Rumble Fish
In thinking of film s that are able to exemplify many film elements that are put together in an
interesting and organized manner the movie Rumble Fish comes to mind. The director Francis Ford
Coppola demonstrates how metaphors are able to help decipher a deeper meaning of the film. Rumble
Fish is a film that is about growing up and seeing new things that have never been seen before. The
two main characters who are brothers Rusty James and the Motorcycle Boy, experience internal
conflicts. Rusty James the younger of the two looks up to his brother and wants to be like him.
However the elder has grown out of his previous demeanor of always fighting and he doesn t want his
brother to follow in his steps. Throughout the film he ask Rusty ... Show more content on

The editing consists of shot reverse shot between the three characters, with distinct close ups that
show detailed facial expressions. The Mise En Scene in this scene is limited compared to others, the
lighting used is the standard used through most of the picture. The costumes are very realistic with
Rusty James continuously wearing his tank top, however they are not elaborate. Coppola was able to
create a film of this caliber and not have to use all the fancy film techniques of the time, and that is
one reason why it is such a masterpiece. When the two brothers are looking at the fish it is somber, in
the way the speech is projected in such a low manner. The elder also tends to look quite somber, he
relates to the fish and it makes him think about the life for himself and his brother so he becomes
depressed. However, since both brothers are so enthralled with the fish it tends to be a light hearted
scene. When Rusty James listens to his brother about the fish let alone anything he finds it all
interesting and he is happy to hear anything he has to say. Rusty James does look and sound quite
confused when his brother is talking to him, he continuously scratches his head and also has a
dumbfounded look on his face. The lighting does not change much in this scene however the natural
lighting that is throughout the whole movie almost makes this movie what it is. For the majority of the
scene the camera is on the opposite side of the

Guilt In Little Bee By Chris Cleave
The Power of Guilt Everyone has felt a deep sense of regret, this is also known as guilt. The affects of
guilt varies depending on the person who is affected by the feeling and how they cope with their guilt.
Guilt is a very common feeling that can tremendously affect a person. In the novel Little Bee by Chris
Cleave, many incidents occur which reveal various examples of the possible outcomes guilt can have
on a person. Two outcomes of guilt in this novel involve negative and positive consequences. There
has been an incident in my life which also has had a negative as well as a positive outcome. Not only
can the feeling of guilt inspire one in a negative manner, but also in a positive manner. Most often,
guilt leads people towards a negative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Lawrence and Little Bee converse alone for the first time, Little Bee tells Lawrence that she is
only staying here to help her (Sarah) (pg 185). At first, one would believe that Little Bee went to Sarah
s house because Sarah saves Little Bee s life and so Little Bee feels gratitude towards her. Also, Sarah
is the only person she had contact with in Britain. However, if one allows themselves to increase their
analytical thinking, they are able to discover Little Bee s reason, after leaving Andrew dead, as to why
she wants to stay at Sarah s house . The real reason, as one would discover, is that Little Bee wants to
take care of Sarah and her son, Charlie. Little Bee leaves Andrew hanging in the air in the fear that if
she did call for help from the neighbours, the police would come and take her back to Nigeria. Little
Bee could have ran away and left to go to a different place after witnessing Andrew s death but she
stayed because she felt a responsibility as a result of the guilt towards Andrew s family. Therefore, she
decides to stay in the house and provide the care and the love Andrew would have wanted to provide
them. Referring back to my story, the guilt I felt had also led me to a positive path. A while after my
mistake of insulting Areej, I wanted to clean up the mess I had made, by helping her feel better. I was
starting casual conversations with her, inviting her to join my

Political Philosophy And The Natural Law
Political philosophy and the natural law are seldom reflected on in politics. Typically, persons in a
political or civil society are often distracted by fiscal success or recreational leisure. In society today,
there exists a consensus reality with the prospect of money and power. This reality emanates from a
scandalous and corrupted political system. As a result, there lacks the recognition of idealistic values
on liberalism, human rights, and the natural law. There have been several philosophers who have tried
to conceptualize what constitutes a political philosophy. Several theorists produced valid points,
highlighting the epitome of both politics and citizenship. Consequently, there was one philosopher that
was able to produce a much more valid theory. John Locke philosophized that the political system is
rooted from the law of nature. The law of nature states that all persons are equal, inducing limitations
or restrictions on human freedom and personal liberty. Locke believed that natural rights was not
created by societal inclinations, but rather discovered by reason. Locke s concept of political
philosophy emphasizes that the law of nature furnishes persons rights to self preservation, self
defense, and personal liberty. (Personal Liberty, 414) Locke s theory on the political system was quite
interesting because he believed that the government plays as a servant, working for the benefit of the
people, in which the government claims their authority with only the

Research Proposal On Water Fountains
BACKGROUND
The current water fountains at Lawrenceburg High School are broken with poor filtration systems.
The water fountains are also inconvenient for the students and the school. The current water fountains
are costing the school more money, because the filtration is not effective and water is lost. The old
water fountains pose many threats such as making students sick from improper sanitation and not
allowing the students to get the appropriate amount of water they need throughout the day. The
students can be late to class trying to find water, which will cut into their learning time. Access to free,
potable, and appealing drinking water in schools is important because children spend substantial time
in school settings, and students may come to school already dehydrated (Pantel). This text explains the
importance of having proper water fountains in school. Students and faculty at Lawrenceburg High
School need new water fountain, because it will be very beneficial to the school as a whole.
OBJECTIVES
The objective of this research proposal is for Lawrenceburg HIgh School to receive functional water
fountains with notable water filtration system. New water fountains at Lawrenceburg High School
would be very beneficial. New water fountains with a better filtration system means water being saved
on the school budget, allowing students to get enough hydration, and being very troublesome to
anyone who wants to use them. The new water fountains will allow students proper

The Inventions Of The Cotton Gin During The Industrial...
During the Industrial Revolution, many inventions were produced. In 1793, Eli Whitney invented the
cotton gin. Eli Whitney was a farm boy and was trying to make a name for himself as a manufacturer.
About a few days later, he developed a machine to restructure the cotton industry. The pasteurization
was created by Louis Pasteur in 1864. Louis Pasteur was a chemistry professor and was studying
fermentation. He created this invention for beer because there was trouble with brewing and kept
going bad while no one knew why. There is a big time difference between the year date they were both
created. They both have been known for many years and are still being used to this day. These two
inventions have made a huge impact throughout history and people s lives. Cotton has been known for
many years, but it was not used as much as compared to today. For many years, the only way to
separate the cotton seeds from its fibers was to pull them out by hand. It was a very slow and hard
occupation. The way the cotton gin worked was by; the cotton needs to fall through the feeder hopper,
goes through a place where it comes into the wire teeth, which seizes the fibers for the seeds and
comes out of the machine. Although the cotton gin was a very advantageous machine, it affected many
slaves. It came with a number of unintended consequences, especially towards slavery. During this
era, cotton was the most arduous plant since the seeds needed to be removed and that was a wearying
process.

Mercer Self Insurance Case Summary
A third alternative is to see if a carrier with a National accounts division would consider writing
Mercer on a large account basis. This approach would appear to provide greater stability since Mercer
would stand on its own merit and not necessarily be lumped together with other transportation
companies. Mercer s size and ability to retain risk makes this option more attainable at this juncture
than it has been in the past.
Another option is to consider self insurance. There are several advantages to self insurance which
include low cost, the ability to manage claims more effectively when losses for both frequency, and
severity are predictable, better cash flow, an opportunity to engage services by outside vendors or
internally by staff members of your organization. The disadvantages include certificate insurance
requirements becoming problematic, few services provided by the excess insurers, state and ... Show

As presented previously, a captive reduces long term costs and operating costs, provides investment
income and profit which are only taxed when repatriated, provides for broader more stable coverage,
direct re insurance access, and fewer regulatory restrictions. The disadvantages include long term
capitalization commitment, internal administrative costs, potential for inadequate reserving, and
complex taxation issues. Mercer s management has not been inclined to form a captive therefore we
will only recommend one if it becomes necessary in order to obtain reasonable renew terms. This may
become more pressing since the market for large transportation risks has been shrinking. We are
uncertain whether we will be able to find an insurance carrier willing to provide policies for the
coverage required by Mercer without the use of a captive. An example of this would be the inability to
obtain a primary Trucker s Liability or Automobile Physical Damage quote on any basis other than

Comedy Of Errors
Roland Barthes has said, Literature is the question minus the answer. This pretty much means that it
raises questions that it doesn t always answer; it leaves us to think larger about themes and issues. In
The Comedy of Errors the play questions how strong is the power of love with family. The multiple
problems people go through in this play help us understand that humans can suffer without a loving
and stable family. In Shakespeare s view he s saying how family matters in this play and what they go
through to find their family again is meaningful, people will do anything to find their family again.
Egeon, Antipholus of Syrcause and Aemilia want to find their family again. The tragedy, isolation and
misunderstandings the characters go ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He s saying that fixing broken bonds shows that love can fix any tragedy, misunderstanding and
isolation within this play. Shakespeare made it so Egeon was searching for his family for five summer
lands in Ephesus, where his family got lost in. He also makes it so Antipholus and Dromio of Syracuse
search to find their family when he turns eighteen. Their devotion of searching for loved ones was so
strong that they ended up in Ephesus. The determination shows us that Antipholus and Dromio of
Syracuse and Egeon didn t give up finding their family, they kept searching for years. Antipholus and
Dromio of Syracuse and Egeon ending up in Ephesus was the first step to finding their family, they
started on the right path. The quest they are seeking was influenced with love and devotion.
Shakespeare uses Antipholus of Ephesus not knowing about his twin brother an advantage so the play
has some problems. Also, to have the family come together and realize they have a

