The New Germany
Germany immediately after the end of World War II, lay in ruins. The country s infrastructure was in
disarray. Its industry had come to a halt and its economy was ravaged, a completely new state needed
to be built to get Germany back on its feet. In addition, Germany faced cultural instabilities involving
the film industry. Along with everything else German cinema was completely destroyed. The
international reputation for German cinema was utterly discredited because of the abuse of the
medium for state propaganda and the willful collaboration of a number of German directors, actors
and producers (Strathausen). The bulk of the films produced in this time period were of poor quality
with no chance of going United States competitor. The German ... Show more content on

United States had saturated the German film market making it nearly impossible for Germany s film
industry to recover. In 1965, the Board of Trustees for Young German Film was created. They helped
financially support projects of the young filmmakers in hopes of subsidizing and promoting the film
industry. Secondly, to ensure the proper financing and distribution of its movies, many representatives
of the New German Cinema worked closely with the German TV stations (Strathausen). Playing
movies on German TV was a strategic move to revamp the industry and get German films noticed.
Thirdly, was the international success and reputation of New German Cinema, internationally German
cinema was extremely popular and commercially viable (Strathausen). Finally, the student protest
movement played an important role. Several of the young filmmakers during this period were part of
the student movement. Which resulted in a series of both critical and leftist movies about Germany s

Andrea Movie Sociology
In this movie, Andrea, a fresh graduate has grand visions of a life in journalism took on a secretary job
in Runway fashion. This movie is an ingenious pantomime of the repetitiousness of a wage slave
worker who has so much on her plate, interactions between the co workers, and tension between her
private and work life.
Andrea is under high pressure to swiftly learn Miranda s preferences and behaviors to facilitate the
smooth running of their business, in addition, to meeting her expectations. Basically, being at Miranda

The Administrative Principles of Management
The administrative principles of management, created in the early 20th century by French industrialist
Henri Fayol, changed the way that many view management. Fayol s principles focused mainly on the
management teams of businesses and helped establish a top to bottom hierarchal system to produce a
more structured organization (Brunsson, 2008; Yoo, Lemak, Choi, 2008; Fells, 2000). This essay will
focus on four of the 14 key principles of administrative theory unity of command, subordination of
individual interest for the interest of the organization, esprit de corp. and remuneration and analyze
how they have been applied in a leading New Zealand company, Pumpkin Patch Limited (Ltd.)

Although it has been adapted from Fayol s original idea, subordination of individual interest of
general interest, it is still present in Pumpkin Patch Ltd.
In a company that is downsizing, and even when it is not, Esprit de Corp is a principle that plays a
major factor in contemporary organizations today. Esprit de Corp is when a business creates, and
maintains, employee harmony, unity and morale (Fells, 2000; Rodrigues, 2001). This allows for a
happy working environment, and a happy employee means that they are more likely to achieve
productivity and efficiency outcomes. Pumpkin Patch Ltd. has adapted this to fit their family
environment that they feel the company has (Pumpkin Patch Limited, n.d.). The company believes in a
balance between work, leisure and flexibility as well as providing an in house kindergarten for
employees children (Pumpkin Patch Limited, n.d). This, although fairly minor, is a prime example of
how contemporary businesses have adapted one of the founding principles of management and
adapted it to fit their organization. As well as this Pumpkin Patch have organized their business into
teams such as the information technology (IT) team and the design team who are an integral part of
the organization in helping attain their goals and aims ( Brookes, et al., 2008). As Pumpkin Patch has

Mending the Transatlantic Rift Essay
Mending the Transatlantic Rift
The terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 ushered in an era of dramatic change for foreign policy
and the international system. Most obviously, the United States sense of invulnerability eroded as an
acute awareness to the perils of terrorism gripped the American public. In American foreign policy, the
dominant paradigms evolved. Whereas the Cold War notion of the centrality of powerful nation states
had helped order the Bush administration s outlook before the attacks, the new paradigms explicitly
accounted for the importance of non state actors and rogue regimes as the salient elements of
American foreign policy. In emphasizing rogue states, President George W. Bush focused on regime

Established as a Cold War era counterweight to Soviet power, NATO is characterized by its
commitment to democratic values and practices that, along with its unique, integrated military
structure, sustains it even at times when its members short term strategic calculations diverge.
(Hunter) In theory, then, the bonds between the United States and Europe should be close and
enduring. Indeed, the interests of the two entities have largely converged throughout NATO s half
century history despite occasional differences.
A rift has emerged in this alliance in the aftermath of the attacks of September11, 2002 that analysts
characterize as unprecedented in its scope, intensity, and, at times, pettiness. (Asmus) Immediately
after the attacks, Europe coalesced in support for the United States as sympathy for Americans
dominated public opinion. The goodwill evaporated quickly, however, when it became clear that the
United States planned to use the altered geopolitical landscape as one of the justifications for a
preemptive war to displace Saddam Hussein s dictatorial

Intellectual Progress Of Mankind By Martin Luther King Jr.
Intellectual Progress of Mankind
Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable...every step toward the goal of justice requires
sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals
Martin Luther King, Jr. Intellectual progress of mankind is the progression towards discovering the
questions about curiosity on why something is what it is or what makes something work the way that
it does. The discovery of which we make on defining, proving, and supporting scientific and
theoretical issues is a reflection of how far we have come on particular issues of study. this can be
defined as changes that take place as a result of growth in the thinking of mankind resulting from one
s capability to think, experience, reasoning judgement and ability to conceptualize. This helps
humankind to progress in different aspects of life and make advancements on daily basis in relation to
his life. Three main subject leads toward Intellectual Progress of mankind, philosophies, ideologies,
and theories which this paper examines as related themes that often intersect in educational ideas
(Gutek, 2004). Philosophy falls somewhere between the arts and sciences. On the one hand, it offers
idiosyncratic worldviews that may be too disparate to compare. It is not surprising, then, that the
question Is philosophy progressive? is hardly ever raised. From one viewpoint, it offers quirky
perspectives that might be excessively unique, making

