Jeffrey Baker Hair Case Study
The Curious Case of Jeffrey Baker s Hair The more intently Jess stared at the back of Jeffrey Baker s
head, the more it started to resemble this particularly gruesome hairball Blue Bell, her cat, had
coughed up last spring. Blue Bell had gotten into the neighbour s garbage can and feasted on a mixture
of discarded floss, rotten fruit, and their dead pet mouse. The resulting hairball was the most revolting
thing Jess had ever seen, and she had to plug her nose as she cleaned up the mess. Blue Bell didn t
look too great after retching it up either. Jeffrey s hair was a ragged brown mess that clung to his head
like the hair in a shower drain, with just as much zeal. Jess wondered mildly if he owned a comb, or if
she should offer the one she carried in her purse. Still, she wondered what it would be like to have that
icky mop on her own head: What would it feel like? Would it have a ... Show more content on

Jeffrey reclined in his chair, and his hair practically brushed her desk. He wouldn t notice. Gently, she
pinched a lock between her thumb and forefinger. Jessica. What are you doing? Mrs. Perty droned
with dull disapproval. She stood with one hand on her hip, the other holding a book open. Jess froze
immediately, as Jeffrey spun around. His hair slipped from her hand, and his face was a mix of
confusion and anger. Yeah, what the heck, Jess? Jeffrey demanded, his features muted into the deep
red his face was turning. Looking around, Jess realized everyone in the classroom had their heads
turned in her direction. She smiled grimly and tried her best to look innocent though this act was not
for her sake, but for poor Jeffrey Baker s. She didn t want anyone else to contemplate the mystery that
was his hair it might embarrass him so she lied. I was, uh . . . I was going to tap you on the shoulder to

Essay on Two Methods of Defending the Trinity
Two Methods of Defending the Trinity
Christians believe in one God, yet the apparent contradictory nature of the Trinity is such that it has
caused many to doubt whether Christianity is indeed monotheistic. This has consequently caused
Christians to defend their monotheism in relation to the Trinity. In the two such defenses that are
studied in this essay, we find that Christians have explained the nature of Trinity with varying degrees
of effectiveness and success. Timothy the Patriarch defends the Trinity before the Caliph Madhi with
few compelling arguments, and Gregory of Nyssa explains it in a more abstract and therefore more
effective way. Each however defends the Trinity according to his understanding of it. ... Show more

Timothy offers several apt analogies comparing the Trinity to earthly things, yet he fails to offer a
compelling argument to refute the Caliph s simple yet powerful statement: If He is one, He is not
three; and if He is three he is not one; what is this contradiction? (69).
The most obvious of Timothy s logical errors is that he assumes (naturally) that the Son of the Trinity
is in fact the Christ or Messiah of the Hebrew Scripture. He therefore refers to Hebrew Scripture to
show that the Son is equal and not subservient to the Father: God, therefore, called Christ a Lord
through the prophet David, and since no true lord is a servant, it follows that Christ is not a servant
(82). The flaw in this logic, or at least the reason for its failure to convince the Caliph, lies in the fact
that the Caliph cannot believe that Jesus is the Christ. The logic is also flawed from a modern point of
view, for there the writers of the Hebrew Scripture knew neither Jesus nor the concept of the Trinity. It
would therefore be anachronistic to use such references or to claim for example that the We of the
creation story in Genesis refers to the Christian Trinity.
Timothy makes similar mistakes in reference to the Koran and the Gospels. He says, It is also possible

Example: Major Premise: Most people in philosophy 211 owe student loans.
Minor Premise: Recently a man was arrested for not paying $1,500.00 dollars in student loans owed

The Pearl Of The United States Rhetorical Analysis
One action the king took was to shut off the Salminaya Medical Centre in Manama. The medical staff
took part in a social action. They took the side of the protestors and started politically talking. They
even started protesting. They also treated injured demonstrators. One point of view is from a medic.
His point of view is social justice, he backs the protestors. He believe that the government is savage
and cruel. That day changed my life, I felt bad seeing my own people treated like animals. He believe
this because he sees his people being treated like animals by the government. He values respect and
equality for his people. In retaliation the military blocked off the hospital. Which meant that the hurt
and dying were unable to get in and get help. They turned the hospital into a military prison. As it was
seen as an anti governmental hub. Doctors and nurses were raped, beaten, arrested, jailed and tortured.

Bahrain Observer describes the destruction of the Pearl Roundabout. The king then tried to perform
the act of Damnatio Memoriae, which is translated from Latin as the condemnation of memory.
Damnatio Memoriae means that all images are destroyed of a person thats been decreed by the
government as an enemy of the state. Which makes Pearl Roundabout an enemy of the state. The king
had postcards that had the Pearl Roundabout on them and 500 fils coins which featured Pearl

Truman Capote Summary
The book is about Truman Capote studying the murders that happened in 1956 to the cutter family
after two robbers broke in trying to steal the non existent family safe. Capote saw an article that was
put in the New York Times and called his best friend Harper Lee to go down to Kansas to see the
murder scene. After they went down to investigate and write the findings. Whiles there, the two
murderers were found in Vegas and were brought back to Kansas, tried and later hanged for their
crimes.
Structure
The book is divided into four parts:The Last to See them alive, Persons Unknown, Answer, and The
Corner. Within the sections there are chapters , but the sections have no titles. The first section leads
up to the murders, Persons Unknown the murders themselves, Answers about the investigation and
finding the murders, and The corner to them being caught and hung. There is also an introduction with
background of the author and his works, acknowledgment to all of the people that have helping so
much in the production of this book.
Exigence
This book was published in 1960, two years after the murders taken place. Capote saw a small 300
word article about the murders before the trial and expanded on it tremendously with first hand
accounts taken from Holcomb, Kansas and after the trial and execution of the two suspects. Since this
was still relatively new it gave readers a deeper look into this intriguing mystery.

The Death Of A Ball Turret Gunner
Since the beginning of time, humans have sought after power and control. It is human instinct to
desire to be the undisputed champion, but when does it become a problem? Warfare has been practiced
throughout civilization as a way to justify power. Though the orders come directly from one man,
thousands of men and women pay the ultimate sacrifice. In Randall Jerrell s The Death of a Ball
Turret Gunner , Jarrell is commenting on the brutality of warfare. Not only does Jarrell address the
tragedies of war, he also blames politics, war leaders, and the soldier s acknowledgement of his duties.
(Hill 6) With only five lines of text, his poems allows the reader to understand what a soldier can go
through. With the use of Jerrell s poem, The Vietnam War, and Brian Turner s Ameriki Jundee , the
truth of combat will be revealed. To understand what a soldier goes through, Jerrell s poem must be
explored. His poem s time era is important, it taking place during World War Two, because it was the
most prominent war America has faced. The title alone tells the reader that someone has died.
Immediately in the first line, Jerrell reveals the speaker of the poem is retelling his death story. In the
first line, Jerrell talks about him being in his mother s belly and then falling into the state. By his
mother, he means the B 17 bomber. He has physically fallen asleep and reawakened in the turret s
chair. He could also be talking about the stages of his life. When he sleeps, he reminisces

