North Korean Political Policies On North Korea
Introduction
Beginning in the early 1940 s, Korea has been a split nation; the great divide that happened in initially
in 1945 was just the beginning of what would become one of the world s most infamous splits of a
country. Radically different in political regime and agenda, these countries provide for a very complex
case study of border conflict. Due to its extremely repressive regime, North Korea stands as one of the
worst places to call home in the world, while South Korea is incredibly more liberal. Despite the
inescapable amounts of propaganda imposed on the citizens of North Korea, the current generations of
North Koreans hold ties to South Korea through separated family, making South Korea a very
attractive but forbidden land. While South Korea continues to center its foreign policy on loosening
the strict rule of the North Korean government, North Korea remains stubborn and the struggle
remains in tow with the stark differentiation between ideologies politically, militarily, and culturally.
History of Korea
In the mid 10th century, the Silla regime was overtaken by the Goryea regime in what is today Korea
when it was one land, and one people. The name Korea was directly derived from the pronunciation of
the Goryea. (Shelley, 500). The first separation of the territory of Korea came after World War II
ended, and the Soviets occupied the Northern portion of Korea, while the Americans occupied the
Southern portion. This separation was never actually intended to

Youth International Party Research Paper
The Youth International party was an American activism group, born out of the anti war movement,
concerned with civil rights. The Youth International Party has also been referred to as Yippies, who are
now known for their theatrical style of collective action during the sixties. The group mainly consisted
of hippies, counterculture revolutionist, political workers, and activists. The Yippies harbored
collective action by using elements of performance to demonstrate their cause. In 1967 to 1968,
Yippies constructed multiple street demonstrations in protest of the United States military involvement
in the Vietnam War. The group was founded by Abbie Hoffman and Jerry Rubin, two men that became
a symbol for radical activism. The group was founded by the two activist in 1968.
Yippies goal for these performances were, protesting Johnson s Vietnam policy, argued for an end to
the draft, and made the case for a different kind of American society, one based not on capitalism but
cooperation. (Shawyer 2008: 14) Yippies strategies were to use street theatre to create an experience to
draw attention to America and communicate that the average American did not have any control over
the political processes that go on. Yippies recognized how this issue ... Show more content on

political system, in the country and in its institutions. (Johnson 2008) Through this breakdown of
traditional norms and expectations, the Yippies were able use the platform they had created to bring

Enlightenment In Hermann Hesse s Siddhartha
In Hermann Hesse s Siddhartha, it is crucial to understand that the attainment of spiritual
enlightenment is not confined to a single journey or path of life. Because the path to enlightenment is
unique to the experience of the individual, it is not something that can be taught by the spiritually
awakened. Hesse demonstrates this idea through the parting ways of Siddhartha and Govinda, two
friends who have shared their entire lives with each other. After meaningful encounters with several
other characters, Siddhartha meets Govinda once again in a time of need. The separation and reunion
of the two emphasizes that companionship, a motif exhibited throughout the novel, has a profound
effect on both Govinda and Siddhartha s path to enlightenment.
The relationship between Siddhartha and Govinda is illustrated as that of a leader and a follower, or a
mentor and a pupil. While Siddhartha is admired by all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After his informance of the Buddha s location, Govinda says, ...we have reached our goal and our
journey is at an end (26). This, in combination with Siddhartha s rejection of the Buddha, supports the
idea that Siddhartha and Govinda exist in different stages of a cycle, where Siddhartha is a mentor,
and Govinda remains a pupil. Siddhartha tires of others teachings and wishes to learn through
experience Govinda is the exact opposite, a person who appreciates learning from others and assumes
that following the Buddha s teachings is the final step of his personal journey. Despite Siddhartha s
contrasting views, he is supportive of Govinda s decision: Govinda, my friend, you have taken the
step, you have chosen your path...Often I have thought: will Govinda ever take a step without me,
from his own conviction? (30). He, as Govinda s friend and the wiser of the two, recognizes that this
is an important step in Govinda s

Comparison of Two Historical Art Periods
Comparison of Two Historical Art Periods:
Middle Ages (Gothic) and Renaissance Architecture
Christina Plunkett

Gothic style came about in the middle of the twelfth century. It was named after the Goths that
controlled France during that time. It was developed as a result of Christian ideals. Christian leaders
wanted big, tall, ornate churches to represent their strong faith. Later it was also used for non religious
buildings such as castles, walls, bridges, and gates. Citizens of the time period wanted striking, rich
looking churches to represent their success and wealth, also leading to Gothic style. Common Gothic
features include the pointed arch, the rib vault, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the Middle Ages The Black Plague hit the population. Because of a declining population, other
aspects of life were affected negatively such as agriculture and politics. The Renaissance, however,
saw a turn around for Europe. There were new beginnings in the government and the life of it s
citizens. There was a major culture shift from the 14th to the 16th century. In the Middle Ages, many
people were suffering from disease and starvation. It was not a stable time for Europe. The Hundred
Year s War compounded their problems. Europeans lost faith in the church resulting in a decline of
religious faiths. There were a large amount of Popes going through the Catholic Church during that
time known as the Great Schism. The Schism lasted for forty years and resulted from financial
mismanagement in the church. The Renaissance was an opportunity to reform European society.
Humanism became a common philosophy. Individualism and education were now important. Life did
not revolve around religion and the church had less power. More people saw themselves as a greater
being than God. The influence of Renaissance Architecture on the rest of the world was significant.
There are many government buildings in North American that are modeled after the classical,
symmetrical lines of the Renaissance period. Modern architects still study and try to reproduce the
beauty, simplicity, and magnificence of Renaissance

From 0°C to 30°C there is a gradual increase of absorbency which shows that as the temperature
increases it is denaturing the cell wall and cell membrane and allowing the beetroot pigment to leek
out into the distilled water.
As soon as the sample of beetroot is placed into the distilled water diffusion occurs naturally, which is
the net movement of molecules from a region of high concentration (beetroot sample) to a region of
low concentration (distilled water).

