How Organelles Work Together to Make and Secrete the...
Human Biology Unit 1 Assignment
The human body is made up of 100 trillion cells. All cells have the same basic structure (see figure 1)
however some cells are specialised to suit a specific purpose. An example of this is the pancreatic beta
cells found in the islets of Langerhans. These cells are specialised to synthesise the protein insulin that
is involved in the metabolism of glucose in the cells. (Layden, 2010)
Figure 1 Picture to show basic structure of a cell.
(Farrabee, M J. 2007)
But how is insulin made? The production of insulin starts in the nucleus which is the cellular organelle
where the DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) is found. They form a series of multiple linear molecules
which are then folded in the nucleolus in to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The smooth ER is a separate sealed interconnecting network. It is associated in the; metabolism and
production of lipids, steroid and hormone manufacturing, the transport of intracellular products and
detoxification. (BSCB, 2013)
A vesicle is bubble like membranous structure that stores and transports cellular products and digests
metabolic waste in a cell. (Biology Online, 2008)
The golgi complex is a structure composed of flattened sacs known as cisternae. It is involved in the
modification and packaging of proteins, the manufacturing of lysosomes and transport of products via

Exocytosis is the process of how hormones, digestive enzymes and lipids are released from the cell.
Vesicles containing the product pinch off from the sacs of the golgi apparatus and move towards the
plasma membrane. The vesicles then fuse with the plasma membrane and release the product outside
the cell. (CGP, 2009) The cell membrane surrounds all living cells, and is the cell s most important
organelle. It controls how substances can move in and out of the cell and allows cell

Stereotype Threats Of College Students
Stereotype Threats of Undergraduates
Chassydi Turner
Education Psychology
Dr. Sandra Hull
April 23, 2015 Stereotype produces numerous situations when most are negative in nature. Many
studies have been extended since first reported by Steele and Aaronson in earlier years. The term
stereotype threat is a threat that diminishes performances, beginning from a negative stereotype about
one s own social group (Steele, 1997; Steele Aaronson 1995). Stating that stereotypes can harm
performances on tasks that are stereotyped. When being associated with a negative stereotype or being
judged by it, pressure is built to confirm that the stereotype is incorrect. Some stereotypes are
associated with certain types of jobs, which causes stereotype threat to play a role. Several things are
thought to be correlated with stereotypes on performances.
In the research article by (Ihme Moller, 2014) specific questions were being addressed for guiding the
studies. First researchers wanted to determine whether negative stereotypes of college students who
has chosen the career of teaching? Second can the performance of the students is affected by
stereotype threat. The studies were used to determine whether or not stereotype threat affects students
training for a career in teaching. It is important because stereotype threat can have a detrimental effect
on learning and prefaces (Rydell et al., 2010; Taylor Walton, 2011) and also cause students to drop
out. It is hypothesized

The Music Of Grunge Music
Grunge Music
Grunge music was one of the most popular genres in the 1990 s, bringing a new style of rock with
gritty distortion and new styles of hair and clothing. One band some may know that was a popular
grunge band in the 90 s was Nirvana, which consisted of lead singer and guitarist Kurt Cobain,
drummer Dave Grohl, and bassist Krist Novoselic. This band was most popular for their hit album
Nevermind . One of their most popular songs on this album, Smells Like Teen Spirit , has been and
always will be a rebellion anthem for adolescents, empowering them. This message and it s meaning
make this one of the most popular songs by this band to date.
Another popular grunge band from the 90 s, Soundgarden, is infamous for their album, Supermassive
Black Hole , which included the hit Black Hole Sun . This band included members singer Chris
Cornell, drummer Matt Cameron (before going to Pearl Jam), lead guitarist Kim Thayil, and bassist
Hiro Yamamoto.
However, grunge music was not appreciated by everyone. Most adults or elders at that time thought it
was too loud, or that it was devilish music. Even metal and rock bands disapproved of grunge,
including some bands that helped build the genre s popularity. Grunge bands fought for popularity,
which made matters worse. Nirvana s late frontman, Kurt Cobain, made a cruel statement about Pearl
Jam in an interview. He hated the band with a passion. Not because of their popularity, but the style of

A Streetcar Named Desire Alienated Women
Feminine Alienation
Women in today s society strive for equality. However, a century ago, the female gender is treated
very differently. People believed in patriarchy, where women are solely dependent on men. The two
plays, A Doll s House by Henrik Ibsen and A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams, sparked
controversial opinions on the position of women striving for conventional respectability in society.
Nevertheless, if they stand out from their cultural norm, these female characters are often alienated
from their society. Blanche and Nora thought they could live up to the expectations of their
community without being truly happy. In Blanche s case she was not able to accept the fact that her
sister, Stella, was part of a different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, both Stanley and Steve abused their wives and after the violence, the wives accept their
husbands, as if nothing happened. This is how the men show their superiority. This idea is portrayed
from the beginning as Stanley always enjoys the idea of things that are his should be in his control.
For example, his radio, his car, everything that is his, that bears his emblem of gaudy seed bearer .
However, Blanche has been living in Stanley s house, but does not belong to him. Therefore, towards
the end of the play he proves that she is his by raping her. Not only that, his rowdy nature; pulls open ,
jerks out , jerks open , kicks and hurls , is an allusion to how he treats the women in his house. When
Blanche and Stella points out Stanley s barbaric behaviors, Stanley burst into a fit, Remember what
Huey Long said Every Man is a King! And I am the king around here, so don t forget it! He instantly
becomes angry and insulted by the women. He has a big ego and demands respect in his

Why Do Nietzsche Use Apollinian Categories
In the book, The Birth of Tragedy, by Nietzsche, the late 19th century philosopher uses the terms
Dionysian and Apollinian to use them as the two central principles in Greek culture. Apollinian was a
term derived from the God Apollo, which related to the sun, light, and clarity, whereas Dionysian
derived from the God Dionysius, which would often be thought of as the wine God that represented
drunkenness and ecstasy. Nietzsche uses Apollinian as the basis of all analytical distinctions. For this
aspect, all elements that belong to the individuality of man are Apollinian in nature. Furthermore, all
types of structure or form fall under this category because form serves to individualize or define that
which is formed. Consequently, a sculpture ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, this aspect is directly opposed to Apollinian, because just like Apollinian follows an
analytical path, Dionysian, on the other hand, is related to all things that tend to break human
character. Such as madness and drunkenness, as well as all forms of ecstasy and enthusiasm fall under
this category. This is because these aspects of life tend to make man give in to his individuality.
Consequently, it is to no surprise that the German philosopher considered music to be one of the most
Dionysian of all the arts because it appeals to the human s chaotic and instinctive emotions, rather
than his formally reasoning mind. In fact, Nietzsche mentioned, The very element which forms the
essence of Dionysian music (and hence of music in general) is carefully excluded as un Apollinian
namely, the emotional power of the tone, the uniform flow of the melody, and the utterly incomparable
world of harmony. (Nietzsche, 40) Although in essence, Nietzsche did not generally consider music as
Apollinian, interestingly enough, music was not always an element that could be easily categorized in
either Dionysian or Apollinian. Since music can be very fluid, so can the effects that it creates on

Disadvantages Of Drinking Water Bottles
Littering is another problem with these bottles. When people get done using them they just throw them
on the ground, for example, if you go to a ball game and you see everyone drinking Gatorade, soda, or
water and then stay after and you will see all those bottles in the bleachers and on the field from the
players. You start to realize that know one really cares about the environment anyone. Water bottles or
just bottles in general are a big cause on the environment. Although many people do not care, littering
causes a lot of harm to the environment and not many people realize it. Even though drinking bottle
water is widely known as a good choice for your health it comes with great conflicts. Many schools all
around sell bottles of water out of vending machines, although this can be a bad thing for the
environment, but it also helps students from drinking sugary soda. Even though there are benefits to
drinking and using bottled water, there are also many drawbacks. Bottled water can be healthy, but
also just drinking from a water fountain can help yourself and the environment. Not many people want
to drink community fountains because of the germs and all the people that use them. Even though
water is a great need for humans, they normally want to go the easy way; the bottled water way. Water
fountains do have many causes of them, germs that it collects, and some even lack filtration systems.
Bottled water and other plastics can have many effects, although people have

