Descriptive Essay For Christmas
December is much less a month and more so an extended holiday, for the entire month is time to
prepare for Christmas. Everything in the stores, on the TV, on the radio, and in everyone s houses
revolves around the holiday. Christmas is a time to celebrate with music, festivities, and food, or
should I say Christmas desserts. I love the sugary sweets that make my mouth water all year round
until finally the month comes to bake and eat the variety of treats. Oreo balls, peanut butter balls,
chocolate covered pretzels, fudge, caramels, and all the other creative ways to combine the most
unhealthy ingredients complete the holiday season, yet my favorite dessert is a classic Christmas sugar
cookie, a soft star shaped cookie layered with sweet yellow frosting and dipped in a chilled glass of
milk.
The second weekend in December is always cookie making weekend at Grandma s. Traditionally, we
grandkids spend the night on Saturday to help her bake the sugar cookies; however, she has already
made two batches during the day, so we help her with the third batch. First, we gather all the
ingredients; two cups of butter, two cups of sugar, four eggs, two tablespoons of milk, six cups of
flour, and six teaspoons of baking powder. Grandma takes out her largest glass bowl, and we beat the
butter until it is creamy, for about one minute. Slowly, we add the sugar and mix it until the
ingredients blend into a light and fluffy mixture, making my mouth water due to the sweet smell.

The Historical Values Of Ubuntu
The argument here that exists is that Ubuntu has no historic significance or cultural value. Its source
and origin cannot be identified as it is still believed to be a discourse that was just invented for the
sake of it. This is why many critics have gone to great lengths to comment that this terminology is
empty and does not have any concrete relevance or even origination and should be discarded instead
of being commercialized or made popular. The societies that practiced Ubuntu cannot be found either
which further weaken the position of this term and its emergence as a value.
However, I believe that Ubuntu should not be discarded only because it has no historic value or origin
because even without these fundamental aspects the term and concept has emerged as a universal
African humanist value. When Africans could not oppose the colonialism, they clung to Ubuntu as a
critique and this ideology has been with them in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can be seen by the fact that humanism believes staunchly in predestination and that the fate of a
person is sealed which cannot be changed in the course of a lifetime. Whereas, the Muslim phase of
humanism provides a more logical approach which suggests that the concept of predestination does
exist but it can be changed through efforts. This approach is not only more logical but also more
rational in terms of its existence. It has been said by the Muslim phase of humanism that men are
distinct creatures, separate from the rest of Creation, due to the fact that God gave them an effective
power (Qudra), once and for all time, by which they can choose to act freely . This shows that the
concept of humanism is flawed and man has power over their actions because of which their fate
could possibly not be predetermined. Their destination lies in the path that they choose after rational

An Evaluation Of An Aspect Of Organizational Imprinting
Research
The first section of this paper explores five studies; each study considers an aspect of organizational
imprinting; a brief description of each study as well as an evaluation of the study is provided. The next
section of this paper provides a literature review, based on the five studies reviewed, concerning what
is known and not know about organizational imprinting. The final section of this paper provides a
potential consideration for research.

economies, (b) study theory based predictors for change in IPO firms, and (c) employ fuzzy set
analysis to examine interdependence between multi level predictors (Judge et al., 2015). Judge et al.
(2015) invited IPO firms from 18 countries to participate; the study considered 35 IPO firms in 15
economies; data was collected to study the causal conditions.
The data collected was analyzed using fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) as an
instrument to assess the causal relationship between the conditions prior to the IPO and the degree of
success of the firm after the IPO; Judge et al. (2015) contended this approach was also appropriate for
the sample size. The dependent variable for this study was organizational capacity for change (OCC);
the independent variables employed were (a) industry stage of development, (b) national uncertainty
avoidance, (c) founder CEO presence, (d) organizational financial slack, and (e) top management team
(TMT) trust (Judge et al., 2015). As a method to minimize threat to validity, fsQCA requires variables
that are not binary dummies to be calibrated by converting raw data to membership scores (Judge et

Mackenzie King Influence On Canada
Canada has had many prime ministers that have contributed and held back Canada in shaping Canada
s identity over the past century however nobody has came close to helping as Mackenzie king who
protected Canada during world war 2, brought Canada through the great depression with
industrialization, and he helped create national unity and independence. Canada would not be the
same country it is today without the fine leading of mackenzie king. During world war 2 mackenzie
king showed that Canada is a force to be reckoned with and not just an colony under britain s control.
Mackenzie king s close friendship with British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and U.S. President
F. D. Roosevelt was a huge cornerstone of the allied effort. Mackenzie king mobilized the canadian air
forces and built the royal canadian air force .Mackenzie king implemented conscription in this war

The Relationship Between Democracy And Civility
Author Ken Burns (2011) describes the relationship between democracy and civility when he said, But
civility is essential to our ability as a nation to confront together difficult issues, even when we may
disagree, and to continue to improve as a country (National Constitution Center, 2011). Democracy
and civility go hand in hand; without democracy, there wouldn t be civility and without civility there
wouldn t be democracy. In a democracy, the model of dissent should be deliberation, yet the long and
careful debate we once had has shifted towards violent measures to fulfill one s own needs. The model
of dissent has transformed from deliberation to violence due impart, to the technological

