Managing A Diverse Workforce Assists
Managing a diverse workforce assists in creating a vivacious and assorted business team with
opportunities and challenges for people of all aptitudes and experiences, besides host country
nationals. In addition, by managing a diverse workforce assists in the facilitation of change in a
country s normal operating business practices. According to Hofstede s dimensions of culturemodel,
one could better understand the challenges faced by multinational managers in regards to human
resource management, leadership style, motivational assumptions, decision making, organizational
design, and how culture can affect strategy implementation (Cullen Parboteeah, 2014, p. 52).
Furthermore, one can imagine how important manger actions and behavior are in educating future
business leaders on how important it is to have a global mindset ( Social, 2014). Lastly, although
some consider the challenges mentioned obstacles, one could also consider finding opportunities in
learning and progressing as a manager by being flexible and knowledgeable about different
business possibilities and styles.
Main Issues Classified as Opportunities and Challenges Global managers may face a multitude of
opportunities and challenges of managing a diverse workforce. Considering Hofstede s dimensions
of national culture, one could imagine anyone outside the considered norm would have issues.
Managers could overcome those issues if he or she was knowledgeable about power distance,

The Earth By Jules Verne
Theme 1 In the science fiction novel, Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne, the topics
of science vs imagination brings forward numerous themes. Even though this novel is based mainly
on imagination, there are still many real life themes and ideas that are relevant. One of these
themes is keeping a lasting pride in one s occupation and job. Throughout the entire introduction,
Axel, the protagonist in the story observes his uncle, Otto Lidenbrock, a well renowned German
scientist working diligently to decipher a cryptograph that reveals priceless information on the
location of an opening that will help them reach the center of the earth. Lidenbrock, in the novelis
portrayed as a mineralogist completely dedicated to his... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, when Axel s failed attempt to get out of his uncle s journey comes to a stop, his
disappointment is represented in the first person perspective. Axel s fear of accompanying his
uncle is only truly expressed due to the point of view. While they are having dinner, Axel thinks
to himself These last words sent a shiver through my whole body. I kept my selfcontrol though. I
even resolved to put on a brave face. Only scientific arguments could stop Professor Lidenbrock
now. And there was no lack of arguments, and good ones, against such a journey being possible.
Go to the centre of the Earth? What madness! But I kept my reasoning for a more suitable moment,
and instead gave my full attention to the meal. This not only provides insight on Axel s thoughts
but more importantly provides proof of his uncle s crazy devotions to science.
Theme 2 Like the first theme of determination and pride in work, another similar theme that takes
a different outlook on the same events is the idea of if sacrifice is really worth it at the end. As
shown in the last analysis, Professor Lidenbrock is very dedicated to his work as a scientist and
perhaps maybe a little too dedicated and too involved. He undervalues everything else about life
except his scientific discoveries. Lidenbrock even skips meals for a couple of days not realizing
the troubles that could occur to his nephew or even his goddaughter Grauben. He also does not
make any consideration

Having An Independent Director Essay
CONCLUSION
The Companies Act, 2013 has given Independent directors great empowerment so as to make sure
that management and affairs of the company run fairly and smoothly, at the same time making an
independent director accountable for all actions taken by him. Further this Act, 2013 empowered
the Independent directors to have a definite say in the management of a company, which thereby
immensely strengthens the corporate governance of the country. The Act also empowers
independent directors with proper checks and balances, so that such extensive powers are not
exercised in an unbridled manner, but in a rational and accountable way.
The new concept of having an Independent Director is a welcoming step for corporate governance
in India. The changes have been made so as take a step in the right direction. An Independent
Director is expected to enhance corporate governance and ensure the management and affairs of the
companies are conducted in the interest of stakeholders. It is expected that these changes will
thwart corporate scandals in future and insulate shareholders interest.
However it is also important to keep in mind that good corporate governance is not just the outcome
of appropriate selection and effective functioning of an independent Director. Every director,
whether independent/non independent, executive/non executive has a distinct role in the
functioning of the company. It is only when the entire board functions effectively which results to

1. Outline the personal motivation behind Mick and Simone wanting to start a buisness.
Mick and Simone s motivation behind wanting to start their business was a desire for
independence both financially and personally. A reason for wanting to be personally independent
is to control where you work and when you work, making it easier to find time for a personal life
while working at the same time. A reason for wanting to be financially independent is choosing
how much and when to get paid so you don t need to rely on a set date or amount.
2. Describe two sources of business opportunity that might have influenced Mick and Simone in
making their decision concerning their purchase of Moregolf.
One source of a business opportunity that might have influenced Mick and Simone is
entrepreneurship. Although Mick and Simone didn t create their business from scratch, they do
show characteristics of entrepreneurs such as taking risks, changing to fit the gap in the market and
staying persistent. A second source of a business opportunity is innovation. Mick and Simone saw

