Historical and Current Roles of Families and Parents Essay
Historical and Current Roles of Families and Parents
The central theme of this essay is empowerment and the roles that parents, schools and
professionals take on in the quest for the best educational decisions for those children with
disabilities and those children that are gifted and talented. It is important to understand the
historical development of family professional relationships to fully comprehend the significance
how far we ve come and how far we still need to go. In Chapter One, the authors discuss the eight
major roles that families and parents have experienced over time. These roles range from the
eugenics movement (1880 1930) which pointed to the parents as the sole cause of a child s
disability to today s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Chapter 2
SCHOOLS AS SYSTEMS: THE CONTEXT FOR FAMILY PROFESSIONAL
COLLABORATION
Chapter two describes the general education reform movement that has resulted in enhanced
curriculum for all students. There has been a separate reform movement in special education that
has also resulted in restructuring student placement and service delivery systems for these students.
Most recently, the two reform movements are beginning to converge. The general education reform
was started when a national commission report, A Nation at Risk, recommended educational
improvements because U.S. students did not compare favorably in testing results with their
counterparts in Japan and Germany. This has resulted in local school districts taking more direct
responsibility for decision making that would affect all students and has included a stronger parent
role in advocating for change. Along with this type of school reform, there has been a focus on
schools providing comprehensive services for students and families that face multiple hurdles so
that families can have their needs met for social, mental and public health services and coordinated
in a single point of entry the school. The special education reform movement established a free,

The nature of the good life from a philosophical point of view is not as simple as the typical
picture that may pop into one s head of lying on a beach in a tropical paradise sipping frozen
daiquiris. Depending on which type of ethical model you use will change the picture. For
Thucydides his view point seems to be that Might is Right versus Plato s Might for Right as well as
a search for what is right. Another way to differentiate the two would be to say one is for what I
have the right to do and that makes it right verses what is the right thing to do and what makes it
right.
To determine whether the claims that Thucydides is making are ... Show more content on

He is clearly stating that one plus one is two. If we (the Athenians) attack, the Spartans are not
going to help you because based on our observations they are more about serving their interests than
yours (the Melians). Thucydides, further illustrates this by proving the Athenians were right in their
calculations of the situation. His story is not only empirical, they are a direct attack on normative
ethics. The Melians believed they knew what was right and that the Spartans would come to their
aid because they believed it was the right thing to do. But they were proven to be incorrect,
supporting the idea that this story was not only empirical but a disagreement in the validity of
normative ethics.
Plato however I believe would have been on the side of the Melians in Thucydides story.
Interestingly enough Socrates would have died just as he does in his own story The Apology of
placing all his beliefs in normative ethics. In Plato s The Apology he begins his tale with a
blatant normative argument. He states that the Athenians assigned Socrates a post during a battle
and that he stood his ground and did not leave because he believed it was the right thing to do.
By definition normative ethics are ethics based on values. There is no way to measure values.
Unlike a math equation there is no right or wrong answer. What I believe to be true and just is not
the same for all others. Plato goes on further to

Tereus Injustices In Ovid s Metamorphoses
Further on, in Book Six of Metamorphoses , Ovid introduces readers to the characters of Tereus
and his wife, Procne. Tereus, at his wife s request, brings her sister, Philomela, for a visit.
However, he becomes so captivated by Philomela that he imprisons, rapes, and mutilates her. In
order to avenge Tereus, Procne along with Philomela, trick Tereus into consuming the flesh of his
own son. The story of Tereus, Procne and Philomela exists as one of absolute extremes. It contains
the most vicious rape, the most brutal mutilation and finally the most horrific form of retaliation:
cannibalism. Procne and Philomela know that the act of feeding their only son to Tereus would
inflict the greatest sense of revenge to not only parallel the evil acts that Tereus commits unto

In most societies, rape and mutilation exist among the worst crimes imaginable, already labeling
Tereus s initial crimes as unjust. However, the act of Tereus feasting on another human s flesh,
especially the flesh of his own offspring, defies all laws of humanity. Though Tereus is the
consumer of the human meal, Procne and Philomela, do not escape free of repercussion either.
The ethics of revenge become a troublesome issue. New battle lines are drawn, as the characters
lose all moral grounding and are drawn into the perpetration of uncontrolled, orgiastic violence
(Gildenhard, Zissos 36). In the end, the act of cannibalism is so atrocious that it implicates all parties

Driving under the influence
Even though people who drink regularly feel there is no issue with driving after one or two
drinks, people should think about the severe consequences that come from driving under the
influence. Numerous people die every year due to intoxicated drivers. There are ways of avoiding
these life changing risks. Appointing a designated driver before drinking or calling an uber is a
smart way to plan ahead. Unfortunately not everyone takes the initiative to prevent these avoidable
circumstances.
There are a large number of wrecks due to drunk drivers. For example, In 2015, 10,265 people
died in alcohol impaired driving crashes, accounting for nearly one third (29%) of all traffic
related deaths in the United States (Impaired Driving). These crashes are not only harmful, but
can also be very expensive. People who drink and drive typically do not consider the potential costs
that will be incurred if pulled over by police, state highway patrol or sheriff deputies as well as
being involved in an accident or fatal car crash. Drunk driving costs the United States $199 billion
per year (Snyder). This includes the expense of road clean up, medical services, court cases,
insurance and much more. These costs are leading indicators of how extensive and severe drunk
driving is making a devastating financial impact on the American economy.
Drunk drivers tend to be young when caught driving under the

