Prenatal Screening And Prenatal Development
Throughout all of mankind s history all living beings have shared a common trait since their
conception, prenatal development. Prenatal development can easily be categorized as a fascinating
period of great anatomical and physiological progress. Yet, as time progresses and the wonders of
medical technology advance at a limitless pace, such a time has recently been viewed as a period of
constant and profound examinations for unborn infants. The term, prenatal examinations, can be
divided into the three categories of prenatal screenings, genetic screenings, and diagnostic screenings.
Prenatal screenings are primarily involved with the detections of the possible abnormalities and
conditions that may be displayed by the infants. However, it has been vastly emphasized to be a non
definitive diagnosis for most pregnancies. The normal and recommended blood tests as well as
ultrasounds throughout pregnancies classify as a realm of prenatal screenings. Genetic screenings,
considered by many to be a complex version of prenatal screenings, examine the alterations of the
chromosomes, genes, and proteins of the fetus. Currently, genetic screenings are sub divided into three
main categories, molecular genetic screenings, chromosomal genetic screenings, and biochemical
genetic screenings. Molecular screenings examine the genes of a fetus in an attempt to recognize any
mutations in the DNA of the fetus and to detect the likelihood of the development of a genetic
disorder. Chromosomal

The Book of 1 Samuel Essay
The Book of 1 Samuel
The book of 1 Samuel, a part of the Old Testament, sparks the dawn of the United Kingdom of Israel
by telling of its first king, Saul. Samuel is one of the first talked about pre literary prophets in the bible
perhaps because he anointed the first king of the United Kingdom. He is a prophet by definition
because he possessed the ability to converse with the almighty Yahweh. Samuel and Saul are key
players to the rise of the kingdom but Saul runs into trouble and disobeys God, which leads him to his
own inevitable demise. In 1 Samuel 28: 1 25 Yahweh guides Saul to his death because he has outright
deceived and disobeyed God. This passage sets an example to obey Yahweh; otherwise he will inflict

Saul had previously wiped out all of the mediums and wizards from the land because they were evil in
the eyes of Yahweh. Because of his realized hypocrisy, he disguised himself and visited the medium
his servants had sought out in Endor. He told the medium to call upon Samuel and so she immediately
suspected that he is Saul. She knew that her work was extremely illegal by Saul s court, so she became
afraid until he reassured her that he was permitting the act in that occasion. She then called upon
Samuel. Samuel apparently took over the medium s body or appears in some other way to Saul. So
Saul did what he came there for and asked for advise on his latest predicament. The irritated and
disturbed Samuel explained that Yahweh is taking away his kingdom and giving it to David because of
his disobedience of not carrying out the Lord s punishment against the Amalekites (according to Mc
Carter the dead had some way of knowing God s plans and had access to them). So, Saul fell to the
ground in anguish from the news and lack of energy caused by fasting. The medium quickly attended
to him and forced him to eat. Saul and his servants then left. And there the chapter ends. Yahweh took
the kingdom from Saul because Saul did not

The Men and Women of Chemistry: Robert Boyle Robert Boyle was born to Richard Boyle and
Catherine Fenton on January 25, 1627 in Lismore, Ireland. He was the youngest son of Richard Boyle,
the Earl of Cork, and he was born into a noble family. His father was very rich and had an abundant
amount of wealth due to his occupation of being a prestigious landowner. Additionally, his mother,
Catherine Fenton, was also associated with a wealthy family English family. During his early
childhood, Boyle was sent to live with a poor Irish family (Famous Scientists). Boyle s father had a
unique way to raise his children. He would send them to this family and he believed that through this

how experimental science should be done. He conducted this by showing the importance of repeating

techniques. Many contemporary scientists abide by this rule to hold the greatest results they can get.
Many scientists use this effectively and don t take it for granted. Boyle was a very open minded
individual and he introduced a concept that dealt with the results gone wrong. He said, ... even when

Tuberculosis Essay
Tuberculosis
Forms of tuberculosis have been present in the human population since ancient times. Fragments of
spinal columns from Egyptian mummies dating back to 2400 BC show definite pathological signs of
tubercular decay. Around 460 BC Hippocrates wrote on the subject of a disease which we now know
as tuberculosis. In his article he warned his colleagues against visiting cases in the late stages of the
disease, because the patient s inevitable death might damage the reputations of the attending
physicians. The world s population remained totally defenseless to the lethal effects of tuberculosis for
thousands of years. Then, around the 17th century scientists began to hypothesize about the nature of
the disease and began to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Marten s insight proved to be another enormous step towards the understanding and prevention of
tuberculosis. In the 19th century Hermann Brehmer, a Silesian botany student whom was suffering
from tuberculosis, was instructed by his physician to move to a healthier climate. Brehmer traveled to
the Himalayan mountains mainly to pursue his botanical studies. What he didn t know at the time was
that this journey would be attributed to curing his disease. When Brehmer returned home he began to
study medicine. In 1854, he wrote his dissertation titled, Tuberculosis is a Curable Disease. He
hypothesized that his recovery was directly related to the healthier environment found in the
Himalayan mountains. Brehmer built an institution in Gorbersdorf where his patients received a
nutritious diet and spent great amounts of time on their balconies where they were exposed to
continuous fresh air. This clinic was the first step towards the development of a sanatorium. Sanatoria,
could now be found throughout Europe and the United States. A sanatorium provided two functions.
They isolated the ill from the rest of the public while enforcing rest and a healthy diet. Tuberculosis is