Rhetorical Analysis Of President John F. Kennedy s Crisis
A leader should be able to diagnose problems in his country and effectively navigate his people
safely through that trouble spot. President John F . Kennedy was a great leader, who was able to
lead the United States through several crises. One prime example of his navigational skills through
such hardships is in his dealings with the rise in steel prices in 1962. In his news conference, on
the issue of steel price, President Kennedy uses parallelism and juxtaposition to create the idea that
the increase in price from the steel companies is detrimental to the United Stateseconomy.
The first device that President John F. Kennedyuses to combat the issue of raising steel prices is
parallelism. In the second paragraph of his speech, he begins listing outcomes of the dramatic
increase in steel prices by saying, ...when we are confronted with grave crises in Berlin and
Southeast Asia, when we are devoting out energies to economic recovery and stability, when we
are asking Reservists to leave their homes and families for months on end, and servicemen to
risk their lives... (lines 6 12) This is an effective use of parallelism because he builds on the
previous statement by starting out the one that follows with the same introduction: ...when we
are... He is trying to prove that America is in a crisis situation and the steel companies increasing
their prices is only going to make the situation even worse. He is showing all of the sacrifices
that people are making and proving to the steel companies that their high wages are going to
have a very negative effect on a people who are sacrificing more than anyone would have ever
expected for their country. The second example of parallelism is in the third paragraph of his
speech, when he begins by saying, ...it would increase the cost of homes, autos, and appliances,
and most other items for every American family. It would increase the cost of machinery and tools
to every American businessman and farmer. It would seriously handicap out efforts to prevent an
inflationary spiral from eating up the pensions of out older citizens, and our new gains in
purchasing power. (lines 23 31) He is pleading to the steel companies to lower their prices through

Nursing Philosophy Research Paper
For us to talk about nursing philosophy, I believe that one must first decide what philosophy
means to them. There is not one clear definition of philosophy, but according to the American
Heritage Dictionary of the English language (2000), philosophy is an underlying theory or set of
ideas relating to a particular field of activity or to life as a whole. I believe this definition ties with
my nursing philosophy, because every nurse has different ideas of their own. Therefore, my
nursing philosophy is to provide holistic patient centered care, to deliver compassionate care and
to care for my patient with the best of my ability using all my knowledge, I believe that education
plays a significant role in my philosophy. Continued education gives me more knowledge, which
allows me to provide better care every day. Nurses need to use that knowledge to help those who

Each person needs to be treated as an individual, not a room number or any disease. They should
receive care, with disregard to background, beliefs, or sexual orientation. I also believe that as a
patient, she/he has the right to participate in their own care. Whichever goal they have a nurse
should help achieve that goal. Whether the goal is quality of life or dignity of death, a nurse should
be there to advocate for the patient. My perspective on the environment, is that even though nursing
focuses on human beings, we also need to look at the environment in which he/she lives. The
community can be a large community or a small community, but at the end of the day community
influence the patients. Society should be able to trust the healthcare provider to deliver care, at any

Conductive Hearing Loss In The US
Introduction In the United States, about 48 million people or 20 percent of the population is
affected by hearing loss (Hearing Loss Association of America). According to Cole and Flexer
(2008), Hearing loss is the most common birth defect (p. xi). Approximately 16,000 to 18,000
infants and young children are diagnosed with hearingloss every year. (Cole Flexer, 2008).
Hearing loss can be classified in three ways based on type: conductive, sensorineural, and mixed.
Conductive hearing loss is when sound is not transmitted from the outer ear to the middle ear in an
effective manner. Examples of a conductive hearing loss include: otitis media, perforation of the
tympanic membrane, impacted cerumen, benign growths, foreign objects, or a maldeveloped or
absent outer ear or middle ear structure. Most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It can be described as unilateral meaning only one ear is affected or bilateral meaning both ears are
affected. Hearing loss can also be classified as symmetrical or asymmetrical. Symmetrical means
that both ears are affected equally while asymmetrical means that the ears are unequal in their level
of hearing loss. Hearing loss can also be broken down into sudden and progressive onset. Hearing
loss can occur over a short period or it can worsen over time. Fluctuating hearing loss changes over
time, and stable hearing loss remains constant. Hearing loss is characterized by degree of severity
based on decibel loss (American Speech Hearing Association). Normal hearing has a decibel loss of
10 to 15. Slight hearing loss has a decibel loss of 16 to 25. Mild hearing loss has a decibel loss of
26 to 40. Moderate hearing loss has a decibel loss of 41 to 55. Moderately severe hearing loss has a
decibel loss of 56 to 70. Severe hearing loss has a decibel loss of 71 to 90. Profound hearing loss
has a decibel loss of 90 or greater (Clark,

nuclear scientist, coincidently my father, fortified my resolve to pursue pharmaceutical sciences,
providing an impetus to charter my future career objectives and professional goals. My interest

role in our very existence. Pharmacy is a noble profession, a profession which touches upon lives;
which couples medicine and technology, combines chemistry and biology, to produce a cauldron

of a pure drug substance, which may include generic drugs, into dosage forms such as tablets,
capsules, creams, gels, ointments, transdermal and transmucosal patches, solutions, sprays, eye
and ear drops, injectables and many others. I would like to come up with a creative yet

How The Utilities Industry Changed The Us And Gis Essay
12/12/2016
Utilities in the US and GIS
GIS is critical to the utilities industry in the US. It allows them to perform mundane tasks that
they are required to perform with new levels of ROI (return on investment), safety, and man hour
efficiency. It also allows them to save the taxpayer a substantial sum of money yearly, and also the
ability to remain profitable while billing for less. In this paper, I will first discuss some of the
basic ways that the utilities industry in the US is using GIS to achieving all of these things, then
into each part of the electrical utilities industry and then delve into some of the more technical items
used by the industry and their function within the industry as a whole. Geography, as defined in the
Cambridge dictionary is the study of features and systems of the earth s surface, including
continents, mountains, seas, weather, and plant life, and of the ways in which countries and people
organize life within an area. (3) Therefore, I think it is important to define the history of electricity
to give perspective, and its physical properties on a smaller scale to help understand larger concepts
from a power engineering perspective. Unfortunately, there is a lot of relevant information to cover
before GIS is brought into fruition.
Electricity had always been in a rather elementary and simple form of static electricity, until people
discovered we could harness its properties to conduct work, light spaces and various other uses.