What Is An Unrealist
I didn t think that the movie was very realistic. There were a lot of unrealistic specs as well as
many realistic parts. Some of the unrealistic parts where the gun shots, the explosions, and the
force. Those aren t necessarily unrealistic, in general, but unrealistic to this era. A lot of the
strange thing that happened may very well happen in the future. The first special affect that I
would like to talk about is the gun shots and light sabers. When ever the guns where fired there
would be a streak of light representing the bullet. I would this very unrealistic, because in real life a
bullet would move fast enough so that you wouldn t even see it. Now for the light saber, it didn t

Essay on Plato on the Existence of Negative Forms
Plato on the Existence of Negative Forms
The question of the origin and nature of evil in the world has preoccupied philosophers throughout
history. The ancient philosopher Plato does not directly address this question in his writings, but it
can be argued that the logic of his theory of forms demands the existence of forms that are negative
in meaning, such as the evil and the bad. When discussing his theory of imitation, Plato alludes to
the principle that whenever there are many things of the same nature, there is one form for that
nature. In several passages, Plato makes mention of many negative things. It can be debated,
however, whether or not the negative has a positive ontological character of its own for ... Show

He writes:
Now, the god either because he didn?t want to or because it was not necessary for him to do so,
didn?t make more than one bed in nature, but only one, the very one that is the being of a bed.
Two or more of these have not been made by the god and never will be.
Why is that?
Because, if he made only two, then again one would come to light whose form they in turn would
both possess, and that would be the one that is the being of a bed and not the other two.[2]
Plato is saying that there is only one form for the many because there is a single nature that is
recognized as unifying each of the many. It is this nature that imitates the form and since the nature
is one, there can only be one form.
There are several points in the Republic where Plato alludes to many instances of a negative
quality, so it can be argued that, according to Plato?s system, there must be one negative form.
For the purpose of analyzing Aristotle?s criticism of Plato, David Ross outlines three distinct
respects in which a term can be considered negative.[3] The first category of negative terms that
Ross identifies are those which are ?purely negative in their meaning? such as the ?not good? or
?not beautiful.? What the many not good have in common is the absence of being good. The
second class of negative terms in Ross?s division encompasses terms that are positive in the sense
that they express a quality

Baking Soda Experiment
Rockets Powered by Baking Soda and Vinegar
Introduction:
A chemical change can be caused by combining two compounds, such as baking soda (NaHCO3)
and vinegar (CH3COOH). The change that is taking place is because of the chemical property of
reactivity. When these two compounds react CO2 is produced. In this experiment we wanted to
see how much baking soda, added to 10mL of vinegar, would cause a film canister rocket to shoot
the farthest. I predicted that 10mL of baking soda would shoot the farthest because it would be
equal to the amount of vinegar in the canister. The independent variable in this experiment was the
amount of baking soda and the dependent variable was how far the lid would shoot.
Materials:
Paper towel
Vinegar
Baking Soda
Film canister
Goggles (eye protection)
Measuring tools
Methods:
1.Measure and cut 9 pieces of paper towel 10cm x 12cm
2.Put 10mL vinegar in film canister
3.Measure baking soda, place in paper towel and fold it up
4.Put paper towel in canister and snap the lid on

My decision for this case is to implement the Just In Time Distribution (JITD) system. Barilla
SpA, an Italian pasta manufacturer, is experiencing amplified levels of inefficiencies and rising
costs due to variability in demand from its distributors. In order to bring things back into place and
to improve margins, Giorgio Magialli, the Director of Logistics at Barilla wants to implement a Just
In Time Distribution (JITD) system that was proposed by his ... Show more content on

Subsequently, this is the first reason for demand fluctuation because it results in excessive
promotional activities. Barilla also offers volume discounts; paying for transportation to
distributors and offering incentives of 2% to 3% for orders in full truck load quantities which was
another reason for demand fluctuation. Accordingly, most distributors place their orders with
Barilla once a week yet their sales volumes vary; another reason for Barilla s inefficiency since
there was no limit in order quantities from its distributors. Nearly all of the distributors have
computer supported ordering systems but only a few of them have sophisticated forecasting
systems or analytical tools for determining order quantities. Consequently, this indicated a lack of
sophisticated forecasting techniques and it is our final reason for demand fluctuation.
The impact of the issues mentioned earlier is really hurting Barilla s entire channel. The extreme
demand of order variability overburdened Barilla s manufacturing and logistics operation and
causes a Bullwhip effect in the entire supply chain. In addition, it is very difficult to quickly
produce a particular pasta product that has been sold out due to unanticipated high demand, which
results in poor product delivery. Furthermore, holding sufficient finished goods inventories to meet
distributors order requirements is very expensive and difficult to predict which results in increased
inventory carrying costs.

