Southwest Airlines Hub Capacity And Congestion Management

Southwest Airlines Hub Capacity and Congestion Management
ASCI602 The Air Transportation System
06 June 2015
Abstract
Southwest Airlines shot out of the gates, much to the chagrin of their competitors as a short haul, low
fare, and high frequency carrier. As SWA expanded and deregulation occurred, they had to decide
what kind of airline they wanted to be and how they would adapt to the changing environment. The
FAA reports that passenger numbers are expected to reach a billion passengers in 2023 (FAA, 2011).
Most Airlines are responding to the increased demand by centralizing and consolidating their assets.
This in turn creates a situation where capacity is maximized in some airports and congestion increases
causing significant delay. Demand will continue to rise over the next few decades and these airlines
must rely on regulators and policy makers to upgrade the very necessary infrastructure and
technology. Southwest s strategy is to remain a point to point carrier instead of the traditional hub and
spoke carrier, satisfying their customer demand with lower congestion at underutilized airports with
more flights. However Southwest continues to remain flexible looking forward as it adopts hub and
spoke techniques, coordinates with the FAA and governing bodies, and invests heavily in its most
important airports to stay ahead of the pack.
In the early seventies, SWA was begun by a couple of innovators in Teas, Rollin King and

Benjy-Personal Narrative
Stop it! I pleaded, as Benjy pummeled me.
Lisa was trying to pry Benjy off of me.
Your a freak! I yelled as I ran away.
Lisa met me in the principal s office. Benjy was there making up excuses to the principal of Atlanta s
Millwood High School, Mr. Betty.
You re in big trouble Benjy! Mr. Betty exclaimed, obviously not believing his story.
Let s rewind this. I am Kurt. I am a senior in high school, I am a skinny, medium sized kid, with
brown hair and green eyes. My best friend is a tall blond girl. Her name is Lisa. I m gay. And I am
okay with that, but some people are not. Like a boy named Benjy. He bullies me for that. I don t mean
like calling me names like queer which he does, but I also mean physical bullying punching, ... Show

I sat down. Staring off into space. I thought, with a little laugh, that he was a good kisser. But I mostly
wondered why he kissed me. And I was really mad that my first kiss was with my worst enemy! I
stayed sitting down breathing heavily until I got kicked out of the locker room by my gym teacher.
What happened? Lisa kept asking.
Nothing. I tried to sound innocent. But Lisa knew something was wrong. She kept nagging me. I m
scared something more will happen. The next day school took forever, because I was thinking about
Benjy kissing me. Is Benjy gay? Does he have a crush on me? All these questions going through my
mind. Lisa was still nagging me, but I didn t talk. After school I got pulled into the boys bathroom and
heard a click from the door being locked. I turned around and Benjy was right there. My mind raced.
If you tell anybody what happened... He paused for a tiny bit and shivered, I will hurt you badly and
probably kill you. His tone was shaky. Benjy shoved me out of the bathroom, You have been warned.
He said quietly. I went straight to the office and left a note saying, Check the cameras in the
bathrooms

Participatory Modes
What is a documentary? The technical term is utilizing pictures or interviews with people involved in
real events to provide a factual record on a particular unique subject. In other words, it is a programme
that provides a reputable document on a detailed subject. One influential person on documentaries is
Bill Nichols who is a film critic and theorist known for his pioneering work in documentary, he
compared film theory to that of documentaries for the first time and that even though they are made
with different purposes in mind that does not separate them. Documentaries or film have conventions
and practices such as screenwriting, staging, re enacting, rehearsal and performance , non actors,
handheld cameras, improve and found footage. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

documentary is made and that it is infeasible for it to be an untouched fact so to speak because it gets
affected by so many different processes and techniques for example the camera and editing to enhance
it and so it accepts it and may also make these matters recognized to the viewers with the aid of
authentically having and exhibiting them in the movie itself. It admits to the audience this is not the
truth but a reconstructed version of it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cId3MgHgKpo Performative
Mode is where the filmmaker is deeply involved and this type of documentary is on the whole
subjective, the filmmaker and the film might depict their personal journey. It does not set out to lecture
truth or a point of view in any case but acknowledges the emotional and subjective facets. They might

that husband and wife don t express their emotions for each other but in it doesn t mean they don t
have the emotions or feelings. Though they don t express themselves apparently, but they keep a
strong intimacy, attachment for each other which is beyond the limitation. But in the case of Mr. and
Mrs. Das, we see that they are quite frank, behave with their children like an elder brother and sister,
not like parents. On the apparent level they have great intimacy but as the story unfolds, it becomes
clear that they lack the emotional attachment especially from the side of Mrs. Das as she is suffering
from a guilt consciousness with which Mr. Das is completely unaware of. She even finds Mr. Kapasi
as a suitable person to talk about her past instead of her husband. Interestingly enough, the marriage of
Mr. and Mrs. Das was not an arrange marriage, rather Mrs. Das had fallen in love with Mr. Das at a
young age and later they got married with the permission of their respective families but it can t be
called a typical arranged marriage. Even Mrs. Das frankly talks to Mr. Kapasi about her sexual
relation with Mr. Das. This was quite unusual for a person like Mr. Kapasi, who has never seen his
wife naked. Even he does not approve the infidelity which Mrs. Das has committed though his own

Employee Rights
Abstract The issue of employers and employees rights has always brought controversy in most
companies. Some rights are expressly known like the right of employees to get paid after working for
the agreed period of time among others. However, there are those things done by the employers that
most employees feel are too private. Employees feel that some things done by the employers are an
intrusion to their privacy. This paper will discuss issues on whether the employer has a right to review
the employees email. It will look at both the employers and the employees perspective and what the
law says about the issue. Introduction Employees and employers have reciprocated obligations
towards each other. These duties are usually expressed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The law supports the claim that employees have a right to access employees emails, although most
employees are of the opinion that their employers should not access their emails. The courts have not
found any reasonable expectation for the employees to have privacy in the same and therefore, they
have always granted permission to the employers to keep an eye on the employees activities as well as
reviewing it. In a case of Smith v. Pillsbury Co., the plaintiff had sued the employer on the ground that
he had wrongfully discharged him after the employer intercepted an email message he considered
inappropriate (Jennings, 2005). Smith being an at will kind of employee, his suit centered on whether
by being discharged, it went against Pennsylvania s public policy thereby falling into the exemption
under the general rule which indicate that employees who are employed on the at will basis can have
their employment terminated any time. The defendant was given motion from dismissal of the case
since it failed to state a claim. The employer was therefore found not guilty of either invading the
employees privacy or violating public policy when he terminated smith (Wolkinson Block, 1996). The
employer had created email communication system but had told the employees that it was privileged
and confidential. The employer also informed the workforce that their emails would not be intercepted

