Why Total Reward Is Important
Why a Total Reward Program is Important
As the labor force becomes more highly developed and demanding, rivalry between organizations for
talented employees is drastically increasing. It is extremely important that organizations make their
company more enticing as an incomparable career opportunity. Instituting a total rewards system into
an organization can do much to help it invite the paramount talent available and significantly condense
turnover. The longevity of an organization s employees is contributed to its total reward system.
According to Heneman (2007), total rewards is defined as all of the tools, whether intrinsic or
extrinsic, offered to the employer that may be employed to attract, motivate and retain employees.
This could ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the Baby Boomers about to retire, the employment philosophy for Gen X and Gen Y is changing
as well. It is now fairly common for today s labor force to change jobs every couple of years, rather
than maintain longevity with one company. Turnover costs for many corporations are costly and can
drastically affect the financial functioning of an organization. An organization that is successful in
reducing their labor costs will be able to enjoy a better profit margin. Strategic planning must be
implemented to assess the cost of turnover, build retention strategies, and strategize for anticipated and
unforeseen turnover and a shifting labor force culture. Organizations are aware of the tight labor
market and are heightening their visibility to the situation. Rewards effectively designed by an
organization allow their business to entice and magnetize top talent from a shrinking labor pool. By
offering what employees value, usual companies can reduce the migration of employees to other
organizations by employing what their employees say they value most (WorldatWork, 2007, p. 17).
Martin (2006) maintains that:
A direct link exists between employee motivation and product/service quality. When employees are
aware of the company s goals and objectives, and know the significant role they play, they will
provide higher quality products and services. Implementing a model to reward employees for meeting
company goals is one

The Boston Tea Party Was A Fair Protest By The Colonists
Thesis:
I believe that the Boston Tea Party was a fair protest by the colonists because the King of England was
using the colonists for profit, and not treating them like real people by not listening to their outcries
for help. Thus, the Boston Tea Party was the only way to get the King s attention and bring attention to
how unfair the acts were to other colonists.
What did the Tea Act say? (1) The Tea Act said two things. First, it stated that the amount of actions
needed to go through customs would be reduced for anyone exporting tea to the British colonies as
said in the fifth paragraph of the act, ...and to export such tea to any of the British colonies or
plantations in America, or to foreign parts, discharged from the payment of any customs or duties
whatsoever; any thing in the said recited act, or any other act to the contrary notwithstanding. (SFI 1,
americanhistory.abc clio.com). This part of the act was an attempt to save the nearly bankrupt East
India Company, which had played a big role in the British victory over France in the Seven Year War
by taking over multiple French settlements. The second thing the act stated was that there would be a
new tax on the tea for the American colonists. The British thought that because the act would actually
reduce the price of tea, even with the tax, the American colonists would accept this new act. The act
backfired and actually just fueled the colonist s anger toward the British Crown as they were being
taxed without

Collective Bargaining and Labour Market Outcomes for Canadian Working Women
I INTRODUCTION: UNIONS, LOW PAY, AND EARNINGS INEQUALITY
The major purposes of this paper are, first, to examine the impacts of collective bargaining on labour
market outcomes for women workers in Canada, specifically with respect to pay, benefits coverage,
the incidence of low pay and the extent of earnings inequality, and, second, to suggest ways in which
positive impacts could be extended via the expansion of collective bargaining coverage. This part of
the paper briefly reviews the literature on the impacts of collective bargaining on earnings, low pay,
and earnings inequality, and Part II provides some background description of the labour market ...

To indicate the extremes, the earnings gap between the top and bottom deciles of women earners in
Canada is double that in Sweden (i.e. the ratio between the upper limit of D9 and the bottom limit of
D2 is 3.7 compared to 1.8), and the incidence of low pay among full time women workers (defined as
earning below two thirds of the economy wide median wage) is 34.3% in Canada compared to just
8.4% in Sweden. OECD countries such as Canada and Sweden are exposed to broadly comparable
forces of structural change, such as exposure to international trade and investment flows and to rapid
technological change, but differ significantly in terms of labour market institutions. This suggests that
institutions such as collective bargaining can have significant impacts on the quality of jobs as well as
on the level of inequality between wage earners.
As the OECD notes, a major explanation for large differences between countries is labour market
institutions: different institutional settings with regard to wage bargaining, legal minimum wages and
the generosity of unemployment and other related benefits appear to account for some of the wide
variation across countries in the over all incidence of low pay. More specifically, it was established in
the OECD analysis that there is a high and negative correlation between collective bargaining
coverage and the incidence of low pay. Similarly, a major set of Canada U.S. comparative studies has
showed that labour

The Life and Times of a Philosopher of Flappers Essay
The Roaring Twenties was a time renowned for partying, drinking, and a time without war. F. Scott

Fitzgerald is described by famousauthors.org as one of the greatest writers American soil has produced

Examples Of Mcmurphy In One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest
In dark times mankind often finds itself looking to a higher power for help or guidance. A sort of
savior to save them from whatever horrid situations soceity drops on them and bring them to better
times. A perfect example of this is in Ken Kesey s One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest. Where R.P
McMurphy is portrayed as a Christ like figure there to save the ward and guide them from hellish
place it is. To guide them from The processed control of the combine and of the devilish Nurse
Ratched. Throughout the novel, Kesey alludes to all of the hell like characteristics of the ward, as well
as its Christ like figures and its savior R.P McMurphy. Frequently in the novel, Kesey compares the