Jonson s Poetry Ap English Drama
Poet Ape signifies Somebody who aped artists ; at the end of the day a terrible would be artist. Along
these lines Sir Philip Sidney said in his The Defense of Poesy The cause why it is not regarded in
England is the blame of writer ape, not of artists . Jonson in his plays twice utilized the term of
performers who sought to compose verse, yet an artist primate could be anybody. So it isn t right to
expect, as some have, that the writer primate of Jonson s saying was fundamentally a performer. He
has regularly been thought to be Shake Speare. I question this since Shake Speare did not purchase the
inversion of old plays, aside from potentially to king John and Hamlet, and did not appropriate to the
degree the saying charges. Some have proposed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Inconspicuous, clever, and charming, these regularly appreciated verses show up at an easygoing
perusing to present few issues of analysis or understanding. However the arrangement has incited
forcefully unique readings over late years. There is proceeding with difference among pundits about
the tone and reality of the succession, about the unique situations (scholarly, authentic, and scholarly)
inside which it might should be caught on, what s more, even about the fundamental frameworks of
the account which these apparently straightforward verses apparently unfurl. Part of the issue in
perusing the Charis sonnets lies definitely in that pressure between their account and verse capacities:
between a perspective of the lyrics as constituting, a solitary, ceaseless, and naturally related entire the
story which the writer declares in the opening sonnet and then again ten discrete verse pieces to be
freely relished and caught on. A fairly comparable pressure is to be found inside the ten pieces on
Lady Venetia Digby which make up the succession Eupheme , set in appearing to be balance to the
Charis ballads close to the finish of The Underwood: and inside those bigger gatherings of ballads, the
Epigrams and The Forest, in Jonson s 1616 folio. 1 In these cases, lyrics composed at various

American History X Discrimination
Prejudices and Discrimination in American History X Abstract Stereotyping, prejudice, conformity,
and discrimination are well portrayed in the movie American History X. The negative attitude held by
Derek towards to black people is greatly influenced and learned from his father who was a racist.
Derek also transfers these prejudice attitudes towards his younger brother Danny as he grows up
seeing the racism practiced in his family and his brother. Although these attitudes are based on
propaganda, the two brothers conform to them and even join the Nazi group that holds similar
ethnocentrism beliefs. This affirms and fuels the supremacist attitude, but unfortunately, it also leads
to negative consequences in their lives. Derek murders an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this paper, the prejudice, discrimination, and stereotyping will be analyzed in reference to American
History X. Analysis The theme of prejudice, stereotyping, and discrimination in American History X
is well conveyed by the actions and attitudes of most of the main characters towards the minority
groups and most specifically, the people of color. The main character in the movie is Derek Vinyard,
and his white supremacist nature is highly influenced by his father views toward the people of color.
The movie is full of terrible and dark scenes as well as violence, most of which is practiced by Derek
based on propaganda. Derek s father influenced Derek s view of the black people since he was a kid
by talking about the black communication in a negative view (American History X, 1998). As a result,
Derek s mind created a bad, negative image of the blacks in the United States. After a black addicted
guy caused the death of his father, Derek hate for the black people became reaffirmed, and he became
a member of the Neo Nazi. The Neo Nazi members held an ethnocentrism thought against the black
people as they came from different cultural origins. This helped to build their prejudice, racism, and
discrimination against them. Ethnocentrism refers to the belief that one s culture and values are
superior to that of other people. This exemplifies the white supremacist belief of the Neo Nazi led by
Derek. For instance, a

egotistic, man who is an investment banker by day and serial killer by night. Both men have had a

Intelligence Definition and Measurement
Defining and testing for intelligence is a controversial issue and has been since the first intelligence

particular test is a matter of preference and depending on the areas of intelligence is desired to be
measured. This paper will start by critiquing the major definitions of intelligence, and determine the
best definition for each chosen intelligence and achievement instruments. It will also evaluate the

pattern analysis (Kids IQ Test Center, n.d.). The two achievement measures chosen for evaluation are
the Wechsler Individual Achievement Test, Third Edition and the Stanford Achievement Test, Tenth
Edition. The Wechsler Individual Achievement Test is based on Wechsler s definition of intelligence.
It has 16 subtests and was created with the idea that each individual s intelligence is different from
another s (Pearson, 2009). The Stanford Achievement Test is commonly known as the SAT among
high school students. This measurement also best fits Wechsler s definition of intelligence as it
measures learning and knowledge of individuals while keeping in mind individual differences of
knowledge and intelligence. This achievement test has 13 levels, such as math, reading,
comprehension, spelling, science, and language, and covers kindergarten through the twelfth grade
(Harcourt Assessment, Inc., 2003).
Reliability, Validity, Normative Procedures, and Bias
Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale The Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale was tested for reliability by
using internal consistency, test retest stability, and interscorer agreement. All three reliability tests
show strong evidence for score reliability (Wechsler, 2008, para. 6).

EARLY, MIDDLE, AND LATE ADULTHOOD? BRIEFLY DESCRIBE THESE MILESTONES.
There is a major difference between the studies of infancy; childhood, adolescence, and adulthood
because doctors and researchers begin to investigate the loss of function, rather than the major
increases of function seen in earlier years.
EARLY ADULTHOOD: Major physical changes that occur in early adulthood include changes to the
brain and nervous system, growth spurts, sex differences, declines in physical functioning, changes in
the heart and lungs, changes in strength and speed, reproductive capacity, and immune system
functioning. Within the brain and nervous system, most functions have become localized in specific
areas of the brain, new synapses continue to form, myelinization is occurring, and old connections are
dying off (Boyd Bee, 2006). Surprisingly, recent research has suggested that some parts of the brain
produce new neurons to replace those that die (even within the brains of those in the early adulthood
stage).
The loss of physical functioning affects almost every major organ in young adulthood. More

Gladiatorial Contest In Rome Essay
Gladiatorial Contest in Rome
Rome was a warrior state. Since the state was a great fighting state in their time, the wars sort of
formed the gladiatorial contest in ancient Rome. The Romans were fascinated and pleasured by
violence, bloodshed, and human suffering the gladiatorial games.
The gladiatorial contests began at the reign of their first emperor Augustus to pay tribute to their
warrior traditions. The Romans built artificial battlefields within amphitheaters in cities and towns for
public entertainment. It is very obvious that gladiatorial contest were important because of the
enormous size of the amphitheaters.

memory of the dead.
At the end of the last century B.C., politics became involved in the gladiatorial games, and the games
were viewed more as entertainment than religious and commemorative ceremonies. The contests were
public performances held in the social center of the city, the Forum. The public started participating in
the games due to the splendour of the shows and by the distribution of meat, and by betting, added
more respect to the entire family and the dead. The funerals put on by aristocrats in the Republic were