Definition Of Poverty
There are a number of definitions of poverty. It is a multifaceted notion which includes social,
economic, and political components. How we define poverty is critical to politics, policy and
academic debates about the concept. It is bound up with explanations and has implications for
solutions. (Lister, 2004 as cited in Class notes, 2017). The United Nations, first established in 1945
shortly after the second world war, was created to promote international co operation and maintain
international order (UN, 2017). The global term for poverty is defined by using the Gross National
Product (GNP) and Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Both defined by the World Bank, GNP uses
market valuations to measure national income: GNP per capita (each person) gives an indication of the
typical material living standards of a nation, whereas, GDP is a measure of the total market value of
goods and services output and their economic activity. The United Nations set the bar at the minimum
daily income of $1.25 (93 pence) per day (Class notes, 2017). If you are living on less than this you
are classed as living in absolute poverty. How poverty is measured is a contested concept and has had
researchers long trying to establish a fixed method of determining. The four main concepts are
absolute poverty, relative poverty and deprivation, consensual poverty, and social exclusion (Class
notes, 2017). The concept of absolute poverty was developed in the 19th century by Joseph Rowntree
and was

Example Of The Jim Crow Laws
The Jim Crow Laws are a series of laws that enforce segregation and inequality toward the African
American race. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., an African American Civil Rights leader, decided to lead a
peaceful protest in Atlanta, Georgia due the amount of racial injustice he saw there. However, because
he did not get a permit to protest he was imprisoned. While in jail, he received a letter from the Atlanta
clergymen imploring, him to stop all objection. In response to their letter he wrote back to the Atlanta
clergymen. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. s response letter to the Atlanta clergymen shows a classic
application of the Aristotelian method of persuasion by using ethos, pathos, and logos.
Dr. King refers to the Southern Christian leadership Conference and various Christian prophets to
show his credibility. The internationalist claims he has reason to be in Atlanta by stating, I have the
honor of serving as president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, and organization
operating in every southern state, with headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia. (). This quote shows the
reason behind Dr. King interfering with racial discrimination in Atlanta, Georgia. He has ... Show

King uses ethos, pathos, and logos in an attempt to convince the clergymen of the mistreatment of
African Americans. I agree with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. when he claims the Jim Crow Laws are
unjust. I also believe this letter made the Atlanta clergymen rethink their beliefs and values. He uses
ethos to explain why he interfered by protesting and alludes to biblical heroes to become more sound
in his argument. Dr. King shows the logistics of his peaceful protests by explaining how tension grows
into negotiation. Finally, he shows the emotion of the African American race and uses it to prove how
unfair the Jim Crow Laws are. I believe the way Dr. King expresses his passion against the Jim Crow
Laws makes pathos the most efficient method when persuading the Atlanta clergymen from their

Summary Of Murnau s The Last Laugh
Friedrich Willhelm (F.W.) Murnau s The Last Laugh (1924) holds a special place within silent film
(Bordwell 2016). It is the film that made Murnau popular with American audiences, and in turn, its
success lead him to move to Hollywood and eventually make masterpieces (not to say that The Last
Laugh itself isn t a masterpiece), such as Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans (1927). Both films evoke
the surreality of life, but unlike the celebratory Sunrise¸ The Last Laugh laments life s predestined
nature. Murnau dramatizes this lamentation through the contrast of the real with the fanciful and
through his use of doors.
From the first shot, The Last Laugh manages to be both hyper realistic and utterly whimsical. We are
whisked down the elevator and out the constantly revolving door into a city, that while appearing to be
real at first, is just a painted backdrop. But Murnau spares no expense to fool the audience; he even
has figures moving inside the painted towers, which to the untrained eye cause the towers to seem
real. Alas, the towers are fake, but these moving figures serve a larger purpose than just to be a tool to
suspend the audience s belief. They add to the busy aesthetic of the The Last Laugh. The world
Murnau has created is a hectic one where One day you are preeminent, respected by all, as the
opening title announces, and the next you are a nobody, and before you know it, life has passed you
by. This is the case for our unnamed protagonist (Emil Jannings) who is now

Richard Fairbanks and Takeshi Yasuda s Ceramics Richard Fairbanks, although many times

never really appreciated for his talent. Fairbanks was greatly influence by his professors. Professor
Paul Bonifas, who taught at the University of Washington, was one who left a huge impact on
Fairbanks work. Fairbanks created a system of sketching pottery profiles, which stemmed from
Bonifas teachings, as a mean of thinking on paper. This approach to pottery through sketching was a
crucial element that separated Fairbanks from many other Asian inspired American peers. Although,

Instead of purist forms, Fairbanks explored the less traveled road of rough and crusty clay bodies,
which emerge, from the surface of the glaze. This in turn removed his pieces from any realm of
perfection. In the end Fairbanks demonstrated, trough his pieces, the p [positive and negative
approaches that he was exposed to during his years. Fairbanks wrote, My eyes are lazy and don t see
well. With my hands I se, and that is good. I can hold the whole world in my hands when I am seeing
with them a good pot. Then there is the earth: dense and heard, yet at one time it grew, expanded and
breathed; there like seed to stalk to flower to fruit, it patiently endured the potters tactile search. The
clay speaks softly but firmly to the potter, it is not afraid because it will always have the last word,
even if it must atomize itself to return again and seeks its destiny anew in another s hands. My hands
see the clay and the clay murmurs to them take it easy, you re in good hands. The dialogue continues
long after the brief communication when the hands and the clay see each other, they know. They
know. This statement was said to take great poignancy because of the last two years of his life.
Fairbanks was diagnosed with malignant brain tumor, which created little to no studio activity. As his
disease progressed, Fairbanks lost more and more eyesight. This passage softly

The Impact Of Sports On Sports And Leisure Activities
Section A Introduction Despite it being 2015, there are still many ongoing barriers which are
preventing many people of all ages, races, genders and social backgrounds from participating in sports
and leisure activities. Economically, some sports are just completely unviable to people from certain
backgrounds. Sports such as Polo are completely exclusive to a certain class of people, due to the
mass expenses required to get you started. Inner city families, some of whom may have a member of
the household unemployed would never be able to foot the cost of the bills to play Polo. Along with
the unfeasibility of the costs of certain sports, people are also being excluded from sport due to the
social side of the spectrum. Many sports are perceived as having gender ties and many children are
brought up to identify that a certain sport shouldn t be played by boys as it is a girls sport and vice
versa. This leads to a massive social stigma that is developed during the formative years of schooling
that influences children s decisions on what sports they decide to play. It can also be tied into many
cases of Homophobia in schools, where many homophobic slurs may be attached to a girl who enjoys
rugby, or a boy who enjoys gymnastics. Due to the low number of combination between the sexes in
many sports as children, this leads to a deficiency of integration as adults, therefore making it more
difficult to get involved in a sport as an adult, due to the sport being either male

