Consumption Overpopulation and Its Effects on the Environment
Consumption Overpopulation
Think about a sign that says EARTH Max Capacity 10 billion. Based on what they have the human
population plans out parties. They have a lack of space and resources. Anyone who would plan these
parties would have to take in account for the amount of people that would have to scrunch in with
each other, and how many people would not have enough food to last the party. Which basically
makes it so the guests are down to a certain number. Our planet is a close similarity to the already
mentioned party. Just like how a large room can only offer a certain amount of resources. Despite this
idea, the concepts of overpopulation, and resource degradation still are at large and are a risk.
The concept of the word ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ultimately the behaviorisms of the commons amount to overusing the resources and misdistribution of
all the resources in the environment (Burke 2001). The very same Burke argues that the lack of
awareness about the topic of resource degradation and over consumption proves that Hardin s theory
is drastically flawed. The very first idea is the fatalistic belief program that block the actual risk
perception. Humans can not harm the Resource Base (p.449). The second premise is that the
complicity of the concerns regarding the environment blocks the individual awareness of risk. He
Concludes that a call for education and consensus building (P.472) in raising the environmental risk of
awareness.
Comparison and Contrast
Environmental
Environmental risk perceptions also allowing loss aversion, unrealistic optimistic attitude, and
heuristic assist in understanding the way humans go towards their resource consumption problem.
Praterelli and Chiarelli go to resource overuse, and the degradation of the various resources. Also not
to mention the overpopulation of consumption from the loss aversion standpoint. The idea of
technology becomes a medium when it comes to avoiding the immediate losses although having the
long term or evolutionary factorials. On the flip side, Burke approaches the environment risk factors
from two risk theories; unrealistic happiness and heuristic sort of availability. The

What Have You Learned About The Act Of Reading And...
1. What have you learned about the act of reading and interpreting a text/story/ How have you grown
as a reader and critical thinker? Provide examples from both the text and the class.
In previous literature courses at Westfield State University, I never fully engaged with a text before.
We would be assigned a reading and would briefly discuss it in class. That text would later be seen on
a midterm or final. This class has challenged me to grow as a reader and a critical thinker. By coming
into class and breaking down each text, I took more from the story. I was getting the deeper meaning
of each text. By breaking down each reading as a class, you hear the story being told out loud. By
reading the story out loud, you hear each story ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When our class looked Hieronymus Boschses painting of The Garden of Earthly Delights, they shared
their perspective of what they believed was happening. Their perspectives made me look at the
painting in a number of different ways. They have also educated me on topics that I was unaware of.
For example, we had a few classmates who have read previous stories that involved the characters of
Antigone. They were able to break down the previous stories which helped our class understand the
background of Antigone. They offered context to help break down the characters and their role, the
setting/ time period, and how the connection of other characters play into the storyline.
2. Drawing from multiple characters/ people/ verses in the texts we read, explain how one s self
development or lack thereof effected the people around them. Provide examples from both the text and
the class .
At the beginning of the course, we read the epic of Gilgamesh, an ancient Mesoptamian story. During
the course of the story there is an obvious character development within Gilgamesh. Gilgamesh is the
king of Uruk, who at first, was as a very arrogant individual with a large ego. This city is his
possession, he struts through it, arrogant, his head raised high, trampling its citizens like a wild bull...
The people suffer from his tyranny, the people cry out (Gilgamesh, 73). The people or Uruk look to
the gods for assistance. Gilgamesh would take a bride s virginity

Much Ado About Nothing Misogyny
Much Ado about Nothing (c. 1598) is often considered as Shakespeare s happiest comedy , as love is
found by the unlikely and good triumphs over the evil trickery of the plays antagonist Don John.
However despite the play s merriment, there is an aspect of melancholia. Arguably Much Ado about
Nothing is a warning of the potential tragedy that can come from miscommunication and deception.
The play has two main plots. One centers around Hero and Claudio s relationship, and highlights
youthful romantic love. This can be evidenced by Shakespeare s use of blank verse, this gives the
words spoken by Hero and Claudio a sense of romance due to the excessive positive imagery and
poetic lyricism, for example: Thronging soft and delicate desires . ... Show more content on

Their relationship draws parallels with another Shakespearean play, perhaps the most tragic of them
all; Romeo and Juliet (c.1597). Hero and Claudio similarly to Romeo and Juliet, met and became
engaged in a matter of days, upon a conflict in the story the principal female stages her death.
However, unlike the well known tragedy, Hero and Claudio resolve their issues and we can presume
lived happily ever after. The likeness of both plays presents the idea that perhaps Much Ado About
Nothing is more tragic than expected. Therefore this would agree with the statement that at times
Shakespearean comedy veers uncomfortably close to tragedy . The wedding scene in Much Ado is one
of the most blatantly tragic scenes in any of his comedies and this is a plot device added to emphasize
the humour and positivity of the ending. For example in Act IV scene I of Much Ado About Nothing,
though this scene is the climactic and tragic peak of the story, it does not label the play as solely
tragic. The contrast of tragedy shows the importance of the comedy Shakespeare commonly added
comic relief to his Tragedies. So, when Claudio rejects Hero in so vile a fashion using phrases like
rotten orange and she hath known the heat of a luxurious bed the play takes on a tragic element and
yet, Shakespeare has introduced this dark moment in a play to

What Is My Personal Experience Essay
Everyone has been through a personal experience, whether it has changed their lives for better or
worse. These experiences can be eclectic events such as going out to explore the world or even
devastating events such as tragic accidents. My personal experience occurred a year ago during the
summer when I took a trip to visit San Francisco, California with my family. This trip to San
Francisco was a thrilling adventure due to the city being very beautiful and breathtaking. During my
visit to the city I was able to take part in the beaches, the Golden Gate Bridge, and Six Flags.
To begin with, the beaches near San Francisco are stunning. California has nice weather during the
summer to attend beaches because it is not too hot or chilly outside. ... Show more content on

My family and I were able to cross the famous bridge a few times in the car as we traveled a bit
around California. The view from the bridge was beautiful during the day and as well at night. It was
nice during the day to see the sun sparkling on the water as boats sailed by, but appealing during
nightfall because of the bright lights on the bridge. Also, the city lights around it brought out the
overall awe of the bridge. During one of our passing on the bridge, we were able to make a quick stop
at the top of the hill and take a few family pictures together with the bridge. My brother would tease
me every time anyone brings up our visit to the Golden Gate Bridge because I was afraid to stand near
the edge of the mountain to take our family photos since I imagined I was going to slip and fall.
Furthermore, as we traveled through the bridge I had noticed telephone posts on either side of the
bridge. These telephones were for the suicidal people who thought it was time to end their lives. The
telephones were used to connect those who were suicidal to a counselor to help talk them out of
committing such a tragedy. They may have helped saved plenty lives. It has been known by many that
the Golden Gate Bridge is one of the many bridges that countless of people tend to go to in order to

