The Pearl By John Steinbeck Essay
Writing an essay on "The Pearl" by John Steinbeck can be both challenging and rewarding. On
one hand, the novel provides rich material for analysis, exploring themes such as greed, the
corrupting influence of wealth, and the consequences of societal expectations. On the other
hand, the depth and complexity of the narrative require careful attention to detail and a nuanced
understanding of the characters and their motivations.
One difficulty lies in deciphering the layers of symbolism embedded in Steinbeck's prose. The
pearl itself, a seemingly simple object, represents various facets of human nature, economic
disparity, and the elusive nature of happiness. Unraveling these symbolic threads and weaving
them into a coherent argument can be a daunting task.
Additionally, addressing the cultural and historical context in which the novel is set adds another
layer of complexity. Steinbeck's portrayal of a Mexican indigenous community and their
struggles introduces an intricate socio-political backdrop that requires thorough research and
understanding to present a well-informed analysis.
Crafting a thesis statement that captures the essence of the essay and guides the reader through
the analysis poses another challenge. The essay must go beyond summarizing the plot and delve
into the deeper meanings and implications of the events and characters.
Moreover, maintaining a balance between personal interpretation and scholarly analysis is crucial.
It's easy to fall into the trap of subjective opinions without grounding them in the text, or
conversely, to become so focused on academic analysis that the essay loses its voice and
engagement.
In conclusion, writing an essay on "The Pearl" by John Steinbeck demands a blend of literary
analysis, cultural awareness, and critical thinking. It is a task that requires careful navigation
through the layers of the narrative, attention to detail, and a thoughtful exploration of the novel's
themes and characters. However, overcoming these challenges can lead to a profound
understanding of the text and a rewarding essay that contributes to the ongoing discourse
surrounding this literary classic.

Vitamin C helps to produce collagen. It is also vital in the production of dopamine
and adrenaline, and necessary to the function of almost all major organs. Low levels
of ascorbic acid can result in loose teeth, anemia, inability to heal quickly, and easier
bruising. In general, though, people with fairly healthy diets get enough of this

substance without supplementation. When a person s diet is low in vitamin C,
supplementation should be considered to promote overall health.
Since most cooking methods deplete the content of vitamin C, one of the best
methods for adding it to one s diet is to eat citrus fruits raw, or to very lightly cook
green vegetables like broccoli. Spinach salad is a tasty way to add more vitamin C
to your diet. Vitamin C has recently been added not just to many foods, but also to
many cosmetic products, particularly skin creams marketed as anti aging. It is too
early to tell if these products are effective, though some users feel they are quite
Baseball Of The Baseball Rule
INTRODUCTION
Baseball ballpark owners owe a duty of care to spectators who attend games their
stadiums. Historically, there has been a devotion to the baseball rule , which is
essentially a tool of public policy used to protect stadium owners. However, there is
very little consensus on what exactly the rule entails and how it is applied across all
jurisdictions. While this rule is justified based on a limited amount of data, Gallatin
legislature should either reshape it to better reflect modern tort doctrine or continue
operating on a case by case basis, taking all facts and situation based evidence into
account.
BASEBALL RULE
The Baseball Rule has been widely adopted by courts in jurisdiction considering
the legal duty of landowners owed to spectators at baseball games. The Baseball
Rule has two main components: the owner must screen the most dangerous section
of the field (typically the area behind the Homeplate) and the screening provided
must be adequate to provide covering for as many spectators who desire protected
seats. Spectators that willingly choose to watch the game in unscreened areas
assume the open and obvious risk of being struck by a ball. With the Baseball Rule
clearly limiting the landowner s legal duty, ballpark owners avoid potential lawsuits
for every ball that strikes a spectator.
Without the Baseball Rule, under general principles of landowner liability for
negligence, spectator injuries are considered on a case by case basis upon criteria
Why Men Are More Talented At Design Than Women
There is no way to accurately measure the success rate of designers based on sex or
sexual orientation, or, somewhat speciously, to examine if men are more talented at
design than women. As Valerie Steele, the chief curator of the Museum of the
Fashion Institute of Technology, said: There is no gay gene for creativity.
But circumstantial evidence is making some designers wonder about the
disparities. Of the young American designers most embraced by retailers and
celebrated in the fashion press in recent years, the roll call is almost exclusively
male: Zac Posen, Marc Jacobs, Narciso Rodriguez and Mr. Som as well as Jack
McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler. Their female
contemporaries have had a harder time breaking through, among them Behnaz
Sarafpour, Alice Roi and Ms. Subkoff.
Gay men stick together like a band of brothers, Ms. Subkoff said in an interview. It
s more common for a man to bring up a younger assistant who is male and be proud
of that, she added, whereas a woman would be threatened to promote another woman.
The Council of Fashion Designers of America, a trade group that vets those who
apply for membership, is made up of 121 women and 156 men. Since 1986 its annual
Perry Ellis awards for young talent have been given to 8 women and 29 men (20 of
them openly gay).

Context Of Silkwood V. Kerr Mcgee Nuclear Corp
Introduction
The 1983 film Silkwood, was inspired by Karen Silkwood of the monumental
Silkwood v. Kerr McGee Nuclear Corp. (81 2159) whistleblowing case. Silkwood, a
union activist and whistleblower who worked at the Cimarron, Oklahoma Kerr
McGee Nuclear Fuel Processing facility from August, 1972 through November 1974.
While the activist was investigating alleged wrongdoing, specifically plutonium
contaminations on her body and throughout her house, she was killed in a suspicious
auto accident. The case portrayed in film shows implications for modern
whistleblowers, set a precedent and was essential in creating proper protections for
whistleblowers. This paper will analyze the context of Silkwood v. Kerr McGee
Nuclear Corp. in modern day whistleblowing.
Silkwood v. Kerr McGee (1979)
After the discovery of plutonium contamination on Karen Silkwood s body and in the
house she shared with co workers, Silkwood died in a mysterious auto accident. Her
father, who was her estate administrator, then filed suit against Kerr McGee Nuclear
Corporation for personal injury, mental distress, and property damage.
The Silkwood v. Kerr McGee case raised new questions about safety of workers in
the nuclear industry. At the plant where Silkwood worked, employees worked with
plutonium, which presents a high risk of serious health complications on the internal
organs, tissues, and bone, especially if the element is inhaled or has any sort of
internal contact. Silkwood was a laboratory analyst
The Cathedral Of Notre Dame
The Cathedral of Notre Dame in Reims, northeast of Paris near Champagne was the
coronation church of the kings of France and was an educational and cultural
center. Also built of limestone, the architecture of the Reims Cathedral features
Gothic style. It symbolizes an Early Gothic, Radiant Gothic and Flamboyant
Gothic. The Reims Cathedral depicts a classic harmonic facade containing four
levels. Its interior is defined by its towering heights and narrow proportions, and
elaborate sculptural works. Because of the high quality of workmanship and
materials used, Reims Cathedral features some of the most beautiful gothic art in
existence. Five different cathedrals have been on the site on which Reims cathedral
now sits since 401 CE. The current cathedral was built in 1211, after the previous
cathedral had burned down. The new building was almost entirely finished by the
end of the thirteenth century. 88 gargoyles were counted on the Reims Cathedral
and are mainly used to drain off rainwater and are exceptional pieces of work, but do
show the slight difference between Gothic and Romanesque styles. The stained glass
windows are a beautiful part of Reims despite being damaged or ruined several times
in the 18th century; the cathedral still has many 13th century stained glass windows,
in the upper parts of the nave, choir and transept. On the opposite side of the great
western portal, the Great Rose Window, dating from the end of the 13th century,
represents the Crowning

The Committee By Sonallah Ibrahim
A novel The Committee by Sonallah Ibrahim tells a story of an Egyptian man that is
sent to be questioned by the mysterious Committee. A couple months after being
question by the Committee, the main character is then sent on a task to find an
individual that aluminates. The protagonist decides to research about The Doctor, a
prominent Arab figure, but the Committee comes to his house to notify him that he
needs to change his topic. The main character s decision not to change his topic
makes him go through quite outlandish situations until he finally consumes himself.
Ibrahim s goal in writing The Committee was to take a critical look about the world
around him, which consisted of money continuously going to the rich, Western
countries or Egyptian elites, and never the hard working Egyptian. Ibrahim forces the
main character to go through outrageous situations, which requires him to meet
eclectic character, all to illustrate the authors point of the negativity of globalization
and that Western society is pushing Egyptto extremes.
Ibrahim makes a point in writing about the power and influence the brand Coca Cola
has to the international market, which loosely symbolizes globalization and the gap
occurring between the first world and third world. The first questioned posed by the
Committee to the protagonist is, what symbolizes the twentieth century? The main
character then responds with the answer, Coca Cola because it was one of the first
products to be internationally known