Odysseus Qualities
Odysseus, the main character and the hero of the epic, The Odyssey, is the leader of a fleet of men
who tend to get themselves in many wild shenanigans and setbacks. Although he does get and at his

his men alive is made easier by the fact that Odysseus is naturally a heroic person and leader. He is
willing to do or go anywhere to ensure the safety of his men and a higher chance of arriving at their
home, Ithaka. Thus, throughout the course of Book 10, Odysseus has shown to readers that he justifies
the traits that originates from being a brave and caring leader. To start, Odysseus meets the qualities
that comes with being a courageous leader by willing to fight anyone for the safety of himself and his

Theories Of The Utimatum Game
We consider a two player game, where one player (the proposer) makes an offer to split an
endowment/an amount of money between the two players and the other player (the responder) can
accept or reject the offer in an ultimatum game (but has no choice in the dictator game).
In an ultimatum game, if the other player accepts, the money is split according to the proposal and if
the other player rejects, neither player receives anything. As suggested by game theory, the only sub
game perfect Nash equilibrium of the game is the strategy pair in which player one offers zero and
player 2 accepts all offers. Rational responders should accept even the smallest positive offer, since
the alternative is getting nothing. In a large number of human studies, ... Show more content on

As per what the theory predicts (based on non cooperative game theory), the dictator will allocate
nothing to the receiver in a simple dictator game. When property rights are introduced in the dictator
game, dictator earnings treatment , we expect dictators to produce as much wealth as possible and give
nothing to the receiver and in the receiver earnings treatment, we expect individuals in group Y to
produce the lowest earnings level possible and the proposer to offer a higher share. (Spraggon, 2008).
Thus, this theory will be validated if we observe in the experiment that the give rate of the participants
fall in the dictator game when property rights are given to proposers. In that case, we will accept the
hypothesis.
In the ultimatum game, the responder will not be willing to accept low offers if he/she has earned the
money and the dictator will not be expected give zero amount knowing this. If the property rights are
with the proposer, then too, he will give be expected to give more to the responder than in a dictator
game, fearing that very low offers will make the partner reject his/her proposal. If we observe such a
behavior, then the expected theory is

this horrendous crime that George Franklin was found guilty. He was guilty of first degree murder.
This case gained attention because it was the first case ever to determine a man s fate based off of the
resurfacing of repressed memory.
Eileen Franklin, George Franklin s daughter, recalled having a flashback of her best friend,
Susan s murder. It was the look in her daughter s eyes that triggered this memory. She contacted the

There was a division amongst psychologists and psychiatrists. Some believed that there was no
physical evidence to show that Eileen s recovered memory was true. However, others believed that
this crime was too traumatizing for Eileen and resulted in repressing this particular memory.
But how could she completely block this memory for 20 years? Franklin Lipsker testified that she
repressed the memory for 20 years because her dad threatened to kill her too (ChicagoTribune,1990).
Ultimately, George Franklin was convicted to life in prison. But this case took a turn when 6 years
after his imprisonment, he was a free man. Due to DNA evidence, George Franklin s name was
cleared, and he walked out of prison.
Repressed Memory
In my opinion, recovering very traumatic memories, can be caused by finding yourself in a similar
situation. Perhaps even experiencing certain feelings can lead to recovering any repressed memories.
If a repressed memory is recovered I don t believe you view the world the same way you once did.

In everyone s life, there are growing experiences. People evolve not only physically as they get older
but also ideologically. Perhaps they might become wiser or shrug off the trendy doctrines that may
have tried to shape their destiny long ago. Ralph Ellison illustrates this struggle of change in Invisible
Man. The novel begins with a naïve young, black man in the South caught under the evil boot of
racism. As the novel progresses, the reader sees that the ideas portrayed in the novel evolve from

This symbolizes how Norton is exploiting Trueblood. It is a protest against the exploitation of the
worker which is a very communist idea. In order to almost live the experience of perhaps committing
incest against his own daughter, Norton exploits Trueblood. In communist ideology, Norton would
perhaps embody the evil, corrupt capitalist taking advantage of the working class.
However, Norton is not the total capitalist that he perhaps embodies. After Ivan drops him off at his
rooms on the campus, Norton defends the narrator against Dr. Bledsoe s attacks. Dr. Bledsoe,
however, has his own designs, and even though he may appear as a friend of the worker, Bledsoe is
the true capitalist robber baron.
But I ve made my place in it and I ll have every Negro in the country hanging on tree limbs if it means
staying where I am. (Ellison 141). Bledsoe states that he will not stop at anything to assert his own
supremacy, even if it means stomping on his own race and setting back his people s cause for ages. He
believes himself to be the manifest of all authority and considers himself supreme over everyone.
Even though Bledsoe appears at first to be a servile man, he is deep inside an insidious plotter and has
designs on subverting the entire establishment for his own ends. He intends to exploit his society and

The Speed Limit in the State of Michigan Should be Raised...
Running late has always been a problem for people, whether it is for work or a doctor s appointment,
but will the benefit of arriving to a destination two or three minutes faster be worth the number of
lives that could be killed or seriously injured? Of course not. The proposed increase of the speed limit
in the state of Michigan going from 70 to 80 MPH or in some cases going from 55 to 80 MPH has
brought up discussions which experts say increasing the speed limit will only cause more accidents.
Reporter Roop Raj uses a policy statement to argue that the speed limit should not be increased to 80
MPH. Allowing the speed limit to increase to 80 MPH will only make drivers speed more. The first
piece of ground is the author s assertion that raising the speed limit will make people drive even faster.
According to auto attorney Steve Gursten, cell phone use is present all the time and talking about
increasing the speed limit is easier said than done. Increasing the speed limit at the same time that
distraction in cars is greater than it has ever been before could cause even bigger problems. For
example, texting while driving makes a person 23 times more likely to crash. (National Hwy
Transportation Safety Administration). So if drivers are already distracted, there should be no need to
increase the speed limit to increase danger on the road. One warrant for this piece of ground is that
drivers have a need for speed, so imagine people going close to 90 MPH on the highway. People

Wilkie Collins The Woman in White depicts the story of two women who are deceived and