Effects Of Discrimination And Minority Stress
Discrimination and Minority Stress As stated earlier previous studies have reported decreased
resilience among LGBA+ populations, however, it is important to note that identifying, as LGBA+
does not inherently cause the distress that is the source of poorer levels of mental health and
resilience. Instead, it is a reaction the previously stated statistics representing shocking levels of
exposure to discrimination, which also take the form of microaggressions. Micro aggressions are
aimed at minority groups and are a form of assault that can exist in a variety of forms either verbal or
nonverbal, as well as be intentional or unintentional on behalf of the perpetrator. Microaggressions
have previously been linked to increased mental health difficulties in the form of increased anxiety in
African American University Students (Smith, Allen, Danley, 2007). As individuals worldwide of
multiple ethnicities, ages, religiosity, and able bodiedness may identify as LGBA+, taking into
account, this intersectionality and how it impacts on resilience is necessary to our understanding of
LGBA+ populations. An individual who identifies both as a sexual minority and as an ethnic minority
may have the effects of such discrimination and micro aggressions compounded resulting in overall
poorer resilience as the stressors experienced an increase (Balsam, Molina, Beadnell, Simoni, Walters,
2011). The Intersectionality between ethnicity and sexual identity also has a clear impact on social

Ethiopian Commodity Exchange
Executive summary
Agricultural market in Ethiopian has been long plagued by high transaction costs and non integrated
market information. Small scale farmers came to the market with little information.
Ethiopian commodity exchange, the newly established organization, is providing a market place where
buyer and sellers can come together to trade and be assured of quality, delivery and payment.
Currently, ECX has 496 members 346 are suppliers and 150 sellers from the coffee industry. ECX
started operation of trading coffee in November 2008.

This research will contribute and benefit business organizations by making awareness and by
identifying problems to give some possible solutions.
1.2 Statement of the problem
Agriculture has always been the backbone of Ethiopia s economy. Yet, lifting millions of Ethiopians
out of poverty requires transformation from centuries old subsistence agriculture to dynamic,
technology driven market oriented production. This can only happen if the market itself functions in
such a way as to serve the needs of all concerned stakeholder of the market.
Ethiopian coffee marketing system is also on age old tradition. To date, coffee markets have been
characterized by high cost and high risks of transacting, forcing much of Ethiopia into global isolation.
Coffee trading is done on the basis of auction system which backed by poor technology and clearing
and payment system which drives up the processing and marketing cost and these leads to high
consumer price this forcing coffee exporter to be powerless into global market. In addition to his small
scale farmers come to the market with little information and are at the mercy of coffee supplier or
collector in the nearest and only market they know, unable to negotiate better prices or reduces their
market risks.
Doing business in a standard and acceptable way is one of the competitive advantages in this global
market, especially for

Examining The Functional Connectivity Of A Whole Brain Atlas
Background: The brain is often considered the most complex organ in the human body. It is also the
most difficult to understand, given the vast array of different functions spread throughout its mass and
the interconnected functionality of its regions that makes subdividing it based on form or function a
difficult task. Craddock, et al. (2012), in the article examined, attempt to produce a method for further
examining the functional connectivity (FC) of the regions of the brain and subdivide them based on
spatial positioning and function. Understanding FC in the brain can significantly improve
understanding of many brain functions and the effect of outside stimulus of various parts of the brain.
This examination will only be able to take place by creating an accurate whole brain atlas. This
creation of a whole brain atlas, or a map of the brain separating it into regions of interest (ROI) based
positioning and/or function, has typically been done via fMRI analysis of the brain combined with an
anatomically based mapping procedure. This study seeks to use fMRI technology combined with an
algorithm to create voxel clusters or ROI s that optimize both spatial coherence and homogeneity in
regards to the FC of the individual ROIs that can closely match of the results of a voxel wise analysis,
while improving on computation power required and interpretability.
Clinical Significance: The usefulness of this technology and methodology can be found in both

Why College Athletes Shouldn t Be Paid
Why Not to Pay College Athletes After numerous scandals over the past several years of college
athletes receiving improper benefits, the question has come up whether or not college athletes should
be paid or not. College sports are a growing industry, and we have seen money destroy organizations,
teams, and players in this industry. The determination and motivation of college athletes supersedes
professional athletes by their will to win; therefore, college athletes should not be paid. The law that
prevents college athletes from receiving money is called Title IX. Title IX was passed in 1972, and
states that all money should go equally for all sports and no team should be excluded. Originally this
law was created to preserve equal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Likewise, almost all NCAA championships lose money. However, overall NCAA revenue, primarily
derived from the Association s media agreements and the popularity of the Division I Men s
Basketball Championship, helps 400,000 student athletes at more than 1,000 member institutions learn
and compete in 23 sports and 88 national championships (NCAA 2). Most colleges typically lose
money on most of their sporting teams, and with the income from the few sport teams they are able to
provide for other students. Since a lot of colleges are losing money in the industry, they wouldn t be
able to pay the athletes if they don t generate revenue. This would cause students to go to colleges that
make money knowing they would be getting paid, compared to a college that doesn t have financial
stability to pay athletes. College would not be college anymore. The universities would become
franchises and inevitably turn into a smaller version of the NFL. The law Title IX makes it mandatory
for each team to provide the same amount of benefits to each student. From the incomes to these few
sports, the less popular sports at schools would be cut because they do not have enough revenue
coming in to pay the players. ( Student athletes generate billions of dollars for universities and private
companies while earning nothing for themselves. ) This is indisputably untrue. Student athletes earn
free tuition, which

Napoleon Bonaparte Liberator Essay
You must accommodate yourselves to them. (Bonaparte, p.136) What is it about him that makes him a
legend? Just like many figures who succeeds the outcome of wars, they know themselves as much as
they know their enemies , which in this case is what Al Jabarti sees in Bonaparte while Napoleon
Bonaparte attempts to make certain it would not have to be that way. Why out of all nations did
Bonaparte go after Egypt? For the reason that the real adversary of France, was Britain, and Egypt was
the foremost passageway for Britain s valued colony: India. In the journey, what Bonaparte found was
yet another opponent: Mamelukes. This would be the chance to display the Egyptian their liberator. At
least, that is what Napoleon Bonaparte envisioned himself to be. To begin, a liberator is an individual
who frees a person or place from the confines of imprisonment. To explain, the loudest action to
emphasize their beliefs is by driving away the people who arise around the supposed actual settlers
that Bonaparte intermingles with. For instance, Bonaparte was intrigued in the sheik and its owner,
and when a little troop of Arabs on horseback gets to Bonaparte s established headquarters, there were
skirmishes that drove them out. It is what drives Bonaparte. Bonaparte could no longer repress his
rage. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

It s Complicated By Danah Boyd
In her book, It s Complicated, Danah Boyd expresses her views on modern day social media and the
modern day teenager s reliability with it. The book is comprised of 8 enlightening categories: identity,
privacy, addiction, danger, bullying, inequality, literacy, and searching for a public of their own.
Throughout the book, Boyd provides data, true stories, and factual conversations to help support her
main claim: social media has taken over our youth.
She conducts numerous interviews with teens of all races, ages, and genders. In the passage, Boyd
describes an interview she had with an 18 year old, Skyler, who explained to her mother that If you re