The read/write learner is advised to: develop lists, make outlines, obtain study guides,
take notes, and write words to the notes several times. It is also recommended to read
notes silently, rewrite and paraphrase ideas into other words. Converting graphs,
charts, and diagrams into worded statements help the student with a strong read/write
preference to understand the meanings contained in the visual material. Meaning is
found in words; therefore the student with a read/write learning preference should
search for words that describe the meaning of a concept by breaking the concept into
textual points. (Fleming, n.d.). The previously mentioned recommended learning
strategies for the very strong read/write learning preference of this student compare
near perfectly with the strategies currently in use. This student however, frequently

Critic Tillyard consents to this impression, although he fails to acknowledge the
connection between this manipulation of ironic distance and the novel s capitalist
commentary; which remains influential over the Assistant Commissioner.
Nevertheless, Tillyard recognizes the Assistant Commissioner s deceptive nature:
Here we might easily think of the Commissioner as an unconscious LaocoЕ‘n
caught in the coils of officialdom. But very soon we learn that he is as well aware
of the coils as we are and as averse to them as Conrad would like his readers to be...
. (The Secret Agent Reconsidered. P.107). Despite conquering ironic distance and
revealing his awareness, the Assistant Commissioner remains submissive to the
protocols of his job. This conveys the scale of oppressive power that Conrad places
on capitalist society in his fiction, which manifests as a transcending of the narrative.
The circumstances support the thesis that Conrad sees attempts of social change as

ECONOMIC ENVIRONMENT
Panama uses US dollar as currency since 1904 so that dollarization results in low
inflation and interest rates. That s why Panama is the most stable country among
Latin America because Panama has kapt its annual inflation rate under two percent
for almost 40 years. Further, dollarization eliminates any currency exange risks to
foreign companies.
Tourism is the fastest growing industry in Panama, according to statistics provided
by the Panama Tourism Bureau, IPAT (STATISTICS REPORT 1997 2006), in 2007
the tourism industry contributed $1.45 billion dollars to the nation s economy. This
amount represents 9.5 percent of Panama s total Gross Domestic Product, making it
the largest single industry in the country (Panama Canal Cruise). By comparison, in
2006 the Panama Canal generated $1.08 billion dollars in income while the total
economic impact of the Colon Free Zone was a paltry $696.2 million dollars.
Labor force in Panama is 1.362 million that the number of unskilled labor are more

America about 1800, nearly 200 years after the first English settlements in the New
World. (Humble 1). The New World was very diverse religiously compared to Europe
where Catholicism was prominent. The author goes on to list several of the main
religious groups that colonized the New World. Anglicanism became the state church
in Virginia, and Maryland was mostly Catholic. In Massachusetts, Connecticut and

He notes: The decade following the Civil War saw a division in the Church in the
North. One point of contention was missionary societies between Isaac Errett and
Benjamin Franklin. The Louisville Plan restructured the Society with the aim of
maintaing peace in the brotherhood (Humble 57). The restructuring however
ultimately failed for lack of funds. The question of instrumental music was asked in
1851, and the discussion broadened between 1864 1865 when W. K. Pendleton saw
instruments as mere expediency. Some, such as McGarvey and Moses E. Lard, stood
fast in opposing the use of instruments. Another conservative, Benjamin Franklin,
said: Better is poor singing where love is, than the grandest tones of the organ and
hatred therewith. (Humble 60). In 1906 the Churches of Christ and the Christian
Church were officially listed separately in the United States Census. This was mostly
based on the use of instruments or not. Humble notes: In 1896 J.D. Tant estimated
that more than a hundred Texas congregations had divided over the use of
instrumental music. (Humble 65). Nevertheless, in 1916, Churches of Christ in Texas
were more numerous than Christian Churches (Humble 66). Division seemed to be
spotlighted in progressives and conservatives, but division abounded in each group as
well. For example, many conservatives agreed against societies and instruments, but
Balanced Equation Lab Report
First we have to find the Balanced Equation: Fe2O3 + 3CO yields 2Fe + 3CO2
Then you would need to find your number of moles for Fe, which is 0.07890
Then you would need to find your number of moles for CO, which is 0.34451
So that also helps us because it tells us that 1 singluar mole Fe behaves with 3 mole
CO.
0.07890^3 mole of Fe which gives us a total of 0.2367 mole
1 singular mole of Fe behaves with 2 mole of Iron, you would then do 0.07890^2 to
get: 0.1578 mol of Iron.
Then you would take 55.845 (iron s singular mole) and multiply it by the 0.1578 and
that would be the theoretical yield which is 8.812341
Your percent yield would be: 0.82044415
The balanced equation I came up with is 3CaCO3 + 2Li3N yields 3Li2CO3 +
Ca3N2 as my answer. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First you want to balance the equation to: PCI5 + 4H2O yields H3PO4 + 5HCI
Then you would take 208 g of PCI5 which give you 5 mole of HCI and 75.5 g of
PCI5 give you 5 times 75.5 divided by 208, which gives you a final answer of: 1.8149
First you want to find your balanced equation, which is going to be: 2C6H6 + 15O2
yields 12CO2 + 6H2O.
Then you find the mole of C6H6 which is going to be 78.1.
Then you find the mole of Carbon from one singular C6H6, which is going to be
Olaudah Equiano Analysis
In the Bible, the book of Hebrews states, Now faith is the substance of things hoped

Equiano autobiography, The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah EquianoOR,
Gustavus Vassa, The African . Originally published in 1789, Equiano s narrative went
through a series of revisions throughout his lifetime, finally becoming a bestseller.
Equiano s treasured writing depicts his personal accounts from childhood, holding the
status of an African aristocrat in Benin, West Africa, to being kidnapped and forced
into slaveryin the infamous Middle Passage slave trade. While slavery, attempts to
divest Equiano of his hope for freedom, his narrative asserts that spirituality and
literary works produce its own liberty and identity in the world. From the inception
of this narrative, the reader learns quickly how Equiano plans to escape the bondage
of slavery. Part of the dehumanizing nature of slavery is to strip the slaves of their
natural identity and substitute it with a falsehood that can be controlled and render
them powerless. His autobiography shows us a slave who discovers how to obtain his
freedom through his own spiritual empowerment. In Equiano s introductory quote,
his engagement with the reader expresses his profound confidence in God. He attests
to his faith with Bibleverses from the book of Isaiah. One reads

Collectors are missing many collection opportunities because do not have an
understanding of the intelligence gaps. The opportunity to collect on a non
interference basis with the commander s collection priorities is an opportunity.
However, some collection managers would not agree with that process. As well, the
NIC NIA Information Sheet is an excellent example of the level of detail required
for a proper collection request a threshold often missed. The longest paragraph on
most collection requests is the justification for the collection, which has no effect on
the collection and is of no interest to the collector. Collection and collection
management are broken, but that is an issue beyond the role of the intelligence
community. Collection is a command issue because it involves many military assets.
It is a matter that involves a lot of money and resources and has significant political

Teaching Strategies For Student Involvement Essay
The students in this class are fifteen to seventeen year olds with one eighteen year
old. I applied my Content and Pedagogy PGE to this lesson using teaching strategies
I acquired at the Argument Writing Workshop. For example, I began with an
icebreaker called This or That, reading aloud a series of controversial statements.
Students who agreed with a statement moved to one side of the room; those who
disagreed moved to the other side. Then students took turns explaining their choices. I
also incorporated close reading strategies covered at the workshop. I applied my
Assessment PGE, using Lexile scores to select texts and initially group students. One
goal for the featured lesson was for students to learn the language of argument writing
(claim, counterclaim, ethos, logos, pathos, etc.). I also wanted students to deduce an
author s position in a text, cite supporting evidence, and analyze text to identify
rhetorical devices. I assessed the featured lesson by observing student involvement in
the discussions and reading the notes students took over the course of the unit. The
final assessment was for each student to write an argument essay on illegal

to consider real world problems and gain respect for differing viewpoints often based
on cultural background and experience. Argument writing is the most used
Avian Plague Thesis
Tom Gordon, Connor Kirschbaum Thesis: Throughout history humans have dealt
with many diseases and plagues, some of these were the Bubonic Plague (the
Black Death) in mid 1300 s, the Avian Flu which started in 1878 and the Swine Flu
which started in the 1918. People have been discovering the causes for these
plagues and diseases. They found out that animals such as Rodents for the Bubonic
Plague, birds for the Avian Flu and pigs for Swine flu were vectors for diseases.
The Bubonic Plague was a epidemic in the mid 1300s and killed the vast majority of
the population in Europe. The Bubonic Plague killed an estimated 25 million people
during the epidemic. The Bubonic Plague is estimated to kill 30 50 percent of the
total population in Europe (DeWhite,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

these animals were considered vectors of diseases by the diseases from Swine Flu,
Avian Flu and the Bubonic Plague all started with infected bacterium that went into
a host body which spread to humans. In avian flu it was birds, in swine flu it was
pigs and bubonic plague it was rodents. After humans realizing the diseases, they
quickly adapted and fought off these diseases by using many different methods such
as antivirals, medicines, rest and eradicating the cause of the disease (birds for avian

