Medtronic Case Study
Harvard Business School 9 698 004 July 8, 1997 We ve Got Rhythm! Medtronic Corporation s
Cardiac Pacemaker Business The legacy of Medtronic Corporation, the company that created the
cardiac pacemaker industry, is a proud one. Starting from its earliest pacemakers, which had to be
carried outside the body, Medtronic had achieved dramatic improvements in the functionality, size and
reliability of these devices. In so doing it had extended the lives, and improved the quality of life, for
hundreds of thousands of people in whom pacemakers had been implanted. The pacemaker has been
designated as one of the ten most outstanding engineering achievements in the world over the past 50
years, along with the digital computer and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Several key employees left the company, seeing greater opportunity to develop their new pacemaker
product ideas in new start ups rather than within Medtronic. These competitors proved much faster
than Medtronic at developing new products that advanced the state of the art in pacemaking.
Medtronic was also pummeled by two major product recalls related to product quality problems.
Observers felt the company would have lost even more of the market during this period, were it not
for its strong worldwide salesforce and the lingering legacy of its brand reputation amongst surgeons,
the primary customer group. 1 This citation was made by the National Society of Professional

Color In Ex Machina
Akhil John

Humanities 200

Ex Machina: The role of Color The movie Ex Machina directed by Alex Garland portrayed what true
artificial intelligence would be like and how that would affect the human race. Garland s work with Ex
Machina painted a picture on what true Artificial Intelligence would be like, a self aware, thinking,
manipulative robot that have traits highly resembling human traits and character that highly resembles
human character. Garland uses color in very subtle ways to add to the complexity of his masterpiece
making his movie have deeper meaning. In the movie Garland uses color, in order to convey the
traditional expressions of each character and the plot as a whole. The use of the color of t shirt a caleb
is wearing at a certain point brings about the detail in his feelings and the expression he has. For
instance Caleb initially is seen to wear a blue and red t shirt. The juxtaposition of red and blue which
is seen throughout the film highlights to what extent a character feels uncertain and anxious. This is
evident as after Caleb has won the competition , he is unsure how to feel and is nervous. As Caleb gets
the job, he starts wearing a lot of blue toned ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nathan most of the time is shown to wear black clothes which resembles wealth, power and formality.
He is at his most true state when he is wearing black clothes in contrast to when he is wearing grey

is shown wearing white clothes which suggests purity, peace and love when discussing with Caleb
about his research on Ava showing how he is passionate about his work but also shows that he is
playing the role of God creating artificial intelligence. Garland effectively uses color again to
represent the characters and to show the emotional progressions they go

From Mrs. Sen s Assimilation To Western Standards
While most of the stories show how assimilated to western standards can be difficult, Mrs. Sen s is the
most important out of the stories because Mrs. Sen s is reluctant to settle in America, and upholds the
traditions of her life back in Calcutta. When Mrs. Sen came to America, she was astonished by the
lack of care given by everyone else. She asked Elliot that if she began to scream at the top of her
lungs. Would someone come? (6). All she had to do back in India was raise your voice a bit, or
express grief or joy of any kind, and one whole neighborhood and half of another [would] come to
share the news . This shows how Mrs. Sen missed the fact that in India, she was upper class and in
America, she is treated like everyone else. Another

Comparison of the Poems, Two Scavengers and Nothing s Changed
Nothings Changed was written by Tatamkhulu Afrika, a mixed race child with fair skin, who was later
adopted by a white South African family who brought him up as though he was white, and he only
found out about his origins as a teenager. Tatamkhulu lived in a multi cultural area called District Six,
which was destroyed by the white authorities. He feels strongly about this kind of racism towards the
black people despite the fact that he has fair skin. In the actual poem, the poet is telling the story from
his own experiences in first person. Two Scavengers was written by Lawrence Ferlinghetti. The poem
highlights the differences between rich and poor and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The poem doesn t state any other relationships, besides the contrast between the white people and the
black people. This gives me the impression that both sides stick to their own , either due to the partite
or difference of race.
Two Scavengers is set at some traffic lights in downtown San
Francisco at 9am. The whole poem is based around a freeze frame in time. The poet gives very little
description to the setting of the poem, and instead focuses mainly on the two working classes, to get
the point across. Socially, I think the Bin Men, or Garbage Men as they are called in the piece as this
the poet is an American, aren t very well respected compared to the couple in the Mercedes. In the
poem it says, ...and looking down into... as if to say that the Bin Men were looking down on the posh
couple, this is but a bit role reversal between both sides. Bin Men have a lonely, smelly and dark job
and most of the time are seen as stupid people, so therefore are taken advantage of. The poem makes
me think this by saying, Grungy from their route . This particular quote gives us the impression that
their job is very physical, dirty and smelly, which could possibly be linked to the hot climate, which
again could add to the discomfort of the job. The couple in the Mercedes have a respectable job, are
clean and are seen as clever and better off than many. I think this because the poem describes them as
an, elegant couple and cool

Red Figure Volute Krater
From the St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts to the Metropolitan Museum of Arts, this paper will
analysis and compare the visual aspects of the Red Figure Volute Krater (330 320 BCE) and the earlier
Terracotta Krater (750 735 BCE) about their similarities and differences that extend across time.
Along with the two kraters we will also discuss the quality of St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts
environment. The St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts stands out from its surrounding with is
dimensions alone, being only two stories it is dramatically shorter than any other building and its
width covering near a city block makes it wider than any other building in the vicinity. The exterior of
the museum constructed in a similar design to that of Greek ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The size of the krater being the second largest artwork, at approximately thirty inches, in the room
helps it stand out from other pieces, but is still eclipsed by the Terracotta Krater (750 735 BCE) at
approximately forty two inches. Size is not the only thing both kraters share that continued across
time, contrasting colors also prevails in both pieces. The Red Figure Volute Krater (330 320 BCE)
illustrating a white subject against a black background and the Terracotta Krater (750 735 BCE) with
black subjects and yellow or lighter background. Kraters themselves are known to be used to water
down wine, but with the funerary scenes on both kraters they would have been more likely used as
grave markers. The placement of the Red Figure Volute Krater (330 320 BCE) being next to other
grave markers within the museum helps to exemplify this as well as the information label associated
to it. The use of visually encompassing the main figure persisted across time, but with slight
differences. In the Red Figure Volute Krater (330 320 BCE) the main subject is surrounded by a
Naiskos , or funerary shrine, whereas the Terracotta Krater (750 735 BCE) the main subject is covered
or surrounded with burial cloth. Another visual aspect that both kraters have are figures on the
outsides showing respect towards the deceased. On both kraters the figures showing respect are
illustrated as women since in that era men were not to show emotions or attend the funeral. The Red
Figure Volute Krater shows this by the reddish brown figure how women were portrayed and the
Terracotta Krater by small marks indicating breast. Across the length of time, both kraters also have
other commonalities such as the main figure s nudity for their heroism or divinity and the inclusion of
spears and/or war

Stereopsis Impairment
Stereopsis is an impairment that prevents those who have it from seeing clearly. Stereopsis vision can
be described as viewing an image during the presence of aberrations. The apparatus is a tool that can
give the viewer the ability to see one clear image when confronted with images that are shown to be of
slightly different angles. The author of this article believed that if the apparatus can be operated to
converge two images then more information may be obtained relating to the association of binocular
vision and stereopsis impairment. By obtaining this information it is possible that Stereopsis
Impairment can be cured for those who have it. It is important to be able to cure the impairment that
has been affecting lives for years.