Albert Bandura, a renowned psychologist, studied how some behaviors are learned through imitation.
He calls this the social learning theory. It is exemplified in his classic experiment called the Bobo Doll
Experiment. The children participating in the experiment were individually shown into a room with
toys and then played with them for 10 minutes while either, 1) 24 children (12 girls and 12 boys)
watched a male or female model behaving aggressively toward a toy called a Bobo Doll . The adults
attacked the Bobo doll in a distinctive manner, either punching or kicking and in some cases using a
hammer. 2) Another 24 children were exposed to a non aggressive model who played in a quiet and
subdued manner for 10 minutes. 3) The final 24 children were used as a control group and were not
exposed to any model at all (McLeod, 2011). In order to study whether these three situations had a
different effect on the children, the experimenter subjected all the children to mild aggression arousal
(McLeod, 2011) by taking each child separately to a room with toys. Once the child began to play
with the toys, the experimenter told the child that these were the experimenter s best toys and she had
decided to reserve them for the other children (McLeod, 2011). The experimenter then brought the
child into the next room, which had some aggressive toys, such as a toy hammer, and some non
aggressive toys. For twenty minutes the child s

Jewish Traditions
Some Jewish holidays are solemn occasions while others are festive, but they are all rich in history
and tradition.
My family celebrates many fascinating Jewish traditions that I look forward to throughout the year.
Chanukah is a holiday that I enjoy celebrating every year because my family and I follow the customs
of my ancestors.
Another holiday, Passover, is celebrated to remember the historic moments that happened in Egypt a
long time ago.
The High Holidays, Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, are the most religious holidays in Judaism.
Chanukah, Passover, and the High Holidays are all cherished holidays, but my families Chanukah

At the sedar, it is a tradition to tell the story of Passover and to eat a delectable, mouth watering
dinner.
In the center of the table, my mother places a beautiful sedar plate that has been handed down for
generations. The sedar plate holds the symbols that help to tell the story of Passover. One of the
symbols is the bitter herb to remind us of the bitterness of slavery.
While Passover is a holiday full of rituals, the Jewish High Holidays are the most sacred.
The High Holidays (Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur) are the holiest and most significant times of the
year.
Rosh Hashanah marks the beginning of the Jewish New Year. On Rosh Hashanah, my family dips
apples in honey to remind us of the sweetness of the New Year. The apples taste as sweet as sugar.
Yom Kippur is the most revered Jewish holiday. Our family follows the religious tradition of fasting
on Yom Kippur. I refrain from eating or drinking to show God that I am sorry for any sins that I may
have committed over the last year.
During both Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, we go to the synagogue and listen to the blowing of the
Shofar, a ram s horn. This rich tradition honors our ancestors who used the Shofar to call everyone to

disease. The fiber containing groups that fell short of the recommended intake were fruits and
vegetables. The amount of fruits I took in was lower than the vegetable intake. The specific foods that
provided the most fiber in my meals were the vegetables and the oatmeal.
Dietary Modifications The changes that I would make to increase the fiber in my diet, would be to
include more fruits and vegetables in my daily intake. The daily recommended intake of fiber was 21

White Supremacy In African Americans
Race refers to a group of persons who are different from other groups due to their alleged genetic and
physical traits. On one hand, racism is the preconception that members of a certain race are prime than
individuals of other races. In America, white supremacy is the belief that whites are superior to others.
White supremacy took different forms, such as colonialism, slavery, and apartheid and has led to
institutional racism. Members of minority races, particularly African Americans, have experienced
institutional racism in both political and social institutions in many forms including discrimination in
health care, employment, incarceration rates, housing, education, and politics. On the other hand,

1944, provided numerous benefits to World War II veterans. This bill aimed to assist returning
veterans by offering them benefits, such as financial aid to pursue education, low cost mortgages, and
low interest loans so that they could conform to civilian life. However, many African American
veterans did not profit from this bill like their White Americans counterparts. Although the bill did not
explicitly advocate racial discrimination, it was interpreted differently for both races and it somehow
simulated the Jim Crow laws. For example, mortgage agencies and banks refused to lend loans to
African American veterans after they returned from war, making them face poverty (page 308). The
war on drugs has been viewed as a discriminatory process because it has led to the captivity of more
Africans Americans than slavery. American prisons house more African Americans due to
discriminatory mandatory sentencing and misguided drug laws since the drug war began in the 1970s