My Passion For North Carolina Basketball
My passion for North Carolina basketball began the moment I understood what basketball was. One
evening while we were watching a game, my father, a graduate of the University of North Carolina,
declared me a fan of the Tar Heels. Without any objection, I made the decision to be a fan. Little did I
know that I would have countless memories on account of this decision.
At the young age of 7, my devotion and loyalty to the team had already grown to an emotional level. I
took each outcome personally, as though I was a part of the team myself. Already enjoying the
championship win of 2005, North Carolina fans like me were lucky to experience such success each
year. However, my expectations rose to a level that would leave me disappointed ... Show more

I was discouraged by his abandonment of the team. I decided to never leave a game no matter the
score. Although to no surprise, Kansas won. I could not believe it. A stream of tears began to run down
my face as I ran up the stairs to deliver the horrible news to my father, who was disappointed but not
surprised. I sprawled out onto the floor dispirited and let out a cry for longer than the baby had. My
father made an attempt to stop me, but my sadness was not to be argued with. Today, I laugh at the
story, impressed by the amount of passion and importance I held in a simple game.
The following year, Carolina fans returned with even higher expectations. Over the course of the
regular season, these expectations were fulfilled. Entering the tournament as a top seed with the same
starting squad, the team was faced with a similar challenge to the one that they were defeated by the
year before. Taking advantage of the Elite Eight game in Memphis, my father, brother, and I traveled
to watch the game against Oklahoma live at the FedExForum. As we entered the arena, I became
nervous considering the possibility of defeat. We found our seats and prepared for tip off. Late in the
second half, North Carolina took a sizeable lead that would put the Heels ahead for good. The confetti
that rained down put a smile on my face. Watching the players cut down the nets, I knew that I would
always be a Carolina fan. The team would continue to defeat Villanova and later

When Do Opportunity Costs Count

and management accounting experience , Victoravich asks the research question how two situational
factors, vagueness of opportunity cost presentation and stage of project completion, affect individuals
tendency to attend to opportunity costs ? (2010) Opportunity cost is a fundamental component of
classical economic theory , and defined as the value of the next highest valued alternative use of that
resource (Victoravich, 2010; Henderson, 2015). Opportunity costs are also known as trade offs. The
motivation behind this study stems from the fact that prior studies investigating the impact of implicit

For the purposes of the study, Victoravich defines vagueness as a common pitfall of real world
situations because decision makers do not have access to exact information about the costs and
benefits of all available options (2010).
In the way in which Victoravich presents prior research findings and constructs, there seems to a clear
gray area. Victoravich s presentation showcases the importance and need of additional research in
order to conducted to elaborate, clarify, and expanding on the previous findings and judgements.
Victoravich s study incorporates prior findings and seeks to the supplement the shortcomings of the
prior research studies, such as:
Shortcomings of Previous Research:
Prior research has typically presented opportunity costs in a precise manner, which is inconsistent with
how they would appear in a realistic setting.
Prior research has not investigated whether opportunity cost vagueness reduces decision makers
tendency to attend to this relevant information.
Prior research has yet to investigate the cognitive process by which attention to opportunity costs
influences judgment and decision making and whether it has a decisional consequence.

Annual Report Naval Surface Warfare Center
III. Analysis
Some of the artifacts that define the NSWC PCD culture include the Annual Report Naval Surface
Warfare Center, strategic plan, annual employee survey results and follow on actions, and display
cases in lobbies of buildings across the base, lack of a formal dress code, and flexible schedules. The
commands values can be seen in the verbiage in the artifacts, e.g. technical rigor, investing in people,
equal opportunity. After the annual employee surveys are analyzed the CO and TD meet with each
department to report the results of the survey and the action items the CO will take to address any
problems identified. Special attention is always given to analysis of demographics and diversity in
upward mobility trends. The first female department head took over the business support department
four years ago. In 2014 there were four female department heads of the six departments. However,
there is only one deputy department head at this time, and very few female division level managers. A
total of only six division or branch head positons are held by women.
Walking into the lobby of the building 110, location of all upper management offices, a visitor is met
with a plethora of display showing naval or command history, examples of items developed at the
base, CO/TD annual award personnel s pictures and write ups, and reminders of any special awards
for specific projects or events of the month. All of which server as reminders of who is in charge, or of

The Decline Of Western Culture
Schaeffer Critique
Purpose of Text and Intended Audience The purpose of the book is to discuss the decline of Western
culture by analyzing history from his perspective from Rome to his present day (the 1970 s). Schaeffer
(2005) presents the idea that to redeem society Christians must live as God desires and completely live
by the Bible s teachings of morals and values. The intended audience would be Christians, because the
entire tone of the book comes from a Christian worldview. Although, non believers may read the book,
they may not glean insights from it like believers.
Thesis and Bias Schaeffer s (2005) thesis was on how we should live now by understanding our
history and culture through philosophical, scientific, and religious knowledge. Throughout the book
Schaeffer (2005) displays bias because the book is written from a Christian perspective. Therefore, the
way history is presented is skewed due to his Christian intent.
Theoretical Assumptions and Issues One of the first concepts Schaeffer (2005) explores in the book is
the significance of peoples presuppositions of Western history. Schaeffer (2005) believes that
everyone has presuppositions and that they are gained through our family, peers, and our culture. His
issue is that Western Civilization is declining and tracing history can shed light on why and how we
should live to reverse the effects (Schaeffer, 2005).
Historical and Current Issues and Implications
The book begins in Rome. Schaeffer (2005)

