Disney Misogyny
In Disney films, there is a lot of misogyny amongst female main characters. Many people in our
society have noticed a significant difference in the speaking roles between male and female characters
that Disney created, as men had way more lines than the women. Because these movies were mostly
created in the mid late 1900 s, this was the time that there was plenty of prejudice against females.
Now, in the year 2017, females are getting a little more equality than before to the point where many
females now have jobs that were only for males in the 1900 s. Most Disney movies for that matter
involve some sort of misogyny, even the ones that recently came out such as Brave and Frozen .
Examples of various levels of misogyny can be noticed in Disney films such as Ariel in The Little
Mermaid (1989), directed by Ron Clements and John Musker. The movie is about a 16 year old
mermaid who wants to live on land with a human Prince named Eric but is only able to after making a
dangerous wish with Ursula the Sea Witch to be a human for three days. In this movie Ariel The
Mermaid , prejudice can be seen in Ursula, by a female having too much authority, Ariel cannot speak,
and Ariel uses her appearance to attract others.
Firstly, Ursula the Sea Witch can be seen with a ton of power. The power turns Ursula evil and
manipulative, which shows that females that have too much power should be removed from society,
just like Ursula. ...And now, look at me wasted away to practically

Analysis Of El Greco Made Me
At first while looking at the artworks it is actually not possible to figure out that the artist himself
might be representing him in his piece. But after reading the notes and knowing that the artist is also a
part in the image does enhances the two works of art. For the first image of The Burial of Count Orgaz
by El Greco, he did not include his portrait in the artwork, Instead, he included an image of his son.
On his son s handkerchief, he wrote, El Greco made me . That indicates how El Greco will live on
through this painting and through his son. But he is not done here yet, placed against the saint is one
of the El Greco s landscape paintings. Such portraits do enhance the artwork a lot. In the second image
of Las Menians by Velazquez is different from the previous one as the artist is prominently found in
this artwork. Left side of the image is dominated by the back of the artists and right side by the
figures. The figures including young princess, the king, and the Queen. The princess is all dressed up
for her portrait session with Velazquez. However, in the close up picture, I can see the artist seems
very bored by being there. As if he just wants to finish the portrait and leave. He has this unpleasant
face that according to me does enhance the artwork and makes in more interesting. He is like the focal
point of the piece to set the artwork unique beside others.
One way is in El Greco s artwork, how he includes the image of his son instead of him to refer himself

Michael Oher Differences In The Blind Side
Using the movie the blind side , I will focus on how other people made a difference for Michael Oher.
What did they do for him? He was a boy from the poorest side of the town and suddenly he was so
good in football that every coach wanted him. Michael moved into a family, and they changed his life
fast. Leigh Ann, the mother, was the one who wanted Michael to live with them. Michael s life was
changed dramatically after he moved in with Leigh Ann and her family. She gave him a bedroom and
changed his thoughts. An example of that is when Michael play football and Leigh Ann came to him
and said protect your teammates like you protect your family. When Leigh Ann saw that Michael s
grades were too low to play football at Ole Miss, she gave him

Heart Of Darkness By Joseph Conrads
In Joseph Conrads work, Heart of Darkness, many characters fall victim to insanity caused by the wild
environment. However, there are a select few who managed to leave the jungle unscathed after their
encounter with the foreign landscape and people. Among these few include the chief accountant of the
Outer Station, the foreman of mechanics, the manager of the Central Station, and Marlow. It was not
by chance that these men are able to retain their sanity. Each one of these individuals had an
occupation, background, lifestyle, or intellect that worked in their favor throughout their stay in the
Congo. One of the first men introduced to Marlow upon his arrival to the Outer Station is the company
s chief accountant. Not only is he impeccably dressed, but he is devoted entirely to his paperwork.
Marlow immediately observes, He was devoted to his books, which were in apple pie order (Conrad
46). The accountant s drive and nature of work are what occupy his time and keep him from losing his
mind amidst the dark and menacing jungle. His stationary and indoor occupation prevent him from
getting lost mentally and physically in the horrors of the jungle. His lack of exposure to the
environment allows him to maintain his civility, which can be observed through his polished
appearance and organized work. Consumed by his work, the accountant is distracted from the horrors
happening around him, remaining blissfully ignorant amongst his papers. Similarly, the foreman of

The Position of Islamic Lawin Malaysia
CHAPTER FOUR: THE POSITION OF ISLAMIC LAW IN MALAYSIA 4.1 Introduction It has been
argued, that if colonisation had not been responsible for the introduction and application of English
law, Islamic law would have developed to become the law of the land. Islamic law, coupled with the
customary law of the various races, indeed represent the indigenous sources or basic foundation upon
which the eventual growth of a legal system could have been founded.1 However, the grant of the
Charters of Justice 1826 to the Straits Settlements, and the eventual application of English law both
through the judicial process and through legislation in the Malay States had effectively displaced
Islamic law from its premier position. The role which Islamic ... Show more content on

The Comics As New Form Of Communication
Reenvisioning Comics as New Form of Communication It is a truth universally acknowledged that as
man has evolved into a more complex being, the appearance of pictures has gradually been replaced
by words. As children mature, they are often encouraged to read lengthy novels as opposed to comics,
which are deemed to be childish and simple. However, this denies them the potential that comics can
offer in terms of communication and creativity. In his graphic essay, Show and Tell, comic artist Scott
McCloud encourages the youth to utilize the benefits comics offer as a new form of expression. By
presenting examples of how words and pictures can be harmoniously used and by identifying elements
of comics that can enhance communication, McCloud is able to successfully argue for the importance
of comics as new mediums for literature and creative expression. In addition, Hillary Chute s essay,
Comics as Literature? Reading Graphic Narrative, further elaborates on the unique characteristics of
comics that can amplify expression, such as manipulating temporality. Furthermore, Why Teach with
Comics by Jennifer Haines illustrates how comics can be used to widen the potential audience of
writer and how they can improve the way people learn. In modern society, comics are viewed as
lowbrow, simple constructions of words and images, which are primarily used for recreation.

True Lies
One can argue that the veracity of autobiographies, by nature, is extremely deceptive. The vast
majority of the facts contained within them are colored, quite naturally, by the perceptions and
interpretations of the author. The tendency to take liberty with the truth is often exacerbated when the
author of such works has an affinity (or perhaps gift) for the written language, such as is the case with
both Ernest Hemingway and Gertrude Stein, who produced fairly unconventional autobiographical
works entitled A Moveable Feast and The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas, respectively. The
proclivity to glorify one s own actions and deeds in effect to make oneself appear cool is often an
irresistible temptation, especially for those writing about people (including themselves) whom
posterity admires, such as the lost generation of expatriate American writers living in Paris in the early
part of the 20th century. In light of that fact, it is interesting to note that both Hemingway and Stein
create an image of their

Introduction This experiment will discuss whether cream of tartar, laundry detergent, and vinegar are
neutral, bases or acids contingent on changes in color. Neutral substances are chemicals that have no
properties of either acids or bases, have equal parts hydrogen and hydronium ions and don t change
the color of litmus paper or other acid base indicators. A base is a chemical species that donates
electrons or hydroxide ions or that accepts protons. Bases tend to change the color of acid base
indicators to blue. An acid is a chemical species that donates protons or hydrogen ions and/or accepts

Wind Power and Wildlife Issues in Kansas
Remember in Wizard of Oz how Dorothy was swept away by a tornado, and how tornados are
massive wind storms. Well, it is no wonder they took the setting in Kansas. Kansas has been ranked
third in the nation for its potential wind resources (Wind Power and Wildlife Issues in Kansas). Wind
turbines have been placed all around Kansas, gathering wind to produce energy. Truth is it s causing
problems for animals and farmers. A great deal of biodiversity is being taken place throughout the
wildlife. Unhappy farmers complain about their land space and the effects it has on their farms. A
person would never know about these issues though, as far as they know, Kansas is helping produce

When companies wanted the turbines to be built, it opens up about 100 150 jobs for people. These
include the roads leading to the turbines, turbine foundations, construction of the turbines and then
hooking to the electrical collection systems. After this whole process is completed, 8 9 full time
employees oversee day to day operations and maintenance for the turbines. Kansas is ranked 5th for
the number of wind related jobs. Because of the energy the wind turbines create, it saved the capital
investment over $5 billion. The farmers make money off these turbines because the companies pay
them for placing the towers on their land. Farmers in all are making around $8,000,000 off land lease
payments a year. Not only are wind turbines making big bucks and big energy, but they are safe for the
environment! Generating wind power creates no emissions and uses virtually no water! About 2
billion gallons of water per year are being saved from the wind farms and turbines in Kansas. The
wind power installed in Kansas will avoid over 5.6 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually,
which is the equivalent of taking over 990,000 cars off the road. Another positive of the wind turbines
effecting the environment is how much it reduces nonrenewable energy. Wind energy does not get rid
of natural resources and renews every day as the earth cools and heats. The turbines only