Orientalism in M. Butterfly
She is petite, submissive, and great in bed, the greatest combination for the perfect woman. Yellow
fever is the psychological inclination towards Asian woman that has been expressed by a portion of
the male population. This stereotype is a part of orientalism that continues to be discussed amongst
today s society; it is deemed odd or labeled as a fetish. M. Butterfly a Tony Award playwright written
by David Henry Hwang consists of ideas related to orientalism through the layers developed in gender
identity, global politics and art forms. The play begins in the present 1988 with Rene Gallimard sitting
in a Paris prison. Gallimard declares himself as a celebrity, and relishes that his fame has spread to
Amsterdam, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Butterfly does not reflect the complications between the U.S. and China, but certainly depicts secret
intelligence being traded among the Chinese from an outlier source, French diplomat Rene Gallimard,
who did not realize this deception from his Perfect Woman , Song Liling. Before the full context of M.
Butterfly can be explored, it is important to establish the oriental stereotype that is expressed in the
play.
Oriental women have long been fetishized into a stereotype; they are depicted as submissive and
passive, and are silenced by the double pressure from race and sex , Oriental woman, as Said (1979)
states in Orientalism, is usually viewed ―with sexist blinders and serves as ―the creatures of a male
power fantasy and Asians as a whole are considered to be inferior and emasculated, easy targets for
exploitations and dominance. Asian woman, always caged and subordinate both in the patriarchic
society and in the Oriental rhetoric tradition, are natural subjects for the White s desire (Weilin).
This stereotype is still regarded in todays society. According to Prof. Dr. Opfermann and Prof. Dr.
Wippermann from Johann Wolfgang Goethe University, their thesis Orientalism in Contemporary
Asian American Literature Mounting Madame Butterfly on the Asian American Needle implies that
David Henry Hwang had two objectives in mind ... (1) Negating

different than others in the QSR industry in that it offers a more customized experience for customers,
while also streamlining service and reducing waste (Murphy). This point of sale system also has the
future potential to connect to customer s mobile phones for further descriptions, while also featuring a
touch screen for ease of access. This new technology will replace a system that is currently over 20

points; Chairman, Chief Executive, and President, J. Clifford Hudson, reported not only a 2.2 percent
increase in stores who had begun using this new technology, but also stated a whopping 33.8 percent
rise in profits, for the same time period. This increase in profits can be related to the fact that the new
POS system is not only beneficial for the customer, but also for the restaurant and employees while
minimizing waste, it also makes some things such as theft, miscommunication, and

Design Of Maximum Power Point Tracker With Mechanical System
ABSTRACT
The present report describes the different modules involved in the design of a maximum power point
tracker with mechanical system (MPPT). The system uses four light dependent resistances (LRD) to
measure the light intensity on the four sides of a solar panel then, using two steppers motor, rotates the
panel in the direction of the LRD which measures the maximum light intensity. The power output
from the panel is used to charge a twelves Volts battery through a DC DC buck converter.

Model Three Stages Of Kurt Lewin s Theory
The Model three stages Unfreeze, Change and Refreeze which was explained by Lewin by changing
the shape of a block of ice. He explained that if one have large cube of ice but realised after some time
that he wants a cone of ice, what to do? First, melt the ice so that is become easier to change Unfreeze.
The second step shape the iced water into the want form Change and finally freeze to the new form
Refreeze. It is likely to take these phases to entirely complex levels yet I don t trust this is important to
have the capacity to work with the theory. Be that as it may, know that the hypothesis has been
condemned for being excessively simplified.
The method has changed a lot since the theory was initially introduced in 1947, however the Kurt
Lewin model is still to a great degree important. Many new models are actually based on Kurt Lewin
model.
The first stage which is the unfreezing one, is the most vital to recognise the change happening around

This indicates that it does not serve to define the objective of planned change in group performance as
the reaching of a different level. Permanency of the new level, or permanency for a desired period,
should be included in the objective.
Lewin s concern is about emphasising the change and make sure that the desired change is established
and continued into the future. By not doing this, might force people to go back while doing what they
are used to.
Since, the Lewin s model has a definite end; I don t think that this would be adopted for Casela World
of Adventures as there are still lots of changes to come and in high speed. This model would rather be
used to set up change management for people/organisation where it is quite easy to understand by
ensuring that all stages are extended to help for better

Since Fama French Three Factor Model seem to explain average returns on stocks and bonds of North
American publicly traded companies (Fama et al., 1993). But no test has been performed on the firm
level returns. Therefore, we present the following hypotheses formally here: H1a: If Fama French
Three Factor Model can capture the stock and bond returns of North American companies, then the
model can capture firm level returns as well. In addition to ordinary Fama French Three Factor Model,
we also want to examine the momentum effect existence on the firm level returns. The average returns
of stock and bond can be explained by the value and momentum factors in North American
Companies (Fama et al., 2012). H2a: The momentum factor should ... Show more content on

For example, the products from Apple have very strong product strengths; however, there are still
many potential functional and health issues associated with their products . So, the Apple may have a
moderate rating for the product concerns. In the process to calculate the CSR ratings, Apple will yield
a positive score on the product category since its product strengths are over the product concerns. The
same rationale applies to all other five categories. Consequently, the higher CSR ratings are, the more
socially responsible firms are. The Fama French Three Factor data is from the Fama French Portfolios
and Factors on the WRDS database ranged from January 1991 to December 2015. The monthly

