First off, I feel that the correct use of euthanasia is when an animal is in devastating pain, and when

I discovered 11 new proteins which are decisive factors in the biological formation of invertebrates.
The functions of proteins allowed us to understand how a huge number of invertebrates interact with
the environment and how they respond to global climate change. Because of my discovery and
outstanding achievements in the doctoral and postdoctoral programs, I received President Award from
the University of the Ryukyus and many awards from international scientific forums. Using these
emerging environmental innovative approaches, I performed whole proteomics analyses in calcifying
marine invertebrates and discovered how and which extracellular proteins (e.g., ECMP 67) are
responsible for making calcite mineral in their skeletons and subsequently explored how some
invertebrates (e.g. octocorals) defy their environments (see http://www.asbmb.org/news.aspx?

Throughout my doctoral and post doctoral research programs following the environmental proteomics
approach, I identified key functional new proteins (including Ca2+ binding and glycosylation
proteins), genes and enzyme which are involved in the biological process of the chemical formation of
calcium carbonate skeleton in corals. These findings are very important for understanding the
biodiversity of ecosystems, calcification process, chemistry of the oceans, and environmental change
