The Departed Comparative Essay
In 2002, the film Infernal Affairs was released in Hong Kong, telling the tale of an undercover officer
named Yan who is a mole within the ranks of a mafia called the triads and trying to take the
organization down Yet Inspector Lau on the Hong Kong police force is a mole for the triads. The two
race to uncover the respective moles while fighting to maintain their cover. Due to the film s
popularity, an American director, by the name of Martin Scorsese, created an American adaptation of
Infernal Affairs titled The Departed in 2006. While both films show stark differences due to the
cultural differences between Hong Kong and Boston, the city in which The Departed takes place, they
both convey different perspectives of corruption. While Infernal Affairs views corruption as hiding
under a façade of a clean city, making it subtler to audiences, The Departed surrounds ... Show more

During this scene, movement is present because, Dignam physically harms Sullivan after the news of
Queenan s death, which causes a flurry of movement in the room to stop it from continuing. This
direct contrast shows how the evils of corruption have clearly seeped into the station. Everything is
more rugged, the characters are clearly rattled and violent, and the dark colors create a dreary
atmosphere as a result of Queenan being caught in the crossfire of taking down Costello and end his
corruption upon Boston. As a result, Scoresese places the audience to be trapped in the corruption
present. A perfect example of this is in figure 2 where, in the horror and violence of Queenan s death,
the refection of the clear blue sky and trees in the windows portrays how the city wants to be clear of
corruption, but it cannot, and Queenan is a product of the suffering it

Shareholders and employees can understand that PEPSICO is committed in the long run as it is in the
short run. Customers and communities have the ability to select its products from a wider portfolio by
the year 2030. Thus keeping all its stakeholders highly satisfied and motivated.
How is it consistent, verifiable and feasible?
The statement clearly indicates a time period of achieving the vision statement by the year 2030 which
makes it verifiable. PepsiCo also has a significant market share globally, with few immediate threats
in the form of competition, so being the singular most dominant supplier in this chain could be
considered feasible, as seen in the diagram below.
Hence, the vision statement keeps its consistency with PepsiCo s mission statement and values.
How is it inspirational?
Focusing on the words singular and most dominant , in PepsiCo s vision statement, all stakeholders
will be inspired and motivated to achieve more, work harder, and be greater than they already are. The
statement could be considered fairly aggressive, but it is definitely motivational when read to large

Stress on receiving of short term benefits. If employees have experience of getting fast profits they
will try to work in the same way. Management should convince workers that it is better to prefer long
term and stable growth and improvement than quick, short term profits. Lack of strategy. If there is no
any sequence of realizing goals in a company, employees will feel uncertainty about possibility of
constant professional and carrier growth. Organization should have continuously realizing strategic
plan where considerable part should be devoted to questions of quality improvement. Staff turnover. If
high staff turnover within organization is apparent, this indicates serious problems. Eliminating of
previous four sicknesses will help to solve this one. Management should assume the proper
arrangement to make employee feel as an important part of one consolidated team.
Advantages of TQM:
TQM gives some short term advantages, however majority of advantages is long termed, and tangible
benefits from them appear only after successful realization. In big organizations this process can take
few years. Long term benefits expected from implementation of TQM higher productivity, higher

What are the origins and history of the Endangered species act?Congress started the Endangered
Species Act in 1966 to list native animal species as endangered animal and give them more protection
than they had. They tried to create the animals home like the habitat they live and so they can survive
longer and not go to extinct. So as time goes by they are collecting more and more extinct animals to

There first step was them having 80 nations to sign Conventions on International Trade in Endangered

Essay about Cesar Chavez
Cesar Chavez Since before the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, race relations between the United States
and Mexico have been less than great. The United States has a history of prejudice and racism. On a
national level this sentiment has formed some legislation, and on a lower level it has formed the way
many people conduct their lives. Mexican have been exploited for their work for decades. One man
fought long and hard for his people and their civil liberties. That man was Cesar Chavez. Cesar
Chavez was born in Yuma, Arizona to a middle class family. Cesar s family owned there land and also

He found that the locals were upset because the braceros were taking their jobs. The bracero program
began in Congress in 1942. It s purpose was to import seasonal contract laborers in times of labor
shortages in the states. Apparently, the farmers would falsely claim labor shortages in order to import
braceros. The wages that farmers paid the braceros was a lot lower than that they would have to pay
the local workers. The farmers were also able to make their money back from the braceros by charging
them excess for room and board. Cesar combated against the farmers by organizing boycotts, sit
downs and protests. All of Cesar s accomplishments got him the state executive directorship for the
CSO. He served this position for two years. In 1962, Chavez proposed that the CSO support a union
movement for farm workers. The movement was brought to a vote a vote and rejected. During his
time at the CSO, he had met Dolores Huerta, a woman who shared his passion for obtaining farm
worker s civil rights. His plan was to fight for the rights of the migrant and resident farm workers in
California. To achieve this goal, Chavez set out to form a viable union among the thousands of
disenfranchised farm workers. Chavez encountered many obstacles after the formation of his union
and at the beginning of their strike. Aside from the fact that many of the workers were hesitant to join

Diabetes Education Curriculum Analysis
When designing an educational class for newly diagnosed diabetics in the community, the curriculum
should incorporate active teaching, learning theories, creativity, fun and experiential learning. A
comprehensive curriculum is fundamental to the education of a well prepared and clinically effective
educator (Neidorf, 2012). This curriculum is consistent with the American Diabetes Association
(ADA) concept of diabetes education and empower people with diabetes and healthcare team
members in an effort to improve prevention strategies and diabetes outcomes (2013). In addition, a
curriculum can serve as a mechanism to facilitate the delivery of diabetes education standards, provide