Do I get a crown of thorns? Here he makes a direct reference to the crucifixion of Jesus and the crown
of thorns his captors made him wear to cause him pain and mock his self acclaimed authority. Finally,
McMurphy has his final confrontation with Nurse Ratched where he attacks her ripping her shirt off
and forever dwindling her power over the men in this ward. We couldn t stop him because we were the
ones making him do it , this was one of McMurphy s biggest allusion to the Bible (p. 318). The men
of the ward, needed action from McMurphy to be saved, just like how Jesus had to die for our sins.
This is how McMurphy had to end it so everyone would finally be free from this place. McMurphy,
like Christ, saved everyone but it end up with fatal consequences. Additionally, like Christ,
McMurphy was resurrected, except in a different kind of way. He will be back , McMurphy did come
back but he wasn t Mcmurphy just a lifeless body that looked like McMurphy(p. 320). The men in the
ward didn t even recognize him nothing like him, martini said, they got the broken nose and that crazy
scar even the sideburns, Whole things, you know, too blank (p. 321). All of his followers observing his
body like the Apostle Thomas had observed the scars of Jesus after his resurrection. Chief Finally

The commodification of water throughout history has had substantial impacts the way we live our

This theory of dilution is the solution to pollution worked for a little while but as population grew and
the demand for freshwater for humans consumption increased as well Americans learn quickly that
this theory was incorrect. The change of heart on this method was highlighted in a court case in New

Advantages And Disadvantages Of China In The 19th Century
Throughout history, China was viewed as one of the superpowers and its economic strength and
influence on other nations were vastly significant. Some say that China is becoming a center of the
world economically and militarily, however, during the 19th century, Chinese people actually believed
that China was the center the world and it was quite true. China experienced great benefits of being a
superior country than other countries, but later they faced some problems or disadvantages of being an
enemy against all the other nations, especially the West. In the early 19th century, China was
considered as the center of the world. Its massive production of manufactured goods (tea, porcelain,

China which caused Qianlong Emperor to write a letter that condescended the British King. This

Few decades later, bad trade relationship led to outbreak of war called, the Opium War. At first, it was

Explain Why Kids Should Get Paid To Do Chores Around The Home
In my opinion I don t think kids should get paid to do chores around the house. When you do little
things like laundry, or cleaning your room, or swiping I think you should just do it. The reason why
you should just do it is because it is a favor your parents have asked you for. Help your parents out
they already have to deal with you,and if you have any animals or siblings they have to deal with
them. Just take my advice I have to do chores but I suck it up and don t ask for money like some
people do. Just take the fact that you are old enough to have responsibility and old enough to do it.

The Inupiaq people have the same ideology as many other north American tribes when it comes to the
intertwined relationship with nature and the supernatural. As mention in the insight videos, the Inupiaq
think of nature as a living person that has a soul, therefor they treat nature with respect and try to not
harm it. In the insight video they say that they believe in that nature might present itself as different
object and or sometimes an actual person. Moreover, they believe that animals have magical
(supernatural) powers and that they can hear and understand human words, they also believe that
every animal has a human form and you can see it only when the animal wants you to see their human
form. This can explain the bond that is created ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was the goal of the video game for people to understand their heritage and learn about their
beliefs. I do believe that the game did a good job of communicating the values mention in the insight
videos because every challenge that Nuna and the fox faced had a moral or reason that they were
facing it in that moment. An example would be when Nuna and the fox forgot to respect the little
mouse, they had to faced the big mouse and get out of his cave afterwards, the little mouse comes to
them when they are canoeing away and they lift of the mouse out of the water and place him in their
canoe showing that they learned their lesson to respect every animal even a mouse. In the video, he
says that you only use animals for food you don t mess with them and that is a key element about their
way of life. Another example of how the game presented the Inupiaq s values of having a special
relationship with nature other than Nuna s and the fox relationship is by demonstrating that you can
overcome all of the obstacles in the game without harming or killing any animals or plants (other than
manslayer since he represented greed and he killed the fox.) Throughout their journey Nuna and the
fox would run into the owl man who would tell them stories and why things were happening, this
concept is apart of the Inupiaq values of sharing stories. Therefore, I think that the game did a good
job in communicating with the player the Inupiat s values seen in the insight

Artemisia as a Feminist
Nanette Salomon, a very well known feminist writer, wrote the article, Judging Artemisia: A Baroque
Woman in Modern Art History. The article opens up with a discussion about the 2001 2 exhibition of
Orazio and Artemisia Gentileschi: Father and Daughter Painters in Baroque Italy. The author explains
that three things are unusual here: the fact that two famous artists were presented at the same time, that
they were related as father and daughter, and the fact that the woman was better known than the man.
Her intent in this article is to look at the effects of this trope (figure of speech) in the past and in the
present.
Salomon argues that this comparison technique has been the main feature or art historical analysis. It
puts a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author also talks about the story of Susanna and the Elders. Apparently Artemisia Gentileschi
painted three versions of this biblical story at three different stages in her life, 1610, 1622, and 1649.
The author did a comparison on the three Susanna paintings and she argues that it is noticeable that
the abstracting qualities of the 1610 painting change its concept or meaning from one form of story
telling to another. She argues that the abstract form of story telling serves the purpose of finding a
visual equivalent to the deafening silence . She explains that the 1622 Susanna and the Elders speaks a
different language, and so does the 1649 version.
Nanette Salomon emphasizes that there are different ways to make sense of the changes in Artemisia s
three Susannas . One explanation may be that Artemisia s work show progressive naturalism or
realism which can be attributed to her development as an artist.
Judging Artemisia Gentileschi is a practice that is believed to have begun at the same time as aesthetic
judgment, back in the time of Vasari in the late sixteenth century.
To me, those are the main points of the article by Nanette Salomon. I think that she made a very good
historical and psychological approach on the subject. The strength of this article is that she provides a
lot of historical facts, and blends it together with her words and opinion.

