Essay about European Colonialism and Imperialism
How were the Europeans able to conquer and control large areas of the globe? What gave them a great
advantage over other groups? The proximate cause of this advantage was their possession of guns,
germs, and steel. But how is it that they possessed these things and others did not? Ultimate causes of
the Europeans possession of these guns, germs, and steel could be Divine Providence. People at the
time thought that God favored the Europeans over other groups. Another ultimate cause could have
been Scientific Racism. Other people believed that the Europeans were genetically superior to the
other regions of the world. Now, because of Jared Diamond s thesis, we can conclude that the ultimate
cause of European colonialism and imperialism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Africa had 51 candidates but none of them could be domesticated. In the Americas, there were 24
candidates but only 1 was domesticated. In Australia, there was only 1 candidate and they could not
domesticate it. Even though there were many of candidates for domestication in areas other than
Eurasia, most of those animals just simply couldn t be domesticated. It was not because of the cultures
in these places, it was because the animals had to fit under certain requirements. They had to be the
right size, have an easy diet, have a stable growth rate, and have a pleasant disposition. For example,
an elephant could not be domesticated because it takes a long time for the elephant to reach its full
size. Also, a zebra could not be domesticated because it would violently bite and, zebras in general,
were too hard to domesticate. Again, we have a clear example of geographic luck. Disease gave
Europe a large advantage when conquering wide expanses of land around the globe. South Africans
and Australian Aborigines had no domesticated animals. They didn t form any immunity to European
diseases because they did not live in close proximity with any non domesticated animals. However,
Europeans had lived with domesticated farm animals for thousands of years. The diseases of the
Europeans came from farm animals but immunities formed over time. The Native Americans, South
Africans, and Australian Aborigines did not have any immunity to disease like the Europeans did. The

Alexander the Great Summary 16
Alexander the Great Alexander the Great was the king of Macedonia, conqueror of the Persian
Empire, and one of the greatest military geniuses of all times. Even at an early age, Alexander had the
promise to become a great leader. Through all his victories and conquests, he has become a great hero
and has had a large impact on history. That is why I chose he book Alexander the Great, by J.R.
Hamilton for my review. Hamilton does a very good job with the story of Alexander the Great. The
book begins by talking about the Macedonian homeland and the make up of the people, their culture.
Alexander was born in 356 BC in Pella, the ancient capital of Macedonia he was the son of Philip II,
king of Macedonia, and of Olympias, a princess of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In June he contracted a fever and died. He left his empire, in his own words, to the strongest ; this
uncertain testament resulted in huge conflicts for half a century. Hamilton believes that this could have
possible been Alexander s greatest mistake, because his empire then falls apart. Though all of his
conquest Hamilton talks about how well, if not planned that the Hellenistic culture was spread.
Alexander was one of the greatest generals of all time, which was why I was interested in this book in
the first place. I really enjoyed reading this book because it used great detail and talked about other
important things in Alexander s life then what everyone knows him for. Hamilton reaches the reader
by using such great description, and you actually can visualize what you are reading. You think you
can see what the people look like or even see the battlefield. Hamilton also does a good job of
breaking down each section so that everything isn t just thrown into a huge mess. However, sometimes
in the book I found somethings and words hard to understand and Hamilton also got confusing once in
awhile. Overall I really liked the book and it has increased my interest in the history of Grrk and

Native American Boarding Schools Essay
What if the only thing that brought generations of families together were stripped from children?
Native Indians had this happen to them when they attended boarding schools in the late 1900s. The
language you are born into is the glue that can keep a strong bond within your culture and family.
Language barriers can cause families to be unable to bond and these children may feel as if they
cannot have a relationship with their family members. The Indian boarding schools were a destructive
form of dehumanization since the way it tore culture from students, changed their culture into the
culture they thought was right, and caused many Native Indians family troubles as well as depression
and confusion. To understand what was stripped from these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The boarding schools educators suppressed tribal languages and cultural practices and sought to
replace them with English, Christianity, athletic activities, and a ritual calendar intended to further
patriotic citizenship (Davis 20). Not only had the boarding schools taken away Native American
culture, they were forcing the Native Americans into a different culture. The language was quite
challenging to learn, especially to the older students. Learning a new language is much harder at an
older age, and while being bilingual is vey helpful, these Native Americans were not allowed to speak
their Native language. A Native American girl stated she, remembers another little girl making a
mistake in her use of English and being ridiculed for it. ... The English language was difficult to learn
(Vizenor 102). These Native Americans were learning a brand new language, being stripped from
theirs, and they would be picked on if they did not have perfect English right away. Many chose to
keep quite so they would not make mistakes. Taking away Native American children s language
caused many challenges at home. Many children were confused, homesick, as well as resentful. Many
of the children attending these boarding schools did not understand why their parents sent them to
boarding school. For many it was because family members were, sick then. He don t want to take care
of a little one so he pushed me to school (Burich 5). Many children would not understand why they

