Abstract
This study compared stance marker (affect and quantifiers) frequencies and their
part of speech frequencies in males and females political jokes. 40 political jokes
were selected via social networks instant messages from native English speakers.
20 jokes were presented by females and 20 by males. The jokes comprised of 1000
words. Stance marker frequencies were assessed manually. Two categories of stance
markers were examined: affect and quantifiers. Results of the study show that
frequencies of quantifiers and affect were higher in the political jokes presented by
females than males. The data showed that most commonly, affect was expressed in
adjectives and verbs but quantifiers were adjectival and adverbial.

Social policies have impacted my life before I was even aware of the term social
policy. Today, social policy impacts my personal life and my professional life daily.
I am impacted personally by many social policies that pertain particularly to higher
education and women s rights. Social policies that increase assess for adult learners
and reduce financial barriers for higher educationhas allowed me to return to higher
education. I am an adult student who has children and works full time so attending
classes in a traditional setting is not an option for me. With higher education being
more accessible and offered on line I am able to attend higher education working
towards a degree. Financial policies regarding higher education have provided...
I work with families that are involved in child protective services and I am always
amazed at the lack of social policies that are in place to assist these families. These
families often times are faced with poverty, addiction, and homelessness. Although
there are many social policies that improve the quality of life for individuals that live
in poverty there continues to be needs that go unmet for families living in poverty.
There are several treatment facilities that treat addiction, but many of the clients that I
work with do not have insurance that the treatment facilities accept. A typical client
that suffers from addiction does not have the financial ability to pay cash for
treatment. I recently inquired about the cost of treatment for a client without
insurance and was informed that the cost of inpatient care was approximately
$1,000 a day. There is no client on my caseload that can afford to pay the cost of
inpatient treatment. The lack of affordable housing for families living in poverty is
another very frustrating social policy. One town that I work in has one low income
housing complex that has a current waiting list of three years. The waiting list for
housing assistance in this particular community is currently closed and will not
accept applications at this time. The closets homeless shelter is forty nine miles
away from the town. I currently have five clients on my caseload in this area that are

they might have gained legal equality, the goal of African Americans being viewed
as equal whites was not obtained. The Jim Crow Laws have been active and utilized
since the end of reconstruction (Andrews). The reconstruction era followed the Civil
War, and worked on resolving / compromising African Americandiscrimination in the
south. The Civil War had started in the April of 1861, and officially ended when
General Robert E. Lee surrendered to the army of Northern Virginia at the
Appomattox Court House ( Civil War...). The war resulted in the freedom of all
African Americans. The racial inequality barrier started to break but slowly began to
emerge in the 1900s, as the Jim Crow Laws were created. In addition to this,
throughout the years 1954 1964, the civil rights movement occurred, and fought

segregated bathrooms, busses, restaurants, and many other commonly used

In my senior project, Laura Koller s wedding meant so much for me to be able to
be a part of putting my creativity into her wedding. I want Laura to have the best
wedding with the most amazing flowers she choose and to not worry about having
the flowers not being the way she wants them to be. When Laura s wedding caught
my attention, I felt honor to be able to be part in the next step in someone s lifetime.
In this project, I ll talk about the history of weddings, the flowers that were used, the
creation and the packing up.
The flowers or herbs were used in historical weddings since the beginning of time
to show a way of love and well wishes to everyone. The first use of wedding flowers
were the ancient Greeks. The flowers or plants were used to make a crown for the
bride to wear and was a gift of nature. The bridesmaids would have floral
decorations which were garlands, bridal bouquets and boutonnieres. Mostly the
bridesmaids were to make a poesies, to make, for each guest to wear as a symbol of
saying thanks. Over time, the flowers and their meanings stayed the same but the
herbs lost their place in modern North American weddings. Some of the cultures and
religions have intertwine herbs with flowers to celebrate the marriage with a gift of
nature. Leading up to and during the Middle Ages, weddings were considered as a
family and community affairs. The only main thing about a wedding was for both

Although not seen by all as the main character, Casilda is the strongest and most
evolutionary personality of the short story. The Judge s Wife is an exceptional tale
that follows the progression of characters as they fight against their predetermined