Saratoga Hostel v. Avila (2009)
In 1999, Maria Avila was hired as a housekeeper by Saratoga Hostel; she was 42
years old. Her duties included: cleaning twelve rooms a day, doing some laundry,
and cleaning the hallways as well. Due to the economic crisis of 2009, Saratoga
Hostel hired a new business consultant to find ways to reduce costs and personnel.
The housekeeping department let go 3 of their 10 employees. The manager then
decided to train all employees to clean 14 rooms per day instead of 12. When the
training was over, 3 employees could not handle the pressure of the new routine,
Avila was of them. These three employees were given another week of training. After

under the new business plan, the company was forced to change their performance
standard in order to stay in business.

The, Bernardino Of Siena, And Martin Le Franc
Voices of men have traditionally been the loudest, and therefore most important in
history, especially in Medieval Europe where male academics and preachers had the
most influence on the lower classes and upper classes. Those accused of witchcraft
were disproportionately female, and the writing and sermons from this era clearly set
the groundwork for misogynistic witch hunts which are to come in the Early Modern
period. The works of Burchard of Worms, William of Malmesbury, Jacobus de
Voragine, Bernardino of Siena, and Martin Le Franc each perpetuate different
stereotypes of magic which all address the idea of genderin sorcery. While not all of
these texts take explicitly misogynistic or misandristic positions, they give insight
into whether or not gender was a main issue in determining who was or wasn t a
witch. However, it s important to keep in mind whose voice is being heard in these
texts: often well respected, upper class, or clerical men. As a result of these authors
positions, they have influence far beyond their parishes and countries and, therefore,
can define, both explicitly and implicitly, what ideas are correct about the behavior of
women, specifically regarding witchcraft. Because these texts were written by men,
there is a clear and distinct bias about women s behavior and their possible
involvement in the magical arts, however there are some notable variations that still
establish harmfully unattainable ideal.

A Short Note On The Air Corporation s Essay
aled Air Corporation s From:Russel Jay Eserjose Re: Leveraged Recapitalization
Date:10/29/16 1. a. Sealed Air is a company that manufactures and distributes a
variety of protective packaging materials and systems. It was founded in 1960 and
has grown rapidly throughout its first 25 years of business. During 1987 and
1988, it became apparent from a performance side that management needed to
focus on the manufacturing component, which historically was neglected in favor
of marketing and sales. Although their revolutionary and significant products have
gotten them to where they are, the company was reliant on their old ways causing
a causing efficiency and external problems. When inspecting the efficiency ratios
of Sealed Air from 1987 to 1988, the collection period increased from 58.24 days to
61.36 days interpreting that it is taking longer to collect credit sales from their
distributers. This expresses a negative sign from business partners. Sealed Air s
inventory turnover ratio went from 6.37 to 6.36 showing no dramatic change, but
shows that the company sold more goods than held inventory due to the fact a
customer will pay for it. Lastly, their payable day s ratio went from 39.56 to 38.69.
Again, not a significant change, but shows that Sealed Air s distributors aren t
waiting to receive payments. Their profit margin from 1987 to 1988 decreased about
1%, but in 1989, increased about 1.5%. Sealed Air s operating performance has
remained stable from the periods
Dry Filters During WWII
During the Second World War a multitude of dry filters containing wood wool, sisal
fibre, glass wool, wood chips soaked in oil, and other types of fibrous or granular
material were used for removal of the fine dust (average particle size below 60
micron), but success was very limited.
Wet purifiers such as water and oil scrubbers and bubblers are also effective but only
within certain limits.
The best cleaning effect is obtained by employing cloth filters. However, normal cloth
filters are very sensitive to the gas temperature. In the case of wood or agricultural
waste gasification, the dew point of the gas will be around 70 C. Below this
temperature water will condense in the filters, causing obstruction of the gas flow and

Background: One of the biggest challenges that faces the older adult population
currently is the increased incidence of falls and postural instability.1 2 Several
randomized controlled trials have been conducted to investigate the effectiveness
of Tai Chi for Fall Prevention for older adults using a twice a week program model.
3The purpose of this report is to identify if a once a week Tai Chi program makes a
significant difference in improving the balance of a 78 year old community dwelling
elderly.
Case Description: The subject of this study is a 78 year old female with post open
reduction internal fixation on right hip in June 2014. She typifies an excellent
candidate for this study because of a previous right hip fracture due to fall, multiple
joint pains due to the diagnosis of osteoarthritis, thoracolumbar dextro scoliosis,
lumbar spinal stenosis, has sleep apnea, hearing and vision deficits. Since May 2016,
patient regularly participated in a once a week 45 minute Tai Chi program offered at
the local YMCA.
Outcomes: Despite the short period of an investigation conducted by this study,
improved scores on the balance test and measures (TUG, Tinetti, FFR, 6 minute
walk test) indicated that the patient s risk for falls is reduced. She demonstrates
good balance, good overall strength and flexibility enabling her to perform all
activities of daily living (ADL) and intermediate ADL with minimal effort and
decreased her fear of falling.

The Success Of The American Government Essay
The American government is known to promote democratic values throughout the
world. Though the ideals America was fighting for during the Cold War, the
government still managed to participate in the overthrow of democratically elected
Prime Minister, Mohammed Mossadegh. Mossadegh threatened to nationalize Irans
oil in 1951 and later gained the support of the Iranian government. The British
companies had many investments in Iranian oil. It is with the approval of
nationalization that the economies of both British and Iran were ultimately
harmed. The British government requested the help of the US so that they could
perform a coup to overthrow Mossadegh. With suspicions of Mossadegh supporting
communism, and being supported by the Tudeh Party, the United States
government was willing to sacrifice their democratic ideologies and credibility in
the region for the insurance of an anti communist leader. This would prove to
cause problems that still resonate in today s political and military negotiations in
this region. The people of Iran were for the support of anything except for a
monarch under the rule of the Shah. This was very clear as he had fallen out of
favor during his rule and Mossadegh would win the democratic elections. The threat
of communism was the main purpose of the Cold War for the US. The Truman
Doctrine and the Marshall Plan are perfect examples of how the US government was
able to contain the spread of communism to countries that were or could be at risk
Argumentative Essay On The Second World War
The Second World War As stated by Albert Einstein, As long as there are sovereign
nations possessing great power, war is inevitable. A German dictator s political
manipulations before the Second World War began secured him absolute power. The
invasion of Poland during the war, and the formation of the United Nations after the
war. World War II was essential for the historical events that occurred in that time.
Even before the war started, pain and suffering were already widespread. Adolf Hitler
s rise to power was a monumental moment in history. According to the book, The
Life and Death of Adolf Hitler, Hitler rose to power as the result of sordid intrigues,
gifts of money to wealthy industrialists, and because soldiers of Germanyterrorized
the population (Giblin 231). Years after Hitler secured power, the Nuremburg
Laws were set in place and this is iconic because this is how the Nazis
discriminated the Jewish people. According to the Holocaust Symposium, The
Nuremberg Laws excluded the Jewish from Reich citizenship and prohibited them
from having sexual relations with German people (Glied 3). This discrimination
escalated during Kristallnacht, the Night of Broken Glass, which was the largest
pre war hate attack on the Jewish. During Kristallnacht, synagogues, Jewish homes,
and Jewish businesses were attacked and plundered by the violent anti Jewish
pogroms throughout areas occupied by German troops (Glied 4). These variables
are what will eventually start World War II. John Steinbeck once said, All war is a
symptom of man s failure as a thinking animal. The invasion of Poland is
momentous because this action marked the start of World War II. According to
History.com: Germans invade Poland, Germany invaded Poland because Hitler
thought the conquest of Poland would bring lebensraum, meaning living space, for
the German people (History, par. 1). A few years after the start of the Second
World War, The Final Solution was implemented and it was an imperative event
since it is what lead to the Jewish people being killed by the Nazis. The Final
Solution involved the Jewish people being systematically murdered in killing centers
through mass deportation (Glied 6). On June 6, 1944, D Day occurred and it was
Islam In Black America Summary
Justice and equality by any means necessary was said in one of the most
controversial speeches in history by a Nation of Islam superior named Malcolm
X. The pursuit of peace and justice has been sought after in almost every major
religion and culture. The meaning of peace and liberation within the Nation of
Islam is no different than any other oppressed or mistreated group of people.
However the way the Nation of Islam was said to market its strategy for peace and
justice of mostly African Americans was by preaching violent and even oppressive
behavior to its followers. Leaders such as Louis Farrakhan and Malcolm Xwere the
front runners of the controversial undertone of the Nation of Islam during the civil