Courage In Charles Doyle s The True Confessions Of...
Take chances, make mistakes. That s how you grow. Pain nourishes your courage. You have to
fail in order to practice being brave. Mary Tyler Moore. This quote means that if you take chances
you will make mistakes, making mistakes is a part of your life, pain strengthens you, and failing
makes you braver. In the story, The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle, the readers learn from
Charlotte s adventures that there is many times to be brave, which is part of the theme, being brave
is sometimes the only choice.
In the story, The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle, Charlotte walks down to top steerage,
where her luggage is, to get a couple of her belongings. When she s down there, she sees a
mysterious face staring at her. She doesn t know who it is. It s neither Captain Jaggery or the
crew. She walks up to it slowly and finds out it s not alive, it s a fake face. She starts up the
ladder but realizes she forgot her clothes. When she climbs back down to get her clothes, she
sees another face, she realizes this face it alive. She had no idea who the face was. (Chapter 6 7,
Pgs 70 71) This relates to the theme because here Charlotte had to be very brave to go up to the
face, go back down to get her things, and having to go down there when she needed something
from her luggage. She won t know if the face will hurt her when she s down there and she won t
know if the face is still down there.

The United States Post Civil War
The United States post Civil War era from 1875 to 1900 experienced massive economic and
industrial growth, especially in the North. The rise of new machines, industries (railroad, oil, steel),
and buildings contributed to a major upsurge in the prosperity of the American nation. In 1860, no
American city had a population over one million; by 1890, three cities had passed the million mark.
New York City became the second largest city in the world after London in 1900. The substantial
growth of the U.S economically can be contributed to a group of wealthy capitalists that ran
businesses/industries and stimulated economic growth. However, historians have argued over
whether these capitalists were robber barons that were corrupt and took advantage of the American
people or captains of industry that helped the U.S grow at unparalleled speeds. Wealthy capitalists
such as Andrew Carnegie and John D. Rockefeller were indeed captains of industry who enlarged
American industry and businesses, used their wealth to better their communities, and elevated the
United States to new heights as one of the leading industrial powers of the entire world. The major
wealthy capitalists of the time Andrew Carnegie, John D. Rockefeller, J. Pierpont Morgan, and
Cornelius Vanderbilt all played a tremendous role in developing American industry and ultimately
the economy as a whole. Through their business ventures, they vastly increased the industrial
output of America. For example,

language, and attempting to make them feel as if they are equals. He began his speech with the
Greek terms, Yias sas! Kalispera! This phrase translates to Hello, good evening! This speech was
a praise to democracy, reminding people of its birthplace, Greece. The idea of Democracy, or
Demokratia, emerged twenty five centuries ago giving the people the right to rule. This speech is

Additionally, he emphasized the role of democracy in maintaining healthy and practical interactions
that arise. He supports that statement, through the use of anaphora, by listing references of
numerous achievements of the United States during his presidency. Achievements such as being
able to disarm Iran of its nuclear weaponry as well as re establish relations with Cuba, through
the recruitment of diplomacy. He states, ...with diplomacy, we were able to shut down Iran s
nuclear war...With diplomacy, the United States opened relations with Cuba. With diplomacy, we
joined Greece and nearly 200 nations... He continues, by sharing his faith in democracy that
continuously brings political and social stability. He is confident that progress is possible,
although it is earned. Again, he uses parallelism to ease uncertainty saying, History does not
move in a straight line. Civil rights in America did not move in a straight line. Democracy in
Greece did not move in a straight line. The evolution of a unified Europe certainly has not moved
in a straight line. Implementing the system is a considerable challenge in America because it is so
often characterized by racial, religious, and cultural diversity. The flaws of democracy are
unarguably evident in Greek society, as politicians are hesitant due to political costs. Again, he uses

Language Separation in Immigrant Families Essay
Language Separation in Immigrant Families
In America, each family usually has a standard language spoken in the household.
Communication is easy and mothers can talk with their children and they can connect with them.
Some people who have this benefit are unaware that some families do not have this advantage in
their homes. Lee Thomas and Linh Cao understand that some families have language change
through each generation. Cao herself lived in house where her relatives used several different
languages and learned first hand that there are many losses when a family doesn t share a common
language.

purpose of the article is to demonstrate that even families can be separated by language.
To show this point the author s write about Cao s experiences with a language struggle between
family members. This narration gives the reader a close up look at how language works in a
family. Besides using narration she always uses a little cause and effect by sharing the results of
having language separation. She gave three examples of conversational situations in her
household. The languages Vietnamese, Hainanese, Mandarin, and English are used

because there were four languages being used. The first conversation is between Cao s mom and
one of her siblings, Tung. It has to do with Tung not wanting to eat the large amount of noodles
Mom prepared for him. Then she asks about Tung s homework and he is unable to explain it to