The Church Of England In The Canterbury Tales
During the time period that The Canterbury Tales was written, England went under massive changes
of all kind, specifically religious, political, and medically. The changes of this time inspired many of
the stories and characters as most of them formed their lives around these changes. During this era of
England, the Church of England gained immense amounts of influence, enough to have control over
the King himself. The characters named the Pardoner and the Summoner were both from the church,
or so they pretend. Their stature with the church gave them respect among the other members of the
group heading to Canterbury. The character, the Doctor, took advantage of the sick by telling them that
they need a special medicine that only his friend sells. The plan was that the Doctor would send
people to his friend for a special deal and the Doctor would get a cut of the profit from his friend. As
the church rose to power, they officially had their own military power in forms of knights and squires.
Their influence stretched far and wide, only becoming even larger by the holy wars being fought
throughout Europe. The church turned their knights into crusaders and ordered them to go to places
such as Alexandria, Benamarin, Flanders, and other places around Europe. It was revealed that the
Knight and the Squire were indirectly mentioned as being part of the crusades. It was revealed by how
they were mentioned to have been in those cities at the same time of the crusades.

Benvenuto Cellini
Benvenuto Cellini was born on November 3rd in the year 1500 in Florence, Italy. His father was
Giovanni Cellini and his mother was Marisa Lisabetta Granacci. The time period Cellini was born is
considered to be the beginning of the Cinquecento period of the arts in Italy. By the end of Cellini s
life he was successful in many aspects of cinquecento arts. This paper gives highlights on Cellini s life
as a whole including descriptive examples of his various art works.(Cellini 128) The cinquecento
period in which Cellini was born references the 16th century as a period of Italian art, architecture, or
literature, with a reversion to classical forms. This is significant because it gives you greater
understanding of some of the cultural influences Cellini would have been subjected to in Italy as he
grew up.(O Brien) Its possible that this influence helped to lead him to be one of the prominent
mannerist artist. Another culturally significant factor of the time is that Cellini lived his life in the era
of Italy being ruled by kings as the Roman Empire had dissipated and been split into the Eastern and
Western Empires. The Western Empire fell in 476 when the barbarian chieftain Odoacer deposed
Romulus Augustus and didn t take the title of emperor.(O Brien) Cellini s father was a musician and

position of head of state in Uganda in the mid late twentieth century, is recognized as one world s
most notorious leaders and is believed to be responsible for the deaths of one hundred thousand five

Indian culture by demanding all individuals of the nationality to leave the continent of Africa.
Mississippi Masala, released in 1991 and directed by Mira Nair, tells the story of an Indian family that
fleeted Africa to the United States during the reign of Amin. While the plot concentrates on the
morals, beliefs, and portrayals of the Indian culture during that particular time frame, it does so

Africa to the United States, and Demetrius, an African American carpet cleaner who was born and

Identity In The Lone Ranger And Tonto Fist
The texts Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, William Shakespeare s Julius Caesar, as well as Sherman
Alexie s The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven all ask us to consider the relationship
between rhetoric and identity. When thinking about identity it depends on the person. I would define
identity as the key characteristics about each of us that we define ourselves by. How we want to be
seen by others, and how we think others see us. What parts of ourselves we choose to keep private and
what parts we choose to let people see. What we believe morally and dream wise. Our existence and

Most of the indians have drinking and drug problems which these problems are basic personal
problems that they have. In the stories the characters will often be in one place out of the ordinary,
after that they will be transported back in time to one distinct memory. This sort of thing works in
these stories because, it reminds me of how our minds work. It makes me think about how people are
not always there. In class sometimes I stare off into space as most people probably do because they are
thinking about things. Our dreams and memories drift in and out of our minds throughout the day, and
I believe this is what Alexie is trying to demonstrate with the characters in the various stories because
it makes them seem more real and it makes the stories seem like they are coming to life. If Alexie did
not reply on this rhetoric strategy the characters would collapse and be dull, but the characters is what
gives the story life. In the stories the characters go through several dilemmas such as in the first

fire ground operations is necessary to achieve and maintain accountability. Accountability through
incident command is possible only if it is established from the very beginning of the incident with the
arrival of the first unit, officer, or member who establishes command and begins to assign and track
incoming resources. Resources that self deploy on the fire ground without the establishment and
direction of an overall IC are not operating within incident command, a single incident action plan
(IAP), or an accountability system. Any organization that waits for a later arriving officer to show up,
establish command, and then attempt to locate and track multiple self deployed resources from scratch
is setting that officer and the organization up for failure and, ultimately, a tragic disaster.