Within my data which I collected I have found one anomaly. The anomaly is taken from my second
row of results (highlighted in red).
At the temperature 40°C, the first result I collected from this temperature was 0.75 arbitrary units and
from the re test results at the same temperature I got 0.41 arbitrary units. This is a difference of 0.34
arbitrary units.
This piece of data is not what I would have expected due to the first set of results, although the data at
55°C on the first and second tests are relatively the same.
Evaluation of Practical Work:
The anomaly which I have identified at 40°C is 0.41 arbitrary units this could be due to the size of the
sample of beetroot used, if the sample was smaller than the other samples it was have less pigment
which would suggested why the result is lower than expected. Another suggestion for why the result is
lower than expected could be due to the loss of pigment in the preparation process, or from where the
sample was taken from on the beetroot.
If the sample was taken from the centre of the beetroot the sample may have had more pigment
contained within the cells, but if the sample was taken from closer to the surface of the beetroot it

Dark Side Leadership And How They Can Get Into Power
Dark side leadership creates problems for organisations and the individual, the most common form of
this being derailment. Smart (1999) estimated that the cost of a failed executive to be $2.7 million.
This essay is going to focus on what dark side leadership is and how they can get into power when the
consequences can be so great. The drawbacks of such research will be discussed and alternative
explanations explored. Before concluding that an inclusive approach must be adopted.
The majority of research into how destructive leaders can get into power has focussed on the
individual themselves. Kenny and Zaccaro (1983) investigated leader emergence and found that 48
82% of the variance in leadership emergence was due to personality. The area of dark side leadership
lacks coherence around definitions and causations (Slattery, 2009). The majority of this essay will
focus on personality explaining dark side leadership emergence. Firstly, it is important to look at
leadership emergence with regards to dark side traits as proposed by Hogan and Hogan (1997). Dark
side traits are defined as traits that are undesirable, that are present in excess and not traits in which
they are lacking (Hogan Hogan, 2001). They identified 11 subclinical traits that can be present in dark
side leaders, e.g. narcissism, by using the Hogan Development Survey. They are termed subclinical
because they are perceived to be less prominent than clinical traits but still measure the degree to

Analysis Of The Man In The Black Suit
The story The Man in the Black Suit written by Stephen King, can take the reader back in time to
1914 to walk a mile in Gary s shoes. Throughout this story there is a great deal of imagery. Imagery is
used help bring the story to life using descriptive elements to grasp the mental image that Stephen
King is trying to convey. Imagery however isn t the only element in the story to help draw in the
reader. The use of themes and connections with symbolism also help tie in the whole story together
and to help certainly draw in the reader. The first thing we notice as we read is the use of fascinating
detail. We come to know as a reader that the main character Gary, a nine year old boy who comes face
to face with a man in a black suit. Which so happens to also be the title of Stephen Kings short story.
Before we meet this character, we start off reading about how the story is being told. Gary is in present
day as an 89 year old man currently living in a nursing home writing a memory he so very vividly
remembers as a 9 year old boy. He starts off by describing himself in 1914 living in Motton
Massachusetts. He mentions how small, and very rural the town was that he grew up in. The roads
weren t even paved. He also described how the town was before the skies were not cut into lanes and
sliced by overhead powerlines (King 406). He also talks about how his brother passed away from a
single bee sting, which was so surprising to him and his family because a simple sting took the

Lady Gaga Is Known For Making Pop Music

to unique sound, Lady Gaga is known for making pop music weird. Five albums and eight years later,
Lady Gaga continues to rock the entertainment industry not only with her excellence in music but

In 2008, Gaga had a become a pop music sensation when she released her first single Just Dance from
her The Fame album. The album went platinum, demonstrating the instant success Gaga received. Her
rise to fame is accurately described in Memory, Monsters, and Lady Gaga by Victor P. Corona. He
notes that Gaga has become the first recording artist in history to have at least four number one hits
from a debut album (725). Corona also mentions that Lady Gaga was followed by over seven million
people on Twitter and was 2010 s second most googled celebrity in the U.S (725). While Corona
acknowledges her instant stardom, Michael A. Peters in One the Edge of Theory: Lady Gaga,
Performance and Cultural Theory accurately describes how Lady Gaga uses her image to excel in the
industry. Peters argument suggests that Gaga is aware of her fame and now has the means at her
disposal to begin to personalize, individualize and customize her relationship to her mass audience
(33). He suggests that it is a calculated pursuit in order to construct her star text to politically engage
with them on a deeper level (33). Lady Gaga s music videos, fashion style, and performances may be
perceived as avant garde. But she embraces her provocative, and eccentric ways.
O Shaughnessey and Stadler define an artist s star image as the qualities, ideals, and values that a star
represents as a whole (430). For a while, for Lady Gaga this meant identifying as an

Shakespeare s Sonnets Of 14 Lines
Shakespeare s sonnets of 14 lines, are written in iambic pentameter, five metrical feet to a line, each
foot having one unstressed syllable followed by a stressed syllable, with three quatrains and rhymed
couplet scheme of abab cdcd efef gg. Often the beginning of the third quatrain marks the line in which
the mood turns, and the poet expresses a revelation or epiphany. Shakespeare in his unique way, wrote
Sonnet 99 with fifteen lines, Sonnet 126 has six couplets and two blank lines marked with italic
brackets, Sonnet 145 is written in iambic tetrameters, and in Sonnet 29 the normal rhyme scheme is
changed by repeating the b in quatrain one in quatrain three, where the f should be, differentiating
them from the true Shakespearean sonnet.
Shakespeare s Sonnets are in motion, with different patterns, which differ radically from his
contemporaries at the time. In fact, his sonnets have great emotional depth, complexity, and human
perception. He borrowed diction and rhythms of ordinary speech from religion, law, courtship,
diplomacy, astronomy, and everyday life, turning them into expressions of his own unique linguistic
strategy. William used his half untold story using Renaissance themes of love, time, mutability, the
conflict of body and soul, passion and reason (Sonnets of Shakespeare). Shakespeare s compositional
strategies gives his speaker depth as a character; emotionally his moods are conflicting and volatile,
his mind has many compartments of discourse, he is a

Analysis Of Black Swan And Shutter Island
Martin Scorsese and Darren Aronofsky are talented directors who have created many award winning
films that incorporate certain techniques used to enhance the audience s experience of the film, some
of their directorial techniques include symbolism, costume, lighting and dialogue. I have chosen
Scorsese s 2010 film Shutter Island along with Aronofsky s 2010 film Black Swan as each of these
films have scenes that incorporate the above mentioned techniques to portray the effects mental illness
has on a person s health and welfare. The scenes are each 8 minutes in length and run until the closing
credits begin. These techniques allow the audience to relate to the film by showing how it links to the
world we live in today where mental illnesses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Symbolism is shown predominantly with the use of a war between black and white in relation to the
war between the persona s Nina has in her mind. These symbols allow the audience to link to the
director s main purpose of showing the effects mental illness has on the people suffering and also
others that are involved closely in their lives. In both Shutter Island and Black Swan symbolism is
featured profoundly throughout which gives the audience the chance to look for the deeper meaning in
what they are viewing. The use of a number of different techniques such as costume and props
displays hidden meaning in the film to the viewers and how this is expressed could hit certain levels of
the psychological and emotional labyrinth that all of us have according to Scorsese. Symbolism in
these films helps the audience understand the effects of mental illness by the cues shown such as the
plaster on Teddy s forehead and the scratch on Nina s back, the more obscure cues given show that
Teddy is a figment of imagination in Andrews mind and becoming a real black swan is also a figment
of imagination in Nina s mind. Events that have happened in both Nina and Andrews past have taken
over, leading them on the path of psychological disintegration. The symbolism used to portray this in
both films is

Universal Health Care Coverage
Universal Health Care Coverage is the guarantee to every citizen of a certain country with health care
services. While some say it will benefit the people of the United States, others argue that it would be a
great disservice to the country. In the past, Progressives have tried modernization through health for
all, but differences such as anti communism, anti socialism, ideological differences, the
entrepreneurial character os America medicine and dependence has kept the people from making any
change. It is true that the constitution states that a man is entitled to his unalienable rights, however, it
does not specify that free healthcare is considered among those rights.