Federalist No. 10 Cons

When factions are brought up in politics people think of the animosity that is created by factions in

The Effects Of Water Quality On The Water Supply Of...
Body Paragraph #1 Background:
Water is perhaps the most important component of any ecosystem. All living organisms need water to
grow and survive. As human population continues to grow, we need to understand and determine the
effects our habits will have on the ecosystems and our water supply. Four factors that can affect the
quality and importance of water are its abilities as a solvent, dipolar, benefits and costs. Acceptance
and long term sustainability of water quality interventions are pivotal to realizing continued health
benefits. According to the EPA (2015), only 3% of the world s water is suitable for drinking, 2% of
which is found in glaciers and ice, so in reality, only 1% of the earth s water is accessible and potable .
Body Paragraph # 2 Objective:
This paper highlights the need to effectively involve and design interventions to determine human
factors that can cause damage to the supply of drinking water and the damage to the environment.
Furthermore, that interventions are required to improve water quality and supply. A number of settings
and experiments were conducted of initial water sources and the effects that household factors can
lead to determine water qualities and levels of contamination. The results would show how such
household chemicals like oil, vinegar and soap cause turbidity, odor and color change in water supply.
Body Paragraph # 3 Hypotheses:
The premise for each experiment would have different results for a conclusion

Ten Easy Steps to a Successful 401 (K)
Ten Easy Steps to a Successful 401(k) For the majority of working Americans, the most common
vehicle for owning mutual funds is through their employer s retirement plan, but very few people are
making the most of this mainstay of retirement planning. Over the holidays, I had occasion to
socialize with a group of very bright, successful people who are saving for retirement. We talked of
many things, including their investments. And, sad to say, not one of them could coherently explain
what he or she was doing, and why. Everybody, it seems, wants a quick, easy answer. And for those
who are unwilling to take the trouble to figure out what they should be doing, the easy answers usually

Rebalancing is simple. Your personal investment plan should have a target asset allocation in
percentages for each asset class or fund. Once a year, apply those percentages to your total balance,
then sell the funds with too much in them and use the proceeds to buy more shares of those with too
little. Follow this as a mechanical discipline, whether or not you feel like it. Step 7: Know your plan
Read your plan literature or find somebody who can explain it to you so you understand. Know the
your rights. Know any restrictions on moving money from one asset to another and especially, know
everything you can about your investment options. Step 8: Beware of tax traps If you leave your job
voluntarily or involuntarily, you are entitled to cash in your 401(k) assets and take the money with
you. This is a poor idea. You give up your hard earned savings and the money they can make for you.
Worse, you ll have to pay taxes on whatever you take out, plus a possible early withdrawal penalty. If
you leave your job and want to transfer your 401(k) assets into a Rollover IRA, make sure the money
never touches your hands. Have it transferred directly from one custodian to another. That way your
savings will keep their tax deferred status and you won t take the risk of facing an unexpected and
unintended tax bill. If you leave your job and want to transfer your 401(k) assets into a

During the Trojan War, the gods were viewed as powerful but they were also divided and limited.
While the gods were viewed as powerful during the Trojan War , they were also divided amongst
which god was on the side of the Trojans or the Greeks. Before the war started, three goddesses have

The Comparison Of Dorothy And The Scarecrow
Dorothy s last name is Gale, gale means a strong wind that can blow a vessel or a person off course.
Dorothy s last name is an obvious metaphor that demonstrates her ability to abruptly transform
someone s life. The comparison of the Scarecrow before meeting and after meeting Dorothy is quite
large. Upon meeting Dorothy, the Scarecrow agrees to continue with Dorothy to Emerald City where
he hopes the wizard would grant him a brain. The impact Dorothy has on the Scarecrow instantly is
enough to motivate him to step outside his comfort zone and seek a new future. Notwithstanding,
Dorothy also is able to influence the Tin Man she meets along the way to seek a new commodity.

Comparing The Bell Jar And The Catcher In The R
The Bell Jar is a partly fictionalized autobiographical account of author Sylvia Plath s life. Plath,
personified as Esther Greenwood details the inequality and expectations of a young woman in 1950s
American society on her journey to find purpose. The Bell Jar holds many similarities to J. D. Salinger
s The Catcher in the Rye, both detailing the difficulties of growing up and all that comes along with it,
with The Bell Jar specifically exploring a more feminine side of adolescence. Themes of women s
rights in The Bell Jar are documented in depth by Plath throughout the novel holding relevance to the
context of the novel s setting as well as the current day state of women s rights. These key ideas are

Buddy immortalizes everything that the atypical breadwinning man of the 1950s was masculine,
religious, attractive and promising in his studies. The mistreatment of women in 1950s era America is
embodied in Buddy s views on Esther s own ambitions of being a famous poet or a brilliant professor.
Buddy dismisses her, saying in a sinister, knowing way that after I [Esther] had children I would feel
differently, I wouldn t want to write poems any more. Under the guise of the perfect man withdraws
his true bigoted attitude. The subversion, almost mockery of Esther s goals serves as an observation of
the truly smug prick Buddy is, carrying a bloated self importance and complete disregard for Esther s
own aspirations. Buddy s ignorant persona has been purposefully crafted by Plath as a personification
of society s own attitudes toward women. The underminement of female capability can be attributed to
influence of the patriarcal hand alike that of Buddy on Esther, but to a larger scale. This attitude as a
result has been ingrained in our own society s cultures. As a female student, I can see the clear
gendered divide because of the lack of positive expectations put on youth. I can identify the favouring
of males in certain educational courses or jobs, as well as the conventional roles placed on women