Flaubert prefigures this when she goes to confession.
When she went to confession, she made up little sins so as to stay there longer, kneeling in the
shadows, her hands joined, her face against the screen beneath the whispering of the priest. The
metaphors of the betrothed, the spouse, the celestial lover and the eternal marriage, such as recur in
sermons, excited a strange sweetness deep in her soul (p34).
Irony is another method Flaubert used to depict confinement. Thus, by ironically undercutting the
romance in the novel with realism he satirically pokes fun at the bourgeoisie society. This is apparent
when Emma throws her wedding bouquet into the fire to symbolize the end of her marriage, just
before she becomes pregnant (). In her introduction to Madame Bovary, Roberts quotes,
This subtle use of irony always leads Emma back to reality, that works against her vision and desire of
things, it is this tense alternation of feeling, pathos and irony of intimacy and estrangement that make
up the sweet and sour of Madame Bovary

Vj Junction
1.) It can be assured that the heavy chain will create a VDJ junction but not a VJ junction because of
the 12/23 rule. A gene segment flanked by an RSS with a 12 base pair spacer typically can only be
joined to one flanked by a 23 base pair spacer RSS. So, for the heavy chain, a D segment can be
joined to a J gene segment and a V gene segment to D gene segment but the V gene segment can not
be directly joined to the J gene segment. Both the V and J gene segments are flanked by a 23 base pair
spacer and the D segments have 12 base pair spacers on both sides. The light chain VJ junction will
always be derived from a single type of light chain and not the result of κ or λ hybridization because

The κ loci is located on human chromosome 2, the cluster of V gene segments is followed by a cluster
of J gene segments and then a single C gene. The light chain VJ segment cannot be a product of κ or λ
hybridization because in order for that to occur, they would have to be located on the same
chromosome (Murphy 2012). Production of a complete antigen receptor includes two series of gene
segment rearrangements, one for each receptor chain locus. Each of these rearrangements continues
until a complete protein is made and the cell moves on to the next stage in development. The most
important factor is the V regions that are encoded by separate gene segments (V, D and J segments),
which are brought together by somatic recombination to create a complete V region exon. The V
region of an immunoglobulin heavy or light chain is encoded by multiple gene segments. For the light
chain, the V domain is made up of 2 gene segments, the V gene segment and the J gene segment. The
joining of the V and J segments creates an exon that encodes the entire light chain V

Elie Wiesel s Experience In Night And Life Is Beautiful
Night Life is Beautiful There are many similarities and differences between Elie s experience in a
concentration camp and what Joshua experienced. Throughout the book and movie you were able to
take note of these comparisons and contrasts. For example, the age difference, their first impression of
the camps and overall, there main thought of the camps in the end.
Elie Wiesel was fifteen years old when he first arrived at a concentration camp. Joshua, though was
five to six years old. They both were sent away to a camp. Therefore, this shows how their
experiences with the camp are very different compared to the other. A similarity relating in how they

few of the rules given out in order to receive points. Elie and his father were forced to move from

great variety of jobs they had to do in order to receive food. Joshua did not work, his father did

camp. Both sons had friends and peers during either a short time. Joshua had the Jewish children in
the very beginning who he played with, until they took them away and he had to hide after. Elie had
work friends and companions he talked to. Many times they were either separated, killed or died. The
ending of both the movie and the book were similar in certain things. In both camps they were

The Merit Of Education
Education is a process of acquisition of ideas, either skill, facts or the art of imparting judgment to a
group, society or even an individual (Grace, 1996). Most of the countries to spend a lot of their funds
on education. It is mainly experienced in the American government. The education system in this
continent is free to its citizen. To my opinion, making it free adds a lot of merit to them. They can
develop their society in different areas because they have the required skills and knowledge that may
be necessary to carry out any development activity. It is through education that several developments
relay on. Educated people can pool their ideas together to alleviate a problem that may be affecting
them. My argument on the merit of education will be based on what value it has to the person being
educated and the one proving funds for education.
The United States government does a lot to its citizen. The primary task is to educate its citizen. It
makes sure that everyone can access the quality education all over the American soil. The government
spends a lot of its fund to educate its citizen. It is so because education is free in America. It ensures
that no one will be segregated out due to poverty that maybe a hindrance to education. There are
merits that people leap from this education such as technology advancement, cohesion, economic
growth, employment, agricultural developments and many others. The government does reap a lot
from the education it provides to its

I think many can testify to being guilty of brushing off symptoms like a stuffy nose, and the feeling of
fatigue as the common cold, treatable by over the counter drugs. We tend to ignore these minor signs
of what could possibly be a very dangerous and severe viral infection, this respiratory infection being
the influenza virus. Flu activity most often appears between the months of February and May, leading
many to believe their symptoms might be caused by allergies. Although symptoms are very similar,
the flu can cause epidemics with the deadly outcomes, as the common cold is just a nuisance for us.

The Role of Women in Judaism Essay
The Role of Women in Judaism
Some say that the role of women in Judaism has been misrepresented and misunderstood. Today when
people think of women s role in Judaism, they think of them as being of very low importance. Yet,
threw the Halakha (Jewish laws) we are able to see how significant the role of women is in Judaism.
There are many Jewish feminist leaders in today s society. This is because throughout the years of
education and study of Judaism, the women learned that everyone must be respected. Within Judaism
the women are considered to be on a separate level. They are on the world for one reason, and the men
for another. Yet, within the religion they are considered as equals. In Judaism, God is not viewed as a

They can do so privately without having to attend a public service. Most observant Jewish women
usually attend the synagogue on Sabbaths and festival. Yet, their attendance is not a religious
requirement. Therefore they may be regarded and less privileged then the males. Written in the Jewish
scripts, it is understood that the men and women are not allowed to be together during prayer. In
Orthodox Judaism, the men and women are usually in separate sections of the synagogue, and is often
separated by a curtain, or in some cases even a wall. To the Jewish men, this is not a sexist act. It is
solely done, so that the men would not be distracted by the women s beauty. For some this may seem
chauvinistic, and unfair. But, as Judaism evolved, other segregations were formed. Within many of
these new forms of Judaism, the Conservative and Reform Judaism was created. Both these forms of
Judaism see women s role as being very different then the Orthodox view. However, the basic gender
differentiation of traditional laws has created serious tensions in many sections of the Orthodox
community. The Reform movement was created in the eighteenth century Germany as an attempt to
modernize the religion. Within this new form of Judaism, they have adapted many ideas from
Christianity. The rabbi, or maybe even priest, can be male or female. This allows all females to be