Travis Hirschi s Theory Of Immigrants And Social Control...
Immigrants and Social Control Theory
For years, society has attempted to come up with reasons as to why immigrants are involved in
criminal activity at a higher rate than native born Americans. Some point to the fact that immigrants
tend to face acculturation and assimilation problems while the majority of native born Americans do
not. Some even speculate it is because immigrants tend to establish themselves in disorganized
neighborhoods that are characterized by cultural, social or biological differences which are all often
associated with crime. This relationship between immigrants and crime has been in debate for over
100 years and continues to be a controversial issue.
During the 19th century, rapid population was brought on by the migration of outsiders, notably

This is where the social theory comes in to play and approaches this relationship in a different way.
Developed in 1969 by Travis Hirschi, social control theory attempts to answer the ultimate question of
why we all do not commit crimes. Social control theories are theories of socialization in which they
consider the extent to which individuals learn certain habits, attitudes and perspectives of a society.
Hirschi suggests that individuals who have a strong and flexible bond to society will be far less likely
to engage in criminal activities or delinquent behaviors, whereas those who have weak bonds will. In
other words, the health of a group is determined by how well all the members of that group conform to
the group s norms. Sociologist Emile Durkheim explains it best in his example of a society of saints,
where although each saint was law abiding, there would still be group norms that would separate the
better saints from the less devoted (Durkheim,

Native American Sign Language Essay
Native American Sign Language Very basic, elementary and logical characteristics made the Native
American Sign Language the world s most easily learned language. It was America s first and only
universal language. The necessity for intercommunication between Indian tribes having different vocal
speech developed gesture speech or sign language (Clark; pg. 11). Although there is no record or era
dating the use of sign language, American Indian people have communicated with Indian Sign
Language for thousands of years. The signs illustrated ideas and the language conveyed a message.

are still in use around the world today. Most of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many Indians with college and university training can speak better English than they can sign talk.
Native American Sign Language was the first universal language produced by people. Every record of
the landing of Columbus on North American soil, tells of how he and his group communicated with
the Indians using sign language. The same is also true of other explorers that came to this country.
Lewis and Clark communicated successfully with the tribes of the west during their exploration
efforts. In the 17th century, the language of sign was so well understood throughout the western part
of the country that there was little difficulty in conversations being carried on between tribes, traders,
and mountain men. They could easily communicate with one another, even though neither understood
a word of the other s dialect at that time.
Basic Native American sign language is easy to learn; it is much easier to learn Indian signing than it
is to learn a spoken language. The combination of meaning and movement in signing, allows you to
learn the meaning of a gesture, while you visualize the movement. One important factor to remember
is that eighty five percent of the Native American Sign Language was done with the right hand; this
system kept the communication process very simple
Some very simple signs are easily commanded

Piglet Body Farm Analysis
My group started this Piglet Body Farm Analysis on October 4th, where we began taking notes and
observing them on a daily basis. We started with thirteen different piglets and watched them
decompose over a month s time. Each specimen had different death situations. The specimens were as
followed; Specimen 0 with clothes hanging, specimen 0 without clothes hanging, specimen 1 clothed
lying on the blacktop, specimen 2 without clothing on the blacktop, specimen 3 clothed on the grass,
specimen 4 without clothing on the grass, specimen 5 clothed partly buried, specimen 6 naked partly

specimens that have been buried in boxes one without ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gabby more specifically thought the piglet on the concrete would decompose first because it is left in
the sun. She thought the sun combined with the bugs would increase the rate of decomposition. If a
piglet was left suspended it could be placed in the shade and less bugs would reach it. Laney thought,
Yes, it might decompose slower because everything goes to the head instead of staying in the original
areas, or since everything goes to the head it might just decompose mostly in the head and everything
fall out .
Another question that we put a theory to was, Does a piglet decompose faster if it is on the grass/dirt
versus being on the cement? I, Allison, thought a piglet on the grass would decompose faster than on
the cement. Gabby thought it was more likely for decomposition to occur faster on grass because there
are more bugs in the grass. Laney also agreed the piglets on the grass would decompose faster because
bugs could reach the body faster and help with decomposition. By remaining on the cement, bugs
would not be attracted to it as

Essay On Rural Retrirification
SIGNFICANCE OF THE STUDY
This study is important because it will guide the Government in future for making decision on
expanding rural electrification program in areas without electricity and it will also encourage private
participation in coming up with Mini Electrical Energy generation in rural areas like mini hydro, wind
and Solar. It will also serve as a reference for ensuring that the Government has proper documentation
on this area so that these positive impacts of rural electrification will be clearly supported by proper
documentation and hence this will help the Government to secure more funding from Donors to
further rural electrification programs It is believed that the availability and reliability of information

Remote or rural regions lacking electricity supply face a lot of challenges for them to get connected to
Electricity. They may lie at a reasonable distance from national or regional electricity grids (remote
villages in the Amazon) and may have difficulties in getting connected to Electricity (far from urban
centers with a difficult terrain such as large rivers or jungles). Naturally they may suffer harsh climatic
conditions that render electrification through grid extension a perilous task . In adding to these
challenges, the rural poor areas without access to electricity either spend relatively large amounts of
their scarce financial resources on energy, or a disproportionate amount of time collecting firewood
from the jungle or also lead to depletion of natural resources.
Rural electrification can have a positive impact on social and economic development in the
households, farms and establishments . If rural areas are electrified they may lead to certain changes
or social/economic development at the village level as well as at the household level. At both levels,
these changes might involve employment, incomes, productivity and others. In the agricultural sector,
rural electrification might lead to changes in irrigated area enhancing changes in cropping intensity
and cropping pattern, which in turn leads to changes in the use of factors of