It is a movie about coping with fear and trauma, and about learning to appreciate perspectives or
individuals who initially frighten or even repulse you. Our two principal characters, Cole Sear and
Malcolm Crowe, embody both of those themes perfectly. Sear s absent parent would be cause enough
for worries about guilt, but his extrasensory encounters further isolate and terrify him. He recognizes
his alienation from his fellow students, and has had to become mature at a young age. He tries to solve
his problems on his own as well as he is able to, gathering up any and all remotely paranormal or
religious icons as a bulwark against his fears. But it is not until, on Crowe s suggestion, Sear extends a
hand to his post mortem aggressors that he is able to recognize that there is and always has been an
attempt at communication, which he has always misinterpreted. Viewing this movie now, we can
clearly see that the societal norm to judge a book by its cover, or be repulsed to someone by their
looks or who they are, is being challenged. The writer and director did a tremendous job portraying
this controversial issue throughout the

The Monkey s Paw Essay
If you could wish for three things, would you? Would you try to change fate? In The Monkey s Paw
by W.W. Jacobs the White family uses the monkey s paw three wishes and try and change their fate.
They first wish for money, but instead the wish kills Herbert White, their son. Trying to revive Herbert
they use their second wish for life. After Mr. White hears a knock on the door he uses the third wish
for death realizing that Herbert would not be the same person, but instead mutilated. This short story
fits into the horror genre because of its traditional setting, outside source, and theme.
To begin with, the traditional setting of The Monkey s Paw is a big part of it being classified in the
horror genre. At the very beginning of the story, in lines 1 20, it says the night was cold and wet and
pathway s a bog and the road s a torrent . This quote makes the readers think of a run down place that
is cold, dark, and wet like someone would expect from the horror genre.
Next, the outside source of the cursed monkey paw also makes this short story part of the horror
genre. The quote in line 73 says, It had a spell put on it by an old fakir . This quote tells the readers
that the monkey s paw is cursed and as they continue reading the story more things keep going bad
such as Herbert s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In lines 105 112 it says He took the paw dangling it between his forefinger and thumb, suddenly threw
it upon the fire. White, with a slight cry, stooped down and snatched it of . This quote shows how Mr.
White wanted to keep the paw even though the sergeant major had told him it was dangerous.
Concluding that Mr. White was searching for forbidden knowledge to see if the paw could really grant
wishes since he knew the paw was cursed. The theme search for forbidden knowledge is a common
theme in the horror genre and makes The Monkey s Paw a part of the horror genre

The Benefits Of Raising The Minimum Wage
Raising the minimum wage helps both the employees and employers. Boosting the economic growth
in America. Minimum wage helps ensure a fair wage for the low paid workers. There have been
debates on this economical topic for years, whether if it should or shouldn t be raised. In the United
States, the Minimum wage should be raised. By doing so it brings good benefits and keeps the
economy stable.
Raising minimum wage helps improve the public health in the United States. The public health effect
is often left out whenever there is a discussion on raising the minimum wage. The public health
impacts greatly on low income Americans by raising the minimum wage. By improving the health of
many Americans, medical care cost would also change. Zhou Chen and David Meltzer conducted a
research if both the obesity rates and minimum wage are connected in a way. By using the data from
Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System also known as BRFSS, Chen and Meltzer were able to
find a connection between the two. BRFSS interviews more than 350,000 adults each year, making it
the largest health survey in the world.
Through the PSID DaeHwan and J. Paul Leigh found that low wage does increase obesity and body
mass by a statistical test. Panel Study of Income Dynamics (PSID) is a long term survey of a set of
households in the United States. Around $190 billion dollars are spent on obesity each year in medical
bills. If the minimum wage raised, there would be a ten percent decrease in

How Have Cigarette Ads Changed Over The Years
While researching information for the group assignment our group found that over the year s cigarette
ads have changed tremendously. Diego decided to study ads created in the 1960 s where ads were
targeted at every marketing group possible. The ads were promoted as something everyone was doing.
Even the Flintstone cartoon characters were used in cigarette commercials. Companies promoted
cigarettes as a product that not only has a great tobacco taste, but is also quiet refreshing and soothing.
Most ads during this time period involved couples where the leading man attracted the women with
his cool refreshment of the cigarette. Other ads tried to persuade smokers to get rid of the old items
that are not working out so great such as their choice of cigarettes, and switch over to their Kool
cigarettes. Every company tried convince consumers that their cigarettes were better than the ... Show

Here, advertisements moved away from being short films as seen in the 60 s and focused solely on
their sales pitch. A lot of commercials still kept the couples romance theme, but added a catchy song
along with a nice jingle that pulled in the viewers attention. Other companies decided to include
coupons that could be used to purchase other retail items at a discounted price to draw in customers.
During the 90 s cigarette companies were forced to make the consumer aware of the hazardous issues
cigarettes could cause but were still pretty amazing to smoke. Even with customers knowing the harm
cigarettes could do to your health, people still had the urge contaminate their bodies for a puff of
nicotine. Around this decade one company decided to throw a new product into the tobacco business
by selling something to help people give up the bad habit of smoking. Little did they know, this
product would change the tobacco market over the next few

Emperor Shi Huang Di How Did He Die
The Ancient Chinese Immortal Emperor Dead!?
Emperor Qin Shi Huang Di has recently died on the 10th of September 210BC, but how? There must
be a reason for why an emperor only at age 40 died!
So Emperor Qin Shi Huang Di isn t Immortal or is he?
A big question that everybody is lingering about is is our emperor immortal or not? well I guess we all
know that he isn t immortal, meaning that he isn t still alive, but is he immortal in the afterlife, or will
he come back to life again? No one would really know until something happens and he rules over us
again.
Before He Died
Before the emperor died he forced his army to make him terracotta warriors so that he could have an
army in the afterlife. They had to even make all of the horses and carriages because they were apart of
the army it looks like all of the statues would have taken a long time to make.