Task: Why do people find it easier to do evil than good? Due date: 06th August, 2012.
In human life there are two things that may identify the human beings. Some of these things are
whether the human beings do evil or good. In this case some people may find it easier to do evil
than good. Before looking at the reason s why people find it easy to do evil than good it is
important to define first these two terms. The term good may be defined ... Show more content on

In so doing, people may opt for doing evil than good. In this reason, scholars indicate that, most of
the times evil things outweighs the good just because of the humanity lazy nature. Therefore
people may find it easier to do evil other than good because they know that through evil they will
fulfill their aims in a simple way unlike good which needs much effort to be fulfilled.
Another thing that makes people to easily choose doing evil and leave good is desire.
Sometimes people may go for evil than good in order to fulfill their desires. This term desire is
used to explain what one wishes to be or to do. Human beings find it easier to do evil than good
in order to satisfy their wishes. Every man or woman desires to live in his or her own particular
way of living and does everything in order to achieve his or her wishes. For example, two kinds
of people in the society, that is to say, the prominent figures in the society as well as the ordinary
or the poor people may choose the evil ways to fulfill their desires. People may use corruption to
achieve whatever they plan to do. In this case for example, world activities provide setting in which
one is required to exhibit moral goodness but the actual content of these activities have no intrinsic
value. Some scholars indicate that, the fulfillment of one s duty may have beneficial consequences
for one self and others

Description Of Aquila Constellation
AQUILA Constellation written by Chance Gearhart for AST 102, Fall 2017
Introduction:
Aquila is a constellation, not an asterism. A constellation is a group of stars forming a recognizable
pattern that is traditionally named after its apparent form or identified with a mythological figure.
Aquila is located in the northern sky close to the celestial equator. In Latin, Aquila means the eagle.
The purpose of this assignment is for students to learn how to recognize the Aquila constellation in
the night sky and learn about the stars and mythology behind it.
Description of Aquila:
The Aquila constellation is usually described as the eagle. The stars in this constellation form an
arrow in the sky. It looks similar to a bird with two large triangles spreading out on both sides and
a small tail from the back. Aquila is home to Altair, which is the brightest star in its constellation but
also the twelfth brightest star in the night sky. There is a picture of Aquila in the night sky in the
attachment to this paper.
How to locate Aquila:
The Aquila constellation is best seen in the northern summer due to its location along the Milky
Way. To locate Aquila it is best to first locate Altair in the Summer Triangle asterism. The Summer
Triangle is made out of three stars: Vega, Altair, and Deneb. Altair should be relatively easy to find
because it is a first magnitude star. It will be the second brightest star in the Summer Triangle. After
finding Altair, you should look for the

by overpopulation of dogs from individuals meaning to buy their dogs from breeders instead of

Impact Of Historical Globalization On Contemporary Society
This source expresses its view on impacts of historical globalization on contemporary society. The
perspective of this source clearly states that historical globalization is not relevant or needed in
current society. Elements of the source explain how society should not spend time dwelling on
events or legacies of globalization that can not be changed. It is clear that the author of this source
has reason to believe that history should not affect the way our world is run today. The perspective
presented in the source illustrates that historical globalization is a very complex issue. One
perspective suggests that historical globalization should remain in the pastbecause we should not be
wasting timeon events of the past and focus on the presentand the future. Others, however, believe
that history is relevant to the present and is important in today s society. In evaluating the issue, it
is clear there are both positives and negatives to historical globalization in contemporary society
because it prevents history from repeating itself, allows us to improve upon ourselves, but also
prevents us from focusing on the future.
Historical globalization is important in today s society, as it prevents troubled times from
repeating. There is no doubt that our world has failed many times in the past. But, as said by many
wise people, you can always learn from your mistakes. Indian Residential Schools are an example

Does Father really know best? In Corporate America, men seem to want full control. Our
organizations have been created by men for men and they have great opposition to women
infiltrating their management positions. Men have created glass ceilings for women in the
workplace. A glass ceilingis an artificial barrier that allows women to see the top of the corporate
ladder but at the same time denies them access to the higher rungs of that ladder. Women keep
hitting their heads on the glass ceiling until they develop so many knots on their heads that
eventually they give up on their goals and ambitions. Father knows best! I don t think so! More

As you see, educational attainment is a key ingredient to shattering the glass. Women are
beginning to see that the best way to get to the top of any type of business is to create their own
business. In women owned businesses today, the women seem to accept any business background
shortcomings and seek education and training before they take the leap. Women try to base their
decisions on logic and on sound business decisions. They do not seem to shoot from the hip the
way many men do in the business world.
In corporations that have dared to hire today s businesswoman, it seems these women officials are
easier to work with in a consensus team building environment. Women tend to offer higher wages
to their employees and fight for better benefits for them as well. Women know the need for
flexible hours, childcare, and better insurance. All in all, it seems that women understand the
problems of their employees. They work hard to be number one and in turn make their employees
feel like they are number one to them.In most corporations today, the glass ceiling goes unnoticed
and certainly unquestioned. Corporations boast of being a great place for women to work, but
women are always middle management, not higher management. Women are only 2% of the top
wage earners in Fortune 500 companies, according to the Department of Labor. Of these women

In 2009, the World Bank declared its 5x5 Initiative which aimed to reduce the cost of financial
transfer from 10% of the total value of the transfer in 2009 to 5% in 2014. While the global average
cost has decreased to 7.9% by the 3rd quarter of 2014, many prices of money transfer to sub
Saharan Africa remain above 10% at 11.28%. Today, Money Transfer Operations remain
substantially cheaper than commercial banks (about 5% cheaper). The international community has
particularly focused on ensuring transparency in pricing with laws such as the United States Dodd
Frank law which mandates that an individual knows the full cost of transferring money overseas at
the moment that she/he sends the order. The hope of reducing costs and increasing transparency is
to allow remittances to create income generating activities.
To accomplish this goal within sub Saharan Africa, where 70% of all money transfers are
controlled by a single company, greater competition is needed to drive prices down.
Although there has been a significant effort in this area, sending states must be convinced that their
tax system should be designed to reward remittance investment into business development and
infrastructure so as to build a strong tax base rather than to seek quick profits from hefty taxes on
the incoming remittances.

