Project Management Failures And Its Effects On The Mine
Project Management Failures The other evident failure was that the management did not address
concerns that were raised in regards to high volumes of harmful gases in the mine. Pike River Coal
Mine s managers were more concerned about producing huge volumes of coal, instead of protecting
their employees from avoidable accidents. For instance, reports of high methane levels were not
addressed appropriately. Instead of investing in safety procedures, the managers let their employees
work in a dangerous environment. One major problem that caused this accident was the frequent
changing of the top management. Leaders were replaced without even addressing the safety issues that
had been raised by the employees. Pike River Coal Mine could have hired well trained managers to
oversee operations at the mine for the long term. Complaints of excessive methane gas could have
been handled by installing stable fans and ventilation systems. This gesture could have helped create a
safe working environment for the miners. Leakages could also have been controlled to limit the
volumes of methane gas in the underground mine. These strategies could have been followed to
protect employees from fatal respiratory diseases as well as fire accidents (Perrow, 2002). The initial
project failure was the idea of constructing a coal mine in a mountainous terrain. The construction of
Pike River Coal Mine was based on experience gained from bore hole exploration procedures. The
required procedures for

How To Infect Salmon
At first when I started college, I was on the path to become a biologist. I wanted to get more
experience in the field, so I asked my advisor, Doctor Amanda Gunn, if there was had any
opportunities for me to get hands on experience in my field. She said she was studying Aeromonas
Salmonicida, a bacterium that causes diseases in salmon. She wanted me to use bioinformatics tools to
learn about its ability to infect salmon. The goal was to determine if certain aspects of the bacterium
could be modified or genetically engineered so the salmon s immune system would be able to respond
more efficiently. This lead me down the path of bioengineering, a field of study where genetic material
is altered for certain characteristics. After completing the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I go to church on Saturday and while I am not out with my age group every week, I m with a people
who are at least a decade older or younger than me. Some of these people don t get to talk people to
people much so it s fun listening to their stories and fun having someone to listen to them. People like
military members, outdoorsman, and engineers. I also heard about the experience of being homeless.
Aberdeen gets very rainy and cold at night, so not having a place to stay is awful. The rain from that
isn t drained gets all over the sidewalk and whoever has to walk there for just 10 minutes gets their
shoes soggy and moist. Imagine walking around all day and sleeping all night in that! Being homeless
also means it harder to afford find food. Hearing these stories from people I talked to every week
made me want to do something about it. I ran for ASB of my high school and became the Senior Class
President. I used my position to organize foodball, an event where two cities compete to raise the most
resources for the Coastal Harvest. That is a food storage facility that donates to food banks across the
State of Washington in times of emergency. The year I was running it the two cities competing were
Hoquiam and Aberdeen. Even though the name was foodball, it wasn t just food we were collecting. It
was also money to donate to and help raise resources for food banks, like socks, shoes, and shirts. I
cleaned up after the events, dressed up as a mascot and danced to raise money for several events. I was
even able to run an intercity dodgeball game. A game which Aberdeen won. Although Aberdeen didn t
beat Hoquiam in the end, we managed to beat the amount of food raised last year. After foodball
ended, I decided I wanted to do more. I became a deacon at my church and several times a month I
help run the P.A., fix broken things around the church with my dad, and count and collect offering.
While Aberdeen does have a punk flair to it, I feel it

The Invention Of Digital Photography
Introduction
In the early 20th century, when the monochrome camera came to people s sight, round or oval frames
were as common as square frames. They offered a sense of both formality and intimacy. Though the
technology of digital photography is increasingly reaching more new heights, nothing can beat
holding a printed photo of a precious memory in hands. The incredible project has once again pushed
out a innovation in instant photography. The instant project is proud of its Impossible Instant Lab to
the photographic and digital world. One year ago, it debuted the Instant Lab and received a massively
successful response from the community. Now all set to launch, this revolutionary device allows
people to transform their digital iPhone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Photographic film is the indispensable part of Impossible Instant Lab when taking photos. The quality
of colorful photos depends on the quality of photographic films in some degree. The company can
launch three different levels of photographic films onto the market. Firstly, the photographic film is
needed to meet the demands of common consumers who only can afford low level products. This type
of photographic film may cost 20 penny each and be sold at the price of 50 penny. Next, regular level
of photographic needed to be produced in order to offer the convenience for the majority of
consumers. This type of photographic is produced at the cost of 25 penny and the price of 60 penny.
Furthermore, some advanced photographic film is also in the consideration since one part of
consumers focus on the quality and the style of photos. As a result, the company can produce some
photographic films with better material and decoration. Consequently, the cost of it is higher and the
price is more expensive at 50 penny and 1 pound respectively.
Financial plan for cost and price of camera
The instant camera attracts young generation especially girls. According to the consumers
consumption level, the Impossible Instant Lab can be divided in to three main aspects. Firstly,
consumers who have ability to afford the average price of the instant camera are expected to be taken
into consideration. So the raw material is supposed to be considered to be