True Grit Analysis
St. George, South Carolina claims to be the Grits Capital of the World , eating more pounds of grits
per capita than any place else in the world. Grit, what is it? Well it can be food or a personality trait,
depending on how you look at it. This question is underlined in the novel True Grit. This idea of grit
comes from the book True Grit by Charles Portis, about a 14 yr. old girl, Mattie Ross, who has come
to find someone with grit to avenge her father. She hires a U.S Marshall named Rooster Cogburn who
brings along a Texas Ranger named La Boeuf to help her capture and/or kill her father s murderer,
named Tom Chaney. Through this story Portis explores characters who have grit and those who lack it.
Several definitions of grit are brought ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In my opinion someone with true grit is not being pitiless, tough and fearless. Mattie reiterates this grit
description by telling him, They tell me you are a man with true grit (Portis 59). I disagree with Mattie
on this one, to me there are other traits of true grit shown later that describe the meaning of grit better.
This tells us that Rooster has a grit that is different from Mattie s grit shown in the book, and that grit
can also mean being harsh, resilient and fearless. Rooster and them finally run into the gang that
Chaney is in, led by Lucky Ned Pepper. At this point Ned s gang has left Chaney with Mattie, to cash
their stolen goods when La Boeuf and Rooster come to halt them in their tracks. La Boeuf knocks
Chaney out while Rooster challenges the band of four bandit s head on, like so, He took the reins in
his teeth and pulled the other saddle revolver and drove his spurs into the flanks of his strong horse
and charged directly at the bandits (Portis 201). This action quote is my favorite display of Rooster s
true grit because he shows it as being bold and courageous. Rooster kills all but one, by means of this
action he illustrates grit in his boldness, strength and roughness by literally gritting his teeth together
to perform this act of true grit. After this event, Mattie is poisoned by a snake bite and Rooster shows
grit again by risking many things, including his hat, Rooster lost his hat and never looked back (Portis
215). I have a favorite hat and would be sad to lose it, so for me this shows that Rooster s meaning of
grit changed. If it wasn t for his care about Mattie, he probably would have turned back for his hat. He
did it to save Mattie s life, displaying a different type of grit, one of valor, resolution and care of her.
While Rooster showed us more sides to grit, La Boeuf surprisingly proved that even Texas

Player Puck Tracking System
In an article by NHL.com, Player, puck tracking coming to the World Cup , Bettman gives a statement
about the new player tracking system. It gives people another way to connect with the game. If you re
a fan, you can have more and more insights to the game, and if you re a casual fan or not a fan at all,
this may give you another reason to connect even more with the game.
I agree with Bettman s statement. I believe that even the casual hockey fan could gain interest in the
NHL with the introduction of this new tracking system. In my opinion, being able to have a great
amount of individual data from each player on the ice would gain even the most casual hockey fan
interest in the sport. The introduction of this new technology could ultimately help the NHL grow and
reach many sport fans around the world that might not have been interested in the sport originally. ...

Iso osmolar Concentration of Carrot Cells Lab
INTRODUCTION
For a more thorough understanding of this lab introduction, the concepts of, iso osmolar, membrane,
equilibrium, and concentration gradient evaluated. Iso osmolar can be known as the point in which the
substance of experimentation faces no change despite the amount of solute inside the solvent( because
the solvent and solute concentration is equal. This is where the line on a graph would cross on the x

The result showed the affects of osmosis, where particles moved to achieve equilibrium. The 0.2 M
sucrose had a +8.37% change in mass as a class average and our group and +9.52%. The initial mass
for these carrots were 2.1g and became 2.3g when the 2 days had ended. This happened because of the
same reason for the 0.0 M sucrose, where the concentration of particles were greater inside the cell
compared to the outside of the cell, causing the water molecules moving into the cell through the semi
permeable membrane. However, the solution the carrots were dunked into had a 0.2 M sucrose, unlike
the first solution. This caused the mass of the carrot to change less because there was already some
particles outside of the cell, allowing for equilibrium to become reached a lot faster than 0.0 M
sucrose. In 0.4 M sucrose, there was a class average of 2.34% and we had 4.76%. The initial mass was
2.1g with a final mass of 2.0g. This was the first solution to have a negative percentage change in
mass from the other six. There was a decrease in mass of the carrot because water had moved from the

Persuasive Essay On Nuclear Weapons
In the day by day uproar of current crises facing the entire humankind, we almost forgot that many
generations are yet to come. Not the individuals who will live quite a while like 100 or 200 years from
now, but 1,000 or a long time from now. Personally, I would use the word hope to describe them since
we are facing dangers, called existential dangers, that threaten to wipe out the entire mankind. These
dangers are not only for big disasters but rather the disasters that could end history in few seconds.
Today, nuclear war and climate change are the biggest threats to civilization and are intrinsically
linked. Beyond the physical destruction of the bomb and the resulting radiation, the impact of even a
small nuclear disturbance could be profound, leading to serious issues of food scarcity. For as long as
humans have walked this Earth we have been concerned with one issue, domestic safety. Everyone
around the world wants to feel as though they are safe from all imminent threats to themselves and
their homes. As technology has progressed so has the threat to our safety as there is never world
peace. The only counterbalance is that as threats have become more advanced our defensive
technologies and tactics have improved as well. We have now reached a period in which innovation is
at maximum capacity and we are also trying to improve and implement new defense strategies. This
innovation has brought us to the day and age of Nuclear Weapons. Nuclear weapons have proven to be

Essay on Truman Capote s In Cold Blood
Truman Capote wrote In Cold Blood with the intention of creating a new non fiction genre, a creative
spin on a newspaper article with the author, and his opinions and judgments completely absent from
the text, leaving only the truth for the reader to interpret. The pages of In Cold Blood are filled with
facts and first hand accounts of the events surrounding the brutal murder of a wealthy unsuspecting
family in Holcomb, Kansas. Author Truman Capote interviewed countless individuals to get an
accurate depiction of every one affected by and every side of the murder. Although he declares himself

Perry Smith, there is much debate about this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once he s viewed as intellectual enough to analyze Perry and make assertions about his personality
traits, Capote can successfully project and subtly impose his opinion of Perry. Later, Perry explains
Willie Jay is as perceptive as a well trained psychologist (Capote 42 3). Because psychologists go
through extensive schooling to be able to accurately assess individuals, Capote includes this quote to
portray Willie Jay as an authorial figure whose thoughts are accurate and should be widely accepted.
The emphasis on well trained provides more weight in everything Willie Jay says and cements his
trustworthiness. Capote prefaces Willie Jay with the concept that he is as trustworthy as a smart and
well trained psychologist, so readers trust and accept Willie Jay s opinions of Perry, and, by extension,
his personal opinion that readers should sympathize with him and readily accept the justifications for
the murders.
Truman Capote saw Perry as being superior to others in his uniqueness and, since he is absent from
the novel, expressed this opinion in Willie Jay s character accounts of Perry. After asserting Willie Jay
s legitimacy, Capote presents the farewell letter that Willie Jay wrote to Perry. In it, Willie Jay
analyzes Perry in a psychologist like manner; he writes:

Mandatory Retirement Essay examples
Mandatory retirement is perhaps a necessary evil; as older employees are forced out of the work force,
it creates space for new, younger employees. Mandatory retirement is a form of age discrimination, it
forces a person to retire because they are a certain age; it does not take into account if that person
wants to retire. It also does not take into account the financial standing of the individual, or if they are
physically or mentally still capable of doing the job.
Although mandatory retirement is not largely popular, it still has an effect on many older workers and
how they plan for retirement. Mandatory retirement involves less than 1 percent of the work force and
so opens up only a small fraction of the total jobs , because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

From 1970 to the year 2000, the world s over 60 population is projected to increase by more than 90
percent . This is an astonishing number, seeming how the total population was predicted to grow by
less than 75 percent . The most prominent feature of the looming shift in the composition of the
working age population is, of course, its increasing age . It is hard to say what will happen when
suddenly there will be an abundance of older people who are preparing to retire.
The increase in life expectancy is partially to blame for the increase in elderly citizens, as there are
now better medicines and medical procedures to cure ailments which could have easily killed a person
10 or 20 years ago. As Levine said, There are more elderly and a larger proportion of elderly in the
population now than ever before in the history of the world, and individuals live longer and have a
longer span of healthy, vigorous life than ever before . We have to prepare, not only to have more aged
people in the work force, but also to have adequate pensions and supplements to aid these people
when they do retire.
Elderly people are often stereotyped as forgetful, weak, or unable to take care of themselves; keeping
this in mind, how can you logically hire an elderly person to do a job that a young, more physically fit
employee could undoubtedly perform with less risk and effort. Stereotypes such as these are playing a
huge role in the controversy over mandatory retirement. Morgan

Who Is John Smoltz Starting And Closing Essay
Autobiographical review: Starting and Closing John Smoltz, a Cy Young Award winner and World
Series title holder writes the book starting and closing describing the struggles, career ending injuries
and hard work that it took over his 14 years in the Major leagues to earn the title of being one of the
greatest pitchers to ever step foot on the mound. At 7 years old Smoltz decided that he was going to
play baseball in the Major leagues for the Detroit Tigers. In 1985 Smoltz was drafted by his dream
team only to be traded to the Atlanta Braves in 1987. In Chapter One Smoltz talks about the kind of

This is simple yet very strong statement, shows that Smoltz wasn t playing the game for anybody or
anything else but for himself and the love of the game. The quote also displays that Smoltz was a
fierce competitor and losing was not an option. Smoltz would often times become injured during the
middle of a game but instead of calling it quits he would alter his mechanics to take some of the stress
off of the injured tissue. This shows that he was not afraid to fail because changing his mechanics
during the middle of a game could result in getting shelled by the other team in front of thousands of
people and worst of all, letting his team down. Smoltz was a very positive guy. He states, If there is
anything that I ve learned in this journey, it s how to make the best out of really crappy situations (8).
This is a very good lesson the reader can take away from the book because if a person is always
looking at the negative side of things he/she will most likely be a negative person and end up being

The Similarities Between The Gospel Of Mark And Luke
Coincidences are a funny thing. They may seem completely uncalled for and uncommon; and many
may say that the similarities between the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke are just this: uncalled
for and uncommon. This plagiarism issue is summed up at the Synoptic Problem , making the Gospels
of Mark, Matthew, and Luke the synoptic gospels. The problem shows how many passages of the
three gospels have the same wording, sometimes in the same order. However, the similarities balance
out with the vast differences between what is included and what is not. The Gospel of Mark contains
the most shared passages between Matthew and Luke. Many comparative pieces of literature exist
with columns of each text (synoptic parallels), where Mark is typically ... Show more content on

The widely accepted theoretical solution for the synoptic problem is a second source, usually called
the Q scroll. The Q scroll is thought to contain 235 verses, while leaving out any narrative referring to
Jesus birth, early life, or death. The scroll has been reconstructed from shared knowledge between the
gospels. This is commonly called the two source hypothesis , where the Gospel of Mark and the Q
scroll were accessible by the authors of the Gospels of Matthew and Luke. This is brought around by
the fact that Matthew and Luke share commonalities with Mark that they do not share with each other.
The two source hypothesis gains further support from the timeline, which puts Mark as the first gospel
around 70 CE and Matthew and Luke following suit around 85 CE.
A lot about the gospels remains unknown to scholars. But the similarities help understand what texts
were available to who. The two source hypothesis already depicts and early Christianity where some
gospels, such as the Gospel of Mark and the Q scroll were easily accessible to enough people that the
other synoptic gospels could be based on them. There may be many similarities in the gospels that
help pin together the life and death of Jesus, but many of the differences prevent a crystal clear

Lawrence Oliver And Hamlet Comparison
Hamlet was a unique piece of its time that discussed family dynamics in a royal setting; it
incorporated things that most likely were not discussed in the actual time period of the play. Problems
like losing a family head and having your mom get remarried is not something we living the modern
world would find new and fascinating, so it is up to the movie director to construe the same scene and
try to modernize it for their audience. Kenneth Branagh, who released his film in 1996, tends to stick
to a play like feel in his movie while Laurence Oliver, whose film was released in 1948, decided for a
more dramatic approach to his visual for Scene one Act two in Hamlets soliloquy. This can be seen in
the way Branagh retells his turmoil out loud ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What this means is he has decided to focus on Hamlet s grief of his father s death unlike Branagh who
instead gives more focus on Hamlet s disdain in his mother remarrying. While speaking Oliver
enunciates each word, How weary, stale, flat, and unprofitable. (l, ii, l. 135) so that you actually feel
his misery, he talks softly and slowly to convey he is tired of the world. His entire posture is given the
look of someone through with life. While walking he takes each step deliberately, heavy and lost in his
thoughts. He stands before the chair that could have possibly been his father s as if he might be
standing before him with his arms crossed at his back. All these various acting techniques display how
a person might act while mourning. Branagh on the other hand builds to a momentum; as he talks the
angrier he gets. The way he emphasizes, within a month , (l, ii, l. 145 and 149) again and again allows
the audience to know just what he thinks of the wedding. She married. O most wicked speed, to post ,
(l, ii, l. 156) is an important part because of the way Branagh decided to stress certain words, as if he
is so disgusted he cannot even talk. It can be said he is so angry that he cannot contain it within
himself that he has to use his body to express himself. Each time he points Branagh tends to point in
the same direction, which could indicate