Film Analysis Story vs. Film
Film vs. Short Story Analysis The Curious Case of Benjamin Button In reviewing the Paramount film
adaptation of The Curious of Benjamin Button, directed by David Fincher and screenplay by Eric
Roth, with the original story by F. Scott Fitzgerald, one may conclude that there are more differences
than there are similarities. The film version does maintain the main premise of the story, in that, it tells
the tale of a man born old that grew up to be young, a story on aging. I will attempt to provide you
with my view of the two mediums regarding their characters, settings and elements in the film that
enhance or distract from the story. First, let s review the characters in the main story, of which there
are few in the literary story ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The film version contained two mothers , actually; the birth mother who dies giving birth to him that
we later find out was named Caroline, her maiden name being Murphy. We catch a brief glimpse of
her just after the birth when she makes the father promise that Benjamin would have a place in his life.
Of course he is upset and he looks at what may be a monstrosity for a son, blaming the child for her
death and dumps Benjamin on the stairs at the old folk s home where an African American woman,
named Queenie, becomes his surrogate mother. Here is a loving and nurturing individual that raises
him in the film where there is no loving or nurturing female in the literary story. Now in the literary
story Benjamin has a grandfather who at the start was antagonized, became to enjoy his grandson s
company. It is a brief account of his grandfather but a meaningful one as this was the first one who
gave him a sense of acceptance. The film version gave him acceptance through Queenie and we never
get to know a grandfather; though one could say the patrons at the old folk s home could have been
grandparent surrogates for Benjamin. The patrons at the old folks home taught him many things but
his experience living there taught him not to fear death and what loss was about which, in a sense,
desensitized the character so that when Queenie passes he is not visibly upset. The last characters that

Security Dilemm Spiral Model
Security Dilemma (spiral model)
What is a security dilemma ? Does it cause wars? Is the security dilemma confined to international
politics?
Introduction
National security is arguably the primary objective of political leaders and yet conflict and war seems
an inevitable aspect of international politics and thus a dominant theme in IR scholarship. The security
dilemma or so called spiral model is frequently used to explain the escalation of conflict and onset of
war in international politics, particularly paralleling the sequence of events that prompted World War I
and the super power arms race during the Cold War. The question remains, however, as a theoretical
model, does the security dilemma trigger war? Perhaps a more salient question given the rise in ethnic
conflicts and security threats from non state actors since the Cold War is can the security dilemma
literature provide policy relevant guidance of how to deal with these sub state threats to regional and
perhaps international stability?
This response proceeds as follows: First, I define the term security dilemma as well as contextualize
its development within the IR scholarship. Second, I argue, the security dilemma concept coupled with
neorealist theoretical assumptions may indeed perpetuate a hostile international environment, creating
a self fulfilling prophecy effect. Instead, I suggest, the constructivist framework offers much needed
intersubjective understandings and ideational alternatives

Hypercritical Analysis Of Beauty And The Beast
In recent years, Disney has begun concerted efforts to adapt several of their animated classics into live
action movies. Though this move has garnered new interest in the original versions from new
audiences, older audiences that grew up watching these beloved classics have had mixed reactions to
the remakes of their childhood favorites. This year s Beauty and the Beast, an adaptation of the
animated movie of the same name originally released in 1991, was received warmly by nostalgic
audiences, highly criticized by those that disliked the changes to the plot or the casting, and even
boycotted by those that believed there were controversial themes included (Han). Josh Spiegel, co host
of the Mousterpiece Cinema podcast and a member of the Online Film Critics Society (OFCS.org),
was one of the many respected reviewers that disparaged and nitpicked to find fault in the live action
version. While his analysis on Slash Film was well written and contained a few valid points, I
disagreed with much of his Beauty and the Beast movie review. As I read Spiegel s often hypercritical
analysis of the film, I found that my opinions were in direct contrast to many of his points. One such
point of contention was his strongly held belief that including additional backstory to the movie to
provide answers for the previously unanswered questions distracts from the appeal of the mystery
surrounding the unusual circumstances of the plot. He attempts to persuade the reader of his point by

Pietas In Aeneas In The Aeneid
Before Augustus reign began, civil war had ravished the basic principles of the Roman people. Faction
had undermined pietas, the basis of Roman culture and as Cicero defines it, that which warns us to
fulfil our duties towards our country, our parents, or others connected with us by ties of blood (De
Inventione II). The duty towards country, parents and relatives was less of a bond because faction
determined duty rather that pietas. Therefore Rome, a city founded in pietas, was that foundational
principle. Internal faction undermined the principles of pietas and corrupted its role in the city. Rome
required a moral reform of pietas; it needed pietas to refocus the roots of the city. Commissioned by
Augustus, Virgil fashions the Aeneid in order to portray the necessity of pietas. Virgil compares his
work to Homer s and with each comparison of Aeneas with another Greek hero, he emphasises the
pietas within Aeneas. By thus combining the heroism many Greek heroes into Aeneas, Virgil redefines
Greek epic heroism to include pietas. By doing this, Virgil shows that Rome s unification through
pietas harnesses her power. Thus, Virgil unveils to the Romans a virtue which allows each individual
Roman citizen embody and partake in the glory of Rome. Paris, the antagonist of the Trojan war,
embodies and reflects Troy s lack of pietas. When Paris stole Helen, he was Menelaus guest and under
the ancient code of hospitality. However, the abduction of Helen went further than breaking an

Summary Of Parmenide
In just 20 lines in section 11.8 of his poem, Parmenides gives at least three arguments for why what is
is ungenerated. I will present and explain each argument, the first two briefly and the last at more
length because I consider his third argument to be his most comprehensive. Last, I will address his
explanation of why what is is imperishable.
Argument 1.
Any given thing requires a reason to be generated, including what is (supplied)
It makes no sense to say that a reason suddenly existed for what is to be generated (11.8, 9 10)
Therefore what is was not generated (11.8, 11)
This argument takes place in the space of just a few lines, in which Parmenides poses a question what
need would have roused it, later or earlier, to grow, having begun from nothing? (11.8, 9 10). It here
refers to what is. He assumes that everything has a reason to be generated some specific need but he
cannot see why this reason would suddenly appear. The phrase later or earlier might point to how
difficult it is to believe that at an arbitrary moment in time what is suddenly had a reason to spring into
existence. If no such need could have appeared, then what is could not have been generated.
Parmenides applies this argument specifically to what is being generated from what is not, or having
begun from nothing (11.8, 10). And the argument certainly does seem to challenge the idea of
generation from nothing, but I have left it neutral as regards the source of what is in my reconstruction
here. I did this because I believe he can also apply Argument 1 to challenge the idea of generation
from what is, not only from what is not. It should apply to both because the only way to say that what
is is not generated is to show that it is generated from neither what is not, nor what is. More on this in
Argument 3.
Argument 2.
Someone or something must bring any given thing, including what is, into existence (supplied)
No one can make anything come into existence (11.8, 12)
Therefore what is cannot be generated (11.8, 13 14)
This is a difficult argument to suss out, especially since once again it takes place in only three lines.
But he says that the force of conviction cannot make anything come to be out of

Flat Iron Mesa in San Juan County
Flat Iron Mesa is located in the heart of the Moab and Canyonlands area and enters San Juan County.
It is surrounded by the Hatch Wash Canyon to the west and the La Sal mountain range towards the
east. The vast features of the mesa and surrounding canyons demonstrate the remarkable effects of
millions of years of erosion on a landscape of mostly sedimentary rock. The mesa s extensive
landscape is covered with biological soil crust as well as an abundance of ephemeral pools. The
potholes throughout the mesa are naturally occurring basins in deposits of sandstone that progressively
collect rainwater and wind blown sediment which gradually erode the underlying rock; leaving a
series of circular impressions along the mesa s floor. Weathering, geologic processes such as erosion,
and climatic shifts allow for this immense desert ecosystem to continually evolve and change which
has taken place for millions of years. This geologically wealthy environment is composed of
alternating flat lying layers of soft and hard deposits of mostly sedimentary rocks. Interchanging
slopes and cliffs along the landscape helped form these layers of rock which can be seen fully exposed
in areas of the mesa. Deposition of this landscape mainly occurred during the Permian, Pennsylvanian,
Triassic and Jurassic time periods. The assortment of warm hues of sandstone were produced by
varying levels of iron oxide minerals during formation. For hundreds of millions of years, geologic
material

INTRODUCTION
A lease is a contractual arrangement calling for the lessee (user) to pay the lessor(owner) for the use of
an asset. Property, buildings and vehicles are common assets that are leased. Industrial pr business
equipment is also leased
Broadly put, a lease agreement is a contract between two parties, the lessor and the lessee. The lessor
is the legal owner of the asset; the lessee obtains the right to use the asset in return for regular rental
payments. The lessee also agrees to abide by various conditions regarding their use of property or
equipment. For example, a person leasing a car may agree that the car will be only used for personal
use.