Importance Of Humanitarian Award
The Humanitarian award is an award given to someone who improves people s everyday lives
for the better. It inspires people to do great things around the world. It s earned by going out of
your way to be a better person not only for yourself but for everyone around you. That is why I
would nominate my Dad. My Dad is deserving of the Humanitarian award because he s a hard
worker, helps others, and is caring. When I say he is a hard worker I mean doesn t come home
until 10, works every day of the week, and doesn t stop until he gets everything done. My Dad is
the baseball coach at Loras he is very dedicated to his job. He has worked there for about 20
years and is still going strong. Although they don t always win every game my Dad still has a
positive attitude. After he s had a rough game he goes home and tries to figure out ways to
improve. Then gets right back out there and tries again. He is always trying to improve as a
coach. He teaches his players new techniques and skills to better their game. I love seeing the
great relationships he has with his players. After all this only one reason why I would nominate my
dad for this award.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

useful, but I also think that it takes the creativity out of

Analyzing Todd Burpo s Trip To Heaven
Trip to Heaven... And Back
If a survey was conducted about people s biggest fears thanatophobia would be on a list with
arachnophobia, coulrophobia and apiphobia. Many religions have their own ideas on our final
resting place . There are theories revolving around reincarnation, Heaven and Hell, one s own
planet and many more. All of these fantasies have one thing in common: little to no scientific
reasoning. There are stories occasionally that prove a theory but overall it is a bunch of he says,

Todd Burpo does a remarkable job translating, three year old, Colton s descriptions of his trip to
Heaven... and back.
Another positive I found while reading the book Heaven is for Real is that I could not put it
down. This was because chapters were short and they always left the reader at a cliff hanger.
Burpo did a outstanding job keeping the reader engaged and wanting more by somehow creating
cliffhangers after every chapter. Whether it was whether Colton was going to make it out of
surgery or mid conversation about Colton s still born sister, Burpo made it impossible to not start
the next chapter to find out the answer or details to the newest bomb Colton dropped on his parents.
While some may be completely convinced by the innocence of the book, many skeptics
(including myself) would say Heaven is for Real is to monotonous and predictable. All of Colton
s experiences follows a pattern. He tells his father little detail out of the blue. His father
experiences a gasp or feels his heart skip a beat. Then he quotes the bible with some piece of
scripture that fits. Finally, Colton gets bored and runs off. This pattern is repeated through the entire

History Of The FASB
Jocelyn: What is the FASB?
The Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) is a non profit association that designs and
updates the generally accepted accounting principles (GAAPs). These rigorous accounting
principles are used in the private sector during the preparation of mandatory financial reports that
are given to shareholders, the public or government agencies.
How Did the FASB Originate?
The Financial Accounting Standards Board was established in 1973 by the Securities and Exchange
Commission (SEC). Previously, there were semi standard accounting principles that were overseen
by the Accounting Principles Board (APB), which was part of the American Institute of Certified
Public Accountants (AICPA). However, unstandardized accounting... Show more content on

that cover historic costs, revenue recognition, matching and full disclosure. For instance, the
historical cost principle mandates that companies report their asset and liability acquisition costs
instead of reporting the fair market value. On the other hand, the revenue recognition principle
states that companies must only record earned revenue, not received revenue. This forms the basis
of accrual basis accounting. Finally, there are four basic constraints, which include objectivity,
materiality, consistency and conservatism. To illustrate, the objectivity principle mandates that
financial statements produced by the company s accountants must be based on factual evidence.
Conversely, the consistency principle means that the company must use the same accounting
methodology for every accounting period. Overall, the GAAP provides structured consistency and

Effects Of Communist Manifesto On Human Values
The Effects of Karl Marx s Communist Manifesto on Human Values
What was it like living in the times before the Communist Manifesto was introduced to society?
What kind of affect did this document have on the values of the average family? How did it
influence the values of the individual? Sometimes these values where affected in a way that does
not come directly from the release of the Manifesto but instead vicariously through other events

Likewise, many of the old workers had been thrown out of employment, 3 and these numbers only
grew into the year of 1848. In a way Marx talks about this problem in the Communist Manifesto. In
this document, Marx introduced his idea to incorporate socialism into the government before
communism. This is mainly because socialism would prepare the way by nationalizing the
means of production and putting them under the control of those he viewed as the sole
producers of wealth: the workers. 4 This would take the control out of the hands of the wealthy
and it would be given to those people that had been the poorest in the previous years. His goal
was to get the common people to have a changed view of work once they started to be in charge
of the producing of goods. This way, there would be no rich and no poor, only economic equality
would result.
Marx was intent on the subject of human change. Marx was often confronted with the charge that
he was trying to change human nature. However, his rebuttal was that human nature [had] changed
many times in the past, 5 and that it was possible to change it again. He acknowledged that it
would have to be a gradual change, but it was able to change. After all, we as humans are products
of our environment, particularly of the economic system in which we live. 6 The government and

Film Noir Conventions
What is Film Noir? Film Noir literally means Black Film in French, the French coined this after
World War 2 when they were finally able to view American films again after the war and they
found that these films were quite different than what they used to be. These films had a completely
different atmosphere, a different emotion that was displayed. Film Noirhad a very distrustful air
about its nature, lacking integrity. Every scene was cloaked in darkness and the plot had a
looming sense of despair (TheBook). The war left America in dark times and FilmNoir was one of
the ways from them to express it. Film Noir was extremely popular in America through the 1940
s to the 1950 s. Hundreds of American films were under the Film Noir classification. But what
was Film Noir? Was it a Genre, a style, a period in time? Paul Schrader, in an article about Film
Noir said, Film Noir is not a genre. It is not defined, as are the western and gangster genres, by
conventions of setting and conflict, but rather by the more subtle qualities... Show more content on