Shutter Island Film Analysis
The following is written to examine a connection made between the varying texts using manipulation
and how it impacts the audience s perception of reality. The texts I will include which are evident of
manipulation are Shutter Island a visual thriller directed by Martin Scorsese, Inception a visual action,
adventure conducted by Christopher Nolan, Twelfth Night written by William Shakespeare, and Tell
Tale Heart produced by Edgar Allan Poe. I decided to choose texts that are recognized for their
brilliance. Both visual and written texts are contrasted in relation to time, the visual texts are of
modern era whereas the written texts are of a previous generation.

Towards the final scenes of the film, Daniels becomes increasingly aware of the impact he has made
on his society, hence the title Shutter Island//Shot her Island . Daniels realizes his guilt through the
way the characters have helped him to discover who he really is, Daniels is able to sum it up to the
audience through the dialogue Which would be worse: To live as a monster, or to die as a good man?
The audience is able to understand that Daniels has accepted his reality, making him the good man . A
common theme today is not accepting reality or being in denial, this is due to the way denying the
reality of something enables the body to cope (bodies defence mechanism1). The character of Daniels
helps to influence today s society by showing us that accepting the reality we create is better than to
regret or deny it. Thus, changing the way, we perceive reality.
In the film Inception , Nolan influences the audience to connect to the character of Dominic Cobb.
Like Shutter Island the character (Cobb) in this film is also revolved around. Nolan uses a theme
evident in today s society, the perception of reality to develop and connect the portrayal of Cobb and
connect the audience. In terms of Cobb, this theme can be translated to his internal conflict of dreams
versus reality. Nolan inflects an emotional connection to Cobb and the audience through this internal
conflict. A

The purpose of the dinner table is for the three leaders to discuss how they are to trying to help rebuild
the nation. In February 1790, two Quaker deputations request a House calling for the federal
government to put an end to African slave trade. The Constitutional Convention from New York is
trying to end the slavery, but no actions are to take place until 1808. Furthermore, the Pennsylvania
Abolition Society is signed by Benjamin Franklin, it urged the Congress to take such measures in their
wisdom, as the powers with which they are invested will authorize, for promoting the abolishing of
slavery and discouraging every species of traffic in slavery (83). First, the deputations suggest that
both slavery and slave trade is discordant to the values of American Revolution. Second, it challenges
the claim that the Constitution prohibited action. The general welfare is a way to avoid it.
In addition, in 1796, George Washington announces a speech, Farewell Address stating that he is not
going to run for reelection, after only serving two terms. Americans have to now defend themselves.
The political parties are now put to use after the election of 1776. It is now up to John Adams and

Title
Development Ethics and Environmental Injustices in Bangladesh
Research Problem
Critiques of understanding development as regards the processes of economic growth,
industrialization, and modernization are common on the grounds that it raises as many problems as it
solves. As a reaction, some scholars propose a normative understanding of development as the point of
departure for overcoming economic and social inequalities and deprivations. Hence, the question
arises concerning how benefits and burdens of development should be distributed in society. This is
also the main theme of what we call environmental justice. Apart from the problem of balanced
distribution of costs and benefits, environmental justice also addresses the capacity of involvement in
either directly or indirectly the decision making process in the society. This account makes it
imperative that addressing environmental injustice depends on understanding how environmental
hazards affect some people more than others. The aspects of environmental justice, therefore, are
twofold: the participation in the decision making process and the just allocation of benefits and
burdens. Taking this account into consideration, it can be argued with substantial evidence that the
phenomena of environmental injustice are prevalent in Bangladesh. As a consequence of numerous
development

Disadvantages Of Technology
Have you ever wondered what STEM stands for? Well, if your curious, it means science, technology,
engineering, and mathematics. Wondering what these words mean? OK well, Science is were the
intellectual and practical activity encompassing the systematic study of the structure and behavior of
the physical and natural world through observation and experiment. Science is used for many things
like discovering lots of different things, finding new sicknesses, and curing cancer. Technology, the
application of scientific knowledge for practical, especially in industry. You use technology for many
different things. You can use it for launching rockets into outer space! Keep your home safe and make
sure no robbers or intruders break into your house. Without technology, this planet would be a little
off, we couldn t send Neil Armstrong to the moon, or let Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5 sing their
awesome music. Technology helps use in our everyday social lives, sure technology can be bad in
ways, for example texting someone while driving a car or different vechical. You don t want to ever
over use technology! According to Junior Thorpe For decades, studies of indicated that spending
significant time parked in front of a screen whether it s a TV, computer or tablet lowers cardiovascular
health outcomes and increases mortality risk. And the unfortunate thing about this that exercising
doesn t do anything to help. But at certain times using phones and other technology can really help,
you can call the doctor s office when you re sick so you know what sickness you have. You can call or
text friends and family when they are sick or need a little help and stay in touch with them.
Engineering, the branch of science and technology concerned with the design, building, and use of
engines, machines, and structures work done by, or the occupation of, an engineer. Engineering really
helps in our everyday lives because without engineering we wouldn t have homes, schools, offices,