Changing Consumer Habits Of Wal Mart
Changing Consumer Habits Consumer spending habits have altered radically since the 1990s
when Wal Mart first saw huge growth in its sales and market share. In the 1990s, the use of
online shopping was still in its infancy and mobile shopping was not prevalent until the late
1990s and early 2000s (Merchant, 2011). Online retail shopping has become increasingly
common among consumers, and among online retail shoppers, increasing numbers of
consumers are using mobile devices (Siwicki, 2014). In the 2013 holiday season, mobile
shopping using a smartphone or tablet accounted for about 20 percent of e commerce sales
(Egol Hodson, 2013). In comparison, in July of 2014, 56 percent of online retail shopping
occurred through the use of a smartphone or tablet (Siwicki, 2014). While Wal Mart offers
walmart.com, this platform has not kept pace with the demand for it, and Wal Mart has not taken
full advantage of the chance to create applications for mobile devices to allow and encourage
consumer spending. Changes That Need to Be Made at Wal Mart Dr. John Kotter suggests an
eight step process for creating change in an organization. The first step entails establishing a sense
of urgency, because before members of an organization will be motivated to adopt the changes, they
must first understand the need for the change in a way that emphasizes the urgency to take action
to address the problem. The second step is to form a powerful coalition, which means getting key

Pesticide Essay
Worldwide it is estimated that approximately 1.8 billion people engage in agriculture and most use
pesticides to protect the food and commercial products that they produce. Others use pesticides
occupationally for public health programs, and in commercial applications, while many others use
pesticides for lawn and garden applications and in and around the home (1,2). Pesticides are
defined as chemical substances used to prevent, destroy, repel or mitigate any pest ranging from
insects (i.e., insecticides), rodents (i.e., rodenticides) and weeds (herbicides) to microorganisms
(i.e., algicides, fungicides or bactericides) (1,3).
Over 1 billion pounds of pesticides are used in the United State (US) each year and approximately
5.6 billion pounds are used worldwide (1). In many developing countries programs to control
exposures are limited or non existent. As a consequence; it has been estimated that as many as 25
million agricultural workers worldwide experience unintentional pesticide poisonings each year (4).
In a large prospective study of pesticide users in the United States, the Agricultural Health Study, it
was estimated that 16% of the cohort had at least one pesticide poisoning or an unusually high
pesticide exposure episode in their lifetime (5).

other technologies to control pests continue, exposure to pesticides occupationally, through home

THE FIRST BATTLE OF BULL RUN
BY COLLINS MCKAY
On July 21, 1861, two armies, one confederate and the other Union, prepared for the first major
land battle of the Civil War. In 1861 Abraham Lincoln was sworn in as President.
The Southern states had seceded and the South had fired on and captured Fort Sumter on April 12
1861.
After the Fort Sumter battle, both the North and the South began preparing for war by raising
armies. This was done quickly and neither side spent much time training the troops. Both sides also
did not know what a long and terrible war was ahead.

General McDonnell attempted to flank the Confederates by moving north and west, and began
several attacks on the Confederates right flank and the center of the Confederate line at Henry
House.
As the battle wore on, the superior numbers of the Union Army began to wear down the
Confederate lines. At a critical point, as the Confederates began to fall back, an officer pointed
out a line of rebels who were still strong. He said, look at Jackson s men standing like a stone
wall . He was talking about General T. J. Jackson s men. Jackson would from then on be known as
Stonewall Jackson , one of the most famous of all Confederate generals. This seemed to inspire the
Southern troops at Henry House who held their ground and began to beat back the Union forces.
On the west flank the Union troops who had been moving slowly were pushed back by General
Johnston s troops who arrived in the afternoon by railroad. Civilian spectators had come out from
Washington to watch the battle. They thought it would be like a sporting event. As the battle turned
against the North, they panicked and the one road back to Washington became clogged with

The use of the science fiction genre in short suite stories such as A Cybernetic Society written by
Isabella Furini and Ashna Nadan, helps to convey and raise concerns about our modern society.
Most people might argue that a creative piece is able to convey the message of which the author
intends to convey and it is not dependent on the genre. However, the genre allows the author to be
able to explore a particular context and be able to convey their message in a particular way. The
science fictiongenre allows its elements to create a deep contrast of the different societies, and

The aspects of normality in our society refer to the common use of technology and constant

These highlight positive and negative effects in a technology aspect through the first difference
being more so an advantage effect as it shows the advancement of technology and the scientific
breakthrough. However, the second consequence shows a negative effect of technology through it
being excessively used in order to gain something, of which is being the cybernetic brain. In a
political aspect, the consequences of the scenarios tend to also differ in positive and negative
effects in the story, but mainly is seen to be negative due to the second consequence. As the

translates into losses in society. Combining these aspects of political influence and technology

On CNN s website, American University professor Naomi Baron suggests American society has
become sloppy about the mechanics of writing. Problems arise when people use the casual
language in other forms of written communication... when the reader may not be familiar with the

The Southern Dialect as Seen in the Works of William Faulkner
In the writings of William Faulkner, the reader may sense that the author has created an entire
world, which directly reflects his own personal experience. Faulkner writes about the area in and
around Mississippi, where he is from, during the post Civil War period. It is most frequently
Northern Mississippi that Faulkner uses for his literary territory, changing Oxford to Jefferson and
Lafayette County to Yoknapatawpha County, because it is here that he lived most of his life and
wrote of the people he knew.
Faulkner s stories focus on the Southeastern United States at a time period when old traditions
began to clash with new ideals. This is an era in American history ... Show more content on