The World Press Freedom Index Essay
RWB was founded in 1985 in France. At the beginning, the organization promoted alternative
journalism to later change its focus towards press freedom. Even though RWB is most famous for its
annual World Press Freedom Index, another important sphere of its activity is related to assistance to
journalists assigned to dangerous areas. In order to develop the 2010 index, RWB sent a questionnaire
to about 130 correspondents in the world, among them journalists, researchers, attorneys and human
rights activists. The questionnaire consisted of 43 questions, divided in seven sections: (1) Physical
violence, (2) Number of journalists killed, arrested, physically attacked or threatened, and the role of
government officials in those cases, (3) Indirect threats, harassment, and access to information, (4)
Censorship and self censorship, (5) Control of media, (6) Judicial, business, and administrative
pressures, and (7) Internet and new media. However, none of these sections included questions about
the media ownership structure norneither about the media ownership structure nor about their
economic concentration in private hands. The questions in the section Control of media only inquire if
there are privately owned media in the country and if they are free to determine their editorial policy .
And with regard to independent media, the questionnaire assumes that they are privately owned. The
same section asks about unjustified layoffs of journalists, but only with regardconcerning to

Causes of American War of Independence
The Causes of American War of Independence The American Revolutionary War (1775 1783), also
known as the American War of Independence, was a conflict that erupted between Great Britain and
revolutionaries within thirteen British colonies, who declared their independence as the United States
of America in 1776. The war was the culmination of the American Revolution, a colonial struggle
against political and economic policies of the British Empire. The war eventually widened far beyond
British North America; many Native Americans also fought on both sides of the conflict. Throughout
the war, the British were able to use their naval superiority to capture and occupy coastal cities, but

under arms. Many of the rest served as orderlies, mechanics, laborers, servants, scouts and guides,
although more than half died in smallpox epidemics that swept the British forces, and a number were
driven out of the British lines when food ran low. Despite Dunmore s promises, the majority were not
given their freedom. Due to manpower shortages, Washington lifted the ban on black enlistment in the
Continental Army in January 1776. All black units were formed in Rhode Island and Massachusetts;
many were slaves promised freedom for serving in lieu of their masters. Another all black unit came
from Haiti with French forces. At least 5,000 black soldiers fought for the Revolutionary cause. Most
American Indians east of the Mississippi River were affected by the war, with many communities
dividing over the question of how to respond to the conflict. Most Native Americans who joined the
fight fought against the United States, since native lands were threatened by expanding American
settlement. An estimated 13,000 warriors fought on the British side; the largest group, the Iroquois
Confederacy, fielded about 1,500 men. War in the north, 1775 1777 Before the war, Boston,

Pros And Cons Of Substance Dualism
The argument of the two articles is that substance dualism (sometimes aka Cartesian Dualism) is not a
viable theory. Substance dualism is the theory that the immaterial mind and the material body are
separate substances with independent existences. The authors shined light on how substance dualism
has flaws and how the substantial soul cannot exist distinct from the physical body. In the article A
Buddhist take on Gilbert Ryle s Theory of Mind , author Chien Te Lin used Ryle s views, along with
Buddhist views to show how substance dualism cannot have the soul separate from the body. The

Analysis Of The Sunning God By Caleb Chavez
The Sunning God
By: Caleb Chavez
It was a somewhat normal day as it started the constant birds chirping, the smell of pie that the
Neighbors cooked, and the taste of morning breakfast. My younger brother Bon and I were off the
school that morning. We don t go to a normal school due to the war. We went to a knight school where
they taught us how to use weapons. But what we didn t know is that day would be the worst day of our
lives. While we were gone our mother had been cleaning up the house, the house was hollow wood
with no door and one window. It smelled like a farm and looked like a barn.
It was still home, while our mother was cooking. A man dressed in dark clothes from foot to hat.

awkward so I have my scythe in my bag which gives me the look of a farmer, but I do carry around a
sword as my weapon. I decided to call it a night and check in the tavern to sleep. The tavern was small
and run down, perfect for sleeping. It wasn t until midnight when I heard screams outside my window.
I got up really fast to find the village under attack. The war was moving fast and we have to move
faster. I ran towards the door, and looked at my sword. When I started to reach for I stopped and
grabbed my scythe. When I reached outside there was three men surrounding some women. I yelled to
leave her alone and when they turned around they laughed due to the scythe. I yelled again then one
man charged at me with a sword slicing through the wind.
I ducked as quickly as I could and turned around and swung my scythe piercing one the man. I wanted
to say not so funny is it, but before I could the next two came at me. Both had long axes, which is also
two handed. They were going to swing from both sides and pierce me, which honestly is a very risky
move. Due to ducking, if I would duck they would hit each other. So I decided to pull one of my own

Personal Learning Environment Review Literature Review
Review Literature
Personal learning environment refers to personalized learning which located the learner at the center
of the learning process. There are many definitions of a personal learning environment in literature
and they describe the practice of personal learning environment as a system of learning or learning
approach. One of the new definition of personal learning environment that describes personal learning
environment as Web 2.0 tools and services by which users access, construct, manage, and share
educational contents in order to meet their learning needs (Şahin Uluyol, 2016). In addition, a personal
learning environment is a space for the learner to create, explore and communicate (Dalsgaard 2006,

participation in learning activities (Chatti, Dakova, Thüs, Schroeder, 2013; Marin, Negre, Perez, 2014;

Russell s Controversies In The Labour Party
These two political parties have always been rivals. The labour party are more for helping the poor
and making everyone equal, whereas the conservatives are take a much more right wing approach to
things and always have the rich peoples life s at heart. The Tories have always disagreed with labour
and what they stand for. They hardly ever agree on policies or how the county should be run. This is
shown through the characters of Lionel and Gerald in the play. It s treated with a comedy aspect and it
shows how the two parties are different. We see Lionel as a simpleton and enjoys life s simple
pleasures. Whereas Gerald is seen as a stuck up character who expects everything to be ready and
presented to him. He also creates the idea of the Tories ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is a key time in politics as its election year, not only election year but it was the year labour
dethroned the Tories 18 year reign. Tony Blair took charge of the party and became prime minister.
During the 18 years of the Tories being in power Margret Thatcher was a big talking point and caused
many controversies with her in power, she was dubbed The Iron Lady. One of the major controversies
was the poll tax. This caused uproar between the countries because it was seen as unfair towards the
working class people. This caused Riots and disharmony between the people of Britain.
Thatcher s reign was coming to an end as she was losing support from her party and John Major took
over. Major had to deal with the bad luggage left over from the thatcher reign as the gulf war was
happening and Major had some issues and decisions to make about the country. Although he won the
next election he was in, his popularity was declining and he was voted out of the party and then
reigned as Prime minister, paving the way for labour to take charge.
If you look into the play and think about it, you could say that the death of Gerald could be the symbol
of the death of the Tories and labour (Lionel) taking his seat. The Tories reign ended in 1997 and this
is when the play is set. You could only assume that it s what the play wants you to feel or see.

Improvements As A Writer And Thinker
Improvements as a Writer and Thinker Reflecting as a writer and thinker I have noticed tremendous
improvements in my work. My whole thought process and way of viewing topics has changed, giving
me a better understanding when I write. In the beginning of the term I ran into many problems in
College Writing I for instance, I was not too familiar with writing in MLA format and struggled
reaching the page count. I found myself to procrastinate when papers were assigned making my
anxiety levels increase. Despite my struggles as a writer and thinker, I learned how to overcome these
obstacles. I learned to be open minded and looking at topics from another perspective. In the
beginning of the term I was assigned an essay that described me as a writer and thinker. With this
essay being my first assignment, I was quite stressed with the feeling of failure. After this assignment I
learned the importance of the drafting system. After my paper was graded I received it back and
noticed multiple mistakes. This was the first step I practiced improving. Writing multiple drafts helped
me analysis the material I wrote from another point of view. For example, I was able to eliminate
sections that were unrelated from the main point. Building my vocabulary up another step I had focus
as a writer and thinker. I used a combination between the dictionary and thesaurus to help me increase
my vocabulary. Overtime with experience, I saw improvements in all of these categories that I was

The Effect of World War I on Britain Economically and Socially The outbreak of the war in August
1914 produced immediate changes. It is often said that war is the locomotive of history that is what
drives it along. Certainly the First World War helped to produce major changes in British government,
society, the economy and industrial relations. The war produced political turmoil. In 1915 Prime
Minister Asquith formed a coalition government, and the following year he was replaced as premier
by Lloyd George, who gave a new impetus to the direction of the war. He believed in greater state
intervention built upon the abandonment of laissez faire. The powers of the state had grown