The Twin Of Twin Transfusion Syndrome ( Ttts )
INTRODUCTION:
Twin to twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) is a rare disease occurring in 10 15% of monochorionic
diamniotic twin gestations in which vascular connections are shared between the fetuses via a
common placenta1, 2, 3. A theoretical imbalance in the vascular distribution creates a shift in
circulation causing one fetus to receive a surplus in volume, the recipient, and the other to be
deficient, the donor4, 5. TTTS can present at any gestational age6 and can progress in severity causing
significant morbidity, especially to the recipient, and even demise of one or both twins1, 2, 6. Classic
ultrasonic markers of TTTS have been well described as an amniotic fluid imbalance between the
twins2. Several staging systems have been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of Somaliland Announced s Secession From Somalia...
Somaliland announced its secession from Somalia in 1991 and has operated as a more or less
independent country ever since. It has its own president, parliament and constitution. It even boasts a
central bank that prints its own currency, the Somaliland shilling. The peaceful existence of its three
million mostly Muslim, but secular, residents contrasts sharply with the disorder and instability of
Somalia. The world, however, has refused to recognize Somaliland. Reluctant to encourage other
separatist movements, the West remains committed to supporting the embattled Transitional Federal
Government in Somalia, which opposes its separation.
Now let me talk about the Economy in Somaliland even though Somaliland is not totally independent
country and still share a lot with Somalia when it comes to economy. In this paper I will concentrate
four aspects that s makes Somaliland economy weak or low.
Certification
Somaliland government does not have the capacity to participate in certification schemes or to provide
authenticity documentation that would enable businesses to sell goods globally. Firms instead have to
find unconventional, and often costly, workarounds. Although sesame seeds are grown in large
quantities in Somaliland in 2012 the country was the 12th largest producer in the world exporting

This means that the government of Somaliland loses money, because if the

Edward Taylor Prologue Poem Analysis
In Edward Taylor s Prologue he seeks to demonstrate the inferiority of man in respect to God s glory.
Taylor begins his piece by creating a metaphor in which his own subsidiarity to God is described in
terms of physical stature and uniqueness. He then purposefully includes phrases with erroneous meter
and imperfect rhymes to demonstrate that his inferiority extends to his abilities as a writer. Taylor
further attempts to establish his lack of authorial skills by including repetitious words, implying that
he lacks an extensive vocabulary. When combined these tactics serve to support the idea that Edward
Taylor has many shortcomings, both as a human and a poet, especially in comparison to the greatness
of God. Taylor begins demonstrating his meagerness by describing the vast inequity between physical
standing of God and man by employing a metaphor. In this metaphor, Taylor is but a mere Crumb of
Dust in comparison to the glory of God s creation (line 1). This contrast firstly demonstrates Taylor s
inadequacy when examined from a physical perspective; Taylor is but the smallest piece of dust, while
God s glory is, comparatively, almost endless in size and scope. God being larger than Edward Taylor
serves to suggest that God is thus innately superior to Taylor, as greater size implies superiority over
those with smaller builds. Therefore, Taylor is not simply seeking to suggest that God is physically
larger than himself, but instead aiming to use their difference in bodily

Relevance Of Personality And Psychopathy
10.1.4 Relevance of personality and psychopathy in general
That the personality of a manager is a critical variable in their effectiveness is supported by the case
study, aspects of Hitler s personality being characteristically consistent, starting as empty lectures as a
young drifter, and being concretised when head of state. Whether his personality was a critical
variable in his effectiveness, or whether he happened to have a series of preoccupations that
articulated a zeitgeist in post war Germany unfortunately remains a conundrum.
Regarding the question of psychopathy as a critical variable for effective leadership, the research
proposes that the critical personality and behavioural variable for effective leadership is charisma ...

In the Machiavellian matrix, the four types occupy the different sections of the diagram
Machiavellian characterised by an extreme pragmatism, with the moral valence of the actions taken
managerially are judged by the moral legitimacy and significance of the objective. (Similar to Blake
and Mouton s managerial grid concern for task)
Criminal where both bad or evil ends and means are utilised and striven for.
Kantian with a moral emphasis on the Kantian categorical imperative of treating people as ends rather
than means, such that the managerial objective in no way can justify less than ideal treatment of
subordinates. (concern for persons in the managerial grid)
Ethical, where there is goodness of task in terms of the ends, (for example the UK charitable
requirement to be working for the public good ); and within which there is an expectation of a high
level of ethical practice or means .
A second organisational moral dichotomy explored in Ch 4 above was Paine s proposal that unethical
practice may be more efficacious, and that there is a balance to be drawn between economic and
ethical acceptability. A further four square matrix places economic acceptability/efficacy on the y axis,
and ethical acceptability on the x axis.

What was the Manhattan Project and what impact did it have on the world?
Japan was affected the most by the Manhattan Project with the killing of many Japanese. Some people
agree, but some people disagree and state that the United States was affected the most. Who was
affected the most? The Manhattan Project was a secret problem barely anyone knew about. Many of
the scientists that were involved with the Manhattan Project heard about the Axis powers gaining
knowledge of how to make nuclear weapons that could destroy a whole nation. The Manhattan Project
produced two atomic bombs that were dropped on Japan. The atomic bombs were dropped on
Hiroshima and Nagasaki.Hiroshima was chosen as the target for the first atomic bomb because it was
a large port city with an army base. The bomb dropped on Nagasaki missed its target by over a mile.
The U.S demanded Japan to give up the war or the U.S would end the war in mass destruction.Japan
refused to give up their fight in the war and that gave Truman the decision to use the bombs. Japan had
no idea of any new weapons that had been made by the U.S during WW2. 1945, the first of two
atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima. On the 9th of August, the second bomb was dropped on
Nagasaki which killed many Japanese. The Japanese had officially given up their war with the U.S.
After the loss of Japan, the effects of the bombs had an impact that nobody could have guessed

Elastic Wave Filtering Properties Of Graded Undulated...
We investigate and experimentally demonstrate the elastic wave filtering properties of graded
undulated lattices. Square reticulates composed of curved beams are characterized by graded
mechanical properties which result from the spatial modulation of the curvature parameter. Among
such properties, the progressive formation of frequency bandgaps leads to strong wave attenuation
over a broad frequency range. The experimental investigation of wave transmission and the detection
of full wavefields effectively illustrate this behavior. Transmission measurements are conducted using
a scanning laser Doppler vibrometer, while a dedicated digital image correlation procedure is
implemented to capture in plane wave motion at selected frequencies. ... Show more content on