Anyone not from the South may need explanations of much of Faulkner s pronunciations, words,
usages, and language customs which the author himself takes for granted. Because Faulkner has
employed such a vast and complex Southern dialect in his stories, the language he uses has become
a microcosm of Southern language as a whole. As one critic has noted, local forms of speech
maintain one s individual dignity in a homogenizing world (Burkett vii).
In Faulkner, this local speech is a mixture of Southern American and Negro dialogue with all the
folklore from Virginia to Louisiana, Florida to Texas (Brown 2). Faulkner s dialect is effective both
as a literary device and as a link between the American English language and American culture and
history, specifically in the Southeast.
The South is probably the most linguistically diversified part of the nation. Blacks and whites from
Atlanta to Charleston to Nashville speak a different form of standard English in a different version
of the Southern accent. Part of this linguistic diversity is reflected in the way that the Southern
aristocracy can shift not only vocabulary and pronunciation, but even grammar, according to the
audience ((1)McDavid 219). This

I Read My Favorite Book
Ever since I was little, I have always loved to read. If I liked a book, I would read it until I could
barely keep my eyes open. However, I have never fallen asleep while reading a book I enjoyed. The
first book I ever read was Ten Apples Up on Top by Dr. Suess and this book continues to be my
favorite book by him. Other books I read when I was younger included the Five Little Monkeys
books and later Junie B. Jones. The Five Little Monkeys books were enjoyable to me and I
remember having this one amazing, indescribable feeling of joy while reading these books.
Contrastingly, the Junie B. Jones book about the monster under her bed made me extra worried
about monsters under my bed. When I was a little bit older, I read a book called The Mysterious
Benedict Society, which was a long chapter book, unlike the Junie B. Jones books. The
Mysterious Benedict Society is about a group of intelligent kids with different special talents that
the Society uses to help save kids who are being mind controlled at a boarding school. Speaking of
boarding schools, I also read the Harry Potterbooks when I was in Elementary School. My mom
used to try to read the first book to me, but we would forget to keep reading it. Eventually, my
sister read the books, so we watched the movies as she read the series. After a while, though, my
parents told me that I was not allowed to watch any more of the movies until I had read the books,
so I decided to read the books and enjoyed them more than I expected

Counterfactual Thinking and Experiences of Regret
Counterfactual thinking and experiences of regret Introduction Counterfactual thinking is the
cognitive process in which individuals can simulate alternative realities, to think about how things
could have turned out differently, with statements such as what if and if only . Counterfactuals can
be either upward, in which alternative realities are improved, or downward, in which alternative
realities are worsened. Reflecting on previous outcomes can make individuals experience regret
and this review will focus on the effects of counterfactual thinking and feelings of regret, which has
been referred to as a counterfactual emotion . Opportunities and regret Roese amp; Summerville

Pierro, Leder, Mannetti, Higgins, Kruglanski, amp; Aiello (2008) investigated the effects of
assessment and locomotion modes on engaging in counterfactual thinking and experiencing post
decisional regret. They predicted that people with a higher assessment mode would generate more
counterfactuals and experience more regret as assessment requires critical evaluation and
generating comparisons, they also predicted that people with a higher locomotion mode would
generate less counterfactuals as locomotion suggests an individual is less likely to pay attention to
attention and more likely to focus on moving from state to state without interruption. To test these
hypotheses participants were asked in two studies to imagine purchasing something but it has a
negative outcome and in another study they were asked to recall a time when they purchased
something and it had a negative outcome, regret was measured in each study. The results showed
that participants rated higher in the assessment mode generated more counterfactuals after a
negative outcome and experienced more regret, while participants rated higher in the locomotion
mode generated less counterfactuals and experienced less regret. Summerville (2011) took a step
further by incorporating the functional theory

Joint hypermobility (JH), which is when the joint has an exaggerated range of motion, may present

when the joint has increased range of motion in conjunction with musculoskeletal pain(73, 74). This
entity can exist in conditions such as Generalized JointHypermobility Syndrome, Benign Joint
Hypermobility Syndrome, and Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (Hypermobile Type)(73, 75, 76). Children

It is therefore important to educate parents, coaches, and athletes about the danger of overuse injury
to the shoulder. In addition to the conditions described in this article, children and adolescents, like
adults, can suffer rotator cuff tears, labral tears, and instability episodes from athletic play. The
management of these injuries is beyond the scope of this focused article, yet these conditions are
nonetheless important diagnostic considerations in a young athlete with shoulder pain. Although
most pediatric shoulder injuries can be treated non operatively with therapy and rest, some, such as
quadrilateral space syndrome, may require surgery. During examination of all pediatric
musculoskeletal complaints, global issues such as hypermobility must also be assessed. A
multidisciplinary approach with emphasis on proper training is vital to the prevention and

A Study On New Guinea
New Guinea is located in Indonesia, which is situated between Asia and Australia. Papua is a
country which occupies the eastern half of New Guinea and is not a very well explored country,
geographically, or culturally. A small tribe of about 3000 people occupies a remote and rural part
of the southeastern side of the island and they are known as the Korowaitribe. The Korowai people
were discovered in Papua New Guineain 1974. This tribe along with many other tribes in Papua
New Guineaexperience little to no contact with other tribes or outsiders. The Korowai tribe is
unique because they are one of the few tribes on Earth that are still believed to practice

Internet Gaming Addiction Substance Addiction:
The Correlational Relationship Between Behavioral and Substance Addiction.
Jennifer M. deJong
PSY 290 Research Methods
Dr. Norma Hernandez
November 30, 2016
Abstract
The following research proposal is determining if there is a correlational relationship between
substance addiction and internet gaming addiction. Addiction is still seen in society as a lack of
willpower or a flaw in a person s character. This research will add to current research that is
striving to show that addiction is a disease of the mind. Archival research and content analysis will
be acquired to provide information on both addictions and possible co addictions. An interview
process will be conducted to gain data from participants that currently suffer from both addictions.
The results of this research study are expected to support the hypothesis that if a person has an
underlying substance addiction then it could be a factor in developing a secondary behavioral
addiction such as internet gaming addiction. The study would add to the existing research being
done on addiction. Showing that addiction is not limited to one element of a person s life.
Internet Gaming Addiction The Disease of Addiction:
The Correlational Relationship Between Behavioral and Substance Addiction.

