music also features continuity of dynamic level.

Effects Of Beauty On The Labor Market Essay
It has become increasing clear that beauty may play a role when it comes to social interactions
involved in economic or political opportunities. Now, one may ask how beauty could possibly play
a noticeable impact on situations concerning economic or political opportunities. Yet, it does. A
laboratory experiment was conducted to fully study the impact of beauty premium , the positive
association and relationship between attractiveness and wages, on economic success in the labor
market. The experiment was conducted by Tatyana Deryugina, a professor of finance and her
companions. Although illegal, labor market discrimination has occurred based on physical
appearances and Tatyana wanted to test this notion. Deriving from this experiment, they were able
to conclude that the beauty premium does indeed exist although only in certain circumstances. Only
in tasks such as bargaining does beauty premium significantly show a positive correlation. In other
tasks such as analysis or data entry, the notion of beauty premium does not exist. They state, we find
that the beauty premium in bargaining completely vanishes in the second round of bidding when
the task is repeated, which suggests that employers learn quickly that performance is uncorrelated
with attractiveness (Deryugina 2015). The point is that physical beauty is what deceives the mind
into thinking that the more attractive one is, the more competent they may be in performing and
executing skills such as bargaining.

Literacy, Opportunity, And Economic Change
This critique will be of chapter one of the book Literacy in American Lives. The author of this
book is Dr. Deborah Brandt, a professor of English at Wisconsin Madison University and her
main focus in Literacy in American Lives is to study about how people have learned to read,
how they use their ability to read, and how literacy learning changes with time. In this first
chapter Literacy, Opportunity, and Economic Change , Brandt focuses on how economic change
can affect the value of literacy, and the impact that this change in the value of literacy has in the
lives of two farm women from Wisconsin. For the main evidence of her work in chapter one
Brandt goes into the personal stories of two women by which she has given the names Martha
Day and Barbara Hunt. Martha Day grew up on a farm in a time near the 1920 s; she did well in

asked her to manage a monthly news letter about the out pouring of agricultural articles from the
local university and stations. Eventually, Day started to write her own articles and moved into the

The media has also been a criticized industry because of their often critical stances on issues.
Despite this fact, little is actually know about the people who produce the content that is so heavily

stories of these individuals who are often.
Written in 1973, a year after the dramatic Presidential election of 1972, the boys on the bus shows
the election from a unique perspective. A few distinct contrast are shown that highlight the truth
behind journalism. The first is the comradery and competition amongst journalist, second is the
human side of the candidates, and lastly is the way scandals are covered. Within these topics, the
boys on the bus gives takes the reader on the unique journey that is known as the campaign trail.
The mix of comradery and competition between journalist is shown throughout the book. Outlined
in many ways, this balance shows the true nature of journalism. One great example of this takes
place in the beginning of the book. Here the many reporters are hustling to become the first to

The Race to Space
The tension that existed between the U.S. and Russia during the years after WWII was not only
a time that both countries patiently tried to keep the world from another war, but was also a
time of great rivalry in the exploration of space. As both counties diligently experimented with
plans for creating a way to get into the vastness of space, spies on both sides were already in
place to steal those ideas. And so the space race begun. Both countries wanted to be the first to

Plato s Laws And Xenophon s Hiero
Practically in all his discourses, Plato wrote about the works of Socrates that acted as the main
persona in his confabs. In Plato s laws and Xenophon s Hiero, a further wise man other than
Socrates acted as the leader of the discourse. While having protagonist confabs in Plato s and
Xenophon s works, Socratestries to interrogate understanding of the further man on the aspect of
morality. Socrates presented himself as a less knowledgeable person in the domain of moral
issues to confuse the other person who boasts of being more knowledgeable on the same. Using
this ironical approach known as the Socratic Irony , Socrates was able to illustrate inconsistency of
the other person s views on morality. Although the early and middle works of Platoare considered as
Socratic dialogue, understanding the composition and chronology of Plato s work is a bit
complex since even the ancient sources do not present these works chronologically. Plato s work
basically involved posing questions and answers as a way of stimulating critical thinking. Defender
of a particular point of view would be questioned, and then one of the parties would contradict
himself in order to confuse his counterpart and in doing so, the defender would be made weak.
Socrates discourses revolved around traditions, justice, afterlife and education. In light to this, this
paper will unravel Socrates accounts balance Aristophanes and Xenophon s on afterlife, justice and
law, education and traditional practices. In

Different animals have different grouping names and to most people it seems like just a random

ambush means an act or instance of lying concealed so as to attack by surprise. Despite these two

Essay about Teaching Goals and Philosophy
Teaching Goals and Philosophy
Entering the field of education requires a person to take on many very important responsibilities.
Teachers play a very vital role in the lives and futures of many individuals. Through the perspective

This child needs to be reassured that this is okay, everyone learns by different methods and at
different rates. For some students, encouragement is very important. For example, if a child is not
receiving the necessary encouragement from his or her parents to do well in school, then they may
not see the importance in it.
More time and attention should be given to those students who need it. Teachers should pay
attention to the special needs of their students and do whatever they can do to fulfill them. While
some students are more independent and seem to have no problems studying and progressing with
the material given to them, others need to be instructed and guided on a one on one basis by the

Also, agreeing with the Pragmatic method, I feel strongly about hands on approach to learning. I

The Importance Of Creon In Shakespeare By Sophocles ...
In Antigone, it is generally believed that the gods possess limitless power and are able to control
the fate of every mortal, no matter how powerful. However, there are also people who believe that
they can change their fate, only if they have enough power. Creon, the most powerful mortal in the
play, is one of those people. Due to the unmatched amount of power he has over Thebes, Creon
feels he is able to challenge the gods and the fate given to him. After attempting to do so, he finds
himself stuck with a tragic fate, resulting in the loss of everything dear to him, including his power.
Sophoclesuses Creon as a way to show that everyone has a physical limit, but not a mental limit.
When our thoughts and beliefs cause us to act beyond that physical limit, fate will always be there
to provide the acceptable consequences.
The play introduces Creon as a character whose power enables him to do as he pleases. After
becoming the king of Thebes, he immediately recognizes his power. Shortly after being introduced
into the play, Creon passes a proclamation stating, Never at my hand will the traitor be honored
above the patriot. (Lines 232 233). Due to his personal beliefs towards the sons of Oedipus, Creon
passes a law forbidding the burial of Polynices, the brother who fought against Thebes during war.
In no attempt to object, the Leader responds saying, The power is yours, I suppose, to enforce it
with the laws, both for the dead and all of us, the living. (Lines 238 240).

In Japan the buyer is the master and the seller is like a servant. This changes the whole dynamic
of how products are sold and marketed. The seller is concerned with what the buyer wants,
rather than what they want to sell. When the customer s interest is put before the profit of the
company, this can lead to strong and lasting relationships between the buyer and seller.