The Variation Of Sugar-Collides
The sugar gliders genes coded for them to develop the ability to fly. This variation allowed them to
find more food sources they previously wouldn t have had access to. They may have needed more
food supllies because of competition in their environment. Therefore, this variation is valuable to the
sugar gliders because it prolongs their health and life, which is benefical to their reproductive success
as they can pass on this gene for flying to future offspring.

growing in their environment. These posionous berries may only be detected because they are a

Black Males and the Injustice of the Penal System Essay
The Injustice of African American men in the Penal System
Introduction
In 1954, at the time of the historic Brown v. Board of Education decision, African Americans
constituted about 30% of persons admitted to state and federal prisons. That figure should have been
disturbing since it was substantially higher than the black share of the national population. But that
proportion has now increased; still more dramatically, to the point where blacks represent half of all
prison admissions. This development would seem to be rather odd considering the changes that have
taken place in American society over the past half century. (Mauer amp; Huling, 1995) According to
2005 Census Bureau statistics, the male African American population ... Show more content on

For lower class males, the differences are even smaller, about 7:6 black to white.
Offenses by blacks are more likely to lead to arrest than those of whites. While the self reported
involvement of adolescent males represents a 3:2 black/white differential, the arrest ratio is 4:1.
While there are no dramatic differences in the degree to which blacks and whites become involved in
offending at some point, blacks are nearly twice as likely to continue offending into their twenties.
The key variable in this regard is the adoption of adult roles. Thus, among young adults who are
employed or living in a stable relationship there are no significant differences in the persistence of
offending by race.
Overall, these studies suggest that while criminal behavior cuts across race and class lines, the societal
response to these behaviors may significantly influence the course of a potential criminal career.
Decisions regarding the most effective balance of responses by law enforcement, social services, and
community intervention are critical in determining many of these outcomes Race and Class Effects.
A second factor that may explain higher rates of incarceration is the criminal history of an offender.
The more serious a prior criminal record, the greater the likelihood of receiving a prison term for a
new offense. Whether one acquires a criminal record is clearly in part related to the level of criminal
activity, but it is also often a function

The Forgotten Female in the Works of Ernest Hemingway Essay
The Forgotten Female in the Works of Hemingway
Ernest Hemingway has often been accused of misogyny in his treatment of female characters (and,
perhaps, in his treatment of women in his own life). It is not fashionable these days to praise the work
of Ernest Hemingway, says Frederick Busch. His women too often seem to be projections of male
needfulness (1). Many of his stories are seen as prototypical bildungsroman stories stories, usually, of
young men coming of age. There are few, if any, stories in the canon of women coming of age,
however, and Hemingway is not the first to suffer the wrath of feminist critics. But is this wrath
justified?
In his dissertation, Mark G. Newton reviews some of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He argues that . . . Hemingway exhibits uncensored male perceptions of females perhaps as a partial
explanation for why women occupy subjugated positions in American society (180). He concludes:
. . . Hemingway s chief concerns remain consistent. Within this world of selfishness represented in
Hemingway s canon, the lost, lamented for values include faith, hope, and security as well as fertility,
creativity, love, peace, and human brotherhood for maintaining life. . . . Harry s last words, A man
alone ain t got no bloody fucking chance (THAHN 225), imply that togetherness may be the first step
toward healing. Searching within the abyss of nada for meaning, people must first reform and embrace
each other before they can reform and embrace the world. (188)
These are the same echoes, the reaching out for other human contact, that we see in George Willard in
Sherwood Anderson s Winesburg, Ohio. However, in placing women in this almost Christ like
position the saviors of mankind as it were is Hemingway presenting women at all? Or is he presenting
only male fantasies the kind of stereotypical, mythic female figure that women have been condemned
by our society to try to live up to?

Industrial Disasters in Three Mile Island Unit 2 and...
Mistakes happen every day, and you have the privilege to learn from them or not. Some faults can
result to injures or even death. In the power world, incidents occur daily, whether they are big or
small. And it is very important for any power plant to correct their mistakes and prevent them from
happening in the future. As the industrial disasters occur in our world, the world starts to develop
regulations and policies that must be followed before performing a power production plant. This essay
is going to present two major accidents that happened in the world, Three Mile Island Unit 2 and
Chernobyl, and how we can learn from their mistakes. Three Mille Island has two units, Unit one and
Unit two. Unit one, owned and operated by Exelon, built in Susquehanna River, intention of
producing power for the local people. It became operational in September 2, 1974. Three Mile Island
Unit 2, owned by First Energy Company of Akron, became an operational plant in 1978. Babcock and
Wilcox designed both Unit one and two of Three Mile Island, and build to be a pressurized water
reactor. After the accident at Three Mile Island Unit 2, the plant never opened back, even though no
major injuries occurred. Three Mile Island Unit 2, located near Harrisburg, PA, had an automatic
shutdown, even though the plant s efficiency level rated about 100 percent. On March 28, 1979, one of
the reactor pumps, used to supply cooling water, stopped operating, causing an automatic shutdown.

Compare And Contrast Soccer Vs Sports Essay
In the 2014 soccer World Cup finals 18.2 million worldwide viewers tuned in for it. In comparison the
2013 baseball World Series game 6 (when the Red Sox won the series) had 19.2 worldwide viewers.
The World Series overall has had lower television rating compared to the past, but soccer can hardly
be considered the reason for that. Baseball has been voted America s 2nd favorite sport (behind
football) and soccer was voted America s 4th favorite sport. Therefore, baseball is better and more
popular than soccer.

Unfortunately in 1985 football took that over. But still baseball maintained to stay America s most
popular sport for 27 years when soccer was never America s most popular sport. And I think 27 is
better than 0. Also, even if baseball isn t the most popular sport right now, it s still 2 spaces ahead of
soccer.
Baseball is not going to lose it s popularity to soccer anytime soon though. I already explained that I
would rather pay to watch baseball than to watch soccer for free, but another reason I think that is
because soccer is a new sport to America since the MLS was only founded in 1993, so that means
more people have been growing up watching baseball teams from their area instead of soccer teams
and that means their kids are watching baseball and I think it will take a few generations just to shake
that off.
It is hard to find a reason why baseball would be less of a popular sport than soccer, (I bet some
people could come up with some reasons) but I think overall you can t beat most of the facts. Maybe it
s because I play baseball and I like to watch it, or maybe because of all the websites that I looked at

This was not apparent to one of Papa John s competitors, Pizza Hut, who found the claim to be

Similarities Between V For Vendetta And 1984
Overcome, Perish, 1984 and V for Vendetta
Alan Moore and George Orwell s stylistic writing choices and parallels between fascist governments
and the methods used to oppose them in their pieces V for Vendetta and 1984 with the use of rhymes
and television to represent a biased sense of view and salvation left in history, and how the Party uses
their own symbols to repress that salvation.
1984 and V for Vendetta both take place in a Great Britain controlled by a totalitarianistic society with
non conformist characters who take on that society with a unique approach. Winston Smith uses a
private rebellion between himself and Julia as his nonconformity against the Inner Party. In V for
Vendetta, however, V s take on resisting the Norsefire Party is very direct and outspoken to the public.
In their own ways, they both hide their hatred for the Party. Winston himself keeps his meetings with
Julia hush hush in Mr. Charrington s room, while V s identity is never revealed, always wearing a
mask. Symbols play a key role in establishing the stories of Winston and V. 1984 s chant for the
Brotherhood is the Oranges and Lemons English nursery rhyme refers to the bells of churches in
London that extends on by people who matter to Winston; and everyone who betrays him. Mr.
Charrington gives him the first piece, but is revealed to be a part of the Thought Police, Julia, who
betrays him at the end of it all before her mental death, and O Brian, who instead of his savior
becomes his torturer. The Fifth of November is also a rhyme that s based off real events, referencing
Guy Fawkes s failed plan to blow up the English Parliament on November 5th, 1605. Both rhymes are
tied into Great Britain and a passion that varies between the protagonists, providing them with their
only link to the past. Television is also a main symbol for the government s control both the
telescreens in 1984 and the telly in V for Vendetta broadcast only the Party s views and bias. Gordon,
a side character in V for Vendetta, airs his uncensored skit on television as an unintentional way of
oppressing the glorification of Chancellor Sutler, before being killed and dragged away from his own
home. The slogans for both the Inner Party and the Norsefire

Hampton Roads Research Paper
Although short and non eventful, the battle of Hampton roads, during the Civil war, showed the world
the future of warship construction, forever changing Naval Warfare. After visiting the past through the
museums exhibits, I believe in order to understand this battle in its entirety, one must not only look at
the battle itself but the events leading up to it.
The union had a plan to block the confederacy by placing union ships around it. This particular battle
was a small, taking place in Hampton roads, but the size of the battle has no effect on its significance.
The battle is fought between the CSS (confederate states ship) Virginia, formerly called the
Merrimack, and USS (union states ship) monitor. Each of these ships were carefully designed war
weapons, each made of iron. Beforehand war ships were made of wooden material. while ironclads ...