Violent Video Games Essay
The Case for Violent Video Games Video Games have been a source of fun and enjoyment for many
people, whether they are kids or adults. Violent video games are the most popular types of video
games. Many young gamers are quite obsessed over these games. Recently violent video games
(VVGs) have been accused of being the source to many mass shootings in the world, accused of
corrupting the minds of young gamers. This is wrong. Violent Behavior in Video Games Violent video
games are blamed for being linked to levels of aggression. Many people believe VVGs raise levels of
aggression; however, studies show that belief is false. Although VVGs have violent content, it does
not coincide with the levels of aggression being increased. Ratings for VVGs have regressed from
their original state of maturity, meaning younger kids can play these games. If young children are
approved to play VVGs then there must be reasons. Adults want their children to be social and make
friends and video games can help them do that. According to Jack Hollingdale, playing cooperative
team player video games increases empathy and decreases aggression (Hollingdale, 2014). Aggression
levels are not the only factors thought to be linked to VVGs, hostility levels are another topic for
arguing. To help prove that video games do not make young gamers want to hurt others a study was
done. This study consisted of 43 young adults from ages 12 18, most of the youth were Caucasian
American males. The

Indian Water Rights Summary
This journal evaluates the nature of Indian water rights in their reservations. It also evaluates the use
of tribal sovereignty to protect water rights in Indian country. Indian country in the United States uses
their land for many hazardous practices to help their economic output. Their concern is to maintain a
good economic status by using their land that is not regulated by the states. The Indian reservation was
created for the benefit of the Indian tribes, not the U.S. government. Lately, we have seen a lot of
mining, oil gas, and fracking activities in their land.
This journal has an example that put the Fort Belknap Indian reservation to have the rights of the Milk

administration of the drug to a mouse. The drug will be administered into the olfactory mucosa of a
mouse. To determine whether the antiGAD SHNNC GAD is active after administration, the motor unit
activity of all mice will be recorded by electromyography (EMG) device. EMG will demonstrate a
higher rate of involuntary motor unit firing as well as continuous motor unit activity in control
GAD65 / mice due to lack of synaptic vesicular GABA as an inhibitory neurotransmitter. However,
drug administered GAD65 / mice will show normal motor unit activity (predicted result). In addition,
to determine in vivo activity of antiGAD SHNNC GAD, mice need to be sacrificed and the amount of
GABA can be determined by LCMS as described before (Fig. 26). We will also monitor neural
activity and seizure development in GAD65 / , GAD67 / and GAD65.67−/− mice with
electroencephalographic (EEG) recordings (telemetry system, IMT 100E, Star Medical, Tokyo Japan)

Tennessee State University Strong Interest Inventory Reflection
The Strong Interest Inventory, or SII, is an interest inventory used in career assessment to give insight
into a person s interests, so that they may have less difficulty in deciding on an appropriate career
choice for themselves (Prince, 1998). The inventory is used in career development for high school and
college students to measure interest. The current inventory corresponds with Holland s codes from the
theory of types. The codes consist of RIASEC and each letter is a type that corresponds with the type
of personality that may be suited for a type of career (Sharf, 2010). The writer completed the Strong

Pecan Fest Essay
My favorite Pecan Fest year was 2016 s. It is my favorite year because of the rides and fun with my
friends. I remember on the first day riding certain rides such as pharos fury with one of my friends
because he was deathly afraid of them and having the time of our lives. My friends and I always had a
rule to hang out by the side of the church building and throw confetti eggs at each other or the wall of
the gym for some reason to mess around and have fun. One of the best things about the Pecan Fest is
the food. The food was amazing especially the cheese fries because they were always warm and tasted
amazing, the only problem was that most of my friends would see I have cheese fries and ask for
them. The best part in my opinion was riding the

How Did Ww1 Impact Australian Society
The Gallipoli campaign impacted Australian society in many ways. This includes; the great loss of
young men, changes in traditional women s roles in the community and how Australia was recognised
as a worthy country by Britain and other parts of the world. World War 1, otherwise known as the
Great War, began on the 28th of July 1914 and continued until the 11th of November 1918. Countries
such as Germany, Austria Hungary, Bulgaria and the Ottoman Empire battled against Great Britain,
France, Russia, Italy, Romania, Japan and the United States. When the war was over, the Allied
Powers claimed their victory.
World War 1, also known as The war to end all wars or The Great war was an international conflict
between several countries. It all began when Archduke Franz Ferdinand, nephew of Emperor Franz
Josef and heir to the Austro Hungarian Empire, was assassinated on the 28th of June 1914 alongside
his wife, Sophie, Duchess of Hohenberg. After the incident, the outbreak of World War 1 sparked and

During this time, Australia was in the middle of an election campaign. The Australian Labour Party
leader, Andrew Fisher and Prime Minister Joseph Cook pledged Australian support to Britain to the

hurried to recruit for the war, which was expected to be finished before Christmas. At that time,
Australia s population was under 5 million people, over 416 809 men volunteered to join the war, but
60 000 were killed and approximately 156 000 were wounded. As of this, the women back in Australia