According to a study from Consumer Reports, the top financial problems for US households is paying
for health care. Universal health care would decrease costs and guarantee access to 95% of US
households as well. On the opposing view point to the issue, they look to the rise in taxes that would
be a direct effect to universal health care. What is saved in health care expenses is lost in taxes.
If the public had health care it is only logical that people would generally be more healthy. In the
United States, citizens are 33% less likely to have a regular doctor, 50% more likely to not obtain
needed medicines, and 25% more likely to have unmet health needs than citizens in countries with
universal health care. While this is a good reason to acquire universal health care as a country, less
optimistic people see it as another way for the government to ration medical services where they see
fit. People might be able to afford health care, but with controlled distribution and budgeting, one
might not get the needed health care anyways.
There are many clear pros and cons of universal health care taking root in America. President
Theodore Roosevelt believed that no country could be strong whore people were sick and poor. Yet,
how can they strive in a country

Analyzing The Protagonist In Voltaire s Candide
Voltaire wrote Candide as a response to the optimistic philosophy taking place in the mid seventy
century. In 1956 Leonard Bernstein produced a Broadway version of this text. After that, several more
version were produced until reaching the final edition played at the New York Philharmonic in 2005.
Voltaire s Candide targets the ¬¬¬¬¬philosophical beliefs of the period while Bernstain s play adjusts
the scenes to the context of the new audience for which is performed. For an audience watching
Candide in 2014, however, other adjustments are necessary. Voltaire s target in Candide is to criticize
the philosophical optimism of the era. Such optimism is expressed by Candide s mentor, the
philosopher Pangloss, who justifies the presence

Harriet Quimby flew solo across the English Channel. Many people did not believe that a woman
could take on such a dangerous flight. An aviator offered to fly across the English Channel wearing
Harriet s purple flying suit. He said that he could switch clothes with her when he reached France.
Harriet Quimby declined his offer because she was determined to accomplish her goal. They knew I
had never used the machine before and probably thought I would find some excuse at the last moment
to back out of the flight. This attitude made me more determined than ever to succeed (America s First
Lady of the Air). Harriet Quimby decided to fly the Blériot XI even though it didn t have an amazing
reputation. The Blériot XI was by all accounts the trickiest plane Blériot had yet designed, and
Quimby had never piloted the model, much less the particular plane Blériot had loaned her (America s

she had during the flight was a compass. She did not have a parachute, seatbelt, or navigation device

her flight. After facing all of these obstacles, Harriet Quimby safely crossed the English Channel and

Fear, Guilt, and Regret in Macbeth by William Shakespeare
In William Shakespeare s Macbeth the reader watches as Macbeth changes gradually as the play
endures. He are transforms from a loyal person with a loving and loyal disposition with other people,
into a tyrants who are willing to kill in order to keep himself on the throne. He is tormented with fear,
regret, and guilt. When someone does something they know is wrong it causes them to fall prey to
their own emotions. After Duncan s death you are able to see how the characters involved in the
murder almost instantly experience feelings of regret. There is a scene where Macbeth is in shock so
greatly after murdering Duncan, that he forgets to leave the murder weapon behind. When confronted
by Lady Macbeth(who says he needs to go return the weapons) he says, I ll go no more: / I am afraid
to think what I have done; / Look on t again I dare not ( 2.2 53 55). This allows us to see how Macbeth
is pained by what he has done. Macbeth also says he heard a voice say Glamis hath murdered sleep,
and therefore Cawdor shall sleep no more. Macbeth shall sleep no more. ( 2.2 46 48). When Macbeth
says this he is saying that he has not only murdered Duncan, but he has murdered sleep. He is saying
he won t be able to sleep after what he has just done because he will regret it forever and it will haunt
him. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth are interrupted by knocking on the door and as Macbeth and Lady
Macbeth walk away he says, Wake Duncan with thy knocking; I would though couldst. ( 2.2 78 79).

The And Caste Discrimination By Kancha Ilaiah s Why I Am...
All religious communities in India are afflicted by an unfortunate evil tendency of exclusion. A sad
trend of hatred has emerged in the battle against casteism and caste based discrimination. Kancha
Ilaiah s Why I am not a Hindu (the non fictional bestseller of 1996) has been constructed as an
expression of the voice of post Independence Dalitbahujan consciousness, which was an integral part
of their socio political movement. Born in a small South Indian Telangana village in the 1950s, his is
the voice of the harassed subaltern, which exposes rampant cultural contradictions and practices. He
talks about the marginalized and victimized identity, where they were not only neither included nor
respected, but also looked down upon and repelled. The battle against disturbing dehumanizing social
evils is manifested in the emergence of disparate groups having one thing in common deep hatred for
Hindus. He implores the upper stratas to read and understand what the Other (here, an un Hindu
Indian) has to say, for, he believes that those who refuse to listen to new questions and learn new
answers will perish and not prosper. The voice of the alienated existence of the subalterns on every
level of experience makes us question certain trends of action and thoughts inscribed in our
subconscious and evident in our consciousness. Though the book brims with undisguised and
unidirectional attacks and opinions, which the readers might find appallingly biased, yet his voice

Compare And Contrast Breaking Bad And In Cold Blood
A Comparative Analysis In Cold Blood versus Breaking Bad Truman Capotes In Cold Blood is a
novel based on a non fictional crime story of murder; the actual murder of a family in rural Kansas
during the middle part of the 20th century. Vince Gilligan is the creator of the television series
Breaking Bad , a 21st century production; which brought to the viewer, a fictional crime story which
is loosely based on various true to life characters: living, dead or just completely fabricated. The
protagonists were the fictional character Walter White of Breaking Bad , and non fictional Richard
Hickock of In Cold Blood . Each man led tragic lives in the literary sense, in that they faced
tremendous obstacles at some period in their lives, and they expressed a degree of catharsis before
death, despite the fact their motives to overcome adversity were completely opposite; one man s good,
and the other evil.

genre: isolationism, and a character flaw in the protagonist. The modern tragedy is thus redefined: in
modern tragedies, smaller men with smaller dreams act through impulse, rather than hubris