Sue Klebold Interview Summary
Sue Klebold Interview Summary
In this recent interview, Kate Fillion (Macleans) interviewed Sue Klebold, the
mother of Dylan Klebold, one out of the two Columbine shooters, shared the
aftermath of the Columbine High School shooting. On the day of April 20, 1999 in
Columbine, Colorado, 12th graders Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris walked into
Columbine High School with guns and homemade bombs and killed 13 people,
wounded 24, and later, turned the guns on themselves. Sue Klebold is now a
suicide prevention activist and has also written a book, A Mother s Reckoning,
where she talks of the events before and after the Columbine shooting. In her book,
she writes that there were no clues of Dylan being violent and that she missed signs
of psychological deterioration. Before the events of the shooting, Dylan was a good
kid; He was in the gifted program, volunteered at a daycare centre, and had a good
school social life.

Two years before Columbine, Dylan had written in his journal about wanting to
die. His journal had talked of suicidal feelings. Another sign was a dark and violent
paper that Dylan wrote that was brought to a concern to his parents but not to full
attention. Dylan had also purchased a gun with the help of another friend, with the
impression to use for target practice but that clearly took a different direction.
Dylan was depressive and suicidal but wouldn t have likely killed anyone on his
own, said the FBI profilers. Unlike Eric Harris, who planned the attack, was a
psychopath and was incapable of empathy while also charming. Before the
Columbine shooting, Eric Harris had a website where he broadcasted threats, which
was brought to the attention of the police by Judy Brown, mother of a boy who Eric
threatened to be killed, but actions weren t made by the police to follow
Financial Statements Are Used For Track Performance
And...
Introduction Financial statements are used to track performance and explain
differences in multiple companies (Melicher Norton, 2013). The information
available on these reports is important to have if you run a company, or are
researching it for investment purposes. These statements can show where money
could have been saved, or used in a different way. They are a useful tool for
management to adjust their approach as needed. There are different industries, which
results in a variety of assets, liabilities, products, services, and approaches to
producing profit (Melicher Norton). There are large and small companies and
financial statements provide a way to research and, or compare them. The following
will discuss financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and
statement of cash flows.
Income Statement
An income statement shows the profit and expense of a company over a certain
amount of time (Melicher Norton, 2013). It is a required statement that must be
produced yearly and provides whether the company made or, lost money (Alvis
Hillstrom, 2006). As an investor it would be important to see how a company does
multiple years in a row. Accounting owns the process of developing the income
statement; this information is then used by management (Alvis Hillstrom). Whether
you are an investor or work for the company, it is beneficial to understand what the
expenses are on an income statement. Cost of goods sold is the expense for
What Is The Relationship In The Diary Of Anne Frank
Some parents love and cherish their children, but don t understand them. Most do
what they think is best for their kids, and aim to be admired by their children, but
Mr. Frank is different; he and Anne have a special bond that will last a lifetime. In
the play, The Diary of Anne Frank, by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett, the
Franks, the Van Daans, and Mr. Dussel go into hiding during Holocaust because Jews
are being persecuted more and more in Germany. They are sent to concentration
camps to die, and are suffering other versions of torture. Mr. Frank is Anne s
father, the man in charge of the annex, and he is a leader and someone who always
looks out for others. Mr. Frank understands Anne is a teenage girl that need her
father the listen to her. First of all, Mr. Frank understands Anne because he grants
her a gift she desires, a diary. The diary is a major symbolism to display how much
Mr. Frank understands her: all she wants is a dairy to map and write down her
thought. For example, in the play, Mr. Frank announced Anne, There are no walls,
there are no bolts, no locks that anyone can put on your mind (379). Mr. Frank knows
Anne so well, that he perceived that she would go insane without talking or moving,
Anne couldn t even stop laughing at what she continued to writing in her diary....

Frank understands Anne because he gave her the pictures (movie stars). Even
though they could take so little into the annex Mr. Frank realized that Anne would
have a longing for her movie stars that he brought them. For instance, in the play,
Anne shrieking to Mr. Frank, Father! My movie stars! I was wondering where they
were! I was looking for them this morning...and Queen Wilhelmina! How wonderful!

would bring movie star into a hiding place just so his daughter could be comfortable.
Therefore, Mr. Frank understands Anne so well that he give her movie
A Social Worker Has A Large And Diverse Population
A school social worker has a large and diverse population that they work with. This
can cause a variety of needs that a social worker has to try and meet. One population
a school social worker may have to work with is immigrant children. Working with
immigrant children can bring many challenges, including higher educational and
social needs, due to not fully understanding the English language. Another challenge
that may be present is working with a higher probability of these children living in
poverty. One way a school social workercan help meet the needs of immigrant
children is through after school programs. Joy Pastan Greenberg (2014) shows this in
the journal article Significance of After School Programming for Immigrant Children

After school programs have proven to have positive effects on social and emotional
development. The benefits are protection and opportunities for enrichment,
socialization, and acculturation. Also, after school programs help to increase
educational attainment. This is important when only about 20% of learning happens
in the classroom. After school programs provide activities such as art, sports,
recreation and educational enrichment. It also allows children to form relationships
with peers and adults. Another benefit of after school programs that it encourages the
development of identity and personal exploration (Greenberg, 2014, pp 243 251).
A school social worker has many different roles when working with immigrant
children. One role that a social worker has is being an advocate for the need of after
school programs. School social workers also advocate for funding at a local, state, and
federal levels. Another role is being an educator. School social workers can educate
families of the benefits that after school programs have. They can also educate the
community members about specific immigrant populations. This way the community
members can better understand more about the culture of the immigrant population in
their community and became more culturally sensitive. School social workers can
also educate policy makers on the importance of after school programs. An additional
role a social worker has in this setting is a broker, connecting

Louis XIV And The Development Of English Nationalism
In 1688 1689, England underwent a revolution that reshaped its monarchy. When
James II took the throne in 1685, the public was optimistic, but this quickly
changed. The public s view of James II went from optimistic to cynical because of
the King s refusal to take action against the French. Instead of taking action, many
viewed James II as becoming like the French monarch. In conjunction with a
declining support, James II and his wife had produced a male heir in the summer of
1688, insuring that a catholic would inherit the throne. The birth of a Catholic heir
was the breaking point for the English. The result was the English sending secret
messages to Prince William of Orange, inviting him to invade England. Marking the

When James II inherited the throne in 1685, the public expected James II to take
action against the French monarch King Louis XIV. The English people feared
King Louis XIV s would try to create a universal monarch. If Louis XIV had
created a universal monarch, all other countries would have lost their independence.
For the English, it would have meant the end to the national identity they all
valued. Unfortunately for James II, he did not take action against France. Instead,
many believed and feared that James II wanted to change the English government
to one modeled after the French Government. This fear escalated when James II
attempted to suspend the test acts by issuing the Declaration of Indulgence.
Although this declaration was supposed to encourage religious tolerance, many
English citizens did not view it that way. They viewed it as treat to the established
parliament in England. This increased fears because many compared James II
declaration to Louis XIV s acts when he invaded the supreme legal authority of
France. Because of their fear of being Frenchified, the English invited the Prince of
Orange to invade England, starting the revolution. To justify this action, Pincus
describes it best. He said, English loyalty was primarily to English law and English
customs [national identity] rather than a particular monarch. Since James had
violated that law, he ceased to be an English king and was no longer owed
obedience. In the end, the Prince of Orange arrived with the support of the majority
of the English. As a result, James II abdicated and fled to France. The Nationalist
revolution of 1688 1689 had
A Research Study On Ikea
1.0. Research Background
In the present 21st century, the pressure of market competition has increased
significantly. Under this environment, customer loyalty is the focus of both
management practice and marketing practice of modern enterprises. It is the key for
enterprises to get trust from customers and retain existing customers with the
capability to deliver added value for customers.
In the current competitive environment, customers have been provided with a wide
range of choices to satisfy their needs and demands at the global level. It means that
customers bargaining power has increased dramatically in the present business
environment. It not only adds pressure on enterprises to develop new customers, but
also increases the difficulty for enterprises to retain existing customers. Therefore, the
development of customer loyalty is often the challenges for enterprises although its
importance has been generally accepted. This research attempts to add implications
for enterprises to develop and maintain customer loyalty.
This research focuses on IKEA China as IKEA has achieved great success in China
market. As an international corporation that come from Sweden, IKEA has
established about 20 stores across China. Its products have been hotly welcome by
Chinese consumers. Based on the assumption that the capability to delivery added
value for customers is the critical success factor of IKEA, this research attempts to
investigate how customer perceived value impacts on