The Controversial Topic Of Video Game Addiction
The controversial topic of video game addiction is what I have decided to focus my multi genre

uselessness and detrimental qualities of playing video games, and I am going to explore some healthy

Surprisingly, there are only a few hundred sustainable certification programs in the world. Many of
them are in the food industry. They often focus on sustainable production of food and social justice for
employees or businesses in developing nations that trade with developed nations, such as the coffee

Sustainable golf courses are the future of golf
In the past, golf has had a rather poor reputation with regards to its environmental track record, and
deservedly so. The Audubon golf program promises to change that. It promises to not simply remedy
the negative reputation the industry has, but to create a positive environmental record that will get golf
perceived in a whole new light.
It will accomplish that not by some kind of spin doctoring or PR stunt. It will do it by actually making
golf courses more environmentally sound businesses. The world is currently at a critical juncture. Two
paths lie before us. One path promises that we keep harming the environment until it will not longer
support more than 7 billion people. The other path is one where we learn how to take care of the
environment so that it can continue to take care of us.
The only sane choice is the second one. Golf courses are businesses that are uniquely situated to help
support wildlife by creating wildlife corridors as part of their appeal. No other for profit, suburban
business has the same kind of potential to fill this important

What Is Okonkwo s Role In Igbo Society
Since the civilization of the African continent the natives were seen as uncivilized and wild. Achebe
throughout Things Fall Apart works to counter these very stereotypes. Set in an Ibo village in Nigeria
during the start of European civilization, the book focuses on the main character Okonkwo and his
prideful life to give insight on the true nature of Ibo culture. Achebe uses the abstract concept of the
patriarchal society and importance of conversation to humanize the Ibo people. Seen in the interaction
between Okonkwo and his wives, this matter illustrates the influential role of the patriarch in Ibo
society. Speaking of his role in society Okonkwo gives the advice that, if [a man] was unable to rule
his women...he was not really a man (Achebe 53). Based off of Okonkwo s advice we know the men
in Ibo society hold the power over their families and if they can not control their family that they are
not really a man. Okonkwo demonstrates the power he holds over his wife and children many times,
often going too far. For instance, during the Week of Peace Okonkwo beats his wife Ojiugo when she
went out to a friend s house without notice. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Because the Ibo people care for how their conversations are carried out, one would guess that they are

able to have even more intricate conversations then we do today. When the Europeans arrive in
Umuofia they do not quite understand the Ibo people. The District Commissioner even complains of,
[the Ibo people s] love of superfluous words (Achebe 204). The words that Ibo people use in
conversation is even baffling to the Europeans. This can make one say that in some ways the Ibo

Importance Of Fair Trade Movement
Trade is the act of buying and selling goods and services. This idea of trade became popular globally,
starting the fair trade movement. According to FINE in 2001, fair trade is defined as a trading
partnership, based on dialogue, transparency, and respect that seeks greater equity in international
trade. It contributes to sustainable development by offering better trading conditions to, and securing
the rights of, marginalized producers and workers especially in the South (Moore, Wilkinson, Redfern
Snedker). The fair trade movement originated in the late nineteenth century. It began as charitable
organizations and political solidarity trading with poor communities in the 1940s until it expanded to
become a movement in the 1960s 1970s. The movement was officially created when the leading
traders and importers joined forces from multiple different countries. The movement was created to to
import goods for trade. Fair trade organizations (backed by consumers) are engaged actively in
supporting producers, awareness raising and in campaigning for changes in the rules and practice of
conventional international trade (Moore 73 74). The importance of the fair trade movement can be
explained by the foundation of the movement, the goals of the movement, the obstacles of the
movement, current organizations who follow the movement, and the overall movement itself. To
begin, the fair trade movement can be understood by its organizations being divided into four groups

A Courageous Mother At Gallipoli
On April 6th 2014 in the New Zealand Herald a story titled A courageous mother at Gallipoli was
published. The story is about Mary and Doug Hill, whose names were drawn out of a ballot to attend
the prestigious Anzac Day ceremony in Gallipoli to mark 100 years since the Gallipoli landing. The
article was also about Catherine O Donnell, Doug Hill s great grandmother, who was the first mother
of a New Zealand soldier to travel to Gallipoli to visit her son s grave, who had been killed during
battle. Along with the article is three secondary images and one primary image which is on the first
page of the two page article. In this essay I will use the techniques of semiotics to analyse the images
and the article. Semiotics is described as a system used for analysing how all sign systems work (O
Shaughnessy, Stadler 2012, p. 131). In regards to the article and the images of A courageous mother at
Gallipoli the semiotic analysis will look at the representation of photojournalism, the historic and
social values and our cultural identity, the denotative and connotative meanings of the image, and the
signifier and signs.
Representation and the critique of ideology apply to photojournalism because a photo does not exist in
isolation. This means that a photo always has more meaning than what is shown. A camera only
captures what is in front of the lens, not around or behind it, therefore there is always more to the story
than one image can portray. A photo also has different

Fire Suppression System
Fire suppression systems are popular in commercial buildings, but they aren t quite as common in the
home. This does not mean that it s not worth looking into installing a system in your home, however.
These are some of the main reasons why this can be a great investment.
1. Keep Your Family Safe
Seven people die in the United States on a daily basis due to home fires, and even more people are
injured. These are pretty frightening statistics that might make you worry about your family.
Protecting your children, your spouse, yourself and anyone else who might live in your home is
probably one of the most important things to you, and you can help greatly decrease the chances of
someone you love being harmed in a house fire by installing a fire suppression system. For many
people, this is enough of a reason to install one of these systems in the home.
2. Protect Your Home
After protecting your family, protecting your home is probably another major priority in your life.

As a homeowner, one thing that you might not enjoy is paying your homeowners insurance. If you re

knows that there is less of a risk of your home being destroyed by a fire, it will know that your home

As you can see, if you have not thought about installing a fire suppression system in your home, it
might be something that you will want to consider. There are various types of systems out there,
including those that use water or those that use chemicals to suppress fires if they happen. If you work

what with rambling in the woods, sketching, boating, fishing, bathing, music, and books, we should
have passed the time pleasantly enough, but for the fearful intelligence which reached us every
morning from the populous city. Not a day elapsed which did not bring us news of the decease of
some acquaintance. Then as the fatality increased, we learned to expect daily the loss of some friend.
At length we trembled at the approach of every messenger. The very air from the South seemed to us
redolent with death. (Poe 1) Cholera is an intestinal infection that can claim its victim s life within