Observation Infant Child Observation
On October 16, 2017, I observed in the infant room from 8:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.. The child I
observed was a female and just turned eight months old. Indicators given by the child during the
observation, show that the child is progressing at a normal developmental pace and even excelling in
other areas. Through observing her, I noticed her motor skills were excelling beyond what was
expected. She was pulling herself up and standing. I would often notice her attempting to walk after
she was standing or even balancing on one foot. She would often be standing on her toes and using her
arms to hold herself up. She showed a lot of strength in her motor development. I even observed her

another infant in the room take the toy she was using away from her. Surprisingly, instead of crying,
she decided to solve the problem. She simply, looked around and grabbed another toy. This also shows
that she is beginning to self regulate her emotions. Also, when she was trying to get ahold of the
papers I had in my lap, I decided to hide them from her to observe what her response would be. She
curiously looked around trying to determine where it went. She didn t try to find the paper, but she
recognized that it disappeared. She was more attracted to the exciting and noisy objects. There was
one object in the room that worked like a noisy version of an hour class. After I would flip the toy, she
would watch the beads travel to the bottom, then she attempted to flip the toy herself. She used her
thumb and index finger to grab onto the object and even though she couldn t flip it correctly, she
definitely attempted. She began to get frustrated and attempted until she was successful.
There was not a lot of verbalizing from her during the observation, but the verbalizations I did observe
were indicators the developmental milestones she has reached. She was making many sounds like
babababa and making consonant sounds. I observed her responding to sounds I made by laughing or
producing quick sounds. She even

Background Facts About We Are Acting For Robert Joyce Essay
BACKGROUND FACTS: We are acting for Robert Joyce, who has two problems regarding different
issues. The first problem is in relation to his company, Joyce Holdings Ltd. His company was granted
a commercial lease, whereby Mr Joyce acted as a guarantor and guaranteed to take on a new lease of
the premises if the company became insolvent. The company went into administration early this year.
The administrators have vacated the property and ceased to take responsibility or pay rent to the
landlord. They have returned the keys and surrendered the lease for no payment. The landlord has
secured the premises and marketed it receiving no interest. The landlord is now requiring Mr Joyce to
take a new lease of the premises under his guarantee. The second problem concerns his freehold house
in Peterborough. He wishes to let this out to foreign workers (principally but not exclusively) from
Poland. He is not using a letting agent as he has his own source in Poland. He is aware of the
legislative requirements up until the end of 2015 and is unaware of any changes in 2016.

Classroom Philosophy Reflection Paper
Introduction Thinking about how education is taught in schools and all the different pedagogical
practices makes me wonder what these practices are actually fulfilling. There are many different ways
to approach a classroom environment. An individual can look at things from the student s perspective,
the teacher s perspectives, or just the way the classroom functions altogether. I reflect on when I was
in high school and, after learning in detail about all of these pedagogies, I can easily say that the
classrooms I was taught in were combinations of multiple pedagogies. I believe as someone becoming
a teacher we need to refine how the classroom should be run, and what the student and teacher s role
should be. I think we need to shift our focus to an open minded and open environment pedagogy. I
mean this in the sense that the environment should be an open place, a safe haven, the students can
speak their minds and beliefs freely. I myself too many times have been in a classroom where I have
felt restricted, bounded and unable to voice what I believe in because of the way the classroom was
run. Along with this, we need to be open minded in the sense of viewing things from multiple
perspectives and allowing the student to soar beyond the topic that is presented to them. I feel as
though too many teachers close the door to exploring and thinking out of the box in fear of what it
might bring and that I way I believe in an open classroom pedagogy.

Quotes In The Handmaids Tale
Behold my maid Bilhah, go in unto her; and she shall bear upon my knees, that I may also have
children by her ( Genesis 30:1 2). In the beginning of the science fiction novel, The Handmaid s Tale,
Margaret Atwood introduces her book with five different quotes. Every quote relates to what is going
to occur in the novel. Atwood uses this quote at the beginning of the novel to foreshadow that certain
characters in the novel will be forced to fulfill certain roles. In the novel, The Handmaid s Tale, the
actions of Offred and the willingness of people of Gilead to accede roles they are not satisfied with,
shows how fear of exile leads to destruction of morals. In the novel The Handmaid s Tale, Offred s

Faith And Transformation After Christ s Resurrection
Faith and Transformation after Christ s Resurrection Jesus Christ death and resurrection is important
to teach and prepare the people. There were so many insecurities and fears the people had about death
and some even felt unworthy to die innocent. After Jesus came here to simply eliminate the lies that
the world has conceived regarding the body and where the soul would end. Scholars believed in
reincarnation like Josephus, who called it transmigration. Others like the Pharisee s , they believed in
the resurrection and thought the soul of the righteous lives on in a new body and the wicked souls
perish. Paul of Tarsus explains, in (1 Cor 15:40 44) that there are two bodies a heavenly body and an
earthly body. They laid Christ s dead body into the tomb with dishonor and he raised in glory his risen
body from the dead. In another way to explain a believer in the resurrection of a body without their
full understanding, according to Klawans Josephus write, a Maccabean martyr looked at his hands and
spoke , I hope to get these hands back again (pg.108 Josephus Theologies), meaning when he dies he
wanted to return in the same body in which he had his faith in. At that moment, the martyr could have
begun to believe in Christ s words, explained that the resurrected body is not like the first, Mark 14:58

Planet Of The Apes Film Analysis
Beginning a theme of taking older films and recreating them in his own style, Planet of the Apes was
based off Pierre Boulle s 1963 novel and a 1968 film version. The premise was about an American
man that landed on a planet ruled by apes, which was released in 2001. Although the film has a rather
shaky reputation, it forever changed Burton s life. While filming, actress Helena Bonham Carter, who
was playing one of the lead characters, caught Tim s eye. The two would later start a professional
relationship, with her starring in many of his films like Depp, as well as a personal relationship.
Although they never married, they lived like had and they have two children together; Billy Raymond

Personally, I believe the reason is the same as to why so many people love him and his films. He s
different, and in a very good, yet odd way. Nobody has really seen anything like what he has
envisioned and brought to the table. Not only is he extremely unique, but he is also very relatable to
anyone who has ever felt like an outsider or that they were weird or even rejected by the world. In this
way, his audience can really connect with his films, even though they are out of this world
imaginative. Honestly, Burton is my all time favorite director, and for the same reasons as anyone else,
I can identify with his art. One person s craziness is another person s reality he has said. Not all of his
work is mind blowing or even amazing, but you can t deny that when you watch one of his films you
feel just a little bit transported to another world. He has transformed modern cinema with his
Burtonesque style and has also inspired many other directors, actors, artists, films, and shows. He s
also given actors dozens of opportunities to start up and expand their careers. Maybe his films aren t
everybody s cup of tea , but there s just no denying his glittering talent. It is inspiring to see someone
come from such a rough beginning to come out on top, giving hope to many. Tim Burton has truly left
his stamp on the world of film, as I believe to be one of history s best directors, and changed the world
of cinema and art