There are several key characteristics that are easily seen in Film Noir. Most of the film has
minimal lighting. Many of the scenes are at night or in a room with a singular dim light source.
The actors and the environment receive the same amount of light, blending them in a way. The
audience only sees what they need to see, the rest is in a shroud of mystery. Film Noir also used
lines and shapes to convey feeling in the film. They would use oblique and vertical lines, oblique
to give the feeling of instability and vertical to evoke tenuity. They would also use jagged shapes
such as triangles and trapezoids to make the audience feel uneasy and tense. Film Noir also had
an obsession with the use of water. Characters were often by the sea or lakes, many scenes would
be shot in the rain, and even if it had not rained the roads would commonly be glazed with the
glossy sheen of wet pavement and pothole

Comparing Pride And Prejudice And Our Mutual Friend, By...
During the 19th century, men were the ones who typically proposed to women. However, men
did not solely ask for their hand in marriage, they also had to formulate something to say. In the
books Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen and Our Mutual Friend by Charles Dickens, there are
two men who decide to propose to someone they take liking in. Those men are William Collins

Human Ecology And Its Effects On Society
The world we live in is a complex place full of networks and connections that are often veiled
from our immediate perspectives. The natural resources and, material culture stemming from that,
made available to humans directly affect the ways in which we are able to organize and conduct
our lives. The ways in which we organize the space around us is a clear indication of wealth, race,
or ethnicity. The minorities are often kept in isolation from the wealthier areas of society (be that
economic wealth or natural resource wealth) which directly affects the jobs the minorities are able
to obtain and further inhibits a lessening of racism by preventing a mixed association of races and
different groups of people. Without the understanding of other people, racism is allowed to
continue through the simple lack of social interaction.
It is things such as these that interests ecologists. Human ecology is a study that focuses on
relationships between different social lives and the implications of the connections between those
and the physical world around them. A vivid example of the altered relations through a shifting
physical environment is found within the creation of central heating. Before each room was able to
be heated, families would often gather together in a central room where there was warmth around a
fireplace. This setting promoted people to interact on a regular basis and thus encourage the
familial relationship. After the creation of central heating, those

Title
To What Extent Does the UK Macroeconomic Environment Affect the Regional House Prices in the
UK?
Background
Real estate markets are closely related to macroeconomics, as was demonstrated by the global
financial crisis of the late 2000s. The crisis originated in the real estate market when mortgage
interest rates were low. The demand for real estate increased and banks offered risky subprime
mortgages (Lopus, 2013). The financial crisis led to a debate across scholars on the macroeconomic
factors that affected the development of the price bubble in real estate markets. On the one hand,
irrational investors may determine the changes in real estate markets as suggested by Brunnermeier
and Julliard (2008) and Case and Shiller (2003). On the other hand, Goodman and Thibodeau (2008)
argued that fundamental macroeconomic factors determine the developments in real estate markets
to the greatest extent. This research addresses this debate and explores the effects of
macroeconomic environment on the real estate prices in the UK. The focus of the study is made on
the determinants of regional real estate prices in the country. Aims and Objectives
The aim of the paper is to explore to what extent the UK macroeconomic environment affects
regional real estate prices. The following objectives of the dissertation are formulated: To measure
the effects of economic growth, unemployment, housing stock and interest rates on the UK regional
real estate prices; To compare regional

Nokia was the world s largest mobile phone maker for 14 years. The company was once
acclaimed for its marketing strategy success for changing mobile phones from just a
communication device to everyday fashion accessories. However, in today s global smartphone
market, Nokia has only 3% of the market share and is declining. The company s decreasing sales

The Columbian Exchange And The Columbian Exchange
In 1492, one of the most important exchanges in our history began. At that time, there was a
need for spices and tradable goods and supplies. There were some people who just wanted a
direct route to the trade supply in Asia, and there were others who wanted wealth or to spread the
word of God. Christopher Columbus believed that the world was in fact round, but he was
unaware the actual size of the planet. He sailed west in search of the East Indies, however he
reached the CaribbeanIslands of the Americas instead. By this accidental encounter with the foreign
islands and people, Christopher started the Columbus exchange. The exchange was widespread
throughout Europe, Africa and the Americas around the 15th and 16th centuries. In the trade, many
things were introduced to all three continents. Examples of those things were ideas, people, plants,
animals, technology, etc. The exchange affected the Old World and the New World
very differently.
Europe had definitely benefited the most, while others weren t quite so lucky.
Europe had been affected by the Columbian Exchange greatly. They had gained so much from it.