Craft Beer And The Beer Industry
From 2012 to 2014, the number of craft breweries in America has grown from 2,401 to 3,418,
representing a 42% increase. ( Number of Breweries and Brewpubs in the U.S. ) Additionally, while
US overall beer production fell 1.4% in 2013, craft beer production grew by 9.6% and now represents
7% of the total beer market. (Snider). The brewers association describes a craft brewer as small,
meaning annual production of less than 6 million barrels of beer, independent, meaning less than 25%
of the brewery is owned by non craft brewers in the alcoholic beverage industry, and traditional,
meaning the majority of beers derive flavor from traditional brewing ingredients and fermentation and
further states that these beers tend to be more expensive than mainstream brews. ( Craft Brewer )
The craft beer industry is rapidly increasing in size and the beers within it tend to be more expensive,
but little academic research exists on the perceived quality of craft versus mainstream beers. Craft
beer is widely seen as generally better than mainstream American beers such as Budweiser, Coors, and
Miller, but no academic research exists to determine how expectations of differences between craft
and mainstream beer based only on being labeled as craft can effect perceived quality and flavor.
People s expectations have widely been shown to influence both flavor experiences and neural
responding. Plassman and others (2008) demonstrated this using wine, by presenting wine to
participants that

Nursing Sensitive Value-Based Purchasing
The article Moving Healthcare Quality Forward with Nursing Sensitive Value Based Purchasing was
written by Kavanaugh, Cimiotti, Abusalem and Coty to show the importance of Nursing Sensitive
Value Based Purchasing (NSVBP). The following paper summarizes the article which addressed the
need for transparency of measures, financial incentives and the importance of skilled nurses as key
factors in improving quality in the current health system. Transparency of measures, a type of value
based purchasing, was outlined as a way to require hospitals to make information regarding various
areas of quality available to the public. Kavanaugh et. al. (2012) described several of these areas
which included incidence of healthcare associated infections (HAIs), hospital acquired conditions
(HACs), process measures, and patient satisfaction surveys. It would serve as a tool for physicians to
know the best places to send their patients when a referral is necessary. This would hold facilities
accountable and at the same time help to improve areas of concern. If hospitals provided this type of
information it would help people to make decisions as to where they could get the best quality care.

Who Is Cardiovascular System For Steady State Exercise (...
he cardiovascular system responses to steady state exercise (P4 and M2)
Heart rate is the number of times a person s heart beats per minute. When you are preforming a type of
exercise that will increase your heart rate, then your heart will pump blood all around your body faster
and especially to muscles that are working the most because they require the most oxygen because of
the intensity they are working at. It is vital to take your resting heart rate and the normal heart rate is
60 100bpm. For example, our cardiovascular exercise was cycling on a stationary bike for 20 minutes
at a reasonable pace and this will depend on whether your heart rate will increase at a slow, fast or
steady rate. However, the first 5 minutes we cycled at a very fast pace in order for your heart to pump
more blood all around the body and to the required muscles in order for them to work harder. But the
response is that the heart rate levels off, which means that it becomes steady so that after beginning
the exercise and you re like 5 minutes into it then your heart rate will stay the same or increase by
little bits unless you change the intensity all the time which is not required when doing cardiovascular
exercises.
Stroke volume is the amount of blood pumped by the left ventricle and this is measured in mL/beats.
The average resting stroke volume is 70 mL/beat and this is best measured when you wake up because
you are at you re at full rest meaning you have done nothing to increase your

Technology (S T), arguing that his great achievements were marred by an East/West comparative
approach, and that subsequent historians have only partly overcome these restrictions. His multi
volume Science and Civilization in China (1954 ongoing) single handedly thrust China into the
Western dominated historiography. Organized along the disciplinary lines of modern science,
Needham sought to document every scientific concept and technology invented in China, which he

took it as his task to document millennia of Chinese science and technology. Bringing forth thousands

century, he demonstrated, the flow of knowledge and technology had mainly gone from East to West.
The European Enlightenment, Scientific Revolution and Industrial Revolution all stood on the

Odyssey
After the ancient Greeks adopted the Phoenician alphabet around 800 BCE, they began to write down
the stories from and about their past, known as their archaiologia (Sayre, 115). For generations these
stories were pasted down by word of mouth, the two most important being the Iliad and the Odyssey,
created by an author history knows as Homer.
Widely considered the first and greatest epic poet by the ancient Greeks, Homer is credited as the
author of the epic poems the Iliad and the Odyssey. He is believed to be a bard, a singer of songs about
the deeds of heroes and the ways of the gods. His stories were part of a long standing oral tradition
that dated back to the time of the Trojan War, which is believed to have taken place around 1200 BCE
(Sayre, 115).
Homer s poems have also been a source of controversy among scholars. Until the discovery of Troy

Gel electrophoresis is a routine laboratory procedure in biochemical studies that takes advantage of a

On the other hand, the Tris HCl buffer and deionized water provides the system its shape since the
polyacrylamide complex is just a thin film of interlocking polymer fibers without any liquid to trap

Polyacrylamide gels are usually preferred over other gel types such as agarose in protein
electrophoresis because of various benefits such as its ability to be cast in various pore sizes which
provides options for the researchers who observe protein samples with various Kda s depending on
how separated they aim the bands to be or how well the sample is sieved. It is also preferred because
of its charge neutrality upon setting as it does not interfere with the electrophoresis which is highly
reliant on the sample and the surrounding s charges within the system. Lastly, the gel itself is colorless
and protein stains do not adhere to the gel so there will be minimal problems with unnecessary stains

APS and TEMED was used to initiate the binding of acrylamide to bisacrylamide via a vinyl addition

initiates the formation of the polyacrylamide complex.