Social Comparison Theory Analysis
The Social Comparison theory can be applied to how beauty standards in television have an effect on
how children view themselves and the world. The theory describes that individuals make judgments
about themselves based on the comparison they view on television. In the theory there are two types
of comparisons to be made: upward comparisons and downward comparisons. This analysis will focus
on upward comparisons as it is best applied to how beauty standards in television affects the way
children view the world. In upward comparisons an individual compares him/herself with others who
they feel are better than them. This comparison can only lead to on of two things, the individuals will
try to self enhance themselves the better conform to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are three main components of this theory: attention, retention, and motivation. A child is
exposed to a crime, an act of violence, or some sort of injustice; this is the attention portion of the
theory. Viewing these acts expands their behavioral options and discover the consequence or reward
for such actions. In the retention portion of this theory, the learned images that a child has viewed is
internalized. The cognitive function of memory enables us to reenact that vivid image of violence. The
theory suggests we can live vicariously through these images; we may never reenact them in reality,
but we have been exposed to them.) This constant exposure and mental reenactment of violence lead
to desensitization to these injustices because they are familiar. In the motivation portion of the theory
we calculate how imitating these violent acts would pan out in reality. The viewer weighs the rewards
or punishments of these actions. Motivation comes from the expectation of future reward or
punishment; both internal and external rewards are played out in the viewer s mind to

Comparative Study Of Legal Systems
Comparative Study of Legal Systems Assignment 1 Name Institution Date Comparative Law: An Aid
to Legislators Comparative law has several practical applications. This has made it a very key subject
in various aspects of law practice and study. Zweigert and Kötz identify four major areas where it has
been widely and effectively used . These include being used as an aid to legislators, as a component of
the curriculum in universities, a tool of construction and as a contributor to the systemic unification of
law. All these areas underscore the importance of the subject. This treatise looks into cooperative law
as an aid to legislators. This is done by reviewing and evaluating how it has been used in different
countries of the world for legislative purposes and in the molding of the existing legal structures and
systems. The topic of the influence of foreign and cooperative law in the legislation process has
widely been investigated by several scholars. This is basically done in order to understand how
various parliaments use the foreign and comparative law in drafting, discussing and approving new
legislations. It is not by chance that a lot of focus has been put in this particular aspect of law but due
to the importance of the practice. The application of comparative law in legislation is something that
has been in existence for a long time now . Legislators from various regions of the world have always
found it hard to come up with certain legislations without

The Acropolis is a large worship complex built on a mountain overlooking the city of Athens. Both the
residents of the city and those traveling to Athens would have been able to see it at all points
throughout the day. Inside the structure lies the Parthenon, the main temple, dedicated to the goddess
Athena, who was the guardian of the city of Athens. The location itself was a holy site as it was
believed to be the place where Athena won against Poseidon and earned her patronage. Poseidon gave
the Greeks a salt well where as Athena gave them a olive branch, and as her gift was deemed better,
they erected the Parthenon in her name. There is also a smaller temple dedicated to Poseidon in the
Acropolis. The olive branch given to them was said to be within the Parthenon and the salt well was
said to be in the temple to Poseidon. Finally, the Parthenon is covered in the carved stories of the
victories of both Athens and Athena herself. These re introduced their beliefs and glorified Athena for

Organization And Structure Is Essential For All Group...
Organization and structure is essential in all group settings. How rigid and how formal that structure
is, can be reliant upon the type of organization. A large government agency or a corporation will
evidently have several layers of management and will have an authoritative expression and direction
for and of its members. Even minor groups, a family unit for instance, have a need to have a precise
statement of individual responsibility and overall goals, while also maintaining an authoritative
structure of headship. The triumph of each organization, in spite of the size, is utterly reliant on the
efficiency of the leadership, the eagerness and ability for each member to work collectively, and the
capacity of the group to solve all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wage hours are also unswervingly effected by productivity. If each member of the organization has
high productivity output then it will take fewer wage hours, to achieve the volumes necessary, than the
budget originally accounts for. However there can also be negative effects from high productivity
levels. For example, the quicker a team works the more latent the possibility for inefficiencies and
injuries to occur. This can in reality counteract any of the financial gains achieved from the higher
productivity of the team by having to insert additional wage hours in order to repair quality control
issues as well as the additional costs related to expected lost work hours. The objective now becomes
how to increase productivity and perhaps profitability, all the while restricting the potential for those
negative side effects to take place.

operational departments. The department structure within the DC is of very good quality, and on a
superficial level, it encourages the success of each department by combining like functions together.

Analyzing The Poem This Lime-Tree Bower My Prison
Many poets commonly use imagery as a primary literary device in their poems to convey important
themes with objects, symbols, and motifs throughout the piece; the author of This Lime tree Bower
my Prison is no exception. Throughout the poem, figurative language is present in the form of
descriptions and relationships to nature. The imagery of nature describing the progression in the
speaker s attitude reflects the transitioning between stages of thinking changing of reliance and
thoughts on nature as a higher being to a reliance on the self and individual thought. The things found
in nature, from flowers to sunsets, are used to describe the movement of the poem and the changes in
the speaker s attitude throughout. Nature is a pivotal point ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Kenney, one of the speakers, spent a day with George, an economic assistant, whose job is to visit
different stores and collect the prices of specific goods every month. The economic assistants have a
list of specific goods, for which they have to collect the prices. There are many economic assistants
across the United States, who are responsible for completing the same task as George in order to
obtain the CPI. The podcast infers that through the comparison of prices of the goods on a monthly
basis, economists make conclusions on whether there

Phonological Awareness In Education
According to Stanovich (1986) and Kaminksi Powell Smith (2016), phonological awareness stands
out as the highest predictor of reading acquisition. Phonological Awareness (PA) is the process in
which students learn that words are made up of phonemes (sounds) and learn each individual phoneme
(Eissa, 2014). PA is the ability to recognize rhymes, counting syllables, and separating the beginning
sound from the ending sound (e.g. /c/ from /at/) (Yopp Yopp, 2000). More than twenty percent of
kindergarten and first grade students struggle with an aspect of PA; furthermore eight to ten percent
show significant delays (Trehearne, 2003). PA is causally related to the early development of reading
skill because students must be able to decode when