Essay on The Manhattan Project
Before the Manhattan Project, in the beginning there were many advancements in understanding made
in the world of physics. These resulted in the recognition of nuclear fission and its potential as an
energy source and as a potential weapon. Of these advancements none was more central and important
than the development of the nuclear model of the atom, which by the year of 1932 contained a nucleus
containing most of the mass of an atom in the form of two particles, protons and neutrons. This
nucleus was surrounded by an electron shell. Previously it was thought that atoms were the smallest
form of matter therefore ultimately stable and indivisible. However, in 1919 Ernest Rutherford was
able to break apart the nucleus of nitrogen with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then in 1939 World War II began and people around the world began to worry what Germany might
do with nuclear technology.
The idea that nuclear fission could be a significant producer of electrical power and a powerful
military weapon occurred to many physicists, engineers and scientist around the world. Due to the
escalating conflict in Europe, many scientist no longer published their discoveries and advancements
for fear of it aiding enemy scientist. There was one difficulty encountered early on in the development
of Manhattan Project, this problem was the difficulty of mining or creating the proper uranium
isotope. Uranium 235 was the only isotope of uranium that underwent fission and only 0.7% of the
uranium found in nature was of this isotope. More commonly uranium 238 was found, which actually
inhibited the nuclear chain reaction. There were however several techniques which will be mentioned
later for enriching the uranium. Do to how rare and expensive uranium 235 was it was first necessary
to determine how much would be needed to create fission reactor or bomb.
A group of Hungarian Jewish refugee physicists named, Leo Szillard, Edward Teller, and Eugene
Wigner initiated the movement towards developing a program to analyze and determine whether a
weapon could be created using nuclear

The knee is an involute weight bearing joint that connects...
The knee is an involute weight bearing joint that connects the femur, patella, and tibia composing the
patellofemoral and tibiofemoral joints. It is withal comprised of sundry ligaments, tendons, and
cartilage that function to integrate stability, kineticism, and weight bearing. Any structure of the knee
is susceptible to injury, however, many occupational cognate disorder affect the bursae, meniscus, and
cartilage. This is particularly true for knee straining postures such as kneeling and squatting or
prostration. The bursa is a fluid filled sac that acts as a cushion between a tendon an bone or a tendon

The meniscus withal averts friction between the femur and tibia and sanctions the diffusion of joint
fluid into the articular cartilage. The meniscus increases the load carrying area of the joint by 200%,
thereby lowering the stress applied to the articular cartilage and acting as a shock absorber. The
articular cartilage can be damaged by both traumatic and degenerative mechanisms. The most
prevalent mechanism of traumatic meniscal tear occurs predominantly in athletes when a convoluting
moment applies to the weight bearing knee in a semi flexed position. This form of meniscal tear is
commonly concurrent with an ACL injury. Meniscus tears without ACL injury are commonly the
result of degeneration of the meniscus. The articular cartilage is another structure that is commonly
injured. Osteoarthritis is a chronic condition characterized by the breakdown of the joint s articular
cartilage. This breakdown in cartilage affects the lubrication proses within the knee and results in
direct contact between the bone, causing stiffness, pain, and loss of kineticism. It additionally reduces
the shock absorbing capacity of the knee, leading to micro fractures of the subchondral bone.
Osteoarthritis is the most prevalent joint disorder associated with major disabilities, affecting more
than 27million Americans. The risk of developing this disease increase with age and is estimated that
by 2030,20% of Americans(about 2milion people), will be at a high risk for this

Reflection Paper On Varsity
This year, as a high school freshman, I was blessed with a amazing opportunity. I was moved to
varsity during my freshman year. That usually never happens unless your team is down or you re
really good. Our varsity team had many injuries causing me to be moved up to varsity. Playing varsity
humbled me and showed me that hard work does pay off. From this experience it encouraged me to
keep working to be the best player i can be in these upcoming years. The day I was told I would play
varsity was just like every other Monday practice for me. It was a middle of a regular freshman
practice. We were in the middle of walk throughs when the varsity head coach came up to me. Coach
Dodd said, Walker take your equipment off your practicing with varsity today. I replied, Ok! Right
now? Coach Dodd responded, Yes Walker
My first varsity practice was way different than i expected. It was a slower past the freshman but way
more complicated to me. After the practice Coach Dodd told me I would dress varsity. My reaction
was mellow but in the inside i was so excited i didn t know what to do. I went home and told my mom
and called my dad. I don t think anybody was excited as i was. I knew I would have to go 110% to
compete with all the upperclassmen. Varsity practices for me were hard because i had to do half of a
freshman practice then come practice with varsity. I had to memories varsity plays and freshman
plays. I feel like it made me a better player. I was told that I might

Did you know that you can take up to 30 years to pay off a mortgage in Canada?
It can be quite the experience being approved for a mortgage, especially if it is your first. However,

Mortgage payments can exert a heavy burden on your expenses. Besides paying a mortgage, you have
other equally important things to do with your money. Life goes on even after the mortgage. However,
the thought of paying for a house month after month, year after year, for thirty years, is close to living
a never ending nightmare.
But there s good news for you. You can actually complete paying off your 30 year mortgage

Any extra, however small, payment you add to your monthly payments goes towards reducing your
principal amount. At the end of the day, you will end paying your mortgage in a shorter time period
and save in interest.
2. Cut Down on Your Non Essential Daily Expenditure
Having lunch is a necessity that you can t do without. But who said you must buy lunch every day?
What about bringing your own lunch from home? Let s assume that you normally spend $100 a month
on lunch. If you put this towards your mortgage payment, you will end up saving yourself more than
$25,000 in interest! Add to this whatever you spend on Starbucks every month and you will see your
interest crumbling faster than cookies. There are so many non essential expenditure that you can
scrape or skim off to put your mortgage payments on the fast track.
3. Consider Refinancing Your Mortgage
No one wants to be tied down to a mortgage for 30 years! If the above stringent measures are not your
cup of coffee, you might want to consider refinancing your mortgage for a shorter term, say 15 years
instead of 30. Refinancing your home allows you to get financing to pay off the initial loan and
instead sign up for another one with a lower interest, which is payable within a shorter