This weapon was quite important throughout the battle. While the turret did in fact turn well, it was
difficult for it to stop turning once in motion. Eventually, the crew let it revolve and started firing on
the fly when the target was in sight. Both the Monitor and the Virginia served as prototypes for future
war ship what would be used for their innovative designs. However, the monitors design continued as
the principal coastal and riverine warship. The clash of armor takes place March 9th, 1862, however it
is essential that I go back a few days to the critical events leading up to the battle. March 6th,1862 was

Oral Candidiasis
Candidiasis, recurrent herpes labialis and recurrent aphthous stomatitis, hairy tongue, erythema
migrans, and lichen planus are the most type of common superficial oral lesions. Diagnosis of such
lesions requires history taking, performing a complete oral examination and knowledge of clinical
characteristics. Oral candidiasis may present as pseudomembranous candidiasis, glossitis, or perleche

2013). Oral candidiasis is common in infants, but in adults it may signify immune deficiency or other

often is a mild condition; however, severe cases may be caused by nutritional deficiencies,
autoimmune disorders, or human immunodeficiency virus infection (Gonsalves et al. 2007). Recurrent
aphtous stomatitis (RAS) is one of the most common oral lesions and is a well known oral disease
with unclear etiopathogenesis for which symptomatic therapy is only available. RAS is characterized
by the appearance of initially necrotic ulcers, with well defined limits surrounded by an erythematous
halo. The lesions are located on the oral mucosa, but are infrequent on the gums. The disease
manifests in the form of outbreaks, with a chronic and self limiting course in most cases RAS is the
most frequent chronic disease of the oral cavity, affecting 5 25% of the population. It is more common
in patients between 10 40 years of age, and predominantly affects women and individuals of higher
socioeconomic levels (Belenguer Guallar et al.

Benefits Of Implementing The Framework Essay
So what about the benefits? What are the tangible reasons for using MCSs? The benefits of
implementing the framework focus largely on different ways operational efficiency is enhanced and
improved. First, implementation of a MCS can reduce risks. The organisation will remove non
conformity by ensuring the actual performance and results relate to the main objectives of the
organisation. The organisation doesn t just set goals and then pursue them blindly, but has systems in
place to ensure the processes are moving the organisation towards the objectives. Since you are aware
of the effectiveness of your systems, you can notice problems quicker. You reduce risk as you notice
problems before they turn into a disaster. Consider you are aiming to boost sales to increase the
organisation s bottom line. Due to having a MCS in place, you ll be alerted if cost of production goes
up and the targets become harder to obtain. In even simpler turns, imagine you are driving down the
road. Now if your car just stops suddenly because it ran out of fuel, you are in trouble and you didn t
have a warning system in place. On the other hand, if you have a system in place monitoring your fuel
levels, you can have an alarm notify you when you are running low on fuel. This allows you to take
corrective action (find a gas station), before you are stuck on the side of the road. The framework also
improves your organisation s ability to plan future actions. The information flows faster under the

Analysis of Neil Postman s Amusing Ourselves to Death
Liking Form and Function It would be easy to dismiss Neil Postman as just a grumpy old man
complaining about what those young whippersnappers are up to while his generation is upholding the
values of civilization, the last vanguard against the Huns. Except for the fact that he was right: Modern
technologies have allowed individuals to withdraw into themselves, to avoid engaging in public
discourse. This imperils democracy, according to Postman, along with a number of other social critics
of the last several decades. But at least as problematic (even as perilous), according to Postman, is the
fact that many modern technologies and the social habits that accompany them, discourage any inner
dialogue as well so that both private and public lives are silenced to any meaningful content. Or at
least this is an arguable point: Whether or not it is true or the extent to which it is true is (arguably
again) dependent on the form of the technology as well as when it appeared in the life of the
individual. Television had a certain magical quality to it when it was first introduced: It had the power
to entrance those who gathered around it in suburban living rooms. This was equally true of the range
of computer based technologies. However, and this is in large measure true of all technologies, as the
virtual world has surrounded us in more and more layers, at least some of us have become more adept
at using technologies like Facebook without ceding our ability to be critical about

In all of the previous rebellions we ve studied women weren t as involved. If women were mentioned,
they were on the sidelines at home or being used as pawns such as in the Pueblo Revolt or Bacon s

angry, starving women who took charge and this switch in gender roles is, for me, monumental.
However, once I researched the bread riot in depth I realized that the rioters main objective was not
food, but finery. The true happenings of the bread riot is entangled in numerous story versions. The
first was that the bread rioters were solely women. In the primary documents I discovered that the

The Persuader
I was once scammed online, by a scammer who I was trying to buy a limited edition virtual card. The
thing is when a victim is scammed the first thing he/she would do is blaming the scammer. However,
whose fault is it, the persuader or the victim? In order for persuaders to be able to win they must gain
people s trust, desire and belief. I believe in processes of gaining those things, persuaders usually lie
about certain things to be able to benefit themselves. Who is it to blame if I trusted a doctor who said
he/she could cure my cancer from faith healing and prayers and I die? In this case it s the persuader s
fault because he/she is faking and lying in order to steal from someone. I think it is the

Of course it is also the victim s fault for being naïve and credible. However, I think if you are conned
into giving someone $3000 is a crime freely. For example, some people fake as doctors to scam
people. They might say something like I could cure your mother s breasts cancer by prayer of course it
sounds stupid, but with the desire of the victim, they are likely to be less aware and more credible. The
responsibility should be the person who didn t deliver his/her promises. In this case, I believe the
persuader is the one responsibility for this case because he is faking/lying who he is and what he
promises by faking his identity and could be ruining someone life, happiness and hope. However, I
also think the victim should educate themselves or think carefully before trusting. Con artists who
prey and victimize others should undoubtedly be punished, but we should encourage people to educate
themselves so as to make these crimes. On the other hand salesman who successfully convinces you
into buying something is a very similar case, however I think they are less of a crime, because they are
not completely faking it, at least they are promising the possible outcome like the protein powder. In
this case I think the fault should be more towards the victims because I believe they should know that
some salesmen don t even know their products so they lie and exaggerate about their products. Also,
they are playing with your brain and your desire. Most salesmen only care about money, which is why
they are trying to persuade you. I think victims should educate themselves more because if their
products is really good, they wouldn t even need to come to you and persuade to sell. In cases where
both victims and persuaders are wrong is something like a teacher offers his/her students bribery, but
the teacher keep asking for more money, in this case I

Importance Of A Healthy Lifestyle Essay
A healthy lifestyle can be defined as a certain way of living that normally lowers the possibility of an
individual falling sick or even dying early. It is not possible to prevent a large proportion of deaths
especially those from the heart and lungs but at the same time it is possible to avoid them. A lifestyle
that is healthy makes one very fit, strong as well as reduces the risks of certain diseases. A healthy
lifestyle is based on the various choices that we normally make in our day to day lives. The
foundations to a healthy lifestyle are based on many things but the most crucial all come down to one
concept, maintaining a healthy body weight. Eating healthy is one of the ways that can make one die
healthy; we find that it is therefore very important to observe what we eat. This is because our body
systems depend on the continuous supply of nutrients that we give to our bodies . The nutrients are
mainly from the food we eat and they include vitamins, carbohydrates, minerals and fats. Due to these,
we need to take different types of food so that we can ensure that our bodies get all the relevant
nutrients. Our diet should contain vegetables, whole grain as well as fruits We find that our society is
changing so much especially when it comes to the kinds of food we eat. Most of the people do not
know how to prepare various types of food and hence they end up eating processed foods which are
not very healthy and not eating a lot of fresh vegetables and fruits. This is