Analysis Of The Book Black Mirror
Black Mirror is a Netflix original British science fiction television series that is macabre and uses
science to show that it can be used to have control over people and their lives in the future. This show
wonderfully incorporates race, gender, and sexuality as well as other topics such as ableism and
classism. In this paper, four distinct episodes in the show that represented these themes were explored.
We chose to focus on the episodes Men Against Fire, Fifteen Million Merits, San Junipero, and White
Bear from the show Black Mirror.
Men Against Fire , season 3 episode 5, is set in a dystopian future, where our main protagonist, Stripe,
works for a military corporation that hunts and exterminates mutant beings called Roaches ... Show

She is immediately degraded, and asked to show her boobs. Fisher says in her book Gender and the
Science of Difference. She says: Women continued to be perceived as inferior to men, but no longer
because they were seen as imperfect males; rather, the multiple biological differences that were
identified cast them as weaker, more vulnerable, and so on (Fisher). This is how women are seen and
treated in this episode: as inferior and only useful as sexual objects. Lastly, Fifteen Million Merits
looks at able bodyism through the existence of the lemons, or the lower class. These people are only
part of the lower class because they are heavy, and are thus unable to keep up with the all day bike
exercises. The lemons are subjected to humiliation on tv shows, are shot in video games, and are
badmouthed by those on the bikes, all because they are heavier than everyone else. Using an
encapturing story, Fifteen Million Merits discussing important current issues through the lens of a
dystopic society.
San Junipero is season 3 episode 4 of the Black Mirror series and it is the place where the dead can
reside forever and the living can visit every Saturday night for a few hours. The two main characters
of this episode (Yorkie Kelly) met at a bar in San Junipero and eventually became a homosexual
interracial couple. The article on Fabulous: Sylvester James, Black Queer Afrofuturism and the Black

Clifton Suspension Bridge Essay examples
Clifton Suspension Bridge
The Clifton Suspension Bridge is located in Bristol England, and spans the beautiful Avon gorge. This
bridge has become the symbol of Bristol much like the Eiffel tower has of Paris, and the Opera house
has of Sydney. The story of the Clifton Suspension Bridge began in 1754 with the dream of a Bristol
wine merchant who donated his life savings to build a bridge over the gorge. To decide on a suitable
design for the bridge a competition was held. Thomas Telford, the leading civil architect of the time
was the judge. Mr. Telford attempted to submit his own design; however the decision to declare
himself the winner was overruled and a second competition was held. This time, contrary to the
recommendation of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also the original design was narrower than the final structure; the increased width has an interesting
story. Apparently a local land owner wished to drive his carriage to Bristol without having to walk or
negotiate the steep roads on the sides of the gorge, so he convinced the engineers, and paid for the
necessary modifications to widen the design of the bridge. It is fortunate that he insisted on this
widening because the bridge as it was originally designed would have never been able to cater to
modern traffic demands. The bridge was finished in 1859 and opened to the public in 1864.
Before the bridge was built the slip way was the only way to cross the river without taking a long
detour. The slip way was crossed at high tide by rowing a boat across, and at low tide by crossing on
series gangplanks that were tied together. Both crossings were fairly dangerous and extremely
inconvenient and therefore a bridge was a very popular idea.
The Clifton Suspension bridge is world famous and one of the essential things to see in the West
Country. It is a beautiful piece of engineering that is lovely maintained by the bridge staff. The two
towers of the bridge span from Clifton to summerset, the Clifton tower is build on a solid rock surface
that acts as a foundation, however the summerset tower needed a massive brick buttress before work
on the tower could begin. The towers though similar are not identical. The towers are similar in size,

Analysis Of Spanking Isn T Child Abuse, It s Common Sense
Bringing Up A New Generation
Spanking Isn t Child Abuse, It s Common Sense, by Ruban Navarrette deals with one of the biggest

He made a good point on how in today s society parents are resulting in becoming their child s BFF
(best friend forever) rather than a parent. He says parents are losing control. He states, In some cases
parents already stressed from long days at work and having no desire to spend precious time
squabbling with children. and most importantly, They gave up on raising children in exchange for
peace and quiet on the home front. This rings true in some cases but spanking and using physical
punishment isn t the way to get your kids to stop arguing or resisting. I take this experience first hand.
I believe that the reason children these days are fighting their parents is because it is a different world,
society is changing. In today s world you give respect to get respect. Many kids, like myself, won t
listen to the parent that says no just because but when they have an actual, understandable reason why,
then I understand and I listen. In today s world a child wants to be treated like a person, we want to be
able to make our own mistakes, learn our own lessons, and control our own lives. Maybe we feel as if
as we get older that we know what is better for ourselves than our parents do. We are the independent

Dwarf Planet Ceres Research Paper
Ceres Exploration This space based planetary exploration mission targets the dwarf planet Ceres,
which is the mission subject, or more specifically, the surface of the dwarf planet is the subject. The
surface of Ceres is covered in countless small, young craters (Davis, n.d.). Within some of Ceres
craters, there are regions that are always in shadow. It s possible that without direct sunlight, these
cold traps could have water ice in them for long periods of time (Davis, n.d.). The sign of water on the
dwarf planet could mean big for the scientists in earth. It suggests a possible sign of life on the dwarf
planet. The mission s objectives are to study the surface of Ceres to find water or signs of water and, if
water is found, study the possibility of life on the dwarf planet. A rover will be the payload of the
mission, trying to carry out the mission s objectives. The mission duration will be an unlimited
amount of time or until total and permanent communication loss happens with the rover. This mission
will ultimately benefit NASA and humankind. These can also be called the mission users. ... Show

find life, so why not use the same equipment to find life on another planet. Finding life on other