The Effects Of Injury Assessment On Athletes Participating
Soccer like other popular sports has a risk of injury for the athletes participating. As a part of the
sports medicine team it is crucial to be able to treat these injuries effectively and ultimately have the
athlete returning to play as soon as possible. Injuries to the lower extremities are the most common in
soccer. These injuries may be traumatic, such as a kick to the leg or a twist to the knee, or result from
overuse of a muscle, tendon, or bone (1). This information will be helpful when assessing an injury.
The three steps of injury assessment are, determine the type and extent of the injury, locate signs and
symptoms, and finally compare bilaterally to notice any deformities (2). Our injury assessment is
aided by the popular acronym H.O.P.S. Which stands for history, observation, palpation, and special
tests. History is crucial for diagnosing an injury and would usually be found out by asking questions
such as, what happened? , Has it happened before? . Asking this can locate any repetitive motions or
actions that have been causing this injury. Observation is looking for signs, which are observable
deformities such as a rash, swelling, or dislocation. Next is palpation, which is touching to look for
pain or unusual textures on the skin. Finally, special tests, these are used to rule in/rule out injuries
based on specific joint tests. One of the most important things for any sports medicine team to know is
the emergency actions plan for their facility. This is a

Sparta And Athens Comparison Essay
The poleis of Athens and Sparta both had similarities and differences to each other, because of this,
these poleis make excellent candidates to compare and contrast. For one thing, Athens and Sparta both
had starkly different governments, Athens had a government where Athenian land owning males could
voice their opinions, while Sparta had an oligarchy. Athens had one of the best navies for the time
period, while Sparta had one of the strongest land forces, the Spartiates. Also, Athens cared more for
luxury items than Sparta and Athens pursued knowledge instead of military power, unlike Sparta.
Although Sparta and Athens had many differences, they also had some similarities, such as how both
poleis had very strong armies. Athens and Sparta ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Sparta there was very little value placed on luxury items, until the fourth century BCE, when
aristocratic families became wealthy, and male children were taken at the age of seven to be trained as
warriors. The reason for this was because the main focus of life to Sparta was their military, which
allowed them to maintain control over the helots and maintain public order, and anything that did not
help the military was considered to not be very useful. While in Athens there was a heavy value placed
on luxury items and a high value on aristocratic ideals. This was because the main focus in Athens was
the pursuit of knowledge and prosperity. Many well known philosophers came from Athens, such as
Aristotle, Plato, and Socrates. In both of these poleis, the governments tried to prevent class
distinctions between civilians. Part of the reason Spartans did not have many luxuries was because
everyone in Sparta was considered equal in status and the government wanted to discourage the
development of social and class distinctions. While in Athens, it showed that the commoners were
displeased that the aristocrats had more luxuries than they did so they ended up rebelling, which in
turn caused Athenian democracy to become the government so all Athenian land owning males had a

3rd Grade Bilingual Education Curriculum
Over the years data has become a major part of school starting in pre kindergarten. Evaluations
happen every day in school. The only thing that make a different is when and what type. Is the
evaluation given after instruction daily or just after a unit? Next, what happens with the data from the

baffling how you can teach a whole lesson and only half if that many of your students understood. The
concerning point is that you re not only responsible for the half that understand. You are also

Reflection On Human Sexuality
This class was, potentially, the most enlightening out of any of our classes this semester. I tend to
think about myself as incredibly open minded and well rounded when it comes to understanding the
different aspects of human sexuality, but this class showed me how little I truly know. Listening to this
class s guest speakers illuminated me to the depth of the BDSM community that I had previously been
blind to. While I had known some about BDSM from simply a fetish/paraphilia/technical standpoint, I
wasn t aware that it also denoted such a rich community. I suppose that I could have expected that
BDSM would have it s own community, but, since it is outside of my realm of sexuality, I was
simplistic in the way that I understood BDSM as only a fetish. My simplistic thinking is made worse
when I consider the fact that one of my closest friends was a professional submissive for a few years
prior to coming to Reno, but I never asked many questions because I felt that it would be too personal
or would show potential holes in my knowledge. This is why I am so glad that we had guest speakers
for this topic in class. When I was reading this chapter in the Lehmiller book, I found it to be
informative on a baseline knowledge level, but it definitely lost a lot of the depth and complexity of
the fetishes and paraphilia themselves, and particularly the people that practice these aspects of
sexuality. Having a guest speaker come in allows for the other students, as well as myself, to

Biological Effects Of Grounding On The Body
Grounding has shown to affect inflammation, chronic pain, cardiovascular function, and other
biological processes (Chevalier, Sinatra, Oshman Delany, 2013). It was hypothesized that those who
electrically ground themselves with the natural world around them would be in an elevated, happier
mood. Findings from the research conducted did not support this hypothesis. Results were not
consistent with the previous research conducted on the effects of grounding on the physical body;
however, research on the psychological effects of grounding the body has not been conducted on a
large scale. Because of the previous research on the biological effects of grounding, there is a
theoretical argument to suggest that it could positively affect mood,

Black Arts Movement Essay
The Black Arts Movement
The amazing era of the Black Arts Movement developed the concept of an influential and artistic
blackness that created controversial but significant organizations such as the Black Panther Party. The
Black Arts Movement called for an explicit connection between art and politics (Smith). This
movement created the most prevalent era in black art history by taking stereotypes and racism and
turning it into artistic value.
This connection between black art and politics was first made clear in a great essay written by Larry
Neal in the summer of 1968. This essay illustrated the Black Arts Movement s manifesto or plan. Neal
wrote: The Black Arts Movement is radically opposed to any concept of the artist that ... Show more

As Black Power began to grow, it received both strong disapproval from whites and several African
American organizations such as the NAACP. They probably disapproved of them because Black
Power followers harshly bashed whites as well as a black community who watched and waited for
changed instead of making it. The Black Panther Party became the largest Black organization
advocating Black Power (Gladney). Scholars of African American art and politics still see the idea of
Black Power as a strong effect on the consciousness of Black America today, though it had died out in
mid 1970s (Smith). Black Power writers largely redefined and reshaped the expectations of Black
literature to their own standards much alike modern day rappers. The ability of a particular group of
artists to be able to define their own work is crucial to the development of an aesthetic (Gladney). One
of the most influential writers of this era was Amiri Baraka. Baraka s plays, poetry, essays,
screenplays, and short fiction express his fury at a narrow minded society encouraging racism.
Gladney describes that Baraka, also known as, LeRoi Jones was born in Newark, NJ, in 1934. He
attended Rutgers University and served in the military for three years before settling in Greenwich
Village at the heart of the creative scene. Baraka opened the Black Arts Repertory Theatre/School in
1964. The school became one of the most influential theaters within the Black Arts Movement and

The Dangers of Drink Spiking
Drink spiking is rapidly becoming a serious issue in todays society, with almost 20% of adolescents
having had their drink tampered with, without their approval (Qld Gov, 2013). The effects and
ramifications associated with this crime are substantial. Therefore, it should become a priority to help
identify these culprits, and introduce solutions to prevent this from happening. Such solutions might
include drink covering strategies, safety suggestions and identification of tampered drinks. These
strategies will assist in the promotion of this problem, and the prevention of the spiking of drinks.
Drink spiking has become somewhat a recurring problem within our society today. The incidence of
drink spiking can lead to serious repercussions and ruin the lives of both the victim and bystander.
Drink spiking occurs when a person deliberately adds alcohol or drugs to a drink without the consent
of the drinker. This means that the individual could become incapacitated unexpectedly. Drinks are
spiked for a number of reasons including amusement or to facilitate sexual assault, rape and theft. The
side affects include feeling drunk or drowsy, mental confusion, hallucination, memory loss, nausea or
vomiting, seizures, loss of consciousness and a severe hangover when you have had little or no
alcohol to drink (H.Grimly, 2005). It should be a major priority to prevent this occurrence for the
benefit of our current and future generations. Drink spiking can happen anywhere, at any time.