Carmina Burana
A work that many have, at least heard a piece, of is Carmina Burana. Carl Orff composed this
piece of music in 1936. A German, he was one of few composers that continued work during the
Anti Semitic rule of the country. Orff based his work off of a collection of poems found at the
monastery of Benedikbeuren that dates back to the Twelfth Century! Carmina Burana is a set of
twenty five pieces that concern many of things going in everyone s life today. Drinking, gambling,
love, sex, fate, and fortune are just a few of the topics Orff composed of.1 In this concert report I

Before reading the text in translation, this piece gave the idea of a rabbit jumping through to
pasture or meadow to a novice listener like myself. This piece picks up from the last movement
still pertaining to fortune. In the latter part of this piece Orff actually wrote in his overall theme
by mentioning the wheel of Fortune turns . The fourth movement, Omnia sol temperat is sung in
a completely different way. It begins with a male soloist singing, accompanied softly by violins.
The way Orff chose to display this movement shows that there is no defined rhythm he is
following. The soloist singing in a profound masculine voice sets the tone for this movement. The
next movement discussed stands out as being one of the longest works of the cantata. In taberna
quando sumus opens with stringed instruments followed by percussion, and then a variety of
other instruments join with the chorus. When we are in the tavern , the title sets this piece up for
what I think would have a been a popular movement when it originated. Orff tells of drinking and
gambling at the tavern, then goes on to list thirty names such as the rich man and the poor man
that all drink. This stood out to me because I didn t see this coming at all! It is also my least my

Economic inequality refers to how economic metrics are distributed among individuals in a group,
among groups in a population, or among countries. Economists generally think of three metrics of
economic disparity: wealth, income, and consumption.
Some studies have emphasized inequality as a growing social problem. Too much inequality can be
destructive, because income inequality and wealth concentration can hinder long term growth.
Early statistical studies comparing inequality to economic growth had been inconclusive, There are
various numerical indices for measuring economic inequality. A widely used one is the Gini

Blueback Novel Essay
Blueback Essay
In novels, characters are used to help the author show the way they are constructed. It is evident in
the novel Blueback, by Tim Winton (1997), the construction of characters are what Winton uses to

It is evident in Blueback, that Abel is very loyal to his family and friends. You can see how Abel is
kind and caring to his mother, Dora and how he is loving to his wife, Stella, when he is older.
Through the novel you can also see that he has a very large friendship with Blueback. When
Abel s mother could not walk He cradled her in his arms laid her back and let her float against him

Why Is Softball Harder Than Baseball
Have you ever wondered if softball is harder than baseball, or even the other way around? Both
softball and baseball are challenging sports. They have the same basics, and some of the same
rules. They have plenty of things in common, but one is definitely harder than the other. Softball is
harder than baseballbecause of the size of the bats and balls, the reaction time, and the difference
in pitching. First, you must know the comparison of a softball, a baseball, and both of their bats.
A softball is 12 inches in diameter, and a baseball is 5 inches. Also, a softball is heavier than a
baseball, so therefore it takes a lot more effort to throw and hit. Though, a softball is bigger, it is

while the sun is beating down hard on your skin, and your eyes, it may be a little harder to see.
The diameter of a softball bat is usually around 2 Вј inches, but a baseball bat is around 2 Вѕ inches

Since the softball field is much smaller than a baseball field, you have a lot less reaction time
than you think. The pitching mound is closer to the home plate in a softball field. Therefore,
when a pitch is thrown to the home plate, you have to see the ball and make sure that you have
enough time to swing your bat. Also, while the pitching mound very close to home plate, the
pitcher also has to figure out a way to get the batter out. They could throw curveballs, screwballs,
or rise balls. This gives the batter much less of an advantage at the home plate. With the pitcher
throwing these kinds of balls, the batter still has very little reaction

Obama Reflection
For my seminar, my group and I did Obamacare and Birth Control and the theme we had chosen
was The corruption of power, which allows racism, sexism, and religious intolerance to flourish .
Firstly, Obamacare is called Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act , but it is usually called,
ACA . Before I go into further detail regarding ACA, there is a big misconception regarding
Obamacare. Obamacare is a health insurancereform, not healthcare reform. Also, Obamacare and
ACA are the same things.
Firstly, ACA was effective on March 23 2010, as a health insurance reform. The ACA required
every citizen in the United States to have health insurance by the year 2014. The reason for this
is that they can balance a number of healthy people to sick people, so they can keep the premiums
down for everybody. Also, the ACA requires all corporations with 50+ employees to pay for their
female employees birth control. For my seminar, I hope to accomplish a court trial seminar. The
trail was supposed to be a trial that was somewhat like the Hobby Lobby case that happened three
years ago.
To create this trial, I wanted it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When I was brainstorming some ideas for our court case, it was very difficult to decide what
will be the reason we are having this court case. But, the biggest obstacle in my seminar was the
lack of group contributions Buy two group members Keshin and Christina. To be honest, Kishen
did more work think Christina even though he didn t show up much. Even though Kishen gave
his part of the work one day before a seminar date, Christina did even doing anything. To get
around this problem, I did their part of the work, so we can finish our seminar and get
somewhere further. The way we overcame the first obstacle is that we made Paige have an illegal
abortion. The reason for that is that the ACA covers abortion. We tried to make it a bit different
from the Hobby Lobby case so it could be

Argumentative Essay On Doctor Faustus
Paper 2 Death is a topic that many people often like to avoid thinking about as well as avoid
discussing. I believe that this is due to the fact that death is the only thing that we can be certain
of in this life and it is in fact inevitable. Everyone lives up to the point of death and death is a
natural part of life that many people do not want to come to terms with. Many people disregard the
thought of death, whether it be hiding behind their religious views, cultural beliefs, or just overall
spending their life living in denial. Often times death is thought of as an inconvenience, causing
one of the most important events that occur in our life to be ignored. There are many reasons as to
why people will not except death and why this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Knowledge is power, and power absolutely delights Doctor Faustus. Although, there was one thing
that Faustus did not know anything about, necromancy. Necromancy is also known as black
magic, which refers to the dead. His main purpose of turning to black magic was so that he could
have more power. Faustus wishes to become a demigod, which is a minor deity. Becoming a
demigod, and learning about black magic will give Doctor Faustus the ultimate power and
knowledge that he is craving to have.
It is very ironic in my opinion that Doctor Faustus put so much time and effort into receiving his
doctorate degree in Theology, and then essentially throws it all away to learn about necromancy,
which is overall the complete opposite teachings of theology. I believe that his decision was
influenced based upon the simple fact that Faustus knew everything that there was to know about
Theology, as well as God. Therefore, he could not except that this was all that there was to life. He
craved to learn about something that he knew many other individuals, including himself, did not
know about or truly understand, being death.
Death is a part of life that many individuals refuse to understand because of the fact that many
people do not feel as if they are ready to die. If they have not lived a full life, or have not done
everything that they wanted to accomplish, death is not something they want to come face to face
with or even think of. Death makes us open our eyes to all of the