Sea Otter Speech
A sea otter is the smallest marine mammal in North America, and is a part of the weasel family. They
range along the coast from San Mateo County, and South ward through Monterey County, down
through Santa Barbara county. Most animals don t have fat on them, unlike a sea otter which has
blubber to keep them warm, which is very thick. It keeps the otters warm in negative degree waters.
Their fur is made up of million hairs per square inch. Only way they keep their coats waterproof,
which they only do by hours of cleaning and grooming. Sea otters spend most of their lives cleaning
their fur to stay waterproof and warm. Most sea otters eat up to a quarter of their weight every day.
Sea otters also may hunt on the sea floor, but always come back to the top to eat its food on its chest,
and use it as a table. A sea otters diet consists of crabs, clams, crayfish, and frogs. Most otters hunt by
detecting movements in the water. Their life spans only last about 15 20 years for females and 10 15
for males. Male otters weigh up to 44 99 pounds and females weigh about 31 73 pounds. Female
otters normally have their first pup when they are about the age of four to five. Their pregnancies last
for about 4 5 months. Their babies are called pups. The pups are born anytime of the year, except the
California sea otters are born normally through January and March. When the pups are born they

The Battle of Stalingrad Led to a Significant Loss to the...
Stalingrad was a battle during World War II started on June 22 1941 that eventually led to a significant
loss to the Axis forces. The battle started as retaliation from Adolf Hitler after his defeat in the Battle
of Barbarossa. The Battle of Stalingrad was a battle of pride, morale and not based off of any tactical
or strategic advantage. The battle raged on in four main operations that lasted only 199 days. This loss
in Stalingrad dealt a significant blow to the Axis Powers that would lead to the overall defeat of
Adolph Hitler and his military during World War II. Operation Barbarossa; initiated by the Axis
powers and they quickly advanced deep into Russia. The Axis Powers believed they could defeat the
Soviet Union as soon as the winter had passed but they began receiving heavy attacks during the
winter with as much as 65% of the infantry being attacked. The Axis Powers had time to re equip and
rest their forces prior to the end of the winter. Moscow was the end state for the operation and the Axis
Powers used a Blitzkrieg style of warfare to attack the least obvious Point of Entry. Adolph Hitler

Pride and Vanity in Jane Austen s Pride and Prejudice
Pride and Vanity in Jane Austen s Pride and Prejudice
Vanity and pride are different things, though the words are often used synonymously. A person may be
proud without being vain. Pride relates more to our opinion of ourselves, vanity to what we would
have others think of us. In her novel, Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen makes the point that an excess
of pride or vanity is indeed a failing.
Pride, observed Mary, . . . is a very common failing, I believe. By all that I have ever read, I am
convinced that it is very common indeed, that human nature is particularly prone to it, and that there
are very few of us who do not cherish a feeling of self complacency on the score of some quality or
another, real or imaginary. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mr. Collins possesses a definite sense of vanity. He is in no way concerned about his own opinion of
his character, for as we see his character leaves much to be desired. All he cares about is what others
think of him. He always needs the approval of his present company. When he gives Elizabeth the
grand tour of his nothing spectacular home, he is looking for her approval of his position and
possessions. It is not important to Mr. Collins for people to like him as a person, they just had better be
impressed his status in life and his connections.
Mr. Darcy, as one of the main characters, is for the better part of the novel a focus of the theme of
pride. His pride is very obvious. It is a part of his nature and is seen in his mannerisms and in his
speech. Darcy has such a high opinion of himself that he does not care what others think of him or his
prideful actions. He believes that he is the best in every way possible and finds that his standing in
society gives him the right to be critical of those not as perfect as he.
Elizabeth Bennet, the other main character of the novel, is just as guilty of being proud as any of the
other characters in the novel. She prides herself on being unprejudiced and rational in the judgement
of others. Yet, this is an imaginary quality as she learns that her preconceived notions of both Mr.

Subliminal Messages Of Gender-Role Stereotypes
Subliminal and direct messages of gender role stereotyping can be found in advertisements for
children s toys, television cartoons, foods, and many other items that are marketed towards young
children. Specifically, children in the age ranges of six to ten years old. For example, McDonald s
Restaurant has a new Happy Meal commercial that runs often on television. Actually, it is a set of
commercials advertising Cuties, a brand of mandarin oranges, as a healthier alternative in their
McDonald s Happy Meal. In one commercial, there are two young boys and an adult male sitting in a
kitchen playing with Hot Wheels and in the commercial the boys begins discussing calculations,
centripetal force, and making ramps as they calculate the force needed ... Show more content on

At the end of the school day, she gets into the car with dad and he hands her a McDonald s Happy
Meal with a Cuties inside and finally the little girl smiles. As cute as the commercial is, the subliminal
message of the two commercials are what concerns me. The boys are playing with cars and using
intelligent math language and the little girl is worried about her pretty smile. However, the product in
the two commercials are the same but the portrayals of the children in the commercials are vastly
different. The commercials are examples of the types of gender role stereotyping that occurs often in
advertisement. Advertisements that push gender role stereotypes on young children should be banned
from television. Television advertisement are among the leading ways children are exposed to
stereotypes that causes misguided concepts and ideologies associated with sex or gender. Martin
Eistend (2010) conducted a meta analysis study which stated that, gender stereotyping can lead to
negative consequences that restrict life opportunities, particularly for

The Center For Child And Family Policy
Although critics such as Stanley Fish believe that institutes of higher education should not promote
civic engagement, universities such as Duke University heavily push students to become more
civically and politically engaged, even making certain courses have requirements to complete a
service component. Numerous civic engagement programs exist at Duke that offer different services
and opportunities for students to engage with the community. Duke University s Center for Child and
Family Policy offers a civic engagement program the School Research Partnership (SRP), which
attempts to address issues of education inequity and achievement. To understand the vastness of civic

In 1988, Duke University hired former Ph.D. student Kenneth Dodge, a clinical and developmental
psychologist from Vanderbilt, to lead the effort. Thus, on July 1, 1999, the Center for Child and

