Similarities Between The Odyssey And The Penelopiad
History is told in the viewpoint of the victor. For thousands of years, a wrong in a textbook may
not be correct until one person speaks up. Hatred, rumors, and the true happenings of ancient event
are often concealed until more accounts of the event are heard. The Odyssey, for thousands of
years only had one major part of the story Odysseustelling of the tale. His wife, only had few
things said about her in Odysseus s epic telling of his journey. What she experienced at home was
much different from what Odysseus did on his journey. In the epic poem The Odyssey, and the book
The Penelopiad , Penelope was portrayed much differently. If Penelope s version of the story had
never been told, she would be seen only as a faithful,

Child Discrimlect And Neglect
Throughout the world many children are vulnerable to some form of neglect, which unfortunately
can result in what is known as neglect trauma . Traumas are said to be the emotional, physiological,
or psychological response to a terrible event according to the American Psychological Association.
Researchers have dedicated their efforts to understand trauma, to become aware of the different
types of traumas that exist and to also understand the possible effects that traumas have on children
according to their age groups, level of exposure and understanding towards the trauma. But,
unfortunately studies have not yet directly proven or identify definite causes of child neglect.
Child neglect is a very common form of child abuse globally and ... Show more content on

According to Levinson (1981), the presence or existence of different forms of family violence in
a home that may not directly involve a child, are too related to the abuse of the child in ways
such as emotionally or psychologically. It is understood that the concerns of child neglect are not
always priorities of some countries as many tend to overlook the fact that child neglect is real, that
it is possible, that it is present among the children of their country. Countries have the tendency to
define child abuse and neglect based on local definitions, traditions, cultures, politics and priorities.
If forms of child abuse and neglect go unheard of or unrecognized by a society, the need for
providing a valid definition of child maltreatment, or conducting necessary research based on the
topic would not come into effect or taken into account.
The National Incidence Study of Child abuse and Neglect, pointed out that a large number of
children who experience emotional and physical abuse are usually those of the black population,
when in comparison to the White population in

Conversation On The Plurality Of Worlds Analysis
Men have dominated and control the scientific world for decades. Men often thought that they were
the superior sex and that they had a better understanding of science and how to conduct
experiments. Many men regarded women as less superior because they believed that females did
not have the mental capacities and resources to understand how science, nature and the universe
works and that women are too emotional. However, through the founding of the Royal Society by
King Charles II women was slowly allowed to enter the scientific world, conduct their own
experiments and published their own writings. Through plays like the Conversation On The
Plurality Of Worlds by Bernard le Bovier de Fontenelle and The Virtuoso by Thomas Shadwell it

The reason why science was considered a masculine occupation is because many men believed that
the male gender is better at controlling their emotions and separating their emotions from
themselves thus not letting their emotions cloud their judgment. However the common belief about
women are that they are a too emotional creatures who will let their emotions cloud their judgment
and reason thus not providing accurate results in their experimentation. But over time men started
to see the benefits of allowing women in the world of science. Females are better at observing
animals and plants in their natural habitat than males. Females are better at noticing the small
details of plants and classifying them into the different species and genus which made botany the
perfect scientific field for women. This was the first major step in changing the perspective of
science as a male dominated field to a more gender neutral field. Another major step in allowing
women to join the science field came through the plays by Fontenelle and Shadwell who both made
their protagonist young women with some understanding of

Expanding the FMLA in CAlifornia Essay
Problem Identification
Every day in California, working men and women face conflicts between their work
responsibilities and their families. In order to work they must make arrangements for their children
and elderly family members who need assistance. They address these conflicts through a variety of
child care, after school, and eldercare arrangements. But sometimes when a child is seriously ill,
an aging parent s health deteriorates suddenly, or a baby is born or adopted, these daily
arrangements are no longer adequate. At such times of family need, an employee simply must take
time off from work because no alternative care arrangements will do. That is why in 1993,
Congress passed the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), which was ... Show more content on

That is why expanding the law to cover businesses with 25 49 employees would give 13 million
more Americans the right to take FMLA leave. The National Partnership for Women amp; Families
has analyzed the most recent available employment data to show what this expansion would mean
for California. If California were to somehow expand the FMLA coverage to businesses with 25 49
employees it would make the following differences.
Size of Employer (# of employees)
Private Sector 50+ 25 49 Total (25+)
# Employees covered 5,813,391 1,518,241 7,331,632
% Employees covered 55.5% 14.5% 70.0%
# Employers covered 37,145 50,109 87,254
% Employers covered 4.1% 5.5% 9.6%
If this proposition were to be made, California would rank 1st in the nation for the number of
people newly covered by the FMLA, giving 1,518,241 more people in California the right to take
FMLA leave. An additional 14.5% of California s private employees would be newly covered by
the FMLA, and 70% of all employees in California s private

Essay about The Adventures Of Tom Sawyer
Mark Twain uses the story to reveal his own childhood; as a result, many details in the book,
such as the characters and the setting are very dear to his heart. The story is about life in a boy s
world, it tells about the feelings Mark Twain had regarding his childhood, his town, and the people
that lived there. The time period is about twenty years before the Civil War, and the setting is in St.
Petersburg, Missouri, a small community on the Mississippi River. The main character in the book
is Tom Sawyer. Throughout the book, the author compares himself to Tom and his adventures. Tom

him with his evil. All the people of St. Petersburg know that he is evil; each is too frightened to
confront him because they, like Tom and Huck, know that he will get revenge in a violent manner.
Injun Joe is the same at the end as he is in the beginning; he does not vary through the course of
the events in which he is involved. He plans to harm the Widow Douglas in retaliation for
something her late husband did years earlier. Twains states in the story He had me horsewhipped!