Anti-Consumerism in the Works of Kerouac, Ginsberg, and Roth
Anti Consumerism in the Works of Kerouac, Ginsberg, and Roth
After World War II, Americans became very concerned with keeping up with the Joneses. Everyday
people were not only interested in fulfilling the American Dream because of the optimistic post war
environment, but also because of the economic emphasis on advertising that found a new outlet daily
in highway billboards, radio programs, and that popular new device, the television. With television
advertising becoming the new way to show Americans what they did not (and should) have came a
wide eyed and fascinated interest in owning all kinds of things, products, and devices suddenly

By rejecting spoon fed aphorisms for self discovery through altruism and economic simplicity, these
writers, and indeed a whole subculture of American beatniks and Buddhists in the 50 s and 60 s, set a
new precedent for those willing to find their own way.
Ginsberg expresses a light hearted distaste of the supermarket lifestyle in his poem, A Supermarket in
California. He envisions himself wandering around the supermarket, surrounded by consumers eyeing
produce, and, among them, Walt Whitman and Garcia Lorca. He seems to be fascinated and repulsed
at the same time by the phenomenon, everyone looking and poking at the items to be bought, and he
wonders what their real motives in being there are. He imagines Whitman to be there out of loneliness,
flirting with the young stockboys, pretending, like everyone else, to be interested in the products.
Ginsberg s vision of America is of a whole population so lonely and dispassionate that they have
turned to these big bright places full of people and things to look at just to have something to do. It is
notable that Ginsberg and Whitman leave the supermarket together, not having purchased anything at
all. They have taken part in the ritual of loneliness without buying into the need for things.

Essay on Victorian Age
The Year 1837 was very significant. It was not only the year that
Queen Victoria acceded the throne, but also the year that a new literary age was coined. The Victorian
Age, more formally known, was a time of great prosperity in Great Britain s literature. The Victorian
Age produced a variety of changes. Political and social reform produced a variety of reading among
all classes. The lower class became more self conscious, the middle class more powerful and the rich
became more vulnerable. The novels of Charles Dickens, the poems of Alfred,
Lord Tennyson and Robert Browning, the dramatic plays of Oscar Wilde, the scientific discoveries of
the Darwins, and the religious revolt of Newman all helped to enhance learning and literacy in the ...

As the nineteenth century proceeded, these traditional customs were put into question by Erasmus
Darwin and his grandson, Charles Darwin. Erasmus Darwin found that the world was not created in
seven days in Zoomina, where he discovered that the evolutionary theory was unscientific. Charles
Darwin wrote Origin of the Spec ies, causing full scale controversy in Europe. Darwin said that
species survive and evolved by natural selection, or the survival of the fittest. The public debate over
the evolution marked for Victorians a radical change in intellectual and religious life.
The literature of the first four decades of the Victorian period could not help but reflect the social and
intellectual controversies of the era. Writers including Matthew Arnold and John Ruskin attacked the
problems directly, while Charles Dickens, George Eloit and
Alfred Lord Tennyson dramatized the conflicts and challenges in their works.
The most popular form for this type of dramatization was the novel.
Victorian novels represented almost every aspect of nineteenth century
Victorian life. Though poetry and prose were certainly distinguished, it was the novel that ultimately
proved to be the Victorians special literary achievement. The Victorian novel s most notable aspect
was its diversity. The Victorian period produced a number of novelists whose work today would fit

Guitar Research Paper
Guitars have a long history, some types even dating back to 1500 B.C.! The modern guitar has been
played for many years, as far back as the 1920s to 1940s era of jazz. Guitars have also influenced
many genres around the world. Guitars have been a major part of popular music for many decades.
Guitars have many models, in all different shapes, sizes, and colors. Some of the oldest guitar like
instruments were the bowl harp and tanbur. Bowl harps were made of tortoise shells or calabashes as
resonators, or amplifiers, for their hollow shape. The neck was made of a bent stick, with strings made
of gut or silk. The tanbur was a long necked string instrument with a small egg or pear shaped body,

Before the 1920s, guitar music as more on the classical side with Spanish guitarists like Fernando Sor
and Francisco Tárrega. A new music style was born from spiritual music and old slave songs to jazz
and blues, which changed guitar music forever. During the 1920s, Kansas City bands played a musical
style with a 4 even ground beat. Traditional New Orleans jazz had a 2 ground beat. This has been
believed to have paved the way for modern jazz. Also in the 20s, Kansas City became the wildest city
in America, which was perfect for jazz. Charley Patton, or the Father of Delta Blues , channeled the
feelings and sounds of slave songs and spirituals into a new art form: the Blues. (History of Modern
Guitar Playing ). In the 1930s, swing music started taking a new meaning and began to form into its
permanent form. Also Jean Django Reinhardt invented hot jazz techniques and influenced many bands
of many different genres, including art rock. In the 1940s, Woody Guthrie brought more of a folk
sound to blues and jazz. Also, T Bone Walker became the 1st artist to record blue on the electric guitar.
In the 1950s, Les Paul signed with Gibson guitars. Although he was a guitarist, he was remembered
more for his guitar model with Gibson: the Gibson Les Paul. The guitar was the 1st solid body electric
guitar that was for the to the public. The model was used by the iconic Keith Richards and Eric
Clapton. Also, Scotty Moore rewrote the role of the lead guitarist of a band by placing it forward and
in front of the bass and drum rhythm. B.B. King introduced blues to style and fluidity and practically
invented the guitar solo. Chuck Berry was one of the very first people to combine blues styles with
rock and roll styles, bringing a large audience. Elvis was a huge icon in the 50s. His guitar style added
to the rock and roll image he was creating for himself. Like Elvis, Jimi Hendrix was n icon in the 60s
and still is today.

exchange for him redesigning her garden. On the menu was Pea soup, roasted red pepper and gat

episode that her instructions for the audience were easy and detailed enough to follow along with. I
think this style went along with the personality she portrayed which was a happy and laid back kind of
person. The presentation of her meal was on all white dishes, the dishes matched the décor of her
kitchen. She was very adamant on using fresh herbs from her garden which was a feature that episode.