Totalitarian Government In 1984, Big Brother Is Watching You
In 1984, Big Brother Is Watching You. Someone couldn t take two steps without bumping into a poster
of a stern looking man (known as Big Brother) seeming to stare into the soul of the viewer. Big
Brother acts as a Godlike figure to the citizens of Oceania, a super nation constantly at war with the
other two super nations. The government of Oceania, the Party, keeps citizens in a vice like grip
through constant surveillance and laws placed on every aspect of human existence. The only loyalty
allowed is to the Party. The Party controls the past, the present, and the future through its control over
anything and everything. The government set up in 1984 directly reflects that of a totalitarian
government. Totalitarianism as it exists in George Orwell s 1984 exhibits key features which bare
striking resemblance to modern governments. The Party in 1984 uses Emmanuel Goldstein as a face
for the people of Oceania to project their hate onto (in order to unite the people in hate.) The Two
Minutes Hate is a ritual performed by the members of the Outer Party, as pictures are displaced for the
people to scream and curse at. Its purpose is to strengthen the Party s position by giving the people
someone to be mad at (that isn t Big Brother.) If the people feel a lack of control over their own lives,
they re able to channel that into hate of the evil Emmanuel Goldstein and East and Eurasia (instead of
being mad at Big Brother.) During one of the rituals, Winston explains that although

This was a period of Athenian political hegemony, economic growth and cultural flourishing formerly
known as the Golden Age of Athens or The Age of Pericles. The period began in 480 BC when an
Athenian led coalition of city states, known as the Delian League, defeated the Persians at Salamis. As
the fifth century wore on, what started as an alliance of independent city states gradually became an
Athenian empire. Eventually, Athens abandoned the pretense of parity among its allies and relocated
the Delian League treasury from Delos to Athens, where it funded the building of the
AthenianAcropolis. With its enemies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The magistrates
The magistrates were people who occupied a public post and formed the administration of the
Athenian state. They were submitted to rigorous public control. The magistrates were chosen by lot,
using fava beans. Black and white beans were put in a box and depending on which color the person
drew out they obtained the post or not. This was a way of eliminating the personal influence of rich
people and possible intrigues and use of favors. There were only two categories of posts not chosen by
lot, but by election in the Popular Assembly. These were strategos, or general, and magistrate of
finance. It was generally supposed that significant qualities were needed to exercise each of those two
offices. A magistrate s post did not last more than a year, including that of the strategoi and in this
sense the continued selection of Pericles year after year was an exception. At the end of every year, a
magistrate would have to give an account of his administration and use of public finances.
The most honored posts were the ancient archontes, or archons in English. In previous ages they had

My Mother
At the request of this prompt (A), I have concluded that the person whom I truly admire, whom I am
most inspired as well as most influenced by is ultimately my Mother. I came to this conclusion as my
Mother represents an immense purpose, that strength and beauty can arise from struggles, that one in
hard times can arise to succeed. My Mother s life story symbolizes one of many morals and life
learning themes that it was her struggle and hardships that gave her beauty. My mother had
experienced a lot of difficulties in the process of growing up, either due to her polish or American
experience. Yet my mother s story exclaims that if she hadn t experienced a life in vain, then she
would not have been the person she is today. My Mother had shown me that hardships and struggles
ultimately make you whom you are, as I must face and look past turbulence and obstacles, which
block me from the light and success. I, Giovanni Dama, believe that my mother is whom I truly
admire above many. I in firmly intend to follow my mother s ideals and her attitude of strength and
glory, to never give up in any scenario, no matter what challenges I must reach and be greater than.
My mother, Anna Dama, had experienced a path of hardships as my mother came to America for hope
and opportunity. My mother had migrated to the united states of America as her father and siblings
have already done so. Yet, my had came here tan age of 20 years old, making the relocation to
America an ultimate challenge.

Research Paper On St Teresa Of Avila
Saint Teresa of Avila, also known as Saint Teresa of Jesus, a Spanish nun and author, was born in 1515
in Spain. She lost her mother at fourteen and, against her father s wishes, entered the Carmelite
Convent at the age of twenty. Her 1565 work, Life of the Mother Teresa of Jesus, is one of her many
written works. St. Teresa restored and established numerous convents and monasteries. The first
convent she has established was the convent of Saint Joseph. She was the first women to be honored
by the church. (Encyclopædia Britannica) In chapter thirty six of her autobiography, St. Teresa writes
that she has arrived at the site of the convent of Saint Joseph. She received approval to start the
convent of Saint Joseph in 1562. The building in which the convent was established, belonged to her

the new convent. She expressed that she feels like her spirit is being torn apart, but then she
remembers that she gave herself to serve the Lord and that she is ready to endure any suffering for
him. After some self talk, her doubts, the ones that came from the devil, went away. She had no regrets

Evils of Money and Industrialization in the Film, The Wages of Fear The messages or themes of The
Wages of Fear are fairly easy to understand. Among them all, the strongest of these messages is that,
simply, money and greed can corrupt and even kill. This message is clear in several aspects of the
film. For example, the plot of the story is that several men take on an incredibly dangerous task,
knowing they could die, because the completion of the task could bring them a large sum of money.
Of course, the incentive behind their choice can be attributed to the local American oil company that is
offering the money, which controls the local economy in the first place (the implication is that these
men would not have to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One could argue that the characters own lust for money and material objects caused them to take the
job transporting the nitroglycerine, and it is their own fault for what happened. After all, when the
American oil company went in search of people to hire for the task, they made it very clear what the
dangers were, and were entirely honest with the drivers about the possible consequences that they
could face. If this argument is to hold fast then, the reasons that the four men, Mario, Bimba, Luigi,
and Jo, accepted the job must be explored more closely. Was it only the lust for money that caused
them to put themselves in danger, or did they have other motives? To answer this question, the first
two characters that should be looked at are Jo and Mario. These are the two characters who undergo
the largest character development throughout the film, and who have the most in depth reasons for
putting themselves in danger. First, there is Jo. He is the older career criminal/gangster/ tough guy. His
life revolves around portraying an image of being couth, and projecting his superior ego on other
people. Mario is the younger tough guy, still trying to make a reputation for himself, who believes that
by hooking up with Jo he can gain some respect from the other people around him. For

penicillin to keep the object free from infection(Allaby). This was a breakthrough for Salk because he
copied their procedure and used viruses from the spinal cords of polio patients and grew them in
another object to test on(Allaby). Jonas Silk has always been involved with medical science
throughout his entire life. He attends and graduates in surgery from the City College of New York. In
1938 when Salk works with Thomas Francis he was introduced to finding the influenza

the influenza vaccine Salk had the opportunity to become the head of the virus research laboratory at

the idea of racism through displays of moral courage. One key person who challenged racism with
moral courage was Jackie Robinson. In their publication, U.S. History in Context, Mother Jones

racism while excelling on the playing field was Jackie Robinson. Jackie clearly knew that he was
fighting racism however he never knew it was to create integrated sports. Jackie displayed moral
courage because Jackie changed the world to make all races allowed to player sports, destroying the
idea of racism in many states. Robinson did many things, however his major accomplishment was
making the idea of racism cease in many places across the world.
Clearly Jackie Robinson displayed moral courage by fighting racism and playing Major League

In the 1940s and 1950s cable television had very poor reception until community antennas were built
on mountain tops or high points. In the late 1950s distant signals began to change the focus of cable s
role from one of transmitting local broadcast signals to one of providing new programming choices.
By 1962 there were around 850,000 subscribers and well known corporate names began investing in
the business (NCTA, 2010). In the 70s the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) started to
enact regulations that limited the cable operators programming. This is the time that the business
aspect of cable television became a part of American history. When the cable companies can regulate
what people are able to get for free or at a lower rate, they can charge more for other syndicated
programming. From 1984 to 1992 the cable industry forked over more than 15 billion dollars on the

The Theory Of Induction And Induction
Introduction
Induction machines are classified into two which includes motors and generators. The basic principles
of these motors can be applied and hence develop equations describing its behaviour. The most
common motors include squirrel cage, wound rotor ranging from few horsepower to thousands as the
case may be. Squirrel Cage Rotor consist of a bare copper, slightly longer than the rotor, while a
wound rotor has a 3 phase windings, and are evenly distributed in the slots, usually connected in 3
wye. The resistors are mainly used during the start up period under normal running conditions.