Black Magic In The Tempest
In The Tempest , there are two different types of magic that are being explored, one is the art of
evil through the use of Black Magic and the other being the study of meta physics and the
unknown through the use of White Magic. The black aspect of magic is revealed through the
character of the evil witch Sycorax. The white aspect of magicis revealed through the well
developed character of Prospero, the rightful Duke of Milan. The good aspect of magic is
developed to a much greater extent than the evil aspect of magic. The black magic, whether in the
form of alchemy, astrology, or temptation, deceives with half truths and riddles that lure a person
with false promises, white magic is the art of bringing out the potential that inheres in nature, seeing

Religious Conflict In Beowulf
Jeskin howard p#8th 9/18/17

ideals of pride and eternal reward. In beowulf, there are situations where the main character does
things for fame and rewards instead of the greater goods of the people of kingdom .
In beowulf there is a conflict between morals seen by the christian religion and human humility .
throughout the christian view it is said or felt that man can and will survive only through the
protection of God, that all earthly gifts flow from God, and that the proper bearing of man is to be
humble and unselfish. Afterwards a boy child was sent to Shield, a cub in the yard, a comfort scent

Government And Its Effect On The Good Of A Country
It all depends on what any certain country needs from its government in order to determine if a
policy or type of government s strengths would be more beneficial compared to the possibility
of corruption occurring. In each of the article that were in review, each author not only theorized
why a certain type of government, be it a main type or hybrid type of government, and its
incorporated policies work for a county, but also gave example of how the for mentioned can be
used for something other than the good of a country. While, there are guidelines that help to
keep a government or policy from being used in a way that is not for the good of a country.
Unfortunately, Policies can be used in a negative way in order to be used for leverage in order to
accomplish the ambitions of a politician or government leader. For some governmental
politicians work for what they want, such as re election, more power or monetary gain.
Therefore, countries have a type of government and or policy that have been proven ineffective
due to having these politicians that do not have the good of the country in mind. Linz felt that
compared to a presidential democracy, that parliamentary regimes created a more stable means of
governing. In a presidential there are a few things he argued that made the presidential
government more prone to breaking down. He feels this way because in a presidential

Suffering Of The Good Samaritan
Suffering performs a significant function in numerous religions, concerning situations like:
consolation or relief; moral behavior, spiritual development through life difficulties or through self
enforced trials, and final destiny. It is supplemented in the Hebrew Bible by the verses found in the
Book of Isaiah and the Book of Jeremiah. They detail the emotional and physical suffering of a
defeated nation with its vanquished residents compelled into the suffering of expulsion and
confinement in a foreign nation. In the New Testament, suffering is depicted in the life of Jesus,
which recounts the suffering of the crucifixion, and in the Easter story. The suffering connected
with punishment is additionally depicted in the Apocalypse of John where suffering at the setting
of the Last Judgment is portrayed as the just compensation for sin and unlawful activity. Pope John
Paul II wrote On the Christian Meaning of Human Suffering. This article focuses on the idea of
redemptive suffering. The parable of the Good Samaritan belongs to the Gospel of suffering. For it
indicates what the relationship of each of us must be towards our suffering neighbour...This is the
meaning of suffering, which is truly supernatural and at the same time human. It is supernatural
because it is rooted in the Divine mystery of the Redemption of the world...deeply human, because
in it the person discovers himself, his own humanity, his own dignity, his own mission. The

Brothers, Ram And Carl Grimm And The Grimm Brothers
Brothers, Jacob Carl Grimm and Wilhelm Carl Grimm are known world wide as The Grimm
Brothers . These authors are famous for their work in the history and structure of the German
language and its relationship to other languages as well as, German folklore, tales and literature.
Through their lifelong research into the German language they created their own Dictionary called,
Grimm Law. The Brothers also, published more than two hundred and ten German folk tales that
they created from the stories that the villagers and peasants told them. Originally, these stories
were written for adult readers and considered inappropriate for children. Many of their stories
have been adapted by companies like Disney that want to turn them into appropriate children
stories or movies. Philipp and Dorothea Grimm had nine children, all of which, did not survive to
adulthood. Jacob, was the oldest surviving of the Grimm siblings. He was born January 4, 1785 in
Hanau, Germany, to Philipp and Dorothea Grimm. One year later, on February 24, 1786
Wilhelm was born, also in Hanau. They would have six more children before Philipp passed
away in 1796. In 1798, Jacob and Wilhelm attend secondary school in Kassel, Germany where
they lived with their aunt while acquiring an education. Dorothea, raised her six children until
1808 when she passed away. At 23 years old, Jacob is left to raise his 5 younger surviving siblings.

