AIDS In Cry Freedom, Malcolm X, And Cry Freedom
Whether it is Tom Hanks from Forrest Gump or Julia Roberts from Erin Brockovich, actors and
actresses have the power to leave movie goers thinking. Along with the writer, director, producer and
about a hundred others, actors have some impact on what viewers feel. Denzel Washington is an actor
who is constantly involved in influential movies. Denzel Washington s roles in dissenting voice films
like Philadelphia, Fences, Malcolm X, and Cry Freedom leave viewers discussing and emotionally
reacting to opinions that differ from the majority. Philadelphia introduces justice and the social issues,
prejudice and discrimination, that comes from sexual orientation and a medical diagnosis. Fences
highlights discrimination and delivers a message on the meaning of life and all that comes with it.
Malcolm X gives viewers a look at politics, transformations, and discrimination while Cry Freedom
sheds light on the political corruption, friendship, and race relations in South Africa. In 1993,
Philadelphia was released starring Denzel Washington and Tom Hanks. Washington played a
homophobic lawyer, Joe Miller who, unwilling at first, eventually helps a man, Andrew Beckett
(Hanks) who believes he was wrongly fired from his job after a co worker saw what was assumed to
be signs and symptoms of HIV. This film is based off the true story of Geoffrey Bowers and
introduces the social and medical fear that surrounds AIDS and the people who have it. The main

Classic Themes In Blood Wedding By Gabriel Garcia Lorca
The tragic play Blood Wedding (Bodas de Sangre ) written by Federico García Lorca a Spanish poet

then leads to the character s tragic demise. The performance had a mix of dancing and singing along
with acting. It was performed in the University Theater, Directed by Marla Ladd, and Choreographed
by Sarah Cashmore. One of the main characters of the play is the groom which is a young happy man
and last surviving child to his mother. Leonardo is the bride s first and only love, he is also short
tempered and irrational. The bride is a young woman who loves Leonardo but wants to make her

Pilot Episode Audience
The pilot episode is one of the most important parts of any tv series. Its job is to make an audience
want to return and watch the next episode. For a pilot to successful in this regard it needs to be
inclusive of a wide audience. A broader audience helps to increase the number of return viewers. A
pilot episode should also feature a main character who appeals to the audience emotionally. If a viewer
becomes emotionally invested in a character, they are far more likely to watch the next episode. Mr.
Robot is a perfect example of a show that is extremely successful in regards to the second criterion,
but fails in regards to the first. Mr. Robot is aimed toward such a small, specific demographic that at
times it can frustrate viewers outside ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Robot s failure to be inclusive toward a wide audience should have been detrimental. How then, did
such a show manage to become loved by so many? The pilot should have been turning viewers away,
but instead Mr. Robot was so well accepted that it was awarded two Emmys and received four
additional nominations. The reason for Mr. Robot s success lies in the fact that Elliot Alderson is an
empathetic main character in whom the audience easily becomes emotionally invested.
One of the most heart breaking scenes in the pilot of Mr. Robot, is when Elliot comes back from work
to his empty apartment, and begins to cry. Sometimes I dream of saving the world... Elliot says in the
voiceover, but I can t....I m not special. I m no one. In that moment Elliot is overcome with
helplessness. He wants to make the world a better place but he doesn t believe he has the ability to,
and it causes him to despair. He is alone, with no friends or family to comfort him, and so he turns to
morphine.
While Elliot s actions in response to his suffering are specific, his circumstances are universal.
Feelings of helplessness, especially in a world filled with terrorism and poverty, are not uncommon,
and loneliness is an emotion with which all can identify. It is easy then, for the viewer to relate to
Elliot in this moment, and to understand why he would feel the need to self medicate. Through this
scene a powerful emotional connection is fostered, and one cannot help but to empathize with Elliot.

Case Law And Other Legal Literature
Recent case law has clearly bright to the fore the benefits of property owners declaring their beneficial
interests. Over the years, the UK tenancy law and especially Joint tenancy law, has held the intention
part of the parties in a joint tenancy contract under presumption . Declaration of interests at the onset
of any property transaction serves to provide clarity about parties intention and may help in the future
to avoid disputes. This essay seeks to establish the various intention uncertainties that are the cause of
peril for the UK joint tenancy and tenancy in common law and the best ways to go about them. This
will be done through reference to case law and other legal literature.
For property joint owners, there has always been some uncertainty especially for those who have not
made express declaration of their interests. During the Stack v Dowden case, it was expected that the
House of Lords would clarify the position, but the House s decisions, as well as the subsequent of the
Supreme Court in Jones v Kernott , have only served to demonstrate the complex issues surrounding
this particular legislation.
Joint ownership
In cases where two or more individuals purchase a property in joint names, the law states that the
parties involved will hold the legal estate as joint tenants and the beneficial interest in the property as
either joint tenants or tenants in common . While joint tenants are entitled to an equal share of the
property, tenants in common are able to

Essay on Shel Silverstein
amp;#9;Few writers of the twentieth century have made nearly the same impact on the literary society
than Sheldon Allan Silverstein. His writing encompasses a broad range of styles, from adult to
children s, comical to unusual. One of his most common styles was that of fantasy: actions and events
that cannot logically happen. This style was evident in his works, the Loser, Thumb Face, Warning,
Squishy Touch, and Skin Stealer. Through the description of these absurd circumstances, Silverstein
was able to entertain readers of all ages.
amp;#9;In Sely Friday s reference to a biography, Shel Silverstein was quoted as saying, amp;quot; . .
. I would much rather have been a good baseball player or a hit with the girls. But I couldn t play ...