Induction Motor tolerate a level of unbalance. The variable speed drive are also affected as a result of
the voltage unbalance which consist of three phase rectifier system. Unbalanced voltage is caused by
mismatch of reactive power between generating and industrial stations, hence it can be classified BOV
(Balanced Overvoltage), phase voltages greater than rated voltage. BUV (Balanced Under voltage),
phase voltages lesser than rated voltage. UBOV (Unbalanced Overvoltage), phase voltage not equal to
each other, therefore the positive sequence component is greater than rated voltage and finally UBUV
(Unbalanced Under voltage), voltages are not equal, and hence the positive sequence component is
lesser

~~Forces of Nature: Research In today s day and age where sexuality and the need to be thin has
become prominent in both fashion and the advertising market, it is important to create product for
everyone in mind. The purpose of Forces of Nature s research is to determine if there is a market in
producing clothing that is made with the everyday girl in mind. We do know that the teen market is a
force all on its own, raking in over $1.76 billion dollars in the year 2001. As more and more children
and teens are taking on the responsibility of choosing their clothes, shoes and cosmetics, they are
looking for items that suit them in a more sophisticated manner at a price that fits their budget
(Henson, 2002). The company needs to make sure that we are not producing items that fit an adult
lifestyle more than a teen one. While there is a tendency to view them as little adults it does not work
this way in their mind. They have their own likes and dislikes and definitely do not want a product
that their mother thinks is cool. Just like with the cosmetic industry, forces of nature wants to give
teenage girls styles the fit their personalities and their pocketbook (Marchie, 2001). One way of doing
this is to go into the school setting, as FIM did for Brylcreem s hair gel. They brought the product to
the children and were able to gather first hand information on what the student s liked and disliked

of being physically and emotionally abusive towards his family and pets. The unspoken family secret
that was finally told out of rage by the grandfather, that the women Ted had known at the being of his
life as his sister was indeed his mother was unveiled. Eleanor moved Ted to Tacoma, Washington
where she married Johnnie Bundy, and the couple had five other children and raised their children in
normal, loving and caring working class society. Now known as Theodore Ted Bundy, at just the mere
age of three, Bundy already developed a fascination to knives and machetes. Many close relatives to

The Social Security Act ( Ssa ) Of President Franklin D....
Debates over Social Security have been ongoing since its inception in 1935 until today. The trend
seems to be toward an increasing percentage of the American public, across party and demographic
lines, in favor of strengthening Social Security funding, and a willingness to pay more to preserve and
even improve benefits. However, what is not clear is whether Americans favor privatization of Social
Security because of fears that the Social Security Trust Fund is living on borrowed time.
The Social Security Act (SSA) of 1935 was drafted during the Great Depression as part of President
Franklin D. Roosevelt s New Deal. The SSA was an attempt to limit what were seen as dangers in the
American life, including old age, poverty, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 2003, Congress added a prescription drug benefit to Medicare (Edwards 431, 540). Since the Social
Security Act was signed into law, many politicians have advocated for privatizing Social Security,
even though Americans are in favor of Social Security and wish to strengthen the program.
The American public strongly supports Social Security, across party and demographic lines. A January
2013, National Academy of Social Insurance (NASI) study, Strengthening Social Security: What Do
Americans Want?, found that Americans overwhelmingly support Social Security and are willing to
pay more to preserve and improve benefits. With more than 59 million or 18% of Americans receiving
Social Security benefits, Americans recognize Social Security as a critical program. A large majority
of Americans say they do not mind paying Social Security taxes because of the stability and security
the benefits provide. These findings hold true across party lines, those polled included 87% of
Democrats, 72% of Republicans, and 81% of Independents. 73% of Americans are also willing to pay
for Social Security because they value it for themselves and their families. 85% of Americans say
Social Security is more important than ever to ensure that the elderly and disabled have dependable
income. These views cut across age and income lines: those agreeing include 81% Generation X and

The Heart Of The Blake Poem Analysis
Blake uses rhetorical questions asked by the narrator while Shelley has Victor expect immediate
answers to his questions. Blake has the narrator utilize rhetorical questions to prove that the godlike
figure does not require concrete answers, but prefers to live in awe and wonderment. On the contrary,
Victor s desire for knowledge and need for answers exemplifies that of a god, eventually leading him
and his creation to lead a miserable life due to Victor attempting to assume a godlike position, and
therefore, defying Romanticism. Throughout his poem, the narrator asks thirteen questions. The topic
of the questions do not center around the narrator himself, but about the Tyger and the creator. With
Did he smile his work to see? (Blake l. 19) and Did he who made the Lamb make thee? (Blake l. 20),
the speaker shows genuine curiosity and respect for the creator. Similarly, the speaker also inquires
about the Tyger by stating What the hand, dare seize the fire? (Blake l. 8), Could twist the sinews of
thy heart? (Blake l. 6), and What dread hand? what dread feet? (Blake l. 12). Consistent with this
curiosity, questioning also appears in the last line at the beginning and ending stanza. Having the
similar questions Could frame thy fearful symmetry? (Blake l. 4) and Dare frame thy fearful
symmetry? (Blake l. 24) introduce and conclude the poem, the narrator is portrayed as invested in
others than himself. Thus, the narrator is portrayed as a godlike figure due to

First Generation College Students
Coming from a smaller town where a lot of families do not have the money to send themselves or
even their children to college was tough, I was always worried about what was going to happen after
high school was over. Applying for financial aid and signing up for classes without having a family
member who has done it before is very difficult, the student don t know what classes to take or how
much money to take out for loans, as a first generation college student myself it has been hard to do all
the paperwork for college. A first generation college student can be very stressed like all college
students but for first generation students they have no one that has gone through the same thing and
that could help them get through it. Financial issues are going to be stressful for every college student,
but for first generation students it can get extremely difficult seen as they do not know that much
about applying for financial aid. Some students can get scholarships that help to pay for their college,
though they do not know how to apply for those scholarships sometimes.Students who are first
generation do not get the advice of their parents on college, just like how they do not know how to
sign up for financial aid and other resources that are useful. Going to college as a first generation
college student is a hard experience to go through, students whose parents did not go to college have a
disadvantage because they do not know how to adjust well to living at college.