Electric power was used more than ever before. The removal of so many skilled workers had initially
threatened an economic collapse but had in fact stimulated the much needed mechanisation. The
efficiency of agriculture had also increased, with the widespread introduction of the tractor. Such
changes however, although at a slower pace, might have occurred even without the war. The same
cannot be said for the high numbers of casualities incurred. A productive section of the workforce had
been lost. In addition Britain still had to pay the financial costs of the war. Massive amounts of money
had been borrowed and still had to be repaid. Valuable overseas markets had been lost. During the war
massive investment in the staple industries had taken place. But once the war was over the demand of
these products fell. The decline of the staple industries was also the main reason for the bitter
industrial relations which developed in post war Britain. During the war actually industrial relations
had improved. Trade unions reacted patriotically to the outbreak of was and a spirit of collaboration
developed between them and the government. The Treasury Agreement was signed in 1915 which
specified that unions involved in vital war work would not strike. In return they were promised that
the old arrangements would be resumed after the war. It was only a voluntary agreement, but in July

Essay about Alexis deTocqueville
Alexis deTocqueville
Alexis de Tocqueville was born in Paris on July 29th, 1805. Growing up in Metz, France, the youngest
child of Hervé Tocqueville and Mlle. De Rosanbo, he showed great intellectual promise from his
earliest days. By the age of 16, his academic career was a brilliant one, his schoolwork earning him a
special prize and two first prizes. He was an avid reader, reading books hardly accessible to a boy of
his young age. It was during these years that he developed his critical thinking and reasoning skills
that would serve him so well later in life. In 1831, Alexis and his friend and colleague Gustave de

Mayer writes in Tocqueville s biography that he read at this time with a tireless appetite the works of
Plato, Plutarch, Machiavelli, Rousseau, and Montesquieu, and it would seem that in these same years

Regardless of his influences, Tocqueville s most serious concern is that democracy may give rise to
certain forms of despotism. Without local institutions...the despotic tendencies which have been driven
into the interior of the social body will sooner or later break out on the surface. In the introductory
chapter to Democracy in America, Tocqueville expresses his famous opinion that the movement of the
history of Christendom over the course of the previous 700 years has invariably been in the direction
of democratic equality. This is the foundation of Tocqueville s inevitability theory. He implies that
democracy in inevitable in the same way that the spread of civilization and enlightenment are
inevitable. Best known for his popular critique, Democracy in America, first published in

Judith Butler Informative Acts And Gender Constitution...
Judith Butler, in her essay Performative Acts and Gender Constitution , claims that there is no
gendered self. As opposed to Simone de Beauvoir, who believes that sex is biologically determined
and gender is a social construct, Butler believes that sex can only be read through gender, making
them both constructs. Butler argues that the male/female binary is unstable and invalid. She states that
what is called gender identity is a performative accomplishment compelled by social sanction and

Butler analyzes sex and gender through a phenomenological framework. Phenomenology is the study
of structures of consciousness as experienced from the first person point of view. Butler claims that

for estimating the plastic zone size under creep and fatigue, and Equations (1) and (2) show that the
size of plastic zone will reduce with increasing yield strength of AA alloy.
3. Discussion
It is generally assumed that the crack growth rate of coarse grain is lower than that of fine grain, and
the fatigue crack growth resistance can be improved by increasing the grain size [79]. Reasons can be
mainly concluded by the following three aspects [80,81], i.e., first, grain boundary is weakened under
high temperature, and cracks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lots of experimental results indicate that the grain size can significantly affect the fatigue crack
growth rate of AA alloy.
However, the experimental results in this study indicate that with decreasing grain size the fatigue
crack growth rate of AA alloy becomes smaller and smaller. Therefore, the fatigue crack growth
resistance increases with decreasing grain size. This is opposite to the prevailing effect of grain size on
fatigue crack growth rate. The main reasons are concluded as follows:
(1) Previous experimental results indicate that the amount of η Ni3Al0.5Nb0.5 phase can significantly
affect the DFCGR property of AA alloy. The η Ni3Al0.5Nb0.5 phase mainly plays a role of pinning
grain boundary and retarding the intergranular diffusion of oxygen. Thus, the crack growth at grain
boundaries can be retarded, and the notch sensitivity of the alloy can be avoided. Therefore, more the
η Ni3Al0.5Nb0.5 phase, the fatigue crack growth rate of the alloy can be reduced favourably. Figure 1
shows that the amount and morphology of η Ni3Al0.5Nb0.5 phase precipitated from AA alloy with
different grain sizes are different under the same thermal treatments. With decreasing grain size, both
the grain boundary area of the alloy and the amount of η Ni3Al0.5Nb0.5 phase increase, and the
ability of grain boundary pinning and grain boundary oxygen diffusion retarding are significantly
enhanced, thus the fatigue crack growth rate will reduce

Mercutio In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
There are many different characteristics that can qualify a person as a true friend. Everyone has
different ideas about what these characteristics are, but many people would say that a true friend is
trustworthy, altruistic, and loving. In his famous play, Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare
conveys the importance of true friendship through the character Mercutio, who has a caring, selfless,
and honest personality.
Mercutio is a sincere friend because he is selfless and will do almost anything for his friends. When
Tybalt visits the Montagues and a fight breaks out, Mercutio tells Tybalt make haste, lest mine be
about your ears ere it be out (3.1.76 77). By utilizing the phrase make haste, Shakespeare illustrates
Mercutio as a powerful and commanding individual. Mercutio is neither Montague nor Capulet, but he
chooses to stand up for his friends and help them fight because he wants to assist the people he cares
for. A true friend will risk dignity, reputation, or, in this case, their life to support friends. ... Show

Shakespeare depicts this characteristic in many scenes, but it is most evident when Mercutio says
sometimes [Queen Mab] gallops o er a courtier s nose (1.4.79). Mercutio was telling Romeo how
Rosaline, the woman Romeo liked, was just going to break Romeo s heart. Shakespeare communicates
Mercutio s thought by referring to Queen Mab, a fairy who makes men fall in love with her while
dreaming and then break the men s hearts. According to the Oxford Dictionary Online, the definition
of caring is displaying kindness and concern for others. In this section, Mercutio is shown as a caring
friend because he is attempting to warn Romeo of what Rosaline could possibly do, which is an
example of showing

Hardships on Cold Mountain
The events one goes through in his or her life often shapes the person he or she becomes. The
challenges faced early in life work to strengthen one s personality and enable them to live and

Ruby has had to face while growing up. These hardships added to the person that she became and
made her strong enough to face the obstacles that come later in life. In being faced with many
obstacles in life Ruby was able to learn from them, become a stronger person and therefore survive.

Without the presence of her father most of the time Ruby had to learn to survive on her own. While
Stobrod would leave her for day or weeks at a times Ruby had to foraged for wild food. Grubbed for
roots, caught fish on traps she twisted together out of willow boughs. Ruby was forced too mature
quickly in order to survive with these problems. Other than the lack of a father Ruby also had to
overcome external hardships, living in conditions less than adequate: They lived in a dirt cabin, little
better than a roofed pen. She had slept on a kind of miniature loft platform, just a shelf, really. Ruby
awoke many a morning with an inch of snow atop her pile of quilts, because there was no ceiling. (Pg.
105) It is apparent that Ruby was not given the life of luxury that Ada had, and was put in a situation
where she either had to learn to live, or die.
Ruby used these hardships in her early life to succeed later on. The survival skills Ruby was forced to
learn as a child to survive, helped support her and Ada while staying with Ada. When Ruby first meets
Ada, she realizes that Ada is in the same situation she was as a child. Ada is alone in the world, and
does not even have the drive the Ruby had to survive. Ruby uses the knowledge she has gained
through her life to teach Ada what she needs to know to survive and flourish. Although Ruby could
just as easily have done the work and let Ada be she goes out

Designing A New Design For A Distributed Operating System
As the Chief Information Officer working in my business, I will be proposing a new design for the
current network to attempt to improve the quality and productivity of 250 client computers and 50
servers. My first decision would be to opt to change the system to a distributed operating system
(DOS). I would choose this course of action because instead of centralizing all the resources on one
server, which could lead to problems in the event of a hardware failure, you could distribute them
across multiple instances decreasing the likelihood of system outages, and making errors easier to deal
with ( Definition of Distributed n.d). Although this model will be much more expensive to implement,
I believe that it will lead to better growth in the future. The reliability of the network will be increased,
which leaves room for improvement, adding more client systems, or even servers. Updating the
operating system to a distributed operating system will increase the overall size and reliability of the
database for subscribers to use. The current server operating system would be Windows Server 2003. I
d make minor changes to the server operating system upgrading to a later version like 2008 or 2012. I
chose Windows over Linux, MAC, and other server OS because I think its performance is suitable for
this type of environment. Windows itself has a high support for most functions (Janowski, 2003).
While Linux is a good operating system, getting support in my opinion would be

The Basis Of The Big Bang Theory
There has always been a stigma relating to The Big Bang Theory for me personally. I previously
before this class thought that believing in the Big Bang Theory meant I was against my religious
beliefs. But throughout this class, I gained the knowledge necessary to believe in both lines of
creation. The Big Bang theory now helps me belief stronger in my religious beliefs. As we learned
about the theory and dug deep into the roots of the universe I found myself learning to observe science
with a religious outlook and how to apply the science to my faith. The Big Bang theory was
introduced by Georges Lemaître a Belgian Catholic Priest in 1927. Lemaître expanded upon previous
universe knowledge by concluding The Big Bang from research in the Hubble Law. The basis of the
Big Bang is deriving from the redshifting of distant stars and galaxies. Redshifting is the change of
light which shows the chemical makeup, movement, and distance the particular star or galaxy is from
us. Using this knowledge Lemaître was able to conclude that the universe is expanding and other
galaxies are shifting away from each other. All the way up until the 18th century it was debated if the
universe was infinite or finite. This was put to rest when Hubble was able to view the universe more
precisely than others of his time. Within the theory of the Big Bang, it can easily be simplified. The
theory suggests that 13.8 billion years ago at a destination in the Universe in a state of extreme density