Library Donation Books
This summer I spent hours on the library s third floor, a large area used for storage since the 1970 s;
no air conditioning but lots of dust. I sorted through 177 boxes of books that were donated to the
library. Library staff are not following the current donation policy and all donated books are given to
the Friends Book Sale. Many books in my Adult Fiction section are in well loved condition with water
damage, broken spines and torn pages. Sorting through the boxes led to the addition of 300 adult
fiction titles not owed by the library, example added a new copy of Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz. The
donation books were used to replace 450 loved books with newer copies, example replaced a water
damaged, broken spine copy of The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah with a brand new copy. My
frustration leads me to search for information about how to handle book donations in a public library. I
searched the Library and Information Source link on Clarion s online library page using the term
handling gift or donated books . I selected Kay Ann Cassell s article Handling gift books in libraries: A
view from the US. Cassell s article provides an overview of guidelines to be used in creating a gift

With debates among several people concerning which movie was the better one, it s fair to say that
High School Musical is the more popular choice, yet Camp Rock is the most inspirational of these
two. Camp Rock is a demonstration for a younger audience to become aware of being who they are
made to be. It is great to show the younger audience self confidence and faith for themselves. High
School Musical portrays similar messages, but Camp Rock has the better meaning. There are going to

The european honey bee (Apis mellifera), also known as the western honey bee, are naturally
occurring in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Due to the species invasive nature, they now occupy
every continent on Earth except Antarctica. The european honey bee was domesticated and introduced
to North America with the purpose of human assistance. With the species wide cultivation, the
european honey bee rapidly became the most important pollinator for agriculture globally. Positive
effects of the western honey bee on the environment include pollination to increase crop yield and
quality. For example, in regions such as North America and Australia with no native honey bees, the
effect of pollination on the native flowers and other pollinators can be drastic causing bountiful
growth. Without the european honey bee, the plants would have decreased fertility. The european
honey bee also provides benefits to forests and plant clusters by introducing biodiversity. Plant

Slavery And Canadian Identity
I think when Canada stopped slavery first it shows that Canada new everyone should be treated fairly
and everyone should have equal rights. Also this shows that Canada has pride for the people living in
Canada. If Canada had not stopped slavery first than the population in Canada would be low and also
Canada won t look like a good place for people to live in because of the time. That is why this event
really contributes to Canadian identity.
I think when Chinese immigrants were hoping to find a new life in Canada it contributes to the
Canadian identity because they thought that Canada is a great place to live in and they were willing to
be welcome in Canada because they were hoping to have a better life. When they got here, they

Analysis Of The Film Bears Discover Fire
The film Bears Discover Fire written by Terry Bisson is a film that was produced by college students.
This film covers many different controversial topics. The book allows for many different perceptions
of these topics to be seen.. Although the title of the film has a scientific feeling, it is more of a fantasy
than a science fiction film. In the film Bears Discover fire one may interpret the movie as more of a
fantasy film, with that being said the elements of a fantasy story base line can be perceived in a much
bigger picture. In the film Bears Discover Fire one may preserve the film as fansty. In the film, there
are parts of the story line that truly cannot happen during this time on earth. For example, when the
bears are standing upright. In this scene one may think to themselves that this is something that can/
will not happen. Today s bears are not capable of standing upright and walking. Another example of a
fantasy can be seen when the bears are walking around with fire. This scene shows signs of a fantasy
because, a normal bear would not be capable of walking around with fire in their paws and setting up
campfires. A final example of a fantasy in the film can be seen when, the grandma, Junior and Bobby
are having a campfire with the bears in the woods. This is a scene that one might fantasize over. That
is because it is not normal for humans to be close to a live bear and simple have a campfire with them.
At this point a normal bear would have been frightened

Car yard business: (1 paragraph)
Within Australia, majority of population will need vehicles as transportation. Therefore, many people
purchased cars from licensed car dealerships, private owner, online or at an auction. According to
Anglo (2013), most of the car dealership in Australia provides legal protection such applying warranty
for 3 months. In additional to this, many car dealerships has the accurate documents and history of
their vehicles, therefore it is far more reliable to purchase car from a car dealership. Recently, Rezek s
(2012) article states that over the past three to four years, the Australian used car businesses have
experienced vital changes with its trading trends. The price of a vehicle is to a large extent determined
by supply and demand. Whilst this information is true for the price of a vehicle, the profit of vehicles
is to some extent determined by the buying. With the arrival of private sellers, both buying and selling
has extremely become more challenging (Rezek, 2012). Many people believe that the internet has
affected their profits however those that have used it have expressed a high level of success with it.
This is because it provides greater opportunities to increase its customer base and promote its product.
It can provide a cost effective form of marketing and means to access more customers. Others have

Salmonella Of Salmonella And Enteritidis
Salmonella is a communicable disease that is caused by the salmonella enterica bacterium. There are
many types of this bacteria including salmonella Typhimurium and Enteritidis. Salmonella is most
common in young children and elderly who have impaired immune systems meaning they are more
likely to contract infections. Salmonella is one of the most reported causes of food poisoning in the
UK.
Types:
All types of salmonella come from the genus Salmonella, the bacteria then gets divided up into
categories. The majority of the components in each bacteria are about 95% identical for example E.
coli and Salmonella are around 60% identical at the DNA level.
There are 3 main serovars of salmonella; Typhimurium, Typhi and Enteritidis. A serovar is a distinct
variation of a bacteria and are classed together based upon their similarities. The distinct types help
the scientists create effective treatment to target the certain type of salmonella, which makes the
treatment more effective because it distinguishes the exact strain of salmonella to cure it.
Biological structure:
This biological structure of a salmonella bacteria contains; ribosomes, cytoplasm, bacterial flagellum,
mesosome, cell wall, and a plasma membrane.
Ribosomes This is a tiny particle made up from RNA and a large number of proteins found in the

Women In Sixteenth Century Verona
Smith argues that the gendered domestic spaces, both the idealistic and realistic, of sixteenth century
Verona shows the influence of women on the Renaissance material culture. Smith chose to focus on
Verona and the sixteenth century because although they were behind in their palace building Verona
has more documents pertaining to movable wealth. Women in this time were becoming wealthier
because of large dowries and increasingly being named in wills of family members, contributing to the
movable wealth. The growing wealth of women led to numerous treatises being written on domestic