Othello’s Diversity of Imagery Essay
Othello s Diversity of Imagery
The diverse imagery found in Shakespeare s drama Othello represents a world all by itself. And this
world of imagery contributes to the prevailing sentiment of pain and suffering and unpleasantness.
There is no shortage of imagery in the play; this is for certain. Critic Caroline Spurgeon in
Shakespeare s Imagery and What it Tells Us sorts through the plethora of imagery in the play:
The main image in Othello is that of animals in action, preying upon one another, mischievous,
lascivious, cruel or suffering, and through these, the general sense of pain and unpleasantness is much
increased and kept constantly before us. More than half the animal images in the play are ... Show

The peculiar pain of sexual jealousy is deeply involved with the excremental aspect of the sexual
organs, and the emotion in betrayal in a supremely intimate trust is involved with agonizing
associations of filth and animality. (1200)
Just how strong a force is the imagery in this drama? Is it more powerful than the chorus in ancient
Greek tragedy? H. S. Wilson in his book of literary criticism, On the Design of Shakespearean
Tragedy, discusses the influence of the imagery of the play:
It has indeed been suggested that the logic of events in the play and of Othello s relation to them
implies Othello s damnation, and that the implication is pressed home with particular power in the
imagery. This last amounts to interpreting the suggestions of the imagery as a means of comment by
the author the analogy would be the choruses of Greek tragedy. It is true that the play contains many
references to heaven and hell and devils. as Wilson Knight has pointed out. But Mr. Knight has wisely
refrained from drawing the conclusion that Shakespeare means thus to comment upon Othello s
ultimate fate. (66)

Martin Luther King Education Without Character Analysis
Martin Luther King Jr. believes a good education includes both intelligence and character. These are
attributes which cover a broad spectrum of concepts he feels the education system has neglected to
teach. While King s essay, The Purpose of Education, was written 70 years ago, it will remain a
timeless and relevant piece until it no longer reflects the truth of our education system.
In his writing, King says But education which stops with efficiency may prove the greatest menace to
society. The most dangerous criminal may be the man gifted with reason, but with no morals. We are
not born with morals, we are born selfish with no concept of who we are or what we are supposed to
be. The idea that we are born innocent from birth prevents morals from being taught. This is the
danger intelligence without character presents. Education without character presents people with the
opportunity to do brilliant, immoral things. The complete education gives one not only power of
concentration, but worthy objectives upon which to concentrate. To me, and to many other people,
worthy objectives include putting one s efforts into bettering the world rather than profiting from it.
Education which includes both intelligence and character makes people like Jonas Salk, who chose not
to patent his polio vaccine. Education with only intelligence creates people like Martin Shkreli, who
raised the price of Daraprim from $13.50 to $750 per pill overnight. To save man from the morass of
propaganda, in my opinion, is one of the chief aims of education. Education must enable one to sift
and weigh evidence, to discern the true from the false, the real from the unreal, and the facts from the
fiction. Education must also provide tools to help people differentiate between evidence and
propaganda. This aspect of education is meant to protect people from engaging in or being complicit
with immoral actions. When large segments of a society believe propaganda, they are more easily
manipulated into allowing political and social actions to hurt the vulnerable. We must be able to
separate the lies of those who operate with high intelligence and low moral character. These are the
people who prey on the weak minded to gain power and

to use fresh chevre as an appetizer: 1. Finger Sandwiches A common appetizer for tea parties or

challenges a modern day entrepreneur s face in the ultra competitive technology market place. We also
point to a modern day entrepreneur who succeeded in a very stereotypical industry. Gender
stereotypes are also of immense concern, and presented for reader awareness. The pitfalls associated
with a tech startup are presented to show the vast complexity in the modern day. Options are

Billabong may diversify its production by foreign direct investments in the U.S. e.g. set up local
production plants. In case of appreciation in AUD against USD, the price competitiveness of products
would not be weakened as compared with local products. Flexible sourcing could be applied to allow
switch of production from one country to another. Learning from Stanley Black Decker, Billabong
could reduce its import to the U.S. and export more from the U.S. production plant to other countries
when USD depreciate against other currencies. This help to create long term economic
competitiveness in the U.S. market.
For diversification of market, a more balanced market distribution is recommended. The current
position of Billabong is highly dependent on the Americas segment with almost half of the revenues.
If the situation continues, trading in other segments cannot help if the Americas segment fails.
Revenues when diversify in different currencies could be better secured from the economic exposure

Persuasive Essay About Uniforms
Many different types of uniforms are currently being worn today, but the people wearing them will
either hold them with an honorific or stigmatic connotation. This paints a very black and white
picture, but it would be hard to find someone who would consider their uniform as both an honor and
a mark of disgrace. This is a result of some uniforms being a punishment or being forced to wear,
while others are earned through very hard work and dedication. Almost everyone has worn a uniform
that they were proud of wearing and a uniform that they were less than enthusiastic about; however
most people would agree that they distinctly remember a specific uniform they feel strongly about,
whether or not it was an honorific or stigmatic one. Throughout my life I have worn many different
uniforms as well, but for whatever reason the ones I have disliked always stick out to me the most. My
least favorite off them all was my Sears uniform, it held so many negative thoughts in my head, it was
hard to picture. The simple thought of putting it on could ruin my entire day. There were many
experiences behind this, but here are a few reasons my Sears uniform was a stigmatic one.
My Sears uniform represented everything I had hated about the store in the first place. The uniform
was an old blue collared shirt with a cheaply made pair of khaki pants, all put together with black