Replace Traditional Components Like Diesel Generators Essay
ABSTRACT The aim of this paper is to replace traditional components like diesel generators which
are used to generate power in a microgrid with renewable energy sources for an Air force field
deployable hospital (AFFDH). In this paper we assume that Air force field deployable hospital
consumes approximately 70KVA of peak power. ETAP software is used to operate for island and grid
connected mode and also load flow and short circuit analysis are performed on the system for variety
of load and fault scenarios.
INTRODUCTION
Usage of renewable energy resources in production of electricity is considered as effective method for
environment and also for future generation by saving up the fossil fuels. The investments on the
renewables in United States in 2014 is about $38.3billion [1].The renewable energy usage is
increasing in United States mainly because of the state and local governments, utility companies and
other private investors. The U. S Department of Defense is the largest consumer of electric energy, it
is about 54% of the total government use [3][4]. Generally, for the Department of defense existing
commercial power is used or diesel generators. But the cost of fuel keeps on increasing and diesel
generators are not that feasible compared to new technologies. During natural disasters or other
attacks usage of diesel generators is not that recommendable because the cost of investment is very
high and also maintain fuel supply is difficult.

Argument Against Native Sovereignty in Canda Essay
This paper supports Thomas Flanagan s argument against Native sovereignty in Canada; through an
evaluation of the meanings of sovereignty it is clear that Native sovereignty can not coexist with
Canadian sovereignty. Flanagan outlines two main interpretations of sovereignty. Through an analysis
of these ideas it is clear that Native Sovereignty in Canada can not coexist with Canadian sovereignty.
The first interpretation of sovereignty that is examined by Flanagan views sovereignty in an
international sense. Sovereignty for these leaders means gaining more international power and
acceptance. Flanagan argues that major international bodies such as the United Nations will be
accepting such an attempt at sovereignty (71). As the second ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Flanagan s analysis of Native sovereignty internationally is effectively argued. International
organizations such as the World Trade Organization and United Nations would be hesitant to accept
sovereignty of Aboriginal people. Although it is commonly known that many bands within Canada
have access to significant natural resources the majority do not. Flanagan is very direct in stating that
(outside of transfer payments from the government of Canada which would presumably stop to a
sovereign nations) most bands are very weak economically (73). It would be extremely difficult
therefore to afford to send delegates to these international bodies. Without significant monetary
support no sovereign state can be involved in significant international organizations. Flanagan also
soundly refutes the idea of a united Aboriginal sovereign state. Most Aboriginals would likely agree
the greatest evil committed against them by European settlers has been the attempts of assimilation.
By gaining sovereignty they would be free from these attempts, at least in theory. However in order to
develop a significant voice working as one would result into a similar problem. As mentioned above
language, religion and other major difference would make a union extremely difficult. Therefore with
these issues present it would not be possible for native sovereignty to coexist with Canadian
sovereignty.
Flanagan examines sovereignty as originally defined by philosophers; this definition defines

The Pathophysiology of Acute Renal Failure, Questions and...
Problem: A man arrives at a clinic with complaints of asthenia, malaise, headache, weight gain, and a
decrease in urination. A tentative diagnosis of acute renal failure is made.
1. Explain the pathophysiology of acute renal failure. Include prerenal, intrarenal, and postrenal
causes.
The Urinary System plays an important role in our everyday life. It s most important functions are
maintenance of homeostasis, manufacture hormones that we need, and to process our wastes for
elimination. Our kidneys are part of this whole system; bad habits and lifestyle affect the whole cycle.
This system has a long list of disorders and diseases that an individual may acquire; one of these is
Acute Renal Failure (ARF). Its fast development impairs the kidneys unless the problem is found
immediately and treated. In Acute Renal Failure (ARF) the kidneys suddenly stops working. It loses
its functions, which are: eliminate wastes, maintain fluid balance, and preserve our body s electrolytes.
Blood enters the kidneys through the renal arteries and leaves through the renal veins. The strength of
pressure exerted onto the kidneys is what makes the glomerular filtration work. The glomerulus, or the
capillary network inside the Bowman s capsule, is the filtration system. This pressure depends upon
the flow of blood and the resistance between the afferent and efferent arterioles. The afferent aterioles
brings blood to the glomeruli; while the efferent arteriole takes the blood away. When the flow