Violence in Palestine and Israel
Since 1920 about 115,000 people have been killed as a directed effect of the violence in Palestine and
Israel. The One State Solution would only work if both sides committed to a democracy, separation of
state and religion and an end to violence because without this the states would have the same problems
and not have peace.
Right now democracy in Palestine is at a stand still. With elections that have not happened since 2006
the system is not working at its full potential. The leader of the PLO, Mahmoud Abbas, has been in a
power for 78 years. Mahmoud Abbas, the highly unpopular president, term has expired many years
ago but will not step down. In 2006, the Hamas won the elections but were rejected by the West and so
the Fatah stayed in power leading to the spilt of the two party s. Hamas controls the Gaza Strip and
Fatah the rest. In Israel there government is close to that of democracy. The government has a
legislative authority and an executive authority. The executive authority is headed by the Prime
Minster and is elected by the people for a four year term. The legislative authority is made up of 120
members that are nation wide elections for a four year term. Israel already has a government that is set
up and is in working conduction. The one state solution would have these two governments come
together as one. It would help Palestine s political party s get back on the right track. With one state
solution the 120 people in the legislative authority could be

Summary Of The Ugly Truth About Beauty By Dave Barry
In The Ugly Truth about Beauty by Dave Barry, Barry points out that men and women have different
views on beauty. According to the author, men would consider themselves as average looking, and
after they shave, men would rather talk about more pressing issues like sports than their looks. Barry
also points out women do not think of themselves as beautiful, and I believe that it hard to convince a
woman to do so. He uses the example of Barbie because girls grow up playing with the doll and
compare themselves to Barbie and try to emulate the doll. There is a multibillion dollar beauty product
industry created around the impossible goal of looking like Barbie. Women may try their hardest to
reach it but never come close. Barry also states that men would not notice the amount of time that

Aging in woman is unbeautiful since women grow more powerful with time... (Wolf 214). In Wolf s
view, beauty is not constricted to aesthetics. Throughout her essay Wolf shows that the male
dominated society is to keep women too worried of how they look. This idea of beauty comes from
men who want to keep women under their control and prevent women from gaining power. In the
1840s, the first nude photographs of prostitutes were taken; advertisements using images of beautiful
women first appeared in mid century (Wolf 215). This is an example of how media can show what is
considered beautiful. We can now see something similar in contemporary time in which beauty
magazines show young woman on the cover who are considered beautiful by the standards of society.
The issue of the beauty magazine is it talks about how to get the perfect body with help of a certain
brand of makeup. These images of photo shop perfection begins to affect the way woman see

Analysis Of The Movie Alfonso Cuaron Essay
Alfonso Cuaron, introduces us to a nation full of despair and destruction. The people seemed to be lost
in a deep melancholic state. Right at the beginning of the movie people appeared to be devastated by
the death of baby Diego, due to the fact that he was the youngest person on earth. This film portrays
us to a nation without children because humanity has become infertile. Infertility has taken the world
into a chaotic and paranoia stage. The government itself has indoctrinated paranoia and despair on its
own people, by condemning its people to live in a lawless nation full of war, death, and destruction.
Although it seems as if humanity is condemned to live without hope and without a chance of a future,
Theo s rejuvenation and transformation makes us see that hope can be reawakened even in the most
destructive and hopeless society; Theo transforms when Kee reveals her pregnancy to him, and by
giving hi life to safely this teenage pregnant girl through a journey full of violence and danger, to
reach a boat that represented a better future for her and her baby.
Throughout the movie it s obvious that the devastation of all humanity is caused by the infertility of
all women; infertility in the movie symbolizes a nation without a hopeful future. Even the current
future generation seems robotic and unsociable, like Theo s cousin s son. The people seemed to be
living in an unconscious and hopeless phase because the government has driven them to live this way.

Media Essay It s Time to Ban the Advertising of Alcoholic Beverages
Everywhere we go, we re bombarded by all sorts of advertisements. We can seldom go through one
day without receiving at least one phone call from a telemarketer. Turn on the TV for 15 or 20 minutes
and you ll see at least one 5 minute commercial break. Advertisements are abundant everywhere we

The loss of control ties in closely with physical dependence on alcohol if, by whatever means, the
alcoholic attempts to quit, he or she experiences withdrawal symptoms. As an alcoholic continues to
drink more and more and become increasingly dependent on alcohol, he or she gains tolerance to
alcohol in order to get drunk, the alcoholic must consume more alcohol.
An explanation of alcoholism is not enough to persuade most people to ban alcohol advertising. Most
fail to recognize the vast amount of people that alcoholism and other alcohol related problems effect.
Many studies have been done and many statistics have been gathered to show the grim reality of
alcohol related problems. In the United States, there are 100,000 alcohol related deaths each year,
which puts it at slot number three in the list of the top causes of preventable death in the nation.
Approximately two thirds of domestic violence and sexual assaults involve alcohol in one way or

Local resources Tourism in India can create great pressure on local resources like energy, food, and
other raw materials that may already be in short supply. Greater extraction and transport of these
resources exacerbates the physical impacts associated with their exploitation. Because of the seasonal
character of the industry, many destinations have ten times more inhabitants in the high season as in
the low season. A high demand is placed upon these resources to meet the high expectations tourists
often have (proper heating, hot water, etc.). Land degradation Important land resources include fertile
soil, forests, wetlands and wildlife. Increased construction of tourism facilities has increased the
pressure on these resources and on scenic landscapes. Direct impact on natural resources in the
provision of tourist facilities can be caused by the use of land for accommodation and other
infrastructure provision, and the use of building materials. Forests often suffer negative impacts of
tourism in the form of deforestation caused by fuel wood collection and land clearing. For example,
one trekking tourist in Nepal can use four to five kilograms of wood a day. PHYSICAL IMPACT OF

Social Dating is a Modern Phenomenon in our Society
Most people, especially teenagers, are influenced by their peers, parents and social media. Whether it
is what is in style or what the kids are doing these days, it seems like everyone is following each other
either through a social network such as Facebook or through face to face interactions. One of the areas
in which they are influenced most is dating. Dating is a modern phenomenon which has only recently
been brought up in the last century. Not only is dating the norm in the United States, but also in many

Many times we see the unpopular girls at school trying to go out with a popular guy in order to gain a
higher social status. We have exchanged the survival of the fittest view of acquiring a mate in order to
have a higher survival rate for the higher social status acquired from dating someone popular.
Our daily lives are bombarded with pop culture and societal pressure of many sorts. This pressure may
come in various forms such as peer pressure, or even as simple as television shows or ads. It is
unusual that a high school or even a middle school student is unaware of what happens during a date.
Many of these students have even attended a date or have carried a relationship with someone
intimately. Their idea of a relationship is making out, and putting out. Engaging in sexual intercourse
before marriage almost never came up before in the era before dating, but what has changed in today s
culture that has made this topic bearable in recent times? Steven E. Roahds argues that, The collegiate
women are available because most of the women s movement has insisted that sexual liberation is an
important part of women s liberation and because the Pill seemed to make sexual liberation costless
(515). In this example we see that Roahds claims that the social influences of women activists has
swayed today s society into being immune to the taboo that sexual intercourse had on the general
public long ago with The Pill (515).

