more likely to receive suboptimal care in this setting, compared to Whites (1).
Blacks are also more likely to be admitted to poorer quality NH s than Whites (2).
There also tend to be racial disparities in psychosocial well being among NH
residents, as determined by lower social engagement among Blacks versus Whites
(3). These findings are particularly alarming provided that the proportion of Blacks
aged 65 and older who live in NH s has increased dramatically, while the number of
Whites in NH s has declined (4).
Multiple factors contribute to the disparities between Blacks and Whites in NH care
quality. One such factor is the lack of regulatory practices to curb racial discrimination
in this setting. This paper will propose a policy that aims to enforce and penalize
Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) funded NH s that are in
violation of current anti discriminatory laws. The proposed policy would be passed
and implemented at the federal government level, however it would also require
cooperation from public, state agencies.

In this course, I discovered many new things and expanded my knowledge as I
learned about animal emotions, their representation in the media, their moral status
and more. When reflecting back over the wide array of topics covered in the
course, there were two areas that resonated strongly for me and made me reconsider
my own views. The first was the discussion of the hierarchy of animal rankings and
how that affects their treatment. The second was the exploration of the capacity
animals have to feel emotions and their anatomical similarities to humans. In the

Animals may experience different emotions and express their emotions differently
however differences between emotions in animals, humans and non human animals,
are by degree and not kind, as argued by Darwin (Bekoff, 2000). Despite these
commonalities, humans do not treat all animals equally, for example in most cases a

rank animals and modify treatment towards them based on these rankings. Mark

Virtue ethics is a normative theory whose foundations were laid by Aristotle. This
theory approaches normative ethics in substantially different ways than
consequentialist and deontological theories. In this essay, I will contrast and compare
virtue ethics to utilitarianism, ethical egoism, and Kantianism to demonstrate these
differences. There is one fundamental aspect of virtue ethics that sets it apart from
the other theories I will discuss. For the sake of brevity and to avoid redundancy, I
will address it separately. This is the fundamental difference between acting ethically
within utilitarianism, egoism, and Kantianism. And being ethical within virtue
ethics. The other theories seek to define the ethics of actions while virtue ethics

campaigns have taken place. Newspapers, radio, television, internet and social media
websites have changed the ways we all have experienced elections. Between 1960
and today, there have been many milestones in mass media and the way it has been
presented to us. In the 1960 s television sets were becoming very popular in many
households across America. The first televised presidential debate took place on
September 26, 1960. 1963: Polls show more Americans report that they rely on

information, this was a major milestone in how information was gathered and
perceived. Also in the 1960 s the first stages of development of the internet began.
Early computers were also being produced. This had set the stage for upcoming
years in technology that would affect the experience of presidential elections by all.
In the 1970 s many more transformations were happening in media. The development
of the internet was still underway and won t become readily available until the 90 s

Toastmasters International is a non profit organization that helps members learn new
skills that improve their communication, public speaking, and leadership skills.
Back in 1903, during Ralph C Smedly s time at the YMCA in Bloomington, IL, he
saw a need for social clubs that concentrated on public speaking and communications
skills. This would help communities work together when conducting meetings or
planning programs. Many people responded positively and he named the club
toastmasters after the designated person who usually gives speeches or toasts at
special occasions. The first unofficial meeting was on March 24, 1905, where
Smedley and the other more experienced gentlemen would evaluate the skills of the
younger men from the community. However, after a time Smedley was invited to
work in the newly organized YMCA in Santa Ana, California in 1922. Due to this,
the club began to extinguish in Bloomington, but Smedly held onto his idea and
introduced it in Santa Ana. Their first meeting was on October 22, 1924. It did not

Due to this expansion out of the United States, they changed the name to
Toastmasters International . It became a non profit organization in 1932 and thanks
to Smedley the club was kept alive through World War II. After the war ended, Ted
Blanding replaced Smedley and remained an active director for the rest of his life.
Toastmasters International simply rented a few office spaces until 1962, which is
when they moved into their first headquarters near the YMCA in Santa Ana.

Most people never stop to think about the sanitation of the air around them. The
only places that people ruminate over air quality are largely populated states and
cities. One of these places is California. Ominous clouds of smog and polluted air
constantly hover over the citizens. These people don t ever look up and worry,
because smogis a usual appearance. This issue destroys not only the earth and its
atmosphere, but the very center of our lives: our bodies health. Particulate pollutants
are like the retroviruses of the world: well rounded and dangerous. Air pollutionis the
largest ecological issue of our time because the contaminated air lingers all over the
world constantly being augmented to, and further threatening the world and those
who lives in it. As a state that is car centric, California has been harassed by air
pollutionfor decades. Even one of California s most famous cities, Los Angeles, is
known for the cloud of smog. National Geographic even comments on the daily
emissions from factories and automobiles in the city saying, In the past 150 years,
such activities have pumped enough carbon dioxide into the atmosphere to raise its