Feminism and Art History
The history of mankind has often been captured in snapshots between the rise and fall of great
leaders and civilizations, by artists all with a common dream of portraying what they saw during
their times. Ideologies reflective of their societies were depicted through sculptures, frescoes,
pottery, paintings, and many other methods. Many of these principals were created, celebrated,
and popularized by constituents of societies where andocentric values were applied not only to
social and political mores, but also to the various art forms as the male body was cherished and
praised and the female body was hidden away from public view. The book Feminism and Art

Kampen concludes by discussing how the image of women portrayed the idealistic views of
women as caretakers who stayed at home , and works of art supported this by depicting women
as В…mythological or entertaining, or as an adjunct to the patron s own status; otherwise she
might not appear. (pg. 74) The author believes that the artists were in denial of the experiences
of working women and that s why the views of working women were limited. The visual
portrayals of gender and status in Roman society stand as a bridge linking the work of art and
the work of society together as one. The final chapter that I read was one I found extremely
conflictant and interesting because not only did we touch on some of these topics in class, but
when I visited the Metropolitan Museum I actually had some of the same issues with the works I
saw there. Eve and Mary: Conflicting Images of Medieval Woman by Henry Kraus, was by far
one of the more fascinating chapters and discussed the distorted views of women as vessels that the
Devil could use to entrap a man and cause him to fall from God s grace, during medieval times and
reinforced by the Catholic Church. Monasteries were places that men could go and abstain from
worldly pleasures, proving their dedication to God and refraining from anything that could cause
them to sin either physically, emotionally, and especially spiritually. During the fourteenth century,

The And The Sacrifice Of Isaac By Peter Paul
A painting is a scene, frozen in time. Artists can bring them to life. Catching the emotions of
whatever is depicted. The bible is full of memorable scenes, with thousands of years of art to
capture the intensity of the stories.
My Journey to The Sacrifice of Isaac by Peter Paul Rubens begin when I saw a painting at the
Nelson Atkins Museum of Art almost six years ago in a grand room, with tens of other paintings
and high, echoing ceilings. I stood in front of a massive, Renaissance era piece. Without looking at
the title or artist s statement, I knew it was of Abraham sacrificing Isaac. It had the iconic look of
one of the most infamous stories from the bible.
And when I remembered that painting, years later, I knew that would be the focus of this paper.
So, with my painting in mind, I went to KSU online Hale Library ARTstor Abraham and Isaac .
But there were too many paintings. And the majority of them looked the same. After clicking
through about a dozen paintings from the Louvre, of Rembrandt and Domenichino and not finding
the specific painting from my memory, I went to the Nelson Atkins website and then cross
referenced with the list ARTstor was offering. The painting was Peter Paul Rubens The Sacrifice
of Isaac and I can say, details get lost in memory.
The painting, for the most part, kept with the scripture. Considering the scripture was bare bones
when it came to description, that wasn t an impossible feat. The binding of Isaac was similar in the

Comparison Of Interstellar, By Christopher Nolan, And...
We all dream of an ulterior world, a world in which we picture a perfect life with no struggles,
problems, or pandemics. Both Interstellar, by Christopher Nolan, and Station Eleven by Emily
Mandel, depict their characters as struggling not only with survival, but their sense of their own
identity and security. Within Station Eleven, the saying, survival is insufficient is a recurring
theme of Interstellar as well. While there are some differences in the characters and themes within
Interstellar and Station Eleven, the similarities are the connections to their identity in which they
adapt to the force of change within their world. As the characters struggle with adapting, they cling
to certain things that allow them to remain sane. As a result, the characters feel like they have a
purpose again due to their struggle for survival.
Within their harsh and collapsing worlds, Murph and Kirsten are the puzzle pieces that connect
their stories together. For example, Murph cracks the code of the theory of gravity with the help of
her ghost, her father within the third dimension, providing her the missing information that saves

The Advent of the Insurance Industry
As modern society emerged, insurance became a necessary factor in life. We as a population
became overly aware of the many dangers of life. Not only did these dangers represent a hazard to
our lives, but our posessions as well. Aspects of our lives like our homes, vehicles, and health
represent a majority of the coverage in the modern insurance industry. However, when studying the
industry, it is important to understand the emergence as well as the outcome. Even though different
forms of insurance can be traced back to the first millenium, the first notable industry began in
Europe. The first noted insurance contracts originated in 14th ... Show more content on

The company set out to insure brick and frame homes at first. Initially, 5,000 homes were insured
by Barbon s agency. After Barbon s initial success, many similar companies followed suit. Much
like most economic trends, success is ultimately followed by competition. At first, each property
insurance company employed their very own fire unit to fight the impending hazards. They also
began distributing Fire insurance marks to their customers. These marks were displayed above
doorways to represent ownership of fire insurance. This way, the employed fire unit would know
what houses to save in the event of an incident. This system was soondubbed a bad idea, as rival
units often ignored burning buildings once they discovered they did not carry their partner s
insurance policy. Eventually, a solution was agreed upon in which all the insurance companies
would pay their resources to a municipal authority. This authority would then use the combined
money and equipment to fight all fires throughout the territory. This did not solve the problem
entirely, as the different units still tended to favor saving insured buildings to those without any
insurance at all. In Colonial America, the first insurance company that underwrote fire insurance

Social Mobility Of Poor Kids Should Depend On College...
Social Mobility of Poor Kids Should depend on College Education Andrew Simmons, author of the
article The Danger of Telling Poor Kids That College is the Key to Social Mobility, argues that
educators have utilized one tool in the toolbox to inspire minority students into believing that their
upward social mobilityis dependent on four years of college education. These educators only
considered the difference in earning power of college graduates versus high schoolgraduates to
buttress their argument. With so much emphasis on going to college, Simmons also contends that
the educators miss the boat and end up causing harm to the poor students. There is no denying that
poor students start from disadvantaged position compared to their white counterparts in high
school, their career parts seem to via in two different directions. Many of the poor students
gravitate towards the liberal arts colleges while the privileged kids dream of medical or law
schools and becoming future doctors and lawyers. Simmons offers the study conducted by Jean
Anyon as another example of how schools teaching poor students from low income families
emphasize keeping students busy and managing behavior, while a middle class school
deemphasizes individual expression and in depth analysis and reward the dutiful completion of
specific rote tasks. Because the educators have stressed so much on attending college, thirty two
percent of students end up with a major they never intended to, or

Peeking Behind the Masks In Cold Blood, Streetcar Named Desire, and Fences
In life, we all attempt to project some kind of personality to others. We have a mask we wear in
different situations, but when times get tough, we eventually discard our masks and become our
true selves. We don t live behind our masks until the tragic end, like the characters of In Cold Blood
by Truman Capote, Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams, and Fences by August Wilson.
The three characters, Perry Smith, Blanche DuBois, and Troy Maxson wore masks to their bitter
endings, always trying to fool everyone else. When times got tough, they had to face themselves,
and they could not stand the sight.