Efficient Market Hypothesis
Introduction
The efficient markets hypothesis (EMH) is a dominant financial markets theory developed by Michael
Jensen, a graduate of the University of Chicago and one of the creators of the efficient markets
hypothesis, stated that, there is no other proposition in economics which has more solid empirical
evidence supporting it than the Efficient Markets Hypothesis [Jensen, 1978, 96]. This paper analyzes
whether it is possible to measure if markets are efficient in the strong form of EMH. A generation ago,
the efficient market hypothesis was widely accepted by academic financial economists; for example,
Eugene Fama s (1970) influential survey article, Efficient Capital Markets. It was generally believed
that securities markets were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This implies that it is impossible to beat the market. Many studies shed light on whether investment
advisers and mutual funds (some of which charge steep sales commissions to people who purchase
them) beat the market. One common test that has been performed is to take buy and sell
recommendations from a group of advisers or mutual funds and compare the performance of the
resulting selection of stocks with the market as a whole. Sometimes the advisers choices have even
been compared to a group of stocks chosen by throwing darts at a copy of the financial page of the
newspaper tacked to a dartboard. The Wall Street Journal, for example, used to have a regular feature
called Investment Dartboard that compared how well stocks picked by investment advisers did relative
to stocks picked by throwing darts. Did the advisers win? To their embarrassment, the dartboard beat
them as often as they beat the dartboard. Furthermore, even when the comparison included only
advisers who had been successful in the past in predicting the stock market, the advisers still didn t
regularly beat the dartboard. Consistent with the efficient market hypothesis, mutual funds also do not
beat the market. Not only do mutual funds not outperform the market on average, but when they are
separated into groups according to whether they had the highest or lowest profits in a chosen period,

The Planets And The Celestial Bodies Of Astrology
The Planets (Grammar Check)
Ascertaining the defining characteristics associated with the celestial bodies of astrology will establish
the novice in the fundamentals of astrology, and enhance the comprehension of adept astrologers.
After all, as planets orbit established positions, the axis of astrology encompasses the idiosyncrasies of
the planets. Additionally, a familiarization of Greek and Roman deities benefits the comprehension of
the various planetary personalities.
The Inner Planets
The moon and the five planets closest to the Sun are relatively quick, moving through an astrological
sign in less than a year. Thus, the combination of their positions and their effects vary significantly
among individuals.
The Sun
The elegant brilliance of the Sun generates life, establishes purpose, and provides direction. Notably,
this majestic orb impressively blazes as the kingpin of the solar system bestowing ego, pride, passion,
arrogance, and strength. Along with these attributes, the Sun controls a person s desire for growth and
expansion. Ultimately, the Sun determines the scaffolding of an individual s personality and destiny.
The Moon
The synchronicity of the moon is phenomenal: instinctively maintaining its composure while
continually rotating during orbit. Habitually, the moon reveals its passively tranquil countenance to the
Earth while simultaneously concealing a secretive side. Comparatively, the nature of this motion

Differences Between Power And Authority
Question 1: Distinguish between power and authority. Do you believe the foundation of criminal
justice organizations is power or authority? Why? Give examples in everyday criminal justice life that
reflect the differences among these concepts.
Answer: According to Stojkovic, Kalinich, and Klofas (2015), power can be defined as A construct
that underscores that importance of how compliance among subordinates is achieved (p. 288). Power
can be at both a person and organizational level and there are five forms, including coercive power,
reward power, legitimate power, referent power, and expert power (Stojkovic, Kalinich, Klofas, 2015).
In contrast, authority is demoting the compliance with particular directives essential for achieving a
common or shared goal (Stojkovic, Kalinich, Klofas, 2015, p. 290). The three forms of author include,
traditional authority, charismatic authority, and legal authority (Stojkovic, Kalinich, Klofas, 2015).
Power can become authority over time and authority is useful for when individuals must be supervised
within an organization (Stojkovic, Kalinich, Klofas, 2015). I believe the foundation of criminal justice
organizations is authority because everyone is trying to attain the same goal and be successful
(Stojkovic, Kalinich, Klofas, 2015). If power is distributed among too many employees, then that
could lead to role conflict (Stojkovic, Kalinich, Klofas, 2015). It is important to have supervisors with
authority over

Masculinity in Men Should Weep by Ena Lamont Stewart and Perfect Days by Liz Lochead
Both plays portray men under a negative light. In Men Should Weep men are the dominant sex and are
seen socially of far greater importance. Whereas in Perfect days men are easily manipulated and tend
to be controlled by the contents of their trousers.
Men Should Weep is a play which examines how the family unit crumbles under the pressure of
poverty. John the father of the family is the main male figure throughout the play. His wife Maggie
does everything for him and their family. However although there is always a lot to be done John
manages not to do anything to help as he would never want to damage his alter ego. Not only ... Show

Mrs Bone prefers to keep it quite about what goes on like a lot of other women. It is all about men
feeling that they have power over women. Not only do men expect everything to be done for them but
they also expect that everything is for them. A prime example of this is when
Lily brings the kids some food and John expects it to be for him.
it s no for you! It s far Bertie and the ither weans, ye pig heided fool! From this you can tell that Lily
doesn t like John due to the fact that he doesn t work or help out around the house. However John
doesn t like Lily as she provides for his family and he looks upon himself as the provider, even though
he doesn t do anything for his family. Throughout the play John manages to pick out quite a few of his
own faults without even realising what he is doing.
a mans nae right to bring weans intae the world if he canne provide for them
Nonetheless this is exactly what he has done, he has six children, no form of income and he has no
notion in helping around the house.
As the play progresses the reader begins to realise that the men are a far weaker and stupider sex than
the women, also that the women are far stronger and intelligent.
They canna stawn up tae things like a women, they loose their heids and start shouting
Men are portrayed to have little control over themselves and their actions. Unlike the women who are

Mary Barton By Elizabeth Gaskell Analysis
Ever hear the phrase, you have to read in between the lines? Authors commonly include broad
metaphors in their works in order for each reader to have their own interpretations of the topic. In this
passage, Mary Barton, written by Elizabeth Gaskell, George Wilson, a worker, goes to the house of
Mr. Carson, who is the owner of the mill where he is employed. He makes this trip to request help for
another worker who is dying of typhus. Gaskell was able to show a clear depiction of social
differences between a town that is heading toward poverty and a wealthy family living in opulence,
allowing her reader to understand the clear message she was writing. Because of Gaskell s close
selection of detail, shiftment of point of view, and inclusion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In the conversation between Thomas and Wilson, one can see that Thomas speaks less properly
compared to the individual he is interacting with. The dialogue reveals that Thomas has an accent with
words such as, mysel instead of myself th instead of the and ha instead of have. A widespread belief is
that the lack of money is equivalent to the lack of an education, which is displayed to be true within
this section of the passage. The stereotypical way to show others one has money is to speak like it,
Thomas obviously demonstrates that he was not taught this manner. Also in this conversation, Wilson
had not said a word. Readers are lead to believe this was in his perspective, but in actuality his silence
shows it was third person. Wilson and Thomas represent those who grew up in poverty, they either are
taught the English language inaccurately or they are taught to be quiet. The difference between social
classes will always stay as a dominant universal theme within novels, stories, and plays. In Mary
Barton, the contrasted is depicted through her implied metaphors and detailed illustrations. Her
characters, the Carson s, exhibit the misguided acceptance that those in poverty are simple to abandon
and easy to replace. Elizabeth Gaskell is able to compare and contrast the groups of people with her
flawless diction,

The Space And Space Exploration
In the midst of presidential race between many candidates, Ted Cruz was one that stood out because of
his many plans and policies on space exploration. Ted Cruz has spoken of what he plans on doing if he
were to become president. He plans on developing a rocket and capsule that can take astronauts clear
into Mars early as 2030. He adds that this is a crucial part in space exploration and developing NASA
in to full capacity. The project which will cost billions of dollars will further advance the United States
into the superior space program over any other country in the world. While many of Cruz s opponents
think that spending money on space exploration is an extreme waste of valuable cash, Cruz still
defends his ideas and plans on turning this country into the space super power. Cruz seems to care a
lot about space exploration and plans on making that a huge part of his run at presidency.
The space war so to speak between the United States and Russia is one that will continue through the
ages and one that Cruz has repeatedly said he will put a stop to. He insists that we can get astronauts
to the space station without the help of our rival Russia. As we all know The U.S. has been reliant on
Russia for a long time including back in 2011 when they helped shuttle astronauts to the orbiting lab.
Cruz who represents the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas believes that he is the best candidate
for those astronomy aficionados. Florida senator Bill Nelson deeply agrees