The problem occurs in the story when the person cannot find the head because almost all sensory
perception went along with the head. In the end, the person says, amp;quot; . . . I guess I ll sit down /
On this rock / And rest for just a minute . . . . amp;quot; (p. 25). The rock, as the picture accompanying
the poem shows, turns out to be the person s lost head. This story is obviously impossible considering
the biological fact that when a person is decapitated, his/her life ceases. However, with the use of
simple end rhyme and an amusing story, Silverstein is able to present a light hearted view of what
could have been a tragedy.
amp;#9;Thumb Face, included in A Light in the Attic, is another example of Silverstein s use of
fantasy. The first line of the poem basically says it all: amp;quot; There is a face upon my thumb . . ..
amp;quot; (p. 55). For all practical purposes, this is an absurd situation. The speaker goes on to
describe the features of the small face on his/her thumb. Certain descriptions of the face imply a sense
of minuteness and leave the reader feeling compassionate for it because of its size. For example,
Silverstein wrote, amp;quot; It has a little twisty mouth, / And yellow teethies, too. amp;quot; Again,
Silverstein uses end rhyme in the pattern of amp;quot;a b c b, amp;quot; which helps move the story
along in a definite rhythm. While the subject matter is irrational, Silverstein uses vivid descriptions
and a straightforward picture

Paikea In Niki Caro s Whale Rider
In Whale Rider, director Niki Caro crafts the story of a young girl name Paikea who strives to ascend
to leadership in her Maori tribe despite the sexist beliefs of the grandfather and leader, Koro. Paikea is
conditioned to think that something about her birth, as well as her very existence is wrong; that, if her
brother had survived and not her, circumstances in her town would be better. Koro, even says, When
she was born, that s when things went wrong for us. This attitude affects Paikea, since Koro is a father
figure to her. Her dedication to the traditions of old and the damaging attitude of her grandfather
create cognitive dissonance in her mind, confusing her and leading her to contemplate her purpose
within her own society. After an outburst from Koro, Paikea asks her father, Why doesn t he want me?
Because of her respect for her Grandfather, Paikea is in danger of internalizing the sexism she
experiences in her pursuit of leadership. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the tribe (despite her bloodline and her qualifications), she does, lypublic question the patriarchal
system that Koro believes in, We can learn, she says, and if the knowledge is given to everyone, then
we can have lots of leaders, and soon everyone will be strong. Paikea question the idea of a chosen

Upper Falls Descriptive Writing
It was a cold fall day when we decided to take a trip down to the Cataract. The traffic was light on the
way there, my mom falling asleep in the back while I talked to Jeremy while he was driving. Every
time I looked out of the window I saw beautiful shades of red or yellow. The second to last road that
we turned onto was a gravel road with a bunch of twists and hills. Jeremy loved these type of roads,
especially when he had the blazer to play with. We passed our usual spot that we take to get to the
lower falls and turned onto the actual road that takes us into the park itself. There were only two to
three other cars parked at the lower falls, one of them started and ready to leave. As we got out of the
car, cold air whipped around us. Once ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Enduring Love In Wuthering Heights
Wuthering Heights: An Ever Lasting Love Emily Bronte takes romance to a darker side in her gothic
novel Wuthering Heights. She develops a relationship between the characters and the setting which
further reveal her central themes and conveys her idea. Bronte s work of art makes an attempt to argue
that social class has the power to be a deciding factor in who one chooses to love. This is seen and
conveyed through her characterization, the setting, and revealed through central themes. In Wuthering
Heights complex characters are created to further emphasize how fatal attraction can lead to major
conflicts. Bronte s gothic spin begins with Heathcliff s character who arrives to Wuthering Heights
when Mr. Earnshaw returns from Liverpool. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is instantly recognized what the difference between the two settings is. Wuthering Heights is viewed
in a darker light whereas Thrushcross Grange is bright and more inviting. After the incident Catherine
is then ordered to stay at the Grange with the Linton s for a couple weeks. During this time, she
transforms from a wild savage girl (Baba) into a lady. Heathcliff recalls Catherine s superb treatment
at the Lintons, Afterwards, they dried and combed her beautiful hair, and gave her a pair of enormous
slippers, and wheeled her to the fire; as merry as she could be (Bronte) Catherine s treatment contrasts
the way Mr. Lockwood was greeted at Wuthering Heights. It is evident that the two manors are as
different as the people in them. A transformation is made in Catherine s appearance and character
when she marries Edgar and moves over to Grange where she experiences life being spoiled and
pampered as she pleases. When she is welcomed back to the Heights Heathcliff greets her and in
return is insulted when she laughs to find him dirty (55) Evidently, this supports that her
transformation is not only physical but also spiritual for her comparison between them two. Also
adding to the fact that the two manors are better understood as two different worlds. Even though
Catherine grew up in Heathcliff s world, her move has caused her to change making their love
impossible to pursue. Since then, she comes to spend more time with Edgar while cutting time to be
with Heathcliff. She explains to Nelly her reasons for taking Edgars hand in marriage the ground
under his feet, and the air over his head, and every thing he touches, and every word he says I love all
his looks, and all his actions, and him entirely, and altogether (Bronte) It is undeniable that her love
for Edgar is based off his prestige and not entirely for who he is. She is seduced by his wealth and
civilized life at the