Ephedrine Synthesis
Hemant et al. [20] reported that combination of preloading ephedrine is an effective prophylaxis
against spinal hypotension and provides hemodynamic stability when compared to the use of
ephedrine or preloading alone.
Although , ephedrine was considered as the drug of choice as a vasopressor in obstetrics it not take the
superiority. [21 23] It was reported that the administration of ephedrine increases the blood pressure of
the mother by its beta adrenergic action , so preserving uterine and placental blood flow, while other
vasopressors which have a pure alpha agonist were associated with a decrease in this blood flow.[7]
However, previous studies observed that ephedrine has a similar efficacy as other vasopressor and
causes fetal acidosis.[24] As regard to ephedrine group, this study observed hypotension in 37.9% of

Therefore, in our study, we used a bolus followed by continuous infusion to maintain good control of
SBP with ephedrine probably to attempt increasing maternal blood pressure before onset of spinal
block induced hypotension. The recommended dose for IV ephedrine infusion is between 0.5 mg/min
to 5mg/min.[26] We selected a lower infusion dose (1.5 mg/min), after a small dose bolus (6 mg), as
our target was to keep blood pressure at baseline. We found that with this regime ephedrine had a
limited effect in maintaining blood pressure without evidence of fetal acidosis as there was a
significant decrease in SBP after induction up to 14min in E group when compared all values with the
baseline value but still higher than L and C groups. This result differ from the result of other authors
[6,25,29] who used 2.5 ml/min of ephedrine as an infusion after 5mg bolus dose. They reported that
with this dose, ephedrine was effective in maintaining blood pressure without evidence of fetal