Generally the ownership is transferred to the lessee at the end of the economic life of an asset. Lease
term is spread over the major part of the asset life. Here, lessor is only a financer. Example of a
finance lease is big industrial equipment.
On the contrary, in operating lease, risk and rewards are not transferred completely to the lessee. The
term of lease is very small compared to finance lease. The lessor depends on many different lessees
for recovering his cost. Ownership along with its risks and rewards lies with the lessor. Here, the
lessor is not only acting as a financer but he also provides additional services required in the course of
using the asset or equipment. Example of an operating lease is music system leased on rent with the
respective technicians
Single Investor Lease and Leveraged Lease:
In single investor lease, there are two parties lessor and lessee. The lessor arranges the money to
finance the asset or equipment by way of equity or debt. The lender is entitled to recover money from
the lessor only and not from the lessee in case of default by lessor. Lessee is entitled to pay the lease

The Demise Of Nat Turner s Rebellion
Nat Turner s rebellion has been considered one of the bloodiest slave revolt in Southern history, and
had a huge impact on the futures of Southern generations for years after. In Nat Turner s confessions
he states You have asked me to give a history of the motives which induced me to undertake the late
insurrection, as you call it To do so I must go back to the days of my infancy, and even before I was
born. I was thirty one years of age the 2d of October last, and born the property of Benjamin Turner,
of this county. (Turner 1831 pg.3) Nat Turner lived in South Hampton County, now in Virginia. In
South Hampton County, there were many slaves. Slaves would attend praise meetings and celebrate
the praise, in such a way the whites did not understand, but the whites still believed that they were
harmless. Again, the whites believed that their slaves posed no threat however, nothing was as calm as
it appeared. On August 22, 1831, a gang of slave rebels led by a preist, Nat Turner, attacked with guns
and axes in the biggest and bloodiest slave revolt in Southern history. Nat Turner was known as a
harmless man, although he was intelligent. Turner was a Baptist priest in the black community, even
though he was never official. He had a wife, Cherry, also a young slave but were separated. Turner
was an intelligent man his knowledge of the Bible was incredible. Turner waited for a sign from God
to start his attack. There was an eclipse in 1831, and Turner took his sign and

Effectiveness Of School Lunch And Nutritional Policies Essay
Youth between the ages of 5 and 18 consume up to nearly half of their daily nourishment in the school
setting (Gosliner et al, 2011, p. 146). With such a significant number as nearly half, it has become key
that students receive the correct nourishment from the school lunches provided to them. Parents and
students argue that school lunch and nutritional policies have overstepped their boundaries; however,
the schools and institutions feel the need to enforce and support the policies, stating they are
improving the child s health. The identification of each side s arguments is key to finding the
effectiveness of school lunch and nutritional policies and to find out if they are actually working to
help make students healthier and better educated about their diets.
The effectiveness of nutritional policies can be seen in the education of the students about their diets.
Many students have the mindset that a food is good for their health, which is only half the fight. This
first half is explained in a study done by the University of California, Berkeley: Overall, students rated
fresh fruit as the most important item to be able to by at school (69% responded important or very
important), followed by sports drinks (63%), green salad (55%), and other vegetables (53%) (Gosliner
et al, 2011, p. 148). The fact that students are able to know that these foods are healthy shows that the
nutritional policies are doing their job; the policies are working to shape a student s diet

Abbottabad, Pakistan noumansami83@hotmail.com Abstract In today s fast changing world,
cybercrimes are growing at perturbing pace. At the very definition of it, cybercrimes get engendered
by capitalizing on threats and exploitation of vulnerabilities. However, recent history reveals that such
crimes often come with surprises and seldom follow the trends. This puts the defense systems behind
in the race, because of their inability to identify new patters of cybercrime and to ameliorate to the
required levels of security. This paper visualizes the empowerment of security systems through real
time data mining by the virtue of which these systems will be able to dynamically identify patterns of
cybercrimes. This will help those security systems stepping up their defense capabilities, while
adapting to the required levels posed by newly germinating patterns. In order to confine within scope
of this paper, the application of this approach is being discussed in the context of selected scenarios of
cybercrime.

Why Is Presidential Leadership Rating The Best And The...
The United States since its adoption of the Constitution in 1787 has accumulated total amount forty
five presidents over two hundred and thirty years. These forty five presidents as history and the United
States continues, will be the subject of analysts throughout history, who will try to rank them from the
best to the worst. The book written by James Taranto and Leonard Leo, Presidential Leadership:
Rating the Best and the Worst in the White House is one of these analytical books shoving the
presidents into a ranking by using a survey of professors of history, law and political science to rate
them. This book by Leo and Taranto focus on a handful of prime objectives for the readers to
overserve while reading the book. The first is to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One reason I that this book is a great read is that it is easily a readable book for any person who is
looking for a general reference for presidential history. The unique perspective given by the wide
verity of authors provide the reader with a great historical importance that each president had on the
office is another aspect that makes this book worth reading. Finally, the most surprising aspect that
made this book a decent read is that the authors did somewhat succeed on their attempt to provide a
well balanced and un biased ranking of the presidents through survey of professional scholars.
Although, there are a few more aspects to this historical and political work that makes it a great read
there are flaws that make this book s ranking of the presidents a little questionable. The first and most
likely the hardest to see is that the many authors that wrote the essays of each president did not agree
with the survey results while some did. The second flaw is that not every president up to George W.
Bush is represented on the ranking appendix on pages elven and twelve. The authors mention that
presidents George W. Bush, the ninth president William Henry Harrison, and 20th president James
Garfield is not being represented on the chart (pg. 12). George W. Bush not being the chart is
understandable because this survey and information gathering did take place before his election, but
the other two are being left out for the reasons of short terms (pg. 12). I

Assynt Geography
Assynt is a region in the south west of Sutherland, a county in the Highlands of Scotland. It is
characterised by water logged grasslands on much of the landscape, as well as large rocky mountains
dominating the sky. To the east of the northern road, there is a zone of imbricates created by the sole
thrust, indicating beginning of the Moine thrust complex. This sole thrust is also visible around the
Skiag bridge area and also by Ardveck castle. The area has been of particular interest for geologists
since the early 20th century, due to the wide range of rocks and processes that are present. For
example, the ages of the rocks in the area vary from Lewisian Gneiss of Archean age, all the way up to
the relatively recent Ordovician Durness limestone group, covering a vast portion of our planets
history. The more recent formations are not found within the mapping area, and are more prominent in
the east, and the Durness limestones have a much larger area of outcrops in the north, surrounding the
village of Durness along the coast. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similarly, the peaks of Quinag rise high above the area at up to 808m. As the area is in Scotland, and
therefore high latitudes, it was likely to have been affected greatly by the ice ages that have occurred
throughout history, especially in the quaternary. It is these events that have mostly shaped the
landscape that we see today, creating glacial till deposits and U shaped valleys that can be seen
throughout the majority of northern Great

South Dakota Landscape
Carrie Breitbach s (2009) The Geographies of a More Just Food System: Building Landscapes for
Social Reproduction revolves around the idea of bringing justice to the food system by rectifying
landscape and social reproduction as a solution in South Dakota. In contrast, Peirce F. Lewis s Axioms

which he calls axioms. In the Geographic (or Ecological) Axiom, Lewis argues that studying a
landscape outside its location makes no sense in gaining cultural insight on the landscape (1979, 24).