The Acceptance Of The Green Girdle In Sir Gawain s
Sir Gawain s acceptance of the green girdle and refusal to hand it over to Bertilak is Sir Gawain

weaknesses within the character of Sir Gawain. He was, up until the point where he accepted the
agreement with the lord s wife to leave Bertilak in the dark about the girdle, behaving as
chivalrous as would seem possible considering the curious circumstances of having to be courteous
to the lord s wife who is propositioning herself to him and also remain faithful to his host, coupled
with the rules of their game. It is Sir Gawains natural and human fear of death that causes him to

that causes him to omit to surrender it to the lord, and it is his fear of death which causes him to...

This can be compared to the general desires of Sir Gawain and more particularly his flinch

that the fox endures is contrasted with that of the boar, the fox is later regarded as ignoble, the

Essay on Citizenship
Stating that I m a American citizen I really can t explain what the role of a Canadian citizen would
be. So I m just going to talk about what I understand the role of a American citizen should be in the
U.S.
As American citizen I feel as though participating in the political process should become a law in
the U.S because many American bicker and complain about their local mayor, representatives, or
the president, but the citizens who complain are those that do not get out in vote. These citizens go
on national T.V and bash political parties and cause big arguments but yet couldn t even take out

One situation I don t understand is how some citizens argue that millionaires make to much and that
athletes make to much and that their being paid to much stipend. I feel as though its not the athletes
fought that their gifted with such talents. If you look at it they deserve the stipend their receiving
because athletes bring in billions and billion of dollars a year so i figure they should get their
share of the revenue also. I don t think they should be criticized for not donating in fact I ve found
to believe that 80% of pro athletes donate more than 10,000$ a year to a charitable fund or
organization. Just because the money is not personally given to you doesn t mean the athletes are
not sharing their millions.
I believe as time goes citizenship will get to be more of a issue than it is now. I do believe
citizens form others countries will only have a certain amount of time to leave in the U.S before
their imported. The reason why is that with the U.S being in trillion dollar deficit I just don think
we will be able to afford others citizens.
All in all I enjoy being a American citizen and I believe in due time Americans will realize that
doing the right is what s best and being lazy make situations no better. Americans citizens go thru a
lot every year but some how we make the best of situation sometimes so as a American

Why Cheating Is Wrong
Would you believe that 80 to 95 percent of high school students admit to cheating at least one
time in the past year? (2nd source). Students use many tactics for cheating because they do not
understand the subject, or they stress the need to be successful. I believe, because of
transformation of cheating and lack of disciplinary consequences, cheating has become more
prevalent in schools in our society. The first idea to understand about cheating is the many forms
of how they are carried out. As technology has grown and evolved to what it is today, it has
opened many more ways of cheating to occur and causes the temptation to be much easier to
pursue. But first, there is the most basic form of cheating that we all know and it is by simply
looking off another student s paper. Whether it would be for homeworkor a test, it is more
commonly used to copy for a test. Next, students may get together and have one person to one half
of the homework while the other does the other half, then they both exchange papers and copy each
others answers. Through the wonderful world of technology, cheating and plagiarizing is very easy
to encounter, even without us realizing it. Students use Internet sources to look up answers for
school work and use those answers as their own. What they fail to do is properly source their
information. When this happens, they do not give credit to the information source, and it could cost
the student a zero for the schoolwork, in the class, or worse they get

The Importance Of Teachers On The Classroom Environment
In order to develop strong relationships with my students, colleagues, and parents, I plan to do a
variety of little things to yield big results. The relationship that teachers have with students is vital
to the classroom environment. In You ve Got to Reach Them to Teach Them, Mary Kim Schrek
writes that the human encounter between teacher and student is often a more powerful teaching
tool than the academic content, the grade, the data analysis, and the hours spent picking apart the
curriculum (Schrek, 2011, p. 5). In order to establish such relationships, I plan to follow a four step
procedure that I read about in an article by Nina Sears on the National EducationAssociation s
website. Sears article suggests that a teacher get to know their students, individualize the
curriculum, watch what they say, and keep trying to reach students (Sears, 2014). As an attempt
to get to know my students, I will create a little survey on the first day of school for each student
to fill out; questions would include asking my students what their favorite color is or what type
of books they like to read. By doing this, I will learn about my students likes and dislikes and
how to use their answer in the curriculum. Individualizing the curriculum might seem like a huge
undertaking but if a teacher is willing to work with the student, it is not a big deal. For example, I
was an auditory learner and I had a teacher who altered the project requirements so I could write a
song to