Pros And Cons Of The Snail Darter
Did you know that many big rivers and lakes have dams to control the water flow? I grew up in a
place that did not have many big bodies of water which made it hard to really appreciate what dams do
to help the environment. However, the Tellico Dam is a controversial issue. The Tellico Dam was a
planned to be built by the Tennessee Valley Authority, but got delayed once they discovered a
endangered species. Where the government was allowing the Tennesseans to build the dam, in Lenoir
City, Tennessee, there was a small population of a rare species of fish, the Snail Darter. The Snail
Darter is a very small species of fish found in Eastern Tennessee freshwater. A little bit larger than the
average paperclip, this animal is part of the perch family and primarily feeds on aquatic snails. The
females can lay about 600 eggs a year. Found in shallow water, the darters, in captivity, only live up to
about four years and even less in the wild. Completing the dam would likely wipe out the Snail
Darters in that area, and the Darter could become an extinct species. I believe that we should keep the
Endangered Species Act strong to protect animal and plant species such as the Darter. My reasons for
this are that the act protects our native species, animal/plant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The Endangered Species Act was created to help save the endangered and threatened species and help
their ecosystems. Basically, its purpose is to slow down the extinction rate. Created on December 28,
1973 by Congress, this act protects about 2270 species of animals and plants and helps many
ecosystems. This act was signed by the president of the time, Richard Nixon. A species being
endangered means that the species is likely to go extinct without help. A species being threatened
means that the species could soon become and endangered species without help. The Endangered
Species Act is important because it protects the animals we have

A Psychoanalysis on Ridley Scott’s Alien”
A Psychoanalysis on Ridley Scott s Alien
In 1923 Sigmund Freud noticed the clash within thought and mental processes which led him to
identify three parts of our psyche. He referred to these as the Id, Ego and the Superego. The Id is the
primitive, unconscious basis of the psyche, dominated by primary urges *. It comes from the initial
instinct to satisfy our needs and desires what can be known as the pleasure principle. The
uncontrollable repressed part of our psyche, for example a newborn child is primarily id controlled.
However external contact with the outside world shapes and develops the psyche. At this point the ego
develops.

Ripley refuses, she is second in command and Captain Dallas is one of the infected . She takes control
of the situation and clearly uses her intuition to realize that there is danger in allowing the crew back
in to the vessel. She is using the rules that have being set by society. She uses the rules to justify her
decision, an example: Wait a minute. If we let it in, the ship could be infected. You know the
quarantine procedure. Twenty four hours for decontamination . This shows that she runs by the very
rules that we later find out are putting her life at risk. The Superego is in the form of the spaceship,
which ironically is called Mother which fits in to the idea of introjected parental authority and the
Superego having a parental voice. An example is when Ripley is trying to blow the ship up and
Mother won t put on the cooling unit. Ripley s cries in a child like voice Mother turn on the cooling

Are Coaches Ruining A Kid s Love For Sports
Bad coaching, Ruining a kid s love for a sport Are coaches killing childrens love for sports? Coaches
play a large role in how a kid views and plays a sport. It all depends in what type of coach they are,
they could be a good and positive coach for the child or they could be a bad coach which is a huge
negative towards the children. For example, a good coach would keep his/her voice low after a
mistake made by a player and tell him/her what they did wrong. A bad coach on the other hand would
stand up and yell at the kids singling him/her out and telling that player they suck. Kids could quit a
sport they ve loved forever because of how their coaches handle them and the game. Coaching
happens all over the world and for all sports and at any age. With coaching being everywhere there
will be bad coaches. One instance was when coach Raul Aragon got frustrated with an umpire at a
baseball game and was thrown out. He than chased the umpire around until police arrived, he was
coach of an 8 year old baseball team. Another experience with a bad coach is when Kevin Pope, an
assistant football coach, was pointing a bb gun at a player for having bad grades. (Mark McCarter,

The biggest difference between good coaches and bad coaches is how they influence and handle a
their players. A good coach can push a kids out of their comfort zone to make him/her play better.
Good coaches also make the players a better person in society and help them gain confidence. A good
coach is a fair coach who sees all of his athletes as equals even when some athletes are superior to
others. A bad coach does the opposite of what good coaches. They have a negative effect on the
children they coach. Bad coaches can make practice a hostile environment pushing the kids to their
mental and physical limit. Bad coaches also cut down their players confidence rather than build it