Changing Structure of Watch Industry
SWISS WATCH MARKET
In 1970s the Swiss industry produced around 75 million units per year as compared to 25 million units
in 1940s.
Since 1966, when the Swiss Government s restriction on sale and acquisition of watch companies
lapsed, the industry experienced a crescendo of mergers, bringing down the number of firms to around
1000.
In 1971, ASUAG , the super trust combined the assembling firms selling seven different brands into
the General Watch Holding Company. This move forged important new financial and managerial links
between the component manufacturing and assembling sectors of the watch industry.

manufacturing industry. In fact, only two U.S. watch companies, Bulova and Timex, were involved in
any domestic watch production.
Since the beginning, U.S. companies have struggled to cope with the labour requirements of
watchmaking.
Some U.S. watch sellers never tried; from the start imported finished watches or movements and
simply put them in watch cases here. Other firms tackled the problem by locating at least part of their
production overseas. Bulova and Gruen, for example, established their own manufacturing plants in
Switzerland in the early years of the 1980s.
After the Second World, jeweled lever watches dominated the U.S. market.
Then during the 1950s and early 1960s the situation changed drastically. Timex first stormed the low
price end of the watch market and later moved up into the middle price range. At the same time
marginal Swiss producers flooded the U.S. market with inexpensive pin lever and jeweled lever
watches making price competition all the more severe.
In 1960s the Japanese began to carve out their piece of the U.S. market. On top of this, the mass
merchandising revolution of the 1950s threw the traditional watch distribution system, sales through
jewelers and fine department stores, into chaos. To survive in a market dominated by price
competition, one after another U.S. watch company gave up on domestic watch manufacturing until,
by 1970 there were only two survivors Bulova and Timex.

was swabbed using a cotton swab, the cells were then placed in an agar plate. DNA was then extracted
from the cultured bacteria by using a technique to lyse the cells and solubilize the DNA, then enzymes
were used to remove contaminating proteins. The DNA extraction consisted of a lysis buffer that
contained high concentrations of salt for denaturing. Binding with the use of ethanol and a washing
step to purify the DNA. The final step for the DNA extraction was elution where the pure DNA was
release. Proceeding the extraction of DNA the results of the 16s gene amplification were examined
through gel electrophoresis it was analyzed by estimating the size of the PCR bands with marker
bands. After measuring the success of the extraction, a technique called TA cloning was started.
Cloning of PCR products was done by using partially purified amplified products with

Ida Tarbell s Influence On American History
Ida Tarbell Throughout her lifetime, Ida Tarbell served as an outspoken, strong willed and
controversial figure in American History. Her harsh exposés of the Standard Oil Company in McClure
s magazine, later culminated into The History of the Standard Oil Company (1904) earned her
volumes of attention as an investigative journalist, also known as a muckraker . As a Progressive Era
reformer she acted out of her appetite to change society, and in her case, squash trusts which were
hurting America s independent businesses. Directed by her father s experience of being driven out of
the oil business by the Standard Oil Company as well as her persistent persona, Tarbell was able to
disclose Rockefeller s corrupt trust through her incessant investigations leading to general awareness
of corporate trusts and a major supreme court ruling utilizing the Sherman Antitrust Act. Above all,
Ida Tarbell s ruthless muckraking resulted in society s awareness of toxic trusts and Rockefeller s
Standard Oil Company to be crushed. Tarbell s first hand experience of her father s oil tank business
failure due to the Standard Oil Company s scheming set her up for her major success as a muckraker
later in her career.
Ida Tarbell grew up in Erie County, Pennsylvania. Frank Tarbell, Ida s father, saw an opportunity and
switched jobs in order to become a part of the evolving oil business in their area. Soon business was
driven away by the Standard Oil Company and wealthy oil refiners

Serial Killer Stereotypes
The first Image that pops into my head when I hear the words Serial Killer is always a Caucasian man
with an awkward personality. That s true for most people because of the way everyone always
portrays serial killers as being white men. Throughout history people have always made it seem as if
men are the only ones capable to do such horrific crimes because of they are more aggressive. In the
movie Silence of the Lambs a man named Hannibal Lecter is a cannibal who killed and ate his
patients. He is played by a white make that portray the killer as being a polite, charming , and brilliant
doctor. In most cases people assume the killer has a high IQ or is mentally ill. He will always live
alone and not really interact in social gatherings because he doesn t want anyone to find out about the
secret he holds. In most cases it is true men are the ones who are serial killers and they do it in the
worst way possible. Men are known for being stronger so they can do more damage. ... Show more

In most cases it is true that the killer is a man because women only make up 10% of killing throughout
history while men make up 90%. in terms of race caucasian are the top race for becoming serial
killers. The second is african american. In the media it always turn to being the man who killed a
dozen women because he was sexually frustrated and in most cases it true that men kill for sex. when

Examples Of Imperialism In Avatar
In the year 2009, James Cameron wrote and directed one of the most remarkable films I have ever
seen Avatar . This science fiction saga has a story line that is engaging and captivating for its audience.
Avatar took place on a moon called Pandora. Humans discovered very valuable natural resources on
Pandora and did whatever it took to obtain what they needed from Pandora. The people of Pandora are
Na vi s, a 10 foot tall, blue skinned humanoid alien group that lived in the rainforest or Pandora. The
Humans found a way to interact with the Na vi s by artificial yet organic avatars that were controlled
with a human mind and conscience. Jake Sully, a paraplegic marine who was given the task to
manipulate the Na vi s into leaving their home. Sully entered ... Show more content on

We try to give them medicine and education road! But no, they like mud. I wouldn t care except their
damn village is sitting right over the riches unobtanium deposit for a hundred klicks of any direction.
Which sucks, for them, because they need to relocate . This cruel words shows imperialism. Avatar s
imperialism in the movie and the world s history of imperialism have many similarities. People with
more military or power tend to destroy people who have less power for self gain. Imperialism is the
advocacy of extending the power and dominion of a nation by gaining indirect control over the
economic life. There are many times in history were natives of a country have been imperialized by a
foreign country for their land resources, this happened in the Avatar movie. Africa was imperialized by
the Great Britain to conquer new lands for Brits to settle like Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the
American colonies. They imperialized them to get the wealth of their lands. Diamonds and gold in
South Africa and ivory from Kenya. To open up trade routes, to get goods etc. This was why they were
imperialized. The humans in the Avatar wanted to obtain unobtainium which lied beneath the home
tree to save from energy