The Importance Of Equality In The Same Sex Community
On June 2015, same sex marriage was declared legal across the nation. The reason that #lovewins
became a movement was because for years same sex couples in many states were denied Marriage.
( Adam Liptak,2015) The purpose of this online social movement was to shed light on the need of
equality in the the same sex community because the same sex community are still being treated
unfair. The same sex community is also known as the LGBTcommunity stands for lesbian, gay,
bisexual and transgender and along with heterosexual(lgbt.ie).
There were many Past issues on homosexuals being treated unfair, for example, police
harassment, History.com stated that on June 28 1969 in New York the Stonewall riots were
taking place. Later in the night a little after three a.m., police raided Stonewall Inn, a gay
nightclub, which then turned into a riot protested by homosexuals. Even though the police had a
reason to raid their nightclubs , for serving liquor without a liquor license. New york s gay
community had gotten tired of the law enforcement targeting gay clubs, many of which that have
been closed. The rioters then began to throw bottles at the police and made their way into the
neighborhood streets of new York, the riot didn t end until the police called in their riot police.
The riot was then followed by continuous days of demonstrations in New York and also was the
reason for the start of a formation of the Gay Liberation Front as well as other same sex and

Importance Of Writing Reflection
When I had signed up for this class, I thought it was going to be similar to a humanities course. I
thought that we would be learning about how journaling has evolved and various ways to journal.
As the class progressed, I found it to be more of an art than a humanities class. When this reality
did not match my expectation, I was disappointed. I had to challenge myself to get the most out of
this course by changing my attitude and adjusting my perspective.
As an art class, this would have been an excellent idea and well executed. Being able to learn
about different materials, binding techniques, and adhesives were helpful in the creation of
journals, but it was not what I had expected. One thing that stands out to me was the research
paper, it just did not seem to fit into the class very well. Most of the students did not know how
to use Chicago Style referencing properly and there was not any class time allotted to learning it
nor to working on the essays. It seemed to be used to check a box rather than to help our
understanding. I think that this essay would have fit into the course much better if we had been
spending time in class learning about various historical journalists and how their work impacted the
region in which it was created. It just did not seem as though our homework matched our class
work, so I was a little thrown off. This imbalance was especially apparent because the room was
deemed technology free, so we could not even work on our essays while in class.

no means the last steep hill we would encounter. I stood up straight and did a quick stretch as I

neighborhoods of cream stucco with their brick red ceramic or bright, tin roofs. The cityscape

Analysis Of The Movie The Night Rashida
night, but now that Tucker was camped out at their table Denny was going to have no chance. *
Next morning Denny was up early. He considered it a miracle he hadn t gotten drunk last night,
especially being at The Wild Bull, but he wasn t so sure he d be able to accomplish the same feat
today. And what had happened last night was adding to his stress because he d been unable to
learn from Brig, who talked to Rufus Tucker all night, what he knew about the night Rashida was
killed. And who was this Rufus Tucker character anyway? He was probably one of Brig s war
buddies, but he was older and one hell of a loudmouth. Whatever. Denny showered, shaved and

Let s make this official. Do you want to retain me as your attorney? He shrugged. Just say yes.
Yes. Do you have a dollar? Denny reached for his wallet. Uh huh. She nodded. Give it to me. He
did. Now sign this. She handed him a piece of paper and a pen. He signed and handed it back.
Okay, now that you ve requested I be your attorney and you ve paid a retainer and signed a
contract we have established attorney client privilege, and that means that from now on
anything you tell me is between just you and me. No police officer or lawyer or judge can force
either of us to reveal any of it. Do you understand? I think so, yes. So, now what I want you to do

everything you were doing at the time of the murder. Denny had known that was coming. Ugh.

The Negative Impacts Of Social Media And Its Impact On...
In today s era, everyone is utilizing technology tools in everyday tasks. People in general depend
on technology tools and sites to accomplish their specific tasks in their lives. Nowadays, we have
different types of technologies which impact our daily life in different ways. Unlike the past,
individuals were limited to writing letters and waiting for responds to be delivered from one of
the post offices or services. There has been a shift in the way we share or exchange information,
news, and ideas with each other. Several years ago, human used to connect face to face.
Whereas, people now frequently prefer computer mediated communications. Now, societies are
becoming more social and interactive with others compared to the past years, but the way or the
style of that communication has changed significantly. Despite the fact that technology has
several positive impacts, there are three key issues regarding the role of social media that plays
a major part in our communication patterns between individuals. The first negative consequence
of social media is the lack of privacy and security. When people communicate through social
media, messages tend to be more wide open. Therefore, there are many negative consequences
that are associated with the use of open networking sites. As a consequent of using them in all
areas, it increases the risk of hackers when they get into personal accounts. This might cause a
big problem, especially when it comes to spread important information. Moreover, they might
increase the risk of identity theft, cyberbullying within social media, and a high rate of crimes
because of spreading or sending messages or images in order to scare people and danger them.
Open access to online messages and share files or documents can lead to huge privacy and
security issues in our daily life. To conclude, privacy and personal security issues are the results of
using open networking sites all the time. Making superficial relationships is the second key issue of
modern technology on society. Even though social media is strongly connected to our social
relationships, it is effecting our relationships negatively. We can see in

Theme Of Revenge In Beowulf
Beowulf spoke ,son of Ecgtheow:/ Do not grieve, wise sir.It always better/to avenge ones friend than

Explain the role of mourning or revenge in Beowulf
Revenge is a central theme in Beowulf and induces many characters throughout the poem.
Initially we see the infuriation that infests Grendel and the instant revenge and destruction he
conveys upon Beowulf s kingdom.Revenge almost motivates and acts as a fuel to the fire
Grendel is experiencing .We are introduced to the character of Grendel in line 86 of the poem and
we are given an immediate explanation of what type of creature he is , a monster , a demon. Then a
powerful demon, a prowler through the dark nursed a hard grievance
(Unknown, Beowulf ,lines 86 87).Grendel has a soul purpose to demolish the kingdom due to the
pain and suffering he has to live with because of the fate and heritage he was given when he ...