Different Strokes for Different Folks in To Kill a...
Morals are something that everyone has. In To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, the book is full of
morally right people and morally wrong people. Jem is one of the most morally stable children in the
book because he understands what is happening in his community around the time of Tom Robinson s
trial and why it is wrong. He and I share some of the same morals and that is why I picked him as my
character choice. I am a very sensitive person. It s been this way since I could remember. So, I try to
be sensitive to other people s feelings. So, about a month ago, I started going to club volleyball ,but I
signed up late. The first time I went to practice, I expected to take some flack from the girls because I
was the new kid . Surprisingly though, everyone was nice to me except one girl. Her name was Cassie
and she knew everything that had to do with volleyball. As the season progressed on and the new kid
vibe faded, Cassie still made me feel like dirt. I never saw her tell any of the other girls on my team
what to do when they made a mistake and I kind of felt singled out. My mom had picked me up from
and I ranted, and ranted, until my mom stepped in and said, Elon, think about all you just said. You
don t know what she s like except during volleyball. I know for a fact she has problems at home
because her mom told me. I tuned her out halfway through because I was tired of my mom defending

of the reviews I read said that going to a trade school is looked down upon. You can tell on how your
family supported you and if you were looked down upon or not. Also i would like to believe that it
would be very helpful to state how much your annual wage is and what kind of job you do. Is your job
what you expected it to be? Is it harder? What did you have to do to get where your are. Did you have

Essay about New Social Movements, how they arose and...
What factors account for the rise of new social movements and what effect have they had on
contemporary society?
We are all familiar with the stories of suffragettes burning their bras, and environmental enthusiasts
breaking into labs and liberating rats back to the wild. But what caused women to abruptly rip of their
pinnies, tell dad dinner s in the dog and start running around without appropriate underwear? What
caused contented homemakers to leave the cosy warmth of their gas fires in favour of chaining
themselves to trees?
And are such people an eccentric minority, or have they profoundly affected the way we live and think
in the western world today?
To address these questions I will begin by defining New Social Movements (or ... Show more content

The tactical characteristic is the aspect which sets social movements apart from other forms of
political action.
All movements engage in at least some action outside of the institutional or legal channels of political
access. (Lovenduski and Norris, 1996).
There is a diverse range of NSMs fighting for causes from the environment to women to the elderly to
the blacks. For the purposes of this essay I will inspect only a couple in detail, but it should be
retained that they are examples of a bigger wave.
Two of the best known movements are the environmental or Green movement, and the Women s
movement. Both have evolved over the past hundred years into strong and extremely influential
political leagues. Both have the ideological aspect, wanting to change the general public s approach to
their respective causes the environment and equality between sexes. They also have the organisational
factor, with now impressive and far reaching channels of communication. And finally they have the
tactical factor, having utilized many different methods of expressing and arguing their opinions.
The Green movement has distinct personal and public fields, campaigning for specific issues such as
pollution, renewable energy sources while also questioning the basic values of a developed industrial
society which assumes

The United Arab Emirates
The United Arab Emirates, more commonly referred to as the UAE, gained independence from
England in 1971. The late President, Sheikh Zayid bin Sultan al Nahyan, ruled the UAE from the start
of its sovereignty all the way until his death in 2004 (Rugh, 1997, p. 18). Zayid implemented a federal
monarchy across the state. Unlike many other monarchies, the UAE has sustained great rule while
maintaing peace with its people. Many factors influence this trend and without them the regime of the
UAE would most likely fail. The UAE has flourished for nearly 40 years with a ruling governmental
regime where the majority of power is put into the hands of only a select few by disallowing political
parties and restricting political participation (Rugh, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The federal government oversees major state issues such as immigration, foreign policy, public health,
wealth, transportation, and communications (Heard Bey, 2005, p. 361). But the individual emirates
still have great amounts of power over the residents. The emirates each regulate the economy specific
to its land and the money is given back to the citizens (Rugh, 1997, p.17). Although the federal
government holds the most power, the emirates are still allowed to function with a degree of
independence. The familial and traditional roles held by the leaders of the UAE establish a long
lasting legitimacy throughout the state. The current President and ruler of Abu Dubai is Khalifa bin
Zayid Al Nuhayyan, son of the prior ruler. The Prime Minister, Vice President, and Sheikh of Dubai is
Muhammad Bin Rashid Al Maktum (CIA, 2014). Khalifa bin Zayid was never formally elected to
office, rather he was unanimously appointed to the seat on the same day of his father s funeral.
Because of the legacy and respect Sheikh Zayid created, his son entered office with the entire UAE s
support. The UAE functions tremendously through this charismatic and traditional legitimacy; Sheikh
Zayid was looked up to as a god for his 43 year reign of power. In many states this long standing rule
from one family would not be tolerated by the public, yet it works so well in the UAE because Sheikh
Zayid created and guided the state to such high success immediately after gaining

During the second world war, after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the United States involved
themselves in the escalating battle. The war would take many years, as well as resources and soldiers.
Most importantly however, the U.S needed an excellent general to lead the troops. This is where
General George S. Patton comes in and stands center stage, ready to win a war and go down in
American history as one of the greatest generals. Patton was born on the eleventh of November, 1885,

HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT GROUT FOR YOUR TILE
Choosing a different grout color for your tile can add a touch of elegance or a distinct modern flair to
your design.
Grout is more than just the cement that fills and holds your tile together; it is an important element of
the tilework s design. Often disregarded, grout selection is as significant as the tile you select, and it is
the finishing touch that will bring together your unique design.
Grout varieties have expanded over the last decade and nowadays, you can find grout in virtually
every shade and every color to blend or add a little contrast to your tiles. By choosing a different color

Sanded grout is less expensive and should be used if the spaces between the tiles are greater than 1/8
inch. Non sanded or unsanded grouts, tend to cost more and are made specifically for grout lines
smaller than 1/8 inch. Unsanded grout will shrink as it cures and the more grout you have, the more it
will shrink. If you try to fill grout lines that are too wide, the grout will shrink enough to pull away
from the sides of the tile. Make sure to talk with your installer about choosing the right grout for your
specific project.
Tips for Selecting Grout
Install a few pieces of tile on a piece of plywood and add a couple of different colors of grout. Allow it
to properly cure and then place it in the room you are having the tile installed to see how the lighting
affects your choice. When selecting grout colors, keep the following tips in mind:
If you have selected a colored grout, make sure to give it time to cure before making a final decision.
Lighter colored grouts should be sealed, especially in heavy traffic areas and in showers.
Darker colored grouts are better at hiding discolorations and dirt, but can also fade if subjected to

Arthropods are the Major Component in Animal Diversity
Introduction Arthropods appeared in early Cambriand and since the burst, the Cambrian radiation, the
species have been the major component of animal diversity in the past of 520 million years
(Edgecombe, 2010). They are probably the most diverse animals on earth, know species reach almost
one and two hundred milion, accounting for over 80% of animal living species (Thanukos, 2008).
Ranging sizes from less than 1mm and more thand 4m, arthropods vary from herbivores and
carnivores, parasitic and free living, social and solitary, being extreme ubiquitous they can be found
everywhere on the planet, to deepest oceans and highest mountains (Wheeler et al, 2004). Arthropods
possesses a wide range of taxonomic and structural diversity, ancient fossil record and a prefered
model system to study morphogenisis, therefore it could awnser many questions regarding
evolutionary biology (Regier Shultz, 1997). To awnser those questions is required a a phylogenetic
framework. Unfortunally evolutionary relationships among the majorority of arthropods groups are
still controversial (Regier Shultz, 1997). One of the problems of phylogenetic reconstruction of
arthropods is the choice of a outgroup (Giribet Ribera, 1997). Acording to Giribet Ribera (1997) an
outgrup must be historically related to the members of the ingroup. Other problem is about polyphyly
and monophyly and relationships in subphyla Chelicerata, Atelocerata and Crustacea (Regier Shultz,

The Essenes were a Jewish religious group that prospered from the 2nd century BCE to the 1st century

knowledge of the hidden mysteries of nature, which were unknown to others. The Essenes thought
that they were the heirs of God and to their own civilization. They felt that they were sent out on a

considered each to be a stepping stone of a single revelation. They believed that they were able to

Physical Development between the age range of 3 7 years olds
Physical development provides children with the abilities they need to explore and interact with the
world around them. It is also about improving the skills of coordination, control, manipulation and

The physical development of young children must be encouraged through the provision of
opportunities for them to be active and interactive and to improve their skills.