Harris states that DuBois masks her life. She doesn t want to face what she really is. The worst
horror for her in her mind is for anyone else to see her true self.
The audience does see it almost right away, and they know from the first representation of
DuBois that they are in for something else. Williams sets up DuBois scenes so the audience can
quickly ascertain her true personality. The audience is, however, aware that baths and light bulbs
have a meaning for Blanche apart from their functional existence (Corrigan 575). Mary Ann
Corrigan writes that DuBois is far from perfect, and the audience can see just that in her drinking
of alcohol and her slight comments towards her sister and brother in law (575). Yet, the whole
time she is hiding behind her mask, she tells everyone she only has a drink once in a while, and
she needs her baths to relax.
The audience cannot mistake that Dubois does know who she really is, and what her situation
holds for her. For this reason, she chooses to hide behind her mask of a southern belle, with her old
dresses, rituals, and paper shaded light bulbs (Vogel 505).
Dan Vogel states in his book The Three Masks of American Tragedy,
She is beyond the capability of even attempting to control and manipulate the world about her.

The Possible Links Between Cellphone Uses and Tumors
1.How do cellphones work? These work by the signals which are transmitted to and can be
received from the base station (usually located close by) through RF wave. RF wave is a type
of electromagnetic wave with a frequency range of 300GHZ widely used in radio
communication and in applications such as heating. RF waves along with FM waves,
microwaves, visible light and heat come under non ionizing radiation. RF does not cause cancer.
These waves are different from radiations i.e. x rays, gamma rays and UV rays. These radiations
can destroy the chemical bonds that make up DNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid). At higher levels the
RF waves can raise the temperature of the body. But the RF waves emitted by the cell phones are
generally of lower energy level and hence it does not affect body temperature. 2.How are people
exposed to RF waves? RF waves require more energy for long distance transmission. The energy at
the transmitting antenna in cellphone will greater than the energy received by the receiving
antenna of the cellphone (loss of energy during long distance transmission). When a customer
communicates using cellphone which is in contact with their ear (either left or right) the maximum
energy at the transmitting antenna of the cellphone during communication will be directly absorbed
by that ear. The ear that is closest to the phone will absorb more energy that the ear that farther
away. It also depends on factors such as: 1.Amount of time the cellphone is being used

What is a classic war novel? A typical war novel consists of a heroic figure that somehow saves the
day. However, The Red Badge of Courage is a little different, with more struggle and conflict.

and become a good soldier. The articles that are being looked at include; Critical Evaluation from

It talks about his backstory, how he came to write the novel, and how he influenced others. Then,
the article goes into the book, telling the general idea behind it. The article shows that the novel is
not a conventional war story because of Henry s actions. This essay flat out says the theme, The
Red Badge of Courage is not a conventional historical novel (The 100 best novels). This article
wants the reader to know this point is true. A typical novel wouldn t have the main character
running away from the enemy, however, this is exactly what Henry did, he, too, threw his gun
down and fled. There was no shame in his face. He ran like a rabbit (42). As soon as one man
started to run away, Henry was right behind him, running even faster. That s not what a war hero is
supposed to do! He should be fighting the battle, not running away from it. Again an essay states
that Henry is not confident in war, when fighting breaks out around him, Fleming s courage
deserts him (The 100 best novels). A classic war character has courage and valor even when in
the face of the enemy but Henry has neither. When the battle starts Henry loses his hope, the
noises of the battle were like stones; he believed himself liable to be crushed (43). Once more
Henry is not a great soldier, although he does become one. Henry eventually becomes a good
soldier but he is not a natural like most conventional war stories. With Henry losing courage and
running away, The Red Badge of Courage is not a classic war

Lord s Resistance Army Essay
The Lord s Resistance Army is one of the longest running and most violent armed groups in
Africa. The US State Department reports that it has been active since 1986, it was formed in
northern Uganda to fight Uganda s government. It has a sordid and violent history including the
forcible recruitment of over 66,000 children for both sex slaves and child soldiers. The longevity
and continued activity of the Lord s Resistance Army can be attributed to its leader, Joseph Kony.
The Lord s Resistance Army was created due in part to the Holy Spirit Movement which was
founded in the 1980 s to represent the Acholi people of northern Uganda. Kony founded the L.R.A
in order to combat Uganda s government headed by President Yoweri Museveni.
The Lord s Resistance Army has never been a popular movement, it has never had the support of
the citizenry in the countries in which it operates. Although it was created in Uganda, it has
operated in the Central African Republic, Southern Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of the
Congo. The supposed mandate of the L.R.A when it was conceived was to create a theocratic style
state in Uganda based on the 10 commandments of the Bible.

My Last Duchess is about an individual from the respectability conversing with a minister
concerning his keep going spouse, who later on in the sonnet is uncovered to have been killed by
the individual talking, who is going to wed his second wife. Porphyria s Lover gives an
understanding into the brain of an uncommonly possessive significant other, who slaughters his
partner keeping in mind the end goal to catch that impeccable snapshot of empathy (Afsari 12).
Porphyria s Lover utilizes a rotating rhyme plot amid the greater part of the ballad aside from
toward the end. The entire ballad is just a single stanza long, and each line in the stanza includes
eight syllables.
In My Last Duchess, the Duke takes a gander at the artistic creation of his last duchess and trails
off to the past. He talks about the admirers of the Duchess excellence and the coy responses of the
Duchess of them. At that point, he talks about how he closes this by executing the Duchess.
In My Last Duchess, the speaker is passed on as being controlling, pompous, malevolent, and
whimsical. The Duke hints at desire and over assurance towards his first spouse. Then again, the
storyteller in Porphyria s Lover is depicted as who has put some distance between realities,
somebody obviously crazy. There a couple of clues that this character might be desolate and pulled

Education As A Core Element Of Generating Quality Human...
Sociopolitical context Education is acknowledged to be one of the seven priorities of Kazakhstan
2030 Strategy. As it is particularly stated in state policy documents, the common goal of education
reforms in Kazakhstan is to adapt the education system to global socio economic environment
(State Program on Development of Educationin the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2011 2020).
Kazakhstan is on the way of its transformation to be one of the 50 most competitive countries in the
world. To achieve this ambitious goal, the country is overhauling its educational system to be able
to produce quality human capital as it will significantly result in benefit for economy and society
(Bhuiyan, 2011). Therefore, gifted educationis considered to be a core element of generating
quality human capital; hence, a great deal of resources has been investing into education in order
to implement strategies to provide a high quality education for gifted children (Hernandez Torrano
Abisheva, 2013). There are a lot of issues beyond gifted education in terms of identifications,
perceptions, teaching methods, peculiarities and etc. Nowadays, different ways of supporting and
organizing gifted children s activities are being discussed by the majority of scholars. For instance,
according to Kazakhstani scholars (Damitov et al., 2006; Damitov et al.,2009) the importance of
practical activities, scientific and educational research is prioritized in several policy documents