City County Consolidation Case Study
INTRODUCTION
On November 7, 1972, voters in Fayette County and Lexington Kentucky decided to consolidate their
city and county government. 69.8 percent of the 62,197 voters who showed up to the polls cast their
ballots in support of the merger (Shaw 2010). City county consolidation occurs when a local
government reform in which a major municipality and county merge to create a unified government.
Smaller governments are believed to benefit by their ability to take advantage of larger government
economies. These referenda have shown to be mostly unsuccessful, partly because of how unpopular it
is with voters. City county consolidation has been debated for decades, various commissions have

Summary Of Shirley Jackson s The Lottery
Is it Worth It?
In The Lottery by Shirley Jackson, Jackson writes the story from a third person s point of view to tell a
story about this village that celebrates this annual event. The narrator tells us all these details about the
event but leaves the most important detail out until the very end. When people normally hear the word
Lottery they quickly think winning is a positive thing but for the villagers in The Lottery winning isn t
something they look forward to. Shirley Jackson s The Lottery uses irony, foreshadowing, and
symbolism to build suspense throughout the story and make the ending of the story a realization rather
than a surprise to the reader.
Every year villagers gather together in the town square to begin the annual Lottery which everyone is
required to attend. The setting is a small featureless town we re only three hundred people lived. In
other towns, it normally takes longer but in this town the lottery was finished right before lunch.
School wasn t in session so kids showed up first. The girls started conversations amongst themselves
and the boys, Bobby Martin, Harry Jones, and Dickie Delacroix, began to pocket stones. Husbands
and then wives show up after and gather their families while waiting for Mr. Summer to arrive with
the black box. Once he arrived chatter amongst everyone died. At this point in the story everyone
begins to become nervous and once the black box is placed on the stool all the villagers make sure to
keep their distance

A Change is Needed in Our Right to Bear Arms
What if an individual could acquire a gun like you buy a pair of shoes whatever size or color you
want? Could you imagine what it would be like? The mere thought of every person in the city walking
around with guns is frightening. That will be the United States if Congress does not put stricter
policies in place to control the situation. When looking at the news, or reading the paper or even
surfing the web you will see overwhelming statistics. According to the USA Gun Violence Statistics,
More than 30,000 people are killed by firearms each year in this country and More than 30 people are
shot and murdered each day, 1/2 of them are between the ages of 18 and 35 and 1/3 of them are under
the age of 20. Gun violence has caused terror and fear across the country due to the attacks on
innocent people like Sandy Hook Elementary, where a 20 year old killed 20 children and 6 adults, a
Shooting Frenzy at Fort Hood in 2009, or the movie goer who was shot and killed for texting in the
movie theater, and Jordan Davis who was shot while in his car at a gas station in Jacksonville Florida,
and we will never forget the massacres at Columbine and Virginia Tech. How many more people will
have to die or become injured in these senseless acts of violence before changes are made to this
problematic situation? Innocent individuals are being gun down for no apparent reasons. Enough is

A Study On The Luxury Hotel Industry
CHAPTER 4. RESEARCH
Overview
This chapter will discuss the methodology used to enhance the study, and justifies it as a fitting
process for the subject of the paper. This chapter opens explaining qualitative methodology and why it
is the chosen method for the study. Then, after, it details the process of data collection.
Qualitative Methodology
The research question of this study concerns how the luxury hotel industry can adapt to Chinese
conceptualizations and consumer behavior. As the study focuses on culture and values, and how they
are represented in Chinese actions and expectations, qualitative methods were determined to be the
best process to understand the issue. We find cultural studies are thoroughly grounded in qualitative
research due to its roots in disciplines such as anthropology. [Atkinson 2005]
Qualitative research is defined as a study that uses nonnumeric data in the form of words (Schwandt,
2001), and provides an interpretive view that in comparison to quantitative research provides different
strategies of inquiry through techniques such as interviews, focus groups, and ethnography.
Qualitative methods allow the researcher to study individuals, consider and discover processes, as well
as learn about the general culture sharing behavior of the subjects or individuals studied (Creswell
2009)
As the study focused on the impact culture has on consumer behavior, the method of qualitative
research chosen were interview styled questions. This is the best

Theme Of America And I
America and I

Anzia Yezierska was born October 19th, 1885 on the Russuin Polish border, in a little town called
Plinsk. In 1892 she and her family immigrated to America. America and I is an autobiographical short
story, in which takes up important themes such as the American Dream and the journey to fulfil ones
goals in life.
In America and I, the author recalls moving from Russia to America. We hear about her expectations
when she first arrives, which are filled with hope and dreams of making a better life, than her
ancestors. She expects to find a country similar to the stories about the opportunities. At her first job

Anzia is a rare example of social mobility. She started from the scratch as an immigrant and ended up
as an educated author. To put this short story into perspective, we can look at America today. Both
today and back then, there wasn t much social mobility. In America there is and always have been
believed that with hard work, anyone can make it. In the documentary, Money, Power and the
American Dream, we get a clear image of how strong the American Dream still exists in the
Americans. The promise of how everyone can become everything and achieve their goals with hard
work. It is in the documentary clear, how that is not true. The social immobility is at its highest, and
the poor are getting less and less, whereas the rich are getting richer and richer.
The short story deals with a lot of interesting themes and ancles. In a honest and true way, it shows the