Origins Behind Mimes
The teachings about origins behind Mimes were very beneficial to me. It was such a refresher to read
about the vision that Larnell Harris had about a person with a white face and white gloves, using
creative moves to flow with a gospel song, simply an amazing vision that has came to past. Now we
have mime ministries all over the country. As I did more research about the history of mimes I also
learned that this art form was not always used for its good. The Greeks used it show stories to there
gods where their acts were sexual in nature. To me this does not bother me one bit because God can
take a mess and certainly turn it for good. Even though it was used in bad ways doesn t mean it had to
stay that way. It was also a key factor to let Mimes

Social role of women
The social role and stature of women has been an eternal topic. In an age when the images of women
were expected to be associated with marriage, motherhood, and domestic matters, few Americans
could have thought of a young woman from an upper middle class family would pursue professional
study of art in Europe in the late nineteenth century. Yet, praises and critics both fall on the young
artist, Mary Cassatt (1844 1926). In this paper, I will show how two historians contrast about the their
views of this feminine artist, as well as their methodological approaches.
The first one is from Susan Fillin Yeh. In her article Mary Cassatt s Images of Woman, she argues that,
Cassatt s images of women, unique within the context of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At an evening performance she would be likely to have an escort. The performance she most probably
attends is an afternoon matinee. (First Level) Appearing in the 1850s, popular by the 1880s, and an
institution by 1900, the afternoon matinee owed its existence to the increasing financial autonomy of
women with interests like Cassatt s opera goer. (Second Level) The painting, a sign that the adage, a
woman s place is in the home, was hardly every woman s conviction, depicts a new type of female,
the woman who participates in cultural events. (Third Level) (Yeh 1976, pp. 359 360)
While Yeh concludes Cassatt s images being independent modern women, Norma Broude doubts such
idea in her article Mary Cassatt: Modern Woman or the Cult of True Womanhood? , in which she
argues Cassatt s patterns of complicity and resistance. From her perspective, Cassatt had to negotiate
very carefully her relationship to this cult of true womanhood, as an atypical professional lady painter
from upper middle class. The images of happily sequestered mothers and children supported and
continue to support a conservative view of woman s nature and position, and Cassatt s own political
astuteness was responsible for this complex pattern of guarded social resistance on the one hand and
complicity on the other. She points out, that her repeated production of happy mothers and children
had been so successful might because a similar kind of social problem with a that of a century ago,

Advantages Of NIMS
The National Incident Management System (NIMS) brings many advantages to the all hazard incident
to streamline practices before, during and after an event. Comprised of five main components that
strengthen its overall effectiveness in an all hazards environment are preparedness, communications,
resource management, command and management and the ongoing management and maintenance
(Broder Tucker, 2012). Furthermore, NIMS provides a standardized method that can be applied to all
hazards, regardless of their size and jurisdiction. First and foremost, NIMS provides a standardized
approach that helps emergency responders work together to prevent and respond to events by utilizing
the fore mentioned predetermined components. Each of these components contributes to the overall
effort to mitigate or the response to a disaster. However, NIMS is not a standalone system; it receives
guidance from the National Response Framework (NRF) doctrine, the Incident ... Show more content

Therefore, NIMS sets the standards for the nation, emergency professionals and the communities
before and during a disaster.
Therefore, NIMS is a living system that provides guidance on how to proceed before, during and after
an event by establishing a command and control structure to manage the disaster. Seemingly, it offers
a roadmap to prevent or respond to threats and incidents regardless of its size and complexity through
the use of its components, NFR and relying on the use of the Incident Command System (Broder
Tucker, 2012).
Conceived from lessons learned, NIMS applies these lessons to continue to improve its processes from
past events to save lives and property in the future. NIMS is cumbersome in size, but does provide
guidance, precedents and a means to recover from the