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time by Mark...
It has become paramount that composers utilise various techniques in order to influence an individual
s perception of the world. As seen through the eyes of an Aspergers sufferer, Christopher Boone, Mark
Haddon s inventive novel entitle The Curious incident of the Dog in the Night Time , skilfully
portrays how the decisions of significant characters and their relationships shape the overall message
about the difficulties of living with a limiting social condition. This is challenged from the unique
perspective of Christopher and explicitly seen through the relationship between the protagonist and
both his parents. Haddon employs a myriad of techniques through the concepts of the conflicting
nature of love, the desperation for a world of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unlike Ed, her hot tempered nature and her inability to empathise with her son, has meant that she is
unable to adapt to the demands of Christopher s social barriers. This is evident in a letter in chapter
157 where she states Maybe if things had been differant, maybe if you d been differant i might have
been better at it. But thats just the way things turned out . The repetition of maybe demonstrates the
initial complexity of human communication which in Christophers case, was further complicated by
his social demands. Through Mark Haddon s incorporation of a letter in this chapter, the difficulties in
human communication is shown as his mother has resorted to indirect communication in explaining
her reasoning for his abandonment. Although Judy lovingly and diligently cares for Christopher she
struggles with the frustration she feels as a result of not always being able to understand her son s
behaviour. This ideology is further reiterated through the comparison in the letter between Ed and
Judy seen in Your father is a much more pacient person. He just gets on with things.. But that s not the
way i am... Haddon s characterisation of Christopher s parents presents to the responder the
conflicting side of love, the multi faceted and complicated nature of human interaction, and the
opposing approaches of both parents in communicating and dealing with Christopher s condition, as
part of their

Why I Want To Be A Drummer
Drummers are perennially underrated. Some writers make rock critic jokes, even other musicians
make drummer jokes. But where would the Beatles be without their drummer Ringo Star. The real
human drummer was replaced with electronic computer machines during the eighties and nineties for
a while, but music fans realized that this was not as good as the sound of a real talented drummer. The
drummer does not just support the band they hold it up and push the forward. Robert Plant, the lead
singer of Led Zeppelin was very fond of his drummer, John Bonham, who was one of the best
drummers out there during his time and even today. When he passed away the lead singer could not go
on anymore in the band Led Zeppelin, because he knew it would not be the same without his original
and super talented drummer. The loss of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This goes to show just how important the drummer is and how they can keep a band together.
The argument on how much practice it takes to be a drummer is essential for new musicians to learn
about because if they truly want to be a drummer they must know that it is not the usual go to
instrument in a band. It takes so much patience and practice to become a good enough drummer to
even be in a band. It is also imperative to know how much work goes into becoming the drummer
because some fans may view the drummer as just the guy or girl in the background where they need to
realize how a band cannot be a band without the drummer. This argument is also for the drummers out
there who need to receive more recognition from their fans. Drumming has been around forever, and it
is such remarkable instrument to learn. Drummers may also

Principles Of Integrity In Public Administration
There are three ethical principles that are the most important for officials to excel in the field of public
administration. These principles are ranked below from 1 being the most important to 3 being
important. Demonstrate personal integrity (1) There has not been much discussion about the code of
ethics in the past administrations than in Trump Administration. Personal integrity is an asset in today
s time where the political chaos runs the White House and where a hullabaloo takes place every week.
The atmosphere of chaos prevails in the government and society, which causes disruptive governance
to run in every level. In this presidency, there is a sense of aristocracy where the privileged class has
taken over the voice of the people and only depends on those members of Congress who adhere to
integrity to do what is right for the least privilege. Upbringing integrity to the best of one character
brings out courage to overcome obstacles. It is not a secret that if officials who hold high positions and
stand by their own decisions always fear repercussions, but with this administration, they fear
dismissal. For example, the attorney general Saly Yates, who was fired after she defied the president s
executive order banning people from seven Muslim majority countries entering the U.S. (Newsweek,
2017). She decided to stand by her position and she was punished for demonstrating integrity on an
issue that deserves more evaluation for policy implementation. Demonstrating

Business Strategy For Competitive Advantage
Pre requisite Module: Business Strategy for competitive advantage Previous Module: Introduction to
people management (Hill, 2009) state Molex s competitive advantage is based on a strategy that
blends low costs, excellent customer service, and the mass production of standardized products that
are sold globally . Using a pre requisite module like business strategy for competitive advantage, it
can be assumed that Molex are using theoretical concepts from porters generic strategies like focused
low cost and differentiation in order to gain an advantage over their competitors as previously
mentioned in the case study. (Sowell, 2006) further illustrates this point stating firms like Molex will
drive their cost lower through investments in plant efficiencies . Linking this back to (Hill, 2009)
where it goes on to say that manufacturing sites are located in countries where cost conditions are
favorable . We can therefore see that these countries, which are cost favorable, were not chosen at
random, but instead selected using a focused low cost strategy. This informs companies like Molex to
invest their resources in plant efficiencies, further suggesting that these plant efficiencies means an
area where capacity utilization can be met but keeping both fixed and variable costs low. This
favorable country that is not specified in the case study, could be less developed a country where
exchange rate is favorable to the US dollar. Hitt et al. (2006) states a

industries, like mobile device production, Social Network Service and cigarette production, somehow
managed to survive and have been doing great performances so far. Many industries prospering and