We can then find out if anything has been going on at home and plan activities within school to help
them learn much easier to suit their needs and bring in activities that will stimulate them. Another
reason why children are observed could be because a child has not been very sociable and doesn t
have many friends or any at all. By observing them you can find out what is causing this, and can plan
activities that encourage the children to make friends and work as a team, for example, setting out
chairs in a certain way, then telling each child where to sit so that they don t favour their friends, they
are then encourage to communicate and get involved with the new children around them. As a

The Threat of Nuclear War Since the Cold War
The Threat of Nuclear War Since the Cold War
I partly agree and disagree with the above statement. Nuclear war was at the height of taking place in
the cold war and whilst it has subsided a little since the end it has not yet completely gone. Nuclear
threat is different now then it was in the Twentieth Century, to prove my views I will talk about the
cold war with reference to nuclear threat and what that means today.
At the end of the Second World War, the world was in devastation, Germany has finally been defeated
and a new superpower emerged: United States of America. To examine the threats of nuclear war in

For a while, the US was ahead in the nuclear arms race, but not for long the Soviet Hydrogen bomb
was exploded barely a year later. This pattern went on and on and the USA was ahead most of the
time. It was at this time (when all these destructive weapons were being developed) that the concept of
MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction) came about and many people thought nuclear weapons were
not a threat because of this idea. A population is best protected by leaving it vulnerable to nuclear
attack as long as the opposing side experiences the same level of vulnerability. So, in other words,
whoever shoots first dies second whatever happens. All these nuclear weapons were owned by
powerful countries with precise security measures (though not all the time) and excellent organization.
Also, the kind of threat I am talking about was an event which could spark off a retaliation which
could be nuclear war and human error could also be a threat and this happened many times throughout
the course of the cold war. This is all very different compared to nuclear threat today.

Criminal Justice System Synthesis Essay
According to Introduction To Law Enforcement, The London Metropolitan Act of 1829 was a
government subsidized police force established in 1829, passed by Parliament, and was led by Sir
Robert Peel, after a greater demand for governmental intervention (Doerner, 2016). The sole purpose
of the London Metropolitan Police Act of 1829 was to emphasize on a more organized law
enforcement tactic that works better than current law enforcement methods that had flaws.
Furthermore, society and social control were changing as well as demands for a type of law
enforcement establishment that could possibly ascertain a degree of balance, and that was the first

Peel emphasized that police must have a certain level of organization that reflects the military and
controlled by the government. Peel elaborated that a decrease in crime reflects the effectiveness of
police and communicating with the public regarding crimes are necessary for a police organization to
be effective. Furthermore, response times of police are critical when the public requests their
assistance as well as the amount of force and presence of police is critical to be met only to neutralize
the threat and avoid overkill. Similarly, Peel emphasized the manner of an officer should be that of a
quiet and determined rather than a tempered one. As aforementioned, the presence of an officer can
affect a situation as well as how trained and qualified the officer is. Nonetheless, Peel incorporated an
identifying number for each officer as an identity for the officer and allocated that each police
headquarter should be centrally located and easily accessible to the public. Peel further detailed that
officers should undergo a probationary period and their records reflect their training, history of their
performances as an officer, and possibly holds each officer accountable for all of their actions
(Doerner, 2016). The assumption can be made that Peel s Principles place responsibility on police and
the public as a paradigm of balance (Adegbile,

Malaria is one of the diseases that has caused deaths to many people, more so those living in prone

He finally settles down onto the couch, facing away from the toilet door, waiting. As the bathroom
door opens, he turns to his left, and we only see his left profile (Fig 1.), a mirror image to the first time
he set eyes on Madeleine in the restaurant unsure, and this time, full of anticipation. We are reminded
of the green motif, by the neon light outside Judy s apartment. As Scottie turns around to fully see the
resurrected Madeleine, he slowly stands up and at this point the music starts to pick up, leading us to
the point at which he sees his beloved. The camera tracks into a close up of Scottie s face, with the
green light reflecting off his eye, he almost looks like he has tears in his eyes (Fig 2.). Cut to Judy/
Madeleine stepping out of the toilet, it is Scottie s POV of Madeleine bathed in ghostly green light.
Similar to the scene in the cemetery where Madeleine was shot through a fog filter, which gave her the
green glow, Judy/ Madeleine now had green light superimposed around her body, which gave her the
appearance of a blurred, ghostly figure (Fig 3.). This reflected Madeleine coming back from the dead,
now a ghost, as green is usually used to represent ghost or spirits in film. She then slips out of the blur
and into focus, Hitchcock used this to indicate Scottie s come back to reality, coming to his senses as
he spots the locket in the next scene, realizing that Judy has been tricking him all along (Truffaut,
1985).

Analysis Of Joseph Conrad s The Heart Of Darkness

Female Roles in Joseph Conrad s the Heart of Darkness:
In regards to Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness, many literature reviews focus on the motifs of
Imperialism, the symbolism of darkness and fog, or the aspect of racism in Conrad s work. During the
era which Conrad wrote, England was going through the Victorian Era, which was marked by a shift
in views on morality. The term Victorian morality is used today to describe values which adopt a
social code of conduct in a restrictive way, such as views on sexual restraint and a low tolerance of
crime (Sanders, 2). The Victorian era saw social issues such as child labor and prostitution become
issues which influenced societal views on the roles of women in British society (Sanders, 10). These
social norms shaped men s views on women in general, giving rise to the underlining perceptions of
female purity and the role of women as homemakers. This essay will examine the role that societal
views on women in the 19th century had on Conrad s portrayal of women by the analysis of four sets
of minor characters in his book, Marlow s aunt, the two women knitting outside of the office, The
Intended (Kurtz fiancé), and Kurtz mistress.
Social exclusion became a popular topic among academics debating such topics as poverty and
unemployment. Social exclusion of women is the lack of social integration and power (Young, 1159).
In Conrad s work, he perpetuates the idea that

Essay on Faith in Fear and Trembling by Kierkegaard
Kierkegaard believes that true faith can only be attained through a double movement of giving up
rationality or logic, while at the same time believing one can understand logically. In Fear and
Trembling Kierkegaard relates true faith to the Knight of infinite resignation and the Knight of faith;
in this paper, I will examine this claim and show why Kierkegaard s analogy is an excellent metaphor
for the double movement which is required in one s quest to attain faith and why. Kierkegaard s
position on faith is represented with the Knight of infinite resignation and the Knight of faith. The
Knight of faith is regarded as the one who believes in that which is absurd. For, he is the knight that is

So now, not only is Abraham faced with killing his own son, he is also supposed to still be considered
in a religious context to be sacrificing his son. The Knight of infinite resignation sees this
contradiction, this logical impossibility, and is aware of how this command defies rationality. This
knight accepts that, in this life, his beloved son is going to die and that his hand will be the one to
deliver this task. The main point Kierkegaard makes is when he goes on to say that to have faith, one
must have experienced both of these stages. One must experience the stage of infinite resignation
before being able to attain faith. Infinite resignation is the last stage before faith, so that anyone who
has not made this movement does not have faith (Kierkegaard 75). Kierkegaard goes even further on
to explain why, for only in infinite resignation does my eternal validity become transparent to me, and
only then can there be talk of grasping existence on the strength of faith (75). Kierkegaard s position is
made clear, only after one has had to make a decision from a place contradiction, can one truly have
faith. Faith is not just blindly going along and believing against rationale just because that is what you
have been raised or told to do. He addresses this by describing a young girl, Thus that of a young girl