In the result of this conflict, the United States government sent reservation polices to arrest the
Sitting Bull. It was getting more intense when the reservation police shot and killed Sitting Bull
because he was not complying with the order. Shortly after Christmas in 1890, the remaining Sioux
sought refuge at Pine Ridge. Indians had only a few guns, the possibility of resisting the force of
the federal government was absolutely zero. The trooper ordered the Indians turn over their
weapons (guns, knife, etc..) but one of them fired his rifle, soldiers then let loose with their
carbines, at the same time, the big gun on the hill shelled the tepees. Over between 200 and 300 of
the original 350 men, women, and children were dead. This massacre led to Indian tribes being
attacked, subdued, starved out, and live in poverty. Even though the Allotment Act tried to turn
these Indian into American small farmers, but land was taken by White speculators, the Indians
were left with nothing. John Collier had attempted to restore tribal life, but unfortunately no
fundamental change took place; Indians stayed on the impoverished reservations. This is important
because the United States government effort to deal with Indians, ironically, turned it into a bloody
historical event. Many Indians were dead, the population dramatically dropped to 300,000 from the
original one million. Many Indians said the Indian Reservations is the most complete colonial

The Crucial Role of Teiresias in Sophocles’ Antigone...
The Crucial Role of Teiresias in Sophocles Antigone
Antigone is a tragic play written by Sophocles in ancient Greece during approximately 441 B.C.
The story is set in a palace in Thebes, a city within Greece. Teiresias is an old blind prophet who
claims to be capable of seeing the future, he has yet to tell a prophesy to be untrue; he has immense
credibility. A theme within the text is: quality not quantity. In this translation of Antigone
, Teiresias
has exactly 76 lines of text. Physically this is very little of a role; one could assume Teiresias is not
an important character at all; however, this is untrue. Teiresias is a character with an extremely
minute role, yet he has immense influence over the resolution of the story, the ... Show more content

Creon now says, Old man ... Make profit, trade in Lydian silver gold, pure gold of India; that s
your chief desire (1034 38). The man who just two minutes ago had the complete respect of the
king is now the prime enemy of Creon; accused of selling out for money. In most stories, any
character with only 0.06% of stage time would not have the power to transform the leader of a
society from polite to mean. Teiresias must be very important if he has the audacity to talk down to
the king and not executed for it. This is evidence that while minor, Teiresias has much respect and
possesses the capability to influence the attitude of extremely powerful characters such as Creon.
Teiresias also has the ability to influence the mental status of Creon and his tragic downfall. After
Teiresias convinces Creon to reluctantly free Antigone, he discovers that his son is now dead as
an indirect result of the past decisions Creon has chosen to make. Anything resulting in the story
subsequent of Teiresias brief stage time is the tragic downfall of our tragic hero, Creon. Actions
such as, Eurydice choosing to take her own life because Haemon voluntarily took his own life, is
an element of Creon s tragic downfall. Creon says, Take me away at once, the frantic man who

Descartes s Cogito Ergo Sum
During Meditations 2, Descartes establishes a version of his famous cogito ergo sum . He
establishes that despite the fact that we may not know the world around us as well as we think
we do, we can know the mind better and the trusting the mind can lead him to the seemingly
justified conclusion that he exists. Descartes method of arriving at the conclusion is by starting
from scratch and considering whether there could be any ground of doubt for his beliefs. He
was a rational philosopher who gave reason the utmost importance and led him to realise that
many of his current beliefs were in fact based on uncertainty and thus false conclusions.
Therefore, in order to avoid this problem and find secure knowledge of on what he can be certain
of, he uses the method of doubting everything that he finds reason to doubt and consequently,
being justified in rejecting the whole. He will: withhold my assent from matters which are not
entirely certain and indubitable than from those which appear to me manifestly to be false
(Descartes 1641: 6) Firstly, Descartes deals with the issue of empiricism the theory that our
knowledge is derived from our sensory experiences. Since we know from everyday errors that our
senses have the ability to deceive us fairly often so making our perceptions to be something that it
is not. For example, there are lots of examples of optical illusions and the fact that the train tracks
may appear to converge from a distance. Consequently, we ought to

Other than style and procedure, the garments, haircuts, and gems worn by the people spoke to in

Lastly, the World Bank and International Monetary Fund are two institutions within the UN that
help to develop countries socially and economically by helping them with debt and jobs so that

organizations that provide finance which is why they are still a major contributor in our world. One
of the United Nations biggest accomplishments is stabilizing the world and creating a better world
for future generations. Many volunteers and peacekeepers are helping civilians to get through their
struggles by helping them retrieve their basic human rights. Unfortunately, many countries are so
corrupt that nothing can be done to help the innocent civilians. However, the UN has made
mistakes in the past and are constantly trying to improve on what can be done within certain
corrupt countries. For example, in Sudan multiple villages were attacked where many civilians
lived which resulted in close to 300,000 people getting killed. The UN did not want to get
involved so they asked members of the African Union to negotiate. This is a clear example that if
the government wants to attack, they will attack. The best solution is for peacekeepers to keep
their heads down and stay away rather than getting involved and potentially getting killed. The war