Minority Government Essay
In recent years minority government has made a profound impact in Scotland. Devolution occurred in
1997 with the resurrection of a Scottish Parliament which was assigned certain devolved powers and
provided Scotland with the much desired control diverted from Westminster. Minority government
occurs when no party in an election wins a majority thus the party closest to winning a majority of
seats will need to work with others to pass legislation on an issue by issue basis. With this major
change comes key developments and problems in regard to the way that the government functions.
This essay argues that minority government, primarily the Scottish National Party s (SNP) minority
government between 2007 11, has been effective since devolution ... Show more content on

Firstly, devolution has provided Scotland with legislative competence in areas of health, education and
local government affairs amongst a number of others under the Scotland Act 1998. One change
resulting from devolution is the electoral system: with devolution came the Additional Member
System (AMS) which often results in coalitions or minority governments (Hepburn, 2009, p.197).
This is apparent as the establishment of Holyrood immediately resulted in eight years of Liberal
Democrat and Labour coalition followed by a term of SNP minority government. The SNP reluctantly
formed a one party minority government in 2007 and it was no exception to the struggles of passing
legislation without a majority. Despite the establishment of a co operation agreement with the Green
party and support of independent MSP Margo MacDonald; the SNP still failed to pass legislation on a
number of occasions. For example, they had to drop major policy plans including their promised
referendum on Scottish independence and agendas regarding local income tax as a result of
parliamentary defeat. As argued by The Economist (2009): they failed on big manifesto promises,
such as replacing local property taxes with local income tax . This is significant because it

My Favorite Reading Of Reading
When I was in elementary and middle school, I loved to read. I could spends hours on end reading
about Harry Potter, Greek Mythology, and A Series of Unfortunate Events. One of my favorite things
to do was going to the Round Rock Public Library, picking up several books, and immersing myself in
the pages of text. As a kid, I could spend countless hours flipping the pages and scrawling through the
texts as the hero often overcame the many obstacles that stood in his way. I loved to read for my
personal enjoyment and I was always excited when we had free time in between lessons, or activities
in class. Of course you may be wondering why everything is in the past tense instead of the present.

My love for sports began when I was five year olds and since then, it has been one of my biggest
passions. I would set an alarm for 6:30 and wake myself up every morning just to watch Sportscenter
before school started. Keep in mind, I was five and six years old. As a result, my biggest goal in life is
to become a sports journalist, preferably at ESPN. If I am given the option to read, or want to kill time
before school, I spend my time reading sports articles and biographies to further my knowledge on the
topic. Now it may seem hypocritical of me to claim I am not an avid reader when the reality is that I
read quite a lot. I suppose I make this claim because I do not read books or novels that many consider
to be classics or important works of art and literature. Instead, I focus on the works of journalists
whom I aspire to be. Whereas most would consider Shakespeare, Dickinson, Twain, and Steinbeck,
etc. as the great authors of literature, I have a different list. The work of Bob Costas, Tim Kurkjan, and
Buster Olney have influenced by decision in becoming a journalist.
Earlier I made a claim suggesting I do not like to read for fun. We found that my claim was mostly
untrue because I do read for fun, but it s very different from most. There are many series and books
that I enjoy reading other than what s on CBS Sports, ESPN, and Bleacher Report. After going
through my current bookshelf and examining each book, my ideal bookshelf possesses the following:

The Morality Of Law By John Finnis
This is also in accordance to the theories made by John Finnis, a naturalist, who proposes that humans
need law to help them achieve their own projects in life and any rule that hinders them from doing so
can be rightfully disobeyed given that it doesn t cause a social distortion. With all these adding up, we
can see why he considers the procedure of lawmaking as the internal morality of law. An analogy was
given by him with his principles of legality being labelled as the rules to using the tool, law. If the
rules are not followed then the tool cannot be used to its fullest extent and thus the definition of the
law is not realised. Accommodation to the principle is morale as it helps in achieving a human s
greatest purpose in life. His idea of internal morality of law is illustrated in his book, The Morality of
Law, through a story of a fictional king named Rex who applied his rules in ways that always resulted
in a failure. Fuller laid out the failed attempts of ruling and turns it into a list of eight Principles of
Legality or as he calls it as, Desideratum of Law. He contends that the conditions of the principle have
to be met for a legal system to be considered as valid, and the lack of it fails as such. That said, in
order for a legal system to be recognised, first and essentially, there must be rules. It is not enough for
someone to give out commands, there must be proper law. The rules then need to be publicised,
prospective, understandable, non contradictory,

Abstract
Social media is an inherent part of current Internet and used by more than a billion individuals
worldwide. They provide opportunities to share ideas and interact with others, from old friends to
strangers. In spite of the fact that social media has changed individuals lives with unnumbered
benefits, many disadvantages, to users, are hidden under the superficial advantages, including
decreasing health levels, declining communication skills, breaking interpersonal relationships and
violating personal privacy. In order to prevent negative effects from social media, curtailing time on it

In the article Weight problems take a hefty toll on body and mind (n. d.), the author states that obesity
is harmful to almost any part of health, from reproductive and respiratory function to brains. It raises
the risks of several debilitating, and lethal diseases, including diabetes, heart disease, and some
cancers. From these points, it is not laborious to recognize that social media is decreasing net citizens
health levels indirectly. Social media also leads to mental problems, especially to teenagers. Teenagers
who engage with social media during the night could be damaging their sleep and increasing their risk
of anxiety and depressive illness. Teenagers talked about the pressure they felt to make themselves
available, and the resulting anxiety if they did not respond immediately to texts or posts(Udorie, J).
Not only does social media cut down health levels, but it also weakens communication skills. Ali

social media have reduced a large number of communication and interaction barriers, and now one can
convey his/her feelings and opinions over various themes. However, her opinion is not

Examination of Mrs Wright in Trifles by Susan Glaspell Essay
Examination of Mrs Wright in Trifles by Susan Glaspell
The play ?Trifles?, by Susan Glaspell , is an examination of the different levels of early 1900?s mid
western farming society?s attitudes towards women and equality. The obvious theme in this story is
men discounting women?s intelligence and their ability to play a man?s role, as detectives, in the
story. A less apparent theme is the empathy the women in the plot find for each other. Looking at the
play from this perspective we see a distinct set of characters, a plot, and a final act of sacrifice.