Essay On Masculinity In Huck Finn
Since the Frontier era in American history masculinity has evolved from simply being an advanced
Neanderthal, someone who is an adventurous, strong, outdoorsman that provides for, and protects his
family to that of a well mannered, kempt aristocrat by the end to turn of the 19th century.
While reading many early Romanticism, Transcendentalism, and Realism works have you ever
noticed authors views are predominantly parallel with the society and time in which they lived?
American authors (men/woman) where thought of as revolutionary with their popular, well noted
works, but their gender ideals stem from society s views rather than their own perceptions. Without
societies stipulations, these early authors could have been even more significant and influential than
they already are thought to be. The most well noted early American authors all have one big,
sometimes unrealized bias. That bias is gender. Authors such as Mark Twain, Walt Whitman, and
Henry James all follow this unintentional norm in the way that they have represented masculinity
through their works. The most popular frontier author, Mark Twain, represents an early and more
simplistic male view through his work The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn . Through Huck s
adventures Twain is able to capture the early, simplistic forms of masculinity. Huck was always

People collected Vermeer s paintings for display throughout their homes. Gitlin sees Vermeer as the

Now it is clear to see why the unemployment rate has been closely monitored all the time, especially
at the time of crisis. The unemployment rate, after reaching its peak in October 2009, has been
declining slowly but steadily, as U.S firms keep adding more jobs to the market. There was a small
increase in unemployment rate in July this year (the Wall Street Journal, Aug 4th, 2014), but the
unemployment rate continues to fall in the following months, and finally in this September, it falls to
5.9 percent, the first time it has been below 6 percent since July 2008 before the financial crisis (The

following reasons. First, according to the Federal Reserve, the natural rate of unemployment in the

unemployment that is inevitable in modern economy as people change their jobs and industries

Nietzsche Pain And Good Will Analysis
There is a belief that pain and good will are closely related to achieving some type of happiness or
fulfillment in one s life. There are many who believe that there must have been some type of great
effort yielding positive outcomes or results after passing through suffering, failure, bad luck, or any
element of pain. Having a good life as characterized by Nietzsche, it fosters a level of discomfort or
reversal between success and achievement because he believed happiness or fulfillment was capable
after failing or experiencing some type of destitution. In other words, a baseball bat was swung to a

Unfortunately, Nietzsche s claim to have a good life does not render absolute fulfillment or happiness
because experiencing hardships or physical or mental pain previous cannot guarantee a person s
fulfillment or happiness. In fact, there are other ways which establish a person s willingness to be
fulfilled that is more reasonable than pain before pleasure. I must disagree with Nietzsche s
philosophical thought that hardship produces or reinforces a better outcome or transition which
manifests a person becoming happier or fulfilled with self. In the YouTube clip, the narrator, Alain de
Botton, described Nietzsche s good life is the result of hardship and pain is where the sense of
fulfillment is originated. De Botton restated that Nietzsche said: any worthwhile achievement was
born out of constant struggle and hard work [and] there was no such straight path to the top. It can
only be exposed through the direct result of unvarying trial and error which certainly is developed as
physical or mental pain. There is no glory unless distress or anguish is confronted from the

Cosmological Argument Research Paper
To what extent does The Cosmological Argument prove the existence of God?
There are many different arguments which attempt to help us understand more about the universe. One
of these arguments is the Cosmological Argument which is essentially an argument which consists of
8 main arguments; things exist because of a cause, these things do not have to exist but they do, the
chain of causes goes back to the beginning of time, time began when the universe was created, there
must have been a first cause which is responsible for everything else including the universe, the first
cause must have a necessary existence, only God has necessary existence, therefore God is the first
cause of the universe s existence. The argument basically puts across ... Show more content on

Scottish philosopher David Hume stated that we have no experience of universes being made. This
shows that one of the biggest flaws with the Cosmological Argument is that we are not Gods and have
never created anything as large or as complex as an entire universe. Hume also maintained that just
because we know that everything has a cause does not mean that we can assume that the universe in
its entirety is a result of something else. This continues his idea of humans being incapable of
understanding issues of such a large scale and that we are wasting our time trying to do so therefore
we should just assume that the universe simply exists because it exists. This theory is very well
thought out, as there is no tangible evidence that there is a single entity which created the universe. A
wise man proportions his belief to the evidence David Hume. The quote shows that Hume would be
not at all convinced with the Cosmological Argument unless solid evidence of a creator were to be
placed before him. This believe it when I see it attitude towards the the Cosmological Argument pokes

Summary Of Albert Camus s The Plague
A Greek philosopher, Thucydides, once said The secret to happiness is freedom... And the secret to
freedom is courage (Thucydides). Albert Camus, much like Nietzsche did not believe that death,
suffering, or the human existence had any underlying moral or rational meaning due to the fact that he
did not believe in God or even an afterlife for that matter. Nietzsche made those who read his Twilight
of the Idols question the very premises of religion and what we think we know. Camus believed that
human beings, as mortals, live under an irrational and an absurd death sentence, never really being
able to live a free and meaningful life. Yet, Camus still believed that people were capable of giving
their lives meaning and finally living their lives freely. In Albert Camus novel The Plague, the people
of Oran believed that they were free, that is true, in the technical definition of freedom, but were they
really free before the plague occured? Perhaps Camus and Nietzsche are asking human beings, how
are they really free if they are living their lives in constant routines and believing in a God that they do
not even know exists or not.
The irony in Albert Camus The Plague is in Camus method of freedom . Much like other human
beings the citizens of Oran were strictly disciplined by an instinctive enslavement to their habitual
routines, prisoners of these routines. Correspondingly, Camus makes readers question whether the
citizens of Oran were really alive, only when they are separated from their friends and families
because due to the quarantine of the plague is when they actually feel the love and need for them,
before the plague, they sadly took their loved ones for granted. Unfortunately, it took for the citizens
to be removed from their significant others to actually see the love they actually feel for one another,
and perhaps after they realize that it is the push they needed to find the meaning and give meaning to
their boring mundane life.
Nietzsche forces readers to cease to believe in the very thing that we base our reasoning on. Take our
morality for instance, humans treat morality like a sacred being, because we believe that there is a
higher celestial being or a God. Humanity is being called into

White Noise Essay
In his award winning novel White Noise, Don DeLillo critically observes and illustrates everyday life
of the postmodern American family. Within this critique, DeLillo examines the pervasiveness of
technology and its unavoidable interaction with the human experience of reality. This technological
influence is dramatized throughout the novel in many ways; for example, one method utilized by
DeLillo to expose the reader to the ubiquity of technology comes from frequent interludes to the text,
which serve little purpose other than to accommodate trivial technological sounds and discourse.
These interjections, coming from technological sources such as household appliances, the radio,
television and vehicles, not only engage the reader in an immediate ... Show more content on

It is through this reorganization and shifting of discourse that technological and scientific discourses
gain enigmatic qualities and perceived authority. This authoritative role of discourse witnessed in the
Gladney family is relation to the Jack s eldest son Heinrich, who embodies an authoritative role in the
family merely because he is the possessor of scientific discourse (Conroy 205). Furthermore, his status
is maintained even though it is impossible to know whether the information Heinrich puts forth is
factual (205). Evidence for this can also be found in the scene at the boy scouts camp, when Jack and
Babette observe Heinrich lecturing information on the toxic event (DeLillo 134). In Conroy s analysis
of this scene, he depicts Heinrich as some form of profit, by likening the scene to Jesus s appearance
in the temple (205). Furthermore, while being a possessor of scientific discourse (and not by
possessing a traditional German name) is the defining feature of Heinrich s character and status, other
members of the Gladney family are also privy to technology s influence on their personal