Grendles mother is another key character surrounding the theme of revenge . Personally I find the
character of Grendles mother extremely thought provoking and I found myself drawn to look into
the character in more detail.
When Grendel returns to his lair surpassingly injured this sparks the motivation of revenge
within his mother .As a character she is perceived as a monster yet in the eyes of a twenty first
century reader she is merely a woman who is grieving her sons death and retaliating towards
those who murdered him . Revenge does not have to be associated with malice and evil , as she
was a woman she was labelled monster due to her rash decisions and thirst for vengeance. In the
time of the text, women were supposed to be gentle peace keepers any woman who acted out of
the ordinary had to deal with major consequences ,exile or assassination. Her revenge was not out
of spite ,it was purely fuelled by a mothers fury

Honesty Quotes In Othello
In act 1 Othello says to Iago My life upon her faith! Honest Iago, / My Desdemona must I leave to
thee (1.3.297 8). One could argue this sentence is the essence of the whole play. First looking at
my life upon her faith . Throughout the whole play, Iago is able to corrupt Othello s faith in
Desdemona, pretty easily. Iagoreally gives Othellono solid proof in regard to Desdemonas infidelity.
Yet Othello is so quick to believe him. This line continues with Othello having Iago s wife, Emilia,
attend to Desdemona. And while Emilia comes to the realization of her mistakes in the end, she
plays a pretty major role in Desdemona death. In the final scene, when Othello is accusing
Desdemona of giving Cassio the handkerchief, the only reason he... Show more content on

Honest Iago is said all throughout the play. Shakespeare is poking fun for he is anything but
honest. He is the puppet master in this production who s only agenda, it seems, is to cause
Othello as much pain as possible. Iago defiantly gets his wish, but as a cost. One of the first
examples of Iago not being very honest is in 2.2.20 30. Here we see Iago coaxing Cassio into
having a drink, even though Cassio has a drinking problem. Iago: Well, happiness to their sheets!
Come, lieutenant, I/ have a stoup of wine, and here without are a brace / of Cyprus gallants that
would fain have a measure to / the health of black Othello. / Cassio: Not tonight, good Iago. I
have very poor and unhappy brains for drinking. I could well wish courtesy would invent some
other custom of entertainment/ Iago: Oh, they are our friends. But one cup. I ll drink for you.
(2.2.20 4). But this is just the beginning of Iago s deceptions. As mentioned before, Othello
leaves Desdemona s life in Iago s manipulative hands, and Othello puts more stock into Iago s
words than his wife s. Throughout the whole play, Honest Iago and fragile Othello feed into each
other, with poor Desdemona and Cassio the innocent causalities. Emilia too, while not as innocent,
still perishes at Honest Iago s doing. If 1.2.297 8 didn t happen, maybe Desdemona and Othello

The State Of Emergency And Urban Californians
Introduction
In 2012 and 2013 Klamath County on the Southern Oregon border declared a drought in April,
after a string of fortunate years of heavy rain and snow. In 2014, a drought emergency was
declared in February, two months earlier than in 2013, and in 2015 drought was again declared for
the county in April( United State Geological Survey 2015). These successive drought declarations
are not surprising to anyone who was following the Western water crisis during those years, where
the governor of California declared a state of emergency and urban Californians were mandated to
find ways to cut their water consumption drastically . In 2012, 10,000 avian mortalities were
reported in the Klamath Basin National Wildlife Refuges because of the shut off of water
facilities that support wetland habitat for migratory species (Learn 2012.) During those dry
years, an article titled Birds are Dying As Drought Ravages Avian Highways ran in National
Geographic, featuring Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuge and putting the struggle of its
bird species in a regional context, as long distance flyers found fewer and fewer refuges with the
water resources to maintain them( Kay 2015). It was these shocking statistics that first attracted
me, as a birder, to the basin as an area of study. However, as I began to wade into the history of
the basin and its complicated local politics, I soon realized that I could not disentangle the issues

Case Study Of Birla Sun Life Insurance
Insurance is the equitable transfer of the risk of a loss, from one entity to another in exchange for
money. It is a form of risk management primarily used to hedge against the risk of a contingent,
uncertain loss. An insurer, or insurance carrier, is selling the insurance; the insured, or policyholder,
is the person or entity buying the insurancepolicy. The amount of money to be charged for a
certain amount of insurance coverage is called the premium. Risk management, the practice of
appraising and controlling risk, has evolved as a discrete field of study and practice.