Living Life with Heart Failure Essay
Life with Heart Failure
What is the first disease that you think of when asked? Of all the diseases that could be
mentioned Heart Failure, HF, is one that many have heard of or that has affected a loved one.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention heart failure affects nearly 5.1
million Americans of all ages and is responsible for more hospitalizations than all forms of cancer
combined. It is the number 1 cause of hospitalization for Medicare patients and this process can
begin early in adulthood from poor diets and smoking habits. HF may go undetected by the client
months after the disease starts, which leaves little options for treatment when symptoms are
prevalent. As with any disease process early teaching from a ... Show more content on

Treatment of Heart Failure first starts with identifying the underlying cause of the disease and
improving the efficiency of the contractility of the heart. Medications that are often used in the
treatment of HF are: Digoxin, which raises the contractility of the heart, high efficacy diuretics,
which eases edema and eases the workload of the heart, Angiotensin Converting Enzyme, reduces
blood pressure by dilating blood vessels, Anticoagulants, which prevents the blood from
coagulating therefore reducing the risk of heart attack, and beta blockers. There are a few surgery
options for patients; Coronary artery bypass surgery is the most common surgery for patients with
CF, if patients have coronary artery blockages cardiac surgeons can either graft or bypass the
effected artery, with a new artery for the part of the heart experiencing ischemia. Valve
replacement surgery is a good option for patients who are experiencing aortic valve leaks or
valves needing reshaping/ reinforcement . LVAD systems, left ventricle valve assist device, are
used for those patients who are diagnosed with end stage heart failure; this device works by
physically helping your heart pump blood throughout your body which alleviates some of the stress
for the heart until a heart transplant or the end of life. The final option is for a heart transplant; the
diseased heart is replaced with a donor heart.

Should There Be A Latin Language In High School
U.S. public high schools should offer a Latin as a foreign language program because the benefits
for students education will outweigh the cost. Most high schools at least offer Spanish and
French, which makes sense since the US bordering countries are Spanish speaking Mexico and
French speaking Canada (at least partially). One reason to add Latin to the current language
options is because it continues to influence living languages even though it is considered a dead
language. Because of this, through Latin, students will be able to understand English and other
languages better. More than half of the English vocabulary is derived from Latin [1], and if
students were taught even minimal skills in the Latin language, it could improve spelling and
usage skills among many other good results. People often call Latin a dead language [2]. This is
because no one has Latin as their native language. While this is true, there are plenty of documents
from history in Latin, including religious and philosophical texts. The ability to read these texts...

They believe the complexity of the language would intimidate students and be useless. To assume
that students are not curious about this mysterious unattainable language is silly. Some students in
high school feel like they are not challenged enough by their available criteria. Latin could be a
fun and challenging way to learn something new and useful for the student. Another way to make
this new program possible is to combine it with lessons on the language of Ancient Greece. While
Latin is more prominent, Greek as well has an influence on our world today. These classes could
also teach culture or mythology, but here we are focusing more on the language policy. By
combining the classes, interest from students will rise and the risk of creating the class

Elvis Presley Biography Essay
The first time I heard the name Elvis Presley was on the day he died. It was August of 1977, and
we had just moved into a new house. My father, returning home after running some errands, told
my mother that he heard on the radio Elvis was dead. I had no idea who this person was, yet I
could tell by the looks on their faces he was someone pretty important. My mother dug out her
original 45 single of Hard Headed Woman , but it was an album she bought a few days later,
featuring all of Elvis s number one hits (Hound Dog, Love Me Tender, Jailhouse Rock, and a
slew of others) that finally introduced me to the King of Rock and Roll. It was around this time
that I also saw my first Elvis movie, Love Me Tender, though I only watched half of it. Over the
years, I would catch bits and pieces of other Presley vehicles, including Jailhouse... Show more

In the 1983 book Rating the Movie Stars, which was published by the folks at Consumer Guide
magazine, writer Joel Hirschhorn called Presley s movies a series of silly, tailor made vehicles ,
adding that his fans didn t seem to mind his total lack of talent as an actor . While I m certainly
no expert on Presley s film career (in fact, I m an absolute novice), Hirschhorn s statement strikes
me as being a bit harsh. In Viva Las Vegas, at least, Elvis proved himself a competent comedic
performer (a late scene in which he intentionally ruins the Count s dinner date with Rusty has some
funny moments), and he and co star Ann Margret had great chemistry together (according to the
tabloids, their romance continued even when the cameras weren t rolling). And, of course, Elvis is
given several opportunities throughout the movie to do what he did best, belting out such
memorable tunes as the title number, Come On, Everybody , and a spirited cover of Ray Charles

Analysis Of Preston s Story Essay
Preston s story is one that will strike you at heart, but make you question why you ever thought
you had it rough. He was born into a family consisting of him and his mother. There were
struggles amongst this family right off the get go. Preston s life has been full of hardships but
God has shaped his future into something beautiful. Preston s mother was a teen mom who was
impregnated at the age of 16 and gave labor at 17. His father was not present from the beginning
of his life and has not made an attempt to help raise him and support his mom. It would be
extremely difficult to be a teen and still have to raise a child on your own. Introduced to Preston
at age seven was his soon to be step dad and his two siblings. This was good for him and his
mother but ended up to be a tough situation for Preston. Preston felt that his step father treated his
step brother and sister better than he treated him. Which made some difficulties throughout his
life. Preston was born and raised in Iowa. He originated from the town of Le Mars. Preston had
his first fight for his life at the age of five. His mom being only 22 years old had to go through one
of the hardest things a parent can go through. Preston was diagnosed with bacterial meningitis and
was hospitalized for multiple months. Throughout this brutal battle, Preston was read his death

Essay on Elizabeth Cady Stanton s Fight for Equality
Elizabeth Cady Stanton was not just a mother, daughter, feminist, and writer; but she is the
woman who changed the lives of women everywhere by fighting for equality. Stanton lived a
normal childhood, but one that motivated her to never give up hope in reaching her goal. A quick
background of her life will help better understand why she became such a powerful woman s rights
activist. Also, what she accomplished that changed history and how it still affects us today in 2011.
I will also express my individual satisfaction with what this incredible woman has done for women
everywhere. On November 12, 1815 Elizabeth Cady Stantonwas born to the Cady family in