Phi sigma sigma began when their founders went to the Dean of Women at Hunter College in New
York City with a plan. They wanted to begin a sorority that would be open to all women. On
November 26, 1913 Phi Sigma Sigma started. It was the first nonsectarian sorority, began under Fay

In 1913, in New York City, Phi Sigma Sigma was incorporated. Originally under Phi Sigma Omega,

No Laws In Lord Of The Flies
Imagine if someone you loved was shot. You call the cops, but they say that there is nothing that can
be done because there are no laws saying they have to punish the criminal. If there were no laws,
criminal could get away with crimes like that repeatedly without any punishment. This is a prime
example of why laws are needed to keep society in order. The idea of rules in society has been around
since King Hammurabi created the first set of laws in 1760 B.C. Egyptian civilizations created laws so
that their society would last longer than other civilizations because people would respect their morals.

Lord of the Flies. As people grow older in society, they get separated into groups based on age (baby,

beginning of Lord of the Flies, the author named the children littluns , which was a sign that
civilization was not lost and the children had not been on the island for too long. As the author nears
the end of the book, he begins to call them all savages. On page 192, as things were getting crazy and

Summary Of The Political Allegory In Macbeth
William Shakespeare s Macbeth is widely thought to be written in 1606. Three years after the
ascension of James VI of Scotland to the English Throne as James I and some months after the
discovery of the Gunpowder Plot, although the exact date remains impossible to establish. The turmoil
of the era can be attributed to the civil unrest. The narrative acts almost as a instrument to subjugate an
unruly citizenship by purging negative emotions such as anger, fear or anxiety. The Jacobean era was
defined by its conflict not only between two warring ideologies but by opposing political stances.
Unionist and nationalist stood against each other in opposition to the change of power dynamics,
religious upheaval caused England to be further divided. Shakespeare s use of catharsis acts as a balm
providing the proper purgation of negative emotion and therefore supressing real rebellion in James
rule.
Lauded as the most instructive tragedy in the world Macbeth follows the typical five act structure of
the era, exposition, rising action, climax, falling action and dénouement. The familiarity of this
structure would have clearly reinforced for a contemporary audience that Macbeth would face his
inevitable downfall in the final fifth act. His fall from the seat of power echoes the traditional belief in
the great chain of being and the divine right of kings. As a political allegory, Macbeth in part serves as
a warning to potential despots. As critic Stephen Greenblatt has observed, There is always someone
who escapes the murderer s net, someone who poses a threat seeks to redress an injury or simply
remembers what it felt like to be free and unafraid. Macbeth is more interested in power than in
loyalty. In each subsequent act, we find that Lord Acton s observation: Absolute power corrupts
absolutely is true. Macbeth eventually will stop at nothing not even his own beheading, to hold on to
power:
I will not yield
To kiss the ground before young Malcolm s feet,
And to be baited with the rabble s curse...
I will try the last.
The Scottish play is without doubt an allegorical tool, but it can be viewed from many differing
perspectives for example while the narrative can be viewed as a political statement it could

Ethical Dilemm Moral Dilemma
Ethical dilemma(s) One ethical dilemma Anthony has encountered is helping the family understand
where their loved one is currently standing. Communicating life threatening news takes courage and
certain factors need to be taken into consideration. In the textbook, The Last Dance it is stressed that
physicians must consider the patient s personality, emotional constitution, and capacity for continued
function under stress. Communication is essential and how and when the life threatening news is
conveyed is an essential part of this process. Furthermore, DeSpelder and Strickland (2009) say that
how the diagnosis is communicated can influence a patient attitude toward the illness, response to
treatment, ability to cope.
Views about dying, death, and afterlife:
We are all going to die. This is something unavoidable and is part of human nature. Anything that has
been born will have to encounter death also. Anthony feels that death is fearsome, and often times
people avoid having such discussion. The truth of the matter is that death is an integral part of our
lives; we are surrounded by death. The topic of death is represented in mass media, television shows,
cartoons, magazines and the internet. We hear songs about death, and we even sign to their tunes as if
we were singing a farewell to our loved ones. So what is there to be afraid of? The subject of death has
been embedded in our culture. Anthony believes that death is an existential, emotional and physical
need of

Specification model of culture assumes the harmony and the consistency in both the cultural and the
social levels (Christoph Weckerle, 2008). It further specify particular functions and groups in the
different social system.
The second model of culture usually assumes that there are several more fundamental conflicts in the
social order levels but still views the cultural system to be still integrated relatively. In this second
model, the conflicting social groupings and functions can usually develop antagonistic subcultures and
not only complementary aesthetic referred to as specifications and this model is called cultural
refraction (Wagner, 2011).
The third model is the columnisation that describes the fundamental antagonism that exist between the
social and cultural system since its interest groupings occur in the hermetically sealed columns of
culture. Volkswagen Group Company is one of the international automobile competitors of Toyota