  • 2. Historical and Current Roles of Families and Parents Essay Historical and Current Roles of Families and Parents The central theme of this essay is empowerment and the roles that parents, schools and professionals take on in the quest for the best educational decisions for those children with disabilities and those children that are gifted and talented. It is important to understand the historical development of family professional relationships to fully comprehend the significance how far we ve come and how far we still need to go. In Chapter One, the authors discuss the eight major roles that families and parents have experienced over time. These roles range from the eugenics movement (1880 1930) which pointed to the parents as the sole cause of a child s disability to today s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Chapter 2 SCHOOLS AS SYSTEMS: THE CONTEXT FOR FAMILY PROFESSIONAL COLLABORATION Chapter two describes the general education reform movement that has resulted in enhanced curriculum for all students. There has been a separate reform movement in special education that has also resulted in restructuring student placement and service delivery systems for these students. Most recently, the two reform movements are beginning to converge. The general education reform was started when a national commission report, A Nation at Risk, recommended educational improvements because U.S. students did not compare favorably in testing results with their counterparts in Japan and Germany. This has resulted in local school districts taking more direct responsibility for decision making that would affect all students and has included a stronger parent role in advocating for change. Along with this type of school reform, there has been a focus on schools providing comprehensive services for students and families that face multiple hurdles so that families can have their needs met for social, mental and public health services and coordinated in a single point of entry the school. • 3. Written Assignment Michael Scorza Student ID# 0584210 2015SEP PHI 286 OL008 Written Assignment 1; 1of2 The nature of the good life from a philosophical point of view is not as simple as the typical picture that may pop into one s head of lying on a beach in a tropical paradise sipping frozen daiquiris. Depending on which type of ethical model you use will change the picture. For Thucydides his view point seems to be that Might is Right versus Plato s Might for Right as well as a search for what is right. Another way to differentiate the two would be to say one is for what I have the right to do and that makes it right verses what is the right thing to do and what makes it right. To determine whether the claims that Thucydides is making are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He is clearly stating that one plus one is two. If we (the Athenians) attack, the Spartans are not going to help you because based on our observations they are more about serving their interests than yours (the Melians). Thucydides, further illustrates this by proving the Athenians were right in their calculations of the situation. His story is not only empirical, they are a direct attack on normative ethics. The Melians believed they knew what was right and that the Spartans would come to their aid because they believed it was the right thing to do. But they were proven to be incorrect, supporting the idea that this story was not only empirical but a disagreement in the validity of normative ethics. Plato however I believe would have been on the side of the Melians in Thucydides story. Interestingly enough Socrates would have died just as he does in his own story The Apology of placing all his beliefs in normative ethics. In Plato s The Apology he begins his tale with a blatant normative argument. He states that the Athenians assigned Socrates a post during a battle and that he stood his ground and did not leave because he believed it was the right thing to do. By definition normative ethics are ethics based on values. There is no way to measure values. Unlike a math equation there is no right or wrong answer. Research Paper On Drunk Driving Madison McAlpine Mrs. Gallos English 3 21 November 2017 Driving under the influence Even though people who drink regularly feel there is no issue with driving after one or two drinks, people should think about the severe consequences that come from driving under the influence. Numerous people die every year due to intoxicated drivers. There are ways of avoiding these life changing risks. Appointing a designated driver before drinking or calling an uber is a smart way to plan ahead. Unfortunately not everyone takes the initiative to prevent these avoidable circumstances. There are a large number of wrecks due to drunk drivers. For example, In 2015, 10,265 people died in alcohol impaired driving crashes, accounting for nearly one third (29%) of all traffic related deaths in the United States (Impaired Driving). These crashes are not only harmful, but can also be very expensive. People who drink and drive typically do not consider the potential costs that will be incurred if pulled over by police, state highway patrol or sheriff deputies as well as being involved in an accident or fatal car crash. Drunk driving costs the United States $199 billion per year (Snyder). This includes the expense of road clean up, medical services, court cases, insurance and much more. • 11. Essay on Plato on the Existence of Negative Forms Plato on the Existence of Negative Forms The question of the origin and nature of evil in the world has preoccupied philosophers throughout history. The ancient philosopher Plato does not directly address this question in his writings, but it can be argued that the logic of his theory of forms demands the existence of forms that are negative in meaning, such as the evil and the bad. When discussing his theory of imitation, Plato alludes to the principle that whenever there are many things of the same nature, there is one form for that nature. In several passages, Plato makes mention of many negative things. It can be debated, however, whether or not the negative has a positive ontological character of its own for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He writes: Now, the god either because he didn?t want to or because it was not necessary for him to do so, didn?t make more than one bed in nature, but only one, the very one that is the being of a bed. Two or more of these have not been made by the god and never will be. Why is that? Because, if he made only two, then again one would come to light whose form they in turn would both possess, and that would be the one that is the being of a bed and not the other two.[2] Plato is saying that there is only one form for the many because there is a single nature that is recognized as unifying each of the many. It is this nature that imitates the form and since the nature is one, there can only be one form. There are several points in the Republic where Plato alludes to many instances of a negative quality, so it can be argued that, according to Plato?s system, there must be one negative form. For the purpose of analyzing Aristotle?s criticism of Plato, David Ross outlines three distinct respects in which a term can be considered negative.