Three events are associated with the Cuban Missile Crisis: superpower tension, the domestic situation
in Cuba, and the Bay of Pigs incident. The ideological competition between Russia and the U.S. was
exemplified in the arms, nuclear and space race, the funding of anti Communists by the U.S., the
unsuccessful Vienna Summit of 1961 and the construction of the Berlin Wall.
In 1958, Kruschev had asked NATO to give up West Berlin to East Germany and by the summer of
1961, Kruschev and Kennedy met during the Vienna Summit, where Kruschev insisted upon East
German control over West Berlin. On August 13, the Soviets and East Germans built a wall that
limited free means of access between the Western and Eastern zones. American and Soviet forces
confronted each other at Checkpoint Charlie, which controlled the passage across.
The U.S. eventually agreed with the wall s construction in November 1961, resolving the Berlin
Crisis. However, Kruschev had not yet gotten what he wanted. According to him, the installation of
Soviet missiles in Cuba could be to negotiate over Berlin. Kennedy might replace the removal of
Soviet Cuban missiles with retreat from West Berlin.

Essay on Pressure Ulcer Prevention Repositioning
Pressure Ulcer Prevention Repositioning
Introduction
Pressure ulcers are one of the most common problems health care facilities often face which causes
pain and discomfort for the patient, cost effective to manage and impacts negatively on the hospital
(Pieper, Langemo, Cuddigan, 2009; Padula et al., 2011). The development of pressure ulcers occur
when there is injury to the skin or tissue usually over bony prominences such as the coccyx, sacrum or
heels from the increase of pressure and shear. This injury will compromise blood flow and result in
ischemia due to lack of oxygen being delivered (Gyawali et al., 2011). Patients such as those who are
critically ill or bed bounded are at high risk of developing pressure ulcers (O Brien et ... Show more

Most mobile patients are able to reposition themselves, while others who are critically ill are not able
to feel or respond to pain. Therefore, nurses need to assess those patients in repositioning to decrease
the risk of developing pressure ulcers (REF).
Nurses need to realise what they are looking for when performing skin assessments for patients. A
study conducted by Thoroddsen et al (2013), found that out of 45 patients that had pressure ulcers
only 27 were correctly recorded in the patient s records.
A study conducted over seven years by Amir et al (2011) showed a significant decline of pressure
ulcer development after three years of the study. This was partly due to strategies being implemented
in regards to repositioning along with adequate nutrition, pressure ulcer prevention information
leaflets were given to patients and skin assessments (Amir et al., 2011). It must also be considered that
different patients will have different comorbidities and the use of a risk assessment tool is vital to
assess and implementing a plan for pressure ulcer prevention according to the patient s score (Tannen
et al., 2010).
Frequency of Repositioning
The timing of position changes for pressure ulcer prevention is very limited in the studies that were
researched. A study found that adults who were frequently turned every two to three hours did not
develop as much pressure ulcers compared to those who were turned less regularly (Lyder

The Gospel According To The Gospel Of Luke
Introduction to the Gospel according to Luke
Before we begin our series on the Gospel according to Luke, let us have a look at what this gospel
focuses on and what makes it unique compared to the other three gospels. The Gospel of Luke was
probably the last to be written, between 59AD and 70AD. It is thought to have been written by Luke, a
Greek, a physician and a companion of the Apostle Paul. Though personal information about his life is
non existent and like the other synoptics, the author does not clearly identify himself within the text.
One of the few times Luke is mentioned is by Paul, in Colossians 4:14, it says Our dear friend Luke,
the doctor and Demas send greetings, indicating that Luke was travelling with him at this time. ...

Even though it is written in more of a Greek style, its subject matter covers the concerns of Christians,
rather than the Greco Roman world. Luke uses an extensive prologue to introduce his gospel, which is
not seen in the other gospels. Luke 1:3 4 says with this in mind, since I myself have carefully
investigated everything from the beginning, I too decided to write an orderly account for you, most
excellent Theophilus, so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught. This
formal introduction is not only Greek in nature, setting out the subject, purpose, method and audience,
but is addressed to Theophilus, a name that means Lover of God or friend of God. This could be an
individual, as it was a name given to men of authority or it could have simply been addressing every
Christian. Here he writes to inform Theophilus of his intention, which is to lead the reader through an
account of events, this was not to justify the Christian belief, but to encourage the faith of those who
did believe. What makes Luke so interesting is that it is the only gospel to have a sequel, which is the
book of Acts. It is believed that Luke and Acts were written as a two part volume, with the style of
writing and length being similar. Acts even begins by Luke addressing Theophilus, In my former
book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach. (Acts

Saudi Arabia Essays
In the heart of the Middle East is a country known by many Westerners for its oil production and,
often, extremist beliefs of groups within the country. The country is Saudi Arabia, and though it is
thought of by many as a rather backward country, Saudi Arabia has a rich history and culture, and it is
a country that revolves around Islam and the worship of Allah as the one true God.
For about fifteen hundred years, Saudi Arabia s history has centered on one major theme: Islam.
Muhammad, the founder of Islam, was born around 570 A.D. in the city of Mecca. Early in the 7th
century A.D., according to Islamic belief, Muhammad, while meditating in a cave on Mount Hira, was
visited by the angel Gabriel. Gabriel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then, in the mid 1700s, Saudi ruler Muhammad ibn Saud, from the Saud dynasty, forged an alliance
with a religious reformer named Muhammad ibn Abd al Wahhab. Ibn Abd al Wahhab was discontent
with the growing disregard for Islamic teachings in Arabia. He taught that the people should return to
strict observance and practice of Islamic laws. Adherents to this belief, called Wahhabis, were backed
by the armies of the Saud dynasty, and together, these forces began a movement. Areas that converted
to Wahhabi beliefs were taken over by the Saud family, thus increasing the size of the Saudi State.
However, by 1891, most Saudi control of Arabia was taken by tribal chiefs and by the Ottoman
Empire. Then, in 1902, a young Saudi leader named Abd al Aziz ibn Saud began to reclaim land that
his ancestors had lost. He also sought diligently to revive the Wahhabi movement, which heavily
emphasized the Islamic beliefs and strict adherence to them. In 1932, Ibn Saud unified the regions he
conquered into one state an Islamic state that he dubbed the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Throughout the next fifty years, under the reign of Ibn Saud and his descendents, Saudi Arabia grew
wealthier as a nation, while striving to keep its Islamic values at the same time. In 1982, King Fahd
came to the throne. He sought to maintain Saudi Arabia traditional Islamic values, while he also
strived to create more globally

Are Humans Striving To Survive Research Paper
Do humans still strive to survive no matter what the circumstances? Humans have been striving to
survive, pushing themselves to keep going and not give up for many years no matter what the
circumstances. They have faced many obstacles and managed to overcome them. Looking back at
ancient life, humans had to start from the beginning to sustain life. For example, the ancient Egyptians
survived by the technology they developed. In today s society, we start where our previous generation
ended; causing an exponential growth in terms of technology. Technology is the key to surviving in
this world. Humans learned how to survive in the ancient times by developing innovative technology,
however, it came at a cost. Advancing technology forces humans to advance along with it. Agriculture

Smallpox is considered as an acute contagious disease that is induced by the variola virus. It used to
be one of the world s most disastrous diseases known to mankind. The last known natural case was in

Presently, vaccines have an outstanding safety record and most vaccine scares are just false alarms or
myths. In that respect are several benefits when it comes to vaccination, which includes helping in
eradication, elimination and prevention of diseases, it helps in reducing mortality and morbidity rates
and other complications. Vaccines can help in increasing the life expectancy rates by protecting
against diseases. In developing countries vaccination programs are believed to be the cornerstones of
primary health care services. There are also certain limitation or risks to having vaccinations and its
side effects varies in different individuals. For instance, few people may endure from a mild reaction
to a certain vaccine and definitely it is short lived. It is far better to be safe than sorry. The hazards of
having serious infections or diseases that can be fatal is way greater than taking a chance of
experiencing a serious consequence. Using a vaccine is much cheaper compared to treating a serious
illness. The most severe allergic reaction following an administration of a vaccine is called an
anaphylactic reaction. The person may experience difficulty in breathing and sometime may collapse.
This is extremely rare and the vaccination staff is trained to deal with such events. These reactions are

The Character Of Naomi Nakane In Obasan, By Joy Kogawa
Naomi is always the good, silent child who does what s expected of her, she takes whatever is given to
her, for awhile without any complaints. In Joy Kogawa s novel, Obasan, the main character, Naomi
Nakane, chronicles her life with distance, and it is through minor character like her brother, Stephen,
and their actions that we see the depth and impact of Naomi s passive nature.
At the start of the book, Naomi describes herself as being a part of her mother, like a branch to a tree.
She often hides behind her mother and is completely silent. Stephen on the other hand, is the star