Consequently, an increase in corn production could predict a scenario where wetlands begin to be used

Having codes of practise within the care industry is important, due to the industry entitling you to
work with and amongst vulnerable individuals in society, ensuring that there is a certain standard of
work along with a certain standard of moral and ethical behaviour.
Within a job description the main points usually tell you what tasks and responsibilities you are
required to do, it does not state how these requirements need to be carried out. In order to find this out,
you would refer to the relevant standards that are in place that allow you to work. Relevant standards,
like codes of practice will differ depending on the country in which you work. Each UK country has
National Minimal Standards that are used by inspectors to ensure that services are being delivered at
an acceptable level. National Occupational Standards are also set across the whole of the UK to ensure
that an individual effectively carries out their work within the care industry. The National
Occupational Standards form the basis to all qualifications in the care sector (Pearsons College amp;

Charlie Davis Character Comparison
Character Comparison Essay
In the book Girl In Pieces by Kathleen Glasgow, the main character Charlie Davis and a later

Analysis Of Maple Leaf Rag
JOPLIN: MAPLE LEAF RAG
Scott Joplin was acknowledged, as king of ragtime in (1868 1917) he was a composer and pianist
whose father had been a slave. Joplin was trained in classical music. Scott Joplin s Maple Leaf Rag
was published in 1899 with a March Tempo.
You can hear strong, steady chords in left hand keeps the march beat going throughout the piece,
while the right hand plays a lively, syncopated melody against this steady beat. The sections are
repeated in the usual pattern. The melody begins higher and moves down. The section is repeated. The
opening section is played. The key is change too; there is a change in the right hand rhythmic; and left
hand leaps. Once again the section is repeated. Then it returns to the original key; strong final cadence
and the section are repeated as the music comes to end.
I feel like this piece, he wanted to wow his audience. The impressive tempo and difficulty of the piece
were his way of showing that ragtime was as legitimate as any other genre, regardless of its origins.
Maple Leaf Rag is playful, fun, and yet oddly mature. The use of the lower notes against the high
notes creates a contrast that feels like an adult borrowing childhood for a few moments. It makes me
feel young again, and the fast paced, quirky notes are a welcome break from the normal, more sober
piano recital. I like this. This is why I say to people, tunes of the old days really do show intuition and
good old fashioned wisdom on how to play tunes.

No Pain Analysis
A person that doesn t feel pain may sound like something you would read in the comics, but in real life
there are in fact some people who don t feel pain. There are two hereditary reasons for this condition.
First are neuropathies, which is the pain detecting nervous system that doesn t fully develop. The other
is congenital analgesia that starts at birth where the pain detecting nervous system grows however
does not function (The Conversation par. 8). Although many people would love the idea of being able
to feel no pain, there are some rather unpleasant side affects. A person wouldn t be able to know if he
or she is injured, have no sense of smell, and a person would not fully understand what s dangerous.
People with this condition receive injury without knowing it. They can feel the difference between
what s sharp, dull, hot and chilly. However they can t, for instance, tell that a hot drink is hurting their
tongue (Congenital Insensitivity to Pain pg. 1). A boy named Isaac is one of these few people. He feels
something but the pain must be many times greater to compare to how normal people would be, said

Water is pumped into solar panels where it is directly heated by the sun and then pumped into storage
tanks where it is stored. Direct systems are very effective but have a shorter life span when compared
to indirect systems. The reason being is that, the water chemicals erode the pipes and the panels over
time and hence have to be maintained regularly. Water inside the panels can freeze in colder weather
conditions which may result in damaging the system (Choosing a solar geyser, 2010). Figure 1 Direct
System
Advantages of a Direct System
 Service water used directly from collector loop
 No heat exchanger more efficient heat transfer to storage
 Circulation pump needs only to overcome frictional losses.
Disadvantages of a Direct System
 It is only convenient to use them in areas where it rarely freezes and the quality of water must be
really good.
Indirect systems use the same procedure but the geysers in this system have copper pipes that are used
as the heating coil. Water is separated from the water inside the tank by copper pipes in this system.
An antifreeze fluid circulates through the solar panels (Choosing a solar geyser, 2010). The fluid flows
through the collector and then through the copper pipes inside the storage tank. The water is then
indirectly heated. The indirect systems have a longer life span when compared to direct systems as

The Lisa And The Renaissance Art Of The Mona Lisa
Beginning with the renaissance period and it s artistic contributions to the period we find one of, if not
the most famous piece of art ever, The Mona Lisa. The Mona Lisa exemplifies the renaissance period
and the era of renaissance art itself. Michelangelo Buonarroti painted the Mona Lisa in 1517 A.D. He
s most famous for his fresco s in the Sistine Chapel, specifically the ceiling. However, the Mona Lisa
is arguably the most copied piece of all time. I happen to have a copy in my home which I couldn t
imagine being without. Renaissance was a cultural movement that spanned roughly from the 14th
century to the 17th century. It saw some of the greatest artists in the history of mankind including
Leonardo Da Vinci and Michelangelo Buonarroti. July 10, 2017 (https://learnodo
newtonic.com/famous renaissance paintings)
One of the greatest artistic advancements of the Renaissance period was used to create the Mona Lisa.
The technique is called Sfumato. Sfumato is the practice of blurring lines and softening blending tones
and hues. Its attributed with fostering increased dimensional depth to ordinarily two dimensional art.
While looking at the Mona Lisa and her seemingly plain features you begin to see the effects of
Sfumato at work. From the blurred lines defining her soft lips to the shading around her soft eyes. The
entire piece takes on a much softer appearance never before seen in such great application of art
during this period. The Mona Lisa is truly humanistic. She s close by and in the forefront. Her hair is
soft and her gaze is very relaxed. The natural light and rugged terrain behind her almost goes
unnoticed. She s mesmerized admirers for centuries before and hopefully, for centuries to come.
Rococo art can be seen influencing artist even today. If your viewing a whimsical, flirtatious or
mischievous piece of art post 18th century, you re likely looking at Rococo inspired art. During the
latter part of the 18th century Rococo art had evolved largely from the early Renaissance type art and
Sfumato techniques. Almost the antithesis of Baroque art and it s reliance on straight lines and sharp
contrast coupled with popular, or unpopular imperial Louis XIV messaging, Rococo adds some

Understanding Security Issues And Giving It A Specific...
Understanding security issues and giving it a specific definition has been much debated over for many
years. This is because theorists of international relations look at security from different perspectives
just like they examine the concept of polarity and power from different perspectives. The argument the
essay poses is that the concept of polarity can be useful in helping us to understand security issues and
this is because by looking at the three different types of polarity, it can demonstrate to us how the
security level of states differentiates. In addition, the essay will also state that the neorealist perception
on polarity is more convincing in today s world in comparison to the view that the liberalist and
constructivist has. In order to support the argument, the essay will firstly look at the concept of
security itself and the views that some theorists take on it. Secondly, it will look at the concept of
power. Thirdly, it will look at the three different types of polarity which are; a) multipolarity, b)
bipolarity and c) unipolarity. Fourthly, it will look at how polarity was before, during and after the
Cold War and following that it will look at the neorealist view on polarity in comparison to the
constructivist and liberalist. In addition to the above, it will look at how China is rising.
According to Booth (2005), security has been one of those common sense, pre defined terms in
international relations orthodoxy that appear to be unproblematic until

same way I feel about the media on television that shows the commercials that capture the attention to

really think that the ads are better than some shows and anything else that comes on television. It
shapes the culture for children and adults, because it helps to find out your likes and dislikes.
Advantages and Disadvantages of ads is the desire of these products, that means the commercial can

Lyncherdom Stereotypes
In the United States a problem of mass stereotyping has been on the rise, especially with the young

between two fencers with their sword points covered and the swordsmen are wearing masks tied to
their wigs, large bib, and padding over their ears. This is shown in a carving from Egypt, along with ...