Dualism In Val Plumwood s Paths Beyond Human-Centeredness
Val Plumwood in her essay Paths Beyond Human Centeredness, illustrates the impact that humans
have on nature and non animals when it comes to preserving environments. Understanding that
nature has it s living properties that let it thrive among its resources allows for people to grasp the
complexities that come about when construction companies destroy the environment in which they
work. Plumwood uses the term dualism to refer to the sharp distinction between two classes of
individuals. There is the high class, which is considered as the One. In contrast, the other side of the
division consists of individuals that are classified as lower and are subordinates to the One as
Others. This account on dualism allows the reader to understand how humans can significantly alter
the environment because of the way they perceive its resources and inhabitants. Plumwood defines
five characteristics that illustrate the oppressive actions that change the connection between human
relations and the relationship between humans and nature. In any case, individuals within society
become oppressed as higher ranked groups control their lower class counterparts. The five
characteristics that pertain to human oppression become defined in Plumwood s essay as: radical
exclusion, homogenization, denial, incorporation, and instrumentalism. Radical exclusion refers to
the separating of men as the One and women as the Other. Furthermore, this term means that the
qualities of women become

The Bubonic Plague, otherwise known as the Black Death, was a contagious disease that had been
spread throughout many countries such as China and Egypt during the early 1340s. During the late
months of 1347, the plague had finally arrived into Europe by using 12 trading ships and their

Boy am I glad I got to research him though. I always knew him as just an important person in
American literature but I didn t really know any history behind it. I ve read some of
Shakespeare s works in school but they never really interested me because I did not understand a
lot of the book. I always thought he was a crazy playwright who wrote in a tongue that not really
anyone but the teachers understood. By researching about this person, I m able to gain new
knowledge that I had not known before while also gaining information about the book we re
going to read. William Shakespeare has just improved the amount of things I know in my life. I
know how life back then was for someone as famous as Shakespeare. I know that he was just
someone who was pretty much normal until he created his famous writing style. I can kind of
relate to Shakespeare because our childhoods were somewhat similar in that we both grew up in
just a middle class family. We weren t really anything special until we went on to discover who
we truly were. Learning about Shakespeare also helps me understand a little more about The
Taming of the Shrew. I know that because this book is a comedy, he wrote this in the early years of
his career. By doing this research on Shakespeare, I was not only able to gain extra knowledge for
myself but also a bit of background for the book we re going to read.

1.Background on the Queens Botanical Garden and Visitor and Administration Building
What is the Queens Botanical Garden? Well, the Queens Botanical Garden is oasis located in
New York, where people coming from all different locations and cultures can involve themselves in
the beautiful gardens with many activates. This is the main goal, when the Queens Botanical
Garden first came about. In 1999, the architects of the Queens Botanical Garden began
brainstorming ideas of the garden s new visitor center. At this moment of time is when green
building was first coming about.
The visitor center of the Queen s Botanical Garden uses many sustainable and green construction
methods to its building. The Visitor and Administration buildings costs about 14 million dollars and
was planned by BKSK Architects. These buildings were one of the first constructions in the city to
receive a Platinum LEED rating. According to John Krieble, Queens structure is showing people
that it can be down. One reason the building received its Platinum rating was the over 20 percent of
its materials that is was constructed with was used was within
500 miles of its location.
Using materials closer to the construction site saves money, time, and energy that would have been
spent transporting the materials from a farther site. The visitor and administration center both were
opened on September 27, 2007.

Examples Of Oppression In Their Eyes Were Watching God
In 1791, Thomas Paine wrote the book Rights of Man, in which he expresses his thoughts on the
unity of the American people. Walter Russell, however, claims America has always been a
division of man. There has always been the conqueror and conquered the master and the slave
the ruler and the ruled the oppressor and the oppressed. There has never been content nor unity.
There has been only discontent and disunity . While in the United States there are people similar
to Paine who strive for freedom and diversity, there are also those, as Walter Russell illustrates,
who promote racism, violence, and disunity. Thomas Paine s viewpoint is mostly inaccurate
because while there are times of peace, justice, and concord, there are far greater instances of
oppression, privilege, and riots in America. Two examples of oppression in the America are
illustrated in the novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God, written by Zora Neale Hurston. In the
novel, Janie, a black woman living in the post civil war South, is oppressed by her husband,
Logan Killicks. After Janie refuses to help him with the farm work, he yells at her, Ah ll take

The Voodoo Of Voodoo Dolls
It is easy to look back at history and see a clear pattern and relation between different cultures,
objects, rituals, etc. When you take a deeper look into origins, you ll often be surprised by what
you find. Minkondi (plural for nkondi), are sculptures made and used in the 19th century by
African cultures. They served a very specific purpose and had a very sacred importance. The
Nkisi Nkondi functioned as a hunter healer of conflicts. The people would take their worries,
requests and fears to the figure to call on the spirits. Voodoo dollson the other hand, are often

commonly recognized, for evil and harm. The Nkisi Nkondi sculptures and Voodoo dolls, even
though they are from different cultures and time periods, have a number of similarities and one
may have influenced the creation of the other. Nkisi refers to the spiritual being of the figure, and
nkondi comes from the word konda, which means to hunt, refers to the figure itself. Minkondi,
representative of hunters, can catch those who undermine the frame of society. The Nkisi Nkondi