Core Concepts Of Quality And Associated Academic Theory
The history of quality movement can be traced back to medieval Europe (American Society for
Quality , 2016) but fundamental quality processes and practices came into effect in the early 20th
century. In the 1920 s statistical theory began to be applied effectively to quality control and by the
1950 s quality management practices were developing rapidly in Japan s manufacturing market,
becoming fully embedded in industry in Europe and the USA by the 1980 s (Department of Trade and

But is a little vague, this could relate to a number of characteristics for example reliability and cost
when in relation to products, or accessibility and efficiency in relation to the services sector. The
Chartered Quality Institute believes quality is about making organisations perform for their
stakeholders from improving products, services, systems and processes, to making sure that the whole
organisation is fit and effective (Chartered Quality Institute, 2016) This definition of quality is specific
and up to date with today s requirements of the application of quality. This definition demonstrates
Feigenbaum s (1961) idea that quality is from the cradle to the grave and also addresses stakeholders.
This could be the customer of a product, or client of a service for example a patient in a hospital.
Comparatively this definition of quality is more rounded than the ISO and Dictionary definitions and
encompasses the idea of satisfying the customer and constant improvement. Constant improvement

The contribution of quality innovators have made contemporary quality what it is today by developing

How Does Roman Polanski Use Cinematic Techniques In The...
How does Polanski convey the notion of man s inhumanity through cinematic techniques in The
Pianist? Roman Polanski s The Pianist, released in 2002, shares a realistic encounter of man s
inhumanity in World War II. Full of scenes that show the ruthless behaviour of the Nazis, Polanski
presents the idea of man s inhumanity at the time of Hitler s rise to power in Germany through skilful
cinematography. Although Polanski uses many different cinematic techniques, three of them are more
strongly drawn upon than others: lighting, camera angles, and sound. The lighting in the film works
around a realistic perception of style, reflecting the situation in World War II. The use of dull colours
emphasises the depressive feeling of the characters. An example of this can be seen in an interior
scene of an apartment of one of Szpilman s friends who is trying to help him. Bright, natural lighting

Zuckerberg is impulsive and narcissistic. For example, Zuckerberg purchased Instagram on an

Two Kinds of Love in Movie Casablanca Essay
Two Kinds of Love in Movie Casablanca
In the movie Casablanca, directed by Michael Curtiz, two different kinds of love are exposed. The
love relationship between Ilsa Lund and Rick is a more passionate relationship while the one between
Ilsa and Victor Laszlo is more intimate. Love is composed of different feelings and because of that it
can be expressed, as seen in Casablanca, in different ways. The Intimate Relationship Mind , a text by
Garth J. O. Fletcher and Megan Stenswick, helps support that claim providing a scientific background
on how love is shaped by those different feelings. It says that love is composed of three distinct and
basic components that each represent evolved adaptations; namely, intimacy, commitment, ... Show

If two lovers do not share their past with each other it is clear that they are not exactly intimate or
committed. Intimacy and commitment would require trust and sharing things besides their own bodies,
it seems that was not their case. The Intimate Relationship Mind says that in flings or one night stands,
passion can run high, whereas intimacy and commitment are probably low (75). Rick and Ilsa s
relationship seemed to work like that. Nevertheless, there was a moment when Rick s feeling started
to develop and he started to want more intimacy and commitment. That moment was when the Nazis
invaded Paris, and Rick and Ilsa decided to run away. Rick proposed to Ilsa and she didn t really
accept. When Ilsa stood Rick up in the train station the intimacy and commitment that he wanted
faded away, just like the writing on the letter faded away because of the rain. In his face, however, it
could still be seen that the passion remained there. In the end of the movie when Rick says: We ll

night. He seems to accept that all he and Ilsa have ever had was a passionate relationship and that it
was not supposed to last forever.

In Europe s early history there were many influential superpowers that contributed to the way Europe

These three forces left their mark on Europe, once they were no more. Whether it is military tactics, or

Europe the Huns fought and defeated the German Goths of Eastern Europe, the Slavs, the Franks from

During the first part of the excerpt, the interviewer asks George what his life was like growing up.
George begins by explaining he had a normal family life and learned how to cook from imitated his

And, my dad, it s kind of funny, I think he thought it wasn t good for a little boy to be making cookies

Exploring Morality in Measure for Measure Essay

In Measure for Measure, Shakespeare is able to examine the concept of right and wrong through the
characters of Mistress Overdone and Mariana. Throughout the play, by using characters that most
people would find morally reprehensible, Shakespeare is able to give the audience a different view of
these people and, hopefully, show his audience that people aren t always what they appear to be.
Through the character of Mistress Overdone, Shakespeare is able to bring a jovial side to the oldest
job known to man prostitution. Through the character of Mariana, Shakespeare allows the audience to

However, who gives the right to one man, or a group of people, to determine what is right and wrong
for everyone? This question allows Shakespeare to challenge the general notion of something always
being right or wrong. Through this scene with Mistress Overdone, Shakespeare wants his audience to
consider if something can be always right or always wrong. However, what he does prove is that a
person determining morality for everyone else is always wrong. By not allowing individuals to
determine what they want to do for themselves, no society will ever be able to become right.
In lines 244 253 of act five, scene one, Angelo explains to the Duke why he could not marry Mariana.
Shakespeare, by showing a petty reason like her dowry was lost at sea, is able to have his audience
believe that the actions of Mariana were right. However, even though these actions seem right, the
audience has to wonder if, in fact, they are right. Is it right to lie to someone you are in love with in
order for you to sleep with them? By putting that spin on it, most people would assume that not on is
this wrong, but also immoral as well. By challenging people s general conceptions about what is right
and wrong, Shakespeare is able to have his audience look at the situation in two different ways, and, in
the end, make a decision for themselves.