The Epee, or the Rapier, Was used mainly in Spain and Italy. Wrestling moves were coordinated with
fencing moves to help fencers be formidable against several opponents. It has a long thin blade with a
sharp edge and a vented basket for a hand guard. This became a favored weapon for dueling with the
entire body of the opponent being the target area. The rapiers of this time were edged, yet this was to
keep opponents from grabbing the blade, and would not be used to slash until much later. Shortly after
1471, dueling was banned by the Catholic Church. Spanish conquests brought fencing around the
world, and that turned fencing into a sport. Sometime in the 18th century a French school of fencing,
improved the sport into what we know now.
Olympic Fencing, is a sport in which two athletes battle with a rapier style sword. In Olympic fencing
there are three categories, Foil, épée and sabre, all of them having different weapons and target area.
Foil requires that the opponent be hit in center of the body, with the tip of the sword, whereas with
épée you can hit anywhere on the body, but still with only the tip. With sabre you must hit somewhere
in the upper body of the opponent, with anywhere on the blade. Since you can hit with anywhere on
the blade, rounds of sabre fencing are very

Idolatry In Silas Marner
According to Merriam Webster, idolatry is the immoderate attachment or devotion to something (
Idolatry ). Some readers argue that Silas s devotion to Eppie is just another form of idolatry that
otherwise would have been manifested in the worshipping of his money. The novel, Silas Marner,
however, indicates that Silas s love for Eppie is a fatherly one, instead of an idolatrous one. Silas
progresses from the superficial idolatry of money to sincere love for Eppie as his interactions with the
money involve absolute possession, excessive worshipping, and irrational dependence, none of which
is seen in Silas after his adoption of Eppie; he cares for Eppie as a father, not an idolator.
Silas s absolute possession of his gold is characterized by the concealment of it. The underground
chamber, in which Silas hides his money, can be interpreted as the metaphorical representation of the
wickedness in his heart, which is invested with the the parasitic greed for more money. Upon realizing
the disappearance of his gold, Silas goes into a frantic episode when he gave a wild ringing scream
(Eliot 44), for the only idol that fills the void in which social relationship ought to have occupied, is no
longer there to numb the pain from solitude. The hoard of gold is Silas s only companion, and was
hidden away from daylight, was deaf to the song of birds, and started to no human tones (Eliot 132
133). Not only does the money deprive Silas of the access to the instinctive appreciation

Weight Watchers Vs Point Based Diets
Food is one of human beings beloved obsessions. We have an infinite infatuation with food and we
spend a great deal of time preoccupied with ways to satisfy this innate need. Food takes center stage
when we organize a fun day out with our families, plan a romantic night, look for an all inclusive
vacation package, or simply seek means to relief the stress of everyday life. However, if we
overindulge, this affection can turn into a haunting nightmare, capable of shaking our sense of self
worth and confidence. Weight loss diet promise to restore that self assurance and restore that sense of
normalcy that we may have lost. But here comes the challenge of choosing one from the countless
weight loss diets that are available through infomercials, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These diets do not try to eliminate essential nutrients from the diet or limit food that one loves from
the diet, but rather assign point values to food. Weight Watchers or Deal a Meal are some of diets that
are being advertised, however, there are a lot more. No food is off the menu when you subscribe to
this plan and you could still enjoy and eat what you love and crave. However, Weight Watchers
assigns different food a Smart Point value. Food that are nutrient dense but relatively low calories
such as complex carbohydrates, lean protein, and healthy fats are assigned low values. This means you
could consume large quantities from this group without impacting your weight. Food that contain
empty calorie, on the other hand, like highly processed carbohydrates, saturated fats, and added sugar
stuff are assigned a higher value. One can only eat very small portions from this group to stay on
target. The system is fairly easy to follow: you set the target goal, eat your favorite food from a list of
stuff as long as you stay within your daily target, and shed those extra pounds of weight that you
desire to lose. They, however, require more discipline to follow and may be costlier than some of the
other diets that are out there. Food that is rich in empty calories, like pasta, pastries, sweetened drinks,
cookies, pies and cobblers, and other highly processed food is a lot cheaper to buy than food that is
dense in nutrients, like vegetables, fruits, lean meat and

How to Work in Singapore
Wondering how to acquire an employment pass for a company in Singapore? Here are the some ways
you can do so.
Generally, EP (Employment Pass) is a kind of pass usually issued to professional employees, foreign
directors, and managers who are planning to work in Singapore.
Likewise, an Employment Pass holder is not qualified for a levy or CPF (Central Provident Fund), and
the pass being issued is only valid for 1 2 years and should be renewed after. One of the many benefits
of acquiring this is it allows the applicant to work, stay, and travel in Singapore without the need to
apply for a VISA just to enter the country.
For those who are planning to set up a company in Singapore, they could opt for an Entrepreneur Pass
Singapore prior to moving there.
Though, it could be more cumbersome when it comes to the renewal of an Entrepreneur Pass
Singapore after some time.
In order to be certain, check out the criteria when applying for an Entrepreneur Pass:
The following are the fees scheduled for application of the Employment Pass:
 Initial Processing Fees: S$850 (non refundable processing fees)
 MOM License: 06C3628
 Extra Approval Fees: S$1500 (The approval fees given after the approval of the Employment Pass
Singapore, which is the receipt of IPA Employment Pass Singapore). Though, the medical check up
fees are not included.
The Criteria for Singapore Employment Pass:
With effect on 1 July 2011, every applicant of an Employment Pass must have a fixed salary not less

FINDING A BALANCE
Finding a Balance: Europa Universalis IV
In many ways, Europa Universalis 4 is less of a game about history, and more of a game about
understanding history. In this game, you play as any nation from 1444 until 1821, from the dawn of
the fall of the Western Roman Empire until the death of Napoleon, and your goals as a state are only
limited by your imagination and skill. Accomplishing a world conquest is completely within the realm
of possibility for a skilled player, or you could be the type of player who simply wants to form
Germany or unite the Holy Roman Empire.
The player can begin the game at any date during the period which the game takes place, with the map
of the world being representative of the actual world at that time, but players will often find that their
games do not come close to this accuracy even when the player has nothing to do with it. Because
every nation is played by an AI just as long as you have been playing your nation, sometimes variation
happens. From personal experience, I have seen
Venice control almost all of Greece when I was playing an Asian country. It is this variation which
gives the game excitement; if I knew how the game would progress every single time, I would play
one game and never play again.
On one hand, you have a serious, historical simulation of the world and how it progressed, and on the
other hand you have a game where Ulm, a German minor, can take over the entire European continent
within several hundred

The Vampire Lestat and the Problem of Eternal Damnation Essay
The problem or question of what it means to be damned is difficult to understand at the best of times,
it is however all the more difficult when the subject in question is a vampire. How does a vampire that
has developed God like powers and whose only way to survive is to take human life, redeem
themselves in the eyes of God? This is not really an issue for Lestat; as for the majority of the Vampire
Chronicles he believes himself to be a form of God. With every life that Lestat takes he is committing
a mortal sin, the gravest form of sin and he does so with full knowledge and consent. With reference to
Anne Rice s Vampire Chronicles and both Interview with the Vampire and Queen of the Damned
motion pictures, Lestat s journey from mortal to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By their very nature, a mortal sin cuts our relationship off from God and turns man away from his
creator. (Saintaquinas.com: 1)
If mortal sin is a grave matter, what does the bible constitute as being a grave matter? One idea to look
upon is breaking any one of the Ten Commandments, although some are not considered as grave as
others. St. Paul offers us a list of such offences, which if committed will not allow the sinner to enter
the Kingdom of God:
The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and
witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissentions, factions and envy;
drunkenness, orgies and the like. I warn you as I did before, that those who live like this will not
inherit the kingdom of God. (Galatians, 1995, 5:19 20: 824)
It would be fair to assume that almost everyone is guilty of at least one of the above sins at some point
in life; however, a being such as Lestat is on a different level of sin. Of course in between these levels
of sin there are sins, which are considered to be of a graver nature, it is obviously a graver sin to
murder than to be a drunk. From this it would be simpler to know that the latter would be considered a
venial sin and not within the same gravity of a mortal sin and therefore the sinner can be saved.
However bad a mortal sin is, according to the