[3] The first category of negative terms that Ross identifies are those which are ?purely negative in their meaning? such as the ?not good? or ?not beautiful.? What the many not good have in common is the absence of being good. The second class of negative terms in Ross?s division encompasses terms that are positive in the sense that they express a quality ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The change that is taking place is because of the chemical property of reactivity. When these two compounds react CO2 is produced. In this experiment we wanted to see how much baking soda, added to 10mL of vinegar, would cause a film canister rocket to shoot the farthest. I predicted that 10mL of baking soda would shoot the farthest because it would be equal to the amount of vinegar in the canister. The independent variable in this experiment was the amount of baking soda and the dependent variable was how far the lid would shoot. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Subsequently, this is the first reason for demand fluctuation because it results in excessive promotional activities. Barilla also offers volume discounts; paying for transportation to distributors and offering incentives of 2% to 3% for orders in full truck load quantities which was another reason for demand fluctuation. Accordingly, most distributors place their orders with Barilla once a week yet their sales volumes vary; another reason for Barilla s inefficiency since there was no limit in order quantities from its distributors. Nearly all of the distributors have computer supported ordering systems but only a few of them have sophisticated forecasting systems or analytical tools for determining order quantities. Consequently, this indicated a lack of sophisticated forecasting techniques and it is our final reason for demand fluctuation. The impact of the issues mentioned earlier is really hurting Barilla s entire channel. The extreme demand of order variability overburdened Barilla s manufacturing and logistics operation and causes a Bullwhip effect in the entire supply chain. In addition, it is very difficult to quickly produce a particular pasta product that has been sold out due to unanticipated high demand, which results in poor product delivery. Furthermore, holding sufficient finished goods inventories to meet distributors order requirements is very expensive and difficult to predict which results in increased inventory carrying costs. Due date: 06th August, 2012. In human life there are two things that may identify the human beings. Some of these things are whether the human beings do evil or good. In this case some people may find it easier to do evil than good. Before looking at the reason s why people find it easy to do evil than good it is important to define first these two terms. The term good may be defined ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In so doing, people may opt for doing evil than good. In this reason, scholars indicate that, most of the times evil things outweighs the good just because of the humanity lazy nature. Therefore people may find it easier to do evil other than good because they know that through evil they will fulfill their aims in a simple way unlike good which needs much effort to be fulfilled. Another thing that makes people to easily choose doing evil and leave good is desire. Sometimes people may go for evil than good in order to fulfill their desires. This term desire is used to explain what one wishes to be or to do. Human beings find it easier to do evil than good in order to satisfy their wishes. Every man or woman desires to live in his or her own particular way of living and does everything in order to achieve his or her wishes. For example, two kinds of people in the society, that is to say, the prominent figures in the society as well as the ordinary or the poor people may choose the evil ways to fulfill their desires. People may use corruption to achieve whatever they plan to do. It is clear that the author of this source has reason to believe that history should not affect the way our world is run today. In this document, Marx introduced his idea to incorporate socialism into the government before communism. This is mainly because socialism would prepare the way by nationalizing the means of production and putting them under the control of those he viewed as the sole producers of wealth: the workers. 4 This would take the control out of the hands of the wealthy and it would be given to those people that had been the poorest in the previous years. His goal was to get the common people to have a changed view of work once they started to be in charge of the producing of goods. This way, there would be no rich and no poor, only economic equality would result. Marx was intent on the subject of human change. Marx was often confronted with the charge that he was trying to change human nature. However, his rebuttal was that human nature [had] changed many times in the past, 5 and that it was possible to change it again. Every scene was cloaked in darkness and the plot had a looming sense of despair (TheBook). The war left America in dark times and FilmNoir was one of the ways from them to express it. Film Noir was extremely popular in America through the 1940 s to the 1950 s. Hundreds of American films were under the Film Noir classification. But what was Film Noir? The natural resources and, material culture stemming from that, made available to humans directly affect the ways in which we are able to organize and conduct our lives. The ways in which we organize the space around us is a clear indication of wealth, race, or ethnicity. The minorities are often kept in isolation from the wealthier areas of society (be that economic wealth or natural resource wealth) which directly affects the jobs the minorities are able to obtain and further inhibits a lessening of racism by preventing a mixed association of races and different groups of people. Background Real estate markets are closely related to macroeconomics, as was demonstrated by the global financial crisis of the late 2000s. The crisis originated in the real estate market when mortgage interest rates were low. The demand for real estate increased and banks offered risky subprime mortgages (Lopus, 2013). The financial crisis led to a debate across scholars on the macroeconomic factors that affected the development of the price bubble in real estate markets. On the one hand, irrational investors may determine the changes in real estate markets as suggested by Brunnermeier and Julliard (2008) and Case and Shiller (2003). On the other hand, Goodman and Thibodeau (2008) argued that fundamental macroeconomic factors determine the developments in real estate markets to the greatest extent. This research addresses this debate and explores the effects of macroeconomic environment on the real estate prices in the UK. The focus of the study is made on the determinants of regional real estate prices in the country.