Actually, the industry is oligopoly. There are many buyers and few large sellers. Also, they have the
power over prices because the nature of product is different and similar. The most important part is
that going to this industry and going out from this industry are highly hard. In order to approach the
value of $957.5 billion, the value of the North American oil and gas market decreased around 40% in
2009. Many experts expected that the market value in 2014 was forecast to reach the value of $957.5
billion, going up of 45.3% since 2009. Technically, there are Top 4 companies with in the industry in
North America such as Chevron, ConocoPhillips, Exxon Mobil Corporation, and Petroleos

The Death Penalty Is Cruel And Unusual Punishment
Some people think that abolishing the death penalty would cause criminals to commit more capital
crimes. Although to some degree this is true, I believe that if a criminal is going to commit any capital
crime his or her first thought is how can I get away with this? Most criminal may not even think about
getting caught. For me this statement applies to the mentally ill convicts, which is one of the reasons
why I m against the death penalty. Besides the execution of an mentally ill person these are the
reasons why I oppose the death penalty the death penalty is racist, the death penalty is cruel and
unusual punishment, the death penalty is not a deterrent to violent crime, the death penalty condemns
the innocent to die, and the death penalty punishes the poor. The death penalty is a punishment to
execute, which is overseen to someone who is legally convicted of a capital crime. In my opinion the
objective of the death penalty is an eye for an eye for both the justice system and the victim family.
Some people may consider it as a lesson, which ultimately only a person who understands they have
done wrong can learn from that lesson. A mentally ill person doesn t have the mentality to understand
the real world and what is going on around them, because of their symptoms. Yet this system allows
them to represent themselves if they wish too. According to Laura Hallas, When death sentences
increase from just a quarter of the national average to the national average, error rates

Buddhism As Meditation Of Buddhism
as meditation. In short, in adapting to a changing world, Buddhism has transformed in many ways to
fit the needs and desires of the cultures it has come into contact with.
Moreover, aside from the shift to a less ritualistic approach, many Buddhist forms have also moved
towards a stress on equality over hierarchy. To begin with, in traditional Buddhism, a believer s length
of practice or education determines the weight of their opinions. This especially applies regarding
scripture. However, putting this into perspective, in the words of McMahan, it would have occurred to
virtually no one, simply to pick up such a book and try to understand it for himself (even less herself).
That is to comment on how interpreting Buddhist scriptures ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Jazz Concert Report The concert I decided to go to was held in Valley Brewing Company. The event
was called Take 5, Jazz at the Brew . I went to the show July 11, 2013. The group I saw didn t have a
name. It was just a group of people performing together. The concert hall was a very nice venue. It
was on an extended closed off area past the common area at the bar. The area was very dim lit and was
decorated very fancy and elaborate. The music that was played that night was Jazz. The group had 4
people in the group and they all came from different backgrounds. The Drummer was a young African
American male that was very talented. The trumpet player was a heavy set Caucasian male that looked

The song was called Funk Indeed Free . The texture to this song was very soft. Not all the instruments
were competing with each other like the last song. The song had some form to it aside from the
trumpet. The trumpet was very wild and had many different ranges. The melody was the same
throughout the song aside from the trumpet as well. There was a steady flow throughout the whole
song. The dynamic of the song was very calm and quiet aside from the trumpet. I didn t appreciate that
because it was so distracting. The tempo was at a mild pace. Not all the instruments were played
during this song. It was only 2 instruments played at a time during the whole time. The next song on
the playlist was called Everything Happens To Me . The texture to this was very soft as well. The
instruments were playing off each other but it was still a freestyle type of song. I think jazz is
generally played like freestyle. There was no melody to this song. The rhythm was not existent as
well. It was more of a free flowing song. This song had a very quiet dynamic. It sounded very
romantic like something out of a movie. The tempo of the song was very slow and mild but the
trumpet was going very fast. The cello and the drums had a portion of the song where they fed off
each other s energy and the trumpet was doing its own thing. The last song on the set list was called

The Ethics Case Contemplation, Dilemma At Devil s Den
The ethics case contemplation, Dilemma at Devil s Den, is an unblemished precedent of the
challenges that can appear at an establishment that question s the moral ethics of business. The Devil s
Den is a snack bar on a college campus, which employed approximately 36 students with 6 of them in
management positions. Evening and weekend positions were difficult to fill, and wages were low,
making employees valuable. Therefore, the managers were more flexible in their actions and
correction measures were not enforced. In order for this den to carry on in an ethical manner it
transpired to be a challenge and culture shock for all staff involved.
The daily activities happening at the Devil s Den are unethical, some of them being minor issues, but
in the case with ethics small things can become big things. The line is blurred as to where you draw
the line. At the Devil s Den, employees are allowed to eat things out of the store room when working.
But, they were abusing this privilege by taking sizeable amounts of food home when their shift was
complete as well as when they were off duty. In addition, customers and employee friends have been
doing this as well, following suit of the employee s actions since they were never confronted. On the
same note of misconduct, one of the employees was actually caught stealing money out of the cash
register. His only punishment was to stay away from the cash register from now on.
It is important to realize many of the core causes stem from the