The s Historical Atlas Of Central Asia
For millennia, civilizations on either side of the Eurasian Continent exchanged both products and
ideas through the complex networks of the Silk Route. Central Asia, given its strategic position on this
route, long served a critical role at the crossroads between East and West. However, while cultures on
both ends of the networks have by and large been extensively researched, Central Asia despite its
centrality is frequently ignored or marginalized; rather than claiming a separate area of study, it
oftentimes retreats to the peripheries of a larger grouping, whether the Islamic world, the Sinosphere,
or the Russian Empire. Yuri Bregel, on the other hand, proposes an alternative perception of the
region. He contends that Central Asia ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Climate is a dominant factor in the development of Central Asian civilizations. In the first map, titled
The Principal Geographical Features and Provinces, Bregel paints the environmental conditions of
each locale with rich details (3). Deserts cast a pervasive presence in the map, limiting both human
movement and patterns of settlement. Because of Central Asia s high aridity, most population centers
lie on the banks of Amu Darya and Sir Darya, the main rivers in the region, as well as their tributaries.
These circumstances, together with the ubiquity of mountains in the south, produce a series of
sedentary provinces such as Ferghana and Khorezm that are relatively isolated from one another.
Furthermore, the deserts act as a natural barrier disjoining the mountain based farming communities
from the vast steppes to their north, where a more temperate climate and flat terrains encourage
nomadic ways of life. Conflicts often arise when the two groups intersect, and the struggle between
sedentary city states and nomadic empires comprises a key theme in the history of Central Asia.
Nowhere is the distinction between the two categories more apparent than in the drawing of political
boundaries. Bregel explains in the preface that various Central Asian states knew to protect their

G-protein-coupled receptors, also called GPCRs, form the...
G protein coupled receptors, also called GPCRs, form the largest receptor family among cell surface
proteins 1. This receptor family is large in size and very diverse, especially in mammalian genomes 2.
In simple terms, GPCRs are used for cellular communication 1. These receptors still need extensive
research since they are such a large, diverse group. More so, continued research can benefit humans
when it comes to pharmaceuticals. GPCRs are key when it comes to cells converting external signals
into the correct intracellular signals 1. There is more than 800 GPCRs within the human genome. They
are responsible for many of our everyday experiences. For example: some our senses (taste, vision,
and smell), fight or flight responses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pheromones are molecules released to convey social or sexual cues, done through individuals of the
same species 5. A hormone is a chemical carried via blood to another part of the body (not where it
was synthesized) where it can affect cellular activity 3. With a wide range of ligands that can be used
in the initial step we can see why so many things in our everyday experiences are controlled by
GPCRs. There are hundreds of different GPCRs that control a range of functions within the body. An
example of a GPCR is rhodopsin and protease activated receptors (PARs). Rhodopsin, a 7
transmembrane (7TM), activates the retinol molecule that is covalently linked in the TM cavity 1.
Rhodopsin does this by changing the configuration to activate the receptor; it changes from cis to trans
1. PAR is a family of 4 GPCRs that activate important signaling pathways 7. PARs activate signaling
pathways that deal with the following: survival, morphology, release of neurotransmitters, and activity
of ion channels 7. GPCRs are essential in numerous processes through the body (i.e. immunological
function and normal cell growth) 1. Therefore, pharmaceutical drugs are known to target these G
protein coupled receptors and this is expected to increase with our knowledge of GPCRs. Cimetidine
is one GPCR drug that blocks the action of Beta adrenergic receptors (βARs) and H2 histamine

The Maltese Islands are a group of small and low islands that are aligned in a North West South East
direction in the central Mediterranean Sea. The Islands occupy an area of 316km². They are situated
on a shallow shelf, the Malta Ragusa rise and towards the south to the African coasts of Tripoli and

The landscapes are divided into two categories; the semi natural and man mad landscapes. In the semi
natural landscape there is very little evidence of human activity while on the manmade landscape, the
influence of man is evident from the widespread terracing of sloping land, and the creation of made
ground through soil material and the deposition on rock or rubble walls. Maltese soil is characterized
by the close similarity to the parent rock material and the Maltese soil is classified into three main
groups. The Terra soil which is also known as the Red Mediterranean soil, the Xerorendzinas and the
Carbonate Raw soil. The Terra soils are formed during the Pleistocene and are little effected by the
climate and develop on karstland. The Xerorendzinas are immature soils with high calcium carbonate
content and are low in organic matter. This type of soil is mostly found on weathered Globigerina
Limestone and is also found on valley deposits. Another immature soil is the Carbonate Raw Soils and
this have a high calcium carbonate content and is also low in organic matter, same as the
Xerorendzinas. These develop on quaternary sandstones, Greensand, Blue Clay, Globigerina limestone
and also on the lower beds of the Upper Coralline Limestone.
The three groups of soils were then divided into seven soil reference groups according to the MALSIS
database. There are the

Job Consolidation Is A Great Idea For Suncoast Hotel
We at White Board Consulting believe that job consolidation is a great idea for SunCoast Hotel (SCH)
to help solve their current scheduling problems and help management transition during the expansion.
Further, this job consolidation approach can help prevent problems that might arise in the future.
Having a Guest Service Staff (GSS) position will allow these employees to be more efficient in their
day to day operations since they will be able to function within in each department of the hotel. Idle
time for employees will also be reduced because instead of just being confined to only completing
tasks one department, the GSS is will be able multitask in different department. Management will also
have a flexibility of moving employees from department to department without having to use time and
labor retain employees.
Having a Guest Service Staff might also be a beneficial position in the long run for the SunCoast
Hotel. Currently there is is a 35 percent average turnover rate for hotel employees; 10 percent is
through natural attrition. If employees are being used more efficiently and given a wide range of task
to complete, WB consulting believes that this turnover rate will decrease due to a positive increase in
affective commitment. Engaging the employees more and setting up a healthy relationship with
management, we believe, will have a very strong positive impact for job satisfaction. Employees will
see the big picture and see how their work directly effects that,

The Importance Of Insect Population In Germany
Current Event: Week Eight According to an Off The Grid news site, the insect population in Germany
has decreased significantly in the last few decades. Nearly seventy five percent of the insects in the
nature reserves have been wiped out, leaving only twenty five percent left. Due to this significant
decrease, it is expected for the food web to be widely affected since many other animals rely on these
insects as a source of food. One of the insects that are dying out is the honeybee, which can affect
humans since these bees are needed to pollinate crops. Honeybees are a major pollinator of our food
crops such as almonds, apples, cantaloupes, cranberries, cherries, sunflowers, cucumbers, watermelon
and much more. They contribute to our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Ramstad, Alegra was put into detention because of a threat made to another student,
which was a complete misunderstanding. Alegra was simply sticking up for herself after being bullied
by the same student for the past year (9 News). As a result of the incident, the parents decided to hire
an attorney named Igor Raykin and may file a lawsuit against the school for the traumatization of their
daughter. Soon after the Douglas County School District General Counsel provided a statement to the
community mentioning that the safety and well being of the students are a top priority. They also
discussed how the detention room allows freedom for students to work on their homework and leave
the room when needed. However, this freedom was not demonstrated when Ramstad arrived at the
school to see her daughter in one of the rooms. The incident sparks controversy of the school s
treatment of children and brings up the question of how many other children were put into this cell
and if these children s parents were aware of this occurrence. If so, a lawsuit should be filed against
the school against those parents as well. It is sad to see the actions this elementary school decided to
take in order to fix these children s behavioral issues or in this case a misunderstood situation.
Hopefully, this news story will help the school realize their idea of detention is inhumane and
degrading.