Charles Berger s Uncertainty Reduction Theory
Review
Communication is a vast subject that incompasses quite a number of theories. In conducting this
theoretical review I chose to focus on the theory of Uncertainty Reduction. This theory was developed
in 1975 by American professor Charles Berger and His associate Richard Calabrese. Uncertainty
Reduction Theory is based on communications impact on the social interaction between individuals
that do not know each other and how that first interaction is used to gain information to reduce
uncertainty amongst each other in order to be able to communicate freely and develop a relationship.
Uncertainty Reduction theory states that, the primary goal of a person when initializing an interaction
is to increase their ability to predict and explain the other individuals behavioral choices. In other
words people seek to gain information about an individual in order to feel comfortable enough to start
communicating. An individual does this by gaining information about the other person through asking
questions, using visual cues, body language, and even overhearing conversations. Anything that gives
them a peek or an idea into who that person is any bit of information that helps reduce the uncertainty
between individuals is key in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It has had a huge impact on the study of interpersonal communication and many other communication
fields. Yet it does have its criticisms. Many state that the assumptions made by the theory are too
broad making it easy to be disproven. An example is that many scholars do not contribute uncertainty
reduction the main motivating factor in initiating conversation. Also the demographics of the people
observed in the studying of this theory was very limited, mostly only white middle class individuals,
making it difficult to apply to all interactions between all individuals. These factors all contribute in
weakening the theory in the eyes of most scholars. (communication studies,

Compare And Contrast Basketball And Football
American society has many different types sports from all around the world. For example, the main
two contemporary sports are basketball and football. Both sports require people, a ball, and open area
to play in. However, these two sports are played differently. By comparing and contrasting basketball
and football, we can examine them in terms of how they re played, the amount of people in each
teams, and the location the sports are being played in. First, basketball is played differently than
football. Basketball is a game of shooting the hoop with a rounded ball. There are two hoops at the
end of the court that you must shoot in to score. The ball must be consistently be dribbling off your

shaped ball that must reach the opponent s other end of the field. There are two big Y shape at each
field and at the end of the field will be a touchdown to score. Running will be the key to winning a
football game while dodging other opponents. Furthermore, both sports are changeling and require
hard work to play. In addition, There are many types of these sports played from fun to pro sports. Pro

Wal Mart Makes Slow Progress Navigating Africa s Challenges In 2010, Wal Mart Stores Inc had
invested into South Africa with $2.4 billion on a stake for the company Massmart. The company went
into it fast without knowing too much of what to expect and their result was not well. Citizens were
anticipating lower prices and cheaper goods and said that s not what they received. Going into African
retail is a very risky business for companies because not many have and those that have, very few
have succeeded. The phrase Africa Rising was invented because it is thought to be the next booming
place for retail companies even though the only big succession has been from the company Shoprite.
In conclusion, after Wal Mart s mistake, companies are focusing on Europe and Asia where there are
shopping malls and slowly working into Africa.

Natural Gas
Natural Gas Natural gas is another means of energy source that provides heating and electricity to
many individuals. It is a natural mixture of methane, carbon dioxide, nitrogen and hydrogen sulfide.
Natural gas was first found back in 1626 when the French found the natives lighting gas seeping in
and out of the ground around Lake Erie. When natural gas was first introduced into civilization as a
means of energy source it was not efficient nor was it environmentally friendly. It was first in the

Analysis Of 12 OClock High
The movie 12 O clock High was filmed and produced in 1949 directly after World War Two. This was
a critical moment in American history simply because this was the first time that America was the
greatest power globally. Due to this rise in international responsibility from power, patriotism soared
in the United States. Culturally films like 12 O clock High were produced highlighting important roles
that were played in the defeat of the Axis powers during World War Two. On a more extensive note,
the film displays what leadership influence tactics can be used to drastically turn a unit around during
a time of war. This unit, part of the American Army Air Force, is known as the 918th Bomber Group
located in England, during the year of 1942. At the beginning of the film, Col. Davenport was the Air
Commanding Officer with Lt. Col. Gately as the Air Executive Officer. However, General Savage had
to step in and relieve Col. Davenport of command after several major battle losses cause morale to fall
to an all time low. Additionally, Lt. Col. Gately is also relieved of command as Air Executive Officer
and placed as an aircraft commander due to his inability to fly missions and be a part of the team effort
. This is the major turning point in the movie as from this point forward the 918th Bomber Group
eventually becomes a brutal fighting force with the help Major Stovall who is the administrator for the

Consequences Of Underage Drinking
Underage drinking has been a growing concern among the public. As society idolizes the party life

the fact that there are ramification that come along with underage drinking. Though there are factors
that play along with the juvenile party trend, as a community, we must come together and be aware of
the poor results these actions can cause. Underage drinking has become an outrage; its use among
teenagers has consequences such as brain damage, addictiveness, and safety risks. Teenagers can tend

Alexander The Great Perseverance
The personal psychological factors that helped make Alexander the Great an effective military leader
is his ambition, insight, and his perseverance. His ambition is shown through his desire to defeat the
Persians and spread the Greek way of life throughout the world. This desire of conquest and revenge
show his ambition and more importantly this desire led to him having a level of insight, concept of
moral, and perseverance that helped him to defeat Tyre. Tyre is located about a half a mile away from
shore and due to his lack of a navy Alexander had to come up with creative ways to defeat Tyre. One
of the key moves that he did was to make a land bridge by using the natural resources around him to
help his soldiers reach the impenitrable wall that surrounded Tyre. The first time that Alexander built
the bridge it was destroyed due to a ship that was full of flammable objects and charcoal burning