The General Strain Theory, And General Integrated Theory
This final theory is an extension of Hirschi s (1979) original idea of micro and macro dimensions
which are called cross level or multilevel integrations (Barak, 2002). The general strain theory is also
known as cross level or multilevel integrations including the reintegrative shaming theory, power
control theory, control balance theory and general integrated theory (Barak, 2002). These theories
combine theories like social bonding and social learning theories with structural theories such as
social disorganization and strain theories but does not address macro level factors that influence crime,
and instead focus solely on criminal behavior at the micro level. So far, very little theories suggested
have encompassed all levels of explaining criminology (Barak, 2002). This is a social structure macro
model which states that differential opportunities are not only crime class specific, but also are
accompanied by motivations for both crime and punishment. The introduction of an integrative theory
that analyzes the traits of locations and the people in the locations, rather than the people themselves.
It claims that deviant behavior is more prevalent in areas that are poorer (Barak, 2002). Life has many
daily strains and most do not lead to criminality but the greater the negative reaction, the higher the
probability for criminality. Also, a negative reaction perpetuates further negative reactions which leads
to a higher probability of criminal activities,

Lessons Learned In My Writing
I have learned that in order to write a good, meaningful essay I have to always be prepared so I can
never be caught off guard with my writing. I learned that organization is always helpful when it comes
to writing. Mark Twain said, Writing is easy. All you have to do is cross out the wrong words. One has
to first write and then see the errors, so they can fix them and end up with the best piece of work. I
learned that making a list of things I know about my topic before writing my essay is going to help me
out with the structure and facts in my writing. Donald Barthelme said Writing is a process of not
knowing, a forcing of what and how. And I would have to disagree with him. Like I said, making a list

Orwell also said, Sheer egoism. Desire to seem clever, to be talked about, to be remembered after
death, to get your own back on the grown ups who snubbed you in childhood, etc., etc. Readers not
always get the humor and sarcasm that some authors include in their writing but that s what makes the
readers wonder if the author is really being serious or not. Sarcasm makes the readers come back and
wanting more. Now that I learned all this new techniques, I can use them on my writing and hope for
the best. Now I know I should write the list of things I know about my topic before writing my essay
only after my sugar daddy is done telling me one of his stories about the party he once went with
Hugh Hefner, and not write the list the thing I know while he is telling me his story and I m not paying
attention to him. Turns out old men can be really sensitive. Now I know I should write the outline of
my story before my medical procedure is done and not after. Anesthesia really changed my whole