  • 2. Prenatal Screening And Prenatal Development Throughout all of mankind s history all living beings have shared a common trait since their conception, prenatal development. Prenatal development can easily be categorized as a fascinating period of great anatomical and physiological progress. Yet, as time progresses and the wonders of medical technology advance at a limitless pace, such a time has recently been viewed as a period of constant and profound examinations for unborn infants. The term, prenatal examinations, can be divided into the three categories of prenatal screenings, genetic screenings, and diagnostic screenings. Prenatal screenings are primarily involved with the detections of the possible abnormalities and conditions that may be displayed by the infants. However, it has been vastly emphasized to be a non definitive diagnosis for most pregnancies. The normal and recommended blood tests as well as ultrasounds throughout pregnancies classify as a realm of prenatal screenings. Genetic screenings, considered by many to be a complex version of prenatal screenings, examine the alterations of the chromosomes, genes, and proteins of the fetus. Currently, genetic screenings are sub divided into three main categories, molecular genetic screenings, chromosomal genetic screenings, and biochemical genetic screenings. Molecular screenings examine the genes of a fetus in an attempt to recognize any mutations in the DNA of the fetus and to detect the likelihood of the development of a genetic disorder. • 3. The Book of 1 Samuel Essay The Book of 1 Samuel The book of 1 Samuel, a part of the Old Testament, sparks the dawn of the United Kingdom of Israel by telling of its first king, Saul. Samuel is one of the first talked about pre literary prophets in the bible perhaps because he anointed the first king of the United Kingdom. He is a prophet by definition because he possessed the ability to converse with the almighty Yahweh. Samuel and Saul are key players to the rise of the kingdom but Saul runs into trouble and disobeys God, which leads him to his own inevitable demise. In 1 Samuel 28: 1 25 Yahweh guides Saul to his death because he has outright deceived and disobeyed God. This passage sets an example to obey Yahweh; otherwise he will inflict punishment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Saul had previously wiped out all of the mediums and wizards from the land because they were evil in the eyes of Yahweh. Because of his realized hypocrisy, he disguised himself and visited the medium his servants had sought out in Endor. He told the medium to call upon Samuel and so she immediately suspected that he is Saul. She knew that her work was extremely illegal by Saul s court, so she became afraid until he reassured her that he was permitting the act in that occasion. She then called upon Samuel. Samuel apparently took over the medium s body or appears in some other way to Saul. So Saul did what he came there for and asked for advise on his latest predicament. The irritated and disturbed Samuel explained that Yahweh is taking away his kingdom and giving it to David because of his disobedience of not carrying out the Lord s punishment against the Amalekites (according to Mc Carter the dead had some way of knowing God s plans and had access to them). So, Saul fell to the ground in anguish from the news and lack of energy caused by fasting. The medium quickly attended to him and forced him to eat. Saul and his servants then left. And there the chapter ends. Yahweh took the kingdom from Saul because Saul did not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His father was very rich and had an abundant amount of wealth due to his occupation of being a prestigious landowner. Fragments of spinal columns from Egyptian mummies dating back to 2400 BC show definite pathological signs of tubercular decay. Around 460 BC Hippocrates wrote on the subject of a disease which we now know as tuberculosis. In his article he warned his colleagues against visiting cases in the late stages of the disease, because the patient s inevitable death might damage the reputations of the attending physicians. The world s population remained totally defenseless to the lethal effects of tuberculosis for thousands of years. Marten s insight proved to be another enormous step towards the understanding and prevention of tuberculosis. In the 19th century Hermann Brehmer, a Silesian botany student whom was suffering from tuberculosis, was instructed by his physician to move to a healthier climate. Brehmer traveled to the Himalayan mountains mainly to pursue his botanical studies. What he didn t know at the time was that this journey would be attributed to curing his disease. When Brehmer returned home he began to study medicine. In 1854, he wrote his dissertation titled, Tuberculosis is a Curable Disease. He hypothesized that his recovery was directly related to the healthier environment found in the Himalayan mountains. Brehmer built an institution in Gorbersdorf where his patients received a nutritious diet and spent great amounts of time on their balconies where they were exposed to continuous fresh air. This clinic was the first step towards the development of a sanatorium. Sanatoria, could now be found throughout Europe and the United States. A sanatorium provided two functions. Along these lines Sir Philip Sidney said in his The Defense of Poesy The cause why it is not regarded in England is the blame of writer ape, not of artists . Jonson in his plays twice utilized the term of performers who sought to compose verse, yet an artist primate could be anybody. So it isn t right to expect, as some have, that the writer primate of Jonson s saying was fundamentally a performer. He has regularly been thought to be Shake Speare. American History X Discrimination Prejudices and Discrimination in American History X Abstract Stereotyping, prejudice, conformity, and discrimination are well portrayed in the movie American History X. The negative attitude held by Derek towards to black people is greatly influenced and learned from his father who was a racist. Derek also transfers these prejudice attitudes towards his younger brother Danny as he grows up seeing the racism practiced in his family and his brother. Although these attitudes are based on propaganda, the two brothers conform to them and even join the Nazi group that holds similar ethnocentrism beliefs. This affirms and fuels the supremacist attitude, but unfortunately, it also leads to negative consequences in their lives. Derek murders an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this paper, the prejudice, discrimination, and stereotyping will be analyzed in reference to American History X. Analysis The theme of prejudice, stereotyping, and discrimination in American History X is well conveyed by the actions and attitudes of most of the main characters towards the minority groups and most specifically, the people of color. The main character in the movie is Derek Vinyard, and his white supremacist nature is highly influenced by his father views toward the people of color. The movie is full of terrible and dark scenes as well as violence, most of which is practiced by Derek based on propaganda. Derek s father influenced Derek s view of the black people since he was a kid by talking about the black communication in a negative view (American History X, 1998). As a result, Derek s mind created a bad, negative image of the blacks in the United States. After a black addicted guy caused the death of his father, Derek hate for the black people became reaffirmed, and he became a member of the Neo Nazi. The Neo Nazi members held an ethnocentrism thought against the black people as they came from different cultural origins. This helped to build their prejudice, racism, and discrimination against them. Ethnocentrism refers to the belief that one s culture and values are superior to that of other people. This exemplifies the white supremacist belief of the Neo Nazi led by Derek. For instance, a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Stanford Achievement Test is commonly known as the SAT among high school students. Within the brain and nervous system, most functions have become localized in specific areas of the brain, new synapses continue to form, myelinization is occurring, and old connections are dying off (Boyd Bee, 2006). Theories Of The Utimatum Game We consider a two player game, where one player (the proposer) makes an offer to split an endowment/an amount of money between the two players and the other player (the responder) can accept or reject the offer in an ultimatum game (but has no choice in the dictator game). In an ultimatum game, if the other player accepts, the money is split according to the proposal and if the other player rejects, neither player receives anything. Running late has always been a problem for people, whether it is for work or a doctor s appointment, but will the benefit of arriving to a destination two or three minutes faster be worth the number of lives that could be killed or seriously injured? Of course not. The proposed increase of