Stanton accomplished great things although; she did not actually experience what her
accomplishments resulted in. She was an advocate for women s suffrage and that was her goal.
She died before she could see her wish come true, but all her hard work and accomplishments made
it happen. Along with her friend and partner Susan B. Anthony, Stanton began her fight for women
s rights in politics after the American Revolution. She organized the first national women s rights
convention in Seneca Falls (Gordon, 2009). This was the first time that the advocates for women s
rights formally organized. At this convention Stanton also co authored the Declaration of
Sentiments which really was the Declaration of Independence for women (Gordon, 2009). These
women knew how powerful the original Declaration of Independence was in the US, and they were
hoping to do the same. This showed the people who women are in the same situation that the US
was with Britain before the revolution. Writing the Declaration was a huge step because without it
they couldn t really illustrate how severe their situation really was. Another accomplishment was
the enactment of the married women s property statute in 1848. Stanton and her followers were
determined to see change in the property rights of women. In England, women had no

Evolution Of The Company And The Competitive Environment
Evolution of the Company and the Competitive Environment
From the time of its founding, the Cleveland Clinic never wanted to replace family physicians.
Instead they hoped to be utilized as secondary specialists that would be used as further consults that
were beyond the scope of the family practitioner. Although this style of practicing is still used in the
system today, the Cleveland Clinic has had to overcome many challenges and has implemented
many changes in order to maintain this system. Since it s founding the organization had operated
with just a Board of Trustees. With issues rising between the older and younger generation of
leaders in the organization and the lack of a succession plan left by the original founders, it was
suggested that a Medical Survey Committee be formed. In 1954, the Medical Survey Committee
drafted a report stating the issues that the Cleveland Clinic was facing and how establishing a
Board of Governors could help solve some of the issues (Clough, 2004). Some of these issues
included: the lack of a democratic process, the legal status, the research and educational institutions
needed to be strengthen, the medical needs of the community needed to be evaluated in order to
ensure that the proper services were being offered, and the patient care needed to be improved
(Clough, 2004). With these issues and suggestions in mind the Cleveland Clinic made a new
organizational plan. First, the newly formed Board of Governors would handle any matters that

Visual Merchandising in Retail For this assignment I have been asked to describe how visual
merchandising is applied to the three selected retail outlets to an identified range of goods. Store
one Tesco Merchandising techniques In Tesco the merchandising techniques they use are: Senses.
A supermarket like Tesco would use this technique to try and bring more customers into the store
by using smell, sight, sound and taste. They would play music to try and attract people into the

This technique influences customers to buy the products as they are usually by the tills and are
sometimes on special offer. Sales and discounts: Tesco uses this technique because it will
influence more people buy the product as it is cheaper. This is very appealing for the customer
as it provides a quick route for those who are shopping for bargains. This also keeps the
customers looking at different parts of the store as this link leads to the display of many of their
products. Sales and discounts can encourage so called trial and repeat purchases. Retailers can
use special offers such as buy one get one offers. Coupons are another way to encourage
purchases by offering discounts on products. Free gifts with purchase also encourage customers
to purchase products and increase sales. Sales whether advertised in the store, online, in
newspapers or via some other medium will help get customers into the store. Retailers can place
sales signs in window displays as an incentive for customers to shop. Store two Volkswagen car

Observation Of Jupiter s Moons
Navigation has always played a key role in all aspects of human life. Although modern technology
has simplified travel and airplanes are used constantly, ships continue to be an important part of
trade and military systems today. This was especially the case around the seventeenth and
eighteenth centuries. Colonialism was built on navigationand whoever held the greatest naval power
could gain the greatest control. However, because of the difficulties that came from calculating
location while at sea, navigation became the greatest scientific challenge in the age of sailing. Being
able to pinpoint positions in the open sea was a necessity for nations at the time (and now) so that
military and commercial ships could be kept safe and on the right trajectory. Although latitude could
be measured successfully during the early eighteenth century, longitude still remained difficult to
measure. With wrecks continuing to occur, the British government, as well as other governments,
was desperate to find the solution to the longitude problem. The... Show more content on

One of these methods was suggested by the great mathematician and astronomer, Galileo Galilei.
The method stemmed from Galileo s discovery of the orbits of Jupiter s moons; he proposed that
the moons could be used as a way to track time. The problem with this method is that it required a
person on board to observe Jupiter s moons periodically, which was a difficult task due to the
constant movement that is experienced on board of a ship. Another method that was put forth was
one that relied on the position of the moon, similar to Galileo s method. Using this method,
observers on a ship would have to note the position of the moon relative to other objects in the sky.
Charting the moon s distance to other objects was not an easy task, making the method tedious and

I Am A Bachelor Of Science Psychology
I am a Bachelor of Science Psychology major at my university, and my love for behavioral
sciences is so impeccable that I am complex on deciding what area to choose for my future
career. I come from a family with members who suffer from either mental disorder, substance
abuse, or adolescence issues. So it makes my decision even more difficult, because I want to
help the world. However, I am leaning more towards a career in social work because the field is
so diverse. Social work allows you to interact with people of all cultures and hardships. Within this
field there are issues just like every other field in society, it has encouraging trends as well as
problematic trends. The encouraging trends of Psychologyin Social Work are in the schools for one
example. The children in our school system are sometimes troubled, and in the past the focus has
only been on academic struggles and peer pressure. Many adolescents turn to drugs and alcohol to
cope with abuse, bullying, and other mentally draining issues, and unfortunately, sometimes suicide.
Now, these days, the focus has expanded to the student s outside life. This means focusing on
poverty, violence, home life, environment, and cultural issues. I am a true believer in the molding
process begins at home. It is hard for a student to do their best if they are hurting emotionally and
mentally at home. With this amazing shift in focus we are not only helping to develop better
students, we may be saving lives along the way

An Article On Fair Trade Coffee Essay
This article contains information comprised from analyzing the research of fair trade coffee. This
including studying four main authors and two other articles for background information. The
articles examined the effects fair trade and organic coffee production methods effected local
farmers. The authors focused on meeting with the local farmers and the supervisors of
cooperatives. The areas that were studied consist of countries within Central America and Mexico.
The articles addressed some of the concerns the farmers had in fair tradeproduction methods vs.
conventional. The authors explain both the benefits and the drawbacks of fair trade certification.
In one of the articles the research of Krasnozhon, Simpson, and Block (2015) took on a different
approach; as their focus was not solely on coffeenor did they personally interview any farmers.
Instead their work reviewed some of the processes and regulations in free vs. fair trade. Ultimately,
the authors collectively emphasize the view of fair trade should not be as a function to repair all
the issues, but that it is more like the proper foundation to build on.
How Does Fair Trade Coffee Impact Local Farmers
Across the globe, we have become relatively dependent on coffee as a common beverage within our
society. It is what we drink everyday on our way to work and school. We gather with family and