The Center fellows focus their research on the effect of economic distress on child development, early
childhood, the development of risky behaviors, childhood mental illness, and a wide range of
education policy issues including school truancy, charter schools, teacher training and education
reform efforts. From August 2003 to July 2009, the Center conducted the largest violence prevention
study that the National Institute of Mental Health has ever funded. In addition, the Center houses the
Center for Adolescent Risk and Resilience (C*StARR), a research project that studies the biology and
behavior producing teen substance abuse. The Center can give journalists expert explanations on the
above topics, as well as child abuse prevention, youth violence prevention, children and technology,
parenting across cultures, single mothers and more. The Center provided evaluations of programs that
can positively affect the lives of children. They have worked with federal granting agencies, the state

Running Head: ORGANIZATIONAL PROFILE
Introduction
In this paper, we will explore the magical experience of Walt Disney Company through the structure
and symbolic frames based on the Bolman and Deal?s individual lens. The structural frame focuses on
the architecture of an organization and other features like: rules, regulations, goals, policies, roles,
tasks, job designs, job descriptions, technology, chain of command, vertical and horizontal
coordinating mechanisms, assessment and reward systems, and many more (Bolman, L., Deal, T.
2013). The symbolic frame focuses on the culture, meaning, metaphor, ritual, ceremony, stories,
heroes and inspiration of the organization (Bolman, L., Deal, T. 2013). On this analysis I will also
explain the organization?s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats that impact the leadership,
partners, employees and community internally and externally.

The Significance Of The Confederate Flag
The Confederate Battle Flag was once known as the Southern Cross and represented the eleven states
in the Confederacy, along with Kentucky and Missouri. The Confederate flag was used to identify the
people who still believed in the institution of slavery and did not agree with its abolishment.
Additionally, the flag was a popular symbol for white supremacy. With the stigma it possesses, it is
not surprising that people today are upset that the flag is still widely flown. This is seen especially
when it is showcased on government buildings. A government speaks for the people of that area. By
having the flag on its building, it is saying that the people still believe in what the flag represents.
There is a lot of controversy regarding the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

people are unhappy, they should try to do something to fix it. A person could choose to write a letter if
they don t agree with all of the parts of a petition; as they might have a slightly different opinion that
they want to be heard. The only problem with this idea is that a letter only allows a person to hear
from one individual. The letter has to be extremely well written, very explained, and detailed in order
to even be heard. The government could possibly have no idea that the flag is causing controversy, but
by bringing it to their attention, they might reconsider flying

Essay on The Real Hero of Titus Andronicus
The Real Hero of Titus Andronicus
I found Rome a city of bricks and left it a city of marble Augustus Caesar (63 BC 14 AD)
In his essay, Titus Andronicus and the Mythos of Shakespeare s Rome, Robert Miola uncovers and
explores the myths Shakespeare uses as bedrock for the background and plot of his first Roman
tragedy, Titus Andronicus. Most notably, Miola discusses two Ovidian myths, The Rape of Philomela
and The World s Four Ages. The Rape provides Shakespeare with his basic characters and the events
involving Lavinia, his Philomela, while Ovid s fourth age of iron describes Shakespeare s physical
Rome, a quintessentially iron city, writes Miola, a military establishment protected by walls and filled
with sword carrying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rather than this being a singular interpretation, I think my reading directly supports the heterogeneity
of the city s... character of which Miola speaks.
All the persons Shakespeare depicts in Titus are two dimensional, either good or bad. The dividing
line falls between those who support Titus, the tragic warrior hero, and those on the side of Tamora,
the evil Queen empress. The former are noble and selfless, demonstrating roman pietas, while the
latter are ignoble and selfish. In Jack E. Reese s essay, The Formalization of Horror in Titus
Andronicus, he makes the point that Tamora and her sons allegorical dressing up as Revenge, Murder,
and Rapine can be viewed as a symbol of the characterization of the entire work (Horror 79). In this
scene, they are as they are, the symbol is exactly the same as the person. The only two characters who
might be said to escape the dichotomy are Titus and Aaron the Moor. In Rome, Titus sacrifices both
his son and his daughter, says Miola, on the alter of his own personal honor (Family 67). It is fair to
say that personal honor is his concern in killing his offspring, for Mutius represents shameful filial
disobedience (or mutiny) and Lavinia represents his inability to protect her and is a reminder of a
shameful act done not only to her, but to her whole Andronici family too. It