Analysis Of Billy Joel s Hit Song We Didn t Start The...
In Billy Joel s hit song, We Didn t Start The Fire , he sings about the major headlines and influences
on his generation. If you compare these allusions to the headlines today, you ll see that our society s
issues and interests haven t changed much. Political scandals, the race to space, pop culture, and best
selling novels; all crucial to the shaping of our society. Even though the 60 s and today s world are
decades apart, there are many similarities between society then and society now that suggest the more
things change, the more they stay the same.

needed to be, due to the fact it is much easier to hack into her private server than it is to hack into the

this information, Americans have to decide for themselves whether or not she actually did something
wrong, and whether or not we can trust her as the next president of the United States. No mater who

One of the most important steps mankind has ever made is space exploration. On February 20th, 1962,
John Glenn became the first person to orbit the earth. This was a major redemption for the U.S, since
just a year before Yuri Gagarin from Russia became the first man to go to space. Glenn s
accomplishment threw America ahead in the famous Space Race with the U.S.S.R. Recently, NASA
announced that they plan on having a manned mission to Mars by 2035. However, there s a lot of
competition. Quite a few nonprofit and for profit organizations believe they can get people to Mars

The Awakening Feminist Analysis
The influence of culture within society may lead to detrimental outcomes. Oppression is not the
intention of society, though through harsh political and social standards one will feel compelled to
make brash decisions. Kate Chopin, author of The Awakening, provides feminist criticism of
traditional motherhood, marriage, and conformity. Edna Pontellier, the female protagonist within the
novel, grows to desire independence and control over her life. Throughout the story, Edna epitomizes
a feminist attitude by defying the regressive standards of the Creole culture, as exemplified through
Chopin s use of literary elements including symbol, setting, and character development. Edna
gradually sheds her fictitious self in attempt to become an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A bird with a broken wing was beating the air above, reeling, fluttering, circling, disabled down, down
to the water (115). Chopin uses the birds to symbolize Edna, as her wings were not strong enough to
support her. The expectations of society compelled Edna to take her own life. A life without
individuality or authenticity was one Edna decided was not worth living.
Edna s peers view her actions as thoughtless and childish because she frequently makes impulsive
decisions and later regrets them. As such, Edna often shares the symbolic nature of a child. Edna s
behavior after an argument with Léonce exemplifies her thoughtlessness. She stopped, taking off her
wedding ring, and flung it upon the carpet (52). Edna is unhappy with her marriage because she never
loved Leonce in the first place. Unwed women held lesser merit and stability than married women did.
Edna ultimately wed Leonce both to initially abide by society s expectations and to upset her father.
Edna, now desiring another man, despises the Catholic restriction to annul. Later, when Edna confides
in Adele, she admits, I would give up the unessential; I would give my money, I would give my life
for my children; but I wouldn t give myself (47). Not only does Edna consider her life to be inessential
due to her social standing, she would not sacrifice the more important lively aspects because she
herself still feels childish greed. Edna s struggle for

Psychoanalytic Theory Of Erik Erikson
Christina Gogh EECE 310 W Professor Rhodd 11/10/17 Erick Erickson Erik Erikson is known for his
psychoanalytic theory of psychosocial development comprising eight stages from infancy to
adulthood. Psychologist Erik Erikson, is a major contributor to developmental psychology, who
proposed a comprehensive theory of the ways that individuals develop their identity, a sense of who
they are, and society s influence on that development. Erikson stated that people go through crisis at
each stage of their lives. The stages each had a developmental task to be mastered. As an individual
resolved these various crises an individual would have a better harmony with their social environment
that they live in. If an individual could not successfully resolve a crisis, they would be out of step , and
the individual would have a greater difficulty in their dealing with a crisis in the future. Erikson did
however recognize that an individual can develop through a stage negatively and still go on with their
life. Erikson stated that each of the psychological stages have a basic conflict and important event
leading to growth. The theory was developed from his hundreds of clinical observations in children.
Identity is central to Erikson s thinking. Erikson coined the term identity crisis . Erikson lived such a
crisis in his own life. At a young age Erikson found out his father was really his stepfather. Erik
Homberger Erikson was born on June 15, 1902 in Frankfurt, Germany to his mother

When I was just fifth teen years old, I sang for a Columbia football game. It was just before I would
perform for the first time at Madison Square Garden, and I needed to gain some Performer

arriving to the Columbia Football field with loads of anxiety, and butterflies in my stomach and feet. I
made it safely to the gate and said, Hi, I am today s anthem singer, with a slight smile trying to control
my nerves. What I received in return will be something I will never forget as long as I live. It was the
compassionate smile of someone who worked at Columbia, instantly calming and securing me without

Pompey the Great
Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus, more commonly known as Pompey the Great, was many things. He was
part of the first triumvirate with Caesar and Crassus which ended with Crassus and Pompey s death.
He got rid of the mediterranean pirates in three months without major bloodshed. Delivering 20,000
captives to Rome, sparing most of them giving them jobs in farming. He also acquired the nickname
Pompey the Great in Sulla s second civil war as his general. In 77 B.C.E he was sent to be pro consul
to assist with the struggle against Sertorius in Spain. Pompey the Great was part of the first

Domitius had brought his army upon Pompey but their was a ravine between them. The ravine was
hard to cross, and at the time there was a heavy storm pouring down rain and blowing big gusts of
wind. Domitius was ready to retreat but Pompey was waiting for this moment. With his troops he
quickly advanced and crossed the abyss, the enemy was in a state of great confusion and disorder and
not all of them were present. The rain had made it hard to see and the battle was a flurry, many were
fighting against their own army, Pompey himself narrowly escaped death. Pompey s troops won the
battle and his troops gave him the title imperator meaning commander or a victorious general. Pompy
said he could not accept the title with some of the enemy camp still standing, and if they wish to make
him worthy of honor they must demolish the enemy camp. So they assaulted the adversary and
thereafter Domitius perished at the hands of Pompey.
Taking advantage of his good fortune, he decided to invade Numidia in Africa. He traveled throughout
the country conquering all whom he came across, and revived the fear in barbarians of Roman power,
which had dissipated almost entirely. Legend says that it took him only forty days to overthrow his
enemies, subdue Africa, and settle the affairs of African kings. It was after this when he returned