Soldier. What does that word mean to you? Maybe it means someone in the army,

This is when Zachary Fisher created the Fisher House Foundation and never
thought twice about it. Mr. and Mrs. Fisher both gave up $20 million dollars of
personal savings to help with these homes. This money has really payed off. Zachary
Fisher started this foundation when his friend saw a helicopter land at a medical
center. The friend saw a soldier come out wounded and told Zachary about it.
Zachary was already working on a housing project because he was a builder. This
sparked his ideas even more and he began the Fisher House Foundation. Zachary
Fisher started this because of how strong he felt towards soldiers. Can you imagine
having a family member in the army for months, even years? Then when they
come back, being wounded and having no house. An unknown author once said,
Don t stop loving because love makes up a family, never lose hope because life is
full of hope, and never give up because never giving up is the path to success. This
is what I think Zachary Fisher was going for because he really does help families
with all of those things in that quote. I believe The Fisher House Foundation is the

DNR Order (Do Not Resuscitate)
A controversy that I personally face is a DNR order (Do not Resuscitate). It is an
order written by a licensed physician. DNR is usually decided in a consultation
with a patient or a surrogate of the patient such as a parent. This choice decides
whether a patient will receive cardiopulmonary resuscitation or CPR in case of
cardiac and respiratory arrest. Many people struggle with the idea of someone not
wanting to be saved but what some people don t understand is that it s not about
saving the patient but allowing them to pass peacefully without problems.
A DNR is one of the most debated legal contracts practiced in the medicine field.
Basically, it means that if something happens to you and the situation calls for
medical intervention in order to reclaim consciousness and remain alive, you have the
power to dictate whether or not that intervention actually occurs. EMT s, doctors,
nurses and other medical personnel must stand by your wishes. If they fail to do so
they could be lawfully punished.
A strong number of people who have a DNR are elderly. Another solid number of
people who have a DNR have a very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many see it as a proxy for euthanasia. But many others also see it as a way of
suicide, due to the belief that it does not take advantage of the uses of medical
personnel and some of the tools available in medicine.
A do not resuscitate order is a complex, ethical and moral dilemma. From a medical
personnel point of view, when his/her patient is put into a situation where death is
highly likely or already reached, they will do whatever is necessary to make you
survive in that moment. But that doesn t mean that you will continue to survive long
term. Sometimes when a doctor saves you in that instance its only for an allotted
time, maybe even a couple of hours, sometimes they break your ribs in order to
make sure you survive a couple of more

tablet.
The Gaviscon antacid was the most effective at neutralising the hydrochloric acid as

gram.
The most effective antacid per gram was also Gaviscon, with 107.26 mL of HCl
neutralised per gram of the antacid.

Firstly, although it was written in the controlled variables earlier, my group did not

Ralph Emerson Biography
Ralph Waldo Emerson, born May 25, 1803, grew up in Boston, Massachusetts.
Ralph, son of Ruth Haskins and William Emerson, was the fourth of eighth children
born from Ruth and William Emerson. Although he had many siblings, only few
survived throughout his childhood. William Emerson, Ralph s father, was one of
Boston s leading citizens, and a Unitarian Minister. Ralph went to Boston Latin
School in 1812 when he was nine years old. In October 1817, at age fourteen,
Emerson went to Harvard College and was arranged freshman messenger for the
president, requiring Emerson to fetch errant students and send messages to faculty.
As a student, he studied more and relaxed less than some of his classmates. He won
several minor prizes for his writing. When... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There he was the center of discussion known as the Transcendentalist Club; where the
members met up to discuss religious and philosophical issues. They spoke out against
rationalism and materialism some movements best known are the essays by Emerson
and Walden s: Life in the wood (1854). The name Transcendental Club was given to
the group by the public and not by its participants. The name was coined in a January
1837 review of Emerson s essay Nature and was intended disparagingly. Ralph and
another group member created the theory of Transcendentalism, meaning; humanity
and nature are in essence the same are merely different manifestations of the divine
spirt. Transcendentalism has been one of the most influential ideas in American
history.

Slaughterhouse Five, By Kurt Vonnegut
War is hell goes the commonly used phrase. While conducted with a purpose in mind,
many believe war to bring nothing but violence and death. In the history of mankind
and combat, men have committed many abominable acts against one another as a
means to an end. The bombing of Dresden, Germany, one of these loathsome deeds,
while seldom mentioned and not widely known, remains one of the deadliest air raids
in history. Just as in all largely fatal events, the survivors reflect upon the unbearable
guilt and emotions they have experienced. Billy Pilgrim, the main protagonist In
Kurt Vonneguts novel Slaughterhouse Five, serves as Vonnegut s vehicle to
communicate his feelings and contemplations as a survivor. Throughout the story,
Pilgrim, or the reader encounters an animal that Vonnegut uses to convey the
range of emotions and incidents that humans are subject to as a result of war. In
the novel, a mysterious dog resides alongside fear and adversity. In multiple
instances throughout Pilgrim s story, a big dog barks when a character returns the
stare of terror or hardship. In an effort to save the life of a Billy Pilgrim, who, out
of fear, had lost the will to live, Roland Weary happens across the canine. ...trying to
find out what had happened to Billy....He passed under a low branch now. It hit the
top of his helmet with a clonk. Weary didn t hear it. Somewhere a big dog was
barking. Weary didn t hear that, either... Billy was terrified (Vonnegut 54 55). Billy

Frederick Douglass Importance Of Education
Frederick Douglass was born as Frederick Augustus Washington Bailey around
1818 into slavery (biography.com). He served as a slave during his childhood and
early adulthood on farms in Maryland, on the east coast of the United States
(biography.com). After being enslaved, he later learned how to read and write and
became a leading and inspiring voice in the abolitionist movement (history.com).
He then wrote a narrative about his life called Narrative of the Life of Frederick
Douglass which generally shows his path from slavery to freedom. At the beginning
of the narrative, Douglass is a slave, physically and mentally. At the end of the story,
Douglass found his way to legal freedom and most importantly also gains the ability
to free his mind with the help of education. This essay deals with the question in how
far education allows Douglass to free himself and helps him... Show more content on