Montage Of A Dream Deferred By Langston Hughes
Many of the poems within Montage of a Dream Deferred by Langston Hughes contain great meaning
as well as emotion embedded within them. Whether they are 3 lines or 20 lines long, vivid images and
explanations follow. The main focus of the series of poems are centralized on African Americans
living in Harlem in the 20 s and on and their opposition from the rest. The motif in nearly all poems
express discrimination, daily activities, and African American s struggle for equality. Out of all poems,
certain ones such as Theme for English B , Ballad of the Landlord , and Harlem #2 stood out. These
short poems have a similar correlation carrying the same meaning and or idea.
In the poem Theme for English B , a black student is asked to ... Show more content on

He concludes with As I learn from you, I guess you learn from me although you re older and white
and somewhat more free. This is my page for English B. The Black student realizes that not only does
the teacher have the ability to teach, but even the students can teach the teacher something they never
knew regardless if he/she is older, white, and more free than he is. Langston Hughes states that all
Americans are shaped and defined differently and there is no specific way to be an American.
Moving on to the second poem; Ballad of the Landlord , we see back and forth conversations between
a white landlord and his unhappy black tenant. The black tenant tries explaining the poor conditions of
his apartment. Flaws such as broken steps, and the leaking roof are examples of imagery. The black
tenant tells his landlord that he won t be able to talk after he lands his fists on him. Without a further
ado, the white tenant calls the police and the black tenant instantly gets arrest and sentenced to 90 days
in county jail with no bail. Hughes expresses a theme of injustice for the black race in comparison to
how the white race is favored and carry unfair power in society. It is easily said that the condition of
the apartment explains the quality of a black person s justice: broken.
Lastly, in the poem Harlem #2 , the speaker right off the bat tosses many rhetorical questions that the
reader can ponder on. What happens to a dream deferred? Does it dry up like a raisin in

Dystopia The Giver
Dystopia: an imagined place or state in which everything is unpleasant or bad, typically a totalitarian
or environmentally degraded one, thanks Google. If our society was a dystopian society which would
slowly tremble how would the society be perfect? No color, no starvation, no war, and no racial
profiling; if that would make the perfect society then that would make the perfect downfall to the
society. Both dystopian and modern societies have their flaws considering the fact that dystopia means
bad utopia while utopia means not a place . In Lois Lowry s The Giver, the dystopian novel conveys
the attempt at the perfect society. The protagonist Jonas lives in one of the many dystopian
communities, which in this world there are many communities,

How Anglo American s Stakeholders Influence Carroll s...
Anglo American hired Cynthia Carroll as chief executive officer in hopes that she would improve the
overall performance of the company. Failing to meet their expectations would almost guarantee her
time at the company would be short lived. As CEO she must juggle the interests of her stakeholders
and make decisions that benefit the company. It can prove to be a difficult task as certain stakeholders
hold more power and have more influence when it comes to making these decisions. In this paper I
will be using stakeholder theory to discuss how Anglo American s stakeholders influence Carroll s
decision. Carroll is well aware of the dangers her employees face, however she must decide whether it
is in her best interest to increase safety or not. While increasing safety measures may make the
company look better, it will come at great costs. Although Cynthia Carroll is facing some opposition
from it s the South African government and its employees, when taking in the interests of all the
company s stakeholders it is clear that she must keep the mines up and running without taking more
safety precautions. Maintaining a good relationship between business and government is important to
the success every company. In this case, the South African government is important to think about
because they alter how Anglo American deals with its employees, however they do not have enough
power to sway the decision in their favor. The role of government is to Promote economic
development and

Dr. Frankl s The Existential Crisis
Dr. Viktor Frankl experienced an extreme traumatic event that most of us cannot even dream of
happening. Dr. Frankl was a victim of the Nazi Concentration Camps for years and was continuously
tortured mentally, physically, and emotionally. From having little to no food to having barely any
clothes to wear during the wintertime, Dr. Frankl survived what the world witness as the most horrific
genocide it had and has ever seen. One can understand how it would be so easy for someone to lose
sight of what the meaning of life is to them and to give up on it completely. When surrounded by
constant death and suffering, what meaning is left when a person is condemned to death? When
discussing existentialism, there are a few different ways that the term can be defined. Frankl believed
that existentialism could be defined as existence itself, as what existence means, and it can also be
defined as struggling to find meaning in one s personal existance (Frankl, 1959). An existential crisis
occurs when someone questions the meaning of his or her life. No matter where a person is in life,
there is always a chance of experiencing an existential crisis, or crisis or meaning, when an individual
is faced with the concept of death (Robbins, Chatterjee, Canda, 2012). Another way that a person can
experience existential crises is when they are challenged to establish a sense of self and what they
believe the meaning of their life is (Robbins, Chatterjee, Canda, 2012). In his book Man s

Essay On The Castle
I had never been in the third tier before. It was a place that I did not belong with my coarse shirts and
riding pants, even when they were not dirt covered. It was not just the clothes, there was no illusion I
could put on myself that would make me fit in. There was something about the way they walked that
spoke of wealth and sophistication. The gate to the fourth tier was even more guarded, two guards on
each side in full battle gear. The sound of footsteps drew up eyes upward to see four more guards
walking along the top of the wall, bows in hand. The increased security closer to the castle made
sense, but the fact that the lower tiers that had a higher population had less protection seemed rather
callous. I knew Terrans cared nothing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The front of the castle past the moot was a lot of green space and cobble stones, but that was all I
could make out in the weak light. I was too panicked to take in details anyway. Instead of being taken
toward the large gate in front of me, I was directed along the wall. There was a small wooden door set
into the base of a drum tower in the wall. A guard saluted and unlocked the heavy wooden door. Kane
let go of me and disappeared through it. I turned to look for an exit, but Captain Saban was crowding
me to go down. I could not move. I took a few deep breaths, but they all got caught in my throat.
Captain Saban nudged me. I took a step forward. It was pitch black inside. I put my hand out to feel
the wall or anything and brushed against Kane. You ll get used to it in a moment. Kane took my hand
and placed it on his shoulder before he started downward. I blinked a few times to try and see my
surroundings, but it was useless. Finally, I unfocused my eyes and gathered the stray light beams from
a torch shining somewhere in the distance. There was not much to see, just stone walls streaked with
grime and water. After what seemed like ages of the downward spiral, in which I thought we might
walk into the center of the Earth where Terran held court, the ground leveled out. We entered a long
corridor, torches blazing at different intervals that made me wince at the sudden brightness and hay
littering the floor. Another guard, this

Reflective Essay On The Father Of God
As tears fell from my eyes and onto the light blue carpet, I heard words I never thought I would hear.
One Sunday about three years ago, our assistant pastor preached a message, and after that, he
announced that our pastor was stepping down. Because it was such a close knit church, we quickly
learned that our pastor had committed adultery with one of my best friends mother. My family was
extremely upset and the whole church was distraught when we heard the news. I had no idea what to
think. This man, whom I trusted, had baptized me and answered any questions I had. My family
adored our pastor because he was such a great teacher of the Bible. I could not fathom how my pastor,
a man of God, could be capable of a sin like this. After church that day, my family went out to eat. At
the restaurant, my father mentioned that he wanted to try out a different church. This idea my father
posed to my family was so foreign to me. This church family was all I had ever known since I was
four years old. I continuously asked God: after eleven years, why did my family have to be uprooted. I
could not understand how something like this could happen. The Bible says in Romans 8:28 that all
things work together for the good of those who love God, but I did not understand how anything good
could possibly come from my situation. My brother and my father were excited to visit new churches,
but my feelings were the opposite. Despite my feelings, I decided I was going to be optimistic and