Essay on Red Hot Chili Peppers
Red Hot Chili Peppers
A passion for foods from the American Southwest is sweeping through the country. The main
component and most popular item of this fad is the chili pepper, an item of tremendous variability and
a staple of many people in Central America. In this country, chili peppers were once only found in
specialized ethnic stores, but now it is just as likely to be found at the neighborhood Kroger. For most
people, however, their knowledge stops here. Through this paper I hope to educate the reader on some
other aspects of this intriguing vegetable, such as its history, chemistry, and uses.
There is some confusion over what a chili pepper is. To many it is only the hot varieties of pepper,
such as the jalapeno or the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dr. Chanca described chili peppers as the native s principle food and compared them to the turnip
(Andrews 1984).
The seeds of the chili pepper were brought back to Spain, where it was grown in monastery gardens.
Portuguese traders then spread the chili peppers to many far flung locations, such as India, Indonesia,
and Persia (Andrews 1984).
Chile peppers became popular due to their great variability in size, shape, and color. Unfortunately,
this long proved to be a problem for the taxonomists, who frequently had trouble telling the difference
between a different variety and a different species. It wasn t until the 1950 s that it was decided that
there were five main species of chili peppers, and twenty wild ones (Proulx 1985). The five main
species are: Capsicum annum, Capsicum frutescens, Capsicum chinense, Capsicum baccatum, and
Capsicum pubescens. However, it is considered impossible to develop a system of classification that
would cover all of the chili peppers, due to the great variation among the members of the same
species, especially in places such as Mexico (Smith, Villalon, and Villa 1987).
Man s interest in chili peppers has resulted in new varieties, such as the TAM Jalapeno, Hidalgo
Serrano, and Numex Big Jim, which have a milder flavor or are more resistant to disease. In order to
make chili peppers more palatable to the public, chili pepper breeders are breeding varieties that are

US and Russia relations after the defeat of the USSR:
The end of Cold War brought new challenges to Russian life, economy and politics. Actually, the post
Cold War period opened the new opportunities for
Russia. Democracy made its first steps in the country. After seventy years of communism Russian
people finally got a chance to live how the want, to say what they want and to do what they want.
People got a chance to choose their own leader, to vote for the Congress members. And it was very
confusing for the country. Russia needed somebody to come out and help in this critical situation.
Probably, the first country to do that was the United States. Russians

Each year Americans were increasing the sales of their own products on the Russian market. As I said
earlier, Russia devoted itself to the new type of the economy; with private sector businesses. But what
they could do with all those weapons produced during the Soviet era? And the way out was found.
Russia became the biggest exporter of military ammunition on the world market. The exports of oil
also put Russia on the leading positions in the world. Everything was going just fine. quot;Russia was
moving from pure stabilization to the resumption of economic
Shkolnikov 3 growth quot; (Pickering 103).
The only one thing that was bothering both countries, especially Russia, was the growth of Russian
mafia. In the middle 90 s the level of corruption in the Russian government was very high. Mafia
controlled everything; starting from stores, which pay some percent of their income every month, and
ending with police, which was completely under control of the mafia. The power of mafia really
bothered American businessmen, who didn t want to pay them and didn t want to get shot by mafia.
And since they refused to pay, the number of American businessmen shot in Russia was growing. But
this doesn t really stops Americans from doing business in Russia.
The other problem that Americans were concerned about is nuclear potential of Russia. During the
leadership of the communism the USSR produced huge number of nuclear

Theories Of Communicative Competence In Language Teaching
1.1 Preliminaries
Communicative language teaching (CLT) which was mainly developed from social science and
humanities beyond language teaching concerns, has been followed for nearly three decades. Hymes
from the linguistic anthropology (1971) and Habermas (1984) from social philosophy point of view,
proposed different notions of communicative competence in CLT to be used in language teaching and
assessment. Communicative competence, as Richards (1985) claimed, includes knowledge of the
grammar, vocabulary of the language, rules of speaking, knowing how to use and respond to different
types of speech acts and knowing how to use language appropriately. It is believed that the goal of
second language teaching should be communicative competence, and it should include the ability to
use language appropriately in social contexts in order to perform communicative functions and the
ability to combine utterances and communicative functions according to the principles of discourse
(Loveday, 1982; Canale Swain, 1980). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Hymes in 1960s, to function successfully in society, an individual must be able to use
appropriate language in a given situation and understand the social language hints of others, and also
an individual must have the ability to combine one s own social knowledge with contextual
information to understand the intended meaning of someone s utterance which is known as
pragmatics. Pragmalinguistics that is part of pragmatics, applies to more linguistics features of
pragmatics; in other words, it mostly focuses on the way which linguistic forms of a language are used
to obtain certain pragmatic purposes (Thomas,