Pollan goes on to suggest that there are many different approaches to the food movement, and

Jason Goldman Hall Journalism
Previous journalist, Jason Goldman Hall, regards online news bloggers as amateurs who don t meet
the standards that a professional journalist is forced to meet.
Before Goldman Hall started working at Pioneer, the advanced English teacher spent a great deal of
time working on newspapers. He was able to interview all different kinds of people and had the
opportunity to gain access into events during his professional career. Because of this, it let him make
professional judgements about the media and online blogs.
According to Goldman Hall, the journalism community has sold itself out and online writers have
become the open carry advocate of the journalism world.
It s kinda like gun ownership. Goldman Hall said. It s a very powerful ... Show more content on

Journalism curriculum is now watered down by Media training in some schools, letting the online
articles overshadow traditional press routines that Goldman Hall worked hard at.
Goldman Hall describes professional journalism as a large responsibility, a special kind of ownership
that he prioritized over most things. This important job took a lot of time and effort in his life, making
the online media seem like an effortless writing output.
Journalism is an art and at times it s a science. Goldman Hall said. This source of information takes a
lot of practice and observation, a route that online writers aren t willing to take on.
Bloggers are amateurs pretending to not be. said Goldman Hall when referring to the bloggers. The
Online writers convince their audiences that they are reliable sources and the readers take their word
because it s conveniently on the internet.
Without the experience a professional journalist inherits, online bloggers don t write up to their full
potential which can result in bad journalistic techniques and negative criticism from traditional

Real World Assessment
For the real world assessment, I decided to go to a neighborhood community meeting. The meeting
that I decided to go to was assembled because of an incident that happened with a teacher who
previous taught at the elementary school. This teacher was caught with recording of individual,
students who previous and currently goes to the elementary school. This meeting took place on
September 19th, it represent a time for many of the parents and caretaker of the community to be able
to come and share their thoughts about the whole situation and how this would affect the community
as a whole. For one of the first time since I have been in Nashville I was capable of experiencing ...

There would be no boundary separating the school and the community. This would come in the form
of allowing parents and caretakers in the community a way to view the teachers that are being hired
and then be able to help with the school in ways that makes parents have to get involved with their
children. The school becomes more than just a place that parents just drop off their children and go
about their day. But it becomes a place that reassure parents that their children are safe, not by just
word of mouth, but by allowing parents to come and get a hands on experience with the school. One
thing that no one really mentioned was the impact that the community center has on the neighborhood.
It is the place that the people in the neighborhood can come to feel safe, the neutral ground of the
whole community. This is the Exosystem of the entire neighborhood, it is the place that all the
individual goes for technology, for food, and for safety. This could be the place that parents can come
and get information about what is going on with the school also, if the school partner with the

The Uk Parliament Is Increasingly Dominated by the Executive
Parliament is increasingly dominated by the executive . Discuss [16]
The word parliament derives from a word loosely translated as to talk or to deliberate . The UK
Parliament consists officially of the two Houses of Parliament: the Lords and the Commons and the
monarch, which by convention, delegates his or her authority to a group of ministers known as the
executive. The role of parliament is mainly to legislate and to govern the United Kingdom through
elected representatives. However the executive has a special role over the legislatures and it has been
argued that the UK Parliament has become increasingly dominated by the executive.
The executive is made up of the Prime Minister (PM) acting in place on the monarch and a group of ...

If a member decides to vote against the party, sanctions can be imposed and in a serious situation
when a member rebels, the PM can dismiss or appoint the member to a different position. Therefore
the PM can ensure that the executive s priorities and views are expressed in the legislatures.
However the executive s control in this regard is not total. There have been headline grabbing notices
of member s rebelling against the government position and resigning their position. For example
Robin Cook, then leader of the Commons and labour MP resigned his post due to the government s
position on Iraq. More recently in March 2008, Brown s government saw rebellion and the opposition
saw resignations over the issue of the failure to implement a promised referendum on a new EU
reform treaty. As we can see the executive s dominance of the members of the legislature is not total
but rebellions are a rarity.
The power of the PM to appoint cabinet ministers allows him or her to shape policy and therefore
legislation. The Prime Minister appoints the speaker of the house and the Lord Chancellor among
others. In this way, the PM and appointees of the executive can have considerable sway over the
legislature. The Lord Chancellor serves as a leading figure in the House of Lords but also chairs and
attends executive meetings. Although the PM usually appoints ministers from his or her party and
those who whom he or she has a good accord with, this is not always the

Stuyvesant Town Case
When the Native American tribe sold the island of Manhattan to Peter Minuit of the Dutch West India
for some beads and wampum whose equivalent value was less than $30 today, they would not have
had imagined that Manhattan became one of the hottest land on earth, from a real estate market
standpoint and other kinds of development standpoints as well. Lower Manhattan, also known as
downtown Manhattan, encompasses not only the famous financial district that has long been in people
s sweetest dream or darkest nightmare, but also the artsy SoHo, Battery Park City, and one of the first
public private development project Stuyvesant Town. The rise of the real estate market could be

the city sold to Met Life at cost. The city also guaranteed tax exemption for 25 years, in exchanged for