Virtual Reality Importance
Why is Virtual Reality important? Virtual Reality can positive and negative effect on people. The
definition of Virtual Reality is An artificial environment which is experienced through sensory stimuli
(such as sights and sounds) provided by a computer and in which one s actions partially determine
what happens in the environment (www.Merriam Webster.com). Virtual reality is probably one of the
newest and most advanced way to have a good time with friends and family. Virtual Reality can be
used so much more than it is being used today, one day it will control what we do daily. Personally, I
have only used a Virtual Reality headset two times. Although I am not very experienced with Virtual
Reality, I have had tons of fun with them and they had led to great times with friends. I recently
attended a 4 H camp where they had a couple of Virtual reality headsets, they put us in the situation of
a drunk driver hitting head on with a driver to show us the possible dangers of drinking and driving. I
thought that was one way they could further develop and use this technology. One of the more
interesting activities I have done with a Virtual Reality headset besides playing games was exploring
the universe and all the it holds. Sure it sounds boring, but these headsets can actually be used for
learning which can make a huge difference in schools. This new technology could help with kids of all
ages to learn new ways to see in detail what their teacher is trying to explain, and to

Setting The Scene From Block Grant Based Funding
Setting the scene
Claire McCartney, research adviser at the CIPD and author of the report, comments: There seems to be
a real lack of awareness amongst senior managers, who rate the trust levels much stronger than more
junior employees. It seems they either have a tendency to view things through rose tinted glasses, or
are out of touch with how employees nearer the coalface are feeling. If senior leaders are in denial or
burying their heads in the sand, there is a danger that a them and us mentality will emerge and change
will be very difficult to achieve.
, and a transition from block grant based funding to student loan based funding of teaching has taken
place.
The past five years have been a time of significant fast paced change for Higher Education Institutions
(HEIs), with the higher education market being opened to new providers, the removal of the Student
Number Control cap and changes in student funding HEIs have needed to remain agile and adaptable.
(HEFCE, 2015)
With International students making a huge contribution to universities and the UK including boosting
the UK economy, HEIs are now required to compete in ever more challenging global markets
(HEFCE BIS grant letter 2015). HEIs recent successes have been and will continue to be vital to the
UKs future economic prospects as the country enters a period of growth. (HEFCE s annual grant letter