The Administrative Principles of Management The administrative principles of management, created in the early 20th century by French industrialist Henri Fayol, changed the way that many view management. Fayol s principles focused mainly on the management teams of businesses and helped establish a top to bottom hierarchal system to produce a more structured organization (Brunsson, 2008; Yoo, Lemak, Choi, 2008; Fells, 2000). This essay will focus on four of the 14 key principles of administrative theory unity of command, subordination of individual interest for the interest of the organization, esprit de corp. and remuneration and analyze how they have been applied in a leading New Zealand company, Pumpkin Patch Limited (Ltd.) (Samson Daft, 2009, p.64; Wren, Bedian, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although it has been adapted from Fayol s original idea, subordination of individual interest of general interest, it is still present in Pumpkin Patch Ltd. In a company that is downsizing, and even when it is not, Esprit de Corp is a principle that plays a major factor in contemporary organizations today. Esprit de Corp is when a business creates, and maintains, employee harmony, unity and morale (Fells, 2000; Rodrigues, 2001). This allows for a happy working environment, and a happy employee means that they are more likely to achieve productivity and efficiency outcomes. Pumpkin Patch Ltd. has adapted this to fit their family environment that they feel the company has (Pumpkin Patch Limited, n.d.). In American foreign policy, the dominant paradigms evolved. Whereas the Cold War notion of the centrality of powerful nation states had helped order the Bush administration s outlook before the attacks, the new paradigms explicitly accounted for the importance of non state actors and rogue regimes as the salient elements of American foreign policy. The discovery of which we make on defining, proving, and supporting scientific and theoretical issues is a reflection of how far we have come on particular issues of study. this can be defined as changes that take place as a result of growth in the thinking of mankind resulting from one s capability to think, experience, reasoning judgement and ability to conceptualize. This helps humankind to progress in different aspects of life and make advancements on daily basis in relation to his life. Three main subject leads toward Intellectual Progress of mankind, philosophies, ideologies, and theories which this paper examines as related themes that often intersect in educational ideas (Gutek, 2004). One evening while we were watching a game, my father, a graduate of the University of North Carolina, declared me a fan of the Tar Heels. Without any objection, I made the decision to be a fan. Little did I know that I would have countless memories on account of this decision. At the young age of 7, my devotion and loyalty to the team had already grown to an emotional level. I sprawled out onto the floor dispirited and let out a cry for longer than the baby had. My father made an attempt to stop me, but my sadness was not to be argued with. Today, I laugh at the story, impressed by the amount of passion and importance I held in a simple game. The following year, Carolina fans returned with even higher expectations. Over the course of the regular season, these expectations were fulfilled. Entering the tournament as a top seed with the same starting squad, the team was faced with a similar challenge to the one that they were defeated by the year before. Taking advantage of the Elite Eight game in Memphis, my father, brother, and I traveled to watch the game against Oklahoma live at the FedExForum. Schaeffer (2005) presents the idea that to redeem society Christians must live as God desires and completely live by the Bible s teachings of morals and values. The intended audience would be Christians, because the entire tone of the book comes from a Christian worldview. Although, non believers may read the book, they may not glean insights from it like believers. Thesis and Bias Schaeffer s (2005) thesis was on how we should live now by understanding our history and culture through philosophical, scientific, and religious knowledge. Throughout the book Schaeffer (2005) displays bias because the book is written from a Christian perspective. Therefore, the way history is presented is skewed due to his Christian intent. Theoretical Assumptions and Issues One of the first concepts Schaeffer (2005) explores in the book is the significance of peoples presuppositions of Western history. Schaeffer (2005) believes that everyone has presuppositions and that they are gained through our family, peers, and our culture. His issue is that Western Civilization is declining and tracing history can shed light on why and how we should live to reverse the effects (Schaeffer, 2005). Some even speculate it is because immigrants tend to establish themselves in disorganized neighborhoods that are characterized by cultural, social or biological differences which are all often associated with crime. Hirschi suggests that individuals who have a strong and flexible bond to society will be far less likely to engage in criminal activities or delinquent behaviors, whereas those who have weak bonds will. In other words, the health of a group is determined by how well all the members of that group conform to the group s norms. Naturally they may suffer harsh climatic conditions that render electrification through grid extension a perilous task . In adding to these challenges, the rural poor areas without access to electricity either spend relatively large amounts of their scarce financial resources on energy, or a disproportionate amount of time collecting firewood from the jungle or also lead to depletion of natural resources. Taylor begins his piece by creating a metaphor in which his own subsidiarity to God is described in terms of physical stature and uniqueness. He then purposefully includes phrases with erroneous meter and imperfect rhymes to demonstrate that his inferiority extends to his abilities as a writer. Taylor further attempts to establish his lack of authorial skills by including repetitious words, implying that he lacks an extensive vocabulary. When combined these tactics serve to support the idea that Edward Taylor has many shortcomings, both as a human and a poet, especially in comparison to the greatness of God. Taylor begins demonstrating his meagerness by describing the vast inequity between physical standing of God and man by employing a metaphor. In this metaphor, Taylor is but a mere Crumb of Dust in comparison to the glory of God s creation (line 1). This contrast firstly demonstrates Taylor s inadequacy when examined from a physical perspective; Taylor is but the smallest piece of dust, while God s glory is, comparatively, almost endless in size and scope. God being larger than Edward Taylor serves to suggest that God is thus innately superior to Taylor, as greater size implies superiority over those with smaller builds. Therefore, Taylor is not simply seeking to suggest that God is physically larger than himself, but instead aiming to use their difference in bodily ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Whether his personality was a critical variable in his effectiveness, or whether he happened to have a series of preoccupations that articulated a zeitgeist in post war Germany unfortunately remains a conundrum. • 29. Elastic Wave Filtering Properties Of Graded Undulated... We investigate and experimentally demonstrate the elastic wave filtering properties of graded undulated lattices. Square reticulates composed of curved beams are characterized by graded mechanical properties which result from the spatial modulation of the curvature parameter. Among such properties, the progressive formation of frequency bandgaps leads to strong wave attenuation over a broad frequency range. The experimental investigation of wave transmission and the detection of full wavefields effectively illustrate this behavior. Transmission measurements are conducted using a scanning laser Doppler vibrometer, while a dedicated digital image correlation procedure is implemented to capture in plane wave motion at selected frequencies. ... The following paper summarizes the article which addressed the need for transparency of measures, financial incentives and the importance of skilled nurses as key factors in improving quality in the current health system. Transparency of measures, a type of value based purchasing, was outlined as a way to require hospitals to make information regarding various areas of quality available to the public. Kavanaugh et. al. When you are preforming a type of exercise that will increase your heart rate, then your heart will pump blood all around your body faster and especially to muscles that are working the most because they require the most oxygen because of the intensity they are working at. It is vital to take your resting heart rate and the normal heart rate is 60 100bpm. For example, our cardiovascular exercise was cycling on a stationary bike for 20 minutes at a reasonable pace and this will depend on whether your heart rate will increase at a slow, fast or steady rate. However, the first 5 minutes we cycled at a very fast pace in order for your heart to pump more blood all around the body and to the required muscles in order for them to work harder. But the response is that the heart rate levels off, which means that it becomes steady so that after beginning the exercise and you re like 5 minutes into it then your heart rate will stay the same or increase by little bits unless you change the intensity all the time which is not required when doing cardiovascular exercises.