Effective Use Of Sound In Citizen Kane
Citizen Kane may not be in color, but it once you get to the end of the movie you really see just how
black an white the movie really is. The amount of mystery that builds through out the movie is
amazing. At the end of the movie both the way they reveal the mystery and what the mysterious thing
is, is just stunning. That s why I rate this movie five out of five stars.
I give it such a high rating because is uses the color of the film amazingly and well as sound, then the
acting in this movie is very well done, and the story is great and how the director reveals the mystery
and how no one in the movie figures out what rosebud. Last but not least is the way sound is used in

  • 2. North Korean Political Policies On North Korea Introduction Beginning in the early 1940 s, Korea has been a split nation; the great divide that happened in initially in 1945 was just the beginning of what would become one of the world s most infamous splits of a country. Radically different in political regime and agenda, these countries provide for a very complex case study of border conflict. Due to its extremely repressive regime, North Korea stands as one of the worst places to call home in the world, while South Korea is incredibly more liberal. Despite the inescapable amounts of propaganda imposed on the citizens of North Korea, the current generations of North Koreans hold ties to South Korea through separated family, making South Korea a very attractive but forbidden land. While South Korea continues to center its foreign policy on loosening the strict rule of the North Korean government, North Korea remains stubborn and the struggle remains in tow with the stark differentiation between ideologies politically, militarily, and culturally. History of Korea In the mid 10th century, the Silla regime was overtaken by the Goryea regime in what is today Korea when it was one land, and one people. The name Korea was directly derived from the pronunciation of the Goryea. (Shelley, 500). The first separation of the territory of Korea came after World War II ended, and the Soviets occupied the Northern portion of Korea, while the Americans occupied the Southern portion. This separation was never actually intended to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Youth International Party Research Paper The Youth International party was an American activism group, born out of the anti war movement, concerned with civil rights. The Youth International Party has also been referred to as Yippies, who are now known for their theatrical style of collective action during the sixties. The group mainly consisted of hippies, counterculture revolutionist, political workers, and activists. The Yippies harbored collective action by using elements of performance to demonstrate their cause. In 1967 to 1968, Yippies constructed multiple street demonstrations in protest of the United States military involvement in the Vietnam War. The group was founded by Abbie Hoffman and Jerry Rubin, two men that became a symbol for radical activism. The group was founded by the two activist in 1968. Yippies goal for these performances were, protesting Johnson s Vietnam policy, argued for an end to the draft, and made the case for a different kind of American society, one based not on capitalism but cooperation. (Shawyer 2008: 14) Yippies strategies were to use street theatre to create an experience to draw attention to America and communicate that the average American did not have any control over the political processes that go on. • 4. Enlightenment In Hermann Hesse s Siddhartha In Hermann Hesse s Siddhartha, it is crucial to understand that the attainment of spiritual enlightenment is not confined to a single journey or path of life. Because the path to enlightenment is unique to the experience of the individual, it is not something that can be taught by the spiritually awakened. Hesse demonstrates this idea through the parting ways of Siddhartha and Govinda, two friends who have shared their entire lives with each other. After meaningful encounters with several other characters, Siddhartha meets Govinda once again in a time of need. The separation and reunion of the two emphasizes that companionship, a motif exhibited throughout the novel, has a profound effect on both Govinda and Siddhartha s path to enlightenment. The relationship between Siddhartha and Govinda is illustrated as that of a leader and a follower, or a mentor and a pupil. While Siddhartha is admired by all ... Siddhartha tires of others teachings and wishes to learn through experience Govinda is the exact opposite, a person who appreciates learning from others and assumes that following the Buddha s teachings is the final step of his personal journey. Despite Siddhartha s contrasting views, he is supportive of Govinda s decision: Govinda, my friend, you have taken the step, you have chosen your path...Often I have thought: will Govinda ever take a step without me, from his own conviction? Comparison of Two Historical Art Periods Comparison of Two Historical Art Periods: Middle Ages (Gothic) and Renaissance Architecture Christina Plunkett Western Governor s University IWT1 Humanities Task 1 Gothic style came about in the middle of the twelfth century. It was named after the Goths that controlled France during that time. It was developed as a result of Christian ideals. Christian leaders wanted big, tall, ornate churches to represent their strong faith. Later it was also used for non religious buildings such as castles, walls, bridges, and gates. Citizens of the time period wanted striking, rich looking churches to represent their success and wealth, also leading to Gothic style. Because of a declining population, other aspects of life were affected negatively such as agriculture and politics. The Renaissance, however, saw a turn around for Europe. There were new beginnings in the government and the life of it s citizens. There was a major culture shift from the 14th to the 16th century. In the Middle Ages, many people were suffering from disease and starvation. It was not a stable time for Europe. The Hundred Year s War compounded their problems. Europeans lost faith in the church resulting in a decline of religious faiths. There were a large amount of Popes going through the Catholic Church during that time known as the Great Schism. The Schism lasted for forty years and resulted from financial mismanagement in the church. The Renaissance was an opportunity to reform European society. Humanism became a common philosophy. Individualism and education were now important. Life did not revolve around religion and the church had less power. More people saw themselves as a greater being than God. The influence of Renaissance Architecture on the rest of the world was significant. There are many government buildings in North American that are modeled after the classical, symmetrical lines of the Renaissance period. • 8. Dark Side Leadership And How They Can Get Into Power Dark side leadership creates problems for organisations and the individual, the most common form of this being derailment. Smart (1999) estimated that the cost of a failed executive to be $2.7 million. This essay is going to focus on what dark side leadership is and how they can get into power when the consequences can be so great. The drawbacks of such research will be discussed and alternative explanations explored. Before concluding that an inclusive approach must be adopted. The majority of research into how destructive leaders can get into power has focussed on the individual themselves. Kenny and Zaccaro (1983) investigated leader emergence and found that 48 82% of the variance in leadership emergence was due to personality. The area of dark side leadership lacks coherence around definitions and causations (Slattery, 2009). The majority of this essay will focus on personality explaining dark side leadership emergence. Firstly, it is important to look at leadership emergence with regards to dark side traits as proposed by Hogan and Hogan (1997). Dark side traits are defined as traits that are undesirable, that are present in excess and not traits in which they are lacking (Hogan Hogan, 2001). They identified 11 subclinical traits that can be present in dark side leaders, e.g. narcissism, by using the Hogan Development Survey. They are termed subclinical because they are perceived to be less prominent than clinical traits but still measure the degree to which a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Throughout this story there is a great deal of imagery. Imagery is used help bring the story to life using descriptive elements to grasp the mental image that Stephen King is trying to convey. Imagery however isn t the only element in the story to help draw in the reader. The use of themes and connections with symbolism also help tie in the whole story together and to help certainly draw in the reader. The first thing we notice as we read is the use of fascinating detail. We come to know as a reader that the main character