  • 2. Disney Misogyny In Disney films, there is a lot of misogyny amongst female main characters. Many people in our society have noticed a significant difference in the speaking roles between male and female characters that Disney created, as men had way more lines than the women. Because these movies were mostly created in the mid late 1900 s, this was the time that there was plenty of prejudice against females. Now, in the year 2017, females are getting a little more equality than before to the point where many females now have jobs that were only for males in the 1900 s. Most Disney movies for that matter involve some sort of misogyny, even the ones that recently came out such as Brave and Frozen . Examples of various levels of misogyny can be noticed in Disney films such as Ariel in The Little Mermaid (1989), directed by Ron Clements and John Musker. • 3. Analysis Of El Greco Made Me At first while looking at the artworks it is actually not possible to figure out that the artist himself might be representing him in his piece. But after reading the notes and knowing that the artist is also a part in the image does enhances the two works of art. For the first image of The Burial of Count Orgaz by El Greco, he did not include his portrait in the artwork, Instead, he included an image of his son. On his son s handkerchief, he wrote, El Greco made me . That indicates how El Greco will live on through this painting and through his son. But he is not done here yet, placed against the saint is one of the El Greco s landscape paintings. Such portraits do enhance the artwork a lot. In the second image of Las Menians by Velazquez is different from the previous one as the artist is prominently found in this artwork. Left side of the image is dominated by the back of the artists and right side by the figures. The figures including young princess, the king, and the Queen. The princess is all dressed up for her portrait session with Velazquez. However, in the close up picture, I can see the artist seems very bored by being there. As if he just wants to finish the portrait and leave. He has this unpleasant face that according to me does enhance the artwork and makes in more interesting. He is like the focal point of the piece to set the artwork unique beside others. One way is in El Greco s artwork, how he includes the image of his son instead of him to refer himself ... • 5. Heart Of Darkness By Joseph Conrads In Joseph Conrads work, Heart of Darkness, many characters fall victim to insanity caused by the wild environment. However, there are a select few who managed to leave the jungle unscathed after their encounter with the foreign landscape and people. Among these few include the chief accountant of the Outer Station, the foreman of mechanics, the manager of the Central Station, and Marlow. It was not by chance that these men are able to retain their sanity. Each one of these individuals had an occupation, background, lifestyle, or intellect that worked in their favor throughout their stay in the Congo. One of the first men introduced to Marlow upon his arrival to the Outer Station is the company s chief accountant. Not only is he impeccably dressed, but he is devoted entirely to his paperwork. Marlow immediately observes, He was devoted to his books, which were in apple pie order (Conrad 46). The accountant s drive and nature of work are what occupy his time and keep him from losing his mind amidst the dark and menacing jungle. His stationary and indoor occupation prevent him from getting lost mentally and physically in the horrors of the jungle. His lack of exposure to the environment allows him to maintain his civility, which can be observed through his polished appearance and organized work. Consumed by his work, the accountant is distracted from the horrors happening around him, remaining blissfully ignorant amongst his papers. Similarly, the foreman of mechanics ... The Position of Islamic Lawin Malaysia CHAPTER FOUR: THE POSITION OF ISLAMIC LAW IN MALAYSIA 4.1 Introduction It has been argued, that if colonisation had not been responsible for the introduction and application of English law, Islamic law would have developed to become the law of the land. Islamic law, coupled with the customary law of the various races, indeed represent the indigenous sources or basic foundation upon which the eventual growth of a legal system could have been founded.1 However, the grant of the Charters of Justice 1826 to the Straits Settlements, and the eventual application of English law both through the judicial process and through legislation in the Malay States had effectively displaced Islamic law from its premier position. • 7. The Comics As New Form Of Communication Reenvisioning Comics as New Form of Communication It is a truth universally acknowledged that as man has evolved into a more complex being, the appearance of pictures has gradually been replaced by words. As children mature, they are often encouraged to read lengthy novels as opposed to comics, which are deemed to be childish and simple. However, this denies them the potential that comics can offer in terms of communication and creativity. In his graphic essay, Show and Tell, comic artist Scott McCloud encourages the youth to utilize the benefits comics offer as a new form of expression. By presenting examples of how words and pictures can be harmoniously used and by identifying elements of comics that can enhance communication, McCloud is able to successfully argue for the importance of comics as new mediums for literature and creative expression. In addition, Hillary Chute s essay, Comics as Literature? Reading Graphic Narrative, further elaborates on the unique characteristics of comics that can amplify expression, such as manipulating temporality. Furthermore, Why Teach with Comics by Jennifer Haines illustrates how comics can be used to widen the potential audience of writer and how they can improve the way people learn. In modern society, comics are viewed as lowbrow, simple constructions of words and images, which are primarily used for recreation. Although some progress has been made in familiarizing ... Had I not fulfilled those instructions, you would not have turned the paper in and received this additional feedback from your instructor. This additional feedback warrants an additional assignment. You should place another order for more pages. Thanks. True Lies One can argue that the veracity of autobiographies, by nature, is extremely deceptive. The vast majority of the facts contained within them are colored, quite naturally, by the perceptions and interpretations of the author. The tendency to take liberty with the truth is often exacerbated when the author of such works has an affinity (or perhaps gift) for the written language, such as is the case with both Ernest Hemingway and Gertrude Stein, who produced fairly unconventional autobiographical works entitled A Moveable Feast and The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas, respectively. The proclivity to glorify one s own actions and deeds in effect to make oneself appear cool is often an irresistible temptation, especially for those writing about people (including themselves) whom posterity admires, such as the lost generation of expatriate American writers living in Paris in the early part of the 20th century. That figure should have been disturbing since it was substantially higher than the black share of the national population. But that proportion has now increased; still more dramatically, to the point where blacks represent half of all prison admissions. This development would seem to be rather odd considering the changes that have taken place in American society over the past half century. While the self reported involvement of adolescent males represents a 3:2 black/white differential, the arrest ratio is 4:1. While there are no dramatic differences in the degree to which blacks and whites become involved in offending at some point, blacks are nearly twice as likely to continue offending into their twenties. The key variable in this regard is the adoption of adult roles. Thus, among young adults who are employed or living in a stable relationship there are no significant differences in the persistence of offending by race. Overall, these studies suggest that while criminal behavior cuts across race and class lines, the societal response to these behaviors may significantly influence the course of a potential criminal career. Similarities Between V For Vendetta And 1984 Overcome, Perish, 1984 and V for Vendetta Alan Moore and George Orwell s stylistic writing choices and parallels between fascist governments and the methods used to oppose them in their pieces V for Vendetta and 1984 with the use of rhymes and television to represent a biased sense of view and salvation left in history, and how the Party uses their own symbols to repress that salvation. 1984 and V for Vendetta both take place in a Great Britain controlled by a totalitarianistic society with non conformist characters who take on that society with a unique approach. Winston Smith uses a private rebellion between himself and Julia as his nonconformity against the Inner Party. In V for Vendetta, however, V s take on resisting the Norsefire Party is very direct and outspoken to the public. In their own ways, they both hide their hatred for the Party. Winston himself keeps his meetings with Julia hush hush in Mr. Charrington s room, while V s identity is never revealed, always wearing a mask. Symbols play a key role in establishing the stories of Winston and V. 1984 s chant for the Brotherhood is the Oranges and Lemons English nursery rhyme refers to the bells of churches in London that extends on by people who matter to Winston; and everyone who betrays him. Mr. Charrington gives him the first piece, but is revealed to be a part of the Thought Police, Julia, who betrays him at the end of it all before her mental death, and O Brian, who instead of his savior becomes his torturer. The Fifth of November is also a rhyme that s based off real events, referencing Guy Fawkes s failed plan to blow up the English Parliament on November 5th, 1605. Hampton Roads Research Paper Although short and non eventful, the battle of Hampton roads, during the Civil war, showed the world the future of warship construction, forever changing Naval Warfare. After visiting the past through the museums exhibits, I believe in order to understand this battle in its entirety, one must not only look at the battle itself but the events leading up to it. The union had a plan to block the confederacy by placing union ships around it. This particular battle was a small, taking place in Hampton roads, but the size of the battle has no effect on its significance. The battle is fought between the CSS (confederate states ship) Virginia, formerly called the Merrimack, and USS (union states ship) monitor. Each of these ships were carefully designed war weapons, each made of iron. Beforehand war ships were made of wooden material. while ironclads ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 26. Benefits Of Implementing The Framework Essay So what about the benefits? What are the tangible reasons for using MCSs? The benefits of implementing the framework focus largely on different ways operational efficiency is enhanced and improved. First, implementation of a MCS can reduce risks. The organisation will remove non conformity by ensuring the actual performance and results relate to the main objectives of the organisation. The organisation doesn t just set goals and then pursue them blindly, but has systems in place to ensure the processes are moving the organisation towards the objectives. Since you are aware of the effectiveness of your systems, you can notice problems quicker. You reduce risk as you notice problems before they turn into a disaster. Consider you are aiming to boost sales to increase the organisation s bottom line. Due to having a MCS in place, you ll be alerted if cost of production goes up and the targets become harder to obtain. In even simpler turns, imagine you are driving down the road. Now if your car just stops suddenly because it ran out of fuel, you are in trouble and you didn t have a warning system in place. On the other hand, if you have a system in place monitoring your fuel levels, you can have an alarm notify you when you are running low on fuel. This allows you to take corrective action (find a gas station), before you are stuck on the side of the road. The framework also improves your organisation s ability to plan future actions. Analysis of Neil Postman s Amusing Ourselves to Death Liking Form and Function It would be easy to dismiss Neil Postman as just a grumpy old man complaining about what those young whippersnappers are up to while his generation is upholding the values of civilization, the last vanguard against the Huns. Except for the fact that he was right: Modern technologies have allowed individuals to withdraw into themselves, to avoid engaging in public discourse. This imperils democracy, according to Postman, along with a number of other social critics of the last several decades. But at least as problematic (even as perilous), according to Postman, is the fact that many modern technologies and the social habits that accompany them, discourage any inner dialogue as well so that both private and public lives are silenced to any meaningful content. Or at least this is an arguable point: Whether or not it is true or the extent to which it is true is (arguably again) dependent on the form of the technology as well as when it appeared in the life of the individual. Television had a certain magical quality to it when it was first introduced: It had the power to entrance those who gathered around it in suburban living rooms. This was equally true of the range of computer based technologies. However, and this is in large measure true of all technologies, as the virtual world has surrounded us in more and more layers, at least some of us have become more adept at using technologies like Facebook without ceding our ability to be critical about ... Con artists who prey and victimize others should undoubtedly be punished, but we should encourage people to educate themselves so as to make these crimes. • 41. Differences Between Power And Authority Question 1: Distinguish between power and authority. Do you believe the foundation of criminal justice organizations is power or authority? Why? Give examples in everyday criminal justice life that reflect the differences among these concepts. Answer: According to Stojkovic, Kalinich, and Klofas (2015), power can be defined as A construct that underscores that importance of how compliance among subordinates is achieved (p. 288). Power can be at both a person and organizational level and there are five forms, including coercive power, reward power, legitimate power, referent power, and expert power (Stojkovic, Kalinich, Klofas, 2015). In contrast, authority is demoting the compliance with particular directives essential for achieving a common or shared goal (Stojkovic, Kalinich, Klofas, 2015, p. 290). The three forms of author include, traditional authority, charismatic authority, and legal authority (Stojkovic, Kalinich, Klofas, 2015). Power can become authority over time and authority is useful for when individuals must be supervised within an organization (Stojkovic, Kalinich, Klofas, 2015). I believe the foundation of criminal justice organizations is authority because everyone is trying to attain the same goal and be successful (Stojkovic, Kalinich, Klofas, 2015). If power is distributed among too many employees, then that could lead to role conflict (Stojkovic, Kalinich, Klofas, 2015). It is important to have supervisors with authority over ... In the conversation