Voter Id Issues
What are the significant issues related to the recent revisions to voter ID laws?
The IDs help from impersonation and that makes a lot of people confidence in the election process.
They feel that it is important that voter s proof of identity requirements is essential to avoid voter
fraud and protect election honesty. By doing that many Americans don t have the requirements to
obtain a government voter Id because of low income. Many Americans don t have the funds to pay for
the mandatory documents needed to secure a government issued photo ID. The people has the right to
vote because its protected by more constitutional amendments. By putting restriction such as requiring
Ids when many Americans can t afford them leaving them out from voting

The Public Company Accounting Oversight Board
The Sarbanes Oxley Act created the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) to
assume the responsibility of overseeing the auditors of public companies. The PCAOB is a private
sector, non profit corporation. It was established to protect the interests of investors and further the
public interests in the preparation of informative, fair, and independent audit reports . (The PCAOB)
Although the PCAOB is a private sector organization, it has many government like regulatory
functions. The PCAOB was created in response to an increasing number of accounting restatements
by public companies during the 1990s and a series of recent high profile scandals like Enron and
WorldCom. Prior to the PCAOB, the audit industry was self regulated ... Show more content on

Many firms are upset by this rule because of its limitations. However, I believe that this new rule is a
good idea. Previous engagements between firms and clients have been given a large notice of when
the rule will be in effect. They are given plenty of time to finish their engagements. This new rule may
allow small firms more possibilities to increase their clientele. We may be moving away from having a
small number of large firms doing all the services to having many firms providing the services. Also,
Rule 3523 will ensure independence.
Another issue that has arisen since the establishment of the PCAOB is the increased compliance costs.
In 2007, the PCAOB has been awarded a budget of 136,429,000 dollars by the SEC. Of that amount,
79,514,000 dollars will be used to pay for salaries. (The PCAOB) The PCAOB s budget is paid by
public companies through fees and audit firms through fines. These fines can reach 100,000 dollars for
individual auditors and up to 2 million dollars for audit firms. Many firms have increased their audit
fees due to the increase in costs, partly due to the PCAOB. The PCAOB continues to grow each year.
Their powers and responsibilities continue to grow, which in turn will lead to a larger budget. The
SEC should take into consideration these additional fees for businesses and auditing firms when they
determine the salaries of employees. The average salary for each employee is over 150,000 dollars,
which is a substantial

Theatre Personal Statement Essay
What got you interested in Theatre?
My interest in theatre started when I was living in Spain. My parents started a theatre company with
other military and US teachers. From the ages of 4 9, I got to play small roles or work backstage on
plays ranging from Shakespeare to Neil Simon. Where did you study and how long did it take?
In Undergrad, I majored in theatre and opera. Immediately after graduating I continued my studies in
theatre and opera performance in graduate school. The overall time in University was 7 years. After
Graduate school, I continued to train as an actor in NYC for three years at Terry Schreiber Studios.
How about your time on television, how did it differ from your theatre experience?
Having an understanding of Stanislavski s concentration exercises and the magic as if made it much
easier to focus acting to fit the lens. The other difference between film and TV is the order in which
the story is revealed. In a play, we start at page 1 and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I have many favorite memories, but here are two. When I was working on CYRANO DE
BERGERAC at the Walnut St. Theatre. The profoundly talented actor, Alan Scarfe was playing
Cyrano. Every moment I wasn t onstage, I stayed in the wings to watch his performance; particularly
the last scene where CYRANO dies. Oh, the simplicity of delivering heightened language and pure
emotion he was able to conjure!! Some of the best training I ve ever had.
The second memory was when I was cast in a National Tour of SHLEMIEL THE FIRST. The super
star here was the director, David Gordon, whom I had the privilege to work with several times after
the tour. David Gordon is one of the best movement based directors I ve ever worked with. He was a
master choreographer for the actor and could get a room full of people with different skill sets to
create stunning moving images. Also, I got my Equity Card from this tour and was cast in the

Alfred Hitchcock Film Analysis
I ve gone on the record as saying I like Alfred Hitchcock s films, though I only really love one so far (
Psycho ). My admiration for Hitchcock, along with the number of his films I love, increased after we
watched his beloved Vertigo in my class. It may have barely surpassed Psycho as my favorite
Hitchcock film. This film stars James Stewart as John Scottie Ferguson, a San Francisco detective
forced to quit the force after a traumatizing event causes him to develop acrophobia. He soon takes up
a case as a sort of private eye, however, when an old acquaintance from college asks him to
investigate the strange habits of his wife (Kim Novak). Stewart obliges, with dire consequences. One
of the surprises in this film, for me, was Stewart as Scottie, who performed excellently. I like Jimmy
Stewart, but I ve never been as enamored with him as some movie buffs. That has changed some, as I
think this is his best performance I ve seen. He makes you care for his character and believe his
motivations and feelings for the first portion of the movie. He struggles a bit in the emotional scenes,
but he still succeeds in evoking our sympathy. By the end of the film, his performance takes a
remarkable turn and he becomes genuinely disturbing. It s brilliant. Kim Novak is also great as
Madeleine Elster, the wife Stewart s character follows. She has a creepy, disturbing quality about her
during that first part of the movie that works quite well. Later, her performance takes a turn,

The external job description is the one you post for potential applicants. It lists the title and essential

Stravinsky s In The Night
Neither the lighthearted Interplay nor (surprisingly, given the excellent cast and Chopin s music) the
more serious In the Night made for particularly compelling watching during the first segment of the
All Robbins No. 3 program. Nevertheless, I certainly wouldn t mind seeing either again, especially the
latter. By contrast, despite having seen the ballet often during the past few years, the performance of
The Cage fascinated me. This ballet contains some of the most inventive and original choreography
for both soloists and corps in the entire NYCB repertoire. Stravinsky s score is appealing throughout,

Triangle Fire Research Paper
Karley M. Vahl #27 7 G Monday, April 23, 2018 Friday, May 4, 2018 The Triangle Factory Fire at the
Asch Building What happened the day of the Triangle Fire? What progressed after it? On Saturday,
March 25, 1911. At 4:25, which was 5 minutes before closing time at the Triangle Shirt Factory. The
Triangle factory, owned by Max Blanck and Isaac Harris, was located on the top three floors of the
Asch Building, floors 8, 9, and 10. Some cutters were smoking, even though it was prohibited.
Though it is not certain, people believe that a cutter flicked a cigarette butt or hot ash, into one of the
waste bins with flammable cloth in them. Many of the garment workers before the year of 1911 were
unorganized, mostly because they were young immigrant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This incident has had great significance to this day because it highlights the inhumane working
conditions. The Triangle Fire tragically illustrated that fire inspections and precautions were woefully
inadequate at the time. Outraged cries calling for action to improve the unsafe conditions in
workshops could be heard from every quarter, from the mainstream conservative to the progressive
and union press. The role that strong unions could have in helping prevent such tragedies became
clear. Workers organized in powerful unions would be more conscious of their rights and better able to
obtain safe working conditions. Immediately after the fire, Triangle owners Blanck and Harris
declared in interviews that their building was fireproof, and that it had just been approved by the
Department of Buildings, but the building lacked the third required staircase. On December 27, twenty
three days after the trial had started, a jury acquitted Blanck and Harris of any wrongdoing. Brought to
court, he was fined twenty dollars, and the judge apologized to him for the imposition. Twenty three
individual civil suits were brought against the owners of the Asch

The Feast Of The Goat Book Analysis
The Feast of the Goat by Mario Vargas LLosa
Much like Bolano, LLosa s book is also character driven It was speculation when I first started
reading Feast of the Goat but the further into the book I read, the more I come to know more about the
traumatic experiences taking place. The characters were driven with fear: the assassins who killed
Trujillo and Urania who recalled her experiences at her young during her encounter with Trujillo. For
example, in chapter twelve, Salvador spoke with Father Fortin about his mission to kill Trujillo. On
one hand, there was a side of him knowing the consequences of caring out the assassination and as he
put it, wondering once he killed a man if he would go to hell. On the other hand, there was a side of
him that drove him into understanding why Trujillo had to die. During his conversation with Father
Fortin, he spoke of Trujillo and his actions: What they re doing to the bishops, to the churches, that
disgusting campaign television, on the radio, in the papers (LLosa 184). He knew right away that he
had to cut off the hydra s head (184). Upon the issue regarding Urania, she and her Aunt Adelina recall
her father Agustin Cabral (Egghead) and about the letter in The Public Forum that lead to her dad
falling into disgrace. However as the story goes on the timeline does shift its course and ends up back
and forth between the events that occurred before and after what took place at the Mahogany house.