The Cultural Tradition Of Bodily Adornment
In Russia, the typical greeting is a firm, almost bone crushing handshake. It is also important to
maintain direct eye contact. When a man shakes hands with a woman, the handshake is less firm.
When greeting each other, it is normal for women to kiss each other three times, while alternating
cheeks. This form of greeting is influenced by social histories. The Karen Pa Dong Hill tribe is
probably most recognized by its cultural tradition of bodily adornment. Pa Dong means someone who
wears brass rings. It is thought that the tribe s custom of elongating necks through the wearing of brass
rings stems from myths. The most popular myth states that the headman of the tribe had a dream in
which a tiger was about to attack and kill one of the most popular children in the village. Since tigers
always kill their victims by first breaking their necks, the headman decreed that all children must wear
heavy brass rings around their necks to protect them. Since the tiger attack never came to pass, it was
thought that the wearing of brass rings worked and protected them. Wearing brass neck rings is
considered to be a beautiful form of bodily adornment that stems from their cultural group histories.

White Privilege Vs White Privilege
White privilege and black privilege
As I start to type this paper I really don t know how to start. It took me the day before my first draft is
due to start writing. Not because I was lazy and waited last minute, but because this is such a touchy
subject to speak on.(6) I was sitting there at the kitchen table with my mom asking her what I should
and shouldn t say. She told me, Danielle you don t need to worry about what you should or shouldn t
say. You need to be real about white privilege and just address it. If people don t know that being
white STILL is a privilege in 2017, then honey they re not living in the real world. What is white
privilege? It s the level of societal advantage that comes with being seen as the norm in America,
automatically conferred irrespective of wealth, gender or other factors. It makes life smoother, but it s
something you would barely notice unless it were suddenly taken away or unless it had never applied
to you in the first place. (Emba.) White privilege is the norm to a lot of my fellow peers have and don
t even realize it. An example would be that it s not likely that store security or law enforcement
officers harass them, pull them over or follow them because of the color of their skin tone.
A mythical concept, black people do not have black privilege. Literally the only things black people
can do that white people can t are: say the n word, benefit from affirmative action (but trump is in the
process of removing that).

Macroeconomics 2 Episode 2
Episode 2: Scarcity and Choice https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yoVc_S_gd_0 At the beginning of
the video Dr. Mary McGlasson says that two things are true about every single person regardless of
their race, religion, and even income; which are that everyone has unlimited wants, and that everyone
has limited resources, and even if individuals were to satisfy some wants, other wants would arise
eventually. Furthermore, she defines scarcity as something that happens when there is not enough
resources, or services to satisfy everyone s wants, at a price zero, and thus price tags come around.
With this in mind, she said that a drawback of the system of charging for the scarce resources is that
the rich are the one s capable of acquiring more of those resources, leaving the poor in great
disadvantage. Dr. Mary states that if something has a price it s because that product or good is scarce,
however water is an examples of a resource that does not have a deliberate monetary price, yet it is
scarce in some places. She ends her video by re stating that Economics is the study of choices made

Anaylsis of Forrest Gump Essay
Anaylsis of Forrest Gump There is a huge difference between very bad movies and very good ones.
That s because films can be on either side of the quality scale. A good movie has the ability to burrow
deep into the subconscious, with unpredictable and occasional remarkable results. A great work of art
can cause euphoria, touch a deep emotional chord, or, in rare cases effect fundamental changes in a
persons outlook on life. A movie that can do all of the above and more is
Forrest Gump. Forrest Gump is a movie with a great cast, a good moral lesson and a refreshing

Robin Wright plays the adult part of Jenny Curran, Forrest s best friend and the love of his life. Jenny
is never far from Forrest s thoughts, no matter what he is doing or where he is. There are many other
secondary actors that help create the magical moments of the movie. There is nothing better than a
movie that reaffirms our morals and Forrest Gump does exactly this. Forest Gump goes from a star
football player, a war hero, a successful business man to something of a pop icon. During his thirty
year period we see him give back to the community. He never forgets his friends and always helps
them out in every way possible. He puts the safety of others before his, like we see in the war scene,
when he keeps coming back for the others even when it meant putting his life in danger. It reminds us
that we should sometimes put others before ourselves. This movie also helps us to remember that we
have to do things for the love of doing them not only for the money, like in one of the scenes when
Forrest has become a millionaire but keeps cutting grass because he loves doing it. Forrest Gump has
several messages that help us refresh out outlook on life, some of which are less obvious than others.
But the most frequently recurring theme is an admonition not to give up on life. Forrest shows us how
the passage of time brings solace to even the most embittered hearts. His

After, iron tools were invented, which started increasing the human densities in forest zones (Barnes,
179). According to Barnes, human densities were low until the16th century, right before iron tools
were seen (Barnes, 179). These tools helped farmer clear their way in the forests, making it easier for
them to farm (Barnes, 179). After the ivory demand from the Roman s, the Chinese started doing the
same thing, demanding for ivory which is still currently growing (Barnes, 178, Gao Clark, 23).
In more recent years, the ivory used has expanded in China (Gao Clark, 24). The most common way
ivory is used in China is for carving as a traditional art (Gao Clark, 24). Ivory carving wasn t well
known in the Chinese culture until later in the 1950 s, when ivory factories started establishing (Gao
Clark, 24). Afterwards, ivory carving became a major foreign currency generating industry in cities
around China (Gao Clark, 24). The industries failed a little after the Cultural Revolution that occurred
in the years between 1966 and 1976 (Gao Clark, 24). Ivory is used in many things but the most
common way the Chinese culture uses it is by the following: figuring, ornaments, scholar s articles,
and vessels (Gao Clark, 24).
As ivory started to get popular in the Chinese culture, new stores started selling ivory. In around 1936,
there has been calculated around 126 ivory facilities in Da Xin (Gao Clark, 24). Da Xin is an ivory

The Pros And Cons Of Malcolm X
Throughout our nation s history, people have been doing things, both significant and unnoticed, to
promote change in our country. Some of the earliest activists were those living in America and
attacking British tax collectors to oppose the British reign in America clear up until the United States
of America decided to part from the King all together. Later there were individuals like Harriet
Tubman, who wanted to bring an end to slavery and contributed to the cause by helping slaves escape
from their plantations. Regardless of the time period or the cause for the activists, those individuals
are still an important part of the country. It is important that we continue to have activists who stand
up for what they believe in, in order to get change to occur in the way the government handles certain
issues. A lesser known modern activist, Kirsten Gillibrand, is continuing to stand up for what she ...