A Evolution Of The Late Jurassic
Charophytes are green algae that have been found in fresh water to moderately brackish water
environments. Their gyrogonites are minute oval or round calcareous bodies that represent the
calcified parts of the oogonium i. e. the female reproductive organs. Most of the plant consists of
organic matter that decays shortly after death. Under some circumstances the stems and branches of
the plant become calcified and are also preserved in the geologic record. In the absence of the

Cilia Function
Cilia are organelles protruding from body cells, consisting of microtubules. These structures are
important for hemostasis and cell development. Along with a group of proteins called kinesins
superfamily proteins (KSFs), the cilia also play an important role in SHH signaling. The proteins
found in this family serve a variety of functions relating to microtubule regulation, such as KIF4A and
KIF21A. KIF4A controls microtubule length during cell division, whereas KIF21A inhibits
microtubule growth at the cell cortex. A prominent member of this family is the protein KIF7, a
homologue of the protein Costal2 (Cos2) found in Drosophila and zebrafish. Both serve relatively
similar functions with relation to the Hh signaling pathway, though there ... Show more content on

The level of activity of Gli genes, and thus Hh pathway activation, determines skin tumor phenotype:
high level signaling is shown to result in BCC and low level signaling is shown to result in follicular
derived tumors such as basaloid follicular hamartoma (BFH) (2). Gli2 is involved in the expression of
cell cycle regulation genes in the Shh pathway such as E2F1, CCND1, CDC2 and epidermal
differential genes. Over expression of Gli2 causes the up regulation of such cell cycle regulation genes
in developing hair follicles. Shh activation most specifically promotes degradation of the p53 tumor
suppressor gene (2), thus repressing transcription of p21, a key suppressor of cyclin E in cell cycle
regulation. Thus, G1 arrest is overrode, and the inability to control cell cycle is promoted: a key
feature of cancer. Sufu and Kif7 have overlapping functions in regulating Gli transcription factors.
Specifically, Gli2 forms a complex with Sufu to prevent transcriptional activity via preventing
accumulation of Gli2 transcriptional factors into the nucleus, thus repressing Hh pathway transduction
(3). Sufu also plays a role in stabilizing Gli2 by blocking Spop, an E3 ligase involved in degradation
of Gli2 (3). In keratinocytes, Kif7

Impact Bumpers On Truck Trailers
Currently, rear impact guards on truck trailers are effective at up to 30 mph. These bumpers are also
known as ICC bumpers or underride guards. That speed was set because the crash protection standards
that must protect occupants of passenger vehicles is set at 30 mph. However, because passenger
vehicles how must protect occupants that are involved in frontal impact crashes at up to 35 mph, the
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued a notice of proposed rule
making that requires ICC bumpers to be withstand a crash at up to 35 mph.
The ICC bumpers are required on most trailers and semitrailers so that should a vehicle hit the trailer
from the rear, the guards keep the vehicle from going under the trailer. According to the NHTSA,
many newer trailers already meet this regulation. If the regulation is put in place, it would affect

Any time a smaller vehicle, especially a compact vehicle, runs into the back of a large trailer, it has the
potential to go so far under the trailer that the bottom of the trailer could decapitate or otherwise harm
those in the passenger vehicle. ICC bumpers prevent this from happening at speeds under 35 or 30
mph.
Trucks Without Underride Guards or ICC Bumpers
Some trucks, such as dump trucks, are not required to have ICC bumpers. Although the ICC bumpers
don t protect vehicles that hit the trailer or trucks at the outer edges, the bumpers have saved many
lives in crashes where the vehicle struck a truck or trailer from the inner edges to the center. Because
they do work, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has asked the NHTSA to require that
rear impact guards are installed on dump trucks and other trucks that are not required to have them.

Integrated Services Digital Network ( Isdn )
Before we get into the discussion, let s briefly introduce some of the technologies used in WANs and
the different characteristics of each one:
Point to point links
A so called point to point link (Fig. 2.0) provides a pre established WAN communication path from the
user s location trough a telephone company s network, also known as the carrier. For this kind of line,
the carrier dedicates pairs of wire and hardware to that line only. This kind of circuits are priced
depending on bandwidth needed and distance to be covered.
(Figure 2.0 Point to point link)
Circuit Switching
Work like a normal telephone line. Data connections can be started when needed and terminated when
the communication is over. An example of circuit switching is called Integrated Services Digital
Network (ISDN). When a router receives data that s intended to go to a specific remote site, the
switched circuit (Fig. 2.1) is initiated with a specific circuit number for that particular network. As
soon the two networks that are trying to connect get the authentication done, it is possible to transfer
data. When data transmission is over, the communication gets terminated.
(Figure 2.1 Switched Circuit)
Packet Switching
Here users share common carrier resources (Fig. 2.2). This is a more cost effective solution compared
for example to point to point lines. The carrier can make more efficient use of its infrastructure.
Connections into the carrier s network are shared between many customers and

In this experiment students will use a reaction time test to determine the delay between audial and
visual stimuli being displayed and the student reacting. Once a large (N 3) sample size is taken,
statistical calculations can be made to determine the mean, and standard deviation; these calculations

The same calculations can be done with the data from the sound test to calculate the mean and

Proposed Changes Of Leases And Their Recognition On The...
The proposed changes regarding leases and their recognition on the balance sheet, has been released in
an exposure draft ED 242 by Australian Accounting Standards Board, otherwise referred to as AASB.
The purpose of these proposed changes aims to bring transparency and accountability to these reports
prepared by Australian companies. Leasing is a means of gaining access to assets, of obtaining
finance, and of reducing an entity s exposure to the risks of asset ownership. (AASB Exposure Draft,
2013). This means provides investors with a clearer insight into the overall picture of a company s
assets and liabilities. Originally the standards set out by the AASB, were criticized as they failed in
providing investors with a faithful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These factors are insuring that companies are accountable and that the information they provide to
their investors is accurate and transparent. Accountability is the obligation of an individual or
organization to account for its activities, accept responsibility for them, and to disclose the results in a
transparent manner. It also includes the responsibility for money or other entrusted property.
(BusinessDictionary.com, 2015). A company is obligated to provide accurate information to their
investors, as they are shareholders in the company and thus hold an interest. This information is
provided to these investors by these companies preparing General Purpose Financial Reporting
(GPFR). These reports contain information such as Profit and Loss Statement, and the Balance Sheet.
This Balance sheet depicts the company s assets and liabilities, which determine the liquidity of a
company for that period in time. Transparency is needed when it comes to the interaction between
investors and these companies. The information contained in these GPFR must be in a form that
investors can simply understand. The information presented must disclose all relevant details
regarding the companies financial position. Transparency is minimum degree of disclosure to which
agreements, dealings, practices, and transactions are open to all for verification.