  • 2. `` Moral Machines `` By Robert J. Sawyer And Gary Marcus Myths are a good representation of how technology works in a society. This is due to their valuable lessons which relate the impact of technological history on society over a period of time. Two authors by the names of Robert J. Sawyer and Gary Marcus elaborate the connection between science fiction and ethics to technology which compares to Prometheus s myth. Sawyer explains the relationship in her essay The Purpose of Science Fictionin which he justifies that sciencefiction can portray the outcomes of futuretechnology. Marcus justifies this connection in his essay Moral Machines when he describes how automated machinery should include ethical moralities in reference to how they are being used in real life scenarios. Sawyer and Marcus reveal the relationship of science fiction and ethics to technology which relates to the themes of Prometheus through science fiction and ethical motives. Prometheus was well known for giving the human race the gift of fire. He delivered fire to the world by stealing it from Zeus due to a conflict between the two. Prometheus was punished for his wrongdoing in which Zeus chained Prometheus to a boulder so an eagle would come to eat his liver every day. Prometheus s actions can represent a theme of progress in which he helps humans proceed around nature s boundaries. Humans encounter obstacles in their lives to achieve a better life and live comfortably, but the fire is the stepping stone to human success. Prometheus s gift to the world ... • 3. The Ratio Of A Hedge Funds We will extend our findings about undercapitalization in Table 4 based on our conclusions from Table 3. From Table 3, we know that there are 222 undercapitalized live hedge funds, and it consists only 8.1% of all the live funds. From this we can reach the conclusion that only a small fraction of live hedge funds are undercapitalized. Most of the live hedge funds (about 91.9%) can stay out of the risk of being undercapitalized. While the undercapitalized ratio for dead funds is 12.3%, so more dead funds are undercapitalized compared with the ratio of live funds. Since the ratio of undercapitalization plays an important role in determining the performance of a hedge fund, we will take a further look into the details of undercapitalization in Table 4. We list a number of variables that would usually have influence on the cap ratio. By comparing the different variable values under the category of adequately capitalized funds and under capitalized funds, we can determine the key elements that would usually influence the cap ratio of a hedge fund. Table 4 also illustrates the comparative characteristics between live and dead hedge funds. We can specify the characteristics in the following points. First, the mean of the net asset for the undercapitalized live funds is $88.4 million and the corresponding value for the capitalized funds is $206.1 million. The huge difference between these two values means a positive condition in the capital adequacy of the live funds. More live hedge ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay on Student Athletes Should Not Be Paid Student Athletes Should Not Be Paid In the world of college athletics there are endless topics discussed daily and most pertain to money. An issue that falls under this category includes the heated debate involving whether or not student athletes should receive money. Many people say student athletes should receive compensation according to their specific needs because they spend so much time earning their scholarship and have no time to work. On the other hand, the stronger argument is student athletes should not be able to acquire additional funds in order to help aid them through college. An athlete knows what he or she is involving themselves in before any money issue is even brought up. Signing a letter of intent shows that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Actions towards paying athletes are being taken and according to the TCU Daily Skiff, There s a legislation being passed around in the Big 12 states to provide athletes with an extra stipend in addition to their all expenses paid education. The idea is that these students are producing truckloads of revenue for the university and should see some of the fruits of their labor. (Jennings, par. 2) Because athletes aren t paid for producing such money, supporters feel some of the money made should go towards helping with extra expenses. An average student athlete has to pay for phone bills, transportation, entertainment, laundry, toiletries and other things. While the typical college student has the opportunity to work, athletes don t. Some students in college receive academic full ride scholarships, which are the same as athletic full rides, but they have time to earn extra money on the side. If these students are receiving a full ride scholarship and have the opportunity to work then an athlete should be paid a compensation for his or her efforts on the playing field. On the contrary, there is a reason the NCAA has not passed a law saying athletes should be paid and numerous reasons support this view. In fact according to NCAA rules, Section 2, Title V reads, It is a violation of the NCAA rules for athletes to accept money or gifts while intending to remain eligible. (Way, par. 16) There is a reason for this law and why it has not changed. Individuals ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. The Unfair Political System During The French Revolution Social reform during the French Revolution developed due to the unfair political system, brutality perpetrated by the first estate, and the living conditions the lower class lived through, nevertheless, the violence and genocide committed in order to create reform were immoral. Prior to the French Revolution, people of influence abused the political system in order to allow them to live in luxury. The government consisted of the first, second and third estate. The First Estate is composed of kings, queens, and other royalty personnel which is around one percent of the population. The Second Estate consists of nobles and clergy, which is equivalent to one percent of the population. Lastly, is the Third Estate which ranged anywhere from the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the time of the French revolution people of the first estate, second estate, and citizens who work for the said estates, were generally murdered violently either by mob attacks or the Guillotine. The citizens of the third estate essentially wanted revenge on these people. The guillotine originally was used by the first estate to punish the lower class, for example; if a citizen from the third estate did not pay their taxes or they somehow disrespected a leader of power they would be sent, as punishment, to the guillotine and be put to death. Ironically, throughout the duration of the French revolution, the citizens who were previously affected by this tyranny used the same tactics in order to create social reform. The citizens of the first estate would brutally force people of power to death or subdue them to violent torture. An example of this could be when a man named Flouon justly needed to be punished for crimes he had committed however the mob of citizens brutally murder him by hanging him on a lamppost and then putting his head [upon] a pike (II.22.223). In addition to this, another example of the violence and brutality committed in order to create social reform is The Storming of the Bastille. The Bastille was a prison in France, which essentially represented the authority of the upper estates, many low class citizens were imprisoned there for unjust reasons. the time of the French revolution came around the citizen liberating the prison not only freed prisoners, they killed many of the authority residing there unjustly and ... • 9. Influence of Baroque Music to Classical Music CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION Music of any period reflects, in its own way, some of the same influences, tendencies, and generative impulses that are found in the other arts of that time (Donna, 2005). Thus the word baroque, usually used despairingly by eighteenth century art critics to describe the art and architecture of the seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries, came to be applied also to the music of the seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries. After some years after the death of Johann Sebastian Bach, the ornate, formal and strict form of the High Baroque became old fashion and lost its favor. Music slowly began to change form the style and forms of the High Baroque to a simpler yet tuneful form around 1750. The period ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... New forms of polyphonic music were developing because baroque composers felt that the art of counterpoint was essential to their artistry. On the other hand, the homophonic method (a musical technique that displays a vast separation amongst the melody line and the accompaniment) was gaining acceptance and use quite rapidly (The Baroque Era). The homophonic musical style played a significant role in opera and solo vocal music because it focused the listener s concentration in the poetic melody of the singer. Most pieces in baroque music have the basso continuo which gave way to uniformity and unity. Basso continuo, or figured bass, is an accompaniment which consists of a bass part with numbers which specify the chords to be played above it. Musical works containing a continuo part helped to convey harmonic support of chords under the melodic line (The Baroque Era). Kamien (2008) states that basso continuo is usually played by at least two instruments: an organ or harpsichord and low melodic instrument like the cello or bassoon. Kamien (2008) also adds that the organist of harpsichordist plays the bass part with the left hand which is also played by the cellist or bassoonist. With the right hand, the keyboard player improvises chords or melodic line by following the numbers. Because the numbers only indicate a basic chord, the performer has a wide field of freedom. With continuity of rhythm and melody, baroque music also features continuity of dynamic level. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A laboratory experiment was conducted to fully study the impact of beauty premium , the positive association and relationship between attractiveness and wages, on economic success in the labor market. The experiment was conducted by Tatyana Deryugina, a professor of finance and her companions. Although illegal, labor market discrimination has occurred based on physical appearances and Tatyana wanted to test this notion. Deriving from this experiment, they were able to conclude that the beauty premium does indeed exist although only in certain circumstances. Only in tasks such as bargaining does beauty premium significantly show a positive correlation. In other tasks such as analysis or data entry, the notion of beauty premium does not exist. They state, we find that the beauty premium in bargaining completely vanishes in the second round of bidding when the task is repeated, which suggests that employers learn quickly that performance is uncorrelated with attractiveness (Deryugina 2015). The point is that physical beauty is what deceives the mind into thinking that the more attractive one is, the more competent they may be in performing and executing skills such as bargaining. ... While having protagonist confabs in Plato s and Xenophon s works, Socratestries to interrogate understanding of the further man on the aspect of morality. Socrates presented himself as a less knowledgeable person in the domain of moral issues to confuse the other person who boasts of being more knowledgeable on the same. Using this ironical approach known as the Socratic Irony , Socrates was able to illustrate inconsistency of the other person s views on morality. Although the early and middle works of Platoare considered as Socratic dialogue, understanding the composition and chronology of Plato s work is a bit complex since even the ancient sources do not present these works chronologically. Plato s work basically involved posing questions and answers as a way of stimulating critical thinking. Defender of a particular point of view would be questioned, and then one of the parties would contradict himself in order to confuse his counterpart and in doing so, the defender would be made weak. Socrates discourses revolved around traditions, justice, afterlife and education. • 18. The Importance Of Creon In Shakespeare By Sophocles ... In Antigone, it is generally believed that the gods possess limitless power and are able to control the fate of every mortal, no matter how powerful. However, there are also people who believe that they can change their fate, only if they have enough power. Creon, the most powerful mortal in the play, is one of those people. Due to the unmatched amount of power he has over Thebes, Creon feels he is able to challenge the gods and the fate given to him. After attempting to do so, he finds himself stuck with a tragic fate, resulting in the loss of everything dear to him, including his power. Sophoclesuses Creon as a way to show that everyone has a physical limit, but not a mental limit. When our thoughts and beliefs cause us to act beyond that physical limit, fate will always be there to provide the acceptable consequences. The play introduces Creon as a character whose power enables him to do as he pleases. After becoming the king of Thebes, he immediately recognizes his power. Shortly after being introduced into the play, Creon passes a proclamation stating, Never at my hand will the traitor be honored above the patriot. (Lines 232 233). Due to his personal beliefs towards the sons of Oedipus, Creon passes a law forbidding the burial of Polynices, the brother who fought against Thebes during war. In no attempt to object, the Leader responds saying, The power is yours, I suppose, to enforce it with the laws, both for the dead and all of us, the living. (Lines 238 240). ... Many of the poor students gravitate towards the liberal arts colleges while the privileged kids dream of medical or law schools and becoming future doctors and lawyers. She doesn t want to face what she really is. The worst horror for her in her mind is for anyone else to see her true self. The audience does see it almost right away, and they know from the first representation of DuBois that they are in for something else. Williams sets up DuBois scenes so the audience can quickly ascertain her true personality. The audience is, however, aware that baths and light bulbs have a meaning for Blanche apart from their functional existence (Corrigan 575). Mary Ann Corrigan writes that DuBois is far from perfect, and the audience can see just that in her drinking of alcohol and her slight comments towards her sister and brother in law (575). Yet, the whole time she is hiding behind her mask, she tells everyone she only has a drink once in a while, and she needs her baths to relax. The audience cannot mistake that Dubois does know who she really is, and what her situation holds for her. For this reason, she chooses to hide behind her mask of a southern belle, with her old dresses, rituals, and paper shaded light bulbs (Vogel 505). • 32. The Possible Links Between Cellphone Uses and Tumors 1.How do cellphones work? These work by the signals which are transmitted to and can be received from the base station (usually located close by) through RF wave. RF wave is a type of electromagnetic wave with a frequency range of 300GHZ widely used in radio communication and in applications such as heating. RF waves along with FM waves, microwaves, visible light and heat come under non ionizing radiation. RF does not cause cancer. These waves are different from radiations i.e. x rays, gamma rays and UV rays. These radiations can destroy the chemical bonds that make up DNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid). At higher levels the RF waves can raise the temperature of the body. But the RF waves emitted by the cell phones are generally of lower energy level and hence it does not affect body temperature. 2.How are people exposed to RF waves? RF waves require more energy for long distance transmission. The energy at the transmitting antenna in cellphone will greater than the energy received by the receiving antenna of the cellphone (loss of energy during long distance transmission). When a customer communicates using cellphone which is in contact with their ear (either left or right) the maximum energy at the transmitting antenna of the cellphone during communication will be directly absorbed by that ear. The ear that is closest to the phone will absorb more energy that the ear that farther away. It also depends on factors such as: 1.Amount of time the cellphone is being used ... However, The Red Badge of Courage is a little different, with more struggle and conflict. Henry is a young soldier, who flees the battlefield. Over time he is able to learn what war really is and become a good soldier. The articles that are being looked at include; Critical Evaluation from enotes , Crane s Realistic Treatment of War in The Red Badge of Courageby Sheri Helens, and The 100 best novels: No 30 The Red Badge of Courage by Stephen Crane (1895). These essays along with the book prove that the story is not the typical war novel. The Red Badge of Courage is the story of how a young and scared soldier becomes a great soldier... This essay flat out says the theme, The Red Badge of Courage is not a conventional historical novel (The 100 best novels). This article wants the reader to know this point is true. A typical novel wouldn t have the main character running away from the enemy, however, this is exactly what Henry did, he, too, threw his gun down and fled. There was no shame in his face. He ran like a rabbit (42). As soon as one man started to run away, Henry was right behind him, running even faster. That s not what a war hero is supposed to do! He should be fighting