  • 2. How Organelles Work Together to Make and Secrete the... Human Biology Unit 1 Assignment The human body is made up of 100 trillion cells. All cells have the same basic structure (see figure 1) however some cells are specialised to suit a specific purpose. An example of this is the pancreatic beta cells found in the islets of Langerhans. These cells are specialised to synthesise the protein insulin that is involved in the metabolism of glucose in the cells. (Layden, 2010) Figure 1 Picture to show basic structure of a cell. (Farrabee, M J. 2007) But how is insulin made? The production of insulin starts in the nucleus which is the cellular organelle where the DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) is found. They form a series of multiple linear molecules which are then folded in the nucleolus in to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Vesicles containing the product pinch off from the sacs of the golgi apparatus and move towards the plasma membrane. The vesicles then fuse with the plasma membrane and release the product outside the cell. (CGP, 2009) The cell membrane surrounds all living cells, and is the cell s most important organelle. • 3. Stereotype Threats Of College Students Stereotype Threats of Undergraduates Chassydi Turner Education Psychology Dr. Sandra Hull April 23, 2015 Stereotype produces numerous situations when most are negative in nature. Many studies have been extended since first reported by Steele and Aaronson in earlier years. The term stereotype threat is a threat that diminishes performances, beginning from a negative stereotype about one s own social group (Steele, 1997; Steele Aaronson 1995). Stating that stereotypes can harm performances on tasks that are stereotyped. When being associated with a negative stereotype or being judged by it, pressure is built to confirm that the stereotype is incorrect. Some stereotypes are associated with certain types of jobs, which causes stereotype threat to play a role. Several things are thought to be correlated with stereotypes on performances. In the research article by (Ihme Moller, 2014) specific questions were being addressed for guiding the studies. First researchers wanted to determine whether negative stereotypes of college students who has chosen the career of teaching? Second can the performance of the students is affected by stereotype threat. The studies were used to determine whether or not stereotype threat affects students training for a career in teaching. It is important because stereotype threat can have a detrimental effect on learning and prefaces (Rydell et al., 2010; Taylor Walton, 2011) and also cause students to drop out. It is hypothesized ... • 4. The Music Of Grunge Music Grunge Music Grunge music was one of the most popular genres in the 1990 s, bringing a new style of rock with gritty distortion and new styles of hair and clothing. One band some may know that was a popular grunge band in the 90 s was Nirvana, which consisted of lead singer and guitarist Kurt Cobain, drummer Dave Grohl, and bassist Krist Novoselic. This band was most popular for their hit album Nevermind . One of their most popular songs on this album, Smells Like Teen Spirit , has been and always will be a rebellion anthem for adolescents, empowering them. This message and it s meaning make this one of the most popular songs by this band to date. Another popular grunge band from the 90 s, Soundgarden, is infamous for their album, Supermassive Black Hole , which included the hit Black Hole Sun . This band included members singer Chris Cornell, drummer Matt Cameron (before going to Pearl Jam), lead guitarist Kim Thayil, and bassist Hiro Yamamoto. However, grunge music was not appreciated by everyone. Most adults or elders at that time thought it was too loud, or that it was devilish music. Even metal and rock bands disapproved of grunge, including some bands that helped build the genre s popularity. Grunge bands fought for popularity, which made matters worse. Nirvana s late frontman, Kurt Cobain, made a cruel statement about Pearl Jam in an interview. He hated the band with a passion. Not because of their popularity, but the style of their ... • 5. A Streetcar Named Desire Alienated Women Feminine Alienation Women in today s society strive for equality. However, a century ago, the female gender is treated very differently. People believed in patriarchy, where women are solely dependent on men. The two plays, A Doll s House by Henrik Ibsen and A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams, sparked controversial opinions on the position of women striving for conventional respectability in society. Nevertheless, if they stand out from their cultural norm, these female characters are often alienated from their society. Blanche and Nora thought they could live up to the expectations of their community without being truly happy. For instance, both Stanley and Steve abused their wives and after the violence, the wives accept their husbands, as if nothing happened. This is how the men show their superiority. For example, his radio, his car, everything that is his, that bears his emblem of gaudy seed bearer . However, Blanche has been living in Stanley s house, but does not belong to him. Therefore, towards the end of the play he proves that she is his by raping her. Not only that, his rowdy nature; pulls open , jerks out , jerks open , kicks and hurls , is an allusion to how he treats the women in his house. When Blanche and Stella points out Stanley s barbaric behaviors, Stanley burst into a fit, Remember what Huey Long said Every Man is a King! And I am the king around here, so don t forget it! • 6. Why Do Nietzsche Use Apollinian Categories In the book, The Birth of Tragedy, by Nietzsche, the late 19th century philosopher uses the terms Dionysian and Apollinian to use them as the two central principles in Greek culture. Apollinian was a term derived from the God Apollo, which related to the sun, light, and clarity, whereas Dionysian derived from the God Dionysius, which would often be thought of as the wine God that represented drunkenness and ecstasy. Nietzsche uses Apollinian as the basis of all analytical distinctions. For this aspect, all elements that belong to the individuality of man are Apollinian in nature. Furthermore, all types of structure or form fall under this category because form serves to individualize or define that which is formed. Consequently, a sculpture ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, this aspect is directly opposed to Apollinian, because just like Apollinian follows an analytical path, Dionysian, on the other hand, is related to all things that tend to break human character. Such as madness and drunkenness, as well as all forms of ecstasy and enthusiasm fall under this category. This is because these aspects of life tend to make man give in to his individuality. Consequently, it is to no surprise that the German philosopher considered music to be one of the most Dionysian of all the arts because it appeals to the human s chaotic and instinctive emotions, rather than his formally reasoning mind. In fact, Nietzsche mentioned, The very element which forms the essence of Dionysian music (and hence of music in general) is carefully excluded as un Apollinian namely, the emotional power of the tone, the uniform flow of the melody, and the utterly incomparable world of harmony. (Nietzsche, 40) Although in essence, Nietzsche did not generally consider music as Apollinian, interestingly enough, music was not always an element that could be easily categorized in either Dionysian or Apollinian. • 7. Disadvantages Of Drinking Water Bottles Littering is another problem with these bottles. When people get done using them they just throw them on the ground, for example, if you go to a ball game and you see everyone drinking Gatorade, soda, or water and then stay after and you will see all those bottles in the bleachers and on the field from the players. You start to realize that know one really cares about the environment anyone. Water bottles or just bottles in general are a big cause on the environment. Although many people do not care, littering causes a lot of harm to the environment and not many people realize it. Even though drinking bottle water is widely known as a good choice for your health it comes with great conflicts. Many schools all around sell bottles of water out of vending machines, although this can be a bad thing for the environment, but it also helps students from drinking sugary soda. Even though there are benefits to drinking and using bottled water, there are also many drawbacks. Bottled water can be healthy, but also just drinking from a water fountain can help yourself and the environment. Not many people want to drink community fountains because of the germs and all the people that use them. Even though water is a great need for humans, they normally want to go the easy way; the bottled water way. Water fountains do have many causes of them, germs that it collects, and some even lack filtration systems. Bottled water and other plastics can have many effects, although people have ... In To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, the book is full of morally right people and morally wrong people. Jem is one of the most morally stable children in the book because he understands what is happening in his community around the time of Tom Robinson s trial and why it is wrong. He and I share some of the same morals and that is why I picked him as my character choice. I am a very sensitive person. It s been this way since I could remember. So, I try to be sensitive to other people s feelings. So, about a month ago, I started going to club volleyball ,but I signed up late. The first time I went to practice, I expected to take some flack from the girls because I was the new kid . Surprisingly though, everyone was nice to me except one girl. Her name was Cassie and she knew everything that had to do with volleyball. As the season progressed on and the new kid vibe faded, Cassie still made me feel like dirt. I never saw her tell any of the other girls on my team what to do when they made a mistake and I kind of felt singled out. My mom had picked me up from and I ranted, and ranted, until my mom stepped in and said, Elon, think about all you just said. You don t know what she s like except during volleyball. • 10. Essay about New Social Movements, how they arose and... What factors account for the rise of new social movements and what effect have they had on contemporary society? We are all familiar with the stories of suffragettes burning their bras, and environmental enthusiasts breaking into labs and liberating rats back to the wild. But what caused women to abruptly rip of their pinnies, tell dad dinner s in the dog and start running around without appropriate underwear? What caused contented homemakers to leave the cosy warmth of their gas fires in favour of chaining themselves to trees? And are such people an eccentric minority, or have they profoundly affected the way we live and think in the western world today? To address these questions I will begin by defining New Social Movements (or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All