90) Since 2004 the demand for gasoline has been constant and the price of gasoline has continued to
rise, causing gasoline expenditures to rise astronomically. However, given that an acceptable substitute
for gasoline does not exist, consumers are unable to cutback on the amount of gasoline being
consumed. The article suggests that some reasons for consumers inability or unwillingness to cutback
on the consumption of gasoline are long commutes, the use of vehicles which are not fuel efficient and
a lack of alternative solutions such as carpooling and public transit options. The law of supply also
suggests that if a firm cuts back on the amount of a good being supplied, the cost of cutting back
outweighs the cost of continuing the supply. The Law of Demand The examination of the correlation
between the price of a good and the law of demand is necessary to predict how market forces react to
a reduced supply of goods. Dictionary.com defines price as the sum or amount of money or its

accounts for the law of demand. As the price of goods such as gasoline increases, people tend to

Similarities Between Texas Constitution And Us Constitution
On September 17, 1787, the U.S. constitution was signed. The U.S. constitution is a document that has
a set of rules, guidelines, and principles that governs our nation. This constitution is the oldest written
national document and has had 27 amendments. The current Texas constitution is the seventh
document written for Texas. The previous six were all when Texas was still apart of Mexico. The
current constitution hasn t been revised since 1876, which makes it the longest state constitution in the
United States.
The U.S. constitution and the Texas constitution have similarities and differences. Both constitutions
have a Bill of Rights. The Bill of Rights is a summary of the rights given to all people. These
constitutions also talk about suffrage and taxes. Just like how both of these constitutions have
similarities, they also have differences. The Texas constitution is longer than the U.S. constitution and
discusses the rights first. It also deals with state and local issues not brought up in the U.S.
constitution. Both constitutions have a Bill of Rights, but the Texas constitution discusses citizens
rights at the beginning of article one. The Texas Bill of Rights has the same protections for citizens

The Pressure Of The Canadian Nation
The pressure placed upon multicultural often leads to questioning of its value and usefulness in
building the Canadian nation. there have been far too many questionable call of ethics on behalf of the
government in regardless to who has taken, or not been able to take up for role in the country.
Historically we see this negative connotation follow distinct groups of people. Notably: Aboriginal
with residential schools (thought interesting because they are now seen as founding peoples, yet the
last residential school was only closed in the early 90s), the Chinese head tax, Japanese intermittent
camps, the turning away of Jewish individuals during WWII. It becomes difficult to see how some of
those marginalized or minority groups in Canada are able to find themselves, even today, in an
inclusive, equal and democratic society when multiculturalism in public discourse often hold onto old
or stereotypical understandings. It continues to act as an ongoing point of contention because of the
lack of historical knowledge Canadians have, as well as the increasing lack of engagement day to day
contemporary politics and national happenings. It acts as an ignorance, that ultimately has
consequences on the nations moral as well as its multicultural policies. In order to progress as a
society and nation, it becomes increasingly difficult to build the foundation on old understandings and
not re contextualize group and national identities in a 21st century context (Leung 1 2). Leung notes

Social Aspects Of Autism
Autism is mostly defined by and impairment in speech/communication. It is made of other other
things, but it mostly is that. It comes in a scale, or spectrum, called the autism spectrum and consists
of high functioning and low functioning, with more complications. Most of the statements are
common generalizations, and don t mean that autism isn t autism without these qualities.
The most important part is how it affects social aspects. Often, talk with short sentences and phrases
instead of full sentences, or can t even talk at all (1/3 people), no matter how smart they are
(remember, high functioning and low functioning)! They don t know eye contact (In my experience, it
led to arguments), and are often repetitive in their speech.

Four Factors That Affect The Overall Cost Of Cremation
There is a common held belief that cremation services are more affordable than funerals. Cremation is
often referred to as the low cost burial option. However, before you choose this option for yourself,
make sure you are aware of all the factors that can affect the cost of your cremation. Here are the top
four factors that affect the overall cost of cremation.
Factor #1: Transportation
After you pass away, your remains are going to need to be transported to the funeral home that will
take care of your cremation. Your remains will have to be transported from where ever you are to the
funeral home that you choose. If you are trying to plan your funeral and burial out in advance, you are
going to need to look into the cost of transportation for bodies.
These costs can vary, but generally the biggest factor that affects the price of transportation is how far
your body needs to travel. If you plan on having a local ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many different rules and choices that will affect the cost of storing your body.
To start with, most states require that bodies be storied a certain number of days before they are
cremated. These types of rules are in place to ensure that if there is an suspicion around your death, an
autopsy can be performed and the cause of your death can be found.
Next, if you have any medical devices inside of your body, such as a pacemaker, these medical
devices will need to be removed from your body before it can be cremated.
Finally, personal factors can affect your storage costs. If you want to haVe your body available for
viewing at your funeral, your body will need to be stored until your funeral and a casket will need to
be purchased or rented for the viewing. Even if you don t want a viewing at your funeral, you may
have family members who live far away who want to see your body one last time before it is

Arthur Koestler s Darkness At Noon, By George Orwell
The Russian Revolution in 1917 was a major event that captured the attention of several people
around the world. In an attempt to portray this occurrence, George Orwell wrote Animal Farm.
Through Secker Warburg, Orwell published various books that explore important topics such as
poverty, an individual s role in society, and politics. Even though nowadays people consider Animal
Farm a literary classic, the population did not receive the book well when Secker Warburg published it
in 1945. The facts that the Modern Library List of Best 20th Century Novels placed Animal Farm on
31st place, the novel won a Retrospective Hugo Award in 1996, and the Great Books of the Western
World included Animal Farm in its selection, prove Animal Farm s popularity. It is clear that Joseph