Further, this was also the moment when Frederick understood the pathway from
slavery to freedom (Douglass 36). He finds out that he was restricted from
education in order to keep the structure and understands that he must become
literate to gain power. Moreover, he appreciates the realization about the value of
education as a grand achievement: Whilst I was saddened by the thought of losing
the aid of my kind mistress, I was gladdened by the invaluable instruction which, by
the merest accident, I had gained from my master (Douglass 36 37). Nevertheless,
Frederick did continue learning how to read and write as stated in his biography:
Thus, after a long, tedious effort for years, I finally succeeded in learning how to
write (Douglass 46). This was a life changing achievement for Douglass, since he
realised that knowledge brings power, helps to develop your own character and to
gain wisdom. Moreover, it helps to participate in
The Government s Freedom Of Press
Since the Turkish state was founded by Mustafa Kemal AtatГјrk in 1923, the press in
Turkey has never been free. The first government was ruled by the AtatГјrk s party,
the Republican People s Party (CHP), which claimed to be liberal and modernist;
however, they made a law which could shut down and /or censor any newspapers
which they did not like. (Bulut, 2015). During the CHP era, 130 newspapers and
magazines were banned. Although many parties names have changed throughout the
years, the ruling ideology has been the same. For instance, during the rule of Prime
Minister Adnan Menderes(1950 1960, Democrat Party), 161 newspapers were
banned (YД±lmaz, Doganer, 2007). Unfortunately, today s freedom of press in
Turkey has further worsened. At the end of 2011, 110,000 websites were shut down
by the AKP governments attempts. (Depeli, 2012). Many journalists were arrested,
tortured and imprisoned. Most of the cases were associated with terrorism.
According to the BIA Media Monitoring Reports, 104 journalists and 30 distributors
were imprisoned in 2012. Also 64 of the journalists were Kurdish as well as almost
all distributors. (Depeli, 20112).
When AtatГјrk founded the Republic of Turkey, his ideology was to westernize the
country through changing the education and political systems. Even though the
majority of the population of Turkey supported the Kemalist (AtatГјrkist) ideology
today and his modern world view , they never acknowledge some of the genocides
that happened
Leadership In Crimson Tide
Q:1
In the film, Crimson Tide, First Captain Ramsey, and First Lieutenant Commander,
Hunter Second Captain in command displayed opposite communication and
leadership styles. Ramsey s leadership style exemplified Fiedler s contingency
Theory of Leadership. Ramsey s behavior was manipulative, vindictive and
dictatorial. He took advantage of his superiority to persuade and influence the men in
getting what he wants them to do. Shearouse, pointed out in the podcast that conflict
is not always destructive and that most managers do not realize the messages they are
sending. Most often, they want what they want, need and expect, it is the agreement
that gets in the way of what the other person wants, needs or expects. Ramsey s

He seemed more concerned. For instance, the incident with the fire where one of the
crew members died and supervisors fight. Hunter realized the mannerism of both

priorities. This also showed an open door policy, which is important for most
organizations and teams. Jargon was used throughout the film. (George Jones, 2012)
states, Messages encoded with jargon leads t effective communication when senders
and receivers are members of the same occupation or profession. , (p. 411). The
younger crew members were not as familiar with the hands on experience of jargon

Two differences of opinion in regards to launching the missiles caused a confrontation
of conflict and interest in differences of opinion. There choices led to an interrogation
which the outcome was in their favor. Systematically, at the end of the journey,
Ramsey and Hunter both received awards for their duty and assignments. Hunter
received a recommendation to move up the chain of command and Ramsey received

The Behavior Of A College Student Sleep
The behavior I have chosen to modify is my sleeping behavior. As a college student
sleep is something that I don t get enough. I chose to modify this behavior because
sleep is an important part of life. I want to be tired when I go to bed and awake when
I get up in the morning. I wanted to modify this behavior because I think having
good sleeping patterns is a good trait to have in life. So much more can be done when
we are awake and refreshed after a full night s sleep. My goal is to be in bed at 10:30
pm every school night. I wanted to be able to have everything done by that time so
that I could get 9 hours of sleep every night. My punishment is that I can t take a
nap the following day if I don t go to bed on time. I observed my... Show more

hard to get rid of I realized through my baseline data. My original goal was to be in
bed at 10:30 pm every school night. I wanted to be able to have everything done by
that time so that I could get 9 hours of sleep every night. I saw that the first night
wasn t as bad because I knew that I wanted to be in at the certain time and I
planned my day as according. However, it was trickier the 2nd day, because I have
a different schedule and work (I ended up going to bed at 1045pm that night. And
on the 3rd day, I completely saw that I would not be going to be earlier because I
had later classes and same deal, certain work due at the certain time that took
longer than before and I had work study. My roommate wanted to be a part of
helping me with my Behavior Modification so; she will also be keeping track of
my sleeping patterns and recording the different types of things I do that prevent
me from sleeping the number of hours I need/want. She will also be helping me
come up with more variations of how to help me with my goal when modifying my
experiment. Some of the factors that contribute to the irregular patterns of sleeping
are solely attributed to what I do during the daytime. Especially once I overwork
myself, may a play a lot during the day, there is a likely hood that I suffer

Matt Bollero Is The Director Of Staffing For The
Milwaukee...
Matt Bollero is the director of scouting for the Milwaukee Bucks after accepting the
position in the summer of 2017. Before that he was a pro personnel scout for the
Minnesota Timberwolves, and he graduated from DePauw University in 2008 with a
bachelor s degree in kinesiology. The Bucks are a professional basketballteam and a
member of the National Basketball Association(NBA) after being founded as an
expansion team in 1968. The team currently has one of the top ten players in the
league with the twenty three year old Giannis Antetokounmpo, and they are believed
to be one of the up and coming teams in the near future. Contact information for both
the Bucks and Matt can be found on nba.com.

Have they worked camps or coached?
4. Are they showing passion and dedication to trying to find new ways to get
involved with the game?
5. Is the person willing to sacrifice to achieve their goal?
The last quality of a scout is usually the hardest to come by as one might guess
because of being on the road for so long. It is tough to keep a family in this job
because of time commitments, and the starting pay can be quite low. Scouts
usually report to the director of scouting, and then the director reports to upper
management such as the general manager, assistant general manager, vice
president of global scouting, and director of strategy. It is also possible that scouts
and the director will also be heavily involved with coaches within the organization.
The information gathered will help teams in many ways. It allows them to draft
the best possible player and to get the best free agents for the right price, but it
helps them prepare for games against opposing teams. These three parts are vital
when it comes to winning in the present but also in future years. Matt said that the
most exciting part about his job was being able to win and being such a big part of
the process. Matt gave some advice to me that would be good for any college
student looking to get this job or a similar one. Get involved in the basketball career
field as soon as possible doing as much as possible. Experience is everything in this
business. If he had done anything different he would have

The Pearl By John Steinbeck Essay.pdf

  • 1. The Pearl By John Steinbeck Essay Writing an essay on "The Pearl" by John Steinbeck can be both challenging and rewarding. On one hand, the novel provides rich material for analysis, exploring themes such as greed, the corrupting influence of wealth, and the consequences of societal expectations. On the other hand, the depth and complexity of the narrative require careful attention to detail and a nuanced understanding of the characters and their motivations. One difficulty lies in deciphering the layers of symbolism embedded in Steinbeck's prose. The pearl itself, a seemingly simple object, represents various facets of human nature, economic disparity, and the elusive nature of happiness. Unraveling these symbolic threads and weaving them into a coherent argument can be a daunting task. Additionally, addressing the cultural and historical context in which the novel is set adds another layer of complexity. Steinbeck's portrayal of a Mexican indigenous community and their struggles introduces an intricate socio-political backdrop that requires thorough research and understanding to present a well-informed analysis. Crafting a thesis statement that captures the essence of the essay and guides the reader through the analysis poses another challenge. The essay must go beyond summarizing the plot and delve into the deeper meanings and implications of the events and characters. Moreover, maintaining a balance between personal interpretation and scholarly analysis is crucial. It's easy to fall into the trap of subjective opinions without grounding them in the text, or conversely, to become so focused on academic analysis that the essay loses its voice and engagement. In conclusion, writing an essay on "The Pearl" by John Steinbeck demands a blend of literary analysis, cultural awareness, and critical thinking. It is a task that requires careful navigation through the layers of the narrative, attention to detail, and a thoughtful exploration of the novel's themes and characters. However, overcoming these challenges can lead to a profound understanding of the text and a rewarding essay that contributes to the ongoing discourse surrounding this literary classic. Low levels of ascorbic acid can result in loose teeth, anemia, inability to heal quickly, and easier bruising. In general, though, people with fairly healthy diets get enough of this 3 substance without supplementation. When a person s diet is low in vitamin C, supplementation should be considered to promote overall health. Since most cooking methods deplete the content of vitamin C, one of the best methods for adding it to one s diet is to eat citrus fruits raw, or to very lightly cook green vegetables like broccoli. Spinach salad is a tasty way to add more vitamin C to your diet. Vitamin C has recently been added not just to many foods, but also to

