Tobacco use is still the leading preventable cause of death in the U.S., killing over 440,000 Americans each year. While smoking rates have declined, progress has stalled in recent years. Comprehensive tobacco control programs that increase tobacco taxes, implement smoke-free laws, fund anti-smoking media campaigns, and increase access to cessation services have been shown to effectively reduce smoking rates and the health burdens and economic costs of tobacco use. However, more remains to be done as the tobacco industry continues to outspend tobacco control efforts. Sustained funding and expansion of comprehensive tobacco control programs nationwide are needed to continue making progress toward creating a tobacco-free generation.

Obesity rates have been rising nationally, with over 40% of men and 30% of women overweight or obese by 2002. If current trends continue, there will be over 12 million obese adults and 1 million obese children by 2010. Obesity increases the risk of diseases like diabetes, heart disease, and some cancers. Childhood obesity is also rising, and is difficult to address as children depend on adults to guide healthy eating and exercise. Targets aim to reduce the annual rise in childhood obesity rates. Key actions needed include expanding family services, targeting at-risk groups, and establishing referral systems for healthcare professionals.

On February 14, 2020, Harvard Medical School Center for Bioethics and the Program on Regulation, Therapeutics, and Law (PORTAL) at Brigham and Women's Hospital, in collaboration with the Petrie-Flom Center hosted the monthly health policy consortium on sugar-sweetened beverage excise taxes.
In recent years, some cities have tried to impose soda taxes and other new policies to reduce the obesity epidemic in the US—particularly among children—and its critical impact on society and the health care system. How effective are these policies? What is blocking their uptake? What alternatives should we consider?

Overweight and obesity are leading causes of diabetes and non-communicable diseases in Kenya. To address this, approaches are needed to prevent obesity through policies influencing food environments, marketing of unhealthy foods, and promoting healthy diets and physical activity. Current challenges include weak multi-sectoral coordination and inadequate nutrition resources. Next steps involve strengthening multi-sectoral efforts through advocacy and leveraging other sectors to reduce obesity.

Childhood obesity, a very complex health issue that becomes a growing problem in the U.S. In fact, “over the past three decades, childhood obesity rates have tripled in the U.S., and today, the country has some of the highest obesity rates in the world: one out of six children is obese, and one out of three children is overweight or obese.” (Child obesity, n.d.). Physical diseases and conditions are often accompanying obesity. Also, obesity may have an adverse effect on various systems in a child’s body, such as heart, lungs, muscles and bones, kidneys, digestive tract, and hormones that control blood sugar and puberty. Furthermore, it can take a toll on social life because obese kids and teenagers are more likely to have low self-esteem. “Childhood obesity is one of the most serious threats to the health of our nation.” (Building evidence to prevent childhood obesity, n.d.). Children and youth who are obese and overweight will likely remain overweight or obese into adulthood.

Overall, the data shows that people in lower social classes in the UK are much more likely to suffer from poor health outcomes.
Inequalities - Health Care Provision
There are significant inequalities in health outcomes and healthcare spending across different regions of the UK. Mortality rates are highest in Scotland, yet Scotland receives the highest funding per capita for healthcare. However, more funding does not necessarily correlate with better health outcomes, as areas within countries also show inequalities. Factors like deprivation, rurality, and access to services may better explain the health differences between regions.
Inequalities in health - social class
1) Numerous studies over many years have found a link between socioeconomic status and health inequalities in the UK, with those in lower social classes experiencing worse health outcomes.
2) The Black Report of 1980 and subsequent reports like the Acheson Report of 1998 found that factors like low income, unemployment, poor housing and education were key causes of health inequalities and that the gap between social classes was widening.
3) These reports recommended policies to reduce poverty and increase spending on health education to prevent illness, but UK governments were often critical of the findings and reluctant to implement the recommendations.
Inequalities in health - lifestyle
Lifestyle factors such as diet, obesity, smoking, and lack of exercise have a significant effect on health. Poor diet and lack of exercise are the main causes of rising obesity levels in the UK, where over half of adults are overweight. Obesity rates are higher among lower social classes and have increased health costs. Improving diet and increasing exercise levels are important for addressing health inequalities.
Inequalities in health care
The report studied health inequalities across the UK and found a widening gap between northern and southern areas. The six worst health areas were located in Glasgow, Scotland. People living in poorer areas had higher rates of poverty, infant mortality, and preventable death. The report concluded that reducing health inequalities required government action to tackle the underlying causes of poverty.