Another book that explores topics that revolve around occurrences in the USSR, which also ranked on
Modern Library List of Best 20th Century Novels, is Arthur Koestler s Darkness at Noon, a novel set
during the Stalinist Great Purge and Moscow Trials, which expresses the author s disillusionment over
the communism that the Soviet Union practiced. Along with corruption of power, Animal Farm
demonstrates how easily people start believing that the government is doing the right thing to protect
them when it is, in fact, doing bad things. This is why everyone should read Animal Farm. People
need to be aware that when someone rises to power in a moment of instability, the population feels
afraid to question his/her attitude, since the public wants things to become better. However, by not
doing so, the government ends up deceiving and taking advantage of society. The consequences of
letting government mislead people is another imperative topic that Animal Farm

Book Report On Technology And The Internet
This book is different than other books of the similar topics. Normally, when the topic of a book is
about technology or internet , it is difficult for the book to be written in a fun way because let s face it;
this topic itself is a little tedious. However, this book showed us a brand new way of talking about
Internet and the influence it has brought to our life. The way the author quoted the researchers
sentences and theories helped us to feel more willing to continue reading this book.
We used to read books to absorb new information or just kill time. It was a traditional way for us to
obtain knowledge and ideas of people around the world. Sometimes we spend several hours or even
days reading an interesting book just because we were attracted by some new thoughts. However, the
occurrence of computer and the internet has changed this. We have lost our patience and interest in
reading long articles and books. Instead, we prefer searching keywords online to get what we want by
skipping all the way. This change has drawn huge influence on the development of the new
generations. As the author has pointed out in the book, it was more difficult to assign the students to
read a whole book nowadays. Also, since we do not need to actually write anything for most of time
all we do is typing, on the cell phone, on the computer, on the typewriter, and ect we forget words
spelling from time to time because we haven t written them for a log time. The effects of technology

Marijuana Informative Speech
Howdy, today Sara, Shelby, Jessica, Royce and I will be discussing why the rise of marijuana is so
popular in the world and United States, as well as some of the issues within the United States that are
specific with marijuana.
Introduction:
Attention: I want you to think about what comes to your mind when you hear the word marijuana and
how your thought would vary if you lived 4,000 years ago. I am sure you were not thinking about the
cannabis plant that could also produce more beneficial worldwide items such as fabric and fiber,
lighting oil, or even paper.
Thesis Statement: Today my focus will not be on the positive and negatives of the marijuana drug,
however for the next few minutes I will inform you about the importance of the past global ... Show

According to the 2010 National Drug Strategy Household Survey, 35.4% of the Australian population
reported using cannabis at some time in their lives, with 10.3% having used it in the last 12 months.
Even more astonishing news that was reported from this survey was that of the Australian population
that was surveyed more than 700,000 Australians used cannabis in the previous week. ( What is
Cannabis )
Transition to second main point: Now that we understand the cannabis plant and how global this plant
is, we will now narrow our attention to where marijuana comes from, let us dive into how marijuana
became such a popular drug worldwide.
2. Throughout the last ninety five years, marijuana has become the reason for governments worldwide
to spend billions of dollars in order to stop war on drugs , but many wonder how marijuana even
became so popular in global society.
a. According to criminal defense lawyer, Bruce Alan Block, he says that Marijuana was used as a
medicinal herb by the ancient Chinese, Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans for stomach ailments, cramps,
and pain. (Block)
i. Bruce then leads on to talk about how the drug marijuana was spread throughout Europe was during
war and trading with allies during the conquests in the Mediterranean.

My Experience, Math, And Literacy Experiences In...
All throughout the summer of 2016, my time was spent volunteering at the Chinese Christian Mission
kid s summer camp. After my summer vacation ended, I found myself genuinely appreciating the
accompaniment of children and wanting to continue my involvement with them. I sought out for more
opportunities to work with children and discovered an after school homework club through a friend s
Facebook post. After reading up on their website, I was interested in helping elementary school
students develop essential math and literacy skills. It was my objective to enhance their self esteem
through improvement in academic skills and ignite a passion for learning in a safe and caring
environment. Starting out first as a tutor, then becoming coordinator, I have volunteered with Learning
Buddies Network for more than a year now.
Being a tutor for two terms, I helped elementary students who struggled with math to learn the
fundamentals. My buddy, Jacob, had struggled with ADHD and math for a majority of his grade
school life. Upon meeting him, it was clear that he had a sense of dread towards math and me, as I was
the one teaching him math. His dislike for math was exhibited when he filled out the first evaluation
test of the term; he had scored his fondness of math a 1 out of 5. Initially, it was difficult to attain his
attention for more than minutes at a time, and he was generally disinterested in the content I was
teaching him. However, as time went on, I got to know Jacob. I discovered his two favourite things in
the world: art and food. My learning curve was steep as I quickly adjusted my teaching style to match
his interests. I motivated him with small snacks at the end of each question set and gave him periodic
breaks. In these breaks I felt that we an invaluable had a bonding moment because we shared the
common interest of art. I was touched to see his joy and admiration when I was able to draw his
favourite Pokemon for him. At the end of the two terms he filled out the evaluation test again, this
time scoring his fondness of math a 3 out of 5. Though it may not seem like a high score for the
average student, it was a vast improvement from his 1 out of 5 and meant a great deal to both him and