  • 2. Descriptive Essay For Christmas December is much less a month and more so an extended holiday, for the entire month is time to prepare for Christmas. Everything in the stores, on the TV, on the radio, and in everyone s houses revolves around the holiday. Christmas is a time to celebrate with music, festivities, and food, or should I say Christmas desserts. I love the sugary sweets that make my mouth water all year round until finally the month comes to bake and eat the variety of treats. Oreo balls, peanut butter balls, chocolate covered pretzels, fudge, caramels, and all the other creative ways to combine the most unhealthy ingredients complete the holiday season, yet my favorite dessert is a classic Christmas sugar cookie, a soft star shaped cookie layered with sweet yellow frosting and dipped in a chilled glass of milk. The second weekend in December is always cookie making weekend at Grandma s. Traditionally, we grandkids spend the night on Saturday to help her bake the sugar cookies; however, she has already made two batches during the day, so we help her with the third batch. First, we gather all the ingredients; two cups of butter, two cups of sugar, four eggs, two tablespoons of milk, six cups of flour, and six teaspoons of baking powder. Grandma takes out her largest glass bowl, and we beat the butter until it is creamy, for about one minute. Slowly, we add the sugar and mix it until the ingredients blend into a light and fluffy mixture, making my mouth water due to the sweet smell. While my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Historical Values Of Ubuntu The argument here that exists is that Ubuntu has no historic significance or cultural value. Its source and origin cannot be identified as it is still believed to be a discourse that was just invented for the sake of it. This is why many critics have gone to great lengths to comment that this terminology is empty and does not have any concrete relevance or even origination and should be discarded instead of being commercialized or made popular. The societies that practiced Ubuntu cannot be found either which further weaken the position of this term and its emergence as a value. However, I believe that Ubuntu should not be discarded only because it has no historic value or origin because even without these fundamental aspects the term and concept has emerged as a universal African humanist value. When Africans could not oppose the colonialism, they clung to Ubuntu as a critique and this ideology has been with them in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This can be seen by the fact that humanism believes staunchly in predestination and that the fate of a person is sealed which cannot be changed in the course of a lifetime. Whereas, the Muslim phase of humanism provides a more logical approach which suggests that the concept of predestination does exist but it can be changed through efforts. This approach is not only more logical but also more rational in terms of its existence. It has been said by the Muslim phase of humanism that men are distinct creatures, separate from the rest of Creation, due to the fact that God gave them an effective power (Qudra), once and for all time, by which they can choose to act freely . This shows that the concept of humanism is flawed and man has power over their actions because of which their fate could possibly not be predetermined. Their destination lies in the path that they choose after rational or irrational ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Judge et al. (2015) invited IPO firms from 18 countries to participate; the study considered 35 IPO firms in 15 economies; data was collected to study the causal conditions. The data collected was analyzed using fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) as an instrument to assess the causal relationship between the conditions prior to the IPO and the degree of success of the firm after the IPO; Judge et al. (2015) contended this approach was also appropriate for the sample size. The dependent variable for this study was organizational capacity for change (OCC); the independent variables employed were (a) industry stage of development, (b) national uncertainty avoidance, (c) founder CEO presence, (d) organizational financial slack, and (e) top management team (TMT) trust (Judge et al., 2015). As a method to minimize threat to validity, fsQCA requires variables that are not binary dummies to be calibrated by converting raw data to membership scores (Judge et al., 2015). Democracy and civility go hand in hand; without democracy, there wouldn t be civility and without civility there wouldn t be democracy. Albert Bandura, a renowned psychologist, studied how some behaviors are learned through imitation. He calls this the social learning theory. The adults attacked the Bobo doll in a distinctive manner, either punching or kicking and in some cases using a hammer. 2) Another 24 children were exposed to a non aggressive model who played in a quiet and subdued manner for 10 minutes. 3) The final 24 children were used as a control group and were not exposed to any model at all (McLeod, 2011). In order to study whether these three situations had a different effect on the children, the experimenter subjected all the children to mild aggression arousal (McLeod, 2011) by taking each child separately to a room with toys. Once the child began to play with the toys, the experimenter told the child that these were the experimenter s best toys and she had decided to reserve them for the other children (McLeod, 2011). One of the symbols is the bitter herb to remind us of the bitterness of slavery. While Passover is a holiday full of rituals, the Jewish High Holidays are the most sacred. The High Holidays (Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur) are the holiest and most significant times of the year. Rosh Hashanah marks the beginning of the Jewish New Year. The characters named the Pardoner and the Summoner were both from the church, or so they pretend. The character, the Doctor, took advantage of the sick by telling them that they need a special medicine that only his friend sells. The plan was that the Doctor would send people to his friend for a special deal and the Doctor would get a cut of the profit from his friend. As the church rose to power, they officially had their own military power in forms of knights and squires. Their influence stretched far and wide, only becoming even larger by the holy wars being fought throughout Europe. The church turned their knights into crusaders and ordered them to go to places such as Alexandria, Benamarin, Flanders, and other places around Europe. His father was Giovanni Cellini and his mother was Marisa Lisabetta Granacci. The time period Cellini was born is considered to be the beginning of the Cinquecento period of the arts in Italy. By the end of Cellini s life he was successful in many aspects of cinquecento arts. This paper gives highlights on Cellini s life as a whole including descriptive examples of his various art works.