Lean is having an increasingly pervasive presence in the software world these days. Lean Software Development has its seven principles and seven wastes and promises to improve efficiency and quality. Many of the most innovative software development companies profess to have their philosophical home in Lean Startup's 'Build-Measure-Learn' approach, rather than Agile. But is Lean the same as Agile? And what about the proponents of Lean UX who are challenging the emerging orthodoxy of Agile SDLC frameworks with slogans like "Agile doesn't have a brain"? In this session, we will explore the basic ideas of Lean thinking, similarities and differences between different flavors of Lean, how Lean can be applied to software development, and finally how Lean concepts can be used to expand the built-in 'inspect and adapt' cycles of Scrum to include learning about customer value.