Mandatory Minimums Should Not Be Mandatory
Those who oppose mandatory minimums argue that longer sentences cost too much, are ineffective in
reducing drug related crimes, and do not allow for lenience in extenuating circumstances.
The average cost of keeping a single prisoner incarcerated in federal prison for a year is approximately
$30,619.85 (Prisons Bureau, and Department of Justice), multiply that number by the typical five
years in prison mandatory minimum policy demands for minor drug crimes as well as multiplying it
by the approximate 93,262 inmates currently in prison for drug crimes (Federal Bureau of Prisons)
and the cost of long sentences required by mandatory minimums starts to add up.
In addition to the economical problems mandatory minimums contribute to, some adversaries suggest
that mandatory minimums may not even be effective, particularly in regards to reducing drug related
crimes. In many organized drug operations when one drug supplier is caught and incarcerated another
swiftly takes his place (Caulkins, Jonathan P). Furthermore, social scientists and public policy analysts
researching the effectiveness of mandatory minimums have found there to be little conclusive
evidence that mandatory minimums do in fact reduce crime (The United States Sentencing
Commission).
Another concern mandatory minimums pose is the lack of individualized sentencing. As previously
mentioned when discussing the positive aspects of mandatory minimums some view consistency of
sentencing as a favorable product of mandatory

Tay Sachs Disease In Children
Imagine giving birth to a beautiful seemingly healthy baby, the doctor wiping him or her off and
handing it to you. Two days later, the hospital discharges you, and you begin to spend the next 3
months adjusting your new baby to your home. Towards the 4 month mark you realize some serious
symptoms that are hard to ignore such as the inability to grow beyond his or her small figure., inability
to hold something like a spoon or even your finger, and lastly lack of eye contact. Scary as this
scenario may seem, at least 16 babies are diagnosed with Tay Sachs disease in United States every
year. Unfortunately, the diagnosed cases are only found in toddlers because, children with this disease

Case Study On Neural Machine Translation
Facebook partnered with Bing in 2011 for translation services, making it an early pioneer in the move
toward neural machine translation.
In December 2015, Facebook dropped Bing and began to outsource its translation services while
developing its own translation technologies.
Facebook s own neural machine translator went fully operational on August 3, 2017.
Overview
Hello and thank you for your question about Facebook neural machine translation. The short version
is that Facebook has been moving toward integrating their own translation technology since 2011, and
have recently (August 2017) gone fully operational with their own Neural Machine Translator. Below
you will find a deep dive of our findings.

Facebook was an early pioneer of online translation when in 2011 it started using automated systems
to translate users posts and comments in the News Feed. Facebook used Bing initially because they
didn t yet have their own technology.
In January 2015, Facebook open sourced Torch (their deep learning library). Facebook explains
TORCH as an open source development environment for numerics, machine learning, and computer
vision. Many projects on machine learning and AI at FAIR (Facebook AI Research) use Torch.
Also in 2015, Facebook acquired Wit.ai, a startup using understanding of natural language in
text/voice to power user interfaces.
In December 2015, Facebook dropped Bing and started using its own translation technology. The issue
was that Bing was built to translate more properly written website text, not human slang. Facebook
stated that the disconnect between the languages people speak and the content they want to connect to
on the Internet is what made them want to create their own neural network based machine translation
(MT) system.
Also in Dec 2015, Facebook opensourced it s hardware designs for anyone to explore through the
Open Compute Project. The server was called BigSur, which is described as servers with graphics
processing units (GPUs), which have become the chip of choice for deep learning.
Later, in June 2016, Facebook stated that Statistical

James Madison Accomplishments
James Madison s Accomplishments James Madison (1751 1836) was a founding father of the United
States who is famous for the contribution he made towards the U.S. Constitution. His
accomplishments include the Virginia Plan, an outline for a new constitution; directed the Philadelphia
Convention towards forming a new constitution; and contributed to the Federalist Papers, which
promoted the ratification of the constitution. Apart from being the Father of the Constitution, Madison
is also recognized as the Father of the Bill of Rights, the first ten amendments to the Constitution. He
served as U.S. Secretary of State under President Thomas Jefferson before becoming the fourth
President of the United States in 1809. The foreign affairs during his presidency were dominated by
the War of 1812 with Great Britain while his domestic policy focused on an effective taxation system
and a well funded standing professional military. Madison s path towards the creation of a new
constitution began with the Philadelphia Convention where he presented the Virginia Plan. This plan
promised that it would supersede the ineffective Articles that were currently in place, and a new more
effective constitution would pick up its role. According to the original Virginia Plan drafted by
Madison, some of his ideas included, Resolved that each branch ought to possess the right of
originating acts. Resolved that it is the opinion of this Committee that a national government ought to

The Israeli Palestinian Conflict And The Northern Ireland
The Israeli Palestinian conflict and the Northern Ireland case had many similar elements in conflict
drivers and elements that gave rise to conflict; however ,the two cases also had differing salient points.
The Israelis were a diasporic community while the Ulsters in Northern Ireland were a minority group
living on their own land. The Palestinian and Israeli saw each other as more of a threat than the
unionist and nationalists saw each other in Northern Ireland. The Northern Ireland crisis did not
threaten the existence of England while the PLO had motive to destroy Israel. These were some of the
several differing factors that accounted for this variation in outcome; however the main issue was
threat and incentive. The actors in the Good Friday Agreement had more incentive, or less threat in
accepting the agreement. Actors in the Oslo negotiations believed that was more threat for Israel
Palestine to integrate. Also, there were significant gaps in goals and incentives they had. An attempt to
understand the failure of the Oslo process can be explained with a Realist lens. The Oslo agreements
are inherently Liberal agreements, focusing on collective security and the possibility of cooperation
and interdependence. However, under the Realist framing, the conditions in the Israel Palestine
context was not viable for the construction of a Liberal peace. Since in Realist terms, perceived threat
came from other actors If the if practical interests [of actors were] incompatible,