The Departed Comparative Essay In 2002, the film Infernal Affairs was released in Hong Kong, telling the tale of an undercover officer named Yan who is a mole within the ranks of a mafia called the triads and trying to take the organization down Yet Inspector Lau on the Hong Kong police force is a mole for the triads. The two race to uncover the respective moles while fighting to maintain their cover. Due to the film s popularity, an American director, by the name of Martin Scorsese, created an American adaptation of Infernal Affairs titled The Departed in 2006. While both films show stark differences due to the cultural differences between Hong Kong and Boston, the city in which The Departed takes place, they both convey different perspectives of corruption. Everything is more rugged, the characters are clearly rattled and violent, and the dark colors create a dreary atmosphere as a result of Queenan being caught in the crossfire of taking down Costello and end his corruption upon Boston. As a result, Scoresese places the audience to be trapped in the corruption present. A perfect example of this is in figure 2 where, in the horror and violence of Queenan s death, the refection of the clear blue sky and trees in the windows portrays how the city wants to be clear of corruption, but it cannot, and Queenan is a product of the suffering it ... It s purpose was to import seasonal contract laborers in times of labor shortages in the states. Apparently, the farmers would falsely claim labor shortages in order to import braceros. The wages that farmers paid the braceros was a lot lower than that they would have to pay the local workers. The farmers were also able to make their money back from the braceros by charging them excess for room and board. Cesar combated against the farmers by organizing boycotts, sit downs and protests. All of Cesar s accomplishments got him the state executive directorship for the CSO. He served this position for two years. In 1962, Chavez proposed that the CSO support a union movement for farm workers. The movement was brought to a vote a vote and rejected. During his time at the CSO, he had met Dolores Huerta, a woman who shared his passion for obtaining farm worker s civil rights. • 9. True Grit Analysis St. George, South Carolina claims to be the Grits Capital of the World , eating more pounds of grits per capita than any place else in the world. Grit, what is it? Well it can be food or a personality trait, depending on how you look at it. This question is underlined in the novel True Grit. This idea of grit comes from the book True Grit by Charles Portis, about a 14 yr. old girl, Mattie Ross, who has come to find someone with grit to avenge her father. She hires a U.S Marshall named Rooster Cogburn who brings along a Texas Ranger named La Boeuf to help her capture and/or kill her father s murderer, named Tom Chaney. Through this story Portis explores characters who have grit and those who lack it. Several definitions of grit are brought ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In my opinion someone with true grit is not being pitiless, tough and fearless. Mattie reiterates this grit description by telling him, They tell me you are a man with true grit (Portis 59). I disagree with Mattie on this one, to me there are other traits of true grit shown later that describe the meaning of grit better. This tells us that Rooster has a grit that is different from Mattie s grit shown in the book, and that grit can also mean being harsh, resilient and fearless. Rooster and them finally run into the gang that Chaney is in, led by Lucky Ned Pepper. At this point Ned s gang has left Chaney with Mattie, to cash their stolen goods when La Boeuf and Rooster come to halt them in their tracks. La Boeuf knocks Chaney out while Rooster challenges the band of four bandit s head on, like so, He took the reins in his teeth and pulled the other saddle revolver and drove his spurs into the flanks of his strong horse and charged directly at the bandits (Portis 201). This action quote is my favorite display of Rooster s true grit because he shows it as being bold and courageous. Rooster kills all but one, by means of this action he illustrates grit in his boldness, strength and roughness by literally gritting his teeth together to perform this act of true grit. After this event, Mattie is poisoned by a snake bite and Rooster shows grit again by risking many things, including his hat, Rooster lost his hat and never looked back (Portis 215). I have a favorite hat and would be sad to lose it, so for me this shows that Rooster s meaning of grit changed. If it wasn t for his care about Mattie, he probably would have turned back for his hat. He did it to save Mattie s life, displaying a different type of grit, one of valor, resolution and care of her. While Rooster showed us more sides to grit, La Boeuf surprisingly proved that even Texas ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This happened because of the same reason for the 0.0 M sucrose, where the concentration of particles were greater inside the cell compared to the outside of the cell, causing the water molecules moving into the cell through the semi permeable membrane. Not the individuals who will live quite a while like 100 or 200 years from now, but 1,000 or a long time from now. Personally, I would use the word hope to describe them since we are facing dangers, called existential dangers, that threaten to wipe out the entire mankind. These dangers are not only for big disasters but rather the disasters that could end history in few seconds. Today, nuclear war and climate change are the biggest threats to civilization and are intrinsically linked. Beyond the physical destruction of the bomb and the resulting radiation, the impact of even a small nuclear disturbance could be profound, leading to serious issues of food scarcity. For as long as humans have walked this Earth we have been concerned with one issue, domestic safety. Everyone around the world wants to feel as though they are safe from all imminent threats to themselves and their homes. As technology has progressed so has the threat to our safety as there is never world peace. The only counterbalance is that as threats have become more advanced our defensive technologies and tactics have improved as well. • 22. Mandatory Retirement Essay examples Mandatory retirement is perhaps a necessary evil; as older employees are forced out of the work force, it creates space for new, younger employees. Mandatory retirement is a form of age discrimination, it forces a person to retire because they are a certain age; it does not take into account if that person wants to retire. It also does not take into account the financial standing of the individual, or if they are physically or mentally still capable of doing the job. Although mandatory retirement is not largely popular, it still has an effect on many older workers and how they plan for retirement. Mandatory retirement involves less than 1 percent of the work force and so opens up only a small fraction of the total jobs , because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From 1970 to the year 2000, the world s over 60 population is projected to increase by more than 90 percent . This is an astonishing number, seeming how the total population was predicted to grow by less than 75 percent . The most prominent feature of the looming shift in the composition of the working age population is, of course, its increasing age . It is hard to say what will happen when suddenly there will be an abundance of older people who are preparing to retire. The increase in life expectancy is partially to blame for the increase in elderly citizens, as there are now better medicines and medical procedures to cure ailments which could have easily killed a person 10 or 20 years ago. As Levine said, There are more elderly and a larger proportion of elderly in the population now than ever before in the history of the world, and individuals live longer and have a longer span of healthy, vigorous life than ever before . We have to prepare, not only to have more aged people in the work force, but also to have adequate pensions and supplements to aid these people when they do retire. Elderly people are often stereotyped as forgetful, weak, or unable to take care of themselves; keeping this in mind, how can you logically hire an elderly person to do a job that a young, more physically fit employee could undoubtedly perform with less risk and effort. Stereotypes such as these are playing a huge role in the controversy over mandatory retirement. Morgan ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They may seem completely uncalled for and uncommon; and many may say that the similarities between the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke are just this: uncalled for and uncommon. This plagiarism issue is summed up at the Synoptic Problem , making the Gospels of Mark, Matthew, and Luke the synoptic gospels. The problem shows how many passages of the three gospels have the same wording, sometimes in the same order. The widely accepted theoretical solution for the synoptic problem is a second source, usually called the Q scroll. The Q scroll is thought to contain 235 verses, while leaving out any narrative referring to Jesus birth, early life, or death. The scroll has been reconstructed from shared knowledge between the gospels. This is commonly called the two source hypothesis , where the Gospel of Mark and the Q scroll were accessible by the authors of the Gospels of Matthew and Luke. This is brought around by the fact that Matthew and Luke share commonalities with Mark that they do not share with each other. The two source hypothesis gains further support from the timeline, which puts Mark as the first gospel around 70 CE and Matthew and Luke following suit around 85 CE. A lot about the