The Road Corridor As An Important Area For Future...
In 2006, The City of East Lansing referred to The Trowbridge Road Corridor as an important
area for future redevelopment in their Big Picture Comprehensive Plan. Being a main route to
East Lansing and Michigan State University it allows high visibility and access to and from the
surrounding neighborhoods. In order to encourage future development in this area, most of the
properties along that corridor needed to be redeveloped. Review for this project began in 2007.
Due to the original design for the car oriented area, the corridor and the surrounding land did not
perfectly complement each other. The addition of numerous curb cuts and disjointed interior
vehicle connections increased the dysfunction between cars and pedestrians. Pedestrian safety,
highway and train noise, conditions of the parking lot, heavy pass through traffic, depth of the
parcels south of Trowbridge, and lack of marketing focus are a few of the preexisting
weaknesses of the site. River Caddis Developing is the firm responsible for the development of
the Trowbridge Village. River Caddis development has acquired developed and/or redeveloped

Main Features Of Perfect Competition
Perfect competition is a type of market structre where there is highest level of competition. In
perfect competition the firms are offering homogeneous product. Every firm believe that it can
sell any amount of output it wishes at the prevailing market price. Because of homogenous
product and large number of firms, no individual firm is in a position to effect the price of the
product and therefore the demand curve for the firm under perfect competition is a horizontal
straight line. 2.2 Meaning of Perfect Competition In Perfect competition there are a large number
of buyers and sellers. Each seller is producing a very small level of industry s output, no individual
buyer or seller can influence the price of the product. The products produced under perfect
competition are homogenous, and each firm believes that it can sell any amount of output at the

  • 3. Child Discrimlect And Neglect Throughout the world many children are vulnerable to some form of neglect, which unfortunately can result in what is known as neglect trauma . Traumas are said to be the emotional, physiological, or psychological response to a terrible event according to the American Psychological Association. Researchers have dedicated their efforts to understand trauma, to become aware of the different types of traumas that exist and to also understand the possible effects that traumas have on children according to their age groups, level of exposure and understanding towards the trauma. But, unfortunately studies have not yet directly proven or identify definite causes of child neglect. Child neglect is a very common form of child abuse globally and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Levinson (1981), the presence or existence of different forms of family violence in a home that may not directly involve a child, are too related to the abuse of the child in ways such as emotionally or psychologically. It is understood that the concerns of child neglect are not always priorities of some countries as many tend to overlook the fact that child neglect is real, that it is possible, that it is present among the children of their country. Countries have the tendency to define child abuse and neglect based on local definitions, traditions, cultures, politics and priorities. If forms of child abuse and neglect go unheard of or unrecognized by a society, the need for providing a valid definition of child maltreatment, or conducting necessary research based on the topic would not come into effect or taken into account. The National Incidence Study of Child abuse and Neglect, pointed out that a large number of children who experience emotional and physical abuse are usually those of the black population, when in comparison to the White population in ... • 4. Conversation On The Plurality Of Worlds Analysis Men have dominated and control the scientific world for decades. Men often thought that they were the superior sex and that they had a better understanding of science and how to conduct experiments. Many men regarded women as less superior because they believed that females did not have the mental capacities and resources to understand how science, nature and the universe works and that women are too emotional. However, through the founding of the Royal Society by King Charles II women was slowly allowed to enter the scientific world, conduct their own experiments and published their own writings. Through plays like the Conversation On The Plurality Of Worlds by Bernard le Bovier de Fontenelle and The Virtuoso by Thomas Shadwell it shows how... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reason why science was considered a masculine occupation is because many men believed that the male gender is better at controlling their emotions and separating their emotions from themselves thus not letting their emotions cloud their judgment. However the common belief about women are that they are a too emotional creatures who will let their emotions cloud their judgment and reason thus not providing accurate results in their experimentation. But over time men started to see the benefits of allowing women in the world of science. Females are better at observing animals and plants in their natural habitat than males. Females are better at noticing the small details of plants and classifying them into the different species and genus which made botany the perfect scientific field for women. This was the first major step in changing the perspective of science as a male dominated field to a more gender neutral field. Another major step in allowing women to join the science field came through the plays by Fontenelle and Shadwell who both made their protagonist young women with some understanding of ... In order to work they must make arrangements for their children and elderly family members who need assistance. They address these conflicts through a variety of child care, after school, and eldercare arrangements. But sometimes when a child is seriously ill, an aging parent s health deteriorates suddenly, or a baby is born or adopted, these daily arrangements are no longer adequate. At such times of family need, an employee simply must take time off from work because no alternative care arrangements will do. Suffering Of The Good Samaritan Suffering performs a significant function in numerous religions, concerning situations like: consolation or relief; moral behavior, spiritual development through life difficulties or through self enforced trials, and final destiny. It is supplemented in the Hebrew Bible by the verses found in the Book of Isaiah and the Book of Jeremiah. They detail the emotional and physical suffering of a defeated nation with its vanquished residents compelled into the suffering of expulsion and confinement in a foreign nation. In the New Testament, suffering is depicted in the life of Jesus, which recounts the suffering of the crucifixion, and in the Easter story. The suffering connected with punishment is additionally depicted in the Apocalypse of John where suffering at the setting of the Last Judgment is portrayed as the just compensation for sin and unlawful activity. Pope John Paul II wrote On the Christian Meaning of Human Suffering. This article focuses on the idea of redemptive suffering. The parable of the Good Samaritan belongs to the Gospel of suffering. Students use many tactics for cheating because they do not understand the subject, or they stress the need to be successful. I believe, because of transformation of cheating and lack of disciplinary consequences, cheating has become more prevalent in schools in our society. The first idea to understand about cheating is the many forms of how they are carried out. As technology has grown and evolved to what it is today, it has opened many more ways of cheating to occur and causes the temptation to be much easier to pursue. But first, there is the most basic form of cheating that we all know and it is by simply looking off another student s paper. Whether it would be for homeworkor a test, it is more commonly used to copy for a test. Next, students may get together and have one person to one half of the homework while the other does the other half, then they both exchange papers and copy each others answers. Through the wonderful world of technology, cheating and plagiarizing is very easy to encounter, even without us realizing it. Students use Internet sources to look up answers for school work and use those answers as their own. What they fail to do is properly source their information. When this happens, they do not give credit to the information source, and it could cost the student a zero for the schoolwork, in the class, or worse they get ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. The Importance Of Teachers On The Classroom Environment In order to develop strong relationships with my students, colleagues, and parents, I plan to do a variety of little things to yield big results. The relationship that teachers have with students is vital to the classroom environment. In You ve Got to Reach Them to Teach Them, Mary Kim Schrek writes that the human encounter between teacher and student is often a more powerful teaching tool than the academic content, the grade, the data analysis, and the hours spent picking apart the curriculum (Schrek, 2011, p. 5). In order to establish such relationships, I plan to follow a four step procedure that I read about in an article by Nina Sears on the National EducationAssociation s website. Sears article suggests that a teacher get to know their students, individualize the curriculum, watch what they say, and keep trying to reach students (Sears, 2014). As an attempt to get to know my students, I will create a little survey on the first day of school for each student to fill out; questions would include asking my students what their favorite color is or what type of books they like to read. By doing this, I will learn about my students likes and dislikes and how to use their answer in the curriculum. Individualizing the curriculum might seem like a huge undertaking but if a teacher is willing to work with the student, it is not a big deal. For example, I was an auditory learner and I had a teacher who altered the project requirements so I could write a song to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