Malcolm X was born Malcolm Little, but decided to change his name at some point because he
considered his last name to be a slave name and wanted to change that piece of his family s history.
Malcolm was passionate about his cause, to say the least, and believed that only black people could
change their unequal fate in America. Due to that philosophy, Malcolm did not allow for whites to
help his Black Power party in any way, shape, or form. Malcolm also believed that black individuals
should protect their rights by any means necessary and that inflicting violence was acceptable because
it was for the cause. He was into focusing on religions for his background philosophy and even
ditched the concept of racism when he found the Black Muslim religion did not support it. He was
shot at one of his rallies, but he was fully aware that he was not liked by everyone and that his life
would be cut short by something like

Grunnings In The Potter
Mr. and Mrs. Dursley, of number four, Privet Drive, were proud to say that they were perfectly
normal, thank you very much. They were the last people you d expect to be involved in anything
strange or mysterious, because they just didn t hold with such nonsense. Mr. Dursley was the director
of a firm called Grunnings, which made drills. He was a big, beefy man with hardly any neck,
although he did have a very large mustache. Mrs. Dursley was thin and blonde and had nearly twice
the usual amount of neck, which came in very useful as she spent so much of her time craning over
garden fences, spying on the neighbors. The Dursleys had a small son called Dudley and in their
opinion there was no finer boy anywhere. The Dursleys had everything they ... Show more content on

Mrs. Potter was Mrs. Dursley s sister, but they hadn t met for several years; in fact, Mrs. Dursley
pretended she didn t have a sister, because her sister and her good for nothing husband were as
unDursleyish as it was possible to be. The Dursleys shuddered to think what the neighbors would say
if the Potters arrived in the street. The Dursleys knew that the Potters had a small son, too, but they
had never even seen him. This boy was another good reason for keeping the Potters away; they didn t
want Dudley mixing with a child like that. When Mr. and Mrs. Dursley woke up on the dull, gray
Tuesday our story starts, there was nothing about the cloudy sky outside to suggest that strange and
mysterious things would soon be happening all over the country. Mr. Dursley hummed as he picked
out his most boring tie for work, and Mrs. Dursley gossiped away happily as she wrestled a screaming
Dudley into his high chair. None of them noticed a large, tawny owl flutter past the window. At half
past eight, Mr. Dursley picked up his briefcase, pecked Mrs. Dursley on the cheek, and tried to kiss
Dudley good bye but missed, because Dudley was now having a tantrum and throwing his cereal at

Analysis Of On The Subway
Jake Lipschutz Lipschutz 1
Ms. Kristen
ENGL 101
17 September 2015
Textual Analysis Essay #1
Sharon Olds, poet of on the subway depicts a situation where a white female makes observations and
internal thoughts about a black male that she witnesses on a subway that Olds describes as
representing tension between the white and black races. The black teenage male possibly portrays not
just one black teen, but the entire race as a whole. He represents the entire race. Olds uses
enjambments, powerful imagery, as well as figurative language, specifically metaphors, in order to
point out the stereotypical differences and tensions between races in today s community and the bigger
picture of the common stereotype of Caucasian people being above the African American people on
the socio economic ladder. Her forceful tone reflects the severity and prevalence of this harsh
commonly seen contrast between the two races.
Enjambments can be utilized for a variety of different reasons in order to change the way the reader
analyzes and thinks about the poem. A basic reason to use enjambments would be to make the lines of
the poem look more even, but in this poem they are used for a little more reasoning. One example of a
critical and essential enjambment in the poem that helps Olds prove her purpose exists when she says I
am / living off his life (18 19). This really

Essay on Reconstruction and Industrialization
Reconstruction and Industrialization After the Civil War, the nation witnessed two major social
economic movements: Reconstruction and Industrialization, which changed the country completely
and made it one of the greatest industrialized countries in the world. However, it changed not only the
country, but also, the society, its way of life and traditions. The effort to rebuild the southern states and
restore the Union was known as Reconstruction, a period that lasted from 1865 to 1877. Several
different plans for Reconstruction emerged during and after the war. Much debate about differing
plans centered on who would control Reconstruction the President or Congress. Lincoln had wanted to
adopt a mild and forgiving policy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition to addressing several civil rights issues, the amendment prohibited many former
Confederate officers and government officials from voting. This period of Radical Reconstruction did
not bring much change in the South. Although blacks began to participate in political life, they met
tremendous hostility. Some Southern whites adopted a policy of terror to keep the freedmen from
becoming too independent. Because blacks had no jobs or land they became sharecroppers in a kind of
economic slavery. Grant won election in 1868, and Congress became free to follow its Radical
Reconstruction policies. It successfully proposed the Fourteenth and the Fifteenth Amendments.
However, a major depression occurred in 1873. In addition, public attention was diverted by the graft
and corruption in President Grant s cabinet. Corruption in the Grant administration weakened the
political strength of the Republican Party. In addition, by the early 1870s, all but a handful former
Confederates could vote again. Most of these white southern males now voted Democratic in reaction
to Radical Republican Reconstruction. For most of the next century, the Democratic party would
dominate voting in the South, giving rise to the term solid South. The emergence of the solid South
gave the Democrats greater power in politics at the national level. In 1876, Democrats nominated
Tilden, the governor of New York, to run for President against