Medtronic Corporation s Cardiac Pacemaker Business The legacy of Medtronic Corporation, the company that created the cardiac pacemaker industry, is a proud one. Starting from its earliest pacemakers, which had to be carried outside the body, Medtronic had achieved dramatic improvements in the functionality, size and reliability of these devices. In so doing it had extended the lives, and improved the quality of life, for hundreds of thousands of people in whom pacemakers had been implanted. These competitors proved much faster than Medtronic at developing new products that advanced the state of the art in pacemaking. Medtronic was also pummeled by two major product recalls related to product quality problems. Observers felt the company would have lost even more of the market during this period, were it not for its strong worldwide salesforce and the lingering legacy of its brand reputation amongst surgeons, the primary customer group. 1 This citation was made by the National Society of Professional Engineers in 1984. • 3. Color In Ex Machina Akhil John Professor Scott Humanities 200 8 November 2015 Ex Machina: The role of Color The movie Ex Machina directed by Alex Garland portrayed what true artificial intelligence would be like and how that would affect the human race. Garland s work with Ex Machina painted a picture on what true Artificial Intelligence would be like, a self aware, thinking, manipulative robot that have traits highly resembling human traits and character that highly resembles human character. Garland uses color in very subtle ways to add to the complexity of his masterpiece making his movie have deeper meaning. In the movie Garland uses color, in order to convey the traditional expressions of each character and the plot as a whole. The use of the color of t shirt a caleb is wearing at a certain point brings about the detail in his feelings and the expression he has. For instance Caleb initially is seen to wear a blue and red t shirt. The juxtaposition of red and blue which is seen throughout the film highlights to what extent a character feels uncertain and anxious. This is evident as after Caleb has won the competition , he is unsure how to feel and is nervous. As Caleb gets the job, he starts wearing a lot of blue toned ... When Mrs. Sen came to America, she was astonished by the lack of care given by everyone else. She asked Elliot that if she began to scream at the top of her lungs. Would someone come? (6). All she had to do back in India was raise your voice a bit, or express grief or joy of any kind, and one whole neighborhood and half of another [would] come to share the news . Comparison of the Poems, Two Scavengers and Nothing s Changed Nothings Changed was written by Tatamkhulu Afrika, a mixed race child with fair skin, who was later adopted by a white South African family who brought him up as though he was white, and he only found out about his origins as a teenager. Tatamkhulu lived in a multi cultural area called District Six, which was destroyed by the white authorities. He feels strongly about this kind of racism towards the black people despite the fact that he has fair skin. This gives me the impression that both sides stick to their own , either due to the partite or difference of race. Two Scavengers is set at some traffic lights in downtown San Francisco at 9am. The whole poem is based around a freeze frame in time. The poet gives very little description to the setting of the poem, and instead focuses mainly on the two working classes, to get the point across. Socially, I think the Bin Men, or Garbage Men as they are called in the piece as this the poet is an American, aren t very well respected compared to the couple in the Mercedes. In the poem it says, ...and looking down into... as if to say that the Bin Men were looking down on the posh couple, this is but a bit role reversal between both sides. Bin Men have a lonely, smelly and dark job and most of the time are seen as stupid people, so therefore are taken advantage of. The poem makes me think this by saying, Grungy from their route . This particular quote gives us the impression that their job is very physical, dirty and smelly, which could possibly be linked to the hot climate, which again could add to the discomfort of the job. The couple in the Mercedes have a respectable job, are clean and are seen as clever and better off than many. I think this because the poem describes them as an, elegant couple and cool ... Red Figure Volute Krater From the St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts to the Metropolitan Museum of Arts, this paper will analysis and compare the visual aspects of the Red Figure Volute Krater (330 320 BCE) and the earlier Terracotta Krater (750 735 BCE) about their similarities and differences that extend across time. Along with the two kraters we will also discuss the quality of St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts environment. The St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts stands out from its surrounding with is dimensions alone, being only two stories it is dramatically shorter than any other building and its width covering near a city block makes it wider than any other building in the vicinity. The size of the krater being the second largest artwork, at approximately thirty inches, in the room helps it stand out from other pieces, but is still eclipsed by the Terracotta Krater (750 735 BCE) at approximately forty two inches. Size is not the only thing both kraters share that continued across time, contrasting colors also prevails in both pieces. The Red Figure Volute Krater (330 320 BCE) illustrating a white subject against a black background and the Terracotta Krater (750 735 BCE) with black subjects and yellow or lighter background. Kraters themselves are known to be used to water down wine, but with the funerary scenes on both kraters they would have been more likely used as grave markers. The placement of the Red Figure Volute Krater (330 320 BCE) being next to other grave markers within the museum helps to exemplify this as well as the information label associated to it. The use of visually encompassing the main figure persisted across time, but with slight differences. In the Red Figure Volute Krater (330 320 BCE) the main subject is surrounded by a Naiskos , or funerary shrine, whereas the Terracotta Krater (750 735 BCE) the main subject is covered or surrounded with burial cloth. Another visual aspect that both kraters have are figures on the outsides showing respect towards the deceased. On both kraters the figures showing respect are illustrated as women since in that era men were not to show emotions or attend the funeral. The Red Figure Volute Krater shows this by the reddish brown figure how women were portrayed and the Terracotta Krater by small marks indicating breast. Across the length of time, both kraters also have other commonalities such as the main figure s nudity for their heroism or divinity and the inclusion of spears and/or war ... Stereopsis vision can be described as viewing an image during the presence of aberrations. The apparatus is a tool that can give the viewer the ability to see one clear image when confronted with images that are shown to be of slightly different angles. The author of this article believed that if the apparatus can be operated to converge two images then more information may be obtained relating to the association of binocular vision and stereopsis impairment. By obtaining this information it is possible that Stereopsis Impairment can be cured for those who have it. It is important to be able to cure the impairment that has been affecting lives for years. Film Analysis Story vs. Film Film vs. Short Story Analysis The Curious Case of Benjamin Button In reviewing the Paramount film adaptation of The Curious of Benjamin Button, directed by David Fincher and screenplay by Eric Roth, with the original story by F. Scott Fitzgerald, one may conclude that there are more differences than there are similarities. The film version does maintain the main premise of the story, in that, it tells the tale of a man born old that grew up to be young, a story on aging. I will attempt to provide you with my view of the two mediums regarding their characters, settings and elements in the film that enhance or distract from the story. The film version contained two mothers , actually; the birth mother who dies giving birth to him that we later find out was named Caroline, her maiden name being Murphy. We catch a brief glimpse of her just after the birth when she makes the father promise that Benjamin would have a place in his life. Of course he is upset and he looks at what may be a monstrosity for a son, blaming the child for her death and dumps Benjamin on the stairs at the old folk s home where an African American woman, named Queenie, becomes his surrogate mother. Here is a loving and nurturing individual that raises him in the film where there is no loving or nurturing female in the literary story. Now in the literary story Benjamin has a grandfather who at the start was antagonized, became to enjoy his grandson s company. It is a brief account of his grandfather but a meaningful one as this was the first one who gave him a sense of acceptance. The film version gave him acceptance through Queenie and we never get to know a grandfather; though one could say the patrons at the old folk s home could have been grandparent surrogates for Benjamin. The patrons at the old folks home taught him many things but his experience living there taught him not to fear death and what loss was about which, in a sense, desensitized the character so that when Queenie passes he is not visibly upset. • 10. Security Dilemm Spiral Model Security Dilemma (spiral model) What is a security dilemma ? Does it cause wars? Is the security dilemma confined to international politics? Introduction National security is arguably the primary objective of political leaders and yet conflict and war seems an inevitable aspect of international politics and thus a dominant theme in IR scholarship. The security dilemma or so called spiral model is frequently used to explain the escalation of conflict and onset of war in international politics, particularly paralleling the sequence of events that prompted World War I and the super power arms race during the Cold War. The question remains, however, as a theoretical model, does the security dilemma trigger war? Perhaps a more salient question given the rise in ethnic conflicts and security threats from non state actors since the Cold War is can the security dilemma literature provide policy relevant guidance of how to deal with these sub state threats to regional and perhaps international stability? This response proceeds as follows: First, I define the term security dilemma as well as contextualize its development within the IR scholarship. Second, I argue, the security dilemma concept coupled with neorealist theoretical