The Rites Of Passage By Arnold Van Gennep
Van Gennep and Turner has introduced to all of us a different perspective in looking at and analyzing
not only pilgrimage, but also how people understand and form ideas surrounding the change in states
and statuses, and give meanings to the different parts of the journey. Through this transition, we will
find that many of the societal roles of those who take on the journey are suspended. Particularly, Van
Gennep discusses the 3 rites of passage using territorial passages to explain how the journey from one
sphere or domain to another is joined by various formalities. The 3 rites of passage are pre liminal
(rites of separation), liminal (rites of transition), and postliminal (rites of incorporation). Turner

Other examples is how most of them had some sort of weapons for protection and a suitcase or bag to
carry their belongings that they may need for their journey or new destination, such as Doc Boone
who brought his medical bag with him. I also thought that when the gambler Hatfield brought along
his deck of cards for the journey really illustrated a characteristic of rites of separation. Knowing that
Hartfield is a gambler, I m sure that his deck of cards brought him familiarity and comfort. Following
the rites of separation is the rites of transition, also known as liminal. This stage of the journey is when
the individual will experience a wide range of emotion and transitions. Their consciousness is further
heightened, while their societal roles may be suspended. Turner states that during the intervening
liminal phase, the state of the ritual subject (the passenger or liminar ) becomes ambiguous, he passes
through a realm or dimensions that has few or none of the attributes of the past or coming state, he is
betwixt and between all familiar lines of classification (turner 2). In other words, the liminal phase is
the between state where the individual (the traveler) is in a state where they are not fully or properly
either of two things. They have just left their current state and has yet entered or joined the next one.
This phase is ambiguous because the individual social position is often not clear or the same as it was

fight took place was as Jack Sparrow (Depp) came to the docks at Port Royal where they don t support
pirates. When he arrived he saved Elizabeth Swann (Knightley) after she fell off the cliff into the
water and he jumped in saving her, realising her corset. When they got out of the water the guards
came and threatened Jack Sparrow (Depp), but Elizabeth Swann (Knightley) defended him but this
backfired. He took her as a hostage and this is how the fight began. ... Show more content on

There were several reasons he chose this action, firstly as he grew up having a deep hatred towards
pirates, this is as he grew up with Elizabeth Swann s family and he was always told that pirates have
no integrity, values or morals that Will Turner (Bloom) possesses and believes it s his civic duty to
fight Jack Sparrow (Depp). A less obvious reason is the anger he has towards Jack Sparrow as he
threatened the girl he loves, Elizabeth Swann (Knightley), he chose to fight as he wanted to prove to
everyone, especially Elizabeth Swann (Knightley), that he deserves a high status which he would

Negative Effect Of Video Games
Yesterday a child killed 16 people and injured many more in less than 20 mins. He is just a child, how
is this possible? Video games have become more popular with children, and adolescents, copious
amount of video games exposes children to violence. Did you know that children and adolescents who
played more violent games were most likely to report aggressive cognitions and behaviors? (Toppo
2015) In today s society, violent video games such as Call of Duty have a negative effect on health,
growth and development, and posing a bad influence for children and young adults. Due to the
advancing technology video games are becoming more popular, therefore having a negative effect on
children and young adults. Call of Duty has a negative effect on children due to the fact it is one of the
most played video games. The plot of the story is about a soldier in the military, whom of which you
are fighting for your country. The video game takes place in world war two, where the player uses

Emotional Dependency in Everything That Rises Must...
In the short story, Everything That Rises Must Converge, Flannery O Connor writes about a man
taking his mother on the bus to a weight reducing class. The man, Julian, is an only child whose father
is dead. Although O Connor does not reveal Julian s exact age, she makes it clear that he has been an
adult for some time. The mother, who struggled to raise Julian in his younger years, is still supporting
him. The story goes into detail about the emotional relationship this man has with his mother and how
it leaves him emotionally stunted and depressed. Flannery O Connor has chosen to make the main
characters mother and son to show that a boy who cannot manage to become an independent adult
man, that is, one who remains an immature, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Catching sight of his long, hopeless, irritated face, she stopped suddenly with a grief stricken look,
and pulled back on his arm. Wait on me, she said. I m going back to the house and take this thing off
and tomorrow I m going to return it. I was out of my head. I can pay the gas bill with the seven fifty
(pg 1081).
This clearly shows that in reality he has no real grounds to hate her; she has not done anything to him
that is so horrible that he should feel the way that he says he does. Julian does care about his mother,
but because of his immaturity, he cannot admit this to himself. Instead he obsesses about this hatred he
has, which is really self hatred because he cannot grow up and accept his mother s ways. Mature
adults may still be embarrassed by the ways that their parents hold on to old customs and beliefs, but
adults also can acknowledge the fact that as an adult one is not represented by another adult s
behavior, but by one s own. Julian feels that his mother is making a martyr of him. When you are a
martyr, you are at peace with being killed because you still have your faith in God, which ensures your
way into heaven. Losing faith just before dying is the worst thing that could happen for a martyr.
Julian s faith is the hatred of his mother s ways. When he realizes that he has no grounds for which to
loathe his mother and that his hate is based on