  • 4. Baseball Of The Baseball Rule INTRODUCTION Baseball ballpark owners owe a duty of care to spectators who attend games their stadiums. Historically, there has been a devotion to the baseball rule , which is essentially a tool of public policy used to protect stadium owners. However, there is very little consensus on what exactly the rule entails and how it is applied across all jurisdictions. While this rule is justified based on a limited amount of data, Gallatin legislature should either reshape it to better reflect modern tort doctrine or continue operating on a case by case basis, taking all facts and situation based evidence into account. BASEBALL RULE The Baseball Rule has been widely adopted by courts in jurisdiction considering the legal duty of landowners owed to spectators at baseball games. The Baseball Rule has two main components: the owner must screen the most dangerous section of the field (typically the area behind the Homeplate) and the screening provided must be adequate to provide covering for as many spectators who desire protected seats. Spectators that willingly choose to watch the game in unscreened areas assume the open and obvious risk of being struck by a ball. With the Baseball Rule clearly limiting the landowner s legal duty, ballpark owners avoid potential lawsuits for every ball that strikes a spectator. Without the Baseball Rule, under general principles of landowner liability for negligence, spectator injuries are considered on a case by case basis upon criteria
  • 5. Why Men Are More Talented At Design Than Women There is no way to accurately measure the success rate of designers based on sex or sexual orientation, or, somewhat speciously, to examine if men are more talented at design than women. As Valerie Steele, the chief curator of the Museum of the Fashion Institute of Technology, said: There is no gay gene for creativity. But circumstantial evidence is making some designers wonder about the disparities. Of the young American designers most embraced by retailers and celebrated in the fashion press in recent years, the roll call is almost exclusively male: Zac Posen, Marc Jacobs, Narciso Rodriguez and Mr. Som as well as Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler. Their female contemporaries have had a harder time breaking through, among them Behnaz Sarafpour, Alice Roi and Ms. Subkoff. Gay men stick together like a band of brothers, Ms. Subkoff said in an interview. It s more common for a man to bring up a younger assistant who is male and be proud of that, she added, whereas a woman would be threatened to promote another woman. The Council of Fashion Designers of America, a trade group that vets those who apply for membership, is made up of 121 women and 156 men. Since 1986 its annual Perry Ellis awards for young talent have been given to 8 women and 29 men (20 of them openly gay). Who s Who in Fashion, a directory published by Fairchild Publications, is split 60 40 in favor of men, and The Encyclopedia of Clothing and Fashion, published last year

Kerr McGee case raised new questions about safety of workers in the nuclear industry. At the plant where Silkwood worked, employees worked with plutonium, which presents a high risk of serious health complications on the internal organs, tissues, and bone, especially if the element is inhaled or has any sort of internal contact. Silkwood was a laboratory analyst
  • 7. The Cathedral Of Notre Dame The Cathedral of Notre Dame in Reims, northeast of Paris near Champagne was the coronation church of the kings of France and was an educational and cultural center. Also built of limestone, the architecture of the Reims Cathedral features Gothic style. It symbolizes an Early Gothic, Radiant Gothic and Flamboyant Gothic. The Reims Cathedral depicts a classic harmonic facade containing four levels. Its interior is defined by its towering heights and narrow proportions, and elaborate sculptural works. Because of the high quality of workmanship and materials used, Reims Cathedral features some of the most beautiful gothic art in existence. Five different cathedrals have been on the site on which Reims cathedral now sits since 401 CE. The current cathedral was built in 1211, after the previous cathedral had burned down. The new building was almost entirely finished by the end of the thirteenth century. 88 gargoyles were counted on the Reims Cathedral and are mainly used to drain off rainwater and are exceptional pieces of work, but do show the slight difference between Gothic and Romanesque styles. The stained glass windows are a beautiful part of Reims despite being damaged or ruined several times in the 18th century; the cathedral still has many 13th century stained glass windows, in the upper parts of the nave, choir and transept. On the opposite side of the great western portal, the Great Rose Window, dating from the end of the 13th century, represents the Crowning

He notes: The decade following the Civil War saw a division in the Church in the North. One point of contention was missionary societies between Isaac Errett and Benjamin Franklin. The Louisville Plan restructured the Society with the aim of maintaing peace in the brotherhood (Humble 57). The restructuring however ultimately failed for lack of funds. The question of instrumental music was asked in 1851, and the discussion broadened between 1864 1865 when W. K. Pendleton saw instruments as mere expediency. Some, such as McGarvey and Moses E. Lard, stood fast in opposing the use of instruments. Another conservative, Benjamin Franklin, said: Better is poor singing where love is, than the grandest tones of the organ and hatred therewith. (Humble 60). In 1906 the Churches of Christ and the Christian Church were officially listed separately in the United States Census. This was mostly based on the use of instruments or not. Humble notes: In 1896 J.D. Tant estimated that more than a hundred Texas congregations had divided over the use of instrumental music. (Humble 65). Nevertheless, in 1916, Churches of Christ in Texas were more numerous than Christian Churches (Humble 66). Division seemed to be spotlighted in progressives and conservatives, but division abounded in each group as well. For example, many conservatives agreed against societies and instruments, but

Originally published in 1789, Equiano s narrative went through a series of revisions throughout his lifetime, finally becoming a bestseller. Equiano s treasured writing depicts his personal accounts from childhood, holding the status of an African aristocrat in Benin, West Africa, to being kidnapped and forced into slaveryin the infamous Middle Passage slave trade. While slavery, attempts to divest Equiano of his hope for freedom, his narrative asserts that spirituality and literary works produce its own liberty and identity in the world. From the inception of this narrative, the reader learns quickly how Equiano plans to escape the bondage of slavery. Part of the dehumanizing nature of slavery is to strip the slaves of their natural identity and substitute it with a falsehood that can be controlled and render them powerless. His autobiography shows us a slave who discovers how to obtain his freedom through his own spiritual empowerment. In Equiano s introductory quote, his engagement with the reader expresses his profound confidence in God. He attests to his faith with Bibleverses from the book of Isaiah. One reads

The longest paragraph on most collection requests is the justification for the collection, which has no effect on the collection and is of no interest to the collector. Collection and collection management are broken, but that is an issue beyond the role of the intelligence community. Collection is a command issue because it involves many military assets. I applied my Content and Pedagogy PGE to this lesson using teaching strategies I acquired at the Argument Writing Workshop. For example, I began with an icebreaker called This or That, reading aloud a series of controversial statements. Students who agreed with a statement moved to one side of the room; those who disagreed moved to the other side. Then students took turns explaining their choices. I also incorporated close reading strategies covered at the workshop. I applied my Assessment PGE, using Lexile scores to select texts and initially group students. One goal for the featured lesson was for students to learn the language of argument writing (claim, counterclaim, ethos, logos, pathos, etc.). I also wanted students to deduce an author s position in a text, cite supporting evidence, and analyze text to identify rhetorical devices. I assessed the featured lesson by observing student involvement in the discussions and reading the notes students took over the course of the unit. The final assessment was for each student to write an argument essay on illegal immigration. The broader context for this lesson was for students to think critically, work collaboratively, and use effective communication skills. I also wanted students to consider real world problems and gain respect for differing viewpoints often based on cultural background and experience. Argument writing is the most used

  • 26. The, Bernardino Of Siena, And Martin Le Franc Voices of men have traditionally been the loudest, and therefore most important in history, especially in Medieval Europe where male academics and preachers had the most influence on the lower classes and upper classes. Those accused of witchcraft were disproportionately female, and the writing and sermons from this era clearly set the groundwork for misogynistic witch hunts which are to come in the Early Modern period. The works of Burchard of Worms, William of Malmesbury, Jacobus de Voragine, Bernardino of Siena, and Martin Le Franc each perpetuate different stereotypes of magic which all address the idea of genderin sorcery. While not all of these texts take explicitly misogynistic or misandristic positions, they give insight into whether or not gender was a main issue in determining who was or wasn t a witch. However, it s important to keep in mind whose voice is being heard in these texts: often well respected, upper class, or clerical men. As a result of these authors positions, they have influence far beyond their parishes and countries and, therefore, can define, both explicitly and implicitly, what ideas are correct about the behavior of women, specifically regarding witchcraft. Because these texts were written by men, there is a clear and distinct bias about women s behavior and their possible involvement in the magical arts, however there are some notable variations that still establish harmfully unattainable ideal. The majority of the writings and preachings

Sealed Air is a company that manufactures and distributes a variety of protective packaging materials and systems. It was founded in 1960 and has grown rapidly throughout its first 25 years of business. During 1987 and 1988, it became apparent from a performance side that management needed to focus on the manufacturing component, which historically was neglected in favor of marketing and sales. Although their revolutionary and significant products have gotten them to where they are, the company was reliant on their old ways causing a causing efficiency and external problems. When inspecting the efficiency ratios of Sealed Air from 1987 to 1988, the collection period increased from 58.24 days to 61.36 days interpreting that it is taking longer to collect credit sales from their distributers. This expresses a negative sign from business partners. Sealed Air s inventory turnover ratio went from 6.37 to 6.36 showing no dramatic change, but shows that the company sold more goods than held inventory due to the fact a customer will pay for it. Lastly, their payable day s ratio went from 39.56 to 38.69. Again, not a significant change, but shows that Sealed Air s distributors aren t waiting to receive payments. Their profit margin from 1987 to 1988 decreased about 1%, but in 1989, increased about 1.5%. Sealed Air s operating performance has remained stable from the periods