  • 2. Consumption Overpopulation and Its Effects on the Environment Consumption Overpopulation Think about a sign that says EARTH Max Capacity 10 billion. Based on what they have the human population plans out parties. They have a lack of space and resources. Anyone who would plan these parties would have to take in account for the amount of people that would have to scrunch in with each other, and how many people would not have enough food to last the party. Which basically makes it so the guests are down to a certain number. Our planet is a close similarity to the already mentioned party. Just like how a large room can only offer a certain amount of resources. Despite this idea, the concepts of overpopulation, and resource degradation still are at large and are a risk. The concept of the word ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ultimately the behaviorisms of the commons amount to overusing the resources and misdistribution of all the resources in the environment (Burke 2001). The very same Burke argues that the lack of awareness about the topic of resource degradation and over consumption proves that Hardin s theory is drastically flawed. The very first idea is the fatalistic belief program that block the actual risk perception. Humans can not harm the Resource Base (p.449). The second premise is that the complicity of the concerns regarding the environment blocks the individual awareness of risk. He Concludes that a call for education and consensus building (P.472) in raising the environmental risk of awareness. Praterelli and Chiarelli go to resource overuse, and the degradation of the various resources. Also not to mention the overpopulation of consumption from the loss aversion standpoint. Provide examples from both the text and the class. In previous literature courses at Westfield State University, I never fully engaged with a text before. We would be assigned a reading and would briefly discuss it in class. That text would later be seen on a midterm or final. This class has challenged me to grow as a reader and a critical thinker. When our class looked Hieronymus Boschses painting of The Garden of Earthly Delights, they shared their perspective of what they believed was happening. Their perspectives made me look at the painting in a number of different ways. They have also educated me on topics that I was unaware of. For example, we had a few classmates who have read previous stories that involved the characters of Antigone. They were able to break down the previous stories which helped our class understand the background of Antigone. They offered context to help break down the characters and their role, the setting/ time period, and how the connection of other characters play into the storyline. 2. Drawing from multiple characters/ people/ verses in the texts we read, explain how one s self development or lack thereof effected the people around them. Provide examples from both the text and the class . At the beginning of the course, we read the epic of Gilgamesh, an ancient Mesoptamian story. During the course of the story there is an obvious character development within Gilgamesh. Gilgamesh is the king of Uruk, who at first, was as a very arrogant individual with a large ego. This city is his possession, he struts through it, arrogant, his head raised high, trampling its citizens like a wild bull... The people suffer from his tyranny, the people cry out (Gilgamesh, 73). • 4. Much Ado About Nothing Misogyny Much Ado about Nothing (c. 1598) is often considered as Shakespeare s happiest comedy , as love is found by the unlikely and good triumphs over the evil trickery of the plays antagonist Don John. However despite the play s merriment, there is an aspect of melancholia. Arguably Much Ado about Nothing is a warning of the potential tragedy that can come from miscommunication and deception. The play has two main plots. One centers around Hero and Claudio s relationship, and highlights youthful romantic love. This can be evidenced by Shakespeare s use of blank verse, this gives the words spoken by Hero and Claudio a sense of romance due to the excessive positive imagery and poetic lyricism, for example: Thronging soft and delicate desires . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Their relationship draws parallels with another Shakespearean play, perhaps the most tragic of them all; Romeo and Juliet (c.1597). Hero and Claudio similarly to Romeo and Juliet, met and became engaged in a matter of days, upon a conflict in the story the principal female stages her death. However, unlike the well known tragedy, Hero and Claudio resolve their issues and we can presume lived happily ever after. The likeness of both plays presents the idea that perhaps Much Ado About Nothing is more tragic than expected. Therefore this would agree with the statement that at times Shakespearean comedy veers uncomfortably close to tragedy . The wedding scene in Much Ado is one of the most blatantly tragic scenes in any of his comedies and this is a plot device added to emphasize the humour and positivity of the ending. For example in Act IV scene I of Much Ado About Nothing, though this scene is the climactic and tragic peak of the story, it does not label the play as solely tragic. The contrast of tragedy shows the importance of the comedy Shakespeare commonly added comic relief to his Tragedies. So, when Claudio rejects Hero in so vile a fashion using phrases like rotten orange and she hath known the heat of a luxurious bed the play takes on a tragic element and yet, Shakespeare has introduced this dark moment in a play to ... • 6. Effects Of Discrimination And Minority Stress Discrimination and Minority Stress As stated earlier previous studies have reported decreased resilience among LGBA+ populations, however, it is important to note that identifying, as LGBA+ does not inherently cause the distress that is the source of poorer levels of mental health and resilience. Instead, it is a reaction the previously stated statistics representing shocking levels of exposure to discrimination, which also take the form of microaggressions. Micro aggressions are aimed at minority groups and are a form of assault that can exist in a variety of forms either verbal or nonverbal, as well as be intentional or unintentional on behalf of the perpetrator. Microaggressions have previously been linked to increased mental health difficulties in the form of increased anxiety in African American University Students (Smith, Allen, Danley, 2007). As individuals worldwide of multiple ethnicities, ages, religiosity, and able bodiedness may identify as LGBA+, taking into account, this intersectionality and how it impacts on resilience is necessary to our understanding of LGBA+ populations. An individual who identifies both as a sexual minority and as an ethnic minority may have the effects of such discrimination and micro aggressions compounded resulting in overall poorer resilience as the stressors experienced an increase (Balsam, Molina, Beadnell, Simoni, Walters, 2011). It is also the most difficult to understand, given the vast array of different functions spread throughout its mass and the interconnected functionality of its regions that makes subdividing it based on form or function a difficult task. Craddock, et al. (2012), in the article examined, attempt to produce a method for further examining the functional connectivity (FC) of the regions of the brain and subdivide them based on spatial positioning and function. Understanding FC in the brain can significantly improve understanding of many brain functions and the effect of outside stimulus of various parts of the brain. This examination will only be able to take place by creating an accurate whole brain atlas. This creation of a whole brain atlas, or a map of the brain separating it into regions of interest (ROI) based positioning and/or function, has typically been done via fMRI analysis of the brain combined with an anatomically based mapping procedure. This study seeks to use fMRI technology combined with an algorithm to create voxel clusters or ROI s that optimize both spatial coherence and homogeneity in regards to the FC of the individual ROIs that can closely match of the results of a voxel wise analysis, while improving on computation power required and interpretability. Most colleges typically lose money on most of their sporting teams, and with the income from the few sport teams they are able to provide for other students. Since a lot of colleges are losing money in the industry, they wouldn t be able to pay the athletes if they don t generate revenue. This would cause students to go to colleges that make money knowing they would be getting paid, compared to a college that doesn t have financial stability to pay athletes. College would not be college anymore. The universities would become franchises and inevitably turn into a smaller version of the NFL. Just like many figures who succeeds the outcome of wars, they know themselves as much as they know their enemies , which in this case is what Al Jabarti sees in Bonaparte while Napoleon Bonaparte attempts to make certain it would not have to be that way. Why out of all nations did Bonaparte go after Egypt? For the reason that the real adversary of France, was Britain, and Egypt was the foremost passageway for Britain s valued colony: India. In the journey, what Bonaparte found was yet another opponent: Mamelukes. This would be the chance to display the Egyptian their liberator. At least, that is what Napoleon Bonaparte envisioned himself to be. To begin, a liberator is an individual who frees a person or place from the confines of imprisonment. To explain, the loudest action to emphasize their beliefs is by driving away the people who arise around the supposed actual settlers that Bonaparte intermingles with. Achebe throughout Things Fall Apart works to counter these very stereotypes. Set in an Ibo village in Nigeria during the start of European civilization, the book focuses on the main character Okonkwo and his prideful life to give insight on the true nature of Ibo culture. Achebe uses the abstract concept of the patriarchal society and importance of conversation to humanize the Ibo people. Seen in the interaction between Okonkwo and his wives, this matter illustrates the influential role of the patriarch in Ibo society. Speaking of his role in society Okonkwo gives the advice that, if [a man] was unable to rule his women...he was not really a man (Achebe 53). Based off of Okonkwo s advice we know the men in Ibo society hold the power over their families and if they can not control their family that they are not really a man. • 15. Importance Of Fair Trade Movement Trade is the act of buying and selling goods and services. This idea of trade became popular globally, starting the fair trade movement. According to FINE in 2001, fair trade is defined as a trading partnership, based on dialogue, transparency, and respect that seeks greater equity in international trade. It contributes to sustainable development by offering better trading conditions to, and securing the rights of, marginalized producers and workers especially in the South (Moore, Wilkinson, Redfern Snedker). The fair trade movement originated in the late nineteenth century. It began as charitable organizations and political solidarity trading with poor communities in the 1940s until it expanded to become a movement in the 1960s 1970s. The movement was officially created when the leading traders and importers joined forces from multiple different countries. The movement was created to to import goods for trade. Fair trade organizations (backed by consumers) are engaged actively in supporting producers, awareness raising and in campaigning for changes in the rules and practice of conventional international trade (Moore 73 74). The importance of the fair trade movement can be explained by the foundation of the movement, the goals of the movement, the obstacles of the movement, current organizations who follow the movement, and the overall movement itself. The article was also about Catherine O Donnell, Doug Hill s great grandmother, who was the first mother of a New Zealand soldier to travel to Gallipoli to visit her son s grave, who had been killed during battle. Along with the article is three secondary images and one primary image which is on the first page of the two page article. In this essay I will use the techniques of semiotics to analyse the images and the article. Semiotics is described as a system used for analysing how all sign systems work (O Shaughnessy, Stadler 2012, p. 131). In regards to the article and the images of A courageous mother at Gallipoli the semiotic analysis will look at the representation of photojournalism, the historic and social values and our cultural identity, the denotative and connotative meanings of the image, and the signifier and signs. Representation and the critique of ideology apply to photojournalism because a photo does not exist in isolation. This means that a photo always has more meaning than what is shown. A