gospels remains unknown to scholars. But the similarities help understand what texts were available to who. The two source hypothesis already depicts and early Christianity where some gospels, such as the Gospel of Mark and the Q scroll were easily accessible to enough people that the other synoptic gospels could be based on them. And this world of imagery contributes to the prevailing sentiment of pain and suffering and unpleasantness. There is no shortage of imagery in the play; this is for certain. Critic Caroline Spurgeon in Shakespeare s Imagery and What it Tells Us sorts through the plethora of imagery in the play: The main image in Othello is that of animals in action, preying upon one another, mischievous, lascivious, cruel or suffering, and through these, the general sense of pain and unpleasantness is much increased and kept constantly before us. Wilson in his book of literary criticism, On the Design of Shakespearean Tragedy, discusses the influence of the imagery of the play: It has indeed been suggested that the logic of events in the play and of Othello s relation to them implies Othello s damnation, and that the implication is pressed home with particular power in the imagery. • 28. Martin Luther King Education Without Character Analysis Martin Luther King Jr. believes a good education includes both intelligence and character. These are attributes which cover a broad spectrum of concepts he feels the education system has neglected to teach. While King s essay, The Purpose of Education, was written 70 years ago, it will remain a timeless and relevant piece until it no longer reflects the truth of our education system. In his writing, King says But education which stops with efficiency may prove the greatest menace to society. The most dangerous criminal may be the man gifted with reason, but with no morals. We are not born with morals, we are born selfish with no concept of who we are or what we are supposed to be. The idea that we are born innocent from birth prevents morals from being taught. This is the danger intelligence without character presents. Education without character presents people with the opportunity to do brilliant, immoral things. The complete education gives one not only power of concentration, but worthy objectives upon which to concentrate. To me, and to many other people, worthy objectives include putting one s efforts into bettering the world rather than profiting from it. Education which includes both intelligence and character makes people like Jonas Salk, who chose not to patent his polio vaccine. Education with only intelligence creates people like Martin Shkreli, who raised the price of Daraprim from $13.50 to $750 per pill overnight. To save man from the morass of propaganda, in my opinion, is one of the chief aims of education. Education must enable one to sift and weigh evidence, to discern the true from the false, the real from the unreal, and the facts from the fiction. Education must also provide tools to help people differentiate between evidence and propaganda. This aspect of education is meant to protect people from engaging in or being complicit with immoral actions. When large segments of a society believe propaganda, they are more easily manipulated into allowing political and social actions to hurt the vulnerable. We must be able to separate the lies of those who operate with high intelligence and low moral character. These are the people who prey on the weak minded to gain power and ... • 42. Serial Killer Stereotypes The first Image that pops into my head when I hear the words Serial Killer is always a Caucasian man with an awkward personality. That s true for most people because of the way everyone always portrays serial killers as being white men. He is played by a white make that portray the killer as being a polite, charming , and brilliant doctor. In most cases people assume the killer has a high IQ or is mentally ill. He will always live alone and not really interact in social gatherings because he doesn t want anyone to find out about the secret he holds. • 43. Examples Of Imperialism In Avatar In the year 2009, James Cameron wrote and directed one of the most remarkable films I have ever seen Avatar . This science fiction saga has a story line that is engaging and captivating for its audience. Avatar took place on a moon called Pandora. Humans discovered very valuable natural resources on Pandora and did whatever it took to obtain what they needed from Pandora. The people of Pandora are Na vi s, a 10 foot tall, blue skinned humanoid alien group that lived in the rainforest or Pandora. The Humans found a way to interact with the Na vi s by artificial yet organic avatars that were controlled with a human mind and conscience. Jake Sully, a paraplegic marine who was given the task to manipulate the Na vi s into leaving their home. Sully entered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We try to give them medicine and education road! But no, they like mud. I wouldn t care except their damn village is sitting right over the riches unobtanium deposit for a hundred klicks of any direction. Which sucks, for them, because they need to relocate . This cruel words shows imperialism. Avatar s imperialism in the movie and the world s history of imperialism have many similarities. People with more military or power tend to destroy people who have less power for self gain. Imperialism is the advocacy of extending the power and dominion of a nation by gaining indirect control over the economic life. There are many times in history were natives of a country have been imperialized by a foreign country for their land resources, this happened in the Avatar movie. Africa was imperialized by the Great Britain to conquer new lands for Brits to settle like Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the American colonies. They imperialized them to get the wealth of their lands. Diamonds and gold in South Africa and ivory from Kenya. To open up trade routes, to get goods etc. This was why they were imperialized. • 44. Origins Behind Mimes The teachings about origins behind Mimes were very beneficial to me. It was such a refresher to read about the vision that Larnell Harris had about a person with a white face and white gloves, using creative moves to flow with a gospel song, simply an amazing vision that has came to past. Now we have mime ministries all over the country. As I did more research about the history of mimes I also learned that this art form was not always used for its good. The Greeks used it show stories to there gods where their acts were sexual in nature. To me this does not bother me one bit because God can take a mess and certainly turn it for good. Even though it was used in bad ways doesn t mean it had to stay that way. It was also a key factor to let Mimes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Social role of women The social role and stature of women has been an eternal topic. In an age when the images of women were expected to be associated with marriage, motherhood, and domestic matters, few Americans could have thought of a young woman from an upper middle class family would pursue professional study of art in Europe in the late nineteenth century. Yet, praises and critics both fall on the young artist, Mary Cassatt (1844 1926). In this paper, I will show how two historians contrast about the their views of this feminine artist, as well as their methodological approaches. The first one is from Susan Fillin Yeh. In her article Mary Cassatt s Images of Woman, she argues that, Cassatt s images of women, unique within the context of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At an evening performance she would be likely to have an escort. The performance she most probably attends is an afternoon matinee. (First Level) Appearing in the 1850s, popular by the 1880s, and an institution by 1900, the afternoon matinee owed its existence to the increasing financial autonomy of women with interests like Cassatt s opera goer. (Second Level) The painting, a sign that the adage, a woman s place is in the home, was hardly every woman s conviction, depicts a new type of female, the woman who participates in cultural events. (Third Level) (Yeh 1976, pp. 359 360) While Yeh concludes Cassatt s images being independent modern women, Norma Broude doubts such idea in her article Mary Cassatt: Modern Woman or the Cult of True Womanhood? , in which she argues Cassatt s patterns of complicity and resistance. From her perspective, Cassatt had to negotiate very carefully her relationship to this cult of true womanhood, as an atypical professional lady painter from upper middle class. The images of happily sequestered mothers and children supported and continue to support a conservative view of woman s nature and position, and Cassatt s own political astuteness was responsible for this complex pattern of guarded social resistance on the one hand and complicity on the other. She points out, that her repeated production of happy mothers and children had been so successful might because a similar kind of social problem with a that of a century ago, ... • 46. Advantages Of NIMS The National Incident Management System (NIMS) brings many advantages to the all hazard incident to streamline practices before, during and after an event. Comprised of five main components that strengthen its overall effectiveness in an all hazards environment are preparedness, communications, resource management, command and management and the ongoing management and maintenance (Broder Tucker, 2012). Furthermore, NIMS provides a standardized method that can be applied to all hazards, regardless of their size and jurisdiction. First and foremost, NIMS provides a standardized approach that helps emergency responders work together to prevent and respond to events by utilizing the fore mentioned predetermined components.