Closure can be defined as a way of coming to terms with something that has happened. A certain
something that can be seen as torturous, taunting, and sometimes even deadly. As a therapist, I

Forest Of Hands And Teeth Analysis
In the Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan, one the biggest topics in the story is zombies.
Recently scientists have found a fungus called Ophiocordyceps unilateralis, or more famously
called as Zombie ant fungus . After killing its host, the zombie ant fungus grows from the ant s
body and produces spores, which rain down on the forest floor to infect new hosts. The zombieant
fungi is named for its ability to control the behavior of its host in this case. All of the characters
of The Forest of Hands and Teeth all the characters would be shocked because. Something so
little as a fungi spore could infect and kind control humans (or ants) would blow their minds.
Though it would be kind of hard to know what the characters from the story would think and feel,
I feel that they would be kind of scared of the fungi or shocked. Not only could you be infected
from zombies but something so simple as a certain type of fungi? I think it would be harder for the
fungusto infect people and turn them into zombies, so I would think Travis and Mary would be

Instead of viewing healthcare as an expense, this system will cause Americans to think of
healthcare as an investment and evaluate services and costs based on the return on investment. If
this system is utilized, management will be forced to pay attention to refining the quality of care
delivered to patients along with the timeliness and manner, which will lead to better clinical,
quality of life, and economic outcomes (Watanabe et al, 2004). In order to try to implement this
sort of reimbursement system, the system would need to reward specific behaviors that providers

preventative medicine. This system would reimburse providers based on the level of commitment

escape the despairing island; or Jack a power hungry monarchical leader who won t ever take no
for an answer. The two boys are constantly bickering and arguing over who deserves the leader
position. We all understand Ralph wants to be leader so that he can ensure that the boys will
return back home, but in Jack s case, it is a constant mystery to us about why he... Show more

Although, it is starting to seem as though this new Jack, has a decent life upon the island, why
would he ever want to change? Jack s violence that had once been simply part of his disguise,
seems to have become a part of him. And it seems to be something that Jack enjoys too much,
somewhat like a psychopath. Robert was screaming and struggling with the strength of frenzy.
Jack had him by the hair and was brandishing his knife. Then Jack found the throat and the hot
blood spouted over his hands. Jack s original plan of creating a new personality for himself
seems to have gone to his head. And the psychopath within him has come alive. Once he
understands his situation upon the island Jack sees it as a fresh start where he can act as a

Descriptive Essay On Being A Waitress
It s always nice to go out to eat, order a nice meal that you do not have to cook and be served
everything you want. When going out to eat, have you ever thought about the person that is
serving you food, getting you drinks, and making sure you have a pleasant experience at the
restaurant of your choice? That person is a server. He or she is a waiter or waitress. I ve gone out
to eat a lot, and I ve always been a little curious what is like to be the person serving the food and
not eatingit. I chose to research this subculture because I was so curious about it. I have some
friends that wait tables, but I hadn t really thought about how being a waitress involves so many
things aside from serving food. Waitressing is more about handling all different types of people,
and learning to multitask successfully than just serving food. When I go out to eat, I usually
only notice if the waitress or waiter is nice to me and my party. I make sure that all of the food
and drinks come out the way we ordered them, and I also pay attention to how the food tastes.
When I started my research and observation for this ethnography, I started to pay more attention
the server when I was eating at restaurants. I started to notice how many tables the server waited
on, I noticed how many times he or she had to take food back to the kitchen because someone
thought it was wrong or not cooked right, and I also noticed how unhappy he or she was when
they left a certain table. I have also