  • 2. Essay about European Colonialism and Imperialism How were the Europeans able to conquer and control large areas of the globe? What gave them a great advantage over other groups? The proximate cause of this advantage was their possession of guns, germs, and steel. But how is it that they possessed these things and others did not? Ultimate causes of the Europeans possession of these guns, germs, and steel could be Divine Providence. People at the time thought that God favored the Europeans over other groups. Another ultimate cause could have been Scientific Racism. Other people believed that the Europeans were genetically superior to the other regions of the world. Now, because of Jared Diamond s thesis, we can conclude that the ultimate cause of European colonialism and imperialism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Africa had 51 candidates but none of them could be domesticated. In the Americas, there were 24 candidates but only 1 was domesticated. In Australia, there was only 1 candidate and they could not domesticate it. Even though there were many of candidates for domestication in areas other than Eurasia, most of those animals just simply couldn t be domesticated. It was not because of the cultures in these places, it was because the animals had to fit under certain requirements. They had to be the right size, have an easy diet, have a stable growth rate, and have a pleasant disposition. For example, an elephant could not be domesticated because it takes a long time for the elephant to reach its full size. Also, a zebra could not be domesticated because it would violently bite and, zebras in general, were too hard to domesticate. Again, we have a clear example of geographic luck. Disease gave Europe a large advantage when conquering wide expanses of land around the globe. South Africans and Australian Aborigines had no domesticated animals. They didn t form any immunity to European diseases because they did not live in close proximity with any non domesticated animals. However, Europeans had lived with domesticated farm animals for thousands of years. The diseases of the Europeans came from farm animals but immunities formed over time. The Native Americans, South Africans, and Australian Aborigines did not have any immunity to disease like the Europeans did. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Alexander the Great Summary 16 Alexander the Great Alexander the Great was the king of Macedonia, conqueror of the Persian Empire, and one of the greatest military geniuses of all times. Even at an early age, Alexander had the promise to become a great leader. Through all his victories and conquests, he has become a great hero and has had a large impact on history. That is why I chose he book Alexander the Great, by J.R. Hamilton for my review. Hamilton does a very good job with the story of Alexander the Great. The book begins by talking about the Macedonian homeland and the make up of the people, their culture. Alexander was born in 356 BC in Pella, the ancient capital of Macedonia he was the son of Philip II, king of Macedonia, and of Olympias, a princess of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In June he contracted a fever and died. He left his empire, in his own words, to the strongest ; this uncertain testament resulted in huge conflicts for half a century. Hamilton believes that this could have possible been Alexander s greatest mistake, because his empire then falls apart. Though all of his conquest Hamilton talks about how well, if not planned that the Hellenistic culture was spread. Alexander was one of the greatest generals of all time, which was why I was interested in this book in the first place. I really enjoyed reading this book because it used great detail and talked about other important things in Alexander s life then what everyone knows him for. Hamilton reaches the reader by using such great description, and you actually can visualize what you are reading. You think you can see what the people look like or even see the battlefield. Hamilton also does a good job of breaking down each section so that everything isn t just thrown into a huge mess. However, sometimes in the book I found somethings and words hard to understand and Hamilton also got confusing once in awhile. Overall I really liked the book and it has increased my interest in the history of Grrk and Roman ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Native Indians had this happen to them when they attended boarding schools in the late 1900s. The language you are born into is the glue that can keep a strong bond within your culture and family. Language barriers can cause families to be unable to bond and these children may feel as if they cannot have a relationship with their family members. The Indian boarding schools were a destructive form of dehumanization since the way it tore culture from students, changed their culture into the culture they thought was right, and caused many Native Indians family troubles as well as depression and confusion. The boarding schools educators suppressed tribal languages and cultural practices and sought to replace them with English, Christianity, athletic activities, and a ritual calendar intended to further patriotic citizenship (Davis 20). Not only had the boarding schools taken away Native American culture, they were forcing the Native Americans into a different culture. The language was quite challenging to learn, especially to the older students. Learning a new language is much harder at an older age, and while being bilingual is vey helpful, these Native Americans were not allowed to speak their Native language. A Native American girl stated she, remembers another little girl making a mistake in her use of English and being ridiculed for it. ... The English language was difficult to learn (Vizenor 102). These Native Americans were learning a brand new language, being stripped from theirs, and they would be picked on if they did not have perfect English right away. Many chose to keep quite so they would not make mistakes. Taking away Native American children s language caused many challenges at home. Many children were confused, homesick, as well as resentful. Many of the children attending these boarding schools did not understand why their parents sent them to boarding school. For many it was because family members were, sick then. It is a movie about coping with fear and trauma, and about learning to appreciate perspectives or individuals who initially frighten or even repulse you. Our two principal characters, Cole Sear and Malcolm Crowe, embody both of those themes perfectly. Sear s absent parent would be cause enough for worries about guilt, but his extrasensory encounters further isolate and terrify him. He recognizes his alienation from his fellow students, and has had to become mature at a young age. He tries to solve his problems on his own as well as he is able to, gathering up any and all remotely paranormal or religious icons as a bulwark against his fears. But it is not until, on Crowe s suggestion, Sear extends a hand to his post mortem aggressors that he is able to recognize that there is and always has been an attempt at communication, which he has always misinterpreted. The audience is able to understand that Daniels has accepted his reality, making him the good man . A common theme today is not accepting reality or being in denial, this is due to the way denying the reality of something enables the body to cope (bodies defence mechanism1). The character of Daniels helps to influence today s society by showing us that accepting the reality we create is better than to regret or deny it. Thus, changing the way, we perceive reality. Development Ethics And Environmental Injustices Essay Research Proposal Kazi A S M Nurul Huda Assistant Professor Department of Philosophy University of Dhaka Dhaka 1000, Bangladesh Title Development Ethics and Environmental Injustices in Bangladesh Research Problem Critiques of understanding development as regards the processes of economic growth, industrialization, and modernization are common on the grounds that it raises as many problems as it solves. As a reaction, some scholars propose a normative understanding of development as the point of departure for overcoming economic and social inequalities and deprivations. Hence, the question arises concerning how benefits and burdens of development should be distributed in society. This is also the main theme of what we call environmental justice. Apart from the problem of balanced distribution of costs and benefits, environmental justice also addresses the capacity of involvement in either directly or indirectly the decision making process in the society. This account makes it imperative that addressing environmental injustice depends on understanding how environmental hazards affect some people more than others. The aspects of environmental justice, therefore, are twofold: the participation in the decision making process and the just allocation of benefits and burdens. Taking this account into consideration, it can be argued with substantial evidence that the phenomena of environmental injustice are prevalent in Bangladesh. Violent video games are the most popular types of video games. Many young gamers are quite obsessed over these games. Recently violent video games (VVGs) have been accused of being the source to many mass shootings in the world, accused of corrupting the minds of young gamers. This is wrong. Violent Behavior in Video Games Violent video games are blamed for being linked to levels of aggression. Many people believe VVGs raise levels of aggression; however, studies show that belief is false. Although VVGs have violent content, it does not coincide with the levels of aggression being increased. Ratings for VVGs have regressed from their original state of maturity, meaning younger kids can play these games. If young children are approved to play VVGs then there must be reasons. Adults want their children to be social and make friends and video games can help them do that. According to Jack Hollingdale, playing cooperative team player video games increases empathy and decreases aggression (Hollingdale, 2014). Aggression levels are not the only factors thought to be linked to VVGs, hostility levels are another topic for arguing. To help prove that video games do not make young gamers want to hurt others a study was done. This study consisted of 43 young adults from ages 12 18, most of the youth were Caucasian American males. Demonstrate personal integrity (1) There has not been much discussion about the code of ethics in the past administrations than in Trump Administration. Personal integrity is an asset in today s time where the political chaos runs the White House and where a hullabaloo takes place every week. The atmosphere of chaos prevails in the government and society, which causes disruptive governance to run in every level. In this presidency, there is a sense of aristocracy where the privileged class has taken over the voice of the people and only depends on those members of Congress who adhere to integrity to do what is right for the least privilege. Upbringing integrity to the best of one character brings out courage to overcome obstacles. It is not a secret that if officials who hold high positions and stand by their own decisions always fear repercussions, but with this administration, they fear dismissal.