  • 2. Southwest Airlines Hub Capacity And Congestion Management Giancarlo Villafaña Southwest Airlines Hub Capacity and Congestion Management ASCI602 The Air Transportation System 06 June 2015 Abstract Southwest Airlines shot out of the gates, much to the chagrin of their competitors as a short haul, low fare, and high frequency carrier. As SWA expanded and deregulation occurred, they had to decide what kind of airline they wanted to be and how they would adapt to the changing environment. The FAA reports that passenger numbers are expected to reach a billion passengers in 2023 (FAA, 2011). Most Airlines are responding to the increased demand by centralizing and consolidating their assets. This in turn creates a situation where capacity is maximized in some airports and congestion increases causing significant delay. Demand will continue to rise over the next few decades and these airlines must rely on regulators and policy makers to upgrade the very necessary infrastructure and technology. Southwest s strategy is to remain a point to point carrier instead of the traditional hub and spoke carrier, satisfying their customer demand with lower congestion at underutilized airports with more flights. However Southwest continues to remain flexible looking forward as it adopts hub and spoke techniques, coordinates with the FAA and governing bodies, and invests heavily in its most important airports to stay ahead of the pack. In the early seventies, SWA was begun by a couple of innovators in Teas, Rollin King and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The law supports the claim that employees have a right to access employees emails, although most employees are of the opinion that their employers should not access their emails. The courts have not found any reasonable expectation for the employees to have privacy in the same and therefore, they have always granted permission to the employers to keep an eye on the employees activities as well as reviewing it. In a case of Smith v. Pillsbury Co., the plaintiff had sued the employer on the ground that he had wrongfully discharged him after the employer intercepted an email message he considered inappropriate (Jennings, 2005). Smith being an at will kind of employee, his suit centered on whether by being discharged, it went against Pennsylvania s public policy thereby falling into the exemption under the general rule which indicate that employees who are employed on the at will basis can have their employment terminated any time. The defendant was given motion from dismissal of the case since it failed to state a claim. The employer was therefore found not guilty of either invading the employees privacy or violating public policy when he terminated smith (Wolkinson Block, 1996). Oriental women have long been fetishized into a stereotype; they are depicted as submissive and passive, and are silenced by the double pressure from race and sex , Oriental woman, as Said (1979) states in Orientalism, is usually viewed ―with sexist blinders and serves as ―the creatures of a male power fantasy and Asians as a whole are considered to be inferior and emasculated, easy targets for exploitations and dominance. • 19. Classroom Philosophy Reflection Paper Introduction Thinking about how education is taught in schools and all the different pedagogical practices makes me wonder what these practices are actually fulfilling. There are many different ways to approach a classroom environment. An individual can look at things from the student s perspective, the teacher s perspectives, or just the way the classroom functions altogether. I reflect on when I was in high school and, after learning in detail about all of these pedagogies, I can easily say that the classrooms I was taught in were combinations of multiple pedagogies. I believe as someone becoming a teacher we need to refine how the classroom should be run, and what the student and teacher s role should be. I think we need to shift our focus to an open minded and open environment pedagogy. I mean this in the sense that the environment should be an open place, a safe haven, the students can speak their minds and beliefs freely. I myself too many times have been in a classroom where I have felt restricted, bounded and unable to voice what I believe in because of the way the classroom was run. Along with this, we need to be open minded in the sense of viewing things from multiple perspectives and allowing the student to soar beyond the topic that is presented to them. I feel as though too many teachers close the door to exploring and thinking out of the box in fear of what it might bring and that I way I believe in an open classroom pedagogy. There were so many insecurities and fears the people had about death and some even felt unworthy to die innocent. After Jesus came here to simply eliminate the lies that the world has conceived regarding the body and where the soul would end. Paul of Tarsus explains, in (1 Cor 15:40 44) that there are two bodies a heavenly body and an earthly body. They laid Christ s dead body into the tomb with dishonor and he raised in glory his risen body from the dead. In another way to explain a believer in the resurrection of a body without their full understanding, according to Klawans Josephus write, a Maccabean martyr looked at his hands and spoke , I hope to get these hands back again (pg.108 Josephus Theologies), meaning when he dies he wanted to return in the same body in which he had his faith in. Planet Of The Apes Film Analysis Beginning a theme of taking older films and recreating them in his own style, Planet of the Apes was based off Pierre Boulle s 1963 novel and a 1968 film version. The premise was about an American man that landed on a planet ruled by apes, which was released in 2001. Although the film has a rather shaky reputation, it forever changed Burton s life. While filming, actress Helena Bonham Carter, who was playing one of the lead characters, caught Tim s eye. The two would later start a professional relationship, with her starring in many of his films like Depp, as well as a personal relationship. Personally, I believe the reason is the same as to why so many people love him and his films. He s different, and in a very good, yet odd way. Nobody has really seen anything like what he has envisioned and brought to the table. Not only is he extremely unique, but he is also very relatable to anyone who has ever felt like an outsider or that they were weird or even rejected by the world. In this way, his audience can really connect with his films, even though they are out of this world imaginative. Honestly, Burton is my all time favorite director, and for the same reasons as anyone else, I can identify with his art. One person s craziness is another person s reality he has said. Not all of his work is mind blowing or even amazing, but you can t deny that when you watch one of his films you feel just a little bit transported to another world. He has transformed modern cinema with his Burtonesque style and has also inspired many other directors, actors, artists, films, and shows. He s also given actors dozens of opportunities to start up and expand their careers. Maybe his films aren t everybody s cup of tea , but there s just no denying his glittering talent. It is inspiring to see someone come from such a rough beginning to come out on top, giving hope to many. • 23. Library Donation Books This summer I spent hours on the library s third floor, a large area used for storage since the 1970 s; no air conditioning but lots of dust. I sorted through 177 boxes of books that were donated to the library. Library staff are not following the current donation policy and all donated books are given to the Friends Book Sale. Many books in my Adult Fiction section are in well loved condition with water damage, broken spines and torn pages. Sorting through the boxes led to the addition of 300 adult fiction titles not owed by the library, example added a new copy of Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz. The donation books were used to replace 450 loved books with newer copies, example replaced a water damaged, broken spine copy of The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah with a brand new copy. My frustration leads me to search for information about how to handle book donations in a public library. I searched the Library and Information Source link on Clarion s online library page using the term handling gift or donated books . I selected Kay Ann Cassell s article Handling gift books in libraries: A view from the US. Cassell s article provides an overview of guidelines to be used in creating a gift book policy. • 31. Analysis Of The Film Bears Discover Fire The film Bears Discover Fire written by Terry Bisson is a film that was produced by college students. This film covers many different controversial topics. The book allows for many different perceptions of these topics to be seen.. Although