Essay on Ethical Issues on Immigration
Ethical Issues on Immigration There are many issues in the United States. Some of them are more
distraught than others. One issue that has recently had a lot of controversy would be immigration laws.
Should we put a stop to immigrants coming over United States boarders? Should the immigrants
already in the U.S.A. be allowed to stay? These are some questions being asked by today s society.
Immigrants are not all bad; some are very useful to the United States. In society today, it is easy for
some people to find issues with immigrants in America, but people also need to remember America
was formed by immigrants. Immigrants come from all over the world. Some immigrants are legal and
some are not. According to the Census Bureau, in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Utilitarian s feel that solving the problem is by making the majority happy. But what if the majority is
illegal immigrants, then the Americans get overruled and there is no solution. By passing laws that
prevent illegal immigrants coming over the boarder it does not please everyone. It is hard for the
government to find a solution that would please everyone. Many people feel that the only way to solve
this problem would be to stop all immigrants from crossing the U.S. boarder. Then what does the
United States become? It does not stay what America is supposed to be a land of opportunity. By
passing laws that does not please everyone there will always be some conflict. There will always be
that one person that does not agree with what the American government decides to do. Relativist feels
that as long as people have different views, then those views should be put into consideration. Some
people are for immigration and some are strongly against it. Immigration is a good thing it helps
expand our market and provides more laborers. One thing that some people believe to be a positive
factor in illegal immigration is, illegal immigrants that come to America and begin working and pay
taxes but do not use any other benefits that tax payers in America use. According to Nofziger (2010),
While undocumented workers have extreme difficulty accessing services, they still