Analysis Of On Dumpster Diving By Lars Eighner
Immediately in viewing this passage from Lars Eighner s On Dumpster Diving it can be gathered that
Eighner is judging the college students in the area he frequents. Eighner states, the Dumpsters in this
area are very rich . This quote implies that the Dumpsters themselves hold rich food and items much
like the students who empty their items in these college Dumpsters. This quote in its entirety suggests
that Eighner, as the dumpster diver, is a very smart and calculated individual. He recognizes that,
Students throw out so many good things, including food , and they tend to throw everything out when
they move at the end of the semester , so when the time rolls around for the end of the semester,
breaks and midterms, Eighner tracks and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eighner begins his essay by drawing attention to various words through italicization. This initial start
to the essay helps Eighner defamiliarize the idea of dumpster divers since they are usually seen as
uneducated or lower beings. Eighner demonstrates methods and knowledge when eating from
dumpsters through his calculations in reference to finding the best food. For instance, he often
frequents pizza parlours and college student residences. Although he writes to inform the reader, he
ultimately pushes self reliance, where those who choose to Dumpster dive should think for themselves
when determining what to take from Dumpsters. Next on Eighner s list is the psychological process of
becoming a diver . Everyone is very different on their route in becoming and continuing as a
Dumpster diver. Some trade their thoughts with others. Eighner identifies these people in some
categories: Can scroungers, pack rats, and the literate and educated. Through these types Eighner
provides a space to explain and interpret the different types, highlighting how he feels about each type
and where he fits in. In his conclusion Eighner unpacks his experiences with his trusty canine and he
acknowledges what he has covered and gives more hints that dumpster diving was not his first choice
when it comes to living, but he doesn t think badly of