the title of the film has a scientific feeling, it is more of a fantasy than a science fiction film. In the film Bears Discover fire one may interpret the movie as more of a fantasy film, with that being said the elements of a fantasy story base line can be perceived in a much bigger picture. In the film Bears Discover Fire one may preserve the film as fansty. In the film, there are parts of the story line that truly cannot happen during this time on earth. For example, when the bears are standing upright. In this scene one may think to themselves that this is something that can/ will not happen. Today s bears are not capable of standing upright and walking. Another example of a fantasy can be seen when the bears are walking around with fire. This scene shows signs of a fantasy because, a normal bear would not be capable of walking around with fire in their paws and setting up campfires. A final example of a fantasy in the film can be seen when, the grandma, Junior and Bobby are having a campfire with the bears in the woods. This is a scene that one might fantasize over. • 36. The Cultural Tradition Of Bodily Adornment In Russia, the typical greeting is a firm, almost bone crushing handshake. It is also important to maintain direct eye contact. When a man shakes hands with a woman, the handshake is less firm. When greeting each other, it is normal for women to kiss each other three times, while alternating cheeks. This form of greeting is influenced by social histories. The Karen Pa Dong Hill tribe is probably most recognized by its cultural tradition of bodily adornment. Pa Dong means someone who wears brass rings. It is thought that the tribe s custom of elongating necks through the wearing of brass rings stems from myths. The most popular myth states that the headman of the tribe had a dream in which a tiger was about to attack and kill one of the most popular children in the village. Since tigers always kill their victims by first breaking their necks, the headman decreed that all children must wear heavy brass rings around their necks to protect them. Since the tiger attack never came to pass, it was thought that the wearing of brass rings worked and protected them. Wearing brass neck rings is considered to be a beautiful form of bodily adornment that stems from their cultural group histories. Islamic weddings are immersed in cultural traditions and rituals. Macroeconomics 2 Episode 2 Episode 2: Scarcity and Choice https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yoVc_S_gd_0 At the beginning of the video Dr. Mary McGlasson says that two things are true about every single person regardless of their race, religion, and even income; which are that everyone has unlimited wants, and that everyone has limited resources, and even if individuals were to satisfy some wants, other wants would arise eventually. Furthermore, she defines scarcity as something that happens when there is not enough resources, or services to satisfy everyone s wants, at a price zero, and thus price tags come around. With this in mind, she said that a drawback of the system of charging for the scarce resources is that the rich are the one s capable of acquiring more of those resources, leaving the poor in great disadvantage. Dr. Mary states that if something has a price it s because that product or good is scarce, however water is an examples of a resource that does not have a deliberate monetary price, yet it is scarce in some places. They were the last people you d expect to be involved in anything strange or mysterious, because they just didn t hold with such nonsense. Mr. Dursley was the director of a firm called Grunnings, which made drills. He was a big, beefy man with hardly any neck, although he did have a very large mustache. Mrs. Dursley was thin and blonde and had nearly twice the usual amount of neck, which came in very useful as she spent so much of her time craning over garden fences, spying on the neighbors. The Dursleys had a small son called Dudley and in their opinion there was no finer boy anywhere. The Dursleys had everything they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mrs. Potter was Mrs. Dursley s sister, but they hadn t met for several years; in fact, Mrs. Dursley pretended she didn t have a sister, because her sister and her good for nothing husband were as unDursleyish as it was possible to be. The Dursleys shuddered to think what the neighbors would say if the Potters arrived in the street. The Dursleys knew that the Potters had a small son, too, but they had never even seen him. This boy was another good reason for keeping the Potters away; they didn t want Dudley mixing with a child like that. When Mr. and Mrs. Dursley woke up on the dull, gray Tuesday our story starts, there was nothing about the cloudy sky outside to suggest that strange and mysterious things would soon be happening all over the country. Mr. Dursley hummed as he picked out his most boring tie for work, and Mrs. Dursley gossiped away happily as she wrestled a screaming Dudley into his high chair. None of them noticed a large, tawny owl flutter past the window. At half past eight, Mr. Dursley picked up his briefcase, pecked Mrs. Dursley on the cheek, and tried to kiss Dudley good bye but missed, because Dudley was now having a tantrum and throwing his cereal at the ... Analysis Of On The Subway Jake Lipschutz Lipschutz 1 Ms. Kristen ENGL 101 17 September 2015 Textual Analysis Essay #1 Sharon Olds, poet of on the subway depicts a situation where a white female makes observations and internal thoughts about a black male that she witnesses on a subway that Olds describes as representing tension between the white and black races. The black teenage male possibly portrays not just one black teen, but the entire race as a whole. He represents the entire race. Olds uses enjambments, powerful imagery, as well as figurative language, specifically metaphors, in order to point out the stereotypical differences and tensions between races in today s community and the bigger picture of the common stereotype of Caucasian people being above the African American people on the socio economic ladder. Her forceful tone reflects the severity and prevalence of this harsh commonly seen contrast between the two races. Enjambments can be utilized for a variety of different reasons in order to change the way the reader analyzes and thinks about the poem. A basic reason to use enjambments would be to make the lines of the poem look more even, but in this poem they are used for a little more reasoning. One example of a critical and essential enjambment in the poem that helps Olds prove her purpose exists when she says I am / living off his life (18 19). This really ... • 49. Essay on Reconstruction and Industrialization Reconstruction and Industrialization After the Civil War, the nation witnessed two major social economic movements: Reconstruction and Industrialization, which changed the country completely and made it one of the greatest industrialized countries in the world. However, it changed not only the country, but also, the society, its way of life and traditions. The effort to rebuild the southern states and restore the Union was known as Reconstruction, a period that lasted from 1865 to 1877. Several different plans for Reconstruction emerged during and after the war. Much debate about differing plans centered on who would control Reconstruction the President or Congress. Lincoln had wanted to adopt a mild and forgiving policy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition to addressing several civil rights issues, the amendment prohibited many former Confederate officers and government officials from voting. This period of Radical Reconstruction did not bring much change in the South. Although blacks began to participate in political life, they met tremendous hostility. Some Southern whites adopted a policy of terror to keep the freedmen from becoming too independent. Because blacks had no jobs or land they became sharecroppers in a kind of economic slavery. Grant won election in 1868, and Congress became free to follow its Radical Reconstruction policies. It successfully proposed the Fourteenth and the Fifteenth Amendments. However, a major depression occurred in 1873. In addition, public attention was diverted by the graft and corruption in President Grant s cabinet. Corruption in the Grant administration weakened the political strength of the Republican Party. In addition, by the early 1870s, all but a handful former Confederates could vote again. Most of these white southern males now voted Democratic in reaction to Radical Republican Reconstruction. For most of the next century, the Democratic party would dominate voting in the South, giving rise to the term solid South. The emergence of the solid South gave the Democrats greater power in politics at the national level. In 1876, Democrats nominated Tilden, the governor of New York, to run for President against ...