Philadelphia introduces justice and the social issues, prejudice and discrimination, that comes from sexual orientation and a medical diagnosis. Fences highlights discrimination and delivers a message on the meaning of life and all that comes with it. Malcolm X gives viewers a look at politics, transformations, and discrimination while Cry Freedom sheds light on the political corruption, friendship, and race relations in South Africa. In 1993, Philadelphia was released starring Denzel Washington and Tom Hanks. For a pilot to successful in this regard it needs to be inclusive of a wide audience. A broader audience helps to increase the number of return viewers. A pilot episode should also feature a main character who appeals to the audience emotionally. If a viewer becomes emotionally invested in a character, they are far more likely to watch the next episode. Robot s failure to be inclusive toward a wide audience should have been detrimental. How then, did such a show manage to become loved by so many? The pilot should have been turning viewers away, but instead Mr. Robot was so well accepted that it was awarded two Emmys and received four additional nominations. The reason for Mr. Robot s success lies in the fact that Elliot Alderson is an empathetic main character in whom the audience easily becomes emotionally invested. One of the most heart breaking scenes in the pilot of Mr. Robot, is when Elliot comes back from work to his empty apartment, and begins to cry. Sometimes I dream of saving the world... Elliot says in the voiceover, but I can t....I m not special. I m no one. In that moment Elliot is overcome with helplessness. He wants to make the world a better place but he doesn t believe he has the ability to, and it causes him to despair. He is alone, with no friends or family to comfort him, and so he turns to morphine. While Elliot s actions in response to his suffering are specific, his circumstances are universal. Feelings of helplessness, especially in a world filled with terrorism and poverty, are not uncommon, and loneliness is an emotion with which all can identify. It is easy then, for the viewer to relate to Elliot in this moment, and to understand why he would feel the need to self medicate. Through this scene a powerful emotional connection is fostered, and one cannot help but to empathize with Elliot. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This will be done through reference to case law and other legal literature. For property joint owners, there has always been some uncertainty especially for those who have not made express declaration of their interests. During the Stack v Dowden case, it was expected that the House of Lords would clarify the position, but the House s decisions, as well as the subsequent of the Supreme Court in Jones v Kernott , have only served to demonstrate the complex issues surrounding this particular legislation. Joint ownership In cases where two or more individuals purchase a property in joint names, the law states that the parties involved will hold the legal estate as joint tenants and the beneficial interest in the property as either joint tenants or tenants in common . • 6. Essay on Shel Silverstein amp;#9;Few writers of the twentieth century have made nearly the same impact on the literary society than Sheldon Allan Silverstein. His writing encompasses a broad range of styles, from adult to children s, comical to unusual. One of his most common styles was that of fantasy: actions and events that cannot logically happen. This style was evident in his works, the Loser, Thumb Face, Warning, Squishy Touch, and Skin Stealer. Through the description of these absurd circumstances, Silverstein was able to entertain readers of all ages. amp;#9;In Sely Friday s reference to a biography, Shel Silverstein was quoted as saying, amp;quot; . . . This story is obviously impossible considering the biological fact that when a person is decapitated, his/her life ceases. However, with the use of simple end rhyme and an amusing story, Silverstein is able to present a light hearted view of what could have been a tragedy. amp;#9;Thumb Face, included in A Light in the Attic, is another example of Silverstein s use of fantasy. The first line of the poem basically says it all: amp;quot; There is a face upon my thumb . . .. amp;quot; (p. 55). For all practical purposes, this is an absurd situation. The speaker goes on to describe the features of the small face on his/her thumb. Certain descriptions of the face imply a sense of minuteness and leave the reader feeling compassionate for it because of its size. For example, Silverstein wrote, amp;quot; It has a little twisty mouth, / And yellow teethies, too. amp;quot; Again, Silverstein uses end rhyme in the pattern of amp;quot;a b c b, amp;quot; which helps move the story along in a definite rhythm. Paikea In Niki Caro s Whale Rider In Whale Rider, director Niki Caro crafts the story of a young girl name Paikea who strives to ascend to leadership in her Maori tribe despite the sexist beliefs of the grandfather and leader, Koro. She develops a relationship between the characters and the setting which further reveal her central themes and conveys her idea. This is seen and conveyed through her characterization, the setting, and revealed through central themes. Heathcliff recalls Catherine s superb treatment at the Lintons, Afterwards, they dried and combed her beautiful hair, and gave her a pair of enormous slippers, and wheeled her to the fire; as merry as she could be (Bronte) Catherine s treatment contrasts the way Mr. Lockwood was greeted at Wuthering Heights. It is evident that the two manors are as different as the people in them. A transformation is made in Catherine s appearance and character when she marries Edgar and moves over to Grange where she experiences life being spoiled and pampered as she pleases. When she is welcomed back to the Heights Heathcliff greets her and in return is insulted when she laughs to find him dirty (55) Evidently, this supports that her transformation is not only physical but also spiritual for her comparison between them two. Also adding to the fact that the two manors are better understood as two different worlds. Even though Catherine grew up in Heathcliff s world, her move has caused her to change making their love impossible to pursue. Devolution occurred in 1997 with the resurrection of a Scottish Parliament which was assigned certain devolved powers and provided Scotland with the much desired control diverted from Westminster. Firstly, devolution has provided Scotland with legislative competence in areas of health, education and local government affairs amongst a number of others under the Scotland Act 1998. One change resulting from devolution is the electoral system: with devolution came the Additional Member System (AMS) which often results in coalitions or minority governments (Hepburn, 2009, p.197). This is apparent as the establishment of Holyrood immediately resulted in eight years of Liberal Democrat and Labour coalition followed by a term of SNP minority government. The SNP reluctantly formed a one party minority government in 2007 and it was no exception to the struggles of passing legislation without a majority. Despite the