Jeffrey Baker Hair Case Study The Curious Case of Jeffrey Baker s Hair The more intently Jess stared at the back of Jeffrey Baker s head, the more it started to resemble this particularly gruesome hairball Blue Bell, her cat, had coughed up last spring. Blue Bell had gotten into the neighbour s garbage can and feasted on a mixture of discarded floss, rotten fruit, and their dead pet mouse. The resulting hairball was the most revolting thing Jess had ever seen, and she had to plug her nose as she cleaned up the mess. Blue Bell didn t look too great after retching it up either. Jeffrey s hair was a ragged brown mess that clung to his head like the hair in a shower drain, with just as much zeal. Jess wondered mildly if he owned a comb, or if she should offer the one she carried in her purse. Still, she wondered what it would be like to have that icky mop on her own head: What would it feel like? Would it have a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His hair slipped from her hand, and his face was a mix of confusion and anger. Yeah, what the heck, Jess? Jeffrey demanded, his features muted into the deep red his face was turning. Looking around, Jess realized everyone in the classroom had their heads turned in her direction. • 4. Essay on Two Methods of Defending the Trinity Two Methods of Defending the Trinity Christians believe in one God, yet the apparent contradictory nature of the Trinity is such that it has caused many to doubt whether Christianity is indeed monotheistic. This has consequently caused Christians to defend their monotheism in relation to the Trinity. In the two such defenses that are studied in this essay, we find that Christians have explained the nature of Trinity with varying degrees of effectiveness and success. Timothy the Patriarch defends the Trinity before the Caliph Madhi with few compelling arguments, and Gregory of Nyssa explains it in a more abstract and therefore more effective way. Each however defends the Trinity according to his understanding of it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Timothy offers several apt analogies comparing the Trinity to earthly things, yet he fails to offer a compelling argument to refute the Caliph s simple yet powerful statement: If He is one, He is not three; and if He is three he is not one; what is this contradiction? (69). The most obvious of Timothy s logical errors is that he assumes (naturally) that the Son of the Trinity is in fact the Christ or Messiah of the Hebrew Scripture. He therefore refers to Hebrew Scripture to show that the Son is equal and not subservient to the Father: God, therefore, called Christ a Lord through the prophet David, and since no true lord is a servant, it follows that Christ is not a servant (82). The flaw in this logic, or at least the reason for its failure to convince the Caliph, lies in the fact that the Caliph cannot believe that Jesus is the Christ. The logic is also flawed from a modern point of view, for there the writers of the Hebrew Scripture knew neither Jesus nor the concept of the Trinity. It would therefore be anachronistic to use such references or to claim for example that the We of the creation story in Genesis refers to the Christian Trinity. Timothy makes similar mistakes in reference to the Koran and the Gospels. He says, It is also possible that the three letters placed before some Surahs in the Kur an...refer also in your Book to God, His ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They took the side of the protestors and started politically talking. They even started protesting. They also treated injured demonstrators. One point of view is from a medic. His point of view is social justice, he backs the protestors. He believe that the government is savage and cruel. That day changed my life, I felt bad seeing my own people treated like animals. He believe this because he sees his people being treated like animals by the government. He values respect and equality for his people. In retaliation the military blocked off the hospital. • 9. The Death Of A Ball Turret Gunner Since the beginning of time, humans have sought after power and control. It is human instinct to desire to be the undisputed champion, but when does it become a problem? Warfare has been practiced throughout civilization as a way to justify power. Though the orders come directly from one man, thousands of men and women pay the ultimate sacrifice. In Randall Jerrell s The Death of a Ball Turret Gunner , Jarrell is commenting on the brutality of warfare. Not only does Jarrell address the tragedies of war, he also blames politics, war leaders, and the soldier s acknowledgement of his duties. (Hill 6) With only five lines of text, his poems allows the reader to understand what a soldier can go through. With the use of Jerrell s poem, The Vietnam War, and Brian Turner s Ameriki Jundee , the truth of combat will be revealed. To understand what a soldier goes through, Jerrell s poem must be explored. His poem s time era is important, it taking place during World War Two, because it was the most prominent war America has faced. The title alone tells the reader that someone has died. Immediately in the first line, Jerrell reveals the speaker of the poem is retelling his death story. In the first line, Jerrell talks about him being in his mother s belly and then falling into the state. By his mother, he means the B 17 bomber. He has physically fallen asleep and reawakened in the turret s chair. He could also be talking about the stages of his life. When he sleeps, he reminisces ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How we define poverty is critical to politics, policy and academic debates about the concept. It is bound up with explanations and has implications for solutions. The United Nations, first established in 1945 shortly after the second world war, was created to promote international co operation and maintain international order (UN, 2017). The global term for poverty is defined by using the Gross National Product (GNP) and Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Both defined by the World Bank, GNP uses market valuations to measure national income: GNP per capita (each person) gives an indication of the typical material living standards of a nation, whereas, GDP is a measure of the total market value of goods and services output and their economic activity. The United Nations set the bar at the minimum daily income of $1.25 (93 pence) per day (Class notes, 2017). If you are living on less than this you are classed as living in absolute poverty. How poverty is measured is a contested concept and has had researchers long trying to establish a fixed method of determining. The four main concepts are absolute poverty, relative poverty and deprivation, consensual poverty, and social exclusion (Class notes, 2017). The concept of absolute poverty was developed in the 19th century by Joseph Rowntree and was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Example Of The Jim Crow Laws The Jim Crow Laws are a series of laws that enforce segregation and inequality toward the African American race. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., an African American Civil Rights leader, decided to lead a peaceful protest in Atlanta, Georgia due the amount of racial injustice he saw there. However, because he did not get a permit to protest he was imprisoned. While in jail, he received a letter from the Atlanta clergymen imploring, him to stop all objection. In response to their letter he wrote back to the Atlanta clergymen. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. s response letter to the Atlanta clergymen shows a classic application of the Aristotelian method of persuasion by using ethos, pathos, and logos. Dr. King refers to the Southern Christian leadership Conference and various Christian prophets to show his credibility. The internationalist claims he has reason to be in Atlanta by stating, I have the honor of serving as president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, and organization operating in every southern state, with headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. King shows the logistics of his peaceful protests by explaining how tension grows into negotiation. • 12. Summary Of Murnau s The Last Laugh Friedrich Willhelm (F.W.) Murnau s The Last Laugh (1924) holds a special place within silent film (Bordwell 2016). It is the film that made Murnau popular with American audiences, and in turn, its success lead him to move to Hollywood and eventually make masterpieces (not to say that The Last Laugh itself isn t a masterpiece), such as Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans (1927). Both films evoke the surreality of life, but unlike the celebratory Sunrise¸ The Last Laugh laments life s predestined nature. Murnau dramatizes this lamentation through the contrast of the real with the fanciful and through his use of doors. From the first shot, The Last Laugh manages to be both hyper realistic and utterly whimsical. We are whisked down the elevator and out the constantly revolving door into a city, that while appearing to be real at first, is just a painted backdrop. But Murnau spares no expense to fool the audience; he even has figures moving inside the painted towers, which to the untrained eye cause the towers to seem real. Alas, the towers are fake, but these moving figures serve a larger purpose than just to be a tool to suspend the audience s belief. They add to the busy aesthetic of the The Last Laugh. The world Murnau has created is a hectic one where One day you are preeminent, respected by all, as the opening title announces, and the next you are a nobody, and before you know it, life has passed you by. This is the case for our unnamed protagonist (Emil Jannings) who is now ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He was known as a loner and because of this he was never really appreciated for his talent. Fairbanks was greatly influence by his professors. Professor Paul Bonifas, who taught at the University of Washington, was one who left a huge impact on Fairbanks work. Fairbanks wrote, My eyes are lazy and don t see well. With my hands I se, and that is good. I can hold the whole world in my hands when I am seeing with them a good pot. Then there is the earth: dense and heard, yet at one time it grew, expanded and breathed; there like seed to stalk to flower to fruit, it patiently endured the potters tactile search. The clay speaks softly but firmly to the potter, it is not afraid because it will always have the last word, even if it must atomize itself to return again and seeks its destiny anew in another s hands. My hands see the clay and the clay murmurs to them take it easy, you re in good hands. The dialogue continues long after the brief communication when the hands and the clay see each other, they know. • 14. The Impact Of Sports On Sports And Leisure Activities Section A Introduction Despite it being 2015, there are still many ongoing barriers which are preventing many people of all ages, races, genders and social backgrounds from participating in sports and leisure activities. Economically, some sports are just completely unviable to people from certain backgrounds. Sports such as Polo are completely exclusive to a certain class of people, due to the mass expenses required to get you started. Inner city families, some of whom may have a member of the household unemployed would never be able to foot the cost of the bills to play Polo. Along with the unfeasibility of the costs of certain sports, people are also being excluded from sport due to the social side of the spectrum. Many sports are perceived as having gender ties and many children are brought up to identify that a certain sport shouldn t be played by boys as it is a girls sport and vice versa. This leads to a massive social stigma that is developed during the formative years of schooling that influences children s decisions on what sports they decide to play. It can also be tied into many cases of Homophobia in schools, where many homophobic slurs may be attached to a girl who enjoys rugby, or a boy who enjoys gymnastics. Due to the low number of combination between the sexes in many sports as children, this leads to a deficiency of integration as adults, therefore making it more difficult to get involved in a sport as an adult, due to the sport being either male ... This has made it a very key subject in various aspects of law practice and study. Zweigert and Kötz identify four major areas where it has been