Gary, a nine year old boy who comes face to face with a man in a black suit. In 2008, Gaga had a become a pop music sensation when she released her first single Just Dance from her The Fame album. The album went platinum, demonstrating the instant success Gaga received. Her rise to fame is accurately described in Memory, Monsters, and Lady Gaga by Victor P. Corona. He notes that Gaga has become the first recording artist in history to have at least four number one hits from a debut album (725). Corona also mentions that Lady Gaga was followed by over seven million people on Twitter and was 2010 s second most googled celebrity in the U.S (725). While Corona acknowledges her instant stardom, Michael A. Peters in One the Edge of Theory: Lady Gaga, Performance and Cultural Theory accurately describes how Lady Gaga uses her image to excel in the industry. Peters argument suggests that Gaga is aware of her fame and now has the means at her disposal to begin to personalize, individualize and customize her relationship to her mass audience (33). He suggests that it is a calculated pursuit in order to construct her star text to politically engage with them on a deeper level (33). Lady Gaga s music videos, fashion style, and performances may be perceived as avant garde. But she embraces her provocative, and eccentric ways. Often the beginning of the third quatrain marks the line in which the mood turns, and the poet expresses a revelation or epiphany. Shakespeare in his unique way, wrote Sonnet 99 with fifteen lines, Sonnet 126 has six couplets and two blank lines marked with italic brackets, Sonnet 145 is written in iambic tetrameters, and in Sonnet 29 the normal rhyme scheme is changed by repeating the b in quatrain one in quatrain three, where the f should be, differentiating them from the true Shakespearean sonnet. Shakespeare s Sonnets are in motion, with different patterns, which differ radically from his contemporaries at the time. In fact, his sonnets have great emotional depth, complexity, and human perception. He borrowed diction and rhythms of ordinary speech from religion, law, courtship, diplomacy, astronomy, and everyday life, turning them into expressions of his own unique linguistic strategy. William used his half untold story using Renaissance themes of love, time, mutability, the conflict of body and soul, passion and reason (Sonnets of Shakespeare). Analysis Of Black Swan And Shutter Island Martin Scorsese and Darren Aronofsky are talented directors who have created many award winning films that incorporate certain techniques used to enhance the audience s experience of the film, some of their directorial techniques include symbolism, costume, lighting and dialogue. I have chosen Scorsese s 2010 film Shutter Island along with Aronofsky s 2010 film Black Swan as each of these films have scenes that incorporate the above mentioned techniques to portray the effects mental illness has on a person s health and welfare. These symbols allow the audience to link to the director s main purpose of showing the effects mental illness has on the people suffering and also others that are involved closely in their lives. In both Shutter Island and Black Swan symbolism is featured profoundly throughout which gives the audience the chance to look for the deeper meaning in what they are viewing. The use of a number of different techniques such as costume and props displays hidden meaning in the film to the viewers and how this is expressed could hit certain levels of the psychological and emotional labyrinth that all of us have according to Scorsese. Symbolism in these films helps the audience understand the effects of mental illness by the cues shown such as the plaster on Teddy s forehead and the scratch on Nina s back, the more obscure cues given show that Teddy is a figment of imagination in Andrews mind and becoming a real black swan is also a figment of imagination in Nina s mind. According to a study from Consumer Reports, the top financial problems for US households is paying for health care. Universal health care would decrease costs and guarantee access to 95% of US households as well. On the opposing view point to the issue, they look to the rise in taxes that would be a direct effect to universal health care. What is saved in health care expenses is lost in taxes. If the public had health care it is only logical that people would generally be more healthy. In the United States, citizens are 33% less likely to have a regular doctor, 50% more likely to not obtain needed medicines, and 25% more likely to have unmet health needs than citizens in countries with universal health care. While this is a good reason to acquire universal health care as a country, less optimistic people see it as another way for the government to ration medical services where they see fit. People might be able to afford health care, but with controlled distribution and budgeting, one might not get the needed health care anyways. An aviator offered to fly across the English Channel wearing Harriet s purple flying suit. He said that he could switch clothes with her when he reached France. Harriet Quimby declined his offer because she was determined to accomplish her goal. They knew I had never used the machine before and probably thought I would find some excuse at the last moment to back out of the flight. This attitude made me more determined than ever to succeed (America s First Lady of the Air). Harriet Quimby decided to fly the Blériot XI even though it didn t have an amazing reputation. The Blériot XI was by all accounts the trickiest plane Blériot had yet designed, and Quimby had never piloted the model, much less the particular plane Blériot had loaned her (America s First Lady of the Air). Harriet did not have any experience in flying over large bodies of water and all she had during the flight was a compass. She did not have a parachute, seatbelt, or navigation device on the plane. Another obstacle that Harriet had to overcome was the dangerous weather on the day of her flight. After facing all of these obstacles, Harriet Quimby safely crossed the English Channel and landed in France. (Encyclopedia of World Biography; America s First Lady of the ... • 17. Fear, Guilt, and Regret in Macbeth by William Shakespeare In William Shakespeare s Macbeth the reader watches as Macbeth changes gradually as the play endures. He are transforms from a loyal person with a loving and loyal disposition with other people, into a tyrants who are willing to kill in order to keep himself on the throne. He is tormented with fear, regret, and guilt. When someone does something they know is wrong it causes them to fall prey to their own emotions. After Duncan s death you are able to see how the characters involved in the murder almost instantly experience feelings of regret. There is a scene where Macbeth is in shock so greatly after murdering Duncan, that he forgets to leave the murder weapon behind. When confronted by Lady Macbeth(who says he needs to go return the weapons) he says, I ll go no more: / I am afraid to think what I have done; / Look on t again I dare not ( 2.2 53 55). This allows us to see how Macbeth is pained by what he has done. Macbeth also says he heard a voice say Glamis hath murdered sleep, and therefore Cawdor shall sleep no more. Macbeth shall sleep no more. ( 2.2 46 48). When Macbeth says this he is saying that he has not only murdered Duncan, but he has murdered sleep. He is saying he won t be able to sleep after what he has just done because he will regret it forever and it will haunt him. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth are interrupted by knocking on the door and as Macbeth and Lady Macbeth walk away he says, Wake Duncan with thy knocking; I would though couldst. ( 2.2 78 79). ... A sad trend of hatred has emerged in the battle against casteism and caste based discrimination. Kancha Ilaiah s Why I am not a Hindu (the non fictional bestseller of 1996) has been constructed as an expression of the voice of post Independence Dalitbahujan consciousness, which was an integral part of their socio political movement. Born in a small South Indian Telangana village in the 1950s, his is the voice of the harassed subaltern, which exposes rampant cultural contradictions and practices. He talks about the marginalized and victimized identity, where they were not only neither included nor respected, but also looked down upon and repelled. The battle against disturbing dehumanizing social evils is manifested in the emergence of disparate groups having one thing in common deep hatred for Hindus. He implores the upper stratas to read and understand what the Other (here, an un Hindu Indian) has to say, for, he believes that those who refuse to listen to new questions and learn new answers will perish and not prosper. The voice of the alienated existence of the subalterns on every level of experience makes us question certain trends of action and thoughts inscribed in our subconscious and evident in our consciousness. As a part of the sports medicine team it is crucial