between Thomas and Wilson, one can see that Thomas speaks less properly compared to the individual he is interacting with. The dialogue reveals that Thomas has an accent with words such as, mysel instead of myself th instead of the and ha instead of have. A widespread belief is that the lack of money is equivalent to the lack of an education, which is displayed to be true within this section of the passage. The stereotypical way to show others one has money is to speak like it, Thomas obviously demonstrates that he was not taught this manner. Also in this conversation, Wilson had not said a word. Readers are lead to believe this was in his perspective, but in actuality his silence shows it was third person. Wilson and Thomas represent those who grew up in poverty, they either are taught the English language inaccurately or they are taught to be quiet. The difference between social classes will always stay as a dominant universal theme within novels, stories, and plays. In Mary Barton, the contrasted is depicted through her implied metaphors and detailed illustrations. Her characters, the Carson s, exhibit the misguided acceptance that those in poverty are simple to abandon and easy to replace. Elizabeth Gaskell is able to compare and contrast the groups of people with her flawless diction, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Space And Space Exploration In the midst of presidential race between many candidates, Ted Cruz was one that stood out because of his many plans and policies on space exploration. Ted Cruz has spoken of what he plans on doing if he were to become president. He plans on developing a rocket and capsule that can take astronauts clear into Mars early as 2030. He adds that this is a crucial part in space exploration and developing NASA in to full capacity. The project which will cost billions of dollars will further advance the United States into the superior space program over any other country in the world. While many of Cruz s opponents think that spending money on space exploration is an extreme waste of valuable cash, Cruz still defends his ideas and plans on turning this country into the space super power. Cruz seems to care a lot about space exploration and plans on making that a huge part of his run at presidency. The space war so to speak between the United States and Russia is one that will continue through the ages and one that Cruz has repeatedly said he will put a stop to. He insists that we can get astronauts to the space station without the help of our rival Russia. As we all know The U.S. has been reliant on Russia for a long time including back in 2011 when they helped shuttle astronauts to the orbiting lab. Cruz who represents the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas believes that he is the best candidate for those astronomy aficionados. Florida senator Bill Nelson deeply agrees ... • 45. Montage Of A Dream Deferred By Langston Hughes Many of the poems within Montage of a Dream Deferred by Langston Hughes contain great meaning as well as emotion embedded within them. Whether they are 3 lines or 20 lines long, vivid images and explanations follow. The main focus of the series of poems are centralized on African Americans living in Harlem in the 20 s and on and their opposition from the rest. The motif in nearly all poems express discrimination, daily activities, and African American s struggle for equality. Out of all poems, certain ones such as Theme for English B , Ballad of the Landlord , and Harlem #2 stood out. These short poems have a similar correlation carrying the same meaning and or idea. In the poem Theme for English B , a black student is asked to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He concludes with As I learn from you, I guess you learn from me although you re older and white and somewhat more free. This is my page for English B. The Black student realizes that not only does the teacher have the ability to teach, but even the students can teach the teacher something they never knew regardless if he/she is older, white, and more free than he is. Langston Hughes states that all Americans are shaped and defined differently and there is no specific way to be an American. Moving on to the second poem; Ballad of the Landlord , we see back and forth conversations between a white landlord and his unhappy black tenant. The black tenant tries explaining the poor conditions of his apartment. Flaws such as broken steps, and the leaking roof are examples of imagery. The black tenant tells his landlord that he won t be able to talk after he lands his fists on him. Without a further ado, the white tenant calls the police and the black tenant instantly gets arrest and sentenced to 90 days in county jail with no bail. Hughes expresses a theme of injustice for the black race in comparison to how the white race is favored and carry unfair power in society. It is easily said that the condition of the apartment explains the quality of a black person s justice: broken. Lastly, in the poem Harlem #2 , the speaker right off the bat tosses many rhetorical questions that the reader can ponder on. What happens to a dream deferred? Does it dry up like a raisin in ... • 46. Dystopia The Giver Dystopia: an imagined place or state in which everything is unpleasant or bad, typically a totalitarian or environmentally degraded one, thanks Google. If our society was a dystopian society which would slowly tremble how would the society be perfect? No color, no starvation, no war, and no racial profiling; if that would make the perfect society then that would make the perfect downfall to the society. Both dystopian and modern societies have their flaws considering the fact that dystopia means bad utopia while utopia means not a place . In Lois Lowry s The Giver, the dystopian novel conveys the attempt at the perfect society. • 47. How Anglo American s Stakeholders Influence Carroll s... Anglo American hired Cynthia Carroll as chief executive officer in hopes that she would improve the overall performance of the company. Failing to meet their expectations would almost guarantee her time at the company would be short lived. As CEO she must juggle the interests of her stakeholders and make decisions that benefit the company. It can prove to be a difficult task as certain stakeholders hold more power and have more influence when it comes to making these decisions. In this paper I will be using stakeholder theory to discuss how Anglo American s stakeholders influence Carroll s decision. Carroll is well aware of the dangers her employees face, however she must decide whether it is in her best interest to increase safety or not. While increasing safety measures may make the company look better, it will come at great costs. Although Cynthia Carroll is facing some opposition from it s the South African government and its employees, when taking in the interests of all the company s stakeholders it is clear that she must keep the mines up and running without taking more safety precautions. Maintaining a good relationship between business and government is important to the success every company. In this case, the South African government is important to think about because they alter how Anglo American deals with its employees, however they do not have enough power to sway the decision in their favor. The role of government is to Promote economic development and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Dr. Frankl s The Existential Crisis Dr. Viktor Frankl experienced an extreme traumatic event that most of us cannot even dream of happening. Dr. Frankl was a victim of the Nazi Concentration Camps for years and was continuously tortured mentally, physically, and emotionally. From having little to no food to having barely any clothes to wear during the wintertime, Dr. Frankl survived what the world witness as the most horrific genocide it had and has ever seen. One can understand how it would be so easy for someone to lose sight of what the meaning of life is to them and to give up on it completely. When surrounded by constant death and suffering, what meaning is left when a person is condemned to death? When discussing existentialism, there are a few different ways that the term can be defined. Frankl believed that existentialism could be defined as existence itself, as what existence means, and it can also be defined as struggling to find meaning in one s personal existance (Frankl, 1959). An existential crisis occurs when someone questions the meaning of his or her life. No matter where a person is in life, there is always a chance of experiencing an existential crisis, or crisis or meaning, when an individual is faced with the concept of death (Robbins, Chatterjee, Canda, 2012). Another way that a person can experience existential crises is when they are challenged to establish a sense of self and what they believe the meaning of their life is (Robbins, Chatterjee, Canda, 2012). In his book Man s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Essay On The Castle I had never been in the third tier before. It was a place that I did not belong with my coarse shirts and riding pants, even when they were not dirt covered. It was not just the clothes, there was no illusion I could put on myself that would make me fit in. There was something about the way they walked that spoke of wealth and sophistication. The gate to the fourth tier was even more guarded, two guards on each side in full battle gear. The sound of footsteps drew up eyes upward to see four more guards walking along the top of the wall, bows in hand. The increased security closer to the castle made sense, but the fact that the lower tiers that had a higher population had less protection seemed rather callous. I knew Terrans cared nothing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The front of the castle past the moot was a lot of green space and cobble stones, but that was all I could make out in the weak light. I was too panicked to take in details anyway. Instead of being taken toward the large gate in front of me, I was directed along the wall. There was a small wooden door set into the base of a drum tower in the wall. A guard saluted and unlocked the heavy wooden door. Kane let go of me and disappeared through it. I turned to look for an exit, but Captain Saban was crowding me to go down. I could not move. I took a few deep breaths, but they all got caught in my throat. Captain Saban nudged me. I took a step forward. It was pitch black inside. I put my hand out to feel the wall or anything and brushed against Kane. You ll get used to it in a moment. Kane took my hand and placed it on his shoulder before he started downward. I blinked a few times to try and see my surroundings, but it was useless. Finally, I unfocused my eyes and gathered the stray light beams from a torch shining somewhere in the distance. There was not much to see, just stone walls streaked with grime and water. After what seemed like ages of the downward spiral, in which I thought we might walk into the center of the Earth where Terran held court, the ground leveled out. We entered a long corridor, torches blazing at different intervals that made me wince at the sudden brightness and hay littering the floor. Another guard, this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Reflective Essay On The Father Of God As tears fell from my eyes and onto the light blue carpet, I heard words I never thought I would hear. One Sunday about three years ago, our assistant pastor preached a message, and after that, he announced that our pastor was stepping down. Because it was such a close knit church, we quickly learned that our pastor had committed adultery with one of my best friends mother. My family was extremely upset and the whole church was distraught when we heard the news. I had no idea what to think. This man, whom I trusted, had baptized me and answered any questions I had. My family adored our pastor because he was such a great teacher of the Bible. I could not fathom how my pastor, a man of God, could be capable of a sin like this. After church that day, my family went out to eat. At the restaurant, my father mentioned that he wanted to try out a different church. This idea my father posed to my family was so foreign to me. This church family was all I had ever known since I was four years old. I continuously asked God: after eleven years, why did my family have to be uprooted. I could not understand how something like this could happen. The Bible says in Romans 8:28 that all things work together for the good of those who love God, but I did not understand how anything good could possibly come from my situation. My brother and my father were excited to visit new churches, but my feelings were the opposite. Despite my feelings, I decided I was going to be optimistic and give ... • 52. Virtual Reality Importance Why is Virtual Reality important? Virtual Reality can positive and negative effect on people. The definition of Virtual Reality is An artificial environment which is experienced through sensory stimuli (such as sights and sounds) provided by a computer and in which one s actions partially determine what happens in the environment (www.Merriam Webster.com). Virtual reality is probably one of the newest and most advanced way to have a good time with friends and family. Virtual Reality can be used so much more than it is being used today, one day it will control what we do daily. Personally, I have only used a Virtual Reality headset two times. Although I am not very experienced with Virtual Reality, I have had tons of fun with them and they had led to great times with friends. I recently attended a 4 H camp where they had a couple of Virtual reality headsets, they put us in the situation of a drunk driver hitting head on with a driver to show us the possible dangers of drinking and driving. I thought that was one way they could further develop and use this technology. One of the more interesting activities I have done with a Virtual Reality headset besides playing games was exploring the universe and all the it holds. Sure it sounds boring, but these headsets can actually be used for learning which can make a huge difference in schools. This new technology could help with kids of all ages to learn new ways to see in detail what their teacher is trying to explain, and to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Setting The Scene From Block Grant Based Funding Setting the scene Claire McCartney, research adviser at the CIPD and author of the report, comments: There seems to be a real lack of awareness amongst senior managers, who rate the trust levels much stronger than more junior employees. It seems they either have a tendency to view things through rose tinted glasses, or are out of touch with how employees nearer the coalface are feeling. If senior leaders are in denial or burying their heads in the sand, there is a danger that a them and us mentality will emerge and change will be very difficult to achieve. , and a transition from block grant based funding to student loan based funding of teaching has taken place. The past five years have been a time of significant fast paced change for Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), with the higher education market being opened to new providers, the removal of the Student Number Control cap and changes in student funding HEIs have needed to remain agile and adaptable. (HEFCE, 2015) With International students making a huge contribution to universities and the UK including boosting the UK economy, HEIs are now required to compete in ever more challenging global markets (HEFCE BIS grant letter 2015). HEIs recent successes have been and will continue to be vital to the UKs future economic prospects as the country enters a period of growth.