the battle, not running away from it. Again an essay states that Henry is not confident in war, when fighting breaks out around him, Fleming s courage deserts him (The 100 best novels). A classic war character has courage and valor even when in the face of the enemy but Henry has neither. When the battle starts Henry loses his hope, the noises of the battle were like stones; he believed himself liable to be crushed (43). Once more Henry is not a great soldier, although he does become one. Henry eventually becomes a good soldier but he is not a natural like most conventional war stories. • 34. Lord s Resistance Army Essay The Lord s Resistance Army is one of the longest running and most violent armed groups in Africa. The US State Department reports that it has been active since 1986, it was formed in northern Uganda to fight Uganda s government. It has a sordid and violent history including the forcible recruitment of over 66,000 children for both sex slaves and child soldiers. The longevity and continued activity of the Lord s Resistance Army can be attributed to its leader, Joseph Kony. The Lord s Resistance Army was created due in part to the Holy Spirit Movement which was founded in the 1980 s to represent the Acholi people of northern Uganda. Kony founded the L.R.A in order to combat Uganda s government headed by President Yoweri Museveni. The Lord s Resistance Army has never been a popular movement, it has never had the support of the citizenry in the countries in which it operates. Although it was created in Uganda, it has operated in the Central African Republic, Southern Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The supposed mandate of the L.R.A when it was conceived was to create a theocratic style state in Uganda based on the 10 commandments of the Bible. Most high schools at least offer Spanish and French, which makes sense since the US bordering countries are Spanish speaking Mexico and French speaking Canada (at least partially). One reason to add Latin to the current language options is because it continues to influence living languages even though it is considered a dead language. Visual Merchandising in Retail Visual Merchandising in Retail For this assignment I have been asked to describe how visual merchandising is applied to the three selected retail outlets to an identified range of goods. Store one Tesco Merchandising techniques In Tesco the merchandising techniques they use are: Senses. A supermarket like Tesco would use this technique to try and bring more customers into the store by using smell, sight, sound and taste. They would play music to try and attract people into the store, and they would also have staff at the front of the store offering free samples to customers to try to try and persuade them to buy the product. They would use lighting for an example for sight as it would draw customers to come into the store to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This technique influences customers to buy the products as they are usually by the tills and are sometimes on special offer. Sales and discounts: Tesco uses this technique because it will influence more people buy the product as it is cheaper. This is very appealing for the customer as it provides a quick route for those who are shopping for bargains. This also keeps the customers looking at different parts of the store as this link leads to the display of many of their products. Sales and discounts can encourage so called trial and repeat purchases. Retailers can use special offers such as buy one get one offers. Coupons are another way to encourage purchases by offering discounts on products. Free gifts with purchase also encourage customers to purchase products and increase sales. Sales whether advertised in the store, online, in newspapers or via some other medium will help get customers into the store. Retailers can place sales signs in window displays as an incentive for customers to shop. Store two Volkswagen car dealer One of the merchandising techniques Volkswagen use is lighting, they use this as one of their techniques to make certain cars look more appealing to the customers, and to also make the car look of a higher quality. • 52. Observation Of Jupiter s Moons Navigation has always played a key role in all aspects of human life. Although modern technology has simplified travel and airplanes are used constantly, ships continue to be an important part of trade and military systems today. This was especially the case around the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Colonialism was built on navigationand whoever held the greatest naval power could gain the greatest control. However, because of the difficulties that came from calculating location while at sea, navigation became the greatest scientific challenge in the age of sailing. Being able to pinpoint positions in the open sea was a necessity for nations at the time (and now) so that military and commercial ships could be kept safe and on the right trajectory. Although latitude could be measured successfully during the early eighteenth century, longitude still remained difficult to measure. With wrecks continuing to occur, the British government, as well as other governments, was desperate to find the solution to the longitude problem. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of these methods was suggested by the great mathematician and astronomer, Galileo Galilei. The method stemmed from Galileo s discovery of the orbits of Jupiter s moons; he proposed that the moons could be used as a way to track time. The problem with this method is that it required a person on board to observe Jupiter s moons periodically, which was a difficult task due to the constant movement that is experienced on board of a ship. Another method that was put forth was one that relied on the position of the moon, similar to Galileo s method. Using this method, observers on a ship would have to note the position of the moon relative to other objects in the sky. Charting the moon s distance to other objects was not an easy task, making the method tedious and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. I Am A Bachelor Of Science Psychology I am a Bachelor of Science Psychology major at my university, and my love for behavioral sciences is so impeccable that I am complex on deciding what area to choose for my future career. I come from a family with members who suffer from either mental disorder, substance abuse, or adolescence issues. So it makes my decision even more difficult, because I want to help the world. However, I am leaning more towards a career in social work because the field is so diverse. Social work allows you to interact with people of all cultures and hardships. Within this field there are issues just like every other field in society, it has encouraging trends as well as problematic trends. The encouraging trends of Psychologyin Social Work are in the schools for one example. The children in our school system are sometimes troubled, and in the past the focus has only been on academic struggles and peer pressure. Many adolescents turn to drugs and alcohol to cope with abuse, bullying, and other mentally draining issues, and unfortunately, sometimes suicide. Now, these days, the focus has expanded to the student s outside life. This means focusing on poverty, violence, home life, environment, and cultural issues. I am a true believer in the molding process begins at home. It is hard for a student to do their best if they are hurting emotionally and mentally at home. With this amazing shift in focus we are not only helping to develop better students, we may be saving lives along the way ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This including studying four main authors and two other articles for background information. The articles examined the effects fair trade and organic coffee production methods effected local farmers. The authors focused on meeting with the local farmers and the supervisors of cooperatives. The areas that were studied consist of countries within Central America and Mexico. The articles addressed some of the concerns the farmers had in fair tradeproduction methods vs. conventional. The authors explain both the benefits and the drawbacks of fair trade certification. In one of the articles the research of Krasnozhon, Simpson, and Block (2015) took on a different approach; as their focus was not solely on coffeenor did they personally interview any farmers. Instead their work reviewed some of the processes and regulations in free vs. fair trade. Ultimately, the authors collectively emphasize the view of fair trade should not be as a function to repair all the issues, but that it is more like the proper foundation to build on. How Does Fair Trade Coffee Impact Local Farmers Across the globe, we have become relatively dependent on coffee as a common beverage within our society. It is what we drink everyday on our way to work and school. We gather with family and friends in cafes to interact while we sip our favorite cup of coffee.