assumptions may indeed perpetuate a hostile international environment, creating a self fulfilling prophecy effect. Instead, I suggest, the constructivist framework offers much needed intersubjective understandings and ideational alternatives ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Hypercritical Analysis Of Beauty And The Beast In recent years, Disney has begun concerted efforts to adapt several of their animated classics into live action movies. Though this move has garnered new interest in the original versions from new audiences, older audiences that grew up watching these beloved classics have had mixed reactions to the remakes of their childhood favorites. This year s Beauty and the Beast, an adaptation of the animated movie of the same name originally released in 1991, was received warmly by nostalgic audiences, highly criticized by those that disliked the changes to the plot or the casting, and even boycotted by those that believed there were controversial themes included (Han). Josh Spiegel, co host of the Mousterpiece Cinema podcast and a member of the Online Film Critics Society (OFCS.org), was one of the many respected reviewers that disparaged and nitpicked to find fault in the live action version. While his analysis on Slash Film was well written and contained a few valid points, I disagreed with much of his Beauty and the Beast movie review. As I read Spiegel s often hypercritical analysis of the film, I found that my opinions were in direct contrast to many of his points. One such point of contention was his strongly held belief that including additional backstory to the movie to provide answers for the previously unanswered questions distracts from the appeal of the mystery surrounding the unusual circumstances of the plot. He attempts to persuade the reader of his point by making ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Pietas In Aeneas In The Aeneid Before Augustus reign began, civil war had ravished the basic principles of the Roman people. Faction had undermined pietas, the basis of Roman culture and as Cicero defines it, that which warns us to fulfil our duties towards our country, our parents, or others connected with us by ties of blood (De Inventione II). The duty towards country, parents and relatives was less of a bond because faction determined duty rather that pietas. Therefore Rome, a city founded in pietas, was that foundational principle. Internal faction undermined the principles of pietas and corrupted its role in the city. Rome required a moral reform of pietas; it needed pietas to refocus the roots of the city. Commissioned by Augustus, Virgil fashions the Aeneid in order to portray the necessity of pietas. Virgil compares his work to Homer s and with each comparison of Aeneas with another Greek hero, he emphasises the pietas within Aeneas. By thus combining the heroism many Greek heroes into Aeneas, Virgil redefines Greek epic heroism to include pietas. By doing this, Virgil shows that Rome s unification through pietas harnesses her power. Thus, Virgil unveils to the Romans a virtue which allows each individual Roman citizen embody and partake in the glory of Rome. Paris, the antagonist of the Trojan war, embodies and reflects Troy s lack of pietas. When Paris stole Helen, he was Menelaus guest and under the ancient code of hospitality. However, the abduction of Helen went further than breaking an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Summary Of Parmenide In just 20 lines in section 11.8 of his poem, Parmenides gives at least three arguments for why what is is ungenerated. I will present and explain each argument, the first two briefly and the last at more length because I consider his third argument to be his most comprehensive. Last, I will address his explanation of why what is is imperishable. Argument 1. Any given thing requires a reason to be generated, including what is (supplied) It makes no sense to say that a reason suddenly existed for what is to be generated (11.8, 9 10) Therefore what is was not generated (11.8, 11) This argument takes place in the space of just a few lines, in which Parmenides poses a question what need would have roused it, later or earlier, to grow, having begun from nothing? (11.8, 9 10). It here refers to what is. He assumes that everything has a reason to be generated some specific need but he cannot see why this reason would suddenly appear. The phrase later or earlier might point to how difficult it is to believe that at an arbitrary moment in time what is suddenly had a reason to spring into existence. If no such need could have appeared, then what is could not have been generated. Parmenides applies this argument specifically to what is being generated from what is not, or having begun from nothing (11.8, 10). And the argument certainly does seem to challenge the idea of generation from nothing, but I have left it neutral as regards the source of what is in my reconstruction here. I did this because I believe he can also apply Argument 1 to challenge the idea of generation from what is, not only from what is not. It should apply to both because the only way to say that what is is not generated is to show that it is generated from neither what is not, nor what is. More on this in Argument 3. Argument 2. Someone or something must bring any given thing, including what is, into existence (supplied) No one can make anything come into existence (11.8, 12) Therefore what is cannot be generated (11.8, 13 14) This is a difficult argument to suss out, especially since once again it takes place in only three lines. But he says that the force of conviction cannot make anything come to be out of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Flat Iron Mesa in San Juan County Flat Iron Mesa is located in the heart of the Moab and Canyonlands area and enters San Juan County. It is surrounded by the Hatch Wash Canyon to the west and the La Sal mountain range towards the east. The vast features of the mesa and surrounding canyons demonstrate the remarkable effects of millions of years of erosion on a landscape of mostly sedimentary rock. The mesa s extensive landscape is covered with biological soil crust as well as an abundance of ephemeral pools. The potholes throughout the mesa are naturally occurring basins in deposits of sandstone that progressively collect rainwater and wind blown sediment which gradually erode the underlying rock; leaving a series of circular impressions along the mesa s floor. Weathering, geologic processes such as erosion, and climatic shifts allow for this immense desert ecosystem to continually evolve and change which has taken place for millions of years. This geologically wealthy environment is composed of alternating flat lying layers of soft and hard deposits of mostly sedimentary rocks. Interchanging slopes and cliffs along the landscape helped form these layers of rock which can be seen fully exposed in areas of the mesa. Deposition of this landscape mainly occurred during the Permian, Pennsylvanian, Triassic and Jurassic time periods. The assortment of warm hues of sandstone were produced by varying levels of iron oxide minerals during formation. For hundreds of millions of years, geologic material ... I was thirty one years of age the 2d of October last, and born the property of Benjamin Turner, of this county. (Turner 1831 pg.3) Nat Turner lived in South Hampton County, now in Virginia. • 19. Effectiveness Of School Lunch And Nutritional Policies Essay Youth between the ages of 5 and 18 consume up to nearly half of their daily nourishment in the school setting (Gosliner et al, 2011, p. 146). With such a significant number as nearly half, it has become key that students receive the correct nourishment from the school lunches provided to them. Parents and students argue that school lunch and nutritional policies have overstepped their boundaries; however, the schools and institutions feel the need to enforce and support the policies, stating they are improving the child s health. The identification of each side s arguments is key to finding the effectiveness of school lunch and nutritional policies and to find out if they are actually working to help make students healthier and better educated about their diets. The effectiveness of nutritional policies can be seen in the education of the students about their diets. Many students have the mindset that a food is good for their health, which is only half the fight. This first half is explained in a study done by the University of California, Berkeley: Overall, students rated fresh fruit as the most important item to be able to by at school (69% responded important or very important), followed by sports drinks (63%), green salad (55%), and other vegetables (53%) (Gosliner et al, 2011, p. 148). At the very definition of it, cybercrimes get engendered by capitalizing on threats and exploitation of vulnerabilities. However, recent history reveals that such crimes often come with surprises and seldom follow the trends. This puts the defense systems behind in the race, because of their inability to identify new patters of cybercrime and to ameliorate to the required levels of security. This paper visualizes the empowerment of security systems through real time data mining by the virtue of which these systems will be able to dynamically identify patterns of cybercrimes. The unique perspective given by the wide verity of authors provide the reader with a great historical importance that each president had on the office is another aspect that makes this book worth reading. Finally, the most surprising aspect that made this book a decent read is that the authors did somewhat succeed on their attempt to provide a well balanced and un biased ranking of the presidents through survey of professional scholars. Although, there are a few more aspects to this historical and political work that makes it a great read there are flaws that make this book s ranking of the presidents a little questionable. The first and most likely the hardest to see is that the many authors that wrote the essays of each president did not agree with the survey results while some did. The second flaw is that not every president up to George W. Bush is represented on the ranking appendix on pages elven and twelve. The authors mention that presidents George W. Bush, the ninth president William Henry Harrison, and 20th president James Garfield is not being represented on the chart (pg. 12). George W. Bush not being the chart is understandable because this survey and information gathering did take place before his election, but the other two are being left out for the reasons of short terms (pg. 12). • 22. Assynt Geography Assynt is a region in the south west of Sutherland, a county in the Highlands of Scotland. It is characterised by water logged grasslands on much of the landscape, as well as large rocky mountains dominating the sky. To the east of the northern road, there is a zone of