(Cellini 128) The cinquecento period in which Cellini was born references the 16th century as a period of Italian art, architecture, or literature, with a reversion to classical forms. This is significant because it gives you greater understanding of some of the cultural influences Cellini would have been subjected to in Italy as he grew up.(O Brien) Its possible that this influence helped to lead him to be one of the prominent mannerist artist. Another culturally significant factor of the time is that Cellini lived his life in the era of Italy being ruled by kings as the Roman Empire had dissipated and been split into the Eastern and Western Empires. The Western Empire fell in 476 when the barbarian chieftain Odoacer deposed Romulus Augustus and didn t take the title of emperor.(O Brien) Cellini s father was a musician and wanted Cellini to pursue a career in music but at the age of fifteen Cellini ... Our dreams and memories drift in and out of our minds throughout the day, and I believe this is what Alexie is trying to demonstrate with the characters in the various stories because it makes them seem more real and it makes the stories seem like they are coming to life. If Alexie did not reply on this rhetoric strategy the characters would collapse and be dull, but the characters is what gives the story life. In the stories the characters go through several dilemmas such as in the first chapter families fighting with each other, substance abuse as well as detestable living conditions. When they search for something it lead many of the characters in his book to imagine, desire, and look for something that they did not already have, and to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, consider how much more complicated that environment becomes when the IC hears the word Mayday on the radio or suddenly realizes that an individual or an entire crew has not been seen or heard from and he has no idea of where to start looking. One of the main goals of the incident command system (ICS) is to manage resources on the fire grounds. The Incident Command System has a built in accountability system. Proper management of fire ground operations is necessary to achieve and maintain accountability. Accountability through incident command is possible only if it is established from the very beginning of the incident with the arrival of the first unit, officer, or member who establishes command and begins to assign and track incoming resources. Resources that self deploy on the fire ground without the establishment and direction of an overall IC are not operating within incident command, a single incident action plan (IAP), or an accountability system. This bridge has become the symbol of Bristol much like the Eiffel tower has of Paris, and the Opera house has of Sydney. The story of the Clifton Suspension Bridge began in 1754 with the dream of a Bristol wine merchant who donated his life savings to build a bridge over the gorge. To decide on a suitable design for the bridge a competition was held. Thomas Telford, the leading civil architect of the time was the judge. Apparently a local land owner wished to drive his carriage to Bristol without having to walk or negotiate the steep roads on the sides of the gorge, so he convinced the engineers, and paid for the necessary modifications to widen the design of the bridge. It is fortunate that he insisted on this widening because the bridge as it was originally designed would have never been able to cater to modern traffic demands. The bridge was finished in 1859 and opened to the public in 1864. Before the bridge was built the slip way was the only way to cross the river without taking a long detour. The slip way was crossed at high tide by rowing a boat across, and at low tide by crossing on series gangplanks that were tied together. Both crossings were fairly dangerous and extremely inconvenient and therefore a bridge was a very popular idea. The Clifton Suspension bridge is world famous and one of the essential things to see in the West Country. It is a beautiful piece of engineering that is lovely maintained by the bridge staff. The two towers of the bridge span from Clifton to summerset, the Clifton tower is build on a solid rock surface that acts as a foundation, however the summerset tower needed a massive brick buttress before work on the tower could begin. I grew up in a place that did not have many big bodies of water which made it hard to really appreciate what dams do to help the environment. However, the Tellico Dam is a controversial issue. The Tellico Dam was a planned to be built by the Tennessee Valley Authority, but got delayed once they discovered a endangered species. Where the government was allowing the Tennesseans to build the dam, in Lenoir City, Tennessee, there was a small population of a rare species of fish, the Snail Darter. The Snail Darter is a very small species of fish found in Eastern Tennessee freshwater. A little bit larger than the average paperclip, this animal is part of the perch family and primarily feeds on aquatic snails. The females can lay about 600 eggs a year. Found in shallow water, the darters, in captivity, only live up to about four years and even less in the wild. Completing the dam would likely wipe out the Snail Darters in that area, and the Darter could become an extinct species. Coaches play a large role in how a kid views and plays a sport. It all depends in what type of coach they are, they could be a good and positive coach for the child or they could be a bad coach which is a huge negative towards the children. For example, a good coach would keep his/her voice low after a mistake made by a player and tell him/her what they did wrong. The seeds of the chili pepper were brought back to Spain, where it was grown in monastery gardens. Chile peppers became popular due to their great variability in size, shape, and color. Unfortunately, this long proved to be a problem for the taxonomists, who frequently had trouble telling the difference between a different variety and a different species. Theories Of Communicative Competence In Language Teaching 1.1 Preliminaries Communicative language teaching (CLT) which was mainly developed from social science and humanities beyond language teaching concerns, has been followed for nearly three decades. Hymes from the linguistic anthropology (1971) and Habermas (1984) from social philosophy point of view, proposed different notions of communicative competence in CLT to be used in language teaching and assessment. Communicative competence, as Richards (1985) claimed, includes knowledge of the grammar, vocabulary of the language, rules of speaking, knowing how to use and respond to different types of speech acts and knowing how to use language appropriately. It is believed that the goal of second language teaching should be communicative competence, and it should include the ability to use language appropriately in social contexts in order to perform communicative functions and the ability to combine utterances and communicative functions according to the principles of discourse (Loveday, 1982; Canale Swain, 1980). ...