Essay on Ducati Case Study
February 1, 2014 Introduction:
Being a motorcycle company that produces high performance, highly successful racing motorcycles,
as well as motorcycles for the commercial market, has proven to be a winning strategy for Ducati.
This case focuses on Ducati Corse, a subsidiary of Ducati Motor Holding S.p.A. that manages racing
teams, bike development, promotions, and sponsorship areas of the company. Ducati Corse is a
relatively small organization that encourages cross departmental integration with its internal teams to
achieve the best motorcycle design and racing outcomes as possible. Ducati started racing in the new
MotoGP Circuit during the 2003 race season. With unexpected positive racing results, Ducati took the
data collected ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ducati s success was a combination of Ducati engineers passion for their work, their detailed attention
to the design process, and a well defined, developed method called the Ducati Method. The Ducati
Method helped lead to modular design via extensive use of CAD and simulation technology to
optimize the design before physically developing the components followed by intense testing to
validate the design.
Question 2: How did Ducati use data?
Processing, interpreting, and using real time data is a complex task which the Ducati engineers
employed with the help of other departments. They utilized rider feedback from the races, videos of
each race, track tests, data on race performance, and functional data acquired by on bike sensors.
Ducati used the data from the track to identify problems that could not be detected in simulation. This
type of data is excellent for measuring relative performance, evaluating structural stress loads,
drivetrain torque, and system temperatures. However, it can be greatly influenced by the driver and
environmental conditions. Data of this volume proved difficult to sift through, and additional staffers
were hired to tackle it for the 2004 season.
Question 3: What is your assessment of their approach?
We feel that Ducati s approach was ineffective due to the lack of a structured plan with clear priorities.
Ducati Corse tried to solve more problems than they were able, which seemed to result in missed

Hepburn s Influence On The Fashion Industry
Something old, something new; From razzle dazzle to refined, this year s styles do it all again
Today when brides talk about something old and something new, they are referring to one and the
same thing their bridal gowns. What we re seeing is a return to the 50s and 60s for inspiration, says
Patricia Kaneb of Priscilla. The fabrics and silhouettes are modern interpretations of the trend setting
styles worn by the most glamorous women of those times, like Audrey Hepburn, Jackie Onassis and
Grace Kelly. Why is this trend resurfacing now? For two reasons. One is the fashion industry s
renewed interest in the styles of Hepburn and Onassis. Hepburn s chic has been the subject of
numerous articles given the remake of her film Sabrina and the retirement this past year of her
couturier Givenchy. The recent death of Onassis has brought all of her Kennedy era photos out of
retirement with a beautiful book, A Thousand Days of Magic Dressing Jacqueline ... Show more

Reminiscences, lovely as they are, wouldn t be enough to so heavily influence the fashion industry if it
weren t for the second reason these styles have captured the modern woman s heart their simplicity.
Most women today are looking for simplicity and elegance, says Yolanda Celluci, owner of the
Waltham store that bears her name. She has seen a return to sleeveless sheath dresses with geometric
necklines and long gloves. Brides feel very elegant and beautiful in these classic gowns, and can
actually wear them again. Simplicity of design doesn t mean these dresses look plain. At Priscilla, the
bateau neckline of the Sabrina gowns are paired with a low

The And Skin Complexion That Was Fare
was straight textured and skin complexion that was fare. Because of this the first girlfriends I selected
where light skinned and had hair that was naturally straight in an attempt to please my mother and
support her ideal.
At a very basic level all human beings are animals and I hate to use this analogy because of the
negative connotation of using a animal in relation to ethnic people, but there is no other way for me to
express the connection between our humanity, preference and genetics, if we examine for instance a
canine it s easy to see the effects a pasts generations experience has had on the current reiteration of its
breed I.e., there is the obvious physical attributes muscularity and physical defenses claws teeth this is
part of evolution, but there is also there is an innate automatic reasoning (instinct) coupled with the
experiences and subsequent nurturing of a parental figure that will keep the young away from
potentially life threatening situations this culmination of nature and nurture is also prominent in the
human animal and even more so in the human beings that are preyed upon by other cultures for
example African Americans disassociating with there own people or showing dislike of there own skin
color. This reveals how there is a culture of fear associated with being African American that has been
inherited.