Munchausen Syndrome By Proxy ( Msbp )
Abstract
MSbP is a mental disorder that causes parents to falsify their child s symptoms and predetermined
diagnosis. This is normally done by mothers who are seeking attention from the preferred environment
of the medical field. The offenders themselves do not suffer from MSbP, they inflict it onto their
children and therefore are the indirect patient, using their children as the one who actually undergoes
all of the treatments.
Keywords: MSbP, Disorder, Parent, Child, Medical Staff
Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy (MSbP), is a form of child abuse in which a parent or caregiver
makes up or actually causes illnesses within a child so that they may obtain professional medical
treatment and advice for the child all the while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Over the years there has been one common factor that many professionals who study MSbP have
concluded and that is the fact that it is one of the hardest types of abuse to establish a diagnosis on.
There was little to no records of it in previous years so the work being done to better understand this
disorder have all been done within the last few decades (Castiglia, 1995). When looking at the
previous recorded cases of MSbP, more than one third of the victims at the time did not realize they
were undergoing abuse (Castiglia, 1995). This is one of the most collective reasons as to why this
disorder lacks the history it needs to be further studied and thought of when looking at types of abuse.
When first discovered and studied, more than two thirds of people did not believe that MSbP could be
or was a real disorder. Today, even with history and scholarly studies backing up its allegations and
results, only one fourth of the population say s that they completely believe in it and think it is a
serious matter that needs to be dealt with as soon as possible (Beard, 2007).
Symptoms and Signs
When looking at MSbP, the first part to take into account is that it is an active type of abuse. There are
two types of MSbP noted

Respect to Authority. Patient will not verbalize any doubts in medical treatment in front of the medical

Narrative Essay On Coptic Americans
As we pulled into 145 Oak Street, Natick, MA on Christmas Eve 2011, instead of being greeted by
fellow church parishioners, we were greeted by armored soldiers equipped with M4 Carbine assault
rifles. Instead of Honda Odysseys and Ford Focuses filling the adjacent parking lot, a giant tank
loomed over the empty spots. I was only twelve and was very confused. I had never experienced such
trouble simply going to church any other Sunday. What made this time so different? Now, flashback
almost two weeks. Since the Coptic calendar is arranged to celebrate Christmas on January 7, this
would be around the time of Western Christmas. Tensions in Egypt were on the rise, and the Coptic
community could sense that something was going to happen. Unfortunately, something did. On New
Year s Eve 2011, twenty three Coptic Orthodox Christians were killed in an attack on a church in
Alexandria and a hundred more were injured. Despite the attack taking place over five thousand miles
away, I felt that they were not only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Years of persecution have seen babies snatched from their mothers and churches burned to the ground
before the eyes of those who worshiped there just last Sunday. Yet the Coptic community remains
united and stronger than ever. I never truly realized the potential power of this strength until I
witnessed it first hand. In an effort to learn more about my Coptic origins, I set out on my own
personal journey. When I went to Egypt this past summer, I found the stories of the Coptic people
painted on the walls of the ancient churches. These walls had been scratched, shot at, burned, and
defaced throughout years of Christian persecution, but they still stood tall. These murals have survived
the test of time because they hold the stories of those whose strength transcended the body. Their
stories, passed on from one generation to the next, are, in essence, written in

African societies, along with children living in Africa. She spent most of her childhood in Zimbabwe
attending missionary schools, seeing first hand how women could be treated in education along with
in general society. Tsitsi Dangarembga grew up witnessing obstacles that women at this time to gain
any sort of power, she would know the most about life in this time and she clearly shows that in her
writing.
Dangarembga s Nervous Conditions touches upon the negative effects of colonization, race, culture,
education, poverty and women. This novel tells the story of young Tambu and her family living in

Diverty And Poverty In Haiti
UCI Haiti Manje? Manje? With empty, open hands and pleading eyes, I am asked by a five year old
Haitian if I have any food. His rounded stomach is malnourished from eating mud pies. It is mid
morning, when this child should be in school, but instead he is at home. In the background, his mom
and three siblings outside their one room house with mud floors and walls, a thatch roof, and open
windows. The poverty level in Haiti is at a heartbreaking high which can be lessened by becoming
educated and acting on the problem so Haitians in need can reap major benefits. Hunger,
homelessness, poverty, and lack of education grip the entire country of Haiti. More than two million
Haitians are homeless. That number significantly rose when an earthquake struck the island in 2010.
Because so many people lost their homes in the earthquake, IDP (internally displaced people) camps
were set up for those who did not have adequate shelter. (Last two sentences: Amnesty.org) However,
IDP camps are randomly evacuated, leaving thousands of people instantly homeless and on their own.
Most of the population lives in rural areas. A majority of the houses are two room huts with mud walls
and floors. The roofs are thatched with grasses and palm leaves or covered with sheet metal if it can be
afforded. The lack of housing or quality of housing leads to many grumbling stomachs. Many Haitians
are malnourished and starving. It is reported that over 100,000 children under the age of five suffer