Cell Therapy Expansion and Challenges in Autoimmune Disease
There is increasing confidence that cell therapies will soon play a role in the treatment of autoimmune disorders, but the extent of this impact remains to be seen. Early readouts on autologous CAR-Ts in lupus are encouraging, but manufacturing and cost limitations are likely to restrict access to highly refractory patients. Allogeneic CAR-Ts have the potential to broaden access to earlier lines of treatment due to their inherent cost benefits, however they will need to demonstrate comparable or improved efficacy to established modalities.
In addition to infrastructure and capacity constraints, CAR-Ts face a very different risk-benefit dynamic in autoimmune compared to oncology, highlighting the need for tolerable therapies with low adverse event risk. CAR-NK and Treg-based therapies are also being developed in certain autoimmune disorders and may demonstrate favorable safety profiles. Several novel non-cell therapies such as bispecific antibodies, nanobodies, and RNAi drugs, may also offer future alternative competitive solutions with variable value propositions.
Widespread adoption of cell therapies will not only require strong efficacy and safety data, but also adapted pricing and access strategies. At oncology-based price points, CAR-Ts are unlikely to achieve broad market access in autoimmune disorders, with eligible patient populations that are potentially orders of magnitude greater than the number of currently addressable cancer patients. Developers have made strides towards reducing cell therapy COGS while improving manufacturing efficiency, but payors will inevitably restrict access until more sustainable pricing is achieved.
Despite these headwinds, industry leaders and investors remain confident that cell therapies are poised to address significant unmet need in patients suffering from autoimmune disorders. However, the extent of this impact on the treatment landscape remains to be seen, as the industry rapidly approaches an inflection point.

Gastrointestinal Infections
GASTROINTESTINAL INFECTIONS result from the ingestion of pathogens that cause infections at the level of this tract, generally being transmitted by food, water and hands contaminated by microorganisms such as E. coli, Salmonella, Shigella, Vibrio cholerae, Campylobacter, Staphylococcus, Rotavirus among others that are generally contained in feces, thus configuring a FECAL-ORAL type of transmission.
Among the factors that lead to the occurrence of gastrointestinal infections are the hygienic and sanitary deficiencies that characterize our markets and other places where raw or cooked food is sold, poor environmental sanitation in communities, deficiencies in water treatment (or in the process of its plumbing), risky hygienic-sanitary habits (not washing hands after major and/or minor needs), among others.
These are generally consequences (signs and symptoms) resulting from gastrointestinal infections: diarrhea, vomiting, fever and malaise, among others.
The treatment consists of replacing lost liquids and electrolytes (drinking drinking water and other recommended liquids, including consumption of juicy fruits such as papayas, apples, pears, among others that contain water in their composition).
To prevent this, it is necessary to promote health education, improve the hygienic-sanitary conditions of markets and communities in general as a way of promoting, preserving and prolonging PUBLIC HEALTH.
Gastritis and Gastric Health
Gastric Health is one of the most relevant concerns in human health, with gastrointestinal infections being among the main illnesses that affect humans.
Among gastric problems, we have GASTRITIS AND GASTRIC ULCERS as the main public health problems. Gastritis and gastric ulcers normally result from inflammation and corrosion of the walls of the stomach (gastric mucosa) and are generally associated (caused) by the bacterium Helicobacter pylor, which, according to the literature, this bacterium settles on these walls (of the stomach) and starts to release urease that ends up altering the normal pH of the stomach (acid), which leads to inflammation and corrosion of the mucous membranes and consequent gastritis or ulcers, respectively.
In addition to bacterial infections, gastritis and gastric ulcers are associated with several factors, with emphasis on prolonged fasting, chemical substances including drugs, alcohol, foods with strong seasonings including chilli, which ends up causing inflammation of the stomach walls and/or corrosion. of the same, resulting in the appearance of wounds and consequent gastritis or ulcers, respectively.
Among patients with gastritis and/or ulcers, one of the dilemmas is associated with the foods to consume in order to minimize the sensation of pain and discomfort. Recently uploaded (20)