People in general depend on technology tools and sites to accomplish their specific tasks in their lives. Nowadays, we have different types of technologies which impact our daily life in different ways. Unlike the past, individuals were limited to writing letters and waiting for responds to be delivered from one of the post offices or services. There has been a shift in the way we share or exchange information, news, and ideas with each other. Several years ago, human used to connect face to face. Whereas, people now frequently prefer computer mediated communications. Now, societies are becoming more social and interactive with others compared to the past years, but the way or the style of that communication has changed significantly. Despite the fact that technology has several positive impacts, there are three key issues regarding the role of social media that plays a major part in our communication patterns between individuals. The first negative consequence of social media is the lack of privacy and security. When people communicate through social media, messages tend to be more wide open. Therefore, there are many negative consequences that are associated with the use of open networking sites. The State Of Emergency And Urban Californians Introduction In 2012 and 2013 Klamath County on the Southern Oregon border declared a drought in April, after a string of fortunate years of heavy rain and snow. In 2014, a drought emergency was declared in February, two months earlier than in 2013, and in 2015 drought was again declared for the county in April( United State Geological Survey 2015). These successive drought declarations are not surprising to anyone who was following the Western water crisis during those years, where the governor of California declared a state of emergency and urban Californians were mandated to find ways to cut their water consumption drastically . In 2012, 10,000 avian mortalities were reported in the Klamath Basin National Wildlife Refuges because of the shut off of water facilities that support wetland habitat for migratory species (Learn 2012.) During those dry years, an article titled Birds are Dying As Drought Ravages Avian Highways ran in National Geographic, featuring Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuge and putting the struggle of its bird species in a regional context, as long distance flyers found fewer and fewer refuges with the water resources to maintain them( Kay 2015). Understanding that nature has it s living properties that let it thrive among its resources allows for people to grasp the complexities that come about when construction companies destroy the environment in which they work. Plumwood uses the term dualism to refer to the sharp distinction between two classes of individuals. There is the high class, which is considered as the One. In contrast, the other side of the division consists of individuals that are classified as lower and are subordinates to the One as Others. This account on dualism allows the reader to understand how humans can significantly alter the environment because of the way they perceive its resources and inhabitants. Plumwood defines five characteristics that illustrate the oppressive actions that change the connection between human relations and the relationship between humans and nature. In any case, individuals within society become oppressed as higher ranked groups control their lower class counterparts. The five characteristics that pertain to human oppression become defined in Plumwood s essay as: radical exclusion, homogenization, denial, incorporation, and instrumentalism. Walter Russell, however, claims America has always been a division of man. There has always been the conqueror and conquered the master and the slave the ruler and the ruled the oppressor and the oppressed. There has never been content nor unity. There has been only discontent and disunity . While in the United States there are people similar to Paine who strive for freedom and diversity, there are also those, as Walter Russell illustrates, who promote racism, violence, and disunity.