  • 2. Why Total Reward Is Important Why a Total Reward Program is Important As the labor force becomes more highly developed and demanding, rivalry between organizations for talented employees is drastically increasing. It is extremely important that organizations make their company more enticing as an incomparable career opportunity. Instituting a total rewards system into an organization can do much to help it invite the paramount talent available and significantly condense turnover. The longevity of an organization s employees is contributed to its total reward system. According to Heneman (2007), total rewards is defined as all of the tools, whether intrinsic or extrinsic, offered to the employer that may be employed to attract, motivate and retain employees. This could ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the Baby Boomers about to retire, the employment philosophy for Gen X and Gen Y is changing as well. It is now fairly common for today s labor force to change jobs every couple of years, rather than maintain longevity with one company. Turnover costs for many corporations are costly and can drastically affect the financial functioning of an organization. An organization that is successful in reducing their labor costs will be able to enjoy a better profit margin. Strategic planning must be implemented to assess the cost of turnover, build retention strategies, and strategize for anticipated and unforeseen turnover and a shifting labor force culture. Organizations are aware of the tight labor market and are heightening their visibility to the situation. Rewards effectively designed by an organization allow their business to entice and magnetize top talent from a shrinking labor pool. By offering what employees value, usual companies can reduce the migration of employees to other organizations by employing what their employees say they value most (WorldatWork, 2007, p. 17). Martin (2006) maintains that: A direct link exists between employee motivation and product/service quality. When employees are aware of the company s goals and objectives, and know the significant role they play, they will provide higher quality products and services. Implementing a model to reward employees for meeting company goals is one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Boston Tea Party Was A Fair Protest By The Colonists Thesis: I believe that the Boston Tea Party was a fair protest by the colonists because the King of England was using the colonists for profit, and not treating them like real people by not listening to their outcries for help. Thus, the Boston Tea Party was the only way to get the King s attention and bring attention to how unfair the acts were to other colonists. What did the Tea Act say? (1) The Tea Act said two things. First, it stated that the amount of actions needed to go through customs would be reduced for anyone exporting tea to the British colonies as said in the fifth paragraph of the act, ...and to export such tea to any of the British colonies or plantations in America, or to foreign parts, discharged from the payment of any customs or duties whatsoever; any thing in the said recited act, or any other act to the contrary notwithstanding. (SFI 1, americanhistory.abc clio.com). This part of the act was an attempt to save the nearly bankrupt East India Company, which had played a big role in the British victory over France in the Seven Year War by taking over multiple French settlements. The second thing the act stated was that there would be a new tax on the tea for the American colonists. The British thought that because the act would actually reduce the price of tea, even with the tax, the American colonists would accept this new act. The act backfired and actually just fueled the colonist s anger toward the British Crown as they were being taxed without ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Collective Bargaining and Labour Market Outcomes for Canadian Working Women I INTRODUCTION: UNIONS, LOW PAY, AND EARNINGS INEQUALITY The major purposes of this paper are, first, to examine the impacts of collective bargaining on labour market outcomes for women workers in Canada, specifically with respect to pay, benefits coverage, the incidence of low pay and the extent of earnings inequality, and, second, to suggest ways in which positive impacts could be extended via the expansion of collective bargaining coverage. This part of the paper briefly reviews the literature on the impacts of collective bargaining on earnings, low pay, and earnings inequality, and Part II provides some background description of the labour market ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To indicate the extremes, the earnings gap between the top and bottom deciles of women earners in Canada is double that in Sweden (i.e. the ratio between the upper limit of D9 and the bottom limit of D2 is 3.7 compared to 1.8), and the incidence of low pay among full time women workers (defined as earning below two thirds of the economy wide median wage) is 34.3% in Canada compared to just 8.4% in Sweden. OECD countries such as Canada and Sweden are exposed to broadly comparable forces of structural change, such as exposure to international trade and investment flows and to rapid technological change, but differ significantly in terms of labour market institutions. This suggests that institutions such as collective bargaining can have significant impacts on the quality of jobs as well as on the level of inequality between wage earners. As the OECD notes, a major explanation for large differences between countries is labour market institutions: different institutional settings with regard to wage bargaining, legal minimum wages and the generosity of unemployment and other related benefits appear to account for some of the wide variation across countries in the over all incidence of low pay. More specifically, it was established in the OECD analysis that there is a high and negative correlation between collective bargaining coverage and the incidence of low pay. Similarly, a major set of Canada U.S. comparative studies has showed that labour ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I do believe that the game did a good job of communicating the values mention in the insight videos because every challenge that Nuna and the fox faced had a moral or reason that they were facing it in that moment. An example would be when Nuna and the fox forgot to respect the little mouse, they had to faced the big mouse and get out of his cave afterwards, the little mouse comes to them when they are canoeing away and they lift of the mouse out of the water and place him in their canoe showing that they learned their lesson to respect every animal even a mouse. In the video, he says that you only use animals for food you don t mess with them and that is a key element about their way of life. Another example of how the game presented the Inupiaq s values of having a special relationship with nature other than Nuna s and the fox relationship is by demonstrating that you can overcome all of the obstacles in the game without harming or killing any animals or plants (other than manslayer since he represented greed and he killed the fox.) Throughout their journey Nuna and the fox would run into the owl man who would tell them stories and why things were happening, this concept is apart of the Inupiaq values of sharing stories. Therefore, I think that the game did a good job in communicating with the player the Inupiat s values seen in the insight ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. Artemisia as a Feminist Nanette Salomon, a very well known feminist writer, wrote the article, Judging Artemisia: A Baroque Woman in Modern Art History. The article opens up with a discussion about the 2001 2 exhibition of Orazio and Artemisia Gentileschi: Father and Daughter Painters in Baroque Italy. The author explains that three things are unusual here: the fact that two famous artists were presented at the same time, that they were related as father and daughter, and the fact that the woman was better known than the man. Her intent in this article is to look at the effects of this trope (figure of speech) in the past and in the present. The author also talks about the story of Susanna and the Elders. Apparently Artemisia Gentileschi painted three versions of this biblical story at three different stages in her life, 1610, 1622, and 1649. The author did a comparison on the three Susanna paintings and she argues that it is noticeable that the abstracting qualities of the 1610 painting change its concept or meaning from one form of story telling to another. She argues that the abstract form of story telling serves the purpose of finding a visual equivalent to the deafening silence . She explains that the 1622 Susanna and the Elders speaks a different language, and so does the 1649 version. Nanette Salomon emphasizes that there are different ways to make sense of the changes in Artemisia s three Susannas . One explanation may be that Artemisia s work show progressive naturalism or realism which can be attributed to her development as an artist. Judging Artemisia Gentileschi is a practice that is believed to have begun at the same time as aesthetic judgment, back in the time of Vasari in the late sixteenth century. To me, those are the main points of the article by Nanette Salomon. I think that she made a very good historical and psychological approach on the subject. The strength of this article is that she provides a lot of historical facts, and blends it together with her words and opinion. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