widely and effectively used . These include being used as an aid to legislators, as a component of the curriculum in universities, a tool of construction and as a contributor to the systemic unification of law. This is done by reviewing and evaluating how it has been used in different countries of the world for legislative purposes and in the molding of the existing legal structures and systems. The topic of the influence of foreign and cooperative law in the legislation process has widely been investigated by several scholars. How rigid and how formal that structure is, can be reliant upon the type of organization. A large government agency or a corporation will evidently have several layers of management and will have an authoritative expression and direction for and of its members. Even minor groups, a family unit for instance, have a need to have a precise statement of individual responsibility and overall goals, while also maintaining an authoritative structure of headship. If each member of the organization has high productivity output then it will take fewer wage hours, to achieve the volumes necessary, than the budget originally accounts for. However there can also be negative effects from high productivity levels. For example, the quicker a team works the more latent the possibility for inefficiencies and injuries to occur. This can in reality counteract any of the financial gains achieved from the higher productivity of the team by having to insert additional wage hours in order to repair quality control issues as well as the additional costs related to expected lost work hours. The objective now becomes how to increase productivity and perhaps profitability, all the while restricting the potential for those negative side effects to take place. However, Velasquez became regretful of his decision. He thought Cortez wanted to conquer the Mayans for his own personal gains. Velasquez attempted to change his orders, but it was too late. Cortez set sail and continued to put his fleet together. In 1519, Cortez explored the Yucatan coastline. Landing in Tabasco, Cortez captured the natives. Although, Tabasco people possessed little of value, they told Cortez of the great treasures of the Aztec Empire. Cortez moved his troops northward and conquered the port of Vera Cruz. In Vera Cruz, Cortez made plans to advance against the Aztecs. He took a Tabasco woman and enlisted her help to supplement his army. Cortez used her to translate the native language to Aguilar. Aguilar was another Spaniard shipped wreck at the port of Vera Cruz. He had learned the language of the natives. Aguilar translated the language to Cortez troops. They learned about the traditions of the Aztec people. Cortez used this information he gathered to defeat the Aztecs. Finally, he convinced the native tribes to fight with him against the Aztecs. He knew he needed these allies to conquer the Aztec empire. With the knowledge of a myth about a white god, he was able to betray Montezuma II. Quetzalcoatl was an Aztecan god. • 34. A Evolution Of The Late Jurassic Charophytes are green algae that have been found in fresh water to moderately brackish water environments. Their gyrogonites are minute oval or round calcareous bodies that represent the calcified parts of the oogonium i. e. the female reproductive organs. Most of the plant consists of organic matter that decays shortly after death. Under some circumstances the stems and branches of the plant become calcified and are also preserved in the geologic record. In the absence of the planktonic and benthonic foraminifers, ostracodes and charophytes becomes valuable biostratigraphic tool for geologic analysis and interpretation (Carbonel, 1988; Colin Lethiers, 1988; Martin Closas Schudack, 1996, Schudack, 2000 2006). Moreover the charophytes have been the focus of intensive work since the early 1960, since it was hope to obtain valuable information on the dating, biostratigraphic and paleoecology of the strata (Schudack, 2002 2004). The present study attempts a comprehensive biostratigraphic evolution of the Late Jurassic Early Cretaceous sequence at Messak escarpment based on the stratigraphic distribution of the charophytes species as this type of microfossils have not been studied before in Libya as well as the study area has never been studied for charophytes beforehand. On the basis of the stratigraphic distribution of charophytes it is possible to subdivide the Late Jurassic Early Cretaceous sequence into four assemblage zones. These are described in ascending ... • 35. Classification Of Horses Essay The typical way to classify horses is by breed. The American Quarter horse is the most popular breed in America, especially in Texas. They are the work horses on ranches, the most popular for showing and competing in speed events such as barrel racing. Another popular breed is the Paint horse, which to me is nothing me than an American Quarter horse that is not a solid color, usually they are brown or black with white areas on their bodies. There is also the Arabian breed, they are known for their endurance, which I am sure they get from their ancestors being used in the desserts of Arabia. The third and hopefully final horse addition to our family was the POA. His name is appropriately, Pony. Pony is 15 years old, this makes him middle aged in the horse world. Of course with age, comes wisdom. In the horse world, with age usually comes dominance as well, Pony should be the leader of the herd based on his age, but Storm, being our first, will not let that happen. When all three are in the pasture, Storm is the protector of the herd, a small herd it may be, but it is still his herd. When other horses get close to the fence, Storm will run at the fence, kick his feet up, snort through his nose like a raging bull and stop right before hitting the fence; after all it is an electric fence. Magic will get excited and run around acting similar but never getting between Storm and the other horses, defending the herd is Storm s job and his right. If the other two try to intervene, he will turn on them. Pony stands by, out of the way and watches the young ones act foolish. When there aren t any other horses around, Storm will let the other two know he his in charge by chasing them and pining back his ears, which is a sign of anger or alert for a horse. • 36. Cilia Function Cilia are organelles protruding from body cells, consisting of microtubules. These structures are important for hemostasis and cell development. Along with a group of proteins called kinesins superfamily proteins (KSFs), the cilia also play an important role in SHH signaling. The proteins found in this family serve a variety of functions relating to microtubule regulation, such as KIF4A and KIF21A. KIF4A controls microtubule length during cell division, whereas KIF21A inhibits microtubule growth at the cell cortex. A prominent member of this family is the protein KIF7, a homologue of the protein Costal2 (Cos2) found in Drosophila and zebrafish. Both serve relatively similar functions with relation to the Hh signaling pathway, though there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The level of activity of Gli genes, and thus Hh pathway activation, determines skin tumor phenotype: high level signaling is shown to result in BCC and low level signaling is shown to result in follicular derived tumors such as basaloid follicular hamartoma (BFH) (2). Gli2 is involved in the expression of cell cycle regulation genes in the Shh pathway such as E2F1, CCND1, CDC2 and epidermal differential genes. Over expression of Gli2 causes the up regulation of such cell cycle regulation genes in developing hair follicles. Shh activation most specifically promotes degradation of the p53 tumor suppressor gene (2), thus repressing transcription of p21, a key suppressor of cyclin E in cell cycle regulation. Thus, G1 arrest is overrode, and the inability to control cell cycle is promoted: a key feature of cancer. Sufu and Kif7 have overlapping functions in regulating Gli transcription factors. Specifically, Gli2 forms a complex with Sufu to prevent transcriptional activity via preventing accumulation of Gli2 transcriptional factors into the nucleus, thus repressing Hh pathway transduction (3). Sufu also plays a role in stabilizing Gli2 by blocking Spop, an E3 ligase involved in degradation of Gli2 (3). In keratinocytes, Kif7 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the 1950 s, the dream appears in a hazy view of the perfect life. People are almost brainwashed everyone s life looks exactly the same. The narrator of this story is a lonely alcoholic who begins to distrust his beloved cat, and so he harms it and later kills it, just because he wants to be in control. He wants to prove his power. Lastly comes the civil rights movement, where people are willing to give their lives for equality. Their dream is for everyone to be treated the same way, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, and disabilities. Unfortunately, the struggle for civil rights is somewhat still a reality as author Barbara Ehrenreich documents in her novel Nickel and Dimed. Her novel is a personal account of a social experiment performed on people with low wage lifestyles. Her book smashes stereotypes to try to help break down the barriers of discrimination. That speed was set because the crash protection standards that must protect occupants of passenger vehicles is set at 30 mph. However, because passenger vehicles how must protect occupants that are involved in frontal impact crashes at up to 35 mph, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued a notice of proposed rule making that requires ICC bumpers to be withstand a crash at up to 35 mph. The ICC bumpers are required on most trailers and semitrailers so that should a vehicle hit the trailer from the rear, the guards keep the vehicle from going under the trailer. According to the NHTSA, many newer trailers already meet this regulation. If the regulation is put in place, it would affect Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards ... Although the ICC bumpers don t protect vehicles that hit the trailer or trucks at the outer edges, the bumpers have saved many lives in crashes where the vehicle struck a truck or trailer from the inner edges to the center. • 39. Integrated Services Digital Network ( Isdn ) Before we get into the discussion, let s briefly introduce some of the technologies used in WANs and the different characteristics of each one: Point to point links A so called point to point link (Fig. 2.0) provides a pre established WAN communication path from the user s location trough a telephone company s network, also known as the carrier. For this kind of line, the carrier dedicates pairs of wire and hardware to that line only. This kind of circuits are priced depending on bandwidth needed and distance to be covered. (Figure 2.0 Point to point link) Circuit Switching Work like a normal telephone line. Data connections can be started when needed and terminated when the communication is over. An example of circuit switching is called Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN). When a router receives data that s intended to go to a specific remote site, the switched circuit (Fig. 2.1) is initiated with a specific circuit number for that particular network. As soon the two networks that are trying to connect get the authentication done, it is possible to transfer data. When data transmission is over, the communication gets terminated. (Figure 2.1 Switched Circuit) Packet Switching Here users share common carrier resources (Fig. 2.2). This is a more cost effective solution compared for example to point to point lines. The carrier can make more efficient use of its infrastructure. Connections into the carrier s network are shared between many customers and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Reaction Time Aim: To determine the statistical properties (mean, standard deviation and tendencies in data) of an individual s reaction time when tested with audial and visual stimuli, as well as the importance of these properties. Notes and Comments In this experiment students will use a reaction time test to determine the delay between audial and visual stimuli being displayed and the student reacting. Once a large (N 3) sample size is taken, statistical calculations can be made to determine the mean, and standard deviation; these calculations help us build a mathematical model that can then help predict the possibilities of data points lying on a number.