camera only captures what is in front of the lens, not around or behind it, therefore there is always more to the story than one image can portray. A photo also has different ... Big Brother acts as a Godlike figure to the citizens of Oceania, a super nation constantly at war with the other two super nations. The government of Oceania, the Party, keeps citizens in a vice like grip through constant surveillance and laws placed on every aspect of human existence. The only loyalty allowed is to the Party. The Party controls the past, the present, and the future through its control over anything and everything. The government set up in 1984 directly reflects that of a totalitarian government. Totalitarianism as it exists in George Orwell s 1984 exhibits key features which bare striking resemblance to modern governments. The Party in 1984 uses Emmanuel Goldstein as a face for the people of Oceania to project their hate onto (in order to unite the people in hate.) The Two Minutes Hate is a ritual performed by the members of the Outer Party, as pictures are displaced for the people to scream and curse at. Its purpose is to strengthen the Party s position by giving the people someone to be mad at (that isn t Big Brother.) If the people feel a lack of control over their own lives, they re able to channel that into hate of the evil Emmanuel Goldstein and East and Eurasia (instead of being mad at Big Brother.) During one of the rituals, Winston explains that although ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This was a period of Athenian political hegemony, economic growth and cultural flourishing formerly known as the Golden Age of Athens or The Age of Pericles. The period began in 480 BC when an Athenian led coalition of city states, known as the Delian League, defeated the Persians at Salamis. As the fifth century wore on, what started as an alliance of independent city states gradually became an Athenian empire. Eventually, Athens abandoned the pretense of parity among its allies and relocated the Delian League treasury from Delos to Athens, where it funded the building of the AthenianAcropolis. Institutions The magistrates The magistrates were people who occupied a public post and formed the administration of the Athenian state. They were submitted to rigorous public control. The magistrates were chosen by lot, using fava beans. Black and white beans were put in a box and depending on which color the person drew out they obtained the post or not. This was a way of eliminating the personal influence of rich people and possible intrigues and use of favors. There were only two categories of posts not chosen by lot, but by election in the Popular Assembly. These were strategos, or general, and magistrate of finance. It was generally supposed that significant qualities were needed to exercise each of those two offices. A magistrate s post did not last more than a year, including that of the strategoi and in this sense the continued selection of Pericles year after year was an exception. At the end of every year, a magistrate would have to give an account of his administration and use of public finances. The most honored posts were the ancient archontes, or archons in English. I came to this conclusion as my Mother represents an immense purpose, that strength and beauty can arise from struggles, that one in hard times can arise to succeed. My Mother s life story symbolizes one of many morals and life learning themes that it was her struggle and hardships that gave her beauty. My mother had experienced a lot of difficulties in the process of growing up, either due to her polish or American experience. Yet my mother s story exclaims that if she hadn t experienced a life in vain, then she would not have been the person she is today. My Mother had shown me that hardships and struggles ultimately make you whom you are, as I must face and look past turbulence and obstacles, which block me from the light and success. I, Giovanni Dama, believe that my mother is whom I truly admire above many. I in firmly intend to follow my mother s ideals and her attitude of strength and glory, to never give up in any scenario, no matter what challenges I must reach and be greater than. Evils of Money and Industrialization in the Film, The Wages of Fear The messages or themes of The Wages of Fear are fairly easy to understand. Among them all, the strongest of these messages is that, simply, money and greed can corrupt and even kill. This message is clear in several aspects of the film. For example, the plot of the story is that several men take on an incredibly dangerous task, knowing they could die, because the completion of the task could bring them a large sum of money. Of course, the incentive behind their choice can be attributed to the local American oil company that is offering the money, which controls the local economy in the first place (the implication is that these men would not have to ... After all, when the American oil company went in search of people to hire for the task, they made it very clear what the dangers were, and were entirely honest with the drivers about the possible consequences that they could face. If this argument is to hold fast then, the reasons that the four men, Mario, Bimba, Luigi, and Jo, accepted the job must be explored more closely. Was it only the lust for money that caused them to put themselves in danger, or did they have other motives? To answer this question, the first two characters that should be looked at are Jo and Mario. These are the two characters who undergo the largest character development throughout the film, and who have the most in depth reasons for putting themselves in danger. First, there is Jo. He is the older career criminal/gangster/ tough guy. His life revolves around portraying an image of being couth, and projecting his superior ego on other people. Mario is the younger tough guy, still trying to make a reputation for himself, who believes that by hooking up with Jo he can gain some respect from the other people around him. For ... • 41. The Social Security Act ( Ssa ) Of President Franklin D.... Debates over Social Security have been ongoing since its inception in 1935 until today. The trend seems to be toward an increasing percentage of the American public, across party and demographic lines, in favor of strengthening Social Security funding, and a willingness to pay more to preserve and even improve benefits. However, what is not clear is whether Americans favor privatization of Social Security because of fears that the Social Security Trust Fund is living on borrowed time. The Social Security Act (SSA) of 1935 was drafted during the Great Depression as part of President Franklin D. Roosevelt s New Deal. The SSA was an attempt to limit what were seen as dangers in the American life, including old age, poverty, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 2003, Congress added a prescription drug benefit to Medicare (Edwards 431, 540). Since the Social Security Act was signed into law, many politicians have advocated for privatizing Social Security, even though Americans are in favor of Social Security and wish to strengthen the program. The American public strongly supports Social Security, across party and demographic lines. A January 2013, National Academy of Social Insurance (NASI) study, Strengthening Social Security: What Do Americans Want?, found that Americans overwhelmingly support Social Security and are willing to pay more to preserve and improve benefits. With more than 59 million or 18% of Americans receiving Social Security benefits, Americans recognize Social Security as a critical program. A large majority of Americans say they do not mind paying Social Security taxes because of the stability and security the benefits provide. These findings hold true across party lines, those polled included 87% of Democrats, 72% of Republicans, and 81% of Independents. 73% of Americans are also willing to pay for Social Security because they value it for themselves and their families. 85% of Americans say Social Security is more important than ever to ensure that the elderly and disabled have dependable income. • 42. The Heart Of The Blake Poem Analysis Blake uses rhetorical questions asked by the narrator while Shelley has Victor expect immediate answers to his questions. Blake has the narrator utilize rhetorical questions to prove that the godlike figure does not require concrete answers, but prefers to live in awe and wonderment. On the contrary, Victor s desire for knowledge and need for answers exemplifies that of a god, eventually leading him and his creation to lead a miserable life due to Victor attempting to assume a godlike position, and therefore, defying Romanticism. Throughout his poem, the narrator asks thirteen questions. The topic of the questions do not center around the narrator himself, but about the Tyger and the creator. With Did he smile his work to see? (Blake l. 19) and Did he who made the Lamb make thee? (Blake l. 20), the speaker shows genuine curiosity and respect for the creator. Similarly, the speaker also inquires about the Tyger by stating What the hand, dare seize the fire? (Blake l. 8), Could twist the sinews of thy heart? (Blake l. 6), and What dread hand? what dread feet? (Blake l. 12). Consistent with this curiosity, questioning also appears in the last line at the beginning and ending stanza. Having the similar questions Could frame thy fearful symmetry? (Blake l. 4) and Dare frame thy fearful symmetry? (Blake l. 24) introduce and conclude the poem, the narrator is portrayed as invested in others than himself. Thus, the narrator is portrayed as a godlike figure due to ... • 43. First Generation College Students Coming from a smaller town where a lot of families do not have the money to send themselves or even their children to college was tough, I was always worried about what was going to happen after high school was over. Applying for financial aid and signing up for classes without having a family member who has done it before is very difficult, the student don t know what classes to take or how much money to take out for loans, as a first generation college student myself it has been hard to do all the paperwork for college. A first generation college student can be very stressed like all college students but for first generation students they have no one that has gone through the same thing and that could help them get through it. Financial issues are going to be stressful for every college student, but for first generation students it can get extremely difficult seen as they do not know that much about applying for financial aid. Some students can get scholarships that help to pay for their college, though they do not know how to apply for those scholarships sometimes.Students who are first generation do not get the advice of their parents on college, just like how they do not know how to sign up for financial aid and other resources that are useful. Going to college as a first generation college student is a hard experience to go through, students whose parents did not go to college have a disadvantage because they do not know how to adjust well to living at college. ... • 44. Ephedrine Synthesis Hemant et al. [20] reported that combination of preloading ephedrine is an effective prophylaxis against spinal hypotension and provides hemodynamic stability when compared to the use of ephedrine or preloading alone. Although , ephedrine was considered as the drug of choice as a vasopressor in obstetrics it not take the superiority. [21 23] It was reported that the administration of ephedrine increases the blood pressure of the mother by its beta adrenergic action , so preserving uterine and placental blood flow, while other vasopressors which have a pure alpha agonist were associated with a decrease in this blood flow.[7] However, previous studies observed that ephedrine has a similar efficacy as other vasopressor and causes fetal acidosis.[24] As regard to ephedrine group, this study observed hypotension in 37.9% of ... Therefore, in our study, we used a bolus followed by continuous infusion to maintain good control of SBP with ephedrine probably to attempt increasing maternal blood pressure before onset of spinal block induced hypotension. The recommended dose for IV ephedrine infusion is between 0.5 mg/min to 5mg/min.[26] We selected a lower infusion dose (1.5 mg/min), after a small dose bolus (6 mg), as our target was to keep blood pressure at baseline. We found that with this regime ephedrine had a limited effect in maintaining blood pressure without evidence of fetal acidosis as there was a significant decrease in SBP after induction up to 14min in E group when compared all values with the baseline value but still higher than L and C groups. This result differ from the result of other authors [6,25,29] who used 2.5 ml/min of ephedrine as an infusion after 5mg bolus dose. They reported that with this dose, ephedrine was effective in maintaining blood pressure without evidence of fetal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