  • 2. Rumble Fish In thinking of film s that are able to exemplify many film elements that are put together in an interesting and organized manner the movie Rumble Fish comes to mind. The director Francis Ford Coppola demonstrates how metaphors are able to help decipher a deeper meaning of the film. Rumble Fish is a film that is about growing up and seeing new things that have never been seen before. The two main characters who are brothers Rusty James and the Motorcycle Boy, experience internal conflicts. Rusty James the younger of the two looks up to his brother and wants to be like him. However the elder has grown out of his previous demeanor of always fighting and he doesn t want his brother to follow in his steps. Throughout the film he ask Rusty ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The editing consists of shot reverse shot between the three characters, with distinct close ups that show detailed facial expressions. The Mise En Scene in this scene is limited compared to others, the lighting used is the standard used through most of the picture. The costumes are very realistic with Rusty James continuously wearing his tank top, however they are not elaborate. Coppola was able to create a film of this caliber and not have to use all the fancy film techniques of the time, and that is one reason why it is such a masterpiece. When the two brothers are looking at the fish it is somber, in the way the speech is projected in such a low manner. The elder also tends to look quite somber, he relates to the fish and it makes him think about the life for himself and his brother so he becomes depressed. However, since both brothers are so enthralled with the fish it tends to be a light hearted scene. When Rusty James listens to his brother about the fish let alone anything he finds it all interesting and he is happy to hear anything he has to say. • 3. Guilt In Little Bee By Chris Cleave The Power of Guilt Everyone has felt a deep sense of regret, this is also known as guilt. The affects of guilt varies depending on the person who is affected by the feeling and how they cope with their guilt. Guilt is a very common feeling that can tremendously affect a person. In the novel Little Bee by Chris Cleave, many incidents occur which reveal various examples of the possible outcomes guilt can have on a person. Two outcomes of guilt in this novel involve negative and positive consequences. There has been an incident in my life which also has had a negative as well as a positive outcome. Not only can the feeling of guilt inspire one in a negative manner, but also in a positive manner. Most often, guilt leads people towards a negative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Lawrence and Little Bee converse alone for the first time, Little Bee tells Lawrence that she is only staying here to help her (Sarah) (pg 185). At first, one would believe that Little Bee went to Sarah s house because Sarah saves Little Bee s life and so Little Bee feels gratitude towards her. Also, Sarah is the only person she had contact with in Britain. However, if one allows themselves to increase their analytical thinking, they are able to discover Little Bee s reason, after leaving Andrew dead, as to why she wants to stay at Sarah s house . The real reason, as one would discover, is that Little Bee wants to take care of Sarah and her son, Charlie. Little Bee leaves Andrew hanging in the air in the fear that if she did call for help from the neighbours, the police would come and take her back to Nigeria. Little Bee could have ran away and left to go to a different place after witnessing Andrew s death but she stayed because she felt a responsibility as a result of the guilt towards Andrew s family. Therefore, she decides to stay in the house and provide the care and the love Andrew would have wanted to provide them. • 4. Political Philosophy And The Natural Law Political philosophy and the natural law are seldom reflected on in politics. Typically, persons in a political or civil society are often distracted by fiscal success or recreational leisure. In society today, there exists a consensus reality with the prospect of money and power. This reality emanates from a scandalous and corrupted political system. As a result, there lacks the recognition of idealistic values on liberalism, human rights, and the natural law. There have been several philosophers who have tried to conceptualize what constitutes a political philosophy. Several theorists produced valid points, highlighting the epitome of both politics and citizenship. Consequently, there was one philosopher that was able to produce a much more valid theory. John Locke philosophized that the political system is rooted from the law of nature. The law of nature states that all persons are equal, inducing limitations or restrictions on human freedom and personal liberty. Locke believed that natural rights was not created by societal inclinations, but rather discovered by reason. Locke s concept of political philosophy emphasizes that the law of nature furnishes persons rights to self preservation, self defense, and personal liberty. (Personal Liberty, 414) Locke s theory on the political system was quite interesting because he believed that the government plays as a servant, working for the benefit of the people, in which the government claims their authority with only the ... • 5. Research Proposal On Water Fountains BACKGROUND The current water fountains at Lawrenceburg High School are broken with poor filtration systems. The water fountains are also inconvenient for the students and the school. The current water fountains are costing the school more money, because the filtration is not effective and water is lost. The old water fountains pose many threats such as making students sick from improper sanitation and not allowing the students to get the appropriate amount of water they need throughout the day. The students can be late to class trying to find water, which will cut into their learning time. Access to free, potable, and appealing drinking water in schools is important because children spend substantial time in school settings, and students may come to school already dehydrated (Pantel). This text explains the importance of having proper water fountains in school. Students and faculty at Lawrenceburg High School need new water fountain, because it will be very beneficial to the school as a whole. OBJECTIVES The objective of this research proposal is for Lawrenceburg HIgh School to receive functional water fountains with notable water filtration system. New water fountains at Lawrenceburg High School would be very beneficial. New water fountains with a better filtration system means water being saved on the school budget, allowing students to get enough hydration, and being very troublesome to anyone who wants to use them. • 6. The Inventions Of The Cotton Gin During The Industrial... During the Industrial Revolution, many inventions were produced. In 1793, Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin. Eli Whitney was a farm boy and was trying to make a name for himself as a manufacturer. About a few days later, he developed a machine to restructure the cotton industry. The pasteurization was created by Louis Pasteur in 1864. Louis Pasteur was a chemistry professor and was studying fermentation. He created this invention for beer because there was trouble with brewing and kept going bad while no one knew why. There is a big time difference between the year date they were both created. They both have been known for many years and are still being used to this day. These two inventions have made a huge impact throughout history and people s lives. Cotton has been known for many years, but it was not used as much as compared to today. For many years, the only way to separate the cotton seeds from its fibers was to pull them out by hand. It was a very slow and hard occupation. The way the cotton gin worked was by; the cotton needs to fall through the feeder hopper, goes through a place where it comes into the wire teeth, which seizes the fibers for the seeds and comes out of the machine. Although the cotton gin was a very advantageous machine, it affected many slaves. It came with a number of unintended consequences, especially towards slavery. During this era, cotton was the most arduous plant since the seeds needed to be removed and that was a wearying process. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This approach would appear to provide greater stability since Mercer would stand on its own merit and not necessarily be lumped together with other transportation companies. Mercer s size and ability to retain risk makes this option more attainable at this juncture than it has been in the past. Another option is to consider self insurance. There are several advantages to self insurance which include low cost, the ability to manage claims more effectively when losses for both frequency, and severity are predictable, better cash flow, an opportunity to engage services by outside vendors or internally by staff members of your organization. Even though RWB is most famous for its annual World Press Freedom Index, another important sphere of its activity is related to assistance to journalists assigned to dangerous areas. In order to develop the 2010 index, RWB sent a questionnaire to about 130 correspondents in the world, among them journalists, researchers, attorneys and human rights activists. The questionnaire consisted of 43 questions, divided in seven sections: (1) Physical violence, (2) Number of journalists killed, arrested, physically attacked or threatened, and the role of government officials in those cases, (3) Indirect threats, harassment, and access to information, (4) Censorship and self censorship, (5) Control of media, (6) Judicial, business, and administrative pressures, and (7) Internet and new media. However, none of these sections included questions about the media ownership structure norneither about the media ownership structure nor about their economic concentration in private hands. The questions in the section Control of media only inquire if there are privately owned media in the country and if they are free to determine their editorial policy . [122] established equations for estimating the plastic zone size under creep and fatigue, and Equations (1) and (2) show that the size of plastic zone will reduce with increasing yield strength of AA alloy. 3. Discussion It is generally assumed that the crack growth rate of coarse grain is lower than that of fine grain, and the fatigue crack growth resistance can be improved by increasing the grain size [79]. Lots of experimental results indicate that the grain size can significantly affect the fatigue crack growth rate of AA alloy. However, the experimental results in this study indicate that with decreasing grain size the fatigue crack growth rate of AA alloy becomes smaller and smaller. Therefore, the fatigue crack growth resistance increases with decreasing grain size. This is opposite to the prevailing effect of grain size on fatigue crack growth rate. The main reasons are concluded as follows: (1) Previous experimental results indicate that the amount of η Ni3Al0.5Nb0.5 phase can significantly affect the DFCGR property of AA alloy. The η Ni3Al0.5Nb0.5 phase mainly plays a role of pinning grain boundary and retarding the intergranular diffusion of oxygen. Thus, the crack growth at grain boundaries can be retarded, and the notch sensitivity of the alloy can be avoided. Therefore, more the η Ni3Al0.5Nb0.5 phase, the fatigue crack growth rate of the alloy can be reduced favourably. Figure 1 shows that the amount and morphology of η Ni3Al0.5Nb0.5 phase precipitated from AA alloy with different grain sizes are different under the same thermal treatments. With decreasing grain size, both the grain boundary area of the alloy and the amount of η Ni3Al0.5Nb0.5 phase increase, and the ability of grain boundary pinning and grain boundary oxygen diffusion retarding are significantly enhanced, thus the fatigue crack growth rate will reduce ... In his famous play, Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare conveys the importance of true friendship through the character Mercutio, who has a caring, selfless, and honest personality. Mercutio is a sincere friend because he is selfless and will do almost anything for his friends. By utilizing the phrase make haste, Shakespeare illustrates Mercutio as a powerful and commanding individual. Grubbed for roots, caught fish on traps she twisted together out of willow boughs. Ruby was forced too mature quickly in order to survive with these problems. Other than the lack of a father Ruby also had to overcome external hardships, living in conditions less than adequate: They lived in a dirt cabin, little better than a roofed pen. She had slept on a kind of miniature loft platform, just a shelf, really. Ruby awoke many a morning with an inch of snow atop her pile of quilts, because there was no ceiling. (Pg. 105) It is apparent that Ruby was not given the life of luxury that Ada had, and was put in a situation where she either had to learn to live, or die. Ruby used these hardships in her early life to succeed later on. The survival skills Ruby was forced to learn as a child to survive, helped support her and Ada while staying with Ada. When Ruby first meets Ada, she realizes that Ada is in the same situation she was as a child. Ada is alone in the world, and does not even have the drive the Ruby had to survive. Ruby uses the knowledge she has gained through her life to teach Ada what she needs to know to survive and flourish. Designing A New Design For A Distributed Operating System As the Chief Information Officer working in my business, I will be proposing a new design for the current network to attempt to improve the quality and productivity of 250 client computers and 50 servers. My first decision would be to opt to change the system to a distributed operating system (DOS). I would choose this course of action because instead of centralizing all the resources on one server, which could lead to problems in the event of a hardware failure, you could distribute them across multiple instances decreasing the likelihood of system outages, and making errors easier to deal with ( Definition of Distributed n.d). Although this model will be much more expensive to implement, I believe that it will lead to better growth in the future. The reliability of the network will be increased, which leaves room for improvement, adding more client systems, or even servers. Updating the operating system to a distributed operating system will increase the overall size and reliability of the database for subscribers to use. The current server operating system would be Windows Server 2003. I d make minor changes to the server operating system upgrading to a later version like 2008 or 2012. I chose Windows over Linux, MAC, and other server OS because I think its performance is suitable for this type of environment. Windows itself has a high support for most functions (Janowski, 2003). • 28. The Basis Of The Big Bang Theory There has always been a stigma relating to The Big Bang Theory for me personally. I previously before this class thought that believing in the Big Bang Theory meant I was against my religious beliefs. But throughout this class, I gained the knowledge necessary to believe in both lines of creation. The Big Bang theory now helps me belief stronger in my religious beliefs. As we learned about the theory and dug deep into the roots of the universe I found myself learning to observe science with a religious outlook and how to apply the science to my faith. The Big Bang theory was introduced by Georges Lemaître a Belgian Catholic Priest in 1927. Lemaître expanded upon previous universe knowledge by concluding The Big Bang from research in the Hubble Law. The basis of the Big Bang is deriving from the redshifting of distant stars and galaxies. Redshifting is the change of light which shows the chemical makeup, movement, and distance the particular star or galaxy is from us. Using this knowledge Lemaître was able to conclude that the universe is expanding