  • 3. The Earth By Jules Verne Theme 1 In the science fiction novel, Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne, the topics of science vs imagination brings forward numerous themes. Even though this novel is based mainly on imagination, there are still many real life themes and ideas that are relevant. One of these themes is keeping a lasting pride in one s occupation and job. Throughout the entire introduction, Axel, the protagonist in the story observes his uncle, Otto Lidenbrock, a well renowned German scientist working diligently to decipher a cryptograph that reveals priceless information on the location of an opening that will help them reach the center of the earth. Furthermore, when Axel s failed attempt to get out of his uncle s journey comes to a stop, his disappointment is represented in the first person perspective. Axel s fear of accompanying his uncle is only truly expressed due to the point of view. While they are having dinner, Axel thinks to himself These last words sent a shiver through my whole body. I kept my selfcontrol though. I even resolved to put on a brave face. Only scientific arguments could stop Professor Lidenbrock now. And there was no lack of arguments, and good ones, against such a journey being possible. Go to the centre of the Earth? What madness! But I kept my reasoning for a more suitable moment, and instead gave my full attention to the meal. This not only provides insight on Axel s thoughts but more importantly provides proof of his uncle s crazy devotions to science. Theme 2 Like the first theme of determination and pride in work, another similar theme that takes a different outlook on the same events is the idea of if sacrifice is really worth it at the end. As shown in the last analysis, Professor Lidenbrock is very dedicated to his work as a scientist and perhaps maybe a little too dedicated and too involved. He undervalues everything else about life except his scientific discoveries. Lidenbrock even skips meals for a couple of days not realizing the troubles that could occur to his nephew or even his goddaughter Grauben. He also does not make any consideration ... • 6. Rhetorical Analysis Of President John F. Kennedy s Crisis A leader should be able to diagnose problems in his country and effectively navigate his people safely through that trouble spot. President John F . Kennedy was a great leader, who was able to lead the United States through several crises. One prime example of his navigational skills through such hardships is in his dealings with the rise in steel prices in 1962. In his news conference, on the issue of steel price, President Kennedy uses parallelism and juxtaposition to create the idea that the increase in price from the steel companies is detrimental to the United Stateseconomy. The first device that President John F. Kennedyuses to combat the issue of raising steel prices is parallelism. In the second paragraph of his speech, he begins listing outcomes of the dramatic increase in steel prices by saying, ...when we are confronted with grave crises in Berlin and Southeast Asia, when we are devoting out energies to economic recovery and stability, when we are asking Reservists to leave their homes and families for months on end, and servicemen to risk their lives... (lines 6 12) This is an effective use of parallelism because he builds on the previous statement by starting out the one that follows with the same introduction: ...when we are... He is trying to prove that America is in a crisis situation and the steel companies increasing their prices is only going to make the situation even worse. He is showing all of the sacrifices that people are making and proving to the steel companies that their high wages are going to have a very negative effect on a people who are sacrificing more than anyone would have ever expected for their country. The second example of parallelism is in the third paragraph of his speech, when he begins by saying, ...it would increase the cost of homes, autos, and appliances, and most other items for every American family. It would increase the cost of machinery and tools to every American businessman and farmer. It would seriously handicap out efforts to prevent an inflationary spiral from eating up the pensions of out older citizens, and our new gains in purchasing power. There is not one clear definition of philosophy, but according to the American Heritage Dictionary of the English language (2000), philosophy is an underlying theory or set of ideas relating to a particular field of activity or to life as a whole. I believe this definition ties with my nursing philosophy, because every nurse has different ideas of their own. Therefore, my nursing philosophy is to provide holistic patient centered care, to deliver compassionate care and to care for my patient with the best of my ability using all my knowledge, I believe that education plays a significant role in my philosophy. It allows them to perform mundane tasks that they are required to perform with new levels of ROI (return on investment), safety, and man hour efficiency. It also allows them to save the taxpayer a substantial sum of money yearly, and also the ability to remain profitable while billing for less. In this paper, I will first discuss some of the basic ways that the utilities industry in the US is using GIS to achieving all of these things, then into each part of the electrical utilities industry and then delve into some of the more technical items used by the industry and their function within the industry as a whole. Geography, as defined in the Cambridge dictionary is the study of features and systems of the earth s surface, including continents, mountains, seas, weather, and plant life, and of the ways in which countries and people organize life within an area. The rise of new machines, industries (railroad, oil, steel), and buildings contributed to a major upsurge in the prosperity of the American nation. In 1860, no American city had a population over one million; by 1890, three cities had passed the million mark. New York City became the second largest city in the world after London in 1900. The substantial growth of the U.S economically can be contributed to a group of wealthy capitalists that ran businesses/industries and stimulated economic growth. However, historians have argued over whether these capitalists were robber barons that were corrupt and took advantage of the American people or captains of industry that helped the U.S grow at unparalleled speeds. Wealthy capitalists such as Andrew Carnegie and John D. Rockefeller were indeed captains of industry who enlarged American industry and businesses, used their wealth to better their communities, and elevated the United States to new heights as one of the leading industrial powers of the entire world. Online retail shopping has become increasingly common among consumers, and among online retail shoppers, increasing numbers of consumers are using mobile devices (Siwicki, 2014). In the 2013 holiday season, mobile shopping using a smartphone or tablet accounted for about 20 percent of e commerce sales (Egol Hodson, 2013). As one critic has noted, local forms of speech maintain one s individual dignity in a homogenizing world (Burkett vii). In Faulkner, this local speech is a mixture of Southern American and Negro dialogue with all the folklore from Virginia to Louisiana, Florida to Texas (Brown 2). Addiction is still seen in society as a lack of willpower or a flaw in a person s character. This research will add to current research that is striving to show that addiction is a disease of the mind. Archival research and content analysis will be acquired to provide information on both addictions and possible co addictions. An interview process will be conducted to gain data from participants that currently suffer from both addictions. The results of this research study are expected to support the hypothesis that if a person has an underlying substance addiction then it could be a factor in developing a secondary behavioral addiction such as internet gaming addiction. The Crucial Role of Teiresias in Sophocles Antigone Antigone is a tragic play written by Sophocles in ancient Greece during approximately 441 B.C. Teiresias is an old blind prophet who claims to be capable of seeing the future, he has yet to tell a prophesy to be untrue; he has immense credibility. A theme within the text is: quality not quantity. In this translation of Antigone , Teiresias has exactly 76 lines of text. He establishes that despite the fact that we may not know the world around us as well as we think we do, we can know the mind better and the trusting the mind can lead him to the seemingly justified conclusion that he exists. Descartes method of arriving at the conclusion is by starting from scratch and considering whether there could be any ground of doubt for his beliefs. He was a rational philosopher who gave reason the utmost importance and led him to realise that many of his current beliefs were in fact based on uncertainty and thus false conclusions. Therefore, in order to avoid this problem and find secure knowledge of on what he can be certain of, he uses the method of doubting everything that he finds reason to doubt and consequently, being justified in rejecting the whole. He will: withhold my assent from matters which are not entirely certain and indubitable than from those which appear to me manifestly to be false (Descartes 1641: 6) Firstly, Descartes deals with the issue of empiricism the theory that our knowledge is derived from our sensory experiences. Since we know from everyday errors that our senses have the ability to deceive us fairly often so making our perceptions to be something that it is not.