  • 30. The Success Of The American Government Essay The American government is known to promote democratic values throughout the world. Though the ideals America was fighting for during the Cold War, the government still managed to participate in the overthrow of democratically elected Prime Minister, Mohammed Mossadegh. Mossadegh threatened to nationalize Irans oil in 1951 and later gained the support of the Iranian government. The British companies had many investments in Iranian oil. It is with the approval of nationalization that the economies of both British and Iran were ultimately harmed. The British government requested the help of the US so that they could perform a coup to overthrow Mossadegh. With suspicions of Mossadegh supporting communism, and being supported by the Tudeh Party, the United States government was willing to sacrifice their democratic ideologies and credibility in the region for the insurance of an anti communist leader. This would prove to cause problems that still resonate in today s political and military negotiations in this region. The people of Iran were for the support of anything except for a monarch under the rule of the Shah. This was very clear as he had fallen out of favor during his rule and Mossadegh would win the democratic elections. The threat of communism was the main purpose of the Cold War for the US. The Truman Doctrine and the Marshall Plan are perfect examples of how the US government was able to contain the spread of communism to countries that were or could be at risk
  • 31. Argumentative Essay On The Second World War The Second World War As stated by Albert Einstein, As long as there are sovereign nations possessing great power, war is inevitable. A German dictator s political manipulations before the Second World War began secured him absolute power. The invasion of Poland during the war, and the formation of the United Nations after the war. World War II was essential for the historical events that occurred in that time. Even before the war started, pain and suffering were already widespread. Adolf Hitler s rise to power was a monumental moment in history. According to the book, The Life and Death of Adolf Hitler, Hitler rose to power as the result of sordid intrigues, gifts of money to wealthy industrialists, and because soldiers of Germanyterrorized the population (Giblin 231). Years after Hitler secured power, the Nuremburg Laws were set in place and this is iconic because this is how the Nazis discriminated the Jewish people. According to the Holocaust Symposium, The Nuremberg Laws excluded the Jewish from Reich citizenship and prohibited them from having sexual relations with German people (Glied 3). This discrimination escalated during Kristallnacht, the Night of Broken Glass, which was the largest pre war hate attack on the Jewish. During Kristallnacht, synagogues, Jewish homes, and Jewish businesses were attacked and plundered by the violent anti Jewish pogroms throughout areas occupied by German troops (Glied 4). These variables are what will eventually start World War II. John Steinbeck once said, All war is a symptom of man s failure as a thinking animal. The invasion of Poland is momentous because this action marked the start of World War II. According to History.com: Germans invade Poland, Germany invaded Poland because Hitler thought the conquest of Poland would bring lebensraum, meaning living space, for the German people (History, par. 1). A few years after the start of the Second World War, The Final Solution was implemented and it was an imperative event since it is what lead to the Jewish people being killed by the Nazis. The Final Solution involved the Jewish people being systematically murdered in killing centers through mass deportation (Glied 6). On June 6, 1944, D Day occurred and it was

The public s view of James II went from optimistic to cynical because of the King s refusal to take action against the French. Instead of taking action, many viewed James II as becoming like the French monarch. In conjunction with a declining support, James II and his wife had produced a male heir in the summer of 1688, insuring that a catholic would inherit the throne. When James II inherited the throne in 1685, the public expected James II to take action against the French monarch King Louis XIV. The English people feared King Louis XIV s would try to create a universal monarch. If Louis XIV had created a universal monarch, all other countries would have lost their independence. For the English, it would have meant the end to the national identity they all valued. Unfortunately for James II, he did not take action against France. Instead, many believed and feared that James II wanted to change the English government to one modeled after the French Government. This fear escalated when James II attempted to suspend the test acts by issuing the Declaration of Indulgence. Although this declaration was supposed to encourage religious tolerance, many English citizens did not view it that way. They viewed it as treat to the established parliament in England. This increased fears because many compared James II declaration to Louis XIV s acts when he invaded the supreme legal authority of France. Because of their fear of being Frenchified, the English invited the Prince of Orange to invade England, starting the revolution. To justify this action, Pincus describes it best. He said, English loyalty was primarily to English law and English customs [national identity] rather than a particular monarch. Since James had violated that law, he ceased to be an English king and was no longer owed obedience. In the end, the Prince of Orange arrived with the support of the majority of the English. As a result, James II abdicated and fled to France. The Nationalist revolution of 1688 1689 had

Once these soldiers come back home, they won t have as much as when they left for war. This is sad because these soldiers just made your life better. Mr. and Mrs. Fisher both gave up $20 million dollars of personal savings to help with these homes. This money has really payed off. Zachary was already working on a housing project because he was a builder. This sparked his ideas even more and he began the Fisher House Foundation. Zachary Fisher started this because of how strong he felt towards soldiers. Can you imagine having a family member in the army for months, even years? Then when they come back, being wounded and having no house. An unknown author once said, Don t stop loving because love makes up a family, never lose hope because life is full of hope, and never give up because never giving up is the path to success. This is what I think Zachary Fisher was going for because he really does help families with all of those things in that quote. I believe The Fisher House Foundation is the greatest foundation because of the
  • 41. DNR Order (Do Not Resuscitate) A controversy that I personally face is a DNR order (Do not Resuscitate). It is an order written by a licensed physician. DNR is usually decided in a consultation with a patient or a surrogate of the patient such as a parent. This choice decides whether a patient will receive cardiopulmonary resuscitation or CPR in case of cardiac and respiratory arrest. Many people struggle with the idea of someone not wanting to be saved but what some people don t understand is that it s not about saving the patient but allowing them to pass peacefully without problems. A DNR is one of the most debated legal contracts practiced in the medicine field. Basically, it means that if something happens to you and the situation calls for medical intervention in order to reclaim consciousness and remain alive, you have the power to dictate whether or not that intervention actually occurs. EMT s, doctors, nurses and other medical personnel must stand by your wishes. If they fail to do so they could be lawfully punished. A strong number of people who have a DNR are elderly. From a medical personnel point of view, when his/her patient is put into a situation where death is highly likely or already reached, they will do whatever is necessary to make you survive in that moment. But that doesn t mean that you will continue to survive long term. Sometimes when a doctor saves you in that instance its only for an allotted time, maybe even a couple of hours, sometimes they break your ribs in order to make sure you survive a couple of more

Discussion/Errors: Firstly, although it was written in the controlled variables earlier, my group did not follow the idea of one person performing the same job each test. This may have altered the results, as each member of the group would measure, pour, calculate (etc.) substances differently to each other. However, this could simply be avoided for next time by ensuring that each student has only one or two specific jobs, and they do not change to others during the

In the history of mankind and combat, men have committed many abominable acts against one another as a means to an end. The bombing of Dresden, Germany, one of these loathsome deeds, while seldom mentioned and not widely known, remains one of the deadliest air raids in history. • 46. The Government s Freedom Of Press Since the Turkish state was founded by Mustafa Kemal AtatГјrk in 1923, the press in Turkey has never been free. The first government was ruled by the AtatГјrk s party, the Republican People s Party (CHP), which claimed to be liberal and modernist; however, they made a law which could shut down and /or censor any newspapers which they did not like. (Bulut, 2015). During the CHP era, 130 newspapers and magazines were banned. Although many parties names have changed throughout the years, the ruling ideology has been the same. For instance, during the rule of Prime Minister Adnan Menderes(1950 1960, Democrat Party), 161 newspapers were banned (YД±lmaz, Doganer, 2007). Unfortunately, today s freedom of press in Turkey has further worsened. At the end of 2011, 110,000 websites were shut down by the AKP governments attempts. (Depeli, 2012). Many journalists were arrested, tortured and imprisoned. Most of the cases were associated with terrorism. According to the BIA Media Monitoring Reports, 104 journalists and 30 distributors were imprisoned in 2012. Also 64 of the journalists were Kurdish as well as almost all distributors. The last quality of a scout is usually the hardest to come by as one might guess because of being on the road for so long. It is tough to keep a family in this job because of time commitments, and the starting pay can be quite low. Scouts usually report to the director of scouting, and then the director reports to upper management such as the general manager, assistant general manager, vice president of global scouting, and director of strategy. It is also possible that scouts and the director will also be heavily involved with coaches within the organization. The information gathered will help teams in many ways.