establishment of a co operation agreement with the Green party and support of independent MSP Margo MacDonald; the SNP still failed to pass legislation on a number of occasions. For example, they had to drop major policy plans including their promised referendum on Scottish independence and agendas regarding local income tax as a result of parliamentary defeat. The Morality Of Law By John Finnis This is also in accordance to the theories made by John Finnis, a naturalist, who proposes that humans need law to help them achieve their own projects in life and any rule that hinders them from doing so can be rightfully disobeyed given that it doesn t cause a social distortion. With all these adding up, we can see why he considers the procedure of lawmaking as the internal morality of law. An analogy was given by him with his principles of legality being labelled as the rules to using the tool, law. If the rules are not followed then the tool cannot be used to its fullest extent and thus the definition of the law is not realised. Accommodation to the principle is morale as it helps in achieving a human s greatest purpose in life. His idea of internal morality of law is illustrated in his book, The Morality of Law, through a story of a fictional king named Rex who applied his rules in ways that always resulted in a failure. Fuller laid out the failed attempts of ruling and turns it into a list of eight Principles of Legality or as he calls it as, Desideratum of Law. He contends that the conditions of the principle have to be met for a legal system to be considered as valid, and the lack of it fails as such. That said, in order for a legal system to be recognised, first and essentially, there must be rules. It is not enough for someone to give out commands, there must be proper law. Examination of Mrs Wright in Trifles by Susan Glaspell Essay Examination of Mrs Wright in Trifles by Susan Glaspell The play ?Trifles?, by Susan Glaspell , is an examination of the different levels of early 1900?s mid western farming society?s attitudes towards women and equality. The obvious theme in this story is men discounting women?s intelligence and their ability to play a man?s role, as detectives, in the story. A less apparent theme is the empathy the women in the plot find for each other. Looking at the play from this perspective we see a distinct set of characters, a plot, and a final act of sacrifice. • 17. Summary Of The Political Allegory In Macbeth William Shakespeare s Macbeth is widely thought to be written in 1606. Three years after the ascension of James VI of Scotland to the English Throne as James I and some months after the discovery of the Gunpowder Plot, although the exact date remains impossible to establish. The turmoil of the era can be attributed to the civil unrest. The narrative acts almost as a instrument to subjugate an unruly citizenship by purging negative emotions such as anger, fear or anxiety. The Jacobean era was defined by its conflict not only between two warring ideologies but by opposing political stances. Unionist and nationalist stood against each other in opposition to the change of power dynamics, religious upheaval caused England to be further divided. Shakespeare s use of catharsis acts as a balm providing the proper purgation of negative emotion and therefore supressing real rebellion in James rule. Lauded as the most instructive tragedy in the world Macbeth follows the typical five act structure of the era, exposition, rising action, climax, falling action and dénouement. The familiarity of this structure would have clearly reinforced for a contemporary audience that Macbeth would face his inevitable downfall in the final fifth act. His fall from the seat of power echoes the traditional belief in the great chain of being and the divine right of kings. As a political allegory, Macbeth in part serves as a warning to potential despots. As critic Stephen Greenblatt has observed, There is always someone who escapes the murderer s net, someone who poses a threat seeks to redress an injury or simply remembers what it felt like to be free and unafraid. Macbeth is more interested in power than in loyalty. In each subsequent act, we find that Lord Acton s observation: Absolute power corrupts absolutely is true. Macbeth eventually will stop at nothing not even his own beheading, to hold on to power: I will not yield To kiss the ground before young Malcolm s feet, And to be baited with the rabble s curse... • 22. Charles Berger s Uncertainty Reduction Theory Review Communication is a vast subject that incompasses quite a number of theories. In conducting this theoretical review I chose to focus on the theory of Uncertainty Reduction. This theory was developed in 1975 by American professor Charles Berger and His associate Richard Calabrese. Uncertainty Reduction Theory is based on communications impact on the social interaction between individuals that do not know each other and how that first interaction is used to gain information to reduce uncertainty amongst each other in order to be able to communicate freely and develop a relationship. Uncertainty Reduction theory states that, the primary goal of a person when initializing an interaction is to increase their ability to predict and explain the other individuals behavioral choices. In other words people seek to gain information about an individual in order to feel comfortable enough to start communicating. An individual does this by gaining information about the other person through asking questions, using visual cues, body language, and even overhearing conversations. Anything that gives them a peek or an idea into who that person is any bit of information that helps reduce the uncertainty between individuals is key in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many state that the assumptions made by the theory are too broad making it easy to be disproven. An example is that many scholars do not contribute uncertainty reduction the main motivating factor in initiating conversation. Also the demographics of the people observed in the studying of this theory was very limited, mostly only white middle class individuals, making it difficult to apply to all interactions between all individuals. These factors all contribute in weakening the theory in the eyes of most scholars. (communication studies, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Knowing that Hartfield is a gambler, I m sure that his deck of cards brought him familiarity and comfort. Following the rites of separation is the rites of transition, also known as liminal. This stage of the journey is when the individual will experience a wide range of emotion and transitions. Their consciousness is further heightened, while their societal roles may be suspended. Turner states that during the intervening liminal phase, the state of the ritual subject (the passenger or liminar ) becomes ambiguous, he passes through a realm or dimensions that has few or none of the attributes of the past or coming state, he is betwixt and between all familiar lines of classification (turner 2). In other words, the liminal phase is the between state where the individual (the traveler) is in a state where they are not fully or properly either of two things.