imbricates created by the sole thrust, indicating beginning of the Moine thrust complex. This sole thrust is also visible around the Skiag bridge area and also by Ardveck castle. The area has been of particular interest for geologists since the early 20th century, due to the wide range of rocks and processes that are present. For example, the ages of the rocks in the area vary from Lewisian Gneiss of Archean age, all the way up to the relatively recent Ordovician Durness limestone group, covering a vast portion of our planets history. Joplin was trained in classical music. Scott Joplin s Maple Leaf Rag was published in 1899 with a March Tempo. You can hear strong, steady chords in left hand keeps the march beat going throughout the piece, while the right hand plays a lively, syncopated melody against this steady beat. The sections are repeated in the usual pattern. The melody begins higher and moves down. The section is repeated. The opening section is played. The key is change too; there is a change in the right hand rhythmic; and left hand leaps. Once again the section is repeated. Then it returns to the original key; strong final cadence and the section are repeated as the music comes to end. I feel like this piece, he wanted to wow his audience. The impressive tempo and difficulty of the piece were his way of showing that ragtime was as legitimate as any other genre, regardless of its origins. Maple Leaf Rag is playful, fun, and yet oddly mature. The use of the lower notes against the high notes creates a contrast that feels like an adult borrowing childhood for a few moments. The Lisa And The Renaissance Art Of The Mona Lisa Beginning with the renaissance period and it s artistic contributions to the period we find one of, if not the most famous piece of art ever, The Mona Lisa. The Mona Lisa exemplifies the renaissance period and the era of renaissance art itself. Michelangelo Buonarroti painted the Mona Lisa in 1517 A.D. He s most famous for his fresco s in the Sistine Chapel, specifically the ceiling. However, the Mona Lisa is arguably the most copied piece of all time. I happen to have a copy in my home which I couldn t imagine being without. Renaissance was a cultural movement that spanned roughly from the 14th century to the 17th century. It saw some of the greatest artists in the history of mankind including Leonardo Da Vinci and Michelangelo Buonarroti. July 10, 2017 (https://learnodo newtonic.com/famous renaissance paintings) One of the greatest artistic advancements of the Renaissance period was used to create the Mona Lisa. The technique is called Sfumato. Sfumato is the practice of blurring lines and softening blending tones and hues. Its attributed with fostering increased dimensional depth to ordinarily two dimensional art. While looking at the Mona Lisa and her seemingly plain features you begin to see the effects of Sfumato at work. From the blurred lines defining her soft lips to the shading around her soft eyes. The entire piece takes on a much softer appearance never before seen in such great application of art during this period. The Mona Lisa is truly humanistic. She s close by and in the forefront. Her hair is soft and her gaze is very relaxed. The natural light and rugged terrain behind her almost goes unnoticed. She s mesmerized admirers for centuries before and hopefully, for centuries to come. Rococo art can be seen influencing artist even today. If your viewing a whimsical, flirtatious or mischievous piece of art post 18th century, you re likely looking at Rococo inspired art. During the latter part of the 18th century Rococo art had evolved largely from the early Renaissance type art and Sfumato techniques. This is because theorists of international relations look at security from different perspectives just like they examine the concept of polarity and power from different perspectives. The argument the essay poses is that the concept of polarity can be useful in helping us to understand security issues and this is because by looking at the three different types of polarity, it can demonstrate to us how the security level of states differentiates. In addition, the essay will also state that the neorealist perception on polarity is more convincing in today s world in comparison to the view that the liberalist and constructivist has. In order to support the argument, the essay will firstly look at the concept of security itself and the views that some theorists take on it. Secondly, it will look at the concept of power. Thirdly, it will look at the three different types of polarity which are; a) multipolarity, b) bipolarity and c) unipolarity. Some readers argue that Silas s devotion to Eppie is just another form of idolatry that otherwise would have been manifested in the worshipping of his money. The novel, Silas Marner, however, indicates that Silas s love for Eppie is a fatherly one, instead of an idolatrous one. Silas progresses from the superficial idolatry of money to sincere love for Eppie as his interactions with the money involve absolute possession, excessive worshipping, and irrational dependence, none of which is seen in Silas after his adoption of Eppie; he cares for Eppie as a father, not an idolator. Silas s absolute possession of his gold is characterized by the concealment of it. The underground chamber, in which Silas hides his money, can be interpreted as the metaphorical representation of the wickedness in his heart, which is invested with the the parasitic greed for more money. Upon realizing the disappearance of his gold, Silas goes into a frantic episode when he gave a wild ringing scream (Eliot 44), for the only idol that fills the void in which social relationship ought to have occupied, is no longer there to numb the pain from solitude. The hoard of gold is Silas s only companion, and was hidden away from daylight, was deaf to the song of birds, and started to no human tones (Eliot 132 133). Not only does the money deprive Silas of the access to the instinctive appreciation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These diets do not try to eliminate essential nutrients from the diet or limit food that one loves from the diet, but rather assign point values to food. Weight Watchers or Deal a Meal are some of diets that are being advertised, however, there are a lot more. No food is off the menu when you subscribe to this plan and you could still enjoy and eat what you love and crave. However, Weight Watchers assigns different food a Smart Point value. Food that are nutrient dense but relatively low calories such as complex carbohydrates, lean protein, and healthy fats are assigned low values. This means you could consume large quantities from this group without impacting your weight. Food that contain empty calorie, on the other hand, like highly processed carbohydrates, saturated fats, and added sugar stuff are assigned a higher value. One can only eat very small portions from this group to stay on target. The system is fairly easy to follow: you set the target goal, eat your favorite food from a list of stuff as long as you stay within your daily target, and shed those extra pounds of weight that you desire to lose. They, however, require more discipline to follow and may be costlier than some of the other diets that are out there. • 45. Finding A Balance 2 FINDING A BALANCE Finding a Balance: Europa Universalis IV In many ways, Europa Universalis 4 is less of a game about history, and more of a game about understanding history. In this game, you play as any nation from 1444 until 1821, from the dawn of the fall of the Western Roman Empire until the death of Napoleon, and your goals as a state are only limited by your imagination and skill. Accomplishing a world conquest is completely within the realm of possibility for a skilled player, or you could be the type of player who simply wants to form Germany or unite the Holy Roman Empire. The player can begin the game at any date during the period which the game takes place, with the map of the world being representative of the actual world at that time, but players will often find that their games do not come close to this accuracy even when the player has nothing to do with it. Because every nation is played by an AI just as long as you have been playing your nation, sometimes variation happens. From personal experience, I have seen Venice control almost all of Greece when I was playing an Asian country. It is this variation which gives the game excitement; if I knew how the game would progress every single time, I would play one game and never play again. On one hand, you have a serious, historical simulation of the world and how it progressed, and on the other hand you have a game where Ulm, a German minor, can take over the entire European continent within several hundred ... • 46. The Vampire Lestat and the Problem of Eternal Damnation Essay The problem or question of what it means to be damned is difficult to understand at the best of times, it is however all the more difficult when the subject in question is a vampire. How does a vampire that has developed God like powers and whose only way to survive is to take human life, redeem themselves in the eyes of God? This is not really an issue for Lestat; as for the majority of the Vampire Chronicles he believes himself to be a form of God. With every life that Lestat takes he is committing a mortal sin, the gravest form of sin and he does so with full knowledge and consent. With reference to Anne Rice s Vampire Chronicles and both Interview with the Vampire and Queen of the Damned motion pictures, Lestat s journey from mortal to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By their very nature, a mortal sin cuts our relationship off from God and turns man away from his creator. (Saintaquinas.com: 1) If mortal sin is a grave matter, what does the bible constitute as being a grave matter? One idea to look upon is breaking any one of the Ten Commandments, although some are not considered as grave as others. St. Paul offers us a list of such offences, which if committed will not allow the sinner to enter the Kingdom of God: The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissentions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies and the like. I warn you as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. (Galatians, 1995, 5:19 20: 824) It would be fair to assume that almost everyone is guilty of at least one of the above sins at some point in life; however, a being such as Lestat is on a different level of sin. Of course in between these levels of sin there are sins, which are considered to be of a graver nature, it is obviously a graver sin to murder than to be a drunk. From this it would be simpler to know that the latter would be considered a venial sin and not within the same gravity of a mortal sin and therefore the sinner can be saved. However bad a mortal sin is, according to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