movements engage in at least some action outside of the institutional or legal channels of political access. (Lovenduski and Norris, 1996). There is a diverse range of NSMs fighting for causes from the environment to women to the elderly to the blacks. For the purposes of this essay I will inspect only a couple in detail, but it should be retained that they are examples of a bigger wave. Two of the best known movements are the environmental or Green movement, and the Women s movement. Both have evolved over the past hundred years into strong and extremely influential political leagues. Both have the ideological aspect, wanting to change the general public s approach to their respective causes the environment and equality between sexes. They also have the organisational factor, with now impressive and far reaching channels of communication. And finally they have the tactical factor, having utilized many different methods of expressing and arguing their opinions. • 11. The United Arab Emirates The United Arab Emirates, more commonly referred to as the UAE, gained independence from England in 1971. The late President, Sheikh Zayid bin Sultan al Nahyan, ruled the UAE from the start of its sovereignty all the way until his death in 2004 (Rugh, 1997, p. 18). Zayid implemented a federal monarchy across the state. Unlike many other monarchies, the UAE has sustained great rule while maintaing peace with its people. Many factors influence this trend and without them the regime of the UAE would most likely fail. The UAE has flourished for nearly 40 years with a ruling governmental regime where the majority of power is put into the hands of only a select few by disallowing political parties and restricting political participation (Rugh, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The federal government oversees major state issues such as immigration, foreign policy, public health, wealth, transportation, and communications (Heard Bey, 2005, p. 361). But the individual emirates still have great amounts of power over the residents. The emirates each regulate the economy specific to its land and the money is given back to the citizens (Rugh, 1997, p.17). Although the federal government holds the most power, the emirates are still allowed to function with a degree of independence. The familial and traditional roles held by the leaders of the UAE establish a long lasting legitimacy throughout the state. The current President and ruler of Abu Dubai is Khalifa bin Zayid Al Nuhayyan, son of the prior ruler. The Prime Minister, Vice President, and Sheikh of Dubai is Muhammad Bin Rashid Al Maktum (CIA, 2014). Khalifa bin Zayid was never formally elected to office, rather he was unanimously appointed to the seat on the same day of his father s funeral. Because of the legacy and respect Sheikh Zayid created, his son entered office with the entire UAE s support. The UAE functions tremendously through this charismatic and traditional legitimacy; Sheikh Zayid was looked up to as a god for his 43 year reign of power. In many states this long standing rule from one family would not be tolerated by the public, yet it works so well in the UAE because Sheikh Zayid created and guided the state to such high success immediately after gaining ... • 17. Arthropods are the Major Component in Animal Diversity Introduction Arthropods appeared in early Cambriand and since the burst, the Cambrian radiation, the species have been the major component of animal diversity in the past of 520 million years (Edgecombe, 2010). They are probably the most diverse animals on earth, know species reach almost one and two hundred milion, accounting for over 80% of animal living species (Thanukos, 2008). Ranging sizes from less than 1mm and more thand 4m, arthropods vary from herbivores and carnivores, parasitic and free living, social and solitary, being extreme ubiquitous they can be found everywhere on the planet, to deepest oceans and highest mountains (Wheeler et al, 2004). Arthropods possesses a wide range of taxonomic and structural diversity, ancient fossil record and a prefered model system to study morphogenisis, therefore it could awnser many questions regarding evolutionary biology (Regier Shultz, 1997). To awnser those questions is required a a phylogenetic framework. Unfortunally evolutionary relationships among the majorority of arthropods groups are still controversial (Regier Shultz, 1997). One of the problems of phylogenetic reconstruction of arthropods is the choice of a outgroup (Giribet Ribera, 1997). Acording to Giribet Ribera (1997) an outgrup must be historically related to the members of the ingroup. Other problem is about polyphyly and monophyly and relationships in subphyla Chelicerata, Atelocerata and Crustacea (Regier Shultz, 1997). With advancements in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Of Joseph Conrad s The Heart Of Darkness Ally Jones Professor Smith English 1302 November 18, 2014 Female Roles in Joseph Conrad s the Heart of Darkness: In regards to Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness, many literature reviews focus on the motifs of Imperialism, the symbolism of darkness and fog, or the aspect of racism in Conrad s work. During the era which Conrad wrote, England was going through the Victorian Era, which was marked by a shift in views on morality. The term Victorian morality is used today to describe values which adopt a social code of conduct in a restrictive way, such as views on sexual restraint and a low tolerance of crime (Sanders, 2). The Victorian era saw social issues such as child labor and prostitution become issues which influenced societal views on the roles of women in British society (Sanders, 10). These social norms shaped men s views on women in general, giving rise to the underlining perceptions of female purity and the role of women as homemakers. This essay will examine the role that societal views on women in the 19th century had on Conrad s portrayal of women by the analysis of four sets of minor characters in his book, Marlow s aunt, the two women knitting outside of the office, The Intended (Kurtz fiancé), and Kurtz mistress. So now, not only is Abraham faced with killing his own son, he is also supposed to still be considered in a religious context to be sacrificing his son. The Knight of infinite resignation sees this contradiction, this logical impossibility, and is aware of how this command defies rationality. This knight accepts that, in this life, his beloved son is going to die and that his hand will be the one to deliver this task. The main point Kierkegaard makes is when he goes on to say that to have faith, one must have experienced both of these stages. One must experience the stage of infinite resignation before being able to attain faith. Infinite resignation is the last stage before faith, so that anyone who has not made this movement does not have faith (Kierkegaard 75). Kierkegaard goes even further on to explain why, for only in infinite resignation does my eternal validity become transparent to me, and only then can there be talk of grasping existence on the strength of faith (75). Kierkegaard s position is made clear, only after one has had to make a decision from a place contradiction, can one truly have faith. Essay On Masculinity In Huck Finn Since the Frontier era in American history masculinity has evolved from simply being an advanced Neanderthal, someone who is an adventurous, strong, outdoorsman that provides for, and protects his family to that of a well mannered, kempt aristocrat by the end to turn of the 19th century. While reading many early Romanticism, Transcendentalism, and Realism works have you ever noticed authors views are predominantly parallel with the society and time in which they lived? American authors (men/woman) where thought of as revolutionary with their popular, well noted works, but their gender ideals stem from society s views rather than their own perceptions. Without societies stipulations, these early authors could have been even more significant and influential than they already are thought to be. The most well noted early American authors all have one big, sometimes unrealized bias. That bias is gender. Unemployment Rate Kaimeng Xing Analysis on U.S. Unemployment Rate Econ 2002.03H Nov. 9th, 2014 Since the financial crisis in 2008, U.S. unemployment rate has been an issue of importance and public concern. Why? Because the unemployment reflects current economic situation and people s well being in general. In this analysis, I will briefly discuss the definition of unemployment and the impact of high and persistent unemployment. Then I will analyze the trend of U.S. unemployment rate of recent months. I will also discuss different theories that explain the current trend of unemployment, some concerns and implications regarding the unemployment rate. Now it is clear to see why the unemployment rate has been closely monitored all the time, especially at the time of crisis. The unemployment rate, after reaching its peak in October 2009, has been declining slowly but steadily, as U.S firms keep adding more jobs to the market. There was a small increase in unemployment rate in July this year (the Wall Street Journal, Aug 4th, 2014), but the unemployment rate continues to fall in the following months, and finally in this September, it falls to 5.9 percent, the first time it has been below 6 percent since July 2008 before the financial crisis (The Huffington Post, Oct 3rd, 2014). In October, the employment continues to drop, reaching 5.8 percent at the end of the month (BBC, Nov. 2014). Most of people are excited about this falling trend of the unemployment rate, believing that falling unemployment rate is a sign of economic growth for the following reasons. First, according to the Federal Reserve, the natural rate of unemployment in the United States is estimated to be 5.2 percent to 5.5 percent. Natural rate of unemployment is unemployment that is inevitable in modern economy as people change their jobs and industries emerge and fade away. Achieving the natural rate of unemployment is considered as an indicator of a well functioning, healthy and efficient economy. An unemployment rate that is approaching the natural rate of unemployment provides a strong argument of economic recovery. Second, the textbook ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. Nietzsche Pain And Good Will Analysis There is a belief that pain and good will are closely related to achieving some type of happiness or fulfillment in one s life. There are many who believe that there must have been some type of great effort yielding positive outcomes or results after passing through suffering, failure, bad luck, or any element of pain. Having a good life as characterized by Nietzsche, it fosters a level of discomfort or reversal between success and achievement because he believed happiness or fulfillment was capable after failing or experiencing some type of destitution. In other words, a baseball bat was swung to a person s head by the accomplice, causing severe pain because that person failed to steal the bubble gum from the grocery store since they