  • 2. Project Management Failures And Its Effects On The Mine Project Management Failures The other evident failure was that the management did not address concerns that were raised in regards to high volumes of harmful gases in the mine. Pike River Coal Mine s managers were more concerned about producing huge volumes of coal, instead of protecting their employees from avoidable accidents. For instance, reports of high methane levels were not addressed appropriately. Instead of investing in safety procedures, the managers let their employees work in a dangerous environment. One major problem that caused this accident was the frequent changing of the top management. Leaders were replaced without even addressing the safety issues that had been raised by the employees. Pike River Coal Mine could have hired well trained managers to oversee operations at the mine for the long term. Complaints of excessive methane gas could have been handled by installing stable fans and ventilation systems. This gesture could have helped create a safe working environment for the miners. Leakages could also have been controlled to limit the volumes of methane gas in the underground mine. These strategies could have been followed to protect employees from fatal respiratory diseases as well as fire accidents (Perrow, 2002). The initial project failure was the idea of constructing a coal mine in a mountainous terrain. The construction of Pike River Coal Mine was based on experience gained from bore hole exploration procedures. The required procedures for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. How To Infect Salmon At first when I started college, I was on the path to become a biologist. I wanted to get more experience in the field, so I asked my advisor, Doctor Amanda Gunn, if there was had any opportunities for me to get hands on experience in my field. She said she was studying Aeromonas Salmonicida, a bacterium that causes diseases in salmon. She wanted me to use bioinformatics tools to learn about its ability to infect salmon. The goal was to determine if certain aspects of the bacterium could be modified or genetically engineered so the salmon s immune system would be able to respond more efficiently. This lead me down the path of bioengineering, a field of study where genetic material is altered for certain characteristics. After completing the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I go to church on Saturday and while I am not out with my age group every week, I m with a people who are at least a decade older or younger than me. Some of these people don t get to talk people to people much so it s fun listening to their stories and fun having someone to listen to them. People like military members, outdoorsman, and engineers. I also heard about the experience of being homeless. Aberdeen gets very rainy and cold at night, so not having a place to stay is awful. The rain from that isn t drained gets all over the sidewalk and whoever has to walk there for just 10 minutes gets their shoes soggy and moist. Imagine walking around all day and sleeping all night in that! Being homeless also means it harder to afford find food. Hearing these stories from people I talked to every week made me want to do something about it. I ran for ASB of my high school and became the Senior Class President. I used my position to organize foodball, an event where two cities compete to raise the most resources for the Coastal Harvest. That is a food storage facility that donates to food banks across the State of Washington in times of emergency. The year I was running it the two cities competing were Hoquiam and Aberdeen. Even though the name was foodball, it wasn t just food we were collecting. It was also money to donate to and help raise resources for food banks, like socks, shoes, and shirts. I cleaned up after the events, dressed up as a mascot and danced to raise money for several events. I was even able to run an intercity dodgeball game. A game which Aberdeen won. Although Aberdeen didn t beat Hoquiam in the end, we managed to beat the amount of food raised last year. After foodball ended, I decided I wanted to do more. I became a deacon at my church and several times a month I help run the P.A., fix broken things around the church with my dad, and count and collect offering. While Aberdeen does have a punk flair to it, I feel it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Essay on The Manhattan Project Before the Manhattan Project, in the beginning there were many advancements in understanding made in the world of physics. These resulted in the recognition of nuclear fission and its potential as an energy source and as a potential weapon. Of these advancements none was more central and important than the development of the nuclear model of the atom, which by the year of 1932 contained a nucleus containing most of the mass of an atom in the form of two particles, protons and neutrons. Let s assume that you normally spend $100 a month on lunch. If you put this towards your mortgage payment, you will end up saving yourself more than $25,000 in interest! Add to this whatever you spend on Starbucks every month and you will see your interest crumbling faster than cookies. There are so many non essential expenditure that you can scrape or skim off to put your mortgage payments on the fast track. 3. If the above stringent measures are not your cup of coffee, you might want to consider refinancing your mortgage for a shorter term, say 15 years instead of 30. In The Lottery by Shirley Jackson, Jackson writes the story from a third person s point of view to tell a story about this village that celebrates this annual event. The narrator tells us all these details about the event but leaves the most important detail out until the very end. When people normally hear the word Lottery they quickly think winning is a positive thing but for the villagers in The Lottery winning isn t something they look forward to. Shirley Jackson s The Lottery uses irony, foreshadowing, and symbolism to build suspense throughout the story and make the ending of the story a realization rather than a surprise to the reader. Every year villagers gather together in the town square to begin the annual Lottery which everyone is required to attend. The setting is a small featureless town we re only three hundred people lived. In other towns, it normally takes longer but in this town the lottery was finished right before lunch. This chapter opens explaining qualitative methodology and why it is the chosen method for the study. Then, after, it details the process of data collection. Qualitative Methodology The research question of this study concerns how the luxury hotel industry can adapt to Chinese conceptualizations and consumer behavior. As the study focuses on culture and values, and how they are represented in Chinese actions and expectations, qualitative methods were determined to be the best process to understand the issue. We find cultural studies are thoroughly grounded in qualitative research due to its roots in disciplines such as anthropology. [Atkinson 2005] Qualitative research is defined as a study that uses nonnumeric data in the form of words (Schwandt, 2001), and provides an interpretive view that in comparison to quantitative research provides different strategies of inquiry through techniques such as interviews, focus groups, and ethnography. Qualitative methods allow the researcher to study individuals, consider and discover processes, as well as learn about the general culture sharing behavior of the subjects or individuals studied (Creswell 2009) As the study focused on the impact culture has on consumer behavior, the method of qualitative research chosen were interview styled questions. The article suggests that some reasons for consumers inability or unwillingness to cutback on the consumption of gasoline are long commutes, the use of vehicles which are not fuel efficient and a lack of alternative solutions such as carpooling and public transit options. The law of supply also suggests that if a firm cuts back on the amount of a good being supplied, the cost of cutting back outweighs the cost of continuing the supply. After my summer vacation ended, I found myself genuinely appreciating the accompaniment of children and wanting to continue my involvement with them. I sought out for more opportunities to work with children and discovered an after school homework club through a friend s Facebook post. After reading up on their website, I was interested in helping elementary school students develop essential math and literacy skills. It was my objective to enhance their self esteem through improvement in academic skills and ignite a passion for learning in a safe and caring environment. Starting out first as a tutor, then becoming coordinator, I have volunteered with Learning Buddies Network for more than a year now. Being a tutor for two terms, I helped elementary students who struggled with math to learn the fundamentals. My buddy, Jacob, had struggled with ADHD and math for a majority of his grade school life. Upon meeting him, it was clear that he had a sense of dread towards math and me, as I was the one teaching him math. His dislike for math was exhibited when he filled out the first evaluation test of the term; he had scored his fondness of math a 1 out of 5. Initially, it was difficult to attain his attention for more than minutes at a time, and he was generally disinterested in the content I was teaching him. However, as time went on, I got to know Jacob. I discovered his two favourite things in the world: art and food. In these breaks I felt that we an invaluable had a bonding moment because we shared the common interest of art. I was touched to see his joy and admiration when I was able to draw his favourite Pokemon for him. At the end of the two terms he filled out the evaluation test again, this time scoring his fondness of math a 3 out of 5. Mandatory Minimums Should Not Be Mandatory Those who oppose mandatory minimums argue that longer sentences cost too much, are ineffective in reducing drug related crimes, and do not allow for lenience in extenuating circumstances. The average cost of keeping a single prisoner incarcerated in federal prison for a year is approximately $30,619.85 (Prisons Bureau, and Department of Justice), multiply that number by the typical five years in prison mandatory minimum policy demands for minor drug crimes as well as multiplying it by the approximate 93,262 inmates currently in prison for drug crimes (Federal Bureau of Prisons) and the cost of long sentences required by mandatory minimums starts to add up. In addition to the economical problems mandatory minimums contribute to, some adversaries suggest that mandatory minimums may not even be effective, particularly in regards to reducing drug related crimes. In many organized drug operations when one drug supplier is caught and incarcerated another swiftly takes his place (Caulkins, Jonathan P). Furthermore, social scientists and public policy analysts researching the effectiveness of mandatory minimums have found there to be little conclusive evidence that mandatory minimums do in fact reduce crime (The United States Sentencing Commission). The Palestinian and Israeli saw each other as more of a threat than the unionist and nationalists saw each other in Northern Ireland. The Northern Ireland crisis did not threaten the existence of England while the PLO had motive to destroy Israel. These were some of the several differing factors that accounted for this variation in outcome; however the main issue was threat and incentive. The actors in the Good Friday Agreement had more incentive, or less threat in accepting the agreement. Actors in the Oslo negotiations believed that was more threat for Israel Palestine to integrate. Also, there were significant gaps in goals and incentives they had. An attempt to understand the failure of the Oslo process can be explained with a Realist lens.