All living organisms need water to grow and survive. As human population continues to grow, we need to understand and determine the effects our habits will have on the ecosystems and our water supply. Four factors that can affect the quality and importance of water are its abilities as a solvent, dipolar, benefits and costs. Acceptance and long term sustainability of water quality interventions are pivotal to realizing continued health benefits. According to the EPA (2015), only 3% of the world s water is suitable for drinking, 2% of which is found in glaciers and ice, so in reality, only 1% of the earth s water is accessible and potable . Body Paragraph # 2 Objective: This paper highlights the need to effectively involve and design interventions to determine human factors that can cause damage to the supply of drinking water and the damage to the environment. Furthermore, that interventions are required to improve water quality and supply. A number of settings and experiments were conducted of initial water sources and the effects that household factors can lead to determine water qualities and levels of contamination. The results would show how such household chemicals like oil, vinegar and soap cause turbidity, odor and color change in water supply. Full of scenes that show the ruthless behaviour of the Nazis, Polanski presents the idea of man s inhumanity at the time of Hitler s rise to power in Germany through skilful cinematography. Although Polanski uses many different cinematic techniques, three of them are more strongly drawn upon than others: lighting, camera angles, and sound. The lighting in the film works around a realistic perception of style, reflecting the situation in World War II. The use of dull colours emphasises the depressive feeling of the characters. It became an attractive destination for those wanting a thrill seeking and edgy night life, with none of the prohibitions of censorship that may have been in force at home. Cabaret, as an art form had originated many years before, but under authoritarian government with censorship. Thus Cabaret became the embodied version of the metropolitan city within an art form during the Weimar era. Exploring Morality in Measure for Measure Essay Exploring Morality in Measure for Measure In Measure for Measure, Shakespeare is able to examine the concept of right and wrong through the characters of Mistress Overdone and Mariana. Throughout the play, by using characters that most people would find morally reprehensible, Shakespeare is able to give the audience a different view of these people and, hopefully, show his audience that people aren t always what they appear to be. Through the character of Mistress Overdone, Shakespeare is able to bring a jovial side to the oldest job known to man prostitution. This question allows Shakespeare to challenge the general notion of something always being right or wrong. Through this scene with Mistress Overdone, Shakespeare wants his audience to consider if something can be always right or always wrong. However, what he does prove is that a person determining morality for everyone else is always wrong. By not allowing individuals to determine what they want to do for themselves, no society will ever be able to become right. In lines 244 253 of act five, scene one, Angelo explains to the Duke why he could not marry Mariana. Shakespeare, by showing a petty reason like her dowry was lost at sea, is able to have his audience believe that the actions of Mariana were right. However, even though these actions seem right, the audience has to wonder if, in fact, they are right. Is it right to lie to someone you are in love with in order for you to sleep with them? By putting that spin on it, most people would assume that not on is this wrong, but also immoral as well. By challenging people s general conceptions about what is right and wrong, Shakespeare is able to have his audience look at the situation in two different ways, and, in the end, make a decision for themselves. Discuss [16] The word parliament derives from a word loosely translated as to talk or to deliberate . The UK Parliament consists officially of the two Houses of Parliament: the Lords and the Commons and the monarch, which by convention, delegates his or her authority to a group of ministers known as the executive. The role of parliament is mainly to legislate and to govern the United Kingdom through elected representatives. If a member decides to vote against the party, sanctions can be imposed and in a serious situation when a member rebels, the PM can dismiss or appoint the member to a different position. Therefore the PM can ensure that the executive s priorities and views are expressed in the legislatures. However the executive s control in this regard is not total. There have been headline grabbing notices of member s rebelling against the government position and resigning their position. For example Robin Cook, then leader of the Commons and labour MP resigned his post due to the government s position on Iraq. More recently in March 2008, Brown s government saw rebellion and the opposition saw resignations over the issue of the failure to implement a promised referendum on a new EU reform treaty. As we can see the executive s dominance of the members of the legislature is not total but rebellions are a rarity. The power of the PM to appoint cabinet ministers allows him or her to shape policy and therefore legislation. The Prime Minister appoints the speaker of the house and the Lord Chancellor among others. In this way, the PM and appointees of the executive can have considerable sway over the legislature.