had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unfortunately, Nietzsche s claim to have a good life does not render absolute fulfillment or happiness because experiencing hardships or physical or mental pain previous cannot guarantee a person s fulfillment or happiness. In fact, there are other ways which establish a person s willingness to be fulfilled that is more reasonable than pain before pleasure. I must disagree with Nietzsche s philosophical thought that hardship produces or reinforces a better outcome or transition which manifests a person becoming happier or fulfilled with self. In the YouTube clip, the narrator, Alain de Botton, described Nietzsche s good life is the result of hardship and pain is where the sense of fulfillment is originated. De Botton restated that Nietzsche said: any worthwhile achievement was born out of constant struggle and hard work [and] there was no such straight path to the top. It can only be exposed through the direct result of unvarying trial and error which certainly is developed as physical or mental pain. • 39. Cosmological Argument Research Paper To what extent does The Cosmological Argument prove the existence of God? There are many different arguments which attempt to help us understand more about the universe. One of these arguments is the Cosmological Argument which is essentially an argument which consists of 8 main arguments; things exist because of a cause, these things do not have to exist but they do, the chain of causes goes back to the beginning of time, time began when the universe was created, there must have been a first cause which is responsible for everything else including the universe, the first cause must have a necessary existence, only God has necessary existence, therefore God is the first cause of the universe s existence. The argument basically puts across ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Scottish philosopher David Hume stated that we have no experience of universes being made. This shows that one of the biggest flaws with the Cosmological Argument is that we are not Gods and have never created anything as large or as complex as an entire universe. Hume also maintained that just because we know that everything has a cause does not mean that we can assume that the universe in its entirety is a result of something else. This continues his idea of humans being incapable of understanding issues of such a large scale and that we are wasting our time trying to do so therefore we should just assume that the universe simply exists because it exists. This theory is very well thought out, as there is no tangible evidence that there is a single entity which created the universe. A wise man proportions his belief to the evidence David Hume. The quote shows that Hume would be not at all convinced with the Cosmological Argument unless solid evidence of a creator were to be placed before him. • 40. Summary Of Albert Camus s The Plague A Greek philosopher, Thucydides, once said The secret to happiness is freedom... And the secret to freedom is courage (Thucydides). Albert Camus, much like Nietzsche did not believe that death, suffering, or the human existence had any underlying moral or rational meaning due to the fact that he did not believe in God or even an afterlife for that matter. Nietzsche made those who read his Twilight of the Idols question the very premises of religion and what we think we know. Camus believed that human beings, as mortals, live under an irrational and an absurd death sentence, never really being able to live a free and meaningful life. Yet, Camus still believed that people were capable of giving their lives meaning and finally living their lives freely. In Albert Camus novel The Plague, the people of Oran believed that they were free, that is true, in the technical definition of freedom, but were they really free before the plague occured? Perhaps Camus and Nietzsche are asking human beings, how are they really free if they are living their lives in constant routines and believing in a God that they do not even know exists or not. The irony in Albert Camus The Plague is in Camus method of freedom . Much like other human beings the citizens of Oran were strictly disciplined by an instinctive enslavement to their habitual routines, prisoners of these routines. Correspondingly, Camus makes readers question whether the citizens of Oran were really alive, only when they are separated from their friends and families because due to the quarantine of the plague is when they actually feel the love and need for them, before the plague, they sadly took their loved ones for granted. Unfortunately, it took for the citizens to be removed from their significant others to actually see the love they actually feel for one another, and perhaps after they realize that it is the push they needed to find the meaning and give meaning to their boring mundane life. Nietzsche forces readers to cease to believe in the very thing that we base our reasoning on. Take our morality for instance, humans treat morality like a sacred being, because we believe that there is a higher celestial being or a God. Humanity is being called into ... • 41. White Noise Essay In his award winning novel White Noise, Don DeLillo critically observes and illustrates everyday life of the postmodern American family. Within this critique, DeLillo examines the pervasiveness of technology and its unavoidable interaction with the human experience of reality. This technological influence is dramatized throughout the novel in many ways; for example, one method utilized by DeLillo to expose the reader to the ubiquity of technology comes from frequent interludes to the text, which serve little purpose other than to accommodate trivial technological sounds and discourse. These interjections, coming from technological sources such as household appliances, the radio, television and vehicles, not only engage the reader in an immediate ... This authoritative role of discourse witnessed in the Gladney family is relation to the Jack s eldest son Heinrich, who embodies an authoritative role in the family merely because he is the possessor of scientific discourse (Conroy 205). Furthermore, his status is maintained even though it is impossible to know whether the information Heinrich puts forth is factual (205). Evidence for this can also be found in the scene at the boy scouts camp, when Jack and Babette observe Heinrich lecturing information on the toxic event (DeLillo 134). In Conroy s analysis of this scene, he depicts Heinrich as some form of profit, by likening the scene to Jesus s appearance in the temple (205). Central Asia, given its strategic position on this route, long served a critical role at the crossroads between East and West. However, while cultures on both ends of the networks have by and large been extensively researched, Central Asia despite its centrality is frequently ignored or marginalized; rather than claiming a separate area of study, it oftentimes retreats to the peripheries of a larger grouping, whether the Islamic world, the Sinosphere, or the Russian Empire. Climate is a dominant factor in the development of Central Asian civilizations. In the first map, titled The Principal Geographical Features and Provinces, Bregel paints the environmental conditions of each locale with rich details (3). Deserts cast a pervasive presence in the map, limiting both human movement and patterns of settlement. Because of Central Asia s high aridity, most population centers lie on the banks of Amu Darya and Sir Darya, the main rivers in the region, as well as their tributaries. These circumstances, together with the ubiquity of mountains in the south, produce a series of sedentary provinces such as Ferghana and Khorezm that are relatively isolated from one another. Furthermore, the deserts act as a natural barrier disjoining the mountain based farming communities from the vast steppes to their north, where a more temperate climate and flat terrains encourage nomadic ways of life. Conflicts often arise when the two groups intersect, and the struggle between sedentary city states and nomadic empires comprises a key theme in the history of Central Asia. Nowhere is the distinction between the two categories more apparent than in the drawing of political boundaries. This receptor family is large in size and very diverse, especially in mammalian genomes 2. In simple terms, GPCRs are used for cellular communication 1. These receptors still need extensive research since they are such a large, diverse group. More so, continued research can benefit humans when it comes to pharmaceuticals. GPCRs are key when it comes to cells converting external signals into the correct intracellular signals 1. There is more than 800 GPCRs within the human genome. They are responsible for many of our everyday experiences. For example: some our senses (taste, vision, and smell), fight or flight responses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pheromones are molecules released to convey social or sexual cues, done through individuals of the same species 5. A hormone is a chemical carried via blood to another part of the body (not where it was synthesized) where it can affect cellular activity 3. With a wide range of ligands that can be used in the initial step we can see why so many things in our everyday experiences are controlled by GPCRs. There are hundreds of different GPCRs that control a range of functions within the body. An example of a GPCR is rhodopsin and protease activated receptors (PARs). Rhodopsin, a 7 transmembrane (7TM), activates the retinol molecule that is covalently linked in the TM cavity 1. Rhodopsin does this by changing the configuration to activate the receptor; it changes from cis to trans 1. PAR is a family of 4 GPCRs that activate important signaling pathways 7. PARs activate signaling pathways that deal with the following: survival, morphology, release of neurotransmitters, and activity of ion channels 7. GPCRs are essential in numerous processes through the body (i.e. immunological function and normal cell growth) 1. Therefore, pharmaceutical drugs are known to target these G protein coupled receptors and this is expected to increase with our knowledge of GPCRs. Cimetidine is one GPCR drug that blocks the action of Beta adrenergic receptors (βARs) and H2 histamine ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Having a Guest Service Staff (GSS) position will allow these employees to be more efficient in their day to day operations since they will be able to function within in each department of the hotel. Idle time for employees will also be reduced because instead of just being confined to only completing tasks one department, the GSS is will be able multitask in different department. Management will also have a flexibility of moving employees from department to department without having to use time and labor retain employees. Having a Guest Service Staff might also be a beneficial position in the long run for the SunCoast Hotel. The incident sparks controversy of the school s treatment of children and brings up the question of how many other children were put into this cell and if these children s parents were aware of this occurrence.