to be able to treat these injuries effectively and ultimately have the athlete returning to play as soon as possible. Injuries to the lower extremities are the most common in soccer. These injuries may be traumatic, such as a kick to the leg or a twist to the knee, or result from overuse of a muscle, tendon, or bone (1). This information will be helpful when assessing an injury. The three steps of injury assessment are, determine the type and extent of the injury, locate signs and symptoms, and finally compare bilaterally to notice any deformities (2). Our injury assessment is aided by the popular acronym H.O.P.S. Which stands for history, observation, palpation, and special tests. History is crucial for diagnosing an injury and would usually be found out by asking questions such as, what happened? , Has it happened before? . Asking this can locate any repetitive motions or actions that have been causing this injury. Observation is looking for signs, which are observable deformities such as a rash, swelling, or dislocation. Next is palpation, which is touching to look for pain or unusual textures on the skin. Finally, special tests, these are used to rule in/rule out injuries based on specific joint tests. For one thing, Athens and Sparta both had starkly different governments, Athens had a government where Athenian land owning males could voice their opinions, while Sparta had an oligarchy. Athens had one of the best navies for the time period, while Sparta had one of the strongest land forces, the Spartiates. In Sparta there was very little value placed on luxury items, until the fourth century BCE, when aristocratic families became wealthy, and male children were taken at the age of seven to be trained as warriors. The reason for this was because the main focus of life to Sparta was their military, which allowed them to maintain control over the helots and maintain public order, and anything that did not help the military was considered to not be very useful. While in Athens there was a heavy value placed on luxury items and a high value on aristocratic ideals. This was because the main focus in Athens was the pursuit of knowledge and prosperity. Many well known philosophers came from Athens, such as Aristotle, Plato, and Socrates. In both of these poleis, the governments tried to prevent class distinctions between civilians. Part of the reason Spartans did not have many luxuries was because everyone in Sparta was considered equal in status and the government wanted to discourage the development of social and class distinctions. In the novel The Human Stain by Phillip Roth, Coleman Silk s actions show that he is losing his identity. In all, he was trying to find a new identity in search for power. As results of his life decisions, Coleman Silk lost his original identity that would dwell on him forever. It all started when professor Coleman Silk was lecturing in class; and he called two absent students spooks . As there were still two names that failed to elicit a response by the fifth week into the semester, Coleman, in the sixth week, opened the session by asking, Does anyone know these people? Do they exist or are they spooks? (Roth 6). Resulting in Coleman getting verbally attacked by the board, for making a racist phrase spooks . • 40. Reflection On Human Sexuality This class was, potentially, the most enlightening out of any of our classes this semester. I tend to think about myself as incredibly open minded and well rounded when it comes to understanding the different aspects of human sexuality, but this class showed me how little I truly know. Listening to this class s guest speakers illuminated me to the depth of the BDSM community that I had previously been blind to. While I had known some about BDSM from simply a fetish/paraphilia/technical standpoint, I wasn t aware that it also denoted such a rich community. I suppose that I could have expected that BDSM would have it s own community, but, since it is outside of my realm of sexuality, I was simplistic in the way that I understood BDSM as only a fetish. My simplistic thinking is made worse when I consider the fact that one of my closest friends was a professional submissive for a few years prior to coming to Reno, but I never asked many questions because I felt that it would be too personal or would show potential holes in my knowledge. This is why I am so glad that we had guest speakers for this topic in class. When I was reading this chapter in the Lehmiller book, I found it to be informative on a baseline knowledge level, but it definitely lost a lot of the depth and complexity of the fetishes and paraphilia themselves, and particularly the people that practice these aspects of sexuality. Having a guest speaker come in allows for the other students, as well as myself, to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As Black Power began to grow, it received both strong disapproval from whites and several African American organizations such as the NAACP. They probably disapproved of them because Black Power followers harshly bashed whites as well as a black community who watched and waited for changed instead of making it. The Black Panther Party became the largest Black organization advocating Black Power (Gladney). Scholars of African American art and politics still see the idea of Black Power as a strong effect on the consciousness of Black America today, though it had died out in mid 1970s (Smith). Black Power writers largely redefined and reshaped the expectations of Black literature to their own standards much alike modern day rappers. • 45. The Dangers of Drink Spiking Drink spiking is rapidly becoming a serious issue in todays society, with almost 20% of adolescents having had their drink tampered with, without their approval (Qld Gov, 2013). The effects and ramifications associated with this crime are substantial. Therefore, it should become a priority to help identify these culprits, and introduce solutions to prevent this from happening. Such solutions might include drink covering strategies, safety suggestions and identification of tampered drinks. These strategies will assist in the promotion of this problem, and the prevention of the spiking of drinks. Drink spiking has become somewhat a recurring problem within our society today. The incidence of drink spiking can lead to serious repercussions and ruin the lives of both the victim and bystander. Drink spiking occurs when a person deliberately adds alcohol or drugs to a drink without the consent of the drinker. This means that the individual could become incapacitated unexpectedly. Drinks are spiked for a number of reasons including amusement or to facilitate sexual assault, rape and theft. The side affects include feeling drunk or drowsy, mental confusion, hallucination, memory loss, nausea or vomiting, seizures, loss of consciousness and a severe hangover when you have had little or no alcohol to drink (H.Grimly, 2005). It should be a major priority to prevent this occurrence for the benefit of our current and future generations. Drink spiking can happen anywhere, at any time. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Edna Pontellier, the female protagonist within the novel, grows to desire independence and control over her life. A life without individuality or authenticity was one Edna decided was not worth living. Edna s peers view her actions as thoughtless and childish because she frequently makes impulsive decisions and later regrets them. As such, Edna often shares the symbolic nature of a child. Edna s behavior after an argument with Léonce exemplifies her thoughtlessness. She stopped, taking off her wedding ring, and flung it upon the carpet (52). • 48. Psychoanalytic Theory Of Erik Erikson Christina Gogh EECE 310 W Professor Rhodd 11/10/17 Erick Erickson Erik Erikson is known for his psychoanalytic theory of psychosocial development comprising eight stages from infancy to adulthood. Psychologist Erik Erikson, is a major contributor to developmental psychology, who proposed a comprehensive theory of the ways that individuals develop their identity, a sense of who they are, and society s influence on that development. Erikson stated that people go through crisis at each stage of their lives. The stages each had a developmental task to be mastered. As an individual resolved these various crises an individual would have a better harmony with their social environment that they live in. If an individual could not successfully resolve a crisis, they would be out of step , and the individual would have a greater difficulty in their dealing with a crisis in the future. Erikson did however recognize that an individual can develop through a stage negatively and still go on with their life. Erikson stated that each of the psychological stages have a basic conflict and important event leading to growth. The theory was developed from his hundreds of clinical observations in children. Identity is central to Erikson s thinking. Erikson coined the term identity crisis . Erikson lived such a crisis in his own life.