and other galaxies are shifting away from each other. All the way up until the 18th century it was debated if the universe was infinite or finite. This was put to rest when Hubble was able to view the universe more precisely than others of his time. Within the theory of the Big Bang, it can easily be simplified. The theory suggests that 13.8 billion years ago at a destination in the Universe in a state of extreme density the ... The peaceful removal of those missiles was both a challenge and a goal for the Kennedy administration. In 1958, Kruschev had asked NATO to give up West Berlin to East Germany and by the summer of 1961, Kruschev and Kennedy met during the Vienna Summit, where Kruschev insisted upon East German control over West Berlin. On August 13, the Soviets and East Germans built a wall that limited free means of access between the Western and Eastern zones. The development of pressure ulcers occur when there is injury to the skin or tissue usually over bony prominences such as the coccyx, sacrum or heels from the increase of pressure and shear. This injury will compromise blood flow and result in ischemia due to lack of oxygen being delivered (Gyawali et al., 2011). Most mobile patients are able to reposition themselves, while others who are critically ill are not able to feel or respond to pain. Therefore, nurses need to assess those patients in repositioning to decrease the risk of developing pressure ulcers (REF). Nurses need to realise what they are looking for when performing skin assessments for patients. A study conducted by Thoroddsen et al (2013), found that out of 45 patients that had pressure ulcers only 27 were correctly recorded in the patient s records. A study conducted over seven years by Amir et al (2011) showed a significant decline of pressure ulcer development after three years of the study. This was partly due to strategies being implemented in regards to repositioning along with adequate nutrition, pressure ulcer prevention information leaflets were given to patients and skin assessments (Amir et al., 2011). It must also be considered that different patients will have different comorbidities and the use of a risk assessment tool is vital to assess and implementing a plan for pressure ulcer prevention according to the patient s score (Tannen et al., 2010). Frequency of Repositioning The timing of position changes for pressure ulcer prevention is very limited in the studies that were researched. A study found that adults who were frequently turned every two to three hours did not develop as much pressure ulcers compared to those who were turned less regularly (Lyder ... The Gospel According To The Gospel Of Luke Introduction to the Gospel according to Luke Before we begin our series on the Gospel according to Luke, let us have a look at what this gospel focuses on and what makes it unique compared to the other three gospels. The Gospel of Luke was probably the last to be written, between 59AD and 70AD. It is thought to have been written by Luke, a Greek, a physician and a companion of the Apostle Paul. Though personal information about his life is non existent and like the other synoptics, the author does not clearly identify himself within the text. One of the few times Luke is mentioned is by Paul, in Colossians 4:14, it says Our dear friend Luke, the doctor and Demas send greetings, indicating that Luke was travelling with him at this time. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even though it is written in more of a Greek style, its subject matter covers the concerns of Christians, rather than the Greco Roman world. Luke uses an extensive prologue to introduce his gospel, which is not seen in the other gospels. Luke 1:3 4 says with this in mind, since I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, I too decided to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught. This formal introduction is not only Greek in nature, setting out the subject, purpose, method and audience, but is addressed to Theophilus, a name that means Lover of God or friend of God. This could be an individual, as it was a name given to men of authority or it could have simply been addressing every Christian. Here he writes to inform Theophilus of his intention, which is to lead the reader through an account of events, this was not to justify the Christian belief, but to encourage the faith of those who did believe. What makes Luke so interesting is that it is the only gospel to have a sequel, which is the book of Acts. It is believed that Luke and Acts were written as a two part volume, with the style of writing and length being similar. Acts even begins by Luke addressing Theophilus, In my former book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach. (Acts ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Adherents to this belief, called Wahhabis, were backed by the armies of the Saud dynasty, and together, these forces began a movement. Oh, the simplicity of delivering heightened language and pure emotion he was able to conjure!! Some of the best training I ve ever had. The second memory was when I was cast in a National Tour of SHLEMIEL THE FIRST. The super star here was the director, David Gordon, whom I had the privilege to work with several times after the tour. David Gordon is one of the best movement based directors I ve ever worked with. He was a master choreographer for the actor and could get a room full of people with different skill sets to create stunning moving images. Also, I got my Equity Card from this tour and was cast in the Broadway bound ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Alfred Hitchcock Film Analysis I ve gone on the record as saying I like Alfred Hitchcock s films, though I only really love one so far ( Psycho ). My admiration for Hitchcock, along with the number of his films I love, increased after we watched his beloved Vertigo in my class. It may have barely surpassed Psycho as my favorite Hitchcock film. This film stars James Stewart as John Scottie Ferguson, a San Francisco detective forced to quit the force after a traumatizing event causes him to develop acrophobia. He soon takes up a case as a sort of private eye, however, when an old acquaintance from college asks him to investigate the strange habits of his wife (Kim Novak). Stewart obliges, with dire consequences. One of the surprises in this film, for me, was Stewart as Scottie, who performed excellently. I like Jimmy Stewart, but I ve never been as enamored with him as some movie buffs. That has changed some, as I think this is his best performance I ve seen. He makes you care for his character and believe his motivations and feelings for the first portion of the movie. He struggles a bit in the emotional scenes, but he still succeeds in evoking our sympathy. By the end of the film, his performance takes a remarkable turn and he becomes genuinely disturbing. It s brilliant. Kim Novak is also great as Madeleine Elster, the wife Stewart s character follows. She has a creepy, disturbing quality about her during that first part of the movie that works quite well. Later, her performance takes a turn, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Stravinsky s In The Night Neither the lighthearted Interplay nor (surprisingly, given the excellent cast and Chopin s music) the more serious In the Night made for particularly compelling watching during the first segment of the All Robbins No. 3 program. Nevertheless, I certainly wouldn t mind seeing either again, especially the latter. By contrast, despite having seen the ballet often during the past few years, the performance of The Cage fascinated me. This ballet contains some of the most inventive and original choreography for both soloists and corps in the entire NYCB repertoire. Stravinsky s score is appealing throughout, and truly moving during the strange yet marvelous pas de deux. Savannah Lowery as the Queen, and Justin Peck and Sean Suozzi as the Intruders ... • 47. Triangle Fire Research Paper Karley M. Vahl #27 7 G Monday, April 23, 2018 Friday, May 4, 2018 The Triangle Factory Fire at the Asch Building What happened the day of the Triangle Fire? What progressed after it? On Saturday, March 25, 1911. At 4:25, which was 5 minutes before closing time at the Triangle Shirt Factory. The Triangle factory, owned by Max Blanck and Isaac Harris, was located on the top three floors of the Asch Building, floors 8, 9, and 10. Some cutters were smoking, even though it was prohibited. Though it is not certain, people believe that a cutter flicked a cigarette butt or hot ash, into one of the waste bins with flammable cloth in them. Many of the garment workers before the year of 1911 were unorganized, mostly because they were young immigrant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This incident has had great significance to this day because it highlights the inhumane working conditions. The Triangle Fire tragically illustrated that fire inspections and precautions were woefully inadequate at the time. Outraged cries calling for action to improve the unsafe conditions in workshops could be heard from every quarter, from the mainstream conservative to the progressive and union press. The role that strong unions could have in helping prevent such tragedies became clear. Workers organized in powerful unions would be more conscious of their rights and better able to obtain safe working conditions. Immediately after the fire, Triangle owners Blanck and Harris declared in interviews that their building was fireproof, and that it had just been approved by the Department of Buildings, but the building lacked the third required staircase. On December 27, twenty three days after the trial had started, a jury acquitted Blanck and Harris of any wrongdoing. Brought to court, he was fined twenty dollars, and the judge apologized to him for the imposition. Twenty three individual civil suits were brought against the owners of the Asch ... • 48. The Feast Of The Goat Book Analysis The Feast of the Goat by Mario Vargas LLosa Much like Bolano, LLosa s book is also character driven It was speculation when I first started reading Feast of the Goat but the further into the book I read, the more I come to know more about the traumatic experiences taking place. The characters were driven with fear: the assassins who killed Trujillo and Urania who recalled her experiences at her young during her encounter with Trujillo. For example, in chapter twelve, Salvador spoke with Father Fortin about his mission to kill Trujillo. On one hand, there was a side of him knowing the consequences of caring out the assassination and as he put it, wondering once he killed a man if he would go to hell. On the other hand, there was a side of him that drove him into understanding why Trujillo had to die. During his conversation with Father Fortin, he spoke of Trujillo and his actions: What they re doing to the bishops, to the churches, that disgusting campaign television, on the radio, in the papers (LLosa 184). He knew right away that he had to cut off the hydra s head (184). Upon the issue regarding Urania, she and her Aunt Adelina recall her father Agustin Cabral (Egghead) and about the letter in The Public Forum that lead to her dad falling into disgrace. However as the story goes on the timeline does shift its course and ends up back and forth between the events that occurred before and after what took place at the Mahogany house. For example, chapter fourteen ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Essay on Ducati Case Study February 1, 2014 Introduction: Being a motorcycle company that produces high performance, highly successful racing motorcycles, as well as motorcycles for the commercial market, has proven to be a winning strategy for Ducati. This case focuses on Ducati Corse, a subsidiary of Ducati Motor Holding S.p.A. that manages racing teams, bike development, promotions, and sponsorship areas of the company. Ducati Corse is a relatively small organization that encourages cross departmental integration with its internal teams to achieve the best motorcycle design and racing outcomes as possible. Ducati started racing in the new MotoGP Circuit during the 2003 race season. With unexpected positive racing results, Ducati took the data collected ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ducati s success was a combination of Ducati engineers passion for their work, their detailed attention to the design process, and a well defined, developed method called the Ducati Method. The Ducati Method helped lead to modular design via extensive use of CAD and simulation technology to optimize the design before physically developing the components followed by intense testing to validate the design. Question 2: How did Ducati use data? Processing, interpreting, and using real time data is a complex task which the Ducati engineers employed with the help of other departments. They utilized rider feedback from the races, videos of each race, track tests, data on race performance, and functional data acquired by on bike sensors. Ducati used the data from the track to identify problems that could not be detected in simulation. This type of data is excellent for measuring relative performance, evaluating structural stress loads, drivetrain torque, and system temperatures. However, it can be greatly influenced by the driver and environmental conditions. Data of this volume proved difficult to sift through, and additional staffers were hired to tackle it for the 2004 season. Question 3: What is your assessment of their approach? We feel that Ducati s approach was ineffective due to the lack of a structured plan with clear priorities. Ducati Corse tried to solve more problems than they were able, which seemed to result in missed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Hepburn s Influence On The Fashion Industry Something old, something new; From razzle dazzle to refined, this year s styles do it all again Today when brides talk about something old and something new, they are referring to one and the same thing their bridal gowns. What we re seeing is a return to the 50s and 60s for inspiration, says Patricia Kaneb of Priscilla. The fabrics and silhouettes are modern interpretations of the trend setting styles worn by the most glamorous women of those times, like Audrey Hepburn, Jackie Onassis and Grace Kelly. Why is this trend resurfacing now? For two reasons. One is the fashion industry s renewed interest in the styles of Hepburn and Onassis. Hepburn s chic has been the subject of numerous articles given the remake of her film Sabrina and the retirement this past year of her couturier Givenchy. The recent death of Onassis has brought all of her Kennedy era photos out of retirement with a beautiful book, A Thousand Days of Magic Dressing Jacqueline ... • 51. The And Skin Complexion That Was Fare was straight textured and skin complexion that was fare. Because of this the first girlfriends I selected where light skinned and had hair that was naturally straight in an attempt to please my mother and support her ideal. At a very basic level all human beings are animals and I hate to use this analogy because of the negative connotation of using a animal in relation to ethnic people, but there is no other way for me to express the connection between our humanity, preference and genetics, if we examine for instance a canine it s easy to see the effects a pasts generations experience has had on the current reiteration of its breed I.e., there is the obvious physical attributes muscularity and physical defenses claws teeth this is part of evolution, but there is also there is an innate automatic reasoning (instinct) coupled with the experiences and subsequent nurturing of a parental figure that will keep the young away from potentially life threatening situations this culmination of nature and nurture is also prominent in the human animal and even more so in the human beings that are preyed upon by other cultures for example African Americans disassociating with there own people or showing dislike of there own skin color. This reveals how there is a culture of fear associated with being African American that has been inherited.