the speed limit in the state of Michigan going from 70 to 80 MPH or in some cases going from 55 to 80 MPH has brought up discussions which experts say increasing the speed limit will only cause more accidents. Reporter Roop Raj uses a policy statement to argue that the speed limit should not be increased to 80 MPH. Allowing the speed limit to increase to 80 MPH will only make drivers speed more. The first piece of ground is the author s assertion that raising the speed limit will make people drive even faster. According to auto attorney Steve Gursten, cell phone use is present all the time and talking about increasing the speed limit is easier said than done. Increasing the speed limit at the same time that distraction in cars is greater than it has ever been before could cause even bigger problems. For example, texting while driving makes a person 23 times more likely to crash. (National Hwy Transportation Safety Administration). So if drivers are already distracted, there should be no need to increase the speed limit to increase danger on the road. A gene segment flanked by an RSS with a 12 base pair spacer typically can only be joined to one flanked by a 23 base pair spacer RSS. So, for the heavy chain, a D segment can be joined to a J gene segment and a V gene segment to D gene segment but the V gene segment can not be directly joined to the J gene segment. Both the V and J gene segments are flanked by a 23 base pair spacer and the D segments have 12 base pair spacers on both sides. His guitar style added to the rock and roll image he was creating for himself. Like Elvis, Jimi Hendrix was n icon in the 60s and still is today. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. Chopped Research Paper Food network project The first cooking show I watched was Chopped. Chopped is a competition show where contestants are given a diverse array of ingredients that are unusual and don t necessarily go well together. Some of the strange ingredients the contestants were given included pink marshmallow peeps, a chocolate bunny, and also a lamb leg. The idea is to create a dish using all the ingredients you are given to make a dish. There are three rounds, appetizer, entrée, and dessert. Each round one contestant is eliminated or chopped from the competition until two contestants are left standing in the dessert round. The show is hosted by a man, Ted Allen and there were three judges, this episode there was a male and two females. The contestants were equally distributed in respect to gender, two male, two female, also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This show began with a number of very brightly colored shots of different fruits and vegetables as well as a few entrees in the mix. The music that played was very upbeat and in the slides she was in she was enjoying herself with friends. On this episode she was preparing lunch for a friend in exchange for him redesigning her garden. On the menu was Pea soup, roasted red pepper and gat cheese sandwiches, and for dessert she prepared a carrot and pineapple cake. I noticed throughout the episode that her instructions for the audience were easy and detailed enough to follow along with. I think this style went along with the personality she portrayed which was a happy and laid back kind of person. The presentation of her meal was on all white dishes, the dishes matched the décor of her kitchen. She was very adamant on using fresh herbs from her garden which was a feature that episode. As far as gender norms go I think she followed the stereotype expected of the woman very closely in terms of cooking style, utensils, and menu items. • 29. Replace Traditional Components Like Diesel Generators Essay ABSTRACT The aim of this paper is to replace traditional components like diesel generators which are used to generate power in a microgrid with renewable energy sources for an Air force field deployable hospital (AFFDH). In this paper we assume that Air force field deployable hospital consumes approximately 70KVA of peak power. ETAP software is used to operate for island and grid connected mode and also load flow and short circuit analysis are performed on the system for variety of load and fault scenarios. INTRODUCTION Usage of renewable energy resources in production of electricity is considered as effective method for environment and also for future generation by saving up the fossil fuels. The investments on the renewables in United States in 2014 is about $38.3billion [1].The renewable energy usage is increasing in United States mainly because of the state and local governments, utility companies and other private investors. The U. S Department of Defense is the largest consumer of electric energy, it is about 54% of the total government use [3][4]. Generally, for the Department of defense existing commercial power is used or diesel generators. But the cost of fuel keeps on increasing and diesel generators are not that feasible compared to new technologies. During natural disasters or other attacks usage of diesel generators is not that recommendable because the cost of investment is very high and also maintain fuel supply is difficult. • 32. Argument Against Native Sovereignty in Canda Essay This paper supports Thomas Flanagan s argument against Native sovereignty in Canada; through an evaluation of the meanings of sovereignty it is clear that Native sovereignty can not coexist with Canadian sovereignty. Flanagan outlines two main interpretations of sovereignty. Through an analysis of these ideas it is clear that Native Sovereignty in Canada can not coexist with Canadian sovereignty. The first interpretation of sovereignty that is examined by Flanagan views sovereignty in an international sense. Sovereignty for these leaders means gaining more international power and acceptance. Flanagan argues that major international bodies such as the United Nations will be accepting such an attempt at sovereignty (71). As the second ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Flanagan s analysis of Native sovereignty internationally is effectively argued. International organizations such as the World Trade Organization and United Nations would be hesitant to accept sovereignty of Aboriginal people. Although it is commonly known that many bands within Canada have access to significant natural resources the majority do not. Flanagan is very direct in stating that (outside of transfer payments from the government of Canada which would presumably stop to a sovereign nations) most bands are very weak economically (73). It would be extremely difficult therefore to afford to send delegates to these international bodies. Without significant monetary support no sovereign state can be involved in significant international organizations. Flanagan also soundly refutes the idea of a united Aboriginal sovereign state. Most Aboriginals would likely agree the greatest evil committed against them by European settlers has been the attempts of assimilation. By gaining sovereignty they would be free from these attempts, at least in theory. However in order to develop a significant voice working as one would result into a similar problem. As mentioned above language, religion and other major difference would make a union extremely difficult. Therefore with these issues present it would not be possible for native sovereignty to coexist with Canadian sovereignty. Flanagan examines sovereignty as originally defined by philosophers; this definition defines ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. The Pathophysiology of Acute Renal Failure, Questions and... Problem: A man arrives at a clinic with complaints of asthenia, malaise, headache, weight gain, and a decrease in urination. A tentative diagnosis of acute renal failure is made. 1. Explain the pathophysiology of acute renal failure. Include prerenal, intrarenal, and postrenal causes. The Urinary System plays an important role in our everyday life. It s most important functions are maintenance of homeostasis, manufacture hormones that we need, and to process our wastes for elimination. Our kidneys are part of this whole system; bad habits and lifestyle affect the whole cycle. This system has a long list of disorders and diseases that an individual may acquire; one of these is Acute Renal Failure (ARF). Its fast development impairs the kidneys unless the problem is found immediately and treated. In Acute Renal Failure (ARF) the kidneys suddenly stops working. It loses its functions, which are: eliminate wastes, maintain fluid balance, and preserve our body s electrolytes. Blood enters the kidneys through the renal arteries and leaves through the renal veins. The strength of pressure exerted onto the kidneys is what makes the glomerular filtration work. The glomerulus, or the capillary network inside the Bowman s capsule, is the filtration system. This pressure depends upon the flow of blood and the resistance between the afferent and efferent arterioles. The afferent aterioles brings blood to the glomeruli; while the efferent arteriole takes the blood away. When the flow ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
